What Is Vegan Leather Made Of? Many Plant Leathers Are Being Used (greenmatters.com)
Yes, plant leather is a great idea (not better than animal leather, in my personal opinion, but that's down to each individual's thoughts on the matter). But unfortunately much of it just can't replicate many of real leather's beneficial properties- and a lot of plant leathers heavily involve plastic in their production. (source)
Look, ALL clothing production needs to be more sustainable at this point. The chemicals involved in tanning actual leather, unless it's organic leather, aren't good for the environment either. And I will never rag on someone for their choice to avoid real leather- we're all just trying, I hope, to make the best choices according to our values and within the confines of a broken system (as long as we're not hurting anyone else). For me, the massive habitat loss and environmental destruction caused by plastics production and waste is a greater evil than the deaths of individual animals in the production of meat and/or leather. So I choose real leather and try to make each piece last as long as I can, aware that any choice I make will have environmental impacts and is not perfect. Someone else might see it differently, and I really am not in a position to judge their choices.
However.
The term "vegan leather" is blatant greenwashing, and 99% of the time it applies to plastic. If people prefer to wear plastic to avoid real leather, that's fine, but they- and moreover companies -need to be honest about that. Just like synthetic fabrics should be called plastic, so should synthetic leather. Even some of the allegedly "plant-based" stuff, it turns out.
I'm honest that my real leather is animal hide. Time for the faux-green fashion industry to display some honesty of its own.

Spring hiking around northern Arkansas. I haven't been out hiking much this year yet, but hopefully I'll manage to get out more at the end of April to catch some more spring wildflowers.

In the hush of a forest cloaked in the mystery of dawn, light filters through the ancient trees, casting moving shadows upon the earth kissed with dew. The brilliance of the sun, peeking through the dense canopy, graces the scene with an ethereal glow, giving life to the floating particles that dance in the air like silent, sparkling phantoms. The undergrowth is lush and vibrant, a tapestry of green moss that rolls across the woodland floor, punctuated by the delicate white caps of wildflowers and fungi standing proudly among the verdure.
An unassuming dirt path meanders, weaving through this enchanted tableau, leading to a rustic cabin that exudes a sense of timeless solitude. Nested at the edge of clarity, where light and darkness converge, the cabin appears as though it sprung from fairy tales, shrouded in the essence of whispered secrets and tales untold.
The forest's breath, a gentle breeze, carries with it the scent of wet earth and pine, mingling with the subtle fragrance of blooms that have dared to unfurl amidst the dew. The quiet is profound, almost sacred, broken only by the soft symphony of nature's awakening as the forest stirs to life.
What secrets does the solitary cabin hold within its wooden walls? Who might have tread upon this path, seeking solace or adventure in the heart of the wilderness? Could these woods have witnessed the ebbs and flows of countless lives, yet remain impossibly still, a guardian of history?
Was the traveler drawn here by the siren call of the wild or in search of a respite from the clamor of civilization? As the forest watches in silent observance, the questions linger, hanging like the mist that slowly lifts to reveal the morning's full splendor.

Dolly Sods and the adjacent Flat Rock and Roaring Plains sprawl across a rugged plateau at the edge of the Allegheny Front, which drains much of the moisture from passing clouds. The water drains poorly on the plateau, resulting in sphagnum bogs that host a variety of plants and animals uniquely adapted to the cool, acidic environment.
From top: Mountain laurel (Kalmia latifolia), which in combination with blueberry, huckleberry and minniebush forms impenetrable thickets along the edges of the bogs; spoonleaf sundew (Drosera intermedia), also known as spatulate-leaved sundew, one of two species of carnivorous sundew to grow here; small cranberry (Vaccinium oxycoccos), also known as bog cranberry, whose tiny flowers have strongly recurved petals; possumhaw viburnum (Viburnum nudum), also known as wild raisin due to its vibrantly-hued fruits in the fall; canaan fir (Abies balsamea var. phanerolepis), a recognized subspecies of balsam fir known from only a few locations in West Virginia and Virginia; and bunchberry (Cornus canadensis), which grows prolifically in the dappled sunlight along trail edges.
