Okay, so...to recap the information we explicitly have:
Will is gay and has feelings for Mike. There have been signs of this in the show since the beginning. He would not tell Mike this while he was still in a relationship with El. Will’s scripted coy reactions were in reaction to Mike’s scripted “sly smile”. The blocking of the couples on the hill and El alone in relation to Will and Mike “could be foreshadowing, could not” - Noah Schnapp.
Not to mention how giggly the entire cast and creators are about it, especially that recent Noah interview where he stopped the translators from skipping the Byler question and then could not stop grinning and perhaps bouncing his feet a little if I remember? while saying that they’d have to...watch season 5 and see when they asked if he thought Byler could really happen. Also “not to mention” all the metas and analysis of subtext.
But we know for a fact that Will is gay and has feelings for Mike and has since the beginning - confirming fan spotted subtext, that Noah started stumbling over his words before saying that the blocking “could be” foreshadowing. Not just have meaning, foreshadowing.

Spider Ham's Chekov Hammer: simple enough to guess, I'm just really waiting for that to pay off, preferably over Miguel's head.
Spider Noir and Hobie get along: just some good ole' fanservice.
Miles G. is actually a dork (he's just better at hiding it. mildly): Wow, great introduction Miles G.! Very suspenseful and intimidating!! Let's see how long you can carry that demeanor without breaking.
Margo / Miles (Miles G.?) / Gwen Love Triangle (Pavitr is annoying about it): Pass the popcorn everyone. How resentful will be Miles when he meets Gwen again? Is getting the spider-band together enough for him or is it just the first step into making amends? Maybe he feels more grateful towards Margo (and Hobie) and will give Gwen (and Peter B.) the cold shoulder for a while. Will Miles G. also enter the ring? Maybe this one really cute comic by @bubblypinkfreak will become true.
Jess Drew Subplot (baby is born?): REAL interested in finding out why Jess would ever follow an asshole like Miguel. Also she deserves more plot relevance. And fanart. Aaaaaand I kinda want to see her husband too.
The Spot Collapses in on himself: Gonna be honest with you, people, I have no idea how they'll fight him, this just seems like the cleanest solution.
Miguel's actually just as much of an anomaly as Miles: My own personal theory, not really based on anything concrete beyond some flags I get from Miguel and some stuff I'll explain later. Basically, I think Miguel's projecting on Miles, and that's part of why his beef towards him is so intense. The only explanation I can think of is that he destroyed his original dimension, not just the one with his daughter in it, and the serum we see him take is what keeps him "stable" and "belonging" to Nueva York. Or you know, maybe just the watch, but the serum is more sus to me.
Gwen Stacy Fall Subversion: Either Gwen completes her character arc by saving Miles from falling to his death or she saves herself, thus breaking her karmic cycle of getting fridged.
Meows Morales cameo?? Pretty Please???: C'mooooon he became instantly popular and he's adorable!!!!! <3 <3 <3 bonus points if multiple miles help out to fight against Miguel's squad later.
We spend some time on Hobie's dimension: No idea how the plot would get there, but the concept art of Hobie's dimension is fire and I want to learn more about him <3 <3 <3 tell us why you almost gave up the mask, darling, and did you kill a cop in your dimension? <3 why would you feel bad about it? <3 <3 <3 <3
Gwiles Morales (he hates that name): Apparently this is how some of the staff called him. Poor guy.
The Spider-Band fights Earth 42's Sinister Six: For those who don't know, they control Earth 42, as confirmed by the art book. Nothing better to sweeten Miles G. to our heroes' side than taking care of them. Bonus points if one of them is explicitly a fascist and Hobie and Noir punch him together.
Miguel Bites Someone: bonus points if it's hot as fuck. Sorry but it's true.
Lyla's the real bad guy (beyonder): I'm gonna let moviebob do the heavylifting here. Could tie to that personal theory I explained above.
Peter B. vs Miguel fight redemption: ok this one I'm biased for because I personally find Peter B. more morally culpable than Gwen in their whole drama with Miles seeing as he's the adult with a kid. But also yeah, good chance for him to redeem himself in Miles eyes (or not! maybe Miles wants more from him that just standing up to a bully) and take Miguel down a peg. Bonus points if he looses a leg, because apparently that's something that happens in Spidergirl's comic.
Prowler!Hobie somehow: Not saying our Hobie will turn into the prowler, just that the connection will be addressed somehow. Idk man, it just feels like positioning Hobie as another mentor for Miles is very deliberate.
Miles feels guilty about Earth 42: Juicy source of drama between him and Miles G. as well as a free character arc about how responsibility is more than just cause and effect.
Miguel tries to redeem himself by dying but Miles won't allow him to: Miguel O'hara has several problems, and I speculate they all come from his self-obsession. Everything about the spider society is about him erecting structures dedicated to his pain to turn himself into the martyr holding reality together. So if he's finally proven wrong, it seems pretty in character to me that his idea of making amends would be to do the same thing one last time for "the right cause", being the diva he is and how he thinks you can sacrifice one person to save everyone else and all. I don't think Miles will allow that, though. Bonus if the scene parallels the one in into the spiderverse when Miles returns Peter B. home.
That one @cheezthatboiii comic / Mileswitch: because what's the point of having a twin if you can't fool people about it?
Gonzalo/Gonza Morales: The correct alternative to Gwiles if anyone during production has braincells or is latine.
Margo Subplot (family issues): confirmed in the artbook that she ended up having more plot relevance than originally planned, and even if that wasn't the case she deserves it. And more fanart.
The Spot is defeated with kindness: Ok. Before I said that I don't know how the Spot could be defeated with violence, but maybe that's not needed? He is clearly a foil to Miles after all, and I think it would do him (Miles) a lot of good to practice some radical empathy, even on someone who kinda doesn't "deserve" it. This isn't so much about him being ""redeemable"" (fandom has ruined that whole concept) so much as how much empathy the narrative is willing to grant him.
Jeff meets Gonza before Miles reveals to him that he's Spiderman. He's confused by having 2 sons: this just feels to me like the most probably sequence of events given the franchise's usual use of bathos and subversion of expectations.
Spider Support Network Finale: No more spider society authority "correcting" the multiverse, every spider-person gets a watch so their friends can come over and lend a hand and prevent as many deaths as possible.
Aaron 42 gets severely injured/dies: I don't want this to happen, it just seems like a way of trimming some fat in the cast and getting some more drama from Gonza.

Hehe. Yeah I love that idea. G's dry cynical vibe with D's chaotic sunshine vibes ... chef's kiss. I think I spoke about the possibility with no full confirmation- and we talked about how the place I studied at used to have these G&D ice cream shops and it would be so cute to imagine them setting up an ice cream shop together... though G would never be conned into doing that if they can help it.

this is gonna feel like a tangent but I promise it'll circle back around at the end
but the way the mcu handles the black widow/cap female cast feels so misogynistic once the topic of romance comes up & I'm scared of that course getting to Kate and Yelena b/c I do Not trust marvel
like the mcu already did Nat so dirty, but the comics aren't much better the way they had (mind controlled) Bucky train and groom her as one of the Red Room girls then to have them become sexual & Natasha still just gets pulled into Captain America comics just to be drawn in male gaze sexy poses over Bucky and then leave as if she's just a prop to "spice" things up
like she's not even a full Cap character but gets tossed in just for that, not that it's better for the Cap girls/the Craters the way they do the Aunt-Niece "love triangle" and have Sharon growing hearing all about Peggy's thing w/ Steve and watching old footage just to grow up and be the newer younger Carter for the same old man she watched growing up.
that part's even worse in the mcu b/c they used time travel + the loki show to confirm that he was her original uncle on top of all e existing weird shit! But at least the mcu didn't involve Bucky w/ the Red Room girls, thank G-d, but that's also where I'm worried b/c of the rumors w/ Yelena in the Thunderbolts movie. All the dudebros talk about Yelena like she's to "make up" for the fact that didn't get the Natasha "spicy" ship, and it just feels so misogynistic the way they keep getting treated like youthful "spicy" lampshades for the male Cap cast. I'm just praying marvel won't take inspo from the comics w/ her predecessors and push Yelena into a "spicy" ship for That audience 😞

On February 20th of 2018, Special Agent Atsuya Kusakabe interviewed Fushiguro Toji at the office of Superintendent Masamichi Yaga.
F.T.: Can someone tell me what is going on?  
A.K.: Good morning, Fushiguro-san. I’m required by law to tell you this interview will be recorded and transcribed.
F.T.: Not exactly good when you're held against your will, mister....?
A.K.: Special Agent Atsuya Kusakabe. I have a few questions for you. F.T:  You’ve been shitting on me since last night... I doubt you’d take any other answer aside from yes
A.K.: You can lose the sarcasm, Fushiguro-san and, again- sit down. The sooner we get this done, the sooner you get out and see L/N-san at the hospital.
(silence)
(sound of a picture sliding)
F.T.: It’s a case. We closed it. You saw what happened. She was on the papers. Front page of the ‘Yomiuri shimbun’ a few days ago. 
A.k.: Right, you both did.  (Speaking at the recorder.) 
A.K.: The time is presently 0630 HOURS, on FRIDAY the 20th of February. This is Special Agent Kusakabe, and I am here at the office of Superintendent Masamichi Yaga in the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department to interview Fushiguro Toji, DOB 12/31/**. This is case number 16-100020 7 Before we begin, let me iron out the report here. Your last name Fushiguro is spelled F-U-S-H-I-G-U-R-O and your first name, Toji is spelled T-O-J-I? And you were born on 12/31/**, right?
F.T.: (Scoffs) I told you- 
A.K: Fushiguro-san, the sooner you answer everything here, the sooner you get to walk out those doors and see L/N-san at the hospital... 
(silence)
F.T.: Fine, what do you want?
A.K.: Please confirm if I have the details that I previously stated, right.
F.T.: You do.
A.K.: and you currently live in ****, am I right? Your contact phone number is ****?
F.T.: Yes.
A.K.: Alright, Fushiguro-san. That's better... You used to go by the name [redacted] Toji, am I right? Dual citizenship. You lived in London with your mother-
F.T.: What does this have to do with anything?
A.K.: Very brief Background check. Please refrain from saying anything else needed and only stick to answering the question.
(silence)
F.T: Yes, I used to go by the name [redacted] Toji. Yes, I grew up with my mother in London. Went to college there, met my wife there... I changed my last name after I-ah, married my wife...we moved back here late 90′s, I believe. You got whatever you have there right, I guess.
A.K.: You currently have one son who is under the care of the [redacted] due to mental inc-
F.T.: I apologize but could we skip the family and very personal background check? My boy, my dead wife, my blood family, and my mental illness have nothing to do with this interview or this case.
A.K.: Again, I’m making sure the file is right. Please try to control yourself, we can detain you for a longer period because of the gravity of the situation you were in last night.
F.T.:  You have the fucking file right through and through. What I don’t get is why I’m being treated as a suspect when I was clearly the victim. Isn’t this against my rights?
(silence)
(Paper shuffling)
A.K.: You were walking in the middle of Shibuya station during rush hour, at quarter to seven last night with a bomb strapped on you… You should be thankful that because of your big help to the precinct that you aren’t treated any less... 
F.T: I had a sniper pointed at my forehead. If I hadn’t kept walking, I’d be shot and the bomb would go off; killing more people. (silence) (chair moving) Now, tell me, what would you have done?
(inaudible voices)

A.K.: Let’s skip a few pages then. You moved back to London again and joined the military after your wife died back in the early 2000’s, leaving your few month old son with the family you quote and quote aren’t in any good terms with. You went back here ten years later, last 2014. Only to move in with Y/N L/N, why?
F.T.: What do you mean, why? I had no money. You can’t exactly afford London or Tokyo with an army pension especially when you have a therapist and a P.T. to pay for. It didn’t cover any of that. 
A.K.: Yet your medical license wasn’t revoked by the board. You could’ve taken the exams here and continued practicing medicine as soon as you arrived. It paid good money and might even help you get your son back. Based from your file, you skipped a few grades, graduated a consistent scholar from your undergrad until medical school in the UK,  seemed to be very good and rose to the ranks as a consultant physician in the army, even-
F.T.: You have the file. (silence) You know from the therapists notes that I had ah- brief episodes from the trauma and it came along with some comorbidities at that time. I even thought I had PTSD at one point and had psychosomatic symptoms that manifested on my left leg. What makes you think I’d be in the right mind to treat people? Much less get back the custody of my child? They’d use that against me, get my license revoked permanently, and I wouldn’t be able to see my fucking kid again...ever...
(silence)
A.K.: Alright, thank you for clarifying that. It’s just..(silence) not everyday do you see opposite sex individuals living together in this country… Correct me if I’m wrong but you were both strangers, were you not? You just met her two years ago? 
F.T.: I did. She ah- she was looking for someone to lodge with, she wasn’t picky with the gender... As was I, western culture doesn’t really have a problem with opposite sex flatma- i mean, roommates...
A.K.: Did you ever get to ask her why?
F.T.: She’s…(silence) she’s never told me… But I believe she needed an assistant.  Someone well aware in the field of medicine. It made sense why she asked or purposely slipped in a little story to Kong Shiu, someone I used to work with when I practiced here twelve-thirteen years ago. The man knew doctors. He knew how open I was as well to the idea of sharing a flat- I mean, an apartment with someone like her.
A.K.: And you started helping her out with her cases. Were the dead bodies not a reminder of your time with the army? You mentioned trauma and (paper shuffling) self-diagnosis for PTSD earlier at one point and I assume that’s after you had returned to Tokyo...Seeing something so similar especially with your perspective then...
F.T.: The trauma was more or less due to the injury on my arm, not the bodies I encountered. The base was attacked while I was deployed on field. They weren’t able to strap me on some protective gear since they needed to get me out, I ended up shattering a bone and grazing my subclavian artery in the process.
(silence)
F.T.: I also almost got my arm cut off but as my wife used to say, god’s good… I ended up getting discharged with a shit pension and luckily, my arm intact. I met Y/n while I was in the middle of seeing a therapist for my psychosomatic disorder and P.T. for my arm.
(silence)
A.K.: And how did that work?
F.T.: What do you mean? My arm?
A.K.: You, being the assistant of the most brilliant minds of Japan. 
(silence)
F.T.: I don’t know. I was deadbeat, alright? I had no place to go with no plans. I guess you could say its exciting… 
A.K.: Excuse me?

F.T.: look, I had just lost a long term job, something I thought I’d be doing for a longer period if it wasn’t for that injury...My son who I still haven’t communicated with due to personal issues.... (silence) again, you have the file there... it was simply a horrible time for me and then I met Y/N and her unconventional lifestyle; chasing around murderers, underground dealers, criminals... She’s a smart woman who knew how to hold her ground and knew her way around things … She helped me out in some way… it’s more or less the ah- she had a explanation for that… apparently I had a constant need to chase things around and deal with high-octane adrenaline fueled situations because I enjoyed it and it made me feel like I was doing something useful... or that’s how she worded it..
A.K.: No other personal feelings were involved towards L/N-san, then?
(silence)
F.T.: She’s a... a very good partner and a dear friend who I owe a lot to, if that's what you’re asking.
A.K.: Alright, wasn’t so hard now was it? We will be taking note of this while we investigate further...Now onto, the next question...

I'm bummed that we get cheating/infidelity for Lucy while as much as he looks like a generic white boy right now, Jonah potentially being a villain sounds more interesting in concept than what Lucy currently is right now. Of course nothing is confirmed and things can change so what we have is what we have, but yeah... Sorry for clogging your ask with a complaint.
What's even more annoying about the cheating is that the fans who thought it "made sense" were all "Are we really surprised? Meeting Lucy is taking back to his 1.0 days. She's going to bring out the worst in him." W R O N G. They've actually written her character to need Buck's influence! The kiss didn't have to happen. KR and Tim just wanted to create a quasi love triangle for the purpose of primetime tv drama.

I wrote the Exile > MTR > Happiness anon and would like to elaborate/clarify what I meant as I was rushing when I sent the original anon. All my opinion of course (so no disrespect to anyone).
Taylor said the focus of folklore was the love triangle between Betty/James/Inez and that evermore was the sister album—both albums are telling that entire story. So because of this, I think you have to really listen between the lines.
I never said Karlie and Taylor have “seen each other out recently” nor am I saying that they broke up (they’ve shown VERY recently that they haven’t). I’m saying that these three songs are about someone she broke up with *before* she started dating Karlie. Exile is about finally leaving a toxic relationship. Why would Scott care if he saw her in a picture with her arms around someone else laughing? Why would he tell her it took her five whole minutes to be in someone else’s arms after they’d just had a fight (for example)?
MTR is the conversation after the breakup in Exile. “You had to kill me, but it killed you just the same—it had to end even though neither person wanted it to. It hurt her to leave and it hurt the other person to watch her leave.
“Hear my stolen lullabies” is a metaphor for hearing her voice, not her literal songs. Her voice haunting this person, even though she’s not there. Her screaming at the sky because the other person isn’t there so she has no one to talk to. They gather stones never knowing what they mean—some to throw (pick a fight), some to make a diamond ring. They don’t know if it’s gonna be love or war. Like in tolerate it when she says “I greet you with a battle hero’s welcome”. When someone comes home from war, you don’t know what version of that person you’re going to get. Also, what exactly would Scott be giving her a diamond ring for?
“I can go anywhere I want just not home”—she can go anywhere but home because she can’t be around or face the person she just left in Exile. Just like in Happiness, when she says “I pulled your body into mine very g—damn night, now I can’t fake niceties”—she can’t be “just friends” with this person after something like that (sleeping together). Champagne Problems—how evergreen our group of friends…don’t think we’ll say that word again .
She accepts the end of *that* relationship in “Happiness and chooses to be happy. There is happiness (with Karlie) AFTER that previous relationship and there’s also happiness BECAUSE of that person/relationship. Had she not left that situation (as much as she may not have wanted to..as that’s the price she paid) she wouldn’t be in the one she is now—7 years of heaven. How even across their “great divide” or breakup, there was a bright spot—a glorious sunrise (from St. Louis). Dappled in flickers of light from the dress she wore at midnight (she was buried in that dress in the LWYMMD video…which she wore to the 2014 Met Gala that she and Karlie attended). She left it all behind for happiness.
It’s time to go is knowing when to leave a generally toxic situation whether it’s a job, romantic or platonic relationship. When you’re at a job for 20 years and you don’t get the promotion, the boss’ son does. When you notice your partner look at another person a certain way, not as friends even though they say otherwise, you have that gut feeling…
…or when you expect something different from your partner and it’s the same thing over and over and you’re lost again with no surprises, only disappointments…
and finally, when you’ve been asking to own your work for years only to be shot down every single time and have them sold to someone else out of spite. <—this is why I said this was a Scott song because it references her old label drama.

Guys I stg you need to watch this show. It’s the BBC Atlantis. We need to bring this boi back and lemme tell ya why:
—time travel
Okay, so the premise is that this boi, Jason (like the Argonaut), comes from modern times looking for his dad in the middle of the ocean. He crashes his submarine and wakes up in Atlantis, a Greek city, and is told that he comes from Atlantis and is destined to save the city
—action/adventure
Jason meets Pythagoras (like the triangle theorem) and Hercules, and they take him in bc Pythagoras insists on it since Jason has nowhere else to go. Jason draws trouble like a magnet and there’s cool adventures and sword fighting and mythological creatures
—strong female peeps
Notable female characters are Pasiphae, Ariadne, Medusa, and the Oracle. There are also several other women that pop up (including this very badass, very hot archer lady who follows Artemis) and all of them are very very strong and I love them
—mythology/magic
Where are all y’all PJO peeps at. This follows several Greek myths (not always accurately, but still very cool in how it’s adapted), as well as magic-y stuff. This includes the Labyrinth, the Minotaur, Furies, the Maenads (followers of Dionysus), and others
—political intrigue
Big bad is always trying to take over the city and going about various ways to do this, but the way all of the parts work together is very cool and fresh, bc it’s basically the big bad and then Jason’s group as well as Ariadne trying to thwart the big bad, so you see multiple different levels of interaction
—wholesome romance
Kinda sad tho, but ultimately wholesome. Romance between Ariadne and Jason, and Hercules and Medusa (y’all they’re so sweet?? I’m—)
—hurt/comfort
My boys get hurt but they get their comfort and their healing and it’s all very nice
—GAY
This one to a lesser degree bc it was cancelled before it could truly pick up, but in season two we have A CONFIRMED GAY COUPLE and these boys are so sweet and their chemistry was so good and their storyline was not only somewhat heartbreaking but it had a happy ending and they KISSED and it was adorable. Also, in season one Hercules is confirmed to have slept with at least one (1) man.
It’s written by the same peeps that wrote Merlin, but carried out much better and we actually get the confirmation of the very obvious chemistry and I happy stimmed so much

Author’s Note: My first foray into a wonderful new source of writing prompts. I would like to make a habit of writing something for most, if not all prompts for this from here on out. And there is an archive with a couple dozen that I’ve missed that I may peruse at my leisure.
Also, for those unfamiliar with my writing style, I tend to flip back and forth between using Nana and Setsuna, not just between scenes, but in the middle of  them as well, depending on when she changes.
Summary: Nana realizes she forgot something and ponders how it happened

Ah, it’s good to be home. Nana thought to herself as she removed her shoes before heading toward her room. It had been a long, but productive day for both Nana and Setsuna.
The student council was ramping up its preparations for the upcoming combined events of the second School Idol Festival and the Cultural Festival, which had Nana running around to check on various individuals or having them come to her. She had also spent several cumulative hours on the phone when in-person meetings were not possible for whatever reason.
All the while, the School Idol Club was also getting busier. And now, in addition to more intense training for the Festival, Setsuna was setting aside time to rehearse a mini play with Ayumu and Shizuku.
At least no important tests were coming up soon. Still, Nana knew she needed to get some studying in tonight. And maybe reread a few chapters of one of her favorite novels, since the next book in the series was slated for release later in the week.
Nana paused as something in her mirror caught her eye.
Wait…
Oh no…
Slowly, she reached up to confirm, as though perhaps her eyes were deceiving her. Unfortunately, her fingers confirmed the truth.
Setsuna’s gold triangle clip was still in Nana’s hair.
How had she been so careless? Had she really been so busy as to overlook such an important detail? Or was she simply that much out of practice?
Ayumu…
No.
No. No. No. She was not going to blame Ayumu for this.
Nana had been enjoying the recently developed habit of letting one of her closest friends help her change back and forth between her identities. But obviously, she had become a bit dependent on it, such that when she needed to do so herself, she was now prone to being sloppy.
Memories filled Nana’s mind as she thought about some of the key events that lead to this potential disaster.

Setsuna couldn’t stop smiling if she wanted to. She loved a good morning practice session as not only was it related to the school idol activities she adored, it also helped rev her up for the day. But now it was time to get ready for class, to which she also looked forward.
Even though the first School Idol Festival was over, there was no reason to let up. No other Live events were currently planned, but the Club, or any of its members, could decide to set up something at any point. As such, it was best to keep a steady routine of practice. And of course, Setusna did love practice for its own sake, so there was that as well.
With her school uniform donned, it was time for her hair.
“Would you like help with that, Setsuna-chan?” a voice asked from nearby.
The offer was followed immediately by a snicker from someone else.
Setsuna turned to find a gently smiling Ayumu and a smugly grinning Yuu. “You want to braid my hair for me, Ayumu-san?” She asked, despite being pretty sure that had been the offer.
“Yes, if you don’t mind.” Ayumu confirmed.
Mind? Of course, she didn’t mind. Over the last few months, Setsuna had come to love when Ayumu worked with her hair. But she had never considered asking her to do something as simple as help her with the loose braids she used when in Nana mode.
Suddenly, Ayumu lurched forward. “Y-Yuu-chan?” She questioned having apparently been pushed.
Yuu laughed. “Oh, just go do it already. We all know you want to. And Setsuna-chan loves when you work with her hair, just like I do. And I love watching the transformations between Setsuna and Nana.”
“Thank you, Ayumu-san.” Setsuna said as the redhead stepped behind her.
“Mm.” Ayumu replied happily as her deft fingers began their work.
Unsurprisingly, Ayumu was faster than Setsuna herself in creating the braids. Although, despite the significantly shorter session, compared to when Ayumu would dry and brush her hair after bathing during a sleepover, it was nonetheless quite enjoyable.
“There we go.” Ayumu said upon completion. “Shall we head to class, Nana-chan?”
“Mm.” Nana nodded in agreement before putting on her glasses.

Setsuna finished securing her ribbon before glancing over to see Ayumu doing the same. The other girl looked up and smiled when their eyes met. It was that time again.
In just a few short days, it had become somewhat of a tradition that if Ayumu was present when Setsuna needed to transform back into Nana, Ayumu would be the one to braid her hair. And occasionally Ayumu would even help with Nana transforming to Setsuna, though not all of the time; sometimes Setsuna felt like doing that transformation a bit more dramatically.
“Ne, Ayumu.” Yuu suddenly spoke up. “We have a bit of extra time this morning. Think you could teach me to braid Nana-chan’s hair?”
“Eh?” Ayumu blinked. “Uhm, sure, if Se… Nana-chan is fine with it.” She seemed momentarily confused with Yuu’s name choice as Setsuna was still Setsuna, for the moment.
“It’s fine.” Setsuna assured, finding herself curious as to how it might feel to have Yuu work with her hair instead.
“Yay!” Yuu cheered before bouncing behind Setsuna.
“Alright, first you divide her hair like this.” Ayumu started.
Two hands, guided by two others, began the braiding process. It was unquestionably slower than when either Ayumu or Setsuna performed the process. However, Yuu’s fingers, made dexterous by all of the piano practice she had been performing over the last few months, adapted quickly to the new skill being learned. And it didn’t take long for Setsuna to realize she quite enjoyed Yuu’s handiwork as well.
“And there you go.” Ayumu said after a couple minutes. “Good work, Yuu-chan.”
“Thanks, Ayumu.” Yuu replied. “I know I’m still nowhere near as good as Ayumu with such things, but maybe I can still learn enough to help you all prep for Lives and such.”
“Well, if you want to practice more, I do change a lot.” Nana offered.
“Thanks, Nana-chan.” Yuu acknowledged. “I may take you up on that. But not too much, as I wouldn’t want to take too much away from one of Ayumu’s favorite pastimes.” She winked at her childhood friend beside her.
“Y-Yuu-chan…” Ayumu protested mildly, earning a laugh from the twintailed girl.
And with that, the tradition had been augmented. Yuu would occasionally step in for practice or would make the offer if Ayumu was elsewise unavailable. And with how much time she spent with the two in general, Setsuna found herself rarely braiding her own hair to transform into Nana. It became almost entirely limited to her morning preparations at home. Not that she minded in the slightest.

Setsuna’s phone vibrated on the kotatsu, so she reached over to pick it up. Noticing the caller, she quickly retrieved and donned her glasses before answering. She was also grateful that Yuu tapped a key on Ayumu’s laptop to pause the music that had been playing.
“Yes, Nakagawa speaking.” She said. “Yes. … Yes. … I see. One moment.”
Setsuna muted her side of the call. She then slid her glasses down her nose so she could open her eyes and not have the double correction of both them and her contacts affect her vision.
“Ayumu-san, Yuu-san.” she addressed the other occupants of the kotatsu. “This call may take a while. Is there somewhere else I may go so as not to disturb you?”
The three girls were once again gathered in Ayumu’s room for a study session, as they did at least once a week as of late. And sometimes, like tonight, they gathered on the weekend as well. That meant they could spend that much more time studying, without Setsuna needing to keep track of time so she could catch a train back home as she would be spending the night here. Plus, there was the added bonus that they would reward themselves for their hard work by gathering around Ayumu’s laptop to watch anime.
But Shioriko had just requested a conference call with Nana, the student council vice president and whoever else from the council could join. Apparently, some new challenge to the preparations had arisen and needed to be addressed as soon as possible.
Ayumu smiled and shook her head. “You’re fine, Setsuna-chan.”
“Yeah, it’s probably time for a break anyway.” Yuu said, leaning back to stretch. “Say, you guys want a snack or something?” She pushed herself out from under the table.
“Mama made a fresh batch of cookies for us to eat tonight.” Ayumu pointed out.
“Hee… I know.” Yuu grinned. “That’s what I was gonna get. And I’ll grab some juice or something as well while I’m at it.” And with that she left the room.
“Are you sure you’re fine with me staying here?” Setsuna asked again.
“Mhm.” Ayumu nodded, also pushing herself out from under the kotatsu before crawling over behind Setsuna.
“Ayumu-san?”
“You said the call may take a while.” Ayumu said, running a hand through Setsuna’s hair. “So, let’s get you as fully into Nana as possible.”
“Oh… alright. Thank you, Ayumu-san.” Setsuna agreed before pushing back up her glasses and closing her eyes. She then unmuted her call to reply to something the vice president had asked.

So, that is what had done her in. Nana sighed in realization as she removed the clip and undid her braids so as to resecure her hair in the loose twin-tails she wore in the evening.
It hadn’t been Ayumu or Yuu’s kindness in offering their aid over the last couple months. Rather, it had been her own complacency as she focused too much on enjoying the kindness instead of remembering to stay sharp when swapping between and maintaining her identities.
This afternoon, Ayumu had to run an errand for her parents before going home and had left practice early. Also, Yuu had been unable to attend idol practice as she was busy with something for her music course. Thus, Setsuna had been left to her own devices to ensure she changed back to Nana before leaving the clubroom and heading to the student council room. And she had failed to do so properly.
On the plus side, it had been quite late, so the school had been mostly empty. But that was still part of the problem, it hadn’t been completely empty. There had still been potential witnesses to Nana’s errant display. She scoured her mind to form a list.
There had been Junko Ouchi, a second year in the information course who she passed on the stairs, though Nana didn’t think she noticed anything. Nori Yamane, a first year in the general course was running in the halls, so Nana stopped her, though she seemed too distracted to have noticed. And then there was…
Mifune Shioriko…
Shioriko had a discerning eye for detail. And she had been on the right side to have ample opportunity to notice the clip. And worse, she was familiar with both Nana and Setsuna.
Would Shioriko say anything if she had noticed?
Was it alright if one more person knew her secret?
Should she talk to Shioriko about the incident? Try to get ahead of any possible scandal?
But what if she hadn’t actually noticed? Should she risk mentioning it at all?
“Nana!” Her mother’s voice dragged Nana back to reality. “We’re home.”
“Welcome back.” Nana responded, heading toward the entry of the apartment. “Something smells good.” She commented upon arriving.
“We picked up some of your favorite on our way home tonight.” Mrs. Nakagawa said, motioning to the takeout bag in her husband’s hand. “Have you eaten yet?”
Nana shook her head. “I just got back myself.”
“The student council really has been keeping you busy these days, hasn’t it.” A statement more than a question.
“Mm.” Nana nodded.
“But your father and I know the student body is in good hands with our daughter in charge.”
Nana smiled at the compliment.
“Would you mind bringing the food to the table while your father and I get ready?”
“Of course.” Nana took the bag from her father and headed to the dining room.
It wasn’t the most common of occurrences that all three of them were able to share a meal together, so Nana thoughts now turned to a nice evening with her parents.

Author’s Note Continued: First off, I’ve no idea if this will conflict with the events of Episode 6, as it has not aired yet as of originally posting this. As such, at least over on AO3, I will be sorting it into a new Event collection for Femslash Friday and will wait to see what Episode 6 reveals, or doesn’t reveal for that matter, before integrating it into TA proper. How I handle possible discrepancies here on Tumblr, I guess I’ll figure that out later, if I need to.
Next, the names Setsuna lists of girls she encountered in the halls of the school are not actual characters in the Love Live franchise, at least not as far as my knowledge is concerned. I just grabbed them from an online random name generator set to Japanese.
Third, yeah, this is yet another chapter about Ayumu working with Setsuna’s hair, but what can I say? I love the concept. And I really like the idea of Ayumu starting to help Setsuna swap back and forth with Nana.
As for Yuu, I’ve been looking for an excuse to write about her learning about styling hair. And what better way than for her to start with someone to whom she is close, like Setsuna? I will probably explore this idea further in future chapters.
And finally, I doubt I will ever cease being amused by Setsuna putting on her glasses, presumably while still wearing her contacts, just for the sake of answering the phone as Nana. And I will almost certainly well end up bringing that aspect of her over to my other fics as well. Ar at least MA, as I’m still figuring out how she feels about Nana in PoH.

The link between Rylie and Prisma
At this point, the comic has made it pretty clear that those two are linked somehow… They look extremely alike, Prisma recognizes Rylie and even knows her name.

Alright so, what do we know exactly ?
I’ve made a handy relationship chart, and I even included some more people that will be talked about when elaborating the different possibilities :

So why would Prisma and Rylie look so alike ?
The main possibilities are :
They are Family
They are reincarnation of the other
A mix of both
However, we know there are at least 1000 years separating them, so direct family might be tricky, unless…. 
But we’ll get to that later.

I won’t address the reason why Yellow wants Rylie dead and why did Amadeus do that to Prisma because we simply do not have enough informations. 
Enough rambling, time to dive.
Rylie is Prisma’s reincarnation
From the looks of it, this is the most obvious one. They look like each other, they live 1000 years apart, and reincarnation has been ‘‘confirmed’’ in canon. It’s even part of Stratoverse’s culture.

Purple states that : “I assume me, and anyone else who changed color are somehow related to the Mancer’s servants”. He doesn’t say it’s reincarnation, it could be a bloodline “curse”, but going off what we know, reincarnation is very likely.

Upon seeing Violet, Rylie’s first reaction confirms that they looks like Purple. That could be proof enough that Rylie is also a reincarnation, except the reincarnation of a Mancer instead of a Color.

But there’s one detail that ticks me off.
Names.

Rylie’s name reveal is pretty important. Names in gloomverse, more often than not, have meaning pertaining to their magic abilities. Rylie remained unnamed, solely known as “Assistant”, until after she got her magic. But as opposed to the Colors, this is mostly for symbolic (and comedic) purposes, as she had a name before that, and it also started with R. Meanwhile, the Colors had their name overwritten after gaining magic. 
This hasn’t been made explicit in comic yet, and sure, some gloomversians have weird names like Triangle or Pi, but that would be an enormous coincidence, wouldn’t it ? Especially for the colors whose countries have particular naming trend (for example, if Orange was their birth name, wouldn’t it be Egnaro ?). 
Virga also mentions to Yellow that Madame President “has Red, Blue, Indigo and Violet… though he goes by Purple.” so Purple did change his name, yet he kept the color naming trend. Sure they could all have decided to change name after gaining magic, but like I said, that would be a pretty big coincidence.
Let’s go back to Rylie. Her name didn’t change to Prisma after getting magic. She didn’t change color, and she didn’t change names. Prisma even calls her ‘‘Rylie’’, not Royletta or Greenwitch, but Rylie. Her preferred name. For me, this seems like a statement that she is her own individual, and not a reincarnation. 
However, her middle name is ‘‘Greenwitch’’, and Prisma is a green haired and eyed mancer, a green witch. It’s quite possibly Prisma’s last name. Maybe only that name was passed down to her ? If that’s the case, it seems more like a “they’re family” than a “they’re reincarnation” proof.
Another point is that Prisma looks very much alive and conscious, albeit trapped somewhere. For a reincarnation to happen, you would need the individual to be dead. 
TL;DR : Rylie is not Prisma’s reincarnation, because Prisma is not dead, and Rylie still has her own name.
Rylie is Prisma’s descendant
Yellow has been seen with a baby during Rylie’s nightmares, and in the most recent chapter, she is currently in labor. There’s a lot of emphasis on that baby, it would be weird if they weren’t relevant to the story somehow (see Chekhov's gun).

We don’t know the identity of the other parent yet. Violet is a good candidate, they seem worried, they have the parental stress, it could make sense. But for this theory and the next ones, we’ll say that Prisma is the parent. She literally arrives screaming about Yellow, asking about her health, clearly upset that she isn’t at her side. (And like friends pointed out, it would make Prisma a transparent, a very good pun that i love).
 We don’t know if the baby survived Amadeus’ attack. Maybe they didn’t, maybe the same thing that happened to Prisma happened to them, or maybe they got to grow up and live their life, have a family and die of old age.

Yellow has been tracking someone’s family line. There’s a lot of generations here, probably enough to cover the lineage of someone for 1000 years. We know she’s been tracking the Colors, and she’s been looking for someone, who happens to be Rylie. She recognize her instantly. She’s shocked, she’s sad, she’s nostalgic. She’s seeing the face of an old friend for the first time in many many years, photography being a recent invention in Gloomverse.

But after this many years, and this many generations, why would they look so alike ?
Well, Purple looks like Violet, he might be their descendant like Rylie is Prisma’s. His face didn’t change when getting magic, he still look like himself as a kid. But in his case, he is most likely a reincarnation of Violet, and thus has the same face and features, while Rylie is not a reincarnation of Prisma, just a descendant.

One thing to note : 
Yellow learn Rylie’s name (Royletta) by looking at the journal : she doesn’t recognize the name, she hesitates when saying it. The journal calls her Royletta G. Biv, and not Royletta Greenwitch Biv, so we don’t know if she would have recognized the name Greenwitch. Meanwhile, Prisma knew that her name was Rylie. She has no ways of knowing this, except if she’s been spying on her or listening to some conversations. Perhaps Amadeus can still talk to her.
TL;DR : It’s very likely that Rylie is Prisma’s descendant from the same family line that Yellow is tracking. However it doesn’t explain why they look alike.
Rylie is Prisma’s child’s reincarnation 
This theory is based of the previous one, and the arguments are mostly the same. 
The difference is that instead of being Prisma’s descendant from a bloodline perspective, she is the reincarnation of Prisma’s child, the baby Yellow was holding, but not necessarily a direct descendant.
We don’t know what happens to Yellow’s child after Amadeus is done with Prisma. He just murdered some people, why not a baby ? In her first nightmare, the dark figures turns towards Rylie and says : “Now… It’s your turn.” and she feels as if it’s addressed to her, even though it was likely aimed at Yellow and the baby.

Yellow is still here. The baby is not. 
If the baby is dead, then they can reincarnate, and just like Purple ended up looking just like Violet, Rylie looks a lot like her past baby self’s mom, just like a daughter can looks like her mother, just like the baby would have looked if they had the chance to grow up.
Makes sense right ?
Well I have an objection. 
The Colors changed hue after gaining magic, and the fact that they reincarnate might be due to how the alphas got their magic. Harold changed color scheme when the dark overlord gave him a hat and magic that weren’t “his”, so maybe that’s what happened to the Colors ? 
Because the baby was too young to have magic, I don’t think they would have reincarnated if they died like that, without magic. 
TL;DR : While it would explain how they look so alike, we don’t know if Prisma’s child could have reincarnated when dying as a magicless baby
Rylie is Prisma’s child
The simplest solution : Rylie looks like Prisma because she’s her direct daughter. No reincarnation shenanigans going on.
But how would it possible with 1000 years separating them ? Rylie is seventeen in the comic, and we even see her parents.

Let’s start with the 1000 years problem :
Thanks to the recent appearance of Prisma, we know that she’s not as dead as we first thought. She disappeared without a trace, but Amadeus didn’t completely destroy her. She seems stuck somewhere, a timeless space, a dream or a memory. Amadeus can hide hats in shadows, he can summon lemon kids from shadows, at this point I wouldn’t be surprised if he could hide people in those shadows. 
After making Prisma disappears, he looks towards Yellow and the baby - its their turn now.
If he can keep Prisma alive in a timeless prison for 1000 years, he can do the same for a baby ! But why free her now ?

Petunia ask him if its not “getting harder for you to do” and his answer is not very convincing. He could be getting tired, or weaker over time, and decided that keeping a baby prisoner like that was maybe an overreaction, and let her be.

That turned out well, didn’t it ?
And this is pure speculation, but spending this much time in a pocket dimension made by a dark overlord might have changed her appearance. It would explain why she has black hair and eyes when Prisma and Yellow don’t.
What about Rylie’s parents ? She looks like them, there’s no reason to believe they’re not her parents. Well she could be adopted, it’s common for couples to adopt a child that looks like them. And if you’ve read beta gloomverse, you might remember that Assistant’s dad tells him he’s adopted. It could be a lie, it could have been written off, but its not negligible.

TL;DR : Rylie is Prisma’s direct child, that Amadeus kept locked away for 1000 years before letting her go and she got adopted by her current parents.
Rylie and Prisma are sisters
This one is a bit more complicated than the others, but bear with me.
Let’s start easy with : Who would be the parents ? 
In this theory, Yellow would be Rylie and Prisma’s mom, with Rylie being the baby she was holding, the little sister to Prisma. Siblings tend to look like each other, and the 1000 years difference can be explained like in the previous theory.
Alright then, who's the other parent ? Amadeus, or Hobo as we’ve come to know him. Yes I know, this is a bit crazy, but I like exploring possibilities.
So we would have this kind of Family tree !

What are my proofs then ? This is kind of a crazy looking theory ! 
Well I don’t have any, really. We know Amadeus was alive at this time period, and that Yellow knew them by name.

Rylie has some of Amadeus features, black hair, and her eyes even turn red on occasions, like his ‘‘dark overlord form’’. Rylie and Prisma’s skin color is an intermediary between his and Yellow’s, and Prisma’s green hair show that she has ecoversian roots despite coming from Stratoverse, which confirms that Yellow could be her mom.
It would also make Rylie, Harold and Wallis siblings, which has been alluded to already. In the dreamscape, Rylie imagine them as kids, sharing a childhood, like siblings.

As much as I think it was worth mentioning, I don’t like this theory. Mostly because it destroys the meaning of the line “We may not be bond by blood...but we’re still family... no matter what.” by dream!Wallis. It throws the message of “found family can be more important than blood family” in the garbage by making them blood family.

Also at this point, Hobo would deserves the worst father award for his very bad parenting techniques. 
TL;DR : If Rylie and Prisma were sisters with Amadeus and Yellow as their parents, the found family trope would die.

The dispatch Jan 1 drops and drops generally are so shady sometimes. Remember when Yuri was embroiled in a lesbian love triangle rumor, and then all of a sudden she was confirmed to be dating a male baseball player who she never saw again? Jennie and G dragon was such a PR romance. Then there was Momo and Heechul who were leaked by a random company no one had ever heard of and Heechul/SM used it for PR for a year whilst there's video of Momo on the verge of a panic attack when their relationship is mentioned by him and his co hosts at an event? What even goes on. You also have Mina and Bambam's scandal caused by a fan edit which the maker said was fake, but JYP said was real, which may or may not have been to cover up Bambam being photographed with his actual girlfriend.
I don't remember over half of these since I wasn't here for them but I'm just glad there wasn't an idol reveal this year. if anything there'll be another actors romance but that's never as harsh as when kpop idols are revealed to be dating

"i cannot believe we're gonna get to witness this," yunho says excitedly, plopping down on the bed as he nudges your arm playfully.
"oh god, don't make a fool of us," mingi grumbles at him from across the room. "i can already see you blurting out some nonsense."
you had texted them right after yeosang had invited you to go an amusement park with him and the boys last night. he had gotten a text from hongjoong just minutes before he dropped you home, informing him of the plan and making it known you specifically were invited.
and you were hesitant at first, for obvious reasons involving a handsome boy and lingering tension, but then innocently asked him if you'd be able to invite some friends of your own.
"tall pretty boy who tried to break my skull?" he asked sarcastically, looking over at you in the passenger seat.
"the very same," you quip with a smile, "and yunho, the new boy." you wiggle your feet nervously as you wait for his answer, his eyes casting down to catch the slight movement.
you think it'd be nice to merge your friend groups, let all the boys meet and befriend each other and maybe even see if mingi could find anything, even the smallest thing, endearing about your boyfriend; you obviously don't need the boy's full approval but it'd be nice if they could at least get along and be amicable.
"would you feel more comfortable if they came?" he asks lowly, snaking his hand over to grab yours gently. you look down shyly, watching as he interlaces his fingers with yours before his thumb starts moving across your skin.
"i mean i wouldn't feel uncomfortable without them..." you tell him truthfully, "but i don't know, i think it'd be nice."
his other hand catches your jaw, turning your head so your soft, relaxed features meet his. a small smile  crosses your face at the expression he's wearing and he bites his lip to hide his own.
"what?" you squeak.
"nothing," he hums. but it's not nothing, the tugging in his heart as he watches you look at him with sparkling eyes and a smile he's gonna hate to leave tonight; it's also not helping, at all, that your lips are still puffy and red from hours of making out and fumbling under the blankets on his couch.
"if you want them there, they can come," he says softly, "i'll make sure there's enough room in the car."
you smile at him, moving forward to peck his cheek in gratitude. but he's quick to catch your face when you try to pull back, bringing your lips to his gently. you smile against them, giggle muffled by his mouth as he wraps his hand around the back of your neck to pull you impossibly closer.
he leans his forehead on yours when his lungs burn for air, looking into your slightly glossed over eyes. "but you better tell mingi to be on his best behavior."
"weren't you the one warned to be on your best behavior?" yunho asks sarcastically, looking up at your face that holds a chastising, warning look. it already took an hour of begging via group facetime to get mingi to agree this morning, your pouts and yunho's whines nearly driving him on the brink of insanity until he finally said yes.
"weren't you the one begging me to come an hour ago?" mingi snaps harshly as he rolls his eyes. you knock into yunho's shoulder assuringly, shaking your head at the boy's grouchiness before hesitantly going over to poke his chest.
"mingi..." you whine, the smallest hint of pout making its way on your face when your gazes meet. it takes you a minute to see it but then it's like the realization hits you all at once: his irritable, the swirling in his eyes, the way he so adamantly said he didn't want to be around a group of people.
he lets out a small sigh, his eyes roaming your face before looking over yunho who's watching him with a guarded expression. "i'm...i'm sorry." the boy on your bed raises his eyebrow at the apology, your eyes trained on mingi's face as you watch his lids shut.
"are you...did you really not wanna come?" you squeak out, "i'm sorry if you feel like we forced you but-"
"stop," his deep voice commands quickly, eyes popping open and filtering back and forth between you two. "i'm just being...annoying. i don't like big groups and i get-"
"bitchy? obnoxious? dramatic?"
you side-eye yunho, hard eyes telling him to stop until a ghost of a smile quirks up at mingi's lips. "anxious, shithead. i get anxious and nervous, okay."
"but you have us," yunho says walking over to where you're both standing and throwing an arm around your shoulder.
"yeah, you have us," you repeat gently, "and if at anytime you wanna leave, just say.....hm...porcupine! yeah, that'll be our safe word. one hint of the word porcupine and we're out."
"safe word?" yunho mumbles in your ear, hearing the perverted smirk. "interesting word choice." you elbow the boy harshly to see mingi look at the both of you with a shy, almost touched smile.
"really?" he asks and the childlike way he says it is such a contrast to his towering appearance and deep voice.
and just as you're about to confirm, yunho's arm is off of you and around mingi, squeezing at his shoulder affectionately. "really," he says, "i'll even hold your hand if you want. how 'bout that, princess?"
"fuck off," mingi grumbles, attempting to push the boy away to hide the blush working its way on his cheeks. but you catch it immediately, biting your lip so a wide smile doesn't appear on your face; if you didn't know any better, you'd think-
your phone vibrating on your dresser grabs your attention, running over to answer with a smile when you see yeosang's name pop up on the screen. yunho and mingi watch a smile light up your face as you greet him, running over to your window to see a familiar g-wagon waiting outside your house.
you end the call with a giggle and a shush, turning around to look at the two boys watching you. "are you guys ready?" you ask, looking over both of them before your eyes land on mingi. "you can porcupine right now, if you need."
but something tells you he doesn't, not with the way yunho's at his side and the way their arms are brushing ever so slightly.
"no, i'm-i'm good," he says before a smirk pulls at his lips. "let's go see this love triangle in the flesh."
your face falls as a deep blush floods to your cheeks, throwing your hands over them and running out your bedroom door as deep chuckles ring into the hallway. you listen to them not so secretly conspire to keep a close eye on all three 'subjects,' turning around to shoot them a dirty look when you hear them say pda is an added bonus.
the three of you squeeze into the car with a chorus of hi and introductions, mingi and yunho's lanky limbs managing to get in the back as you plop down in the middle of the second row. your eyes meet seonghwa's in the rear-view mirror almost instantly, shooting him a small smile that he gives right back.
it's a strange feeling to be back in this car when almost two months ago, you were up in the front with him. overjoyed but also so incredibly nervous at the prospect of sitting just a few inches away from him with a fluttering heart sharing shy, soft gazes.
"do you want?"
seonghwa looks at you for a few seconds, then into the bag, nodding his head towards the pretzels. you open the bag for him, tipping it towards him as he takes one out.
the indistinct chatter of the three boys picks up and you put your hand in seonghwa's bag, munching on one secretly. but he's quick to catch you, throwing a smirk at you with a mock chastising look.
"hey..." he says and you smile with your cheeks full of a pretzel  you swallow before fishing back in the bag, taking one out and holding it up to seonghwa's mouth.
"here," you say sweetly and the back of your mind takes note of how different you sound talking to him and then to the boy in the back. how warm and fuzzy you feel with seonghwa, then hot and prickly with yeosang.
seonghwa takes the food from your mouth with a smile, happy eyes meeting yours when his mouth closes around it. you pretend your stomach doesn't tighten when his wet lip touches your finger.
yeosang throws his arm around the back of your seat, ripping you from the memory. his hand slips right into your hair as he throws a smug smile at mingi, "hi, pretty boy. i'm glad you were able to make it."
mingi resists the urge to growl and flip him off, instead deciding to narrow his eyes at the boy. "can't say the same, asshole."
yeosang smirks before holding out his fist to bump yunho's, a contrast of polite smiles and words exchanged. he cranes his neck back to look down at you, resting his cheek on your head slightly to mumble "hey," in your ear.
"hi," you say softly with a smile. "are you excited?"
"excited?!" you hear a high pitched voice from the back, mingi and yunho jumping in their seats and letting out surprised yelps.
"i told you you were gonna scared them, you little freak," hongjoong grumbles from the front seat.
"i didn't mean to! i was looking through the snack bag and didn't hear them." you crane your neck back to see san has yet again, got pushed to the trunk.
"hi, san," you smile at him with a wave. you watch for a few seconds mingi and yunho fall under his spell, visibly making the glasses-wearing boy relax before turning your attention to yeosang who's already looking at you.
"what?" you ask quietly, your lips jutting out ever so slightly as you look at him. his jaw ticks as he shakes his head, craning his neck to look out the window before back at you.
and if your lips weren't enough, your wide-eyed, innocent gaze surely did him in.
"i wasn't gonna kiss you in front of everyone," he mumbles lowly in your ear, his hot breath bringing goosebumps to your neck. "but if you keep looking at me like that, i just might have to."
you're about to respond with something snarky, like how non-threatening that is or how much you really want that. but then that idea of a burning pair of eyes in the rearview mirror makes your stomach sink, just causes you to quietly giggle and knock his hard stomach with your elbow.
when you get to the amusement park an hour later, new bffs wooyoung, san, yunho and mingi are quick to barrel out of the car the second the doors are open. hongjoong and seonghwa share a look with you and yeosang that has you both chuckling, the shorter boy shaking his head and already regretting this trip.
"i swear to god, we can never do this- no! nope! that is not the entrance!" hongjoong's voice shouts at the four boys ahead, seonghwa snorting at the way it squeaks before the boy grunts out again when it only causes wooyoung and san to run faster in the wrong direction.
"they are so damn annoying," seonghwa grumbles as him and hongjoong speed up to meet up with them. you and yeosang watch in amusement as each of them drag each boy by the ear.
"they're like a mom and dad," you giggle up at yeosang, smiling softly when you see a look of indifference on his face.
"it's always been like that," yeosang hums, "those annoying little fucks."
"they're funny," you whine, pushing into him lightly, "and you're the brooding, moody teenage brother who's going through a phase." yeosang side-eyes, your giggle at his 'serious' face quickly turning into a tiny squeal when he drags you by the arm and behind a parked car.
"yeosang!" you squeal, "what are you doing? we're gonna-"
your back is pressed up against the car before his lips are on yours, the words dying in your throat as you kiss him back almost immediately. his hands move to your waist when your mouths part, lips melting into one another as they so naturally do.
his tongue teases to slip in and touch yours, a quiet moan attempting to leave your mouth before you realize you're very much in public leaning on a random person's car.
you break the kiss as you lean back, chest heaving ever so slightly as you look at his lustful gaze.
"we're gonna lose them," you get out causing him to roll his eyes and squeeze your hips gently.
"we'll find them," he hums, bringing his hand up to trace your red lips. "i just needed to do that. in private."
because while you'd both prefer not to kiss in front of people in general, it goes without saying you definitely don't wanna shove your newfound affection in someone's face. he sees your mouth part ever so slightly, like you're about to say something, before it snaps close and your tongue pokes the inside of your cheek.
"what?" he hums, not liking the sad, dejected look that crosses your face.
"nothing," you say quietly, "i just....i feel bad. don't you think it's...kind of awkward?"
because you can't stop thinking about the parallels from the car, about how just a month ago this could've been you and seonghwa making out and holding one another. and you're grateful to see the boy doesn't seem mad or hostile, that he's still smiling and acknowledging you. but the whole situation just makes you feel...awkward and bad and maybe even a little dirty.
"it'll probably be weird for a little," he says honestly, voice dropped into the deep sweetness you've come to love and still can't believe is leaving this bully's mouth. "but he'll be good. perhaps you're giving yourself a little too much credit, hm?"
your eyes widen as your mouth drops open, a huff leaving your mouth as you smack him. "you're still such a bully," you exclaim, stomping off towards the entrance of the park as footsteps and a deep chuckle come up from behind you. he catches you around the waist, burying his face in your neck and placing feather light kisses on your skin.
"you're still such a baby," he mumbles, feeling him smile against your skin which without fail, brings a reluctant one to your face.
"just shut up, you're only good for kissing these days."
when you both meet up with the others on the line, you catch yunho's gaze and see him smile at you before his eyes move to mingi talking to san. you both share an excited look back and forth, happy he was able to get comfortable so fast.
yeosang guides you into the crowded park by the small of your back as the eight of you make your way around the park. you bounce around from one rollercoaster to the next, your sweaty palm in yeosang's every time you're getting strapped in and taking off up a hill. you hear the shouts of your friends behind you, wooyoung's screech begging to get him off and san playfully remarking that he peed his pants.
the day goes smoothly, the wait in line almost being more fun than the right itself with all the playful banter and bickering. one of the most chaotic games of rock, paper, scissors you've ever been a part of landing the two biggest cowards sitting in the front (and one of them was absolutely you).
you get off the ride with windblown hair, yeosang checking you with a smile and mockingly clapping his hands that you were able to survive. your hands and arms clumsily knock into one another as you make your au down the ramp and follow behind the others.
you feel yeosang hands rake through the knotty strands of your tangled hair from behind you. "stop!" you whine, feeling his finger tangle into another knot and pull at your scalp.
"y/n, it's a mess," he laughs out.
you turn around to smack his stomach lightly, narrowing your eyes at him before turning back around. but then he does it again, another pinch to your scalp causing you to yelp out uncontrollably.
"you're hurting me, yeosang!"
your body slams into a hard chest, your gaze traveling up to see seonghwa's eyes trained right on yeosang behind you. you swallow when you see his tensed jaw, his eyes dark and guarded and hitting you with the harsh reminder that he was always there for you when yeosang would actually set out to upset and harm you.
"forget how to be nice?" you spat because it's the only thing you can think to say to him.
"forget that i don't give a shit if i'm nice or not to your kind?" yeosang growls, advancing toward you more and you swallow nervously. you step back further and your foot hits a large plant box, causing it to topple down and your cheeks flame when you hear the loud shattering of glass against the wood floor.
you hear the murmuring and chuckles of your classmates and a scornful laugh leaves his mouth.
"see, you don't belong here, y/n, and you shouldn't have even-"
a tall figure rushes out from behind you, grabbing yeosang by the jacket and pushing him up against a nearby column. you can faintly hear the dramatic gasps of your classmates, some of them whipping out their phones to record.
"are you fucking serious," you hear seonghwa's deep voice shout and you know you should probably pull him off of him. but your feet are glued, the harsh yell of seonghwa ringing in your ears.
"get off me," is all the other boy responds, not trying to push the boy off but shooting daggers at him. seonghwa's speaking so lowly, so harshly that you're not able to make out the next few words until seonghwa throws yeosang off the column harshly, nearly knocking the boy to the floor.
"i'm warning you, yeosang, you better watch yourself," you hear seonghwa growl and the shorter boy squints his eyes at him, walking the few steps to be standing right in front of him.
you don't even realize you're still in seonghwa's warm chest until yeosang pulls you back by the waist, looking over his friend with an hard but understanding expression. because he knows exactly what the boy is thinking, how this is all too familiar to the number of times he'd actually be helping you while he was just trying to push you away.
but it's not like that anymore and if the look in his brown eyes isn't giving that away, his arm possessively wrapped around you certainly does.
seonghwa grunts out an apology before quickly turning around and walking to hongjoong, the two boys talking hushly as they go up the ramp to the rollercoaster. you peer up at yeosang with a slight pout, his hand trailing up your body to grasp your jaw.
he sees the conflict swirling in your eyes, not conflict about your feelings but about the situation in general. how it feels like there's no right way to act or handle this extremely uncomfortable tension; but it's just a phase you all have to through.
"stop," he commands, squeezing your face gently.
"but i-"
"enough, baby, we're here to have fun, okay?" he hums, moving his thumb ever so slightly across your face before his eyes catch mingi and yunho. "speaking of which...what's up with them?"
you move your face out of his hold and turn to see the two tall boys talking hushly, mingi leaning against the wall with his arms crossed as yunho stands directly in front of him; something about it makes mingi look a lot smaller than he is, the dark haired boy's presence looming over him as he looks at the shy boy.
"i don't know," you say, turning back at him to not stare.
"hm," yeosang hums, tongue peeking out playfully as he watches your expression, "your little smile says otherwise."
"okay, so maybe there's just a budding roma-"
"c'monnnn guys!" you hear wooyoung whine from the ride's gate, "we're not gonna be able to sit together if you both don't hurry up!"
you throw the boy a thumbs up as yeosang scoffs and rolls his eyes, the two of you rushing over as mingi and yunho stay against the wall. you look over at mingi who gives you a reassuring smile, shooing you away with his hand.
mingi doesn't go on any other rides for the rest of the day, him and yunho going off to play rigged games and go on the bumper cars until they happen to meet up with you and the others a few hours later at a food stand.
mingi and yunho watch you and yeosang together, the playful hits and natural banter that exudes from both of you. the change in yeosang is almost creepy to see, how he's visibly lighter and more pleasant around you. he still has his dry wit and snarky comments but you'd have to be blind to see how much happier he is around you.
because even when you steal his french fries repeatedly and drink half of his slushy, only a playful pinch to the stomach or a lackluster groan of your name serves as your punishment.
but then there's another side to it, mingi's eyes moving to seonghwa who's eyes stay trained on his food or one of his friends. he watches them with a forced smile, far too tight and not reaching his eyes to be real. he laughs when the others do, speaks when spoken to, and makes sure to never look in your direction.
so maybe it's those observations that soften his cold, guarded heart and get him to blurt out the boy's name when he sees him get up to refill his drink. you and yunho's eyes widen in surprise when you hear the boy speak, "seonghwa, wait up," and follow after him who politely nods and waits.
"which one do you have?" seonghwa turns to ask mingi but then lets out a small chuckle when he sees his blue tinted lips. "oh. blueberry, i guess."
the taller boy smirks and nods, following behind seonghwa as they fill up their large cups; they both linger there for a few moments, mingi because he's far too nervous to speak up and kind of in disbelief he was able to call after him in the first place, and seonghwa because he's dreading going back to the table.
because listening to you giggle and squeal yeosang's name, being reminded of his stupid, idiotic mistake when he heard you say yeosang was hurting you, is far too hard and embarrassing to deal with today.
especially given the fact that the image of you on top of him has been plaguing his mind for the past 18 hours.
"she's feeling really bad," mingi blurts out suddenly.
it rips seonghwa from his unpleasant thoughts, eyebrows furrowed as he looks at the tall boy. he knows exactly who he's talking about, even probably knew deep down why he decided to come with him in the first place, but still asks "what?"
"y/n," mingi chokes out, swallowing the lump forming in his throat and looking back at their table. "she....it wasn't an easy decision for her."
seonghwa licks his lips, pressing them together because he doesn't know what's about to fly out of his mouth right now. "she came back from the ski trip really confused," mingi adds softly, "and then that movie night, she...was so upset. she cried to us because she knew she hurt you and felt really guilty."
seonghwa listens silently, his grip on the cup tightening as he remembers that disaster of a night. how he went from being so stupidly happy to have you under his arm to the rage and sadness that nearly broke his stupid, reckless heart.
"i'm only telling you this because you seem....sad. and i happened to be on your team before everything."
"my team?" is the first thing seonghwa asks, eyebrow cocked causing a slight blush to creep up on mingi face.
"team seonghwa," the boy mumbles almost childishly causing a loud laugh to bubble out of his mouth.
"well thanks," he says, placing his hand on the back of his neck and squeezing nervously, "i'm glad someone was."
mingi's face falters ever so slightly, licking his dry lips. "she really did like you," he mumbles, "i'm sure a part of her still does. but i don't know, her and him, they just..."
"i know," seonghwa says quietly. "and i can't even say i blame her. because i barely knew her but it felt like i was in-" he can't bring himself to say it because then he'll really look even more pathetic and pitiful.
"love at first sight," mingi mumbles, his eyes trailing back over to the table to look at a certain happy, smiley boy. "it's a stupid thing."
seonghwa's eyebrow quirks up, thinking for a second you got yourself into a love rectangle until he sees where his gaze is looking at. a quiet hum leaves his mouth, lips quirking up before he throws his arm around the boy and pats his shoulder reassuringly.
"it is," seonghwa chuckles out, the two boys walking back over to the table, "but maybe you'll have a better luck then me."
"you might still have a chance," mingi says quietly. because from one bleeding heart to another, he can feel just how much he cares about you and wants you to be happy. how loving and and sweet and amazing he'd probably treat you.
seonghwa watches as he approaches the table yeosang whisper in your ear, his lips lingering on your hair as a smile spreads across your face and you push him away playfully.
he's never seen his friend, who right when he hit puberty was known for being an asshole, smile like that. he's never seen his eyes look so light and soft being directed at a person who matched his look of fondness and affection.
"yeah, maybe," seonghwa mumbles, the sinking feeling in his stomach telling him that's probably not the case; but even so, he'll hold on to the hope for just a little longer.

full folklore analysis!!
as promised, here u go. warning very long.
first of all, the album’s name is super important to its meaning. “folklore” is stories passed by mouth, whether spoken or sung, so taylor’s not singing about herself in most of these songs and some of them are linked into a bigger story. i’ll start with individual analysis of each song and then get into the main storyline.
the 1: from the perspective of a girl (our protagonist) that’s been cheated on, hence the line “if it would’ve been me.” she’s looking back on a relationship that was very summer-love-esque and fun while also acknowledging that it wasn’t meant to be and detailing the bittersweetness of that understanding. one of my faves; linked to august, illicit affairs, and betty.
cardigan: from taylor’s perspective about joe and how she met him at a time where most everyone saw her as a snake or a backstabber and was neck-deep in the worst drama she’s ever been in. as she says in miss americana, “falling in love with someone who had a wonderfully normal, balanced life” was the best thing that could’ve happened to her at that time, hence her relationship with joe made her “feel new again” after so many that were always in the public eye. a lot of people think the cobblestones line is related to betty and/or the 1, but this song as a whole doesn’t fit with the heartbroken themes of those two. more likely it’s hinting at the fact the taylor and joe spend a lot of time together in europe, where cobblestone sidewalks and roads are commonplace.
the last great american dynasty: as many have realized, this is the story of rebekah harkness, the former owner of taylor’s rhode island house who hosted a ballet studio there. that’s literally it, just the story of a badass who doesn’t give af about the opinions of people around her. also one of my faves.
exile: dual perspective from both sides of a relationship that ended with the woman moving on and the man staying stuck in the past. “staring like he’s just your understudy,” “i gave so many signs,” etc. may be about one of taylor’s past relationships in relation to her and joe now but i doubt it. if i had to guess, probably calvin harris bc there were also engagement rumors and marriage plans swirling around with the two of them.
my tears ricochet: taylor’s perspective about the john mayer situation, ie “didn’t have it in myself to go with grace,” “if i’m dead to you,” “battleships,” etc. taylor notoriously wrote an almost-seven-minute song absolutely tearing him apart back on speak now (not going with grace), and their relationship was crazy violent and accusatory for the year or two following (battleships) and neither of them have talked about it since (dead to me+battleships sinking). i think this is her way of apologizing whether or not she had to (spoiler alert: she didn’t).
mirrorball: taylor’s perspective about the public’s opinion on her and joe “i know they said the end is near” but also telling them that their relationship is still going strong “i’m still on my tallest tiptoes...shining just for you.”
seven: holy fuck this song. it’s obviously from taylor’s perspective about her childhood as it mentions pennsylvania, but i have no clue who it could be about and i think that’s the point. it’s about loving someone in your childhood (no pronouns but implied that it’s a girl due to braids and hiding the closet) and wanting to run away with them but realizing as you get older that it won’t happen and eventually forgetting each other’s faces but still remembering how they made you feel. def one of my faves on the album bc it’s g a y a f.
august: also very young-summer-lovey, perspective of a high school girl who lost her virginity to someone older (same person who cheated on her in the 1) hence “never have i ever before,” “you back at school,” etc. but ended up being abandoned and manipulated into thinking they still cared “cancel plans just in case you’d call.” linked to illicit affairs and betty, more on that later.
this is me trying: taylor’s perspective detailing the struggle of growing up in the public eye as a superstar. “had the shiniest wheels now they’re rusting”=going from the golden girl of country music to a politicized controversy-ridden indie/alternative artist. again linked to miss americana: she wanted to stand up for what she believes in and is defending her missteps by stating that she’s trying her best. another of my faves.
illicit affairs: protagonist again. goes into detail about an apparent affair with her partner, now confirmed to be a “him” in the line about perfume.
invisible string: about taylor and joe, super cute, soulmate au type beat. next.
mad woman: taylor roasting sc**ter br*un within an inch of his life as she should. next.
epiphany: hooo boy this one is DEEP. not taylor’s perspective, but about the general trauma anyone experiences from watching someone die or being with them as they die; “some things you just can’t speak about.” extremely relevant during the pandemic, “hold your hand through plastic now” and the recurring line about watching someone breathe. the epiphany in question is the hope for a miracle cure to save the person as they’re dying. favorite crying song on the album.
betty: here we goooooo. perspective of the protagonist’s partner james and his* apologizing to betty for cheating “it was just a summer thing.” the scene of walking on cobblestones and being picked up in a car is the opposite perspective of the same scene in august, and “her” is the narrator of the 1, august, and illicit affairs. the way my interpretation differs from others is that betty isn’t the protagonist in the storyline. *also the fact that this song could very well be wlw if one assumes that illicit affairs is a standalone story not related to the love triangle.
peace: this one...giving us very much kaylor if you ask me. sunshine babey. i can’t even fully analyze it because my dumb bisexual brain just becomes tv static. however, it implies that kaylor will never be an official thing but they’ll keep coming back to each other as friends, hence “never give you peace.” also completely unrelated but the line “clowns to the West” LMAOAKSDNWN ROAST THEM SIS.
hoax: our girl is back. not taylor, the same narrator from all those other songs. this is her final take on james leaving her for betty until the 1, years later.
okay, if you’re still here, buckle up bc here’s the full story in order. august: our girl and james are in love in the summer. everything is cute and good but looking back she sees the trouble on the horizon. illicit affairs: james gets with betty but is still fuckin around with our girl on the side. the line about lies and lies implies that he said betty was the side girl and she believed and cared about him enough to stay while he’s really falling in love with betty and she ignores all the signs that she’s actually the other woman. between this song and betty, betty finds out about our girl and breaks up with james. betty: james realizes he loves betty instead of our girl and is apologizing (and making excuses) on her porch. betty’s a dumb bitch so she forgives him and they get back together. hoax: our girl is in absolute despair over james, who she trusted and loved with all her heart only for him to run off with betty. the 1: despite being the first song on the album, it’s the conclusion to the love triangle’s story. our girl is years older and more mature, looking back on her summer with james and understanding that he couldn’t control his falling out of love with her but appreciating the time they had together. flashes of the sadness from hoax come back, but she always switches it back to the positive. in conclusion, chronological order of the story is: august, illicit affairs, betty, hoax, the 1. and scene.
here’s my potentially hot take and explanation why i don’t think this album is about karlie: doubting taylor and joe’s relationship in favor of shipping kaylor is biphobic, especially after seven on this album basically confirms taylor has had crushes on girls/is bi. it’s one thing to speculate about the past or hope for them to get together, but ignoring the times taylor has gone on record saying that she loves joe and the songs she’s written about him and the more recent evidence that the two are quarantining together is disrespectful to her current relationship. the notion that she’s secretly dating karlie while letting her fans and the press think she’s with joe is furthering the stereotype that bi people are more likely to cheat or lie in a relationship and therefore biphobic. thank you.

Earth, Wind, and Coffee: Chapter Four Analysis
and now the last chapter of the fic! i really had so much fun writing these analyses so i hope you’ve enjoyed too :))
i’ve got a lot to say about this last chapter too so be prepared for a long one. lets get to it, shall we?
some fun stuff before we start!
before changing the direction of the story, the last chapter of the fic was going to be Chapter 3: The Meeting, A Well Deserved Jab, and a Good Night’s Rest
so, The Meeting was going to happen, korrasami was gonna come back together and instead of the krew outing during this chapter’s A Well Deserved Jab, korrasami was gonna go out on a date. korra still would punch iroh, korra never ‘moved in’ with asami, it was just gonna be a fluffy section. A Good Night’s Rest was actually going to feature hiroshi going to asami’s apartment while korra was over and being like “who the fuck is this” and korra was gonna be upset asami didn’t tell her dad about them (as, in the og timeline, they would be dating at this point) they’d have a convo working this out, a little like how korra said she’d never understand how asami and hiroshi don’t have a great relationship in A Much Needed Conversation. korra would then go to hiroshi’s office and make that whole speech and still ask asami to go the south. this is a v summed up version, one that when i made it, i was happy with. having published what i did, i much enjoy that ending more than this one :)
i wanted a way to show that korra likes asami (obviously, this is a korrasami fic) but of course, asami spent most of this only wishing korra liked her
mako asking out korra was a late edition, one i actually really like. mako’s role in the fic is pretty minor, sorry to those of you who really love him and maybe wanted more from him. however, i am a really big fan of the fact that in lok, even after all the stupid love triangle shit, mako was able to be good friends with korrasami, so i still wanted to capture that. he’s not at all upset when korra turns him down, but rather super happy for the fact that korrasami feel the same way about each other. an even later edition to this point is the bedroom scene when korra asks asami to wait for her, i’ll mention more about this scene later cause i really love it.
and we in gooooo: (i usually try to write these following the sections of the chapter but for this analysis, im gonna go topic by topic within each section)
literary devices (diction, figurative language, etc.):
There have been better days than this one. Days where Korra blows up Asami’s phone with funny Instagram posts she finds while Asami’s at school, days where she invites Mako and Bolin over and the four of them play board games, days where Korra asks if they can go out for a walk and she excitedly explores the area around Asami’s apartment. There have been worse days than this one. Days where Korra won’t get out of bed, days where Korra won’t speak, days where Korra won’t even look at Asami and she has to see that glossed over gaze gawk out the glass window.
back again, just quoting my favorite sections. and this one, yall, this one. the mirrored writing style, the ending with alliteration, how easily it describes a passage of time i mean come on. when i wrote this i was like “yyyyaaaasssss” and i won’t deny it. the “glossed over gaze gawk out the glass window” is obvious in alliteration, one that just sounds so good, it rolls off the tongue. but, there’s actually also another one, one that’s a bit more hidden “she excitedly explores the area around Asami’s apartment” note how these both end the descriptions of korra’s bad/good days respectively, as a sort of way to frame which parts of the sentence correspond with the good days and bad days. now, going onto korra’s days, three examples of good days, three examples of bad days (that’s technically six different days right there, and it doesn’t even have to be in succession.) what i also love about this info into korra’s days is how it shows a passage of time without having to be like “it’s been a few weeks” or “after some time/a while” it doesn’t stick out, at least not to me, it’s not a jarring way to say, “hey, in the story now, time has passed since last chapter!” idk, i just am really proud of this paragraph and i wanted to point it out in its own section :)
Asami will never, ever say she’s happy that the Red Lotus attack happened, but, it’s what brought Korra to her. It’s what brought more friends to her, it’s what brought her to see her father isn’t as great and almighty as she’d grown up to believe. How could she ever thank something so horrible for bringing about all these life changing things in her life?
this sort of, existential section, was something i came up with on the toilet. (tmi? im not gonna apologize tho, this is a behind the scenes explanation of my writing and some of my best writing happens on the toilet ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) any who, i didn’t want to leave any loose ends and, up until this chapter, i don’t really think i showed how asami felt about the attack and the situation and what’s happened after. also, asami being the perfectionist and analyst she is, i know she’d reflect on everything that’s happened to her in the span of about six months (give or take) and even more so, reflect on what’s happened with korra in the time they’ve known each other. it was a bit painful to write this section, it’s that sort of mentality that’s like “some horrible, horrible shit happened, but really, really good things came out of it. so, should i still hate all that horrible stuff or should i just appreciate the good things that came out of it?” (i’ve been debating this for years now with something personal and to this day, i’m not sure. i’m not sure if i’m more thankful for it all happening because of the few good moments it brought or if i wish none of it happened for the chance at some alternate reality of good things happening. anyways, i digress)
Kuvira stays silent for a moment, “When Hiroshi reaches out to you, tell him everything you said to me. Tell him everything you said when we were in your apartment after the presentation. He needs to know how you feel, he needs to know how he’s made you feel for years. Hiroshi can’t change if he doesn’t know what’s wrong and you want him to change, don’t you?”
Asami grips the steering wheel, staring at the red light in front of her. Her foot slowly pulses on and off the break, inching forward, waiting for the signal.
“I do.”
She feels the pit of her stomach churn, wondering if she could ever say all of it to her father. Kuvira isn’t wrong, she wants her father to change, but not in every way. Not in the business sense, not in the ambition sense, but rather, she wants a father, she wants to feel like the man she calls Dad really deserves the title. It pains her to say he hasn’t. The light turns green and Asami’s foot hovers over the gas pedal.
“So then you’ll tell him?”
For just a moment, her Satomobile doesn’t move but with a sharp, deep breath, Asami steps on the pedal. “I will.”
back again with our car metaphor/symbol thing! i really do love this idea of using the Satomobile as a way to show the relationship between hiroshi and asami, and how asami handles that relationship. this is from A Much Needed Conversation, some time after asami’s returned to future industries, calling kuvira in reluctant hope of knowing what her father is doing. they talk about asami telling hiroshi all this important stuff, stuff that asami’s been hesitant to bring up at all. (only after a breaking point did she finally let it out) this section has a mix of it all, diction, metaphor, along with some suspense by using line breaks. 
Her foot slowly pulses on and off the break, inching forward, waiting for the signal. / “I do.” - here’s a good example of suspense. (it continues through the rest of the excerpt) so, here was have asami, absolutely scared shitless, as she always is with her father and this subject of her life in relation to him. except, now with their time apart and what happened with the meeting, asami’s kind of got this “fuck it, whatever” mentality that goes a few different ways. “fuck it, whatever” my dad totally turned on me and was an asshole, i don’t care. “fuck it, whatever” we cut off ties, i can do whatever i want. “fuck it, whatever” i might very well do whatever it takes to get my dad back because i miss him but im also super scared as per usual. “fuck it, whatever” im not the one who needs to do anything to get him back so i won’t even think about it. there’s just a lot for asami to unpack here and in the setting of her father’s legacy, it’s even more for her. 
She feels the pit of her stomach churn...The light turns green and Asami’s foot hovers over the gas pedal. - more suspense. the light is green, green means go, but asami is waiting, thinking, hesitating. this also relates to the line earlier “waiting for the signal” well, this is the signal, the green light means go. but also, kuvira telling asami to tell hiroshi everything is also the signal to go, it’s like the push for asami to do it. she sees the signal, it’s go time, and yet “Asami’s foot hovers over the gas pedal” asami is still nervous, still scared to have this conversation with her father because she just doesn’t know what’s going to happen.
“So then you’ll tell him?” / For just a moment, her Satomobile doesn’t move but with a sharp, deep breath, Asami steps on the pedal. “I will.” - this mirrors just a few lines earlier. when kuvira asks asami to tell hiroshi everything while she’s waiting for the green light, her dialogue has a line break. for dramatic effect purposes, but also to show a sense of firmness. it’s by itself, it doesn’t need to be supported; asami really, truly means this. however here, her dialogue tag is connected to the narration its related to. even while asami confirms she’ll do this, that she’ll talk to her father, it’s hesitant, it takes a moment for her to say yes. 
what i really love is how much can be covered in such few lines. i’m not sure you all saw this when reading, ive always been very into reading/writing analysis, so i’m always looking at everything with a fine tooth comb; in my own writing, it’s no different. if you didn’t see this before, i hope learning it now gives you a different perspective if you ever choose to read my fic again :)
content (typing up loose ends, leaving breadcrumbs, additional info):
lets talk about korra
a lot happens for our girl in this last chapter. i’ll try to be concise, i tend to kind of ramble. i think what’s kind of cool, and i didn’t realize this beforehand, is that theres a speech from korra in each section. in A Well Deserved Jab, we see korra’s first time speaking at the support group meeting and what i really like about this is there’s no real big event that’s happened for her to finally be able to go up there. i feel like there’s always this one, life altering moment in stories when people need to deal with trauma or just work up the courage to do something, but in our case, it’s not like that. it’s the time and the care that’s slowly been working and helping korra for her to feel ready. it’s been a culminating process for her to get to go up there and for whatever reason, korra felt ready. let’s go a little into this speech
we finally learn more about the attack. we learn why korra’s always been picking at her wrists, the memory of the zip ties are still strong and she scratches at hopes of making the feeling go away. we also hear more about korra losing control that night, which in turn made her want to control everything with her life after the event. (lil fun-ish note while we talk about some deep stuff right now, last chapter’s first paragraph, about korra enjoying pour over coffees, was a purposeful choice. when doing pour overs, you have direct and absolute control over the coffee and how you make it, which gives korra a greater sense of comfort, because she knows she’s in charge when doing this.) my favorite part about this whole speech is right before the tail end of it, where korra says “sometimes surprises are better than plans” it was never in her plan to meet someone and find comfort and support and love and grow with it. (my headcanon is that korra just wanted to mull this over alone, sort of like in book four after the canon red lotus attack.) instead, korra met asami and the two clicked and korra could see a light at the end of her tunnel she thought would be pitch black forever. i really enjoyed getting to write this for korra.
korra’s second speech takes place in A Much Needed Conversation. another scene from the fic i wrote beforehand, i think somewhere between finishing chapter two and mulling over the decision to make the fic longer. this was sort of my cathartic, “lets yell at hiroshi for being sucky” moment. a lot of points are brought up here, all of which i believe are valid. it poses the simple, yet ever complicated question of “why?” i’ll get into hiroshi’s response in a later section, but what i’ll highlight about this speech is korra’s statement, “Now, I know that I don’t need to be saying any of this, because Asami can more than hold her own in any conversation, but I am doing this because you are hurting the woman I love, and I will not just let that happen.” its a declaration of love, love that i know is deeper than just romance but also deeper than just friendship. it’s admiration for asami being so strong, admiration for asami being so powerful and smart, korra says more about it in the speech. i tried it make so that korra wasn’t trying to control this situation with asami’s father, but rather, this was korra’s attempt at getting them to try and work something out. korra wants what’s best for asami, she wants her to get everything she wants. korra knows asami wants a better father and the most korra feels she can do is slap hiroshi (with her words) across the face and get him to realize that’s what asami wants.
korra’s third and final speech opens A Good Night’s Rest. we get just a little more about that night, i actually wrote this speech out loud. i just sort of put myself in korra’s place and started talking. my intent with this opening was to give more insight into how korra feels about asami. this is also a call back to the beginning of the chapter, about waking up asami if korra ever needs her. i took this action as a solidifying definition for asami to know “yeah, korra really does love me.” sure, in the last section, korra sort of did say it, but actions still speak louder than words. a lot of this final chapter was just showing how much korra has grown, i think i achieved that.
before we move on, i just wanted to say a lil bit about the bedroom scene where korra asks asami to wait for her. it’s a small confession that i think just says so much. another time here to show that romantic korrasami will happen, but it’s also just insight into korra and her thoughts about romancing asami. she wants it too, so badly that she almost gets into it before she’s ready. did i psych you guys out like asami, who thought she was finally going to kiss korra? it’s all in the lines, “I’m almost there...I know I am, Asami. I’ll be there soon, I need to be better. I need to be better for you.” and now, after thinking about it, i almost wasn’t gonna word it like this. what korra’s saying here is that her progression is only being done so that she can be good for asami, which, i didn’t want to convey. however, sometimes, that’s just how people think; they think, “if i have to do something, i gotta do it for someone else.” and so that’s what i’ve done with korra here, it’s just this mentality that she’s growing out of. it’s okay to have this thought process, good even, but not for every single thing you do. and i wanted korra to know that, which is why i love asami’s response, “I think you’re already great.” it’s just to remind korra, yes you can get better, you will get better. but not for asami, but for yourself, because asami already loves you the way you are.
kuvopal
breadcrumbs; that’s all i’ve really done so far with kuvopal is put lil breadcrumbs everywhere for the people who like the idea of the relationship to grasp at. is that mean of me? maybe, but i really love kuvira and opal as a couple so i wanted to keep hinting and hinting and hopefully getting you readers interested too. kuvopal has been sprinkled in since chapter two and i wanted to leave the readers with just a little ounce of hope
asami’s official introduction with opal heavily involves bolin, enough to the point where the two kiss each other on the cheek. now, of course, after reading the chapter, you know bolin and opal aren’t dating, but i wanted to stress you out a lil bit xD asami is weary of mentioning kuvira, so there’s not much we really get to see about how opal feels. opal may have wanted to talk when asami mentioned kuvira just before korra asked about spring break, but she didn’t. why didn’t she say anything? do you think she’s wanted to talk about kuvira? what about her major, child services and the foster care system, do you think kuvira influenced that, being she essentially was fostered by the beifongs? do you think we’ll ever find answers? *wink*
iroh
so obviously, we don’t like iroh. if there’s anyone in this story who doesn’t get a happy ending or a second chance, it’s him because he’s the worst. i realized we hadn’t seen too much of iroh in the previous chapters and this being the last one, i needed to really show just how not cool iroh is. the soccer game is very clearly an indication of just how conceded and rude he is. after the game, his conversation with asami is bad. he’s being invasive and inconsiderate of asami and he doesn’t care. same with at the restaurant. so, of course i wanted iroh to get his comeuppance and we have that by korra punching him.
going off of this, i didn’t want it to feel like iroh got a one and done kind of deal. he was incredibly awful to asami and his “friends” and i didn’t want this behavior to be taken lightly. so, i chose to make iroh just basically lose everything :) he loses his friends, possibly his job, i just KNOW izumi is disappointed as fuck that he’s acted like this and uncle iroh is rolling over in his grave that someone of his own blood would be like this. i wanted to address iroh in his own category because i just wanted you all to know that he is the only character not getting off easy. i really hope that how iroh’s situation turned out is good, as in, he got what he deserves.
hiroshi
hiroshi was an interesting character to go about in the final chapter. obviously, throughout the fic so far, hiroshi hasn’t been a standout father or boss. if i haven’t said it before, i’ll say it now: i always wanted hiroshi to have a second chance, ie, i wanted hiroshi to try to be better. for one, asami deserves it. she deserves a good parent who’s there for her and isn’t just obsessed with his job and the glory and empire he’s built up for himself. another reason, i believe everyone (within reason, *cough cough* not iroh *cough*) deserves a second chance. at the very least one more try, to be better, and if they’re actively trying, they’re doing better.
so hiroshi gets a bit of a wake up call from not only korra, after she so passionately scolded him in the name of her love for asami, but hiroshi also got one from asami directly. take your pick as to which conversation sparked hiroshi to call her to say goodnight. it’s an effort, and asami even says it herself, that after a while, the juice of it ran out. but kuvira said it too, it’s a start. what im trying to highlight is that no one is perfect and their ways of trying to change themself isn’t going to be perfect either.
and the kicker is hiroshi going to the south, without any other reason than to see asami. hiroshi only ever travels for future industries related business, but here he goes, without kuvira, to the south to see asami. i want to keep highlighting, asami says this is just the start. she hasn’t yet fully forgiven him, but she’s giving him the chance to be forgiven. that’s what i want to make most apparent on the topic of hiroshi and asami’s relationship: hiroshi is not getting off easy. but he’s trying, and in the words of the good place, that is what matters isn’t if people are good or bad, what matters is if they’re trying to be better today than they were yesterday. hiroshi, in this action, coming to the south, is trying to be a better father that day than all the days before. offering up the job offer from tonraq is hiroshi trying to be a better boss that day than the day before. staying in the south to spend real, quality time with his daughter is hiroshi trying to be better that day than every day before that.

honorable mentions:
in the og timeline, back when korrasami was going to be a confirmed couple in the fic, after returning from the south, asami was going to go to the cafe at one in the morning while korra was working and korra was going to make her an avatar. i liked the full circle aspect at the time but really, i much prefer what i’ve posted over that og timeline.
anything i would’ve wanted to change?
i think, overall, i maybe would’ve wanted to divide chapters up differently. as i continued writing, the three sections definitely could’ve supported themselves as singular chapters. especially this final chapter, which was almost 20k words. but, in the end, i am so proud of this fic and of myself for following through and finishing it.
i lost a bit of steam towards the end of this analysis, i’ve actually had this in my drafts for almost two months. but, i think what i wanted to say, i did, and as always, if you have any comments or questions, or just wanna talk to me, do it ! i love any and all commentary on my writing :))
