the thing about "Chetney and FCG couldn't control their actions, Imogen is influenced by Predathos, Laudna has her abuser in her head, it's not comparable to what Ashton did!" is that you can split hairs and build a decent case for why what Ashton did is uniquely terrible, and how no amount of trauma and desperation can compare to a biological imperative or an outside malevolent influence, if you think they specifically deserve punishment. if you think he alone is unworthy of sympathy. but that's missing the point, which is: these conditions are essentially fantasy representations of the same types of real things that drove Ashton to take the shard. the Hells' monstrosities and wisdom saving throws don't separate them from their humanity but underline it, and the people who don't have the exact number of stress points they can take before they have a violent meltdown written on a sheet, or whose voice in their head telling them everyone they love will betray them isn't actually attached to an evil wizard.
the point of the Hells is not that there is a clear delineation between when someone is in control of their actions and when they aren’t but that there isn't, and that everything we do is buried beneath the weight of our desires and our histories and our bodies, and ultimately our responsibility. the point is that they’re all 'ticking time bombs' because of the lot they've drawn in life and the lessons it has taught them, and the point is that they're gonna fucking make it work anyways. the point is when Ashton tells Chetney that the next time he fucks up massively they'll be there for him and help him pick up the pieces, and that that's what the Hells are doing for Ashton right now. it's Chetney telling Fearne that both she and Ashton fucked up, and finding a way for her to get her anger out that isn't hurting either of them. it's Laudna knowing she can't control herself around Ashton and the shard and running away until she's calmed down. and it's the rest of the Hells welcoming her back with open arms in the morning, giving her patience and not judgement. the point is that these people who have been rejected and punished for their fuck ups their whole lives can try to be the best versions of themselves for each other, and be loved and forgiven even when they fail.

maybe let actual trans people and gnc people say what they have an issue with instead of acting like…one episode of a cartoon on youtube that has people do drag is going to result in mass murder?
idk it’s just funny to me that you seem so upset over what you think episode 5 will be
Stereotypes have literally caused genocides in the past, multiple times! Jim Crow laws even came from stereotypes of people like me, people who are poc! Not just that, but the stereotypes being portayed in the newest episode, are the same stereotypes being used as an excuse to try to kill drag queens, and children, right now!
The episode is literally going to show Moxxie, in drag, as a "danger around children" by depicting him trying to harm someone in front of kids, the exact type of stereotypes that
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When if the media stopped constantly representing drag queens as "a danger to children", would attacks like this would have happened?
Actually... NO! Because this happened because of generations of misrepresentation, generations of public misinformation.
This isn't about "this makes this happen". It's about representation. -and the fact that so many of you forget what representation is to benefit a cartoon made by a cis white passing woman is actually disgusting. This episode literally has stereotypes that can and will cause more problems for the lgbt+ community, same for how Angel Dust caused more people to sexualize gay men being molested because of people like Ralphielle, same for how the pilot and episode 4 of S2 caused more people to say the r slur. This shit effects people, universally, it's not a "you have to be ___ to see that something is causing issues" ordeal. Misrepresentation is a universal problem that effects literally all minorities, all of us! Drag queens being misrepresented as a "danger around kids" is why the laws trying to ban them are happening... in the first place! Representation effects the reputation of us all! So speculation or not, do I, and multiple people from the trans community who have now said the same thing, have a right to be concerned? Yes! Yes, we all do, stop gatekeeping because you want to get off to Moxxie's femininity. It's gross, and people do have a right to be concerned.
Stereotypes are not "harmless". They effect all of us, the more stereotypes show trans women as a "danger" to kids in the bathroom, the more that drag queens are seen as a "danger around kids." The more that black lives are seen as "savages." The more that people who are disabled are seen as "stupid and useless". All of the stereotypes in Helluva Boss are stereotypes created from generations of oppresion. None of this is "ok."
Tumblr media
There are literal threads about stereotypes like this being wrong everywhere. This isn't "for" me to "look good online/white knight", that would involve making assumptions with no other says.
This is for them, to say what they've all been saying now for DECADES! Trans lives are not "a danger to kids", these stereotypes need to stop, not just for their safety, but for the safety of all the lgbt+ community against conservative stereotypes!
EDIT:
SPEAK OF THE DEVIL!
Tumblr media
-and just to make it worse:
They even had the violence be done to the ONLY DARK SKINNED KID IN THE ENTIRE EPISODE!
HOLY SHIT Vivienne, this is some of the most unsubtle version of queerphobia in a cartoon that I have ever seen. Literally, all the episode does is fetishize Moxxie for being in drag, while he's meant to be disguised as a minor, while also literally, having even worse since Moxxie here isn't depicted as being a danger "around" kids like I thought he would be- he's a danger TO them! Which is even worse!
Because this year, an entire church full of children was attacked by transphobes for these exact assumptions about the drag community! These stereotypes have now gone too far, way too far, and now I wish that I begged harder for this episode to be post ponned because THIS YEAR Florida is planning to even cause physical harm to the drag community- for these exact stereotypes, that were originally created by conservatives... in the first place!
Tumblr media
The Helluva Boss fandom even called the trans genocide "GOOD LAWS!" THEY'RE NOT EVEN BEING SUBTLE WITH THEIR TRANSPHOBIA ANYMORE!
This is literally how Vivziepop stans responded to my post trying to warn Spindlehorse to post pone this episode- they aren't just transphobic, Vivziepop stans actually want the trans community dead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THIS EPISODE IS LITERALLY CAUSING MORE PEOPLE TO WANT THE TRANS COMMUNITY TO BE KILLED BY THESE LAWS! THIS IS A REAL FUCKING ORDEAL AND WE NEED TO STOP NORMALIZING THE STEREOTYPES IN THIS SHOW BEFORE THINGS GET ANY MORE OUT OF HAND!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look. Stop turning your heads away and look at the harm the stereotypes from this show have now caused!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Again, for the last time, actually read my posts because so many of you said "But it's not going to be-" while not even looking at the previews, what I wrote, or anything! For fucks sake- Stop excusing Helluva Boss's stereotypes just because you want more episodes of a cartoon. These fictional characters are not more important than real people! It's a public show, and conservatives can and will see this episode it weaponize the imagery as a means to cause harm to us, the exact same way 4chan did so after episode 3 of S2. This shit is really getting out of hand. Which is all the reason why that my video on the Sallie May controversy will be released, Vivziepop will be held accountable, and I will make sure that not a single piece of vital info is excluded from that video in question.

Destiel fans are so bitter they've posted and ruined the Good Omens spoiler that got leaked. And now people say how trash the spn fandom is when (yeah it kinda is) but its the bitter hellers that are doing this because their useless ship isn't and never got close to canon and they just wanna ruin the enjoyment for Good Omens fans who are trying to avoid spoilers (and most posts I've seen in GO fandom have been tagged correctly) Just makes me sad that again hellers are the face of spn.
Well, that's a shitty thing to do.
But yeah, it's not entirely surprising. Hellers didn't just ship a ship, they built it up into A Cause in their heads. One where the whole world would have to see how revolutionary and important their fetish obsession was once it became canon! Not just SPN fandom, but the whole world!
Except it didn't. And if what they cared about was actually ever representation rather than just feeling entitled to validation of their particular obsession? They would appreciate there being canons centered on far more progressive relationships than their OOC regressive stereotype-laden D/C fantasies. But in the exact same way they never cared about any representation in SPN outside of theorizing it was just testing the waters for D/C? And got actively angry at the idea Sam could be LGBT+ instead since it exposed the lie they were unsatisfied because they "needed" main character representation?
Well, of course they're trying to ruin things for other fandoms getting better content that actually makes sense in their canons, they didn't get the toy they wanted, wahhhhh so unfair!!!

You know, as someone who fav side is adrinette i'm really happy that they're getting canon pre-reveal. However, some things just rub me in the wrong way, because the decreasing moments on other LS sides that saddened me a little. Like, adrinette is my fav side in the LS but i'm a love square stan, so i kinda wished all four of them that get mutual romantic feelings. This leads to a lot of people who started to think that Adrien's feelings for Ladybug isn't real or just a "celebrity crush" or he didn't love her "true selves" until he realize he has feelings for Marinette and I hate that statement so much. Just because he's with Marinette now that doesn't mean his feelings for Ladybug just automatically gone like that..
I forgot this ask was in here 😅
But I would argue that things haven't changed *that* much. Ladrien and MC always had very sparce representation since s1. They are the smaller sides of the LS. The most attention was always given to Adrinette and LN, so it was always going to be one of those sides. We've had numerous episodes about why romantic LN doesn't work pre reveal bc Gabriel is a skid mark of a human being who does not care about his son's happiness at all. We see that in s5 as well through Adrinette.
If I'm being perfectly honest, I think saying that the other sides are only getting reduced time this season only is dramatic. As I said, Ladrien and MC always got the short end of the stick. And you could argue MC has gotten its normal amount of content this season. They always get an episode a season. Ladrien hasn't had a designated episode since s3, so it not having much isn't new to this season, nor is it the fault of Adrinette being together. (The writers just know they're too powerful so they have to nerf them) LN has only slightly reduced screen time in comparison to previous seasons. Seriously, people are blowing it way out of proportion. Like if we were to graph the attention given to each side from s1-4 you'd probably end up with 55% LN, 40% Adrinette, then 5% split between MC and Ladrien. Obviously it's not an exact measurement, I'm not going to go count every second of screentime and make a number accurate graph, but in s5 it's more like 55% Adrinette, 40% LN, 4.5% MC and .5% Ladrien. LN hasn't lost that much screen time, in fact they pretty much just swapped with Adrinette. They still get a lot, seriously people forgot about the first half of this season that still focused on them quite a bit. They still have had some good moments together. People are just mad they've moved on with each other I might add. No one batted an eye for the last 4 seasons or claimed it wasn't fair to Adrinette to get less screen time than LN.
It's been like 10 episodes since Adrinette officially got together. Not to mention, it would be kinda weird if they didn't pay attention to it or give it more focus than the other sides right now seeing as they are together. 🤨 This is the season that finally progressed something with their relationship. Things weren't going to stay the same forever, and honestly, people were complaining the entire time they weren't together too bc everyone wanted something to happen. Damned if they do, damned if they don't. People weren't happy either way, and truthfully, I don't think they ever will be. 🤷‍♀️
As for shit people say about Ladrien, all of that is not new nor exclusive to what is happening this season. They've said that since s1, so it has nothing to do with Adrinette being canon. I recommend you just block people that are stupid and who say stupid things 😂

I love seeing all the heteros in the Stranger Things fandom get obsessively mad at queer people for shipping queer relationships and calling us delusional for favoring and hoping for more/better queer representation in mainstream media. /s
Tumblr media
Yes, this about "Blyer," (Will Byers & Mike Wheeler) but this also applies to basically any show with queer side characters, and/or heavily queer undertones placed on main characters without the writers ever actually confirming or denying anything.
More often than not, the conclusions of these stories leave much of their queer audiences feeling as though they've been "queer-baited." This typically occurs by way of the writers sabatoging any hope of queer (or even questionably queer) characters finding romantic satisfaction, happiness or peace.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course, not all stories are made to have happy endings; however, there's a longstanding history of the gays getting the short end of everything in direct comparison to all the hetero characters/romances in the exact same series/film.
Then there's the other issue that arises when a character's sexuality is never confirmed or denied, leaving much of their queer audiences feeling like they've been made out to be fools for having the gall to even think a character may not be written in such a way that reads as "heterosexual."
Tumblr media
How easily ppl forget that queer audiences are all too familiar with getting told that we're spending too much time "reading inbetween the lines" because for so long that was all we could do.
And now that showcasing queer stories has become more mainstream, straight ppl still wanna get mad about it . . . as if there isn't a longstanding history of hetero "happy endings" constantly and continuously being prioritized over any and all potentional queer romance.
Tumblr media
It's so rare for us to witness popular scifi/fantasy genres in media do us ANY justice. So, like, excuse us for hoping to be proven wrong & actually witness queer romantic feelings between characters become canon ??? /s
Let alone actually getting the chance to see openly queer romance between two main characters play out on screen AND lead towards a happy, healthy, and/or remotely satisfying conclusion by the end of it all.
And then, to our monumental disappointment, when canon queer relationships are represented in popularized mainstream media, it's typically starring side-characters with little to no development or significant stake in the main storylines.
That's not to say that this makes the representation bad by default. After all, of course we'd rather see queer characters on screen than none it all . . . But that also doesn't mean we shouldn't ever expect better either, because guess what?
We. Deserve. Better.
Tumblr media
So, when all is said and done, of course our community is doomed to romantically ship characters that the writers will never have guts to develop romantically into canon, because quite honestly . . . same-gender "friendships" played-out on-screen, more often than not, end up having far better emotional stakes and make more sense to develop romantically, than most of the canon queer relationships we will ever get.
Tumblr media
The point: Just let queer ppl enjoy fictional character development the way we want to, regardless of whether or not our stories ever become canon. It's really not anyone's damn place to tell us otherwise.

FUCK IT here's the stupid dilf twinks + their adoptive children + context to this nobody asked for
The idea is their plural asses were raised in a superhero city but at a time that plurality was demonized (not that it isn't by the time Amethyst and Remix exist tbqf),
We kind of half-ripped parts of the powers Empathy from The Aspects (book two) has where if they're around people for any amount of time their general physique starts to shift and an overlay occurs where they're still themselves but like...identity crisis because they have a "veil" of anyone and everyone they see even if it's just on television down to their skills, which can kind of be handy but also suck a lot sometimes
BUT BUT BUT
Because they're plural they can just stabilize themselves. So Black Star (left) actually looks like Bright Dawn (right) to the outside world and it causes all of this dysphoria not to mention when they were nineteen they could've been hatecrimed!! Murdered!! You see!!! So they had to also figure out various ways to pass as singlet while maintaining their secret super hero stuff on top of that, try not to get institutionalized at best, etc etc etc
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So what happens is like
One day they see this little homeless kiddo in the middle of the street basically just becoming a massive amalgamation of everyone's face and/or rapidly changing faces because Halycon is a Massive Fucking City so Black Star and Bright Dawn kind of go "Oh Shit we should probably take this kid in" thinking she's just a singlet and that they can just teach them simplified methods of their own thing that's going on and everything will be fine and dandy,
they can continue pretending to be singlets and whoever is doing the saving the day thing will depend on who's fronting and they can just...switch to the "default" guy or whatever when interacting with Amethyst, stating the reason they look so different when in their super-powered magical boy form is because they have a mental representation in their brain that does the work for them to keep them stabilized, nothing much really —
Alas, this was never meant to be
Because
Amethyst (left) has a secret sibling. In her head. Called Remix (right).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Amethyst took this advice very literally, and that is how BS/BD now have a "oh, double fuckshit" situation on their hands. Black Star and Bright Dawn share the literal exact same body elasticity powers as this other system and didn't even realize they were a system until the moment they learned to stabilize their face and entire body basically just a little too fast.
"What do you MEAN the self-representation isn't supposed to be autonomous?!" And so it's like. Their own faults because they're the ones who advised, and then asked how Amethyst learned as fast as she did.
And they're absolutely convinced it is much safer for Amethyst and Remix to keep their multiplicity on the downlow so they also at least have somewhat of a chance to make it until 40 years old.
Amethyst and Remix, obviously, do not like the idea of pretending they're anything but a system and at the time the game is being played, they're reaching a bit of a breaking point with BS/BD where there's all of this tension
Because Amethyst and Remix hate any advice BS/BD has to give now regarding how to do anything and they think BS/BD are being overly harsh
But Black Star and Bright Dawn literally are like "these are our children we understand this line of work is dangerous, but it's going to be even worse if they keep doing this and being open about their existence," and are really seriously convinced what they are trying to say/do/etc. is in the best interests of this tiny system they've basically raised since like, elementary school or whatever
NOW UH
THE PART WHERE BS/BD ARE DILF TWINKS
The "twink" part of that is because Black Star chose magical-boy-esque costumes to fit the more unique facet of their system's superpower (impossible fighting skills/superhuman physique...we think it was the latter?) when both of them were like, 19 years old, thinking it would just work out and they'd look different enough from their civilian clothing. And just....neither of them realizing they would be stuck with those uniforms forever. :'D
These MFs have been heros long enough they are. Mentoring. Another not-even-19 year old system.
We imagine the superhuman physique aspect of this plus their body elasticity (the definition of which we stretched to hell and back to justify how we plan to play this Masks RPG game for both this NPC system and our PC system) would make it fucking unusual but entirely possible they look waaaaay younger than they actually are as a result
And to add insult to injury they have a magical boy transformation so like, even the like one or two people who would even know they're a system would have no fucking clue which one of them is Black Star and which one is Bright Dawn because the flashing pretty lights or whatever would just fuck with a normal person's senses. :D It's perfect for them. :D
We imagine, if it gets approved by the rest of the players, BS/BD are like those MFers who are like, super strong and like they're super well-known for that mostly but also, for some godforsaken reason, they absolutely slay in their outfits so they have these groups of fangirls or whatever (even better and much funnier in our heads if the groups are like, "rivals" or whatever) that fuckin' can't stop talking about them, so Remix and Amethyst keep getting clocked as asexual because of shit like:
"Omg did you see Bright Dawn's latest appearance???"
"...fighting crime is a very serious job you know..." *Amethyst trying not to tell this person/friend/whatever BD is literally their impromptu parent....and also that is BS, not BD, so she's now trying not to drop anything about their multiplicity per their request...they might both be annoying but they still raised her y'know*
"OH so you're more of a Black Star fan??? That's fucking ridiculous he's way too edgy and what is with that fucking hat, fighting style is soooo ugly too like who even taught the mothe —"
*at this point Amethyst just fuckin' tunes it out, she's heard it ALL at this point* Mate, I'll tell ya what, I'm just not into EITHER of them.
It would probably do literally nothing to the plot for the RPG we think but would add some very funny flavoring to the game we would appreciate haha.
"Why are these twin headmates so fleshed out and not your player characters Rusanya," well, we're glad you asked — you see, these two are called backstory characters and we NEED them fleshed out for the purposes of the RPG and that means we need to know how they think, especially if they're the mentors to our player characters Amethyst and Remix.
Amethyst and Remix, on the other hand, their purpose is literally to be fleshed out as we play our game with our friends, so like, of course they won't be as fleshed our currently. They're like literal teenagers if that and also our player characters.
AND YES ALL IMAGES WERE MADE IN A PICREW. THIS ONE AND THEN THIS ONE.
We tried to infodump about all of this to our braindbody's 55 year old mother, who somehow caught the word "twins" from all of this even though we think it's pretty clear it's not QUITE twins. Which. On one hand that is sad, but on the other hand Thank God.

2022 Games of the Year
Hello everyone! 2022 is officially in the can, so it's time for me to rank my top 10 favorite games that I played this year. Here are the groundrules:
Any game I played and finished (whatever that means for each game) this year for the first time. Games that I have played before but only finished this year for the first time are eligible.
If I don't finish a game during the year, as long as I finish it before the end of January and a majority of the playtime was in the last year, it counts.
Ports, remasters, and alternate editions of a game count as the same game, but full remakes do not.
Only one game per series. Same franchise but different series is okay.
Without further ado, let's take a look at my favorites this year!
10. Resident Evil Village (2021)
Tumblr media
Genre: Survival Horror Developer: Capcom Publisher: Capcom System Played On: PS5
Everyone's favorite giant undead mommy makes 2021's followup to Resident Evil VII a chilling adventure. Unfortunately, I wish Lady Dimitrescu and her mansion comprised more of the game, instead of being relegated to merely the first third. However, we did get the genuinely horrifying basement area immediately after. All in all, a fun survival horror romp that brings Ethan Winters's story to a close. I'm excited to see what the Resi franchise does next, as it's clear they've got their mojo back.
9. Catherine Fullbody (2019)
Tumblr media
Genre: Puzzle Developer: Atlus Publisher: SEGA System Played On: PS5
In this enhanced port of 2011's romantic survival puzzle game from Atlus (the creators of the Shin Megami Tensei franchise and the Persona series), you guide the hapless Vincent as he navigates the perilous waters of romance in the waking world and a devious climb up a wall of blocks each night in the dream world. While I hated Vincent at first, I liked that he can be redeemed by the end, based on your choices. The puzzle gameplay is also incredibly deep and punishing on harder difficulties. Unfortunately the game waits way too long to actually teach you proper strategies, but it's still fun nonetheless. The story has many more twists and turns than you would expect from the premise, too, and even includes some not-horrible queer representation, to my utter astonishment.
8. Final Fantasy VII Remake (2020)
Tumblr media
Genre: Action RPG Developer: Square Enix Business Division 1 Publisher: Square Enix System Played On: PS5
I've been a casual fan of FFVII for years now, and this year I finally got around to playing the remake after a replay of the original. While there are a few rough edges (unnamed NPCs all have the exact same face, for example), it's a really fun take on the FFVII story that really digs deep on some of the plot points that went by a little quick in the original. Of course, this only covers the events in Midgar in the beginning of the original game, and a sequel is due to follow someday. Most notably, Remake makes changes to the story that has me eager to see where it will lead. The action combat is fun as well, and I enjoyed being able to control and customize all the main characters.
7. Eastward (2021)
Tumblr media
Genre: Adventure Developer: Pixpil Publisher: Chucklefish System Played On: Xbox Series X
Eastward is an incredibly moving adventure game starring John, the silent-but-reliable protagonist, and Sam, his mysterious child sidekick, as they make their way inexorably eastward across a land ravaged by a mysterious Miasma, meeting all sorts of wacky people who are doing their best to survive. The game features a Zelda-like play style, but with an art style and melancholy tone that occasionally can be quite humorous reminiscent of Mother 3. The game is gorgeous, charming, and often heartbreaking. Unfortunately, I found the story was a tad on the obtuse side, and I wished the ending and some of the behind-the-scenes events had been explained a bit more clearly.
6. Pokémon Violet (2022)
Tumblr media
Genre: Monster RPG Developer: Gamefreak Publisher: Nintendo System Played On: Switch
While I also finally played the previous generation's Sword version this year, I thought Violet (my choice of the two versions) edged it out. I want to say up-front, yes, it definitely has its faults. The game looks and runs like hot garbage, especially compared to other games on this list, and is sorely lacking post-game content, being the first Pokémon game in recent memory without a Battle Tower or equivalent. However, the open-world format, while a bit clumsy, fits the franchise well, and there are some honest-to-Arceus good story moments in these games, especially in the endgame. While the game could have benefited from an extra year of development and a more powerful console, I think it's still worth playing and beating.
5. Persona 4 Golden (2012)
Tumblr media
Genre: JRPG Developer: Atlus Publisher: SEGA System Played On: PC/Steam Deck
While I had played the original Vita version of P4G, I'm ashamed to say that I never actually finished! This year, I spent a ton of time getting to 100% completion across three playthroughs. While the game's abysmal handling of multiple queer characters is just as if not more painful today, I found the game to be a ton of fun, as protagonist Yu must investigate a series of paranormal murders in the small fictional Japanese pastoral town of Inaba, recruiting the help of eccentric classmates to infiltrate a bizarre TV world and rescue potential victims. Along the way you learn to use the various small-town amenities to aid you in your quest and become friends (and maybe even lovers) with various townsfolk. Compared to the later Persona 5, and especially Persona 5 Royal, I found P4G to be less hand-holding, trusting me more as a player to plan my limited time and resources. If you're a fan of JRPGs, Persona, or Shin Megami Tensei, this is a must-play.
4. Lost Judgment (2021)
Tumblr media
Genre: Action Developer: Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio Publisher: SEGA System Played On: PS5
2021's sequel to the Yakuza/Like A Dragon spinoff Judgment sees us once more follow loose cannon detective Yagami as he investigates a series of murders with strange connections to both a high school in Yokohama as well as a bizarre sexual harassment case in Shinjuku. As before, Yagami investigates by interviewing witnesses, following targets, and using a host of high-tech detective tools to find the truth. Of course, his fists and feet are also just as valuable, with the Yakuza franchise's staple brawling combat across multiple fighting styles in huge open cities. Also as expected of the Yakuza franchise, there is a king's ransom of side content both serious and lighthearted, particularly in the new school clubs which Yagami can participate in, from a skateboarding club where Yagami does his best Tony Hawk impression, to a robotics club where you take place in a strategic battle of the bots. My only gripe is that this sequel feels a bit less personal to the main characters, leaving Yagami feeling a bit like an outsider through the whole story, but still a great game that innovates on the Yakuza franchise.
3. Super Lesbian Animal RPG (2022)
Tumblr media
Genre: RPG Developer: Ponett (@slarpg) Publisher: Ponett System Played On: PC/Steam Deck
You ever have a story that comes out of nowhere and jaw-punches you with just how made-for-you it feels? While SLARPG may seem like just a cutesy RPG-maker game at first blush, this indie darling full of strong, complex, queer female characters really had me feeling seen as a queer female gamer, myself. The story is a heartwarming modern fantasy that focuses a ton on flawed characters learning to grow emotionally under the pressure of having to save the world. In addition, the combat system has a ton of unexpected depth with unique character abilities plus interchangeable spellbooks that each have their own abilities. Also, finally a game that will let the lesbians kiss! Ye gods that was so satisfying. My only complaints with the game are some inevitable RPG Maker jank (as a recovering RPG Maker veteran, myself), and the fact that the short-but-sweet runtime has left me rabid for more!
2. Digimon Survive (2022)
Tumblr media
Genre: Tactical RPG/Visual Novel Developer: Hyde Publisher: Bandai Namco System Played On: PC/Steam Deck
Digimon fans (of which I include myself) have been clamoring for a really good game for decades now, and I personally think Survive is it. The game features a cast of middle schoolers (notably older than Digimon's normal heroes) who find themselves stuck in a strange alternate world inhabited by spiritual monsters called Kemonogami (the titular Digimon), and must fight for their very survival and a chance to return home. The game's dark tone and moments of character growth were extremely moving and refreshing for Digimon, which usually caters to a much younger audience. Some may not care for the extensive Visual Novel content for the story or the tactics-lite combat system, but I found them both to be engaging, and I enjoyed both befriending all the characters and recruiting all monster species. The game has multiple endings to explore as well, the true ending only available on NG+. However I kind of felt like it made the alignment-based endings feel a bit moot. Still, this game is a triumph for the Digimon franchise and I really hope we'll see a Survive 2 someday.
Honorable Mentions
Before we get to the #1 spot, I'd like to take a moment to highlight some other games I played this year, from smaller indies to larger games that didn't quite make the cut, but still are worthy of your time:
Grapple Dog (PC) - Fun GBA-style action platformer with cute characters.
Echo Generation (Xbox) - Stranger Things-esque voxel RPG with tons of lo-fi 80s vibe.
Elec Head (PC) - Indie puzzle platformer where you toss around your battery-powered head to solve electricity puzzles.
Shin Megami Tensei IV (3DS) - Main-series SMT monster RPG with mind-bending story and world where you're forced to choose between law and chaos, but neither choice is truly right.
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax (PC) - Arcade fighter sequel to both Persona 3 and Persona 4 with a surprisingly deep and emotional story.
Shantae and the Seven Sirens (PC) - Indie darling Shantae is back on another adventure platformer on a sprawling island home to seven titular sirens who have gone missing.
Super Kiwi 64 (PC) - Tiny retro 3D collect-a-thon featuring a zippy little kiwi bird.
Rainy Season (PC) - Tiny story based game about being stuck inside your small Japanese house as a kid during a rainy day and using your imagination.
Lunistice (PC) - Retro 3D platformer with tons of PS1-era charm.
Crisis Core Reunion (PS5) - Remake of Final Fantasy VII's PSP prequel Crisis Core on modern consoles. Looking very smooth, but the new voice acting is a toss-up at best and still relies too heavily on the same grindy missions as the handheld original.
Civilization VI (PC) - I finally got into CivVI this year and may have developed an unhealthy addiction to this turn-based civilization building strategy icon.
The Complex: Found Footage (PC) - This creepy short walk through the infamous Backrooms is sure to send a chill down your spine.
And at last, here's the (probably unsurprising) game of the year!
1. Elden Ring (2022)
Tumblr media
Genre: Action RPG Developer: FromSoftware Publisher: Bandai Namco System Played On: Xbox Series X
As someone who is already a die-hard Souls fan, this is really a no-brainer. Elden Ring takes the legendary Souls formula and blasts it open to a massive open world. Somehow, eleven years after Skyrim started the open world craze, in an era where such games are passé, Elden Ring manages to create a triumph of tough-but-fair combat, deeply detailed vertical level design, and a subtle-but-deep world and lore. I've sunk hundreds of hours into this masterpiece of a game across multiple different playthroughs, each somehow still fresh and fun. This game will be a huge icon for many years to come, especially if From decides to create some DLC down the line.
So what do you think? Do you agree with my picks? Think some other games should be on the list? What were your favorite games this year? Let me know~!

Hi, I saw your post regarding "Servant of the Nation" and I have become interested a bit in the tv show as I learned that President Zelenskiy used to be a comedian before he became president. I'm a bit torn if it would be decent to watch a comedy with the current crisis going on. I stand very much with Ukraine and find President Zelenskiy to be so courageous and brave in such a horrifying situation. It's reminding me of the Cold War era and what happened in Bosnia and Georgia and I feel like some comedy could be good for the soul, but I worry that it's also not appropriate. I was curious to know your thoughts on it, if that's okay. I appreciate your time in reading this. Than you.
Hi!
I think watching the show is actually a good thing. It honors the people to experience something they've created. To see what their country was like in peacetime, to see their president, to listen to their language. If the worst case scenario happens (which I hope more than anything it does not!), their country and even their president may not exist anymore. Even at this point they have lost so much, so many lives lost, buildings damaged or destroyed. It's important to know and really feel what they lost, to be with them and mourn with them.
As long as people don't just treat it as a comedy and pretend the war isn't happening. Follow what is going on and don't just forget them. Personally, I have been following the war intensely for over a week. I didn't do much else besides watch videos, read articles, figure out ways I could help (except what I had to do like work which I don't have much of rn, the bare minimum of household chores etc). I would also lie awake at night unable to sleep because I kept thinking about it, making me even more tired. What I feel is of course nothing compared to what the people in Ukraine feel but... I can't go on like this indefinitely. Watching the show is something I can do which is not immersing in the constant barrage of info about the war while also focusing on something the country has created.
I think that art shouldn't be underestimated as a means of bringing people together. When you experience people's culture, you see from their point of view. You feel what they feel. They become your people. We are all the same--we all want freedom, we want to live our lives in peace, we want to have fun. But you can forget this when only watching from the outside. Or just not feel it as deeply. That's why it's important to experience other people's culture. Entertainment may seem like it's just for fun, but even within your own country, it is also a powerful vehicle for transmitting values etc. To outsiders, entertainment can show the perspective of the people who created it. You can learn a lot about someone else's country just by watching their shows. You often don't even realize you're learning something, but you're absorbing a complex web of information. If you come across something you don't understand, you may be inspired to look it up, thus learning more about the country. TV shows can also teach you about the language, which is especially helpful if you're learning it, or it can inspire you to learn it.
It's important not to just experience one aspect of culture, because you only get one small piece of the picture. And it's good to get point of view from real people, since entertainment isn't always an exact reflection of how people think or do things (for example, Hollywood isn't a really accurate representation of real America). And each person is unique of course. In this case, Ukrainians need concrete support more than they need people to watch their TV shows. But as long as you're not forgetting about what they're going through right now, and ideally helping if possible, there is nothing wrong with watching the show. It's better than watching some random comedy. You can learn about the country and the president, perhaps get insight into who he is and learn about their culture and appreciate their country. Perhaps if more people watch it they will be inspired to help because they see what is being attacked, what is being lost.

CHARACTER ASKSSS <33
for calipso, ymir and shou. you can pick and choose which you'd like to answer/leave out
4) How did you find the name for a certain character?
10) Do any of your OCs contain any symbolism in themselves/their story?
21) What is one of your character's biggest fears?
24) Are there any preexisting characters that your OC gets compared too a lot?
35) Which OC would beat you up if they met you IRL? -> Would this OC beat you up if they met you IRL? (i will kill them if so)
not too many questions, i hope you enjoy nevertheless <3
I've really enjoyed this and am glad, thank you so much again <3
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
4) How did you find the name for a certain character?
Shhdjskdj if I have to be honest, I chose Shou's name because of fantasy name generator 😭😭😭 LISTENN but I did modify It because It was "Shuu", and twisted It around and made another with the same pronounce.
Ymir's was because,, haha funny lesbian in aot that i luv sm and that looks very alike,,,
And I don't remember why Calipso. I just wanted to name someone like that wvhdjsj
10) Do any of your OCs contain any symbolism in themselves/their story?
OHHH DEFINETLY, ESPECIALLY SHOU AND CALIPSO hope i won't ramble too much (edit HOLY SHIT IM SORRY I'LLSGDGJST)
Edit: Shou's case is more of an oroborous so ty sm sunny for telling me
In Shou's case, It holds for the concept of not being able to search for help, nor being able to talk about himself. This grown even hate and disgust that got up in all these years, and has pretty much got the exact image of his snake self. Even that by itself Is sort of a representation of his mental state, which though he's gained 'control' over It, doesn't mean he's really behind that, at all. In fact, it's only gotten worse. And yet he doesn't show anything, because he has to keep that picture perfect image, and only few actually seeing through that and doing the best they can. But, he sort of hates that. He wants to resolve everything by himself like he's always had and, though he doesn't dislike help, he doesn't want to be fixed by It. Even in his group, Shou struggles a lot with his true intentions and thoughts, twisting them if that meant to seem more secure and cold. And though y'know yeah fuck It, even eating people Is part of it. Not the most part but, moreso the guilt of having soccombed so many lives for his own gain and having felt legit pleasure at times.. Needless to say that, him 200 years ago and him now are two very different people, almost opposites at that. And fuck i thik it's enough for nowhehdj
For Calipso's case, it revolves a shit ton on the concept of being left alone. I haven't gotten their post ready yet but, let's just say that he doesn't have the best experience with it. But I think the most important part Is legit their and Ymir's meeting after he becomes a Reeder in order to save her. To clarify, Ymir didn't know they've done to save them so, It was just a misunderstanding for some time. Plus, she was quite frankly horrified and, this close onto walking away. To which, Calipso was even more anxious and panicked, because Ymir Is the one who's ever wanted to stay among them. And her leaving him, would lead to nothing but a deep sense of emptyness. Now, don't count that later on this gets resolved well and they bond again, but they basically resemble that fear of being left alone because of your changes. Which I've realized it's kinda what happened w me but i digress, ive self projected on them too. I'm sparing ya onto talking about Ymir cus this Is pretty long by itself
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
21) What is one of your character's biggest fears?
Since I've talked a lot of Calipso n Shou, one of Ymir's biggest fears is having someone they care for to die because of her. They don't want to be the reason for someone's death, and would try to do her best to not have someone lost again.
They also have an irrational fear of spiders and thunderstorms, though the second one Is because of how many times she's been left alone, in the cold and night.
24) Are there any preexisting characters that your OC gets compared too a lot?
I don't think so?? If someone wants to compare em then sure but, most I've seen Is Rui bein compared to Ruri purely aesthetic wise sohsgdjsj
35) Which OC would beat you up if they met you IRL? -> Would this OC beat you up if they met you IRL? (i will kill them if so)
CAPABILITY WISE, they all could, no doubts.
But I think the only one who would actually try to beat me up would be Ymir. If I stand in her way id stand in her way y'know, and though they wouldn't definetly kill me, id still get beaten up.

Today was a rough one. In no way has it been bad, but it's been a lot.
Wednesdays are my weekly collection release days. Because of my schedule I haven't set an exact time for my releases, but they always happen.
There was so much to be done today and if I'm being honest not everything got done. The chores at my house remain neglected as I focused purely on the release, laundry, and social interactions.
(No, not in person, these are still COVID-times.)
Despite being fairly simple, it takes quite a lot of work and a good amount of touch to get everything ready for a release, so where as that did take a good bit of time, I did have one particular conversation today that lasted over an hour.
Oh, and when I say laundry, I mean I did two weeks worth of clothes and my bedding, so it was an all day thing.
These lengths of conversations aren't uncommon in my life. I have such wonderful, beautiful, talented friends and they all deserve my full attention.
Now you may be wondering who grabbed so much attention from me today. It was the beautiful wife of the man I've been seeing recently.
I can imagine out of context that may sound very scary, however we're all polyamorous and in no way was this some sort of confrontation.
Both her and her husband are such wonderful and beautiful people. They're strong, disciplined, sexy, successful, smart, inspiring, and well aligned. (Not to mention they're also cat people!)
It wasn't until here recently that she had reached out to me through one of the social medias. Since they're newer to the lifestyle I wanted her to be comfortable enough before talking to me, so I hadn't reached out myself.
Besides, it had only been a couple of dates and I know it's hard dating in the poly community when you live in a conservative state. It's much better to be apprehensive at first in these kinds of situations. Just like dating in any situation, many people are just not the right fit. Until someone that does fit well into your dynamic comes along it can be quite discouraging.
I've had so many crazy experiences with polyamory. Whether my own or just stories from my poly peers. Everything from someone claiming polymory as a way to cheat on their spouse to, despite clearly defined boundaries, trying to break marriages.
It saddens me that we don't get to hear about healthy poly relationships very much. It's such a magical thing to experience. When everyone loves each other and everyone's boundaries are not only communicated, but respected.. I can't even begin to describe the level of uplifting it is.
All this said, just as healthy polyamory tends to do, they've inspired me. I have an idea for a book that I want to write. Something to bring more representation and light to both polyamory and nonbinary. (Which is what I identify as. Pronouns do not matter to me: they/she/he.)
Though I'm not sure how to tell them that they've inspired this within me (because I want this to book to be about a relationship developing well into long term polyamory and I don't want them to feel any pressure that the book is about them specifically), I am thankful and grateful for that spark needed to ignite those passionate ideas that writers stay up too late writing about.
Thank you both, I am so lucky.

BTS Paved the Way
Guys this is huge! Not only have BTS been nominated for a 3rd year for Top Social Artist, but they have made history yet again by rightfully earning a second nomination for Top Group/Duo!
Do you understand what the significance of that is? It means that 7 boys, who were once total strangers, courageously made the decision to endure hours of gruelling training, countless years of hate-filled commentary, and their own personal sacrifices in order to form this incredible and inspirational phenomenon, as well as become undeniable global superstars, and because of all their success, plus ARMY's undying love/support, BTS have now played this huge part in helping to pave the way for other Korean and Asian artists who wish to transition into Western media. It's mind-blowing when you think about it.
A couple years ago when BTS was first introduced to the Billboard stage, there were many who reacted in a negative and harsh manner. You see, some believed that the nomination was not fair and either the boys wormed their way into the line-up due to simply a popularity contest, basically saying that they were piggy-backing off the K-Pop industry's existing fame, or, others felt that because of the simple fact they didn't sing complete English versions of their songs, that somehow proved they had no place being involved anywhere near the category they would eventually come to win. Although both outlooks are equally misconstrued in their own ways, I guess there could be some sound arguments to the whole thing.
Now in no way am I agreeing with these opinions, but it is true that BTS had been growing in popularity by the time they received their first BB nomination for Top Social Artist, and this fact probably did end up playing a huge part in why the boys took home the title; however, that doesn't discredit the unfathomable amounts of hard work and passion that was put into every song, album, MV, and stage performance. I think it's pretty clear by now how much planning and effort BTS incorporates with their music, so why shouldn't all of it be rewarded with something meaningful? The award was beyond deserved.
So anyways, flash foward to the next year when BTS found themselves winning yet again for Top Social Artist and the reception was a little less hostile. By this time, Love Yourself: Tear had been gaining love and the album's title song FAKE LOVE had been soaring across the charts. More and more people were becoming fans and the boys began to feel even more love from a combination of both old and new ARMYs. Of course you can't have success without at least some haters, so when BTS did manage to win Top Social Artist for consecutive years, beating out fan favorites and huge contenders, there were those who blamed the Western music industry for "pandering" to outside influences in order to make themselves look good and save face. So due to this reaction, ARMY also came under fire and some even went so far as to start calling us toxic and spiteful, saying that we would slander anyone who voted against or didn't openly support our boys. Although this did happen in some cases, those who chose to act this way were, in fact, not part of the ARMY at all, and instead provided a twisted version of what we are really about. But let me remind you that this is happens with everyone, ARMY are not exclusive in this problematic situation.
Ok, so with that thought aside, let skip ahead to the true reason I decided to write this. So it has been recently announced that BTS have not only been nominated for Top Social Artist for 3 consecutive years, but also they have earned their first nomination that requires more than just a "popularity vote". Being chosen as a nominee for Top Group/Duo means that the music is the main focus, which in turn means that people are now being asked to recognition the importance of BTS as genuine artists and not just 7 pretty faces. That's amazing!
As sad as it is, it's true that Asian artists don't receive as much credibility as American artists when it comes to our country's music industry; that why with this nomination, I'm hoping that BTS could be the catalyst that changes that for the future and for future aspiring Asian artists as well. The above article expands on this when it says,
"...It also reflects the way critics don't think work from boy bands merit serious analysis, let alone the music of Asian artists, who still are underrepresented in the American music industry. This nomination feels like a big step. While their nomination is based on streams and airplay, and not critical praise per se, it shows that fans care about BTS' music as much as they care about their personalities. And when the industry truly understands that (as we saw happen with boy bands dating all the way back to The Beatles), it is a stepping stone to more respect from the industry and critics."
As a supporter of these boys and as an ARMY myself, I can't help but to become emotional while writing this. I keep thinking about how much I know this achievement means and how many years of struggles, doubts, hardships, and trials these boys had to go through to reach this exact moment. I realize for some it might not seem like much, a smaller achievement on the grand scale of everything BTS have going for them as of right now, but this is truly a monumental moment for them. When it comes to K-Pop, there are some bands who have allowed their style and sound to be transformed by outside opinions and criticisms; however, one of the aspects that I respect BTS the most for is their grounded beliefs and the fact that they refuse to let themselves be influenced or manipulated by others. They understand that music is universal, and that no matter the language, if the sound and message is important enough people will listen. They've been doing this from their debut and they will continue to til the very end. BTS are from South Korea, therefore they are going to sing in their native tongue. Yes they might incorporate some English words here and there, but Namjoon has expressed multiple times that, although they do appreciate the advice, BTS will never release a full English album. I would never expect such a thing either and I think it is very commendable for them to say this. I don't think people from different countries should have to cater to the will of Americans, I believe instead, we should appreciate those who are willing to share their language, their culture, and their hearts with us and accept it for what it is. When I see how strongly BTS have chosen to stick to their roots, it gives me even more of a genuine vibe from them. Anyone who listens to their music will see right away that they know who they are, they are confident in their message, and that not even the language barrier can destroy that. They have not worked years practicing and perfecting their craft just to have complete strangers tell them how they should and shouldn't act or speak. This Top Group nomination is blatant proof of that, and the fact that both EXO and GOT7, two other successful Korean groups, are also among the talent to be nominated this year for Top Social Artist is beautiful in its own right. Asian representation is here to stay; recognize it and respect it. ✌
Congrats again to BTS for earning such a monumental nomination and for making history yet again! You 7 never fail to amaze me 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
