Summary: In which, you and Draco visit your local fall festival.
The fall breeze rode by whipping your hair behind you and chilling your core.
It was refreshing and brought on an air of excitement.
From behind you, however, came a sigh. You roll your eyes playfully before turning around laughing. Draco stood behind you, bundled in an expensive coat and scarves. The two of you stood at the top of a hill, looking towards a large area surrounded by trees, plants, and small clusters of buildings and open structure. A fall festival. One of your favorite things about the season.
“Do we really have to do this?” Draco whined, wrapping his scarf around tighter as the wind blew.
“Yes, Draco.” you urge, “I did not walk all this way to have you say no.”
Draco huffed, intertwining his hand in yours, “What do Muggles do here anyway? It’s just a field of weird looking things.”
You chuckled as you walked closer to the ticket booth, “Well that…” you point to the corn maze, “is a corn maze. We go in and try to find our way out. At night, they have people dressed up as scary Muggle monsters jump out at you to scare you.”
You watch as Draco’s eyes widen, “That’s ridiculous.”
“Not really.” you say, waiting in line to buy the tickets, “There’s a pumpkin patch here so we can carve jack-o-lanterns, festival games like hay rides, knocking down plastic bottles with a baseball, ring toss, eating donuts off a string.”
You move up in line, handing over ten dollars to get in. The first stop up was the high striker. “What’s this do?” Draco asked, grabbing the large mallet that came with the game. You took it from his hands. “You hit that padding as hard as you can. The pressure from your hit sends the little arrow all the way up and if it reaches the top, it dings.”
You raise the mallet over your head, swinging it down on the padding of the high striker. The arrow shoots up, dinging when it reaches the top before falling back down. Draco smiles, “Let me try.” Draco swung the mallet behind him, dropping the pressure on the padding, The arrow flew up quickly and he smiled. “See. Told you it would be fun.” you laugh.
Next up was the hayride. After purchasing some candy apples, the two of you hopped on the wagon full of hay. The wind blew roughly as you rode and Draco pulled you in tight. You smiled as you watched Draco’s eyes light up as you passed the large pumpkin patch and the scarecrows. “Why do Muggles use scarecrows? Is it really to scare away the crows?” Draco asked, quietly.
“Sort of. It keeps away all birds but now they’re just decorations.” you say, pointing to the mini one hanging in the corner of the wagon. After the hayride, you bought more good in the form of apple cider; a drink Draco surprisingly had never had before.
“It’s good. I promise.” you say, taking a sip of yours. “It’s kind of like pumpkin juice.”
“Are you sure?” Draco scrunches his nose, “It sort of looks like muddy water.”
“Oh take a drink of it.” you laugh, bringing the rim of the cup to his lips. The liquid eventually makes its way down his throat and a warm smile appears on his face. “I do like it, though I hate to admit it.”
“I told you.” you say. As you walk the leaves crunch from underneath your feet. People walk around everywhere, scarves and hats adorned on their figures. For your final stop, you and Draco make your way to the corn maze. Dusk had fallen, mulled groans erupted from the fields of corn. Draco looked at you nervously.
“Are you sure you want to go in there, Y/N/N? I mean, it looks too scary for you.”
You gaze at him crossly, “Draco Malfoy, put on your big boy pants and step into that corn maze with me. You live in a world of werewolves, centaurs, trolls and vampires and you’re meaning to tell me that a man holding a fake chainsaw is going to scare you?”
Draco sighed as you dragged him into the maze. That night was one to remember as you laughed each time a zombie or ghoul popped out at you. The look of terror in Draco’s eyes was one you would never forget.
“You’re lucky I love you so much.” Draco scoffed, “Or else I would have never stepped foot in that maze.”
“Oh shut up.” you laughed, whisking Draco away over the hills once more.
