A late Fremione drabble for @liquidluckdrabblechallenge's prompt #55

Plot: Hermione is sad after her break-up with Krum, Fred delivers her favourite sweets to cheer her up.

Words: 530

Since Hermione had arrived at Grimmauld Place, Fred had yet to see her smile. Ron had told him not to worry about it, that it must’ve been girls' problems, but Ginny had mentioned a break-up between her and Viktor, and although it was Hermione herself who had made the decision, it was clear that she suffered from it.

“She called it a practical choice,” was all his sister let out after a long interrogation, whatever that meant.

So, Fred had made it his mission to make Hermione laugh, and with George’s help he had managed to get a loud snort, an eye roll and a smirk tinged with sadness.

“Maybe she just needs to be consoled,” his twin had suggested, after their last failed attempt to cheer her up, and he was probably right, but there was no way to do it without touching on the subject he wasn’t supposed to know about.

The perfect opportunity to dive deeper in what she needed came after one of their countless tense dinners, during which his mother and Sirius kept bickering about what was best for Harry, for the Order and for everyone else inside those damned dark walls. The owner of the house had stormed out before he could finish what was on his plate, probably to bring some dead mice to Buckbeak, while the Weasleys sealed themselves in their shared bedroom, prompting the other diners to scatter around the house. The only one who hadn’t left was Hermione, who was still glued to her seat looking at an undefined spot on the floor.

“You don’t seem to like it here very much,” Fred ventured, hoping to get her attention.

Predictably, Hermione flinched at the sound of his voice, but she recovered quickly and put back on the demure mask she sported for weeks now.

“There’s just a lot more people than I’m used to,” she replied, getting up to help him clear the table.

“We could go out for a while,” Fred ventured. “There’s a park nearby.”

“Your mother will never give us permission,” she murmured, before heading towards the kitchen.

“Is there anything else I can do for you?” he asked, wondering if falling in love was worth it, if suffering was all it came from it.

“Unless you know the secret recipe of Madam Puddifoot’s pumpkin pastries, I’m afraid not,” she tried to joke, but the words came out more depressing than she intended.

A small golden tray, dressed in the typical pink wrapping of the Hogsmeade tea shop and secured with an enormous light blue bow, appeared on her bedside table the following evening, accompanied by a note, written in Fred's unmistakable awkward handwriting.

Whatever you want, just ask.

Hermione didn't know if it was the scent of her favourite sweets that tickled her nostrils, or the idea of ​​Fred breaking all the rules Mrs. Weasley had laid down since they arrived at Grimmauld Place just because she had a specific craving, but for the first time since she had ended things with Viktor, a sincere smile opened on her face, and the light of a new beginning seemed to reach her even in that gloomy house.

As Fred’s arms hugged around her waist to bring her flush against him, his head tilting to deepen their kiss further, Hermione thought they might have been onto something, after all.

The Greatest Gift - The holiday season can be busy and chaotic, especially for the two of them. It's nice to remember, Hermione thinks, that the best gift she could ever receive is the one that she already has. Fred is more than willing to continue to be that gift for her in whatever way he can —special surprise, and all.

Hermione looked up from her book. “What are you banging on about Ron?”

“We’re deciding who would win in a fight if we all went up against one another.  I think Harry might beat me, but that I would definitely beat you.”

Hermione snapped her book shut in irritation. “Ha! I could take out either one of you and it’s best that neither of you forget that. There’s an important distinction between chooses not to and can’t that you should both keep in mind.”

Harry looked sceptical. “Okay, so Ron, maybe. But me? Come on, Hermione. I took out Voldemort.”

Hermione ignored Ron’s scowl and turned to face Harry directly. “And I used darker magic on Marietta Edgecomb than you did against him. You can’t expelliarmus at me and win, Potter.”

Harry smirked at her. “I’m still better at dueling than you, Hermione. That’s just facts.”

Hermione nodded. “Sure. I’d have you taken out long before it ever got to a duel, but sure. You could beat me in a duel that will absolutely never happen because why would I ever agree to wait to take our disagreement to a playing field more suited to you.”

Fred sat down in between Ron and Hermione, pushing his brother to the side and putting his arm around the brunette witch. “Of course you would beat them, love. You are both marvellously brilliant and tremendously scary.”

Hermione smiled at her husband and snuggled into his embrace. “That’s why we’re so perfect together, darling.” She turned to glare at Harry and Ron. “Any serious fight between us would be over before either you realized it had begun.”

Ron’s scowl deepened as he reached for another cookie, shuffling to give the couple more space on the couch. Fred smiled at his wife and kissed the top of her head.  

So he missed it when she stuck her tongue out at Ron.

19. i feel good about this - the mowgli's

you know... there are SO many possibilities for this song. it's SUCH a vibey fremione song. but i think ultimately i might go: george and angelina get married and move in together, hermione's rent gets hiked so she's looking for somewhere new to live, and fred offers up his spare bed room. he's surprisingly functional in living on his own, so hermione doesn't really hesitate in saying yes, thinking it'll just be a chill roommate agreement. but they both work long hours during the day and get into the habit of sharing a late dinner when they finally get home, collapsed on the couch, recapping their days and weeks and laughing about everything and nothing. and slowly, surely, they fall in love. both of them, who have been looking for something more with someone for as long as they can remember, just... stumbled into it with each other. and maybe it's because they weren't looking, but maybe it's also just because they were always meant to. because fred and hermione just go together and they make sense, and it was always meant to happen like this.

I'm absolutely terrible about it because I have no idea what to say. The worst thing is I go back periodically and reread them when I'm in a slump, but it feels trite to just say thanks! for each one. And sometimes there’s just not anything to say 🤷‍♀️ (I love and read each and every one of them tho)

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

Idk about angstiest, but I do have a few horror endings. I guess that counts? Morning in America maybe, since it deals with Polly's issues and leads into S1 of Riverdale.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

I write a lot of fluff, but I'm partial to Enough and It's My Party (I'll Cry If I Want) because those are more about finding self-acceptance and trying to figure out who you are.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

Eh, I'd rather not unless I either have a passing knowledge of it or it's just single words. (Ex. my gran always saying "Bras mon chou, y sas e tu", which is probably written wrong, but gotta love when her latent Cajun came out.)

Gundam Wing. That was a crack fic when I was... in middle school? All I remember is it was a bunch of 'ads', sort of a sketch show in writing. One of the scenes was Relena on top of an alp going 'Hero Yuy' like those cough drop commercials. I remember nothing else from it.

What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

Crispers, Cats, and You. It's really what got me into writing fanfic. I wrote it at a time in my life that I needed something stable, and it was there for me after a long day. I honestly don't know if I'll ever get back to it, largely because JKR has ruined that particular franchise for me, and I hate that I can’t come back to any of my WIPs because of it.

A Fremione drabble for @liquidluckdrabblechallenge

Leaning against the balustrade, Hermione watched the fireworks with eyes full of wonder. Obviously she’d seen them before, both among the Muggles and the Wizards, but this time they were different, animated in such complex shapes that they took her breath away every time new ones appeared in the night sky. Even Fred, whom thought to knew a lot about them by now, was enchanted by the vision, but his favourite thing of the event was the red and white sparks reflected in the hazel eyes he found himself searching whenever he entered a room. As Hermione watched the scene with rapt attention, she didn’t notice how the expression of her best friend’s brother had softened, nor was she able to compare it to the one she faced a few months later, while crossing the Great Hall arm in arm with Viktor Krum, but Fred knew it had to be the same. As soon as the Quidditch player had gone away to get her something to drink he had asked her to dance, Angelina lost in who knows what animated conversation with George, and for a moment everything had been as it should have. Hermione had let the stress of the event wash over her, and rested her head against his chest when the song changed from lively to slow.

“I didn’t make you an expert dancer,” she whispered, when the time had come to return to their respective partners.

“I’m always happy to surprise you,” he replied, his heart breaking into a thousand pieces at the devastating smile the girl he had undeniably fallen in love with had given to someone he could never be. The memories of the Yule Ball still had a bittersweet taste by the time his birthday came, and with it the first gift Hermione had ever given him.

“I thought it might be useful,” she simply told him, a crooked and even slightly embarrassed smile painted on her lips as she handed him the package, small enough to fit in his pocket.

“I guess you got the same thing for George too,” he’d replied before he could even thank her, because it was the norm when it came to them. Twins, therefore the same. But Hermione shook her head, her cheeks suspiciously red.

“I got something only for you,” she’d finally admitted, when she’d managed to regain the gift of speech. “Make good use of it.”

Fred had opened the box, so carefully wrapped, as soon as Hermione had turned the corner. How long has she been following him to make sure she found him alone? And why has she gotten something just for him? Every question spun out of his mind as soon as he saw the content. Tempest in a Bottle was the most expensive item available from Zonko, something he’d never dreamed of being able to afford. Tied to the thin glass neck, was a note, written in Hermione's unmistakable neat handwriting.
