Check-In for November 3rd, 2023

We are officially at 20K WORDS FOR THE PRESENT IS A GIFT BABEYYYYYY

Which means I am officially 41% of the way to completing NaNoWriMo! On day THREE of NaNoWriMo!!! THIS IS WHAT POWER FEELS LIKE!!

I started making some button pin designs and began inserting them into actual button pins today! This was absolutely awesome and pure dopamine. I'm still learning how to make the pins look decent and not completely destroy every sixth pin, but I'm having the time of my life making them. Some designs I've made are as follow:

I'm particularly proud of the Pillsbury sugar cookies that I look forward to eating every holiday season in real life. Those are the ultimate button pin designs, and I was a little upset to learn I wasn't the first to come up with the idea of making them into pins, haha.

I was recently able to make some more PMD2: Text Post Boogaloo posts as well! They were very fun to create, but I'm hoping to get into more typical text posts again, or make some comics based on results from incorrect quote generators.

Homework was devilishly difficult as always, but I've finished my work for the week, so I can get a nice break over the weekend.

Still no progress on making a proof of concept for my visual novel, but I'm still thinking about it and making written progress. I'm considering alternately creating it as a walking sim made in RPG Maker MV, but I'm not making any promises on that yet!

Halloween was fun, and I got to enjoy seeing many little kids dressed in Mario costumes at my church. I was dressed in the same Luigi costume I've gone as for the past few years, and it was a blast to see so many kids think that this old costume was absolutely amazing in light of the Mario movie. Best treat ever. The tricky part was hiding all of my hair--- hair that reaches my lower back when in a ponytail, mind you--- in a Luigi hat without looking like I had a balloon under there. I managed. Barely. But it was hilarious to see people shocked when I took off my hat at the end of the night and my hair fell out. It honestly felt like that one Adventure Time clip.

All in all, it's been a productive few days, and I'm eager to keep up the good work.

fun fact in case i havent told this story here: riolu was one of my first shinies in a main series game! i dont think it was THE first, but how i got it was pretty fun:

my sister and i have a long-standing tradition of getting both versions of a game. i would get one, she would get the other. even through our tumultuous relationship as siblings, it was always a chance to finish the pokedex together.

when sword and shield came out, my sister, being older and with a job, bought Shield immediately. i had to wait until christmas to get my own copy of Sword. when i finally had it, my sister had beaten the game, and when i lamented to her that Lucario was a level 60 encounter (riolu and by extension lucario being one of my favorite pokemon, especially when i was younger), she bred a Riolu egg and traded it to me. nothing special, and just one, just so i could have one on my team while i played.

as you may be able to guess, a full-odds shiny hatched out of the egg. needless to say she was SO fucking mad

so thats why i love shiny riolu so much!

Rachel and Sawyer were just retainers, just pseudo siblings, just workers. They weren’t his friends, and it was cruel of them to offer it to him at every opportunity. They couldn’t understand his aversion to it; they couldn’t imagine how much it hurt to deny them such a simple thing.

A king did not have friends, nor did he care for anyone besides blood relatives. Lear’s father only cared for the sake of his people as a collective, and for his son’s safety as an individual. Lear was the only one who had to bear the weight of the king’s protective gaze.

(What a privilege.)

Lear didn’t care about Rachel and Sawyer. This did not mean he didn’t love them like family; it just meant he wasn’t allowed to.
