this was originally a blurb but it got too long so i made it a fic!!
jokes aren’t funny
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing : mike schmidt x reader
summary : mike and reader are in a relationship & they get into a fight and later into a rough patch. abby makes it her mission to get them back to being happy together.
warnings : fluff, slight angst (little sad parts), swearing
word count : 1k+
story under cut to avoid long scrolling!
you and abby were very alike. the two of you had similar thought processes, the same imaginary friends, you both liked to dance, that’s why it was perfect for her when you and mike started dating. she finally felt like someone understood her in a way only girls could.
so, you and abby formed a friendship. you’d play together, you’d babysit her while mike was at work, and it was going great. up until mike’s work schedule started to affect his mood and the time both of you spent together. him taking the nightshift made it difficult for you to spend any time together.
so, one day when mike came home, and abby was supposed to be sleeping, you had a talk to him about it. that talk, however, quickly turned into an argument.
“i don’t understand what the problem is?” mike reasoned, louder than intended. when his volume increased, so did yours, and now you both were practically screaming at each other, which was the first time you’d ever done so.
you sighed and rolled your eyes, “because you’re not trying to understand? maybe if you looked from my perspective you’d realize how horrible it is for me to talk to your little sister more than i talk to you! i love abby dearly but i need quality time with you too, mike! i’m your girlfriend!”
mike rolled his eyes, trying to keep them open sense he had no sleep for the past 20 hours and was extremely grumpy.
“i’m sure you can survive without seeing me, y/n! i know i can. i don’t need to see you everyday to function properly!” mike said, somewhat shouting then dramatically letting his head fall onto the dinning room table.
“am i just some kind of joke to you, mike?” you asked, your eyes starting to fill with tears. it didn’t matter that you were about to start your period, you still felt betrayed and felt like mike didn’t care about you as much as you did for him.
“now where the hell did you get that from?” mike shouted, “i never said that!” his voice was filled with anger and your words couldn’t help but grow his annoyance.
“that’s what it feels like, that’s what you’re implying.” you said, before grabbing your coat off the couch. “let me know when you’re ready to treat me like your girlfriend. until then, i don’t know if i can be anymore.” your last words made him stand, as you left and slammed the door behind you.
mike swore loudly and sunk onto the couch, rubbing his hair with his hands in a stressed manner, not noticing the little girl peaking around the door frame of her room. “mike?” he heard her little voice and broke down into tears.
“what?” he said, mid sob, not wanting her to see him the way he was. abby walked out from her room, wrapped up in one of her blankets. she walked over to mike, unwrapped it, and placed it over him.
“where did y/n just go?” she asked, “and why were you guys yelling like mom and dad?” those words made him break down, he started sobbing, and it made him realize that he wouldn’t lose you that easily. he physically couldn’t.
abby could tell he didn’t want to lose you that easily, so she helped him come up with a plan. until that plan was executed, however, mike couldn’t sleep for days, and when he did, his dreams were all about you. marrying you,
it had been about 4 days after your arguments. no contact, no texts on your part. however, mike wasn’t expecting otherwise, because of your last words you said to him, so he had to make the move, the ball was in his court.
so, with abby at his side, he texted you.
y/n, i’m so sorry for everything. can you come over so we can talk in person?
and so you came over, and he apologized to you. and said that his job at the nightshift was over, because he chose you, over his job. and the fact that the building collapsed but that takes away the sentimental value.
and abby was happy, because she was able to help get the both of you together.

Other flirty Book Incident things:
-Vergil cutting Abbie's red dress into something easier to move around with using Yamato. It's not a quick thing either, because he needs to make sure he gets both sides of what he cuts (the front and back of the dress, and around the holes for the arms, potentially). He makes it clear beforehand that he's not going to cut it into anything lewd or use this as an opportunity to be a creep, "because I'm not some juvenile scum- I can be professional. Just tell me what you need.", even tho Abbie blushes quite a bit while he does this. Both because she finds it hot having a pretty guy cut her out of (some of) her dress, but mostly because she finds he actually is being a gentleman about it. The former is dependent on the latter, honestly, my brain is just kinda soup rn. She can actually trust him, which is what makes it so hot.
And... he's surprisingly gentle and careful with her. Professional, but gentle. From his perspective: Even with him trying to keep a professional mindset, he finds himself wanting to touch her more than he needs to, to let his touches linger on her skin. He manages to keep himself from leering at her, to his credit, because he still has his pride, damn it, and its rude to leer at a lady, but every professional touch just makes him crave more contact. Because her skin is so nice, and warm, and soft, and even when he's only touching fabric, his fingers still itch for more.
Just. Some Victorian romance/Jane Austen levels of "physical touch is a Big Deal"/"longing, romantic touches". Like, Vergil's rubbing or itching at his hand(s) after he touches her or helps her with the tailoring project, because his mind keeps going back to that and running around in stupidly happy circles, replaying the warmth and feel of her skin on his over and over and over again, hungry for more. Like, he ends up accidentally holding her hand after the tailoring is done, and after they both awkwardly realize it and let go, he ends up having to quickly turn himself away from her and walk a few steps away, because damn him, he's actually blushing. He can feel his face heating up and his ears burning, and KNOWS he's blushing, and just kinda has to hope like hell that he's far enough away that Abbie doesn't notice it too.
It's just because he took his gloves off at the start of the tailoring, he tells himself. "It helps if I can feel what I'm doing." And it does, because you need to feel how the fabric moves and tears when you cut it, especially if its a fabric you're unfamiliar with, so you don't accidently cut too much or rip something accidentally where the fabric is worn thin. That and holding pins and trying to manipulate a pair of scissors while wearing fingerless gloves just feels awkward. (Or it does to me, anyway.) So having the gloves off DID help him tailor her dress better. But it also meant that he could feel more than he usually could whenever he touched her. The texture of the fabric, sure, but also the warmth and softness of her skin under his hands, and-
Foolishness. Utter foolishness. And unprofessional. And he damn well knows that. So he just sorta shoves his gloves back on and buries those thoughts in a drawer somewhere in the back of his mind, because damn it, they do not matter right now. They could still be attacked by demons at any moment. He should be Concentrating, not getting soppy over some girl. Even if she is... interesting. And clever. And nice. And he's being stupid again, damn it.
Back to practical tailoring matters: Vergil uses small Summoned Swords (knives, really) to cut smaller areas that would be harder to reach with his sword, like if Abbie needed him to cut the sleeves off and maybe widen the armpit holes so she could move her arms more freely. Maybe Summoned Scissors and Summoned Sewing Pins, too, idk. I'd imagine that just a regular Summoned Knife from him could cut through just about any fabric, even leather, but this is a messy sort of tailoring, so that might make things more complicated.
She keeps the scraps he cut off, just in case they turn out to be useful later. "Because demons track by scent, right? So maybe I can leave a false trail with this?" She'd also try tossing/pouring a whole bottle of perfume she had in her purse at a demon, in the hopes that the smell would make it harder for the demon to track her by scent. It's no peppermint or aniseed oil, but it's better than nothing, right? Vergil appreciates her ingenuity.
Speaking of Abbie's clothes: I'm so tempted to have the red dress she wore at the start (I'm going with the theory that she's the woman in red that we see in Vergil's opening cutscene in DMC4 SE) be just the outfit she wore to walk around sight seeing after initially dropping it off at the Fortuna library, with plans to come back either later that day/night, or in a few days, to see if they have any new information about the book for her. Or at least until they can see that yes, it really does drip a tub full (maybe more) of blood every full moon, and no, Abbie wasn't just making that up because its written in an old, possibly dead language and constantly reeks of sulfur. Mostly because I feel like if she was going to go back to deal with a potentially evil demonic book, she'd wear something more practical than a dress. Pants, for one thing. Stuff thats sturdy and easy to move around in. She'd be wearing leggings and boots with her dress, but I'm not sure if that would be enough.
Same goes for her playing tourist, honestly, because if you're going to spend hours walking around a town looking at statues and such, you want something that's easy to move around in. A dress doesn't strike me as that- but then, I've never really been one for dresses, so maybe a dress WOULD fit that criteria, Idk. If it doesn't, I could see her stealing some clothes off of any people that might of gotten killed in the first demon attack from the book. I also want to give her like, a backpack or a big purse to lug around, either as something she brought with her to play tourist/be prepared to deal with weird book shit, or as something she found in the Fortuna library. Or the library break room, or whatever. I've never actually been in any sections of a library that were "staff only", mostly I've just stayed where all the bookshelves are, so I don't really know what all Abbie would be able to find. I know people leave all sorts of things in the library, tho, especially if they work there. So maybe she'd be able to find a backpack or something like that there? And food and water, she'd go scrounging for those too, after the demons first attacked.
-I'm going with the idea that silver works against demons (largely from the novels and manga, but Lucia's throwing knives in DMC2 are stated to be silver), and Abbie wore some silver jewelry to Fortuna because she wanted to look nice on her business trip. It's not anything fancy, really, no diamonds or anything, just in case she lost it or had it stolen, but it's nice enough to look pretty- and its actual silver.
Side note: Silver doesn't really do anything to Vergil, btw. The most it'll do is give him a mild rash, and that's only if it's been touching his skin for an hour or more. Holy Water still burns like acid, tho. It won't make his skin dissolve on contact, like Holy Water will with lesser demons, but it still HURTS. It still makes his skin blister and bleed, and it slows down his healing factor. The damage from the Holy Water still heals to like a bad sunburn within an hour or so, normally. Faster if he uses his Devil Trigger, especially if he's somewhere close to the Underworld.
Back on topic: I could see Abbie trying to figure out a way to use the silver to defend herself. The thing I think she might settle on using would be a baseball bat or a broom handle wrapped in the silver chain of her necklace. Not sure how much good that would actually do her as a weapon, but she'd want something to whack the demons with if they got too close. Or maybe her wrapping the silver chain around her knuckles as an improved knuckle duster. Still not great, and punching a normal person hurts no matter what you do, but she's determined, damn it. Also, maybe Vergil wrapping her hands with long strips from what they cut off of her dress? To help keep her from hurting her hands through their little demonic adventure. (Also because more hand touches 👀)
Anyway, Vergil and Abbie are having a... lets call it "sparring match", but really its just Abbie brainstorming and Vergil letting her touch him, mostly so he can show her how fast demons can move. All he really does is dodge or gently tap her to let her know how easily she could be hit. He's got his jacket off to make moving around easier, and he doesn't miss the way she blushes as he slides it off, or the way she stares at the muscles on his arms. Beyond smirking at the attention and maybe teasing her, tho, I don't think he'd really do anything. (He really is having fun flirting with her, to his suprise. Largely because she doesn't push him for anything more. Although he's starting to wonder if he'd mind if she did... It'd have to depend on how she did it. Not "demanding" more, but just... asking. Just asking might be alright.)
She tries wrapping the silver necklace around Vergil's wrists as a way to restrain him, with his hands bound either in front of him or behind him. I'm tempted to go with in front of him, just so Abbie can practice whatever knot she needs to use to bind his hands. Assuming the silver chain of a necklace is even long enough to bind someone's hands with. Depends on the length of the chain, I guess, I'm just not sure what the minimum length would need to be. Hmmm. *makes a note to research later*
Anyway. Vergil holding his "bound" wrists up in front of her as a way of showing her how thin the silver chain is on his wrists, and telling her how easily he could snap it.
Vergil: "This wouldn't work. One, because the chain is too thin and flimsy. Look at this." [holds his wrists up for her to see] "I could snap this like a bit of old string. And two -" [And here, Vergil puts his bound wrists behind her head, trapping her neck between his lower arms, pulling her towards him] "-you're too close.* If you let a demon get this close to you, they can rip you to shreds before you can get away."
Abbie, flustered by trying to focus and think: "So... stick with throwing knives and polearms, then?"
Vergil: "And running for your life."
Abbie, shrugging: "Well, yeah, obviously."
Put a little * there to indicate where these thoughts would be, but didn't want to break the flow of the text. Those thoughts are: Vergil's pretending to be professional here, is trying to KEEP himself professional, but he can't stop staring at her blushing face and admiring how she's still trying to take in what he says and come up with a solution even through her own flustered feelings. He tries to ignore the fact that he can feel how her pace quickens from where the skin of his lower arms is pressed against her throat, can feel her slight gasp when he pulls her closer to him, can feel how warm her skin feels against his. How he can smell her scent, even through the stink of the demons they've been fighting. Can't stop thinking about how close they are, how easy it would be to move his bound hands lower, behind her, down her back, and pull her just a bit closer to him. To bend down until their foreheads touched and he could, if she let him, just lean down and kiss her.
He can still taste her blood on the back of his throat, even past the foul, bitter taste of the demon blood he licked off her hand (or arm), to keep the demon's blood from hurting her any further. That taste and her scent, so close, is enough to make his mouth water with an entirely different - and for Vergil, largely unfamiliar - hunger.
What would kissing her taste like? What would it feel like? What would it feel like if he slipped his tongue into her mouth, sliding it against hers and breathing in her moans? He's read romance novels where the characters talk about that like it's the best thing in the world, and before now he's never seen the appeal. Would it really feel that good, if he tried it now, here, with her?
And then he chides himself for getting distracted again while there's still demons to worry about, and lets her go and tries to get his mind back to business.
Basically just demisexual demiromantic Vergil go brrr. He's used to his usually low libido being distractingly Annoying when it does act up, but he's not used to actually looking at a person and feeling sexual attraction to them. At this point in his life, he doesn't really have the words to label his own sexuality and romantic inclinations, or lack thereof, so this is all kinda new and confusing to him. What's even stranger to him is that he actually does enjoy flirting with her. Its actually kind of fun! And he actually does like being with her. Which- he usually just avoids people by default, so that's kinda a novelty for him.
-Abbie being good at throwing knives because her aunt and uncle-in-law are traveling carnies and she learned how to throw knives from the knife throwers there. She can throw knives while wearing roller skates, too, even, tho probably only if the targets are stationary balloons filled with glitter. As for why she went with being a librarian rather than a carnie:
Abbie: "Just think of it as sort of like... growing up in the theater, but with more glitter and clowns and Ferris wheels. I just found I liked the stories more than the performing. I kept the knives, though. I always liked being able to do that. Very useful. Even against demons, apparently."
I'm not sure if she'd of been able to bring throwing knives with her, since she came to Fortuna on a business trip, or if she'd of been able to find any on anyone after the first demon attack. I could see Vergil giving her her own set of Summoned Throwing Knives, tho- kinda like Mirage Edge, but as throwing knives instead of a greatsword. I could see Abbie handling them and throwing them and being shocked at how light they are, and how easily and how deep in they go into a target once she throws them. Her throwing one for the first time and putting way more strength into it than she needs to, because it was so light in her hands she thought it was going to be like trying to throw a piece of paper at someone, with the Summoned Throwing Knife just gently, uselessly fluttering to the ground in the vague direction she threw it in. But it doesn't! It flies straight and true and buries itself so deeply in that she can't even see the hilt sticking out anymore.
Cue Abbie giving a delighted little gasp and clapping (happy stimming!), saying she loves them. And maybe hugging Vergil while thanking him, because, well. Because it's been a very weird time, and she's just so relieved and happy to actually have a decent weapon that she can use, and actually knows HOW to use. And because she loves a good set of throwing knives. Vergil lets her hug him, but is kinda awkward about it. They're both awkward about it, honestly, once Abbie realizes what she's doing (hugging him). Cue various amounts of blushing from both of them, and Abbie letting go and them both awkwardly trying to pretend that didn't happen. Abbie still thanks him again for the throwing knives, tho, because she really does appreciate it. Abbie, admiring her new knives and grinning: "They're beautiful."
-Might nix this one later, but: Abbie seeing Vergil's DT form and, after a brief flinch and a check that its still him, her telling him it looks pretty and her being fascinated by it. She tries not to pry, because he's a person, damn it, not an experiment or a new book to study... but he just looks so cool! So pretty! And she has so many questions! But she holds back, because this is a more... personal topic for him than just general info on demons. Vergil doesn't stay in DT form for long, tho, even so.
-Idea for the Boss Battle from the book: Gonna be unoriginal and go with it being some sort of demon made of blood, like the Blood-goyles from DMC3. Just because I can't imagine anything more annoying than trying to cute what is essentially a giant blob of liquid/blood. Might change it to something cooler later on, because that feels kinda lame, especially as a boss for Vergil.
-I'm also toying with the idea of Vergil and Abbie getting sucked into a demiplane (think like a fucked up Escher painting, but with bookcases, sorta like Hermaeus Mora's Apocrypha) within the book and having to kill the demon (the giant blood blob) sealed within the book to get out again. Mostly because it lets me fuck around with time more, since maybe time could move differently within the book, compared to outside it. Three days inside the book, three minutes or three hours outside of it, that kind of thing. I guess it depends on how much bonding time they'd need.
-Vergil giving Abbie a Summoned Knife (not a throwing knife, something bigger- a dagger?) and Abbie using it to kill a demon. She'd of made sure that this demon's blood wasn't acidic/toxic to humans first, but:
Her falling to the floor at just the right moment to be under a demon while it was leaping at her in midair, and her taking that opportunity to use one of her Summoned Knives to slit its belly open. She had to close her eyes and mouth tight and turn her face away as soon as she felt the knife make contact, so she didn't get warm, disgusting demon blood and viscera all in her mouth and eyes, and she still got covered in so much of it she couldn't talk until Vergil had helped her scrape the blood off her face, but it worked. Hurray!
Also, maybe Vergil helping her kill the demon (if Abbie slitting it open like that wasn't enough to fully kill it, or if she couldn't cut deep enough with just a knife) by turning her Summoned Knife into a Summoned Sword mid-slice? Just because it'd cool to see that.

I got forced to the wall by some driver says Tsunoda after clash with team mate | RaceFans Round-up
In the round-up: AlphaTauri driver Yuki Tsunoda said he was unaware how serious the damage to his front wing was after his first-lap contact with his team mate. In brief Tsunoda retired from the sprint race after suffering damage on the opening lap. He hit the wall hard at turn 13 but had already sustained damage to his front wing at turn three after a clash with Nyck de Vries, his team mate. “De Vries hit me,” Tsunoda report on his radio after the contact. He told his team he needed to pit, then added, “what is he doing, honestly?” He then understeered into the wall. “I just didn’t recognise fully that the front wing is really damaged and as soon as I entered, I just had no grip at all from the fronts,” Tsunoda said after the race. “I got forced to the wall from some driver and had contact with a driver and lost the front wing there. Asked to identify who he believes was responsible for pushing him into the wall, Tsunoda replied: “I can’t say here.” McLaren hopeful ill Piastri will recover McLaren are hopeful Oscar Piastri will be in better shape for today’s race. The rookie driver is suffering with an illness this weekend. “I think he’s going to be okay for tomorrow,” said team principal Andrea Stella after the sprint race. “But today, yesterday, the day before, it’s been a little bit of a struggle. So he’s actually doing very well, I would say. “In terms of driving you wouldn’t be able to say from outside that the driver is actually not feeling very well. And also Oscar is impressive also in the way he deals with that, because he doesn’t want to show it even to us. He keeps his calm, keeps his bearing. “We know that he’s struggling, so he’s doing well. But we are positive that for tomorrow he should be in a better situation.” No need for late red flag after F2 crash – Bearman Oliver Bearman believes the FIA were right to not show a red flag in the Formula 2 sprint race which finished under a Safety Car in Azerbaijan. At the lap 18 Safety Car restart, six drivers retired from the race in collisions including race leaders Dennis Hauger and Victor Martins. The Safety Car was deployed in response and the race finished after 21 laps with the field still neutralised. Bearman agreed with the decision not to red flag and restart the race, which F1 did following a late incident in the Australian Grand prix at the beginning of the month. “Of course it was quite a big crash but I didn’t see the extent of it,” Bearman said in response to a question from RaceFans. “I was just trying to avoid it. “When I looked on the replay screens it looked quite severe, but clearly the drivers got out just fine and there was no need for a red flag.” Garcia takes two wins as F1 Academy begins Marta Garcia won the first F1 Academy race and added another victory in race three to lead the championship after the first round at the Red Bull Ring. Needing to open up
I know you or anyone will not see this..as everyone has removed me...but I just need to open up and talk and not hold it in.  Which I am glad no one will see this, as I dont want it to feel like trying to guilt anything, just trying to put my words out there.  I did wrong...and I know this.. ultimately I guess it was the ultimate unforgiveable wrong.  I may have thought wrong about Jon early on..due to stupid fear for one... yes some things was my emotions...but ultimately I always cherished the best friendship more than anything, and even early on I never wanted to lose it, no matter what my emotions wanted to think or do.  Coming off from the whole Tim bullshit, it did a doozy on me, as I kept fearing the worse for our friendship, and I misunderstood Jon 1000% then...due to not understanding the lifestyle, or thinking the worse again, without getting to know him.  After our break that November (and even then I thought it was influence when it wasnt), and during the Ohio weekend, I got to learn Jon better and understand. Before that...yes I had bad opinions on him, and at times you (to be fair...there were bad opinions of me before too...but it doesnt make it right)...while I tried to make amends within, it was too late in general.   I feel worse..and trying to get better on my own...but I really am missing my best friend.  Someone that I can talk to about anything...and someone in the last 2 years since Ohio, I only wanted as my best friend (with our usual joking aside).  Never have I had a friend EVER likle you were I can talk to about anything, and even someone that pushes me when I feel like I cant go on anymore.  I got more motivation and compassion from you than “family”, other friends, and even those I was in relationships with.  I have so much good and bad going on...and no one to share it with... like my own place...putting up the tree...the car accident (I was rear ended), and more.  Nikki wrote me off...which I understand...I no longer have contact with Abby and Bella (which hurts)...nor Benji (which MAJORLY hurts)...I do have Pepper...that I had to fight for...but to be fair...I dont want to keep Pepper from them...I still want to work out a trading schedule so they can see Pepper, and I can see Benji
I am no longer in wrestling...but that is because I dont feel safe in it anymore...as some “misfits” like to get involved in personal stuff that doesnt involve them...one argued it does but it doesnt...as much as all his FAILED dating the last 2 years have involved me or anyone outside of him... but it is what it is.  I am still dealing with the med backlash from when everything happened with Angie... I was so scared of myself with the delirium... hearing stuff...doing stuff...etc..and it will take alot of therapy for it..but I am working on this...and havent given up... Im alone..and at first I wanted to go this route...which may be why I tended to push people away...but it hurts more being alone... BUT... I do deserve it... and hope one day to fix everything... Dec is going to be hard for sure...not having the family atmosphere... or even anyone to get gifts for...plus when the 12th rolls around...not having my baby boy around...or my rainbow to get thru that day...
I do deserve this...I really do...in my heart I offer apologies, remorse and everything...maybe one day it will be accepted...know this..I realized how great Jon was... and I am happy you have him and he has you...I wish I saw this BEFORE Ohio...and before letting people get into my head and trying to manipulate me to get what they want...I hope you two have each other for years and years to come... I hope you know that NO ONE can replace you... I love you as the bestest friend I ever had... thru good or bad...thru travels...thru death defying Geocaches... thru loving me when I hated myself... and visa versa...for being my rock (not the one that ran into my car)... my motivation...my shoulder angel... and my life saver still ... Im trying to keep it going...just hope to see you again...  now people may ask why type this when its not going to be read... well..its better than talking to myself or the cat... and better than holding it in...sometimes things have to be let out to heal...no matter the outcome of letting it out

Lost self confidence
Anon: Can I request a lil one-shot where y/n has been on the team for a while and she put on some weight/starts feeling insecure about it and Gibbs helps her feel better? :> If not it's okay (Preferably a lot of fluff, angst & smut up to you)
Anon: Can I ask for a plus sized reader and gibbs please? I never see them :( Maybe someone says something about her weight when theyre working a case or something and he does the gibbs-legendary-elevator-conversation??? OuO
I thought those two requests work well together. Enjoy, lovely anons! ❤️
Warnings: punch, mention of blood, hurtful comments about weight

~~~~~
Your body changed. A lot. More than you like to admit.
You have been avoiding mirrors for a while now, but as you stand in front of it right now, only dressed in underwear, you have to face it. Your body changed and you don’t like it. Actually, you hate it.
As you look at your stomach that used to be flat, your hips that are larger, the celulitis… you can’t help but to think it’s no wonder you’re alone. Who could you attract, looking like this? Not many people and definitely not the man you wish you had. He has probably noticed how your body is different. Maybe before, you stood a chance with the man but not anymore. It’s a lost cause.
You put some clothes on and left for work.
You and your team are working on a tricky case, you are not impatient to get into the office today. But as always, you put on your best smile and pretend that everything is okay. Even though it’s most definitely not.
You skipped breakfast this morning - on purpose - but when you sit at your desk, you can see a brown bag sitting there. You look inside; donuts. Not just regular donuts, but your two favorites.
“Gibbs’s treat.” Tony lets you know.
“What’s the occasion?” you casually answer, putting the bag aside. It’s definitely a bad idea to eat them.
“No occasion. You’re just his favorite,”
You can’t help but smile at this. Not that it’s true, but it feels nice anyway. Before, you would have been happy about your boss’s attention, but not today. “Aren’t you going to eat them?”
“I’m not hungry. Do you want them?”
Tony grabs the bag before you know it. At least, you won’t have to throw them away.
You put yourself into work quickly after. You need to take your mind off your insecurities and how bad you feel about yourself. Tony tries to make casual conversation, just being his old self but as you barely answer, he realizes that something’s wrong with you. He just doesn’t know what.
“You’re staring.” You say to him, without looking up from your computer screen.
“You’re in a bad mood.” He states.
“Am not.”
“Y/N, please.” He stands up from his desk and walks up to yours. “I’m a trained investigator. Talk to me.”
“Not a chance.” You keep working, avoiding eye contact. You’re scared that he may read into you, or worse; that you may cry if he starts to ask too many questions.
“Did Gibbs get the order wrong?” He jokes. He doesn’t mean wrong at all, but it sets you off.
“Just-- leave me alone, DiNozzo.”
You practically jump for your chair, grab your laptop and walk away from the bullpen, leaving your coworker in awe. He’s not sure what just happened, but he’s more convinced that something’s really not okay with you.
You spend the next two hours hiding in the conference room. You didn’t work much, you mostly cried and felt sorry for yourself. You really hate yourself and your body right now. It’s not about gaining some weight, it’s also about how lonely you feel. You love your team more than anything, they really are like your family but when you get home at night, it’s just you. You and your thoughts. You and your loneliness.
You just want someone to get home to. Someone to cuddle, someone to love and who loves you back, someone to fall asleep with. Just someone.
You had your face buried in your arms when you heard the door opening. You look up, ashamed. Gibbs is standing here.
He closes the door behind him and walks to you. “You okay, Y/N?” he softly asks.
“Y-yeah. Just a bit tired.”
“You know, if DiNozzo pissed you off, you can tell me.”
You chuckle. “Nah, it’s nothing he did. I guess I got up on the wrong foot this morning, that’s it.”
Gibbs did let it go - for now - but you knew he didn’t buy any of it.
That is later's concern though, there is some news on the case and you need to get going. The afternoon went better; your mind was focused on the case, you didn’t have time to think of the rest. It’s only when you get back home that it hits again. Before taking a shower, you put a sheet on the big mirror in your bedroom. You don’t want to face your reflection for now.
*****
The next morning, you are in a better mood. Not entirely, you still skipped breakfast and avoided all the mirrors but you made a decision: you won’t let the team know. You won’t let them see you’re going through a tough time. It would only make things worse.
Everything’s going okay until that stupid lawyer shows up. You never wanted to see him again after hooking up with him over a year ago. He seemed nice and good looking, he flirted with you the whole time he was in the office, so when he invited you for a drink, you said yes.
Your agreement had something to do with Gibbs’s flirting with that shrink but to this day, you keep telling yourself that it hadn’t.
After a few drinks, you let the lawyer kiss you and before you knew it, you took him home and you had a one night stand.
The sex wasn’t the problem, you actually had a lot of fun. The problem was the next day.
He was gone before you woke up - still not a problem. But when Gibbs yelled at you for giving him some private information, you understood your mistake. The man had used you. While you were sleeping, he looked into your files and found the information he needed to save his client’s butt.
After that, Gibbs gave you the silent treatment for weeks. And he stopped being mad at you after you came to see him in his basement and did your mea culpa. No one ever talked about it since.
But now, the same man is standing in the middle of the bullpen. You growled to yourself before going in.
You don’t greet him at all, just sit at your desk. “Y/N? That’s you?” he says, apparently shocked.
You look at him briefly and don’t answer.
“My god, what happened to you?” he adds.
“Excuse you?” you snap.
“God, if you had been looking like this last year, I wouldn’t have been able to use you.”
His sentence feels like a punch in your stomach, it hurts. But it shouldn’t and you know it. But it still does. You stay there a moment, not knowing if you want to cry and beat the crap out of him. Probably both at the same, but you don’t move or don’t say a thing, you’re like frozen. You barely don’t notice when Gibbs pushes the man towards the elevator.
“Are you okay, Y/N?” Ziva asks.
In the elevator
“Overprotective much, Gibbs?” the lawyer tries to appear confident and unafraid. He has his back against the wall, and in a second, he can hear Gibbs’s fist hitting a few inches away from his head. If the fist had touched his nose, he probably would have needed plastic surgery.
“Ever in your life, you disrespect a woman like that again, and especially--especially not Y/N.”
The lawyer made many people angry over the years, but never had he seen a man as angry as Gibbs looks right now.
“The only reason my hand is in this wall and not your face right now, is because she wouldn’t want me to get in trouble, but trust me when I say that all I want to do right now is to shoot you right in your precious parts.”
Gibbs is panting from anger. He can’t remember the last time he said that many words at once. But there’s no way that he or anyone else can disrespect you like this. Never, under his watch.
“So I’m gonna be very clear, you give that case to someone else. I don’t give a shit who, you just do it. And I don’t ever want to see your face again. Cause if I do, you’ll be so disfigured, you won’t be able to get another woman. Ever.”
“I could sue you for those threats, Special Agent Gibbs.”
“Are you planning to?”
“Maybe I am.”
“Well, in that case--”
This time, Gibbs’s fist hit the nose.
Meanwhile, in the bullpen
“Are you okay, Y/N?” Ziva asks.
“Yeah-yeah,” you clearly lie as your eyes are watering.
Your coworker isn’t buying it. She takes a step forward and hugs you softly. “Please, don’t let him get to you.” she whispers in your ear. “You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.”
Those words make you cry. You are not really buying them, but it does something to hear them. And you know deep inside that Ziva wouldn’t say something she doesn’t think.
As she keeps hugging, you can feel someone else’s arms wrapping around both of you. It’s Tony and shortly after, Tim is joining. “I think we should call Ducky. We’re going to have a crime scene.” Tony jokes to light the mood.
“I don’t want Gibbs to put himself in trouble for me.” you sadly say.
“Y/N, if Gibbs hadn’t taken him in the elevator, we would all have jumped on him.” Tim tells you. Which surprises you because Tim is the one to avoid a fight as much as he can.
“Also, the only reason I’m not asking you out is because of Rule 12.”
You are about to answer to Tony when you can hear the elevator’s doors opening. You let go of one another and watch Gibbs as he comes back to you and takes you by the hand. “Someone may have to call 911.” he tells the rest of the team.
Gibbs takes you to the other elevator, the one that leads to the lower floors, where Abby’s lab and Autopsy are. But of course, he switches the button as soon as the doors close. He doesn’t say a thing, he just hugs you tight. “Your hand is blue, Gibbs.” you cry in his neck.
“Yeah and his nose is red, who cares.” he kisses your hair. “I don’t want you to cry because of him, Y/N. And especially not because of what he said.”
“But Gibbs--”
“Not ‘but’, Y/N. Look at me.” he softly grabs your chin with his non-injured hand and forces you to look into his eyes. “You may not believe me right now, but you’re beautiful, Y/N. Sexy. Hot.” you uncontrollably shake your head, not buying a word he says. “I know I’m not the best with words, so I’ll let my actions speak.”
Gibbs ducks his head just a bit and closes the gap between his lips and yours. He softly kisses. You probably have never been kissed this softly before. Gibbs is so gentle and tender, his lips move slowly but expertedly. You’re literally melting under him.
The kiss may have lasted for minutes, hours, you don’t really know. You lost track of time, as if the world had stopped spinning.
“I’m sorry I waited for something like this to happen to do it. I’ve wanted this for a very long time, Y/N.”
“Me, too, Gibbs. But I’m not sure that’s the best time. I’ve lost all self confidence and--”
He kisses you again, undoubtedly to make you shut up. “I’ll help you find it again. I wish you could see yourself through my eyes.”
You rest your forehead against his, some tears are still rolling down your cheeks. “You’re not bad with words.”
“I’m still better with touch.”
Protective Mamas and cuddle time (Kellex x Little!Reader)
Tumblr media
Request: More kellex x little reader? Maybe reader gets badly injured and kellex takes care of her?
Author’s Note: IDK how i feel about this one honestly. Im going to apologize because I don’t think it’s really on par with the others, but i hope you guys enjoy it. It me up with questions and asks because they're super motivating.
You took a deep breath, wiping the sweat away from your forehead, your eyes glued to the opposite of the field where Kelley and Abby had just stripped Jessie Fleming of the ball.
Canada was always a particularly difficult and physical opponent and today was no exception. Your kit was stained green from the number of times you had already hit the ground and it wasn’t even halftime yet.
Kelley looked up at you, and you nodded in response, beginning to casually move upfield and away from your defender. You watched for a second, waiting for the signal, and once you saw it, you took off upfield.
Your defender was too far behind, and completely confused by your sudden change in direction. You glanced over your shoulder just as Kelley crossed a beautiful ball right towards you.
It seemed to float over you. You probably could have waited 3 seconds for it to land right at your feet, but you wanted to prove a point. You wanted to show off a little. You rushed forward and leaped for it.
*****
You were very confused and entirely unsure of how you had gotten yourself into this position. You blinked up at the sky groaning. The light hurt your eyes. It was mean for the sun to interrupt your nap. That was why your mommies always made sure to close the blinds. They never made you wake up to bright lights.
 You tried to move your arm to cover your eyes, only to have it stopped by a warm hand.
“Hey babe, you need to stay still alright?” Alex said, her face appearing upside down in your line of sight.
Her face seemed to sway above you and the headache kicked in. It felt like you were falling, even though you were pretty sure you were laying on the ground.
It was terrifying.
“Wha appended?” You tried to ask. Your eyebrows furrowed at how slurred it sounded and how difficult it was for you to get them out.
Alex brought her hand to your cheek, lightly running her finger along your lips. She could tell you were slipping. “Shh babydoll,”
You tried in vain to lean into her touch, to wiggle just a little to be closer to her. Just the little movement caused pain to flare up in your hand and all the way down your side. Kelley also appeared above you, gently pushing your shoulders to keep you on the ground.
“Mama, it hurt,” You whined, tears coming to your eyes as you again tried to sit up and squirm away from the medic who was now kneeling on your other side.
“I know, but you gotta let Lena help you,” Kelley said, carefully pinning the arm next to her on the ground so you didn’t try to bat the medic’s hand away like you had last time. You whined loudly.
She shared a look with Alex. The team didn’t like to share who exactly amongst them was little with the world. It helped them to protect you and maintain some form of privacy. With you dropping, there was a good chance it could have the rest of the littles on the team dropping too (a disastrous situation that they would very much like to avoid).
Your girlfriends also didn’t like that you were in enough pain to send you crashing down into little space either. You were a tough cookie, so it had to be pretty bad.
“Hey Y/n can you tell me where it hurts?” The green-eyed medic asked softly, using the voice she would use if her own little one was hurt.
You squinted. Your ability to verbalize your thoughts was slowly dwindling as you sank deeper into little space.
Alex ran her thumbs over your cheek again, trying to help you stay grounded enough to answer. “Come on babydoll, you gotta tell her so she can help you,” Kelley added, rubbing your arm.
“My head an my tummy,” You mumbled.
Lena nodded at you, very carefully lifting up your shirt to take a peek at the bruised skin. She shook her head at your girlfriends and motioned to Vlatko that you were definitely gonna need to be subbed off the field. “Ok kiddo, we’re gonna get you off the field and get you all fixed up alright?”
“Mama come?” you asked as they loaded you onto the stretcher, still very out of it.
“Mama and mommy have to stay here, but Aunt Becky is gonna go to the back with you while we get you checked out,” Kelley said, kissing your forehead, and brushing a strand of hair out of your face.
It wasn’t even halftime yet and the team only had 3 subs to use. All three of you couldn’t leave the field, no matter how much Alex and Kelley wanted to go with you.
“Otay,” You said, your voice very far away.
“We’ll come to check on you right after we finish,” Alex added as they moved you off the field.
Both women watched you go, shaking their heads to try and get themselves back into game mode instead of worried mama mode. Big you wouldn’t be happy if they lost because you had to get taken off the field.
****
“Alright darling, let’s get you all comfy,” Kelley said, opening the hotel room door and holding it so Alex could carry you inside.
The game had ended with two more goals (one by Alex and another by Christen) both of which happened to go right past the defender whose sloppy playing had gotten you taken off the field. And the ride back to the hotel had been quiet and uneventful. Frankly, the hardest part was getting you cleaned up and changed out of your practice kit and into something a little more comfortable for the bus.
You had tried to be cooperative (a testament to how much pain you were in) but between the nausea from your concussion and your bruised ribs you weren’t that much help. Though the skin-on-skin contact in the shower had soothed you a little.
“Baba?” You asked sleepily into your mommy’s shoulder, lisping around the pacifier in your mouth.
“Yeah babydoll, we’ll get you a bottle,” Alex hummed, kissing the crown of your head and sitting on the edge of the bed.
It was rare that you were this little. You usually hovered around 3 and a half or 4, and typically preferred sippy cups to bottles. They didn’t mind you were younger today, it made you more cuddly.
“Alright kiddo, Batman or Nasa?” Kelley asked softly, swatting in front of you and Alex, holding up both sets of footy pajamas. Little you hated to sleep in sweats.
You peeked out from your mommy’s shoulder, squinting at your choices. The NASA one was cool, it had a little hood that looked like a space helmet, but the Batman one had a cape.
“Batman,” You mumbled after a few seconds, going back into your favorite hiding spot. Your girlfriends shared an indulgent smile.
Alex gently rubbed your back, before bringing a hand up to carefully remove you from her neck. “Batman it is, let’s get you changed,”
You tensed but allowed her to coax you back out. You let out a low whine as Alex helped you turn around in her lap. That whine got more insistent when Kelley encouraged you to lift up your hips so she could bet your sweats off. The small movement caused your ribs to ache and burn. You wiggled away from the pain, only making it worse.
“Easy baby,” Alex said into your ear, a hand moving to rub little circles on your belly to help calm you. They both waited for you to stop squirming before they very quickly finished helping you change. “there we go,” Alex hummed as Kelley finished pulling up the zipper and passed you your favorite stuffed dinosaur.
“You cuddle with mommy and I’ll get you your bottle,” Kelley said, lightly throwing your cape over your face and earning a little giggle (followed by a whine when it hurt your ribs to laugh as a glare from Alex).
“Uddle wit mommy,” you nodded, letting Alex maneuver you back to get under the covers and into a more comfortable cuddling position.
Alex smiled softly at you, helping you to tuck yourself back into her taller form and get Roary situated next to you before pulling up one of your favorite movies on the television- Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
Kelley rolled her eyes at the opening chords of the movie. The three of you had watched it so much that she could probably (and would probably because you liked it) quote the whole thing word for word. She pulled the bottle of milk from the microwave, shaking it and testing it on her wrist to make sure it wasn’t too hot.
“There you go darling,” Kelley said, hanging you the bottle and climbing into the bed next to you. You shifted a little, making sure that both you and Roary were comfortable (and that he wasn’t blocking your view).
“Tank you,” You murmured, proud that mommy didn’t have to nudge you to remember your manners.
“You’re welcome,” Kelley smiled, kissing your forehead. You wiggled again, and Alex rolled her eyes. Trying to keep you still for the next however many weeks was going to be a nightmare.
“Shh, baby just relax. We’ll take care of you,” Alex said, helping you shift and bring her hand to the back of your neck. She rubbed little circles onto the skin and very gently combed her fingers through your baby hairs.
It only took her a few minutes to have your head dropping further into Kelley’s shoulder and your eyes slipping shut.
“Wove mama and mommy,” You said already half asleep, lisping around your pacifier.
“We love you too baby,” They said together. They loved you more than anything and they were going to make sure you didn’t rush your recovery.
Til death do us part | Helmut Zemo
[Previous chapter] - [Next chapter]
Part 5
Bucky got the Baron back to the hotel without issue. Well, no other issue than the Baron's complaints. Zemo insisted on several occasion that Bucky turn the car back around and they go get you.
Bucky didn't say a single thing to him. He just kept driving. When he pulled up outside of the hotel he climbed out and opened the back door. He grabbed the Baron by the arm, ignoring all his complaining as he escorted him into the building.
Zemo was promptly taken up to his room. He was going to push Bucky off of him, but Bucky had a tight hold on him. Zemo is pushed into his room and Bucky stands in the way of the door. He clasps his hands together in front of him and stands there stoically, facing the Baron.
Zemo glares at him.
"I hired you, you should do I say."
"Our duty is to protect you, and protect you we did."
"You let them behind."
"Our duty comes first," Bucky tells him.
"Your duty involves leaving your colleagues to fall at the hands of armed gangs?" Zemo is fuming.
Granted, Zemo didn't care much for you when you arrived at his home. You weren't the same as your colleagues. You didn't look like bodyguard material. He didn't think you were capable.
He was wrong.
You put your life before his to ensure your job was done. He disrupted that by climbing out of the car and checking on you.
Why had he checked on you?
"You left them to die."
Bucky doesn't say anything, but Helmut picks up on the slight shift of his stance. Bucky felt guilty, as he should, but he also carried out his duty.
Helmut watched as Bucky raised a hand to his ear to listen to whatever was being said.
Bucky lowered his hand and said nothing.
"Well?" Zemo asks.
"They got away. The others are returning here now."
"And Y/N?"
Bucky doesn't answer him. This infuriates the Baron more.
Zemo had been to war. He was Colonel once. He had his own squad. He had seen people die, but to think that someone he hired to protect him had died doing just that, it felt strange to him.
You had given your life for his.
Thirty minutes later, Steve and the other make it to the hotel. Steve knocks on the door, giving the code word they had agreed upon to let them know it was each other. Bucky let's them in.
Zemo stands from where he had been sitting in silence with his own dreaded thoughts.
His room is filled by the other bodyguards.
"Well?" He demands.
"They got away. We fear the will come after you again. I think we should bring your visit to London to an end and rearrange this meeting some other time. We will firmly get in touch with the representatives to discuss this for you. For now, until things cool down, we will keep you here for the reminder of your trip. We suggest you don't leave your hotel room until it's deemed safe again. They are still in the city," Steve says, standing in front of the Baron.
Zemo couldn't give a shit about the meeting.
"And your friend?"
Steve looks a lite taken back that the Baron was even asking. Zemo didn't like you. At least, he didn't before.
"They were escorted to the hospital immediately after the ambulance arrived. They passed out, but are stable."
Zemo's shoulder sink down from their tense position and he casts his eyes off to the side slightly. He sighs softly.
"Take me to them."
"No can do, sir. You are to remain here until the threat level diminishes, Steve replies sternly.
"I demand to see them."
"I'm sorry, sir. We can't allow that."
Zemo hates those words with a passion. He needed to know you were OK. He needed to see you with his own eyes.
He owed you an apology.
Helmut sinks back down into his seat and tilts his head back. He runs his hands down his face and sighs again.
You were stable. He'll take what he can for now, though he isn't happy about it.
"So, you're going to keep me locked in my room?"
"Yes."
That was aspect number two in which he hated. Zemo rises from his seat and makes his way over to the bedroom of his suite. He closes the door behind him.
Once he was gone, the band of bodyguard turn to each other.
"Is Y/N OK?" Clint asks.
"Do you have any idea how hard it was to leave them there and bring him back?" Bucky says.
"They're stable right?" Nat chimes in.
"That was insane," Sam remarks.
Steve holds his hands out in front of him and tries to get them to quiet down.
"Y/N is alright though, right?" Carol asks.
"They're stable. They were shot twice. Once in the shoulder, once in the hip. I don't think they were aiming to kill Y/N, just get them down," Steve says.
"That asshole got out of the car," Bucky tells them.
"He did?" Nat asked.
"Yeah, he went over to Y/N. He looked pretty damn worried too. Did we miss something?" Bucky asks.
"Maybe he feels guilty about being an asshole?" Clint suggests.
"I doubt that," Carol says.
"Whatever it is, don't worry about it. He's safe and Y/N will live. I have to make a call to Stark. Do not let him leave the room," Steve said, making his way outside into the hall.
Bucky stays planted by the door as the other scatter around and wait.
"Y/N was incredibly brave," Nat says, deep in thought.
"They're a brilliant bodyguard, we all know that," Sam says.
"Has Y/N ever been shot before?" Carol asks, trying to think back.
"Yeah, a while ago. It was years ago, back when they started," Sam answered.
"Damn, I remember that," she says, the memory coming back.
"It's going to take a lot more than that to bring our Y/N down," Bucky states.
They all agree.
In his room, Helmut was leaning against the door. He would hear them talking about you. He felt a fool for ever doubting your skills. To hear you had been shot at before made him wonder. You must really love your job if you could get shot at and carry on.
Then again, he should know how that feels.
Not only back in the army, but back on that day too. Walker had taken everything from him as a result of trying to get rid of him, only to fail. He paid the price that day.
He lived. They didn't.
He closes his eyes and tries to block out the horrid images which threatened to flood back into his mind. Sometimes he can see them when he closes his eyes.
You were in much the same position today. It was as if he was seeing it all over again.
Zemo pushes away from the door and falls onto the bed, trying to bury his face in his pillow.
"I don't want to remember," he mutters.
He falls asleep there, still dressed and disheveled. He sleeps right through dinner, which is left at his bedroom door untouched.
Most of the bodyguards had excused themselves from the room, returning to either their room or the hall.
Steve and Sam remained in Zemo's room.
It had been six hours since the shooting in central London. It was all over the news, which Steve had on, but kept the volume low.
There weren't any shots of the actual shooting, reporters only getting there after the event was over, but witness statements from people in the surrounding buildings gave a pretty good description of what went down there.
No one mentioned your sustained injury.
He was rather glad about that. You could recover in piece.
He hadn't told anyone yet about the phone call to Tony. He wasn't quite prepared to share the details until he had a chance to speak to you. He would do so in a couple of days. He had contacted the hospital and they agreed to call him when you were ready for visitors.
Sam looks a the untouched plate of food.
"You think he's going to eat that?"
The food had been brought up a short while ago. This would be the second meal they ordered that he hadn't touched.
"You can have it. I'll get him something when he comes out."
Sam picks up the plate.
"What do you think is wrong with him? He wasn't like this before."
Steve shrugs.
"I don't know. Something must have happened between them out there. Yesterday he couldn't understand what Y/N was even doing with us, today he's locked himself away because they saved him. I don't know what's going on."
Sam sighs softly.
"I'm at least glad he isn't hating them now though. Y/N is more than capable of protecting that asshsole. Hell, they proved it."
Steve just nods silently.
His phone begins to ring. Steve gets up and goes to answer it on the other side of the room.
Sam watches in interest.
Steve hangs up and turns back around to Sam.
"Y/N is awake. I'm going to go see them. Keep Zemo here. I'll call you later."
Sam nods and watches Steve go.
There were no words to describe how relieved Sam felt right now. You were going to be just fine. He knew you would be.
Probably best he didn't mention it to Zemo just yet.
March 31, 1995
For the third time that night, Angelina Johnson rolled her eyes at you and hit you with her pillow. Hard. So hard that you ended up toppling off of your bed due to the excited, unbalanced position you were in, practically standing at the edge of your bed.
“Angie!” you screamed from the floor, your smile cracking through the angry façade you were putting on.
“Oh you deserved it Y/N!” your roommate yelled. “If I have to hear you talk about Fred for one more minute I swear...”
“I second that,” said Alicia Spinnet from her bed, rolling her eyes for the umpteenth time that night. “Just grow a pair and ask him out already!”
 “You’re crazy, absolutely insane,” you replied, climbing back onto your sheets only to be knocked down by your friend once again.
 “Ok I swear I’m done now,” Angelina said through her giggles. “But Alicia’s right. It’s been two bloody years, why don’t you get up off your timid ass and actually do something? What could go wrong?”
 “What could go wrong?”
 Alicia groaned at your incredulous tone, knowing exactly what Angelina had just started. She covered her ears with her pillow, hoping to drown out the next barrage of rapid fire words from your mouth.
 “Would you like the possibilities listed alphabetically or by order of significance?” you quipped, not giving either of the girls any time before you started again. “First of all, he would laugh at me. Then he’d realize how sad it was that I thought I actually had a chance with him and he’d make fun of me to the entire school. And you know that Fred can’t keep his damn mouth shut!”
 The girls murmured in agreement, knowing firsthand to never tell Fred any secrets unless they wanted the entire student body and population of England to know as well.
 “So he’d tell everyone,” you continued, “and they’d all make fun of me and talk about me behind my back. ‘Oh there goes poor Y/N, she’s so sad that she thought that the hottest guy in school would be interested in her! What a stupid stupid girl.’”
 “I personally think his brother is hotter, but to each his own,” Angelina murmured.
 “Bloody hell they’re identical twins, they’re practically the same,” said Alicia.
 “They’re not the same,” you and Angelina replied in sync, turning to each other and giggling before you finished your rant.
 “Anyways, the whole school would think I’m a moron, all of Fred’s family would think I’m a moron, and I’d probably be a laughing stock at The Burrow and I’d be too embarrassed to spend another summer there with everyone making fun of me! So that is why I will not be confessing my feelings any time soon.”
 Your friends just sighed and rubbed their temples, used to hearing this kind of talk from you.
 “You know you’re hot as fuck, right?” said Alicia, gesturing up and down and seeming to check you out.
 “I know that,” you replied confidently. Something about being friends with Alicia and Angelina had brought out your confidence and you knew your self worth, but not when it came to the love of your life. “But there’s plenty of girls here who are hotter and haven’t had their hair held back by him while they threw up their guts into the toilet.”
 Alicia choked on the drink she was sipping, remembering that party a few months ago. “Yeah, remind us not to let you have firewhisky again you lightweight.”
 You tossed your pillow at her, making her spill her drink and grumble in your direction.
 “Alright if you won’t tell him, why don’t you hint at it and hope for him to make a move?” Angelina suggested. “His birthday’s tomorrow, what did you get him?”
 “I, umm, I didn’t have that much money, so I had to be more... creative about it.” You pulled a sweater from one of your drawers, a deep purple color with orange stitching along the sleeves and collar. “Molly taught me how to knit over the summer and I’ve been working on this ever since. Do you think he’ll like it?”
 “That is the sweetest thing ever, Y/N,” said Angelina. “And Fred doesn’t care about money or wealth, I’m sure he’ll love it. Trust me, give him this and flirt with him all day tomorrow and I’m sure he’ll get the hint.”
 “He hasn’t gotten it yet, and I’ve done nothing but flirt all year!”
 “Then flirt harder,” said Alicia. “Give it all you have, and if it doesn’t work out then he’s a good for nothing prick. That’s how I live my life,” she said shrugging.
 “Great advice, thanks,” you drawled. “But alright, I’ll try harder. Tomorrow’s gonna be a day to remember!”
 ------------------------------
 April 1, 1995
 You and your roommates slowly snuck out of your room the next morning, being as quiet as humanly possible. On a normal day you wouldn’t bother to be this careful, but today was not a normal day. It was April 1st, the twins’ birthday. Also know as their favorite day of the year, April Fools’ Day.
 Alicia stubbed her toe on one of the steps and let out a small peep, making you and Angelina turn to her in horror. Your cover was blown.
 “Well, well, well,” came a voice from down the stairs. “What do we have here?”
 You shoved Angelina in front of you, clutching the back of her uniform for dear life. “You go,” you whispered. “You’re the strongest.”
 “No,” she said quickly, “Alicia’s the fastest, she can outrun them and cause a distraction!”
 “You know I wouldn’t even make it out of the common room,” Alicia replied. “Y/N can go first, she can talk them out of doing anything.”
 “Yeah, right,” you scoffed. “Like that’s ever worked before. I ended up going to bed to find a giant snake my sheets.”
 “Well, someone has to go first!” Angelina hissed.
 The three of you continued your argument in low voices, none of you wanting to be the first to face Fred and George's wrath. You were so caught up in your conversation that you didn’t even notice the figure behind you until they cleared their throat.
 You all screamed and you tripped over Angelina, causing you all to tumble down the few last stairs. The second you made it to the bottom, you felt a warm, gooey liquid dripping down your head. Reaching your hand up to touch it, you saw that it was a green goop that was now covering you and your friends.
 Laughter erupted from both sides of you. The person who had been standing behind you, who you now realized was George, was holding Colin Creevey’s camera and snapping a picture. Fred, standing practically over top of you, was doubled over clutching his stomach from laughing so hard.
 You sighed and looked down, already defeated. “Happy birthday, Freddie.”
 “I think you mean,” he said through giggles, “happy April Fools’ Day!”
 Angelina and Alicia were shooting daggers at the twins, who were still laughing and snapping photos.
 “This makes quite the pretty picture, doesn’t it Freddie?” George asked, showing him the camera.
 “Ah, yes it does! Y/N, you look beautiful as ever darling, even covered in goo.”
 You put your hands out, expected for him to help you stand up. Once he hoisted you to your feet you threw your arms around him, wiping as much substance as you could onto his clothes.
 “Hey!” he said, trying to escape your death grip.
 “What?” you asked innocently. “Can’t a girl hug her friend on his birthday?” You emphasized your words by grabbing some goo from your hair and reaching up to ruffle his, spreading it through his ginger locks.
 “You’re a handful, love,” he said, finally giving up on escaping the revenge.
 “But you can handle me, can’t you?” You winked at him and let him go, turning around to see George pinned to the ground by Angelina, face covered in green.
 “I give, I give! I’m sorry!” She got off of him and offered him a hand up. You looked around at everyone to see that you all were a mess, covered head to two in Fred and George’s prank.
 “Well,” said Alicia, “this is not how I wanted my morning to go, but I didn’t expect anything less. I’m gonna go get changed.”
 “Me too,” said Angelina and George nodded as well, heading to their respective dorms.
 This left only you and Fred. Your heart started pounding. How were you supposed to flirt even more than you usually did? Were you supposed to make a move, maybe confess your feelings?
“I, umm, I have your present upstairs,” you said finally. “It’s not very good, but I can go grab it for you now if you’d like. After I’m clean that is.”
He bumped your shoulder with his, making your heart beat even faster. “I’m sure I’ll adore it, love. And actually, I was wondering if I could ask you something?”
“Yeah, of course, what is it?”
Fred avoided eye contact, fidgeting with his messy uniform. “Umm, why don’t we hang out today and I can tell you then. We could maybe, go on a picnic for lunch? You don’t have to if you don’t want to.”
A large grin grew on your face, spreading slowly but surely. Maybe you didn’t have to be the one to make a move after all. “Of course I want to, Freddie! It’ll be fun.”
“Great!” he said relieved. “I’ll see you then.”
You nodded as he ran to catch up with George. As soon as he left the common room you nearly fell over, having to hold onto a wall to keep yourself up. You sprinted to your room, mind racing with exactly what you were going to wear this afternoon.
------------------------------
“Hey, love,” Fred called from across the entrance hall. “You look great.”
You blushed a little, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear and trying to subtly look him up and down. Fred had dressed a little nicer than usual for your picnic, which made you feel better about putting in so much effort yourself.
He came over and grabbed your hand in his, linking your fingers together and pulling you out the door. You wished your hands weren’t so clammy, and you hoped that Fred couldn’t tell.
He took you to a secluded part of the courtyard, the corner where most kids would go to make out. Was that what was happening? Did he want to kiss you?
Fred spread out a blanket and opened the picnic basket, containing both of your favorite foods.
“Looks so good Freddie,” you said. “Snuck into the kitchen again, didn’t you?”
“What can I say,” he shrugged. “Guy’s gotta eat.”
“You said like Ron.”
“Don’t ever insult me like that again, woman, or I will never speak to you”
You rolled your eyes at him and leaned back on your elbows. “Having Fred Weasley actually leave me alone for five minutes? That would be absolutely horrible. What would I do, not being able to hear about your pranks and projects?”
He leaned forward to tickle your sides, making you flail around and kick him away. “You’d be so desperate for me back, you’d probably lock yourself in your room all day.”
“Oh I’m sure,” you replied, sarcasm dripping from your tongue.
The two of you continued to eat and talk, mostly about his plans for his birthday and how he was going to terrorize his mum once he got home for the summer because he could now legally do magic outside of Hogwarts. After what felt like forever of laughing and rolling around on the blanket and grass, your curiosity was finally getting the best of you.
“Alright Fred, enough’s enough,” you said, turning partly serious. “Why did you ask me out here with you?”
Fred got nervous once again, grabbing some more food to shove in his mouth to buy him some time before answering.
“I’m waiting. What, you wanted to ask me out but got too nervous? Huh, is that it?” You were completely joking, but Fred didn’t seem to correct you. He just turned to you and gave you a small nod, shocking you to your core.
“What?” you asked, needing clarification.
“Uh, well, Y/N, there’s something important I need to say.” He looked jumpy and excitable, but there was also a cocky gleam in his eye, which was always present with the boy. “I’m madly in love with you. I have been since we were 15, and I just needed to let you know. I want to hold you and kiss you and grow old with you, my darling princess. Will you do me the honor of being my girlfriend?”
You sat there in complete surprise. This couldn’t be real, could it? Fred Weasley had loved you since you were 15? The tingles you always got when he said something to yo couldn’t compare to what you were feeling now.
Fred opened his mouth in a wide grin about to say something, when you cut him off with a hug. “Oh Freddie, you don’t understand how happy that makes me! I’ve loved you for forever, you’re perfect. Of course I’ll be your girlfriend.”
You held him tighter, burying your face in his neck and soaking in the feeling of being Fred’s girlfriend. But Fred had a completely different feeling running through him.
He made eye contact with George, who was hiding in the bushes with his camera ready. He mouthed a question but Fred just shook his head in confusion. This wasn’t supposed to happen.
You were supposed to laugh at him, become super uncomfortable. Fred knew that you only saw him as a friend and flirted with him jokingly. He’d never in a million years expect for you to confess your feelings back to him.
He didn’t know what to do. You were just so open and vulnerable, confessing everything you’d been holding back. So, acting against George’s frantic suggestions, he completed the hug, resting his head on the top of yours.
What was he supposed to do? You were his best friend, he couldn’t bear to see you get hurt. How was he supposed to tell you, that this was all an April Fools?
Maybe a Secret Saturday and DP crossover with the Fenton's being approached to join the Secret Scientists. The parents are quickly deemed too biased against ghosts to join until further notice. Their kids, on the other hand. The son's not quite a scientist, but he has potential. And their daughter would be perfect.
“Remind me why I’m doing this again?”
Doc gave Zak a look.  “Because the Secret Scientists need new members.  Potential members need to be screened by existing members.  And the Fentons have kids your age.”
Zak raised a skeptical eyebrow.  “I don’t exactly get along with ‘kids my age.’”  It was true.  Ulraj and Wadi were exceptions to the rule, and even interactions with them had been rough at first.  It had been four years since he met them, and they were still just about his only friends.
Zak just didn’t do ‘normal’ very well.  Sure, he could integrate himself into a group for the sake of information gathering, but that usually didn’t last very long.  Thirty minutes, tops.
“I know,” said Doc.  “But sometimes people will say things to and around kids that they wouldn’t otherwise, and we want to be thorough.  Make sure we’re inviting ethical people.  No more Abbies.”
“I guess that makes sense,” said Zak.  He sighed.  He knew Fisk wouldn’t be able to come.  Most of the time, they were able to get away with people assuming he was a guy in a suit, or just ignoring him in favor of much more obvious, more immediately dangerous cryptids, but that wouldn’t be something they could get away with when it came to prolonged contact.
It never seemed fair to Fisk.
(Cryptids always seemed to get the short end of the stick.  Even the ones who were as intelligent as any human.)
“You don’t have to be friends with them,” said Doc, putting a hand on Zak’s shoulder.  “Just like we don’t have to accept the Fentons into the Secret Scientists...  But give it a chance?”
“Okay,” said Zak, shrugging.  “A chance.”
.
Danny loved his parents.  They loved him.  He knew that they were brilliant scientists who had made incredible breakthroughs in a difficult and poorly regarded field.  They deserved recognition and funding.  They had no colleagues with whom to correspond or test ideas with.  They had no real friends.  They deserved that, too.
All in all, Danny thought they deserved the position in the think tank that was about it interview them.
But Danny felt sick at the idea of them spreading their biased and hateful theories about ghosts to yet another group.  He hated the very thought of even more people, more scientists, more people who were trying to do good in the world, calling him and the other ghosts evil just because of the way they existed.
But he didn’t know how to stop it.  Not without revealing himself, and he was too much of a coward to do that.
... Maybe he could convince their kid he was a jerk?
Ugh, no.  As inconsiderate as he could be unintentionally, he was incapable of being a jerk on purpose.  Unless the person deserved it.
(Jazz had once theorized that it had to do with his ghostly Obsession of helping others.  Danny theorized that not all aspects of his personality had to do with him being a ghost.  Jazz had dropped the theory shortly thereafter.)
He was worried.
Could pull a Harry Potter and drop a cake on someone’s head.  Would that work?
Unlikely.
There was one option, but it was a bit of a longshot.  He could tell the interviewers that he had doubts about his parents’ work and conclusions.  But would they believe him?  He was just a teenager.  Easy to dismiss.
What if he approached them as Phantom?
(What if they were just as gun-happy as his parents?)
This was hard.
He sighed, and swung himself off his bed.  Regardless of what he actually did, he needed to make himself ‘presentable,’ otherwise he’d never hear the end of it.
Although, concerning his appearance and his secrets...  He tugged lightly on the lock of gray hair he’d sprouted lately.  It had become a nervous habit.  One he really needed to stop, because drawing attention to white hair on his head was not something he wanted to do.
Maybe be should start dying his hair?
“Danny?” called Maddie from downstairs.  “The Saturday’s are here!  Come on down!”
Danny clattered down the stairs, being loud on purpose (the better to be undetected when he wanted to be quiet).
The Saturdays...  Huh.  Danny had not expected to ever see another family wearing jumpsuits.  Much less orange jumpsuits.  Jack looked overjoyed.
The Saturdays’ jumpsuits looked just slightly more combat ready, however.  Danny’s stomach, which had already been sitting rather low in his chest, plummeted.
He did not foresee this going well in any way, shape, or form.
He forced himself to turn his attention towards the son.  Who was color coordinated with his parents, but not, thankfully, wearing a jumpsuit.
(Interestingly, he did, however, appear to be armed.)
“Hi,” said Danny, waving slightly in greeting.
“This is our son, Danny,” said Maddie.  “Our daughter, Jazz, is at a study group right now, but she should be home before too long.  Danny, this is Doctor Solomon Saturday, his wife, Drew, and their son, Zak.”
Zak smiled at Danny in a slightly strained, awkward way.  His teeth were just a little sharper than human average.  There were flecks of orange and gold in his eyes.
This was a person who wasn’t quite human.
Maybe this would be easier than Danny thought.  He tugged on his lock of white hair.  “Prematurely grey buddies, huh?” he said.
“Oh,” said Zak, touching his own, much larger, tuft of white hair.  “Yeah.  I guess so.”
“Um,” said Danny, acutely aware of all the parental eyes on him.  “Video games?”
“Sure,” said Zak.
“Great,” said Danny.  “Let’s go.”
.
Zak followed Danny upstairs.
He was 99% certain the other boy wasn’t entirely human.  He wasn’t sure if it was simply intuition, or some remnant of his Kur powers, but he would put money on it.  If, well, he had anyone who’d bet with him.
(Doyle, maybe, but Doyle wasn’t here.)
(Where had this intuition been with Argost?  That’s what he wanted to know.)
“So,” said Danny, rocking slightly.  “Do you play Doom?”
“Now and then,” said Zak.  “Kinda prefer older games.”
“How old?”
“Uh...  I kind of like the pokemon games on the 64?”
“Oh, yeah, I’ve got a couple of those,” said Danny.  “Um.”  He flopped down in a beanbag chair.  “Just... make yourself at home, I guess?”
“Thanks,” said Zak, managing to catch the controller Danny tossed at him and sitting in the desk chair.
“So...” said Danny, not making a move to turn on the system.  “This is going to be weird to ask, but, um.  Do your parents know you’re not totally human?”
Zak stared.  He... hadn’t expected Danny to be able to tell that he had been Kur, much less come right out and ask him about it.
“Or...  you know what, forget I said anything.  It’s just a joke, haha, so, games-”
“Do yours know?”
Danny frowned.  “That you’re not human?”
“No, that you aren’t human.”
Danny looked away.  “No,” he said, fiddling with the controller.  “They’re not... very good about that kind of stuff.  If your parents are, that’s good.  It’s just...”  He rubbed the cord of the controller between his fingers.  “Mom and Dad are great at the technical side of things, but they don’t like being wrong.  And they think ghosts are unfeeling and mindless, so...”
“Oh,” said Zak.  “Um.  Are you,” he stopped, realizing that asking someone if they were dead was probably not a great idea.  He slumped down in his seat.  “I’ll tell my parents.”
“Yeah, if you could not tell them about me and just, like, the other bit, that’d be great.”
“I can do that,” said Zak.
.
Jazz carefully placed an envelope under the windshield wiper of the Saturdays’ car.  Knowing her brother, he was probably going to try something dramatic, but if these people were serious about being scientists, she was sure they would take evidence and data regarding the intelligence of ghosts much better.
And Danny had thought he was just humoring her when he helped her interview those ghosts!  Thought she had no other motives other than curiosity!
Well.  Honestly, he was right.  Back then, she didn’t know there was a think tank considering inviting her parents to join.
But, hey, it came in handy, didn’t it?
.
“It’s such a shame,” said Drew, writing her recommendation against the Fentons joining the Secret Scientists.  “They seemed like such nice people.”
“Yeah, but if both their kids are telling us they shouldn’t be let in,” said Zak, “and they don’t even know about the Secret Scientists, they think you’re just part of a think tank, how nice can they really be?”
Drew made a face, and reached over to give Zak a quick hug, which he just as quickly escaped.
“The daughter, though,” said Doc.  “She has a good foundation, here, with her research.”
“Maybe once she graduates high school,” said Drew.  “We have scholarships, don’t we?  Or maybe an internship...  Cryptid psychology might interest her...”
“What about Danny?” asked Zak, yelping as Fisk snuck up behind him and poked him.
“Hrrade hhr hrend?” said Fisk, slyly.
Zak narrowed his eyes.  “Maybe,” he said.
“We’ll keep an eye on them,” promised Doc.  “All the Fentons.  Just in case.”
D for Drunken Love Confession - Charles/Magnus
pre-klok. :') magnus has been chipping away at charles' resolve. there's just something about the bookish, put-together little chuck offdensen that makes magnus wanna break through all his defenses and see him come undone. he always did like a challenge. they have heated, passionate debates about the direction of the band. they get in each other's faces. magnus even kissed him once, but charles pushed him away, furious and blushing, and demanded he leave his office.
after six months of this weirdly charged back-and-forth they have, the band invites charles to come drinking with them to celebrate pickles' birthday. charles declines, concerned they're just inviting him to come because they want someone else to play designated driver. but magnus intervenes like "nah i'm driving tonight, promise. so go nuts." and charles seems to think it over... and eventually agrees.
so they all go out! at first charles seems to be pacing himself, but pickles gets shots, and it's all downhill from there. magnus, staying dutifully sober, watches the rest of the band + charles get sloppy and silly, not minding in the slightest the way charles leans against him a little in the booth and touches him when he laughs. he starts to regret not getting drunk himself, but he'd promised charles. it's enough just to see charles' mask slip, albeit not quite in the way magnus wanted. but he'll take it for now.
at the end of the night, magnus drops the band off at the apartment and then continues on to charles' place. he pulls up, and charles tries to get out of the car, but stumbles and falls. he's a lot more fucked up than magnus suspected. magnus helps him to the door, but charles seriously looks like he's about to black out, so he takes him inside, cleans him up a little, and puts him to bed (on his side, in the recovery position, he knows the drill). before he leaves, he can't help himself... he runs fingers through charles' sweaty hair and strokes his jaw. charles opens his eyes, seeming surprised that magnus is still there, and then... he smiles at him. a genuine smile. and as his eyes close again, he whispers something that freezes magnus in place.
"...mmfm...mmlove you..."
"...what?"
but charles is under again, and magnus leaves in a panic. charles doesn't, can't, have feeling for him. that's too much. magnus just wanted some fun, right? maybe get charles worked up enough for an angry fuck. but...love?
magnus can't sleep. the next time magnus sees charles, charles pulls him aside. "i apologize that you had to babysit me like that the other night. i can't exactly recall everything that happened, so if i said or did anything, ah...embarrassing, i'm very sorry."
so charles doesn't remember what he said. or he does and he's just trying to save face. magnus should be relieved about this, but for some reason his heart feels suddenly sore...
"oh, yeah, no...you were out like a light. don't worry about it."
I for "Idiots in Love" - Toki/Magnus
post-post-galaktikon. weirdly enough i'd probably write this from like nathan's pov or something. he's having everyone over to the house for some reason, maybe a holiday or his daughter's first birthday or something (her cool uncles wouldn't dream of missing it). this means..... rrugghhgh magnus is coming over. it's the first time he's interacted with magnus since pickles and charles' wedding, so maybe a good couple years, and he's not looking forward to it.
everyone arrives. toki and magnus are the last to show up, and nathan has to do a double-take because this is SO not magnus. half his hair is back in a ponytail, he's let his beard grow in some, and he's wearing a sweater?? and he's smiling? he genuinely seems happy to see nathan, gives him a hug, says a warm hello to abby.
over the course of the afternoon nathan has to keep looking at him and reminding himself that's magnus fucking hammersmith because he's just so... animated? friendly? he's sitting next to toki and they're holding hands, and when others are talking the two of them are making eyes at each other and cuddling and laughing at little things they seem to be sharing between themselves. they're being a couple of absolute goofballs together, and honestly it's a bit sickening to watch. is magnus just faking this?
at some point nathan excuses himself to the kitchen for something, and while he's in there he's joined by magnus, considerably more subdued.
"sorry, man, i just...i thought maybe we could talk for a sec."
so they talk. they catch up a little. nathan learns magnus has been hitting the therapy especially hard over the past year, making some meaningful strides. it's not an act, he's genuinely happier now. or at least trying to be.
"i mean, you know how it is, nate, right? doesn't abby make you wanna be better just because she exists and she loves you?"
okay, nathan can understand that. he still doesn't understand... them. but it really seems like magnus has turned a corner, which... good for him, he supposes. as long as he's treating toki well.
when they return to the party, nathan watches magnus sit back down with toki and give him a kiss like he'd been gone all month, and they giggle to themselves again. this time, it seems...all right.
L for "Love at First Sight" - Charles/Pickles
i'm gonna flip the script here!! i've already done the whole "charles sees pickles on stage and goes gaga for him" twice now... so i'd pull away from the 80s and do a fic where they actually did meet for the first time in the mid-90s when pickles was in dethklok.
so they've got their shitty original manager (the one from doomstar) still, and he's just not pulling his weight. he's managing a few other bands and his heart isn't in dethklok the way it used to be. pickles is worried they're stagnating, and when he learns that it's been magnus lately making sure they get booked, that's the last straw. they all come together, and they tell the dude to fuck off. but then this leaves them without a manager. magnus offers, but pickles has already been wary about how possessive magnus seems about the band recently, so when pickles says no the rest of them vote the same.
pickles blows through his old contacts looking to dig up some manager from his past who can either wants to manage dethklok or has connections to someone else. no dice. skwisgaar comes up with no one. magnus is still trying to campaign for himself. shit gets dire when somehow seth finds out dethklok is lacking management and leaves pickles a voicemail offering his "valuable fuckin' services". pickles blows his fucking top, swearing and screaming. "HOW HARD IS IT TO FIND ONE GUY CAPABLE OF MANAGING A FUCKIN' BAND??"
the doorbell rings, and pickles, still raging, throws it open.
"WHAT??"
"ahh!"
it's just... a dude. like a normal-ass dude. glasses. a nice dress shirt and slacks. nice hair. handsome. he's nervous as shit, but that almost makes him more handsome.
"i, ah...i-i was told that van on the street belongs to, ah...to someone here? i clipped the, ah, the bumper. just a little. but it's noticeable."
anger forgotten, pickles just... stares at him. are his eyes green or brown? and that jawline...
the man shifts his weight just a bit, peeking into the apartment with wide, curious eyes. "sorry, that, ah... that's quite the drum kit."
"huh?" pickles looks back at it and steps inside, and the man follows as if he's simply meant to be there. "oh, yeah, thanks. you play?"
"hardly. a small jazz kit in college for a friend's music project but it, ah, obviously didn't go anywhere." the man glances around and seems to realize that he's just waltzed inside. "right, ah, so about the van--" he pulls out his card. charles f. offdensen of finch & associates. an honest-to-god lawyer. huh. so he's a smart guy. good-looking to boot. knows a bit about music, apparently. and he's looking to make things right about hitting the van...
pickles smiles, hearts in his eyes. "ya like metal, charlie?"
F for "Fake Dating" - Melmord/Twinkletits
aaahahah... okay. so, this would be when melm is living with john as part of his continued therapy. a few months pass, and they've actually become good friends, melm thinks, not just therapist and patient. it's nice living there with john.
and then, john gets a call from his ex-wife, joy. she's in town, and she wants to come over for dinner one night before she leaves. the only thing is, she's got her new fiance in tow. she and john ended on pretty mutual terms, so there's really no bitterness there, but even so, john knows it's going to be an unpleasant evening. and then there's the question of what to do about melmord.
"you can just stuff me in a back room and pretend i don't exist. i'll be real quiet."
"absolutely not, you've been watching too many sitcoms."
"excuse you, that's jane eyre."
john just doesn't exactly know how to approach explaining melmord's presence in the house. because he knows joy, and joy will ask.
"tell her i'm a friend who needed a place to crash?"
"joy knows i don't do friends anymore."
ouch go melm's feelings.
"well, uh... you could just tell her the truth? that i'm your patient and i live with you?"
john pulls a face. "absolutely not."
in a flash of sitcom inspiration, melm snaps his fingers. "i got it! i'm your boyfriend! we'll pretend to date!"
"pretend to--?? mel, honey, no. okay? i understand you're trying to help, but--"
"but what? what's your brilliant idea, doc?"
cut to john introducing melmord to his ex-wife.
"and this is my... well, he's uh, my boyfriend actually. my boyfriend melmord."
melm is all smiles as he leans in and takes joy's hand. "please, just call me mel."
and then of course at the end of a long night, joy and her fiance leave, and john and melm pat each other on the back for a job well done. they really gave it their all, put on a convincing performance full of long embraces and doting glances and romantic touches. neither of them really want to talk about how easily it came to them, and how unwilling they both are to bring it to an end.
"well, uhh... good night, then." john chuckles. "darling."
"yeah, haha, sleep good, uh... sugarbear."
they laugh. they're standing in the hall laughing. they should really move apart from each other and go to their respective rooms if they're going to sleep, but they're not moving. and they're still laughing. and now melmord is touching john's shirt, fingering a button, and john has a hand on melm's hip...
"maybe," melm says quietly, "we can just pretend for, like... a little longer?"
15 for Abby/Luka
For reasons ;)
Under a cut because it's long.
July 2003
To: Luka Kovac <“[email protected]”>
From: Abby Lockhart <“[email protected]”>
Subject: I’m drowning and praying ghosts are real
Dear Luka,
Something about knowing that I’ll never talk to you again is just unbearable. I’ll never laugh at your malapropisms, look into your beautiful eyes, feel your strong hands holding mine, or make love to you again. There won’t be any more jokes about jam and cheese on toast, or you teasing me for my weak but constant supply of coffee. I’ll never hear your amazing, deranged laughter after you prank someone again. No more of your hugs—which are somehow the best hugs in the world. Because you’re gone.
It’s been three days since we got the call telling us you died thousands of miles from home, whether that’s here in Chicago or in Croatia. I didn’t know your dad’s name, Luka. We needed to call him, and I didn’t know. How did I not know? And now I can’t. I mean, L’Alliance told us his name, but the fact that I’ll never learn pieces of your history, of the wonderful man you are, FROM you...how am I supposed to go on and live my life?
For years, I’ve thought medicine was my great thwarted love. I’ve wanted to be a doctor for so long, and I thought I was bitter about having to let go of that dream. Now I wonder. I let obstacles get in the way of pursuing medicine, and it’s made me...well, it’s part of why I was so unhappy. But that makes me think about how I also let obstacles get in the way of us. I was happy with you, you know, until I let fear and my mother and Carter get in the way. God, I wish I could do that over again. We could have had everything, and if I hadn’t gotten in my own way, I’d be happy. I think maybe I could have made you happy, too.
It’s funny. I knew things with Carter weren’t working, and he implied you were part of it. I said it wasn’t, but then five minutes later, I found out you were—are—dead. And I realized you were the reason, or one of the big ones. As soon as Chuny told me, I knew I loved you and had loved you for years. Yeah. Great timing, isn’t it? I keep thinking that maybe I could have kept you from going if I had known or if I had told you. I didn’t want you to go when I thought you were my very attractive friend and ex that I still was fond of. Knowing that I love you—how do I move past that? Knowing that I lost you, first to my stupidity and then to death?
I just...I miss you, and I don’t when I’ll stop, or how to. Susan caught me crying on my last shift, and I didn’t even know what to say. I feel like I’ve been crying or standing still, brittle and stuck in time, since I heard the news. I can’t, Luka. I know I have to keep on moving, and I thought maybe writing you would help. I know you’ll never see this, never have a chance to respond. But the idea that some fragments of your soul linger and can maybe sense...I don’t know. That I’m writing? What I’m feeling? Jesus, this is crazy.
All my love,
Abby
Abby angrily swipes the tears from her eyes. God, what’s the point of writing this? He’ll never see hsi email or her again. Just...without Luka, how can the world be anything but grim and sad and pointless?
She laughs mirthlessly. Maybe it doesn’t matter. No, she knows it doesn’t. Because Abby knows the futility of it, aches with the meaninglessness, she presses send without another thought.
&&&
Three days after that, a miracle occurs. Luka, the Lazarus of this new millennium, comes back from the dead. He’s never been dead, and maybe, Abby thinks, there’s a God above after all. So many people wish for this exact boon, and she—they, the world—gets it. Some higher power believes this planet is a better place with Luka Kovac in it, and Abby is ecstatic.
Until she remembers the email and that they can’t be unsent.
It’s fine. She’ll be fine. Luka is coming back, apparently with a French nurse. Maybe he’ll just delete it without reading it. Maybe it didn’t go through—how does email work for the dead, and how quickly is all that processed?
Abby shakes her head. It doesn’t matter; Luka is alive and returning to them. She can handle a little awkwardness in the face of the sheer joy of knowing the world is a brighter, kinder place. He’s coming back, and that’s what’s important.
&&&
August 2003
It takes Luka almost a week after returning to Chicago to convince Kerry and the other staff to let him go back to his apartment. Even so, they only agree when Gillian assures them she’ll see to his every need.
Abby winces when she hears that, and it makes something flutter in Luka’s chest. Which probably isn’t good for his malaria, but the hope...that is.
It’s another two days of lying in bed before he has the energy to ask Gillian to bring him his laptop. At this point, it’s been months since he’s checked his email, and Luka grimaces at the undoubtedly horrible state of his inbox. He briefly considers never checking again and just getting a new one, but he knows his father struggled to add him to his contacts once already. To expect it of him again would be absurd.
With a sigh, Luka opens his email. It’s just as bad as he feared. He snorts at the myriad messages about Viagra, Nigerian princes, and Russian brides, deleting them without thought. He saves a couple from his dad. He slowly whittles down his inbox, but he freezes when he gets to one email in particular, sent about a month ago.
It’s from Abby, during the time everyone thought he was dead.
Luka considers calling and asking her if someone hacked her email or is sending spam from her account, but the subject line...it looks real. And Abby’s been odd around him lately, seeming both deliriously happy to see him and awkwardly nervous.
His heart pounds, and he clicks to open it. If this is a spammer, they’re probably about to get whatever they want.
&&&
Abby pours herself another coffee, internally swearing as she prepares for the last two hours of her shift. Deciding to go back to school is great; having to coordinate all the details is less thrilling and leaves her tired and cranky.
Frank ducks his head into the lounge, beady eyes narrowing on her. “Hey, Abby. The Croat is on the phone for you. Line 2. Try to get back out there as fast as you can, Weaver’s yelling at the med students about IVs.”
“Okay, Frank,” Abby says, though she flushes and her palms start to sweat. It’s fine. She can always hide the panic and butterflies in her stomach with sarcasm. It has yet to fail her.
Frank gives her one last suspicious look, then nods and heads back to Admit.
Abby takes a deep breath, then picks up the phone. “Hey, Luka?”
“It’s me. Glad I could reach you. How are you?” He sounds...ugh. So good. And eager and happy, and her heart could leap right out of her chest.
“Doing all right. I just have a couple hours left on this shift, and it hasn’t been too awful today. Only one MVA. How about you? You feeling okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine. Recovering. Listen, did you want to come over for dinner?”
“Please tell me you’re not trying to cook.”
“What? I’m a good cook, even if you don’t appreciate wonderful, traditional Croatian dishes,” he says with a chuckle.
“Luka, you just got out of the hospital five days ago. You still need to be resting.”
“Abby, don’t worry so much. I was just kidding. I have some sandwiches from Manny’s, and Anna sent me home with lots of matzo ball soup too.”
Abby bites her lip. Of course she wants to go. But the prospect of spending the evening with Gillian cooing over Luka, knowing that she shares a bed with him, is decidedly less appealing. And there’s the email she sent, which Luka hasn’t acknowledged. He might well have deleted it, or he’s giving her a gracious out.
Her conscience twinges as soon as she thinks about bailing, though. Didn’t she promise herself she wouldn’t take life for granted anymore? She’ll go back to med school, she’ll have dinner with Luka when he asks.
“Abby?”
She starts, realizing she needs to respond. “Yeah, sorry. Yeah, I can do that. I can be there an hour after my shift, if that’s okay.”
“Sounds great. Looking forward to seeing you.”
“Me too.” He has no idea how much, even if she wishes she knew for sure that he’d deleted the email.
&&&
Abby rings Luka’s doorbell three and a half hours later. She’d meant to come straight from work, but after a patient vomited on her, she decided to head home, shower, and splurge on a taxi to Luka’s. The poor man is recovering from being deathly ill and doesn’t need County’s fumes making things worse.
There’s the sound of the deadbolt sliding, and Luka answers the door, grinning happily at her. “Good, you made it! Come on in!”
“I did. Sorry it took me longer than expected.” Abby steps into his apartment, looking around. It’s been such a long time since she’s been here, and she notes the subtle changes in the art and decor.
“No worries. I know how it goes.” He places a hand at the small of her back, guiding her inside.
Abby stiffens for a second at how his touch burns even through the layers of her shirt and light jacket, but she relaxes, enjoying the feel while she waits for Gillian to appear and end the fleeting joy.
Luka is unfazed. “Now, of course we can just eat the sandwiches, but if you want to heat up the matzo ball soup, you can. Since you don’t want me standing,” he says with a wink.
Abby smiles back, shaking her head. “Oh, I see how it is. Make the woman who worked all day do more household work when she gets ho—wait, where’s Gillian? Isn’t she supposed to be taking care of you?”
“She’s not here,” he says simply.
Going to the fridge and taking out the containers of soup, Abby places them in the microwave. Is Gillian out for the evening, or is she gone gone? “Shouldn’t you be with her? Or her here with you, whatever.”
Luka is quiet for a long minute, and Abby wonders if he intends to answer. Finally, he breaks the silence. “I asked her to leave.”
Abby’s pulse speeds up. “What? Why?”
Luka takes a deep breath, clearly ready to respond, and—
The microwave dings, and they both jump. Exchanging a sheepish look, they laugh.
“Look, let’s get some food, and I’ll tell you all about it.”
Abby dishes up their soup and sandwiches, preparing trays so they can sit on the couch. Luka turns on the television, and Abby’s heart rate comes back under control. They sit together in companionable silence while they eat and watch Thom and Jai and the rest of the Fab 5 whip some hapless lawyer’s life into order. When they finish their meal, Abby cleans up, taking the trays back to the kitchen.
She heads back to the couch at the opposite end from Luka, not daring to get closer when she really has no idea what’s going on.
Luka clears his throat and mutes the TV. “So, yeah. I asked Gillian to leave.”
“Oh. So, um, did you break up?”
“She was never my girlfriend, really. She has a boyfriend back in Montreal, they just…” Luka shrugs and runs a hand through his hair.
Abby is more lost than ever. “Ah.”
Taking a deep breath, Luka continues, finally looking over at her. “Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful she helped me get here and took care of me, but we were never serious.”
Something starts to tug at Abby’s heart, squeezing and twisting and kicking to get free. Is it...hope? “Well, I’m glad she got you here safe, but you should have someone staying with you while you recover, Luka. Malaria is dangerous.”
He gives her a look. “I know how dangerous malaria is. I’m getting better. And besides, it wouldn’t have been fair for me to ask her to stay when things are over because I’m in love with someone else.”
Her heart leaps into her throat. “Someone else?” she squeaks.
Luka nods, swallowing. “Yeah. And I have a reason to think she might be in love with me too.” He slides over to her side of the couch, reaching for her hand.
Abby meets his eyes—those beautiful green eyes that are the best color in the world—and squeezes his hand, incapable of words. Does he mean…?
With his other hand, Luka reaches up and cups her cheek, running his thumb along the subtle arch of her cheekbone. “Abby, if you’ve changed your mind since you sent that email, please tell me to shut up.”
That stupid, ridiculous email might be the best thing she’s ever done in her life. She leans into his hand, licking her lips as she shakes her head slightly. “I haven’t changed my mind. I didn’t mean for you to see it and hoped I could learn how to hack computers and delete it but—”
Luka cuts her off. “I would never forgive you if you managed to delete it. You wouldn’t believe how much faster I healed after that.”
Abby leans forward, sliding into Luka’s waiting arms. “Then maybe I’ll write you some more emails.”
“Emails aren’t what I want right now,” Luka says.
Funny, Abby doesn’t either. Then his lips brush hers, and all her worries and fears fade away. She knows she has to tell him about med school and he needs to finish recuperating, but when Luka deepens their kiss and pulls her closer, Abby ceases to think at all.
She has Luka back, and now they have each other again.
New Jersey Dog Sanctuary
Summary: Meet cute! Bucky is told he needs to get a dog and so goes with Sam to the shelter where he meets someone he wasn’t expecting. (It’s not overly romantic, mostly just wholesome Bucky but if I write a part 2 things will heat up a little!)
Words: 1704
Author’s Note: Hi guys! I’m so sorry I’ve been MIA for so long, but hopefully this will be the beginning of me posting more regularly again! I’ve actually really missed writing fanfic but I’ve been taking the time to work on some original bits too so maybe they’ll make their appearance on here some time in the future. For now, enjoy some soft Bucky fluff and make sure to keep sending me any requests (particularly Marvel stuff because I am riding a WandaVision marvel high at the moment!) Sending all the love- Abby x
Masterlist
_________
“C’mon Sam you know that this is more hassle than we need right now.” Bucky sighed. The sign above them read ‘New Jersey Dog Sanctuary’ in large green letters, punctuated with a paw print on either side. The glass door opened up to a lobby lined with sofas covered in dog hair. On one sat a kid, clutching a small scruffy terrier to his chest like his life depended on it. Bucky shook his head.
“Look, Buck the therapist said you needed a dog, so we’re getting you a dog,” Sam gave him a sharp look, staring at him. Bucky met his gaze. A staring contest. He knew the stakes without having to say a word. If he won, he wouldn’t have to  go in, but if he blinked he’d be stuck with some dog he’d be forced to take with him on missions, getting in the way and making him trip up. Sam’s eyes did not move, but his hands clapped, making Bucky flinch, and worse, blink.
“Cheater.”
“That’s just another word for winner, Barnes,” Sam winked, gesturing to the door. “After you.”
The sound of barking and the smell of fur hit the moment they walked into the place. There was a girl sitting behind the counter, her hair pulled back but strands still falling on her face as she frantically answered the phone and tried to pull something up on her laptop. She smiled at Sam and Bucky and held up a finger, pleading with her eyes.
“What do you think of that one?” Sam said, pulling Bucky’s attention and pointing to a spaniel in the corner on a pink leash. Bucky shook his head and pulled a face. “Okay, something bigger?” Bucky sighed again, and nodded. “What about that one?” Sam pointed to a dalmatian who was jumping up at one of the workers. One he looked past the dog, Bucky realised that the girl was kinda pretty, smiling at the dog and letting it lick her face affectionately, half-laughing at something one of her co-workers had said to her.
When Bucky once again shook his head, Sam gave up. The receptionist gave a cough behind them.
“Did y’all make an appointment?” She asked, her fingers poised and ready to type.
“It’ll be under Barnes,” Sam answered for Bucky. “We’re looking for a big dog and I looked on the website and-”
“Alright,” the receptionist interrupted, “if you take a seat on the couch over that way I’ll have someone be over with you soon.”
“You looked on the website?” Bucky asked as they turned away and made their way over to the couch. “Is this dog for you or for me?”
Sam punched his good arm and Bucky rolled his eyes, scanning the couch to find a surface not covered with hair to sit on, unsuccessfully. The whole thing was covered with different coloured fur, creating a strange montage of white, black and brown shades on the bright green of the couch. Sam slumped down in the chair and Bucky took his chance to take a glance back at where the girl with the Dalmatian had been a minute earlier, but she was gone.
“Hi there!” Bucky turned to see her standing there. The Dalmatian was gone from her side, but she was still brushing her front to try and rid herself of the lingering fur. She smiled brightly, her eyes crinkling as she looked between Bucky and Sam. “Take a seat. My name is Y/N and I’ll be helping you out with finding a dog here today.” She took a seat and pulled a notepad onto her lap. Bucky sat down, feeling Sam’s smug eyes on him but desperately trying to ignore him.
“It’s nice to meet you, Y/N. I’m Sam and we’re here to look for a dog for grandpa Buck over here.” Sam smirked as Bucky shot him a death glare. She turned her attention to Bucky, kindness in her eyes as she looked him up and down.
“I’m guessing a big dog, right?” She asked.
“I guess, yeah,” Bucky said, folding his arms over his chest. “And not too young, we don’t really have time to train it properly.”
“Okay no problem,” she nodded, jotting some notes down, “any other preferences?”
“It’s a therapy dog,” Sam said, “so-”
“Sam!”
“No it’s okay,” the girl said, stopping the argument before it could begin, “we actually don’t have any licensed dogs here on site but if it’s just for companionship and comfort then there shouldn’t be any issues.”
Bucky nodded solemnly. It had been a kick in the teeth when the therapist Sam had forced him to go to had told him that he would need an animal. He’d survived for so long on his own, it felt almost strange to even be with Sam so often. Having to rely on an animal felt like he was losing independence. When he’d told his therapist that she had tried to convince him that having a dog would actually help with his independence, but he wasn’t buying it.
“Okay,” the girl said, interrupting Bucky’s train of thought, “I’m gonna go and take this list and see if there’s anyone who I think would be a good match for you.” She hesitated for a second, clearly wanting to say something more before deciding against it and turning to go back to her office.
There was a beat of silence after she left before Sam pounced.
“She’s...nice.”
“I guess.”
“You like her.” Sam said, unable to stop himself. “She’s cute Barnes, give her your number.”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Because I said so,” he shook his head. She was too normal, too sweet. He was screwed in the head and she wouldn’t be able to handle it. It was pointless. It was dumb. She probably wasn’t interested.
“She thought you were cute too, y’know.” Sam sighed, picking up a brochure and beginning to browse, one eye remaining on Bucky as he raised his eyebrow, considering before shaking his head.
The girl rounded the corner once again, a file in hand and a nervous smile playing on her lips. Bucky tried to match her smile, feign some excitement for her sake at least, but it came out more like a grimace and he decided it best just not to make eye contact and let Sam do the talking.
“Alright, I have a dog that might be good for you,” she started gently, “he’s a two year old Husky named Loki and he’s honestly such a sweetheart.”
“Loki?” Bucky asked, his brows furrowing.
“I know, I know, but you can rename him in time and he’s not at all mischievous.” She handed over the file to Bucky. The photo of Loki, all grey and white fur, stared up at him with icy blue eyes. It was a nice looking dog. His previous owners had moved to Europe and couldn’t take him with them so they’d bought him into the shelter just a couple of weeks before.
He could feel her watching him, leaning forward and trying to hide the way she was nervously picking at her fingers as he examined the sheet. Sam’s eyes were on him too, but he didn’t care much what he thought.
“Okay,” he huffed, noting the glint in her eyes as she leaned in towards him, “let’s meet him and see what the deal is.”
She suppressed a squeal and told Bucky and Sam to head down the path towards the meeting area, a closed off space behind the park-like yard that had toys and treats already waiting for them. They stood and waited, the crisp fall sunshine keeping them from getting too cold.
She knocked before leading Loki into meet them. The dog locked eyes with Bucky, almost pulling her over as he tried to go and meet him.
“He likes people!” She chuckled, closing the door and letting him off the leash so he could bound over.
Immediately, the dog nuzzled his head into Bucky’s lap, nudging his head under his metal arm to be pet. Bucky obliged, feeling the dog’s soft fur run through his fingers, privately annoyed at how he knew straight away that his therapist had been right. He looked over to Sam who nodded approvingly, before meeting her eyes. They shone with unshed tears as she smiled at the pair of them.
“I’ll go out and let you guys get acquainted-”
“No!” Bucky interrupted her, “I mean, he’s obviously comfortable with you here so you really don’t need to. And, y’know,” he cleared his throat, “I, uh… I’m more comfortable with you sticking around for a little bit.”
A slow grin spread over her face as she joined Bucky and Loki on the floor. Sam stood back, sneakily taking a photo on his phone which he threatened to send to Fury. A long forgotten feeling washed over him. It wasn’t quite happiness, but there was a kind of joy in it, in knowing that there was going to be someone there who needed him that wasn’t an annoying bird-man. Contentment. He was content in this moment, this small world. A pretty girl smiling at him, a dog on his lap. The life he could have had if he hadn’t been drafted.
“So… what do you think?” She asked him. Loki was lying at his feet, a ball between his paws. She sat beside him, close enough that he could smell the faint traces of her perfume.
“You said he’d be okay to come on a mission, right?” Bucky asked.
“I’d avoid anything with too many loud noises… but if he was kept somewhere safe he’d be okay to travel.” She shrugged. She leaned forward to put Loki’s leash back on, but her hand brushed his and Bucky felt a shower of goosebumps cover his skin. He turned away, feeling his face flush, only to see Sam’s smug face.
ASK HER OUT he mouthed. Bucky shook his head. IF YOU DON’T I WILL. Bucky glared at him before turning back to her.
“If you wanna talk, by the way,” she pulled out Loki’s file and scribbled something down, “here’s my number.” She didn’t meet his gaze, but smiled a little, her fingers messing with Loki’s fur. “Y’know, about dog stuff.”
“I’ll call you,” Bucky replied a little too quickly, “about… dog stuff.”
“I’ll make sure of it,” Sam nudged him. She blushed a little and nodded, handing Loki’s leash over to Bucky, letting his hand linger before leading them back.
Bucky looked up at the sky over the dog park, feeling hope fill his chest for the first time in a long time.
Of Changes and Revelations
I got this idea from the other Marvel and TVD crossover that I did, it is going to be (hopefully) very different. I hope it comes out well and that I do it justice... I’m already working on a second part, I felt that this was getting a little to long! Please let me know what you think and if there are any grammar/spelling/punctuation things that need fixing. Constructive criticism is always welcome. This took me forever, there were so many roadblocks and questioning myself on if I actually wanted to write this. Thanks to my sister pushing me and my imagination running wild with promises of what I can do in the future with this... I decided to go through with it... so enjoy!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
After it’s all said it done; after Esther failing in killing her children, Bonnie’s mother being turned to break the link, Abby bailing (again), Klaus forcing Bonnie to break the spell Esther did... The expulsion of magic that resulted inadvertently saved Finn’s life, knocking out the scooby gang in the process (including most everyone in the town). While also setting fire to anything flammable within the radius of the town (leaving only a select few homes and buildings untouched). It’s safe to say all the white oak is gone... along with multiple buildings.... (oops?) The poor trees are all fried, though luckily they have strong bark, so they’ll survive (it also helps that Bonnie helped to heal them).
All of it coalesces and brings Bonnie to locking herself up in her grams house for as long as she pleases with no acknowledgement of the outside world. She had methodically gone through the house and unplugged the internet, tv’s, shut down her phone, and all other electronics. She just wants to be left alone, Bonnie is exhausted; she’s tired of being used, abused, and taken for granted.
She had found a boundary spell in one of the grimoires to keep those with ill or selfish intent off her property and the fu- away from her (especially certain vampires). In the middle of the week Bonnie left her grams house and went to the school. At the beginning of the week she set up this time to test out of high school.
Bonnie made sure to blend in with the crowd to not be spotted by her “friends”; they may have not seen her, but she definitely saw them. She took the test within three and a half class periods and got the hell out of there. Bonnie drove away like a bat out of hell and made it back to her grams house as fast as she possibly could. She had completely moved into her grams house throughout the one after another of the supernatural shit show that she now calls her life (or rather did call her life). Not like her father was ever around for her to bother staying in his house.
The plus side of testing out of high school is that she can go and get whatever she needs without being worried about being ambushed by her “friends” or the Mikaelson's. Bonnie has also decided that she is going to take all the time that she needs to spend on self-love, working with her magic to learn, and embrace it joyfully. She also has been spending time in meditation and speaking with all of her ancestors. For once in her life, Bonnie Shelia Bennett has finally decided to be selfish and damn the consequences.
Little did she know that her new change would go right along with a huge change that will flip her world on its axis and bring up deeply buried memories.
————
Rudy Bennett knew that this day would come, he knew that eventually they would hunt him down. After all, he did abandon his post, he cut off all contact and went rogue. In doing so, also kept his child away from her culture and her people. He knows that if they find out about her and his lack of parenting, that would sign his fate.
Rudy couldn’t hide his shaking hands as he poured himself a drink and promptly chugged what was in his glass. He did decide that he wouldn’t run or hide, he was going to wait for them to come. He just got done pouring his second one when the lights flickered off; causing a shiver of fear to run down his spine, he could also feel sweat on the back of his neck.
When the lights flickered on, there were two Dora Milaje standing on the other side of his desk. Still as stone holding their vibranium spears, with the king and his cousin standing in between them. Both in different black panther suits (armor?), causing Rudy to gulp. Rudy could feel more sweat break out on his skin as he warily stared at his king.
“D’Kadi Dzube, you’ve been missing a long time.” Rudy or rather D’Kadi watched as both the men tapped on their collars and watched as the mask melted away and showed their faces. Rudy could hear his blood rushing to his ears as he felt himself pale a little. “You were once my father’s most trusted war dog. Then one day, you disappeared without a trace. Just a few months ago we found you... we also found some very interesting information. D’Kadi Dzube you have a daughter that you hid from your people. From my understanding you have been neglecting her as well.”
Rudy could hear ringing in his ears and the blood rushing through his body, he could imagine that he looked white as a sheet. Everything was blurring and before he knew it his eyes were rolling and he fell into darkness.
————
Bonnie could feel something coming to the depths of her bones, it would cause her to pause as her hair would stand up on its ends. Which would lead her to looking out the windows, but there was nothing there. It got to the point where Bonnie decided to add an extra warding to the house rather than the property. Evidently to keep anyone away from the structure of the home, while still being able to enter the yard (only if they pass the wards on the property that is).
Bonnie had started a cute little herbal and vegetable/fruit garden in her backyard, along with some landscaping spanning around the whole house. Along with flowers on both sides of the pathway walking up to the house. Bonnie has never before felt this free and happy. That doesn’t change the fact that she still feels a phantom twinge of pain when she thinks of how her friends haven’t even tried to come visit her. Not. A. Single. One.
Hell! Even Klaus showed up! Not that he could get on the property and it’s not like he was checking up on her... but still! Bonnie lets out an annoyed huff and shakes her head as she focuses back on her plants at the front of the house. She tries to work through her agitation; at her friends, the Mikaelson’s, the Salvatore’s, her parents, her grams for not teaching her from the beginning, at herself for not being smarter and wiser, and Bonnie might as well add the world to the list to.
She very quickly finds herself falling into a flow of taking care of the plants as everything washes away. Bonnie has found that in many instances doing something like this puts her in a meditative trance that helps to center her. Two hours pass with Bonnie working on her plants, when she hears a car drive up and park on the curb.
Bonnie allows herself to slow down in her landscaping work, but doesn’t turn around - even as she hears the car doors open and shut. She can also hear strangely accented voices talking, both male... but she can sense more people with them. Hearing them coming closer makes Bonnie glad that she chose to wear a wide brimmed straw hat that belonged to her grams (she’s rather not have people recognize her before she can tell whether or not they are threats).
“Excuse me? Are you the daughter of Rudy Bennett and Abby Bennett....” She freezes, but gives no answer. Bonnie can already feel her magic gathering, ready to motus the hell out of all of the people behind her. Receiving no answer, the people behind her exchange looks, “Granddaughter to Shelia Bennett?” Bonnie feels her agitation spike, causing her to rip off her dirty gardening gloves and throw them to the ground.
Bonnie turns around to look at them, noticing two men that look like cousins, two bald women that have what look to be tribal tattoos on their heads, and a random white man wearing clothing far heavy for how warm it is. Bonnie can practically feel her magic crackling at her fingertips and through her hair. “That depends on who is asking and why...?”
One of the cousins move to step forward, but upon seeing the look on her face, thinks better of it. Though, that didn’t stop him from kindly smiling at her, “My name is T’Challa, this is my cousin N’Jadaka, these two women are Okoye and Ayo, and this is James Barnes. I would like to speak to you about your father.”
Bonnie studies all of them and then flicks her eyes back to T’Challa, before she can respond with something biting, she hears whispers upon the wind. She allows herself to slightly tilt her head to listen better. After a few seconds Bonnie focuses back on T’Challa and the people he brought with him. “I’m not interested in talking about the sperm donor that calls himself my father. I could care less what type of underground cultish mafia he got himself into. If he owes you anything make Rudy deal with it, his problem’s aren’t mine to deal with.”
Bonnie quickly makes her way onto the porch of the house - without turning her back on them (she doesn’t have a death wish) - already knowing that whoever these people are, they aren’t going to let her off easily. N’Jadaka, the man with weird bumps all over his extremely musc- no! Bonnie quickly mentally shakes herself as he snickers with a smirk on his face. “I don’t think I have ever heard someone call people from Wakanda a cult or mafia. The little kitten does have a point cousin.” He runs his tongue over his teeth, “She should be wary, she knows nothing about her father’s history. “
“N’Jadaka...” T’Challa gives him a sharp warning look, not noticing Bonnie moving to open the front door to slip inside. “Where do you think you’re going kitten? We said we wanted to talk that’s what you’re going to let us do!” He moves to go onto the porch, but feels like he hit a brick wall, N’Jadaka also gets a nasty zap throughout his entire body. Causing him to hiss slightly in pain as the group takes notice of the wind picking up and hissing whispers upon the wind (not that they could make out what they were saying). They do notice how Bonnie seems to understand exactly what is being said upon her head whipping around to face the road. All of them watched as she ripped off her hat and lightly tossed it onto the porch swing, they heard the sharp angry hiss escape from her as her green eyes darkened.
The group from Wakanda evenly spaced themselves out as they turned upon hearing a car door slam, they all watch as a long blonde haired young woman walked around the car and onto the property. “Bonnie! Where have you been? We have all been trying to get a hold of you, you haven’t been at school, you haven’t been answering your phone or showing up to practice! We’ve been worried! Honestly Bonnie Bennett you better have a good reason for completely cutting all of us out of your life... who are these people?!” Bonnie stares at Caroline for a few seconds realizing that her chest no longer hurts when thinking of her ex-friends. In fact Bonnie realizes with sudden clarity that there isn’t pain when she thinks of her friends, only white hot fiery fury and looking at Caroline only makes her annoyance and fury rise at the audacity that she had to show up to her grams house unannounced at her house, at her sanctuary.
“Who they are is none of your business Caroline, in fact they were just leaving, like you will be. I’m not particularly in the mood to talk to people that ruined my perfectly peaceful day by arriving unannounced.” Turning her attention to the curious onlookers Bonnie continues “I don’t care to talk about Rudy and whatever shit show he’s gotten himself into,” looking to Caroline “and I don’t want to be forced to listen to lies! I’m well aware that none of you have noticed my absence up until a couple days ago. I’m also aware that none of you actually care for me, all of you just see me as some weapon to be used. Well I’m done being your sword and shield. I want all of you the hell off of my grams property. Do whatever you want with Rudy, it’s not my problem and I want nothing to do with it. Caroline you and the rest of those assholes can shove your lies and demands up your asses. I’m not going to be your quick fix to problems you brought on yourselves. Grow the fuck up and deal with them yourself! Now get the fuck off of my property!”
The front door slams viciously behind Bonnie, whose screaming voice still echoed in the air with whispers following it, the group from Wakanda all had their eyebrows almost to their hairlines. While Caroline’s jaw was dropped almost to the ground in shock and hurt. “You should leave Care-o-line, you’re no friend of hers.” N’Jadaka’s voice quickly pulls her out of it and brings up her misplaced righteous fury. “Oh, really, I am her friend. Who the hell are you? From the way it was looking none of you are friends of Bonnie’s! I’m her best friend!! You had to have done something to upset her, she would have never said something like that or treated me that way! All of you are the ones who should leave!”
N’Jadaka moves to step forward, but James puts his hidden vibranium arm in front of him and says only one thing in a harsh warning tone. “Erik...” Causing Erik to suck on his teeth for a second then back down. While T’Challa steps forward with his hands up in the universal sign of peace. “Miss...” Caroline huffs out her answer to his silent question, “Caroline Forbes!” He immediately gives a soft smile, “Miss Forbes, I believe all of us need to leave Bonnie alone for the time being. If it makes you feel better we will get into our car first, but we will only be leaving after you drive away. She is important to our people and I will not risk something happening.” Caroline works her jaw as the gogs in her brain slowly turn, her eyes sharpen for a few seconds, but she quickly gives in and slowly, dejectedly nods.
None of them notice the whispers on the wind that one small young Bennett witch listens too as they all drive away, with a contemplating look in her eyes.
————
The next day has Bonnie working in the backyard harvesting the herbs, vegetables, and fruits that she needs. Bonnie gives absolutely no reaction to N’Jadaka’s presence as he walks around the back of the house. “You know it’s seen as extremely rude to not only invite yourself to someone’s house, especially not knocking on the front door.” She has to hide her slight smile upon hearing him huff out a laugh, “I’d love to knock on your front door kitten, the only problem is... I couldn’t seem to get on the first step.” Bonnie can sense the question in his words, but chooses to ignore it and continue her work. She can feel him watching her and gets quickly fed up witch a harsh huff Bonnie stops what she is doing, stands up, and turns to face him.
She has to give herself a few seconds to get accustomed to the height difference between the two of them, to put it simply... he dwarfs her. Not only in height, but in sheer muscle mass, she averts her eyes to try and hide the affect he’s having on her. Bonnie decides to chalk it up to the fact that she hasn’t had any direct human contact for a while. “Look N’Jadaka...” “Erik” His interruption causes her to blink, “What?” Erik let’s out a quiet huff while a smirk plays along his lips. “My colonizer name kitten, is Erik. I’d rather go by it than N’Jadaka... has a lot more pride in it than my other name does.”
Bonnie quietly mouths colonizer with a confused look, but decides that they can come back to that later. “Fine! Erik... just...” Bonnie let’s out breath and frowns as her eyes play across the plains of his face and the outdoors. “I don’t know why... but my ancestors like you and they say that I can trust you. Now I’m going to do something that I never do... I’m going to trust my ancestors.” She allows herself to walk up to him and look him directly in the eyes “and if you ever... and I mean ever break that trust. I will personally find a way to kill you, slowly, painfully, and only when your begging for mercy will I kill you... got it?” While she was talking her finger was poking him in the chest to help emphasize her words with a sickly sweet smile upon her face.
Erik gives a slow smile knowing that he shouldn’t find himself turned on by her threat, but he is. He allows himself to carefully grab the hand she was poking him with and holds onto it. Erik chooses to ignore the quiet gasp that escapes her lips... for the moment “You got it kitten, would you like me to explain what you were very unwilling to talk about yesterday with my cousin?” He watches completely fascinated as her eyelashes shadow her eyes while she thinks it over, when she looks up and focuses back on him, she gives a hesitant nod. “Okay, but your helping me with my garden... if we have to talk about something that I would rather never have to think about again, your going to be useful and help.” Her words pull a sharp laugh out of Erik, as he grins and gives a nod in acceptance.
Once she quickly shows him what do to and what to look for, they start working. As they work he explains everything to her, everything hidden from her, everything that her father has done... everything. It completely shatters her, it obliterates everything she thought she knew about her father and his side of the family, everything she thought she knew and understood about herself; it sends her completely into orbit. She doesn’t even realize that she is crying, nor does she realize that she is raging at Erik and upon his body. Her fists swinging to hit his chest as her magic angrily swirls around them. Bonnie feels as though she is shattered into a trillion shimmering atoms being carried away upon the wind. She can’t tell if she will ever find herself... how can she? Bonnie doesn’t think that she can gather the exploded pieces... how can she find them? They have scattered to the wind getting caught in the trees, falling to the streams of water to be carried and caught elsewhere. Bonnie can’t even feel Erik tightly holding her as he somehow carries her inside of her grans house. And eventually, much later into the night, he helps to pull her back together, but for now. He try’s to help hold together what little is left of Bonnie Shelia Bennett.
As her true name echoes through her entire being...
Ahnika...
“Y/n is our girlfriend”
You turned your head to look at Cat. She looked at you with a smile then turned back to face Penelope. You bit your lip to keep back a squeal as Penelope moved to let you guys inside. Her intoxicated brain just needed a moment to process before she was pulling each one of you guys in for a warm hug, saying her congratulations and awes.
“Hey Pen could you give us a sec,” you said patting her shoulder.
She quickly nodded then turned around and started yelling at Luke to put down her unicorn mug.
“So girlfriend,” you said looking between them. They shared small smile and looked back at you. A glimmer in each one of your eyes.
“Sorry we couldn’t get the collar but I think the title should suffice don’t you think princess,” Spencer said jokingly.
You playfully punched his shoulder and scoffed. He grabbed his arm in fake hurt as you responded, “You are so funny Spence, I am splitting at the seams. But does this mean I get part ownership of the lounge?”
They laughed and Cat grabbed your shoulders leading you to the dinner table filled with drinks and snacks, “Ok lets not get ahead of ourselves angel. How about a compromise and we get you your very own chair in the office?”
You nodded with a laugh, “You drive a hard bargain, I’ll take it.”
“I’m so glad you’re not my lawyer,” you heard Spencer whisper.
Picking up one of the many decorated paper plates, you started adding on the many treats available. Cookies shaped like Christmas trees and little gingerbread people filled the platter.
Taking in her apartment you noticed it was very her. Walls full of art and trinkets places in little nooks. The she took a colorful take on the holidays with her rainbow Christmas tree that had a star bright enough to be seen from the ones above.
You looked over to her couches and saw a familiar head of hair.
“Abbie?!” you called out.
She gasped excitedly and walked over to you, wrapping her arms around your waist. She had on a pale blue dress that was low cut and showed off her cleavage nicely.
“Wait are you here with Luke?” you asked her.
“Uh huh, we’ve been seeing each other ever since that night we went to the club. He’s so sweet and god does he know how to fuck,” she said sighing dreamily. You let out a laugh and congratulated her.
“Who are you here with?” she asked.
“I am here with my now official partners,” you said sticking your thumb back to point at Cat and Spencer. Cat had her palm to her forehead as Spencer happened to drop the equally festive napkins all over the floor.
“So you guys are boyfriend, girlfriend, girlfriend?” she said taking a sip of her eggnog.
“Mhm,” you said with a grin.
“I’m glad you’re happy Y/n. You deserve it my love,” she leaned in before continuing, “But if they hurt you again I will not hesitate to kick both of them in the throat.”
“I wouldn’t expect anything less Abs, thank you. And the same goes for you. If Luke does anything stupid I’ll get his ass fired,” you said, knowing you had no authority over it.
You watched as she turned to walk back and Luke wrapped his arms around her. They giggled in a kiss then he turned giving you a killer smile and a wave. You waved back and sighed. Good for Abbie, you thought, she deserves someone like him.
The music playing got cut off and you heard Penelope clear her throat, “Alright now that we’re all here I have to make a toast.”
Spencer and Cat walked over to you with glasses of champagne. You took one in your hand and rested your head on her shoulder as Penelope continued her rambling.
“I have so much love for everyone here. Except you Luke, you have got to learn that I am the superior. But especially you chocolate thunder, I hope you stay the night,” she said with a wink.
“Love you babygirl,” you saw Derek say blowing her a kiss.
“Alright P, wrap this up,” the fit blonde from the bar said.
“Right sorry J, ok where was I? You guys are all so amazing and it makes me warm inside seeing your lovely faces all in one place. Thanks for being my family and bringing in new members. I love you, ok now have fun. Cheers!”
You all laughed and raised your glasses taking a sip of your drinks. The music turned back on and everyone went back to their conversations. Cat and Spencer introduced you to the rest of their ensemble of attractive co-workers.
The fit blonde, J, which you now found out is short for Jennifer. She was in a relationship with the other brunette Emily. You met Matt who used to work at the lounge as security but now retired to be at home with his wife and kids. Then Tara who happened to teach with Spencer. She had walked into the lounge one day and was pleasantly surprised to see the usually reserved professor tying a girl up.
That was a story you couldn’t wait to hear at the girls night which you had all planned.
As the night winded down those who had kids or significant others at home left. The few of you who stayed helped Penelope pick up some of the cups and plates that were littered over her living room. Once you were all cleaned up she wanted to keep the night going and insisted you all played a game of never have I ever.
You all settled around her kitchen counter and instead of consuming more alcohol you all decided to take bites from a cookie to signify you had done it.
“Ok I’ll go first, never have I ever gone skinny dipping,” she said with a giggle.
You, Abbie, Luke, Morgan, and Emily took a bite from your cookies. Cat and Spencer looked at you questioningly.
“Let’s just say I had a good time in college,” you said making everyone laugh.
Luke spoke up, “Never have I ever been dommed in front of others in the lounge,” he said with a smirk.
“You little shit,” you mumbled taking a bite from your cookie. Across from you Jennifer also took a bite, red in the cheeks. Emily proudly put her arm around the shorter blonde.
“Never have I ever had sex in a public setting,” Abbie said.
You saw Cat and Spencer take bites of their cookie. Your mouth dropped open as they tried to hide a smirk.
“Close your mouth angel, you’ll catch flies,” Cat said winking at you.
_
Once it reached 2 am the game was long over and you were ready to go home and face plant into the mattress. You looked over to Spencer who was talking to Derek . He looked down and put his arm around you, tucking you into his side. Derek smiled at the sight then motioned for Spencer to call him later as he walked over to Penelope.
“Ready to go home pretty girl,” Spencer asked quietly.
“Yes please,” you murmured. You could feel how heavy your eyelids were getting.
“Alright let’s get you some water. A car will be here in 10 minutes,” he said after a few clicks of his phone.
He pulled out a chair from the dining table and walked around the kitchen getting you a glass of water. He took a seat next to you and rubbed your thigh comfortingly. Across the room you made eye contact with Cat who was talking to Emily. She gave you a smile and mouthed ‘love you’ which you mouthed back.
Spencer cleared his throat, “She cares about you a lot and so do I. I’m sorry it took us so long to realize and make everything official. We really want to keep you around as long as you’ll have us,” he said softly.
You noticed the way he was able to express his emotions the best out of the two of them. Nonetheless the reassurance made your insides flutter.
You turned your body to face him. You pushed some of his curls behind his ear before you responded. “I know. I understand, it was probably hard to bring in someone else to your usual dynamic. I’m glad we’re starting this new chapter though. I love you guys more than you could imagine.”
He intertwined your hands and pressed a kiss to the back of it. The moment was broken by his phone chiming, signaling the car was outside, ready to take you three home.
He pulled you up by your hands. Cat noticed and made her way over to the both of you. You said your goodbyes to everyone and walked to the door. The chilly December air made your skin prickle. Once you got in the car you sighed at the warm heater blasting in the compact space.
Cat took both your hands in hers and rubbed them together bringing warmth to your cold digits. Spencer’s soft humming to a tune in his head helped lull you to sleep.
They shook you awake as the car stopped, helping you out of the car and the small walk up to their apartment. Once again you sighed at the familiar scent of their candles. Something you would never get tired of.
Cat helped wipe off your makeup as Spencer did his favorite task of dressing you in his clothes. He slid an old college sweatshirt over your head and kissed your hairline when he was done. The room was in a comforting silence, the small glances and eye contact was enough to convey the words and emotions filling your hearts.
When they were done taking care of you, you crawled up their bed and pushed away the extra decorative pillows. Snuggling into the now thicker comforter and waited your favorite people to join you.
You turned to face Cat and she happily laid in your arms. Taking in the scent of your coconut shampoo. Spencer’s arms were long enough to wrap the both of you in his loving embrace.
As the rhythm of your heart slowed down to an even beat, you still felt nothing but fondness in your soul.
Seth's Death
Hello!! Here are my headcanons about the upperclassmen (+ Abby and Wymack kinda) and Seth's death, I made myself very sad writing this, enjoy (: CW: death, swearing. Characters belong to the All For The Game series by Nora Sakavic
The only thing Seth and Matt really argued about was keeping the window in the bedroom open.
Seth was a Cold Person. He would fling the window open, let the fresh air and freezing temperature in, and pass out in a vest and boxer shorts.
Matt however, is a Warm Person. Almost every night, he would slam the window closed and argue that it was freezing.
“It’s mid-July, it’s fucking boiling.”
“It’s ANTARCTICA in here.”
The night Seth died, Matt only went back into his room once, for his pajamas. There was no way he was sleeping in there alone.
And the window was wide open. Seth, the bastard, had turned the entire room into the North Pole again, so it would be cold enough when we got back, drunk and exhausted, from clubbing.
But he never came back, he was never coming back, he was-
Dan found him a while later, head against the windowsill, taking deep breaths of cold, fresh air, fingers wrapped round the handles of the dresser that Seth stubbed his toe on so many times.
Matt left the window open after that.
He was used to the cold now anyway.
Danielle Wilds was the first female captain in NCAA exy and had put up with a lot of shit from her male teammates, including Seth Gordon.
Then, the new season started, Seth’s more toxic friends had left, and as he fell for Dan’s blonde-haired, high-heeled roommate, Dan was slowly learning to live with Seth’s existence- appreciated it even, especially after getting a blackout-drunk Allison home to her and Renee, respectfully and safely.
The first time Dan had been left alone with him, he was stood, maybe a little awkwardly, in the girl’s doorway as he waited to take Allison out.
“She doesn’t like flowers,” Dan said, pointedly.
“I know,” said Seth, annoyed. “They’re lilies. For her grandmother?”
Oh. Allison had been close with Nana Lily and her husband even through the drama with her parents, and had cried for days when she had died- a year ago, Dan realised.
More annoyed that Seth had remembered something that she hadn’t, Dan turned and left him alone.
From there, a strange friendship blossomed as Seth made himself comfortable with the team, eating dinner with them, taking Allison out to dates, and most importantly, actually listening to Dan when she gave him instructions- even when he and Allison were off.
The night he died, Dan flopped herself down at her desk as usual, to write a note in her journal. She wanted the normalcy to steady her, staying strong for her team, but then she remembered that it was Seth who bought her the planner.
He had picked one up for her at the grocery store the same day she lost her old one, and handed it to her with a borderline rude, “Captains should keep track of their things, Dan.”
Dan put her head in her hands and cried. She was going to miss that asshole.
Renee Walker mourned Seth’s death the only healthy way she knew- lighting a candle and praying.
She remembered the first time she met Seth, and had seen the hopelessness in him. She saw how he was waiting for another person to give up on him, but also saw how he clung to the foxhole court with a ferocity she could only respect.
That didn’t sit well with Renee at all, but she forced it aside as she and her roommates dealt with their teammates’ sexism and forged their own friendships.
She got her chance the same time Dan did, when Seth proved her theory right and stuck with the foxes, hanging around their dorm day after day, watching as she baked cookies and brownies and cupcakes.
“Where did you learn to bake?” he asked once, rude but making an effort.
“My foster mother taught me,” Renee replied, stirring blue food dye into icing for Matt’s birthday. “Do you know how?”
“Yeah,” said Seth, a little defensive still. “I used to make all sorts of shit with my brothers.”
“Have you ever made fruitcake?”
“Yeah.”
“Would you like to help?”
The next day, Seth showed up with a battered-looking notebook filled with children’s scraggly handwriting, and him and Renee happily went through it with him, deciphering recipes and making a mess.
She had burned with a quiet satisfaction at the time, thrilled to have an in with her sulkiest teammate.
That feeling was gone now. He had once said, jokingly, that if something happened to Seth, Renee could keep his recipe book.
She would keep the recipe book. She would use it as often as she could, her own tribute to yet another life taken so soon.
Wymack was Seth’s emergency contact, and if Seth was alive when he found that out, he might have been a little happy about it. He walked into the hospital, found Allison, and took her home. As tough as Wymack was, he didn’t want to see Seth. Not like that.
Seth acted like he hated everyone and everything at any given time, but his willingness to win, to make something out of what Wymack gave him, shone through in team meetings, when he argued, aggressively but thoroughly and sensibly, about plays, teammates, what to order for takeout and which opponent will be the hardest to take down.
He could have been something. He could have been something great, and Wymack had known it. He hoped that Seth had known it, too.
Abby was with Wymack, drinking wine and going through medical history paperwork, when he got the call. She cried right there and then, shocked at how easily she accepted it. She let Wymack go down there without her, and would have put the paperwork aside if she wasn’t looking at Seth’s history. She filled it out as neatly as she could, because what else could she do?
Then there was Allison. She was there, when paramedics rushed into the club bathroom and pulled him out on a stretcher, club staff staring impassively as Seth, her Seth, was pronounced dead on arrival.
She didn’t cry. She would cry later, when her whole body wasn’t numb from the shock, when she realised that she wasn’t too drunk, she wasn’t dreaming, and Seth really wasn’t waking up.
She would cry when she next saw lilies, or brownies with raisins mixed in, or the number six jersey left crumpled on her bed. And then she would pull herself together.
These memories would be painful for a long, long time. But at least this way, Allison would remember him.
