okay, so here's my post digging into kirimusubi, one of the songs DOES did for gintama the final.

this is largely based on two existing translations (turn on english CC for the video), both of which i compared carefully and supplemented with my meagre understanding of japanese and some research.

both translations are generally pretty good, with the tumblr one (not sure where it's originally from) being more literal and the youtube video one smoothing the words to sound a bit more natural. one or the other seems more accurate in different places. here's more or less what i believe the lyrics to mean, with a priority over conveying meaning:

The stardust in the night sky that I look up at is always Beyond the silver dream In order to regain the old bond that I lost/was lost We have been trying to wash away even red-dyed fate And kept searching And finally got here in that hollow sunlight We swore that we would never let go of each other again [kiri musubu], shedding tears at the unruly/rough tenderness/kindness In order to love, we must continue forward on this path no matter what The stardust in the night sky that I look up at is always Beyond the silver dream If you're going to bitterly abandon yourself and go mad Why not live an upright life that's like you? so. there's a LOT to unpack here. but first, let's address the lyric i left untranslated, which is also the title of the song: kiri musubi. so what does this term actually mean?

literally speaking, these words mean "cut" and "tie." you might recognize kiri as a different form of "kiru." interestingly, the video translator translated it as "in the clashing swords." i'm not sure this actually has basis in anything, but it's a neat thought.

see, the title of the song is almost certainly an inversion of musubi kiri, a specific kind of knot in the japanese tradition of knot-tying, mizuhiki. what does this knot signify? well...

"a knot that's difficult to loosen once it's been tied" brings to mind the way that shouka sonjuku trio describe the bonds between them. for example when they're complaining about it in the beginning of the final (ch 699):

this is just one of the many terms used in the song that evokes a specific moment or line of dialogue in gintama. for example, "raise your fist" and

but i digress. the shocking truth is that the song's title, and part of the lyrics in its chorus, deliberately invokes a marriage and funeral simultaneously. "tying the knot" and "cutting the knot," literally. in case you didn't think the movie-original sakura blossom boat scene was enough.

that's not all, though. because i would argue that the words being inverted--kiri musubi rather than musubi kiri--alongside the other lyrics imply that rather than "a wish for something to only happen once," the song is expressing a wish for something to happen once more. "to regain the old bond that was lost" and "that we once lived together in this place" make it pretty clear what's being implied, i think.

and yet, kiri means to cut. it means to snip away that difficult-to-loosen knot. and the rest of that line is about shedding tears at a violent kindness, a kindness that must be performed no matter how difficult because. if you'll do anything to protect someone, you'll even use their corpse, your sensei's corpse, as a stepping stone.

and the irony is pretty clear here too. the wish for something to only have to occur once--but this isn't the first time gintoki has had to cut down takasugi, or lose shouyou. so naturally, the words are inverted. that hope was dashed. the whole arc is a bizarre rehashing of their past. but in that happening, there's also opportunity for a different kind of wish. whatever your thoughts are on the writing choices for the final arc, this song seems like a sincere dedication to the emotions therein...

so like. what the fuck is up with that

Looking for an RP partner

So... lately I have been having an itch to write/RP... it's been years since I last wrote anything substantial... but I want to hop back onto the "bicycle" so to speak, so here's to some self advertising and info about myself.

Before you proceed, keep in mind I'm 29NB and any future partners willing to RP with me MUST be 21+. I would prefer it if they were 25+ as it would mean they are closer to my age, but I'm not going to be nit picky about the age range as long as they are 21 years old.

I have some RP experience both in tumblr and discord, but as I previously stated, it's been years. I also written a fic here and there, years ago.

My replies tend to vary from one liner sentences to multiple paragraphs in one go or in-between depending on my creative juices. You don't need to match my length (if I get crazy and reply you in one too many multiple paragraphs) if the creative juices aren't flowing.

I am looking for a casual partner, someone who feels comfortable with me and vice versa. Someone who wants to have fin with me and making up stories for our favorite characters/ships.

Also very important for me, communication is key. Specially before starting a RP and during. We have to know each other's squicks, hard no's and anything that could be potentially triggering to either one of us.

I am very open minded and I am willing to RP almost anything for example: smut, GL, BL, HET, dark stuff, violence, gore, bdsm, a/b/o, mpreg/fpreg....etc. Thinking about it, I might just RP about anything as long as it's talked to beforehand, there might be some instances where I might say no, depending on the characters and the story being written. (I'm saying like if the situations call for it I might bre willing to write vore, which I personally don't like)

I shall only RP in discord and discord only. It's easier and cleaner. I ain't going back to tumbr RPing, unless I get begged to go back to that mess. I don't wan't create a character tumblr blog ever again, or do I?

I am an ever loving multi-shipper and love many ships, however I do have my OTPs.

I don't mind doing RP with OCs, whether they be OC x OC, or MC x OC. I do have some OCs that live mostly in my head. (I might share them one day to the world, maybe, maybe not.)

And now... it is time to put down the list of some of the fandoms I am willing to RP and the characters (muses) I am comfortable to RP as and some of the ships that go with it. (Bold means I feel way more comfortable than usual writing for the character, don't know why, some characters just sing to my soul I guess?) Regardless, I'll RP as anyone and I'll do any ships, unless they are a NOTP. This is just a sample list, if you decide to RP with me, we can talk more in depth about it.

1) ok i know this means nothing to you dear but caribou one piece I will find a way to get your ass WHY is he still here. who cares about him why is he talking up panel space in the middle of this climax. get his ass out of here literally no one cares about him when has he ever done anything of relevance. sorry I read the last chapter three days ago and I'm still annoyed

2) this is about elementary, just to be clear. anyways I wanna kick mycroft's ass so so bad. in general that character archetype gets on my nerves but he's particularly slimy for some reason

3) this also means nothing to you but I don't give a fuck about sasaki or his dead family. there are a thousand more compelling characters in gintama the only way to make him interesting would have been if nobume had actually killed his wife

4) I'm trying to think about one you could also know and I'm failing miserably i do not have the hater's temperament fr fr the problem is that while I usually root for protagonists like the basic bitch I am I can also appreciate a well written antagonist so the only characters I get annoyed with are annoying side characters which as a rule don't really stick in mind. can I copypaste the leitner rant

5) can I say hermie dndads or will I be drawn and quartered on the public square. look it's not like I don't like him, in fact he's the best and I love him so much but I hate that the tag and ao3 is just him when there's so much more that it could be about. why have you all tumblr twinkified this guy for the love of god talk about literally anything else. also it's not the question but I think it would be fun to kick his ass. I feel like he'd make a squeaky toy noise, very satisfying

Hi! Yes absolutely! I am so sorry it took so long. I haven't opened Tumblr in forever. I'm not sure if I can list down 2 characters from the same media platform once but just in case I'm not, I'll just list down one. This is based on the order I remember them by since I have really shit memory and there might've been a few fave characters I missed 🥲

I'll list down what comes to mind first haha

1. Yukine (Noragami)

-I love him SO MUCH. The first time I watched Noragami back in 2016, I knew I would love this boy with all my heart. Something about troubled and misunderstood anime kids with fucked up backstories just make me want to take care of them man. He's my adopted baby period. His character development is also very beautiful.

He's a very complex character. Idk why people shit on him for acting like a child when he is quite literally a child 😭 let him be a kid man, let him be immature, I was also immature at 14 and I'm happy for him bc he's got someone understanding by his side at all times.

I wish the ending would do justice to his character fr.

2. Kagura (Gintama)

She's funny asf. Also, strong asf. I love good female rep in anime and Kagura takes the cake for me. She has no filter, she's really cool, really funny, and just a fun and enjoyable character overall. (You should watch Gintama btw, it's my favorite anime).

3. Usopp (One Piece)

People shit on him a lot and I'm sick of it. I love him because he is SO REAL. He represents ordinary human beings in the One Piece world and I admire his bravery so much. His goal isn't even something grand, he just wants to be the bravest man who crossed the sea and I love that for him. He's a coward fr but seeing him break out of his shell and take courage to face his fears make me so emotional and proud. He inspires me to face my fears too :')

4. Izaya (Durarara!!)

He was lowkey the reason why I majored in Psychology. I love this cunning man. Watching everything go into flames bc of the shit he pulls excites me so much. I love watching him work. Totally not bc of his VA.

5. Newt (The Maze Runner Series)

Okay, this person was also real as shit. The way he's depicted in the books? Perfection. He's just so kind and caring and gentle to the gladers and to people they met during the scorch trials and ugh he deserved sm better :(

the way i have a whole 'nother blog dedicated to the maze runner series and it's always just abt him 💀 i was obsessed w him man. something abt broken/complex characters who are just so kind and tragic always have my heart.

6. Chuuya (Bungou Stray Dogs)

After I read stormbringer, I was never the same again. He is actually super sweet and super down to earth. I love him so much because he is so genuine with his intentions? Also, the shit has been through man... Yet, he still chose to live and fight. I admire that so much from him.

he is also a very complex and tragic character. i love him sm bc of that... i'm sensing a pattern here.

7. Armin (Attack on Titan)

His smartass made me fall in love with him. My boy just wanted to see the sea man. I admire his bravery so much and he gets shit ton of hate too for not kissing Eren's ass but I love him so much for standing his ground and having faith in his best friend. He was lowkey psycho too tbh. Smart men>>

8. Yuuta (Jujutsu Kaisen)

Okay, something about timid guys who are lowkey psychotic always get me going. He's a cool character and he's sexy. Period.

9. Killua (Hunter x Hunter)

ALSO MY BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!! He deserves the world 😭 He went through so much at 12 bro and I just want to take care of him so much bc he deserves to be a kid!!!!! Big brother Killua also has my heart. He's so sweet and caring and kind and genuine and UGH I LOVE HIM.

the way he just wanted a friend 😭 i'd gladly be his friend man if i were in the hxh universe. he's too sweet 😔 and he deserves sm better!!!

10. Jo March (Little Women)

I SEE MYSELF IN HER SO MUCH. The way she just wanted everything to stay the same even when change was inevitable and the people in her life ended up growing up. I love how as I watched her grow up, the traits that she had as a kid were still there yet she was slowly opening to change. I just relate to her so much and we are so alike in so many ways.

Hey guys!

I'm Saskia (they/them) and I'm new on tumblr (feeling like a boomer now). Like a cat I have seven lifes.

In my first life I'm studing in a Research Master. Currently I'm writing my master thesis about Manga and Anime fans in Germany.

In the second I'm a writer of fantasy stories. Mostly I like different punk genres (e.g. Steampunk, Cyberpunk or Solarpunk). Writing my first Silkpunknovel, life is not easy.

In the third life I'm a reader. Favorite genres are horror, punk genres, fantasy and scifi. I like stories from marginalized peoples, because I'm that too.

Forth I'm autistic, nonbinary and ace-pan. Sometimes I'll make jokes about it and sometimes I'm angry about society.

In the fith life I love the japanese culture. I was in Kyoto this year and I'm learning japanes since 2021.

Sixth I'm fan of different anime and manga and games. I like Gintama, Jujutsu Kaisen, some Magical Girls staff and much more. And I love queer shippings^^.

HOW WILL YOU PAY?

I accept payment through: PayPal, Stripe, Ko-fi, and Skrill.

Once I’m clear on what you’d like to have written and accept your commission, I’ll send you an invoice through whatever payment platform we agreed on.

You will not be required to submit payment until after we’ve discussed and agreed on the length and content of your commission.

CAN YOU SEE THE STORY BEFORE IT’S FINALISED?

Yes! Once I’ve deemed the commissioned story more or less complete, I will send it for your approval. At this stage you can request minor edits and I will do my best to accommodate them within reasonable limits.

Then, once you give me the green light, I will finalise your commission and send you the final version via email.

I will also post it on my AO3, unless you specifically ask me not to. I will also credit your username for commissioning me for this piece, or I can also not mention your username at all if you don’t want me to. In the latter case, I will say that it’s an anonymous commission.

DO I AUTOMATICALLY ACCEPT ALL COMMISSIONS?

I’d love to but unfortunately, I can’t. Time restraints, the number of projects I have going on, and simply my ability to write a certain prompt will all affect whether I can accept your commission or not. keiji likes taylor swift and here's why (a little drabble)

it is not a secret that keiji akaashi, editor of a shounen manga is a dedicated taylor swift fan. the reason is very simple, he loves poetry, and he is fluent in various languajes.

he discover taylor when she was promoting the speak now tour in 2011, and fell in love with the way she wrote those lyrics.

that same year he met bokuto, and even if they met in the volleyball club, a few evenings later, when the guys in the club decided they wanted to go to a karaoke, he fell in love with koutaro. "enchanted" was on loop inside his head for the rest of his high school years, but he never confessed to koutaro.

it wasn't until 1989 was release that he understood the importance of taylor swift's music in his life. the free love of "new romantics", the need to hide of "i know places", the iconic "style" or the anxiety of "out of the woods", the poetry of that album and the story and character taylor was exploring was his graduating tesis from tokyo university.

so, when keiji is having a burnout and he can't help udai with the direction of his manga, he always goes back to taylor swift's lyrics to find the way to help the mangaka...

then in 2017, "look what you made me do" was upload on youtube and he knew blondie was back, and bokuto told him, "we should listen the new album togheter"...

10th of november of 2017, reputation is released, and that was the moment he knew, he needed to tell his friend the feelings he's been hiding all this time, but not that night, he was going to way a bit, right?

new year's day, with "new year's day" in the background was the moment keiji confessed to koutaro. in the middle of new year's party organized by fukurodani's vbc old team. they knew keiji was a swiftie, and they knew she had this song, but they never though he would confess his feelings that night. the beggining of 2018, and whole new world for koutaro and keiji...

then lover, folklore and evermore, and also his boyfriend motivated him to write his own poetry, his own stories. sometimes he shares them in tumblr, and even some little one piece or gintama fanfic in archive of our own (he spent lockdown writing these amazing stories).

and now he's is waiting midnights and listening bokuto complaining about not having the re-recording of reputation o karma before a completely new album (yes bokuto believes in the theory of karma)
