There are no words to express how much I simp for this man despite him being a walking red banner lol
If you've managed to catch his attention, all I can say is RUN. Although that wouldn't really do you much good either since he's the President of the Worker's Affiliates and he does have a lot of influence, being Eugene's right hand man(before stabbing him in the back) does have it's own advantages. You could be a regular cafe worker or a member of the Worker's Affiliates, whatever it is, when he lands his eyes on you the only thought that will be running through his head will be 'They're MINE'
He's one territorial, possessive, obsessive and manipulative MF to say the least. He has no qualms even going as far as literally THREATENING the people you're close to, friends and family included just so he can be with you. A literal walking red flag, his arrogant cocky smirk itself should be obvious. He wants possess you and make you his completely, he'll fall HARD for you and when he does, he won't be able to come back from that chasm of obsessive love for you. You remind him of a small little prey, so helpless and naive and he likes it that way. Don't get him wrong, he does love you, in his own twisted obsessive manner of course
Man here has abandonment issues to the core, daddy issues, Gun issues(Lol who doesn't) and insecurities as well but when you comfort him, he's confused at first, he's genuinely taken aback. It's been so long since he's remembered someone taking the time and effort to comfort him and make sure he's doing all right. He'll reply in a calm and stoic manner that he's fine but deep down his heart is racing wildly, he's secretly really glad you're taking the time to comfort him. He'd rather die than admit this but he does appreciate your gesture. He likes how innocent and sweet you are, which makes him want to protect you and keep you safe. With him. Where you rightfully belong
He's really not above bugging your entire apartment with hidden cameras so he can get a glimpse of your daily life, it's like a window into what you do everyday. He finds it so amusing and thinks it's adorable how you haven't figured out that he's secretly watching every move you do. He'll have his men find out more about you and the amount of information he has on you, he's ready to write a whole freaking research paper about you, that's how well he knows you now. Your social media accounts, your contacts list and yes, even all those fan fiction sites you like reading and visiting...he'll have them all. He'll immediately block all the people he doesn't like, he doesn't want some random pest stealing you away from him. He'll get information on those annoying pesky friends of yours and his mind will be racing of thoughts on how to dispose of them as soon as possible so you'll be his in every way possible
No matter what, Samuel is ALWAYS around you one way or another. If some random person tries to hit on you or something, the very next day they'll immediately be reported missing. People will start disappearing from your life like flies and it's all HIS doing. He either pays them money to prevent them from seeing you again or he'll just straight up murder them. Though he does lean towards the second option quite frequently. If you try to accuse him of something, he'll just smirk at you and say something like "Sweetheart, you're mistaken. I wouldn't act as rash and unprofessional as this..." Yeah Right
You'll be kidnapped pretty soon because no WAY is he going to stand by and let someone try to steal you from him. You're HIS. You'll wake up on his bed while he'll have his usual standard smirk on his face as his arms are crossed over his muscular tattooed chest and he strides over to you. "Ah good, you're awake...there are going to be some changes to your lifestyle now'' he says in a calm manner as he lights a cigarette and smokes it calmly, like everything is all right after he literally just kidnapped you. Scream and throw as many number of tantrums as you want, he'll just find you amusing. If you want to cry, he might pretend to be slightly annoyed at first but he'll sigh softly as he wipes your tears with his thumb and then whisper in that husky voice of his in your ear to be good for him unless you want your loved ones to be safe. Sadistic MF
You, of course won't know the reality of what he actually does and he prefers to keep it that way. What you don't know won't hurt you. Though he might be unhinged at times, he has his soft moments with you as well. He likes to hold you in his arms and press soft kisses to the nape of your neck and steal a few kisses on your lips every now and then. His kisses on your lips always leave you wanting for more and slightly gasping for air, he's that good lol. He just likes physical intimacy with you a lot. He might not be too expressive by words about his feelings of love for you but he believes that his actions are enough to make up for them. If anyone else touches his hair, he'd have broken their hand by now but if it's you, he'll have a soft smile on his face and pull you on his lap as he hums contentedly. It really HAS been a while since he's felt so happy and he couldn't have been more thankful since you came into his life
He'll take you out for dates in fancy restaurants and spoil you with whatever your heart desires. Or if you want to have a quiet night in, that could be arranged too with you in his arms. I seriously pity the poor fool who tries to hurt you or steal you from him though. He will straight up TORTURE them with the way he fights. He loses complete self control when he fights, his mind is like a beast filled with pure unadulterated anger and rage as he breaks the bones of whatever schmuck dared to set their filthy eyes on you. Or he'll just kill them, not after banging their head to the wall over and over again and stomping on their face as he calmly smokes a cigarette (because MOOD) and he'll end up choking the person to death with one hand. After that's done, he'll grumble about how he's got blood on his suit but he's glad to go back home to be with you. Don't question the blood on his suit...just don't, for the sake of your sanity. He does get rather annoyed when they keep screaming for mercy though, he'll just smile at them in an unnerving manner and cut their tongue off to silence them
Samuel adores you and loves you with all his twisted heart. Deep down he's still a bit insecure of himself. Don't even think of leaving him, it's a death wish. He'll just track your location in a few moments and he'll drag you back home. You'll end up being tied to his bed until you earn your freedom and his trust to move around again. Besides, you don't need to whine and complain so much, not when he's the one taking care of you. He's ready to do ANYTHING to ensure you stay by his side no matter what...

i like the early worm arcs so much because it's so interesting to see what the undersider group dynamics are like before they entirely reorganize around taylor. and by interesting i mean they make me explode and die (positive).
i think what it boils down to is that the undersiders sans taylor aren't really friends, but they are each others sole replacements for every single support system and human connection they're missing, and that's actually Significantly More Intense. they do all vary in why they're on the team (that is, in why they all have nowhere else they can go), which, alongside their general personalities, impacts the precise mechanisms of how they relate to each other. undersider relationship charts are very complicated diagrams.
brian is on the team because he needs the money to keep his sister from being entirely fucked over by the system (i.e. jailed or kept with abusive parents or in shitty foster care), and i'm sure there's an extent to which it makes his situation as a 17yo with terrible parents far more livable as well. it was pointed out on here earlier this month or the last that we don't really know anything about what his civilian identity is like--we see him interacting with taylor out of mask, but we don't know if he has, like...friends? or family he keeps in contact with outside aisha? or if he does anything with his free time other than trying to prove himself to be a capable guardian for aisha or improve his odds as grue?
and i think the reason we don't have answers to these questions are that brian (civilian) is a mask, too. grue isn't the side identity to an otherwise rich and detailed life--the brian we see speaking to the foster worker in the apartment is playing a barren role. he is 17 and concerned about getting new placemats for his apartment and sorting out school districts for the child he wants to adopt. that's not his normal, unfiltered self, that's a role he's completely stepped into because he'll see himself as a failure on multiple levels if he doesn't fill it. there's no way he has casual friendships or anything along those lines as civilian brian, because civilian brian is plastic. civilian brian can't be a real person, because people have broad ranges of emotions and experiences, and civilian brian is just supposed to be the platonic ideal of a stalwart and responsible family man. there's a reason why the foster worker observes that his apartment is devoid of personality. civilian brian laborn's life is a motherfucking ikea stock home.
i think the most genuine brian ever gets is when he's in the liminal space of the loft--not brian (goodboy civilian mode), but not grue, either. it's only when he's removed from both the obligations of the act he has to play as a civilian & the violent professionalism he takes up as grue that he's able to be a Kind Of Normal Boy. it's where he actually has work-friends to banter with, it's where he plays video games, it's where he gets to go on his dorky rants about martial arts. aisha & the other pressing concerns of everyday life aren't there, so he doesn't have to be Responsible about them--but he's technically still at work, which he attends for the purpose of helping aisha, so he can escape from beating on himself over letting his roles drop. he still intermittently engages in the Brian Behavior of being a little control freak, but also, he playfights with alec :)
which is an extremely compelling dynamic to me...he's not even particularly Close with any of the undersiders, but he's known them for like a year and a half, and they're a space where he can be far more genuinely relaxed than he can anywhere else. which is what makes it so incredibly sad to witness when aisha joins the team & now brian's entire life is about trying to fill that ideal of masculinity he's cramming himself into under the misguided hope that it will protect/care for her. he's breaking under the stress of trying to be a good leader, and he can't admit that the stress of the role is entirely self-imposed. he can't set it down because he won't let himself set it down. it leads him to become condescending and unkind to alec--someone he used to play video games and playfight and banter with--in the same way he is to aisha :( brian laborn my sad boy in torture chamber of his own making. i will write about lisa alec and rachel's situations in other posts to keep this one from being too long

While the Enforcers who patrol Zaun are paid off and have been told to not bother the locals, the few of them who are brave enough venture into the Lanes to lounge around, sometimes while on duty. The most foolhardy of them will mosey into Babette's brothel for a session.
The workers hate them. But money is money.
Every blue moon some too-green Enforcer will try to press their luck on getting away with mistreating the workers or attempting (sometimes succeeding) to leave without paying. The workers will, of course, complain to Babette about it. The girls, especially, will complain to Sevika.
Most Enforcers know to never get complaints brought up to Sevika, lest they jeopardize the deal Silco has in place with the sheriff.
"So, you're the pig I've been hearing about."
The enforcer whipped his head around to catch Sevika's pointed glare. He was young, dark-haired, and attempting in vain to grow facial hair. Not too unattractive for anyone else seemingly under the age of 23. He reeked of alcohol and sweaty sex and Sevika scrunched her nose at that. The cigarette in his mouth clung on for dear life as he sputtered a response.
"Fuck did you say?"
He missed matching Sevika's height by two inches, but even with his chest puffed out, he severely lacked the muscle mass to back up the bass in his voice. A nonthreat. Probably a kid on his fourth patrol in the Undercity. Sevika had stumbled into enforcers like him before. All annoying little shitheels who thought they ran the place because of a shiny badge.
Sevika kept her composure and her arms—her weapons–hidden under her poncho. "I think you heard me loud and clear. Or did you forget where you were?"
He looked around at the glowing neon and smoke-filled air of Zaun's red-light district. Then sized Sevika up. A haughty smirk painted his chapped lips next.
"The backwoods, clearly. Don't know why anyone bothers coming here. Just a bunch of cheap whores and booze."
"And yet... You're a repeat customer."
The enforcer narrows his eyes. "Where'd you get that from?"
Sevika leaned in. "Got eyes and ears everywhere. Also heard you didn't bother paying for a service."
His lip twitched, only somewhat regaining his composure as he flicked his cigarette to the pavement. "Well. Service wasn't satisfactory."
Sevika chuckled. "That so?"
The enforcer reached for his weapon when she moved. "You touch me, and I'll have an entire squad on your ass. Back. Up."
The chuckle morphed into a full laugh. "I don't see any 'backup' around. Do you?"
Sure enough, he scanned his surroundings. No one around except the supposed "cheap whores" and peddlers at the end of the block, curious but keeping their noses out of their business.
"Your superiors must be hazin' you. What were they thinking, sending a little man like you around to do their patrolling for them?" He steeled his jaw as Sevika continued. "Let me tell you something.
"Ever seen a wolf? They're apex predators. Strong alone, sure, but even more deadly in a pack. There's power in numbers and that pack allows them to take down prey many times their own size. But what happens when a lone wolf encounters a farmer and his flock of sheep?
"It gets bold, brazen. Stupid. The sheep disappear one by one. And the wolf keeps showing up. That is... until the farmer gets a deterrent, a guard dog. But that wolf? It wants those sheep, because they should be easy prey, right? So, it brings more wolves, hoping the size of the pack will scare the dog away."
Sevika leaned in again.
"But no matter how many fuckin' wolves show up, that dog isn't backing down."
The enforcer's grip on his weapon intensified so much, his veins popped. He swallowed.
"If I see you down here again, I'll make sure you never make it back topside for your 'pack.' Now. Get the fuck outta here."
The junior enforcer gritted his teeth before he snarled and stomped away.

The Problem with Gentle Critiques
This deserves a longer, more interesting post than I have the spoons to write, but:
I have been reflecting a lot lately on the fact that Pretty Woman offers huge and insightful critiques of capitalism that I Did Not Get as a child, and have completely missed until very recently.
It's a problem a lot of 80s movies have, where capitalists legitimately do bad things and are critiqued about it, but so much of the movie is spent wallowing in the luxuries rich people have that audiences do not absorb the critique.
Tumblr media
One of the crucial plot arcs in Pretty Woman is about how the Richard Gere character is deeply unhappy until he meets Vivian (Julia Roberts) because he is *angry* at his father, and has been taking out that anger on others by buying up their businesses, breaking them up, and selling the 'valuable' remains for profit.
Tumblr media
Vivian makes the insightful point that his company doesn't make anything, it only destroys, and that this is partly why Edward (Gere) remains deeply unhappy, and all the therapy in the world hasn't solved that. Just recognising that you're angry at your father changes nothing. You have to change the behaviours that perpetuate that damage as well.
Vivian is a force of socialist disruption wherever she goes.
Perhaps the most memorable moment of the movie is not the romance or the business plot or the sex work, but Vivian returning to the snooty shop where the women dismissed her because she looked 'cheap' (and probably they recognised her as a sex worker). These are women who work (unfairly) on commission. They're dismissive because they don't want to waste their time helping someone they've been trained to judge won't buy anything. So these are women who won't help another woman. They're women who want to keep as far away from sex workers as they can lest they be damaged by association. But if they had co-operated, they would have all raised each other up.
Tumblr media
But I didn't get that.
I didn't get the point about big business and the fact that extracting capital actually destroys productivity because shareholders only care about their price going up, not about funding enterprises that benefit us all. Because the business plot is boring. Even though the business men in the movie are the most grotesque and easy to hate, because of how they treat Vivian, the critique of them as business men doesn't register, because what Edward's money buys is a lot more fun: the beautiful red dress, the fabulous hotel, 'rescuing' Vivian from her life of poverty and sex work.
I also didn't get the socialist undertones of the shopping interaction. What I felt - and what I think most of us feel when we watch that moment, where Vivian comes back in with her many bags and says 'Big mistake! Big! Huge!' isn't 'Workers should unite to protect each other' or 'Women must unite in solidarity with sex workers', instead, what we feel is visceral triumph over bullies and snobs. And what enables Vivian to triumph in that way is Edward's money, and how good and expensive she looks in the clothes his money enabled her to buy.
Tumblr media
Because she does look good (in a very 80s way). So even though the film is really well made (it's a classic for a reason) and is doing all this subtle shit with how much more free and comfortable Vivian looks in her street clothes than either she or the shop workers look in their expensive, 'smart' clothes - even though there's this beautiful thematic work going on with how Vivian's character's sex work and free spirit embody actually living life and enjoying it sensuously, and how often the rich-people environments feel sterile and unwelcoming to us as well as her - it all gets lost, because she's also Cinderella.
And don't make the mistake of thinking I'm critiquing Cinderella, because I'm not. I *get* that we all need stories about being rescued sometimes. We shouldn't have to do it all ourselves. We can't. We need stories where the people with resources make the time to see us in our struggles and lift us up out of poverty and pain. I GET IT.
The point I'm making is that a film can do all this good work - it can work hard and skilfully to critique capitalism and say your feminism must include sex workers or it will be bullshit - and it can ALL GET LOST. Because subtle points don't register when the escapism is too inviting.
People will defend Lord of the Flies and Fight Club until the cows come home for having 'real' messages that are important and get missed under the emotional impact of how the story makes you feel, but they won't make the time to do the same for Pretty Woman or The Little Mermaid (another post I should make some time) because they're 'fairytales' and 'for women' and 'feel good'. So I definitely don't want to drag the film down.
It's more that I am, 30 years too late, having an 'OH, THAT'S what you were doing!' about a movie that was making some pretty great points, and I didn't get them until I experienced a company being destroyed to extract capital from the inside.
I didn't get it because, I think, we don't see the perspectives of the workers. The only suffering we see is Vivian's, and she's wrapped up in a fairytale where she's going to be rescued and live a life of luxury at the end. We don't see what made those sales assistants behave like dicks, even though the movie shows how working on commission in a luxury store *sucks*.
We don't get the perspective of the ordinary workers in the companies Edward destroys - only their CEO, who at the end of the day would actually be fine. The idea of losing a 'family' business that 'makes something' is abstract. The CEO never made anything with his own hands, even if he 'cares' about his workers.
And yeah, a single film can only do so much, but the issue is that it's a paradigmatic example of a wider problem - also seen in Lord of the Flies and Fight Club. Which is that if your message is overtaken by revelling in the thing you want to critique, all the audience will take away is that they enjoyed the revels.
We want to be Edward and Vivian, not the shop workers. We want to burn it all down, not critique toxic masculinity.
In a world where most people know the way capitalism operates is bad, Pretty Woman makes a powerful critique. In a world where we're constantly urged to worship money... it makes it look like having money is really nice. Like you get beautiful dresses and jewellery and to get back at your bullies.
I think too often, as writers (and I am speaking of myself here) we allow ourselves to be persuaded to hold back, because we don't think people will accept what we have to say if we say it too bluntly. But actually, there are people out there who need you to scream.
Tumblr media
And I'm not saying that Fury Road is a better movie than Pretty Woman because it confronts the issues head on and screams them in your face. We do need both. We just get a lot more of one than the other; which sadly makes the more dominant kind of film less effective.
I guess I'm saying that if you want to make a point, subtlety doesn't cut it. If you want to change minds, to go against the grain, you have to be careful not to enjoy too much that which you critique.
If you want to critique billionaires, you can't make their lives look fun.
People remember Iron Man's gadgets and fabulous home, not the critique of arms dealing.
People remember Vivian's red dress and the defeat of bullies with money, not the importance of worker solidarity.
If you want people to remember your critique, you can't be subtle.
(OK, maybe I failed at writing the short version of this post.)

Anonymous Asks: "Can we have an AU where the SDJ boys and Bo are sex workers?"
Tumblr media
Ooooh yes, I'm a sucker for sex worker headcanons!! This is gonna be so self indulgent~
Content: honest discussions of sex work, femboy, chastity, sugaring, camming, full service sex work, survival sex work, escorting, bdsm dungeons, sadism, fetish modelling, pupplay
Tumblr media
Jack:
Jack is a dungeon dom
He kind of got into it accidentally. He frequented his local dungeon to get out his sadistic urges, and ended up befriending a lot of the workers there
All of the submissives who work there have been dommed by him, so they're able to attest to his skills when he applies to be a full time dom in the dungeon
He does, of course, still have to go through the training process. He starts off as a submissive, and as much as he hates it (and hates that he enjoys it) he sticks with it
Then he moves onto co-domination, and finally full domination. His technically skills don't need much honing, so he manages to get through training pretty quickly
He's very popular with the more extreme masochists, given how willing he is to inflict any amount of pain, and how sweet and gentle he is with the aftercare
He actually really enjoys his job. It's satisfying, seeing a customer come in visibly stressed and leave visibly relaxed. Knowing that he helped them
He does a lot of talking with his clients as well. Listens to them vent about their problems, offers advice and a friendly ear. They tend to open up to him a lot during aftercare
He's got a pretty dedicated clientele who come to him regularly. He has a whole schedule for his regulars, and when they miss a week he worries about them
Generally, he finds his job to be the perfect balance between letting him indulge his own desires and helping other people enjoy themselves
Ian:
Camming is his speciality
Specifically, femboy stuff as well. He wears cute skirts and thigh highs and a pink plastic chastity cage while fucking himself on camera for tips~
He has a small fanbase, but they're very generous. Lots of older men with plenty of money to throw his way, as long as he'll show off for them
His whole setup and outfits and toys are all pastels, especially pinks and blues. He has a wishlist that clients can send him stuff from that all matches the aesthetic too
He doesn't show his face. The highest he'll go is showing off his collars, and he might show himself from behind to show off some cute ear headbands or something. But no face.
He actually really enjoys the attention. He thanks his fans by name and will read and respond to the chat as he cams, and sometimes he even gives links to control some of his internet connected toys~
His shaky, nervous little voice is actually a huge draw. People love how flustered and discomposed he sounds, even before he's properly started his shows
He also has a premium snapchat that people can pay for access to, where he'll send little teasing pics throughout the day, especially before and after streams
If someone offers, he's happy to be a sugar baby too. It's not that he needs the money, but he enjoys acting and he enjoys being taken care of
He genuinely enjoys his work a lot! He blocks creeps very readily because he can afford to, and he doesn't mind keeping his fanbase small
Shaun:
Shaun does indie pornos!
He likes things with at least a semi-solid plot. Something more than just "oh haha the pizza man stuck his dick in the box." He likes crafting elaborate stories to film
He wants to get involved in every aspect of the filming. From the script writing to the set and costume design to actually acting in it, he wants to be part of it all!
His house is filled with various props and costumes and toys from the pornos he's filmed. He generally likes to use them to decorate his house, half because it's funny and half because it's cheap
He's very proud of his work, he'll sit all his friends down and make them watch his newest film with him. He'll talk through the whole film and everything, he's so hype!
He's won awards for his work, and big name porn studios have tried to hire him, but he prefers to be an independent creator because it gives him more control
He's also very adamant about the health and safety of the actors, so he makes sure to only work with people who care as much as he does. This also keeps him away from the big studios
He's saving up to try to start his own proper studio with full-time employees and a base of operations and everything, but it's expensive and he's not great at budgeting
Seriously, he can't help but buy any props and toys he thinks will go well in one of his films. He's got an entire shelf full of various fantasy dildos he plans to use one day
He has a lot of fun with his work, he genuinely loves what he does and is incredibly proud of it! He tells absolutely everyone about what he does with no shame
Nick:
We already know he's a professional dom
He does a wide variety of things. He likes to experiment and doesn't want to pigeonhole himself as only one type of creator. His only limit is that he won't submit for work
He often collaborates with other sex workers. Whether it's doing photoshoots or videos, he loves the chance to see how others work and to make something fun together!
He's been doing it for long enough and is popular enough to have his own separate studio space. It's got all of his gear on display and plenty of fun furniture too
Over the years, he's amassed a pretty big collection of toys and gear. He has a whole wall covered in hooks dedicated to his leather cuffs and harnesses
He's got a handful of proper cameras and some really good mics. He's all about quality, and he's constantly working on making things even better
He takes a lot of pride in his work. He puts a lot of effort into his scripts and shoots and everything! Each set and video and audio is carefully designed by him
He really goes for the soft dom angle. Sure, he'll happily show his rougher side, but for the most part his fans are there for his soothing voice and gentle domination
He does a lot of voice kink stuff, especially JOI videos. He tries to keep everything as gender neutral as possible because he doesn't want any of his fans feeling excluded or left out
He takes a lot of pride in his job. He worked hard to get where he is, and he's a very vocal activist for sex worker rights. He also uses his platform to boost other creators
Joseph:
Joseph is a full service survival sex worker
He's picked up odd jobs that weren't sex work here or there, but he tends to fall back into it because it's something he's good at and it's a more certain income for him
He has some dedicated clients who often take him in for a few days or weeks at a time and pamper him, basically being his sugar parent for a little bit at a time
Most people want him to dominate them, so that's what he does. He works with a lot of wealthy people who care about their images, so they pay him well for his silence
He's definitely not above getting on his knees and sucking someone off in exchange for dinner. He spends a decent amount of time in dark parking lots waiting for clients
The local motel workers know him. He rents rooms there sometimes when he knows there's a conference or something going on and lots of people will be staying there
He's close with the other full service sex workers in his area. They all sort of help each other out where they can. Because he's so big and strong, he'll often protect them from dangerous clients
He doesn't mind doing sex work, but he sure does wish he could be doing it for the love of the job rather than for a roof over his head and food in his mouth
He gets harassed by the cops pretty often, but he hasn't been caught with enough evidence to charge him yet. He tries to keep the heat on him so the other workers aren't in as much danger
He doesn't mind getting picked up by the cops so much, just because at least when he spends the night in a cell, he's got a roof over his head. But he still hates them
Jean:
He's a porn star!
He got into it as a fuck you to his parents, really. He was never passionate about it, he just figured it was a good way to fuck with their precious reputations
A big name actor looking to do porn? Yeah, he had no lack of interest and offers. Honestly, he spent a good long while looking through scripts to decide which one to do
He'd only planned to do one. Just enough to shock people and piss of his parents, and then go right back to his usual acting, riding the waves of media attention
But... well, he actually really enjoyed it. He's an exhibitionist at heart, and his co-stars were... so much nicer than what he's used to. It's weird, but he enjoys it
He became friends with a number of other porn stars just from hanging out on set between takes and talking to people. They were all so much more welcoming than he's used to
He felt really at home with it all. For once he was actually enjoying his work, and was interested in the final product. He was determined to make it good
When he finished that first one, he looked back over the other roles he'd been offered. He weeded out the ones he didn't care for, and then booked the others
Whenever he works with someone again, they always greet him with such excitement. It feels good to actually be wanted on set, rather than begrudgingly accepted
It started as a way to rebel, but he actually really found a home on porn sets. He even dabbles in writing and directing his own stuff sometimes, though he prefers acting
Rory:
Rory is a male escort
He kind of got into it by accident. Someone at a bar confused him for an escort and paid for him to spend the evening with them. He just thought they were into him until they paid him
He's not one to turn down money! He was more than happy to pocket it and try to figure out whether or not he could do something like that again
It's the perfect gig for him. He gets to go out to all sorts of fun restaurants and events and whatnot, just being the arm candy for whoever's paid for his company
And then sometimes they bring him home to fuck him, sometimes they don't. He's not too fussed either way, as long as there's money in his pocket at the end of the night
For a while, he does it freelance. Just kind of waits around places, hoping to get picked up. Mostly because he doesn't know any other way of getting hired
But he runs into another escort who tells him about agencies and suggests he find one. He asks around until he finds an agency who want to hire him
He's a very easy-going worker, so he's very popular. He's not picky about his clients, and takes the people no one else wants to go with. He also picks up shifts from sick coworkers
He's pretty high in demand, being ginger and pretty and down to fuck anyone! He has a dedicated set of clients, and then an endless stream of one-off clients who like his look
He doesn't really get why people are weird about his job. It doesn't occur to him that it's any different from working an office job, so he'll talk about it proudly
Bo:
Bo is a fetish model
He's another one who fell into his work by accident. Coming out of his game was a tough adjustment, and he didn't really have time to find work
But his look... well, it's unique. And definitely has the looks of a fetish model. I mean, the man's a walking dogboy with a collar on, can you blame people for the confusion?
He doesn't get why people keep asking to photograph him, but he goes along with it. Especially once he learns what money is and why he needs it
He finds it fun! He's used to showing off for people, trying to keep the attention on himself, so posing for a camera comes pretty naturally to him
He actually really enjoys trying on all the fetish gear and working with other people. He settles into the job well, and his pictures are received very well
He obviously specialises in pupplay fetish content. Bone gags, leashes, muzzles, cages, dog bowls... you name it, if it's pupplay then he's doing it!
He is a huge hit in the gay community, and he regularly gets invited to be part of pride events. He's also big in the leather community cause he models a lot of leather stuff
He avoids doing anything more than photo shoots just because he's still getting the hang of those and just... life in general. But he enjoys what he does
His face is in just about every 18+ magazine that has hot guys in it! You can't avoid seeing him if you're looking for fetish pictures, even just product pictures when you're buying stuff

(same anon who asked for sinu analysis) well first off let me ask your thoughts on YeonhuixSinu
Despite my undying love for this man- I'll admit they're cute n all BUT I always felt it was undeveloped.
I don't know if it's just me but when Jason (I think) said he'd snitch about him being with neko to her I was confused back when he was still under the influence of those pills at workers. Like, Did I miss something? Did I forget something from the gaps between the arcs? Idk. But even if she was shown to be worried over Sinu, it didn't seem romantic at all especially that all the big deal girls cared too. PTJ also made it seem like an already established relationship and I'm still questioning when?? She seemed to know him well and all but no hinting of any romantic attraction was there, just your average big deal romanticism and admiration lol.
I understand that PTJ has to leave some details away for the sake of the pacing but I think he could've at least thrown some hints here and there.
ok yeah. so this won't be a super long post because i am tired but good lord i am very... lukewarm about sinu and yeonhui. im with you on the "who?" when yeonhui was mentioned again in 2a. now im glad that sinu is with someone he's happy with but man... sinu and yeonhui is just such a mid ship compared to literally anyone else he could've been shipped with. let me explain.
yeonhui's lack of presence in the story. now this is probably the main reason i find this ship so lackluster. how am i supposed to root for a ship when the female love interest is literally like npc #125? while she did have more presence than the other girls on the street, this isn't really a high bar considering ptj's track record writing female characters. and this isn't to say she was boring or had a bland personality either (even though she KINDA did...). she was strong and independent, stood up to samuel when he tried to extort them for money (iirc), bore the burden of sinu's sacrifice and stayed strong for big deal, and was there to comfort jake when he learned of the news. she could've been a REALLY interesting character because she was so strong and also stuck to her ideals in the same way sinu did, so they could've been such a power couple, had yeonhui been developed more. it would've been nice to see yeonhui and sinu strategize about how to protect big deal together, or see more of yeonhui bandaging and caring for sinu after he gets hurt, or seeing sinu bring yeonhui gifts and money... or anything, really. the two have barely have any substantial interactions over the entire arc besides the last part where sinu's about to sacrifice himself, so much so that it makes me wonder... who is this yeonhui person? why are they important again.
chemistry. this mainly comes up to personal preference but yeonhui and sinu feel more like an older sister-younger brother dynamic to me. yeonhui took sinu in as a child, fed, clothed, and cared for him, and then continues to take care of him as an adult, which comes off as big sis behavior. again, some people may like this dynamic romantically, but i personally find it super platonic and sibling-leaning.
other sinu ships. idk. just find it a LITTLE heteronormative that any man and woman who share a little bit of screentime together are instantly a couple while sinu and jake can be out here pulling "you are my everything" and "i came back to big deal for you and you alone, jake" moments, and they'll still be just "good bros". again, kind of up to personal preference, but if you compare yeonhui x sinu to jake x sinu or even samuel x sinu, there's a clear lack of interactions and chemistry for yeonhui x sinu
so yeah. thats kinda it. this ended up being way longer than i expected so im not gonna write a conclusion paragraph but those are my thoughts around yeonhui and sinu together romantically.

My take on Blue Beetle (Ted Kord):
Ted Kord is known as the Canadian Bruce Wayne. Well, maybe not explicitly by that nickname, but that is the type of character he shall be. He's less dark than Bruce, but you know what I mean, I hope.
Ted Kord is the head of famed manufacturing company Kord Industries. Known around the world for it's research skills and for it's work in the development of new technology, everybody knows the Kord family. They're like the Rogers family, except without a monopoly on telecommunications. But based on the behavior of CEO Ted Kord, you may not always know that they're such a successful company.
Ted was always a shy boy. Early in his life, people around him began to notice just now precocious the boy was. Shy, lonely but incredibly creative and intelligent, ted was head and shoulders above his peers when it came to academics. But he never excelled socially. Ted has almost never had any friends, and his father was a cold, distant rich miser. With his mother having died when he was very young, Ted never really had anyone who cared for him in his life.
To cope with this loneliness and isolation, Ted loved to spend time alone reading. Ted fell in love with old fantasy and adventure stories, as well as with superheroes and superhero comics. Specifically, Ted loved the semi-fictional adventures of The Blue Beetle, otherwise known as archaeologist Dan Garrett. (The stories were semi-fictional because Garrett was a real archaeologist and adventurer in the 1920s and 30s, but he never had a magic scarab or secret identity as the Blue Beetle).
For Ted, these stories were an escape from his lonely life at home. They helped him deal with his cold home life and lack of friends. Ted began to dream of one day becoming a real hero, just like the Blue Beetle he fell in love with.
As Ted aged, he began to feel disillusioned by his family's work. He used to hang out with his dad's assistants and with the factory staff. He got to see how hard their lives were, and how much of their problems could be traced back to his dad. His dad hoarded money, was rude to his workers, refused to let them unionize or get raises, etc. Eventually, something explosive was going to happen. And something explosive did indeed happen.
When ted was around 20 or so, the factory workers went on strike. Around the same time, a bunch of the key organizers of the strike began to go missing. Suspicious, ted began investigating. And what he found really shocked him. He found out that his father was hiring someone to sabotage the strikes by injuring the strike organizers. Outraged, Ted knew he had to do something. But what? And then it hit him: this was his chance. He now had a chance to become a hero, like his idol as a child.
So ted got to work designing a costume and an arsenal of weapons to help take the attack to the saboteur. And just like that, The Blue Beetle was born! He took out the saboteur and helped bring his father to justice! And now Ted Kord lives two lives. Sometimes he's Ted Kord, CEO of Kord Industries, dedicated to making amends for his father's actions. While other times he's the Blue Beetle, one of Canada's most famous Superheroes!
The Blue Beetle was one of the founders of the Justice League of Canada. Naturally so, since he's one of the most famous heroes Canada has. People even know of the Blue Beetle in America, which is shocking considering how often americans forget Canada exists. He was a natural choice to help found the team.
PS: If you're waiting for Booster Gold, I can try and do my take on him too. I'm not sure if I want both of these characters to be introverts who open up around each other (like having Booster Gold really be very shy and his persona is a bit act), or if I want Booster to be more extroverted and Ted more introverted, making them an odd couple kind of deal. I'm leaning towards the first one, but both would work I suppose.

another thing i can't forgive the webcomic on downplaying or outright skipping in order to make room for comedy is the commentary on classism and how absolutely terrible life can be when you're poor. i'm not saying they don't talk at all about it, they do! they have done some scenes that i really, really like so we know they're perfectly capable of it! so that makes it all the more noticeable when they,,, don't.
like i've already talked about how they massively changed the scene with sir blanc, where instead of lloyd showing him just how draining and tiring and hard it actually it is to work in construction and how much respect those workers deserve rather than how sir blanc had been looking down on them, they made it into a "if you flinch you lose" sort of deal
i liked that scene! it's quiet and calm and it gives us insight into how lloyd sees the world and why he acts the way he does to his workers. there's even a bit where lloyd offers him five times the salary of his civil engineers and sir blanc tells him it's not about the money, subtly implying it's insulting on lloyd's part to think he cared about money when his pride is on the line. and then lloyd completely shuts him down by telling him that of course money is important, people break their backs every day to get enough money to support themselves and their families, why wouldn't it be important?
for many people shoveling is the only way they can sustain themselves, it is their last lifeline and hope, the very job sir blanc was making fun of is what kept a house over their head and food on their table. and it's only after lloyd explains all of that to him that he also shows off his mana blast. he doesn't need to order sir blanc to do anything because, well, why would he? he made his point perfectly clear.
it's such a poignant scene!!! and in the webnovel we get,, well,, this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
it's kind of amazing how they,,, apparently missed the point of the scene?? like yeah sir blanc learns to respect lloyd and the construction work they do, but not because he thinks every job is inherently worthy of respect and there's not such thing as unskilled labor but because,,, lloyd is good at fighting monsters and saving people with unconventional methods. that's kind of it.
idk it feels like such a shame we lost that bit of character understanding and development even if we did get an absolutely hysterical scene out of it.
then there's also this scene a little bit after lloyd gets ggoming where he reflects how important reputation is and how much the money you have affects that. he was a poor guy, no house, no family, living in a cramped goshiwon, barely any clothes, with two or three faded sweatshirts for the entire year and a cheap haircut every three or four months.
he didn't have the money to worry about his appearance and it showed, which also affected his self-esteem and the way he carried himself, with hunched shoulders to occupy as small space as possible. and because of that the way people treated him was terrible, looking down on him with disdain and suspicion, constantly watching him any time he went to buy something because they thought he was looking to steal something. even outright accusing him of it.
it's horrible and harsh and a reality for many people and part of the reason he's so worried about building up a good reputation. he knows how terrible life can get when you don't have one and can't afford to get it.
and in the webcomic we get:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i swear i'm not trying to be mean nor overly critical. i promise i do love this webcomic, it makes me laugh so much and i wait every new chapter shaking and screaming. but c'mooonnnn
tged is about a modern day civil engineer raising absolute chaos in a fantasy setting with a giant hamster and his put upon knight following him everywhere he goes. but it also does have important themes weaved into the narrative that you can't just skip over without losing part of what makes it so good!
i'm begging here, just give us an earnest scene every once in a while, there's no need to make a joke at every turn, we're big boys (gn), we can handle a serious scene every couple chapters! we used to have those! chapter 5 had a great scene about suho's struggles in his previous life! chapter 26 was also amazing! it had its funny moments but it allowed itself to have a calm, quiet, sad moment that gave way to an earnest moment with lloyd and the summons! it's clear they can do it, they've done it before!
i just,,, i think there's so much to explore in the webnovel, that isn't being fully used in the webcomic and it's just such a shame :( so if you can i really encourage you to read the novel, it fleshes out and endears you to the characters so much more, i really do recommend it!

Hey! May i request romantic headcanons of savannaclaw & gn!s/o (not poly)? Back at their world, s/o is a very busy worker and doesn't even have time to relax (rarely). Even in nrc, it's still the same (school, work, & overblot). All they do is work, yes, for money, they need it. Sometimes they need entertainment or time to rest. What will he do for them? Thanks!

•·················•·················•·················•·················•
leona kingscholar.
♡ leona doesn't understand how you can be such a hardworking person. yes, he knows that you need money, you don't know anything about twisted wonderland and you're trying to get used to this new world. and somehow you always manage to show up to classes AND save nrc students from overblotting? you saved HIM from his overblot, leona never thanked you properly for it, but he did appreciate it. and now that he sees you helping other students with their breakdowns, he understands just how hard it is for you.
♡ honestly, it starts annoying him a little bit. you never have any time for him, you just give him a kiss on the cheek and then run to do your work. leona knows that he has to do something about it. he even feels kind of awkward, he's usually just chilling meanwhile you're dealing with so much stuff. yeah, he should teach you how to relax and take breaks.
♡ the next day, you find out about another student struggling with something, you run to help them, but leona suddenly stops you. you ask him to let you go, this student needs help and you're right here! leona tells you that he knows this student, they're just struggling with their homework. he tells you that they'll be fine, you don't have to help every single student in this school, they depend on you too much already.
♡ and for some reason, you don't have much to do that day? when you ask anyone if they need some help, they assure you that they're okay, also today's homework is not that hard.. and all nrc students seem fine and you don't think that anyone is going to overblot anytime soon? huh, that's weird.. you kinda have a feeling that leona told those students to stop depending on you and asking you for help all the time.
♡ leona tries to help you, while being his usual leona self, but he really does care about you. he tells you that you're not lazy for taking breaks, someone as hardworking as you actually needs them.
ruggie bucchi.
♡ first of all, YEAH, RELATABLE. he understands you, he also has financial problems and has to work a lot. but the thing is that ruggie is also a pretty chill and laidback person, meanwhile you're more serious and responsible. ruggie respects that, but he thinks that you're way too responsible. you deserve to take breaks, okay? you know what they say, work hard and play hard!
♡ ruggie tries to help you understand that you don't have to do ALL of your tasks. some of them are not that important, if you think about it. yes, school is important, so you still have to do your homework and show up to classes (though ruggie thinks that if you miss some of them, it's not gonna be a big deal). if you really need money, then yeah, it's probably better for you to do your work, but still, please take breaks. also, you don't have to be nrc students' therapist. they have a lot of issues, but who said that you should be the one to help them? it's not your responsibility. you've saved many students from overblotting, that's kind of you, but stop thinking that you should help every single student with their problems.
♡ if you finally start taking breaks, ruggie makes sure that even if your breaks are short, you get the rest that you deserve! if you have to take a short nap, you can put your head on his shoulder (he tries so hard to act calm about it, but he starts blushing right when you close your eyes)! if you have time to go somewhere, why not have a small date together? and if ruggie has some time, he can help you out with your work too! you don't have to pay him, just give him a kiss and he will be more than okay with that~
♡ ruggie gets so proud when you start taking better care of yourself. he loves you and he doesn't want you to suffer because of how much work you have. you don't have to go through all of this alone.
jack howl.
♡ like ruggie, he admires you, but he's worried about you overworking yourself. it's good that you're so responsible and you're helping people so often, but don't you think you're forgetting about your own needs and health? jack understands your situation and he knows that you need money, but it doesn't mean that you're not allowed to take any breaks.
♡ he tries to help you as much as he can, you don't have to thank him, it's only right for him to do this, he's your boyfriend after all. he also reminds you to take breaks and take care of yourself, you still have to get the right amount of sleep, you have to stay hydrated and it's okay if you can't do a certain task today, don't feel guilty about it. it's okay to have your weaknesses and limits.
♡ if he sees a student asking you for help when they clearly can ask someone else, he just glares at them. you already have classes and work to deal with, they don't have to do this any harder for you. you don't owe them anything, they can deal with it on their own or ask someone else for help. again, don't feel guilty about it, you're not a bad person for setting boundaries.
♡ jack is a very caring boyfriend, he respects you for being so hardworking, but he doesn't like to see you tired and overwhelmed. so you better start taking breaks, y/n!

I found you cause I found this post about the coven heads somehow ending up in the human realm instead of the kids? And honestly I'd like to see more of that? Like is Eda there too with missing arm and all?
Is Luzs mom and Vee the ones to find them and Vee flips out and is terrified. The heads realizing they have no magic and freaking out a bit? Camilla despite thinking it's a horrible idea takes them in to help them out and teaches them to behave like people in authority should behave?
Like just imagine Terra mentioning poisoning some kids who annoys her and Camila whacks her with la chancla and scolds her how as an adult she should not be poisoning kids or threatening kids. Hettie says something twisted and Camila whacks her and then sits her down to talk about why she said that and why she thinks it's a good idea to say that and acts almost like a therapist for her?
Give me Raine playing his music on the streets to help make money, Darius helping keep the house clean cause they are guests, the other coven heads freaking out over Camila getting Eberwolf to speak English, Vitimir turning out to be a damn good cook cause potions is like cooking. Mason getting a part time job as a construction worker or demolishing things. Eda getting a new prosthetic arm and throwing herself into getting a way back to the demon realm cause damnit her kids are still there. Terra working on a garden and everyone being surprised a bit she could do it without magic, and then having to talk her down from murder once she learns about how much land and how many plants were destroyed by greedy humans.
One of the adults asking why Camila seemed to slip into another language and she gives them a lesson on Spanish and it turns into like an Earth knowledge lesson and all of them are blown away by just how big and populated the earth really is and how damn smart humans can be.
Give me Camila changing and helping the coven heads for the better even if it's just a little bit and the coven heads pretty much all agreeing that she would have been a much better leader than Belos.
Imagine the Demon Realms reactions when they finally get a portal open and the coven heads are back and they're dragging this human woman with them and demanding she be the new empress and all of the realms confused and baffled by the changes in the coven heads.
...sorry for how long this is but I just really like the idea of the coven heads and possibly Eda being stuck in the human world and get almost forced redeemed and most likely some therapy.
Oh my gosh hiii!! Wow that’s a lotbabshhsjahehehw
But yeah!! I called the au ‘9 more problems’ :]]. It’s only the coven heads. Imagine Luz in edas place with the whole taking kings hand, except when king does the sound roar eda steps out of the way, while raine and Darius (the only ones who hadn’t ran into the portal) don’t and get thrown in
I talk abt this a lot on the coven head enjoyers discord, but not really here actually!! I need to post more on itttt
I’m making a fic too!!! Very excited to get that done :D and I LOVE your ideas on how things could play out in this au, especially the ones that mean Camila whacking someone with a la chancla djsbjshsjwbsbd

when men say shit like "booo hooo i need to work 8h per day in a stupid factory or in a coal mine to earn a living wage while lucky privileged women only need to sell one (1) feet picture per week or marry rich and they're settled for life".... i cannot even begin to make the full unabridged list of all the points they're missing or intentionally trying not to see. because, point one, my hermano, you should probably take this very valid complaint to your employer. the permeating capitalistic rethoric we're all wallowing in has led you to believe that you cannot change the status quo and therefore you have come to accept your subjugation with complacency. in this state of supposed powerlessness and self-pity daze, you would never dare question your direct superior or the power dynamic they impose on you, in fact the only thing you feel brave enough to do is take your frustrations out on unemployed people surviving on welfare, immigrants, or sex workers. and that's literally the dumbest shit you could ever do because it's NOT them exploiting your labour by also deliberately allowing you just enough crumbs to keep your head above the water AND simultaneously pounding into your brain the mere delusion that you should indeed feel mildly content with your situation, because that's how it's always been and that's what you were born to do and that's what everyone else is doing and how dare you question that. anyone with a solid foothold on reality would tell you just as much, no? plus communism is just unfeasible and crazy and just as bad as fascism, after all. while capitalism just feels so right and has virtually no downsides or long-term consequences for the environment or humankind, am i right?
point second, women put out more work than anyone on this god-forsaken piece of junk floating in space and don't you ever dare say otherwise because, again, you'll only sound ridiculous and out of touch. women are responsible for ALL the care and emotional labour you have ever encountered or demanded in your life. in fact, without women and the enormous staggering gigantic weight of childbearing + childrearing + homemaking placed on their back since birth for millennia, you wouldn't even be breathing right now, and perhaps that wouldn't be such a bad thing now, would it?
furthermore, even if we're choosing to stupidly ignore the weight of being expected to care and assist every child or old person in your proximity, it's still worth mentioning that black and brown women make up 85% of the workforce employed in garments sweatshops, under appalling working conditions and laughable wages. I don't know what sort of tale you're telling yourselves but it seems to me that women are still getting the short end of the stick here as even the ones benefiting from white privilege are still, in fact, working "regular jobs" and being paid less for it than the average male coworker, while still not shying away from all the unpaid unseen labour that sustains entire households and family dynamics, the absence of which would lead to the downfall of patriarchal order and the world as we know it.
oh and as per the feet picture turn of phrase y'all keep coming back to.... I don't know how to explain to you that having your entire body and every single part of it commodified and sexualised and turned into a "kink" for men to get off to is not something you should be jealous of. the fact that there MAY be some money in it, might look like privilege and luck to you, but it's actually the only way women could find to own this unreciprocated unsolicited male desire and, being the resilient resourceful survivors that we are, we turned it into a viable career path, which still, doesn't come without its challenges and pitfalls, and should not really be idealized, as in many cases, it is not even a woman's first choice.
the latest wave of feminism has only now begun to try and correct all the wrongs and is still timidly attempting to recalibrate the scales of rights so that they're not too heavily tipped in your favor anymore. and even still, we probably won't reach full equality for the next 200 years because of all the lousy ignorant pathetic obtrusive misinformed bullshit you keep spreading, pushing back our efforts of several decades (-: the least you could do is literally just to SHUT UP and let the anti-capitalistic feminist agenda advance without further hindrance from the likes of socially unaware pricks in tinfoil hats like y'all.

so do the mercs just hang around kidnapping people? how would that even work? is there really enough demand for that to happen?
They're mercenaries, so they do pretty much anything people are willing to pay them for. The dog guys in the pilot were mercenaries hired by Draxum to get his empyrean back. Those guys were basically freelancers-there are larger companies that work more like an actual business. They all vary in morality codes as well, a lot of them don't get into kidnapping or trafficking. Of course, we don't see those guys, we're only seeing the ones willing to kidnap a fifteen-year-old. (or saw the bids and decided their morals had a price)
Kidnapping, assassination, arson, beating someone up, standing around looking tough, those are all things you'd contact a mercenary company for if you didn't want to get your hands dirty. Mercenary work is technically legal in the Hidden City-it's just all the stuff that they're normally contracted to do isn't. What they probably do most often is take part in gang shenanigans, but the gangs themselves have a lot of contempt for them. Especially the ones that are trying to kidnap Gale. They have standards.
As far there actually being a market for people like Gale, it all kind of plays into a lot of the greater world-building and 'capitalism is fucking with everything' theme. A lot of the very wealthy, upper crust people in the Hidden City are from wealthy, powerful families, and they have been wealthy and powerful for generations. Times are changing though, and they need to change with them if they're going to hold onto that wealth and power. They're going to need to do stuff. Be extraordinary, if they're going to make money.
Thing is, people aren't extraordinary just by virtue of being born into a rich family. Yeah, people who don't have to work a real job, have servants to do all the cooking and cleaning and caring for their every need, those people have ample time and energy to focus on their educations and learning valuable skills. But most of them just aren't going to distinguish themselves, because they're not distinguished individuals. And that won't do.
And besides, why would they bother with all that work when they could just kidnap a turtle and pass his inventions off as their own?
A lot of the powerful families in the Hidden City have highly skilled individuals 'working' for them, whether they be Yokai, humans, or mutants. (humans are often mutated to extend their lifespans and potentially increase productivity as well) This extends to both creative and intellectual pursuits, (and, realistically, sex reasons, but we're not getting into that) there are definitely books written by Lady McDickface or whatever that was typed out by some poor human chained up in her basement. They trade them, force them to have children that would theoretically inherit their parents' talents, and scout for new workers that wouldn't necessarily make a huge wave if they were to disappear. (so the same people targeted for human trafficking, except demand is much lower and they have a set of standards they look for) Draxum's mutant outbreak was actually great for them because suddenly there were a ton of people who weren't protected by the Hidden City but were already missing/assumed dead by the human authorities-this is one of the things that got cut with Todd's Mutant Town stuff, but Rockwell narrowly escaped this fate himself. He's living up there because safety in numbers.
I didn't make any of this up, by the way, this is how slavery functioned for much of world history. In many cultures, highly educated and skilled slaves were prized and very lucrative for their owners. (I've mentioned the most expensive slave ever sold before, and he was incredibly valuable because he was highly intelligent and educated from a young age) The only difference here is the need for secrecy. Because, you know, this is all illegal.
It's not worth the risk or the operating cost to do this for low-level workers because their labor is already cheap and easy to come by-which is also historical, most societies didn't 'end' slavery so much as outsource their own upkeep onto the peasants while keeping them trapped in a cycle of labor. And they could theoretically just pay Galois to invent stuff and sell it for him, they'd make money off of that...but they could make more the other way. Plus if they were contracting Gale to build stuff, then he could stop working if he wasn't happy with something, go to someone else to fund him if he had a problem, and also he'd have all these pesky rights saying they couldn't just beat him and force him to build whatever they want. Then he'd be the one with the real power, and that scares people like this.
Why doesn't this happen irl? Bro, if you told me today that Elon Musk had someone in his basement making all of his decisions for him, the only thing I'd be surprised about is that the real Elon Musk would be even dumber than that guy. But for real, I probably shouldn't give the rich ideas, they've already talked about putting bomb collars on us to serve them through the apocalypse.
...Fuck, I did it again.

K it's a little dark so tw// for that but uhm. I've had this stuck in my head all day and don't know what to do with it :)
“No. You only come ‘round when you need something, so you're gonna tell me what it is this time.” All the Shepard boys look like their father. And man, has Tim never hated that cold glare like he does right now. His father grins, swinging the bronze key around his finger before dropping it in his pocket. It'll be a couple dollars to get the locks changed and a new set of keys for everyone. Money ol’ Mr. Shepard knows his son and daughter-in-law don't have.
“I've been in town a few days,” he says easily, “mostly on the North side. Found this joint called Charlie’s. Lotta fellas ‘round your age hang ‘round down there. Y’know any of ‘em?”
If Tim realized the way Sylvia slunk back half a step, his father wouldn't have gotten another word out. But he didn't.
“Found my way down to Tiber, too. S’crazy what can happen in a few years. Lot’s changed. They're nice guys- real hard workers. You'd get along just fine with ‘em if you gave ‘em the chance, Tim.”
“They're your kind of guys. I got standards.”
There's another quick look in Sylvia’s direction. Another chance Tim had to stop it. He misses again. Strike two.
“Just makes me a little disappointed, is all,” Mr. Shepard drawls. “I got talkin’ with this one guy, can't remember his name. Said he had it all, decent apartment, a girl, even got a baby and a car-”
Sylvia's weak in the knees, leaning against the countertop for support rather than her husband. She knows he’s scared of his father. Maybe scared isn't the right word for it anymore, but Shepard Senior is as wild and unpredictable as the bulls Tim used to ride.
“-then one day, she just takes off. Won't even let him see the baby they had together. Ain't that just a damn shame?”
She can barely breathe now. Tim’s finally caught on, eyes darting from his longest friend to the man he was supposed to love. “What do you want?”
“I need some money. Enough to get me through the border.”
“And what if I told you I don't have any money to spend on you?”
“Then I’d bet that boy down in Tiber would be real interested in hearin’ where his girl took off to.”
Tumblr media
Tim doesn’t know what to do.
Part of him wants to shout, to yell and scream for his dad to get the hell out of town, the hell out of his house. Who does he think he is anyway? What does he think gives him the right to come back after being gone for long and ask for money? And then to threaten Tim’s wife and Tim’s daughter? Tim thinks he’s gotta be out of his mind.
That same part of him knows that he can take on Billy Dawson. That part of him knows that he’ll win. He can take on the boy who made Sylvia’s life miserable and finally he’ll be able to make that bastard understand what happens when yo mess with someone under the protection of a Shepard.
But there’s another part. A quieter, less aggressive part.
That’s the part that has him reaching back for Sylvia, pulling her into his arms but keeping her behind him, as far from his father as Tim can manage. That’s the part that’s telling him that even though Tim can take Billy Dawson, Tim can’t protect everyone.
He has to work. Sylvia has to work. Lori has to go to school. He can’t protect them all the time, he can’t be there for them all the time, no matter how badly he wants to be.
Tim sighs and hangs his head. He feels like he’s a kid again, sad and scared. “How much do you need?”

How did the collective brain cell of left leaning young people on the Internet go from "you're actual scum of the earth if you leave your shopping cart in the parking lot and not in the designated cart return because you're giving some poor underpaid worker more work to do" to "shoplifting is something we should all do because fuck corporations", as if the same underpaid workers aren't affected by shoplifting as well?
I'm not talking about pay docking here (although some folks sure jumped on the "that's illegal just sue your boss :)" train fast despite repeatedly listing off reasons why it's not that easy when it comes to debates about wage gaps), I'm talking about inventory.
A daily part of my job is going down aisles (different aisles for different days) and writing down everything that's missing, and documenting whether we're just out of that product, or we have less than we're supposed to. If we're in the negative, I have to check anywhere that we might stock stuff that wouldn't fit on the shelf. If I can't find the missing product, I document the amount that we're short, and then our guy in charge of managing inventory has to go through and double check everything.
There is also full store inventory, which we do once a year, where we have to get a count of every single thing in the store, and when we have our list of negatives, we go over it multiple times, narrowing it down as far as we possibly can until we're certain we have an accurate count. The more things that are missing, the longer we have to be there.
Inventory starts on a Saturday and always carries over to Sunday. I work in a store that closes early every Saturday and is never open on Sunday, yet inventory weekend is the longest two work days of the entire year because we have to finish the count, we can't just call it a day at closing time (and obviously, it is the one Sunday out of the year where I have to go to work, so that's fun).
The store I work at actually pays really well, and we all got hefty bonuses in early 2022 because we made record breaking sales, so obviously, paying for your stuff does actually benefit the employees. But we still have to deal with shoplifters and rubber checks and all other forms of bullshit people try to pull to get stuff without paying for it. And none of these people are stealing from us because they're starving or in need of life saving meds and can't afford them; I work in a fucking construction supply store. It is employed people who make more than I do stealing stuff because they don't wanna spend their own money. I once found an empty pack of Sharpies that someone had shoplifted and left the packaging behind. If you're shoplifting Sharpies, it's not because you need something that you can't afford; it's because you're a dumb bitch.
Also, if we witness shoplifting firsthand, the proper procedure is to just let them walk out, but to take down as much information about that person as possible, such as what they looked like/were wearing and the license and model of the vehicle they were driving.
And it just grinds my gears to hop on Tumblr or Twitter and see some dumb fuck Comrade™️ who lives above the poverty line patting themselves on the back for being the voice of the working class, and talking about how jobs are hell and no one should have to work, and then go boasting about their shoplifting exploits because they're ~sticking it to the man~, and writing off everyone who criticizes the promotion of shoplifting as just some corporate bootlicker.
THE MAN DOESN'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT YOUR FIVE FINGER DISCOUNT CARDIGAN, BRENDA. THE WORKER YOU CLAIM TO STAND IN SOLIDARITY WITH IS GOING OVER THE STORE WITH A CLIPBOARD TO CONFIRM WHETHER IT'S ACTUALLY MISSING OR JUST MISPLACED. YOU'RE GIVING US MORE WORK TO DO, AND IT'S MORE TIME CONSUMING THAN PUSHING A CART ACROSS A PARKING LOT. CUT IT OUT AND PAY FOR YOUR SHIT.

I think where my therapist and I went wrong when we tackled my childhood trauma is her fundamentally misunderstanding what I need from this recovery, and me not being able to effectively communicate it.
When I told her what I'd been through I didn't need her to tell me how resilient I was, how well I was coping considering, or how valid I was for feeling my feelings. I know there's value in being told that you're allowed to feel sadness, anger, grief, and there's value in being told that you made it this far so you're capable of still going, and there's value in being told what you're doing right. Maybe it works for most trauma patients, but I'm autistic. All I am is aware of myself.
All I am is aware of how I'm coping, what I'm feeling, that it's valid. I learned very early on in my life that emotions and feelings are out of my control and developed a sort of vicious possessiveness over my emotions and feelings. No one is allowed to dare to question or tell me how to feel because not even I can tell myself how to feel.
I'm also intensely aware of the actions have consequences aspect of life. If I do this to cope this will be the outcome, and that's undesirable so I need something better. I learn from others' mistakes before I make them too. A friend has an eating disorder for 3 years and then develops epilepsy. I educate myself on nutrition and battle my own ARFID heavily and strictly, forcing myself to put in effort to process foods I struggle with so they're less horrible to consume, because I know I need those nutrients. I have a severe lapse during my final year of university, losing so much weight that a congenital heart defect I've never known about and which was never discovered makes itself known.
I find a meal substitute that I can consume when my ARFID is at its worst. A friend has frequent panic attacks and self harms. I start to see the campus therapist for my anxiety when I start to notice self harming behaviors in myself before it escalates. I start Journaling, use grounding techniques I found on Tumblr, exercise, start anxiety medication. I make these decisions myself and then discuss the efficacy with my therapist to adjust the techniques where needed. I'm proactive in my own treatment.
A friend tells me about cptsd, how unlike with regular ptsd that comes from a single major traumatizing event that lasted a couple years at most, cptsd is the continued and persistent culmination of a variety of small traumas over a long period of time. Chemically virtually the same, effectively much different. I go through my entire life and every small thing that's stuck with me and built up in my behaviors and thoughts with my therapist, how I'm grieving a childhood I never got to have.
What I needed was to know how to not be so angry, so disgusted and so stuck over small things that happened years ago. I didn't need to know that I'm allowed to be angry that the daycare worker taped my eyes shut because I wouldn't sleep during nap time. I know I'm allowed. I want to know how to think about it without wanting to violently assault the person whose actions made me think about it.
I didn't need to know that I'm really functional for someone who's had severe undiagnosed, unaccommodated, and untreated adhd and autism for two decades. I know I am. It's a point of pride for me that I learn from everything and everyone around me how to live the most effective life with the least amount of trouble, because my disabilities cause enough trouble as it is. I needed to know how to not want to throttle a friend because she bought a couch on lay-by while still owing me money. I don't even care about the money, I'm just irrationally angry about how irresponsible she was, because my dad was always irrationally angry about irresponsible financial decisions and I don't want to be like that.
I didn't need to know that I'm allowed to grieve the childhood I never had. I know that. I also know that a lot of what I missed out on I now have the opportunity to do because I'm medicated, educated and accommodated. What I needed to know was how to not hate children for being young, irresponsible and badly behaved, because I was never allowed to be young, irresponsible and badly behaved.
And maybe it was on me for not communicating my needs properly, but it resulted in probably the worst mental health spiral I've ever had because at the time it felt like there was no solution. That I'd just be hurt and bitter and angry for the rest of my life with no reprieve.
