I fucking love this game. I'm watching @supergreatfrien play through it from years ago and it's still so good. It doesn't seem to be on Tumblr much, most of the witness tag is destiny stuff.

I don't know why I love it so much, it's just... pretty and big and oddly enthralling and just makes me feel calm and happy. Even with all the frustrations in later puzzles.

something i am utterly obsessed with is the physical copy of dracula that i recently purchased that has , as part of its foreword , some of the original idea notes that bram stoker had about what dracula’s vampiric powers/traits would be.

one of these is that dracula’s likeness cannot be captured in a painting , he always looks like someone else.

which only leads me to imagine a scenario in which the count lines many of his castle hallways with paintings of himself throughout the centuries but none of them look the same and none of them look like him but jonathan can’t help but notice they all somehow look eerily similar.

he brushes it off , assuming they are simply counts of generations past.

•–< [ Retrospective #5 ] >–• The Inktober 2019 Pile!

Folks, I am pleased to introduce to y'all my proudest relic from my drawing days past... a celebration of my passions and the gateway to all my art going forward. This is my piece for Day 31 of Inktober 2019.

Before Inktober 2019, my first drawings were simply a way to express my growing love for indie games, and a means to make overly ambitious crossovers happen. OneShot, Freedom Planet, Meat Boy, and Hollow Knight, were all some of my biggest crazes at the time, and so was Super Smash Bros, the largest gaming crossover in history. Look at all of these great characters! Who's going to sing their songs overlooked and unite them for the fan service??

Then came Inktober, circling around on Instagram. Seeing the daily prompts, I suddenly thought of putting on a theme by featuring those same indie game characters, no ink required! What would happen? Sash Lilac would pose with a V-sign for her resemblance to a "Ring"-hoarding hedgehog, "Little Ghost" and its shade would "Mindless"ly toy around with a Rubik's Cube, Snatcher would "bait" Hat Kid into the classic bag tied to a tree branch, and Tim (Braid) would pull a matrix and "Freeze" bullets in place!

The doodles started small, but soon evolved to include up to eight characters at once as my creativity skyrocketed. Those doodles will be coming soon with their own Retrospectives :)

For now, I will channel my past giddy self, and test you all on your familiarity with the world of hidden gems.

How many characters from the pile can you recognize?

I still have my big sheet of data from 2019, and the highest score is 40/65! Additionally, 13/65 characters were never identified within the pile! Let me know how it goes, and I'll let you know if you've broken the longstanding records. Now... GO!

Immediately after this, (and once Quincey was out of earshot), there was the expected huffing and puffing and I Am the Master of This Castle and These Mountains et cetera, et cetera.

Jonathan tried to ride it out in nodding noncommittal silence.

Mina, devoid of even a fraction of a fuck to give, agreed yes, of course he was. But out of curiosity, when was the last time he attended to anything to do with his title or its duties in the last, say, twenty years? She seems to recall someone of more maturity stepping in to manage every iota of the work while the Master of the Castle was busy with the terribly trying labor of, let her check her notes, strutting around being impressed with himself. Is it not so?

Dracula, doubly pissed, ready to erupt and go full Monster Mode, slipped into a fuming villain monologue--

And his voice cracked.

Jonathan was stone-faced, but white-knuckling his armrest. Mina's psychic laughter could shake the Carpathians. Quincey popped his head in to ask what's the matter, did something happen? Notably, with a pubescent pitch not that many octaves removed from the Count's.

That night was full of thunder and the next family dinner saw the Count grousing that he had no appetite tonight. Or the next. Not until he was iron grey, for some reason.

Jonathan, meanwhile, found his shaving kit mysteriously returned. Plus enough shaving lather to last a decade.

Consider this a cap to this bit of nonsense. Scruffy Winter Mode Jonathan has to get back to his clean-shaven self somehow.

(Note: If you haven't jumped on the Blood of My Blood AU, you're missing out. One of the tastiest Dracula Bad Ending stories-in-progress I've ever come across.)

I really wish Fellow Travelers (a show centred around a romance between two men who are both played by gay actors, with a production crew composed of primarily queer artists, based on a book written by a gay author and which gives much insight into the lives of queer people during key moments in queer history/politics) was getting a similar amount of buzz as Red, White and Royal Blue.

But nope, y'all are sleeping on this series so hard and it's a real shame.
