I’m banging my fists against a table, I demand to know! I can’t live without no longer!

I need to know what more ideas you have for the Nightmare before Christmas thing. Like, where is Santa? Does the headmaster just, has access to a torture room and a dungeon? Why is it Halloween themed, besides the obvious, I mean more like why in the context of that world.

Do they study the darkest arts and more forbidden crafts, or are they a normal college?

Who let a bug in human skin suit be the headmaster? WHO??

Do they kidnap people on the regular or was it just that time with the NRC gang?

Oookay! (rubs hands together)

Santa I'm honestly not too sure about, since Christmas seems nonexistent in TWST but we'll dip our toe a bit into that later

Headmage Ivory Roach is an unhinged bastard and has mad scientist vibes so...yeah, under the school is his fear dungeon where he mostly hones his magic and does Headmage things, until the plot hits, that is.

Hallow University was initially named because of its dark and spooky-looking aesthetic, BUT they were the first school to really lean into the Halloween celebration and make it the popular school activity it is today (heck we could probably even say Hallow U was the creator behind Halloween traditions in TWST if we make the school super old)

Hallow U dabbles in pretty usual classes like history, potions, etc, but I'd say most of their magical talent would lie in void magic and maybe even illusions since they've always been the Spooky School and they put ALL their work into their Halloween celebrations

Let's be real, if the school board let CROWLEY be the headmage of NRC, it's not too big a stretch to think Ivory Roach managed to snag the job

And if you look at my initial post again, yes, NRC WAS a one-time thing for the kidnapping. Hallow U used to be THE place to go on Halloween. But for whatever reason, they don't have what NRC has an abundance of: Ghosts. So once that started, NRC basically stole all the clout from HU and they're slowly being forgotten. (That and I'm debating Ivory Roach having some kind of beef with Crowley). So the plan: kidnap and murder the best students at NRC and make their rep plummet for revenge cause we're gonna drag you down into obscurity with us. That makes it all the more important when Jack Kingsley becomes Headmage and decides on the Christmas angle (either on his own or Disney Yuu would plant the idea in his head) to spice the holiday up and create a unique experience that would bring back their popularity, like how the Haunted Mansion gets its Nightmare Before Christmas makeover every year. I know that kinda clashes with what I said above about Christmas not existing but the basic gist is 'Halloween is spooky, so what if we took spooky and also made it more bright and wacky by combining it with happy imagery?' aka Christmas without being Christmas

Anyway, I hope that cleared some things up!

My months of rest and reaxation // day 2

The fact that I'll actually be free for a few months has not settled yet in my mind. Today was pretty chill, and I am mostly trying to rest and just do nothing since it's been a very long time since I last did it. Yesterday my supervisor answered to my email, and I was very happy with what she told me, and today she also shared with me the news of a new seminar there'll be that links witch hunts documents to theatre. I have yet to decided whether or not I want to send an application for it, the historical document side of it is everything I could ask for, but the theatre reading part of things is terrifying to me. I hate reading outloud, there's nothing that would make me more uncomfortable than performance related things, and although the class would be pretty small I am not sure I'd have the guts to attend, so I'll think about it for a couple of days. Today I also got some of the books I ordered yesterday, which is insane cause they should have been sent next week, but I am really happy most of them aer here. Having these new books sparked an idea, and I decided to create a small tbr shelf in my bedroom, so I piled a few books I'd like to read in these couple of months and put them right next to my bed where they'll stay until I have read them (or until I'll redecorate) when they'll go back in my study.

Productive things I did today:

answered some emails

ran some errands with my dad

cleaned and re-organized the shelves beside my bed and created my new tbr shelf (I have been wanting to re-organize this part of my bedroom for months, and I am really happy with how it turned out)

started writing a couple of posts for this blog

continued re-listening to the magnus archives (I am about half way into the second season, and the podcast worked wonders as I was cleaning to keep me company)

practiced Irish on duolingo

Self care things I did today:

did not set an alarm

re-organized my shelves (yes this counts both as productivity and self care, and I will list it in both sections)

journaled

Do you enjoy spooky season? What things do you like or dislike about it?

I do, here in Italy, at least where I live, halloween is not really that celebrated, and I personally celebrate it more as the turn of the season, but I like the general vibe of this period of time. Autumn is my favourite season, and it's the best thing to get cozy under a blanket to read an horror book while the leaves are falling outside.

In honor of spooky season, sweater weather, and all things autumn, I'm hosting my first writing challenge! I started writing nearly a year ago because I was inspired by the beauty of the season, and I thought why not organize something where others could join in and celebrate the many aspects that make this time the best.

For the challenge, I'd like you to incorporate some fall vibes and activities into a fic or moodboard. It can be anywhere from taking a stroll down a leafy street with your fictional fave, baking together, cozying up by the fire, wearing their flannel, visiting a pumpkin patch, or watching a scary movie; anything that reminds you of this enchanting time of year plus a little catch I’ll describe below 🍂🎃🧡

This writing challenge will open today and has no deadline.

Of the things I am into, a big on is Hammer Horror. Well, I say big, it's more that I am more into them than others. They got a critical re-evaluation as a teenager and there is a lot of value seen in their vibrant colors and moody atmosphere and so on but i am more into them than most people because most people don't know what Hammer Horror is. There are lots of reasons for this, I like the vibe, I like the low key spookiness and I love Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. But if I am being honest I was a child when I started and there is a thing called Hammer Glamour. It is in reference to the women in the movies and how they all sort of fit a type. That type included low cut tops. Anyway, as a youngster I was a fan of this, especially in the 70's when Hammer got extra sleazy with their lesbian vampire trilogy but that's not what this post is about. This post is about Valerie Leon who is very charming on screen and stared in Blood from the Mummy's Tomb, her only real staring role in a career full of villains and bit parts. This is because while I find her to be quite a compelling screen presence, she was almost 6 feet tall and that made her too tall to be a leading lady as it would diminish the leading men. Sorta shitty but… well, we all know how it works. Veronica Lake was paired with Alan Ladd so he wouldn't look short as well. I watch her movie every few years cause I like it but also I like her and feel like she should be more celebrated. And let's be honest, she is 6 feet tall and absolutely stacked with Hammer Glamour, which doesn't hurt. Today I want to fuck Valerie Leon.

oh boy is today ever your lucky day! @deadcellsman I get to tell someone about my very favorite topic. Let me grab my notes. Actually it might be easier to post a screenshot of the rambles first AND then go off on them.

Maybe two years ago? Right around the start of the pandemic, I stumbled into a WEIRD part of the internet. Lots of dead forums and ancient FAQs and a mostly abandoned discord server about a game that MAYBE doesn't exist? Full of contradictory claims about things this game had, and REALLY anachronistic ones too (come on I'm not gonna believe rpg elements were in a game that was a CONTEMPORARY of PONG) Lots of infighting among fans about whether a copy that surfaces is "real" or not, or if its corrupted in some way by fans adding their own content in, or taking liberties with translation, that sort of thing. APPARENTLY its a meme in the fandom for things to just suddenly vanish on you ,because next thing I know me and a few fans I managed to get in contact with were scrambling to collect as much as we could as forums and discords servers just up and left. '

today ive been listening to spooky podcasts to celebrate it being october! ive tried out lore by aaron mahnke and nighty night with rabia chaudry and theyre good but not quite the vibe im looking for. im hoping to find some in depth historical spooky stuff but the one is kinda brief and the other is fictional so im probably gonna come back to them some other time.

as for music ive been listening to the hollow knight soundtrack and a bunch of piano music. brian crain, philip westley, etc. i also listened to a bunch of 40s swing instrumentals the other day because i was trying to find a song that i remember hearing when i was a kid (turns out it was in the mood by glen miller)

Good Morning! Happy start of the week!

September is almost over! But also spookiest month is coming! :D I was always sad as a kid that my country wasn't celebrating Halloween. Now kids do it more often while boomer parents yap how this isn't Bulgarian/Orthodox Christian holiday or something... Ya all need to leave the kids have fun and do kids things and enjoy being spooky and getting candy! I love preparing candy for trick or treaters!

I'm glad kids are having more fun and my generation seems more chill about these things.

October, october, october~!! I look forward to binge watching spooky movies, spooky series, bake cinnamon rolls, start inktober and agonize as I fall behind it ... :D;;; Speaking of, with how October tends to be, I may skip a chapter update at some point of my "The Snake, The Firebrand and The King of All" comic (update later today btw! Please look forward to it!). I think I'm keeping a good pace so far. I just know October gets crazy at work and between that and attempting Inktober, on top of... attempting to juggle FanFyria updates too... it may get crazy! In all these Halloween events, there's obvious jokes that we all know to expect. Typical spooky music from video games, Five Nights at Freddy's the 8-BIt Beast, horror media, David S. Pumpkins, and so on and so forth. The events aren't always quite so all-encapsulating as to *only* be spooky-themed rips, but broadly speaking you know what to expect - the kind of rips I've posted in the last few days, that is. But amidst all of this, some rips get rather creative in the ways they celebrate the Season. And yes, I do know how ironic it is for me to be praising creativity when I'm here making my fourth post covering a Stickerbush Symphony rip, after Satinpanties Symphony, Stickerbrush State of Mind and Bramble Blast Collab. Look - they're all too good not to talk about, okay?

Sidelined Symphony falls in line with the many other excellent lo-fi rap mashups done by ripper l4ureleye, yet upon playing you'll no doubt recognize the man behind the vocal performance. Early in 2018, as Season 3 was just getting into gear, a very peculiar meme started circulating all around the internet - that of Burger King Foot Lettuce. It was borderline inescapable during the time, all thanks to the bizarrely straight-faced narration of such a ridiculous story by content creator Chills. The guy is seemingly very well off, with his own channel sitting above six million subscribers, and the channel he narrated the video for being similarly well off, yet...there's no doubt that being the target of a large-scale meme basically just about making fun of his voice likely got to him, mentally.

I can't speak to anything concrete about the situation, granted, other than that it seems like Chills is taking it well nowadays (and maybe always was) and is even embracing it through things like his cameo on Smiling Friends. Althesame, when August rolled around later in the same year, Chills released his first venture into music with Sidelined, a rather melancholic and openly emotional rap tune. With lyrics like "Been trying to get away for some time - part ways with the life I chose" - it gives the feeling that Chills was rather conflicted about the situation he was in.

All of that is to say, that seeing Chills' top comment in Sidelined Symphony's YouTube upload, thanking the SiIvaGunner team for the arrangement...it really warms my heart, and feels almost like a reconciliation. Even if there wasn't ever any true bad blood between Chills and the memes made of him, the rip serves as a reminder to us viewers that the guy is MORE than a walking meme - that he's an actual creative, a human being worth loving and cherishing. And that's easier to do than ever through the rip - Bramble Blast's emotionally poignant instrumentation and progression lends itself incredibly to the raw honesty of rap lyrics as the aforementioned Stickerbrush State of Mind already demonstrated, yet its given an entirely unique vibe in Sidelined Symphony thanks to all the other tweaks made to it. The lowered pitch of the original song, the sound effect samples from Super Smash Bros. Melee and Brawl, and the way the song knows when to let Sidelined take more emphasis in the song during the midway point of the rip.

It all comes together to a rip that's absolutely swirling with emotions in so many ways, and in so many directions - empathy and respect for Chills, nostalgia for Super Smash Bros. Brawl and the SiIvaGunner channel itself, and utmost admiration for the rippers that continue to make such incredible music out of love for the internet. Sidelined Symphony is, beyond being one of my favorite rips to listen to, just one of my favorite rips for all that it stands for. Peace and love on planet earth. And foot lettuce from Burger King.

Last song: Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow by Amy Winehouse. The original Shirelles version is wonderful, but Amy's cover scratches the itch for me most days.

Favourite colour: I can't decide on just one 😭 I love dark green, or pale orange or deep purple. And blue! So many shades of blue are so stunning. I could stare at a color wheel all day long picking out my favourites.

Currently watching: a decade late to the hype, I'm finally dipping into the tv show Hannibal. I'm only one episode in, but I'm enjoying it!

Last movie: I rewatched Gone Girl at the weekend. In a strange way that I don't understand, it's a comfort watch for me? Maybe I just find Rosamund Pike's voice soothing lol.

Sweet/spicy/savoury: Savoury all day, any day!! (Though I have a sweet spot for ice cream of any kind)

Relationships status: single

Current obsession: the obligatory answer is succession, since I'll truly never get over that show. (Mourning the loss of the romencken National Anthem edit I saw once that I don't seem to be able to find again). A more minor obsession creeping in is Halloween in general. I'm a fan of the seasonal spooky vibes. Festive gourd season celebrations!

Last thing I googled: the definition of 'despotic' because it was in an article I was reading (it means, 'having unlimited power over other people, and often using it unfairly and cruelly', so I learned something new today!)
