Random question, Prince but do you think Victoria or Gerard had military backgrounds? Maybe serving themselves or had parents that served?
Tumblr media
I want to preface this answer with a caveat: this might be the most speculative meta I've ever written. While I'm going to try to draw as much evidence as I can from canon, I don't think it would be out-of-the question for people to disregard it on its surface merits.
So, here goes. I don't think that the Argents would join the military and they would strongly discourage their children from joining the military. I'm sure that during the time of the draft there might have been some Argents serving, but it would be under duress. If you accept the same head canon that I do, that Victoria was also from a hunting family, she would not be either. I think the reasons would be historical, practical, and philosophical.
Historical: Of all the characters in the Teen Wolf series, Marie-Jeanne Argent née Valet had the most emotionally true (if not entirely rational) reaction to the discovery that her beloved relative turned out to be one of the most prolific serial killers in that world let alone a terrifying demonic werewolf. As we see in The Maid of Gévaudan (5x18), she reacted with outright condemnation, hunting him down over three years and destroying all trace of him with a damnatio memoriae, which in reality meant destroying her own past, too. We can assume that the Argent Code was written by her, including the part where any hunter who was Bit by a werewolf had to kill themselves. This is extreme behavior (even if valid) and it is echoed in the revulsion non-corrupted Argents like Chris and Allison had when discovering Kate's and Gerard's crimes. It was certainly less permissive than the Hale family's tendency to react to deaths caused by their family which ranged from outright condoning ("But still beautiful, just like the rest of you") to dismissive (after all, how many people did kooky Uncle Petey kill, including the guy he shoved alive into a burning barrel, and still have the keys to the family home?).
Considering that Sebastian became a demon wolf while he was serving in the French king's war with England across an entire ocean in their respective colonies, I don't think it's a stretch for Marie-Jeanne in establishing her code to steer her descendants away from military service. It might even have been a requirement.
Practical: While both the military and hunters use weapons, military service wouldn't seem to bear much resemblance to hunter training. It appears to me to be much closer to espionage or criminal work. Hunting werewolves requires training in specific weapons (bows, tasers, and poisons), technology (hypersonic emitters), and techniques (torture, infiltration, intimidation, and cleaning up evidence). In addition, the soldiers of the Argent family exhibit a level of discernment when it comes to tactics and targets that the military simply would not tolerate. Chris points as much out to Kate in Code Breaker (1x12):
Chris: No one asked you to murder innocent people. There were children in that house, ones who were human. Look what you're doing now. You're holding a gun on a 16-year-old boy with no proof he spilled human blood.
Later on in Relics (6x04), Chris explains that he should have intervened when he saw how Gerard was training Kate. That implies to me that while Argent soldiers are supposed to follow the lead of the matriarch, they're also expected to do more than just follow orders. While civilization demands we hold individual military soldiers to answer for their conduct, I can tell you from personal experience that military training does not have a goal to instill a sense of individual agency.
Philosophical: In my encounters with real-life military people, it is my experience that they see themselves and the military as a whole as an immanent part of society itself. They enable civilization to exist; they uphold society's laws and mores as one of its pillars. I am sure that many people on this site would disagree with that assessment, but I'm talking about the perception within military culture itself. The military focus on being a vital part of their country, and when they err it is when they come to believe that they are the most important part and thus have a greater right to say how a country and a civilization will behave.
One of the things I've noticed about the Argents and the other hunting family feature, the Calaveras, is that they don't consider themselves part of the greater society. They see themselves as protecting it from monsters that the average person cannot comprehend, and while they certainly do infiltrate law enforcement and emergency services, they don't seek permanent authority over the mundane social institutions. This is one of the significant departures that marked Monroe as different from previous organized hunters, and one that made her more dangerous. Victoria, Araya, Chris and Allison (and when they weren't being selfishly corrupt, even Gerard and Kate) saw themselves as operating outside of it all as a necessity. They work with criminals like the yakuza; they hire mercenaries; and they understand that they will never be fully accepted.
Chris: We're gonna be pariahs in this town. Victoria: We can handle it.
Monroe, on the other hand, organized hunters to protect society, but she wanted to change society as well. She accused the werewolves not only of being monsters by virtue of their natures and by their acts, but by the power that privileged them ("No one should have this power"), and she accused people like Sheriff Stilinski of abetting that unfair advantage. (I will never forgive Teen Wolf for giving up on exploring that difference half-way through 6B.) Since Gerard was only interested in using Monroe, he didn't train to see herself the way he and his family saw themselves: protectors working from the outside.
All these things lead me to believe that the Argents wouldn't have military training, not even corrupt ones like Gerard or Victoria.

*Deep inhale*
So
Here's why YOU should read The Hollow Kingdom (and why it's cool if it's not your cup of tea)
1. Clare B. Dunkle is a sweetheart and trans-friendly! I've personally spoken to her via email and she made me cry, she's so nice.
2. Are you tired of goblins that are all little green one-note Jewish stereotypes? Tired of goblins that are evil, meant only to be killed? What if, instead, there's a fascinating and rich lore to them, and they're portrayed sympathetically (though by no means morally black and white, more on that later). Goblins in The Hollow Kingdom are diverse and they extravagant fashion. You want goblincore? Here's your goblincore.
3. Morally nuanced characters. Even the most vile of people can have some sympathetic qualities, and the even the kindest character can do something awful. Even my faves have made me seethe.
4. There's a catboy. Seylin my beloved. He carries the brain cell through the third book.
5. Maybe this one's just me projecting, but I think the Goblin King Marak is so, so autistic coded. He's honest, sometimes brutally. He doesn't understand a lot of human customs. He takes things literally. He has a strong sense of justice. He can be pretty emotionally dysregulated.
6. He's also a huge, sassy bitch and kind of an idiot, but that's just a personal preference.
7. Themes of misconception and villianization of other cultures/groups and finding common ground.
8. Fellow monsterfuckers, stop sleeping on this goldmine of simp material. There's even a sad emo elf dude in the third book. Not to my taste, but I'm sure there's plenty of people who would love him.
TW below for mentions of kidnapping:
NOW, there are very questionable relationship dynamics in these books, which I totally get might be a deal breaker. There's a lot of kidnapping women, huge age gaps, and a general lack of consent, though no explicit r*pe, thankfully. It's all still gross, and there's no situation in which kidnapping your wife is morally acceptable. Part of the reason I self-ship with the goblin King is because I'm an enthusiastically consenting party, unlike his canonical wife Kate. So yeah. You're so valid if this isn't cool.
I also understand that Goblins have an unfortunate historical link to antisemitism, which might make people turn off from the idea of them in fiction entirely. That is also valid. I personally think goblins *can* be handled well, going back to my earlier selling point. It's sad that a lack of antisemitic rhetoric is a selling point, but this is the world we live in, and I'll take what I can get. I still understand if you're not interested.
But if none of this turns you off, I'd highly recommend this series. No piece of fiction is perfect, but there's a lot of good here, and I think Tumblr could get a good deal of Fandom milage out of it if y'all gave it a look.

H'oooh boy. Tagged by the beloved @apomaro-mellow and feeling really inadequate about it. Lol
Rules: reveal the titles of the documents in your wip folder and tag as many people as there are documents. Let others ask questions about the ones that interest them and post snippets or explain the contents as you see fit!
Fair disclosure, I have not written much of anything in 5+ years and am now basically petrified of trying to get back into it (I know this is irrational, I'm just my own worst critic despite being very aware of how supportive the Steddie fandom is towards its creators).
That all being said, I have created two Google docs (one for each fandom/respective ship) that is a list of ideas I've thought of that I would write if I ever gathered the courage. Either that, or I'd give the idea to someone I think could handle it when they're up for it (such as @steddieas-shegoes, who is amazing and creative and so giving to the Steddie fandom in particular). The other main issue with my current writer status is that a lot of these are just summaries, no titles available... so I'll try my best to give them very succinct synopitles (name patent pending, lol).
Limiting this to Steddie/Stranger Things fandom ideas since I think that was the fandom those before me were tagged for.
we live, we (don't?) die

Stobin Paranoia/King Steve Resurgence(?) fic
Stobin myversionofSteve'sbipanic/awakening fic (lol, everbody gets one)

This isn't all of them but the last few I couldn't think of a simple explanation so I'm stopping here.
Um... Do I even know enough people to tag for this??
@kuriquinn @mintedwitcher @clementinecrane @cultofpokeshipping @rogueddie @ataliagold @penandinkprincess @steddiealltheway @piratefishmama @atmilliways
I'm so sorry that I tagged a few people who I've never interacted with. I hope I didn't cross any lines. I've read some of your stuff before and love it and. Yeah. Maybe this is an ice breaker tactic?? From a dumbass rabid fan???

Watching this 90s animated movie called The Princess and the Goblin, apparently an adaptation of a novel with the same name. I'm shocked by how good it is for a movie not made by one of the big animation studios at the time. It's got Tiny dog Hungarian animated movie quality of animation, so not the best of all time, but like I said I'm shocked by its level of competence.
The way the goblins are designed is really close to the way I want to simplify Underbed monster head and face anatomy for my more cartoony artistic abilities. You can really tell that the goblins and other creatures are what the animators really loved working on as that's when the animation really shines. They're way more expressive than the humans. I was unable to find a torrent and the YouTube upload I watched of it is in pretty low quality but I want to get a better view of how creature designs work in this at some point.
The story is basic but also pretty fucking good for random little 90s 2D animated movie.
Not familiar with the book though at all. So no telling how it works as an adaptation.
The one boy, named like Gurdie or something (lol) keeps getting up to cinematic platformer style escapades.
The movie also doesn't shy away from death and kill like some kids movies started doing in this decade. Like there's a scene where one of the goblins fucking whales on this kid. Hitting and kicking him and I'm like "wow they are really just showing a little boy getting beaten up huh?"
Interesting is there's some role reversal of cliches going on. The boy is held captive and has magical singing waiting to be rescued while the princess has the power to do shit. Which is neat.
The song the kid keeps singing is decent as well.
I can't tell how old the goblin prince is supposed to be but another bit of a trope reversal he's the one being forced into an advantageous marriage for the sake of politics by his parents. He has no actual interest in getting with the human princess. I'm assuming they're both around the same age because ultimately his mother is still calling all the shots. Interestingly is that the goblin prince wants to keep the boy who's being held captive. The mom then goes "no, wait until you marry the princess and then you can have as many humans as you want" so part of me is like "wait is the goblin prince gay coded?????" Near the end he jumps out and goes "I've come for my princess" but he immediately just manhandles Curdy instead. Like?????
I was hoping he'd have like a redemption or something. But no he fucking dies. He fucking falls to his death and that's it.
There's this plot where the goblin queen has more human-like feet and hides them and I'm wondering if she's a hybrid or something. These children sneak right into their bedroom and pretty much immediately the boy takes off her shoes lol. It's fucking wild. The nerve of this kid. Other than goblins being vulnerable on their feet this doesn't amount to anything.
I don't get why the boy is so skeptical about invisible magic grandma though. Like you're in a realm. There's goblins and you're like some sort of wizard bard. But the deal breaker is ghosts.
At the climax of the movie the princess' lady in waiting gets fucking piss drunk for whatever reason as this never really seemed to be her type of personality until now and of course that's when the goblins invade.
Also this boy finds himself in the armory and only grabs a sword, okay makes some sense. Armor is probably too heavy for him, but in the end the goblins are invulnerable except for their feet so the sword is completely useless and he's just wildly swinging it around which I find funny. It's like he was all "I have the opportunity to steal this sword" and just took it.
This movie also has "big fucking flood" just like Tiny dog movie and pretty much all the tropes that entails. Big fucking flood low budget 90s animated movie my beloved. Really like how the water is animated.
The goblin demon cat seemingly gets a redemption but not their child(?) prince.
I really liked this though. If I had grown up with it maybe I would have been autistic about it honestly.
The end credits have animations of the kitten character in pretty much the exact fucking way that the Vicious Servant shows up in the Heart of Darkness credits. Which made me lose my fucking mind
And then, while watching the credits
I see it
Pannonia film company.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT.
It is LITERALLY the same people who DID make Tiny dog movie????????????? The fucking screech that escaped my mouth.
So yeah my autism went insane from this. It's like if Tiny dog got an actual proper English dub. And the Mormons had nothing to do with it because there's a scene where good guys get drunk.
So yeah I do want to use some of the animation and character design of this as reference. I'm freaking out that it's the same animation studio as my beloved blorbo Tiny dog.

“ Overseer im pretty sure is not “ bring your granddaughter to work day despite you are here with her in a lab coat.”
You gave him a smirk as the overseer asked his “granddaughter” to wait for them in another room.
“ Joke aside (c/n) you think i didn’t notice? Theresa has been coming to this lab more than usual, aside her weapon or her injuries and you who happens to be the first person i show her to.”
The overseer give you the serious look while summoned out Judgment of  Shamash which is shifted by Void archives
“ Cool down Otto think the other way, that midget is been bothering me for the past months! Her Judah, the manga, Battlesuits, the problem with her height, and clinging on me whenever she gets the chance!”
You put your hands up try to calm the Overseer as he pointed the gun against your head.
That remind the Overseer the day he show Theresa to you and it only take few mins until the clone was clinging on you not wanted to go back and the comics or what you called the manga, Theresa’s bookcase is full of them Otto winced at the thought of manga letting the gun shift back and disappear in the air.

You pull out your lab card to the scanner with a bleep sound then the iron door open.

The scientist and the clone walked into the lab battlesuits in the transparent  containers, blue prints on the desk, some weird looking liquid in the tube, weird pink purple-ish liquid in some Beakers.

Jughead (2015), Issues 1-6: Discussion and Commentary
"I am like unto a god, Archie Andrews. Respect me as such."
Recently re-typed and ready to go, here is a broad discussion of the first volume of the Jughead reboot comic series. I was originally going to review each issue individually, but given that the first six comprise one story arc, I decided to do the whole volume in one go. That means this is a bit crunched for time and therefore not quite as in-depth as I wanted to go! But I encourage you to read the comics for yourself, if you are able.
This will not be spoiler-free, for the record! The images here are taken from my own copy using my phone, so they're not the best quality! But they also aren't especially crucial to this commentary, so you'll have to bear with me.
Tumblr media
I just really like the inside cover art for this volume, alright (it's also the cover of issue 5)? I can't help it, I'm aro, I see heart imagery and something in my brain goes haywire.
When we first meet Jughead at the beginning of Volume 1, he comes off as lazy and apathetic, at least on the surface. After an all-nighter of playing video games, Jughead is dragged to school by Archie. There, they find that Betty has started a new campaign to save Fox Forest, a beloved local greenspace that is being threatened by Veronica’s wealthy father, Mr. Lodge. Jughead is… not very interested in Betty’s cause, to put it politely. It’s not that he doesn’t care about Fox Forest, but he does not believe that Mr. Lodge would be convinced to change his mind by a petition. He tells Betty as such, and she remarks that he lives a very hollow life.
Tumblr media
“Man, you’re so cynical,” Archie tells him. “Is there anything you’d actually fight for?”
The answer is yes. What ultimately gets Jughead to fight for something? Food—well, kind of, but we’re getting ahead of ourselves.
When Archie and Jughead get to class, they learn that the principal of Riverdale High, Mr. Weatherbee, is being replaced out of the blue by a new guy called Stanger. Stanger is a stiff, serious type, and he immediately starts making changes: new uptight teachers, a strict dress code, new bootcamp-esque curriculum, and most importantly, supposedly nutritious slop to replace the food in the cafeteria.
This sends Jughead down a bit of a rebellious path—he’s not a rule-breaker, but he’s perfectly comfortable with bending the rules in his favor while narrowly skirting around getting into trouble. He starts selling burgers in the cafeteria, with the proceeds benefitting Betty’s fundraiser for Fox Forest.
Tumblr media
(Hell yeah, Jughead, unionize that student body! Sell those burgers! You have nothing to lose but your chains!)
This stunt gets Jughead on Stanger’s bad side immediately, and a slowly simmering feud between them ultimately boils over when Stanger plants a knife in Jughead’s backpack to get him expelled. Thankfully, his dad is able to talk his sentence down to a week’s suspension, but that doesn’t stop his friends (and his mother) from worrying about him.
As an aside, I’d like to take a moment to appreciate Mr. Jones.
Tumblr media
“Something’s off here and I’m not sure what it is, but I am sure Jughead didn’t bring a knife to school. My boy’s weird, but he’s not a criminal.”
I really like this line from him to Betty. He clearly knows his son and is willing to stand up for him, and it’s comforting to me, especially viewing the story through the lens of Jughead being aroace, that Mr. Jones is not at all bothered by his son being a bit on the strange side, as long as he’s still a good kid. Nothing but respect for Forsythe Jones II in this house.
Something fun and unique about this volume in particular is that in every issue, Jughead either falls asleep or passes out, and has an elaborate imaginative dream about the events of the story. In one he’s a pirate, for example, and in another he’s visited by a descendant of Archie’s from the future, who belongs to the time police. But towards the end of the volume, the line between these daydreams and reality seem to blur for Jughead. He comes to the conclusion in one particular nightmare that Stanger is trying to brainwash them all into becoming mindless agents for his evil organization—and then he realizes he may not be that far off from the truth.
Jughead brings this realization—that Stanger is using the school as a sort of training ground for secret agents—up to his friends, and understandably, they aren’t convinced. They worry that the compounded exhaustion of multiple all-nighters playing games and the stress of being suspended has started to get to Jughead, but he vows to prove it to them.
Tumblr media
I mean, damn, Betty, that kind of hurts. (Don’t worry, Betty is actually a good friend, as I’m sure we’ll get into later in the series.)
To make a long story short (and to avoid spoiling the entire plot for those who haven’t read it!), Jughead does find proof, and once he does, his friends are immediately on board. They are ultimately able to save the day, and once it’s revealed that Stanger and the new teachers are ex-CIA trying to brainwash the students (no, seriously), Mr. Weatherbee is re-instated as principal and things return to normal.
I’m leaving out a lot of nuanced details, mostly for the sake of time, but there are a lot of surprisingly weighty moments to this first arc, and Zdarsky’s character writing is incredibly endearing and funny, while still hitting the serious moments when it needs to. There’s an interesting underlying commentary in this arc about military recruitment and U.S. propaganda; Stanger says that he specifically chose Riverdale because the students are so average. There’s something to be said here about the way the military industrial complex preys on average or underprivileged teenagers to convince them to serve when they feel they have no better path to take. It’s an almost funnily serious commentary for Zdarsky to make with a seemingly silly and off-beat comic series, and I respect him for that.
Tumblr media
(If you recognize this panel, it’s because it appears on the page where Jughead’s asexuality is canonized. What a good page. So good that nobody ever points out this panel.)
By the end of Volume 1, we see that Jughead maybe isn’t as apathetic and careless as he seemed to be. Sure, he got up in arms about food of all things in the beginning, but it stopped being about food very quickly, once he realized that something truly messed up was going on. And it bothers him, deeply—at one point, the gravity of the situation begins to weigh on him so heavily that he nearly gives up entirely, convinced that there is nothing they can do and that they ought to just lie low until they make it out. But he does end up making things right, with the help of his friends, and in the end, he does decide to help Betty out after all. It’s the least he can do, really. You do get the impression that although Jughead’s friends often don’t take him seriously, they’ll always have his back when it counts—and he’ll do the same for them, even if he’ll insist on being a bit snarky about it.
Tumblr media
(That slightly cynical attitude is still there, though, and truthfully, Jughead wouldn’t be the same without it.)
To close out, I am just going to share some of my favorite panels/quotes that didn’t fit elsewhere, including some choice Aro Moods. I hope this (admittedly brief) discussion of Volume 1 convinces you to read the comics, and to join me again when I cover the next arc. Until then, cheers to Chip and Erica.
Tumblr media
Jughead’s attitude towards Archie’s romantic problems will never not be funny to me. He’s just like “RIP to you but I’m different.”
Tumblr media
Kevin. :/ Kevin come on, man. Mr. Zdarsky, sir, this is character assassination. (Jughead’s face in the corner is a reasonable reaction.)
Tumblr media
This one’s gone around so many times before (as have a bunch of other aro moments that I don’t think I need to bother re-posting here), but I just think it’s neat. Don’t worry, Betty lets go.
Tumblr media
Aaand lastly, I just really like this line from Jughead. “The world is out of our hands, pal. You just gotta make your own weird way in it.” That we do, Jughead. That we do.

@aforrestofstuff BEHOLD MY SCIENTIST. My very self indulgent and beloved scientist.
Tumblr media
Hes older than the last oc, i made him wayy before the other one
HERE WE HAVE: Dilf scientist. Thats it, nothing else.
He's easygoing and deals with most situations well, keeps his calm for the most part. Makes plenty of jokes. Generally a lighthearted guy you know? He's easy to talk to cause he's pretty chill. But hes still very, very smart, just cause hes casual doesn't mean he isnt a nerd. He just doesnt take everything way too seriously. Actually a lot of the time he is way too casual for the tone of the room. Hes got a moral code but will do some questionable things to achieve goals, like chaotic good or lawful neutral? sm like that.
And being a scientist he works with a lot of serious people and situations. He used to be a big scientist working with major government projects but that just became too much eventually and he left and does smaller things now. Hes still wealthy though, and definitely has connections. He was one of the guys to research powers figure out whats goin on w all that. He doesn't have any powers of his own and he does not want any, they seem like more of a curse than a gift to him with all of the defective powers and drawbacks but hey who else will research them? (Lots of people actually)
His relationship with his son is. fine. he hasn't always been emotionally present but he has tried his best to yknow, be there to help. Worries about Keo but doesn't really know how to help? He was definitely not that deranged at his age nosiree, but he just goes off and does whatever he wants to at this point and wont really listen. But hes still there for support if he ever needs it
He was a single father ynkow, and has an ex wife, Keo's mom. They divorced when Keo was a baby because uh. Things happened. They were scientist coworkers first which was the first mistake, second mistake is that they jumped the gun. And also she put a device in his brain which was really a deal breaker because usually you dont drug someone and install machinery onto their brain? Yeah so the device is kind of to feed information and commands into his brain, like having a voice in your head all the time. Its an AI and he doesn't know this but she still has a remote connection to the device. Ouchies. Not too fun. It actually troubles him on a daily basis. And also he has had to deal with lots of those feral and kind of fucked up scientists in his day and he is just DONE with them, he works solo now.
But other than that I'll talk about Luce here. Luce is like a former experiment kid that got adopted by Lan. Luce's power is to be powered by electricity instead of sleep. Doesn't make a lot of sense but its superpowers so whatever B). But Luce didn't have a way to get the electricity efficiently without like, touching bad outlets and crap. Which resulted in burns and general damage. So Lan and another scientist had to develop something to fix that and gave him cybernetics :)
Other stuff: He can actually cook well but doesn't v much anymore. He mostly cooks when theres people over. He likes the winter months the most. He likes to watch horror movies and point out inaccuracies in them.
Hes just a scientist father going through a midlife crisis! I care about him. There isnt as much information on the sketch page cause I forgot to put it on there lmao. This character is much more toned down than the last

She had waited until she was sure it was just the two of them before she hopped in the tub to rinse away her bad day at work
After walking through the lair to be greeted by her loving Turtle who understandingly hugged her up knowing she needed to de-stress offered for her to go take a relaxing bath that he so sweetly drew up for her
Once she had everything she needed he went to go back to what he was doing wanting her to take a load off her shoulders with the promise of couples time afterwards be it cuddles in the quiet of his room or on the couch watching her favorite movie
But as she got out the idea to tease him was just too hard to pass up
Tumblr media
Leonardo had seen how tired she was after her long shift she looked ready to drop right there but still had sweetly came to see him making his heart flutter for his loving mate to think of him when she should be home resting
After kissing her head telling her she needed to relax he sent her to the bath where all her stuff was one her special shelf he had made for when she needed anything or spent the night
While waiting for his beloved the leader had started his training working through the new kata his father had taught him both blades cutting through the air honed well in his skilled hands and his focus was purely on his lesson
For once the woman walking into the room didn’t register to him
At first!
“Leonardo~” her sweet voice calling out to him had him turning as a towel fell over his head lifting it to see his girl standing there completely bare and in every ounce of her glory – in the middle of the dojo
His face flushed to a darker green looking her up and down unable to speak as both swords dropping from his grasp to the ground as he took her in struggling to speak before his eyes darkened as he bit his lower lip smirking “Oh - it is so on love”
His approach was slow appreciating the beauty before him his hands already  unstrapping his belts and untying his pants letting his Geisha know her Sensei was coming into play once his hand rested against her neck lovingly and their bodies were pressed so sensually together as he closed the door with no hesitation
Tumblr media
Raphael chuckled once she was in the bathroom knowing she needed some time to just let it all melt off her shoulders wanting to be sweet to improve her day had went into the kitchen making her a snack, he placed it on the table with a note so when she was done it was right there for her
Still hearing nobody was home he had stepped off into his weight room to clean up from that morning after working out with his brother’s
All of them agreed to doing some weight training to make up for cutting practice short the day before and as much as he enjoyed his alone time he did find having his brothers to outdo always was fun
Just after wiping down the last bench and picking up all of Mikey’s candy wrappers the youngest had to of hid while taking his breaks so Leo wouldn’t see left the turtle grumbling over his knuckleheaded younger brother as his phone rang seeing it was Casey
The man was supposed to be meeting him tonight for patrols and he hoped he wasn’t calling to cancel again
Talking to his friend while he finished up made him unaware of the soft footsteps coming up behind him or the sweet voice that had called him twice before a wet towel landed over his head
A deep growl rumbled from him thinking Mikey was playing a prank on him again ready to cuss him out but when he turned around there stood his girl completely nude leaning against the frame water still dripping down her voluptuous curves as she dried her hair “What’s wrong big guy~? Am I interrupting?”
He was left completely speechless as she pushed off moving towards him slowly her small hips sashaying with every step as water dripped down her curves
“Holy f- Case… Yo  Jones I gotta go man”
He barely heard the man ask why he was letting him go so fast as Raph churred eyeing her hungrily when both small hands were grabbing his belt pulling him forward growling under his breath as that small pink tongue drifted over her bottom lip eyeing him with those come get me shimmering orbs
He was seconds from just jumping her there before hearing his friend again ask what the hell was going on “Yeah yeah call ya later imma bout ta lay some pipe”
The turtle lifted her into his arms getting an excited giggle as he carried he to his room mumbling as the phone dropped onto the bench
Part of him was hoping he figured out what was up and hung up soon otherwise he was going to hear some shit “Fuck yer so in for it baby!”
Tumblr media
He had gone down and actually made sure the was drawn for her getting everything she needed just wanting his queen to soak and relax before Donatello would be pampering her the rest of the night kissing her softly they leaving her to enjoy some music
He hadn’t meant to walk into the lab but his work phone going off made him step in
It was supposed to be his off day but the main operator requested his help given it was a difficult problem that had locked the other service workers out
The job was aimed towards his specialty in hacking computers and he couldn’t just say no; he took over the call after logging in to be sure he was getting paid for accepting the call going through all the normal introduction while trying to get in finding the woman on the phone had no clue what she was doing
It was a bit frustrating because every time he told her to do something she backed out and he had to restart from the beginning all over again and in his semi-calm droned out ‘bitch don’t push another button’ voice he was glad his family wasn’t home
He was wishing at that moment this had just been another female accidently mistaking the tech support for a sex operator hotline
In that time he also hadn’t heard the small footsteps coming towards him actually screaming as a wet cloth dropped over his head apologizing profusely to the woman as he turned then stopped letting the towel drop from his hand as his jaw almost ended up in his lap
There standing only feet away was his beautiful love in all her glory skin flushed from the long shower and steam rolling off her in the cool room as she grinned climbing into his lap as his breathing picked up hearing her whispering soft enough the person on the other line wouldn’t hear “Put it on mute or she’s going to get an earful genius”
He had to swallow a churr before snapping to attention when the female on his headset asked him if this would take much longer getting inpatient watching as his girl grinded their hips together
“M-My apologies ma’am just fixing a few things if you will there’s a box popping up on your screen please push accept as soon as it does”
He couldn’t think when she started undoing his pants already kissing and nipping at his neck whispering dirty needy things just to him as he started typing in several codes having to clear his throat as one hand shoved several things aside on his desk as the screen flashed up showing she had accepted
“And now I’m going to send you a waver – this will just allow me to have full access to your drive meaning I can take care for it without you having to do a single thing miss – yes ma’am that probably would have saved you time I do apologize for the inconvenience”
He almost swallowed his tongue as her hands wrapped around his already hard shaft stroking over him while nibbling at his weak spot slapping a hand over his mouth as she bit his neck hard making him throb pushing her back mouthing he was so going to get her before the woman asked if there was anything else
“Yes ma’am - please read it fully so you understand that this only give me the ability to go where the problems are and once you agree my computer will be linked to yours and I will fix the problem immediately – I will be putting you on hold while I fill out the correct paperwork and I’ll have this fixed in a jiff”
He barely heard her sigh and agree before the call was muted and he was out of his chair placing her on the desk fast “Wow maybe I should have just started riding my genius’s cock and seen how long you could last with her still on the call”
Shaking his head he chuckled already worshipping his queen unable to believe she had given him such a delicious surprise ready to take her there but needed to get her back for the teasing his fingers playing with the heated core yet never giving enough to make her cum getting her so needy she was begging for him to take her
With a feral growl he thrusted into her going so slow but burying every inch nice and deep inside her a shit eating grin lighting up his face “And waste getting to fuck around on the clock while being paid – no way”
Tumblr media
Figuring she was going to be a little bit Michelangelo had jumped back on his game with the boys wanting to play his COD game before he was totally focused on his girl’s needs knowing with enough begging he might be able to convince her to stay the night
An hour later he was trashing some guy with a major anger problem that sounded like he was punching walls, listening to some kid who wouldn’t stop screaming at an unbearable high pitch that kept claiming he had ‘slept with his entire squads mommas’ even though he didn’t sound old enough to be playing the game, and smack talking the other team through his mic as he racked up the kills having his fun sniping guys as they respawned
She had snuck into the living area hearing his evil laugh as somebody called him a dick after he shot them again
“Hey Mikey…” he waved her off at first shouting right back making her giggle at how serious he took his games before pulling her towel off tossing it over his head hearing him grumbling tossing the soaked cloth on the couch grabbing up his drink whimpering for her to give him ten more minutes “Mikey~ look baby I think you’ll like this~”
She let her hair down ruffling it knowing how weak it made him when it was down
“Baby I’m destroying this whiney little b-” with a bit of trouble he looked back for just a second before spitting out the mouthful of soda as the can caved in within his grasp sending his drink all over the floor his eyes going wide as she stepped between him and the screen playing innocent
The youngest turtle looked her up and down several times grinning widely as she fluffed her hair swaying her body sensually as her fingers teased him by touching her breast “If you are still too busy… I’ll just go play by myself in your room”
Shaking his head fast he started up out of his beanbag trying to grab her but actually fell down calling into his speaker a bit huskily “Bros I gotta go! I’m out! I’m out!”
She could hear his friends complaining over his speaker since they were winning the mission asking what was going on but his headphones got tossed as he gave her the grabby hands trying to get her to come to him which she did finally with an impish smile
“Oh no dudes my baby girl is looking so damn fine” he dropped his controller pulling her into his lap already pushing his shorts down going to take her right there not caring he had forgotten to turn off his mic “It is baby making time!”

So I read this very interesting post that was pro-Jonerys written around the time after season 7 aired, I think. It was very well-written and explored examples of Jon’s growing feelings for Dany all throughout season 7. But when I saw the examples used, I thought “oh man, this is the trap the show set and this awesome person unfortunately fell right into it.” Jonerys was meant to get our attention, to hide what was really happening with Dany behind the scenes so to speak but then shove it into the forefront in 8x05 so we would supposedly feel a jarring impact from Dany’s dark turn that we weren’t supposed to see coming. And while this person didn’t have season 8 to work with at the time (and I totes understand, season 7 was one big ball of confusing and guesswork not just for Jonerys but also other characters/story lines as well), I wanted to take another look at their examples (while also including some of my own) of Jon’s feelings for Dany in that 7th season.
Example 1):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is meant to call to the audience a growing attraction between Jon and Dany, and tension. But notice it’s the physical Davos is mentioning here. Not that Dany is a great queen or her good heart that Jon is supposedly taking interest in. It’s a physical attraction. This is also important as it will come into play later in 8x01.
And notice how it’s Davos to bring the subject up, not Jon. This cements this is the show trying to sell the GA something, an idea, that will then later come to fruition once its “product” is sold and the GA start embracing the idea.
Example 2):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This isn’t someone who is deep in love. Dany isn’t in love here either. This is him hoping that she’ll understand how important her joining the fight is, that these cave drawings are what will cement that joining as allies against the Night King. And it almost seems as if yes, she now understands and they can work together and you can see Jon is hopeful, which she immediately dashes when saying “I will fight for you. I will fight for the North...when you bend the knee.” You can even see Jon’s disappointment after this statement.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This scene is not Jon being jealous. This is Jon studying the interaction between Jorah and Dany. Remember, this scene is on the heels of a semi-disagreement that Dany and Jon are having after she’s returned from the battle with the Lannister army. Dany is trying to convince him that she did the right thing and when she sees he’s not immediately agreeing, she gets annoyed and tries to convince him further. Then Jorah shows up. This is a side to Dany that Jon still has yet to see. Dany immediately becomes soft, is affected by it that we even see her eyes become slightly teary and she smiles, and even hugs Jorah by the end of it. This is still the Khaleesi, the Breaker Of Chains, the Mother Of Dragons even, but this is also Dany, young Dany who Jorah met back at her wedding to Drogo. This is the side of her Jon has never seen before, that he and (from what he sees) Tyrion and Varys have not been able to access. But suddenly Jorah shows up and she’s practically purring (that’s not a dig or a slight, it’s truth, her soft side came out in this scene, Emilia showcased the difference brilliantly). Because Jon still doesn’t have Dany’s promise of support yet and he can’t leave yet, it’s no wonder that he’s studying the one person that seems to bring out that side of her. And it’s also no coincidence that Jon ends up stepping into a role similar to Jorah’s in the last season. Jon is who Jorah would have become for Dany had she been able to return his feelings.
Example 3):
Tumblr media
Yes, in the 7x06 script, it is confirmed that in this moment, after seeing Dany grieving Viserion, Jon realizes he does have feelings for her. We already know there was a growing physical attraction between them as stated by Davos above but now after seeing how Dany came to save them, he realizes okay this is who Missandei was talking about, this is who Jorah is in love with. And sure enough, we see Dany pledge to fight the Night King with him, without needing him to bend the knee. This is the same Dany the audience is charmed by, the same Dany that is fiercely stanned, the Mother Of Dragons, the Khaleesi and Breaker Of Chains, the queen many have chosen. Do I think here that Jon is head over heels? No. I think he does have feelings though that are growing, that he is starting to feel love, but it’s not an all-consuming passion and love.
Example 4) Boatsex:
Okay, before we delve into this, I want to show you something:
It is a common trope or theme that in a romance, the first kiss is shown. Whether it happens passionately or is just a small peck on the lips or an accidental smooshing, it’s always shown. Hence here are other examples of romances written on the show:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I couldn’t find a gif of the cave scene above)
Regardless of how these pairings above ended up, regardless of these first kisses leading right into sex or not, they had build-up before that first kiss and more importantly, that first kiss is shown. These are romantic-coded relationships meant to be read romantically by the viewers as, you guessed it, romances.
This is not a romance:
Tumblr media
Gif credit
The door is closed and the next scene we get is Dany and Jon mid-makeout, naked on the bed. The first kiss is not shown. Considering how they built up other romances on the show, if Jonerys was the “it” couple and the true romance of the show, if both loved each other so passionately, this was a very important element that they “missed”. Something that has nothing to do with the chemistry between the actors or bad writing or bad editing. It was purposely “missed”.
This scene below comes after that rolling around and a lot of people think it’s Jon gazing down on his beloved before that special moment:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I hate to burst anyone’s bubble but that’s not what this moment is. What you’re seeing is Dany is deep in this relationship happening (it’s clear as day on her face, again Emilia is just brilliant), Jon sees this and hesitates for a moment (most likely feeling somewhat guilty because his feelings are not as deep as hers but he can see how deep this is for her, notice how he keeps studying her face in the second gif), and then makes the decision to go through with it. And all during this, we have Bran’s voiceover revealing who Jon really is. Not to mention the obvious sexual positioning, it starts out with Dany on Jon’s side but over him and then he rolls them over and that’s how the sexual encounter progresses.
Dany who Doreah taught that “love comes in at the eyes”. Notice how Jon chooses to kiss Dany as they start doing the deed so their eyes are closed due to the kissing. Then compare it to the sex scene Dany has with Drogo in the tent (after Doreah’s lesson) back in season 1, where Dany is on top and in control, where she stares into Drogo’s eyes. Now rewatch the boatsex scene again. Jon was in control here.
This moment is not meant to be read a true romantic moment. You know how I know that?
This:
Tumblr media
There was absolutely no reason to show us (the audience) Tyrion’s reaction during the love scene. Yes, I’m sure there is some jealousy and concern over how this will go but in order for the one true romance of the show to have their moment, why are we shown an outside character’s reaction not once but twice? It’s not as if there is a love triangle happening between Jon, Dany, and Tyrion. So why show us? Their love scene already has an “interrupting” factor with Bran’s voiceover that they try to mix in with the love theme of “Truth”, so why add this, too?
Because it’s not going to end well. Because it’s not a pure two-sided, mutually deep romance.
And on top of that, this interview with Peter is very telling. “He loves her -- or thinks he does.” “She’s awe inspiring.” “He knows the two of them getting together could be very dangerous.” -> this relationship or getting together will not end well
“He loves her -- or thinks he does.” “She’s awe inspiring.” -> this is the way it’s been going the whole show is the arc of Dany in the show that most people feel enamored with from characters in the show to every last GA member, the Khaleesi, the Breaker Of Chains, the Mother Of Dragons - this is who Tyrion fancies himself in love with, who he supports and has faith in; this is who Jorah is head over heels in love with; this is Missandei’s queen who she & the others have chosen; this is who Jon has started to have feelings for (as per the 7x06 script confirmation) and loves by the time they get to Winterfell. In the end, though, Dany is no longer the Khaleesi or Breaker Of Chains and has even surpassed the Mother Of Dragons arc in that she uses Drogon purely as a weapon after 8x04.
Example 5):
Going back to what Davos said up above in Example 1, we get this scene in 8x01. We see Jon and Dany being viewed by Tyrion, Davos, and Varys, while making commentary. Notice again how Davos is the one to mention a possible union of the two, ruling the 7K together. Yet, while we see what appears to be a nice moment that these guys are viewing between the couple, we purposefully are not able to hear what is being said between them, and are viewing them from a distance like these guys are. Why? Because the show is selling/pitching you the idea once again through Davos while he is selling Tyrion and Varys on the idea of a union.
youtube
When we do eventually join Dany and Jon down there, what do we see? Dany telling Jon that Sansa doesn’t like her, Jon trying to reassure her, and then her subtly threatening if Sansa doesn’t respect her...
All of this was to show you that from the outside looking in, Jon and Dany seem to be the perfect power couple, the ultimate romance (despite the Targaryen secret). But when we actually do go inside, not all is as it appears to be.
You know what reinforces that idea? This:
Tumblr media
Jon and Dany actually had a semi-romantic moment, after displaying that the actors did indeed have chemistry in their banter before Jon rides Rhaegal, and boom, Drogon “interrupts”. To the point where Jon positions Dany in between them and keeps an eye open as he kisses Dany, watching Drogon warily. Once again, not only will this romance not end well, but it’s not a true romance. Drogon is clearly watching and you almost get a sense of distrust or at the very least, wariness. If Drogon is sentient enough to not kill Jon after he kills Dany, then he is sentient enough in this scene and that begs the question, just what is he thinking?
Example 6):
Tumblr media
This scene, Jon says “She shouldn’t be alone” when Varys tells him how Dany has stayed in her room, locked away in her grief. This isn’t Jon saying this because he’s love struck. This is Jon being compassionate and more importantly, because he’s thinking of a certain line said to him by this man:
Tumblr media
“A Targaryen alone in the world is a terrible thing.” And this is after he says, “No one to guide her.”
Jon now knows that he is the only family she has left in the world and now Jorah and Missandei are gone, leaving her with only Grey Worm, Varys, Tyrion, and himself to guide her. This is why Jon stayed by Dany’s side despite any amount of fear he had, despite her turning into dark!Dany at the end and leaving the Khaleesi, the Breaker Of Chains, and the Mother Of Dragons behind. He cared about her, plain and simple, but he was not head over heels in love. The show did a terrible job portraying that, because it was more interested in hiding Dany’s dark turn (while also giving hints so it’s weird why they chose to try to hide it at all) and keeping something also hidden about Jon (maybe pol!Jon? or maybe that Jon wasn’t as in love with her as she was with him? or maybe that he ultimately is the one to end up killing her? I don’t know, again, weird they gave all these hints but still kept it hidden, again, terrible job).
This doesn’t take away from the attraction he felt to Dany or any feelings of love that he had for her up to the end. He just wasn’t in love. Sure, he was awed by her like Tyrion, like Jorah, like mostly everyone else had been up until season 7. Dany’s line in 7x07 confirms this, when telling Jon about the dragons in the dragonpit: “They inspired awe and wonder. They were extraordinary.” And then she came to Westeros, a place where they had seen dragons before (think Aegon, the dragonpit, the dragon skulls in the basement of the Red Keep, the Targaryen tombs in the Sept, Aerys, Rhaegar), where Jon tells Dany if she uses the dragons (in 7x04) then she’ll “just be more of the same.” Dany’s line to Jon in 8x04 cinches it: “People have looked at me that way before. But never here. Never on this side of the sea.” The North (and Westeros) were never going to see her as the Khaleesi or the Breaker Of Chains. “The North remembers.” And the first thing Dany does when going to King’s Landing for a ceasefire talk, she rides Drogon to the dragonpit meeting. (It was smart and safer for her to do so, but Drogon of course lets out an intimidating roar before leaving, this is a land that is happy for Targaryens to remain out of power despite Cersei or the Starks or any other family). So it’s no surprise that Dany never experienced “love” in Westeros. Her dragons “overshadowed” her other two personas and once her dark turn happened (and lbr, she was on the verge of all season 8), there was no chance for the people to love her and accept her for either of those two arcs. Same goes for her relationship with Jon. Jon wasn’t ready to kill her after she massacred King’s Landing, he was actually defending her (which was very out of character and then was later confirmed by Bryan Cogman and Kit Harington as Jon being used as the audience mouthpiece and Tyrion was the writers’), ready to stand at her side, even if she chose to kill him later on. Only when it comes to his sisters, only when Dany unknowingly confirms that they indeed won’t have a choice in her new world, does he choose to act.
The show’s mistake in that scene was keeping Dany a sympathetic character until the end, which negated the moral of her story. But their even bigger mistake was using dialogue to callback to season 1 Dany, the same Dany the GA and Jon cared about, in a bid to make it a more tragic moment. It made it more tragic alright, but not in the way they were hoping.
Ship and let ship is my philosophy. So if you enjoy the idea of Jonerys, by all means, you do you. But sadly, this show really almost baited the audience with this idea of this ultimate tragic romance when it was anything but. Personally, this is why I’m anti-Jonerys. More than any other reason, this is why. The relationship wasn’t a good one for either Jon or Dany. And in my opinion, it wouldn’t have worked out even if Dany had lived, even if Dany hadn’t gone dark and burned down King’s Landing. This romance in this particular showverse was never going to be a love story for the ages. It was never meant to be.
tldr; Jon did care about Dany, had feelings, but he wasn’t in love with her. The show pulled the old bait and switch with it. They showed you a power couple that was supposed to enamor you and then break your heart, but then revealed it was never going to be the ultimate romance and negated the true moral of Dany’s story alongside Jon’s character with it.

As the month went on, my choices became more and more obviously comfort-reading-ish.
Reread: Pretty Face by Lucy Parker.
Total: thirteen novels (includes four audiobooks and one reread).
Cover thoughts: Unintentional colour scheme – blue to orange to purple. The Grandest Bookshop in the World is lovely (and would have caught my attention even if the artist hadn’t posted about it on Tumblr) and This Side of Murder made me want to read the book. A Song Unheard sets off my “unconvincing violinist” radar (I don’t know why), and I’m disappointed the cover for One True Pairing doesn’t match Level Up.
Still reading: The Rose Code by Kate Quinn and Castle Charming by Tansy Raynor Roberts.
Next up: Bellewether by Susanna Kearsley.
My full reviews are on Dreamwidth and LibraryThing.
*
The Verity Kent mysteries by Anna Lee Huber:  Historical murder mysteries, set in 1919.
This Side of Murder: Verity Kent, a young war widow, is invited to a houseparty on an island off the coast of England. It would be exactly the sort of romantic mystery I like, except I expect more from such stories: stronger prose, a more vivid sense of place and/or more nuanced characterisation.  But this was was arguably successful on its own terms – likeable and entertaining. I don’t really think I should blame it for not delivering exactly what I wanted. 3 ★
Treacherous is the Night: I knew this wasn’t going to be what I wanted but I was curious about how something in Verity’s personal life developed in the aftermath of the previous book. I can’t say I paid much attention to the actual mystery. I’d read the sequels if there weren’t so many other books I wanted to read more. 2½ ★
*
The Grandest Bookshop in the World by Amelia Mellor: Children’s historical fantasy, set in Melbourne in 1893.
This is a mix of things I love  – Melbourne! a bookshop! eccentric family! sibling dynamics! teamwork! riddles! – and of things I find disquieting. Creepiness is not a deal-breaker for me, and I can’t pinpoint why the sinister figure making deals with children, memory loss and destruction of beloved spaces made me feel so uneasy here. 3 ★
*
The Somerset Tsunami by Emma Carroll (narrated by Katherine Press): Children’s historical, set in Somerset in the early 1600s.
I think Carroll is an excellent storyteller and this story is no exception. However, it involves two things I don’t particularly enjoy reading about in historical fiction: a natural disaster and a witch trial! 3 ★
*
Murder on Cold Street by Sherry Thomas: Historical murder mystery, set in  Victorian London. Fifth in the Lady Sherlock series, following on from The Art of Theft.
After Inspector Treadles is accused of murder, Charlotte Holmes sets out to uncover the truth. This mystery was very satisfying – tense, atmospheric and intelligent, and the investigation feels both urgent and personal. Thomas is insightful about the issues and constraints faced by a variety of women in Victorian London, and I enjoyed piecing together an increasing understanding of the characters connected to the murder, especially Treadles’ wife Alice, who has recently inherited a business. 3½ ★  *
The Shadows Over England trilogy by Roseanna M. White (narrated by Liz Pearce): Romantic historical mysteries set in 1914 during WWI. Christian fiction. Standalone sequels to A Name Unknown.
A Song Unheard: Willa is sent to Wales to steal a cipher from the Belgium violinist. I rolled my eyes at a few things, but once I decided to just accept that Willa is a musical genius, I loved Willa’s and Lukas’ passion for music and enjoyed their banter and flirting, and I liked the chapters about Lukas’ teenage sister, Margot, who is back in Brussels. 3½ ★
An Hour Unspent: Barclay, ordered to discover if a clockmaker’s latest development is relevant to the war effort, befriends the clockmaker’s suffragette daughter. One of my favourite things about this trilogy has been Barclay’s large and loving found-family; I enjoyed spending more time with them. The romance was sweet, too. 3 ★
*
Nomad by R.J. Anderson: YA-ish fantasy, faeries and shapeshifters. Sequel to Swift.
When I read Swift in 2013, I was left feeling unsatisfied because this hadn’t been published yet and I wanted more of Ivy’s story. Well, here is more, but I really should have reread Swift first. Reading this was like picking up a book halfway through – and that’s just not the way to properly appreciate a story. 3 ★
*
Fandom Hearts by Cathy Yardley: Contemporary fandom-y romance, set near Seattle.
Level Up: Tessa needs help from her roommate Adam and colleagues to build a successful computer game in time for a fan contest. Initially the mid-2010s fandom references struck me as dated (not quite old enough to be ‘vintage’!) but then I settled into the story. More cute romances with fandom references, please.
One True Pairing: Mystics actor Jake hides from a mob of fangirls in the cafe where Hailey works. Jake’s in town for a fan convention, and Hailey soon concludes they would both benefit from a different sort of con: fake dating! A different side of fandom to Level Up, but enjoyable in its own way.

Ayesha at Last by Uzma Jalaluddin (narrated by Lara Sawalha): Contemporary Pride and Prejudice retelling about Muslims in Canada.
Yet another retelling, but it definitely – and deftly – justifies its existence. I thought it was lovely. Because it just draws on bits and pieces of Pride and Prejudice, I couldn’t predict how lots of things would unfold, and there was room in the story to explore Ayesha’s poetry and her relationship with her grandparents, and Khalid’s dealings with his Islamaphobic boss. 4 ★

Love at First by Kate Clayborn: Contemporary romance, set in Chicago.
Nora and Will have both inherited apartments in the same building, and Nora enlists help from neighbours to convince Will  that he can’t turn his apartment into a short-term rental. I love Clayborn’s writing and I enjoyed reading this, but I didn’t like it as much as her other books. I’m not sure why… Personal preference? 3 ★

None Shall Twain Them
A/N: Hi, this is for @green-arrows-of-karamel Mare. Sorry! I hope you can forgive me for the angstyness that I accidentally wrote, with HEA ofcourse. This is a WWI Olicity AU (aka Shale was watching waaaaay too much Anne of Green Gables so any fans will probably recognize this scene) This will probably be my last Olicity fic so I hope everyone enjoys it. Here’s to ARROW and OLICITY and the best EIGHT YEARS.
Cheers! –Shale @emeraldoliverqueen
They’d all told her that he was dead.
The informal letter from the US Army expressing condolences for her loss, the empty platitudes of gratitude for a service well done. She’d burned the letter.
John Diggle, his commanding officer, had shown up at her door with grief in his eyes and apologies on his lips. She’d slammed the door in his face.
Roy Harper, the boy who’d followed him to war, who worshiped the very ground he’d walked on, who’d lost an arm that very day, in the same battle, by the very same explosion that had taken his life, who sobbed with pain and horror-filled memories– she’d listened, hugged, comforted, but refused to be convinced.
Felicity Smoak-Queen refused to believe that her husband was dead.
In her gut she trusted, in her mind she knew, and in her heart she had faith that Oliver was still alive, fighting to come home to her.
As a code-breaker for the US Army-Intelligence, she had access to information most war widows did not. She was the receiver and decoder of good news and bad, horrific details of battles lost, and the utter relief of ground recovered.
When Oliver was found alive, she’d be the first one to know.
Every telegram she decoded she hoped that it was news of her husband. Accounts of losses, of German U-Boats, or trenches in France faded while she was desperate for any news of her lost lover.
For that’s what he was, lost.
Missing In Action.
Until they presented her with a body, and not just identification papers, Felicity would hang on to hope.
But then, the war ended.
The treaty of Versailles was signed, victory for the Allies, and prisoners of war released, ransomed, or recuperated. Still no word or sign of her husband.
Her job in the intelligence office was over, no letters to decode, no telegrams to read. On her last day, the Director gave her a shake of his head, a small smile, and told her the war was over, she could go home and she be happy.
She didn’t and she wasn’t.
Instead she wandered the streets of Starling City, avoiding drunk and ecstatic soldiers with their wandering hands. The quiet soldiers, the ones with their heads down, hobbling down the street she stopped, peering into their faces, hoping to recognize the man she loved in their dull, glassy eyes.
Only strangers remained.
Seven days later America celebrated, showering the skies with fireworks and parades. Ignoring and hiding the wounded veterans, the thousands dying of influenza, and the bloody cost of peace.
Her friend came and dragged her out of the house, stating that it was Independence Day, the war was over, and they should celebrate. Felicity just hoped that celebrating involved alcohol, though soon, if legislature had it’s way, all alcohol would be banned and prohibited.
Felicity wandered through the booths, feeling as though this was a dream, happening to someone else. No one could be this happy if they had lost everything, like she had. Her husband, her love and joy for the future, the man who’d seen the very best in her when she hadn’t. When she had believed that she was trash, destined to end up with the same fate her mother had– used, whored, and destroyed by consumption.
Oliver had seen her and convinced her that she had more to bring to this world, that her mind was brilliant, she was smart. He was the best of her and she had no idea what she would become without him.
She ended up near the bandstand, where two tipsy women were singing loudly to the crowd. Just as they finished their song they spotted Felicity, and insisted, with the help of the crowd, for her to join them in their next rendition.
‘Let me call you sweetheart’ was selected and off the two women went, loud and proud. Felicity half-heartedly sung along.
Until the crowd parted a hint, and through the small gap she spotted a small cluster of soldiers, US Army. One had a vaguely familiar height, with similar shoulder span. She stopped singing, praying he’d turn, begging the strange man to show her his face.
He turned! And showed his profile, and she hoped. Felicity jumped off the stage, heedless to the protests of the women, and lost sight of him in the crowd. She weaved through, her heart in her mouth, shoving and pulling and hoping against all proof that she’d found him.
And then, like the dawn cresting over the horizon, she beheld his face, his beloved face! Her Oliver, her home, in front of her.
The same myriad of emotions swelling within her reflected on his countenance and they embraced, hugging and kissing and murmuring words of reunion. Her heart was whole, the missing piece returned. The warmth from his body illuminated the darkened corners of her soul, fitting against her physically and spiritually.
Her husband was alive!
Too soon they parted, but their eyes refused to disconnect. As though underwater she could hear the bark of a command, of a stranger calling her husband lieutenant Queen. Felicity heard it but heeded it not, connected by the strength of her husband’s gaze.
Until it was broken.
Her gaze was ripped away by a harsh man grabbing her husband, scolding him in heat, her hand held tight in his grasp.
He was leaving again, too many things left undone by the crimes of war. But her husband was alive, in her arms and in her heart.
As he walked away, Felicity tightened her grasp in Oliver’s and followed him, never wanting to be apart from him again. Where he goes, she shall go, and none shall twain them.

I might get hate for this but whatever I actually wish the What if series would be in live action instead of animation...
What’s to hate about that?!
I’d prefer that as well. I wanna see Hayley put on the iconic uniform and grab the shield and go out to kick ass! I need Dominic to be my beloved Iron Dad again! And I demand to see Captain Carter coming back from a mission and the first thing she does is take her map reader and code breaker sidekick skinny!Steve into her arms and kiss him senseless. YES MORE SKINNY!STEVE!!! I adore skinny!Steve! Imagine how much more amazing he’d look now with Marvel’s improved CGI.

@knightlydumbass replied to your post: Lachesis: One must always follow a certain...
question did she always have ‘rule breaker’ persona lurking or did eldie dying bring it out
Lachesis has always been a very stubborn, strong-willed, and opinionated person, but I think she at least made a small effort to smooth it over on the outside as she was being raised as a princess. There might have been certain rules she criticized or ignored if she thought they were illogical, but I don’t think she actively tried to like...rip them to shreds. She wanted to present herself as a perfect princess...but she also didn’t want to compromise her own self/will. She knew Chagall was a shady character before the events of the game...and she criticized him for it, but she didn’t directly oppose him until the events we see in the game itself.
She has a sheltered naïveté to her in the beginning--but that’s shattered the moment Eldigan dies. The now blatant disregard for rules and social station doesn’t stop with Chagall, though a large amount of it starts there. She idolized her brother--but look where following his knightly honour got him. Look where not doing anything drastic against their king got her. Look where trusting in laws and idealism got them. What’s the point of following rules anymore if they aren’t helping anyone?
Lachesis’ point of view was always “laws are there to ensure people act justly”. However, if they aren’t doing their job correctly, she sees nothing wrong with tearing right through them in the name of “the greater good”, or making better ones to replace the failing ones. This is in contrast to Eldigan, who tried to work within the rules towards his ideals, and ended up getting killed for it. Lachesis doesn’t have faith in the system that failed her brother so miserably anymore. If a ruler isn’t fit to rule, then they should be replaced with a better one, right of inheritance or not. If the people are suffering because things have “always been this way”, or because those in power are exploiting them...then those in power need to be overthrown.
Despite being a noble, she doesn’t believe that inherently makes her better than people of lower social class. She doesn’t believe that nobles have more right to anything than anyone else. She does believe that moral people are better than immoral ones--though again, that’s dependent on her own subjective idea of what is “right” and just. She’s kind to people who are polite and considerate, and harsh with people who are rude and take advantage of others.
She kind of does start with an inherently privileged mindset, though, because she’s a princess--she never had to worry about being executed or taxed to starvation or anything if she spoke out or bent the rules a little before. She does whatever she wants, because she either doesn’t expect or doesn’t care if anyone gets in her way. Even after Eldigan’s death, she still carries a shred of her initial naïve nature with her--the complete and utter faith in her own imperative to do what is right meaning that there’s no way she could fail.
After Eldigan’s death, her “I do what I must, no matter what gets in my way” attitude, expecting the world to bend to her will gets turned up to eleven. It’s haughty and arrogant, but she doesn’t do it for her own personal gain. She fights to protect those she loves, and also because she can’t sit satisfied knowing that the world out there could be a better place. I guess the problem would be if she tried to impose her own morals on a group of people with different ones, and they had a clash of ideology.
Her complete lack of consideration of negative consequences or failure slowly gets eroded as the game progresses--Belhalla, being denied seeing Ares, having her family split apart--the failures pile on and on no matter how hard she tries or what code of morals she follows. The losses pile up, the opposition becomes more and more impossible-looking to stand against--she becomes worn down. She doesn’t carry the same fire that she once did. She spends more time running and hiding when she once would have stood and fought even in a seemingly impossible situation, just to make a statement for her beliefs. She still thinks rules like the ones the Empire imposes are unjust, but--look what happened when all her friends tried to stand against them. Her focus shrinks from ridding the world of injustice to just keeping her loved ones as safe as she can in an unjust world. She can no longer afford to stand against tyranny and oppression as brazenly as she did in the past.
To go back to your original question, yes, I do think Eldigan’s death was a turning point. There was a part of her that thought he was invincible, that didn’t really believe that her kind, beloved, perfect older brother would ever really be defeated--that he would die in such a pointless and ignoble way. The absolute rage (at Chagall, at the system, and the world) for allowing it to happen carries her for a while after his death--but it doesn’t last forever. Feelings of compounded grief and powerlessness begin to take over. By the time she sets out into the desert, it may have been a last desperate attempt to actually accomplish something tangible and worthwhile, since she couldn’t actually fight against any of the immoral rules exerted over the continent--or it may have been her deluding herself that she was doing it for a good cause, while subconsciously hoping to die and be released from the stewing bitterness of a helpless existence.
Anyways yes I love the Nordion siblings and it makes me really fucking mad that Lachy’s struggles with rules and ideals always gets ignored in favour of “lol brother-pining sis that’s all she is” :///

Chisaki’s fem!S/O being kidnapped
Someone please stop me from writing for the villains. I think I have an obsession or something-
Tumblr media
Okay so, first of all, he most likely had an arranged marriage with his S/O as a way to make a contract with her father who was an amazing underground Quirk researcher, so of course, Chisaki wanted to make sure the man only helps HIM and nobody else, so what better way?
The girl, he later found out, was much of a genius in many ways, like hacking, seducing, information gathering, science and so on, which she self-taught, having been locked up in her house for so long by her father who only ever wanted to use her as a deal-breaker.
It all started when she saw Mimic, the first person she got along with really well from the very beginning, struggling while trying to hack into an important database, so she offered her help and easily hacked into the program and explained everything in detail so her could understand the more abstract ways of coding, and since then, Chisaki let those two go out of the hideout  together so the girl could see and enjoy the freedom that she deserves but never got the chance to have.
It took a long time for the both of them to become truly attached to one another, but it was the cute, subtle ways in which they showed their love that was truly attractive. It was the caring looks they gave each other, the protective hand-holding and the warm hugs they shared that made a strong bond between their once cold as ice, frozen hearts that knew nothing of the warm feeling of love.
On one lovely day of Spring she went out to the Starbucks in the town center with her childhood friend, a girl with whom she hasn’t been in contact with for a long time, but they got along really well back in the days and decided to catch up and gossip all day long.
As she was drinking her beverage, she spilled a bit of cake on herself, so laughing, she excused herself from the table and went to the bathroom to clean herself up. There, she looked at her phone to check for any missed calls or messages, which she saw were flooding, from both Chisaki and Mimic. Curious, she called Mimic back since he seemed the most frantic to get a hold of her, for some reason.
Y/N: Yes, Raffa? Mimic: GOODNESS GRACIOUS, WOMAN, WHY DO YOU HAVE A PHONE IF YOU DON’T USE IT?! Y/N: Uhh Sorry, it was on silent mode. I forgot to change that this morning. Mimic: Arrghhh nevermind!! Are you okay?! Y/N: Yes, of course, why wouldn’t I be? Mimic: There’s a killer on the loose, dammit!! Y/N: Like...You and Chisaki? Mimic: I’M NOT JOKING, Y/N-
But he was cut off by Chisaki calling and the girl accepted the call, making that a group-call.
Chisaki: Where are you? Y/N: The local Starbucks. Wait, I’ll share my location with you- Chisaki: Keep the GPS on at all costs and make sure to hide your phone and have it at you at all times. Y/N: Yes, okay, but guys, can you tell me what’s going on?! Mimic: There’s this serial killer chick that is targeting some super boss yakuza leaders and one of them is- Chisaki: Me. Y/N: And what does it have to do with me? Mimic: We...We think that she knows of your connection to us and especially Chisaki. Y/N: How could she? We’ve never been out in the public or anything of the sort. Besides, I’ve always been extra careful when posting stuff on my social media. Mimic: I know, I was there to check them with you, but we don’t know why or how, but she might be targeting you. Y/N: Do you have a picture with her or something so I can be on the lookout? Or please make it fast, my friend might suspect something. Chisaki: Friend...? You are not alone? Y/N: Goodness, no, it’d have been boring to go out alone. An old friend contacted me again and asked to meet up. Mimic: Uh...Does this picture look famili- Y/N: *gasps* Th-That’s...That’s...M-My... Chisaki: That is your friend, isn’t she? Y/N: Y-Yeah...B-But...Do you know if she’s affiliated with anyone? Mimic: She might be affiliated with some underground people. Y/N: Only my father knew of our arrangements...My father...My father wants me dead. Just great! Freaking fantastic! Chisaki: Keep calm, Y/N. If she finds out that you know about her plan, she’s going to proceed with her plan much faster. Y/N: Yeah...Just great. Now I’m scared to think that she might have poisoned my drink. Chisaki: She wouldn’t. She needs you alive if she wants to blackmail me and use you as a bait. Y/N: That’s far more reassuring. Chisaki: Can you jump out of the window? Y/N: No...It’s much too tiny.  Chisaki: Then go back to her and act as if nothing happened. We are on our way there. Y/N: Yeah, sure, no problem. Totally not freaking out. Mimic: Y/N you taught me how to be a better gangster and refine my skills, okay? You are far better than me at this, so use your skills of deceiving people and act as natural as possible so she won’t pick up on anything. Y/N: *sighs* Okay, fine. The GPS is on. I’ll hide my phone and keep this group convo on going so you can hear what we’re saying, but I’ll be putting it on mute so no sounds from your end will be heard around here and make it suspicious, okay? I’ll tell her I let my phone at home to charge. Chisaki: That’s my smart girl. Stay strong, we’re going to be there soon. Y/N: *nods* Roger that.
Sighing and running a hand through her hair, she closed her phone’s screen and hid it in her bra, thanking whatever possessed her to wear a nice and large sweater so the phone won’t be visible no matter what.
She put on her vixen face and acted as natural as she could and went to ramble about how annoying it is to get the stains off such a nice cardigan, but what surprised her was when her friend asked her if she could use her phone to call someone. She blinked in confusion and smiled at her apologetically, saying how she forgot to charge it the previous night and that she left without it, letting it plugged for the day.
What was a bit shocking, however, was how her friend’s face twisted in rage for a split second before she gripped the girl’s wrist weirdly tight and forcefully dragged her out of Starbucks, saying how they need to leave for the day. The girl only gulped and tried to struggle, saying how she doesn’t understand her friend’s unexpected behaviour, but the friend only got angrier and slapped her friend before putting a chloroform napkin on her face, making her faint since she couldn’t hold her breath for too long.
Of course, by the time she woke up she was in a dark cell, only a lamp above her lighting up the sombre place. She got up quickly and rushed to the bar door, trying to see if it was locked or if she could somehow unlock it with a hair pin... No chance.
Chisaki, Mimic and Chrono found themselves in front of the enemy hideout and strode inside nonchalantly, pissed off beyond belief, as Chisaki looked as stoic as ever, only unleashing his rage by using his Quirk on everyone who dared stay in his path.
As he got in front of the cage, he easily destroyed the bars, only to see his semi-conscious S/O, several cuts on her face, who knows how many other bruises on her body, being held by her hair, on her knees, by the person she once called a friend, a knife at her throat.
“Now, now, look who decided to show up! How did you find us, young Yakuza leader~?” asked the enemy with a sly grin on her face. “Her phone GPS, of course.” Chrono replied in a low, threatening voice as if it was as clear as the day light. “Phone...? What phone?! She has no phone at her! I checked her bag and pockets!” she yelled, enraged. “My bra, you idiot...Why do you think I kept...Crossing my arms to my chest...? If you somehow hit the phone with you...Stupid boots then it was bye-bye for me...” the victim tried so say in a weak voice, occasionally stopping to cough some blood. “You...! YOU LITTLE BITCH! YOU LIED TO ME!!” the kidnapper shouted at her, putting a hand on her throat and squeezing it, making the poor girl gasp for air. “S-So did...You...” she managed to choke out. “It’s over now. Give up and return her to me.” Chisaki said, his eyes holding a burning fire, barely able to keep himself composed. “You think I got through all this trouble to just peacefully return her? How stupid can you be?! I think I’d like to have a little more fun with dear Y/N here-” she said, but was quickly interrupted when she tried to move but realised her movements were extremely lethargic and it confused her to no end.
At the same time, her knife suddenly jumped out of her grasp and went next to Chisaki, making it obvious that Chrono’s and Mimic’s jobs were done there. “Wh-What did you do to me?! Freaks!” the enemy asked, her hand still around the girl’s throat, but no longer posing as a danger. “As I said, it’s over. You were so busy letting anger take over you that you lost focus of your surroundings. Chrono touched you with his hair and Mimic’s mind went inside the knife. Now...It’s my turn.” with that, he went to the two girls and grabbed a fistful of the enemy’s hair, dragging her away from her beloved and kicked her in the face with his combat book as hard as he could, slamming her in the wall in the process.
“Chrono, Mimic, bring this unclean filth to the base. If I use my Quirk on her it’d be meaningless. Also...Arrange a meeting with Y/N’s father. I think a discussion between a husband and his father-in-law would be very important now.” “It shall be done” said Chrono, as he dragged the unconscious one away.
Chisaki grabbed a napkin from his pocket and kneeled in front of his wife, one hand on her face and the other trying to wipe away the dirt and blood from it, tenderly.
“Thanks for saving me, Chisaki. I’d be dead without you.” she whispered, a small smile on her face. “You got involved because of me. It shouldn’t have happened.” he said, closing his eyes. “Sorry for the trouble. I’ll try to be more careful.” she said, leaning in his touch. “I’ll make sure that never happens again. Let’s go home for now.” with that, he picked her up bridal style, making her smile softly and snuggling to him all the way back to their own hideout, where he made sure to make her as comfortable as possible as she healed herself, thanks to her amazing Healing-Water Quirk.
When night came and the girl was in her nightgown, messing around on social media on her phone, Chisaki went in their room, putting his mask carefully on the table and changing in his sleeping wear before getting in bed next to her, thing that never happened before since he was always too busy and preferred to stay alone with his work.
He said nothing as he watched her looking at him, surprised to see him there and putting her phone on the nightstand.
“Chisaki? Are you okay?” she asked, worry dripping from her sweet, angelic voice. “You seem to have completely healed. Your Quirk is something useful in this world.” he muttered, examining every inch of her body to see if he could spot any little bruise. “It is,I suppose. But if I were in your place, I wouldn’t have been able to save you.” she said with a half-grin. “Come here.” he mumbled, his eyes boring deep into her soul.
She complied, scuttering over to him, but to her surprise, he got her into a very tight embrace, stroking her hair, his heartbeat visibly calming down. She then realised that he was worried sick and this was his way of being 100% certain that what was happening was real and that she was really safe and sound, in his arms, a pulse still beating. She could only grin and cuddle to him, putting the blanket over them and kissing him lightly on the lips, saying soothing, reassuring words to him.
For the first time since they got married they slept in the same room, together, two heartbeats forming into one as he continued stroking her hair, not being able to sleep that night in fear that something might happen and she will be snatched away from his grasp once again.
He won’t ever let that happen again. His angel will never ever be stolen away from him. He made a mistake that almost endangered her, but no more. He knew what was to be done and made sure either Chrono or Mimic were with her at all times when she was to go out of the hideout, no matter what.
He will protect his beloved wife, Y/N, at all costs. Y/N is his.
Forever.
