I hope yall watching the World Cup shenanigans on TikTok
Because it’s glorious.
Like it’s such a breath of CLEAN, FRESH air when you watch something through channels that aren’t completely defiled to hell and back by hypocritical and racist western media.
Just simply, watching the people have the time of their lives, exploring a new culture, trying to speak each other’s languages, learning each other’s dances, etc. just fills me with so much hope and joy.
I have to limit my use of the app so it doesn’t take over my life BUT THESE ARE JUST A FEW OF THE FUNNIEST AND LOVIELIEST THINGS I SAW:
JungKookie and the Kookies (BTS)
Foreigners discovering Arabian beauty up close? Like so many people are falling in love with the Qatari artist Fahad Al-Kubaisi
Saudian fan reactions going absolutely BONKERS, [2]
The #WhereIsMessiGuy. Some people find him annoying. Others find him hilarious. He keeps crashing news reports. You be the judge
Amazing mishmash of dances from different cultures after matches.
Fans trying to talk to each other and obviously not understanding anything the other is saying and resigning to signing is one of the funniest things I’ve seen this week
The guy casually telling his boss he won’t be in for work the next day on TV and the journalist losing it
Saudians and Japanese sword/katana fighting each other in the street
The Saudian and Japanese wins spurred a million memes of pure hilarity. Oh, and everyone wants a Saudia / Japan final showdown. Anime Style!
The fact that middle eastern fans are tagging the Japanese team ‘The Grandchildren of Captain Tsubasa’ sent me
The Sassy Prince becoming an internet celebrity overnight. I feel bad about this one tho. I hope the kid’s ok and keeps his privacy. Chinese fans are literally drawing fanart of him
Men being super invested in the traditional Qatari garb and headgear is super cool. So many reels of foreigners learning how to wear it properly and walking around with it through the city
THE LATIN AMERICAN FANS ARE ABSOLUTE DARLINGS
SO ARE THE ASIAN FANS.
AFRICAN, ASIAN and LATIN AMERICAN FANS ARE GETTING ALONG AMAZINGLY. SO GOOD TOGETHER IN SPITE OF THE LANGUAGE BARRIER!
THE BRAZILIANS ARE HAVING THE TIME OF THEIR LIVES. Oh, and they ‘kidnapped’ an Arabian reporter while celebrating. He was taken away on their shoulders, laughing his head off
Closeup of a player waving to his fans. Grown men becoming 5 again and waving back so joyfully <3
Roleplaying in the streets
The endearing videos of tourists walking around Doha at 2:00am, marveling at the safety and peace of the city. It’s true, Qatar is extremely safe even late at night
Egyptian memes living vicariously through Saudia coz we weren’t eligible this time
People taking videos of the public bathrooms and clean and LUXUROIUSLY DESIGNED they are. LISTEN THE BATHROOMS LOOKED LIKE A 7-STAR HOTEL BATHROOM WHAT
#IsraelLeftOnReadIRL tag. A lot of reports of people from various countries refusing to do interviews with Israeli news reporters just further proves that governments do not really mirror the true sentiment of the individual. Governments strive to maintain diplomatic relations, but I have so much respect for based individuals who don’t sell out on their personal morals
(I’m aware that because of how TikTok works geographically, a lotta people on the western side of the world may not be getting a lot of this stuff. If you’d like me to send some your way, just let me know and I can share through my TikTok.)

i went to japan and watched haikyuu!! the dumpster battle at imax! they had the main pairing standees, a hq (and jjk) gift shop and i got a complimentary nekoma postcard. i also bought 39sgd worth of hq and jjk merch. now i have a mini atsumu shrine and a geto to accompany my gojo and sukuna stuff
so glad i decided to reread the manga before watching. it helped me notice the new scenes they added.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
spoilers below
THE MOVIE WAS SO MUCH BETTER THAN I EXPECTED. it's the best out of the other hq movies in my humble opinion. and watching it in imax made it 100% times more surreal cause it felt like you were on the court.
I LOST MY MIND WHEN THEY ANIMATED THE SHOYO IN KENMA'S CAGE SCENE CAUSE THEY REALLY BROUGHT IT TO LIFE FROM THE MANGA. cried like 5 times, quietly lost my shit during the kuroo × tsukki/yams showdown, started vibrating in my seat when kenma said "this is fun" and shoyo screamed.
YOU GOT TO BE IN KENMA'S PERSPECTIVE WHEN HE PLAYS AHHHHH (and it was still his pov when the ball slipped from his sweat </3 ). my soul left my body at that part i cant believe it was better than in the manga. 5 years of waiting and reading the manga and i was not disappointed at all.
the little thing they added were: kuroo's pov of kenma meeting shoyo for the first time

Kaiju Week in Review (November 19-25)
Tumblr media
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters remains must-see kaiju TV with its third episode. The flashbacks revisit the U.S. attempt to kill Godzilla with an H-bomb in 1954, making a few retcons to the 2014 film that I think are largely for the better. This might be the Monsterverse Godzilla work that best understands it's adapting a Japanese story. There's also a delightful new critter who shows up at the end of the main story and will surely continue to be a threat in the next installment. On the human side of things, we're starting to see how Monarch became more and more obsessive about secrecy over the decades, paralleled with the infidelity at the heart of the story.
Tumblr media
Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong #2 delivers the Superman/Godzilla fight that's probably what people most wanted out of this crossover. I was surprised at how well Godzilla did, although it wasn't quite a clean victory. Camazotz's duel with the Bat-Family in Gotham City was more interesting, as bizarre as it is to see some of the most famous superheroes in the world taking on a Titan who's never even been in a movie before. Meanwhile, Scylla's in Central City and Behemoth's closing in on Themyscira. Odd choices considering Scylla's Greek name, but then I can't see her doing well against Wonder Woman.
youtube
As is New Generation Ultra Series tradition, Ultraman Blazar will be quickly followed by a movie (Tokyo Kaiju Showdown) released early next year (February 23). Most of these things are pretty forgettable, but director Kiyotaka Taguchi was also behind the Ultraman X movie, which I thought was one of the best ones. The plot:
A wave of kaiju emerges from an industrial zone, prompting Capitan Gento and the Special Kaiju Reaction Detachment (SKaRD) to engage in the relentless battle. Yet despite their efforts, the endless kaiju attack continues. Suspecting a link to Necromass Co., an advanced chemical company that researches kaiju corcasses and owns factories in the industrial zone, SKaRD rushes to the company’s CEO and renowned chemist, Dr. Mabuse. At Necromass Co.’s research facility, Dr. Mabuse explains the development of the damudoxin, a substance on the brink of achieving immortality. Meanwhile, Alien Damuno, who claims themselves as the “ruler of the universe” appears! Chaos ensues when damudoxin leaks from the destroyed tanks, consuming samples of kaiju carcasses and giving rise to the giant Gongilgan, the Demonic Carcass. Set in Tokyo, the capital of Japan, Ultraman Blazar and SKaRD clash in a showdown against the giant kaiju!
This year's Ultraman Decker movie was available to rent on Tsuburaya Imagination the same day it released in Japanese theaters, so I'd expect the same from the Blazar movie.
I'm typing this hours before I see Godzilla Minus One in IMAX. The date crept up on me, but I can feel every atom in my body vibrating right now, so yeah, almost time for the new Godzilla movie. High hopes with the reviews it's getting!

(in the best way) you'll be the death of me
Katsuki pinched the bridge of his nose. "Deku. You have compiled ten notebooks on me. You know my medical history better than my mother. And I have it on good authority that when you saw me in that stupid bee suit your face was so disturbingly perverted Mineta cried."
Or:
Izuku finds out there are still things about Kacchan he can learn and grows up in the process.
How Was Your Day?
"Hi Kacchan, how was your day at work?"
“YOU FUCKING PUNCHED ME THROUGH A BUILDING! THAT WAS MY DAY AT WORK!”
happy birthday, kacchan!
“The only thing that didn’t change was Deku.
Deku kept his unreachable dreams, kept the idea that he’d be a hero some day. Kept his notebooks, and his dumb All Might pencil case. Kept his hair the same and kept his stupid freckles and kept getting on Katsuki’s nerves no matter what Katsuki did to try and stop it.
And, every year on April Twentieth, Deku kept on bringing Katsuki gifts.
melodies of a heart unbroken
Gifts, wrapped crudely (though that slowly changed until they suddenly looked almost identical to Auntie Inko’s presents) with notes that would say ‘Happy birthday, Kacchan!’ in Deku’s ugly chicken scratch.”
***
aka a look at katsuki and izuku's relationship throughout the years, told through memories of birthdays.
Midoriya Izuku intends to get to the bottom of why he can't cry about love.
wrinkled oranges, pigeons, and other sweet things to call your significant other
Deku,” he says, suddenly serious. “I’m fucking bored.”
Izuku blinks. “Of me? It’s a bit late for a divorce now, I think.”
In the slow, boring routine of retired life, former Pro Heroes Izuku and Katsuki are growing restless.
Katsuki turns to Izuku, his lifelong lover and precious husband, and says, "I'm fucking bored."
Sure, they're way past seventy years old. But that's not going to stop Izuku from making the last years of their life as memorable as he can.
Saturday
“Hey there, you fucking nerd,” and only Katsuki Bakugou can say something like that and make it sound like a pick up line. “Whatcha got there?”
“Laundry,” Izuku says cooly. “What about you?”
Katsuki turns so Izuku can get a good look at him. Old sweatpants with a hole in the crotch. Loose fitting tank top that hasn’t seen an iron for centuries. His hands are wet, remnants of dish suds on his fingers like sparkling jewelry. “Dishes. They’re dirty. Gotta show em’ who’s boss.”
“Mmmm,” and Izuku is proud of himself for managing to moan like that without bursting into a fit of giggles. “Did I ever tell you how hot Domestic Kacchan is?”
[Or: There's something relaxing about doing housework when your job is to save the world]
Until We Meet Again
Change is the only constant in the world.
It is also the most terrifying ordeal a person has to endure.
With the War won and All For One vanquished, Izuku must prepare for the next chapter in his life: becoming a true Hero by following All Might's footsteps.
But dreams come with a price. Now, he prepares to leave everything he loves behind.
And loving Bakugou Katsuki the most makes it the hardest thing Izuku will ever do.
love meme, hate meme
It's time for the yearly Heroic Achievement Awards where well deserve pro heroes get to claim the honor and accolades that they accumulated in the previous year. This year the Best New Hero category is filled with powerhouses with big fandoms that is willing to do anything for their favorite to claim the honor of rookie of year.
But just as the stage is set for showdown of the century between the biggest named rookie in Japan, Deku and Ground Zero, and their respective fanclubs, one single social media post is about to upheaval everything.
Every Maiden Plays Pretend
“You have to promise not to tell anyone about Flame Heart Hero," says Midoriya. "Because the thing is… When I started drawing the manga, I based the main character off Kacchan.”
“Wh— Bakugo’s the heroine? Bakugo?”
For a second, Ochako thinks she’s entered an alternate universe. There’s no way shouty, stompy Bakugo belongs in a shoujo manga. He especially doesn’t fit as vulnerable, insecure Yurika-chan, who got captured by a villain in the first few chapters, failed her first Hero Class exercise and cried, lost at the Sports Festival and cried again, got kidnapped by villains in front of her whole class, didn’t get her provisional license, then got into a fight after-hours and cried some more…
“Holy shit,” breathes Ochako, “Bakugo’s the heroine.”
Public Displays of Affection
The freckled man hums and sinks lower, his eyes roving to the corner of the room like two huge green marbles rolling into the sides of a glass bowl and sticking there. He earns a sharp bang from the fist of his blonde companion hitting the counter like a gavel.
The dishes rattle with a startled clink, but the drunk man moping over them doesn’t even notice.
“What?!”
“Won’t drink with me,” complains freckles, leaning forward like a wilting sunflower on the end of a collapsing stalk. “Won’t let me look at anyone else, but won’t drink with me. Won’t even take a sip! The beer’s all warm and I can’t even count it as a secondhand kis—”
Across the counter, you choke on your own drink. The blonde does the same on his water - the only difference in poise is how quickly he smacks his freckled companion on the side of the head before he can finish his sentence.
A hero reaches out to touch the hearts of the people through their actions. Sometimes, they do it through heartbreak.
Bakugo and Midoriya as seen through your eyes - the eyes of a local firefighter - in an izakaya a few miles and hours away from tragedy.
Kiss Me?
Years after Katsuki left Izuku in the dust as a kid he's reminded of the gesture of affection that had his palms sweating and heart pounding when Izuku used to do it for him when they'd get scuffed up on the playground: kissing his band aids after patching him up.
Fast forward to the present and the dumb nerd is just going around offering up kisses to any old extra in their class except Katsuki and it's driving him insane. Despite him pushing these feelings within himself as deep as possible, it stings deeper than he could've ever imagined.
-
aka: izuku's love language is kisses

Chapter 104 thoughts
I'm back from posting purgatory and have rewritten, more or less, what Tumblr deleted, so now it's time for my favorite game: Ina Tries To Figure Out What The Fuck Happened In The Latest Noragami Chapter. Spoilers under the cut.
So at the beginning we see trash dad cut himself free from Fujisaki and revert to his original form, while Fujisaki wakes up in Yukine's old house, far from home. I'm really interested to see how much he knows, which I said last time--whether he was aware he was being used or if he's basically been unconscious for the past year. I think he has to be aware on some level, because he knows Father's true name and has to invoke it to summon him from Yomi, but it would also be funny if he flies into a panic, follows the newly created lake, and ends up with the main cast. How far are they from the house, anyway?
Come to think of it, I've been reading Alive since last month (Adachitoka's first manga, which was written by their mentor while they drew the art) and while I'm not done yet, the north of Japan features prominently as a setting for that story and as the final showdown for this one. I'm not sure why, maybe they're from there, but it's interesting.
I'm so glad Yato slammed into trash dad after he insulted Mizuchi. It shows he does recognize her as a victim, and is willing to let things mend between them, since she's had her own character arc since Yato released her name. Don't get me wrong, that was still the right choice for him at the time--but they've both changed since then. And I always love the character development in this manga so this had me bouncing in my seat.
YATO ALSO SAYING HE'S NOTHING BUT A DEAD PERSON LIKE YESSSSSS GET HIM GET HIM KILL HIS MISERABLE ASS
Ahem. I wish Yato had been able to land at least one punch on this horrible man, but it's time for a shounen powerup.
Using the koto no ha on himself grants trash dad access to Izanami/Izanagi level powers, which I think is a temporary powerup that will end with Izanami taking him back to Yomi, because of how he can "feel her breath" on his neck. He plans to then escape again, and possess another body.
This new power is an ass pull as fast-moon put it, but it's also not the first of its kind in Noragami. Think back to Yukine getting cut in half and becoming a hafuri, Amaterasu appearing out of nowhere to give Hiyori the hint that saved Yato's life in Yomi, and how the main characters were saved from the covenant which provided the entire basis for the current arc (due to unresolved tensions between them and the rest of heaven). Basically, in Noragami these things happen with good reason and/or hugely impact the rest of the story, so I think it's best to wait and see how this trash dad development plays out before making judgments on how it affects the writing quality.
There's an old Noragami theory that Father is Izanagi, or stole his power, and it's been mostly dismissed in recent years (but there's an echodrops post about it here if you're interested in the points it made) and even more so since we got snippets of his backstory, but I think it's worth bringing back up now. Izanagi has been suspiciously absent from the manga, and I'm not sure he's even been mentioned, so I wonder if the koto no ha ties into that somehow. Honestly if Izanami killed him in this version of the story and used his power to make the koto no ha, good for her.
Anyway, trash dad reveals he's not just some human who came back from the dead. He can use these powers of creation; it's unclear whether he's used them before, but Yato has never seen him do so--Mizuchi seems to know what he's doing, but it's also unclear whether she's seen it either. I said years ago I don't think it was easy as him just returning from the dead and being granted godlike powers, but I haven't been insistent on it so much because I did a reread of the official translation two years ago and that version heavily implies the only thing trash dad did to get his powers was come back from the dead. I wonder how they'll reconcile that when this volume gets translated (please hold for another 2 years, lmfao).
Is this Izanagi's power, or Izanami's? Did he steal Izanagi's powers next after he paid Izanami a visit? Did he know what using the koto no ha on himself would do? Was it an educated guess based on Izanami's power? Is it still possible he could be a reincarnated Izanagi that believed himself to be human? I don't know if I'd like that last one, but these are the questions I hope to have answered.
Taking a brief detour to discuss that Kiun and Mayu have joined forces to look for their gods, and Ookuninushi is alive but has with him three freshly reincarnated gods--Yatagarasu, Kagutsuchi, and Shinatsuhiko. I'm shocked he lived and they died, but it may lead to an interesting change in heaven where he has to reconcile how they threw away their shinki lives even after they were explicitly told not to use them. The way heaven (and most gods) treat their shinki as not people but disposable tools has been a long-running theme of this manga, and it's been clear larger-scale changes need to be made.
So back to the main event, trash dad creates a biblical sort of flood, but one that brings images of the past. Alongside the tree where a young Yato named Sakura, we also see a cottage and a multi-level house. The cottage may be where Yato and Hiiro were raised, or it might be the one from the Father flashbacks: Check them out side by side:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(103-2; page 1 [Father and Kaya village]; 104, page 21; 45, page 33 [Yato, Hiiro, Father cottage] if you want to check for yourself)
Next, there's that multi-story building, which could be the place where Yato made his first kills, or Hiyori's grandmother's house. There isn't much visible, so it's hard to tell, but here's another side by side:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(46, page 9 [where Yato made his first kills]; 104, page 21; 85, page 42 [Hiyori's grandmother's house])
If this enchanted world functions similarly to Hiyori viewing Yato's past while he's asleep, Hiyori will get to experience trash dad's past as it really happened. I've mentioned before it bothers me how the gravekeeper has been narrating the events even though he wasn't present for any of them, so it's entirely likely Father manipulated the facts of his history, or they naturally changed over the course of a thousand years.
I also think Hiyori could find out trash dad's weak point, his true name, if/when she witnesses his past. She could then become his lifeline and decide to let the secret die with her. Or he could possess her, but I'm being optimistic.
The tree she sees is the tree where Yato named Sakura, but it could also have some significance to Father and Kaya; if the cottage where he raised Yato and Hiiro was in the same general location as that village, he could have some memories there.
So if we get Hiyori and Sakura interaction I will cry. If we get Hiyori and Kaya interaction I will also cry.
Next few chapters I'm really excited to see where this enchanted lake dimension thing goes. Yukine could also be caught up in it, depending on how far it has spread, and it'll be interesting to see how Amaterasu reacts to it too.
I don't normally say this, but reblogs are appreciated. This post required a lot of skimming older chapters to tie my thoughts together, and my original draft got half erased when I was just finishing it up so I had to rewrite a lot of it. Plus it seems like everyone was pretty confused by the events of this chapter, so a reblog would help to spread it around and hopefully shed some light on the events. Thanks!

The BoBoBōBo - BōBoBo Theory
Tumblr media
Is pretty simple.
It's about the current chapters of the Takaba vs Kenjaku fight being titled after chapters of this manga from 2001.
Tumblr media
We even see this exact volume of BoBo in a panel inside Takaba's room. In other words, we have 3 chapters to go before this concludes so what would that look like on a calendar?
Tumblr media
In Europe and the US, the official release of the new chapters is on Sundays. Curiously, the current fights take place on the 24th of December, Christmas Eve. Let's remember that Gojo chose that date for his fight against Sukuna and Kenjaku because he didn't want to remember 2 dates for Geto's deaths.
The one month timeskip that happened after Gojo came out of the box could have been 1 week, 3 months or two years. Gege could've made up any reason to make that timeskip bigger or smaller or he could've chosen any other date for that fight like Megumi's birthday.
But he, Gege, definitely looked at the calendar and thought "wow, this fits perfectly, I'm an opportunistic genius". Because if we add Gege's one week break into the mix, then the 26th, the 3rd, the 10th and the 17th will be over when this Foolish Survivor mini arc ends.
And that brings us back to the Shinjuku Showdown on the 24th. A date that has no meaning to Sukuna and Uraume and while it is connected to Kenjaku, his story will be over with that mini arc for now, so who is left to appreciate this date?
Two idiots chilling at an airport maybe?
Tumblr media
Gege made it so that the in universe date and the date of the release (outside of Japan) match, so now he has the chance to do the funniest thing ever.
My prediction is that we get a flashforward of Yuji's fight (or just them fighting at a critical moment) with Gojo and Geto crammed at the end talking wistfully with each other.
Gojo is a little too okay with having died but Geto isn't and reminds him that he has stuff to do. As the last panel of the chapter, we see Shoko (and maybe Angel) approaching bisected Gojo. She is not pleased with what she sees and is ready to show us the readers for the first time(!) how her technique works, maybe even with a Domain Expansion.

Some Anime OPs That Deserve Some More Love: Part 2 of 4
As I noted in Part 1, this list is made up of anime OPs, new and old that I feel deserve a bit more love. Some of them have amazing animation and songs, some have fantastic songs that make up for a lack of animation, etc. But they all have something about them that stuck with me.
Witch Hunter Robin: Shell
youtube
Tsuritama: Tsurezure Monochrome
vimeo
Cannon Busters: Showdown
youtube
Carol & Tuesday: Kiss Me
youtube
Wolf’s Rain: Stray
youtube
With this selection, we have two anime that aired on Adult Swim, but never quite gained the same level of popularity as Cowboy Bebop (though, I do also have a newer Watanabe anime OP on here).
Witch Hunter Robin and Wolf’s Rain are both really character, mood, and atmosphere driven anime, and both of their OPs really capture that. Witch Hunter Robin also has that wonderful gothic feel to it, while Stray really captures the wild aspect of the characters being wolves. That wolves aspect and how it is incorporated into the OP will also always make it stand out to me.
Carol & Tuesday is the Watanabe series. It’s not as neatly written and paced as some of his other series, like Cowboy Bebop or Samurai Champloo, and some issues really aren’t handled all that well, but the music in the series is top-notch! The OP is beautiful and the discussion that the series has about AI music vs human made music is one that is becoming increasingly more real and prevalent every day.
Outside of that, I have the rather controversial pick of Cannon Busters, since many wouldn’t consider it an anime. But ever since I lived in Japan and had students telling me that Donald Duck was their favorite anime character, my definition of anime has gotten way looser than in the past. Plus, the song is just WAY too good to not include here.
Finally, Tsuritama’s OP. This one is so fun and charming. The sound of it really reminds me of and brings me back to artists like The Pillows or the opening theme for the old Nickelodeon show called “The Adventures of Pete and Pete.” That show was a bit odd but charming too. The series takes place in Enoshima, which I’ve been to before, so it’s an extra special series and OP for me. I think this one would be more popular / show up more in lists if not for copyright issues with Youtube.
Also, please look up “Tsuritama OMG” on Youtube, and pick the second video. You will not be disappointed.

Duelist's Digest: The Next Battle City?
Tumblr media
Kame Game Shop made a tweet about a new in-store tournament that will be happening on 12/23/2023. If Kame Game Shop sounds familiar to you, that's because it is the shop that the King of Games Mutou and the quarterfinalist of Battle City Wheeler work in as referenced on prior articles.
Kame Game Shop claims this tournament is meant to be small and local, but it seems KaibaCorp has other plans.
Tumblr media
Seto Kaiba has been invited to the venue, which means that there may very well be a showdown between the King of Games and the President of KaibaCorp. Many of the retweets and replies show great enthusiasm for the showdown, though some express regret that participation will be limited to those who have a Domino City registration.
People are wondering whether the mysterious god cards displayed in Battle City will be seen and if KaibaCorp will supply Duel Disks to local duelists that have not met the previous Battle City requirements to receive a free one.

Comment Section:
↳ UrDeckSucks: first ↳↳ Kuriwhat: How do you always do that? ↳↳ UrDeckSucks: just gotta go fast. ↳ ExodiaTheBaffledOne: Lol. I don't think the restriction is going to stop people from coming. I mean, that shop doesn't look like it can fit that many people. so all the dueling's probably gonna be outside. ↳↳ UnmagicalElf: How many duelists are registered in Domino City anyway? ↳↳ DMGBeloved: Don't know. ↳ AmuricanCowboy: Yee-haw! Gonna rustle up some cash and take a nice flight down to yonder. Watch people put up their dukes and do some duelin'. ↳↳ MillingYourDeck: You are the reason why people have this weird impression of Americans here. ↳↳ CardGamesSon: okay. i know the prospect of Yugi vs Kaiba is great and all. and seeing other influential duelists here will be a definite plus. but are you seriously going to fly to Japan close to the Christmas holiday just to watch them? Tickets must be at a premium. ↳↳ KaibaCorpFan: Why not? You don't normally see Kaiba make a public appearance unless it's some sort of unveiling or a tournament. Usually, it's Mokuba running the show. btw I'm flying over from Australia. ↳↳ CardGamesSon: sometimes I wonder if the thing that Kaiba fans have in common is that they have money to burn. ↳↳ BlueEyesBlondeDragon: lol ↳↳ BEWDWreckingYou: lol x 2 ↳↳ WorshiptheHolotech: lol x 3 ... ↳↳ DragonLord231: lol x 12 ↳↳ I'mYourDaddy: lol x 13 ↳↳ BlueEyesBlondeDragon: @/I'mYourDaddy YOU'RE NOT A KAIBA FAN. ↳↳ I'mYourDaddy: Ooof. Busted. Haha.

What are your predictions on which team will go against with which team in 3rd DRB? (while assuming we would get some new info during the first round of battle) ( ˊ̱˂˃ˋ̱ )
Jesus, idk. Let me see.
Based on how the last DRB was conducted, while every team is given a compelling reason to win in the drama tracks leading up to the DRB so that their victory will have a satisfying narrative payoff, it seems like one team may have a stronger narrative focus overall. We saw that last time with Fling Posse having higher stakes than the rest of the cast, with one of the characters' lives being threatened. (Naturally, while Ramuda living or dying didn't have anything to do with the DRB itself, dropping information that continually increased the tension in the several-year leadup prior to voting almost certainly influenced many fans to vote a certain way, especially those without prior strong feelings towards any particular team.) Similarly, the previous winning team in the second DRB (Matenrou) was given a less DRB-centric focus in their narrative, probably in an effort to reduce the chances of two successive MTR victories in a row and the backlash that would invariably cause from non-MTR fans. Neither Doppo nor Hifumi's character development had any sort of emotional tie to the DRB, and Jakurai's was loosely connected at best, with his emotional stake in the DRB being dependent on him giving it his best effort, not winning outright or even beating Hitoya.
So with that in mind, I assume FP will take more of a narrative back seat and will probably be paired up against a weaker-performing team to give that team's sales a beast, and that team will likely be BAT or DH. I say weaker-performing in terms of sales, which is largely dependent on these two being newer teams. I think DH generally sells better (overall, not necessarily in DRB results) than BAT by stint of Sasara's popularity, so I see FP vs BAT being the most likely. In terms of the in-series reasoning behind this, because there always needs to be some beef, I'm going to assume it has to do with Ramuda working for Chuuouku and his involvement in ruining Kuukou and Ichirou's friendship in TDD. But to be frank, everyone in 1gumi has at least a somewhat valid reason to have beef with Ramuda, so this isn't set in stone.
In terms of who will likely take narrative preference, I think MTC makes the most sense in terms of its strong sales in Japan (esp. because many of its fans are adult women with salaries, as opposed to the stronger teen demographics in other division fan groups) and lead-up to a high-stake plotline. With the hinting of a future Nemu and Samatoki showdown, Juuto's beef with many of the current and ex-Chuuouku leaders, and Riou's plans to break his major out of prison, they seem like the most currently plot heavy of the bunch outside of FP. So I think we'll likely get a strong focus on them and, to help ensure a chance at a victory, pair them up against a lesser-performing team. This could either be BAT or DH, as I mentioned above, but DH makes the most sense (and also frees up BAT for FP) as there's a natural source of tension between Sasara and Samatoki. Likewise, both BB and MTR are unlikely to be chosen due to already featuring in prior line-ups.
This leaves BB and MTR against one another, which I also see as a very likely option considering they were pitted against one another in the Grasshopper arc post-first DRB which came out before DH and BAT officially joined Hypmic. I have a suspicion that MTR vs BB was originally planned (note that, in this same arc, FP and MTC were pitted together, and this gives the justification for why Juuto and Riou are wanting to/willing to fight Gentarou and Dice) and quietly left on the cutting room floor when the last two teams were added. With this set-up already in place, there's nothing stopping the writing team from using it now. Also, with BB's high sales in the last DRB, this is another way to curtail another MTR victory, although I think this is less of a priority for KR than a repeat FP victory as it'd inspire less fan backlash.
This is all speculation, so don't quote me if it turns out to be horribly wrong.

Lee Kenny with the spot being feet?
Ah sorry I know it's been a while since you sent this in but I finally had an idea for it! Another anon sent in a request for SOT that someone could be thrown in makeshift stocks as punishment for screwing up the game after reclaiming the stick of truth from Clyde, and my brain just kinda created this mashup lol
So here's a teeny SOT drabble of Kenny getting what he deserves teehee I'm trying to work on my drabbles more and not have quite so many details in my writing without taking away from the atmosphere of the story if that makes ANY sense
also i finished this at 3 am if its crap spare me plz
Revenge On Princess Kenny! (Lee Princess Kenny/Ler Stan and Kyle)
WARNINGS: Kids swearing, feet tickles (with and without socks), and SPOILERS for the Stick of Truth game
The boys get Kenny back after what Kenny subjected them to at their final showdown!
``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
"MMPH!! Guhuhuymph! Wehehem cahahaham tahahahamlk ahahahaboumt thihihihimph!!" Princess Kenny's eyes screwed shut as she kicked her ankles in protest of what was currently being done to her. Elbows secured her ankles in place as fingers scribbled up her feet in an experienced way.
"No way dude, you totally traitored us. Just because you have a kickass backstory doesn't mean you can backstab your friends." Kyle angrily commented, and dug his fingers in Princess Kenny's toe spaces. Princess Kenny squealed as the sensation zipped up her thigh like a jolt of electricity.
"Yehehehemph ihihihihihimph dohohohomph!! Thahahamph mahahamph imph cohohohool!!" Princess Kenny giggled behind her hood as her legs tried to pull back from the tickles skittering up and down her feet. Stan and Kyle had her ankles in a tight headlock as her upper body was free to move. She couldn't do much to free herself with all her wriggling, however.
"Princess Kenny if you wanted to have a dark and angsty backstory you can hang out with the goth kids. You're either a cute pretty princess from Japan who controls unicorns, or you're a half-orc half-human who watched her people get wiped out before her very eyes. You can't have it both ways, God." Cartman, who was spectating from the couch, butted in. He was watching the scene with the New Kid sitting next to him; the New Kid watching with that usual blank stare.
"B-Buhuhumph I ahahahamph bohohohomph! Tehehe-hmhmhmph!" Princess Kenny was suddenly overwhelmed with giggles as Stan formed his hand into a big five-fingered claw and shook all five fingers in Kenny's foot at once.
"Yeah Kenny, just 'cause you have a dark backstory doesn't mean you can be an asshole and steal the stick for total power. Like, what kind of a dick move is that. You saw how literally NO ONE else moved for the stick when it was offered to them except for you, right?" Stan added while keeping up his claw technique. Kyle had Kenny's foot lodged in the crook of his elbow and his chest, making it easy for him to scribble his fingers back and forth to wherever he wanted to target.
"Ihihihihimph wahahahamph juhuhuhumph plahahahayimph myhyhyhy chahahaharachtermph! MhmhmHMHMHMPH!! MMM!!" Princess Kenny's dress ruffled as her struggling grew more erratic. Stan found a choice spot in the middle of the ball of her foot. He scritched a blunt nail down the line of it and tightened his grip on her ankle. Thankfully she was wearing shorts underneath that dress.
"Oh I see, so you're saying if you were to be offered the Stick of Truth again and kill all your friends in the pursuit of dominant universal power, you would do it again?" Kyle questioned, and started slipping off Kenny's white sock in preparation for his potential answer. Stan and Kyle halted their tickling for just a moment, and looked back at Princess Kenny for her response.
Princess Kenny had a hand over her beating chest as she caught her breath. She adjusted her golden wig and crown as she thought of her honest answer. Her bare toes flexed as Stan also stripped her of her sock. Would she be honest and tell the truth, or try and save her skin?
Cartman loudly slurped on a juice box in the background, filling the would-be tense moment with sucking noises.
"Mmm, yemph. Imph parmt omph my bamchphory thamph I plot againmph orcs amph humamphs, so I woulmph tamph themph stimph againmph for powermph amph fame. Amph boobiemphs." Princess Kenny muffled behind her hood. She seemed confident in her answer. She even crossed her arms over her chest.
Stan and Kyle exchanged glances with each other, their eyes lidded with knowing looks. One look at Stan's face adorned with his steel helmet and one look at Kyle's face donned with his thorn crown, and they immediately launched their fingers back into Princess Kenny's bare feet with renewed energy.
"N-MHMHMHMMHM!! MMM! MHMHMHMPH! GUHMHMHMPHS!!" Princess Kenny squealed and bucked as she kicked her feet back and forth to try and dislodge her attackers. Kyle and Stan kept tight holds on her ankles as they curled their sides into her and shook their fingers into her skin.
"Don't you remember how you traumatized King Douchebag, Princess Kenny? You, the fairest maiden of all the land, inflicting the most damage upon our most sacred warrior? Have you no shame? And you dare say you would do it all over again for fame, power, and... boobies? Well, to be fair, that does sound pretty sweet. But still, not cool dude!" Cartman scolded. The New Kid silently watched as Princess Kenny twisted all over the carpet as her friends scribbled their fingers into her defenseless feet.
"LOOK PRINCESS KENNY! LOOK HOW TRAUMATIZED HE IS! HE WILL NEVER FORGET FIGHTING NAZI ZOMBIE UNICORNS AND SWALLOWING YOUR PRINCESS NAZI ZOMBIE BARF!! HE'S JUST A BOY FOR GOD'S SAKE!!" Cartman reached over and squished the New Kid's face with both hands to accentuate his innocence. The New Kid sat there plainly without saying a word as his cheeks were squished.
Stan looked over to Cartman and saw him with his hands on the New Kid. "Cartman leave the New Kid alone. He's not traumatized, Jesus." Kyle shook his head at the scene and put his fingers between Kenny's toes to tickle between all his spaces. That got a big reaction from him.
"Jesus wasn't even a part of the battle because of how gritty it was! The action! The suspense! You'll never be completely over it, will you, New Kid?" The New Kid opened his mouth to speak, but Cartman put a finger over his mouth.
"Spare me your sugar-coated lies, my lamb! Do not cover for the Princess! She's aware of her actions and she said she would inflict them upon you once more for materialistic treasures! Have you no heart, Fair Maiden? Have you no heart..." Cartman covered his heart with his hand as he was now standing on the couch in his drama.
Stan and Kyle slowly stopped tickling Kenny and let him go eventually as they watched where Cartman was going with this. The New Kid craned his neck up to watch as well as Princess Kenny smoothed out her dress and retrieved her discarded socks.
"What are you going on about, fatass?" Kyle asked aloud. Cartman's eyes opened as if he just became aware of where he was. He dropped from the couch and picked up his juice box to slurp obnoxiously from it again.
"Oh, I dunno. I just got super bored and made up a gay poem out of nowhere. Anyway, you guys wanna see Asses of Fire 2? They just released it in the theatre." Cartman announced and threw his juice box behind him when he was finished.
"Oh pfft, like you have to ask? The hell are we doing here then? Come on, let's go see!" Kyle exclaimed. The four guys, New Guy included, started for the door. Kenny trailed behind them and threw her hands up.
"Omph, whamph themph fumph? Guymph, I don'mph hamph money to see imph!" Princess Kenny shouted behind her hood. The guys looked at each other while New Kid stayed silent.
"Uh, anyone paying for Kenny's ticket?" Stan asked.
"Uh no."
"Fuck no."
"Yeah me neither."
"...."
A moment of silence passed as Princess Kenny crossed her arms angrily. They all shrugged as they started for the door again.
"Sorry about that dude! Maybe don't traitor your friends if you're not even gonna be successful with the stick next time." Kyle shrugged as they all shut the door in Kenny's face.
"Fumph youmph guymphs, serioumphly."
Week 3 of writing workshop with @bettsfic & @books
Stories of a place:
The place I wrote about was Rokkō Island in Japan, and the surrounding area where I used to live.
I only used the common facts that anyone could find out.
1. The Rokkō Liner is an automated tram that transports people from the mainland to the manmade Rokkō Island.
2. Kobe was hit by a devastating earthquake in 1995.
3. Rokkō Island was made by taking the top off nearby mountains and compressing them to form new land in the ocean.
Tangled Up In Blue:
The tram snakes its way across a thin stretch of vibrant water, a thousand crystalline waves dance far below its metallic carapace. Inside, it carries precious cargo. The kind of cargo that thrums with the rush of blood and the spark of life, the kind that reads the morning paper and taps away at their cellphones. The tram is a noble beast, and it carries its task of transport out with no direction, no driver at its helm. It’s an entirely automated system, ferrying travellers from the densely packed mainland Sumiyoshi to the equally dense Rokkō Island. A commuter tram for many, as Rokkō Island houses few attractions and the heavy boom and bustle of harbours echo from its shores. This island is a freak of nature. It has been stitched together by the hands of mankind, mountains ripped from the earth and shoved into an orderly rectangular form. A picture perfect piece of the modern industrial world.
The tram, the Rokkō Liner, announces its destination to the passengers in singsong Japanese and again in a similarly musical yet somewhat mechanically clumsy English. Many, many foreigners, live and work on the island. Stacked into towerblocks and gated housing complexes, these expats make their livings in finance, shipping and translation. The early dawn illuminates a sea of suits, Japanese and foreign salarymen shuffling to work. Their faces are lined with stress and their company-issued tie clips shine in the newborn sunlight. One of them trips and falls, his briefcase letting loose a deluge of papers onto the pristine pavement below. He looks up at the sky, a tangle of telephone and electrical wires crisscrossing from granite apartment to granite apartment, and beyond that a vibrant cloudless blue. His suit is scuffed and he’s grazed his palm, but no one stops to help him up. So he’s left to shake himself off and pick himself up, as his spreadsheets and quarterly reports are pulled away by the soft morning breeze. He sighs and that too is snatched away by the wind. His boss isn’t gonna like this one bit.
His boss, the one who requested those quarterly reports to be on his desk by nine am at the latest, is sitting on the Liner reviewing a book his wife recommended to him, on Goodreads. He’s giving the thing, an American book called All The Pretty Horses, five stars. He’d sat down to read it one evening, with a glass of port in one hand and a cigarette in the other. After three refills of port and eleven more cigarettes he was done and, despite his insistence to the contrary, there were tears in his eyes. And tears freely flowed again when he conversed with his wife about the book over breakfast. Something about the book’s message of freedom and hope was inspiring, and made him hark back to the days of his youth. He was once a young revolutionary student who campaigned to end uniforms and for the school to stop getting funding from the nearby American airbase. He used to be a free spirit, used to wear a beret to school and sport Groucho Marx style glasses. Used to quote Karl Marx to teachers and Keats to fellow students. Used to organise film festivals, write in the local newspaper and mitigate street showdowns between young Yakuza members. And then he’d grown up. Life had caught up to him, forced him into a suit and pushed him through the sliding doors of a faceless office building. And he’d lost the joy in his life, crushed by timesheets and shipping mandates.
The review he was writing, on his wife’s account, was full of beautiful prose and cascading metaphors. He unleashed his creative streak, the one the grindstone of society had oppressed, and crafted an excellent essay-like review of McCarthy’s book. While writing this, his mind filled with such raw emotion, he let loose just one more tear. The teenager sitting across from him pretended not to notice him wipe it away with his shirtsleeve, which had been neatly ironed the day before by his wife.
The boss’s wife, an American-Japanese woman who’d grown up in Kobe, had first discovered Cormac McCarthy in a quaint little bookstore tucked away in the shadow of the Kobe Tower. The red light spilling from the tower reflected on the window display, dousing all its contents with an eerie blood-red glow. She’d taken shelter in there, as it was raining something awful and the karaoke bar she’d been at had closed early due to a leak in the roof. It was late at night, she was quite tipsy and in no mood for the noise and light of a train station, so she tapped on the window of this bookstore. It was closed, but light was spilling from a beaded curtain partitioning the shop from its backroom and her hurried and frantic tapping soon altered the owner. He was a man around her age, his eyes were ringed with the telltale dark circles of the sleepless. He wiped a stray eyelash away from his eye with one slender hand as the other fumbled for the door key. She wondered, somewhat drunkenly, if he was single.
He let her in, gave her a cup of green tea, and asked her, in excellent English, “What the hell are you doing dancing around in the street during a typhoon?”
She admitted to being a little drunk, and he gave her a blanket and a book, telling her to rest while he finished up his work for the night.
“Then what?” She enquired, but he clearly hadn’t heard her, as he’d slipped through the beaded curtain into the shop and was busying himself with the shelves.
Having no real other option, she took a sip of the piping hot tea and blearily glanced at the book.
The cover was well-loved, the spine supple and the edges fraying. Emblazoned on its front were the words: No Country For Old Men by Cormac McCarthy.
She took one more sip of tea, and began to read.
Eleven years and a long marriage later, she’d finally recommended the author to her husband. She knew he loved old Clint Eastwood films, and she knew something of his creative side, remembering him writing her elegant haikus when they’d just started dating. They’d been quite distant as of late, with her time mainly spent working from home and his in the office. She knew full well he didn’t do anything of substance, it was all delegation. His boss would tell him something, then he’d repeat it to his own employees, mimicking his boss’s angry demeanour best he could. The stress of his job had been making him snappish and standoffish, so she thought a literary diversion might be just what he needed. And she was right. He openly sobbed into his miso soup when they’d talked about the book at breakfast, the tears mixing with the broth and dissipating like rain into an ocean.
The ocean the tram was crossing was prone to violet outbursts. This was mainly due to the fact Japan sits in between four different tectonic plates, making it prone to earthquakes and tsunamis. One such earthquake had occurred in 1995 and had wreaked Kobe. Water had been forced out of the soil used to build Rokkō Island, causing pavements to crack open as water bubbled onto the surface. The rush of underground water brought with it geysers of sand that burst pavements, tearing down towering red construction cranes and shiny new bridges alike.
The bookseller remembers that earthquake well. His shop had been flooded by a burst sewage pipe, and his parent’s house had collapsed in on itself, a supernova of rubble and debris. He had wandered through the wreckage days after the quake, trying to find anything that remained. Quite a bit of the ground floor walls still remained, jaggedly and abruptly ending at around shoulder height, giving way to a sky still grey from debris dust. His parent’s fridge still stood, remarkably, dented as it was. A lone survivor of the now mostly-unrecognisable kitchen. He swung open its door to find a mush of foodstuffs, mulched up berries, squished meat, crushed pasta, eggshells, juice cartons spilling their contents onto the rubble-strewn cracked wooden floor below. A line of orange juice ran through a contour in the wood and pooled at his shoe. He glanced at his reflection in its vivid bring surface, a colour pop in this grey world, a world still shaking from the events of the past few days.
He looked just the same as he had on that rainy night in the bookstore, only now his hair was being eaten by wisps of silver and his shaded eyes were adorned by wire framed glasses, these two effects combining to make him seem scholarly and intellectual, though doing nothing to aid his never-ending quest for long term companionship. His parents, who had luckily been on holiday in Hokkaido when the quake had struck, had tried to set him with so many women in the past but nothing had ever stuck. He’d gone on a few dates with a girl in university but when her grandfather died she had to move back to Kanazawa. Their relationship slowly fizzled out after that, the fire of passion dying through increasingly rarer and briefer love letters and phone calls. Since then he hadn’t really had much luck with love, even going to a love hotel, just out of sheer desperation, only to find that sex was something he utterly didn’t understand, even when doing it. It was the human element that he fell for.
Take, for example, that woman he’d met when he was working late at the bookshop. Her tipsy little smile as she sipped her tea and opened No Country on her lap. Then the awe and raw excitement that flitted across her face as she read further and further. He had spoke a few more times to her that night, to refill her tea, to answer some basic questions about himself and to ask her where she lived so he could phone her a taxi. Her replies had all been witty and polite, and he’d etched them into his mind, despite her actual appearance fading into the obscurity of his memory, long since tarnished with taxes and neighbours and train times and the pressures of adulthood.
The teen on the tram didn’t want the pressures of adulthood. If adulthood made you cry on your morning commute, like she had seen that salaryman do just moments ago, she wanted no part of it. She was heading onto Rokkō Island to meet her girlfriend for early morning coffee. Her stomach was filled with a buzzing static that built and rose to her throat, making it hard to swallow. Not only had she called into school to tell them a family emergency had come up, which she had never done before, but she’d also slipped from her bedroom window and tiptoed to the train station in the waning night, which she’d also never done before. She was now sitting on the first train out to Rokkō Island, a doughnut in the shape of a lion in her hand. She bit into its adorable face, the soft sugary flesh splitting with the force of her teeth, spraying forth a tsunami of cream filling onto her hand. Another doughnut, this one a plump porcelain-like Hello Kitty face, with a jammy centre, sat in a paper bag on the seat next to her. It was for her girlfriend. The static in her stomach surged at the thought of that. She had a girlfriend. They’d met playing netball, it was a sweltering summers day and the tarmac had felt like lava when her palms had smacked down onto it after she had tripped trying to defend the net. After the ball had rushed through behind her, the girl that had scored, a very pretty girl with shoulder-length brown hair and sparkling eyes, had reached down and helped her up. She was so surprised that this girl, who was far better at sports and probably far more popular than she was, had helped her, instead of hugging a teammate or somesuch celebration. She was even more surprised when that girl cornered her by the changing rooms and gave her a tiny slip of Snoopy-branded notepaper. Etched on it in elegant gel pen was a set of digits. And a heart. They’d spoken over the phone a lot since then, and met for a few whirlwind dates when either school was competing. But now, now they were meeting up not in school hours, bunking to go to a boba & coffee place together. She felt so alive, like someone had lifted up her soul from her body and she was floating freely among the candyfloss clouds that hung in sparse bunches over the horizon. But there was a worry, a deep and suffocating one, that sat squarely in her chest and didn’t budge. It was the anger of doubt, of wondering if she was unnatural, of fearing her parents wouldn’t understand, of having to keep it all a secret. She finished the doughnut and wrung her hands together, her nails digging into her palms, making deep white marks that drowned out the static inside her.
“Miss, are you okay?”
It came from the salaryman. He’d put his phone down and was looking at her with deep concern through his thick-rimmed glasses.
“Yeah, yeah I’m alright.” She managed to stutter, her hands shooting apart and onto her lap.
“That doughnut for someone?” He, rather redundantly, pointed at the bag with the smiling Mr Doughnut mascot on it.
“Urm, yeah, it’s for a friend.” She said, mostly to the gum on the underside of the salaryman’s seat.
“Well I hope they enjoy it,” He smiled at her, a kindly tired smile, “do you read much poetry?”
The question hit her like a freight train. A salaryman asking a teenager about poetry? She was astonished.
“No, no I don’t really, sorry.” She spurted out.
He leaned forward on his knees and with an exclamation of ‘yoisho’ lifted himself out of his chair and motioned to see if he could sit down next to her. She nodded, like a frightened rabbit.
“Well you should,” he said, sitting down, “it can free one’s mind of all sorts of heavy burdens. Can I read you a haiku?”
She was strangely at ease with this stranger, and so mumbled, “Yes, you may”.
He cleaned his throat and read, from memory;
“Even with insects-
Some can sing
Some can’t
It’s an Issa poem,” he said to her, “ and I think it relates to you somewhat. You seem different to others your age. And that’s fine, I was different once. I was a communist! Or I thought I was at least. And look at me now, huh? Another cog in the machine.”
The machine of the tram ground slowly to a halt and the lilting voice of the automated announcer proclaimed they’d reached Rokkō Island. The few passengers flooded out from the train and made their way out of the station. Passengers going from Rokkō to the mainland queued in orderly lines at the side of the tram doors, waiting for everyone to exit before stepping on. It was an intricate and well-executed dance of etiquette and unspoken rules. The salaryman picked up his briefcase, loosened his tie a bit, and walked off towards the shining sliding doors of his office building. The teen half-walked, half-tripped her way to the coffee shop, her brain was alight with hope and happiness, and all the static washed away on the wind.
The wind had carried the man’s papers far far away and so now he sat in his puffy, uncomfortable swivel chair, awaiting his boss’s arrival with a glum look on his face. His cubicle neighbour and best friend, a man with dyed blonde hair and perfect teeth, was consoling him.
“At least he’ll give you saké, he does that with everyone he fires right?” The guy grinned, leaning over the cubicles.
“I’d rather keep my job than have a bottle of saké, if I’m honest.” His mate glumly replied.
“Well bossman isn’t even here yet, maybe he’s been chopped up by the Yakuza, or run over by a car or-“
And in walked their boss, his tie loose around his neck and an odd spring in his step. He smiled, yes, smiled at them as he passed. When the door of his office was shut, the two men looked at eachother, then looked around at the puzzled looks on the faces of every employee in the room.
“What the hell just happened?”
“I think you’re not getting fired. Or maybe we all are.”
Music began to drift from behind the boss’s door. American music. Rather old.
Asheiji: Post-canon
Growing Pains by Exiledfromazerath1316
(23,426 words | Mature | Completed)
"If I've got no one to fight than how do I know who I am?!"
Moving to Japan with Eiji is a start, but there is no cure all for something like this.
Growing pains will never be easy.
Odour of Chrysanthemums by nyanja14
(20,915 words | Teen And Up Audiences | Completed)
Two years Eiji was gone with barely a word sent back home to his mother. Two years of her son’s life that Hiroko will never know.
Hiroko is angry at Ibe for failing so spectacularly at keeping her son safe. She’s angry at Eiji for not coming home at the first opportunity. But her true fury has nowhere to go.
Ash Lynx is already dead.
(except he's not really because this is my fic, and I say Ash lived; welcome to my post-series "Eiji's Mom Meets Ash" fic)
Measure In Love by goldendraeconis, Snow_Falls
(33,509 words | Explicit | Completed)
"If he really never did see Ash again, at least Eiji had the comfort of knowing he was free. Finally, finally, Ash was somewhere no one could touch him, even as that was what Eiji longed to do. He felt like he could die from how badly he wanted to hold Ash again, just one more time. But, it wasn’t fair to want something so selfish. Ash was his own person, and he deserved to live for himself, wherever and however that may be."
After the showdown in New York, Ash goes missing. Eiji returns to Japan alone, heartbroken and unsure what to do now. After one year of radio silence from Ash, the two meet again, getting closer over the course of a year, and fulfill the promise of forever.
Find My Way Back (To You) by mara_cas
(23,263 words | Not Rated | Completed)
What if Eiji hadn’t been hurt that badly by the two Chinese men sent by Yut-Lung? What if he was out of the hospital the next day, with nothing but a scratch, well decided to retrieve Ash? Banana Fish is history, Dino Golzine is dead, but it seems like Ash Lynx still can’t rest. Lee Yut-Lung has a favor to ask him, one Ash and Eiji can’t refuse. As they join forces to unravel a new menace, Eiji has to put his life in danger and Ash must learn to step back. This new adventure could be the opportunity for them to learn more about each other, and to have some very needed talk.
Fool For Lesser Things by Snow_Falls
(29,736 words | Explicit | Completed)
"He knew irrefutably that if Eiji left he would take something fundamental to Ash with him, and without that, what would be the point in living? He might as well have let Foxx finish him, if he was going to cop out now. No, Sing was right, the little brat, what the fuck would be the point if he didn’t go with Eiji? God, he was an idiot."
Or the fix it fic we all need. The alternate ending I cherish in my heart of hearts.
The Way It Should Be by Snow_Falls
(8275 words | Teen And Up Audiences | Completed)
“You know we can’t technically be married here, but a lot of same – sex couples do this instead. They add the younger partner to the older one’s family registry, they become next of kin, and it gives them a lot of the same rights as a spouse,” Eiji hadn’t been able to hold Ash’s gaze the whole time he spoke, he was looking down at the bedspread now, tracing lines on it with his finger.
Ash looked up at him. “Are you asking me to marry you?”
The question hit Eiji with a stronger force than he would have expected. He felt it in his stomach, in a hot shiver up his spine, and blood rushing to his cheeks. He was suddenly incredibly nervous, because – “Yes, I am.” Eiji took a breath and tried not to feel the sudden way his hands shook with adrenaline, sheer anticipation. “Will you marry me?”
Breaking The Habit by EmirAttemptsToWrite
(17,582 words | General Audiences | Completed)
Ash had no idea where he was.
He felt a dull pain in his side. His entire body was aching, but his mind couldn't register what was going on. It was dark everywhere he looked - was he asleep? Or about to wake? Or was the place he was in just pitch black on its own?
He thought he could hear a faint beeping noise - but it was echoing somewhere in the distance.
Or, my take on the Banana Fish ending that follows Ash on the journey of accepting love.
This Quiet Life by elena_stidham
(15,820 words | Teen And Up Audiences | Completed)
Ash's life can be divided by the sounds each location makes. Cape Cod was a world that only sounded like the wind and sea. New York is a world full of noise.
Japan only sounds like Eiji.
dull swords, sluggish arrows by ADreamingSongbird
(10,605 words | Teen And Up Audiences | Completed)
An unexpected visitor shows up on Eiji's doorstep, seeking answers about Ash's death.
Except that Ash isn't dead, and there is very little Eiji wouldn't do to keep him safe. Even if that does mean yelling at a very tall Russian man in public.
Ash only allows himself the smallest scraps of comfort from Eiji. Eiji surprises him by giving him just a little more than he expected.
Skipping Stones by TurnUps
(54,304 words | Teen And Up Audiences | Completed)
A collection of oneshots filling in some scenes that probably didn't happen in between episodes/scenes, but that I like to think did because these boys need to talk to each other.
“Didn’t think you had it in you.” Eiji had been expecting to drive in silence. Or maybe he had just hoped they would drive in silence. Ash’s voice made it all too real. A large part of him had wanted to concentrate on what gear to shift to and when the lights would change. That would distract him from the feel of his heart trying to escape from his ribcage and his hands shaking on the steering wheel. “I didn’t think I had it in me either,” Eiji said. His voice shook and he tried to give a shaky laugh to cover it up. Ash was looking at him. He could tell. Those eyes pierced into the side of his head. He swallowed, trying to think of something – anything – to say. The whole city seemed like a big grey blur. He drove where Ash said, but he couldn’t separate roads.
Hangin' Tough by TurnUps
(48,533 words | Mature | Completed)
A series of oneshots set in the 80s during that one Summer where Eiji is telling Ash he's going to go home soon and yet not leaving. (Episode 11-12) Also mostly set at 3 a.m, so late nights and early mornings. (Slow dancing in the kitchen in socks at 3 a.m) *** A loud noise woke Ash. He immediately thought ‘gunshot’. Eiji. Someone had shot Eiji. Then his mind recognised the sound as a crash. Intruder. Someone had broken in. He swung out of bed, pulling his gun out from under his pillow, pulling the door to the rest of the apartment open - To find Eiji standing in the kitchen, staring back at him wide-eyed. He had turned on the light over the hob and it bathed him in yellow light. Ash's Walkman was skewed over messy hair and an 'I love New York T-shirt' covered him like a tent. Ash's stomach flipped, despite the fact that he was aiming a gun at this boy. Adorable, really, he looked adorable. But that was something wouldn't appreciate hearing.
the half life of what we become by amaiyo
(14,055 words | Teen And Up Audiences | Completed)
Ash just wanted Eiji Okumura’s attention.
He couldn’t justify it, couldn’t unravel the logic of why he always craved the older boy’s dark eyes on him. Ash had spent most of his life being the centre of the show; the disgusting old men in Golzine’s club, the patchwork of gang members who followed his every move like he was a messiah. Even simple passerby seemed to watch him like they were cataloging something glamorous, something other worldly.
He always hated the attention he drew, and yet—he would do anything for Eiji to look at him, to focus on him, to stay with him just a little bit longer.
[Ash's need and Eiji's unconditional love, in four snapshots.]
knight in shining armor by aalphard
(2,293 words | Teen And Up Audiences | Completed)
“Come on, Eiji,” he whispers. “Let go of me now.”
“Dangerous,” is what he says back.
For a few seconds, Ash tenses up. Every fiber in his being is screaming at him, urging him to run, run away, hide, take Eiji with you and hide, hide, hide, as his eyes desperately scan the room searching for something that could be used as a weapon against whoever it is that’s hiding here. But when Eiji sighs, nuzzling him again, his muscles start to relax on their own, although Ash is still very much concerned about potential danger now. When Eiji starts to babble about the princess dragon in the tower and something about the sword of swords, Ash almost screams.
So that is why he was mumbling about danger. He’s dreaming.
Angry, Drunk And Sad by Anonymous_Cupcake
(2,144 words | Teen And Up Audiences | Completed)
Eiji gets drunk and reveals feelings he's kept bottled up. ---- "Well, you know what?!" He screams, the others flinching at the sudden change in voice and tone. He continues his drunken ramble, because like it or not, people are listening . "Eiji CAN be in a bad mood. And right now... Eiji in a bad mood."
The tears return as the truth finally makes it out. His mind finally recognizes the danger of being this vulnerable. They're gonna tell Ash, they're gonna make him go home, he doesn't want to go home—
"What the hell is going on here?"
Ah, speak of the devil and he will appear.
you make the winter feel warmer by ADreamingSongbird
"Let's take a walk," Eiji said, already pulling on his coat. He didn't need to use those big soft eyes to convince Ash, but he did anyway, turning to look at him with hope shining in his face. "I want to see the lights for Christmas! Please, Ash?"
And who is Ash to tell him no, some kind of monster?
Little Pieces by Wings_and_Feet
Not everything that happens makes it to the retelling. And some secrets are best kept for everyone's safety.
Which is why after everything that happened, Ash and Eiji never mentioned running into Shorter's old girlfriend in LA. Not when Shorter died. Certainly not when she shows up back in New York carrying a little piece of their lost friend.
What started as a need to save the child of the friend he couldn't save becomes a story of endings and new beginnings and maybe, finally, the family that Ash deserves.
He can't do this. Oh God.
I'm Ready by Wings_and_Feet
Eiji told Ash "When you're ready or not at all." And he meant it.
That doesn't mean waiting is easy.
Told from Eiji's point of view, this takes place six or so months later. When Ash is finally ready to try again. Sex on his own terms.
"But even amid the haze of relaxation and warmth, one thought comes through with uncomfortable clarity.  How much longer is Eiji going to keep this up?  How much longer will he treat Ash with affection and kindness before his patience finally runs out and his touch turns cruel and demanding?  Ash knows violence, so intimately that he can rarely be bothered to mourn for his own suffering anymore.  But when it’s Eiji, when he imagines Eiji’s hands as the ones bruising him, something deep within him cries out in protest.  It’s only a matter of time before the inevitable--Ash knows this--but he wishes it weren’t.  He wishes he could live in this bliss, this gentleness, forever.  He wishes that, just this once, there could be a different ending to this story.
But there never is.  Ash would stake his life on it."
