The God of Mischief is laughing beside you.
It’s quiet against the happy chatter of the TV but still sends a rush of warmth straight to your heart - like taking a straight shot of Tennessee whiskey on a winter’s evening. It’s nothing like the bitter, sardonic sound he reserves for most of the team - this laughter is light and joyous and unquestionably happy.
It’s…nice, and it’s quickly becoming your favourite sound in the world.
Much like how Loki is becoming your favourite person in the world. It’s been gradual, like the first blooming flowers of spring, and, if you’re being honest, entirely unexpected. Only a few months ago Loki was nothing more than a thorn in your side. Now, you can’t imagine your life without him.
In a short space of time, he’s become your best friend and your confidante; he’s the first person you want to run to when you have a bad day, the first person you want to run to when you have a good day, and, steadily, he’s starting to feel like home.
He isn’t a monster intent on destruction or a ticking time bomb ready to explode.
He’s just Loki, the man whose happiness is slowly becoming yours.
His chest bounces beneath your ear again. You have no idea what the narrator has just said, but it was evidently something that Loki found amusing, and his laughter pulls an easy smile across your face. “I love hearing you laugh,” you murmur quietly, nuzzling even further into his side.
Maybe it’s because the man who so many people are still quick to call a villain is reclined back on your sofa with his legs stretched out on the massive ottoman, maybe it’s because he’s cradling you to his cashmere clad chest like he never wants to let you go, or maybe it’s because of the random kisses he’s been pressing to the top of your head all evening.
Whatever it is, you’re overcome with softness for him. Behind the aloof, icy facade is a golden heart, and you’re seeing more and more of the goodness that lies within it every single day.
“Is that so? Then we should watch your little mortal box more often, darling. It’s rather endearing to hear Midgardians attempt to understand Asgard,” he reponds, mirth lighting up his voice while his fingertips trail softly along your upper arm.
He misses the fond roll of your eyes only because something else has caught his attention that he must pass comment on, and you listen enthralled while he explains the actual differences between Valhalla and Fólkvangr. You’ve both been watching this documentary on Norse mythology for over an hour, and Loki has spent a large chunk of it pointing out every wrong detail no matter how small.
Each deep, exasperated sigh and pronounced click of his tongue has you giggling like a child beneath his arm, to which he squeezes you that little bit tighter. He’s proud of himself, and it makes you wonder if he’s actually annoyed by the portrayal of his home or if it’s all an act to make you laugh.
With Loki, either is highly likely.
“Do you know what amuses me, darling?” he says lightly, still trailing those elegant fingers along your arm. You expect to hear something more about what the documentary has gotten wrong, but that’s not what comes. “A few months ago, you actively despised me. Now, I believe you would climb into me if you could.” His voice is soft, leaving no room for you to doubt that he’s only teasing.
You burrow deeper into his embrace. “I didn’t despise you,” you reply with a small smile.
His arm tightens around your shoulders again and something warm and golden blooms in the pit of your stomach. It’s too soon to call it what you know it is, but you feel the flame burn brighter with every second you spend with him.
The man you’re currently twisted around is brilliant and loving and your heart fits right in the palm of his hand. It’s safe there, you know. You trust him, even though everyone you know has warned you not to.
It’s one of the easiest things you’ve ever done.
Loki’s chest rumbles with laughter again. “Darling, you despised me,” he repeats, but you know he’s smiling along with you.
You pretend to huff, but reach out to poke his side, delighting in the way he squirms beneath your tickling touch. “I didn’t! I didn’t like you, but I didn’t despise you, either,”
“That knife you threw at me in the training room after Yule begs to differ,” he shoots back seamlessly, while you force back laughter at the memory of his face frozen in shock at your expert aim.
You shrug lightly into his chest. “Natasha told me I needed to practice more.
“Darling, I can assure you she meant to practice on inanimate objects.
You tilt your head back to peer up at him with a teasing smile. “You were inanimate; you were standing in the doorway.”
Loki releases an exasperated sigh but wraps both arms tightly around you to pull you fully into his lap. “Little menace,” he replies while you pretend to squirm in his grip. It only makes him grip you tighter until you’re clamped inescapably against his chest.
Through the rich material of his sweater, you can feel his firm chest and the taut muscles of his stomach. The man is a work of art, yet it’s you who's straddling his lap - an unremarkable mortal.
He smiles at you as you continue to admire him, and it’s a smile that’s almost shy. “What’s going on in that brilliant mind of yours, hmm?” he asks quietly, resting his hands on your hips.
“You. Thinking about you,” you answer, watching the faint tinge of pink that colours his cheeks.
His hands slide up from your hips only a fraction until he can dip his thumbs underneath the hem of your shirt to trace absentminded circles on your bare skin. It’s an innocent touch, but it sends something electric shooting along your spine.
“Oh? Do elaborate, darling,” he purrs.
Loki’s eyes are sparkling with amusement, but you can read the need for praise that’s swirling deep beneath the surface. It’s one thing you can’t deny him.
“I was thinking about how beautiful you are,” you tell him, sliding your hands from around his neck to stroke his biceps. “And how lucky I am,” you continue.
The muscles in his neck flex and you feel your resolve crumble to dust. It’s been calling out to you from the moment he pulled you into his lap, and you can no longer deny yourself the luxury of pressing your lips to his skin.
Loki’s broken inhale is instant and his fingers curl tighter around your waist. Your teeth are quickly grazing along his throat while you suck a bruise into his skin. You want to mark him, to stake your claim on him.
You want to leave no doubt that this god - this beautiful, wonderful man - is yours.
“Darling, you need -,” he begins, but it melts to a moan when you run your tongue along his neck. “Darling,” he tries again.
You silence him with a kiss. It’s slow and deep, and when you tangle your fingers in his hair to tug it, he rolls his hips experimentally against you. The hard length of him presses wondrously against you, coaxing your hips to grind down on top of him. Loki’s breath catches in his throat while he kisses you, and you know what’s coming before he even opens his mouth.
“Darling, anymore of that and -,”
“I’m ready,” you interrupt him, cupping his face in your hands. “I’m ready.”
His eyes soften as they take you in, scanning your face for even a breath of hesitation. “Are you sure?” he asks, while his thumbs return to stroking your sides.
“Yes,” you answer firmly, resting your forehead against his. “No more waiting. Please.”
In one smooth movement, his arms are wrapping around your middle to press you tightly against him. One strong hand weaves its way into your hair while his lips find yours again. There’s a new hunger to his kiss - it’s raw and possessive and filled with a need that has been simmering beneath the surface for months.
You expect him to flip you onto your back and finally make you his right here on the sofa, but his hands eagerly begin to run down your back and grip beneath your thighs. Suddenly, he’s on his feet and your legs are locking around his waist. You can’t help but giggle against his lips, because he’s not letting you break this kiss even for a second.
“Beautiful thing,” he whispers into your mouth, effortlessly carrying you from your living area and down the hallway toward your bedroom.
The Norse mythology documentary is long forgotten.
His lips stay locked to yours until your back hits the bedroom door, and only then does he break away to curse as he fumbles with the handle. You laugh quietly - because for some reason it’s oddly endearing - and press a chaste kiss to his cheek.
Loki wastes no time in kicking the door closed when you’re finally through. Vaguely, you notice a faint green shimmer cascade over the wood as it settles in the doorframe, but it’s pushed from your mind by the frenzy of kisses that Loki is pressing to every inch of your face.
“Do you know,” he murmurs, trailing a haphazard line of kisses along your cheeks, “how long I’ve wanted this? Wanted you?”
His admission fans the flames of desire burning fiercely in your stomach. How have you lasted so long without inviting him into your bed? How have you not had this man again and again until his name is seared into your soul? How have you not realised how fiercely he burns for you too?
“Then take me. Please,” you murmur against his lips.
His answering smile is soft and gives you another swift kiss. “Begging won’t be necessary, darling.”
With surprising gentleness, he lays you on the bed amongst your pile of pillows. Your legs fall open instantly for him, to which he quickly climbs between. There’s a hesitance to his movements, almost as if he’s scared to lay a finger on you.
“I’m not going to break,” you say with a smirk. “You can touch me. I need you to touch me, Loki.”
Your hands find the hem of his sweater, coaxing it along his back until he’s helping you pull it off. You’ve seen him shirtless before - many times - but your fingers still reach hungrily for his chest. Loki shivers beneath your touch and pride blooms happily in your stomach.
An unremarkable mortal you may be, but you have a god shivering beneath your fingers.
Slowly, his hands slip underneath your shirt, and cool fingers glide along your stomach to push it over your head. His eyes travel appreciatively over you before settling on your breasts.
“Enchanting, beautiful thing,” he says, leaning to press his lips to your neck.
The reverence in his voice has a rush of heat pulse between your thighs while you grasp his strong shoulders. Too many times, previous lovers have made you feel like you were nothing more than an object, something that was conveniently there for them to fuck.
Not with Loki, though. The man has barely undressed you and he’s treating you like the most precious thing his hands have ever held.
Boldly, you reach for his belt, shooting him a suggestive smirk while you unfasten it. He lets you work, diving in for another blistering kiss as you undo the button and open the zipper. The taste of him on your tongue and the feel of him beneath your fingers is electrifying, and there’s a newfound urgency in your movements as you try to push his jeans off.
After a few strategic tugs they slide over his hips, granting you the freedom to run your hands greedily over the firm swell of his ass. You can’t help but moan shamelessly into his mouth while simultaneously squeezing him with both hands. He’s a work of art beneath your appreciative fingertips.
Something close to a growl rises from Loki’s chest and he gently nips at your bottom lip with his teeth. “Are you trying to seduce me?” he purrs lightly.
Grinning, you squeeze his ass again. “It’s been my evil plan all along.”
“Ah! I’ve been bested by a beautiful little devil!” he teases and lowers his lips back to your neck.
His kisses are slow and deliberate and punctuated by the occasional nip of his teeth. You know what he’s doing; you know that every mark he’ll place on you tonight is a claim, a message to anyone who looks that he’s finally made you his.
The molten beast of arousal burns fiercer between your thighs. You hope and pray that you’ll be covered in his marks tomorrow. You want everyone to know that you belong to him.
Loki interlocks the fingers of one hand with yours, all while slowly trailing a path of kisses along your chest and down your stomach. It’s silent adoration - a god worshipping his mortal - and he only stops when his lips meet the waistband of your leggings. You feel him hesitate, feel him run the pad of his thumb across the material while he lifts his eyes to yours.
It only takes you a second to realise he’s asking for permission.
You nod quickly and breathe out a quiet “yes.”
Loki presses a final kiss to your stomach and gently squeezes your hand. He lets go to hook both sets of fingers into your leggings, taking great care not to jostle you around while he tugs them - along with your underwear - easily down your legs. You’re suddenly bare before him and, stupidly, you feel a rush of nervousness pulse through you. This man has slept with gods and goddesses and beings more beautiful than you can even imagine.
How can you compare?
Glittering green eyes travel hungrily over you. The earlier softness is still shining there clear as day, but now it’s swirling and mixing openly with undisguised lust. It causes a gentle heat to burn beneath your skin and, almost subconsciously, you attempt to cover yourself.
But Loki is having none of it.
His hands reach to clasp yours and he folds your fingers easily between his, pinning your arms to the mattress. “You are the most beautiful creature I have ever laid eyes on,” he says slowly, making sure you hear every word.
“Are you trying to seduce me?” you repeat his question back to him, though even you can hear the shakiness of your own voice.
Loki’s answering smile is infectiously boyish. “Is it working?”
He can likely hear your heart thundering in your chest, but you still reply with, “maybe. I’m not sure yet.”
“Hmm, perhaps I need to try a little harder?” he says, still grinning impishly.
His hands slide to gently grip your wrists so he can guide your arms around his neck. It’s such a simple gesture, but it makes your heart swell in your chest because he trusts you enough to touch him. You hum contentedly and tangle your hands loosely in his hair, twisting silky strands around your fingertips as he drops his lips back to your chest.
His kisses are slower now and the warmth of his lips lingers like a dream against your skin. It’s as though he finds his pleasure from simply kissing you, like that alone is enough to send him freefalling into bliss. It’s a heady thought that has your back arching, greedily searching for more of him or maybe offering up more of yourself.
You aren’t entirely sure.
Loki’s lips travel lower in tandem with his hands that are curled around your middle. His touch is so intoxicating, so wonderfully addictive that you can’t stop the quiet whimper that slips from between your lips. You feel him smile against the skin of your lower stomach, feel his thumbs trace tiny circles against your hipbones, and when he hovers just millimeters from your cunt, you automatically hold your breath.
When nothing happens you flick your eyes questioningly down to his.
Loki is gazing at you with desire storming in his eyes, so much so that they’re almost completely black. He looks like a man starved and doesn’t break his gaze from yours as he bends his head to lick a firm, slow stripe along the length of your cunt. Electricity crackles almost joyously through your blood, setting every inch of you aflame and pulling a shameless moan from the depths of your throat.
Through the haze of your desire, you feel Loki gently squeeze your hips. “Ok?” he asks quietly.
The laugh you release is short and strangled. “Y-yes! God, yes!”
A wolfish smile curls across his face. You watch transfixed as he dips back between your thighs, never tearing his eyes from yours as he buries his tongue in your cunt. A volcano of pleasure erupts in your core, twisting through every inch of you with each skillful flick of his tongue. You groan, you whimper, you grip Loki’s curls so tightly that you’re surprised he isn’t howling from the pain.
“Ugh…fuck!” you groan when he slips his hands beneath your ass to pull you closer.
His mouth is warm and wet and talented - god, it’s talented - and when his tongue begins to lap over your clit you can’t help but buck and grind against his face. You feel him hum appreciatively against your cunt, and he swirls his tongue firmly over your swollen clit once, twice more.
“Loki!” you whimper. “Fuck, Loki, keep doing that! Please!”
He’s only too happy to grant your request. His tongue traces swirls and patterns endlessly against your clit. It’s just enough pressure and just the right rhythm that the coil in your stomach quickly begins to wind tight. Every expert flick and swirl of Loki’s tongue is like diesel to a flame, setting your core alight until you’re completely engulfed by him.
If you died right now, you would greet death happily.
Loki continues to lap at your cunt like a man starved, and when your back arches off the bed, he slips his hands further beneath your back to clamp you firmly against his warm mouth. It’s pleasure like you’ve never experienced - white hot and all consuming - and before long you’re balancing beautifully on the edge.
“Loki…Loki, please…I’m…m’ gonna come!” you say, unsure if it’s a warning or a plea.
The first tendrils of your release are licking through your core and each tiny cry that passes from your lips only encourages the god between your legs. The warm wetness of his tongue laps perfectly at your clit, making stars begin to dance at the edge of your vision, but when he moans against you - a deep, satisfied rumble of sound - you know you’re gone.
Your orgasm engulfs you suddenly and without warning. The force of it sends your eyes rolling in your head and your hands tangling in Loki’s hair like a vice. His name leaves your lips in a scream to the heavens, and his head doesn’t stop bobbing between your legs until you’re panting and boneless on top of the mattress.
Amidst the lavender haze that has settled around you like a favourite blanket, you feel Loki press a soft kiss to your still sensitive clit. It makes you jolt and pulls a strangled sound from deep in your throat, but then his thumbs are drawing lazy circles over your hip bones.
I’m here.
His lips begin a slow path from between your thighs, pressing gently and haphazardly along your stomach and between the valley of your breasts. He kisses across your collarbone and dips below your chin, making sure not to miss even an inch of your throat.
Never in your life have you felt more desired.
“Exquisite,” he murmurs before his lips find yours. "Worthy of the gods.” He kisses you deeply and the taste of you is still heavy on his tongue. It’s electrifying and only serves to reignite the flames of arousal that he’s only just quenched.
You can’t help but giggle against his lips and reluctantly break his kiss. “The only god I want is you,” you say quietly, cupping his face in your hands.
He gazes down at you silently, looking as though you’ve just placed the secrets of the universe in his hands. It’s both endearing and heartbreaking - that he’s struggling to believe he’s the one you want - and it fills you with a renewed purpose to ensure this man never goes to sleep feeling unwanted.
You tug him back down until his lips are back on yours. His kiss is slower this time, languid, as though he wishes to use every last second to commit the taste of you to heart.
A god drunk on the taste of his mortal.
“Touch me. Please,” he rasps, breaking from your lips for only a second.
It’s a plea you’re only too happy to answer. Slowly - because you want to enjoy every last inch of this man - you slide your hands from where they’ve been resting on his biceps. You marvel at the broadness of his shoulders and drink in the smooth expanse of his muscled back. Lightly, you trace your fingertips along the hollow of his spine, delighting in how he shivers beneath your touch.
But it’s nothing compared to the deep, appreciative moan that tumbles from his lips when your hands once again squeeze the smooth swell of his ass.
You laugh into his mouth and rest your arms back across his shoulders. “You are so beautiful,” you whisper, raising a hand to brush some stray curls behind his ear.
He catches your wrist before it can rest your hand back on his shoulder and presses a kiss to the centre of your palm. “You, my dove, are a treasure amongst mortals,” he says softly, all while positioning himself between your welcoming thighs. His forehead finds yours at the same time his cock nudges teasingly against you. “Let me pleasure you, darling, please. Let me give you every part of me.”
Easily, you wrap your legs around his waist where they fit like a missing puzzle piece. “If you don’t, I’ll be very upset,” you tease him.
He grins widely so widely at you that the corners of his eyes crinkle endearingly. “Well, we certainly can’t have that,” he replies, and slowly, you feel him begin to ease into you.
You inhale deeply as the blunt head of his cock slips inside you. It’s barely anything at all but already your head is rolling back on the pillow and your eyes are slipping shut. You knew Loki would feel good, but nothing could have prepared you for just how good.
You want to lose yourself in the feel of his body in yours, but before you can even draw breath two cool fingers are on your chin, encouraging you to tilt your head forward.
“Keep your eyes on me, my darling,” he commands softly and you instantly snap them open. “Good girl.”
His eyes don’t leave yours as he eases himself fully inside you, giving you all the time you need to adjust. He’s big, and every added inch has you clenching joyously around him if only to hear the groans that spill from him each time you do.
“Fuck,” he groans, dipping his head between his shoulders when you clench particularly hard. “Little vixen. Beautiful little menace,” he continues, dropping haphazard kisses to your cheeks and chin.
When you can take no more of him he coaxes your hand from where it’s been clamped to his shoulder, clutching it tightly in his own as though he fears you’ll melt beneath the cotton sheets.
You can’t stop the small smile that tugs at your lips. “I’m not going anywhere. I promise,” you assure him, giving his hand a squeeze.
A quiet puff of laughter escapes him and he dips his head. You see the sheepish look that settles across his handsome face and your heart swells for him, for this man who has known more loss than many would deem fair.
You’ve barely left his side these past few months, but still he fears that he’ll lose you.
“I know,” he answers softly, sounding unmistakably embarrassed. “Forgive me. Sometimes…sometimes I still struggle to believe that someone like you chose someone like me.”
Your free hand is instantly cupping his cheek and your thumb is caressing his flushed skin. Does he know that you feel the exact same way? “I will always choose you,” you tell him firmly.
He hasn’t even been yours for a year, but you know with unwavering certainty that you would follow this man to the ends of the earth and beyond.
Loki presses his cheek into your palm and leans in to steal another chaste kiss from your lips. “My darling mortal,” he murmurs with a roll of his hips that has you groan. “My beautiful girl.”
You can’t look away as he expertly begins to build you up. You’re lost to the pretty gleam of his green eyes as they hold yours and how stray strands of ink black hair fall to frame his face; lost to the way his jaw falls slack when you roll your hips to meet his and clench around his cock; lost to how your name falls like spring rain from his lips, like it’s the only word he’ll ever need to know.
The edge crests like a wave in your core within minutes, each ripple making you dig your heels into his ass in a desperate attempt to pull him closer, deeper. Your climax is bubbling white hot in the pit of your stomach, promising to drown you in pleasure like you’ve never known if you can just tip over the edge.
“Loki…,” you cry, twisting a hand into his hair for leverage. “Loki…I’m ready…please!”
His hands grips yours like a vice. “Look at me,” he pleads, and your eyes quickly settle back on his. “Cum for me, my darling.”
With five words, you go soaring off the edge.
Your orgasm rips through you like a storm, each blinding wave of pleasure submerging you deeper until tiny white stars begin to dance at the edges of your vision. It’s all consuming and so powerful that it robs you of almost all your senses, though you’re vaguely aware of Loki burying his face in your neck as his own climax pulls him under.
He’s ruined you for anyone else.
As the final ripples of your release fade in the aftermath, you can hear Loki panting in your ear. You untangle your hand from his hair to stroke it and turn your head to press a light kiss to his temple.
“Fuck,” you breathe out. It’s all you're capable of saying as you lie boneless on the bed, still basking in the warm afterglow of your orgasm.
“Fuck.” Loki echoes, rolling onto his back and bringing you with him.
You burrow happily into his side and feel him drape an arm around your shoulders. His heartbeat is still thundering beneath your ear - something that makes pride blossom in your stomach.
“Darling?” Loki speaks up after only a minute of silence.
“Hmm?” you hum back, excitement already beginning to fizz between your legs.
“I’d like to do that again…if you don’t mind.”

LS2 episode 5 thoughts✨
The conversation Loki had with O.B. first concluded in Loki finding his "why" in order to control the time slipping. And, once he knew that and realized he needs everyone's temporal aura, where does he timeslip to? Back to Mobius. That's a sweet detail, and, similar to episode 1, reveals Loki's trust for this character. Even when Mobius doesn't remember him, Loki still believes in him. And in everything he was told back at the TVA, including the way he describe a jet-ski: "a beautiful union of form and function". Another detail that melted my fool heart was the way Loki laughed after Mobius's (or Don's, but I'm not calling him that) words: "Or did you follow me home?". They are precious.
Tumblr media
"You saw something in me that I hadn't seen in myself". That says so much. It reminisces all those times in season 1 when Mobius was by Loki's side:
"A villain" "That's not how I see it".
"You can be whatever, whoever you wanna be. Even someone good. I mean just in case anyone ever told you different".
And we can see Loki learning how to trust, how to care. For his character, this is great development. He's not the same Loki that invaded New York blinded by pain and revenge. He's returning to himself and by doing so, he's returning to what truly matters to him. His friends, his found family. All those timelines he feels burdened to protect.
"It's not about when, where, or why. It's about who." EXACTLY. The other variables are unimportant if they're not in the hands of the right person. And, after the heartbreaking moments in which Loki is the only one left standing after everything falls apart in front of him, I think he understands that. To quote Tom Hiddleston himself: "He learns what heroicism really looks like." And this "who" goes both ways: who rewrites the story, and FOR WHO this is done.
Tumblr media
"I can rewrite the story."
That line is epic! It shows the power he always had and can finally access. It puts the concept of free will in another light: it's THE story, not MY story. Also, how far back can this go? At the end of the episode, we see Loki back with O.B back when the Loom was stable. That's the point he chose, for everyone else, not only for himself. At this point, he could have gone back to Asgard, back to New York. Win it all, be king. But that's not his glorious purpose anymore. He's finally seeing what Mobius saw in him, even Thor, some time ago ("Loki, I thought the world of you."). And there was a lot of talk about stories, writing and rewriting them. That's sooo similar to the comic where Loki becomes the God of Stories!! Like, this is actually happening!
"They didn't get a choice in this".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think this is an extremely interesting conversation he had with Sylvie, in which you can see both of their points, none entirely right. For Sylvie, free will is something left untouched. No intervention, ever, just moments and paths in a disarray only the one who takes them can know them truly. For Loki, it's more of a choice. Yes, we take our own path, but sometimes we're given a choice. There is no bad or right in this game, only choices. By giving everyone a glance at the TVA, Loki realises that. What if they want that life instead of the one they already have? They wouldn't know, if not given the choice.
"I want my friends back. I don't wanna be alone"
Tumblr media
Okay, that hurt. In the time cell in episode 1, we remember Sif repeating the same thing over and over again to Loki "I hope you know that you are meant to be alone and you always will be." This says a lot about Loki's fears, and being alone is one of his biggest. But that's the thing, he found these people, he's not alone anymore! So of course it is extremely hard for him to just...give this up? It's not the first time he faces Casey and Mobius (Don?) not knowing him. His reaction "Not again" shows how scary this is, and we can obviously deduce that from the first episode. Not only everything is at risk of just disappearing into a void after the Loom explosion, when they are still there, still living, they don't remember him. Yet Loki finds a way to steady himself, and find everyone in all this mess.
But also, I don't think that wanting your friends back is something selfish, as Sylvie said. After going through different views over the same thing: "I want to stop He Who Remains" to "I want the TVA back" to finally Loki admiting that he wants his friends back, this is a matter that concerns many people, not just one. Besides, he did say that after all of it is done, they can return to their timelines as they never left. That doesn't sound really selfish to me. In fact, it reminds me of something Vision said to Wanda a whole ago: "What is grief, if not love persevering?". Then not wanting to be alone is a lack, a void persevering and waiting to be filled. And if that implies saving the Multiverse as well, then so be it (but that is definitely NOT the only reason Loki does all of this. He wants, and now can, rewrite the story for the better. For everyone, not only for himself.)
As of episode 5: Science/Fiction Loki is one of the most powerful beings in the entire MCU. Being able to travel back at any given point in time and space just by willing it into existence isn't a small thing. This, I believe, is something we deserve to see Loki in control of. Maybe it sounds a little too much to say that the whole fate of Marvel is in his hands now, but...it kinda is, isn't it? If not for Loki, we'd face the same disappearance as in Infinity War, only 100% now, not only 50.
I have been waiting and theorising for a long time that Loki will become the God of Stories. The fact that we might see it in less than a week is...something.
Also judging by the posters (which show different outfits from different times) there's a new suit we'll see him in on screen, and I can't wait!
Thanks for reading <3

Plot Twist: That old man kisses Loki
AKA I'm using my first NaNoWriMo to write random fics and drabbles I wouldn't get around to normally. When is this in the current canon? Who knows! Certainly not me :)
~~~~~
“What am I doing?” Loki breathed as he paced the now-empty judge’s room. “X-05…Brad was right. I’m a villain, and that’s all I’ll ever be. I have to stop being a hero.”
Mobius tracked Loki’s frantic movements with his eyes, unsure what the Asgardian was getting at. “You still haven’t told me what happened with Sylvie. What did she tell you?”
Loki shook his head. “It doesn’t matter–nothing I do matters.”
Mobius stepped forward as Loki let out a groan and covered his face. “Look, calm down. I’ve already told you, you can be whatever you want to be, but I can’t help you get there unless you talk to me.”
Loki lowered his hands just enough to meet Mobius’s gaze. It wouldn’t ever get old, looking into Loki’s hazel eyes, so open and yearning for trust but used to too much hurt. He took a shaky breath and explained, “I understand why nothing I’m doing is working now. She spelled it out very clearly: I hurt everyone I care about, and that’s all I’m capable of doing.”
Mobius shook his head, but Loki wasn’t done.
“Odin’s breath it’s like I was born to cause suffering wherever I go. Trying to be a hero–trying to save anything is just causing more problems.” Loki’s hands moved away to gesture dramatically as he became more frantic. “I should just do what the other Lokis did and hole away in some forgotten part of the universe where I can’t hurt anyone anymore. I am alone and I always should be, it’s better for everyone.”
Mobius took another step forward and grabbed Loki’s wrists to still them. Without thinking, he blurted, “It’s not better for me.”
“What?” Loki breathed, but quickly shook his head. “I promise you it is, Mobius. You should get far, far away from me before I destroy you and everything you care about.”
“I care about you,” Mobius countered, feeling bold in the wake of Loki’s despair. “So where does that leave us?”
“Mobius,” Loki sighed. His eyes were wet now, and he looked terrified. “I’m a plague on everyone who meets me. I’m unloveable.”
“Now that is just not true at all,” Mobius laughed, trying to look reassuring. Inside, he was chaos. Showing his cards like this left him feeling torn open. But Loki needed to hear it. “I have evidence saying otherwise.”
Loki opened his mouth to say something in response, but nothing came out and Mobius felt his hands begin to shake. The god began to look away in shame, and it snapped all of Mobius’s remaining restraints. He surged forward, using his grip on Loki’s wrists to pull them closer until their lips connected.
Loki breathed in sharply through his nose but otherwise remained rigid. When Mobius began reluctantly pulling back, however, he seemed to recover, twisting his arms so that he was grasping Mobius instead, and pressing forward with urgency that changed the kiss to something more passionate. Mobius gripped Loki’s coat to regain his balance in the face of the sudden assault, and Loki’s now free hand slid up to cradle Mobius’s head, fingers threading through the short hairs there.
Loki tried to deepen the kiss even further, but Mobius felt out of breath in a way he’d never experienced before and it put him in danger of fainting. He used his hand on Loki’s coat to gently push him away. Not too far, just enough to breathe.
“Mobius,” Loki gasped, pressing in again to lean their foreheads together. He didn’t seem better off. Mobius could feel his panting breaths against his lips.
“You can’t be unlovable,” Mobius managed to say. “Because I fell in love with you a long time ago.”
Loki looked up through his lashes. “Not the smartest choice.”
Mobius huffed a small laugh. “I like my chances here.”
Loki made a small noise and closed the distance between them again. Mobius had to disagree–this was probably the smartest choice he’d made in his entire life.
I wanna talk about this today.
Tumblr media
Mostly I want to talk about objective truth versus subjective truth. But let me start with what's happening in this scene. (Spoilers for Original Sin and Loki: Agent of Asgard)
So in this moment from Original Sin: Thor and Loki in the Tenth Realm, Loki is talking to the queen of the Angels about what happened in the previous issue of Agent of Asgard. Loki has been working for the All-Mothers in an attempt to erase his past crimes and start anew, but discovered that they were taking cues from Old Loki in order to ensure the future he said would come about, a future in which there was (mostly) peace in Asgard, Thor was king and All-Father, but Loki was still the villain. It was a price they were willing to pay for peace. So Loki's grappling with this in this issue, along with having to deal with Thor's reckless attempts at recovering their long-lost sister (not Hela).
So then the queen says, "[The Asgardians will] never understand you, god of what works. Go ahead, use your truth-sword. Tell me you don't know I'm right."
The sword she is referring to is Gram, the sword that Loki stole from Asgard's most famous hero, Sigurd, which was forged at Old Loki's bidding when he went further back in time to ensure it would exist for the current Loki to claim (the timeline gets confusing in AoA). The sword forces those it wounds to face the truth of themselves and their actions.
But truth comes in different forms, objective truth and subjective truth. Objective truth is indisputable fact, and if you say something otherwise it would simply not be true. "Earth orbits the sun" is an objective truth. We can and have proven it. Subjective truth is something that may be true for you but is not necessarily objectively true. This is why the testimony of innocent bystanders is sometimes not permitted in court. For whatever reason, you may be completely convinced that the person you saw stealing a tv from Best Buy at 2:16PM three weeks ago was wearing a blue shirt, so convinced you'd be willing to say so under oath. They could attach you to a lie detector, and the results would say you were telling the truth. However, when they get the CCTV footage, the person was wearing a red shirt. You weren't lying; your memory had you convinced it was a blue shirt. You believed it was the truth, so you believed you were telling the truth. This is how lie detectors work (theoretically; there's also the part that it only detects physical changes that only sometimes mean someone's lying anyway), and how truth serums (in various media or CIA conspiracy theories your subjective truth may or may not have you believe) are supposed to function.
Now, it could be argued that Gram functions as a detector of objective truth. Previously in AoA, it forced Thor to come to terms with the influence an infection of evil had on him (I don't remember exactly what happened, but essentially Old Loki more or less invaded Thor like a virus and forced him to act rather nastily). He didn't seem to realize what was happening until Loki stabbed him with Gram. This is a valid argument, and honestly I don't understand this scene enough (I think a lot of background for it came from other comics if I remember correctly) to make an authentic counterargument.
However Gram acts with Thor, though, I do believe in the above panel, Gram functions like a lie detector or truth serum. The "truth" Loki speaks is subjective truth. He believes it's true, so Gram is essentially like, "Sure, yep, sounds about right."
But because Gram doesn't do whatever it does when someone lies (or maybe because it functions like Wonder Woman's lasso, and you simply can't lie when you're wounded by it), it just further convinces Loki that his beliefs about his inability to be loved are true. Or he's aware that this may merely be a subjective truth, but because he knows how the sword works and he's banking on the queen not understanding the difference between types of truth, he's using it to gain her trust. He still can't lie while holding Gram, so either what he says is 100% indisputably true in an absolute sense, or he wholeheartedly believes it to be true with such certainty that it doesn't matter that it isn't objective. He may be saying it to gain her trust, but he also still believes it.
And I'm in pain.
I don't understand why marvel is trying to think of a way to pivot onto a different main villain when they could just recast kang??? I mean loki and no way home both made it canon that all the multiverse variants don't have to be Identical. they've spent so much time setting up for the multiverse war or whatever like I can't imagine them successfully changing directions at this point. just recast the dude??
I'm gonna get hate for this, but I just have to say I do not get how anyone can see Loki and Mobius's relationship as anything more than a casual friendship. Especially after I rewatched the first season and all Mobius does is insult Loki, talking down to him condescendingly, and reminding Loki constantly of the fact that he is an untrustworthy villain. That doesn't change until like episode five, and there's only six episodes.
So I'm just gonna say this again: Fetishizing queer men is homophobic, and Loki being in love with a woman does not negate his bisexuality and does not make him any less queer.
I also want to clarify that I am not pro-Sylki. I don't love the ship or hate it. I think it's a flawed metaphor for self-love, but also an interesting nod to the source material -- Young Avengers (2014-2015) and Thor: Journey Into Mystery (2011). Incestous relationships are also a solid element of the horror genre--
Psycho (1960)
Bates Motel (2013)
The Hills Have Eyes (1977/2006)
Flowers In The Attic (1987)
OldBoy (2003)
And those are just the examples that I can think of off the top of my head. So, to me, the Sylki ship is anything but romantic. It's tragic because when a consensual incestous relationship develops between two people it's because of shared trauma and a sense of isolation that makes the people feel like no one outside their family could ever understand them enough to love them in a romantic sense. So self-loathing, I guess?
But it just grosses me out to see people fetishizing queer people. Especially because it's something that I as a bisexual have to put up with a lot.
And like, seriously, if you're a straight woman who has ever complained when someone's made a joke or comment about you exploring the possibility of being with another woman, you're a hypocrite.
"Oh, well they did it first!"
That's your defense -- what, are you five?
That doesn't make it okay.
Y'all can say I'm starting drama or whatever. I don't give a shit. If you're getting defensive over this post then there's a reason for that and you might wanna do some introspection. I've been keeping this to myself, okay, but I had to say something before my fucking head explodes cause it's not okay.
No one should be fetishized, regardless of their sexuality or gender.
Queer people are not sex toys.
Oh so they're just going to pretend like last episode didn't happen and go straight to finding Sylvie.
Cool.
(Rant)
Mobius and Loki almost died and we aren't going to get even a scene showing the aftermath??? Wasn't Mobius hit by the temporal aura (whatever it's called)? Didn't Mobius ask what took so long? Didn't Loki explain why he said they needed to find Sylvie after time slipping? No one said anything? Or am I supposed to believe Mobius wouldn't lose his absolute shit when he found out he almost died because Loki was too busy making googly eyes at Sylvie.
Ok. Ok. Maybe to be fair they really said nothing. In E1 Loki told Mobius very little what happened at the end of time. In E2 we see Mobius burying his feelings hard--even worse than Loki. But at least show that. Mobius in E2 seemed completely different. I get he's probably putting on an act because he really doesn't want to think about his life but come on.
Actually you know what? I think he was putting on an act for the whole episode. Call me delusional but I don't care. In the beginning, Mobius seems really happy to be looking for Sylvie. I think that was true but for other reasons. It's clear Mobius doesn't want anything to change. He doesn't want to think of a life he could've had so he needs to keep being an analyst. Before shit hit the fan that was searching for Sylvie. The whole thing is a game for him. It's why Loki was so serious and Mobius didn't really seem to care. He rather have a drink with Brad and play games. Normally Mobius wouldn't be so easily fooled but he was while Loki was the one paying attention. He's obviously going through the motions. He's happy again when he and Loki are trying to figure out the TemPad. Of course, it doesn't last long as the interrogation follows.
Let's talk about the interrogation. God I want to talk about it so bad because what the fuck. So Mobius warns Loki that Brad is an asshole (Mobius keeps swearing and I'm so here for it) and to not lose his temper. So I immediately think okay Loki is going to go off on this dude because why not? He'll do anything for Sylvie. The gang walks in and Mobius did not lie at all. Brad goes off on everyone. He's laying into Loki the most of course while Mobius keeps trying to keep Loki calm. Brad's speech also mimics several conversations Loki and Mobius had in S1. Brad basically says what Mobius said to Loki in S1. He drills that Loki is a villain and only brings suffering and pain but instead of twisting it around like Mobius did it changes into something that Loki yelled at Mobius towards the end of S1. Brad doesn't twist it into something hopeful or give Loki a choice no he tells Loki that at the end of the day he's lying to himself, that he can't play the hero. Yes that isn't exactly what Loki said to Mobius but it's eerily similar to the "lies you tell yourself" in S1. I understand if that made no sense but I'm just saying that it's super interesting to see the difference between Mobius and Brad.
Anyways so Loki starts to spiral and it seems like he's going to say fuck it. They even cut to Mobius's concerned face. I do love though that no matter what happened Mobius let Loki take the lead. Yes, he kept butting in but it seemed like he was reminding Loki that it was okay. It was like his way of proving Brad wrong. He was trying to tell Loki he trusted him and that he was with him.
I will say that Brad said the one thing I'm sure everyone in that room was thinking, "You're too obsessed with her. You need therapy." Honestly Brad you were so real for that. But he wasn't done yet. This man then had the audacity to tell Mobius to control his pet. And Mobius smiles and tells a fucking joke about Brad disappearing?? And Loki smiles at it?? I'm sorry but what is going on? Mobius I love you. I was so disappointed that they didn't let Mobius lead the interrogation because he would've rocked it. But Loki failed so Mobius said fuck it and did not disappoint. He literally got one line in and it was telling Brad he's going to disappear with a smile on his face. Mobius is ruthless.
This is where we circle back to the point I was making before... several paragraphs ago... I'm sorry. Brad goes off on Mobius and Mobius takes it for a little bit. You can tell what Brad is saying is getting to him. He's making points that even Loki is reacting too. Points that Loki should've talked to Mobius about already. It seemed like Loki was just then realizing that Mobius hadn't brought up his life at all. That Mobius had been acting like nothing was happening. Which was interesting to see. Finally, Loki seems to pay attention to Mobius for 5 seconds. Of course that's interrupted by Mobius slapping the hell out of Brad. Thus making it clear Mobius has been freaking out for a while but hiding it. They were both probably having a panic attack at the same time. The whole time Loki was running around in a panic Mobius put his fears aside and focused on Loki. It's incredibly sad. Did he feel he couldn't confide in Loki? It really hurts that this poor man had his world turn upside down and not once did Loki bother to ask him about it. Loki had to think it was odd that Mobius just stopped trying to burn down the TVA. Mobius deserves better.
I am happy that Loki stopped worrying about Sylvie for 2 seconds to chase after Mobius who clearly wasn't okay in the slightest. "He got under your skin" and "I was following you" Sir? Do you even know where you're at? Loki's dumbass doesn't know what to do either and takes Mobius to get some pie. As if that's going to fix anything. Mobius admits he lost it a little bit and Loki tries to relate and uses the battle of New York as an example of a time he lost it. ??? I'm sorry? Honey, Mobius punching someone isn't the same as you trying to conquer a city. You suck at this. Thankfully Loki cares enough to dig into why Mobius has no desire to at the very least see what his life could be like. Honestly, though Mobius's answer makes sense. Of course, he doesn't want to know. He's all about free will and deciding your own path. Why would he care what path he was on? It's a path he was supposed to be on but now he isn't. He got to escape the sacred timeline, he has always seen that as a blessing which is why he fought so hard to rescue Loki. The thing that annoys me though is Loki moves on so fast. I get he probably respects Mobius's decision. After all, if he saw a happy life that was taken from him that would suck. But why not ask what Mobius really wants to do? No one would blame Mobius if he got up and left. He now has the free will to do whatever he wants and yet he stays at the TVA. It would have been interesting for Loki to point out that Brad was kind of right. That it isn't healthy to pretend like nothing happened. I could see Mobius getting angry and pointing out that technically Loki is hiding from his reality as well. But of course, we can't spend too much time developing Mobius or his relationship with Loki, we have to get back to Sylvie.
Interrogation 2 happens and they finally get the info they wanted. The whole time I was thinking "damn this really seems like a Mobius plan," only to be proven right. Of course, Mobius immediately jumps to torturing Brad and calls it a "little bit of mischief". Again I have to ask, sir are you okay? Mobius is fucking terrifying.
I think the answer is no. When they take Brad to McDonald's Mobius is acting strange again. He's snapped back into acting like everything is okay. He ignores Sylvie and Loki talking and is being nice to Brad -- the man he punched within the last 10 minutes). Mobius is petty and as we now know hides his feelings until he explodes. He is clearly trying to distract himself with the food. Brad starts to freak out and Mobius tries to dismiss it but can't by saying that the relationship (between Loki and Sylvie) is complicated. But his petty ass can't stop there and adds that opposites attract in the same breath as him saying that Loki is in a relationship with themself. Mobius is really out there saying that opposites attract and Loki and Sylvie aren't opposites. Brad then says it's weird and I'm waiting for Mobius to agree but this man goes, "hey isn't it cool that 10 minutes ago you said I was nothing and then I punched you and got a God to torture you?" Mobius are you good? For the love of jetskis stop deflecting. You can't just torture Brad again because you're too much of a coward to talk to Loki. I will say good on Mobius for figuring out it was a trap. The slap on Brad's arm and the angry "Hey!" Will live in my mind for far too long. Like I said Mobius is scary as hell.
Lastly, I want to talk about the end (yes I'm almost done with my rant -- yay!). I hate that Sylvie continues to be pissed at Loki and the whole TVA. Loki and the others are trying their best. She didn't give them a chance. She just made a decision for everyone else and got pissy when they couldn't fix her mess. Honestly fuck right off. That's all I want to say about her. Anyways the thing that broke my heart was Loki saying, "Please, don't. It's harder to stay." I'm sorry but what the fuck does that even mean? Maybe I'm interpreting this wrong but does he mean that if she isn't around it's hard for him to stay at the TVA? If I'm right, then what the actual hell? Your friend Mobius is hanging on by a thread and you want to abandon him? You're all he has. He isn't close with hunter B15, OB, and Casey like he is with you. Mobius never once abandoned Loki. And yea I get that he does go over to Mobius and puts his hand on his shoulder but he only does it after getting rejected yet again by Sylvie. Hell Mobius probably just heard that Loki doesn't want to stick around. Are you seriously telling me that Loki is just using the TVA and Mobius to find Sylvie? At least last episode he wanted to go find her and fix the mess that she made.
Please stop chasing after someone who doesn't care about you in the slightest.
have you seen the new loki spoilers? I don't know if you want to be spoiled (let me know and I'll link you) but according to them they're doubling down on everything we disliked in season 1. More Sylvie, more Larry pining, more romance. Sighs
I don’t think I have seen the spoilers, but I would love a link! It’s very considerate of you asking for consent before sending the link. Thank you.
I’m including a cut since I’ll mention some older spoilers for season 2 underneath.
That said, after I finally made myself watch the trailer I got exactly the same feeling. For me it looked very much like this season is focused on Sylvie’s character arc, which by itself isn’t a bad thing. (I just wished they would leave Loki out of it, so I could skip it without second thought.) Despite me not being interested in Sylvie, from a story-telling perspective I agree that she deserves more screen time to get a fulfilling character arc. I just dislike the message that anyone, be it women or men, would need a relationship to become better or whole. Amatonormativity is fucked up, especially for a character so many othered people identify with because he doesn’t adhere to the traditional Christian values. Values that teach you aren’t successful if you don’t have a job, a house a wife and children. Loki should be chaotic. Hell, Sylvie should be chaotic. Arguing they both need anyone to be complete is a disservice for all those who struggle to keep a deeper relationship for whatever reasons. That doesn’t make one lesser.
I think one of the earliest spoilers I heard were about an older version of Sylvie who allegedly led the TVA, implying she went dark side. This trope is often used to give a younger hero (or in this case variant) the chance to “do better”. In the trailer, Loki and Sylvie cast this massive green wave of magic while holding hands. This is most likely about them being strong together and incapable alone. (subtitle, isn’t it?) so, yeah, I expect this season to hammer down the message that their relationship is the only thing that could save the multiverse, while the lack of it would make them both die or become irredeemable villains with a sledgehammer.
Sadly, I can both see and understand all that and still am unable to let go of my Loki-obsession for good. Perhaps I should write a fan letter to Dante, proposing this concept for another circle of hell. Given the fact the divine comedy is basically a self-insert fanfic where he imagines meeting all the people who admires I think it should meet the premises. 😩
Ok, this got long for a simple “yes please”. 🙈 sorry!! So, yes please! Give me all the discouraging spoilers! Kill my hope! I beg you!! 😭
Thinking about how much the Zimvoid arc and Loki season 1 had in common.
Like, both of them star a villain protagonist who ends up trapped in an apocalyptic wasteland populated almost entirely by alternate versions of themselves, most of whom all suffer from the same vice of needing to scramble for power to prove their superiority while a handful of more enlightened versions of themselves reject competition in favor of cooperation. They even both have a kid version of themselves as the leader of the cooperative faction along with an older, wiser version, an aquatic version, and a huge beefcake version.
Of course because Loki is a drama and Invader Zim is a tragedy, the stories take different directions with their character arcs. In in a drama, the story is driven by characters having a flaw that they overcome or a false belief that is corrected, or possessing virtues that allow them to triumph, which all goes toward supporting whatever the story's thesis is. In a tragedy, the story is driven by characters who fail to overcome their flaws, who either never learn their lessons and change or just keep getting worse and worse, or who either abandon their virtues or let their vices win out over them, or whose virtues aren't enough for them to succeed without the support of the world around them backing them up.
Because Loki is a drama, Loki's story is about having his ego broken down so he can be built back up into a better man. He's humbled upon finding himself powerless in the TVA, forced to confront the ugly truth about himself and understand the neediness and insecurity at the root of his obsession with power and superiority. He meets other versions of himself who reflect his worst qualities back at him but also show him that he has the capacity to be better. He learns to be empathetic and care for other people besides himself and causes greater than his own ambitions, but also learns to love himself from falling for another version of him and recognizing that that all the qualities he admires her for are qualities that they share.
By contrast, Zim goes through his experience with the Zimvoid unchanged. Meeting other versions of himself and seeing them all compete for power doesn't make him self reflect on his own pettiness and meeting better versions of himself doesn't inspire him to do better. He doesn't learn to empathize with other versions of himself and doesn't learn to value himself for his own intrinsic qualities. If anything, the experience makes him worse because defeating all the Zims only reaffirms his false belief that his worth comes from his superiority over others.
Loki and the Zimvoid are essentially telling the same story, but the genre makes all the difference to the outcome.
One thing the Zimvoid does though that I really wish Loki had done is support its themes by making the villain another version of the protagonist.
Like, I remember when Loki season 1 first aired everyone was expecting Kang to be behind everything just because it would tie-in with the greater Marvel universe and I was saying I really hoped it would be Loki himself instead. Because Kang wasn't a character in the show until the very end. He had no personal relationship with Loki, he was just some guy we'd never met before. And literally everything else in the show was about Loki being in conflict with himself. It would've made so much more thematic sense if his line early on in the series about his plans to take over the TVA and become the most powerful being in existence was foreshadowing a reveal that one version of him had already done it and the reason he was pruning all other Loki variants who strayed from the path that would lead them to death was because he didn't want any other Lokis to overthrow him or mess up his timeline and throw him off the path that got him to where he was. Kang did end up still tempting Loki with the opportunity to have everything he ever wanted as a final test of his character growth, but it just didn't feel as impactful coming from a stranger as it would've from another Loki.
With the Zimvoid though, we got Zib as the absolute perfect villain for the story. A dark reflection of both our protagonists who are themselves mirrors of one another, reflecting all their worst qualities back at them and showing them the folly of basing their self-worth around proving their superiority over others.
Hello! I’m not certain that the ask box is the place for this(pretty new to tumblr), but I really wanted to let you know just how much I enjoy the writing you do. I found your a03 towards the end of 2021, and since then I’ve read through everything there and a lot of this blog. (I have tried and mostly failed to navigate live journal.) I absolutely adore your work. Like, it’s going to be hard for me to express just how much joy your writing brings me. But I know that positive feedback is important so I am going to try.
1) The world. Your stories from district two have some of the best worldbuilding that I have ever had the chance to see. It’s hard to explain, but you are very good at making stories that exist in time. The Centre and the Victor’s village have so much depth and weight to them. I can tell that choices were made for a reason, both in the story and outside of it. I feel like every background character could have an entire book written on them, and because of the scale of your writing, a whole lot of them do. District Two feels so real. I understand the career system and why District two didn’t rebel and how all of it adds to the themes that Suzanne Collins wrote THG to address. It’s really extraordinary. When I read hunger games fanfic by other people, I often find myself hoping district 2 will win.
2) The characters. Like above, you have an amazing sense of how characters age and grow over time. They all feel so real, and you are so good at giving each Victor a unique, changing philosophy. Lyme’s gradual path to rebellion, Ronan’s fight to protect his district, even the outlying victors have consistent characterizations. And to make things even more impressive, these characterizations stay consistent across AUs! Normal Alec and Victor Alec are so clearly the same character and it’s just really, really good. Your villains are also utterly despicable. Your version of Coin makes my skin crawl, especially in the ‘canon’ stories where only Enobaria lives. I think my favorite characters are Lyme and Claudius, but everyone is so well done.
3) Self indulgent stuff. As someone who spends too many hours in the day thinking about Marvel, I adore your Avengers Games fics from like 2012. The characters in that are also remarkably well written. The characters in that fic who were in the mcu at the time (the og avengers + loki) feel more in character than in most fan stuff that Ive read. (Is that story continued on the live journal? I really haven’t explored that site). Also, it’s been great to see another person online with similar opinions on TNG, especially on Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. So many fanfic writers forget that Katniss is a flawed girl trying her best, and they also ignore the real, serious issues that Collins wanted to explore with the series. You don’t do that. You don’t glorify the games, but you still manage to make your arena stories exciting and action packed. To quote a recurring theme from the series, you know who the real enemy is. Sorry if that sounded pretentious.
You have clearly put so much time and love into these fanfics over the last twelve years. I am honored that I have had the chance to read millions of words of your work, and I wanted to thank you for that. I hope you are doing well with whatever you do in your offline life!
WHOOPS ABOUT THE LIVEJOURNAL I have it set up as best I can with the tags and the masterlists but it was a different era and if you're not used to it I think it's probably a bit obtuse
the Avenger Games AU, I never did continue that first story, but there are various spin-offs here
the Victor Selene AU is here
the Canon Divergence AU continues here
but ahhhhhhhh thank you what a wonderful comment! :) that is lovely and makes me very happy and I'm going to save this for bad days, honestly. it is so weird to have such a huge cast of characters that can't go anywhere else (you really cannot file the serial numbers off this universe, it is intrinsically tied to canon and honestly, I think that's a good thing) but I like it! no pressure to do anything but stay here and have fun with other people having fun
Also, I'm lowkey considering removing some (canon) muses. I don't know who I'd remove but most likely Jayce & Viktor would be on the list. As much as I love them as characters, I don't feel I have muse for them as much as I'd like to. Less so Viktor than Jayce. Viktor I have more muse for for whatever reason. However, I am not entirely sure about it, and would welcome feedback. I also might remove (well, I never added them properly anyway) Anissa Pierce/Thunder & Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, at least until I can rewatch Black Lightning & finish the MCU. I got into Marvel pretty late and in a roundabout way, so I never saw all the movies. I only started seeing them around the time Captain Marvel & Black Panther came out. And I haven't seen all of them since then, because some of them require knowledge from things I haven't yet seen. Currently up to The Avengers in my watch of the MCU movies, and I'm struggling to get through it. (Mostly because of Loki, if I'm being honest. I kinda liked him now he's pure evil for some ???? reason???? and I get it. The movie needs a villain. But I'd just like to know why tbh. Maybe it's explained later idk. I like for characters to have consistent motivations, or at least some motivations that I understand & can point to as to why they're doing XYZ thing. You know? And also because I feel like Marvel's characters are secondary to its plot which I also get. The movies are full of plot. But I need to have someone that I care about or I struggle to watch. And rn I'm struggling to care about anyone.)
Also, in a similar vein if there are any muses you'd like to see me portray, whether canons or types of OCs, feel free to let me know. Always open to feedback, I welcome it tbh.
Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness Review (Spoilers)
SPOILER WARNING!
Just got out of the theater and boy do I have thoughts on this movie and what it could have been.
First, I have to say this one really disappointed.
Let’s put aside the blatant McGuffin-ing of the various “magic books.”
Let’s put aside how underdeveloped the America Chavez’s plotline was, to the point where she’s basically just there to be a plot device and check the box for “people seem to like the spunky daughter meets grumpy dad plot”, without really understanding what makes that plot fun.
Let’s put aside the way the movie expects us to care about Strange and Christine’s profoundly underdeveloped and underwhelming relationship.
Let’s put aside the way this movie introduces a complicated new multiverse theory that does the exact same thing as Loki’s time-based multiverse theory, but for some reason seems to be different? (So now we can track infinite multiverses on both the x and y axis, I guess, where x is time and y is idk dreams or something. Are spiders z? or another y? Anyways, if you’re not on the x axis the TVA doesn’t give a fuck).
Let’s even put aside the way the movie throws out the complexities of Wanda Maximoff’s character, developed in the profoundly more successful and interesting Wandavision, with the vague handwave of “Darkhold make you Bad.”
EVEN THEN
This movie is middling at best. Strange himself is largely a medium for snark and quips. He’s told several times what a control freak he is, and how that’s a bad thing, but the “prime” Strange we follow never actually demonstrates that flaw, and is less interesting for it.
But Wanda has always been more interesting than him, and the movie is at its most engaging when it’s a horror movie starring her.
I think the version of this movie I wanted to see, which would not have been difficult to write, could even largely follow the same plot - is not Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, but Wanda Kills the Marvel Multiverse. Doctor Strange can be there trying to stop her if he has to be. I’ll allow it.
Since we’ve already apparently decided Wanda’s going to go “full bad guy,” let her chew the scenery some more. Let her go full horror movie slasher. Sure she mows through the Illuminati. That was cool! Now I want to see her do it again, to someone that matters.
We’ve got infinite disposable universes and heroes now, let Wanda chew her way through all of them in pursuit of Doctor Strange and whatever McGuffin you have to give him to justify it. They can be second long cameos. Let her use the full extent of her weird and psychological reality warping powers. The disposable nature of the multiverse makes for the perfect excuse to remove the usual feeling of invincibility from superheroes so we can actually dip toes into the dread of the horror genre.
Let Wanda Westview the Avengers, let her Carrie and Freddie Kreuger and Jason her way through whatever disposable otherworld Marvel teams you can throw at her. You don’t even need to hire the big actors, we already know there’s other Spidermen and Thors and Captain Americas and Hulks and any old suit can be Iron Man. Let her devastate old bad guys, roll through Destroyers, Ultrons, Hydra, people with alternate-world Infinity Stones. She can kill characters you want to set up, or homages to heroes or villains you’ll never touch again. Have fun with it. Get wild, that’s what people want from a multiverse movie.
Not only does making the movie about Wanda give us a chance to revel in her power and anger, and the horror of having her as an enemy, but more screentime can give us an opportunity to find a little depth in her again too. On her way through the Marvel catalogues, does anyone resonate with Wanda, or slow her down for a minute? Does Professor X have a cautionary tale about Jean Grey? What happens if she encounters a Vision, or a Quicksilver? Or her own parents? When she stands off against herself, maybe let that play out a little longer?
I think this movie could have its cake (terrifying uber bad guy Wanda) and eat it too (give her some depth) if they were just willing to make the movie about her. Give her space to actually say something. Then if you have to send her off, it won’t feel like it’s for nothing.
Anyways, if this leaves you hungry for a good multiverse movie, with a deadly omnipotent villain who still has some depth, I highly recommend Everything, Everywhere, All at Once. Sorry this was so long.
Oh thank God, someone else that didn't like Ragnorak. I *despised* that movie for how it just threw out years of characterization, motivations, and style for the sake of juvenile comedy. Why the hell would you hire a man to direct the third movie in a trilogy and the whatever movie in a connected universe ***that didn't like the first two?***
I weep for how Thor, Loki, and Bruce Banner were just absolutely trashed with that movie.
Friend, saaaame! I don't usually talk about this on main, but I hated that movie so much. I'm gonna be ranting about it under the keep reading, but please nobody from the MCU fandom come to debate with me about these things. I obviously will be very critical of Thor Ragnarok, and keep in mind, I haven't seen it since I watched it in theaters in 2017 and also have not watched Love and Thunger.
The first two Thor movies (and the first Avengers, which is crucial to Thor and Loki) were full of problems and were pretty campy, but there was a lot I liked about them too, specifically the characters of Thor and Loki and their dynamics with each other, the potential in the Warriors Three and Sif, and the fantasy-based sci-fi world they were partially set in and also because I love mythology.
Not only did they completely change the setting of the series from 'fantasy based sci-fi heavily centered around Norse mythology' to 'just sci-fi that sometimes reminds you that this is technically involving Norse gods but that part doesn't really matter,' and not only did they change the vibes from 'comedic and action driven but also dramatic series heavily involving complicated and nuanced relationships' to 'just an action comedy with the same kind of jokes you've heard a million times and have long gotten sick of,' but....You're right, they trashed characters to get there.
Thor was one of my favorite characters, because despite the fact that I thought that the movies fumbled and mishandled things, Thor as a character had understandable growth that improved his character without changing it too drastically. In Thor 1, he learned not to be such a hothead, to be more peaceful than aggressive, and he learned some humility and to not be such an asshole. Also he suffered a supposed loss that was believably horrible for him that probably drove these lessons home all the more. In Avengers 1, Thor is still a bit of a hothead and still definitely likes a fight (I'm specifically thinking about the time when he went to fight Tony for the first time in the forest and looked at Loki like he was making sure Loki was watching and Loki looked back with this look like 'yeah bro I am watching lol this will be fun.') But despite clearly having some of the same qualities he had before, Thor had learned lessons and so he was more thoughtful, he clearly made an effort to get along with people, and where he once would've just yelled at Loki to know his place, he tried to have at least two meaningful conversations with him. And that carried into Thor 2, as well. Thor became a more careful, humble person who gave chances and saw good things in others. Thor Ragnarok threw that aside to make him basically Star Lord 2.0, an obnoxious smug asshole. And I can't get over the fact that he used the taser on Loki. One of my friends got angry at me for 'double standards' when I protested about that, because I liked Loki despite him doing bad things, but Thor is the protagonist hero who I'm supposed to root for, not the gray-morality wildcard sometimes-villain! Thor became basically a more tired version of who he was at the start of Thor 1, and I was so sad.
Sif was just???? Completely missing???? At least they acknowledged Jane's existence, but I kept waiting for Sif and they just pretended like she hadn't ever existed. The addition of Valkyrie was nice, but it's like they decided they could only have one powerful woman in the series. In my opinion, sidelining Sif was unforgivable. As for the Warriors Three, they killed like all of them and we never even see Thor react if I remember correctly! These were his very best friends and they got murdered and the movie didn't even let the audience take a moment to process that! The movie really read like the person who was making the movie actively hated the other Thor movies and was doing whatever they could to make Ragnarok bear next to no resemblance to the other movies in the series.
The rock guy was not funny, point blank period. He was some people's favorite character, but I thought he was just, pointless. Just the joke machine for their tired unfunny jokes. Hulk was kind of just as pointless and unfunny, and though Bruce had some of the only somewhat funny lines, he also was different from how he had been in Avengers, and again... What was the point of his character being there? I didn't like the Gamemaster or whoever Jeff Goldblum was, I thought that plotline could've been interesting, but instead was just... Boring and didn't matter. Odin was badly done too, and the way that Loki having been impersonating him ended up just not mattering either was so vexing. What else? Oh yeah, Hela was just as badly done as the villain in Dark World was, if not more so. I could deal with him being pointless and not getting a lot of depth, because what I really cared about was the sibling dynamic between Thor and Loki, but Hela should have been involved in that sibling dynamic, and they were too busy with their pointless otherworld drama that didn't matter to actually pay attention to her. What we got was a villain that was really built up but that we all knew wasn't gonna actually matter at the end of the movie, just like the villain in Dark World.
But you know what? All of that sucked, but I could get over it... If they'd put effort into writing Thor and Loki's relationship. It was literally my favorite thing about the MCU. I could talk for hours about how I think that having different directors and writers for the movies messed with Loki's character because I don't think there was communication there for a clear story (despite the fact that I headcanoned up my own reasonings,) but Loki - love him or hate him - is a nuanced character with a lot of tragedy surrounding him and his story. Despite the fact that there was a lot of comedy in the other movies, Thor and Loki's relationship was one that was by and large treated with the nuance it deserved. At the end of Thor the Dark World, they had been working together, they'd gotten to a better place, and Thor literally verbalized that a lot of the devaluing of Loki had been bad and he thought Loki actually had been a better option for king than he had been iirc, and Loki used his Odin disguise to give Thor the affection and approval of the father he clearly loved who had been acting horrible through the whole movie. And not only did the next movie trample all over all that work to make the relationship more shallow, but they didn't take anything seriously. I knew I was gonna hate that movie the moment I saw the stupid play scene where Loki was disguised as Odin. Loki was protective of and ashamed of his heritage as a Frost Giant because he'd been raised to believe they were monsters, and that heritage wasn't just common knowledge, and it definitely isn't something Loki would just throw around in a jokey play about how great he is.
It's clear to me that they literally did not care about the nuance, either in Loki's character, or in his relationship with Thor, or in his heritage... It just sucked. The whole movie felt like a hate mail letter to the last two, rather than a love letter. It felt like they were actively trying to make it clear that they hated the other Thor movies and needed to change the characters drastically in order to avoid hating them too. It made me give up on the entirety of the MCU and I haven't seen anything from it since. I didn't want another Guardians of the Galaxy unfunny comedy with more nothing characters who say interchangeable one-liners. I wanted another Thor movie that actually put work into at the very least this one sibling relationship and treated at least these two characters as more important than big colorful action scenes and jokes I could find in an amateur open mic comedy night act put on by a sixteen year old boy. I watched that movie with my little sister (who loves Loki but loves Thor even more, while I loved Thor but loved Loki even more,) and a group of about five or six others. Me and my little sister hated it, but the others adored it and said we were just too critical.
So... Yeah. Sorry for going off on a tangent, but I've been steaming about how much I hate this movie for like five years now. XD
#6 Avengers 1
Welcome back for my #6! I'm so glad you're still here!
So obviously by the title, my #6 ranked is Avengers 1 and I will be explaining why that is, so keep reading :)
Tumblr media
So this movie was my all-time favourite movie growing up. I vividly remember seeing it in theatres with my whole family as my birthday gift. So, just for that, it gets bonus points. But, not only does it hold great memories for me, that's not the reason I love it so much. It genuinely is such a great movie. Great characters, great plot, great humour, and is literally the baseline for all future Avengers movies.
Tumblr media
So, I know a lot of people either don't remember the plot of this movie or simply have never seen it. So let me break it down, without spoiling... don't worry, I would never ;)
So basically, Nick Fury, director of "Agents of Shield" recruits 6 highly skilled and trained people and activates the "Avengers initiative". He gets, Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow), Bruce Banner (Hulk), Tony Stark (Iron Man), Steve Rogers (Captain America), Clint Barton (Hawk Eye) and Thor to work as a team to retrieve the Tesseract, which harnesses the most power known to man, from Loki.
Tumblr media
So now, that you understand the base of the movie, you can clearly see how it already seems intriguing. From the amazing heroes, to my personal favourite villain, and everything in between, this movie comes together so well.
Tumblr media
I'm gonna start off with why I love the heroes so much, particularly in this movie. So, these 6 people, are the original Avengers. Throughout the movie, they go through their ups and downs as a team. They strongly dislike one and other and can't seem to figure it out. Therefore, failing their mission multiple times in the movie, just because they're careless towards each other. Along the way, they realize that the only way to defeat Loki, is to work together and put together a proper plan to out smart him. I love this because it really shows how powerful teamwork really is. As for me, I've always played team sports, so I've experienced many times in my life that you can't do it all on your own. No matter how mad we could be at each other, it's important to come together to out smart the other team. So the message the Avengers portrayed has a deep meaning to me personally. Especially, because at the end of the movie, they realized that they want to continue to work together because they will be able to change the world.
Tumblr media
To continue, I love Loki as the villain. That is probably one of the most controversial things I could say, so don't come at me. But whatever, he is. He is one of the smartest ones, he knows how to manipulate almost anyone, he's very sneaky and smooth with his getaways, and he somehow will always manage to trick me. Also, because he is Thors brother, they always go a little easier on him, so it gives him more room and opportunity to manipulate and escape, which always keeps things interesting. Lokis character in general is so fun to watch because he is so tricky with his words and gets in my head. He will always make himself the victim and play with the characters emotions and my own.
Tumblr media
Furthermore, what makes this movie so great is the comedy. Like almost every Marvel movie, there are so many great jokes cracked in throughout. This one in particular because it's filled with the funniest and wittiest characters, like Thor, Loki, Tony, and occasionally Steve. My two favourite scenes are the ones when Hulk tosses Loki around like a rag doll and says "puny god" and one scene when he is against the wall with one of the aliens, and they just stare at each other, and he just punches him out of nowhere. My brother and I used to think that they were the most comical thing in the world. I remember almost every time I've seen this movie with my brother, and I can't help but smile every time I imagine them.
Tumblr media
To conclude, I just love this movie so much, it brings back so many childhood memories, like my Avengers themed 7th birthday party inspired by this exact movie. The plot is so intense and very original, it brings together my favourite characters and creates the most powerful team in the world. The only reason I'd put this at #6 and not higher, is strictly on the CGI. This movie was made in 2012, so I understand, but now that I'm older, it's so easy to tell how fake it is, so it ruins it in the slightest way.
But overall, an amazing movie, it'll never get old, not even in 3000 days.... hehe, get it? Okay, I'll stop
Stay tuned for my #5! We're half way!
When Sylvie asked Loki: "Why aren't we seeing this the same way?" There's nothing inherently "childish" about that question, and it doesn't imply that she is unwilling to compromise. Understanding why we see things differently is part of compromising. To automatically perceive that question as a signal of bigotry only proves your own social ineptitude and discourages people from asking for clarity; how are we supposed to discuss our different perspectives if I'm not allowed to ask why you see things the way you do?
I'd rather just blindly follow the other person's will than be misunderstood so harshly. Your misinterpretation has given me a whole new social anxiety: "What if just asking for clarification makes me look bad?" Now I need to discuss this specific phrase with anyone I intend to have any kind of relationship with. Thanks a lot.
Besides, nobody ever criticizes "heroes" who blatantly refuse entertain the "villain's" ideology; it's okay to be uncompromising when you already have enough information to know that your way is correct/their way is wrong.
Lastly, being a couple isn't "all about" finding compromises; that is just a circumstantial facet of most relationships. Being a couple is all about sharing all of life together, which shouldn't be conditional upon anything, not even the ability or willingness to compromise. If we couldn't agree or reconcile on anything else, our relationship is still complete and successful if we agree on that.
So dear anon who's not an anon because you didn't content yourself with sending me an an ask, no, you actually also messaged me the same thing so I do know actually who you are, we've a lot to unpack.
Let's start with the Marvel bit and not with the personal bit.
If you had read carefully what I wrote, you would have realized I didn't plan to say that asking people why they see something in a certain way is wrong, quite the contrary, what I implied is that I interpret Sylvie's question as rethorical, not a genuine effort to know why Loki is thinking differently, but a complain he's just not blindly agreeing with her.
The context of that sentence isn't one that say that Sylvie wants to understand Loki. She has just accused him of wanting the throne, she said she doesn't believe him and that she was wrong in trusting him. The context doesn't imply she wants clarification, it implies she doesn't like he thinks differently from her.
By the way, before she said so, he had already told her WHY he thought differently from her, so she knew his own reasons for thinking differently.
Honestly, it was such a long, detailed meta the one from which you're decontestualizing that quote, I'm surprised you managed to misinterpret so badly what I said but whatever.
English is not my mother language, maybe I used poor sentences.
Long story short, I interpret the scene this way, you're welcome to interpret the scene whatever way you want.
"Loki" is a series, it exists for us to enjoy, analyze and whatever and we're all free to have different opinions about it.
It's opinions, not absolute truth and I'm always open to discuss mine.
Now, the personal attack.
While I think asking for clarifications is a great thing, that's not what you're doing.
What you're doing and aren't welcome to do is to read a post in MY BLOG, where I'm goddamn free to write what I want, HUGELY MISINTERPRED what I said, decide you disagree on what you misinterpreted and then barge in MY MESSAGE BOARD and also in MY ASK to be rude with me and impose on me your worldview.
I find amusing how you try to imply I try to discourage asking people for clarification when you clearly aren't interested in asking me for clarifications, even though you don't know the single thing about me, about my life, about my psychological status.
You just decided from a sentence I wrote and that you misinterpreted that I must be socially inept and felt obliged to write me TWICE to let me know about it and accusing me of things that are merely the result of you failing to correctly understand what I said.
If this isn't a deliberate attempt aiming at trying to discourage people from voicing their thoughts on something ON THEIR OWN BLOG, I don't know what it is.
And now news flesh. You prefer to 'blindly follow the other person's will than be misunderstood so harshly'? That's you.
We don't have to be the same. We clearly aren't. If you think I will now follow your ideas so as not to be misunderstood by you, a complete stranger that thinks he can barge here and tell me what I am, think twice.
Also I find highly ironic you say "Lastly, being a couple isn't "all about" finding compromises;" and that, to prove your point you say "If we couldn't agree or reconcile on anything else, our relationship is still complete and successful if we agree on that."
Sweetheart, agreeing to disagree is a compromise.
In case you don't know a compromise is a way of reaching agreement in which each person or group gives up something that was wanted in order to end an argument or dispute.
Dictionary's words, not mine.
Agreeing to disagree means we give up on changing the other person's opinion in order to end the discussion. It's often judged not the best compromise, in some cases it's even judged a terrible compromise, but it's still a compromise.
So let's compromise and agree we'll never be on the same page.
And please, don't feel obliged trying answering, I automatically ban rude people who assume rude things on me, so this is the end of this discussion.
