KilluGon reference in the Succession War arc (Togashi himself made a submission to the killugon playlist) (NOT CLICKBAIT!)

guys holy shit okay so I was looking through the succession war arc because I wanted to find that panel of the CANON HXH LESBIAN KISS but I got sidetracked and started reading chapter 375 where I found something that ended up changing my entire life trajectory :

Here in chapter 375, Tyson is giving "the teachings of love" . Tyson goes on speech that could easily apply to both Gon and Killua post-separation. We're not too sure of what the two are currently up to, but it's reasonable to assume that this is how they feel, considering they had wished to always be by each other's sides.

And then in the next panel, it is said that the speech was just a rip off of Nishino Kana's lyrics. "Darling" and "No Matter How Much" (Tatoe Donna Ni) are the two mentioned Nishino Kana songs.

Out of curiosity, I looked up both songs and the english translated lyrics of them.

That's when it happened...

and

It's pretty damn obvious so I won't dissect it too much, but both lyrics could apply to Gon and Killua. "Darling" being from Killua's side and "No Matter How Much" from Gon's.

I mean, c'mon. The lyrics are soooo killugon coded, and the fact that Togashi paired these two particular songs together. There's no way someone could listen to them and not make the connection to Gon and Killua.

This was all just an observation of the two particular songs mentioned after a speech about missing someone and wishing you could go back to those days. It could totally just be a coincidence. Just Togashi being the silly man he is, picking two completely random songs that have absolutely no significance whatsoever to the previous events of the main storyline while being totally unaware of the similarities!

You’d make for a very fun and flashy couple, imo. Clearly Knuckle is a dude with a very strong personal style, and I think he’d appreciate that in a partner too. He shares your love for animals - tends to be a little more of a dog person, but come on, who can resist a kitten? 😽 He’s not going to be put off or scared away by your occasional outbursts, and though his response might often sometimes be an outburst of his own, he gets over it pretty quickly. So…the first time Knuckle witnesses you spending a whole day in bed, he doesn’t handle it very well tbh. When he’s feeling down or angry, being active makes him feel better, so it might take some time for him to get that you’re different. Not being sulky or lazy, just processing your feelings in your own way. He loves you though, so he’ll adjust, although he still just doesn’t feel right leaving you totally alone all day. Might insist you keep a puppy or kitten with you for company - you know, because they whine too much when they miss you. 🙄

D is for Dirty Secret (NSFT)

I don’t know why, but I feel like Knuckle has a scent kink. It initially started as something very innocent - smell is the sensation most strongly tied to memory, so it makes perfect sense that he’d want a piece of your clothing to remember you by when he has to be away from you for a long time. Right? Morel and Shoot tease him pretty hard when they catch him wrapping an old shirt of yours around his pillow one night. So, he would literally rather die than have them find out about the pair of your underwear he keeps stashed for when he’s really “lonely.”

O is for Oral (NSFT)

Knuckle slightly prefers receiving to giving. He’s naturally a bit of a hair puller and head pusher, not because he’s trying to be “dominant” (unless you’re into that 👀) but because he just gets too caught up in how good your mouth feels. He will also eat you out very enthusiastically (though you might need to ask), and may make it a personal challenge to see how fast or how many times he can make you cum with just his tongue. I feel like Gon and Killua missed an important lesson in the Heaven's Arena arc that might have saved them a lot of pain. The entire tower is based around advancement via strength, in order to reach the top. But when they find out what's at the top, they find it doesn't interest them. They enjoyed the journey on the way (meeting Wing and Zushi, learning nen, fighting Hisoka) and didn't go to the top. 1/2

And in the election arc, Gon climbs the World Tree (another tall structure that requires strength to get to the top) and meets Ging. But he finds that it wasn't as great as the journey getting there (and Ging isn't a good father at all). The whole strength = worth in the hxh universe is even analyzed in CAA, with Netero, who threw his whole life away to attain strength, couldn't even defeat Meruem with his own strength + meruem didn't even remember their battle. 1/2

Sorry this is the same anon I thought I could finish what I wanted to say in 2 asks lol. But basically it's interesting to me how Heaven's Arena somewhat parallels the World Tree. And how this theme of what it really means to be strong and is attaining peak (physical) strength worth it. Like pursuit of strength to protect people is healthy, but pursuit of strength just to be strong or prove yourself is self-destructive.

yes. yes, man, now that you mention it, you could call heaven’s arena a foreshadow of the whole meeting Ging situation. When Gon and Killua discovered what was waiting for them at the top, the most exciting thing ever, with lots of prizes and money and fame and glory, they realized they just. didn’t care. which is exactly what happened with Ging. At heaven’s arena, they enjoyed the journey to learn nen, and decided they didn’t care about the reward. at the world tree, gon realized that he enjoyed the journey more than meeting ging.

so yes, heaven’s arena totally parallels the world tree situation. holy shit.

but yes, i agree that this lesson of “who cares what awaits at the top” was showed during heaven’s arena, it just sucks that killua and gon didn’t realize this could apply to their current situation :/

this would’ve definitely saved them so much trouble. gon wouldn’t have put all his worth on his strength, like you said, because he would’ve known the journey is more important, and they both would’ve had a lot more fun. maybe CAA wouldn’t even have happened LOL

but ty for making me notice those parallels !! i always found funny that they didn’t care about Battle Olympia, but now i realize that Battle Olympia = Ging, and it’s literally foreshadowing of what would eventually happen. both situations are literally “now that i know what awaits, i’m really not interested anymore. the journey was more fun”. Man, this is genius.

Aries: Usually, I don’t care about games and in fact, hate playing them. But I will get hella competitive in Mario Kart or WiiSports against my brother.

Aquarius: I’ve been a vegetarian for a while now and my parents tell me to eat grass when I’m hungry.

Pisces: When I was homeschooled for my freshman year of high school, I literally had no friends since I just moved to a different country so I spent my free time binge-watching the whole Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit trilogy non-stop (quite literally holy shit) for 2-3 months straight. If one disk went missing, I would just watch the next one or rewatch the one I had just finished.

like many others on their first watch, my initial reaction was What The Fuck Is This The Same Show

then that supposed-to-be-offhand comment i just O_O not to mention the sister and brother w the darts i didnt like episode. too long so i told my sister just to skip thru it (and other parts ofc)

so i was not enjoying this arc at first

the koala was so funny though…. clown shoes…

MAN that was a strong move on togashi’s part… taking these familiar characters from the first arc and brutally killing them. it really shatters the audience’s sense of safety and you’re left thinking oh Shit. so this is how it’s gonna be and u worry for the main characters.. like who’s gonna die next?

so yeah killing kite was that was times a bunch more because WOW gon’s like we’re gonna save him! and then cut to pitou holding his head damn

then we have….that scene…. 🤧🤧🤧before i saw a gifset of hunterpedia including the one where killua kisses gon and i sent to to my friend asking him if it is canon??? and he just said watch the show………………… the answer is not explicitly said but Basically (but u know that already)

Alot of people draw parallels between Kurama and Kurapika, Hiei and Killua, Yusuke and Gon, Kuwabara and Leorio But no one comments on how Karasu is this weird hybrid of Ilumi and Hisoka. ( Also Sensui and Chrollo)

Wish I could help you there, but I only saw I think two seasons? Maybe one season. *shrugs* I could never get into Hunter x Hunter. I have a few theories for why, I think, but it’s all super subjective. One of my friends is the exact opposite, obsessed with HxH and unable to enjoy Yu Yu Hakusho.

If you are a fan of HxH, I strongly advise you don’t read this. These are my personal opinions on why I cannot stand the show, not a detailed analysis of the show itself or objective view of its merit. Will be under cut.

Also I am sleep deprived and potentially tipsy so this will likely not be coherent. *finger guns*

Anyway, for me, HxH always felt… too on the nose? Too Naruto-like, in a way? Here, meet Gon, he’s a super nice and friendly dude, but oh no, he has a tragic past because his dad is missing… And now he wants to be just like his dad, who is missing, so why is he emulating a dude he doesn’t know? And here, meet Killua, he’s a psychopath and he’s like 10. Instead of getting this kid a therapist the older characters around him are going to encourage him to go kill people. Oh yes, these children are also murderers. Meet Kurapika, the Kurama of the group, who is also a bishie, is low-key scary, intelligent, caring, and also has a tragic past! Yay… And Leorio… I confess I don’t know shit about him. But he probably has a tragic past.

Okay, I am probably being too harsh on this show. I know it’s beloved by many people. But the constant pushing of “tragic!! So sad!!” and “child murder! Yay!” Is just not my cup of tea.

YYH did this way better, in my opinion. The tragedy is there, but it’s layered on slowly. Hiei, who arguably has one of the most tragic childhoods a shonen character ever experienced, doesn’t actually tell us what happened to him until the show is almost over. We get to learn who he is, what makes him tick, we get to love him, ponder about his past, get invested. Then we are given the sad. But HxH is like Naruto in the fact that it just shoves it into our face, as if to say, “hey, this character had a bad childhood, you should feel sorry for them and love them.” I just hate that.

And Gon… that friendly optimism is just… weird? He feels 2-d to me, not like a real child. Whereas the imperfect Yusuke acts exactly as you’d expect a child in his position to act. He has daddy issues because he never had a father. He has issues with authority because his mother was awful and he never felt safe or comforted by the adults around him. He gravitates towards male role models and at the same time rejects them. He respects only one authority, Genkai, because she is the first adult who taught him what he found useful. His kindness, his empathy, all that is earned. When Yusuke tells Genkai he cares about her, when he cries over her death, we believe it and we feel it, because we saw what he was like when he didn’t care, when he didn’t have an adult to turn to. It’s like a child that had been neglected all his life who was suddenly thrust into a foster home or an orphanage where one cranky lady is done with life, so she’s honest and raw and doesn’t throw platitudes into his face, and he respects that. He gravitates to it the same way 9th grade students do to the teacher who uses swear words in class and isn’t afraid to show the Romeo and Juliet movie that has the *gasp* boobie in it. His relationship with Genkai is realistic and earned, and genuine like crazy, and when he mourns her, the first and only adult he respected, loved, and felt safe with, we all mourn with him…

But Gon? I don’t know. He just put me off from the start. He doesn’t seem to have a reason for being so damn friendly. He doesn’t seem to act like a normal human being at all. He’s just this weird 2-d cartoon that tries to kill with kindness and be just like his missing dad instead of, ya know, doing the realistic thing and having a complicated relationship with him. Like, Yusuke doesn’t hate Atsuko. But he sure does blame her for lots of things. I can interject my own childhood here, because my feelings toward family are also complicated. I know the “missing parent” thing really well because my parents lived in a different county for half of my childhood, and I can tell you, while I understood why they did it, and loved them, and appreciated with all my heart the sacrifices they made… I still did, and still do, blame them for robbing me of a normal childhood. Of robbing me of a relationship with them. Of robbing me of that mother-daughter best friend dynamic, of being able to tell them all my secrets and feel like they’re part of my life and not just distant parental figures I respect and love the way the religious love and respect their gods. And Yusuke is the same. His relationships with all the adults in his life, even some of the other kids, are complicated and layered and realistic. He knows his mother had a raw dealing having him at what, 15? But he also blames her for not doing more… Hiei, how does he feel, knowing that his mother died, instead of leaving the Glacier Village during her pregnancy or right after birth to go look for him? How does he feel knowing she stayed there, and died there? It wasn’t her fault. She was heartbroken, she was exhausted from giving birth, and she was weak and scared and alone… it’s even implied she committed suicide. And if she did, don’t you think Hiei might still feel complicated about it? Don’t you think he might feel like she should have been stronger, for him, for this small child that didn’t deserve his fate? She should have lived and left the village and searched for him! She should have looked even if she knew he was dead, if nothing else then to bury him! That’s the sort of thoughts I bet once ran through his mind…

But Gon? Nothing. Just… love for mom and idealizing dad. It’s boring, unrealistic, and I hate it.

Killua, my friend’s favorite shonen character (if not favorite anime character) of all time is literally one of my least favorite, and the only character I might have liked, Kurapika, was clearly ripping off of Kurama, whip and all included. So I just could never finish the show.

As for the Karasu question, technically, he came first, so those other characters are based on him. But from what I did actually see of Hisoka… he’s like an evil pedo (right?? I heard something like that??) clown. That’s what he is. How is he threatening? This isn’t even a rhetorical question. Creepy, maybe. But I’d just feel slightly uneased by him and then call the police if he came near me. If Karasu had his eyes on me like he did on Kurama, I’d probably shit my pants, let’s be real.

Karasu was a sadist. He was thrilled by the “intimacy between murderer and victim.” And the scariest shit of all? You can sorta understand him. When you murder someone, you are the only person in the world to see what happens to them. You have complete control over that person. You are their god, deciding if they are worthy of life or death. It’s an urge you can theorize about, can talk about, can even understand to a degree. But Hisoka? He uh, wears clown clothes and chases Gon? Or something? He makes scary faces? Karasu doesn’t have to even show his face to be terrifying. He just has to talk about his hobbies and his beliefs. Hell, the moment she shows up you feel something is up. I saw Hisoka like, at least 10 times and I still don’t know shit bout him. Karasu had like, 3-4 speaking scenes and they all made him fucking scarier with each one. I felt like each scene with Hisoka added absolutely zero to the show. Not to mention how fucking slow it was…

I feel like having a character target your young protagonist and make creepy faces at them is just lazy. Dude is, and I know Naruto came after, but that’s the show I saw first and actually know a thing or two about (till whenever shippuden started). So dude is just like Orochimaru. Now I was never scared of that guy, I just thought he was a total creeper. To me, there were way scarier moments. Hell, even Gaara’s brother, when he like, trapped a guy inside a puppet and then blood dripped out? Was that him? Anyway, that moment was way freakier than anything Orochimaru did. Karasu’s like 3 scenes were way more psychologically scary than all of Orochimaru’s scenes put together. And I got the same vibe from Hisoka as Orochimaru. The, he’s creepy and these kids should definitely find an adult asap, and not “holy fuck that’s a mass kidnapper/rapist/torturer/murderer and holy hell I am fascinated and also terrified and holy shit Kurama run run run!”

*shrugs* Karasu is honestly probably the scariest villain in YYH, too. Only because he enjoys torture and murder, and he explains why. And the explanation makes fucking sense and its so terrifying that I can’t

and he also doesn’t look like a clown. That’s a major plus. I’m not and never will be scared of clowns. Like… its a clown. Its colorful and does weird shit. How is that scary? No, demonic looking motherfuckers with long ass ink black hair and eyes that glow purple with glee at the thought of ripping blood curling screams out of someone in front of a giant ass audience, and lamenting that they wish they could fucking keep him and I dont know fucking fuck his corpse is that what he meant cause holy fuck!??!

Anyway, Karasu gives me nightmares and I love him and I don’t care for HxH and I need sleep and love you all very much please don’t hate me for disliking this show I really did give it like, three separate chances. *shrugs*

This is the first fic of george’s that I read, and I’ve read it multiple times, and it’s been integral in my shaping of characterizations within my own hetalia fics. I could include all of his works, but this one stands out the most. I also listen to the vera verse songs and get extremely nostalgic, so there’s that

This fic is odd in the sense that I found it while suddenly getting on a pruaus kick, during which I followed a bunch of pruaus people on tumblr. Eventually, I would find out years later that I was going to the same college as one of these people and become friends with them. So not only does this fic have a nostalgic tie to it, I find the story brilliantly written with wonderful characterization, though it is in a weird format.

Inspired by the film 500 Days of Summer, I’d really like to see a couple meet and fall in love, but eventually one (or both) ends the relationship because they realise it’s not working/they can’t imagine spending their whole life with this person/what have you. I’d really love to see how the relationship develops, with the happy times and the eventual bad times as it falls apart, and then the hope of finding love elsewhere.

I can’t tell you how happy I am that I found this fic after 6 or so years. I can’t tell you how nostalgic is makes me for my death note phase, remember when I would read this in my mom’s office, minimizing the fic on a laptop I hope she never checked. The writing is phenomenal. The format on this site is wonky, but doable to read. (I’m even reformatting it myself right now). It’s mostly everything I could have wanted in a death note fic; it even inspired my own very complex death note AU back in the day. In some alternate reality, I wrote that instead of AWH. I plan to maybe make a personal paper copy for myself of this fic I love it so much. It is on the level of George’s stuff on how much it means to me.

The story takes place *after* Death Note ends, although the main characters have not died. Here the Yellowbox Warehouse is essentially the pinnacle of L's 6-year long offensive against Kira, who believes L to be dead, when he really isn't. L faked his death, and proceeded with the case behind the cover of his three top heirs, Mello, Matt and Near. Kira himself doesn't succumb to his defeat, but is instead rescued at the last moment by his nemesis lover who decides that a more apropos end to the God of the New World is not death--but redemption, in the form of a new case and a 5th so-called Kira, that L and Light must bring down together... or risk losing everything. Yes, there is actually a plot LOL Buuuut, this puppy has yaoi and pairing's aplenty. LxLight and MelloxMatt are technically the mains, but when you cut straight down to it, this is a story about Light and Mello and how they go from hate to need, from enemies to lovers, and maybe even something more...

It’s a soulmate AU that goes through the plot line of the manga/show and fuck. Light is Ace?? The writing is so good??

I really like K. It’s a weird show, and it has copious faults. Maybe I just really like that the characters have so much potential, and this fic (as well as the one above) truly expands on that potential. This fic is an excellent exploration of these two character’s relationships, there’s just the right amount of angst. I’ve read it multiple times.

A whole year, gone from his head just like that - and how many memories could you fit in that time, anyway? It wasn’t a question Yata thought he’d ever have to ask, but with so many things changed between Saruhiko and himself, he wasn’t about to leave it alone.

It just sucked that the new world they’d built was still so easy to break.

Meeting Wallace turned out to be a life changing event for Steven. He realizes that pretty early on. Other things, however, come with time.

Binge-Watching: Yu Yu Hakusho, Day 5, Episodes 25-29

It’s time. Say it with me now.

TOOOOOOOOOOURNAMENT AAAAAAAAAAAAAARC!

The Dark Tournament

At long last, we’ve reached the arc that’s made Yu Yu Hakusho so well known: the Dark Tournament, where Yusuke and his friends fight for their lives against the forces of the spirit world at the behest of a brutal bounty hunter. We’re only two fights in so far, with Kuwabara and Karama having fought their preliminary matches against their first demon team, but I can already tell this is gonna rock. This is the Togashi complex-interlocking-mechanics-battle-by-way-of-solving-the-puzzle-of-your-opponent’s-abilities storytelling I’ve been missing. Even that initial battle on the boat to quell the numbers had a very HxH feel of the “trial before the actual test” mechanic that defined so many of its arcs.

Kuwabara’s fight with that accursed baby Goku cosplayer was a good way to set the scene, detailing just how strong these demons are and how tough our heroes are gonna have to fight to overcome them. He may have lost in the end, but the fact he was able to land a pretty solid hit proves this won’t be a battle against impossible odds; he and Yusuke will be able to stand toe-to-toe with at least the lesser demons. Plus, he was able to scare his opponent so badly that he’s likely never going to give them any trouble whatsoever from now on. In a classic Togashi fashion, the winner of the match isn’t necessarily the one who comes out looking better. Also, fighting with Yo-Yos? How much more HxH could this show possibly get?

Karama’s fight, meanwhile, was proof that smarts are gonna be more important than strength. All he had to do was get one hit in under the radar and his opponent was already dead. We’re tied 1-1, so Hiei and Genkai better be able to take their foes down before Yusuke has to fight in his sleep. Just a thought.

Also HOLY SHIT GENKAI’S ON THEIR TEAM THIS IS GONNA BE AWESOME. Though it is kinda dumb they’re keeping it a quasi-mystery. Even little kids could figure that out, show.

Toguro

From the second Yusuke was able to stab Toguro through the stomach at the climax at the end of last arc, it was clear something was up. It was too easy of a victory against a foe that had been built up so much, even considering the general poor storytelling of that arc (which, yeah, sorry, I still don’t give a shit about Yukina. She’s a nothing character, sorry.) So when it was revealed that shady guy had paid them off to throw the fight for the sake of figuring out their opponent’s strengths before drafting them into the Dark Tournament, the show’s game plan was revealed. Playtime was over. Here was a foe who could genuinely kill Yusuke without a second thought. Here was a fight he had no chance of winning. Here is when shit starts to go down.

And Toguro is a fascinating villain to mark that transition. Like I mentioned last time, he fights by a particular code of honor, refusing to disgrace his opponents or himself by fighting cheaply. He challenged Yusuke fair and square, giving him plenty of time to increase his power to match his own, because he wanted a fair and worthy fight. He also has a lot of respect for Yusuke, and that comes from a very interesting philosophy in regards to combat. Fear, in his eyes, can be a fighter’s strongest tool, because it forces you to go beyond what you think you’re capable of to survive. And Yusuke, in his eyes, fights with fear, acknowledging his opponent’s strength enough to not half-ass anything. It’s fascinating to see this terrifyingly strong fighter basically issue a death warrant against our protagonist while still respecting him enough to give him the chance- and the motivation- to fight back.

And holy balls, I don’t think we’ve ever seen Yusuke this terrified before. If fear is his strongest weapon, then Toguro’s display of power should be enough to kick him into super-saiyan mode at the drop of a hat. Their fight is gonna be epic, and I can’t wait to see it happen.

Hiei’s Secrets

We also get a little more insight into Hiei from the end of last arc, and as it’s the one real thing of value to take away from that muddled mess, it’s worth talking about. Hiei and Yukina are half-siblings, and it seems that Hiei very purposefully kept his life separate from hers, even when they were kids. He’s got a lot of self-loathing issues to work out, especially now, considering he’s a criminal. The fact that he likely got his Third Eye to watch over her from a distance, not feeling worthy enough to be a true part of her life, says a lot about how he interacts with the world and his own inner demons. I imagine we’ll be getting a lot more from him before all is said and done, so until then, here’s hoping there’s a light at the end of his tunnel.

Odds and Ends

-You know, I literally just started watching Guilty Crown, so the fact I got to the part where Toguro’s brother turns into a sword for him to fight with right now is... uncanny.

-”It’s a long-distance relationship. It’s romantic!” ldfhaksdj Botan you are too pure

-Yusuke and Keiko: the most teeny teens to ever teen on a date. Did that make sense? No, but whatever.

-”I’m sorry, when I kill people, I’m used to them staying dead.” Yeah, don’t you know, Toguro? People die when they are killed. Wait-

-”You didn’t have too many friends growing up, did you?” Harsh but fair, Kuwabara.

-Yes, FINALLY! Now the girls know everything. Thanks for finally getting to that, Botan.

-”I don’t trust grown-ups who dress that fancy.” You and me both, Kuwabara.

-”They’re always mean when they get handsome” You’re a peach, Botan.

-That poor cat-lady announcer can’t possibly be paid enough to put up with this shit.

-I didn’t know how much I needed Kuwabara’s give-no-fucks sister until I got her, and now I hope she never leaves.

-I love you, Botan. Just in general.

Thoughts on the “Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure” English dub. Episode one.

hello again. this is going to be an interesting experience because while I have read all of Jojo I have not actually watched every episode. also when the dub was first dropped I remember just hating what little I heard of it apart from Patrick Seitz as Dio. I think now that the dust has settled and I’m over the fact that Jonathan and Joseph sport British accents its worth it to actually look at it and judge it appropriately. because let’s face it you can’t gauge how a dub is by watching three short clips from it

I also think its going to be good going back to Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency because honestly PB is very underrated within the fandom and while I still think BT is the weakest plot wise it still contains some of my favorite characters in the series as well as some very great moments. I am of the firm belief that you cannot skip Jojo parts. you cannot start with SDC, I don’t care if you think Hamon was stupid or find the idea of PB and BT boring. you have to at least watch this because otherwise you will not understand why Jonathan is so important, you will get none of Dio’s development as its all confined to PB, and you’re missing out on a large reason why Joseph is such a great character (he’s more than an old man shouting “OH MY GOD”).

I don’t think this is me being unfair. I’m not saying you have to go read all eight parts of Jojo within a span of a month or anything. I just think you should start from the beginning and progress forward. if you’re most excited for SDC or DIU that’s okay, but you can’t use them as a starting point because contrary to what some have claimed all Jojo parts are interconnected
