Check Yes (to go on a date with a dead guy)
Chapter 1
The expectant smiles froze on his siblings’ faces.
Jason blinked, still shaking off the disorientation of the green twisting blur that always came when he took his turn with tHe RitUaL. “What?” he said. It came out defensive. Usually they were all laughing by this point.
Dick reached out and took the post-it off his forehead. “We may have misunderstood this sacrificial thing.” He frowned at the note.
Jason tore it away and flipped it around to read it.
“...Please stop the bridal sacrifices,” he read, voice instantly trembling with the need to laugh. Holy shit. “Proposal is kinda forward. But if you really want, I’d totally go on a date with you. Check yes or no. Danny.” There were two smiley faces after the name and a scribbled drawing of a human looking guy with tall hair.
The batcave was in total, mortified silence. The ritual that had become their pre-patrol goof-off activity of choice had maybe… maybe been a mistake?
“I’m kinda hurt,” Dick broke the silence. “I’m marriageable. I’m a catch, even.” He was joking, but Jason was pretty sure that it wasn’t totally baseless. Who would look at Dick and then choose Jason, of all the people?
Stephanie snorted. “It’s probably your reputation as Ritchie Rich,” she soothed. “I’m sure if this… is it the same guy every time?” She blinked, clearly distracted from her original thought. “Have we all been proposing to Danny day after day?” She wondered. She started counting on her fingers.
“Twice last week,” Tim said thoughtfully. “I proposed to him twice last week.” A line formed between his brows. “I should probably tell Bernard, huh?”
“We must communicate with whoever this Danny is,” Damian said immediately. “If this realm possesses both animal life that resembles our fauna and sentient beings capable of the bad judgment necessary to select Todd as a suitor over Richard, we must know more.”
Jason made a face at Damian and flipped him off, but didn’t disagree. “How is this supposed to work?” He waved the post-it. That did imply some modernity, at least. They were communicating with someone who had stationary. “If I was going to check it, would he know what I picked? Or would I have to– should be bride sacrifice a notebook back and forth?”
“A notebook,” Tim said scathingly. “We can do better than that. A communicator, a phone.”
“Who says Danny has signal, dingbat,” Jason shot back. “He’s probably out of the service area.”
Cass took the paper out of his hand and peered at it. “Yes or no,” she asked, cutting off the disagreement before it could get heated.
He didn’t have to think about it. “Yes,” Jason said, mischief in every line of his body. “I gotta see where this is going. We should at least meet the guy.”
“He said you were tempting!” Dick gasped. He grabbed Jason by the arm and clung on. “Remember? The first time? You’re his type!”
Damian made a ‘gross’ face, features scrunched up like an unhappy cat. Stephanie ‘ooooed’ like she was watching a wrestling match. Cass merely looked thoughtful.
Jason shook his annoying brother off and kept him at a distance with a palm on Dick’s forehead.
“Oooh, the void boy has a crush on you,” Stephanie teased. “You’d be such a beautiful bride, Jason.” She didn’t react to Cass reaching into her hip pouch and withdrawing a sparkly purple pen. Jason loftily ignored Stephanie and watched Cass carefully check YES.
The note disappeared. Cass looked at her empty hand. She flicked the pen between her fingers. Her brow scrunched up.
“Shit!” Jason cursed. “Did-”
The group broke out into an explosion of excited sound.
A throat cleared from the stairs. “Kids?”
Batman stood there, wearing wary suspicion and most of his patrol outfit. He was under the impression that they had agreed to stop sacrificing each other to the green void.
“She took my pen,” Stephanie wailed, instantly switching tracks. Cass backflipped away three times and then leapt directly upwards into the rafters, waiving the purple pen tauntingly. Stephanie chased after her.
“What-”
“Jason won’t let me hug him,” Dick tattletailed. He lunged to grab at Jason. Jason dodged on reflex and threw himself into the scuffle.
“I need to call Bernard.” Tim turned and outright left the Batcave. “I’ll be about five minutes late for patrol, B.”
Bruce watched this chaos with bewildered eyes. “...We leave in ten,” he said, and visibly gave up.
The date, when it came, was a fuckin surprise to Jason. He was minding his own business compiling a report on everything the Two-Facers had done last week. (There was a surprising amount of bureaucratic process involved in making yourself the judge, jury, and executioner of people who sucked.)
And then there was a violently green hole in his wall. “Huh,” Jason said, leaning back in his chair. He pulled the handgun out of his desk drawer and cocked it at the portal. “Not sure I care for that.”
“Thanks, wolf,” came a warbled and nonsensical reply. Jason turned off the safety.
His brow furrowed. “What?”
The portal flashed white and it closed. He was lifting his gun to point at the man now standing in his apartment before he’d actually processed that someone had come through. This guy moved fast.
“This is where you live?” The other man was peering around Jason’s apartment. He seemed politely interested at best, and, Jason felt, much less concerned by the gun than he should have been. “I heard bats before. I thought there would be more bats.” His tone was disappointed. He looked at Jason and then flinched his palms out and up, as if he thought he might have come off rude. “Not that you need bats! Or that I’m disappointed by the lack of bats in your decor. In fact you have wonderful, uh, curtains.” He very obviously named the first thing that he saw. He pretended to be fascinated by them. “The red sure is a choice.”
Jason snorted.
“A great choice! I’m not criticizing your home. It’s great.”
Jason realized that if he didn’t say anything to save him, Danny was going to ramble himself into a verbal corner and slink out of the dimension to escape his obvious embarrassment.
“...You hair looks just like in the picture you drew,” Jason said. He put the safety back on. “Hello, Danny.” The name tasted odd in his mouth. It twas just a little pedestrian for the other man– no, teenager, the other teenager.
Danny looked young. No wonder he’d thrown Dic back like the wrong fish.
Jason felt a little less smug about having been the one chosen. Maybe he was just the most age appropriate candidate, not Danny’s type. Timmers was only two years younger, sure, but he was petite enough that it was a little ambiguous.
Danny turned away from Jason’s window and beamed up at him like that was the greated compliment he could have ever received. “I don’t actually have your name! Which is funny, since you kept manifesting in my house.”
God help him, Danny was cute. Jason reached out a hand. “Jason.”
Danny looked at his outstretched hand and then back to his eyes. He blinked. “Are- oh!” He flushed green and his hand shot out to meet Jason’s in what was very clearly the first handshake of his life.
It was a struggle not to laugh. He didn’t wanna make Danny feel bad so he held it in. There was a helpful distraction in that Danny was fascinating to the touch. It didn’t feel like he was touching a human hand. First off, the hand was about the temperature of butter straight from the fridge. Secondly, somehow the physical contact made Jason taste mint in his mouth.
But really, it just… it didn’t feel like human skin. It was too smooth. There was a raised line from a scar, but the texture was as if all the wrinkles and pores of human skin had been polished off. Like if you held the hand of a marble statue and it was somehow also soft.
Jason pulled his hand away before he could wonder too much if that supernatural smoothness extended elsewhere. Ah. Too late. He flushed a little red, even though the only exposed skin was Danny’s hands and face. “So you’re here to uh, set up a date?” he offered.
Danny blinked at him. “Are you busy now? I was thinking now.”
…He was sort of busy. Jason closed his notebooks, only now concerned that Danny might have seen extremely sensitive information. “Nope,” he lied, attention catching on Danny’s freckles. Something about them was pinging as relevant. Was there a pattern? They weren’t symmetrical or anything. Were they fake?
Danny beamed and - he floated up a few inches in his excitement. Holy hell that was cute. “Great!” he enthused. “Should we go to your place or to mine?”
Uh.
Jason turned violently red. “We are already in my place.” His voice came out tight. He- he hadn’t meant that. That was not a first date activity for him.
It took a few seconds for the penny to drop. “Go out in your city or go to the Ghost Zone!” Danny waved his hands frantically. “I’m not being a creep I swear! I mean, we are kind of spiritually engaged but I’m also engaged to– are those people your friends and family?” He was outright horrified. “Oh my GOD, I’m-”
“I would love to take you out around town, but you’ll stand out,” Jason interrupted. He couldn’t hold back the smile. “We can make it work, though. Thoughts on hats and glowing less?”
“Oh, that’s easy.” Danny twitched his hands outward in a motion he probably didn’t even know he was doing. There was another flash of white light that crawled up and down his body.
And Danny one was gone. Danny two stood in Jason’s apartment with dark hair, patched jeans, and a loose t-shirt that hid the musculature his jumpsuit had displayed. He had a full palette switch of his eyes and skin tone as well.
He was obviously the same guy. He just felt more down to earth now.
“Useful,” Jason said, and tugged at his snow-white forelock. “Think you could teach me to change my hair like that?” He was only half joking. It was the bane of his existence when he needed to go undercover. It was too distinctive.
“No, but Doctor Frostbite might be able to sort that out for you,” Danny replied absently.
Jason grimaced instinctively. He knew way too many gimmicky villains to want to do to someone called Doctor Frostbite. “That sounds like the name of a B-tier villain with blue hair.”
Danny paused and clearly contemplated it. “That’s Ember, actually,” which made no branding sense because the word ember evoked warm colors. “Lead the way!” He bounced on his heels, which Jason guessed was his human form equivalent to floating up.
Jason cleared his throat. “I, uh, am gonna want to change.”
For the first time, Danny really looked him up and down and realized that he was wearing a white sleeveless undershirt and black boxers. Jason waited patiently as Danny went through all the stages of grief and social mortification. That didn’t stop Danny’s eyes from followed Jason’s bare arms when he casually lifted one and flexed a little, rubbing at the back of his head. Ha. Eat that, Dick.
“I’m going to go drown myself,” Danny said, now violently pink. Huh, even blushing for a color change. “Can I use your restroom?”
“Stay alive enough to pick between Korean or Mexican,” Jason advised. “I’ll be right back. Should I find you a coat?” He didn’t wait for an answer, frowning at Danny’s bare arms. “I’m gonna find you a coat.” He was already on the way to his bedroom. “It’s freezing out.”

#thebardsbodyguard
“Hello and welcome back, we just got to hear a sample of the new single 'We Don’t Have to Dance' from Grammy winning group Corroded Coffin and we have here the lead singer and guitarist, Edward Munson.”
Eddie waves from his spot on the couch with a shy smile, he’s still getting used to all the interviews and stuff that come with the rockstar gig.
“Thank you for joining us, we are so excited to have you here.”
“That’s sweet, thank you. I’m not used to hearing my full name, made me think I was in trouble for a second.” Eddie chuckles and so do the others on the couch as well as the audience.
“I know right, everytime I hear my full name I just-” Chris Pine straightens and looks around like he’s waiting for a parent or teacher to jump out and Eddie laughs because it’s true. The couch also has Stephanie Hsu who Eddie met briefly during the break when she asked what kind of music he did. Overall it feels less stressful than other interviews, he just has to remember that even if a joke doesn’t sit well with him to just smile and nod or Jeff will strangle him.
“So Eddie, you and your band just wrapped your second tour a few months ago and you’re already putting out a new album soon. How do you find the time to just churn out music like that?”
“Well, every member of the band pitches in to write our songs. So everytime we’re home with our friends or families we always have stuff going on, things to experience or draw on to make music. And we’re very close so we’re always meeting up to bounce ideas off each other.”
“That’s right I hear you guys all play Dungeons & Dragons togethers and you have since-”
“Since high school, yeah. I had to repeat my senior twice before I found out I had ADHD and there were days where those games were the only things that kept me going.”
Graham turns to Chris and Eddie is grateful for a moment to take a sip of his drink and fix his sleeve which is just a smidge too tight. “Chris I know you didn’t play before but have you started since being in the Dungeons & Dragons movies.”
“We did a one shot…,” he trails off and glances at Eddie who nods in confirmation, “One shot to promote the second one with John running it and it was fun but there’s just so much to memorize.”
“And you Stephanie, did you do anything like that?”
She shakes her head with a beautiful smile, “No, I heard about D&D growing up and it’s become so popular now. I tend to be outdoors- I’m still outdoors a lot, handling the farm and the gardens and such.”
“More power to you,” Eddie offers her a cheers with his glass, “I grew up in farm country but I’m terrible at keeping plants alive.” No, that honor goes to Steve who loves growing things in their apartment.
“Before we go, Eddie I have one more question for you. I know you’re not on social media much but the internet is just dying to know about that gorgeous bodyguard of yours-”
“Bodyguard? What bodyguard?” Eddie interrupts as Graham pulls out his tablet and presses a button to pull up several images from social media. In them is Eddie and a very handsome brunette man holding open the door of a cafe and walking with him into a venue with a hand on Eddie’s back. The same brunette is pictured picking up Eddie after a speaker tipped over and caused Eddie to twist an ankle during a show. All of the images are tagged #thebardsbodyguard or some similar iteration. Eddie frowns and points at the screen, at the gorgeous man he knows like the back of his hand,
“Wait, you mean my husband?”
Twitter goes down for three hours after. Eddie and Steve are trending on Tumblr for days. People scrounge up photos of them from high school, pictures of Steve from the swim team and Eddie from Hellfire club surface and float around the internet. The length of their romance is speculated on as well as when they got married. Some clever fan notes the ring Eddie wears on the same chain as his guitar pick around his neck and the bat wing tattoo on his ring finger that appeared around the same time. The only thing no one finds is the wedding. It had been a close friends and family only event and none of their people would ever share Steve and Eddie’s personal lives like that.
Eddie does eventually give a single interview about his relationship with Steve but after that refuses any others with a request for privacy. He does however post a single photo of he and Steve in their wedding tuxes on Halloween that year. The two of them smiling side by side, foreheads tipped together, eyes closed. Steve is laying on Eddie’s chest when he posts it, having given final approval on the selected photo, while they share a slice of cheesecake for their anniversary.
“Love you Stevie.”
“Love you too, my bard.”

The Robins as RA’s Because I Said So
Credentials: I’m an RA, trust me.
Dick Grayson: The “Cool” RA
His friends told him he’d be great at it so he applied
Holds your hair back when you’re throwing up in the bathroom
Gives life lessons at every opportunity even when you don’t want them
Sees his residents in the hallway and proceeds to talk their ear off
Knocks on your door if he hasn’t seen you in a few days to make sure you’re doing alright
Has the “I’m not mad. I’m just disappointed” face on point
You actually feel bad when he catches you drinking in the halls :(
Jason Todd: The Cool RA
Wanted something to pad his resume so he applied
Will help you hide a body. “Just ask.” You didn’t, but you can’t remember how it came up either
Doesn’t care about the Rules, per se, but he will judge you for lacking common sense
“You know what, Derek? I’m writing you up just for being stupid. You could have at least put it in a paper bag.”
Organizes all of his events last minute, best attendance in the building
One day, he lets it slip that he has a 4.3 GPA
No one believes him until he actually shows them with a shit-eating grin plastered on his face
Tim Drake: The Invisible RA
Didn’t want to go apartment hunting so he applied for the free housing
Do you even have an RA? Does he even live here?
Apparently, he’s like triple-majoring or something, but like…no one knows what for. Or how. (He's really Undecided)
Does the bare minimum, but somehow still excels at his job
Everyone who sees him has a completely different description of what he looks like
One person starts the rumor that he’s a vampire, which is only made worse when someone sees him looking ghostly pale while chugging some weird red drink (Ultra Red Monster) in the middle of the night
Stephanie Brown: The Best Friend RA
One of those people who actually likes living in student housing so she applied
Gossips with everyone
“You didn’t hear this from me but-“ and “What am I, your mother?” are her most common phrases
Will probably get fired just because of how many university secrets she’s spilled
Keeps her door open at all times, her room is super cute too
One of her residents walks in and says, “You won’t believe what my boyfriend did this time!” Stephanie is already popping popcorn.
Will let you get away with shit if you make a good case for yourself
Damian Wayne: The Try-Hard RA
It’s a tradition in his family now, and he takes those very seriously, so he applied
A troublemaker’s worst nightmare
He will catch you drinking. No one knows how. Even his boss thinks it’s suspicious.
Seconds from a mental breakdown at all times of the day
Absolutely livid when the event he spent the least amount of effort on gets the best attendance (He just brought all of his art supplies to the lounge and taught people how to draw)
Writes incident reports like they’re addressed to the Pentagon
A resident comes to his door crying because her grandmother passed away, and Damian completely blanks on what to do so he lets her into his room and gives her a really long hug while she calms down, then he sits her down and lets her vent for an hour. A week later, she comes back and thanks him for being there when she needed it. It sticks with him for years.

I Don’t Believe You Care
Y’all are my beta readers XD if you see any errors please let me know. I’m going to post this on AO3 later.
Part one here
------
The scolding that Bruce gave Damian was the gentlest either of them had ever received, but it did cow Damian enough that he behaved while meeting Cass and Stephanie. It helped that they were sweet, Stephanie was a bit energetic and overwhelming but Cass was quiet and seemed to understand them better. She helped reign in the over-enthusiastic family friend and Danny was glad to have her as a sister. She didn’t speak much, she communicated in signs that he didn’t understand but he thought that he could learn in time, and he wanted to. When he told her so she smiled and Steph squealed, insisting loudly and brightly that they would be happy to teach him!
He couldn’t help but feel relieved that when Alfred asked Stephanie if she would be staying for dinner she joked that she should actually spend some time at home for once. It seemed like she didn’t live here, though they knew of her identity as Spoiler and her involvement with the bats, all her noise and movement wouldn’t be a consistent presence around the house. Not that Danny didn’t like her! He just thought he’d like her best in relatively small doses before she could overwhelm him.
He would ask Cass to teach him when Steph wasn’t here, it might be just slightly trickier, but he could use the excuse of letting the two friends spend the time they had together. And maybe Tim could help him practice? He must know how to communicate with his sibling after all, and Danny could already tell he and Tim were going to get along.
He was even more glad that Steph had gone when Dick arrived because as the man came barrelling in like a hurricane Danny didn’t want to think of how much chaos and noise they would be together! For all his practice in social graces they really should have prepared him for this chaos, crowds, and friendly contact. But the compound had been short sighted and ill prepared in such regards.
Dick was the worst, Danny was almost jealous of Damian who could snarl and squirm and draw a knife on the man when Dick tried to hug him. Danny put on a smile and forced a laugh and pretended that his instinctual reaction to being held like this didn’t make him want to bite and rend. He knew that Dick meant well, or at least he thought so, the man was honestly famously good natured and cared for his family. Danny wanted to be on his good side, and couldn’t bring himself to actually say he didn’t want to be touched, or at least wasn’t used to it. The sudden, quick, and broad movements Dick favoured with his dramatics made Danny want to flinch though he had better self control then that!
He dodged hugs as gracefully as he could for the rest of the night and managed to sit him and Damian between Bruce and Tim for dinner, with Danny sitting next to Tim of course. The food was good, and everyone in the family was very welcoming, but by the end of it Danny was exhausted.
He was good at this sort of thing, trained to charm, and redirect apparently effortlessly, but the thing was it wasn’t effortless, and these sorts of situations were harder to simulate then battle. Danny had done a good job, he could tell that he had them charmed, and had them warming up to Damian too actually, but he also knew that he was drooping. He should hide his fatigue, but he was still human, he yawned.
“You’ve had a long day young masters,” Alfred said, instantly picking up on the mood, he was an impressive man and they both knew it. “Now that you’ve eaten why don’t you go settle in your rooms and get some rest? I took the liberty of going to buy you some pajamas and basics that should fit the two of you. I’m sure Master Bruce will be happy to take you both out to buy clothes more suited to your taste tomorrow,” he added.
“I think that’s a good idea, don’t you Damian,” Danny asked, glancing over at his brother.
“I’m not tired,” Damian harrumphed, of course he wouldn’t admit defeat. “But I would like to see where we will be staying,” He added. No doubt he’d thoroughly check security and for any potential surveillance before he slept. Danny wasn’t going to bother.
“Very good young Masters,” Alfred said with a nod, pausing to look back at Dick. “Will you be staying the night as well?” He asked the older man, who gave a rueful smile and shook his head.
“I’m needed in Bludhaven, I was able to come for the day on such short notice but I couldn’t get more time off. I’ll schedule a proper vacation as soon as possible so I can come back and visit!” He said giving Danyal and Damian an encouraging smile, and Danny did a good job of looking disappointed that Dick was leaving even though he was glad to have some time to get his feet under him before more of the family would be under the same roof once more. Maybe he hadn’t been as subtle as he thought about dodging Dick’s affection though, because he didn’t try to hug either of the boys goodbye.
He bid their siblings farewell and followed Alfred up to his bedroom, seeing Damian into his first and then going into his own. He was quick to brush his teeth and change into the comfortable, soft pajamas they’d been bought which did fit perfectly. Unfortunately when he flopped down into bed, regardless of how exhausted he was, he couldn’t sleep. He kept replaying the events of the day, how he did, how he could have done better, what he had learned about the family and what it meant.
After maybe an hour once things had gone quiet on the other side of the wall and he thought Damian was asleep Danny sighed and got up. He opened his window and climbed out, he braced his feet on the sill and shoved off, jumping unnaturally high for a human to grab on the edge of the roof and drag himself up onto it. He scrambled up gracefully and silently, finding a comfortable place to lay, looking up at the sky. He stayed there, zoning out for a while before he heard a soft thump on the roof near him.
“How did you get up here?” Bruce asked, dressed as Batman this time, Danny glanced over and gave him a small smile.
“You can’t really see the stars here,” he said, looking back up at the sky. “I won’t miss much about the compound, but I’ll miss the stars.”
“Not settling in particularly well?” Batman asked, sitting down on the ridge of the roof, a respectable distance between them.
“Oh I’ll be alright,” Danny said with a shrug. “They always raised me to be your heir after all, Damian will have more trouble than me. Want some advice?”
“Hm,” Batman said, an affirmative sound.
“Take him to a zoo, buy him art supplies. He’ll deny he cares about such things, but I know him better then anyone and he does. Once he realizes he really can be himself out here, that’ll help start undoing the brainwashing.”
“How are you so insightful about the situation? You can’t have avoided the brain washing.” Batman asked, and Danny shrugged. “What about you?”
“What about me?” Danny asked, glancing over just for a moment.
“How do I bond with you?” Bruce asked, and Danny laughed.
“You don’t have to. I don’t need to be won over or convinced. Our grandfather is a violent fool who only cares for himself, teaching me to recognize manipulation showed me what he really was years ago. If you turned me away entirely I still wouldn’t go back to the league.” He said with a wry smile.
“Hm,” Batman sounded unimpressed. “You’re still my son. I’d like to bond with you?”
Danny sighed, not sure why Batman was being stubborn when his energy was best spent elsewhere. He sat up and looked over at Batman, tilting his head slightly. “I don’t need you,” He said somewhat bluntly. “Damian does, give him your focus. If you truly want you can buy me an instrument, and books on astronomy.”
Batman nodded thoughtfully and Danny lay back down, there was a few moments of quiet between them before B spoke up again. “How did you get up here?” He asked again and Danny sighed.
“I guess you have to know eventually,” He murmured. “Part of the reason we’re both here is because Grandfather couldn’t decide who he wanted to be his heir, it was always supposed to be Damian but something happened and suddenly I was a much more attractive choice.”
“What happened?” B prompted after a moment.
“You know about the Pits? Most people dunked in it come back less, in the mind usually, sometimes less human, feral and monstrous. But rarely, once in the blue moon, someone comes back more.” Danny glanced over at Batman, and when he blinked he let his eyes flash green, glowing with the vile waters the kept Ra’s limping along. He could have explained more about the ways that he was different now, but he didn’t want to let on more then he had to at this point. He wasn’t naive enough to trust Bruce just because they shared blood, so he simply said; “I came back More, and I mean, I’m still a trained assassin, I probably could still have gotten up here even if I hadn’t.”
“But seemingly being chosen by Lazarus made me seem like a better option to grandfather, and your… complicated feelings towards empowered people is well known. So they didn’t know if you’d like me anymore.” His eyes faded back to blue and he looked up at the sky again, he couldn’t read Bruce’s expression under the cowl anyway. “It took a lot of subtle work to convince them to send us both so you could ‘decide which of us you wanted’.”
“Do you expect me to choose one of you?” Bruce asked, unreadable as ever.
“No, not really, you clearly like having many children. Damian still thinks now that you have a biological heir you’ll turn your adopted children away, but that’s grandfather talking and he’s a fool. If you do choose one then choose Damian, I’ll be fine on my own but he needs the help navigating this world. He’s strong, he’s clever, he’s more observant than me, he’ll make a good detective. He’ll be more loyal than me once you win him over too. He’ll be harder to break of the bad habits, I’ve never been as good at killing as him, but once he learns the way you do things I think he’ll be a good Robin.” Danny said, pulling up his knees and wrapping his arms around them, it was a bit chilly on the roof.
Batman hummed and nodded, which was good, if he had continued to push Danny would have had to bring up Jason. He knew that Jason was alive of course, but Bruce didn’t and Danyal would say he was more likely to end up like Jason if he had to but that was a last resort.
“Well I want you to know that both of you are very welcome here. And neither of you have to be Robin, or anything that you don’t want to be. I’ll support you in whatever you want to do, and you being a meta doesn’t change that at all. Both of you have a home here,” Bruce assured.
Danny nodded and gave Bruce a smile before standing up and smiling. “That’s good to hear,” He said, while not believing it at all. Bruce couldn’t and shouldn’t offer such unconditional support after just meeting them. “I should get back inside, it’s getting cold, and I am tired,” He said, wandering over the edge of the roof and stepping off, twisting around to grab the edge and swung off and back through the window before closing the window and brushing himself off so he wouldn’t get to much dirt in his sheets before crawling into bed.
He wasn’t fully asleep before the door to his room opened just enough for Damian to slip inside, he wasn’t surprised, Damian and he weren’t as independent from each other as they acted like they were. “You should have locked your door and blocked it somehow. We cannot trust the mongrels Father has taken in,” he hissed at Danny.
“Damian, shut up and get over here,” Danny mumbled sleepily, not bothering to open his eyes as he lifted the blankets on the other side of the bed. He heard a scoff and waited as Damian did whatever he needed to to feel like the room was secure and then came over to slide into bed next to Danny. Danny held out his arm, they didn’t exactly cuddle even when like this, but Damian liked to hold Danny’s wrist and feel his pulse. He had done it when they were younger but he had stopped for a while, it had only started up again after he had watched Danny die, it was understandable.
Damian wrapped one hand around Danny’s wrist, seeking out his pulse and tucked the other arm under his pillow, no doubt stashing a knife there. “None of them are going to hurt us Dami. They’re used to having multiple siblings, they probably compete, but other then one notable exception we’ve never heard of any of them trying to kill each other have we?”
“You don’t know that, Father’s has never had a biological child before, they must recognize we’re more of a threat then the others,” Damian argued in hushed tones.
“They won’t, we haven’t even proven ourselves yet. We could be incompetent.”
“We’re not!” Damian objected, his voice raising just a little and Danny hushed him softly.
“No, we’re not, but they don’t know that. I would suggest we keep out heads down for at least a month, we learned what we could about them from a distance but we should observe them. We’ve never been out of the compound except on missions, we have a lot to learn and whoever does end up his heir will have to be able to pretend to be normal. I intend to take Tim up on the lessons on popular media, perhaps it isn’t practical, but what about when we inevitably have to interact with people our own age at parties? What about interviews?
“We don’t want to reflect badly on father and if we don’t know Anything about such thing, or have any hobbies, or anything of the sort people will assume he treats us poorly.” Danny murmured and Damian harumphed, even without opening his eyes Danny could tell Damian was gritting his teeth.
“Why should we care what the uncultured masses think?” He hissed furiously and Danny cracked a small smile.
“Because father does. As the Bat his reputation is half of his weapon, and his identity as Bruce Wayne is carefully crafted to both divert suspicion from him being Batman and to make people like him. Father understands well how ones image is a tool, and being a good father is part of his image as Bruce Wayne, we will have to play into it if we want to succeed.” Danyal explained as gently as he could, he didn’t believe all of what he was saying really, or at least the way that he was framing it. He was framing it in the way he thought was best to make Damian start giving the outside world a chance, and hoping that when he did give it a chance he would find he liked it.
It was quiet for a long time which was good, it meant that Damian was properly considering what Danny had to say. He was nearly asleep before Damian spoke again, rousing Danny from his half doze. “Alright, knowing these ‘siblings’ patterns would help, and I can concede the point on the importance of reputation,” He said stiffly.
Danyal had to suppress a smile at his brother’s tone. “Good. And try to remember that unlike Mother and Grandfather batman has a rule against killing. Anything you do you must make sure it is never tracked back to us, especially because he’s not going to suddenly stop caring about them because we share his blood. If he finds out we hurt one of them it would absolutely ruin our chances, or be a huge set back at the very least,” He added, again trying to gently steer his brother in the direction he wanted. He was being manipulative, but it was the way he knew that worked.
“Father should know better then to develop such misplaced attachments,” Damian grumbled but then after a moment of silence he sighed and nodded. “All of our missions have had to be done in secret anyway, with time and planning we’ll manage.”
Well, it had bought them time and that had been Danyal’s goal so he nodded as well. “Good, now sleep Ahki, we’ve both had a long day and I’m tired.”
Damian let out a soft hum and that was all, he kept hold of Danny’s wrist even as he fell asleep, as he always did. Danny liked it too, the physical reminder that Damian was there, that they were safely together. He didn’t think that either of them would have to sneak out before dawn to make sure they weren’t caught and punished for such childish behaviour, he truly felt like they could rest.

Jude beinh Inlove with readers accent?
The Sound of Your Voice
jb5 x f!pen latina!reader
I love this.
Summary: You’re playing UNO with ur family Jude which brings out your anger, which brings out your accent.
It wasn’t that your accent was thick or anything but you did have one and it came out when ur mad. You were currently VERY mad. You were in the living room playing UNO with your mom, dad, older sister Stephanie, and your three older brothers, Ivan, Evan, and Christopher, Jude was also playing with you seven and let’s just say that he was having the time of his life.
Hearing you get angry at any of your siblings for either skipping your turn, making you draw four cards, or choosing a color that you didn’t have in your current stack. It all angered you, and worst of all that said NO stacking because they would’ve all lost to you.
Jude on the other hand was enjoying all this, your sudden out bursts of rage that filled you when you got skipped AGAIN. Only this time it wasn’t Stephanie, it wasn’t Christopher, Evan, OR Ivan… it was your dad. Your own father. you suddenly get up and do a lap around the kitchen table. “LOOK IF ONE OF YOU DO THIS TO ME AGAIN I’LL KICK YOU. THIS ISN’T FUNNY.” you yelled in a thick accent.
It kind of reflex of your vocal cords that once you got mad or you were super excited you started sounding like Gloria from Modern Family. (I love Sofia Vergara) and it only happened to you. Only you. And Jude ate it up every time. He loved it, he loved the way you pronounced certain words, the way you would roll your ‘r’s’, he loved everything about it
As everyone laughed at you Jude was looking at you in awe, like he was in love with you accent itself, so he stood up and followed you, as now you were doing a lap around the WHOLE house “Love come back” he says pleading as if you were leaving him “No. ellos piensan que son tan graciosos.” (No they think they’re so funny)
“oh my goodness, please babe, they’re just trying to have fun.” he says trying to calm you down, but to be honest you didn’t know why you were so worked up, it was just a game. “You know what? You’re right this is so stupid. Fuck why am I mad?” you ask him like he knew the answer to the question “I don’t know angel. But all I know is that I love the sound of your voice” he says smiling at you “Gracias mi amor” (thank you my love)
Y’ALL DID I EAT THIS UP?!?!?!?! I HOPE I DID🤑🔥

Tumblr media
i bet your shoulders can hold more than
just the straps of that tiny dress
that i’ll help you slide aside
when we get home
joel watches you from across the room, talking to some of the other women in jackson. he sees you laughing, the sight of your smile putting him at ease, knowing that you were at least comfortable.
it’s been a few months since the three of you arrived in jackson: yourself, joel and ellie. ellie was the first one to settle in, happy to be somewhere that wasn’t the QZ or the outside world, and you were soon to follow after her. all you ever wanted was a peaceful place to live, and jackson was the closest thing to it. and joel, he was the last, but only because he couldn’t settle until both you and ellie had.
the dress you wore was white and short, it hugged your chest tightly and pushed your breasts up like a corset would. joel didn’t know where you found that dress, but he’s glad you did. all he’s been thinking about is taking you home, slipping that dress off your body and worshipping you like a theist to their god.
he walks over, places his hand on your waist in a gentle grip and forcefully smiles at the rest of the women. “excuse me, ladies, need some time with my girl.” joel watches as the women nod enthusiastically, he doesn’t know if it’s because they like how he treats you or just like him. he doesn’t know because he can’t read other women, he’s only ever spent his time learning you.
“hi, honey.” you smile brightly at him, looking into his eyes with such care that joel feels himself melting under your gaze.
“missed ‘ya, darlin.” he tells you, pressing a sweet kiss to your lips, causing you to giggle.
“was only across the room. could’ve joined in the conversation.” he hums, continuing to press a series of kisses across your face. “joel!” you squeal playfully.
“wouldn’t be able to focus when i got you by my side, darlin.” his southern twang hits in the pet name. “‘specially when you wear that dress. ‘s sin, baby, look at ‘cha .” he runs his hands up and down your hips, drawing you in closer to his chest. you smile at him, hands hooking together round the back of his neck. “feel so damn good against me, sugar.”
you giggle. “then do something about it, tex.” joel stares at you, hunger flashing through his brown eyes as he drunkenly takes you in. he’s drunk off you, the idea of you, the thought of you. he’s wrapped around your finger, and if he has it his way, you’ll be wrapped up in the sheets together in no time.
i’ve seen em carry family
and the steel drum weight of me
effortless just like that dress
that i’ll help off
that day was the worst. joel being injured meant you and ellie were left to your own. she trusted you, she always did, you had always cared for her. before marlene, before joel; there was you. you taught her the tricks with her knife, you taught her how to tackle, to fight, the same way your uncle taught you when the outbreak began.
two innocent, vulnerable women seen by themselves in the wilderness would’ve caught anyone’s attention. especially ellie, a young girl who seemingly looks alone and lost. you knew you should’ve fought harder to have her stay with joel whilst you collect supplies. it wasn’t her fault you both got caught in that position, you should’ve warned her.
but it was too late.
you were both locked up in delegate cages across the room from one another. david torments you by talking to ellie. he doesn’t know that you’re not the same scared little girl you were way back when your uncle was still alive, but he will know soon. when his time has come.
he seems giddy as he walks over to her, child-like charm in his step, maybe from all the years he’d snatched it away from other children did he take it for himself. you didn’t understand that before, but you do now. you understand perfectly. you know who he is, what he does, you watched and experienced it for an entire three days.
but, for whatever reason, you’re back in his trap, ellie by your side. making every killer instinct in your body heighten.
you looked over to her. she was sat down whilst you were stood up. she’s looking at you in what you know is fear, and for a second, her face blurs and you’re staring into the eyes of your fourteen year old self. you’re snapped out of it by david telling her to look at him, not you. his hand reaches behind the bars of her cell. that’s when you snap.
“move the fuck away, david.” you hiss, body pressed up against the bars of your cell. he looks at you, smirks, before turning back round to face ellie. you know you’re letting him win by reacting to his psychological torture, this warfare he seems to have mastered countless times, but he doesn’t know who you are now, what you’re capable of. so you showed him.
ellie stood watching as you stabbed him with his own machete. you didn’t notice she was still with you, but ideally, you should’ve known better. you should’ve known she doesn’t go anywhere without you.
you’re crying out, over and over again as you face the brute that is reality as it strikes you in the face, harder than the machete does to david. ellie almost faced the same fate you did, she’s seen too much, she’s been through too much, she’s only a kid. you could’ve done better to protect her. you could’ve-
hands cupping your face stop your train of thoughts and your actions. joel is knelt down next to you, looking at you with such sincerity and love that you can’t even process that his injury is healed and that he’s here. his hands feel so soft, so tender. they are calloused and rough from years of hard labour but the way he holds you suggests differently, like he’s spent a lifetime waiting to hold you.
“baby, look at me.” his texan accent heightened. “sweet girl,” his pointer finger gently taps your cheek “look at me. i got you. ‘s just us, baby, ‘s just us.” you feel ellie by your side again, and you unconsciously lift your arm for her to tuck herself into your side as joel welcomes you both into his waiting arms.
“‘s just us.”
you had come back to the house after being out in the school the entire day. you had never considered yourself as someone who liked kids, too sticky and messy for you. ellie was the only exception, and she had been with you since you were a teenager.
maria was opting to give you the job at the school per your request. you wanted something easy, something that didn’t require you to look over your damn shoulder every waking second. you wanted to settle, to rest, to find peace, and you finally had the opportunity to do so in jackson.
when you got to the house that joel, ellie, and yourself were staying at, you didn’t expect to hear shouting. you ran up the stairs, just in time to see joel leave ellie’s room. you glare at him, hitting his shoulder with your own as he walks past. you make your way over to ellie, but you can tell by the way she doesn’t look your way that she wants to be by herself. you whisper to her, before leaving and walking into joel’s room.
“what the fuck was that?” the venomous tone in your voice causes his gaze to snap towards you. “the fuck did you say to her.”
“calm down-”
“calm down? calm down?! you tell me what you said to her right now, joel.” you move towards him, finger pushing into his chest. he sighs, gently moving your hand away.
“started talking to me about loss. she doesn’t know what loss is.” he says with such certainty, like he’s confident in his words and that makes the urge to hit him heighten. joel shakes his head. “ain’t her damn father, either.”
“think about what you’ve just said.”
“darlin-”
“dont darlin’ me! ellie watched her best friend turn into a fucking infected and couldn’t do anything until i showed up! you know how much she begged me not to kill riley?” your eyes tear up. “she begged, pleaded with me, joel. i couldn’t risk it. i couldn’t risk riley hurting her. i couldn’t live with that.” your breathing is erratic. “then tess, then sam and…and you pushing her away isn’t helping.”
you’re angry, you’re in his face practically hissing at him. “we’ve all lost something, joel. she lost her childhood, her best friend. the only people she has right now are me and you, and if you’re not willing to be there, then fucking go! ‘cause i’m staying, with or without you i’m staying with her.” a tear slides down your cheek, and you’re quick to wipe it away.
“you may not be her father, but the way you act with her says otherwise, ‘nd i’m not giving that girl another person to lose. so either stay, or don’t bother. but if you choose the latter…don’t come near us again.”
“don’t tempt me, darlin’.” joel smirks, lips lightly grazing your cheek as they make their way back down to your lips. he pecks them one, two, three times before you’re pulling him in for a passionate and heartfelt kiss.
“not doing anything.” you laugh into the kiss, wrapping your arms around his neck, fingers twirling into the bottom of his curled hair and he elicits a hushed groan. “just showing my man some love, that so bad, tex?”
he pulls away, leaning his forehead against yours. “say your goodbyes, baby, ‘m taking you home.” joel lightly kisses your forehead. “ellie’s staying with dina tonight, means you’re all mine.” he smirks, kissing your forehead again.
“oh really?” you grin, now holding his hand in yours. his smirk widens, and it tells you that he’s not joking. that you have ten seconds to wander off to say your goodbyes or else he’s carrying you over his shoulder out of here. “i’ll be back.”
he watched you walk over to the women, giving them all a gentle hug as you wave your goodbyes. telling them that you best get home before ellie starts to grow concerned. when you’re finished, you walk back over to joel, who wraps his arm around your waist and pulls you into him as you walk away.
because i’ve seen you
and i know you
and i’m not going anywhere
“i’m scared.” he says. you look up at him, arms folded over your chest. it’s not long after your earlier confrontation about what he said to ellie. you’re both sat across from each other, him sat at the dining room table and you on the sofa.
“about what?” you ask.
“she…i can’t protect her. not like you can. i’m old an…and i’m tired, darlin’. i ain’t made for this, can’t look after myself, let alone a teenage girl and yourself.” he doesn’t look at you whilst he speaks. it’s like he can’t say it to your face, saying it to your face means the truth in his admission and he’s not ready to look into your alluring eyes and face the reality of his feelings.
“you’ve taken care of us pretty damn well, joel.” you sit up, arms no longer folded but bent and resting on your knees.
“but i won’t for much longer. i’m so much older than you, sweetheart, i’m fuckin’ deaf in one ear and i ain’t as sharp as i used to be. ellie needs someone to protect her, ‘s why she’s got you.”
“she has you too.”
“i can’t help her, can’t be the man you need, either.” he takes a deep breath in, and your eyes catch the way his hands slightly tremble. he’s never been like this with anyone, so vulnerable, so open. him and tess seemed to have their own dynamic. business partners, friends, lovers, whatever the fuck it was, but you can tell by the lack of eye contact and body language that he never opened up to her like he’s doing with you right now.
“when…when the dogs were there, smelling her. i knew they smelt something on her, but i didn’t do anything. all i could do was stand there and panic.”
“you couldn’t do anything. any movements we made would’ve made everyone suspicious.” you state.
“couldn’t even protect my own daughter and-” he shakes, you can see the tears in his eyes and he’s not even looking at you. “i failed her, and ‘m gonna fail you both now.”
you stand up immediately, walking over to his chair until you’re stood between his legs. your hands find their place on either side of his face, thumbs stroking his cheeks and brushing away his tears, forcing him to look up at you. you hesitate, but your thumb gently traces the scar on his temple, and you hear him take a sharp breath in at the simple, yet doting touch of the place that marks the darkest time of his life after the death of his daughter.
“you’ve never failed us. not at the beginning, and definitely not now. you’ve done so much to protect us, tex. taking on a fourteen year old girl is a lot, but taking on me, too? well, i have to applaud you for that.” he laughs. “but don’t think i don’t admire you for what you’ve done. hell, most men out there would’ve ditched us when they had the chance but you? you stuck by, guided us, saved us, loved ellie like a daughter. a…and, you’ve made me feel at home.” a soft smile graced your lips. “everything you’ve done for us, been for us? that’s home.”
because i’ve seen you
and i know you
and i’m not going anywhere
“i’ve got you.” you say, grabbing his hand, rubbing your hand over the watch. “you didn’t fail sarah, you’ve never failed ellie and you could never fail me.”
“but-”
“no buts. you will never know how proud i am of you and everything you’ve done for us. to open up like this…” you sigh “i just…i’m glad you did.”
he removes his hand from yours, wrapping them both around your waist and pulling you into him. his head rests on your stomach, and your hands find their way into his hair. “home.” he mumbles, and you feel the smile on your chest.
i bet your back can carry more than
just the weight of your button down
one by one they come undone
when we get home
you stand by as you watch joel enter the house. three days, three damn days without him by your side because he was on patrol. you couldn’t blame him, it’s his part in making the community of jackson safe. besides, you knew he’d lose his mind if he had to sit around all day and lack any form of agency. he’d been in this world for too damn long to not find a piece of his mind in protecting others, especially you and ellie.
joel walks over to you, embracing you in a tight hug as he places a small kiss on your forehead. it’s followed by one on your lips, to which he smiles slightly, tipping his forehead so it meets yours. “missed ‘ya so much, darlin’.” his texan drawl makes you laugh.
“missed you too, baby.” you place both hands on either side of joel’s face, pulling back slightly to admire all that is him. his scars, his soul, his heart, everything. “ellie’s missed you too. been waiting on your arrival the entire day.”
joel chuckles, kissing you on the forehead. “i’ll go give her this, then.” he pulls out a book from under his arm, something you completely missed when he entered your house. he holds it up to you, and you read the name. a soft smile graces your lips, and you feel yourself wanting to tear up.
“she’ll love it.” you whisper.
it’s a couple hours later, the three of you having just eaten dinner, and joel and ellie are sat on the couch together. the tv is turned on, but joel is nowhere near paying attention, all of it is on ellie. she reads out the jokes in the joke book he gifted her, he complained about the bad ones, laughed at the good ones, and even shared some of his own.
you find yourself admiring them both, smiling wildly as you watch their dynamic. you knew you had the best relationship with ellie, but nothing could compare to how joel was with her. like a father, he cared and loved her without overstepping ellie’s boundaries.
and that? that’s all you could ever ask for in a man.
i’ve seen you carry family
and all my insecurities
one by one they’ll come undone
when we get home
you stand before joel, blood splattered on your clothes and covered in bruises in visible places. you hated to know how you looked underneath. you sat perched upon the counter in the bathroom as joel runs a cloth under the running tap, dabbing it on your face to remove the dried blood.
it was a patrol gone wrong. you thought you could handle it by yourself, you had done in the past. but when your patrol partner had lured you into a raiders den, it had all gone south from there. they got a fair few hits and wounds onto you before you remembered who you were, and you showed them no mercy.
brown, puppy dog eyes stare down at you, it’s almost comical. a hardened man with the softest expression on his face, all because you were bruised and injured. he sighs, placing the cloth on the side. “need you to take your clothes off, sweetheart. see if there’s any more damage.”
your eyes immediately snap up to meet his, panic arising in your body so much so he saw it in your face. “hey, ‘s okay.” his hand gently cups underneath your jaw, keeping your eyes on his. “ain’t gonna do anything, baby. just need to clean you u-”
“no.” you shake your head feverishly, cutting him off. “no.”
“got to make sure you ain’t hurt anywhere else.” he stares at you, and he looks so concerned and worried that you cave. pulling off your jumper and shirt, stood in your bra and sweatpants, completely exposed.
joel’s eyes trace your body, and you feels his eyes catch the wounds, but the scars that cut across your skin in a variety of places. he stiffens up, hand hesitantly reaching out to gently trace one, much like you had done with his.
he looks up at you when he’s done, stepping closer with his hand on your hip, where the scar his finger had just traced lingered. he tips his forehead to meet yours, both of your eyes closing. “i gotcha, sweet girl. always do.”
he pulls back and grabs the cloth from the sink, running it under water again before he starts to clean the cuts on your body. he traces every scar on your skin, each time making you shudder from the sheer amount of love he dedicates towards you, ensuring your comfort and trust, much like you had done with him.
he’s got you. he always has, always will.
because i’ve seen you
and i know you
and i’m not going anywhere
falling on top of you, joel’s hands travel underneath the hem of your dress, pulling down your panties. you sit up, pulling the white dress over your head, now completely naked and bare in front of the man you love.
joel tips your head up so you look at him, admiring your body as you sit naked and bare. he starts to take off his own clothes, pulling you close to him so he hovers of you. he kisses you lips passionately, your arms winding round his neck as you pull him in closer.
he chuckles as you moan when he bites your lip, pulling away to kiss down your neck, your chest, all the way down until he looks up at you, asking for permission.
you nod, and let him ravish you.
because i’ve seen you
and i know you
and i’m not going anywhere
because i’ve seen you
and i know you
and i’m not going anywhere
because i’ve seen you
and i know you
and i’m not going anywhere.
a/n: fun fact, this was gonna end in tlou2 with joel and reader being murdered together but i said no <3

Sportacus is a daddy.
Tumblr media
I know everyone agreed.
Tumblr media
A lil speedpaint
It was fun drawing him
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I remember I didn’t really like LazyTown when I was a kid, because of the puppets and also for some reason Stephanie used to annoy me?? maybe I envied her but I remember I couldn’t stand her song at the end of almost every episode.
I also used to be a dumbass who didn’t understand the concept of age difference, so I thought Stephanie and Sporty were a couple 💀
To me it worked like this: she’s pink, he’s blue — these colors look good together! Now I understand that they have a great father-and-daughter relationship! But I know that many ppl used to think the same thing as kids.
All I remember, besides that thing, is that I thought Sportadork’s stunts were really cool and I wanted to eat Robbie’s cake (the pastry lmao). And I used to not get it at all who was Stephanie to others, why was her “uncle” a PUPPET.
And so I decided to rewatch the show but without the Russian dubbing and I was thrown aback by Sporty’s high-pitched voice and his äćčêñt! I didn’t know the show was made in Iceland.
Sportaflop’s Russian dub voice was so confident and a bit lower, so it fitted him a lot! But y’know, the “søméöñė’s íń twöūbłê🥺” is unbeatably cute ahahah

Tim: Jason
Jason: Mmm?*Sips Tea*
Tim:—Damian put laxatives in your tea this morning for using his favorite China cup.
Jason: *Sips tea all over the floor*
———
Batman at the Watchtower giving a oral debate discussion.
Flash: Bats what’s in your cape?
Batman: What are talking about? *Large lump in his cape on full display.*
Green Lantern (Hal): The massive lump in your cape!
*Cue a 6’2 over 200 lbs of muscle in a red helmet with two large pistols strapped to his thighs.*
Red Hood: Alfred wanted to know if you wanted Herb Crusted Salmon or Chicken Fingers for dinner?
Batman: Chicken tenders will do.
Red Hood turns to the League and waves: Hi Diana
Wonder Woman (warmly): Hello child.
Red Hood leaves, and Batman returns to his conversation.
Hal: *Internally about to combust*

Wonder Woman:Like Hera you didn’t, we got here as soon as we could.
Dick drops down from the ceiling.
Dick: I summoned you both here.
All: What for?
Alfred arrives with a smug look on his face: Master Dick thought it would be wise for you both to spend the day with Master Bruce he had been quite grumpy as of late.
Bruce: have not.
Dick: Has too.
Clark (chuckling): If you missed us you could have just called.
Bruce(grumpily): I did not.
Diana holding her Lasso in hand: Shall we test that theory?
Alfred clearing his throat:I have taken the liberty of preparing tea along with finger sandwiches and pastries in the sunroom if you both would follow me.
Bruce turns to Dick blankly: why would you do that.
Dick grinning evily: Payback for the Penguin case.
Bruce:That was two months ago.
Dick: I never forget B, remember that. Save a sandwich for me Alfred!
Bruce staring blankly into the cave before getting up and following: I have raised a monster.

Next generation creek kids (ft. 2022 art of MJ, Nancy, &Sonya) Introducing The Flower Scouts: Troop Honeysuckle & The Alvarado kids Jaime & Laura 🌼🌼I’ll write a little about them below:
Troop Honeysuckle:
Troop HS are a girl scout group that fill in the role for the scouts in the future. Just like their predecessors their main goal is to protect the wildlife & kids of the creek (Though in a less assertive way compared to he original). They all follow under their scout master Shawn and when he isn’t present, Stevie fills in the role as troop leader.
Stevie: Stephanie “Stevie” is the eldest of the trio (12). She joined the scouts at the age of 7 both out of curiosity & to help her get more settled in the states. Stevie speaks 3 languages: Spanish, English, & American Sign Language. She’s an openminded girl who’s happy to learn new things.
Penelope: Penelope (10) is levelheaded chilled out kid. She carries with her all sorts of helpful & useful things in her backpack. Band-Aids, hand sanitizer, rope, snacks, you name it she has it!! Penelope’s reason for joining the scouts was cuz of her mom hoping it’ll help her focus more. Penelope often gets lost in the clouds and completely zones out on everything around her. So it may take a couple hollers to ground her back to earth.
Regina: Regina (8) is the daughter of Big Red & Boris. Regina wanted to join the scouts so she could be just like her dad. Reggie’s more of the muscle/crowd controller of the group, with her loud voice & stronger than average 8 yrs strength, she can really clear an area. Under that tough shell though she’s a real sweetheart! She knows more about the animal wildlife than the others.
 The Alvarado Kids:
Jamie: Jamie “Two Punches” (9) is the son of Kelsey & Stacks. This little dude loves boxing with the passion! You’ll rarely ever see him without his red gloves. He spends his time at the creek practicing throwing swings at trees. Jamie’s called “Two Punches” cause he throws one punch as a warning & then a second to put down/knock out his opponent (inside & outside the ring if anyone tries it). He’s a good sportsman and would never fight outside of self defense. Jamie also has a habit of calling everyone “Coach”, including his moms.
Laura: Laura (10) is the daughter of Kelsey & Stacks. She’s a selective mute who doesn’t say more than a few hums. Unlike her brother she spends most of her times in the library with her mama (Stacks) instead of exploring the creek. When she does explore the creek she often brings her pet cockatoo, Cantaloupe, with her. Laura likes to write down what she’s seen or done at the creek. Her moms often encourages her to share her writing in a live journal but she’s too shy to want to do that just yet.
That’s all I have for these kids!! Sorry I didn’t draw more outside of them just standing there 💦 I love making silly character designs for this show & thinking of a future of these characters 💖💖 Thanks for reading!! 💗💗

On Theft in Art
Tumblr media
First: thank you to the anon here and the other many people who brought this to my attention! I know you did it out of support of me and I love you for it.
I was ready to keep it private as I didn’t want anything negative to come up and be associated with my art. But as I was asked across different platforms concerning the art in question I realized it really bummed me out. I’m here to have a good time in the fandom and create with you all. We have a good thing here in the community and I didn’t want any smoke with another artist - a mutual even.
So to help me feel a little better about it I want to turn this into an opportunity to teach others on the differences between Reference, Inspiration, Reinterpretation, and Theft
Reference: (usually) a visual source of information in order to better understand something. Example here is of my reference board and the art I am currently working on.
Tumblr media
My favorite example of a professional using reference photos is by Hirohiko Araki (creator and artist of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure), who uses fashion editorials and photoshoots ALL the time it’s awesome - tysm @yumiaiyuma for showing me this goldmine
Tumblr media
Study and Inspiration: here is a great example from the wonderful Stephanie Pepper. Notice the caption stating these are studies, the movie it is from, and I will even go on to say that this artist is influenced or inspired by the prolific works of J. C. Leyendecker (but what’s key is that Stephanie Pepper has developed and practiced to the point of deviating from his work and become a style of art completely her own - and she’s so recognizable in my opinion!)
Tumblr media
Personal Example for Inspiration:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
An Example of Reinterpretation: note - Both these classical artists whose works are being recycled are dead and no longer missing out on potential work and income. Where stealing ideas and art from current artists hurts them financially and mentally and emotionally. Howl as The Fallen Angel by _mimimaru on Instagram is an interpretation of a 1847 painting by Alexandre Cabanel and is now considered public domain // the Mickey Mouse self portrait was by Charles Boyer and is a parody of the famous illustration by Norman Rockwell and was commissioned by Walt Disney, himself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now here’s the part that is concerning to several people, myself included.
Recently, an artist found the reference I used, and decided to draw Andromeda, Bellatrix, Narcissa, and Regulus staring at Sirius getting supposedly punished by Walburga Black off screen.
Tumblr media
Let’s be clear: this isn’t a matter of tracing or claiming my image as their own. I do not mind at all if myself and another artist end up using the same reference. It happens all the time. Referencing and studying is not stealing. Reinterpretation is great for meme art challenges and paying respect to old classics. Even being inspired and doing one’s own version of another artist’s idea is totally cool, especially if you tag and/or shoutout the artist that inspired you.
I genuinely love and appreciate everyone who has brought this to my attention and who has been supportive and defensive of me with this. That reaction means more to me than anything else in this whole ordeal, if I’m being honest. So thank you all so much, with all my heart.
In closing: Do I hope this is all one gigantic coincidence? Absolutely. It’s one of those very uncool things that hurts my heart as an artist. I just want everyone to enjoy art and inspire each other so we can all grow. I do not want any malice to come from this either. I just wanted to inform everyone that I am aware of this, and give some of my thoughts on it. I also wanted to use this as a way to educate everyone on artistic process and why these things might happen sometimes.
Edit: me and the artist have chatted and we see it as a silly coincidence ♡ and honestly I'm happy and so relieved with that. But I think a lot of this info is still good to be mindful of in a creative community where we circulate ideas and content regularly.

sorry if you get a ton of notifs bc i just found your account and have been scrolling through most of it!! but 1. THE REVERSE ROBINS JAYTIM?? you somehow drew my favorite trope and i didn’t even know it was my favorite bc i’ve only really seen it in a couple c-novels before. so thank you for that
2. the reverse robins damitim!! (i’m sensing a theme here, with me and reverse robin aus). would just love to hear more about them in that verse if you feel up to it!
i don't mind the notifications, click away!
the 年下 nianxia trope in cnovels yess that was exactly what i had in mind while drawing reverse robins jaytim, you get it! it's about the little kid growing up to be sooo unbearably hot it sends everyone into a panic :)
as for damitim! i think the collective dynamic of the bats would be wildly different if damian came first... he'd be bruce levels of stoic but with a certain air of responsibility about him, an eldest child type of no-nonsense attitude, while if tim came second he'd maintain his like. general insanity and overcompensation and stalker habits etc etc. he and damian absolutely hate each other's guts at first, but out on the field they'd probably work together extremely well, which makes both of them mad LMAO
i imagine the shift happens when damian gets caught in an explosion at some point and wakes up in the cave to tim swearing and scowling at him like "i dug through the rubble for THREE HOURS, if it weren't for batgirl i would've killed you when i finally found you," except the whole time he's also holding an ice pack to damian's temple and his hands are all bandaged up. and damian just stares at them and is kind of like, "huh". later stephanie says "did tim tell you he winched a solid block of concrete off of you? he was crying because he thought he was too late" and yk, damian has an oh moment. after that he starts being more tolerant of tim's general nagging. a year later bruce picks up 13 year old jason from off the streets and jason takes to tim like a duck to water and damian starts lowkey beefing with him about it because he's embarrassing like that.
that's about as far as my brainrot has gotten... no idea who tim is interested in but he's like, probably 70% aware of the ridiculous love triangle he's been caught in.
(btw in this au damian is 3 yrs older than tim who's 5 yrs older than jason. so by the 2nd picture of the reverse robins jaytim art, dami is 27, tim is 24, and jay is 19. dami is batman at this point! bruce is retired and probably staying in metropolis every other week if you catch my drift)

Here are the black batsis head cannons
warnings: crack, Love lots of it, shitty parents, sibling bonds, things that only make sense to black people, so sad racism, your a vigal i’m this
This is one of the things you guys voted so here you
Tumblr media
So for the sake of the plot you are very very african like you have the accent and everything (it can be whatever you imagination chooses light heavy whatever ) bruce had known you through a drug deal he had busted your father he's was selling drugs when bruce chases him all the way to your apartment your home he had found your mother overdosed your father now where to be found and you just sleeping in the room
You waking up when you feel a certain caped crusader watching you in your sleep
When gordon and the police came they took your mother to the hospital she didn't make it your father they caught him at the bar and he is going to prison for the rest of his life
Gordon knows he has a thing for kids that need a home
You had gone home with im the next day and had been apart of the batfam ever since
You had been adopted right after Jason so that made you the first girl (before he died) Dick was 17 Jason was 12 you were 11
You and dick weren’t that close because of the age gap but he made it work he visited the manor more for you and Jason like going on missions together and dropping you off to school you made fun of his red head fetish a lot tho
you and Jason were the closet because of your age but you guys shared some of the same interest reading is the most common one. something you guys do a lot is trade books you will read his stuff and he’ll read your it’s like a little book club
now you and tim were very rough at first of course you were mourning jason’s death and tim comes along it was alot, for you but you loved him no matter what
Damian….when you guys met he thought you were like everyone else unimpressive and unimportant but you treated him the same way it only lasted for a week when he saw you in the garden drawing the scenery a way to relax but you guys relate to each other the most because your both not white it’s connects you guys more
Stephanie and you were close asf she was always in love with who you are and your confidence you guys would always have girl days with cass ofc she would do you make-up a lot she wants to experiment because the boys are all the same and Damian won’t let her (unless you ask him)
now you and cass when she came to the manor she didn’t talk much and your were just fine neither that you were her voice in situations and when she started to talk you were so proud of her you always helped her no matter what
NOW U AND DUKE WERE LOCKED INN you guys are the only African-american people in the house so y’all just did things that made sense to you guys like taking your shoes off in the house, WASHING the chicken before you season it but anyways whenever the family said some where people things y’all gave each other the “I know he didn’t just say/do that” the family doesn’t understand for example one time it was your birthday your 21st birthday you had 2 of the biggest and i mean biggest party possible the first one was for bruce’s friends and all the fake bitches that were only there for money and show themselves off
the second party was for your friends and siblings like the justice leagues kids and every true friend you’ve grown to love over the years after cleaning the party you guys would hear a noise from down the hall jason and his bright mine said let’s go check it out before the rest of the fam could find you two y’all had already bolted sure you were vigilantes but you were not doing no scary shit tonight
Alfred he loved you with all his heart dont tell the others but your his favorite he teaches you how to cook his food and you can do it perfect your the only one who hasn’t and ever will get a ban from the kitchen
Bruce and you weren’t always the nicest to each other but you love each other to death your just like him a workaholic and doesn’t take brakes unless there needs to be sometimes not even Alfred can pull you away but bruce comes and carry’s you like the little girl he wish you still were you TRY and i mean TRY to teach him how to cook it’s terrible tho
Selina was like your mother too you she thought you how to be strong like nothing else you guys went on a few heist together she always listens to you when no one else does she’s always there for you
One thing that the batfam will do for any and all is protect one another from racism, villains anything
you also got flirted with a lot by wally, roy, anything that could lay there eyes on you and they all hated it

So I started writing that Max and Steph roleswap AU and I wanted to post this little snippet I have so far and hear everyone’s thoughts because I’m not 100% happy with it yet…idk i feel like it might be too exposition heavy if that makes sense?? Like the backstory is important but idk I feel like I just kind of dumped it and maybe could weave it throughout the story better?? Lmk if you have any thoughts :)
Also Max and Richie’s relationship is going to be platonic in this (bc once again I’m weak for aroace Richie and the power of friendship being treated with the same narrative weight as romantic relationships).
Finally shoutout to tumblr user @idk-imrambling-idk who said in the tags of the original post that Max and Steph give sibling vibes in this au because I was like you know what, I love that, yes they do!! And it really inspired their dynamic and relationship in this
Here it is :)
Stephanie learned what it meant to be powerless at the ripe old age of nine. She sat next to her father in the crowd, watching the blindingly bright spotlight shine down upon her mother and beaming with pride as she was crowned Honey Queen. The applause was uproarious, every last townsperson’s gaze fixed solely on her. She’d always known her mom was the sweetest woman in Hatchetfield, but now it was official. Now she had the beautiful, ornate crown upon her head to prove it. As her mother was whisked away to what she assumed was some sort of super special, secret ceremony, her father insisted over her protests that no, they couldn’t go with her, she needed to go home and get to bed. It was a school night, after all, and she’d see her mother soon enough. She didn’t. Her mother never came home that night and with each passing day, Stephanie’s hope that she ever would dwindled even further.
Every woman who’s ever won that pageant has left Hatchetfield and never looked back, but back then, she didn’t know that. She just knew that one day, her mom was there to fawn over her drawings and point out all the little details she liked and put her spelling test up on the fridge and say how proud she was that Steph worked so hard and got more words right than last time and the next day, she wasn’t and there was nothing Stephanie could do about it. She wondered what she did wrong that her mom was so eager to get away from her. To this day, Stephanie doesn’t know where she ended up. She went through a brief phase where she spent hours a day fervently researching online and following every crumb of information she could find, desperate for any answers, but the very few flimsy leads she was able to find turned out to be dead ends. Not long after her twelfth birthday, Solomon told her she really ought to stop digging, because she wasn’t going to find the answers she was looking for and if she did, she wouldn’t be able to handle them. She rolled her eyes at his usual weird, cryptic nonsense, but for once, she didn’t argue with him. She never did figure out how he knew what she was doing. She only did her sleuthing when she was home alone and always made sure to use incognito mode.
As she got older, the list of things she had to do and wasn’t allowed to do and people she couldn’t hang out with grew exponentially. Everything always came back to the next election and how her behavior might reflect on her father. There was to be no hanging out with the smoke club kids, because he didn’t want the public thinking she was some kind of drug fiend (as if they were doing actual drugs. They were seventh graders. They may have upgraded to the real stuff now, but back then, Stephanie’s confident their vices of choice were, in fact, cloves and oregano, whether or not they were aware of it). If there was an option for honors or AP in a given subject, she had to take it, regardless of her interest or aptitude. He didn’t want her looking like some kind of slacker. Ironically, she credits that with how she became one. It was embarrassing trying so hard, only to still struggle to understand the material and receive abysmal grades in return, but it was equally embarrassing to admit to this and ask for help, so she figured the easiest route would be to stop trying. She made sure to keep her grades just barely high enough to keep her dad off of her case, but refused to do anything more. These days, she doesn’t have to sweat it. If she’s really in a pinch, she can just threaten some nerd into doing her homework for her.
As if that weren’t bad enough, the summer before Freshman year, one Greg Jägerman followed in his wife’s footsteps and vanished without a trace. That in itself was nothing out of the ordinary, but it did raise the question of what to do with the son he left behind. Solomon wasn’t doing so hot in the polls and Miss Tessburger decided that taking in the guy’s now-orphaned kid would make Solomon look kind and charitable, two of the last descriptors most voters would apply to him. Of course, nobody asked Steph her opinion. She was just stuck with this annoying pseudo-adopted brother one day and expected to be cool with it. Well, more accurately, nobody cared whether she was cool with it or not. The worst part was that he totally bought into this stupid fake family thing. He still won’t stop calling her sis.
What really infuriates her is that he gets the freedom she’s long been denied. Solomon truly couldn't care less what he does as long as he stays out of major trouble, doesn’t completely flunk his classes and shows up for all the public appearances and family photo ops. To this day, he still calls Solomon Dad as if he has any right to, as if Solomon sees him as anything more than an unfortunate consequence of a bold PR stunt, as if he’s had to put up with a fraction of what Stephanie’s endured from him. Solomon is not his dad and he is not a Lauter, no matter how many people mistakenly call him that. Solomon even praised him once. He came home from his latest lacrosse match and proudly said that they’d creamed Sycamore or whoever. Solomon, nose-deep in the latest poll and survey results Miss Tessburger had sent him, absently said, “that’s nice, son,” and waved him off. Sure, it was insincere. Sure, it was dismissive. But it was still far more than Stephanie had gotten since she was literally nine years old and more than she’s gotten since. It made her blood boil. She’d been jumping through hoops like some kind of goddamn show dog for her father for years and never got so much as one half-hearted compliment. It was just expected of her.
Still, she continued to jump through those hoops. It wasn’t like she had much of a choice and at this point, it was all she really knew, anyway. Unsurprisingly, Solomon still demanded more and just before she went into high school, he decided she was going to do sports. If there’s one defining trait that all of his constituents in town share, it’s their bizarre obsession with high school football, so this was a surefire way to impress them.
“Why do I have to?” she’d protested “Max already plays volleyball and lacrosse, doesn’t that satisfy the sports kid requirement?”
“Stephanie, I’d like to have an intelligent conversation with you. In other words, shut up. You know as well as I do that nobody cares about either of those sports. Clivesdale doesn’t even have a lacrosse or volleyball team and beating them is all these simple-minded hicks seem to care about. If you refuse to bring up your mediocre grades or put your time into any useful extracurriculars or bettering yourself in any way, the least you can do is join the cheer squad. How hard can it be to jump around and do some silly little chants?”
Max was there, too. Of course he was. On the increasingly rare occasions where Solomon was actually home, he was sure to be right there at his side, telling him about his day as if he fucking cared. Calling him Dad as if he had any fucking right to. She didn’t miss the way his face fell ever so slightly when Solomon said that nobody cared about his stupid sports and she couldn’t help but feel smug about it.
“Ha, yeah,” she said with a smirk “volleyball and lacrosse are dumb.”
The brief satisfaction was quickly overshadowed by a more pressing matter. Hell no, she was not going to join cheer. Pep, enthusiasm and silly dance routines aren’t really her style. She wasn’t sure she could do it if she wanted to and she really, really didn’t.
“Well, figure it out,” Solomon told her, looking at her with the usual disdain “it’s either that or football.” He may have said it mockingly, but she decided to take it as a challenge. She breached her own “no putting in more effort than necessary” policy and spent hours a day on the empty football field practicing plays. She’d usually drag Max along with her if he didn’t have practice for whichever one of his unimportant non-sports was in season.
“Hey,” he said during one of these practice sessions as he threw an admittedly decent spiral, his signature dumb, goofy grin on his face “I’ve been thinking about trying out, too. It might be kinda fun to be on the team together.”
She scowled. “No,” was her only response “just shut up and throw the ball, okay?” This was going to be her thing, damnit. He wasn’t going to invade it like he did everything else in her life. He did as she asked and never brought it up again.
She spent hours more at the gym, doing hard cardio until she was as sweat-soaked as that annoying weeb kid she saw around school sometimes and pushing herself to her limits strength training. It all paid off when the day of tryouts arrived and she blew everyone away with her athletic prowess, earning the position of star quarterback. That alone would have been great publicity and the fact that she was a freshman and the first girl ever to make the team in any position were the cherry on top. It spoke volumes that Solomon didn’t have anything negative to say, although he didn’t offer any praise, either.
If nobody could stand up to her before, they really couldn’t now. She wasn’t just the mayor’s daughter anymore. She was the star football player and with every victory she helped them score, especially against Clivesdale, the teachers and the principal became less and less likely to discipline her if anyone complained of her so-called bullying. It wasn’t as if they could do much before, but now they didn’t even care to try. With that, her iron grip over the school was secured and she’s thoroughly enjoyed it ever since. She still can’t do anything about her mom walking away or her dad treating her like some kind of accessory whose only use is to make him look good to potential voters or her stupid not-brother encroaching on her life and taking everything that’s rightfully hers, but she can maintain the delicate balance that is the high school hierarchy she’s created and bring order to Hatchetfield High. Really, she’s doing them all a favor. They don’t know what’s good for them and without her, it would descend into chaos.
Max slides into his seat in AP Calc with seconds to spare before the bell rings. He’s slammed two of those vile tasting sugar free energy drinks and he’s praying they’ll kick in soon.
“Alright, we’re going to have a pop quiz today. Hope you’ve been hitting the books, Mr. Lauter,” Miss Mulberry says. He doesn’t bother correcting her. Maybe if he could wear his letterman that has “Jägerman” embroidered on it, people wouldn’t make that mistake so often, but he’s not allowed to. The letterman jacket is Steph’s signature look. Not even Kyle and Jason get to wear theirs unless it’s a game day and they’re her closest friends. Max doesn’t even get that privilege, so he settled for a navy blue flannel with a tiny nighthawk patch poorly sewn into the pocket and his letterman hangs untouched in his closet. Sometimes, he doesn’t mind being called Max Lauter, even if it sounds a little off. Sometimes, he wants to believe that’s what he is. Other times, he wishes people would get it right. That’s the least of his worries right now, though. His chest feels so, so tight and a wave of nausea overtakes him and makes him wonder if ingesting so much caffeine and chemicals was a wise idea. He’s screwed. He can barely pass a test in this class when he has time to prepare and sacrifices several nights’ worth of sleep to study. He shouldn’t even be here. He knows he’s kind of dumb. Stephanie gleefully reminds him on a regular basis. Solomon doesn’t vocalize it, but sometimes Max will say something to him and he’ll just give him this look as if he’s just uttered the stupidest, most incomprehensible words ever spoken, then shake his head and go back to ignoring him. He’s always had a lot of trouble in most subjects, but math is by far the worst. Realistically, remedial algebra would be more his speed, but it wouldn’t be very becoming of a sort-of Lauter. Solomon took him in when he had nowhere else to go. He’s been a lot nicer to him than his own father ever was. He figured the least he could do is make him proud, but so far, that plan has backfired tremendously. Nobody’s going to be impressed with the D plus that he’s clinging to for dear life and can still feel slipping through his grasp.
He glances to his left and sees his neighbor calmly reach into his backpack and pull out his pen and calculator. The sheen of sweat on his forehead would suggest that he’s almost as nervous as Max is, but his demeanor radiates confidence and excitement. Max wonders why that guy wears so many layers if he’s always so sweaty. They’ve been in classes together since the first grade, but they’ve hardly spoken two words to each other. Max has, however, watched his hand eagerly shoot up whenever Miss Mulberry asks a question. He has watched him answer every equation with ease, solving them without fail, even when it all looks like gibberish to Max. If anyone can help Max out of this jam, it’s this guy. He has no real reason to, but Max supposes it can’t hurt to ask. What’s the worst that could happen?
“Hey,” he whispers “Shitlips, right?” He immediately winces. Fuck, he did not mean to say that. That’s how Steph and her friends always refer to him and he let it slip without thinking. Richie turns to glare at Max, clearly not amused.
“Sorry,” he says sheepishly “I meant Lipschitz. Richie Lipschitz, right?”
“Yeah,” he says, still a little irritated “what is it? We’re about to take a test.”
“It’s just that, uh, we’ve been in school together for, like, ages and I just realized I’ve never introduced myself. I’m Max.”
“Yeah, I know, Max Jägerman. The mayor’s kid. Stephanie Lauter’s brother.”
“She doesn’t like me reminding people, but yeah,” Max replies with a self-deprecating chuckle “I feel kinda bad now. I called you Shitlips and you got my name right on the first try. A lot of people think it’s Lauter.”
This gets Richie to crack a faint smile. “Yeah, I always remembered it because it sounds like Eren Yeager.”
“So, you ready for this test?” says Max with a sheepish grin “‘Cause I’m really, really not. Like, nothing in this class makes even a little bit of sense to me. I’m one hundred percent going to fail. Unless you help a bro out.”
“Oh, we’re bros now?” Richie says with a raised eyebrow.
“Sure,” Max says “we’re Nighthawks, right? We gotta stick together.”
“But won’t we get in trouble?”
“Not if we don’t get caught,” Max says “rules were made to be broken.”
“Fine,” says Richie “I’m willing to tilt my paper slightly so you can see it better. Try to keep up, though, I’m not waiting to turn in my test so you can finish copying. That’ll look suspicious.” That much is true. Richie’s always the first person to turn in his test in this class, usually by a substantial amount of time. “And don’t be super obvious about it,” he adds.
“Really?” Max says, his face lighting up in a way that he rarely allows it to “thanks, dude, I owe you one!”

Bruce woke up with a blade to his throat. “Jason—.”
“How’d you know it was me?” Jason whispered. He had a man’s voice, an angry man’s voice, but Bruce knew better.
“Because you’re scared,” Bruce whispered as he opened his eyes. They exchanged glances in the dark.
“You’re the one with a knife to your throat, and I’m the one who’s scared?” Jason asked.
“If you were mad, you would’ve gone for my eyes,” Bruce answered. Jason tightened the blade against Bruce’s neck, allowing the serrated edge to penetrate the skin. “Sit down, and let’s talk. It’s been a while… I missed you.”
Jason shook his head. “No, it’s a trick,” Jason whispered. Bruce touched Jason’s wrist gently.
“You don’t think I love you… And that hurts, doesn’t it?” Bruce asked. Jason pressed the blade further into Bruce’s flesh, drawing blood. Bruce didn’t flinch.
“Do you think this is funny?” Jason asked. Tears forced their way down Jason’s cheeks as he raised the knife above his head. Bruce let go of Jason’s wrist and stared into his eyes. They were a child’s eyes. Jason let out a sob involuntarily as the tears flooded down his face. “Fight back!” Jason screamed. Bruce didn’t move. Blood trickled down his neck as he watched Jason fight within himself.
“I wasn’t the same without you… If this is what it takes to prove I love you, then so be it, Jason. I’d do almost anything for you,” Bruce whispered. Jason let out a sickened scream like a wounded animal as he plunged the knife into Bruce’s shoulder.
“We should’ve died together! I passed away without ever knowing how you felt! If you loved me, you would’ve died with me!” Jason screamed. “Or you would’ve killed him!”
“I couldn’t kill Jo—. Him… because it would’ve made your death cheap. I don’t know how to fix it if I can outside of that, but part of me knew that I’d never be able to remember you as you were if I made it about him. I wanted to kill him… Hell, I still want to kill him for what he did to you, but I never would’ve grieved you properly. You deserved that at least—.”
“You didn’t grieve me. You replaced me. I was nothing more than another sidekick to you. You never cared about any of us… You didn’t care about me,” Jason spat. The words tasted sour to Bruce as he considered Jason’s words. Bruce didn’t want to fight. That was the mistake Bruce made back then. He never should’ve fought Jason.
“I love Tim and Dick… But you were special. I don’t think any two people were more made for each other as father and son as we were. Jason, I couldn’t love the same after you. I couldn’t breathe the same… Batman will never feel the same. I put on the cape and cowl, and I’m constantly haunted by the little boy I killed.
“I know you’re scared, but I’m here. It’s not too late to let me help you. We can fix this—.”
Jason pulled the blade from Bruce’s shoulder and backed away. “You didn’t want me anymore! You were gonna let me go with her! She was a stranger, and you were fully prepared to let me go with her… Like I didn’t mean anything to you,” Jason cried as he sank to the ground in a corner of the room. Bruce held his bleeding shoulder as he sat up and turned the light on.
“I thought it would keep you safe. I didn’t want you to leave, but I—. I was terrified about what would happen if you stayed with me… It’s all my fault,” Bruce admitted. Jason hid his face in his hands.
“I was scared, Bruce… Everything was falling apart, and I just—. I wanted something to hold onto,” Jason wept, “You weren’t there for me.”
“You’re right. I was too passive. When I saw you hurting, I backed away. I should’ve been stable. That’s all you needed,” Bruce replied as he approached Jason. “You loved all your parents, and we all failed you. Didn’t we? You loved Willis. I know you did… But he didn’t know how to let you be gentle. You loved Catherine, but drugs took her away from you… You loved Sheila, and she betrayed you… And you loved me, and I failed you in every way imaginable. I’m sorry.” Jason dropped the knife and looked up. Bruce nodded.
“I hate you so much,” Jason cried. Bruce nodded as he opened his arms. Jason struck Bruce across the face. “I hate you. I hate you. I hate you.” Jason fought Bruce’s embrace until he realized Bruce wasn’t giving up. “I loved you, Bruce.”
“I love you too, Jason,” Bruce whispered, “Jason… You’re gonna be alright. I’m not gonna let go. I’m right here. Nothing else matters, I promise.”
Jason wept on Bruce’s uninjured shoulder. “I’m so tired,” Jason mumbled.
“I know…” Bruce held Jason until he fell asleep, and he tucked Jason into his bed. While Jason slept, Bruce patched himself up and sat by Jason’s bedside, pushing his hair back. “It’ll be alright. This wasn’t your fault. You’re gonna be okay,” Bruce whispered. Jason breathed heavily in his sleep as if he hadn’t slept in days. His chest heaved up and down quickly, and Bruce gave Jason’s scalp a gentle scratch. “You’re safe now. Don’t worry about anything. I’ve got you now.”
*
Bruce slept in the chair and awakened as Jason draped a blanket over the older man. Bruce looked up and smiled. “How’s your inner child?” Bruce smiled.
“You let me stab you in the shoulder,” Jason mumbled as he sat on Bruce’s bed crosslegged.
“I thought you were aiming for my throat,” Bruce whispered, “And you missed everything important.”
“I wasn’t aiming for anything important… I was thinking…” Jason chuckled, but his smile quickly faded. “You know about what happened when I was ten years old… What do you have to say about it?” Jason asked.
“Are you a baptized Catholic?” Bruce questioned. Jason smiled and nodded. “And we didn’t talk about why… Why’d you do it?”
“Things were awful at home. Mom and Dad were fighting all the time, and—. And I was tired of being the adult,” Jason replied, “I was only ever a kid when I was with you.”
“I’m glad I did one thing right,” Bruce grinned, “Oh, the haircut you had when you were eight… I liked it.”
“Funny,” Jason replied, “I learned a lot from this.”
“You remember all of it?” Bruce questioned. Jason nodded.
“Don’t tell anyone that I remember, okay? Except for Stephanie… Tell her I said she was one of the best moms I ever had,” Jason smiled.
“You’re the best thing that ever happened to me… And I’m grateful for the time I spent with you these past few weeks,” Bruce confessed, “But next time, can we do family therapy instead?” Jason laughed.
“I’ll never let you off that easy,” Jason whispered. The two men sat in the dark together, watching the sunrise outside Bruce’s bedroom window. “I don’t know how to move forward, Bruce.”
“That’s okay. We’ve got all the time in the world to figure it out,” Bruce whispered.

Title from It’s Not The Same Anymore - Rex Orange County
Tumblr media
Duke hadn’t really thought anything of the fuzziness that muddled his thoughts.
He had explained it to his friends at his old school before, most of them agreeing that their heads felt a bit clogged sometimes, like thoughts weren’t fully processing, everything felt floaty like their heads were in clouds. They had said it was dissociation, pulling up the definition and symptoms on Google to show Duke.
The reassurance and agreements relieved Duke’s worries, he wasn’t as alone as he thought!
To an extent..
Nobody talked about how they felt like words were harder when exams came around the corner. How their brains fogged over, their only interest being to rewatch their favorite show as a kid for the hundredth time when they got sick. How they craved to be hugged, held in someone’s warm arms and gently rocking them when their bodies ached from exhaustion.
So he stayed quiet and just kept nodding along to his friend’s comments, going with the assumption that he was just dissociating. The symptoms and experience matched his pretty well, nearly perfectly— aside from his unspoken aspects, so why wouldn’t he assume?
After the conversation at school, he didn’t give a second thought when it kept happening, allowing himself to take a step back and take a deep breath from whatever situation was causing the dissociation, only to continue his day with a bit of blurred edges to his brain and vision.
That was until he was sitting in the living area, only a few months into living at Wayne Manor when he felt the cloudiness coming on, his hands slowly losing their firm hold on the Nintendo Switch joy-con, twisting and turning his wrists to move Luigi on the rainbow road track.
He squinted his eyes, brows knitting together as he tried to remain focused onto the screen, the 2nd place marker in the corner of his screen nagging at him as Tim muttered out curses from where he sat on the floor. Why would he be dissociating right now? He’s happy. It wasn’t that it was a rare emotion, especially in more recent times, but he’s genuinely enjoying himself. He’s enjoying his time with his family right now,— minus Bruce who holed himself up in the cave with work. Again.— all of his siblings lounging around the couch, chairs and floor as he and Tim went 1v1 at mario kart.
Before he realizes it, the large TV screen shows their respective ending placements, Tim in 1st and Duke in 6th. Tim’s cheering and accepting a round of applause from Cass, Steph and Jason, Damian doesn’t glance up from his book, and Dick– Dick was staring at him with that look. The older brother look, the others deemed it as. The one he gives when he’s concerned but doesn’t want to bring it up vocally, because he knows it’ll draw attention from the others. Duke gives him a smile of reassurance, and if you ask Duke, that smile was not shaky, and was very real. Dick squints his eyes, clearly not falling for Duke’s attempt to comfort the older’s worries, but leaves it alone as he turns his attention to Cass, who curls up around his arm. Duke hands his controller to Stephanie who had called dibs on doing a match against Tim, the self-proclaimed Mario Kart champion of the house.
With a silent sigh of relief, he sinks into the couch, blinking the fuzz away from his thoughts and burying himself deeper into his hoodie. He knew Dick— or any of them, really,— wouldn’t be upset with him for dissociating. He knows most of them deal with it themselves, but Duke wasn’t worried about their reaction, rather more upset with himself than anything. He was having fun! Why was something that was supposed to be caused by a negative source happening now?
He decided to watch the current round between Steph and Tim take place on the screen, attempting to take his mind off of his thoughts, until he noticed the lack of a person– well, two people. Cass and Dick were gone.
Huh.
“Dick took Cass up to her room. Slipped.” Jason informs a clearly puzzled Duke from where he lays across the chair with his arms folded over his chest, going back to watching the game, as if his words made absolute and perfect sense to Duke.
By the lack of silence and movement, Jason looks over to see Duke’s visible confusion intensified. Jason furrows his brows with his lips downturning in a way that makes Duke squirm in his seat. “Nobody told you?” The older says like he’s supposed to know something, and suddenly it feels like all eyes are on him, mostly because they are, as much as they try to play off their concerning glances. (Aside from Tim who’s sticking his tongue out in concentration as he knocks Steph out of first place with a red shell.)
Duke’s lips form a thin line, his hands fidgeting with the strings of his hoodie as he shakes his head ‘no’, to which Jason’s frown deepens. “Cass, she age regresses. Any idea what that is?” and Duke feels like he knows absolutely nothing in the world anymore by their expressions, shaking his head again with much more hesitance.
“Okay-” Jason says with a sigh, running a hand through his hair, looking up to the ceiling as he thinks through his words. “It’s where your brain decides to regress back to a younger age, it’s a coping mechanism. She’s described it as just like a.. fuzzy-floaty feeling when she gets an intense emotion, though it doesn't have to be negative for it to happen, like just now. She was just really happy and so she st-”
“There’s a word for it?” Duke says as he stares at Jason, not realizing he cut the older off mid-sentence until it was too late, his mouth snapping shut with a nervous frown.
The room turns into a deafening silence, the game on the TV now on pause as Steph and Tim glance between the two– even Damian is (not so subtly) looking up at Duke’s comment.
“I- Yeah? Duke are you-” “No!” Duke rushes out, his face flushing as he cuts off Jason once again. “Sorry- I just,” he starts, “The- The head fuzzy stuff, feeling like you’re a kid. It’s.. It’s a thing?”
Everyone, besides Damian who pretends like he wasn’t even listening in the first place, nods. A mixture of confusion, concern and comfort on their faces, which just makes Duke want to disappear into the couch.
“Yeah, it’s a thing, Duke.” Steph says beside him, gently placing her hand on top of his that fiddles with a stray thread from his hoodie, as she gives him the most encouraging yet soft smile he’s seen her make towards him. His chest and head feels light and fluttery at the kindness and warmth she radiates and gives.
“Do you think you regress?” Tim asks, his eyebrows pitched upwards in a non-judgemental but pure curiosity. “Uh.. Yeah.. Maybe? I- I don’t know for sure, I’d have to look more into it?” He replies, his cheeks getting hotter under their gaze.
“That sounds like a good idea.” Dick comments as he walks into the room, carrying a possibly sleeping Cass in his arms like a toddler, her head tucked into the crook of his neck as she holds a Big Bird plush loosely from her dangling hand. “If you want resources, links, or just have questions, I’m sure any of us– including Cass, when she’s not regressed– would be happy to help.” He adds, smiling brightly at Duke, the others all nodding along, even Damian!
Duke is convinced of two things.
1. He was given the smartest and most supportive siblings in the world.
2. He’s melted into a puddle at the sudden affection and coziness that surrounds him.
Sinking further into the couch as he covers his hot face with his sweater paws, he mumbles out a ‘thank you’, earning him a few chuckles around the room at his instant embarrassment along with a pat on the shoulder from Steph.
With a few clicks of buttons, the music to Mario Kart starts up again, which he takes as his cue that the attention is no longer fixated on him, slowly bringing his hands down to his lap as he fiddles with the cuff of his sleeve.
Dick elbows his arm gently, glancing between the match and Cassandra whose head now rests on his chest. “Hey, I.. I just want you to know that we support you no matter what, okay? If you find out you regress, let us know and we can go from there, yeah?” He says in a hushed tone, as if the other four that were previously in the conversation, weren’t right next to them and definitely listening in.
“Yeah, I will. I promise.” Duke returns, nodding his head in agreement and confirmation. Dick grins in return with such love and care in his eyes, and it makes Duke feel positively safe, the warmth blooming in his chest by a tenfold as Dick wraps his arm around the younger’s shoulder, pulling him into a side hug and resting his head on top of Duke’s before pressing a kiss to the crown of his head.
Cass shifts in Dick’s arms, picking her head up slightly and looking around the room blearily before her gaze settles onto Duke with a sleepy smile, grabbing his hand and holding it as she rests her head down again. The cloudiness in Duke’s brain returned, but it’s not as scary this time. Not when his family is all around him, their energy quiet yet buzzing around the room as Tim and Steph begin another match, Damian watching the game alongside Jason who pays half attention to the screen, focused more on the image of Dick, Cass and Duke all holding each other. Duke swears he can see a smile forming on the man’s face.
“We love you, kid.” Dick murmurs out, quiet enough for only Duke (and Cass, if she was awake.) to hear, a content smile settling on Duke’s face, closing his eyes and snuggling into Dick’s side.
“I love you all too.”
