Can I say as someone who's a Pacific Islander, lived in Australia, Oceania my whole life, it's absolutely mind-bending how many Americans think that when it comes to english speaking countries it's only them and Europe.
Like the "oh sorry I don't use Celsius like you Europeans" stuff, you know everyone uses that right? Everyone? Absolutely everyone in the world except you?
When you talk about having a kettle as a standard kitchen item and some Americans are like that's SO british. It's not? It's all of us doing that?
I'm not making this to try and rag on Americans I promise, this isn't an 'all those Americans are ignorant and we're not' post, I'm just saying it's very baffling to be a person on the internet who speaks English and says they're not American, the FIRST response is "okay European."
???
The vibe is very 'Americans are the standard, Europe is the only other real place and then there's the east'😭
Like most of us are in the Commonwealth, measuring with kilometres, doing Eurovision. Americans are the outlier😭
I just can't impress upon you how many times I have discussed a thing that isn't a standard in the USA for an American to assume it's only a fringe European practice, we're ALL doing that man, all the rest of the world exists, it's such a gamble for you to assume I can only be in your country or Britian ☠️

I haven't enjoyed a Marvel movie since I stopped bothering to keep up with the MCU in 2014. I don't care for most Marvel movies. I think Marvel Studios is a case study in things that are shitty in the entertainment industry. But holy shit, pretentious posts along the lines of "haha, I don't watch Marvel films, I have real taste, go watch another movie!" are so fucking annoying.
Like, go put up your middle finger at some preps or something. People are allowed to watch whatever they want and enjoy whatever movies they want and make whatever fandom stuff they want, and that doesn't say anything about their intelligence or morals or character. It doesn't mean they are somehow bad at watching movies, or are too stupid to realize whatever nugget of wisdom ye high-and-mighty Marvel Haters think you're the only ones to understand.
Again, not personally a Marvel fan, but this whole "haha, I'm better than Marvel fans" relates to something I've been musing on about media analysis as a whole. There is a persistent idea that mass entertainment is inherently lower quality or less artistic because it's made for a wide audience, and that bad art isn't worth analyzing or engaging with just because it's low quality. In this mindset, the only art that has the possibility to be any good at all is 100% independent projects made by amateurs, and anything produced by a studio or with wide appeal is inherently poser art with absolutely nothing meaningful to say. In this mindset, you can't possibly learn anything or take anything from bad art, and if you find meaning in bad art, you're clearly just stupid and uneducated and have bad taste.
The thing is? Liking bad art is not a sin. Having a different opinion about what constitutes "bad art" is not a sin. Finding something entertaining despite its flaws is not a sin. Studying bad art is not a sin. You can learn a lot from bad art, you can learn a lot from interpreting propaganda, you can learn a lot from engaging with things even if you don't think they're very "good."
My vaudeville research keeps turning up author after author who talks about vaudeville as some sort of "point of no return," like the performing arts all turned to shit the second things were intended to be seen by more than a single audience for a single show. Popularity gets equated with lack of skill or quality, because all the performers were "just pandering to the audience" instead of relying on "real skill."
For one, what the fuck does that even mean, but for two, the theatrical quality of vaudeville isn't what makes it interesting and worth engaging with. Every single thing that ever came out of vaudeville could be 100% total utter garbage, but vaudeville would still be worth studying because of how influential it still is on arts and entertainment today. It has significant historical and educational merit. And some of it is still genuinely fun and entertaining, once you pick out all the things that didn't age well or were just plain bigoted. There's artistic merit in those old sketches and songs, and there's meaning to be drawn from plenty of it even here in 2023.
You want to learn about the Hays Code? Well, let's talk about how early films were shown on projectors on vaudeville stages, so vaudeville censorship went on to influence American film censorship. Let's talk about how we still use slang to this day that originated on vaudeville, such as "skit" or "one night stand" or "ad lib" or "the big time." Vaudeville is still in the bones of the modern American entertainment industry and pop culture, and you can't really escape that influence.
People in modern day use Marvel movies as proof that big studio films are singlehandedly responsible for the decline of art, and there is nothing to learn from them or see in them at all, ever. But to me, "Marvel movies are bad" is such a flat, uninteresting observation, because when it comes to media analysis, it doesn't really matter if Marvel films are good or entertaining. If you want to actually dig into the problems with big-budget summer Hollywood blockbusters, and the way they're impacting the industry as a whole, you have to go deeper than "pop culture is all stupid stuff for stupid people, unlike me, who isn't like other girls actually has good taste in media!"
There are so many more factors at play than "mass entertainment = bad art." Let's look at the ways capitalism screws over small creators and forces them to seek funding from the very same studios that fuck them over. Let's talk about how the actual workers in the industry are fighting tooth and fucking nail against the exact same things all the Marvel haters harp on about. Let's talk about studios that accept funding from the United States Government to turn superhero comics into propaganda films, and then threaten the actual workers with never having a career again if they complain or quit. Let's talk about how the actors are regularly abused and treated to hostile work environments.
Let's talk about the people who made the films, because the films were not made by a CEO pressing the "make movie" button. The workers made those films. The workers were exploited by those studios. Let's try giving a shit about them, instead of taking the "haha, Marvel fans are stupid and cringe" route.
There is so much more fucking nuance and detail and conversation about mass media as a topic, and boiling it down to, "art made for a wide audience is inherently shitty and has nothing to say."
You're not a better, more intelligent, more educated person just because you don't like Marvel movies. Making posts about how much better you are than Marvel fans does nothing to either explain or tackle the issues in the entertainment industry.
It just makes you look like a dickhead.

YR fanfic pet peeves (and corrections): latin america edition
so. i was originally going to post this in january as a kind of "new year, new opportunity to learn about simon's hispanic heritage" kind of a thing, but life got busy, and then my computer died and i lost my original list, so i've had to reconstruct this from memory as best as i could. there may be some stuff missing, so perhaps i'll just keep adding to this post as missing/new points come to mind.
disclaimer 1: if you've included any of the points made here on any fanfic of yours, please don't take this as a call-out. this isn't intended to shame anyone, but rather as an educational opportunity. it's very rare that a latin american nationality that is not mexican or colombian or puerto rican is showcased in an international show, especially outside of the US, and it's given me such joy to have all of you lovely folks make the effort to be open to and research and understand the idiosyncrasies of simon's (and omar's) heritage because the rest of latin america tends to go overlooked in most other fandoms. so i don't intend to scold anyone with this. we can't all know everything about every other culture-- lord knows i don't know everything about sweden, but i want to be respectful to the country and its people and that is why i heavily research anything i don't know and ask people who do know when my research doesn't quite cover it and am open to corrections when even that falls short. i expect most of you come to write about simon's family background in good faith and also want to be respectful to his family's culture, and so i thought i might make things a bit easier for you all by putting the most common errors/misunderstandings i've seen in one handy post. but once again, it's not a call-out, i don't get offended by these things, and i'm in no way implying, if you've done any of these things in fic or in life, that you are a bad person. i understand people make mistakes when they don't know things.
disclaimer 2: i am not venezuelan myself. i was born and raised in the same general region of latin america, though, and i have venezuelan friends and have worked with venezuelan people and have visited venezuela. generally speaking, i feel their culture is very similar to mine (though our spanish is much closer to spanglish than theirs is, haha xD) and feel a deep kinship with them. but of course, i'm no native, and if you're venezuelan and catch anything here that you feel is incorrect, feel free to point it out and i'll add a correction in your name.
warning: this is very long. christ almighty. DX if you can't make it to the end, tl;dr-- feel free to ask if you have any questions or if anything isn't clear. my ask box/messages are always open.
1- "mijo." this is the only one that legit has caused me to click out of several fics/chapters, at least in the beginning, but i've learned to grin and bear it by now. it's not so much that it's wrong, per se, but rather it's more of a location issue. "mijo" is, to my ears, very much a mexican (or, if you stretch it, northern triangle) slang. it IS used sparingly in other countries, but rarely used unironically. instead, if you hear the term used in the caribbean region of latin america (which my country is part of, as is a large part of venezuela), it's almost always used… let's say sarcastically. for example, if your grown-ass adult friend is being a dumbass and doing something reckless, you might call out "oiga, mijo, se va a romper el cuello" ("hey, mijo, you're going to break your neck"). basically, it's a way of calling someone immature like a child. it doesn't have to be ENTIRELY unaffectionate (kinda like the way someone might call their significant other "idiot" or "dummy" but mean it endearingly. in fact, in colombia it's way more common for spouses to call each other "mijo/a" than it is for them to call their children that), but you can also use it with complete strangers-- like if someone cuts sharply into your lane while you're driving, you might yell at them "oiga, mijo, a donde le enseñaron a manejar, en un potrero?!" ("hey, mijo, where did you learn how to drive, in a horse paddock?!"). but even in these sarcastic/neggy cases, it's rare. and EVEN RARER to hear a mother call her children "mijo" or "mija" in this region. it's just not a thing. so when i read it in fanfic, it immediately takes me out of the story because it's so weird to me that linda would sound mexican-- it's a very distinctive accent, which carmen gloria 1000000% does not have. (plus, "mijo" in spanish is a type of birdseed. so it gave me a chuckle the first few times i read it in a fic because i always have that brief second of confusion where i go "why is linda calling simon birdseed?" before it clicks. xD i'm a dork.) it's much more likely that linda would just say "hijo" or "mi hijo," instead.
1b- the way you decide on whether to use "hijo" or "mi hijo" is important because "mi hijo" can sound overly formal in the modern context especially, much like it would in english. in fact, you can use the english version of it, "son" vs "my son" to guide you on which of the two to use. like for example, if linda were to say directly to simon "i love you, my son," she would sound oddly old-timey and anachronistic, so you would just use "son" ("hijo") in that case. whereas if she's talking about simon with someone else, for example saying "i told my son to be here on time," you'd be perfectly okay to use "mi hijo" in that sentence in spanish. it's very transferable in that case.
2- speaking of non-transferable, though, you can't use "cariño" in all instances you would use "sweetheart" or "sweetie." it really depends on the grammatical construction, and it can be tricky to get it right, but it depends on whether you're using it as a direct address or as an object. for example, if you're using it in place of someone's name-- say, a mother telling her child "te quiero, cariño" ("i love you, sweetheart/sweetie") is perfectly fine, because in that case, she could also say "te quiero, hijo" ("i love you, son") or "te quiero, simon" ("i love you, simon"). but if, say, simon says to wille "you're my sweetheart," you would not use "cariño" there; you'd go instead with some syrupy way to say "boyfriend," like "eres mi novio" or "eres mi enamorado" or even "eres mi amor," and if sara tells felice "you're a sweetheart," that would also not involve "cariño" at all. in addition, "cariño" is also very rarely used in plural; if linda is using a term of endearment for both her kids, or for a group of teens her kids' age, she would use a different term of endearment altogether: "hola, mis amores" ("hi, my loves"), "hola, bebés" ("hi, babies") or "hola, mis tesoros" ("hi, my treasures") among some examples. one exception is when you say "cariños míos" ("my sweethearts"), but very rarely the plural by itself. in fact, "cariño" is often slang for gift or present, especially in the diminutive-- for example, if you go to someone's celebratory party for some occassion (birthdays, graduations, baby showers, heck even christmas), you might hand them a small gift and go "te traje un cariñito" ("i brought you a small present"), and if it's more than one gift, or you're bringing gifts for several people, then you'd say "unos cariños" or "unos cariñitos" in the plural.
3- simon's skin is tan, not tanned. this… doesn't personally bug me as much because it's more of an english grammar issue, but i know people who might actually feel very offended if you get this one wrong with respect to them. "tan" is a color; a light shade of brown. "tanned" implies the original color of your skin has darkened with the sun. now, i'm sure simon can tan (lucky goat, says she whose skin burns even while indoors), but about 95% of the time "tanned" is used in YR fanfiction, it's used as a descriptor of the color of simon's skin as we see it on the show. that would imply his skin used to be lighter at some indeterminate before-time and has been darkened by the sun. this is incorrect; that is the natural color of simon's skin. so stick to "tan skin" instead (not tan PERSON, mind you. his SKIN is tan, he is not). and i would gently suggest that if you take away any single thing from this post, make it ESPECIALLY this point, as someone more sensitive than me might interpret this error as some kind of retroactive whitewashing. and i don't want anyone here to get in trouble for simply not knowing.
4- pabellón criollo is one dish, yes, but it's four different FOODS. it's not something a newbie would be able to make off of a recipe (i don't know how to make it and i've been eating it all my life), and it's not something that's likely to be taught in just one day. also, if you're bringing it to a dinner or a potluck, you're bringing four separate food containers, not just one.
4b- also, venezuelan food, for the most part, is not particularly spicy. you CAN make it spicy if you want, but traditionally, it is not. it's flavorful, maybe even saucy depending on the dish, but rarely spicy. i know the joke of white people being unable to handle spice is funny, but there's also plenty of us hispanic people who are equally terrible at it, because there's different levels of spice in the food from different regions of latin america. besides, as a friend of mine perfectly put: we are living in the 21st century now. if you can eat mild mexican food, you should be able to handle traditional venezuelan food just fine. and i'm pretty sure there's mexican food in sweden. plus, wille would probably be more used to international food-- not only does he have the means, but having traditional meals in foreign countries is kind of part of the job.
5- while i'm at it: simon is definitely half venezuelan. this is canon as of S2. there is no other place in the world where that dish is called pabellón. please keep that in mind when you're writing and researching.
5b- this, along with several of the points above, is important because it's a bit of diaspora trauma that whenever we venture outside of latin america and people learn we're latino, they immediately assume we're mexican, or that our culture and traditions are the same as those of mexican people. it happens often, and it's incredibly annoying. not that there's anything wrong with mexico or mexican people-- they're lovely, and their traditions and culture and food are fantastic-- but we are not them, and treating us like we are is reductive. the rest of latin america can be very different and incredibly diverse, and it can be dispiriting when people treat us like we're all the same. so that is why it is important when writing about simon, his family or his venezuelan roots, that you take care to actually research things as they are in venezuela, and not just pick the low-hanging fruit of latino facts you might've learned through pop cultural osmosis, which eight times out of ten will be mexican-only because most hispanic people in the US are mexican and the US exports its media all over the world. i've learned to just roll my eyes at it by now, but some people might actually feel offended or hurt, and i'm sure nobody here intends for that to happen.
6- although simon speaks spanish, neither he nor sara nor his mother nor any aspect of his mother's culture is spanish. "spanish" is what people from spain call themselves. people from spanish-speaking latin american countries are not spanish; we are hispanic, or latino/a/e. "latinx" is… let's call it controversial, at least outside of the US. most people born and raised in latin america don't like it; i personally don't get offended if people use it, but i don't use the term myself. also, you can say "latin food" or "latin music," but we usually don't refer to PEOPLE as latin, but rather latino/a/e. if in doubt, just use latin american or hispanic. they're also conveniently gender neutral.
EDIT: @andthatisnotfake also brought up a very important point: "if you spell it latinx, it makes it harder for screen readers to read (or so I've been told) and some people depend on those, so there's another reason to avoid it." (the unpronounceability of that term is at least part of the reason why hispanic people who live in latin america don't like it.)
6b- never use "the latino/a" on its own to refer to people. "latino/a/e" is an adjective, not a noun, so you would say "the latino boy" or "the latino man" but never just "the latino." kinda like it would be weird to point out the one japanese man in a room as "the japanese." there are some nationality/ethnic terms that just don't work as nouns in english.
7- spanish is not simon's one native language-- or at least not any more than swedish is. he grew up in a mixed-race household, speaking two different languages. it's pointless to call spanish his native language when comparing it to swedish. both are his native languages. also, while we're at this, wille is probably at least bilingual (i'm assuming he can speak at least english), although he only has one native language. it's hardly a competition between the two boys as to who's more of a polyglot.
7b- simon wouldn't take classes on the spanish language-- like to learn how to SPEAK the language-- since spanish is one of his native languages. he wouldn't take them at hillerska, nor in university, nor elsewhere. he wouldn't be allowed. you're literally not allowed to take classes on your native language, nor get credit for said classes. trust me, those would've been an easy extra 24 credits for me in college if that was a thing.
EDIT: have been made aware (thanks, @rightsogetthis and @plantbasedfish!) that at least in sweden and in finland one IS allowed to take classes of your non-swedish/finnish native language, in certain circumstances. i have to say, i'd be pissed if i were taking my french classes alongside a french native speaker, but hey, the system's the system, i guess. ;) so i've struck this one out.
8- dear god please don't use google translate for your spanish translations. listen, i'm not judging-- i do it with other languages, too, when i'm in a pinch. but google translate is literally The Worst (tm) so i always try to either check with someone, or stick to the stuff i already know is correct. seriously, you don't want to know the kinds of crazy stuff GT can spit out that people actually put out in the real world; some of them are quite hilarious. if you're unsure, my ask box/messages are always open and i looooove helping people with this kind of thing, hispanic language and cultural stuff. i know it seems like i'm hardly around, but i do check my messages. don't be shy, even if it's something really small.
PS: while i'm talking pet peeves, malin is wille's bodyguard, not his butler. she's nice enough to attend to him at hillerska because there's no other palace staff around and she's literally stationed outside his door, but she wouldn't do that in the actual palace. there's other staff for that. she wouldn't even guard him at the palace, i don't think, because the royal palaces in sweden are guarded by the royal guard, not SÄPO. if anything, malin might spend the time while wille is in the palace grounds at a gatehouse (like in YR 2x03 and onwards) or at some kind of security office in the palace, and then get called whenever wille needs to go anywhere. she wouldn't be giving wille messages from the queen or walking guests to wille's room or anything like that. that's not her job. (sorry, i had to get that off my chest, lol.)

hewwo anj!!!! I was reading your post on how you break down arthur's likeness and how you study/what you noticed for him body language wise, how his facial features are, etc. and if that's possible, would you ever do the same for merlin? Regardless, thank you for ur merlin art ily ❤️🫶
sorry i took forever to get to this fyscka!! i got real busy lmao. anyways thoughts abt it under the cut
once again going to try not to sound weirdly obsessive abt this stuff because it sounds more insane when i put all the details into words when they just like. exist as nebulous thoughts in my brain. idk anyways
more tracing because tracing is good for figuring things out.. also fun. when you trace things a bunch for practice you pick up on the repetition like. how someone's face looks with different movement and the overlap between them. like how similar a happy expression can be to an aggressive expression and how similar an aggressive expression can be to a terrified one. if that makes sense
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it is interesting too with merlin because he varies a lot over the seasons? not just with being yknow. older. like hes thinner in s2-4 than s1+5, and we all know how much his haircut varies. i dunno i just think facially he varies a lot more than arthur
Tumblr media
sorry again for crunchy images heres a few specifics i tend to notice
when hes fighting or putting in a lot of physical strength/effort his mouth pulls up high and his nose scrunches which causes a crease from the corners of his nose. same crease as you would see when he smiles, but since the nose is scrunched the part of the crease next to the nose is more prominent. usually when i see people scrunch their nose like that it wrinkles on top of the bridge but his seems to wrinkle more at the sides. also eyebrow furrow very important
hes got a very strong chin its rather large and squared off. his eyes and the folds beneath his eyes crinkle a lot when he smiles. the smile lines appear with a point to them. also hes got a very prominent adams apple
low eyebrows, widest at their arch which is more lateral. ill talk more abt his teeth in a minute but hes got the american girl doll teeth when his lips are parted lmao
his eyes are pretty deep set, so when you see him in profile theres a good bit of distance between the bridge of his nose and his eye. when his hair is longer the hair around his ears tends to curl towards his face. same w the hair on his neck. his nose has a pretty subtle bump to the bridge and then the tip turns up a bit, but overall Not an upturned nose
his ears stick out we know this..... you can see the contrast of the hollow of his cheeks vs his mouth muscle sometimes (usually more in s2+3). his nose is in a pretty neutral position here
as opposed to this one where his nose broadens a little with his smile. smile lines again pretty triangular.
faces are soft and when one feature moves usually the others slightly move/change with it. some other things are teeth which i meant to talk abt in the arthur post too, but yeah. merlin's got pretty prominent front teeth, and arthur's got his one crooked canine. hair also is (at least to me) pretty important... his hair is always cropped above the eyebrows and imo he's less recognizable as merlin if its not. its not especially fluffy or curly either. not to say he cant be drawn with different haircuts haha, sometimes it just makes him a little harder to recognize
Tumblr media
again body shape + language is just as important is not more so, bc we're drawing a character not an actor!! theres a few things i think about w merlin
- hes pretty thin with the exception of s5, but always pretty lanky lookin - just generally pretty angular? idk - he is somewhat broad but the slouching and not being shredded (usually) tend to negate that a little - he crouches a lot or pulls his legs up when he sits (hes so real for that) - when hes not using his hands they tend to just be at his sides, when he's standing he'll put them behind his back sometimes, when talking he'll gesture with them usually around his head or hip/waist level - he slouches more than arthur, his shoulders are usually somewhat forward - when he's confused or teasing often he'll push his head forward - tilts his head a lot when hes teasing or happy or confused - draws his shoulders up to his ears when he's uncomfortable, confused, or frightened - whereas arthur moves very purposefully, merlin moves in a way that just looks like he has a lot less spatial awareness idk a better way to describe it lmao. like u know hes clumsy even when he's not actively being clumsy
honestly i dont tend to put too much detail in faces because i dont draw in a very realistic style so i tend to lean more into shapes and body language to make characters recognizable, but knowing how the face works still plays into it a lot?
anyways i hope this makes at least a little sense lmao

Time Out in the Upside Down
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(GIFs by @kwistowee)
When the above comparison was posted on Reddit, somebody pointed out that it looks like Ralph just stepped out of the time machine into Eddie's trailer. I, who have been grading papers for three days straight and delirious with boredom, naturally thought, Hey, that sounds like a fun idea, and proceeded to write a little one-shot because I wanted to procrastinate. I don't know who wants to read it, but here it is.
Tumblr media
Ralph stepped out of the lift, into a murky gray light. He squinted. An evil red glare flashed through the dimness, showing him a cramped room, covered in what looked like thick vines or roots. It certainly wasn't a corridor of the swanky hotel he'd just entered. Flakes of snow or ash swirled in the air, sticking to his nose and his throat as he took a breath.
"Achoo!"
The moment the sneeze escaped him, the walls of the room shook ominously. Scratching, scraping sounds echoed from the ceiling, like some sort of animals—a lot of them—were crawling over the roof.
Ralph fixed his pith helmet more firmly on his head and clutched at his rifle to stop his hands from shaking. Where in the world was he? He knew he shouldn't have tempted fate. He knew he shouldn't have gotten into that lift, not after what Lauren and her friends had told him about it, not after he'd seen how it reduced Lauren's brother, Nick, to a shell of a man. Curiosity killed the cat, as his sister Victoria would've said.
He turned around, hoping to go back the way he came, but to his horror, the lift had vanished.
Ralph barely had time to panic, when he heard voices. They were coming from behind a door at the end of the room, whispering at first, then becoming louder as they rose in contention.
"I did hear something, I swear to God!" one of them said. It sounded young. Not a child, but not quite an adult either.
"Maybe it was your own fart," another voice, older, retorted. Their accent was... strange. American, Ralph thought. A bit rougher than the American visitors he'd met in London, but close.
"Haha, very funny. No, it was more like a—like a sneeze."
Ralph held himself very, very still.
"Are you saying those bats can sneeze?" the older voice snapped.
"Just open the door, will you?!"
"OK. But if this got me killed, I swear I'll be your personal poltergeist, Henderson."
The door handle started turning. Ralph looked around, frantic like a trapped animal. There was nowhere for him to go. The lift was gone. The window was too small, and either way, it was blocked by one of those slimy vines. The only way out was through the door, where the two unknown persons were waiting. Ralph fumbled with his rifle, wondering if he should raise it. He wasn't even sure how to hold it properly.
"Just open it! Like a Band-Aid!" the young voice—Henderson's—said, impatiently.
"Shut up!"
The door burst open with a bang.
Ralph screamed.
The person on the other side of the door screamed.
Then the person stopped.
"Who the hell are you?" he asked, staring at Ralph.
Ralph stared back.
It was like looking into a mirror.
Before Ralph or the other man could recover their shock, another face peered over the other man's shoulder. Henderson, Ralph presumed. He was a boy, dressed peculiarly in some sort of hooded jumper with a cloak of fur or feather or moss draped over it.
The boy's eyes went wide as they landed on Ralph.
"Holy. Shit," he said solemnly.
***
"Are you sure you two are not related?" Henderson asked, once they had settled into the room on the other side of the door. It was slightly more spacious, but also covered in the same vines. Strangest of all, there was a rope made out of bed sheets hanging from the ceiling, and when Ralph looked up, he saw something that made him doubt his sanity. The rope went through a fissure on the ceiling, a gash in the middle of a coil of vines, and what was on the other side of the fissure was—another room, a mirror image of this one, complete with a mattress directly below the rope, only upside down. He couldn't understand what he was looking at, so he stopped looking and turned his attention back to his new acquaintances.
Not that looking at them was any better, especially the young man that Henderson called Eddie. If it wasn't for Eddie's long hair and outlandish garb—a sleeveless, puffy vest worn over a leather jacket, a black handkerchief tied around his head, pirate-like, and a bandolier slung low over his waist in place of a belt—he and Ralph could have been twins. Not in the same way that Ralph and Victoria were twins—born on the same day but looking nothing alike. Eddie was a little leaner around the face, but they shared every feature. Even some of their movements were similar. It was disconcerting, to say the very least.
Eddie rolled his eyes at Henderson's question. "I think I'd known if I was related to some snobby Brit dressed like an extra on Raiders of the Lost Ark," he said, while sizing Ralph up. "Besides, I don't see much of a resemblance."
Henderson shook his head. "Sorry about him," he said to Ralph.
Ralph shrugged helplessly. He could detect the contempt in Eddie's voice, but he was too bewildered to feel offended.
"So you came here in... a time machine?" Henderson said. Ralph nodded.
"Does it look like a DeLorean?" Eddie chimed in. "Were you accompanied by a crazy scientist named Doc Brown?"
This time, his contempt was unmistakable, and Ralph's hackles were up.
"Listen here, you pillock, let's throw you into my world and see how you fare!" he hissed. This boor wouldn't last a day with Victoria bossing him around.
"Pillock?" Eddie said with a snort. "Where did you come from, a Dickens novel?"
"No, 1926 London, you—you plank!"
Before Eddie could think of a comeback, Henderson stepped in. "Would you both just calm down? Jesus. In case you haven't noticed, we have bigger things to worry about here."
Eddie shrugged, unintentionally mimicking Ralph's gesture just a moment ago. An overwhelming sense of déjà-vu washed over Ralph, and he had to close his eyes briefly.
"The time machine's in a lift," he explained. "My friends, they came from—from the future in it. I was going to join the French Legion, but on the way to the dock to catch my ship, I went past the hotel where they said the lift was located, so I thought, let's check it out, what's the harm? And now... here I am."
"And where's this lift now?" Henderson asked.
"It's disappeared," Ralph replied miserably.
Henderson and Eddie glanced at each other.
"I know this sounds like horsefeathers," Ralph said. "But it is the truth. I am from 1926. Look." He opened his knapsack and dug out his identification papers. "Look at my date of birth!"
Remarkably, the other two didn't seem that surprised.
"Hey, three days ago I didn't know there was another dimension under my hometown," Eddie said. "Honestly, a time machine in an elevator sounds almost normal compared to that."
Their easy acceptance calmed Ralph down. "But what sort of future is this?" he asked. "Are we at war?" He glanced at the nail-studded bin lids and homemade spears that Henderson and Eddie held in their hands.
Again, they exchanged a look.
"I guess you can say that—" Henderson began.
"It'll take too long to explain," Eddie interrupted. "We don't have time." He nodded at the ceiling meaningfully. That horrible scratching sound still hadn't stopped. If anything, it had gone louder... and more concentrated, like whatever creatures making it had gathered into one spot. "So just stay out of the way, OK, Limey?"
"What is that—" Ralph asked, only to earn a furious "Shhhhhh!!!" from both Henderson and Eddie.
Without further discussion, they all quieted down and strained their ears, trying to gauge where the sound was.
BANG! A vent on the ceiling exploded inward, making them jump.
The thing poking its head through the opening was—Ralph had no words to describe it. He guessed it could be called a bat, if a bat was the size of a large cat, had three rows of teeth, razor-sharp claws, and a forked tail. It shrieked at them, a horrible, piercing screech.
Eddie and Henderson jumped to their feet, bin-lid shields at the ready, and drove their spears at the opening. Their stabs managed to hit the target a few times, but the bat refused to back down despite the black blood dripping from its face. When it did retreat, even more terrifyingly, several others took its place, like a Hydra. There were too many of them. Already they were tearing through the ceiling. Soon they would swarm into the room. Ralph hated to think what those teeth could do to a person.
The boys kept screaming and stabbing, but there was no stopping the bats. Ralph tried to get out of their way, tried to combat the fear and the guilt. It appeared he would always be useless, no matter where or when he was.
Then his eyes landed on his Legion-issued rifle on the floor, where he'd put it.
Well, how hard could it be? You just point and shoot.
He snatched the rifle up. "Duck!" he shouted.
"Those are not ducks, they're—" Eddie yelled back, but Henderson, apparently the more clear-headed of the two, immediately dropped to the floor and pulled Eddie along.
Ralph pulled the trigger.
The explosion was so close, it knocked his hearing out. All he saw was a flash and a puff of smoke, and then the smell of gunpowder assaulted his nostrils, telling him that he had indeed fired a shot.
A jagged hole stood where the open vent was, but the bats were gone, save for a large blood splatter.
"Close it!!!" Henderson screamed. Eddie pulled a chair over and jumped on it, throwing his nail-studded shield at the hole. The nails stuck to the ceiling, holding the shield in place. Then they both turned and looked at Ralph in awe and gratitude.
The ringing in Ralph's ears died down, enough for him to hear Henderson gasp, "Dude, why didn't you use that before?"
For a while, the three of them could only sit and breathe and grin at each other in that companionable, relieved way strangers often do when they just get through some ordeal together.
Suddenly, Henderson's smile went out, his face paled, and he jumped to his feet, closely followed by Eddie.
The angry shrieks of the bats were coming back, getting closer.
Henderson tightened his grip on his spear. Eddie picked up the remaining shield on the ground and turned to Ralph. "You'll be OK with that?" he asked, nodding at the rifle.
"Yes," Ralph said, with a confidence he didn't quite feel.
"Good." Eddie seemed to have come to a decision. He unclasped the bandolier around his waist and handed it to Ralph. "Welcome to the Upside Down."
Tumblr media
And then Ralph saved Eddie from the demobats with his gun, and somehow Ralph found the time machine again and made his way back home, where he met a nice American girl whose last name was Munson, and they had a kid together (Wayne). When World War II broke out, she had to go home and they got separated, but she gave birth to another kid (Eddie's dad), and that's how Ralph Penbury became Eddie Munson's grandfather. (Can you tell I wrote this very, very late last night?)

i made some tags but i want to talk more about some "red flag" books. sorry for any typos or if my english is incorrect at any point, it's not my first language.
Tumblr media
i added the following tags:
Tumblr media
let's start by saying i happen to LOVE haruki murakami and i think his philosophical takes on his books are marvelous. like i said in the tags, you HAVE to be older to understand some things that are not explicit when you're younger or on a first read-through (for example, fight club doesnt pack the same punch [haha punch] when you read it a second time, then you see the signals pointing to the end were there all along but you didn't pick up the information). that's what i mean by saying picking up undertones when you're older, you have more information to contextualize (or re-contextualize) a book.
like, imagine you're 14 and you read american psycho. you probably don't even know what a yuppie is. and by missing that you're missing why bateman acts the way he does. and it does the same thing fight club does, which is to present us with unreliable narrators. but again you may not pick that up until you're older and can understand the themes of toxic masculinity (fight club) or the objectification of women, critic to the capitalism model and mental health issues (american psycho).
i love sylvia plath but admittedly, you do have to be a certain age to read the bell jar because of its themes of mental health, depression and suicide, but those are not red flags, those are triggers. why are these people keeping away a beautifully written story about mental health issues saying it's a red flag to read this book? this makes no sense to me. and tbh i HAVE to laugh at the sticker on gone girl. "if shes reading this she probably watched jennifer's body at least once". this cracked me up. i am aware of its flaws but i love jennifer's body (and it's a fuck you to men everywhere despite the ending), and that comment is so correct. gone girl also says fuck you to men, and it should not be considered a red flag. like... grow up maybe.
now, about the thing that will probably haunt my dreams this night. HOW IS FRANKENSTEIN ON A RED FLAG SHELF?! sure it's philosophical af but i read it at a young age and as i grew up i reread it a lot (i do have this problem, instead of buying new books, i reread mine because having dynamic reading means i end them REALLY fast and i end up with the same books to read lol), understanding more and more with more age. HOW in the world is this book a red flag? i honestly can't see it. yeah it is horror and a bit sci-fi but i was reading stephen king by age 9 and i turned out (mostly) fine. this one pisses me off to no end.
anyway i don't even know if anyone will read this but i already typed everything so. i'm ending these here. if i misexplained or mansplained anything pls let me know (i'm a trans man so please fell free). and if you wanna know more about the books that i mentioned both in the tags and this post, i can try and give a trigger warning or a spoilers-free synopsis of the ones I've already read.

Hi Nikki! I just read through your answer from your most recent anon ask and your amazing tags too, of course. anyways. pls say more things.... 👀
I love this post-cos HC. so interesting!
HI!!!! First off, I have to say I’m quite honored you messaged me because you’re one of my fav fma artists!! When I think of my early years in this fandom, your art is one of the things I think of 🥰🥰
OKAY. SO. POST-COS. Like I said in my previous post, I think they definitely fudged Alfons’s papers for Alphonse. Ed was his roommate, he would have had possession of all the stuff Alfons, my poor boy, left behind, and it was the 20’s, it wouldn’t have been too hard to forge the documents a little further to match Al’s age, appearance, etc. Idk why, but I feel like they would have lied on the papers and said Al was older than he was, maybe to get government agencies off his and Ed’s backs in case they wanted to force Al into school or foster care or something. I could see them saying he’s like 15/16, and since he is mentally like 16, I don’t think it’d be too hard to pull off. He’d just be a little short for his supposed age (oh how the tables have turned!!)
Anyway, I think directly post-movie, Ed and Al (and Noah!) went on to have adventures all over Europe while trying to find and destroy the bomb, similar to how they ran all over Amestris to find the stone. And this is a more lighthearted hc but imagine them getting to travel to all these amazing places and learning all these brand new cultures!!! I know Al’s had his body back for a while post-CoS, but I think he would absolutely love all the new foods, experiences, etc.
Did they succeed in destroying the bomb? Either they did (great!) because the Axis powers didn’t use uranium bombs, or they didn’t and somehow it ended up with the Americans. Oppenheimer who??
Either way, personally, I think the boys stayed in Europe through the war. I mean, it would have been difficult to leave after a certain time, but they’re also not ones to leave a fight when they can stay and help people. Also, I feel the need to point out, by the time the war was in full swing, Ed would have been late thirties, so for this next headcanon, you need to be envisioning older, Hohenheim carbon-copy Ed. But I think Ed and Al would 1000% join the underground resistance. Can’t you see them doing that?! Secret missions to blow up or set fire to government buildings to destroy as many records as they could, sabotaging railway lines, things like that. They both have incredible knowledge of science, especially chemistry, and Ed was in the military, these things would have made them super knowledgeable and super effective to a resistance.
But I also think they would have been in constant danger, I could see them having to stay hidden or be on the run constantly (but hey! They’ve done that too, so they know how to do it!). Idk, I just feel like they might hide out with a resistance and help others to hide with them. And there would definitely be some doppelgängers in their midst, you just know it!!
That’s all I’ve got tbh. They would probably stay and try to help rebuild too after the war, but at the same time, I can see them just being tired of the constant fighting and running and turmoil they would have been through for over 30 years at that point. I can see them taking a step back and trying to lead more or less peaceful lives once the war ended.
As for how they ended up in Japan? I have absolutely no clue haha. I feel like after the war, maybe they continued to travel in search of knowledge, similar to how they did it at the end of the manga, and somehow it lead them to Japan, and they liked it, so they settled there!
Also, 84 year old Ed was definitely in attendance for the grand opening of the first Hot Topic in 1989. Just kidding (sort of…)
Sorry to everyone that has to scroll past this, this ended up much longer than I thought it would! Lol. Anyone who has post-CoS headcanons, feel free to come share them because honestly I think there’s a lot of directions they could’ve gone after the movie!

Hello, I hope you’re having a great day.
I haven’t played any zombies maps later than bo4 (I’m sorry). Can you explain what happens afterwards with Samantha and “the Director” and also possibly recommend some maps? Thank you 😊😊😊
One of the many improvements cw brought to zombies was that they made the storyline WAYYY more accessible. Meaning, now you could collect intel and radios in-game, then check them out in your game menu anytime you wanted. So the summary below has a radio/intel/cutscene you can find online! If you wanted to catch up on the story as a whole, all you need is some headphones and free time.
So, Sam and Eddie go into the light at the end of [REDACTED] in bo4…
Sam doesn’t remember her childhood starting the new story, and only remembers the orphanage in West Berlin. There's another gap in her past again, until she goes to Heidelberg (the same college Primis Ed went to!!) and graduates in math/language. She's then recruited to the western intelligence agency to keep an eye on what the communists are up to.
Eddie has zero personal history revealed. We only have small bits like: he was a fighter pilot (a callback to the "red baron" Manfred Von Richtofen haha. His plane was literally called the “blue baron”), he experimented on college students once by purposefully drugging them, and he has/*had a woman and child in his life. Also, he has an American accent like child-at-the-house Ed.
*whether they are alive is not confirmed, but the current evidence suggests they are not. Though, that has more to do with Weaver than Samantha. I could address this in a post not about Sam and Eddie's relationship.
He joins the CIA under the office of extra-regular activities, but when Sam learns of the soviets opening the dark aether portal, the CIA finds out as well. Ed proposes to create requiem to contain the threat, which is approved.
So, now we may assume that we're at the beginning of Cold War.
Sam and Eddie officially first cross paths after Samantha was hospitalized. A different character, Dr. Peck, pushed her into the portal to the dark aether… BUT Eddie told Dr. Peck, explicitly, to banish sam. It's also important to note that dark aether time progresses differently, where 10 earth years = 100 dark aether years. So, sam was physically and psychologically damaged after 2 earth days/several dark aether months spent surviving.
One can suspect that, unlike sam, Eddie can remember the aether storyline. He wanted her to be exposed to the dark aether, and for her to weild her former powers. We find that other people trapped in the dark aether never ended up developing powers. Instead, they go insane, die, or mutate.
(and I say Eddie can remember, because only Sam was able to control zombies at any point of the aether story. After moon, Ult Richtofen's zombie control powers were immediately severed when maxis exploded the earth. In the comics, his control of zombies was because /he/ was also a zombie. Or rather, using a zombie body. So he knows it had to be /sam/ that goes through the portal because she'd get powers.)
Now back to the hospital. As she recovers, she reveals visions and dreams she doesn't understand- as the player, we know she is recalling the aether story. For example, she mentions the great war and familiar faces…
When Sam starts showing signs that she can do special things, Ed forces her to go to a facility to "train" her newfound powers. However, he uses supreme abuse and manipulation to force the powers to surface. (I.e. forcing sam to teleport her dog away from gunfire, straight up exploding a random guy so Eddie won't get her girlfriend assassinated on camera…)
Eddie is deliberately using torture to surface and control her powers, too. During the hospital stay, Sam was able to levitate a book after getting really excited over seeing her gf (gf is canonical by the way). Eddie could use any strong emotion, but is probably his cruelest iteration here.
Eddie eventually manipulates Sam that she needs to give herself up so the forsaken (the antagonist of cw) doesn't destroy the world. She does so by entering the forsaken, which is in-turn able to be captured by the husk of robo-sophia.
As of now in the story, Sam is MIA, and Eddie closed down Requiem to pursue "project Janus," which has not been revealed . We know likely has to do with sam's sacrafice and the capture of the forsaken.
So that’s Eddie and Sam’s relationship! Very tense, but they also share many similarities with each other as characters.
AS FOR MAP RECOMMENDATIONS.. Firebase Z is king. It’s literally so fun and I never get bored with it. It has elements similar to origins, mob of the dead, DE, and the story is fullest here. Outbreak is a great map to get acquainted with the new play-style and is completely unique and exciting. If you’re looking for tighter gameplay and some comedy, Maur Der Toten. There’s a robot character named Klaus that’s just Primis Ed without a filter.

MAG 68 - folding laundry
"Thanks for letting me do this. I mean, I know you let anyone record a statement. That’s why you’re the Magnus Institute!" - Shots fired, haha xD
"Never had the academic chops to get access to your library or anything, but when all those statements were leaked back in ‘99" - <.< I wonder if it was a coincident that the Magnus Institute in Manchester burned down in 1999 in the Magnus Protocol or if there is any connection to this incident.
"So I’m kind of an artist. I like to use the detritus of mankind’s time on this planet to craft its own reflection back at itself, you know? So I take what others consider garbage and use it to send a message to the puppetmasters and fat cats who hold our lives in the palm of their hand and play with our society like a chess game. A message of art. You know what I’m talking about." - Actually I don't… and I graduated art school. So, does he take trash, make it into art and then sells it to rich people? If they don't consider you a super duper artsy-genius with a famous name, they probably won't care.
"And when you’re making art, you don’t need to be picky. If something’s not perfect, you can make it perfect. You use the beauty inside of you to reach in and pull the beauty out of the object. Sometimes by breaking it more; sometimes by repairing it just enough. And, once, by setting it on fire." - Oh god, that statement-giver sounds like my art teachers…
"I think his name’s Gus. Or Al. He looks like a Gus or an Al." - -__-
I just wanna say Jonny is playing this self-centered, overly confident art guy on speed extremely well. My brain is constantly trying to shut down.
"Don’t know who owned it before, might have even have been a library copy but the sticker was mostly torn off." - lol
Is there static during the passage from the book?
"I asked the corporal for his name, and was told that that was Private Amherst. Fitting enough, I remarked, that he should be named for a dealer in smallpox" (/later in the post-statement segment "Another point is a link that Treeves brings up which I had not considered, that of Jeffrey Amherst, an 18th century baronet who is most remembered for deliberately providing blankets infected with smallpox to Native American tribes during the so-called French and Indian Wars, leading to a devastating epidemic.") - So here's the thing. I didn't know there was an actual Amherst (Jeffery instead of John, but still) with a history in using diseases as weapon. In Austria we learn about prehistoric times, antiquity (a lot about Romans), medieval times, Renaissance, (everything about Central Europe and Mediterranean region) industrial revolution and then we learn 3 years about the first and second world war. I have almost no knowledge about the History of Britain. Even less the US, especially not in detail. I know that there was a discourse about using the name of a rl historical figure who actually did a lot of harm.
I love how these are stories withing a story within a story XD
"Be careful carrying it, though, those old pages are kind of sharp." - Oh no…
"Insects and disease. No clear connection, other than the fact that they somehow feel similar. They both make one feel distinctly unclean." - And that's all there is. It feels right. There is no clear line between the Fears. I love how this works! Soft magic systems are such an underused concept that can work so, so well!
"I’m in the tunnels. I was exploring and I got lost." - LMAO
"There were a couple of spiders, so I changed routes and found, I think it’s a gas main." - <.<
"I didn’t prepare for – AAH" - Jon getting scared is extremely funny! That little scream xD
NOT!SASHA "Hard to focus." / JON "The place plays odd tricks with your mind. When I saw Sasha down there, for a moment it was like I didn’t recognize her. She seemed… far too tall somehow." - Hmmm, so do the tunnels also affect other Fears? It's well known that it blocks the Eye, but the Not!Them also seemed to have a hard time? On the contrary the Corruption seemed to have had a field trip down there, the worms were faster and quieter in the tunnels, which was better for them to get to they prey.
Hmm the corruption getting stronger down there is an interesting question. What powers get lost in these tunnels and what powers are more potent? Is there consistency in how they are affected?

#IndustryQs hi! Your work is so amazing, and it’s really cool that you worked on anime productions like magia record and boruto! I wanted to ask, what was the experience like? Did they reach out to you on social media? Did you mostly communicate in Japanese? Was the schedule pretty tight or more relaxed? Sorry for the barrage of questions, I know you must be busy so no pressure to answer!
No worries at all! If anything, I apologize for taking so long to answer all these questions. ^^; But yes, working in anime is very different compared to American animation productions. I've worked on...*counting* 5 animes as of writing this post so everything I say here is from the perspective of a "first year" animator in anime and there's still much for me to learn.
And with that, let's get to the questions! Did they reach out to you on social media? Yes! Although my first anime (Madoka Magia Record) was through a email from Studio Shaft, everything after that has been primarily through Twitter. It's one of those situations where once you do one anime the PAs (production assistants) come out of the woods and try to recruit you haha. I started Madoka in late February and got onto my second anime (BORUTO) in late May. Overall, the PAs are always searching for new talent through social media by looking up words like "animator" (both in Japanese and English) so that's one way they could find you. But I would caution that 'cause anime productions....are a beast of their own and I'll explain later in a different question. Did you mostly communicate in Japanese? For the most part, yes. Thankfully I'm literate in Japanese (like elementary~middle school level) just enough to comprehend what's given to me. But I do want to get better so I can communicate with directors better. Some studios do have translators if you're an English speaker. One studio that I'm working on an original anime with makes it a point to have a translator whenever I'm in a video call with the episode director. Which is very sweet of them haha. Otherwise, I communicate mainly in Japanese through messages/texts/emails etc. Was the schedule pretty tight or more relaxed? Aha....so here's the thing about anime (and I apologize if this will frighten young animators who want to work on anime): The turnarounds in anime are extremely tight and extraneous. Unfortunately, the production schedule of an anime can be very short and artists are often working up till the broadcast date of an episode. On Madoka Magia Record, I started working on layouts/key animation in late February and had to turn in my work by the second week of March since the episode aired the first week of April. That's not a lot of time. Comparing that to an American animation TV production, it takes a least a year to produce one episode from writing to final delivery and the broadcast dates are waaaaaaaay far in advance when final delivery is given. So when you're watching an episode of your favorite American cartoon, that episode was made a whole year in advance and by the time you are watching the episode the production is probably halfway through the next season. With anime, those episodes are animated, colored, composited, recorded, mixed, etc. probably 1-3 months within the air date. That's a super tight schedule and can burn out artists quickly if you don't research carefully about Japanese animation productions. Or, if your skills are not at the level to produce that kind of work on tight schedules. But not every Japanese studio is like this. In fact, there are productions that are similar to an American animation production (time schedule wise). For example, it has been reported that the latest season of Mob Psycho 100 was done far in advance, giving artists more time to make the 3rd season look amazing (which it does!). And you're probably wondering why? Well, it comes down to budget aka the money. The more money you have, the more time you have to not only make the art look pretty, but to pay your production crew fairly and have better deadlines. If you're wondering why shows like Chainsaw Man, Demon Slayer, Mob, and so on look absolutely amazing chances are those productions might have a bigger budget so naturally the studio is going to put their all into a project that has that. Now we can talk all day about budgets and how important they are to animation productions from pay, scheduling, marketing and so on but I would be derailing from the question haha.
Main point is: most animes have tight deadlines and for young artists it can be pretty harmful if you don't understand the pipeline. Because there just isn't time, the productions can't train you and you kind of are on your own which can be daunting. There are studios that will take advantage of you and ask for 40 fully key animated shots in two weeks (I have experienced this). It can be overwhelming, tiring and damaging to your creative energy/spirit. So if you are interested in working in anime, I highly suggest you to research about the anime pipeline and talk with animators who have worked on anime about their experiences (and their advice as well). I was lucky enough to have two people teach me the ropes and I think I would have burned out super quickly if I didn't have them. Overall, what's it like working on anime? It...honestly feels surreal haha. Like super surreal. I spent all of my school years (including college) being told that I either would never work on anime or never get a job because I drew in an anime-like style. And to have the opportunity to work on something that has been very much a part of my childhood is so cool but also "holy shit wait am I really doing this???" Granted, there's so much I still need to learn and seeing everyone else's work just fills me with motivation to get better haha. In just under a year, I learned so many things and I've gotten a lot faster at drawing as well as making deliberate decisions in my art. So I hope can continue to work on animes, learn more about the pipeline and maybe try different roles 'cause there are somethings that I believe American animation productions can learn from them (and vice versa). But yeah, overall it's been a fun time working on anime even though it's kind of like a boot camp in the beginning??? But still a fun challenge haha! Hopefully that answered your questions!

hi vik!
i just wanted to scoot in here and ask smth rq!! this is not an admonishment i’m just curious /gen
is there a reason skinny people have to be put down to lift fat people? like! idk personally i think body positivity should include All bodies big middle and small. if we’re skinny shaming people for their bodies we’re still commenting on how they look which can. really. have negative effects (as a person w eating issues)
plus like!! skinny is not always a choice just as fat is not always a choice. pre-diagnosis type 1 diabetics or people with overactive metabolisms or people who were in bad environments and developed an eating disorder just. idk it feels a little weird that body positivity (esp on tumblr) is Only about fat people it feels counterintuitive
this is all /nm /gen i am just!!! curious okay have a good day :D
Hi anon! I'm not quite sure what post you might be talking about, so I've scrolled through all my reblogs from the pst 24 hours to find all the posts about fat/skinny people to try and find the problem. If its not one of these post you were talking about feel free to send me the link of the one you were talking about, or that made you want to ask me this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't think this is making fun of skinny people, just pointing out art often over exaggerates skinniness to an extreme, making people think any drawing where a woman isn't incredibly tiny is a "plus sized" drawing even though irl they would be considered skinny.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This one doesn't mention skinny people at all, just saying how some people from cultures out side of the us often like to dog pile on the idea "all Americans are fat and that makes them gross haha" which is a complete dog shit take for many reasons. I also say in the tags that we should not make fun of anyone for what they eat or how much they eat, that includes skinny people and people who only eat "healthy" foods, and people who don't eat a lot.
Tumblr media
I mean both fat bitches and skinny bitches alike can not cast fireball. Sadly. There should be more fat bitches casting fireball in video games tho
Tumblr media
I'm pretty sure this might be the one that made you upset, it has a much meaner tone then the rest. But it's also not making fun of skinny people. It's saying "if you reblog fat positive posts, just to say something along the lines of "i agree but im sooo small and skinny and tiny! But i agree!" You are scared of being seen as fat. And yes, I do understand that ED's play a real role in this, I have two teen sisters who both have ED's and last summer I only let myself eat anything other them sugar free mints and black coffee once every three days I have both expected and seen first hand what ED's do. But that doesn't excuse the fact going on a fat positive post and showing everyone you are scared of being confused for a fat person can make fat people also scared about being seen as fat. It can also make anyone thats still pretty skinny or small thats even a bit bigger then you scared that maybe they are "too big"
I am really genuinely sorry if any I have personally said or reblogged has made you mad or hurt you anon. I don't think anything I've recently said was anti skinny or trying to make skinny people feel bad for there weight. Again if it wasn't one of these posts you were concerned about please send it to me so I can try and understand more of where you are coming from
/gen hope you have a good day too anon!!:3

once upon a marquess by courtney milan: m/f romance. judith, a ruined woman from a ruined family, encounters the man responsible for her familys downfall: her childhood friend. i started reading through this series bc of the most recent installment, the devil comes reading. that ones still my favorite but this one is pretty good! the relationships between the worth siblings were really good and the banter was cute :3 i think ms milans strong sideplots come through pretty clear here--the tension of judiths search for her sister was really sad! her every wish by courtney milan: f/m romance novella. daisy is trying to bluff her way into a grant to start her business, but only one person has the confidence to bullshit his way through: her ex. ok idgaf about small businesses so i didnt read this one for a while, but crash (the love interest) is sooo charming :3 the reasons that their relationship fell apart and the way those hurts were resolved felt really good i think. yay! the pursuit of… by courtney milan: m/m romance novella. hunter, a black soldier during the american revolution, is trying to get back to his family. a british deserter with nothing better to do accompanies him. yeah this was cute. not a lot to say about it :3 the charm offensive by allison cochrun: m/m romance which i picked up bc its about a romance between the bachelor (from the bachelor) and a producer on set. (its not actually the bachelor.) very cute! very fluffy! i have to say, not quite as good as uhhhh all of the courtney milan books ive read over the past couple months but still pretty solid. dev is a cute lead but i found the other lead (charlie or sth) kinda annoying for a significant portion of the book. which i think is somewhat intentional but its like ehhh. i can find awkward tech boys irl too. (SPOILERS) liked how the 'evil ex' actually got some nuance to him too mrs martins incomparable adventure by courtney milan: f/f romance novella featuring two women over 70!!!! and its conwoman x mark?? dudeee miss milan NEEDS to write more femslash im kinda begging here. this was really light and fluffy and also just really awesome. there is a lot to appreciate about romance when youre old i think. im really into it 👍 after the wedding by courtney milan: f/m romance. ok so if you read the first book in the worth saga u know a big b-plot is about trying to find judiths sister camilla. this book is about camilla! so spoilers for that. she gets forced into a mutually unwanted wedding, and while the bride and groom try to annul the wedding they ~also grow feelings~. another milan novel with a weird amount of detail on ceramic design + manufacture? well im not complaining that part was really cool actually. camillas situation is honestly just really sad so its satisfying to see her get out of it
what happened after midnight by courtney milan: f/m romance novella. a man chases after his (former) betrothed after she runs away with his fortune? yeah this was cute. loved the melodrama
unclaimed by courtney milan: dnf. f/m romance. a woman has staked her livelihood on her ability to seduce the ultimate target: the inventor of male chastity??? lmao this is one of her earlier novels published in 2011 (i think) and it kinda shows? the premise is a little bit too unserious for me and the banter/dynamic between the main pair is just not quite as good. it also felt like it dragged a bit. however!!!! i would still extremely recommend pretty much all of her more recently published stuff!! so
love on the brain by ali hazelwood: dnf. f/m romance, but its also by the reylo author. this one neuroscientist has to work on a project with a guy who she thinks hates her, but actually he is ~super in love and too shy to say it~ my mom really wanted me to read this bc she likes the author a lot and "it has women in stem". well guys i have to say i am not a fan of the reylo author. honestly out of all the women in the book the lead is literally the least interesting one? idk it was bad. uninspiring prose. also i wasnt really a big fan of the way it focused on chauvinism and discrimination in the workplace, but thats a personal thing
comics/manga:
peace of mind (2019): short furry comic about a cosmetic brain surgeon, and some of the issues she just cant fix. yeah this was cute!!! pretty classic concept but presented in a sillyfun way imo. like literally only 20 pages i thought the art style was cute go check it out if you have the time
yugami kun has no friends: slice of life school comedy about a transfer student desperate to make friends after moving around her whole life who unfortunately gets placed next to yugami, who is THE MOST AUTISTIC BOY IN THE WORLD. i think i read this whole series in like two days lmfao its just?? extremely charming??? i really like these sort of slices of life where you get to gradually expand your cast of characters over time. everyone is sort of an ass but also trying their best in the way that high schoolers kinda are. also has some very fun will-they-or-wont-they. bro i felt straightbaited. also has some really charming art with good expressions! definitely recommend :3
to strip the flesh by oto toda: manga oneshot from an anthology. chiaki, a trans man, works as an animal dissection youtuber but feels trapped in the closet to keep his father happy. idt it hit as hard for me as it might for some people but i still liked it! wow being trans! and being meat!
movies/tv:
blade (1998): marvel action movie about vampires (and the half-vampire sworn to slay them) but like, before marvel moveis were bad. watched this with friends over the thanksgiving weekend and it was so badass!!!!!!! fuck yeah!!!! honestly id forgotten that action movies can be good but they seriously can be. full of style :3 the boy and the heron: miyazaki movie about uh, grief? and isekai-ing into a cool world with freaky stuff? i heard somewhat negative reviews from my Movie Friends before watching this, which definitely colored my impression. yeah its a gorgeous movie, but also kinda messy and not super coherent imo. mr miyazaki please quit your job and spend time with your family ok. log off christmas perfection: f/m christmas hallmark romcom. protag who just wants the perfect (IRISH) christmas is transported to a world of eternal (IRISH) christmas where her parents are no longer divorced, everyone drinks hot cocoa every day, she has the perfect boyfriend, etc. will her childhood friend be able to get her out? does she even WANT to get out? so i got this rec from a post made by @.dragonomatopoeia who is apparently the hallmark romcom expert. dude. this movie is so fucking awesome. its literally christmas coraline. i love how everything is irish for no reason and also the irish. please watch this movie
video games:
zachtronics solitaire collection: ok so this is literally just a bunch of solitaire-like games. zachtronic games is infamous for making games that feel like work (spacechem, shenzhen i/o, etc). they also included solitaire minigames in several of these, which are compiled here! most of these are arent standard solitaire games, like spider or klondike. theres a solitaire based off of kabufuda, a solitaire based on mahjong (but not like that other one.) and also my favorite, tarot-based FORTUNES FOUNDATION!! which gives you a READING at the end!!! anyways i had to uninstall this game because i was spending 20 hours a week on it.
7 billion humans: parallel programming game. in a world where robots have replaced all necessary labor, whats left for mankind to do? well, make up jobs for themselves, of course! ive grown up with tomorrow corporations dry, dark, and corporate sense of humor from world of goo and that continues, of course. a fun set of problems that gets really fucking tricky, especially if you even take the teeniest peek at optimization. also has a lot of QOL improvements from the initial game such as being able to c+p code, line by line debugging, and more! i feel like youre already going to know if this game is for you or not.
in stars and time: rpg game about TIMELOOPS!!! siffrin, an adventurer, gets trapped in a timeloop on the day of the final boss. dudeeeeee ok ive been a fan of insertdisc5s writing/art for like an embarrassingly long time and it was really cool to see it in longform. some of my friends got to see me rending my hair and wailing about this game in real time even! i think isabeau + odile was my favorite non siffrin rship, but im a huge sucker for romance so the siffrin + isa stuff really got me. and in the end i got extremely suckerpunched by Loop Obsession and also every single character + convo was very delightful so who can say!!! i remember seeing some crits saying that the writing felt too 'young' or juvenile--it definitely takes a lot of inspiration from undertale, earthbound and the like, but also i think that like. the jrpg genre As A Whole demands some willingness for like. idk Earnest and Youthful Whimsy. plus i literally am a youth so it didnt bother me lol. the game definitely can feel pretty grindy at times, but its also like…. very ludonarratively accurate? or something like that?? like. you get tired of killing the same stuff + skipping the same convos As siffrin becomes inured to the loops, as they become increasingly estranged from the rest of the party. which is honestly really awesome and captures that rpg grindy feeling like nothing else really does haha. (and theres also quite a few features to ease that friction!) even if you played the demo there are some really good twists still left in there and also i teared up at the end fr. who else thought about loop (loop)
music:
i spent a lot of this month listening to the clod by no party for cao dong and scales by king isis, which ive already talked about! so im going to spotlight a couple tracks + one album ig lol?? grace by idles: this is from idles' upcoming album tangk which im super looking forward to!!!! i love when these guys do slower tracks (such as progress and mtt 420 rr from their previous album) and this is a very nice evolution from that. has a warm but slightly eerie feeling zapper by nanoray: more jungle music!!!! this is the album that introduced me to nanoray bc i knew a guy who would just blast this kind of stuff while cleaning the kitchen. favorites are nekomata '97 and salmon cannon deluxe--i tend to listen to this album in like, airports and stuff or while cleaning? its such such a wall of catgirl-themed sound that its impossible to be anxious :P iron by woodkid: ok so i found this from the playlists for in stars and time that came out before release--specifically, the one for the king? (big villain who wants to freeze the kingdom in time forever) i havent listened to this since before finishing the game and man. listening to the lyrics with additional context is kinda crazy. anyways woodkid is apparently much better known for directing a bunch of music videos such as KATY PERRYS TEENAGE DREAM? but also makes 'chamber pop' which is when, uh, pop music incorporates a lot of classical instruments? anyways i have a lot of fondness for brass (synth or not) in pop music so this was nice <3 so melancholy… so winter…learning that this was also used for an assassins creed trailer did make me like it less unfortunately.
hey whats up. writing about stuff i read a while ago isnt as interesting huh… but i also feel the need to do things in chronological order… oh well :3 the semester starts for me very soon.. how scary. anyways if you finished reading thanks as always! dont forget to stretch your hamstrings. did you know that crab rangoon is named after the city of yangon in myanmar?

the point about throwaway terms is very fucking valid like i am fucking sick of seeing stuff about intrusive thoughts when it is just impulsive like intrusive thoughts are like "what if i poured boiling water on my cat" (not a literal example but that kind of thing) and they fucking suck and you feel horrific not just being silly and goofy
but i think the thing about gen z not being able to define itself it interesting as well because with social media there is no one thing you sit down as a generation and watch or take part in. there isnt really a top of the pops or a similar culturally defining piece of media other than say tiktok. but its also very easy to look at tiktok and see it as the face of gen z when i find most of the time it represents a small demographic of rich americans as opposed to the majority of gen z. like as a British person social media is very clearly dominated by americans
i also think there is something to be said about criticising gen z for being critical of older generations but consuming the media when we as a generation have been constantly harped on for being shit, have dealt with social media and being conscious of every political happening all at once from the age of 12, the housing crisis, brexit, the shortcomings of the education system, covid, and i could probably go on but all before even leaving school? and yet we are the generation that gets the piss taken out of us? like yes we fucking suck but also like come on. im not trying to say look at us we have it so hard because we didnt deal with world war two or the cold war or the 2008 financial crisis or 9/11 but we were also like 14 and witness to war nearly being started because of twitter and laying in bed at 15 watching black people being violently murdered and 16 trying to sleep after being told on the internet that if we dont post about everything happening ever you are a bad person, but our problem is not being able to define ourselves culturally? or trying to find an alternative to the present by looking back to the past that has been glorified by previous generations? like i dont think i can explain how mentally damaging waking up to find out that a bill allowing oil drilling in the arctic which will destroy the earth has been passed but still having to get up, go to school and pretend that fucking a levels matter before having any sort of life achievements is
sorry if this comes off as preachy but im just a little tired of older generations being seeming incapable of empathy sometimes - 🐸
No, you’re right! I mean, it’s very easy for us older folks who have done most of our growing up already to look back and say “they should be doing X or y” when….if that were true then we wouldn’t have “failed” before y’all even came along, haha. I think when we criticize gen z, there are two types of criticism:
1) where it’s just old people being afraid of change. Like, espcially socio-politically. It’s clear that the systems we have no HAVE FAILED CATASTROPHICALLY otherwise there wouldn’t be a recession, so much fascism etc. and it’s time for something radically different and older people don’t get the urgency of that as much as younger people do. Which is a cheap kind of criticism. Like, if you won’t support the kids then get the fuck out of their way. Cuz they’re gonna change the future with or without you. You’re just making it slower/harder for them.
2) criticism that recognizes some gen z movements as overcompensation or over correction of something that we ourselves have tried to fix before. It’s no huge secret that every generation develops its beliefs, aesthetic preferences, political ideals, etc in response to what came before it. Not just gen z. We millennials did it, too. And so did gen X and boomers…I think all the way back to at least the Reagan administration, here in the US anyways, things have been…on the downhill HAHA. and each generation tries to do something about. Then the next one comes along and is like “alright they tried X and failed, what if we try Y?” And sometimes we recognize the younger generations mistakes cuz we have made them, too and we just wanna be like “bro, no, no. Trust me. That’s not gonna work. You’ll see it when you’re older and you’re looking back at the generation after you too.” Those criticisms, I think, are fair. And might even help future kids if they listen.
But, at least for me, and I won’t speak for my entire generation or for those before me, my criticism doesn’t mean I don’t empathize. One of my fav Notes tracks is “People” purely because of the “stop fucking with the kids.” Young people have always been the face of change. They are usually the demographic that votes one party in and the other out. Conservatives always win only when they oppress the youth and appeal to the fear of old people. They’re on the edge of fashion, art, pop culture. So, I know better than to be dismissive of young people! Never! It’s just, sometimes I see the mistakes happening and I’m like “ohhh noooo stop before it’s too late” haha.

What was the last liquid that you choked on? Probably water a long time ago. I don’t choke on drinks that often.
How many times did you wake up today before actually getting up? I woke up immediately, I think. I didn’t want to spend the entire morning in bed since it’s my last vacation day before going back to work tomorrow.
What breed was the last dog you saw? Beagle and Yorkie. I was saying goodnight to the dogs.
When you sign your name do you use your middle name? I use my first name, middle initial, and surname. I used to omit my middle initial until one of my high school teachers talked about the significance of including it, like how it’s remembering your mom’s side and how it’s a part of you and all. For some reason that talk, which I’m sure was really just meant to be said in passing, struck me and since that day I’ve been including my initial. I legit remember that teacher every time I sign my whole name lol.
Do you dry off in the shower or out of the shower? I step out.
Describe the last place you went farther than one mile from your house? It’s my childhood home. One-storey house that’s part of a duplex, three bedrooms with an elevated kitchen, and the unofficial home to a number of stray cats as my grandma likes to leave leftovers for them.
Who did you celebrate your last birthday with? Family and closest friends. Do you have anything important to do today? I already want to do some pre-work prep tonight - crafting my to-do list, mapping out which deliveries to book, etc - so that I more or less have a game plan of how to divide and conquer the mountain of work I will inevitably be greeted with tomorrow. But we’ll see if I’ll actually have the energy to open my work laptop tonight hahaha.
Was your last kiss initiated by you or the other person? I’m not sure, it was over two years ago. Probably me as the other person was already checked out by that point, unbeknownst to me.
What appliance in your house had a light bulb burn out last? My rechargeable wall lamp. I know this doesn’t answer the question directly lol but whatever.
Do you buy a ton of things at the store at once or just for that day? We usually buy for like the next 2-3 weeks or so.
What did you last eat that required milk? Idk, do cronuts need milk? I had one just a few minutes ago.
What brand of clothing dominates your wardrobe? H&M.
When getting dressed do you put your pants or shirt on first? Shirt, since I usually tuck mine in.
What color was the last thing you ate? Golden brown, beige-ish, brown.
When you kiss a person where do your hands usually go? Cheek or hip.
When drinking hard alcohol do you take shots more or make mixed drinks? Mixed drinks. I’m rarely in the mood to take shots these days.
What is one song you listen to that you’re sure not many people do? Kyo181 by Silica Gel. To be fair, streams may have shot up after Namjoon posted it on his IG (and it’s also the reason I discovered the song haha), but I think the song may still be considered not too mainstream-ish.
Have you ever woken up next to someone after a night of drinking? Yep but it was always planned.
Have you wore shorts or pants more in the past seven days? Shorts.
Have you ever been told you’ve punched someone in your sleep? Nah.
Do you use a handrail on stairs if there is one? The pandemic has certainly influenced me to stop doing so.
What was the last thing you saw that made you smile? Run BTS.
What is your favorite drinking game? I don’t really have one.
Do you have any tattoos that you don’t like anymore? I don’t have any tattoos. What was the last thing you sat on? I’m currently sitting on my lounge chair. Before this, I was on my bed.
Who was the last person to sleep in your bed? Just me.
Do you have a shower curtain or door? We have a door, idk the material though. It’s like plastic but much harder?
When can you legally go to an American bar? Since 4 years ago.
If a bug is in your car, do you kill it or try to push it out your window? We try to shoo it out the window.
Does your mail go to a P.O Box or to a mailbox at your house? It just gets sent directly to our house. We don’t have a mailbox though, so delivery crew would just squeeze it through our screen door.
Is there laundry in your room that could be done? Nope.
Who was the last person from your high school graduating class you saw? Angela.
--
1.) What was the last strong scent you smelled? The liempo that my dad made for dinner.
2.) When was the last time you changed your outfit? Yesterday. I’ll be taking a shower tonight though; it’ll make me feel better and more refreshed for work tomorrow. I’ll be changing then.
3.) What did you buy the last time you went shopping for new clothes? I got this beige oversized shirt that reminded me so much of Namjoon so I didn’t think twice about getting it lol, even though I was at the store initially to just get clothes for Hans. I plan on getting more oversized stuff this year considering my style preferences have shifted to those instead! I hardly feel like wearing anything that’s currently in my closet anymore.
4.) What is your favorite meal of the day? Dinner because that’s the one full meal I have anyway.
5.) Do you typically eat breakfast or skip it? Skip it. I just make a cup of coffee.
6.) What was the last thing you took a picture of? My TV. I was watching Wrestlemania at the time.
7.) Do you have a collection of anything? Just K-pop merch.
8.) What was the last thing you threw away? A piece of bone I accidentally chewed.
9.) What is the cause of your current emotional state? I’m restless at the moment because I’ve got work tomorrow and I don’t feel like going baaaaaaaack. Like I know I’ll be fine once I get settled, but this period of knowing it’s coming but I can’t do anything for now is my least favorite.
10.) What were the last plans you made? How about cancelled? Last plan made was drinks with my aunt and uncles. Last cancelled plan would be the Christmas reunion with my college friends that we’ve been prompting for months and just never materialized lol.
11.) How did you discover your favorite band? Paramore was very popular when I was in Grade 3 and I just sort of joined the bandwagon and stayed in it this whole time.
12.) Does the weather affect your mood? If so, in what ways? Not usually. When it gets too hot I can get a bit short-tempered, but it’s not always.
13.) When are you most likely to be bored? During a power outage.
14.) What was the last big decision you made? Whether I should resign or see 2023 as a chance to continue fighting.
15.) Where was the last place you traveled to, and what did you do while there? I just went to my grandmother’s place to drop off my cousin. I didn’t get out of the car to greet anymore since I wanted to get back home immediately to continue resting.
16.) What is your favorite thing to go shopping for? Christmas gifts.
17.) How organized are you? It’s almost a hobby.
18.) What were the positives and negatives of your last week? Positives would be meeting the cutest aspin at my dad’s relative’s place during a family reunion. I legit skipped out on much of the party just to hang out with the dog who was as sweet and affectionate as it gets, lol. And getting my loft bed done!
A big negative is what happened to one of the food trays I ordered, supposedly for media noche. It was a bad combination of awful packaging and rowdy driving of the delivery rider, which led to ALL the sauce in one of the beef dishes I got completely spilling during the ride :( It was the most expensive thing I got so it really upset me; but fortunately the now-sauceless-dish still tasted fine.
19.) If applicable, how did you decide what you wanted to study in college/university? I liked to write and had always enjoyed watching news documentaries, cementing what I thought was an interest in journalism.
20.) What was the last thing you received in the mail? It was a bunch of BTS merch that got shipped to me at once - Jungkook’s photofolio, the Speak Yourself: The Final DVD, and The Astronaut set.
21.) What is one of your wildest dreams or ambitions? Owning a business. 22.) When was the last time you performed in front of a group of people? I got pulled into an impromptu, last-minute hosting gig for a recent PR event.
23.) Who was the last person to upset you? How about the last person to cheer you up? I got upset over a client who messaged today because it reminded me I go back to work tomorrow LOL. Last person to make me happy was my dad for his work on my new loft bed.
24.) Is there anything or anyone you’re trying to get over or let go of? No.
25.) What was the subject of your last phone conversation? It was just my mom asking if it would be more practical to order from Grab or just go to the actual restaurant and get takeout for NYE dinner preps.
26.) What are your plans for tomorrow? How about the weekend? Tomorrow I’ll be working. This weekend we’re going to Tanay for a vacation.
27.) When was the last time you were sick? May 2020.
28.) How close do you have to be with someone before you’ll consider them a friend? I guess when we can start jokingly hurling insults at each other.
29.) What did the last jacket you wore look like? It’s a black cardigan.
30.) Name five things you can grab from where you’re sitting. Koya plushie, Tata plushie, blanket, vape pen, phone.

BnHA Chapter 309: Gotta Go My Own Way
Previously on BnHA: Muscular was all “well if it isn’t the protagonist on his solo journey of self-discovery, for some reason I’m unironically glad I get to fight you!” Deku was all “hey Muscular before I finish kicking your ass would you please take a moment to answer these two survey questions? Question one, do you regret being a total piece of shit? And question two, if you could do anything at all in the world other than being a total piece of shit, would you?” Muscular was all, “pfft, no and no.” Deku was all, “thanks buddy, your feedback helps make me a better hero, here’s a coupon for fifteen percent off your next ass-whooping.” Then he whooped his ass.
Today on BnHA: Deku is all “what up All Might can you believe you’ve been here this entire time?” All Might is all “I sure can since that’s literally my catch phrase, anyway how are your magic movie 1 gauntlets holding up?” Deku is all “they’re holding up fine, how are Hawks, Endeavor, and Best Jeanist doing?” Hawks, Endeavor, and Best Jeanist are all “we, your fellow co-conspirators, are also doing fine, thanks for asking!” Flashback!Deku is all “anyway so I secretly have All Might’s quirk and the most dangerous people in the world are after me, so sorry mom but that’s why I’m dropping out of school.” Inko is all “I CAN’T ACCEPT THAT” while totally accepting it. All Might is all “I GUESS WE’LL JUST HAVE TO GO ALONG WITH IT SINCE I DON’T FEEL LIKE TRYING TO STOP HIM.” Hawks, Jeanist, and Endeavor, as previously mentioned, are all “yeah that sounds like a good plan”, and Gran is all “see ya kid, don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.” So basically everyone in the entire world has suddenly teamed up with Deku to defeat AFO, except for the one person whose entire foreshadowed endgame is “teaming up with Deku to defeat AFO.” O Kacchan where art thou.
dear tumblr image limit: okay look. you don’t like me, and I don’t like you. but just as an experiment, I’m gonna try writing this recap with as few images as possible and we’ll see how it goes
(ETA: spoilers for how it went: it didn’t, lol.)
oh my god WHY ARE WE OPENING WITH MORE KETSUBUTSU ACADEMY KIDS.ffs we’d better at least finally get some Ms. Joke content out of this
(ETA: seriously who do I have to bribe.)
so these two KB kids who no one cares about are watching Deku leap away from the scene after dispatching Muscular. but more importantly wtf is this chapter title omg. “I can’t stay being a child” so that’s how it is huh. we’re gonna have feels and we’re going to like them. well then
oh my god he’s hauling Muscular away dhfksklfkh okay this is gonna have to be our first image because I can’t fucking help myself. look at this
Tumblr media
just. Deku is so tiny and he’s carting away this massive unconscious lump of a man like it’s nothing why is this so funny to me. it’s like when people buy furniture, and they don’t want to pay extra for delivery and so they’re like, “I can definitely fit this king-sized mattress in the back of my compact sedan if I fold the fucking seat down, idk.” and they refuse to be talked out of it, and the next thing you know you’re watching them drive home with their open trunk door haphazardly tied down with bungee cords, and somehow it fucking works. because it turns out the compact sedan has super strength
anyway for SOME REASON now Horikoshi is all “have fun with that Deku, meanwhile we now return you to your regularly scheduled SHINDOU CONTENT” whyyyyyy
look at this. we’re really using up a whole fucking entire page on everyone arguing over who gets the honor of carrying Shindou
Tumblr media
love how the civilians are all, “shit lol is this actually our fault?? quick, how do we play this off all casual like we were the reasonable parties here all along”
turns out all it took to finally get them to listen was making them watch while a kid got his insides ground into a pulp because of their stupidity!! what a heartwarming conclusion to this little standoff
anyways THANK GOD we’re cutting back to Deku now!! well actually we’re cutting back to Muscular who is being dropped off at the police precinct, good bye and good riddance lol
so Deku’s leaving him there and bounding away and okjdlSKFJLKJDSL OH MY GOD
Tumblr media
no fucking way. no fucking way this little jaunt is All Might-sanctioned and approved. are you serious?? then who else is in on this?? what the hell is going on
so All Might is just WAITING FOR HIM IN AN ALLEY FFF WHO ARE YOU, JIM GORDON. or would Alfred be a better analogy here?? but like, Alfred if he ditched the suit for a moto jacket and shades
Tumblr media
this new ensemble of All Might’s may or may not severely impact my ability to take this forthcoming conversation seriously; please stand by
also, quite the spectacular landing there, Deku. seriously lol what was that
“HOW ARE YOUR LIMBS” “THANKS TO YOU THEY’RE COMPLETELY FINE” I’M SORRY WHAT
LOL WHAT. “THANKS TO THE POWER OF THESE MAGIC GLOVES” OH I SEE THAT EXPLAINS IT
Tumblr media
are these the same gauntlets from the first movie, then? well that’s all well and good, except that now there’s going to be more Deku Discourse than fucking ever lol. so if it’s all the same to you guys, I’m gonna once again go ahead and declare this week’s post a discourse-free zone, at least when it comes to the specific discourse of Deku’s merits as a MC, and the impact that him kicking ass and having working arms has on said merits. this has been something of a low mental energy week for me, so I’d rather reserve the energy I do have for more fun topics, such as All Might’s bitchin’ leather jacket
anyway so All Might’s saying that the gauntlets will help reinforce Deku’s arms, but they can’t withstand OFA at 100%. so basically it’s a support item designed to maintain the status quo lol. we’re basically in the same situation we were before, arm-capability-wise
homg All Might’s getting a call. time to see who else is in on Operation: Deku Alone?? or not so alone for that matter
omg
Tumblr media
HI HAWKS, WHERE ARE YOUR WINGS
(ETA: seriously are they really gone for good?? why would he even be back on active duty then?? does he have his own American ex-boyfriend who can hook him up with exclusive support items?? dammit Horikoshi we want answers.)
looks like Jeanist and Endeavor are teaming up as well, just like they said they would. I would gladly follow this trio around all day long tbh
is this the same giant villain from the very first chapter??
Tumblr media
looks like it to me, and it would tie in with that callback from the end of chapter 306. we all thought that was Muscular, but maybe it was this guy, and Deku left these three to deal with him while he ran off to take Muscular down
oh my god now Deku is running off again just like that
Tumblr media
kids these days
ffffff I have not had nearly enough sleep to follow along with whatever tf Hawks is talking about here sob

like, is he trying to say that All Might is keeping Deku’s whereabouts unknown to anyone except for him?? in order to keep him safe?? but Hawks is pointing out that that’s a bad strategy and probably won’t do shit against AFO and it’s better if he lets Deku work with the rest of them?
(ETA: so @hanashimas’ translation makes a lot more sense -- it’s not All Might who’s being overprotective, but Deku. in other words he’s trying not to drag All Might into his battles. and in addition Hawks is saying that their strategy is to take the offensive and go after AFO themselves rather than wait for him to come to them. which I’m not too sure about myself, but that’s another topic for another day.)
btw I can’t help thinking how much better this entire conversation would be if All Might was still wearing his sunglasses. put them back on my dude. it’s not too late. embrace your inner badass
DKLJSLDKFJL FLASHBACK ALERT, FUCKING FINALLY
Tumblr media
“turns out, we were just trying to scare you straight. fuck lot of good that did though lol”
also what is this. one true love: the hospital bed. is that a scanlator joke or is Horikoshi actually that funny omg
SKLJDFLJLK
Tumblr media
ITSA ME!! omg I love this hospital so much. though it’s sure not helping me in my quest to try and keep this post below ten images. I’m already up to eleven haha r.i.p. to me if tumblr doesn’t get its shit together
whaaaaaat, so he’s saying that Deku’s injuries were external (i.e. Tomura beating the shit out of him) rather than internal this time?? whaaaaat. excuse me but that’s some bullshit lmao. believe me, I was there
okay now he’s going on to explain that Deku’s “internal structure” seems to have been protected from the inside and out, and the corresponding panel seems to be implying that using Blackwhip as a brace paid off. huh
and also that his body is just stronger now?? so I guess he’s better able to withstand the quirk after an additional year of training?? I’M NOT SURE IF I BUY ANY OF THIS LOL but I’m willing to suspend my disbelief
OH MY GOD RED ALERT, INKO IS ASKING ALL MIGHT TO EXPLAIN WTAF DEKU’S QUIRK IS, IS IT FINALLY THAT TIME OMGGGG
SO HE’S EXPLAINING IT TO HER OFF-SCREEN, AND INKO IS JUST LIKE
Tumblr media
I GUESS THAT’S FAIR LOL. IT’S TRUE INKO I’M SO SORRY, YOUR SON IS A PROGATONIST R.I.P.
AHHKKJH DEKU ANGST IS IT FINALLY THAT TIME OMGGGGGG
Tumblr media
what is this soft pop beat that’s suddenly being pumped in over the speakers. I’VE GOT TO MOVE ON~ AND BE WHO~ I~ AM~~~, I JUST DON’T BELONG HERE, I HOPE YOU UNDERSTAAAAAAAND. also, follow-up question, when is Kacchan finally going to come back so he can jump in with the “WHAT ABOUT US~~~” bridge, huh. come the fuck on, Horikoshi
lmao All Might jesus christ
Tumblr media
but given that it’s a stupid-ass decision...
anyway, yes!! finally that sweet, sweet “I don’t want to put anyone else in danger” angst!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
mmm that’s good angst Brent. Kacchan with center panel honors as usual, you love to see it. anyways though who do I have to yell at to get Deku a goddamn HUG around here seriously
so Inko is of course reacting with panic, and sensibly saying that she doesn’t approve of Deku’s “RUN AWAY AND FIGHT THE BAD GUYS ALL ON MY OWN, DON’T WORRY MOM I’LL JUST GET STRONGER, EASY AS PIE, IT’S A FOOLPROOF STRATEGY” plan
son of a bitch this manipulative green asshole is really gonna sit here and smile fondly at his mom and try to convince her that he’s Not A Little Kid Anymore. the hell you’re not mister
y'all are really just gonna sit there and let him talk you into this?? surely it can’t be that easy??
OH MY GOD
Tumblr media
THE FEELS oh my god oh my god. BUT ALSO YOU’RE SERIOUSLY JUST GOING TO COLLAPSE INTO HIS ARMS SOBBING AND LET HIM DO WHATEVER THE FUCK HE WANTS LKJLJLFK. WHERE ARE ALL THE STRICT PARENTS AT?? AIZAWA, GANG ORCA, MITSUKI, SOMEONE PLEASE COME AND TELL DEKU TO SIT HIS ASS THE FUCK DOWN. NOW LISTEN HERE YOUNG MAN!!
“EVEN IF I TRY TO STOP YOU YOU’LL STILL LEAVE” WELL SURE, IF BY “TRY TO STOP HIM” YOU MEAN POLITELY TRY TO TALK HIM OUT OF IT FOR THREE SECONDS. HE’S SIXTEEN WTF WHEN DID HE BECOME THE BOSS OF YOU ALL. SOMEONE NEEDS TO COME AND TELL HIM HE’S GROUNDED
anyway sob so that’s the story of how Deku talked his parents into letting him drop out of school, and even convinced All Might to be his own personal Guy In The Chair. holy shit. this kid really went and rolled a nat 20 and the rest of them had no choice but to fold without argument
meanwhile here’s a panel of Best Jeanist trying to braid his phone into his hair just cuz
Tumblr media
I’m dying to know which part of his language he considers to be crude here. you literally didn’t even use a contraction my guy
so now flashback!Deku is talking to Gran in the dark, and Gran is all “can you believe I’m not fucking dead yet lol that’s too funny. anyway, you sure I can’t interest you in killing Tomura after all?? no?? okay then here’s my cape.” truly a heartwarming scene
Tumblr media
I’m kind of torn here tbh. on the one hand, my adhd ass wasn’t all that interested in sitting down and having an extended scene between these two when there’s so much else that I want to get to. but on the other hand, even I can admit that cramming this entire reunion into a single page seems just a BIT rushed. idk. like maybe someone can let Horikoshi know it’s a marathon and not a race. Deku didn’t even get any dialogue here, some of us want to know his thoughts!! but anyway
AND JUST LIKE THAT?!
Tumblr media
how did all four of them let him con them into this. I literally just watched it happen and I still can’t figure out how. “I GUESS THIS SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD HIGH SCHOOL DROPOUT IS OUR LEADER NOW” ffflfjf. when Aizawa finds out he’s gonna go apeshit. AND DON’T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON BAKUGOU KATSUKI, WHO I HAVE BEEN ASSURED DOES IN FACT STILL EXIST. WHAT ABOUT USSSSS, WHAT ABOUT EVERYTHING WE’VE BEEN THROUGH. WHAT ABOUT TRUST???! YOU KNOW I NEVER WANTED TO HURT YOUUUUU
btw lol don’t get me wrong, I am enjoying this, and I’m honestly glad Deku’s not alone because that would suck for him! but that said, Hawks and Jeanist have lost any credibility they might have once had as far as being The Responsible Ones, and as for All Might and Endeavor, fucking hell lol. everyone just deposited all of their fucks in a bank somewhere for safekeeping and decided to never look back. godspeed you mad lads

Heya! I’ve been reading thru your hcs and drabbles recently and I have to ask — what’s ur opinion on Mattie as a character and Canada as a country? What makes you like him? I’m assuming ur British and I’ve always been curious ab this, because I ain’t sure if most Brits are like States and just think of Canada as the US’s hat or not at all thanks! <3
The short answer is:
I love him
I love him so much that I have a longer answer bubbling away that I can’t help but spill at you.
What’s your opinion on Mattie as a character?
Jesus, where do I begin with this utter butter bean.
I suppose I fell deeply, deeply in love with him as this world-weary, steadfast and loyal guy, someone who is so very hardworking but not arrogant about it (and is generally unaware of it). He’ll do all that is asked of him and more, and work himself to the bone but not one word of complaint or boast will pass his lips. Matthew wants recognition from Arthur and his family, Matthew wants to be seen and understood as someone to depend on and trust, but Matthew doesn’t demand it. He doesn’t think of this in a selfish way, or in a ‘how can I advance in X’s esteem’ sort of way, Matthew does his best and goes above and beyond what is required because that’s just what he considers to be the necessary. What is obvious.
Arthur wants him to guard a fort? Of course, and he’s noticed that the battements are kinda shoddy so he’ll just set some people to work on that. He’ll pitch in too himself, of course, because the work will get done faster. He won’t tell Arthur what he’s done because he won’t expect praise for it- it just made sense. Why wouldn’t he do it? He can’t guard a fort if the fort has a weakness, after all.
I love Matthew because he’s a large presence who sees himself as small, someone who tries to fit an ideal of what people want from him without realising he already fit the ideal long long ago. For me, this does tend to be a toxic trait of his, he’s far too willing to give himself away, to neglect himself and his wants for people who probably don’t deserve it, and it’s all rooted down to a fear of abandonment that has slowly trickled and bled through to colour his personality.
As a character to write he’s a dream boat- he’s a wonderful counter to Alfred, something soothing and calm to contrast against the energetic storm. For a long time, Matthew was the model son Arthur wanted but Arthur was too busy mourning the loss of Alfred to notice and Matthew was too empathetic and selfless to demand that recognition or push for Arthur to acknowledge his shitty behaviour. Nowadays, Arthur understands what he took for granted- he’s calmed down over the years and has realised what an absolute diamond he’s had right next to him all this time but Matthew still doesn’t have the self-confidence to claim that view himself. Their relationship is something I love to read and write about and it’s a very complex web to dig into- something that just isn’t done enough!
I could go into far more detail but this is getting l o n g so I shall contain myself and answer your second question.
What do you think about Canada as a country?
So, this opinion is heavily biased. A few years ago I had the amazing opportunity to live in Canada for a year and ended up in a town in Quebec, close to Ottawa. I spent a whole year bouncing about the Eastern side of Canada and I can say, with a hand on my craggy old heart, that Canada is an utterly beautiful place. Quebeckers are an honest to God hoot (Quebec French for me is my utter favourite- sounds like a rough and tumble friend), and are so warm and welcoming once you get to know them. I met a few dry eggs, as you do in every country, but overall Canadian people (Quebeckers and Ontarians, at least) are utterly fantastic.
I will say that this fond regard was no doubt helped by the fact that I felt like a mini celebrity out there (I am British lol). British people are like rare mythical animals, especially in Quebec, and telling people I went there specifically to learn French instantly gave me bonus points. Outside of the capital, people stopped me in the middle of the street, in banks, and in Timmy’s to tell me that they loved how I sounded and a year of that will really go to your head and your heart, I cannot lie.
Country wise, British people are very fond of Canada, overall. We see Canadians as fellow followers of politeness and etiquette, and we very much appreciate your reliable and sturdy presence throughout history. Our media is blasted with a lot of American news, TV, history, slang, and culture, so Canada doesn’t have as much of an impact here as it should. But British people overall regard Canada fondly with quiet joy and I have never met a person who has a bad opinion of either the place or the people.
Again, I could go on about the country, the people, and the culture, but I shall refrain myself before things turn too soppy haha
You did remind me that I haven’t posted anything I’ve written about Canada yet on this Tumblr- this shall be fixed!
Thanks for the ask! <3
