sorry, long post, got totk thoughts ...again

first botw vs totk shrines aesthetic and meaning; then shiekah symbolism thats overtaken by sonau

botw vs totk shrines (not in quality of puzzle since i talked about that a little before, but as in aesthetic, meaning etc)

something that worked well with shiekah shrines in botw was that these things were built SPECIFICALLY to make a future link stronger, theres that denialability to it that kinda make sense when you think about it, they are small challenges for the future hero to test and make them stronger, they are spread around the world bc you wouldnt want to hide some major source of power in one place, a monk literally sacrifices their life to enable you to gain more power their dead body waiting for you at the end (neat!!), they are each a little different in pose and clothing and im pretty sure its implied each monk made the puzzle for their shrine themselves; and the ones that rely on something happening in the world first can also be explained by their ability to see the future, the shrines and towers all rise up from the ground, which gives them that believable sense of they have been down there all this time and been activated via the net connecting them all to signal it is time- their design is also just .. nice? its got a nice contrast of the dark and the ligher brown with eye catching light from orange to blue to pink telling you in what states of operation it is (idle, working/done, corrupted) and their shape design is a very striking mix of bigger emptier spots of dark with the lighter browns wiggly lines coming in in nicely paced patches and the strong lights poking through giving you a nice soemthign for your eyes to look at (their tech is also a mix of magic stuff AND mechanism, they still look and work kinda magical but still have cogs and springs and looks like they are actual maschines put together)

totk shrines have no real denialability to why they are the way they are, its pretty clear that they are there for game reasons (and to copy botw i guess?) with no proper thought given to it (or failed to convey); they are already there when zelda does her time travel bs, and i heard (havent seen it myself? or dont remember) that the sonau shrines were built to .. keep monsters at bay? ok, im not even gonna question that part ( ... but i am .. i guess lightmagic wahtever dont think about it) so .... why do they contain a puzzle at all? its not to prevent monsters from entering since you need raurus hand to activate it (in botw you need the shiekah stone to do so which isnt really found besides yours either but ... their purpose is to test and empower you anyway .. and pehaps in a wider range to strengthen the bond with other folks when you have to work with them to get to it) then they werent present in botw so they must have ... somehow appeared out of nowhere? their connection to the lightroots might have been an attempt to try and make them feel more connected but that didnt work either imo, the shrines on the surface mirror lightroots in the underground, implying they are connected somehow, i at first thought like the lightroot is their root and the shrine is the flowerbud, but its very clearly just some ...magic rock crystal with stuff built around it including a teleportation thing thats pretty much copied from the shiekah ones (??) and you somehow ... enter magic dimension (which is .. fine, but i liked how in botws it was an elevator going down, making it feel like you are put into a physical room underground) but then there .... are also shrines in the sky ... that have no lighroot to connect to .. (i guess .. magic light wahtever dont htinkaboutit) so that part kinda falls flat- and the bring-crystal-to-shrine-spot (uhg) also debunk that thought since its a (tasty looking) green crystal that just kinda warps into a big grey rock ... for some reason, at their end is always the same colorless statue of da kind and his fridge wife (not her build) they are also missing that denialability that they were built for link specifically, sonau cant see into the future so (unless they yoinked that from the shiekah too??).. how does .. anything of that work then? especially with the crystal ones given that they are always a blessing shrine sicne bringing the crystal to its spot is counted as the puzzle but they couldnt have known that thats where it would end up at (and then ...how and why would you put a shrine thing into a crystal thing and disconnect it and throw it whereever when it manifests somehow again thousands years later- i need to stop thinking about it)- then their aesthetic is white green and gold(ish) which is a nice color combination in itself tho its lacking that neat status singaling and the eye catching contrast with their glow, the green glowy bits dont stand out as much, their shape design i dislike alot since it ... looks kinda unfinished and in a strange disconnect to their tech; buildings and statues are very blocky solid colors with the occasional rune or dragon carved into, which is also very blocky and one colored, their shapes are pretty uniform in a blocky way, theres not alot of shape contrast anywhere besides basic smaller block and bigger block, the most interesting looking ones are the ... outer walls of the shrines with their scaled look and the ground with the circle patterns; their tech and clothing is in a strange disconnect, its got a gree-tealish scale like texture in anything solid, be it tech or ornaments, it also features alot more gold and also brown stones that look rather untouched- now, for clothing, that is fine, the shiekah didnt dress like their tech either (.... mostly, ancient armor does exist) BUT the constructs and tech also have that more natural look to them

the fact that the same blocky statue waits for you at the end alsso removes not just coolness but also personality, instead of individual monks that gave their life for you and you setting them free once you take their spirit orb its the same representation of the holy king and queen giving you some light juice to cure you more of miasma .. which doesnt actually matter sicne you get your normal arm back no matter how many light juices you got at the end anyway (their "tech" also just looks less like actual maschinery and much more like .. magic tm, the constructs have nothing maschinery like about them and are just floating rings animated by green magic wiggle lines and function almost the same as literal bokblins with the added thing of being able to fuse/use tech.. the empty spot of a threat like the guardians is very prominent once you realize that the constructs are largely just like a reskinned bokblin, and the miasma hands, while neat, are more like a surprise jumpscare and less like a looming threat and are also not taken to their full potential)

theres also a disconnect between the sonau as we are introduced to them in totk and the actual sonau ruins from botw, which share a common dragon motive but have a much more .. MORE aesthetic, theres even color present you dont see anywhere in totk sonau stuff, like the red paint- you are given the explanation that those are ruins built by hylians as a monument to the sonau but i think it falls very flat sicne its clear it wasnt designed to be meant like that in botw and also looks much more withered than the totk sonau ruins which rarely look withered at all despite being even older than the botw ruins; im very sure its jsut an excuse bc their design for totk sonaus got changed ... for some reason, just like their "barbaric" origins in the phirone/faron region

shiekah symbolism and more kinda overtaken by sonau

so, soemthing i really dont like about the sonau as well is that theres quite a bit that they take from shiekah and kinda... present it as being the origin of it, actually;

we all know the very dominant symbol of the eye/third eye with three eyelashes and a tear drop for the shiekah which is established in the very first chronological game (skyward sword) but also featured in alot of other zeldas, it symbolizing their connection to hylia and their foresight (perhaps even more? i dont know everything); now we got the sonau who ... have a LITERAL third eye (and it doesnt even look special ..) that has three lashes and they paint tear drops under their eyes... (which has only the connection to .. the tears zelda sheds when shes a dragon, no other character does so at any other point, lol?) it makes it seem like we are to assume that the shiekah got their symbols from the sonau, actually, just like their tech wasnt their invention either but the sonaus, actually, who are new to the franchise and have no other connection to anything of past games, unlike the shiekah who have been there from the start really

then theres the tech, the ancient shiekah had very advanced, mystical tech in botws ancient history and now the even MORE ancient sonau had even MORE advanced tech way before them in totks lore which goes beyond even botws ancient history

im not saying symbols gotta be exclusive to one group of people but .. it holds alot of significance carried from the older games too, it feels strange for them to highjack the shiekah symbols and achievements WITHIN the two games that are supposedly directly connected in timeline and world (while also pairing them with those supposedly aniecnt hylian feather crowns and belly out look ... which, im no expert but i raise my eyebrow at that) together with the fact that nearly any and all traces of shiekah tech, except for the little needed parts that are never called that though and are just footnotes .. if anything, are precisely erased feels .... off

another long ramble about my thougths about totk, some people graciously call them analysis but i wouldnt say its that, its jsut a largely incoherent waterfall of words that would have spun around in my head for weeks if i didnt write them out and i keep coming up with more thoughts bc im thinking about the rewrite and well ...

knife is only there because my friend watched ii s2 and he LOVES knife and i was like. word. hes awesome so i drew knife for him

HOOO BOY OKAY nickel and balloon. it was a bumpy ride fellas. going immediately from s2 where nickel was kinda a POS to s3 where they suddenly became acquaintances was a little weird to me. (especially in that one episode where silver & candle interrogate nickel about baseball. no suitcase mention?? huh???) but it was cool to see their journey! the buddy-buddy thing seemed weird throughout earlier episodes because in s2 balloon and nickel kinda hated each other's guts so i'm glad that was covered in a later episode and that their friendship was actually solidified. BUT that doesn't leave nickel off the hook if he dont march his ass up to suitcase and say sorry the minute they go back to season 2 i'm gonna have a WORD with that boy

BOT!!! OH BABY BOT they are SO adorable and i loved the reveal that they were a robot! i was so mystified on how bow was magically alive at the beginning and seeing that it was just a product of tt and fan's grief was very heartbreaking... but seeing bot evolve into their own person was genuinely so so so beautiful and the representation for queer folks is done very gracefully and it's very wholesome. seriously im not even trans and i was tearing up like a little bitch y'all. fan and test tube are the parents ever it's so cute and they are the cutest fam ever

silver spoon and candle.... hrrrmmm you are certainly funny little guys.... i would like to put you in a jar and study you.... their sudden intense craving for winning was a little jarring but their dynamic is funny. i didn't like silver much at first but he def grew on me especially in the finals, and candle's friendship with yinyang was really cute too (still bawling he got out i really grew to love him.) AND dont think i didnt see ur blushing in ep 17 silver. im onto you

i already covered bot but i just needed to say their friendship with painty is the BEST THING and for some reason painty just stating they were nonbinary made me unnecessarily happy like YES KING (NONGENDERED) GO LIVE UR TRUTH WE LOVE YOU

cabby... oh you are an interesting little gal. i saw her design before ever watching iii and i was like wow! what a critter! but i'll be so honest at first i didn't like her because her information obsessed demeanor seemed very cold and calculating to me (and i'm so biased for fan and tt so when she got them out i was like. Girl.) but now that i understand her whole character arc, how she learned that its not always about the "facts" and how to lean on people, it was really heartwarming and shes rly grown on me. im a cabby appreciator

blueberry's whole fiasco was interesting. errrrrm u tried buddy that's all i gotta say. respect the hustle man

albedo and his three brothers. some headcanons and design elements under the cut :)

albedo, compared to the others, has the yellowest blonde hair - with droopy blue eyes, freckles, and his signature golden star birthmark on his neck. i didnt change his design much because i think his current design is already very nice !!

his personality is already layed out in the game so i didnt change much! hes reserved, but not the socially anxious type. he just prefers not to deal with social interaction because he thinks its easier that way. he doesn't hold himself back, and just says whats on his mind (and/or asks for assistance when needed.) he has a very professional attitude on the outside, but a soft and comforting nature to his close friends and family.

this is a contrast from dorian, or "rubedo", who has more platinum blonde hair, and purple-red eyes. he also has moles, instead of freckles. his marking is more of a purple-red color, and has more points to it. (he can also hide and change it!) his hair is also unbraided, but in a ponytail. he has somewhat of a permanent scowl on his face, and his eyes are downturned while albedo's are more droopy. i think his real name is rubedo, to match with albedo (both are stages in alchemy) but after rhinedottir abandons him, he changes it to "dorian" to match his brother, durin. (his name is dorian in the games files, so i made a story to go with it. but i also believe he's inspired by the story "the picture of dorian gray")

his personality is more brash & brazen compared to albedo, as he has some un-resolved baggage surrounding rhinedottir abandoning him in durin's stomach (aka: the dragon in dragonspine). he resents albedo for having the life he couldn't have despite being created by rhinedottir first. he was merely the testing stage of albedo's existence. he doesn't have a vision, and he cant control the elements, but he miraculously has powers of his own. he uses durin's blood (or crimson agate) which manifests much like albedo's geo element. his power is strongest when in dragonspine near durin's heart, so if he went to mondstadt city, it would be much weaker.

whopperflower, or just "whoppy", is dorian's creation that he made from studying albedos books and notes (that he stole, by the way.) so obviously, i gave him cryo whopperflower traits. his design is more similar to albedo because dorian projected his issues onto him a bit ... whoppy has white markings on his neck and forehead that match other flowers, and his leaf colors extend onto his hair :) he's fully capable of mimicking something else, but his true form is a whopperflower - and i wanted to make all of them have distinctive designs, so i gave him a little sprout on his head :)

whoppy's personality is quiet and obedient. since he was created by dorian, he listens to pretty much everything he says and has a hard time gaining his own free will. dorian doesn't control him after the fight in shadows admist snowstorms, so he still has to learn how to think for himself... he also wields the element of cryo without a vision, because he's a whopperflower :-)

the last one is what i like to call "glitchbedo" and he's based off of this glitch. i think it would be interesting if he was an unknown identity from the abyss, who roams around dragonspine, before he saw albedo and tried to steal his appearance. albedo finds him roaming around mindlessly one day and pretty much takes him in. when trying to make him talk however, loud static noises come out instead. (i got this idea from this comic!)

he's just ... a black void?? that's it. his head is tilted permanently for some reason. he can't write or speak but he can understand tevyats language. he's a very mysterious guy... im still trying to figure out how i want to characterize him -_- something like paper jam dipper from gravity falls, maybe ??

This is going to out me as the anon but I got too many ideas and wanted to show really bad how the au designs are in my brain because a lot of @scrap-brainzone 's stuff inspired with it and aus so this is a babble about it and some extra info on my aus!

(also at the end I made a doodle of gaige x ty x moze specifically in thanks and also to show appreciation as a gift)

ALSO SUPER SORRY THIS IS GOING TO BE A GIANT POST.

Going simple first, I wanted to show the differences, although I haven't touched Angelic Guardian in awhile and Hyperion brand new with posting I wanted to show anyways- I'll add tidbit about each under this, so sorry for anyone trying to decipher my chicken scratch

Underneath Ms Ceos heavy ass eyeliner and makeup is the eridium effects as displayed here, she's went under several different surgeries repeatedly trying to hide any of the effects and uses cameras and altering her look digitally to her advantage. Her big problem is she Can't let people know because she fears if people knew, they're going to try and kidnap her again. (Mildly irrational considering all her security but it's a fair worry.) She hasn't touched eridium since the end of BL2, so she's most clean, but with how much she had the damage has been done.

Ah, Fallen Heir au. Angel's given up caring about who sees, only hiding before to stay away from the Crimson Raiders and cultists, but after both sides know? It's so what to her. She's technically the most fit and least afraid to use her abilities because she doesn't care as much about hurting others around her. If I were to describe her attitude/self in one sentence of dialog it'd basically be, "They refuse to see me as anything but a monster, so that's what I'll be."

Alas, my dear Angelic Guardian. As you can see, she's very much not holding up well. Her suit uses eridium to help keep her going but still at what cost? She's technically extremely fit, but the repercussions are severe if she pushes too far. Her level of eridium poisoning is beyond dangerous, having been in stasis for 5 years while still receiving eridium to keep her alive. I'll end it here by saying this has severe consequences that unfortunately, she was doomed to face regardless.

Ai Ange? Well. Not very much of anything but mild traits. I, in turn, made one for Gaige with that au.

Angel isn't very the most comfortable with Gaige using eridium, mainly due to the fact its less "as needed" but she likes to test limits and see what she can really do.

moving on I made some goofies and such from my Fallen au, wanting to show interactions (Mildly for also scrap because I know tyreen and tygaige a favorite)

Tygaige alas, would heavy struggle unless we get villain redemption pt 2 like Angel, but she won't be very pleased about it at first before accepting. I'm a sucker for Gaigel, so it'll lean that way, but to entertain the idea would be interesting. I might do that sometime.

if you're curious though with Angel there, it is a shitpost and I have drawn it with the idea Tyreen was monologing, but Angel just turned off her shield and straight up shot a bitch. (Tyreen easily healed with eridium but it was the audacity that was most surprising) the fallen au is pretty funny because besides that, she's also: Made Troy punch himself, then also has made his arm punch Tyreen. Will hack their shows if she's upset enough and fucks with their things. General fun, yknow. An issue Ange faces in the end is because she's so "eridium enriched" it's like double tasty snack to the twins, so that's always fun. (In fairness to Troy and with another drawing, Angel in this au has also made Gaige punch herself a few times when she got upset. She's very petty and I support it)

AND LASTLY

This is a mild gift to scrap-brainzone! I'm really sorry thr quality and coloring isn't the best on this (or most of the images), I was mildly rushing from time and far too excited to finish this and post it to show.

my friend is discovering fallout 4 for the first time

i love fallout 4. ive played that game to death and beyond. i know most details and all the endings and many of the quests and weapons and - yes im well aware of its problems, but i still enjoy it. i did enjoy it. ive moved on to other, better rpgs *cough cough baldurs gate 3 cough cough* and didnt think much of my beloved 1st person post apocalypse talking simulator. until my friend told me he got it and started playing it. for some reason i had already assumed he already played it but to my surprise, he knew nothing of the franchise. he had dabbled in skyrim for a bit, sure, but apparently he had no knowledge of bethesda's 2nd masterpiece. when i was in a voice call with him next, he of course, shared his screen so i could watch him stumble along the commonwealth, dying to bugs and raiders alike. he had gotten to the raider gang in the corvega assembly plant, the one in power armor and with a rocket launcher. i misremembered what the raider had and told my friend to beware the fat man. he didnt know what that was. he didnt know what the fatman was. thats when i realized something.

i had played fallout 4 for well over 400 hours, pretty low compared to other people but enough to where i can spew out random facts about that damn game. but my friend not knowing what the fatman was- the most iconic weapon in the fallout franchise- made me realize how fresh this is all to him. here is someone who is discovering this world with new eyes, not knowing a single thing abt the commonwealth or the minutemen or the shitty story or the repetive quests. when people wish to relive their favorite games in fresh eyes, they wish for this. here i was, as my friend's guide thru this junkpile of a game, seeing it thru new eyes once again. the thrill of discovery, smth i strive for but shy away from. im scared to try new things. i love my sameness. but that gets boring. it sure as hell gets boring. but not anymore.

i saw this as much when my friend stumbled upon covenant and i told him it was a good quest. i maybe shouldnt have even told him that but i wanted him to see it for himself and made sure he did it before it locked him out. he did the entry quiz, making a joke about how hes not getting let in and showed surprise when he was. now for me, i know u r let in no matter ur answer- a mix of irony w the whole synth test and also bethesda game design- so it was fun to see his shock. he walked around covenant and i suggested to him to get deezers lemonade. he tried to get infinite but sadly, all you get is what deezer has in stock. that started the quest and he was making comments about how sus the town was. yes! hes on the right track. he now had to track down a caravan and got mighty lost. i had to explain to him how quest markers work and surprisingly how to access his quest log. i guess its not all obvious to many. he had to leave shortly after but in dms he was telling me how he wanted to save a certain npc in covenant. my heart sank. bethesda doesnt work like that. if he turns against covenant, that npc that he loves will turn on him and he will be forced to kill her. idk if he has gotten that far in the quest line (i'll see later when he wakes up) but i dont want to imagine the disappointment.

thats what i realized with besthesda games. while they make great atmospheres and music and lore, the actual gameplay and rules are never clear. its not like baldurs gate where larian thought of every possible outcome for every quest. its more bethesda knows rpgs must have differing outcomes but doesnt understand what that means. when they market their games to be freedom of choice and play how you want and "see that mountain, you can climb that", it sets an expectation. an expectation they dont follow thru on. i hope this doesnt dissuade my friend from continuing. i think he will really enjoy some of the quests and especially power armor. he already decided to play for a power armor build. it would be very funny if he sided with the brotherhood of steel for his first run, as i did since i was a dumb kid and didnt understand the blatant military critique that it was. he might, as i did, think, big gun means fun time. thats perfectly fine. the factions in fallout 4 arent as deep philosophically as bethesda treats them to be.

all in all, watching my friend discover this great game for the first time has reminded me of my struggles with the game. he even had his first bugs due to modding. a bug i had similar issues with but we quickly solved. my hope for him is that he finds as much passion in the game as i do. theres a reason its in my top 5 games.

VORTEX TIME BABY

yes i am putting tws for this post because IT IS required in context of everything im about to dump onto you crows

with that out of the way lets get into the oc rant :D

so- just fair warning- i did change some things around in the cannon lore but its not a full COMPLETE change- but you'll see what i mean later on SO- oh and also caines a tiny bit of a dick- BUT unintentionally because i think he just doesnt realize what hes doing is wrong (at least in this aus context but maybe also within the cannon au)

in my au- vortex has been there the longest INSTEAD of kinger- but kinger has been there the second longest. vortex has been in the circus for 20 years (since they were 7 btw and yes this was intention of me) and caine wasnt perpared for humans he tended to leave vortex alone a lot

AND THUS before the group we all know and loved showed up a unlucky group of seven people showed up- think of the group as pomni but worse. the group wouldnt really listen to vortex when it came to the circus so they all tended to avoid vortex/stay in there rooms- which led to all seven abstracting- one by one and vortex having to watch it happen. so of course- caine wasnt around so vortex was stuck waiting for caine to appear while trying to survive abstractions- WHICH THEY DID HURRAY- but they didnt go without getting injuries (im not going into detail on said injuries- at least not by much-) which ties in with his design- SO

"vortex was almost all black..with their teeth being white,the tips of there hair having color- red,blue,green and purple,their eyes having color- one being blue the other being orange. and their tail- which the tip had some red on it followed by other colors. their body was covered in scars. their face,tail,back,arms and legs had scars."

"vortex DID have clothes..but- they were always hard to makes out. the clothes they were (forcably) given were a black tanktop,a flannel which had very few hints of color. the color being a few hints of red here and there. same with the shorts expect they had hints of green instead. they had boots were more of a black-ish grey-ish color"

so- you may or may not have already assumed vortex isnt the biggest fan of caine BUT DONT WORRY I HAVE ONE MORE POINT TO PROVE AS TO WHY THEY DONT- so vortex was kind of a "test subject" for caine right? (not a literal one because- its a digital place-)soo- caine put the virus in vortex to see how much humans can take in the circus (mentally of course) which resulted in vortex having glitching episodes! and eventually- the glitch became sentiant just because of how attached it was to vortexs code at this point- and you'll never believe it buuutt- it wants vortex to eat the members of the circus- huuurraaay- moving on- because were sort of coming back to that.

how i imagine the circus is- its like a show but it has its own spin off game- and as for the show i imagine that like within the cannon universe people can like literally watch what these characters are doing so i like to imagine they all have acts- and the rooms they have are decorated by said act they do. unforunatly- vortex being the test subject he is- doesnt have an act so..what does his room look like?? well-

"vortexs room was pretty empty compared to the others rooms. they had a bed,a desk and a closet. that was about it for things that were in there. they had some random plushies that they had found around the circus while they were alone. they also had a projector with a remote to change colors. he tends to keep it blue and red along with the green dots which represent stars. the project itself was meant to represent the northern lights. there room was also dimly lit just because he tended to find the circus overwhelming. the colors were always to much for her whenever she decided to explore the circus."

one silly fact before i go back to the glitch- since vortex doesnt have an act he likes to watch all of the other members preform and hehehehe. soo- you know pomnis eyes in that one scene where she sees her door? think of that but for vortexs eyes- but not as wide yk? and i like to imagine that their tail is gently wagging and me and my freind made a joke that the camera thats recording the circus members acts just pans to vortex and vortex is just like "..oh heey-" and awkwardly leaves somewhere else lmao

OK BEFORE WE OFFICAL GO BACK TO THE GLITCH- the glitch does have a design

"the glitch is basically an all green looking entity. it has a few other colors here and there but it was mostly green otherwise."

anyway- so. since the glitch is- VERY relentless when it comes to vortex it just keeps telling them to- y'know eat people. but eventually one day vortex had enough of the glitch and- cut their arm off. BUTTT DONT FREAT- they get a prosthetic made by our favorite silly jester (midheard this again on a call with a friend when they actually said their oc lmao)

oh one last thing. you wanna get rid of that glitch? well good luck- you cant do it without whipping vortexs memories- so basically a hard reset.

OH AND- vortex (since they were alone for so long) has this like tent where they put a bunch of stuff they collected while being in the circus- and yes there is a lot of shit in that tent- trust me

Damn it, oh damn the beard and the glasses look good!’ And the cast is now walking towards the stage ‘THATS RIGHT MY MAN GALE WAS A STAR! BLONDIEEEE! He looks the same as he did in the show. The fuck?’ Tell me why this man from a shot that lasted a second clocked that Gale probably has a cigarette pack in his front pocket and I teasingly asked what was he looking at to notice it and he goes ‘i mean….he’s just..well..mind your business’ and immediately afterwards he goes ‘he’s kinda dressed how Brian would be dressed.. but i think Brian would rather die than to have his glasses hanging around his neck..he’d have them perfectly tucked in his jean pocket so everyone knew they were expensive…i miss Brian’ He then sat back and very quietly went ‘im so happy Blondie and B-Gale are sitting together’ The lady who was hosting mentioned how QAF had a big impact on her life and he went ‘tell me about it, girl..i cant even remember what the fuck was i doing before this’ I think it’s worth mentioning that he had to rewind 3 times because he kept staring at Gale and Randy. I just know it’ He now learned how they cast Gale and Dan goes “and there was mr harold” and he goes ‘Look at him getting shy! Wait, he almost didnt go because he was striking? Youre telling me I got him as Brian by pure fucking luck?!’ ‘I fucking love Peter. He’s got like a dry humor type of thing going on, huh? Look at Blondie’s smile. Gale looks so fucking relieved to be done talking. Its okay baby, i know youre shy, this was your Vietnam (Gale goes to pick up the mic again) oh maybe I’m wrong.’ AND THIS IS WHERE GALE SAYS THE ICONIC LINE ABOUT DIVING IN WITH RANDY.. ‘i bet you did. i DO with we got to see that version because it would mean more lawrence screentime and i genuinely do not dislike any saw content. idc how shitty saw x is, it could undo everything and shit all over it but i would NOT care. any content means an avenue to explore saw further

thats one of the main reasons the apprentice reveal was so good, in my opinion. before i get to why its great for lawrence, i want to point out why it works SO well for the other aspects. amanda is johns pseudo-daughter, he LOVED her like a father. we see it at the end of saw iii. no matter what he says, john does not forgive people. he punishes jill for losing their child but at the end of iii, we see him genuinely look at amanda with love and forgiveness. and yet? he never trusted her enough to tell her about lawrence. this random fucking guy who didnt even WIN, is the golden child. trusted with his wife!

as for mark, he is the definition of jigsaws philosophy. he may have jostled his victims around but he had the strongest will to live out of anyone and never relished in hurting them (crying after kidnapping paul + killing seth). another reason i like 3D is that he cant even look at jills corpse. his "game over" wasnt victorious. not like johns always is. YET he is not trusted. hes been there since before amanda, followed his rules, lived his philosophy and he was shafted again. i think the reveal does a lot of good for the apprentice-john dynamic for everyone involved.

secondly, JOHNS TESTS DONT WORK. CANONICALLY. they do not!! amanda says it herself. jigsaw traps make people worse, and not just bc thats a logical response to trauma. working for john amplifies everyones worst traits. amanda became a killer, mark grew to find some sort of enjoyment in killing (at the very least, it made him dependent on it for power and a sense of identity after the loss of his sister)

lawrences test was designed to show him what john said he was missing: empathy. he has none! he lies and doesnt care, he cant understand other peoples points of view, and he prioritizes his own whims and wants over everyone. CONSISTENTLY. so what happens when his tests presents him with the very definition of his heart and moral core, then asks him to kill him? he gets fucking worse!

lawrence is a narcissist. as in the personality disorder. he has low empathy (this is canonically the reason for his test!! not just "he cheated" or "he ignored john", he does these things for that reason) and god. just look at the symptoms, its like they made every scene an example of them on purpose. the idea that his game would be a wake up call and cause him to reflect and adjust his behaviors is just insane to me! within the canon logic of the story, and when taking into account his clear personality disorder... its the most logical choice (source: i have it and also i have eyes. SIDE SIDE note, my real source is that hes a clear parallel to john and john was evaluated for NPD in his psychiatric files in the saw game. so theres that) i think this has a lot to do with people not understanding low empathy. they cant understand why he would betray adam and join jigsaw

trauma wont change that overnight. getting fixed by john for 2 years without seeing the sun certainly wont help either

lawrence as an apprentice is the most logical progression of his character. he does what he wants and what he has to, at the expense of others. hes isolated from his wife and child. he cant understand other peoples prespective. he has an issue with guilt or feeling empathy for people, including those suffering like john. this wont change bc he experienced his first shred of empathy after MURDERING someone he got to know for 6 hours. low empathy =/= no empathy. thats like saying dude bros who do shrooms and experience empathy for the first time in their life are changed people. they arent lol

also the contrast between his game over vs marks 5 minutes earlier is SO important for their characters. theres so much good shit in that movie. take out the corny lines and jill mistreatment, and u have a lot to work with! so yes i do think that itd be more awesome. i love saw 3D and what it did for his character. im not sure how saw iii hostage lawrence wouldve expanded on his character, but id rather go with saw 3D bc im confident they didnt butcher his character. im glad that a beloved protagonist is a complete narc, and hes still beloved! im never giving that up

(Spoilers if you havent watched it)

-Sonic is running late to an eggman fight.

-So I really like Big’s voice. It fits him

-Sonics little intro is great.

-Shadow is mentioned and is like “We... will get to him later”

-So I love all the character designs. I like how Rouge is style. (I think the update is a welcome change)

-I am not crazy  about knuckles voice. I prefered Travis Willinghams in Sonic boom. But I adore Amy’s it fits so well

-The quick banter between each one shows the dynamic he has with the team,

-Sonic is into amy, They are so flirting

-Sonic didnt listen and shattered the prism

-I do wish they didnt do this out of order but... its like a mystery.

-Okay so the fight animation is so fluid, really sells Sonics speed.

-New Yoke city. Chaos Council? Damn its nuts. Reminds me of Sonic Satam

-Sonic sees the Big look alike and got so happy, Baby boy

SO GLAD YOU ASKED (and thank you so much!! i used to be really into chara design & like to think it sticks with me)

Loomy is my Most Emo oc. LOL. I love him (any prns!). Hes also probably my least consistent bc i like to have fun with it!!! Hes test subject 10,001, exactly 7 before 8! Was captured in a group with 4 other octarians, 9,997-10,000 respectively, while they were all on their way to the surface after hearing the Calamari Inkantation. Was the leader of them, being an elite octoling!

Its a whole overly angsty mess. Good for your health to write like an emo 11 year old, I think. Was honestly not having too terrible a time, having fun exploring her identity while going through the easier tests with her friends. Obviously that didnt last very long, and 9,998 failed a test fairly early on, letting them all know what exactly is at stake. In any case, Loomy & 10,000 make it through all the tests, theres a mishap with tartar (Meat Arms Edition!) and Loomy just ever so luckily makes it out alive by itself. Or Not! Thats the happier version, but theres also one where they get blended up as well, and one where theyre sanitized. I said it was inconsistent… AUs, if you will. The sanitized one is like the “true” ending, if u will.

Thru his ventures in the Deep-sea metro, Loomy makes really good friends with Iso Padre! You can Just barely see it, but in the second picture below she has a charm on her hip thats an octotrooper plush like Iso Padre’s. Given to her by him! Kind of a father figure to her.

In the “good” end, Loomy doesnt come into contact with any other agents besides 8! Her relationship w 8 is… Not good. Loomy feels extremely guilty whenever she shes what 8 was able to achieve under her same circumstances, despite the outside help. 8 would like to be on good terms, but Loomy isnt able to move past herself, for now. Take survivors guilt & up it by about 4000. Loomys got issues. But she moves out to the splatlands, taking up a job with a suspicious group, making money thru near-assassinations. Still thinking about this era! Since im more interested in the sanitized story..

Ah! But! Im still considering… So i dont know how i want the end of the sanitized version to be. Because i still wonder about what happened to all the other sanitized octarians in Kamabo Co.. So it has to wait!

he shrugs, very much not taking note of her form. well, as much as one could when forced to witness every event in the spacetime continuum simultaneously. perhaps it would have been better to say he simply didnt react to it- neither positively nor negatively. in another situation, cas might have been impressed- at least somewhat- with the sheer amount of limbs and eyes going on in the design, especially considering it was the closest he had ever got to meeting someone who even partially resembled his true form- but respect was something he valued very very highly and something he felt needed somewhat earned. that was the benefit of deciding whether or not to feel things, after all-- you could just choose not to feel things. it was quite literally in the title, after all.

he was also still there because being able to leave didn't mean he was able to leave permanently. cas had ventured outside (into many different outsides) quite some times now, but the office always drew him back. it was a bit like a spacesuit, or holding your breath- he could do it, but only for so long. he'd never really tested the limits of how long that truly was. now, a little more wary of his hard-earned life than he had been before, cas was even less tempted to test it than he might have once been.

this week i had another breakdown

maybe I am indeed in my breaking point

I had 3 tests (4 even) running simultaneously this week. and it was extremely difficult as they consumed me one by one. The first one, JG, the HR complimented me, she had a delight talking to me, and I was honestly flattered. But unfortunately I took the test in the wrong time and was unable to finish, yet too exhausted to continue. I was truly worn out the next day that I didnt want to go to the office. and I cooled my head before replying to her email. unfortunately I was too late because seems like they changed their mind while waiting for my email reply. I was pretty thrilled of the idea using full on english, its going to be fun. But i was worried because the people seem to be the party ones and I feel like I wouldnt be able to blend into the environment. Not to mention that I was about to go solo with the project, It was challenging, but I was more fearful than excited. But I was extremely attracted to the full english environment. I hope I can find another company like that, very soon

And then AJB, I had fun working on the assesment. but the interview session was hell. all of the participant were rude as fuck and I was pissed. surprisingly I was able to keep my composure, probably I knew I didnt want to be with them. But still I am desperate to find a new workplace. After getting notification that they are rejecting me I was quite furious. Because they threw me off, disrespected me, yet they also were the one who rejected me. I couldn't describe my emotion. rather than relieved I was even more irked. even now i still feel a little bit emotional with how they treated me.

I think OKP really took a toll on me. I think I do have a serious problem with social anxiety. OKP was traumatizing to say the very least. even recalling all those past incidents is able to send shivers down my spine. I absolutely don't want to go through those experience any ever again. But I have a gut that I would. And I am not ready. Not now. Probably not forever... I just want to go to a good hands so that I can mend my wounded heart... I just want to have friends....

and about staying here, irene just shared me a story of someone being sent off because he had a clash with that designer. And I just had too. maybe he's looking down on me. Maybe he thinks I am a useless coworker thats going to leech off his works or something. I don't want to deny that I am useless. I really want to do well, better than him even so that no one could belittle me ever again. But now. I really want to get myself out of here.... I am worn out and... just emotionally drained

I am begging you to talk about the starless sea with spoilers. I’m just so happy that I came across your post, i would love for you to explain the ending to me because I didn’t really get it. You’re right about it being a beautiful book though, it’s so good! The stories inside the stories made me want to sob!

oooooo kay okay thank you SO MUCH for asking i pretty much have an entire post about the ending of the starless sea like. queued up in my head ready to be typed so here we go!! spoilers below the cut and all my friends who havent read this you had better not look -_- also keep in mind the important detail that i do not have a copy of the book for reference rn, lent my paperback copy to one of my besties to read and i have a signed first edition (!!!!!!) but its at my dads house and im at my moms. so this is going to be....

An Explanation of the Ending of the Starless Sea ENTIRELY Based On My Memory!

so im gonna like break this up into groups of people? i think it is easier

Zachary & Dorian (& Eleanor)

- okay before i go on to like The Ending CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE PART WHERE ZACHARY FUCKING DIED

- if you're familiar with greek mythology and/or musical theater (hadestown) it reminds me of orpheus and eurydice, i actually wrote like an entire paragraph on this during history class in my notebook instead of working- something about going through a series of tests to get back to the one you love and then failing and having a moment of realization that you doubted that they were there but they were, but now it's too late. orpheus looking back at eurydice and having a moment of "its you" "its me" before she has to go back to hadestown forever, dorian putting the sword through zachary's chest and having a moment of hes not turning into some horror trickery creature, Oh God It's Actually Him before he dies. that hurt me on Every Level when i was So Happy that they had found each other and then turned the page- it literally said "he's never met someone who's literally taken his breath away before and he thinks he might actually be in love-" and then that was the page and i turned the page expecting Happiness which was not! delivered! yeah from this moment on there were tears in my eyes it was late at night and i wasnt ok with this

- but then the actual ending i thought it was really cool how zachary ended up in like the dollhouse world? at the time i didnt really think much of why or try to reason it out bc i was too fascinated to stop and think and just wanted to keep reading and see what happened to him and if it would come in with a happy ending, i could see that pages were running out for that to happen. but that seemed to be what happened, he ended up in the dollhouse world as it was, and we know the dollhouse world was destroyed in the fire so maybe thats why it ended up being what happened to him when he died? either way i thought that was really interesting. and i didnt quite understand how the Kitchen figured into it, i know the bees that said they were the Kitchen were there in the dollhouse world with him too, maybe they died? or maybe they were always dead??? one thing i would wonder is why the other people that died in the Harbor (the corpses in the tomb wrapped in memories) wouldnt have been there, but my conclusion for that was that maybe the Starless-Sea-afterlife-experience was different for everyone.

- and then Dorian just like. gave zachary Fate's heart to bring him back to life which if we're talking in metaphors may have meant that it was Fate's design to have them have their happy ending together- which makes sense to me, because a) Dorian already had Fate's heart I believe the moon gave it to him at the inn right? so it had to be important for something and b) there was the painting in the Keeper's office where you could allegedly see the heart in zachary's chest or something so just like all the other predictions in that painting, the sword and everything, it was bound to happen and c) Mirabel, or Fate as we could call her, i believe said something to the Keeper and Rhyme when they were waiting outside that warehouse to the effect of, "he didn't seem to think i'd give him a happy ending, honestly i'm a little offended" which seems to suggest to me that she meant for her heart (???? well it was Fate's heart right? and we established that Mirabel was Fate? so does she not have a heart? but im overthinking this the lines of Reality and Metaphor are a lil blurry but its ok we like it like that) but she seems to mean for Dorian to use it to bring him back. because if im NoT mistaken (remember i dont have the book for ref) didnt zachary dance with her between being dead and being alive? or was that just completely wrong the events are a lil jumbled in my mind but its fine. either way ya

- and after that? thats what i love about this ending it feels resolved but also you have no idea what will happen next and it feels like the beginning of an entirely new story. Zachary and Dorian are with Eleanor on her ship and they are sailing the Starless Sea and??? idk do we think they'll just be exploring forever? will they find another Harbor and another door and maybe make it back to the surface world? Madame Rawlins seems to think she'll see both of them, she said something to Kat about how not only would Zachary come back but he'd bring someone home with him, she said she would have a son-in-law eventually, so i'm of the opinion that they eventually made it back to see her??

- i love this woman with my entire heart okay i was so glad when i realized wed see more of her okay i thought we were done with katrina hawkins when we got into the story okay i freaked out when i saw that the next book was her diary okAY

- what happened to her????

- we do know that she followed the trail of zachary's disappearance for a while. we know that she went to see his mother and that she stole his ps4 (which i thought was hysterical it was just like "then i stole his ps4" lmao as u should) and someone was trying to stop her from finding this information??? recall some mod on that conspiracy theory message board warning her about the bee and key and sword symbols and then another person messaging her "crown heart feather"????? yeah remember that?????????? i thought it was really cool watching kat try to follow his trail and almost recalling what had happened to him originally trying to figure out sweet sorrows, except this time she had his own clues that he left behind to follow.

- well, we know she ended up with a door and a key. hi what was that???? mirabel and the Keeper and rhyme were definitely all hanging out outside that warehouse waiting for her to go in. this suggests to me that they may have found a new Harbor but were all the Harbors abandoned or was this one still flourishing? i think the ending left us with more questions than answers but they were satisfying questions and not annoying ones. i liked that about it.

Mirabel & the Keeper & Rhyme

- well we know that the Keeper is no longer bound to his Harbor anymore, so he and Mirabel and Rhyme are basically free to do whatever they want now?

- we leave them outside the warehouse talking about how Zachary ended up with a happy ending and that's it I think? they're all prepared to live in the outside world wearing their Normal People Clothes (tm) so i guess that couldve been where their story was headed, but if Kat's about to find another Harbor or if Zachary and Dorian and Eleanor are or if they're both about to find the same Harbor (what if the the latter three end up finding a Harbor and coming out of the door that Kat finds???????)

That One Cat That Hung Out With Zachary And Watched Over Dorian After Zachary Died

- felt the need to mention the cat

- im sure he is okay

- i think he is on Eleanor's ship

- i think he will go with them wherever they go

All in all!!! I'll circle back to that one thing i said which is that this ending left more questions than it did answers but in a good way, like not in a cliffhanger-y but more of a "this part of the story is over, but there are so many more stories to be told afterward and everyone is going into their own!" it was super amazing and i have been dying to ramble about it to someone who has actually read it and therefore can take spoilers so thank you!! also dying to know who your favorite character is. okay byeeeee
