Ok, so I saw someone on Twitter (No, I'm not calling it X) applauding Wen Ning for explaining the golden core situation to Jiang Cheng since otherwise, JC would never stop making WWX's life hell for the rest of his life and saying that it's good that JC now knows about it thanks to Wen Ning and that "without Wei Wuxian, Jiang Cheng would be nothing." And aside from everything else in that statement (like okay, yes, thanks Wen Ning for finally telling JC the truth, but the way Wen Ning made that revelation, blaming JC and berating him for the information THEY intentionally withheld from him, and the surgery they did on him without his consent and with active deceiving since they knew he would never consent to it was...let's say, less than ideal. Like...WN, my sweetest boy, JC is the victim here. You're the cute little culprit. You don't get to yell angrily at him about this specific thing. And the way it implies that JC justifiably asking WWX for an explanation for the whole, you know... killing their BIL and then starting a massacre at Nightless City that accidentally resulted in their sister's death & the orphaning of their nephew is making WWX's life hell. And the way this tweet reduces Jiang Cheng to his golden core. without his golden core, Jiang Cheng was still the heir to the Yunmeng Jiang sect and a son of the Meishan Yu sect, and a resilient, brave, strong, foresighted, smart, & capable man and a charismatic, diplomatic and overall good leader, thank you. And no, don't start with "he was wilting away without his golden core". He was forcibly put into a coma and not given any time to handle the issue. Those few days practically were nothing to him. It was like he had JUST been rescued from the LP every time he woke up. He dealt with many shitstorms afterward and kept going. Having a breakdown after calamities is the normal thing to do, JC just gets the hysterical woman treatment by everyone.) I would like to say that, without Jiang Cheng, Wei Wuxian would have been dead. Not in episode 16/chapter 59 but in episode 14/chapter 55 in the cave. And NHS would have no reason to bring back WWX. You'd have a total of 14 episodes to watch and 55 chapters to read.

so a passing thought about post-canon sangcheng occurred to me & i would like to receive any wise counsel you'd like to give on my thought processes... 🙇‍♂️ they're a little disjointed. disclaimer that i havent read the novel in a while!

im not super convinced by the idea that nhs was able to control eeeeverything that occurred in his Great Revenge--i imagine a lot of it was incidental and opportunistic.

im not clear on whether jiang cheng would figure out that there was a masterminding aspect to the grand finale at the temple at all, bc while i think he's smart! he's also, like, so uninclined to overanalyse things that might uncover something painful for him (see: wwx's behavior post golden core transfer--unless you have to adjust for shixiong admiration/how jc places wwx on a competence pedestal? if wwx says he can handle it he can handle it, until he doesnt handle it so hard he dies. i guess.)

ANYWAY. i dont think jc would be friendly, or maybe he wouldnt like that he Was friendly with nhs if he thought nhs intentionally put jin ling in danger. im not sure if nhs DID! but im thinking in circles about whether jc would think that would have been the case. in my mind he is both endlessly capable of knee-jerk trust recindication (is that a word.) AND trust extended way past reasonable limits. but do you think that would be discussed (with jiang cheng loudly in tears about it in front of many rubbernecking witnesses, mdzs style?) at all? the most i can imagine is jiang cheng yelling obscurely around whether he can trust nie huaisang! clarifying details & inside voices are for the next generation.

i feel like there something to be said about how he trusts wwx with jin ling's safety, too...

this kind of doesn't have a conclusion im just interested in what you think of post canon sangcheng en generale-- it feels like a very different relationship from anything i can imagine in like... cloud recesses era. they're both miserable i think 😀 but actually post canon jiang cheng is doing better than usual than he has been for a long time, in a sense, and nie huaisang is probably thinking he should be doing better.

now my thoughts on the matter:

2019 me wouldn't have agreed with this but remember 4-5 years ago i was only a college sophomore and was less capable of independent thought. since i was more caught up in fandom back then i generally went along with the headcanon that NHS Planned Everything, especially since it gave him more BAMF-ness(??) to, i guess, make up for the fact that he's not a "strong" cultivator. i would Like to delete the fic i wrote about it then but people like it a lot and i'd feel bad just taking it down. it's kinda like my sorrows of young werther (in that goethe regretted his first published work. not that im like goethe ew)

2023 me obviously thinks that's kinda eeehhh and i agree with you more now bc (flips through my memory of Hot Strategist Tips) no plan survives contact with the enemy. nhs wouldn't have been as effective if he had clear strict play-by-plays from the get-go. i think overplanning is what got jgy, because he kept stacking plots to cover his tracks but nothing makes a crime obvious quite like a cover-up

(unrelated question: if you're stark naked in the street, do you cover your ass or your balls? the correct answer is, you cover your face.)

as jgy's narrative foil and winner of that year's political oscars, nhs wouldn't make those exact same mistakes. not to mention, his strength (i think) is in recognizing patterns and doing the least amount of work for maximum effect--the hallmarks of the "lazy" (efficient) genius. plus it's not like he was starved for opportunity (again, bc jgy really was doing too much..... he really could've not gotten caught if he would just focus on the damn infrastructure)

also re:jc yes you're right my man's the king of repression and sublimation lol the whole "who is the REAL mastermind" would be the LEAST of his problems right nyeow!!! he has to help his nephew secure the succession and keep those scheming little rats of jinlintai away from jl, THEN he has to reckon with the fact that his brother is back, which comes with 15+ year old unopened baggage. wouldn't it be funny if he's like, an old retiree before nhs even tells him "yeah it was me lol" and that's finally the thing that kills him LOL sorry

ok that aside let's imagine a scenario where jc gets a whiff of an inkling of an idea that NHS Risked JL's Life (whether he did or not is irrelevant in this case). i'd like to believe that as an older sect leader, like yeah sure emotionally he's stunted like evel kneivel* but at the very least he should have the presence of mind not to scream at a fellow sect leader in the streets about Serious Accusations. (he is not as logical about wwx in canon because that's his big brother and no younger brother is ever logical about his big brother. also he knows wwx well enough that he can trust wwx Wouldn't Endanger Kids)

imo jc would go in circles thinking "but no..... nhs wouldn't do that" then "but that's what i thought about jgy too......." and then working himself up to a froth. this will probably result in the most intense assessing death glares and some shady little quips in public. coin toss whether jc would decide to confront nhs about it privately. at least for as long as jl hasn't fully settled in on the role yet, i highly doubt jc would let his guard down for anyone, even nhs. maybe wwx

postcanon sangcheng...... keep in mind i have shipper goggles on. but they're not getting married babes im sorry if i'm keeping it realistic they both have Duties to fulfill and they live in a Society where they don't have time to...... governance is not just Paperwork, it's their lived reality and not everyone has the privilege of a living family to hold down the fort while one goes off traveling (@ lwj, but he can do whatever he wants forever). not saying that they'll get married to other people and have babies, mind you. especially in societies based on martial strength i think it would be less important to have an Unbroken Bloodline than it is to pass down sect techniques

at the end of it IF there's a romance then they're living off of stolen time, sneaking around during hunts and conferences. and i highly highly doubt it'll be a soft epilogue my loves they are two jagged broken people who have given up too much and gotten back so little. they are not gonna make each other better, but hey the consolation is that they also can't make each other worse! at least they'll have someone else who somewhat Understands what it's like. "miserable but not alone" is a boon if you've lost everything else that mattered

I guess I phrased it wrong, not necessarily about directly comparing B to a bro, but it's more like, I wonder if Ava - in the same way that Beatrice is allowed to explore her identity - if Ava allows herself be introspective and examine her own attraction and ~types, so to speak. ok i'm not Entirely sure what this is getting at but just to clarify a few things that i think it's asking:

1 ava's experience of/with queerness is profoundly different than bea's. i don't think that ava's ever struggled with being queer any more than she's struggled with not having the access to experience everything she wants. for ava, desire is so integral to her ability to experience what life is ('i want to live') without systemic, more than any, limitations, & so it makes sense that queerness would just be a part of how to fully access pleasure & want & love & safety. (there's so much more in here about how if ava had been given care & access then being disabled wouldn't have taken away any huge degree of pleasure from her life, but that's for another day! whew.) bea's experience with queerness is one of fear, of it being 'a flaw,' one that made her feel not valued, not worthy. so even just within their characters, i don't think that ava's exploration of queerness is internal so much as it is just... getting to feel the things that come along with love, especially queer love. bea's is allowing herself to be who she is, in whatever way that may be or look at the time. also, ava is white, & bea is Asian, & there's cultural & systemic harms that come along with intersections of identity (including ava's disability too, of course). so i think ava's queerness is an external exploration, in a way, & bea's is just like. letting herself feel anything at all, & then working for that to be positive.

3 there are so many ways — infinite ways!!!! — to be butch! & they're all beautiful & they're all hard to come to! i think i write abt bea's queerness bc a) i love writing abt being butch bc i love being butch lol; b) being butch is abt private decisions you have to make, all the fucking time! how do u want ppl to read you as a woman/dfab person who isn't a trans man but like... doesn't feel like a CIS WOMAN? do u feel safe to be masc? what does androgyny & masculinity look like TO YOU? butchness for me is actually so fucking soft, & wonderful. i don't picture (or write) bea as a stone or hard butch; there's a comfortable breath of an in-between there: cottons & linens & soft hair & clean skin, a big bed, a little mascara, the very rare suit but not often, & only for events. it's on purpose, bc i think ppl often have a p reductive view of masculinity & butchness, & femininity & femmeness, & all the gentleness that exists in being a dyke kind of gets lost. it's just... not femme. there are so, so many ways to be soft butch especially. & those are all decisions that have to be made all the time. like it is constant &, while having a partner who is truly just along for the ride is helpful, my wife being supportive of me hasn't made those decisions on my behalf. i have to make them, every day, every time i get dressed, every time i put on a watch or shoes, even just to like... go to the store. it rly is smth u are constantly figuring out, even without like hyper-homophobic parents fucking you up as a kiddo. so yeah, i think, if ava wants to try anything w appearance, bea wouldn't care at all, she would be just as happy. but like... the essence of being a dyke isn't abt appearance so much as it is everything, & aesthetic is just a way to reflect who you are. & i know i've written this, very clearly lol, but bea's queerness (& ava's, & anyone's) has absolutely nothing to do with who they date, or marry, or love, or fuck. being queer is a politic, an expression, a way of existing. being a dyke is those things in spades, with a very, very special orientation toward liberation throughout history.

4 w my life partner, & my friends, all i care about is that they're happy. like legit. are ur material needs met? do you feel loved by me? -- if those are both good strong yeses, then like... we are good. i cannot imagine loving my partner less if she wanted to do literally anything aesthetically other than maybe like... a giant face tattoo or something lol. but exploring expression? i would never feel less than proud or brave. do i have favorite stuff? of course! do i think my friends sometimes make decisions that are not the cutest possible? of course! so do it! bc i want to! bc i want to try. & so yeah, i don't think ava would ever think less of bea, & i don't think bea would ever think less of ava. it's not like, a lack of care abt being physically attracted to someone, it's like... u love that person, & their body is gorgeous. ava's disabled, too, so u know there is profound care that bea shows & has to grow into as that changes & shifts too!

You know, as much as I hate that Peregrine is supposedly our father, it’s very clear that Perry and Fugly Slut are indeed related. They both apparently see the Mother as a mere object that’s supposed to please them. For Perry, she was just a fling and a fun time before he got bored. For Fugly Slut, she’s needed only to complete his picture of the ideal family. Who the fuck cares what she wants, right?

Ok, but the first important conclusion coming from this whole situation is that it’s once again painfully obvious that Fugly Slut has nothing in common with the original Jacob. Jacob was super smart and extremely cautious. He came up with his own code just to secure his private notes. He would also use Legilimency on Madam Rosmerta (who he had to be pretty close with), just to make sure it’s safe to trust her. You really want to tell me that any of that would ever occur to Fugly Slut?

But even that aside I have to point out that the whole “I wanted to bring our family back together” simply makes no sense... for anything. Sure, Fugly Slut was established as someone very naive and impulsive. But the problem is that we’re talking about Peregrine in specific now. And let me remind you our first conversation about him:

It always annoyed me that Jacob says this line even if you chose to tell Peregrine that you don’t want him in your life. However, on the other hand, I saw it as a build-up for the narrative: “Jacob was older when Peregrine left and he remembers how hard it was for everyone. MC was younger and therefore they’re more likely to forgive Peregrine”. It’s pretty much supported by our conversation from the next chapter, too:

Again, he basically was like: “I still remember how badly he hurt us”. So... it really makes no sense that he confesses now that: “Boo-hoo, I always wanted our family back”. I mean, it does make sense, but:

it’d make way more sense for MC because as I said, they were younger, they don’t remember everything, so they might be more likely to forgive Perry’s mistakes;

it makes Fugly Slut incredibly childish because it means his distrust towards Peregrine was just an act to get attention or whatever.

Seriously, it’s like JC was too scared to let MC make any mistake, so they decided to ignore everything they wrote just a couple of chapters earlier and put the fault on Fugly Slut. Which I don’t mind too much in general - but I wish it’d make sense at least. And the thing is that it could’ve been totally done. Just skip the whining about the family and make Jacob’s reasoning something like:

I might not agree with Dad, but he does have a point about the Ministry. I felt responsible for you and mum ever since he left, and I believed that by fighting the corruption, I can secure a better future for you. I didn’t trust him, but I thought it was a risk worth taking. I was wrong.

That’s it. As simple as that. Like... it’s basically right there already. Why the hell they thought it’s a good idea to make it about family right now?

16. for hamilton, i feel like more details have already been obsessed over. I love the use of motifs for songs (like wait for it and burn being the same notes, just at different tempos and with different rhythms) like the implications there that burr and Eliza have some similarities in these songs makes my head spin and keeps me up at night. of course, this is just me being insane for hamburr. like lin is a smart man. he worked on this for years. he did that on PURPOSE. also the fact that alexander is constantly singing other people's themes, like eliza's and burr's, almost mocking them with it. in jcs 2012 broadway, during jesus' arrest, judas is trying to run to jesus with and outstretched hand only to get flung away by a guard. no one talks about this. i brainrot over this moment. judas canonically was trying to rescue jesus. and when he's just centimeters away from touching him, they're ripped apart. also not really tiny, but under-appreciated. the temple scene. the implications of judas walking through while jesus/mary avoid it, the way he's staring at the dancers (men and women), and the fact jesus gets so angry he shoves him that hard. like oh god, they took an already dense scene and made it even more heavy. WHAT WAS GOING ON THERE???

“We don’t have to do this…” she trailed off.

It wasn’t until hearing those words, that I realized I had been white knuckling the steering wheel since either the moment I’d put the car in park or afterwards.

“I need to be able to do this” I said more for myself than Emily. I knew the chances were slim that anything untoward would happen at the mall today. But, I also knew that to most people, I was a guy wearing a skirt and makeup and a t-shirt bra stuffed with tissues. To Emily though — I was just Jessie. Funny, smart, and a great kisser. Her words, not my own currently mortified ego.

“Jessie, nothing is going to happen.” Echoing my own thoughts was something Em managed to do since the moment I met her, but right now? It meant just a little bit more, like she was willing the universe to make that statement true. Letting out the biggest sigh, I pushed open the door, making sure to swing my legs together so as not to flash anyone. Em let out a tiny yay that helped me relax. We were two girls, queer girls admittedly with its own set of problems, going shopping at the mall on the weekend. Today couldn’t possibly be any more normal. Emily stood waiting looking towards the mall with her hand outstretched waiting for mine. Once we’d locked together, it was like I had donned armor, I was confident and safe finally.

We went from store to store, looking at and trying out clothing, makeup, shoes, clothing, and stopping for a bite at the food court too. We had a few stares, but only when we got too loud. We were walking out of JC Penny when I froze, Emily’s arm jerking from the abrupt resistance. There, across the walkway outside the Victoria’s Secret, was Jacob and Leiah! Jacob was looking too bored while Leiah examined a lacy pink thong. No one from school was supposed to be here! Emily followed my gaze and, facing me, blocked both of us from being easily recognizable.

“It’ll be ok, they’re just shopping, like we are.” I could barely process what she was saying, but it pulled me out of my freeze nonetheless. I caught sight of the two walking off and as nonchalantly as I could muster, pulled Emily the opposite direction. My heart threatened to make a scene by jumping straight clear of my throat. We were two towns over, why were they here? We needed to leave but they headed in the direction of where I parked the car, maybe we could —

Emily pulled me into a kiss. And I… and I… I…

“Whoa Leiah, look at those two chicks making out, pretty hot, right!” Jacob’s voice snapped me not just back to where I had been but through the roof of it. I felt too hot, too exposed, like a mouse being eyed by a cat with nowhere to run.

“Jacob” Leiah whined. “Don’t be so gross! C’mon we have better things t— wait, is that Emily Breacher and David Markos?”

Oh shit, oh shit, oh shit. Emily had pulled from our kiss to urging me to just walk away and hopefully avoid confrontation.

“Oh shit that is D-dog” and I hated when he called me that! “The freak is wearing a skirt and makeup!”

At that, I bolted, sprinting past them, leaving Emily, Jacob, Leiah, and everything else behind. I ran and ran and ran, each new pair of eyes on me make it so much worse! I had to get away and fast. Before I knew it I was at my car, slamming the door. I hadn’t even noticed I was crying until I finished climbing into my little Camry. A new wave of guilt and pain blossomed in my chest, sobs causing me to shake. Freak flooded my mind, drowning out any other thoughts. I began to openly wail, sound making its way past the tightness in my throat, painful and raw.

I jumped, like actually jumped when Emily knocked on the passenger window. I unlocked the car and let her in and we sat there in silence for, who knows how long. When I finally managed to control myself enough to look at her, her reddened eyes and streaks on her face showed me she’d been crying too. I grabbed her hand, started the car, and drove off without any other words.

jc stands in front of the mirror, takes his hair down, unsheathes sandu, and just when wwx and jyl walk into the room, intent on comforting him, he cuts the hair at shoulder length

cue silence pt. 2

he hugs his sister, says sorry, tells wwx to not be an idiot and take care of jyl, and walks out

cue crying

he is no longer Jiang Cheng, heir of YunmengJiang Sect. he is just another face, another cultivator

madam yu, is, understandably distraught and angry and tries to convince him to stay on his way out

he apologizes, brushes her off, and with one last glare towards his father, he walks out of Lotus Pier. 

he travels for a few days before hearing that lotus pier has been attacked by the Wens

(jfm and jyl stay in lotus pier in this instead of leaving and yzy

of course, he rushes back home to see the place in flames, disciples dead and his family missing

Jfm is dead. Yzy, jyl, and wwx are missing

Jc is torn between the need to murder wc and wzl and find his family

He decides to find his family

Wwx has been caught and un-golden-cored and is now missing 

Yzy is not in the best shape

she gives him zidian 

jc uses his connections with lxc and nhs to get lwj over here immediately because ‘i have to find my brother and you're basically a bottom magnet’

Meanwhile yzy and jyl, with the help of the lan and nie sect, take back lotus pier

Yzy dies, big sad

Jyl is made the clan leader of yunmengjiang

Sunshot campaign happens 

Oh btw wwx was tossed into burial mounds and is now: demonic cultivator

Wen chao, wlz, wlj are all dead <3

Jiang cheng is like ‘ok my job here is done goodbye’ and he leaves once again

He meets wen qing and the wen remnants 

Goes to the phoenix mountain hunt, and with the combined alliance of the lan sect and jiang sect + a certain demonic cultivator, the jiangs take the wens to the jiang sect

Wen ning is still a corpse dude but wwx fixes that so he’s undead but still like. Walking n stuff

Yada yada wangxian wedding yada yada yanqing yada yada sperm donor jzx yada yada jin ling exists but he’s the jiang sect heir

post sunshot camapign, once the dust has settled

Jc keeps travelling and learning

He meets sl who is looking for xxc

They find him practically dead with a-qing next to him, alive, but just barely (listen idgaf abt canon ok)

Sl goes off to find xy, who killed xxc

Xxc, with his dying breath, tells jc where to find baoshan sanren and begs him to take care of a-qing

He dies :((

Jc tells lwj the address and long story short wwx gets his core back, making him x2 stronger as a demonic cultivator

Oof jin sect does not like that

Madam jin kicks her husband out onto the streets (’thats what you get for cheating on me so much you rat bastard’)

Jiggy is also dead. There's a certain smell of lotus flowers and even a petal next to him. No one says anything because reasons

jzx becomes the sect leader, makes mianmian head disciple and everyone’s happy

Jyl asks jc to come back to the jiang sect and be head disciple or an advisor, but he doesn’t take it

he’s welcome to cloud recesses because lqr is a bitch and would’ve liked jc over wwx and also because jc loves a-yuan and wants to see his brother often fuck you lwj

and jc is wandering the world, hunting demons, teaching his daughter about cultivation (demonic and otherwise because in this why would he hate it) and he occasionally goes home to yunmeng to see his sister and his nephew and jyl dotes on a-qing and at the end of the day he has no responsibilities and nothing to fear, and even though his father called him a coward and told him he wouldn't survive a minute alone, he knew that he had proved him wrong and attempted the impossible, and succeeded.

Ok, but can we talk about Jae and his adult model? Because while I wouldn’t call it the worst (I think this title still has to go to Merula “I-have-bird-droppings-in-my-hair” Snyde), it’s just so… boring.

First of all, I hate that his hair looks shorter and neater. His current hairstyle looks way better, but also fits his personality, in my opinion, and the whole vibe of “always tired, always asleep in classes, not quite knowing what’s going on”. But even that aside, JC’s design is just… meh? If you ask me, Adult Jae looks like he finally decided to mature and stabilise – and he’s very unhappy about it. And in a way, it’s a bit funny because I actually had that idea a while ago that Jae gets married during the Second Wizarding World, but they quickly get divorced because his wife basically wants that regular “boring” life.

But either way, this is what I’d probably do myself:

Most importantly, I think we should keep in mind two things about Jae: 1) he likes to appear cool, 2) he comes from a rather poor family that probably still struggles with money (as we know he sends his mum money even when he’s still at school). Now, for this discussion and my version of Jae, I’m gonna assume that he will get a pretty good job affter graduation (because he’s a smart boy) – therefore, he will make pretty good money, too. I’m certain he’d still support his family, but I imagine he would also want to show through his appearance that now he can afford things. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely can’t see him spending a lot on clothes and whatnot. But at the same time, I think he’d be willing to invest in quality. For example, he’d definitely have a very nice leather jacket that he’d wear like all the time. He could also invest in some more expensive accessories like a watch or shoes. Oh, and I absolutely love the idea of including his red bandana in his adult outfit!

Also, the idea of Jae with the bandana actually makes me think of Eugene Lee Yang – and no, not just because he’s also Korean. And yes, I know Eugene is an absolute fashion icon, and I don’t think it’d fully work for Jae… But on the other hand, I feel like some of Eugene’s more casual outfits do work here.

1/? Just think of LS super excited to finally start courting JL. He gives the first courting gift at a discussion conference and JL turns it down. Why? Well LS had spent his life listening to LWJ's comments about JC and it as he grew up, he had a very warped view of JL's uncle. One that JL would never accept. JC was the most important person in his life and his partner had to at least like JC.

2/2 LS's comments on his uncle were never going to be ok and JL would never be with someone who spoke about JC like that. He turns down LS and returns to sit at JC's side, glaring at everyone around them. He loved his uncle, more than anything. And his future spouse better love him too

I can see Lan Sizhui being polite for the most part but he makes these small little comments about Jiang Cheng that makes Jin Ling wonder if it was actually an insult but still makes him feel defensive. The times that he does snap back at Lan Sizhui for his comments makes everyone else around them tell him that he’s over reacting. Yeah, Lan Sizhui is handsome and smart and talented, but Jin Ling feels his crush on the other boy fade away with every little comment.

Please tell me /literally all of the behind the scenes things/ for aim to repaint these days?

Ok, so when I started 'aim to repaint these days' I was thinking about a swap rather than just the Juniors timetraveling? Like I was gonna send the Juniors back to Sunshot but simultaneously dump Sunshot-era WWX, LZ, JC and NHS in post-CQL-epilogue-land. Unfortunately, I quickly figured out that a fic like that was a little too ambitious for me--waayyyyy too many moving parts. Also I kinda wanted to be able to toss the kids at the Sunshot-era version of their responsible adults presences/sect leaders/parents.

So with my parameters redefined I focused on the kids landing in Sunshot. I had a few ideas that i didn't ultimately go through--including the classic JL-interacts-with-his-unknowing-parents scenario, but ultimately I decided not to go in that direction.

There are a few plot threads I deleted that I kinda wish I'd been able to write in full--mostly, I had a subplot of LSZ getting extremely fed up with NMJ's whole "we will kill all the Wen" attitude, since he knows how that ends for his family, and a scene with the Juniors being like "that? is senior Wei?" when looking at Sunshot-era WWX, while WWX is deeply uncomfortable with kids roughly his age calling him 'Senior.'

My favorite thing I did include was the kids' utter disinterest in helping the war effort. Because, like, it's history for them. It was won forever ago. The Sunshot-era people feel like underdogs desperately scrabbling for an upper hand while the kids see their victory as a foregone conclusion, but are much more worried about the years immediately following the war, when many of their parents died. So of course they're more worried about the postwar stuff, but poor LXC and NMJ are just baffled by it.

Also, while I know he only started taking initiative after NMJ's death, I love the idea of young!NHS actually using his brain for things other than revenge, bc by the end of the series it's very clear that he's terrifyingly smart and pretty ruthless. Like, yes, he made up a lot of his plan on the fly, but he was basically being monitored by a serial killer while trying to take said serial killer down (note: yes I agree that JGY had reasons for what he did and everything, but he did literally murder several people on different occasions relatively close together, which means he fits the technical definition of serial killer). I maintain that with the right motivation, NHS could have been a real threat (to who? anyone who pissed him off, that's who).

Anyhow, I adored writing this fic and I hope you enjoyed it.
