for you, andante by xuanxuanwo (ostentatiouslyrealistic)
Loveeeee this! Warm and endearing ❤️
(Perfect for a hot cup of tea and a warm blanket by a window on a cold, winter day.)
Quotes:
Fully attuned to the fact that there’s a live performance happening in the shop, Lan Wangji follows the music easing from the back. Navigating through the maze of shelves isn’t easy, and while there are books stacked in tall piles against the walls, they aren’t strewn across the hardwood floor. The light dims between the shelves, most likely to add to the ambiance of the hybrid shop.
The music grows louder as he nears the back, and it’s a quiet combination of plucking and strumming. The melody isn’t one that he’s heard of, but it’s soothing, articulated clearly with deft fingers and skill. The notes remain low, accompanied by a base rhythm that complements the melody—it’s gentle, music carefully hewn with a chaotic precision.
It reminds Lan Wangji of an autumn afternoon with falling leaves and a cup of tea. Simple yet poignant.
————
Wei Ying’s first chord is tentative, a dragonfly landing on the water’s glassy surface. The notes ripple in concentric rings that grow and grow. Larger, faster, louder—all of it swelling until the song breaks into a jaunty tune. His guitar sings, melodies and harmonies weaving seamlessly into one. His mouth crooks into a self-satisfied smile, as if he knows his effect on his audience, knows the way he captivates them with each strum, each pluck.
Now, Lan Wangji understands. His first exposure to Wei Ying’s music hadn’t been through rose-tinted glasses. Hadn’t been influenced by the dissatisfaction of Lan Wangji’s own performance. The magic isn’t lost, nor has it attenuated since that first week. In fact, it has amplified the same way the sun breaks through the horizon, scattering peony petals across the clouds.
T, 35600
Summary:
“Looks like he’s taken a liking to you,” Wei Ying says with a huff. Lan Wangji’s world shifts another ninety degrees when he’s pinned with the full force of Wei Ying’s attention. The guitarist perches on the other half of A-Yuan’s seat and slides an arm around the boy, smoothing back his hair before tweaking his nose. A-Yuan twitches, and Lan Wangji practically burns where Wei Ying had grazed against his shoulder.
Wei Ying leans over and sets his chin lightly against A-Yuan’s head. There’s a gleam to his eye, silver coins that put all other metals in the world to shame. The boy sniffs again, and slowly, under the hollow of the guitarist’s body, he relaxes. “And who,” Wei Ying continues, “has bewitched my little radish?”
--
On a rainy Thursday evening, after his final concert of the season, pianist Lan Wangji ducks into a bookshop, befriends a toddler, falls in love with a guitarist, and, ultimately, rediscovers his passion for music.

All those stories where Lan Wangji and/or Wei Wuxian are immortal and go around adventuring or saving people or waiting for their lost love to reincarnate like,, there’s gotta be songs about them?
And even when they’re not, even when they live and die and get reborn in Ancient China (or the fantasy equivalent thereof) there’s gotta be old folk songs calling them lovers and ‘bosom friends’ and pop songs referencing them and newer folk music written by queer people about them being in love without one of them being a girl or pretending that they were friends and Lan Wangji was in love with Wen Qing or whatever The Straights cooked up to pretend that gay people were invented in the 1950s in this universe. Like,, they are FOLK HEROES, I want SONGS about them!!

How badly do we want to dislike Lan Qiren in this fic?
I need an antagonist and he is very quickly shaping up to be the "evil stepmother" of the story. Between that and Jiang Cheng just being himself we should have good angst?
Right?
Not really sure what's Going to happen with Jiang Cheng though... Either he gets laid and gets over himself or he's getting his legs broken.

In the mood for...

1. hi there!! i’m really fond of your page. i wonder if you’ve got fics with wei wuxian as an idol but lan wangji with another job and falls in love with wei wuxian before discovering that he’s an idol or something like that. preferably mdzs fandom instead of cql-verse, if you could? thank yoou so much beforehand 💕
When the Lights Come Up by brooklinegirl (E, 50k, wangxian, modern, Notting Hill AU, famous WWX, non famous LWJ, Break ups and make ups, Musician WWX, bookseller LWJ) Not an idol but rock star wwx and bookseller lwj!
The Fault in Our Stars by Vamillepudding (T, 17k, WangXian, Modern AU, Getting Together, Romantic Comedy, Comedy of Errors, Misunderstandings, the title makes it sound like a cancer story, it's not a cancer story) They were both famous, but don't realize the other is as well. A lovely rom com fic.
Twitter fic by @/cerbykerby
does your pretty face see what he's worth by defractum (nyargles) (E, 27k, WangXian, Modern AU, Rock Band, Ballet, Second Chances, Unresolved Sexual Tension, Long-Distance Friendship) has rock star WWX and ballet dancer LWJ, but it's not LWJ not knowing WWX is famous, exactly, just discovering his friend from dance class has gotten famous while he's been busy building a career.
you'll always know me by ana_cp (E, 127k, wangxian, modern, Actor WWX, Teacher LWJ, Getting Back Together, Exes to Lovers, is it exes to lovers if you never quite defined your relationship?, Angst with a Happy Ending, LWJ being cute with children alert, WWX rides a motorcycle, LWJ writes as a hobby, Back hugs as a love language, Sharing Food as a Love Language) Another one where WWX isn't exactly an idol (he's a famous actor) and LWJ knows him from before he was famous, so maybe not exactly what they're looking for, but a great story nonetheless.

7. Hi hi thank you so much for your hard work!! This blog means a lot for me to find many many fics🤣
...
Now, I'm in the mood of fics where wwx is the one being rich rich, meanwhile lwj financially struggle or at least not as rich as wwx, I am hoping for wwx family disapprove of wx relationship as well (maybe because of past incident, difference status, etc) basically the opposite of usual wx relationship in fics, and of course wx endgame and happy ending🥺🥺. The setting can be a royalty, modern, cultivation world, or anything else.
Thank you so much🩵🩵🩵 @yourslwj
there is a fic like that, i know it, i just can’t really put my finger on it. LZ is basically working as a sugar baby and WWX is his sugar daddy. I also remember LZs Mother being a nurse and working really hard to keep them afloat. I think she got sick at some point? Im sorry, i really want to help. If anyone knows what this is called, i would appreciate it a lot.
finally safe (for me to fall) by sassybluee (E, 77k, WangXian, Modern: No Powers, Sugar Daddy, Age Difference, Sex Work, Rich WWX, Older WWX, Service Top WWX, Poor LWJ, Single Parent LWJ, Sugar Baby LWJ, Family Issues, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Angst with a Happy Ending, Slow Burn, Cockblocking, Anal Sex, Blow Jobs, No Lube, Lube, Addiction, Compulsory Heterosexuality, Implied/Referenced Abuse, wangxian + others) it's a sugar daddy/sugar baby fic where lwj is a single father and struggling to care for himself and A-Yuan

8. Hi! I was wondering if you have stumbled to a juniors see the yiling laozu phase in action or react to him in that mode.. also are the past react to wei ying in laozu phase post canon like a time travel or something😅 @myst1210
~*~
9. itmf for dads wwx and lwj but i want lwj to be the lenient parent and wwx the strict one, thank you!
~*~
10. Can I make an odd fic request? I want to expand my skills as an author and try to write with more personality and flair. I know this will come with experience and that I will eventually find my own style, but I want to also open my eyes to great examples from more experienced authors. So can everyone please recommend their favorite fics that have a unique or memorable writing style/author’s voice? If possible, include in your rec what in particular you like about it. Thank you all so much!
This fandom has so many incredible writers. The ones that come to mind immediately with a unique voice are 💖 Pentimento. by orange_crushed (E, 73k, wangxian, modern, college/university au, art conservation, museums, pining, not actually unrequited love, angst w/ happy ending, misunderstandings, smut, major character injury, hospitalization, hurt/comfort, past incarceration, forgery) link in #2 live from new york: an snl au series by varnes (E, 105k, WangXian, XuanLi, Modern AU, SNL AU, Slow Burn, Friends to Lovers, Pining, Getting Together, Happy Ending, Idiots in Love, and they were ROOMMATES, Frottage, Light Bondage, could not be lighter or gentler bondage) In Imitation of Life by travelingneuritis (E, 70k, wangxian, modern cultivation, scifi au, android WWX, tone: neon seedy, rich people are bored and terrible, post-apocalyptoc landscape, happy ending, smut, severe major characger injury, time loss) (Those last two can fit for the long fic category too) Everything by spodumene Honestly it's hard to not just say like a hundred of them sjsjfj - Ah I just finished reading the rest of the request. What I like most about their writing is that they have this ability to pain the world they wrote like a picture. With these lines that leave me sitting in awe
i 100% agree about the loads of fantastic authors in this fandom. i wanted to mention 2: s6115 - i love how they get to the absolute heart of the characters and express their emotions, and they also balance it with humor very well H_Belle - i would call their writing…. snappy? idk if it's the right word but they keep the writing tight and moving and intriguing
For 10: anything by ScarlettStorm, her writing has a really solid voice! Also paired wings soaring by typefortydeductions (E, 33k, WangXian, Modern, slice of life, domestic bliss, angst, fluff, smut, hurt/Comfort, kissing, bdsm, artist WWX, poetry translator LWJ, slight somnophilia) has a very unique and wonderful narrative style.
I would recommend ScarlettStorm, who has great found families and depth of character and a particular breezy style I like. Also Ariaste, who has a similar style and excels at getting the most out of a premise. Also Sami, in particular the Paper Moon series because of her thoughtfulness about character development and how that drives the plot and the neat way she weaves the story together and has excellent narrative consistency. One more - hansbekhart is a tremendously skilled writer who, like orange_crushed (recced above), can just hit you with a brick of emotions. Highly recommend both authors as those who can drag deep, vast emotions out of you and leave you feeling as if you're a different person after you've read their fic. In particular, I suggest Roots Grow Riotous by hansbekhart.
for an example of fantastic writing, Twelve Moons and a Fortnight series by stiltonbasket on ao3 is EXCELLENT (intricate layered worldbuilding in vast timeline, awesome imagery and characterizations and build towards pivotal scenes). Also I personally love Cradle by dragonesque (one of best/fav show down diss scenes, politics) & The Murder of Crows by cerbykerby; to name a few
Say More by lettered (E, 55k, WIP, WangXian, Modern AU, Pining, Mutual Pining, Slow Burn, non-graphic drug use, non-graphic withdrawal, Drug Addiction, one suicidal thought, negative thought, wwx struggles with Mandarin and feeling connected to Chinese culture, this is not a large plot point but bears mention, Compulsory Heterosexuality, wwx kisses a girl, Sexuality Crisis, Gay Panic, some gender confusion and questions without serious gender questioning, incorrect definition of omnisexuality, Open Relationships, Masochistic Fantasies, non-graphic sadomascochistic realities, humiliation fantasies, Submission Fantasies, some D/s realities, one condomless blowjob, suggestions of some unhealthy co-dependence, Possessive Behavior, Slight Consensual Non-Consent, Frottage) For the itmf ask about works with unique voices I can happily recommend lettered's "say more", currently a wip. They use frequent semicolons and extreme mood swings to illustrate what's its like in wwx's fast-branching and self-effacing thoughts.
总有一天; a place to hide (can’t find one near) by yiqie (E, 76k, WangXian, Modern AU, Pianist, Getting Together, Mental Health Issues, Suicide Attempt, Suicidal Thoughts, Depression, Hospitals, Overdosing, Eventual Happy Ending, Hurt/Comfort, Additional Warnings In Author's Note) for great writing this story is amazing. It will make you cry, and there is a happy ending
~*~
11. hello! hope y’all are doing great 🥰 idk if there are a lot of fics for this ask but recently i read one of your recs luminous by azuresummer and i absolutely love it, in the fic wwx is a jiaoren who is unable to verbally communicate with lwj so for the next itmf, i would appreciate more recs of fics where there is a language barrier between wangxian, any au is fine. Thank you so much ! 💖 @makkachiin
💖 splash;; by defractum (nyargles) (E, 11k, wangxian, F/F, modern cultivation, Gender Changes, Merpeople, Humanfucking, the opposite of monsterfucking, Rule 63)
~*~
12. ITMF Wei Ying appreciation fics!! People realising how much wwx did for them and continues to do so. Bonus if it's ANGSTY
Hi for #12 itmf here. It's good, but not what I wanted. For example, wwx got injured, and now people are really worried like oh wwx did so much for us , i wouldn't handle it if he were to no longer be here. Also it can be about people loving wwx, bonus if there's good yzy and lqr.
New Perspective by mrcformoso (T, 8k, WangXian, Angst, Hopeful Ending, Fatherhood, Regrets, Flashbacks, POV LWJ, LWJ-centric, Canonical Character Death - WWX, Pining LWJ, LWJ Has Feelings, LWJ Needs a Hug, Character Development, Dead WWX, Introspection, Feelings, LWJ is Bad at Feelings, Character Study, Regretful LWJ, Breaking Toxic Cycles, Canon Compliant, LWJ in Seclusion, Post-LWJ, in Seclusion, Child LSZ) you asked for angst and you shall receive. lwj appreciating wwx after he died, and using that as a starting point for change
And Time Is But a Paper Moon by sami (M, 139k, WangXian, XiChengQing, Time Travel, Fix-It, Everyone Lives/Nobody Dies, Healing, Mental Health Issues, PTSD, Hurt/Comfort, Depression, BAMF WWX, BAMF JC, BAMF LWJ, BAMF JYL, Getting Together) And Time Is But A Paper Moon, time travel fix-it, has a situation in the middle (starting at chapter 28) where it's evident everyone cares for Wei Wuxian, and the story as a whole has great Yu Ziyuan and Lan Qiren, and develops their relationships with Wei Wuxian in interesting ways.
See all this and more for just ten dollars a month! Series by ScarlettStorm (E, 382k, WIP, WangXian, Modern AU, Getting Together, Pining, Porn, like in the writing and also as a plot point, onlyfans au, repressed lwj, sex worker wwx, Minor Angst, major shenanigans, hornt(tm), mental health, therapy is good actually, Nonbinary NHS, Gender Exploration, Hurt/Comfort, past trauma, genderfluid wwx) ScarlettStorm's got a series (See all this and more for just ten dollars a month!) where they're both in therapy and work through all their issues like real adults including past trauma but also household budgeting, etc.
leave all your love and your longing behind by ScarlettStorm (E, 143k, WangXian, Modern AU, no magic, Meet-Ugly, Panic Attacks, autistic lwj, neurodivergent wwx, the neighborhood asshole dog, if you’ve met one then you know, Hurt/Comfort, Pining, Minor Angst, major shenanigans, Happy Ending, for everyone including the asshole dog, Eventual Smut, switch rights, Sex Toys, horny yearning, Masturbation) Also recommend the meet ugly story, leave all your love and your longing behind, for just, grown up adulting WangXian + extended family
I'm Sorry & Thank You by Iamnotawriter (T, 12k, wangxian, post-canon, Canon Compliant, Golden Core, Canon-Typical Violence, LQR's epipheny, Angst with a Happy Ending)
u may want to check out variations of watching/reading the series tags. Some follow exactly with great character reactions like The Characters of MDZS Watching the Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation by emma_screams (M, 147k, WIP, WangXian, Humor, Fluff, Angst, Drama) book canon Misunderstood by Silver_Flame_2724 (M, 250k, WIP, WangXian, Alcohol Abuse/Alcoholism, Heavy Angst, Suicidal Thoughts, Canon-Typical Violence, Self-Worth Issues) very au/diverging au, set immediately after first seige w/ wwx backstory that happened 'offscreen' & dif resurrection
~*~
13. Hi loves! Thanks for all the word you put into the blog! I check it so often it might as well be the newspaper 🤣
For the next itmf I’d like something kinda specific: wangxian, established relationship, when they fight, but like fighting the way married people do, as in a “healthy” fight or because they care about the other or things like that. It can have angst but it must be happy ending or my heart won’t be able to take it! Don’t want cheating or infidelity tho, and no ABO please either.
Thank you!!!!!!!
Waiting for Spring by thievinghippo (E, 130k, WangXian, Modern AU, Mutual Pining, Pining while fucking, slight angst, Happy Ending, for a baseball fic, there’s not a lot of baseball, Sports, Baseball) the second fic in boys of summer comes to mind, with feelings Saturday. Not much arguing though more lots of healthy communicating
~*~
14. Hi, do you know any fics about the kids crushing on wei ying like post canon embarrassing sizhui about his milf dad or him accepting that his dad is interested basically in a random lunatic twink? @quxxnrandonmness27
Help, My Dad Is Fucking Someone My Age!! by sweetlolixo (T, 3k, WangXian, Canon Divergence, Humor, Crack, Fluff, Romance)
~*~
15. ITMF where Lan Wangji is a little more outspoken and Wei WuXian is a little less oblivious and they get together early. The less angst the better.
Thank you for your time ૮ ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ ა @tinyfoxpeach
Pigtail Pulling by protos_metazu_ison (G, 3k, WangXian, Fluff and Humor, Crack Treated Seriously, Cloud Recesses Shenanigans)
💖 Magical Marriage Ribbons Series by starandrea (Varies, 1m, WangXian, Canon Divergence, Accidental Marriage, Fluff, Happy Ending, Telepathic bond, Kink Negotiation, Family Drama, Magical Pregnancy, Dual Cultivation, Shapeshifters, Modern with Magic, Immortality, Yilling Wei Sect, podfic) Super fluffy, very little angst, they figure things out shortly after the handfasting in Lan Yi's cave.
~*~
16. In the mood for fics where LWJ loses his golden core & how he deals with it. Don't mind whether WWX also loses his or not, but hard pass on anything where WWX gives LWJ his core (unless they find a way to share somehow). @thispatternismine
stay, fury, your wrist wrapped in silk by spookykingdomstarlight (E, 228k, wangxian, Canon Divergence, Yiling Laozu LWJ, LWJ loses his golden core, yiling wei sect, Hurt/Comfort, Heavy Angst, Major Character Injury, Injury Recovery, Temporary Character Death, War Crimes, Wen Remnant, wangxian Get a Happy Ending, Revenge, LWJ goes dark for a while, WWX has a hard time with the bad shit going on around him, JGS is a bastard, Protracted Sunshot Campaign, War is war and hell is hell and of the two war is a lot worse, temporary impotence, growing intimacy, LWJ and WWX and the Wen Remnant live in the Burial Mounds together, WWX travels with LWJ and stays at his side post-Sunshot, Spanish Translation)
~*~
17. Hi Mods! hope you have a good day! for the ITMF I have two things I would like to ask A) a fic with a wangxian wedding in detail! like what they are wearing and doing, and B) a fic with some focus on Ouyang Zizhen bonding with WWX,
17A)
This Time With Lanterns by ChaoticAndrogynous (T, 6k, WangXian, post-canon cql, Tooth-Rotting Fluff, Light Angst, WWX's canonical self-esteem problems, Friendship/Love, doting husband LWJ, Cultivators In Love, the duckling squad ship them so hard, not really arranged marriage but surprise wedding)
🧡 a stone to break your soul, a song to save it by rikke (M, 180k, wangxian, Canon Divergence, arranged marriage) It's been a while since I read it, but pretty sure -- has a lot of detail about the wedding and the leadup.
17B)
卧薪尝胆 by RoseThorne (G, 978, WangXian, OYZZ & WWX, Petty LWJ, Bunnies, False Accusations, scapegoating, Cultivation Sect Politics, Chief Cultivator LWJ, POV Third Person, POV WWX)

If you didn’t get an answer to your ask here, don’t forget to make use of @mdzs-kinkmeme and MDZS KINK MEME on Dreamwidth. Authors actually do use them for ideas. You may get what you order!***Your prompt doesn’t have to be kink! Fluff, crack, whatever - it’s all good!***

So I’m a massive Assassin’s Creed nerd (I have almost every game and I just finished Mirage) which has led me to make a new fic prompt for an Assassin’s Creed AU for the MXTX universe.
So our modern assassin is Wei Wuxian, because I think he fits the vibe the most. His main task is to comb through the memories of his ancestors to find the bloodline of the Isu Sages.
His first trip lands him in the head of Luo Binghe, a former Cang Qiong disciple later indoctrinated into the Hidden Ones after being kicked out by his master Shen Jiu. As Luo Binghe begins his arc to get his revenge on the martial sects, and eliminate Master cultivators belonging to the Order of Ancients, he discovers Cang Qiong’s greatest secret. The Isu Sage Shen Yuan. Luo Binghe then devotes his mission to protecting Shen Yuan from the Order, and along the way finds Shang Qinghua and Mobei Jun, assassins spying on the Order. Somewhere along the way, Shen Yuan and Luo Binghe fall in love.
WWX’s second trip lands him in the memories of Hua Cheng of the Ghost Kingdom. Hua Cheng is at first the second in command of Prince Xie Lian, who is a Sage, in the kingdom of Xianle. Hua Cheng loses contact with Xianle after a siege and ends up becoming first an apprentice of the Hidden Ones, and then years later the leader of their controlled land Ghost Kingdom. Hua Cheng is tasked with weeding out the Order from both kingdoms, leading him to finally reunite with Xie Lian after several years apart. Eventually they marry and unite the two kingdoms.
Back in the modern era, Wei Wuxian has been keeping tabs on one of Abstergo’s most wanted: the musician Lan Wangji.
Wei Wuxian infiltrates the Lan Clan to get close to him and along the way they strike up a serious bond. But because of Wei Wuxian’s role in the Creed, they’re unsure if it’s safe to be together.
Eventually Wei Wuxian realizes that Lan Wangji is the Isu Sage they’ve been looking for. More importantly, his trips into the past show him that in every one of their lives, they have found eachother and fallen in love, and that they were always meant to be together.

*Writing Prompt*
“Why? What did we miss?” Wei Wuxian asks blithely.
Lan Qiren stares at them disbelievingly. Lan Wangji stares back unblinkingly.
Lan Xichen steps in to say delicately, “It appears that while you two were… gone-” He does not say ‘on your honeymoon’, smile somewhat stiff. Understandably he doesn’t seem to know what to make of his baby brother eloping with a boy he’d known for fifteen minutes, if that. “-Wen Ruohan and his family suffered a… tragic accident.”
“Wild timing,” Wei Wuxian says, spinning his new dizi.
Lan Xichen had not been aware Wei-gongzi was a musician.
Lan Qiren squints at him suspiciously. “… Indeed,” he says at last.
Lan Wangji just nods serenely at this news. “We should send our condolences.”
Wei Wuxian bursts out laughing like that’s the funniest thing he’s ever heard.

Wangji
by AbysmalJezebel
G, 2k, Wangxian
Summary: In the end, he picks the guqin. It is the exact opposite of who Lan Wangji is; it is loud, and it is passionate. The thrum of the strings demand attention and evoke raw feeling. It is everything he has ever wanted to be. And so he named it Wangji. Kay's comments: I love stories that explore how Lan Wangji came to name his story Wangji and this one was perfect, I loved the ideas behind it and Lan Wangji's characterization. There's just a hint of canon divergence in this, could be read a canon compliant as well though! Excerpt: For the next eight years, Wangji becomes his everything. His entire being and essence, his emotions and his face. All of it translates through Wangji. Without his guqin, he becomes cursed again. That faceless, soulless boy that people were unsettled by. And he absolutely hates that. He never wants to be without Wangji again. Unsurprisingly, It is not long before he’s the most talented musician in all of Cloud Recess and, by default, in all of Gusu. Every hour not spent in class or other duties is spent on Wangji. He composes music, he creates renditions of his favorite songs, and he cultivates in a way nobody has ever cultivated with an instrument before. He is happy. He is free. It matters not if he’s drowned in thousands of rules that mean to repress. With Wangji, he needs nothing else. He will follow every rule as perfectly as possible if it means he gets to keep his beloved guqin. And then, a disruption to his tranquil life, Wei Wuxian happens. He is fifteen years old and for the second time Lan Wangji falls in love.
pov lan wangji, canon compliant, canon divergence, pre-relationship, character study, light angst, soft, musician lan wangji, music

au where after wei wuxian dies, lan wangji's zhiyin is dead, and that there is nobody left that will understand his playing, so he smashes his qin and never plays again, referencing the story of boya and zhong ziqi
boya was a musician who played the qin. zhong ziqi was his zhiyin, his audience, the person who could understand whatever he wished to express through music. after zhong ziqi's death, boya smashes his beloved instrument and swore to never touch one again, as no one will understand his playing as his zhiyin did ever again.
now imagine if lan wangji did that. angst level 100.

Catching up on some of the things I've been tagged in. Some of these are very old. So sorry. I'm crap.
Fic author interview! I was tagged by the fantastic @lynne-monstr
No-pressure tagging: @pangzi @foxofninetales @merinnan @killerandhealerqueen @strandedchesspiece @thesilversun @silver-colour
How many works do you have on AO3?
266 as of now
2. What’s your total AO3 word count?
1,467,370 words however some of those words are on collaborative fics. I don't know how to filter out the ones I wrote by myself but it's well over the 1,000,000 mark and that makes me happy
3. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Unleashed  (MCU, Bucky Barnes/Steve Rogers) - 801 kudos
Visible to All But Me - (DMBJ, Wu Xie/Zhang Qiling) - 666 kudos (ehehe 😈)
The Truth About Cats, Dogs and Penguins - (Men's Hockey RPF. Evgeni Malkin/Sidney Crosby) - 621 kudos
In which Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes are surprisingly capable parents - (MCU, Bucky Barnes/Steve Rogers) - 530 kudos
Not The Russian Way- (The Man From UNCLE movie, Ilya Kuryakin/Napoleon Solo/Gaby Teller) - 516 kudos
I find it fascinating that a DMBJ fic is in my top 5. The other fics are all pretty old and in large and popular fandoms. I think it was just good timing in that I posted when a lot of people who have since moved on to other fandoms were into DMBJ off the back of Ultimate Note airing.
4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try! I think it's just polite to at least say thank you. Occasionally I do forget of miss one though.
5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?
I don't really do sad or angsty endings
6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?
Yeah, pretty much all of them.
7. Do you write crossovers?
Very rarely. I think all my crossovers have been co-written with other people.
8. Have you ever received hate on a fic?
Not hate exactly, but somone once accused me of plagiarism because I posted a fic with vaguely similar themes to one of theirs. Luckily for me this was back in the LJ days where there was a comm specifically for reviewing accusations of plagiarism where independent people would review both fics. Of course they ruled in my favour but it was really fucking upsetting at the time.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
I have, but I prefer not to.
10. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I am aware of.
11. Have you ever had a fic translated?
I have! Someone translated one of my MCU fics into Chinese which made me very happy.
12. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Yes, a bunch of times! It can be really fun if you get along well with the people you're writing with.
13. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
That's like asking me what my favourite fandom is. My favourite ship is whatever ship I am into at the time.
14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?
RIP my au for The Untamed where Lotus Pier was a hotel that famous musician Lan Wangji came to stay in while he was on tour.
15. What are your writing strengths?
Probably dialogue or soft domestic fluff
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
Description. A beta reader recently commented that in one of my fics I hadn't actually described what anyone looks like. I just want them to talk and kiss, okay?
17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?
Not full dialogue, no, but now that I've started writing in Chinese fandoms I think there are some words that can be used. Generally only terms of address, though. Like someone calling someone 'laoban'
18. What was the first fandom you wrote for?
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
19. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?
I do still kind of want to write some Mysterious Lotus Casebook fic. At least one at any rate.
20. What’s your favorite fic you’ve written
Juxtaposition (DMBJ, Wang Pangzi/Wu Xie/Zhang Qiling)
I don't generally write AUs, and I definitely have never written anything close to this long before. It took me a year to write it and I am very proud of it.

"Harmony Rings True"
MDZS Orchestra AU
I started writing this au last year, but never got very far with it due to having zero musical experience. Here's the segment I wrote, along with my notes, for anyone who might like the idea of this au.
Notes:
Orchestra:
Wei Wuxian = conductor
Lan Wangji = vocalist, guqin
Nie Huaisang = bass cellist
Wen Qing = violinist
Wen Ning = pianist
Lan Xichen = composer, vocalist, pianist
Lan Qiren = orchestra director
Non-orchestra:
Jiang Cheng = music critic
Nie Mingjue = retired cellist, injury related
Xue Yang = music critic, disgraced vocalist
Xiao Xingchen, Song Lan = retired musicians, xiao and vocalist. Retired, due to the actions of Xue Yang. (A scathing review ruined their careers.)
Fic:
There is no earthly reason that Wei Wuxian would be here: The Cloud Recesses Concert Hall. But they let him in the door without calling the police, so maybe miracles really do happen. He was hired as a last minute conductor when the last one was fired unceremoniously right before a big concert.
That doesn’t make it any less surreal to walk through those grand doors and stand in the lavish lobby like he belongs there. Every bit of decor is light and airy, and it makes his simple black outfit stand out like an ink stain.
But no one stops him. No one is there to scold him for believing he belonged there. The people passing by largely ignore him as they bustle silently in and out of nearby corridors, or work behind the front counter.
Self consciously, he fumbles for his phone to check the instructions he was given one more time. There’s a detailed note with directions to the orchestra director’s office, and he quickly scans it once again.
Then with one last awed glance around the vast atrium, he finds the correct corridor and walks as confidently as he can manage down it. The hall is dimmer than the lobby, with less windows and more softly lit lamps as it continues. Wei Wuxian takes the instructed turns down each one, feeling like he’s walking deeper and deeper down a branching cave system.
The director’s office door is identical to the two bordering it, and he almost walks past. But the plaque next to it says “Director: Lan Quiren”, so he steels himself with one last deep breath and knocks.
“Enter.”
Wei Wuxian opens the door and hardly makes eye contact before he’s bowing much deeper than needed in greeting. “Director, sir. I’m here for my interview.”
His satchel nearly slips from his shoulder and he readjusts it. Lan Qiren is perfectly dressed to blend into the overall aesthetic of the concert hall, with a neatly groomed mustache and goatee to top off his look. He is stone-faced as he says, “Sit down.”
So he sits across from his desk and sets his bag on the floor. Wei Wuxian resists the urge to wipe the nervous sweat he can feel appearing on his face.
The director shifts papers around on his desk, not looking up as he speaks. “The position is last-minute, I apologize.”
“No need to. I can easily pick up the program in a few weeks.” He smiles.
Lan Qiren frowns in response. “You will only have a week.”
Oh. “That’s fine!”
“Your resume states that you have over a decade of experience in conducting. Care to elaborate?”
“I was the conductor for my high school orchestra. And I studied music for four years in college, while conducting for their orchestra as well.” Wei Wuxian leaned back in his seat, his smile only growing.
The director was unmoved. “That is what it says on your resume. I want to know if you can truly put in the work it takes to memorize an entire concert program. You were the only conductor available, and in fact your resume indicates a gap in employment for one year. How do I know you will be qualified?”
Wei Wuxian sat up straight, projecting a mask of absolute professionalism. “I unfortunately was dealing with a family emergency during that gap in employment. My…grandmother was bed-bound and I was the only one able to take the time off to take care of her.”
Lan Qiren raised an eyebrow. “Is that so? Well I don’t see any other issues with your resume. The lead vocalist will help you memorize the program, he has been assisting with the production while we are missing a conductor.”
“Thank you, sir.” He suppressed a victorious grin down into something polite.
Lan Qiren pressed the intercom button on his desk. “Lan Wangji, to my office immediately.”
Wei Wuxian blinked, hiding his shock– surely he didn’t mean the famous Lan vocalist, the one who had just accepted several awards for his performances? But of course, this was the Cloud Recesses Concert Hall, his home venue. Why wouldn’t he be here?
The office door swung open behind him, and Wei Wuxian twisted to face it. The man who entered was undoubtedly the famous Lan Wangji. Though he was not as dressed up as he had been on the TV award shows, he was still excessively prim and proper. He wore a high collared white shirt, free from even the tiniest wrinkle. His pants were a pale blue, also pressed and creased to perfection.
Wei Wuxian had to crane back a bit to see his face, and was unsurprised to find it as blindingly pale as the rest of his appearance. The only respite from his colorless complexion was the slight blush of pink at his lips.
He realized he was staring at them when Lan Wangji subtly cleared his throat. His eyes snapped up to meet him, and he nearly shriveled at the disapproving laser-focused gaze.
Wei Wuxian forced his face into a presentable expression. “Hello!”
“The practice room is this way.” Then he left back down the hall, not giving Wei Wuxian a chance to even get up in time.
With a rushed goodbye to Lan Qiren, he scrambled to catch up.
If he thought the route to the director’s office was confusing, getting to the practice room was even worse. This time, there were stairs involved. Lan Wangji kept up a brisk pace that never wavered, even when climbing up flights of stairs.
By the time they reached the floor with the practice rooms, he was struggling not to pant. The nervous sweat had turned into an actual sweat. He silently cursed at the fact that Lan Wangji was entirely unaffected.
The soundproof practice rooms surrounded a central open space for musicians to practice together and discuss the programming. Several were already lounging there, stands with sheet music and open instrument cases scattered about.
Wei Wuxian waved. “Hello everyone! I’m Wei Wuxian, I’ll be your new conductor.” He hoped desperately that the sweat wasn’t visible.
He received a few polite greetings in return, but one musician seemed to recoil at his presence. “Oh no, not the new conductor! I thought we still had time to learn our parts! I’ve been practicing and I still sound awful, I’m so sorry you’re going to be so disappointed.”
“Whoa, slow down.” Wei Wuxian came over to him, looking at the sheet music over his shoulder. “What was your name? And what part are you having trouble with?”
“I’m Nie Huaisang, I play the bass cello. And it’s just–here let me show you.” He stood, retrieving his instrument. The bass cello was almost too tall for him, but he balanced it neatly against his shoulder and consulted the sheet music before laying his bow to the strings and beginning to play.
Every conversation in the room fell silent, the haunting melody taking over. The pitch was deep enough to vibrate in your lungs at close range, and it was clearly the foundation that other instruments in the orchestra would build upon. It was also exactly the same as the bit of sheet music Wei Wuxian had read over.
“That was perfect! Are you just struggling with memorization?” He asked, once more stepping to Nie Huaisang’s side to read the music.
“No, I swear it just doesn’t sound right!” He protested, letting his bow drop from the strings with a final somber note.
“Of course it doesn’t! You need the rest of the orchestra to complete it. The bass instruments are the valuable support that the rest of the music rests on.” He was gesturing emphatically as he spoke, half-slipping into actual conducting motions.
Nie Huaisang looked doubtful. “That is true. But I don’t think I’m doing my part as well anyway.”
Wei Wuxian clapped him on the shoulder. “Then keep practicing! What I heard was wonderful, you just need to add some confidence.”
“Ahem.” Lan Wangji had not moved an inch, and his blank expression had gained an annoyed wrinkle between his eyebrows.
“Shall we?” Wei Wuxian said, no longer feeling intimidated by the job he was taking on.
Lan Wangji answered with an affirmative hum, and led the way into an empty practice room. Well, not entirely empty. There were two chairs facing each other and a stack of sheet music on a stand, an empty one beside it.
The soundproofing instantly descended upon his ears, and he resisted the urge to click his tongue to hear the lack of an echo. With how quiet this famous vocalist was, he had no doubt the room would remain unbearably noiseless.
Lan Wangji took a seat, picking up the sheet music. Wei Wuxian took the other, shifting to find a comfortable way to lounge on its unyielding surface.
There was one long moment where the only sound was the shuffling of sheet music. Lan Wangji’s carefully tied back hair slipped over his shoulders and he leaned over the papers, finally breaking his perfectly styled appearance. Wei Wuxian smiled at the crack in his professional mask.
“So, what’s the theme of the program? Is it just a medley of classics or is there a specific tone?”
“It’s a collection of compositions written in memory of the souls lost in the Sunshot Campaign.” Lan Wangji looked up, plucking a few sheets from the stack and laying them on the stand. “The style is classical but the compositions are modern.”
Wei Wuxian looked it over. The sheet music was for the choir, which made sense since Lan Wangji was the lead vocalist. Wei Wuxian hummed the melody under his breath. “I see, so it’s a bit like a memorial concert. Very somber, like a funeral.” He gave Lan Wangji a knowing grin. “Which means you’re already on theme.”
He was returned a stony expression, completely void of humor. Tough crowd.
“Do you think you could demonstrate what you’ve practiced so far? I’ll know how to adjust the other’s parts if I have a place to start from.”
“No.”
“No?”
“I do not practice in front of others. My technique cannot afford distractions.”
That was odd. But he didn’t want to be rude. “Right. We should call in another musician then to demonstrate–”
“No. The director has assigned me to the task. It would be unproductive to take practice time away from a musician.”
“Then how do you expect me to get a feel for the programming?” Wei Wuxian couldn’t believe the inflexibility of this man.
“Read it. Then the orchestra will practice together this afternoon.” He moved to stand and leave the practice room.
“Wait! Don’t go, I won’t be able to get these compositions down without someone to bounce ideas off of. I’ll lose my mind trying to figure it all out on my own.”
Lan Wangji slowly sat back down. “Very well.”
Wei Wuxian stood up instead, tracing the lines of music on the stand with one finger as he nodded along to a beat inside his head. He really should ask for a metronome next time.
With his other hand he started to feel out the music. Every conductor has a unique style, and his involved wide sweeping motions with subtle flicks of his wrist.
He stopped and started several times, muttering “That’s not it.” and “Almost, but not quite.”
Once he had run through the first composition once this way, it had completely solidified in his memory. So with the image of the music firmly in his mind, he stepped away from the stand. He closed his eyes and let the room fall away, imagining the sound of a full orchestra. Both of his hands danced through the air, one foot tapping the beat.
A hum rose in his throat, a little off-key, but it was serviceable. The composition wasn’t exactly rousing, but it was meant to invoke a feeling of national pride, so it was more uplifting than an actual funeral march.
The final hummed note hung in the air and he opened his eyes once more. He found that Lan Wangji was staring at his right hand, which was curled around an imaginary baton. He smiled, “I forgot! I have it in my bag.”
Wei Wuxian crouched to sort through his satchel, producing his thin black conductor’s baton. A shiny red ribbon was tied to the base, and it fluttered as he gestured with it.
“Frivolous.” Lan Wangji commented.
He shrugged. “No one in any orchestra I’ve worked for has had an issue with it.”
Lan Wangji simply cast him another disapproving look. So he spun the baton between his fingers, the ribbon trailing jauntily after it.
“We don’t have practice with everyone else until later, right? It’s about lunchtime, why don’t we get a bite to eat?”
The vocalist stood. “There is a teahouse nearby where I usually take my lunch.”
“Perfect! It’s a date!” Wei Wuxian said with a wink.
Lan Wangji did not honor that with a response, sweeping from the room without a word.

@littletalimagpie this idea was lovely to write, thank you <3
Prompt: Street musicians are playing while wx are out after a night hunt and wwx asks lwj to dance? If he says no, wwx just starts dancing on his own and lwj watches with many sappy (and maybe indecent) thoughts
There are five musicians playing some foreign tune on the side of the street, filling the late morning with happy notes singing of home, hope and love. People pass them by, largely unreactive - some do smile, others leave a few coins in the little wooden box the musicians have placed in front of them, most just go on with their day.
There are two street children that dance along to the music, laughing loudly as they twirl around one another and move in all sorts of silly ways, mimicking performances they've probably seen filling the streets late at night. They're a bit raggedy and clothes hang off them where healthy weight should have been - but they appear to be having too much fun to care about such things, enjoying the music much to the delight of the performers.
"Hanguang-Jun," Wei Ying starts, handing the two jugs of wine he's just bought over to him, "I really like this song, will you dance with me?"
Lan Wangji hides the wine in one of his sleeves and shakes his head. "I am not a good dancer."
"You'll never get better unless you practice!" Wei Ying insists, pulling childishly at the ends of Lan Wangji's forehead ribbon.
"I would rather practice in private." A discreet kiss to Wei Ying's temple. "You can dance if you wish, I will watch you."
Wei Ying clicks his tongue. "You always like to watch me do things. Very voyeuristic of you, Hanguang-Jun."
"You are captivating to watch."
Wei Ying turns red at that and Lan Zhan fails to hide a teasing smile.
"Fine then. I'll go have fun by myself!" Wei Ying huffs, pretending to be offended. "Hey, kids, can I join the two of you? My husband's a fuddy-duddy that won't dance with me!"
Lan Zhan side eyes him a bit at that, but he knows he is yet to beat the fuddy-duddy allegations, so he says nothing.
"Come dance with us, young master!" one of the kids says, "The more the merrier!"
And so, Wei Wuxian picks each of the kids up in turn, twirling as he holds them, mimicking their silly movements and inventing his own, his laughter mingling with the little ones' and pulling the most loving, enraptured smiles from Lan Wangji. Of course, Wei Wuxian is too busy being carefree, happy, himself - to notice, and Lan Wangji is happy to take the moment in for his own safekeeping.
He's going to remember the flush in Wei Ying's cheeks, the way his hair swings with every moment, his glinting eyes and his melodious laughter, the way he's so kind to the two children. He's going to remember how Wei Ying couldn't care less about the people throwing him strange looks, he's going to remember the way Wei Ying is finally allowed to enjoy the world without bearing the weight of it.
He's going to remember how, despite his protests, Wei Ying pulled him in to dance too when the two kids chased each other away, deep into the convoluted streets of the village, a teasing, loving smile on his lips and a tempting whisper of "I missed feeling you against me."
He's going to remember how the musicians began playing a slower, more sensual tune, and how Wei Ying so easily molded his body against it, movements languid and deliberate, the silliness from before replaced with unwavering confidence and just the slightest bit too much of seduction for a public place.
He's going to remember the shape of Wei Ying against him, every dip and curve of the body that has now become his own much like his previous had been, the enticing contours Lan Wangji loves so much tentatively visible underneath his robes.
He's going to remember the way the musicians whistled when Wei Ying kissed him, hard and wanting, before he broke out in giggles as he undid Lan Wangji's forehead ribbon and ran off with it - ran off somewhere behind buildings and prying eyes.
He's going to remember it all.
(And so will the musicians, they never had their tip box so full before!)

Note
Okay but wait, if Lan Quiren and his brother are twins...who is to say that "Teacher Lan" is actually Lan Quiren? Maybe the cultivation world has a mysterious masked musician who travels and fights evil, while "Teacher Lan" raises LWJ and LXC, and no one ever sets eyes the old sect leader who is surely behaving himself in isolation like he's supposed to.
It was a chance comment overheard from another sect elder one day that gave Lan Xichen the idea.
He'd known, of course, that his shufu was his father's brother, but he hadn't realized they were twins. Twins for real, not the way everyone liked to say about Lan Xichen and Lan Wangji, who were nearly two years apart and only similar in appearance rather than identical. And if they were twins...
Lan Xichen got very excited by the idea. After all, just because his father was nominally inaccessible, locked away in his private seclusion and unable or unwilling to see his children, didn't mean that that had to be the reality of it, right? They could just - switch. Lan Xichen sometimes swapped with Lan Wangji back when they were still the same height (for that brief period after Lan Wangji’s early growth spurt ended and before Lan Xichen's belated one began); he couldn't imagine it would be harder for actual twins. And of course since it would be terribly against the rules, it wouldn't be something they'd tell people, not even family, not even Lan Xichen - not until he was old enough to prove that he could keep the secret.
He started observing his shufu, looking for the tiny little tells that would reveal that the reason his shufu sometimes seemed to act like a different person was because he was, in fact, a different person. Things like not remembering prior conversations they had, preparing his tea differently, a slightly different way of holding his brush or walking at subtly different cant - Lan Xichen loyally cataloged every one, wondering which one was his shufu and which one was his father.
Lan Wangji seemed not as enchanted by the idea, when Lan Xichen told him about it.
"He could have just forgotten," he said stubbornly. "It happens. And holding things differently or walking differently is just because he got hurt in a night hunt -"
"He didn't."
"He wouldn't tell us if he had," Lan Wangji pointed put.
"The tea, then. Shufu always does it the same way," Lan Xichen insisted. "He likes routine."
"Maybe he got a new type of tea and wanted to try it."
"Why are you so opposed to this?!"
"Why are you so for it?" Lan Wangji scowled. "We have shufu. Why do you want our father, too? Isn't shufu enough?"
Lan Xichen scowled back, unable to find any words to respond, and he stormed off.
He’d just ask shufu, he thought rebelliously. Next time shufu invited him on his own – he’d ask. Then they’d see.
