Toxic Individualism In Modern Witchcraft
The modern witchcraft movement is very much a product of the 20th century, and one thing it picked up from that was a pretty individualist way of thinking. This isn't all bad, since it helped normalize people being allowed to do spirituality in a way that truly resonated with them, rather than following whatever an institution prescribed for them.
But as many of us know, western individualism comes with a lot of really toxic shit, encouraging and even enshrining apathy, cruelty, and social Darwinism. This, unfortunately, is very much an attitude you occasionally see within modern witchcraft.
This is sometimes expressed through a "let 'em sink or swim" attitude. For example, you might see people bristle at the idea of warning people about dangers such as toxic plants; "well, they should know to just research this themselves, if they get hurt, that's their own faults." Never mind that most of us live in a socioeconomic environment where "natural" tends to be equated with "safe," and few people were taught any real amount of research skills. (Most people don't know how to research beyond "type a thing into Google and click the first link" or "watch a video on YouTube and follow the algorithm.")
There's this sort of idea that witchcraft and the occult is this kind of Darwinian proving ground. You're either just born having what it takes, or you're not. Supposedly, there's no need to warn people about red flags, fascist rhetoric, pseudohistory, or anything, because supposedly, the "worthy" will just be able to find their own way on their own. Anyone who doesn't make it? Anyone who ends up poisoning themselves or falling down the alt right pipeline or abused by a predator? Couldn't be helped; they were never "meant" for this path anyway. It was simply too much for them. Why, if you really think about it, it was their own faults for daring to reach above the station they were born for, anyway.
This is a completely irrational view, because it's simply not how things work. People aren't born having research skills, critical thinking skills, or knowing the difference between real history and pseudohistory; they're taught these things. And some people are statistically much less likely to receive a good education than others. There are a few people who beat the odds and end up better educated than most people in their socioeconomic status, but this doesn't mean that they were born with inherent greatness; it just means that they were curious and lucked out in finding the right materials.
As many of us also know, Victorian-era eugenicists believed that members of the upper class were just inherently better. They had the genes for intelligence and strength of will. (Yeah, that whole modern occult fixation with willpower has some dodgy origins, too.) They just ignored that whole thing where they lived in a socioeconomic system designed to keep most people in poverty. If they ever saw someone beat the system, they attributed it to that person being born exceptional for some reason. I would highly recommend that anyone who hasn't done so already watch Shaun's video, The Bell Curve, which criticizes the book by the same title that effectively tries to argue for Victorian-age eugenics, to get a better picture of this whole thing.
Toxic individualism also encourages thinking of individuals as main characters on some kind of hero's journey, where every pain they suffer and every mistake they make is a vitally important part of their journey and growth; so much so that any effort to prevent them from making mistakes or suffering harm is hindering their personal growth.
Sure, people do often gain valuable insight from their mistakes and suffering. But it's absurd to claim that this is always the best way for people to learn and grow, especially if there's a risk of serious harm for themselves or others. Certainly it's much better to learn from a friendly Tumblr post that essential oils can give you chemical burns or harm your pets than experience it first-hand. And it's much better to learn what far right rhetoric looks like beforehand so you can recognize it when you first see it, rather than get drawn into some far right belief system and perpetuate harm on vulnerable minorities for any amount of time. (This whole thing of acting like you're life's main character and other people are basically just NPCs on some hero's journey that you imagine yourself to be on is so immensely fucked up.)
And finally, if anybody out here finds themselves thinking, "but nobody should expect help from others; after all, I didn't get any!", I'm gonna tell you: it shouldn't have been that way. You didn't not get help because that's just how the world works; you didn't get help because that's how modern western socioeconomics are created to work. Toxic individualism is a construct, and it's one that we can dismantle and replace with something better.

Do any of the ibvs characters do any specific classes? Like which language studies do they do or if they do any AP classes and whatnot. I know this may come up in the story, but I also know these teenagers are too busy dealing with supernatural threats to be talking about normal stuff like school.
honestly at this point it's a running joke that the story never addresses their classes. we know isaac and drew do french, chris and nevin do spanish (nevin is doing spanish because it's easy credit, go figure). everyone's obviously stuck in yearly typical requirements (y'know, math, english, science, etc). but here are my thoughts about it, liable to change if necessary:
• because cody is the Math Guy, I feel like he's doing a calculus class • louis is probably one of those kids who has way too many AP classes • isaac's doing art APs, but only because his parents talked him into it • edward is probably doing one or two, I just have no idea what they should be. maybe a government class? • barry's definitely in AP biology • nevin wants to go to culinary school, so he's probably not wasting time on APs. I feel like drew hasn't signed up for any either. and chris hasn't, he's just trying to get through school • I imagine niki being in too many as well. maybe not a louis amount but she's probably in government, psychology, maybe history • I would bet that felix is also in government. because of course he is. maybe that's this picture (edward you fool, maybe you do share a class with him) • characters I'm not sure about: dez, justin, stacy and everyone else
I have feelings about real life absurd high school workloads in the US and the expectations to do AP everything put on kids for no reason, but this is a funny story where classes and workloads are imaginary, so I won't get into it.

Title: Michael Singer & the Heroic Happily Ever After
Author: darcydelaney
Artist: Marvfortytwo
Rating: Mature
Pairings: Dean/Castiel
Length: 27000
Warnings: No archive warnings apply
Tags: The Lost City movie AU, writer Castiel, cover model Dean, Castiel POV, thinly veiled bitterness over finale, there was only one hammock, happy ending
Posting Date: October 19, 2023
Summary: When struggling writer Castiel Novak’s father disappears, Castiel inherits his cult classic “Michael Singer” book series. Following a disastrous first panel of a new book tour with Dean Winchester, the series’ cover model (and big-time fan of both the books and, well, Castiel himself), Castiel decides that he’s going to end the series by killing off the title character, much to Dean’s dismay.  Shortly after said panel, Castiel is kidnapped by Arthur Ketch, who has discovered that Castiel’s father had been using real supernatural folklore in his book series, and wants Castiel to help him figure out the spell for eternal life by using his father’s work. Dean sets out on a mission to rescue Castiel, win his heart, and maybe even save his favorite book series in the process.
Excerpt: To Castiel’s surprise, he’s already got a few hundred followers. He taps over to the list of the four accounts he’s following: his agent, Angel of Thursday Publishing, what appears to be a bot devoted to posting snippets of his father’s previous books, and— “Dean Winchester, keep that wig on your head before I staple it there.” Castiel looks up to see the series’ cover model standing in the doorway of the hotel suite, dressed in well-fitting jeans—too well-fitting, if Castiel is being honest—and a forest green henley, a long blonde wig clutched in one hand. His breath catches in his throat. Castiel has to give Angel of Thursday credit: aside from his hair, Dean is a picture-perfect depiction of Michael Singer, the lead character in his Michael Singer series. Well, not really his, he supposes; it’s his father’s, but just like his beat-up gold Lincoln Continental, the ramshackle house that’s seen better days, and the frankly incredible amount of debt racked up from self-medication, takeout, and failed writing fellowship application fees, his father had passed it on to Castiel before promptly dropping off the face of the earth. Following the adventures of Michael through all things haunted and heroic as he fights against supernatural malpractice and devastation, Michael Singer began as a way for Castiel’s father to pass the time when Castiel was an infant. He’d pour himself a cup of coffee, plop Castiel down on his knee, and bounce him up and down as he wrote, all while simultaneously dragging Michael to hell and back—more often than not, literally. “It’s itchy and it makes me look like a fucking Hemsworth,” Dean grumbles, tossing the wig to the side and dropping down onto the couch in Castiel’s suite. “Hey, Cas.” “H-hello, Dean.” Dean looks at him, mouth twisted into a crooked little grin, and winks. “There’s nothing wrong with looking like a Hemsworth, sweetie,” Anael says. Castiel would never say it aloud, but Dean looks better than a Hemsworth, with or without the absurd wig he’s been forced to wear. In Castiel’s opinion, Dean’s always looked better than a Hemsworth, ever since he’d first been hired as the Michael Singer cover model.  With a jaw that has Castiel’s gut doing somersaults and strong, broad shoulders that pair perfectly with a slim waist, as well as striking green eyes that can convey entire sentences, if not paragraphs, in a single expression, Dean Winchester must have been born to one day grace the cover of supernatural romance novels. He fits right in among the dramatic, stock-photo backgrounds and large, golden typeset of the titles on each cover, but now that Castiel’s in charge of Michael and his looks, maybe he could throw Dean a metaphorical bone. Maybe he could make it canon that Michael gets a much more practical haircut for monster hunting; surely that would give Dean a break (and hopefully put Castiel in his good graces).

man, i have so many thoughts about qfoolish. he's just a silly little goofy guy but then when you peel away the first layer that you see of him and realize that he's rather a complex character. I feel like he's such a different type of character than what is usually shown. (and honestly, it's something that brings me a lot of comfort as i relate quite heavily to his very laid back nature that people will sometimes take as being unserious or even uncaring) Warning, this gets long (like 2.2k long to be exact) lol and i ramble a lot- also, disclaimer for my own sanity: this is an analysis of the characters! i adore any of the creatures mentioned here so please don't take any of this as a negative view on them! :D
Foolish's motivations are just very different than what typically motivates a character forward and in some sense it's really easy to skew what you think about him. As in, it's really easy to misinterpret his character i think. He express himself in a different way than i think most people are used to. He laughs in serious situations and is constantly just joking around. I think this causes people to think he cant/wont ever be serious, but the thing is that he's perfectly capable of being serious when he needs to be. For example, if he thinks that he and Leo are going into a serious situation, then he tells her to put her armor on. Really, just anything involving Leo he makes sure to be serious if the situation calls for it. Or like, fighting in dungeons only if he deems it dangerous enough to take seriously. but like, if he doesn't think a situation calls for it, then he just continues to be his goofy self. And sometimes when the situation calls for it, he is just in between those two points in a way that others aren't. He's just not afraid to joke around even when the situation seems dire (cellbit's kidnapping and rescue comes to mind. like, he played such a large role with his symmetry wand, but despite all the serious moments going on,, he was still just a goofy guy).
And one thing about him being so silly all the time is that even the other members on the island sometimes get a misconstrued picture of what they think foolish's goal and wants are. I think in some sense it's true to say that what motivates his wants is what the value of something he perceives is. For example, the sunbird he only wanted because of how cool it sounded and how rare it was. The cloud he wants because its something unique and useful. He wants Cucurucho's friendship because that's something no one else has and Cucurucho has access to items and is powerful.
But these wants aren't the most necessarily the most important things to him. Their something he has interest in, yes, but they're not more important than say his friends and family. Which, i feel like some people might not recognize about him. After all, he is constantly talking about wanting a cloud or how he'd have no issue in killing Bad (and holy shit is landduo and their relation something i could go on about for a whole more hour cuz there's so much there)
Because one vital thing that's so *so* important to recognize is that Foolish is very possibly one of the most loyal people on the island. And despite all of his flaws, he would never really want to truly hurt those he cares about. He is loyal to the people he cares about to an absurd amount. I think it's very clear to see his devotion for Vegetta and his adoration for Leo, but his loyalty also applies to his friends on the island. He would never *intentionally* want to harm anyone he cares about. I don't think some people understand that Mr. Mustard fell under that category as someone he cared about. The entire reason Cucurucho was able to lure him into accepting the mission It gave him is because it brought Mr. Mustard's name into the mix. It told Foolish that Pac and Mike were the ones responsible, and with nothing better to do, Foolish set out to complete this task.
To talk more about the recent events with him arresting Tazercraft: he would never truly want to harm or hurt them. However, when you're looking at the grand scheme of how things went down, he was manipulated and really had no other choice. Sure, he seemed to enjoy arresting them at first, but the thing is I don't think he really processed or even thought about how this action would be received by others. To him, arresting Pac and Mike sounded like enough fun, and it was coming from Cucurucho (who he's wanting to be friends with for actual months now, and Cucurucho literally called him friend in the book it handed to him) and being arrested sounded like something he'd enjoy. Again, like something *he'd* enjoy and that he therefore thought Pac and Mike would enjoy.
You have to realize, Foolish doesn't have the same perspective on these serious situations as some others do. And the thing is that he judges how others react based on how he would react to them. So, in that sense, he views being kidnapped/arrested as a good and fun thing! he even said today on stream, "apparently when you arrest someone, others won't find it funny". it might have just been one line, but in my eyes this gives a really clear insight into his character. To him, arresting Pac and Mike was only a positive thing because it would help him find his friend and it could be a fun event for them. His friend that he was told, by cucurucho, that had disappeared because of Pac and Mike. Foolish doesn't hold any ill intent, but that doesn't necessarily come across in others view of him. Although it might not be clear, he cares about Pac and Mike. Today he even expressed worries about them and said that he still considers them his friends (even though he's aware that they might not share those feelings about him anymore). He doesn't know about their past traumas, to him this was just a fun little event that would be fun for both them and him. When first accepting Cucurucho's mission to him, I'd say he doesn't realize the consequences his actions would have. That by arresting Pac and Mike, it'd leave the other members of the server doubting him and mistrusting him. That others would be angry at him for something that he hadn't realized the gravity of.
(just random thing i want to say here: honestly, if Foolish had any malicious intent towards Tazercraft, he could have easily made their arrest go unnoticed for at least a few days. just think about it: if he had said that the surprise he had was just for the two of them. if Jaiden hadn't accompanied them as a witness. people wouldn't of known then what happened to them, but the thing is that he wasn't thinking in this way because he would never seriously want to harm them. he even wanted Jaiden there as a witness)
I think he realized the backlash of his actions in the Favela when everyone seemed to swarm him and then when he got interrogated. In which, he never really lied. All things considered, Foolish is a rather honest guy. I'd even say that he almost never lies. Like, if he's trying to hide the truth about something, he often times will find a way to skirt around the question without lying. Like, just looking at the mess that was the interrogation yesterday (/lh) you can see that he doesn't ever actually lie. He just blabbers a bunch of nonsense and skirts around the issue without ever revealing anything. The issue arises when you look at the lie he did tell.
for those that don't know, Foolish gave Jaiden a rundown of what happened before arresting Tazercraft. and in this he tells her that Cucurucho gave him the option to either 'arrest Pac and Mike' or to 'kill Richarlyson'. Not even going to lie, when he said this is took me (and i think all of stream) off guard. because Foolish practically never lies in that way and so blatantly. because this was just 100% untrue. However, it makes sense why he did it. At that point, he realized that people were going to keep badgering him on why he arrested Pac and Mike, but at the same time he knew they wouldn't take him telling the truth seriously. He may care about Mr. Mustard but the truth is that the other members don't hold those same thoughts towards most the Capybaras in general. Like, just look at Fit's interaction with him today. Foolish literally reiterated the truth of why he did it over and over again, but Fit didn't believe him even slightly. Foolish didn't lie once about his motivations and yet he was just not believed.
I think he realized at some point soon after arresting Pac and Mike that people weren't going to trust the truth. Not from his mouth at least. So he lied to Jaiden because it's a lie that people will easily understand. it's a choice they'd stop questioning him about. Again, he doesn't do this out of malicious intent but because it's something easier for people to understand and relate to. It's something they're not going to hound him about, not like they will when he tells them the truth. This lie is more easily digestible for the island members and it also brings Foolish less stress if they take this and believe it. Everyone is willing to make sacrifices in order to protect the eggs. And he had to of realized that Jaiden was going to tell other people. The islanders almost always spread these types of details to each other, that's just how it goes. Telling this lie to her in secret makes it all that more believable when she goes and tells some of the others about it later cuz it's something Foolish told her in confidentiality. To the other members, it paints foolish only in a good light. Of course he wouldn't have actually wanted to arrest Pac and Mike, he did it to protect Richas! and that's all it takes to stop them from getting angry at him. All things considered, it's a smart move to pull. Although, I do have to wonder how this will come to bite foolish in the butt. Because i can only imagine that it will be revealed eventually, some way or another.
From what i understood, Cellbit immediately dropped his anger on Foolish once he was told it was to protect Richarlyson. When Jaiden tells him this information he doesn't even thing to consider that Foolish could have lied. After all, why reason would anyone have to lie about that? In my mind, i can only imagine that the lie will protect him for now and in the short term, but once revealed that it's a lie, i think there will be some repercussions against Foolish for sure. Like, even Jaiden doesn't know that he's lied. Jaiden, whom he's been telling everything about. Jaiden who is only one (aside from Leo) who now knows of Foolish's secret detective role. Jaiden, whose the one he's told almost the entire truth to.
An interesting thing to note though, is that I think Foolish's decision to lie to Jaiden was still rather spontaneous. like, it's not something he thought too much about. it's a fib that makes his life a little bit easier (a little bit less lonely) and right now it doesn't seem to hold any repercussions. the interesting thing, though, is that he hasn't repeated the lie at any point in time. and like, he also hasn't done any lying to reinforce the lie he's told. it'd be so easy to paint a story that he's being blackmailed, but he just *doesn't* even though it's a lie he's made himself.
Foolish, all in all, is someone that just acts or speaks before really thinking too much about what he's doing. About the possible side affects of his actions. He just *does* them.
I think it also plays in very well with the idea that he's lived for thousands of years. the things that affect the typical mortal just don't phase him in the same way, not when he's viewing everything as an adventure or an element that is fun. i think that also taking into consideration that he's lived for such a long time, it's rather surprising how easy he is to manipulate. Because that is what Cucucrucho is doing, when looking at the whole picture. cucurucho holds a lot of power and we all know that it easily could have arrested Pac and Mike without the intervention of Foolish. So why make him do it anyways?
Well we don't know that for sure, but we can make some guesses. To sow distrust between the members. To see how far Foolish was actually able and willing to go for the Federation. To place blame on someone aside from itself. All possibilities.
Regardless, Foolish has played right into their hands. He's a silly guy that's gotten himself into a serious situation. One in which he might end up having to navigate alone because even though he has Jaiden he's still lied to her, and even though he has Leo, he would never want to put his daughter into harms way. He said something at the end of the stream about how this might just end up being a lonely road he's taking and i couldn't agree more.
Anyways, that's all i got for tonight as it's late and idk what im getting at here, i just think Foolish is really neat and wanted to attempt to put that into words. :D

BONUS! MOD'S CHOICE POLL!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mod's Propaganda Under the Cut:
Judai:
Anyone who knows me knows that I am a Yu-Gi-Oh fan. For whatever reason, this series imprinted on me when I was a child and I just never let it go. I've watched the original series, season 0, GX, 5Ds, and Arc V, as well as read the original manga, the GX manga, and the Arc V manga, as well as watched all the movies. The point is: I like Yu-Gi-Oh. There are people who like it more than me, that have watched all the series and what not, but I think I still like it an absurd amount. And out of all the protagonists I know, Judai is my favorite. He's just so lovable, you can't help but like him! He's goofy, he's reliable, he's fun, he has a descent into madness, he's gay, what more could you want in a shounen protagonist? Though being sleepy isn't a major part of him, it's more of a gag of him slacking in class and always going to sleep, it's still super funny and I'm a little sad that he lost in Round 1, though I do like Sonic as well (who he lost to). Give the Slifer Slacker a chance!
Linhardt:
Considering Linhardt is my profile picture at the moment, I don't think I need to justify this too much. But I will anyway. Linhardt is the sleepy crest scholar. Although I will be the first to admit that I am not actually a Fire Emblem fan (and tbh I find the writing in Three Houses kind of bad) (sorry to those who enjoy it) I love Linhardt so much anyway. He's probably my favorite in that very large cost. I love that he's so unapologetically sleepy, like he doesn't care if you scold him to do work, he will do work on his own time. Not only that, but he's actually really smart and dedicated when he wants to be. Linny's friendship with Caspar is really nice, especially since I think someone needs to save Caspar from his awful dad & self-destructive tendencies. Plus, I really like his supports. Especially with Marianne, Hubert, and Edelgard. His supports with Dorothea in Three Hopes is also really nice.
Garfield:
It's Garfield. He's a classic comic. He's a classic meme. Little orange kitty. What more could you possibly want? I love Snoopy, but to be perfectly honest I think Garfield should have gotten as far as Snoopy.
Sleepytime Tea Bear:
Again. He's just a classic. What more would you want but a sleepy bear in pajamas on a chair?
Olruggio:
I'm a big Witch Hat Atelier fan and I love Olruggio. Like yes, I like Orufrey like everyone else, but I also just like Olruggio on his own. I like his scruffy little look and I love the fact that at first he is so intimating but almost immediately he's revealed to be a big softie. I love his light magic motif and I really think it's sweet that he made the thing to keep you warm when you sleep and gave it to the kids-- he's a FATHER. This man needs a nap fr though. Man I need to catch up with this manga.
Osaka:
IT'S OSAKA. Like!!! I don't even know how many clips and comics from Azumanga Daioh make the rounds around Tumblr, but specifically the ones about Osaka are amazing!!! She has the most autistic anime girl swag I love her so much. She's so sweet and earnest and silly... I always lose my mind at "OH MAH GOD!" and she has so many other classics. Like when she makes the Osaka stamp with her eraser or when she struggles to cross the street because she keeps zoning out when the light gets green or when she's distressed about Americans wearing shoes inside... I love her. And to her sleepyheadness, she's always falling asleep in class and whenever she's studying she just starts falling asleep. She's just like me fr...
Takane:
Back in the day I really liked Kagerou Project and so as tribute to my old obsession from middle/high school I have to give a spot to Takane. My favorite part of the series was when we saw flashbacks to the Yuukei quartet and Headphone Actor is still a bop.
Tanaka:
THE REASON WHY I STARTED THIS TOURNAMENT IN THE FIRST PLACE??? Last December during finals I decided to read something light and fun while working and I chose Tanaka-kun is Always Listless because I remember the title from a few years ago when the anime came out and like I loved it SOOOOOO much. He's the ultimate sleepyboy and he's just so funny and relatable. He needs to be carried around by his best friend Ohta and his ultimate goal in life is to minimize as much effort as possible and he's always nodding off and he dislikes being a main character, instead wishing he was a background character... my favorite guy for real.

The Darksaber is not a Fencing Foil.
The strangest thing about the idea of Bo-Katan using the Darksaber as a fencing foil being evidence that she's somehow more suited to it is that... it's not a fencing foil. A better way to phrase what he was trying to say is that it was lighter to her, but I also think that the initial phasing betrays a sort of fundamental lack of... creativity, I suppose, with how the Saber could have been handled.
Like, don't get me wrong, and let me preface this immediately; I do think Bo-Katan should be the Mand'alor. It's the natural conclusion to her story; Mand'alor or death, that is. I just think the narrative of Mando's episodes of bobf + season 3 doesn't lend itself to a strong presentation of why, nor did they show strong character development away from her dark past. Din Djarin isn't a leader because he doesn't want to be, and frankly that itself makes him a better hand of the Mand'alor than anything else. I think that the writers ran into walls they didn't know how to handle, and a sub-par story is the result.
Now, I don't know how many people who read this are familiar with star wars legends, swordfighting, sword making, and how different swords are typically wielded. I've done an absurd amount of research and even some training on how to wield blades of multiple types effectively, and so I speak with some authority [ but certainly not a professional one ] when I say that Bo-Katan wielding the Darksaber as a fencing foil is a fundamental representation of her own character's misunderstanding of the position and power she craves.
Let's start with the basics. This is the Darksaber; I tried to get multiple angles and resources.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Even without the official description, we can see that the Darksaber is unique among all lightsabers. It has a one-edged blade with a thick, weighted handle and a slanted guard. It's the hilt as a whole, the style of the guard, and the design of the blade that gives way to this weapon simply not functioning as a fencing weapon in the slightest.
In fact, for all his clumsiness, Din Djarin had a better idea of how to use the weapon than Bo-Katan Kryze.
Let's begin with the obvious; this is not a fencing foil. To those who are uninitiated, fencing is done with one of three standard weapons; foils, epees, and sabers. The last one would make you think oh, that might be what he was referring to, but I assure you it most certainly is not.
Witness; the foil.
Tumblr media
Notice something key about both the pistol grip and the standard grip; they are thin and lightweight, intended for one-handed use and swift movement. They also have a distinct trait among martial combat weapons, being their rounded guards that protect the whole hand in combat. Fencing, as a combat style, is one where your hand is at the most risk of immediate reprisal in the event an opponent manages a strike back at you. You are throwing your arm forward and piercing, attacking with jabs and thrusts. You do not swing a foil.
It's simply impractical.
Now, the epee.
Tumblr media
Basically the direct sister of the Foil, with a guard meant to defend from swings. Arguably better suited for combat, I haven't seen it as much in actual fencing sport, so I can't say much on it. It can be clunky to wield, especially given that your hand must fit inside the guard, but... to each their own. It's safer than the foil, and often provides more coverage for the limb you place at most risk.
At last, the saber.
Tumblr media
Please forgive the garbage picture for this one.
This one's handle is iconic, used across fantasy and historical fiction alike in one way or another. [ Note; you may actually know this as a rapier. It's how most of my friends seem to know it. ] Again, the notable round guard, thin hilt, and a distinct hand guard to defend the back of the hand.
All of these weapons have one thing in common. They are designed for jabs and thrusts, with thin blades meant to pierce. They have no distinct blade to them, and while a slash would... hurt, it certainly wouldn't be effective in any way. They are also historically used by light-weight combatants; watch a fencing competition, see how they bounce and leap and practically twirl around their arenas. They don't wear heavy armor; the best someone wielding a fencing weapon would wear is leather armor, not plate or even much chainmail.
These weapons resemble, interestingly enough, actual lightsabers; the only difference is that there are no circular guards, likely because if a lightsaber hits you in combat, it's taking way more than your fingers.
Tumblr media
All of these are thin, light, and - while customized to the wielder - are all visibly small in the hand. They're meant to be used in quick, acrobatic combat that likely isn't prolonged. Remember that the Jedi would end fights quickly, and all of their fighting styles would only... prolong the inevitable, so to speak, if they were cornered by too many enemies.
Now, again, the darksaber.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a weapon wielded one-handed, though it can be wielded with two. It deals a majority of damage through slashing and cutting, it bears a single bladed edge, and the weapon's hilt is clunky enough that it takes the entire hand to hold it. A comparison would be holding a broom stick versus holding a... beer or wine bottle. One is significantly thicker, taking more room in your hand.
The Darksaber is also made from metal. A lot of lighter weapons throughout history tend to prefer wood, or leather wrapped wood, as a hilt; metal or metal wrapped handles tend to be considered more of a medium or heavy weapon feature, as wood could splinter, develop dry rot, or simply crack under the weight of a heavier weapon.
The weapon has a high resemblance to a legends weapon that's a heritage piece for the Mandalorians; the beskad. This is a one-edged blade often the length of the wielder's arm, forged from beskar and carried by those who practice that particular strain of Mando martial arts. In legends, it would sometimes be wielded in conjecture with a kai dagger in the off-hand, but that was optional.
Tumblr media
shoutout to Tyler Broyles on artstation for this particular reference.
Tumblr media
This weapon is designed for short, devastating slashes and to crack open weaknesses in armor plating. More importantly, it was heavy. It was designed to break through an enemy's defenses through sharpness or strength, and so it was designed to be both precise and brutal. This method of fighting allowed Mandalorians to get in close to an enemy and deny them the space to escape, and a single swing of a well-made beskad could embed itself into the bone of an opponent. Those made in beskar could stop lightsabers.
So, we have a cultural precedent for the design of the Darksaber. More notably, though, the beskad visually presents much closer to a different sort of blade altogether in the real world;
The infamous falchion. No, not the curved fantasy one; the one used in history. One straight or nearly-straight blunt side, one honed to a sharp edge, ending in a tapered point.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
including some more modern presentations of the same blade;
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do you see, by chance, the way this mirrors the Darksaber? Let's take one more look at it.
Tumblr media
You see it?
This is a weapon designed by a Mandalorian who, according to legend, became Mand'alor and designed this weapon specifically for himself. You don't do that without significant combat prowess. He understood what the weapon was designed for; heavy slashes, close combat, and aggressive, overwhelming force. This is not the weapon of a fencer, this is a weapon of a knight. To use it as a fencing weapon fundamentally misunderstands the point of the weapon.
And he's right. She jabs and thrusts with it, she uses the fact that it's light to her to her advantage, but it's awkward. She puts no weight behind it, or maybe she can't put weight behind it. She uses it as she sees power; something light, to toss around and nearly flaunt even in the heat of battle. It's how she's always seen power; somethign easily passed from hand to hand [ perhaps too easily, as she watched Maul claim it so easily ]
Din Djarin, meanwhile, finds it incredibly heavy. And while he himself is clumsy, he seems to know how to use it, as his first instinct is to slash and cut with the weapon. It's less a lack of embracing the weapon and more a discomfort with the power it carries, one that shows itself the more he knows about the significance it holds, especially as he doesn't appear to find it heavy when he first picks it up in season 2's finale.
From a narrative standpoint, this would have been something fun to explore. Make the Darksaber heavier for Bo-Katan as she comes into the position of Mand'alor and having earned it, having truly changed to embrace all of her culture and people for better or for worse. Have the great reveal about the Darksaber be that it never gets lighter for those who realize the weight of their station, but rather serves as some physical reminder of their responsibility. Rather than some indicator of worthiness or moral compass, have it reflect one's acceptance of their position and the weight that comes with it. Or, if you want it to be some mystical indicator of the worthy, have it only be heavy for those who are.
Use it to show that she truly doesn't understand the weight of what she wants. Use it to show that she's disregarded the culture she comes from and the history of her people. Use it to show that she's finally understanding that she wants what her sister wanted by bringing peace and unity to her people, she's just doing it a different way. Use it to show that Pre Vizsla didn't understand either, which is why it was just as clumsy and awkward for him to use as it is for Bo.
Use it to show that Bo understands that Death Watch was wrong.
The weapon was never designed for lightweight fighting. The fact she uses it for that shows that she doesn't understand the station or the culture behind it. The fact that Din Djarin, unwilling and clumsy as he is, uses it more appropriately? Yeah. It's telling.
The fact the producers somehow missed the whole purpose behind a blade's design and function? Yeah.

★! ⛓️ ⟩⟩ beel wants in >:(
𖥻 characters... beelzebub x amab!reader
𖥻 genre... nsfw [??] oneshot
𖥻 warnings... nsfw??, its pretty suggestive me thinks, minors, ageless blogs and fem aligned i will block you if you interact, u feel beel up bit heheheh, PUBLIC ??? KINDA ??? IDK ???, mm dom!reader mmmmm, once again, reader is amab .. i mention readers bulge so ....
𖥻 a.n... fuck off with the beel eating u out / sucking u off propaganda i am here to propose a new idea: teasing this big boy!!!
Tumblr media
being the physically biggest brother, beelzebub never experienced what some of his fun-sized brothers experienced. standing proudly at six foot four meant that he was expected to look after everyone else, i mean, why would someone so large need people to look after him, right?
the avatar of gluttony had come to terms with what his size brought and in fact, he rather enjoyed it. but when you, the new human exchange student came and he witnessed his older brothers, asmodeus and mammon, clinging onto you and sitting on your lap, he couldn't help but feel a twinge of jealousy.
at first, he didn't understand why. he had lived with older brothers for centuries, he knew just how clingy they could be (especially mammon, regardless of how the second oldest would try and deny it).
it wasn't until belphegor made it a point to cling onto you at every chance he got did beelzebub realise why he felt so envious of his siblings.
he wanted to do that too. he wanted to be coddled the way you coddled mammon. he wanted to be the one in your lap, with all your attention focused on him and him alone.
so when you came home from helping solomon out and being taller than all of the brothers, beelzebub couldn't stop himself from following you around, too embarrassed to bring up what he wanted.
now, while beel may have believed he had been discreet all this time, in reality he had been quite obvious. although what he wanted wasn't quite clear, the longing glances at his brothers sitting on your lap didn't go unnoticed by you.
when you sat down on the couch after dinner, the demon wasted no time in taking up the spot next to you, making the other demons in the household whine and complain.
you smiled when you felt the avatar of gluttony's thigh brush up against yours, he was so cute and yet completely oblivious to it all.
"you know, i'm normally strong enough to hold mon, asmo and belphie... do you think i'm strong enough to hold you now, beel?" you asked aloud, trying not to sound like you had been planning this when you first asked solomon to make you a potion that would make you bigger than beelzebub. it, unfortunately, cost you being a guinea pig for a "special" potion he was working on, whatever that meant, but that was a problem for another day.
"ah no mc, i'm too heavy." the tall demon was quick unstick himself from your side, scooting closer to the other side of your couch.
"yeah beel! i wanna see mc carryin' ya!" mammon spoke up with a newfound excitement. this, got everyone else's attention, even lucifer who was preparing to leave the dinner table paused and looked at the two of you.
"cmon beel, i'm sure i can do it!" you tried, scooting closer to him. he looked puzzled and his moves were hesitant, but when you made an emphasis on how much space your lap had now that you were a giant, he took a deep breath before taking a seat on your lap.
"that wasn't so hard, now was it?" you teased, your hands resting on his hips as you leaned against his back in satisfaction at his compliance. the demons around you cheered and laughed, undoubtedly amused at the absurdity of the situation.
after they had their laughs and took and appropriate amount of pictures, the brothers slowly dispersed, going off to do their own things.
as for beelzebub, well... he didn't know how to feel. and while that was a regular occurrence, this time was different. he felt all kinds of embarrassed and flustered while also feeling very fuzzy and warm and... small. it wasn't often that the demon felt small, hell, he wasn't sure there was ever a time he felt small. that was what asmodeus, mammon and belphegor were, not him. not the tallest of the lords of hell.
yet, here he was. in your lap, in the house of lamentation common room. and you were fine. you were acting like the avatar of gluttony weighed nothing sitting stiffly on top of your thighs.
you felt your shorts tighten at the sight of beel's reddening ears, and you would've been embarrassed if beel wasn't constantly squirming on your lap, clearly not used to all the attention being on him.
"calm down." you instructed quietly, whispering in his ear as you rested your head on his shoulder, your hands moving to feel up and down his body in hope of reducing the gingers nerves.
you felt rather than heard the demon in your lap let out a breath, feeling his body ever so slightly relax at your ministrations.
you hummed and began gently squeezing his thighs, smiling when he took in a sharp breath. your hands moved higher, your touches on his abs and hips staying longer than they would've if you had pure intentions.
"do you wanna go to my room, baby? hmm? would you let me take care of you?"
if his eager nods and quiet whines were anything to go by, you'd say your little demon had been waiting a while for you to utter those words.

I keep getting followed and stalked by this one Hetalia user named /@ragdollpie and a few of their followers on my social media. (One called
/@borzoimuffin I believe as well.) anyways,
Please if you respect the Jewish community and those who have had family in general during the holocaust block them!
They called me a Nazi fetish artist and that is basically a spit in my face. And very rude.
Because they got this way because their s/o or partner came onto my instagram and proceeded to insult my art and so I did… I did slip and say their art is an “eyesore” but you guys legit threw hands first, you could’ve just left me alone and ignore or block me, but you had to throw that dig in!
Did you expect me to not defend myself? While you guys basically went and stalked around for me?
And not only that but they are trying to basically find me on many other platforms after I initially tried to sent me a message on instagram the first time but my DMs would not go through and basically when I sent them screenshots about how their behavior was disrespectful and how I felt horrible being called a Nazi, the messages ended up not showing up.
So I don’t know why their intentions to do so was simply for pure control of the fandom, to call out unnecessary and make drama or what, but I’m not the type to make any issues at all.
So please for me. Do not engage with them if you support Jewish folk. Because they clearly shown their “pro Palestine” support by calling me a Nazi Zionist. (I’m neutral about Zionism by the way.)
And they are stalking me online. Which is absolutely absurd… like just leave me alone. If you find them anywhere in any platform, just block and disengage! Oy!
I’m not even PROMOTING NAZI BEHAVIOR! This was all in reference to how the ship existed because I’ve SEEN OTHERS IN THE PAST IN THE FANDOM SHIP THEM.
And also, the ship has a deeply rooted and complex emotional meaning behind it that HAS TO DO WITH MY OWN TRAUMA! Where and anywhere am I showing Nazi fetish at? With one picture!?! Really? 💀 don’t tell me they’re one of those “antis”
I know one thing, they sure are obsessed with characters like Greece and Turkey, whom committed an atrocities to the Jewish folk for HUNDREDS OF YEARS! So let’s CLAP BACK AT THAT … HMMM HOW DOES IT FEEL TO DRAW CHARACTERS THAT AUTOMATICALLY ANTISEMITIC BY DEFAULT?
but guess what??? I didn’t come find you and stalk you, and called you disrespectful things because you draw problematic history… You DID 🫵
I have enough brain power in one brain cell than in the amount your entire head and your little wolf hunting posse’s heads to know that if something on Hetalia bothers me and causes me discomfort, to block it!
BECAUSE I KNOW HETALIA HAS TOPICS IN IT THAT ARE LESS THAN FAVORABLE DUE TO HOW COUNTRIES/NATIONS ARE!
But you know what? I could sit down and decipher this down with you, piece by piece and you still wouldn’t listen or even be civil about it. So I’m done! Now LEAVE ME THE HELL ALONE!
Oh and if you have any fans who have had family killed in the holocaust, you need to be blocked by them! They need to really know how much of a antisemitic person you are! Disgusting! Do NOT CALL ME A NAZI!
I don’t give a fuck who you think you are… do not call a Jewish person a Nazi!
//slams fists on table over and over again
Do not call a Jewish person a Nazi! Do not! Do not! Do not!
I don’t care what the fuck you do with your life… do NOT CALL ME, A JEW A NAZI!

Mustafa D. Doctor
General Description: At first glance, Mustafa's personality to the average person in the vast world that he is in can be described in about a few words being, confident, determined, stubborn, kind and an idiot. He is a very act first, think later type of person and does whatever he thinks is right, to the dismay of the others around him. One of those things being his rule of never running from any fight, no matter what the consequences may be, including the possible loss of his own life. He doesn't care what others think of him, especially when it comes to how they feel about him claiming to eventually be the first 'Galactic Pirate King', and tries to have fun wherever and whenever he possibly can. He is very easy to talk to, having absurd amounts of charisma, despite being a complete moron at times, and is the type of person that everyone would want to be around. However after someone decides to get to know him, or is considered to be a friend, Mustafa's true qualities shine. Almost like a special ability, Mustafa is able to bring up those around him, likely relating to his charisma mentioned earlier, and the simple fact that him believing in himself, causes other's to believe in themselves through him. He allows people to become the best versions of themselves and gives them an unrivaled amount of hope, even if all odds are stacked against them. This type of energy is what allows the Galactic Pirates to essentially be the way they are and making them a formidable crew, almost seeming unstoppable to the public eye. Adding on to before, like many other shonen protagonists, Mustafa has a great and deep love for his friends, and is willing to do almost anything to help them in any way he can. This confidence and energy that he exudes is due to his upbringing and how he had been the complete opposite as a child, scared of everything and lacked the ability to have faith in himself. Through characters like Jamal, (his foster brother), Momo, (foster sister), and mainly Monkey D. Yuri, (foster sister), he learned to become the man he is seen as today and eventually achieve his dream of becoming the Galactic Pirate King.
Appearance: Unfortunately, I dislike using things like Pinterest or inspirations when it comes to characters in fictional anime-like verses due to the fact that I have my own imagining of them, and I feel is important for the character to look that way. HOWEVER, because I know this is Tumblr and having visualization for the character is important, I will try my best to find accurate pictures to use. I will also give my own descriptions to assist in the imagining process but just know that I do not acknowledge these as the way the characters ACTUALLY look, even if they may have similar features.
Age: Starts off story at 15, and ends off the first saga at 19.
Birthday: August 21st (Leo)
Height: Around 5'8-5'9
Saikyo Description: Black teenager with a lean muscular build and distinct light blue hair being his most prominent trait. Later on in the story he get's an X-shaped scar crossing from his eye onto his right cheek. His eyes are usually depicted as being the regular black anime eyes, but are also fine if imagined being silver. He also wears a necklace with a miniature drill on his neck at all times that looks like this.
Image of his general face and hair type as well as skin: FHS Image of hair color: Hair Color Image of Scar (imagine it was over his eye though): Scar Image of first outfit (imagine with drill necklace though): Fit
Abilities: Mustafa has various different abilities which only grow as the series continues. For the fact that I want to avoid spoilers, I will only mention the abilities he has at the start of the series and will add more later as more is revealed. His main power/ability that he uses is his devil fruit (kinda, more on that later) known as the Drill-Drill fruit, which allows the user to create drills around their body, like on their hands or feet, exactly like this. It's also possible to change the speed and sharpness of the drill to make it more effective, capping out at however much the user is capable of handling. If used on the feet and spinning fast enough, the user is able to levitate themselves and later on, be able to even fly if strong enough. The fruit with enough mastery is also able to cause the user to have drill like properties, creating almost like an armor around them which Mustafa named Drill Mode. The fruit is able to do various other things but for now that's all that will be mentioned.
Fun Facts
If not for wanting to become the Galactic Pirate King, Mustafa would have likely been something like a marine biologist due to his extreme love of fish and fish life
After being scared of things like possums, rats and other similar creatures, Mustafa has a great dislike of rodents of all kinds
Similar to Luffy, Mustafa loves food, in particular meat, but refuses to eat any sort of fish, which has almost costed him his life on multiple occasions
Mustafa, despite having enough charisma to be able to get any girl he would want, seemingly has no interest in getting with anyone (at the moment at least). He also has no idea what sex or any sexual act is whatsoever due to it being hidden from him. Although if asked what his type is, he would respond by saying: a powerful women who could beat his ass
Mustafa's favorite color is blue
Mustafa often imagines himself to be more villainous than he actually is, due to the fact of him wanting to seem like a menace evil pirate despite it not being true. Oftentimes he is lied to by his crew to seem scarier than he actually is.
Mustafa is not fully against killing despite the fact that he dislikes doing it and avoids it at any chance he gets. His fruit allows him to be extremely violent and possibly extremely dangerous, but he makes a conscious decision to always dull his drill to the point where it cannot even cut through anyone. However, if he is an extremely bad mood, which is not often or feels like it's deserving or the only way, Mustafa would kill.

tony stark for your ask game? <3
peachy fren! thanks for the ask!
Favorite thing about them All of him. Every last bit. I left this question for last because I had no idea what to say. He's my favorite character of anything ever. Picking just one favorite is impossible.
Least favorite thing about them Hmmmmm, maybe how smart he is? But mostly just because it's so difficult to write. Oh, I know! The fact that Marvel, in an effort to keep up with the economy, has made him a billionaire because I'm so tired of seeing the coldest takes on how being a fictional billionaire makes him the literal devil.
Favorite line MCU: "I am Iron Man" (the first time) I'll admit I wasn't sold on the idea of Iron Man when I originally saw it. I grew up on the Tim Burton Batman films and only watched the X-Men movies for the scenes with Rogue in them (baby Alle had a crush), so I thought I knew what superheroes were and I wasn't overly impressed with them. And then Tony stood there and took accountability for his actions and at the very young age of 12, I sat up and took notice. Comics: "Good morning, beloved" because he's just so blasé about the whole thing. Why are you calling him beloved, Tony, hmm? Answer me, Marvel. I demand answers.
brOTP Rhodey & Tony. Hands down. Best brOTP in the entire world. My favorite chaos duo. Super smart when they're apart, the biggest idiots in the entire world when they're together.
OTP I feel like I shouldn't have to say this, but Stony. *gestures vaguely at my ao3* Obviously
nOTP Any of the pairings that came out of CACW. Are there good ones out there? Yeah, absolutely. Are they overshadowed by the absurd amounts of bashing fics that were written just to dump on Steve whether or not he'd been romantically involved with Tony in that verse? Yeah, and I don't feel like scrolling through all of them just to locate the gems.
Random headcanon Tony learned how to play the piano from his mom. She had a grand that was kept at the mansion that moved with him to Malibu and then to the tower (he's beyond thankful at his past self for insisting on having it moved instead of leaving it in the Malibu house to sink into the ocean when it was destroyed).
Unpopular opinion My unpopular opinion about Tony for the greater MCU fandom (and non-fans) is that he's a good character who doesn't deserve all the hate he gets. For actual Tony fans? My unpopular opinion is that he has the same mentor/mentee relationship with Peter that he has with Harley and the only reason Peter's gets so much more emphasis in the fandom is because Peter had his own movie with Tony in it.
Song i associate with them Taylor Swift's The Archer
Favorite picture of them This one. He just looks so happy!

I am DYING to talk about Alastor. He’s absolutely my favorite, I love sassy little shits, especially when they’re otherwise the picture of manners.
I do think he made a deal with Lilith. They were gone for the same amount of time, he clearly isn’t at full power (wings clipped! Mouth sewn!!) and he at first didn’t seem to like Charlie at all. Sure, she’s powerful, but nobody knew that, especially not her. She annoyed him, but grew on him for sure and how he wants to protect her but can’t since he’s not able to summon his full power yet. Charlie may be able to get him out of his deal, or maybe he thinks she can use her relationship with her mom to convince her to let him go. Hence the favor!
My theory is Lilith asked him to watch over the hotel and possibly to kill Lucifer. She had to get into heaven somehow, and what better way than to betray the man she left Adam for? She sewed his mouth shut so that he couldn’t tell anyone and sent him to help build her daughter’s dream. Possibly also to sabotage it? Although we don’t see him doing this beyond the first episode. Husk clearly knows something, because when he comes back Al specifically turns to Husk in warning before turning to Charlie’s hug.
ANYWAY would love to hear your thoughts!!
I LOVE ALASTOR genuinely its really fun to see an ace character who isn't a robot, or emotionless, or comically innocent. super fun time for me specifically. also quick sidebar, how they went about showing his depth by him literally loosing it was so satisfying and works so well for his character. hazbin baby im so sorry i doubted your writing so onto the theories! i do 100% think lilith and alastor are connected, and i dont think it would be stretch to say she's the one who owns his soul. the reinforced detail of 7 years obviously is a big piece of evidence, along with his hate of lucifer, but her being in heaven reinforces it more for me honestly because of Zestial's line in episode 3 "Some hath spun wild tales of you falling to... holy arms?". imo its either lilith or a character we havent meant yet. (ive seen people throw eve's name around 🤔) now weather or not she wants him to protect charlie and/or the hotel is another matter. its gonna be pretty hard to predict what exactly the terms are and what she wants from him (if anything!) until we get more content. i dont think its really much of a stretch to come to that conclusion and im not not saying i believe it, but im not really sold on it. if it turns out canon i woudnt be surprised tho lol
him hanging around charlie could be her mom wants him to protect her, hence the annoyance he holds towards her at first, or it could be she has status! sure they dont know how strong she is but shes the princess of hell, and everyone respects that to some degree. her side is the winning side! (another side bar alastor actually truly believing in her makes me so so emotionally ill 😭 like he didnt doubt shed be able to rally people. and he lowkey encouraged her with his little shit talk pep talk. mi amor... babito....)
the stitches across his mouth, the way he dances around his 7 year absence, the way he completely switches up with husk when his deal is mentioned could all be unrelated but hazbin doesn't exactly do coincidences. the details are all very purposeful, ever since the pilot, so i do think he cant talk about it.
i also am inclined to believe that he didnt make the deal for his power and the deal is actively restricting it. for one, its more interesting imo. two, the line "once i figure out how to unclip my wings, then i'll be pulling all the strings" he clearly thinks he'll be stronger out of the deal, which sure, could be his arrogance. or the reason why hes so arrogant is because he used to be able to back up his talk 100%. i mean the kind of sheer confidence he has is absurd, he wasnt scared of adam, he wasnt scared of lucifer. he acts like someone who is just not used to being weaker than anyone. part of the reason hed be so desperate for freedom is because the deal is literally a threat on his life. he almost died for them!
tbh not sure if husk knows the specifics of the deal or not, because that scene in the finale could just be alastor being alastor. "haha bitch u thought" type beat. either way!! im pretty pumped for s2 and seeing alastors inevitable downward spiral. beat him up again. also maybe he makes some more friends pretty please

about your series dear reader, will we ever get to see Nico having a collab or featured song in the future... heehe... love your work btw
thank u for the ask!! and thank u for reading i’m so glad you like it <3 i’ve actually thought abt this quite a bit!! the thing with collabs, is that either i could use an irl celebrity, or i could make a character a celebrity and make them work with nico—so here are my thoughts on both options:
1) a real celebrity - i try to stay away from involving real life people in the fic, as in interactions, because i don’t know any of those people irl and i would hate to, like, mischaracterize someone or write positively abt someone who eventually gets revealed to be like a shitty person, yk? the most i’ve ever done, i think, is that one time i mentioned nico taking a picture with lorde - but even then, it wasn’t him talking abt her, it was just a picture that was posted. that, and the absurd amount of taylor swift name drops that i have, which i will never stop😭
basically, though i have considered it (my mind is literally CONSTANTLY imagine collabs of nico and other celebs/other songs), i literally have a playlist of them, i don’t think i would ever include it in the fic. simply bc of the concerns mentioned above :/
(however, i would like everyone to know that ive been imagining nico as a surprise guest on the rep tour, and having him featured on rep tv, for like- literally as long as ive had this au in my head. ill never write him collating with taylor (bc again idk i just feel strange writing abt real ppl) but in my head, it’s canon)
2) creating a new celeb - this one is hard, pretty much bc i’m… out of characters.
like, i still HAVE characters to use, but i already have plans for most of them and a majority of them aren’t actually part of the music industry. i could justify a collab between alex and nico bc she’s like the only music person i have written, but i also don’t wanna force that
if i ever do, which i doubt, bc i don’t have any plans to at the moment, it’ll be a pjo character, i just don’t have any idea of who that would be :/
oh and! last reason why i’m hesitant to add a collab - i feel like nico writing music is so engrained with him working with apollo as a producer, and their studio dynamic. obviously, it’s good to step out of your comfort zone, but i think that it’s also some sense of caution and comfort between them, that they’re the same people who will work on every nico di angelo song and album.
either way, i have seven albums outlined in total. the time span of greatest of luxuries goes from 2018-2024. that may be subject to change, but im feeling pretty confident abt it (it used to be 2028 btw😭) and anything PAST that time range is completely up to the reader!! i have lots of ideas of what could happen beyond that seventh album, and i have an idea (and a playlist) of the eighth album, but i can definitely imagine a lot of features in the future as he branches out. (and also him on rep tv. or ttpd. will update when ttpd comes out if i think there’s a specific song he’d slay as a feature on)
and lastly, for features. yes. he is on the hunger games tbosas soundtrack bc i say so‼️
(i imagine yellow flicker beat by lorde, even tho that was written for mockingjay, i just feel like it fits his vibe, but also, can’t catch me now works perfectly too)

i've gotta be honest, i don't think weiss' 'it's about time' comment brings us any closer to 'canon bees confirmation' than we already were two volumes ago. it's no more explicit than nora's speech to ren about blake and yang that preceded the renora kiss, and that ultimately didn't lead anywhere either lmao (well, it contributed to the holding pattern blake and yang were in, but that's been consistent since the end of v6. is it really a 'slow burn' if nothing's actually burning? i've seen glaciers melt faster)
I definitely see where you're coming from, anon. However, I do think there's a slight (but important) difference in how these comments are framed. Nora uses a Blake/Yang reference to try and goad Ren into acknowledging their own attraction. It's not about the bees, it's about renora. Though I don't think this is actually the case, it's possible to make an argument that Nora didn't really mean anything by her comments, at least not when it comes to her teammates. She's mad. She's frustrated. She wants Ren to acknowledge their relationship and she's willing to say or do anything (like the kiss) to get that out of him. The closest thing I can think to compare it to is an annoyed person letting that annoyance cloud their judgement of something else.
Person #1, at a Fun Even: "Wow! This is so much fun! :D"
Person #2, also at the Fun Event but really fucking mad at them: "Oh really? You think this is fun? Are you stupid?"
The takeaway isn't, "Person #2 actually hates this fun thing" it's "Person #2 is really annoyed with Person #1." As said, given everything else Nora is right that Blake and Yang are attracted to one another and I do think she legitimately believes they're more than friends, but the scene itself is constructed in a way that anyone who doesn't want the queer rep can argue that Nora doesn't really think this, she's just letting her own relationship bias color her view of the bees and/or she's spouting anything, no matter how absurd, that she thinks might get Ren to admit his feelings. Toss in the fact that Ren's response is, "What else would they be [if not friends]?" and you can picture people going, "See! See! He disagrees and doesn't see anything happening between Blake and Yang because nothing is happening!"
Weiss' comment, in contrast, is much more straightforward and far closer to irrefutable. She makes a comment that's only ever made about romantic couples, while in a calm state of mind, while not actually talking about herself, without Ruby coming in with a, 'Wtf are you talking about?' response. It's not exactly a world-shattering difference, but I think it's the stronger of the two scenes and, technically speaking, the closer to true canonization.
But as you say, anon: it's a glacial pace🤦‍♀️
It's actually funny because I went back to my old recap while reviewing that scene and I was SO hopeful. Like, Volume 7 Clyde still had a decent amount of faith in the writers, despite the utter failure of Volume 6. I'm talking up how they're finally becoming a couple, yay getting rep that's not side-characters/villains, I even use the term "canonize" to describe the scene because I didn't think they'd get that close and then stall for [checks calendar] four years. I jumped the gun under the assumption that of course we'd be getting a kiss/date/"I love you"/whatever soon.
Le sigh.

Everyday Changkyun and I found a new topic to fight about.
Day 2 with Changkyun
I was sat down on the couch flipping through TV channels. Changkyun messed around in the kitchen before coming to stand behind the couch, hands resting on the back. I continued browsing the channels. We fought over the remote when I landed on the news because, “this is boring and depressing, let's watch a drama!”
But I needed something to connect me to the outside world. Changkyun wandered around behind me opening and closing cabinets in the kitchen, probably looking for a snack. And then I saw it—my picture was blown up to fill the TV screen. It shrank down as the newscaster broke down the story of a young woman—me— “proclaimed missing three days ago.”
If I was standing, I would have been knocked off my feet. A fire re-ignited within me; I wanted to turn around and lunge at Changkyun. The police have probably already given up hope looking for me. What was everyone thinking right now—never mind, I knew. At this point, people are thinking I’m buried in some shallow grave. I could envision people crying, and people who barely knew me reminiscing about “that time.” Sure, I’d thought about this before, but I was also so wrapped up in the fact that, at first, I was more or less safe.
“That’s a nice picture of you,” Changkyun muses, “when is that from?” He was sick and callous.
“Did you know this was on the news?” I screamed at him. I didn’t wait for his answer. “This is you! You’re a criminal and this is your crime do you know that? People think I’m dead and you stand here casually asking when I took this picture! You’re soulless!” I felt angry and sad and cursed, and I wanted to run all the way home Surprise, my accounts got hacked or I went camping or some excuse that could cover up being off the grid for 10 days so I wouldn’t have to ever think of Changkyun again, let alone relay the story to someone. Changkyun stood there, arms crossed. Are you done yet was visible on the tip of his tongue while he waited for me to finish.
Day Three with Changkyun: Family
“Just let me tell them I’m still alive!” I begged. “A text or a letter.”
“No.” I imagined Changkyun wearing a cloak and flourishing it while he walked away, I imagine he would be that melodramatic given the chance.
Soon he got sick of me pestering him on this, opting to blow up at me. “Why do you care about them so much? If they really loved you, they would have found you already! I had to search everywhere for you when you left school!” after pointing this bullshit, he stopped yelling. “Besides, no one just runs away for a couple weeks. We’ll go see them once you’re settled here.”
“You mean once you've finished brainwashing me?”
“You’re just scared of change.”
I threw my hands up in frustration, “Stop acting like you know what I’m feeling. I’m scared–” I growled “–of you!”
Promptly, Changkyun delivered a hard slap to my face. “I’m protecting you" I looked at him. “You’re absurd, what was that then?” I held my cheek
“There’s a lot more than that waiting out there for you.”
“Are you threatening me? You make no sense” I yelled. Again, he held up his hand prompting me to shut my mouth.
“I did it to show you what it feels like when you say such mean things to me.” Changkyun had big sad eyes as he soothingly rubbed the hand he hit me with, still red from the impact.
Day Four with Changkyun: Going Outside
“I want to go outside.” I stood in front of him while he lounged on the couch.
“No.” His favorite word.
“Just in the backyard. I’ll stay on the patio.” He ignored me.
Trailing behind him all day, begging, whining–even crying, all amounted to nothing. I felt like a toddler.
“I want to go outside!” I slammed my hand on his desk, not missing a beat, Changkyun grabbed me by the wrist and yanked me down. Losing my balance, I dropped hard onto the desk while he pulled my arm taught to his side. “My niece understands no better than you do.”
It crossed my mind that he’d never mentioned having siblings, nonetheless nieces or nephews, but his family tree wasn’t my first priority at the moment.
“You never even asked if I’d go with you.” I open my mouth, but he cut me off, “I won’t. Maybe if you were good, sweet, obedient for more than an hour I’d reward you and we would go outside. Together.” I debated if this trade-off was worth it. Obedience or House Arrest? He watched me weigh the two in my mind. “We’re a long ways away from going outside. That’s more of a…” he guided my hand back between us “final reward for you.” I jerked my hand back and stood up fully. “Now, stop asking.”
Day Five with Changkyun: Sleeping Arrangements
“I hate waking up next to you.” I threw out while eating breakfast. He was not impressed, and knew where I was going with this conversation.
“You’re not staying in one of the other rooms.”
“Why?”
“Because we love each other, and when people loved each other, they share a space.”
“I don’t–” Changkyun’s glare cut me off. “I don’t want to live with someone before we’re married.” I deterred.
Changkyun scoffed. “Come on, I know you.”
After that, we ate quietly. It was surprising Changkyun hadn’t exploded already. On cue,
“Why does nothing satisfy you!?” He hit the table. Silverware rattled “I could give you the world and you’d still ask for more.” I cringed, was I really that selfish? “Can’t you let me have one thing?”
“I’m right here.” I murmured sarcastically to myself. He’s asking a lot from a prisoner. He wasn’t meant to hear me.
“And I’m asking you to see me and understand that everything I do is for you. Please stop antagonizing me.”
Then stop being an antagonist I huffed. Maybe I could stand to complain a little less, then maybe I could get one of those rewards he’s always holding over my head.
Day Six with Changkyun: Activities
“I’m bored.”
Changkyun looked up at me from his phone. We sat together on the couch, my legs across his lap as his CD played. He claimed he was responding to work emails, but that couldn’t be all he was doing on his phone. My fingers itched, I craved it like comfort food, like a breath of air after drowning. Of course, he noticed my eyeing his phone. Smoothly, he turned it off and slid it into his sweatshirt pocket.
He rubbed my leg “I can think of a few things to do.” he wore an indecorous smile.
“No.” I pulled my legs in, he playfully tugged them back, yet not moving to do anything else. “What do you even have do here?” I tried to change the subject.
“Well, when I’m not learning about you,” ah yes of course “I work, make music, I work out.”
And I could tell.
While Changkyun typically wore sweatshirts and large baggy hoodies, he also wore his fair share of compression shirts that stretched tight over his chest and arms. Not to mention how they accentuated his small waist. Changkyun saw my eyes trailing to where the zipper of his hood stood, exposing his collarbone but little else.
“Should I take it off, Changkyun challenged.
“Shut up. You never even leave to go to the gym.” I don't want to admit I’d even spared a glance at him.
“Why would I when I have one here?” He l took his phone back out.
“What? Where?” I wasn’t convinced.
“Through the kitchen.”
“The garage?”
“I just wrote that so you wouldn’t try to go in there.”

what's really been annoying me, and why i couldn't make it past the first episode, is the amount of aggression and violence from the ambush of the air nomads. And i'm not talking about from the fire nation. It's the growls and roars and visceral *hate* on all the air nomad's faces as they fight them that feels so out of place to me. The scenes are structured as classic action movie battle scenes, right down to a shot where two lines of fighters clash into the center of the frame. The bender's staffs are being used less as a tool to manipulate their bending and more like weapons they were trained to combat with. Certain fighters literally charge at their opponents seeking to throw them against the ground or down stairs. And yeah, Aang does that a lot during the show. But in this setting, with the actors fixated on choreographed combat rather than evasion and the scenes aimed to get across the atmosphere of a war... the intention seems less to disable threats and bring safety but to cause as much harm as they can as they go out.
I always interpreted the assaults on the air nomads as being far more of a massacre than a true battle. These are a collection of monks. Aang himself corrects in The Headband when a fire nation teacher refers to "battles" that the nomads did not have any kind of military. Bending inherently is associated with combat in the universe, and Aang shows his competence in that area a lot so i assume the others would have similar skill sets. But no one knew what the fire nation had planned when the attacks started. Not the scale of their deployment, nor their true goal of total annihilation. I pictured any resistance that was mustered up as being individual crop ups rather than a garrison quickly built to deal with intruders because there would never have been a need for such a thing before.
A large part of their philosophy and something very important to Aang's final character arc is the sanctity of all life, even those misusing it for wrong doing. So their response to a siege would in most cases be to flee or disarm/incapacitate, never kill. So fundamentally, any fights that did break out while this tragedy was happening would always have been on uneven footing. Beyond that, it's referenced that Sozin used the last arrival of the comet they later named after him to "defeat" the air nomads so the enemy isn't even at normal strength but the super-charged extreme we see in the final episode of the show.
I'm not saying that different people didn't have different reactions. Monk Gyatsu's body was found surrounded by a crowd of fire nation helmets after all. But some would have tried and failed to reason with them, some would have been caught completely off guard, some would have started fighting and when it became clear that more and more soldiers were piling in would have tried to surrender to protect lives - not realising these men's goal wasn't to conquer but perform genocide. How you act when there is theoretical danger once soldiers are in your home and how you act once you've witnessed them burn a man alive are also different. Desperate people sometimes fight back in ways they usually would never. But that kind of desperation was not there in those scenes.
What i'm really trying to say is that of all the people the fire nation could have targeted, air nomads perhaps symbolised the attributes of peace best. The weight of injustice and horror of what happened is that beyond the fundamental loss of life, this was a willful strike on a people who offered no aggression to justify it. To frame it as any kind of proper battle is supposed to be absurd propaganda. The tv show literally makes this point a few times about the fire nation not being taught just how imbalanced the whole "siege" was. Nothing about the incident was two opponents fighting for the goal of defeating the other. It was extermination, it was a calculated hunt to wipe out innocents.
I just feel like... I don't know. Perahps skirmishes like this did happen during the genocide, but by making that the exclusive way you choose to display the air nation getting taken out? "oh no, there's too many of them so now we lose and die". No. Just No. That's not what happened. You're misrepresenting the slow systematic hunt and extermination of every person they could find.
The original tv show left it vague for a reason. Maybe my interpretation isn't an accurate one. But removing all of the unknowns and blank spaces of that piece of narrative history just does more harm than good in my opinion. No one lived to tell the stories of what happened there. Isn't that so much more awful a way to learn what happened than a dumb action sequence showing off your airbending choreo/vfx?
