GGY week day 6: Everybody lives/nobody dies
so this is a pretty specific au that needs some backstory. basically i have this theory that dr rabbit hasn’t just not shown up yet but is actually dead. since vanny killed glitchtrap at the end of hw2, i have this theory i’ve posted about before that vanny killed dr rabbit pre-sb and that’s how gregory got freed
so in this case that didn’t happen, PLUS rab is a good guy. gregory is a bit on edge about rab being there at first, but eventually after rab doesn’t kill people and is away from vanny and mimic and 3 star fam is actually kinda pleasant (not that he’d say that) he’s like wait a minute.
and instead of being ‘dormant’ and not 3 star fams enemy he kinda just becomes apart of the family. no ulterior motives no nothing he just is on their side for real now and prefers them. along the way he’s able to be a real kid and play gregory’s video games and draw and he likes it a lot. so he just starts to realize hey i don’t like to kill people and want to be normal. gregory can we go to walmart and buy shopkin blind box? i think my favorite ice cream flavor is mint chocolate chip.
meanwhile gregory having someone that hijacked his body and ruined his life still in there when he’s supposed to be free is very anxiety inducing. i think he’d hate rab taking over without permission (which he did a lot at first) and it’d scare him and cause him to be on edge a lot. eventually rab starts to actually care and respects gregory’s boundaries and figures out that being nice is pretty cool. it’s also easier for both of them. and eventually after things blow over a bit i think gregory would work on a temporary robot form for rab to roam around on his own (like a cheap animatronic robot. like those little dogs) and he’d get some peace.
but i think rab is always going to share gregory’s head with him since he wouldn’t have his own hands to draw and play video games so. i think that becomes easier for both of them and feels less intrusive.they bond a lot

Some Undertale gamer headcanons:
Someone said that Toriel would be the world Tetris champion, and I'm not sure why, but I agree with that. And not just Tetris, but bubble-poppers, match 3, marble-shooters, all of those kinds of games. She's the new Candy Crush mascot.
I've also seen people say sans would be into rhythm games, and... no. Why would you think he would be into something that takes that much effort? Seriously, come on. What sans is into is farming sim games. He's written dozens of online strategy guides for Stardew Valley, all of them under different pseudonyms.
Papyrus is into online multiplayers. All of them, any genre- Fortnite, Apex Legends, Fall Guys, Elder Scrolls Online, Runescape, you name it. He sucks at all of them, but none of his online friends is willing to tell him how bad he is because he's so darned innocent and nice. Nobody really wants him on their team because he'll always make them fail the mission, but he's so upbeat and uplifting that no one has the heart to tell him they don't want him.
Undyne loves Souls-like and dungeon crawlers, but she struggles with anything that requires stealth, she just doesn't. do. stealth. She says it's stupid to have to sneak up on enemies, she should just be able to barge in with guns or swords or spears blazing in any and all circumstances. Don't ever even suggest Metal Gear to her. Or Breath of the Wild- she rage-quit after the Yiga Clan Hideout quest (although it did leave her with the impression that bananas give you strength in battle, so she now always keeps a bunch of bananas on hand).
Blooky plays solitaire and Mah Jongg, and even those stress them out.
Maddie plays casino and slots games. On an unrelated note, she's always broke.
Mettaton is the rhythm games master. You will not change my mind on this.
Alphys is HEAVY into JRPG's. The more anime it looks, the more she loves it.
Asgore has no idea what a video game is. Well, ok, he has some idea, his kids both played games, but he never could figure them out. He thinks Sonic and Crash are both Mario characters and that Link is a girl- you get the idea. But he did used to play card and board games with Toriel. Especially chess (she totally owned his ass in every match). Ever since Toriel left, he can't bring himself to play chess. He plays checkers a lot, tho. He usually loses (he plays against himself).
Asriel and Chara were into action/adventure games. Asriel's favorite characters were Yoshi and Link, while Chara's favorites were Samus and Shadow the Hedgehog. What? No, I'm not projecting my favorite games onto the Dreemurr kids. What are you talking about?
Frisk has only ever played the hit indie game Undertale. About 500 times. Always Pacifist, they've never even tried a Geno run. They've been thinking about playing that Deltarune game, too, but they kinda wanna wait until the whole thing is released.

Pairing - Idia Shroud x Reader
Synopsis - When Idia gets kidnapped by a ghost princess, it's up to you to save him. There's only one problem: you hate him with every fiber of your being.
Genre - non-canon compliant, I don't remember how the story went so I'm making it up, enemies to lovers
Notes - I love to hate Idia. Easily my least favorite character in TWST, but our love-hate relationship makes enemies to lovers so much sweeter.
Explanation for those who haven't played Stardew Valley: In STV, you can romance some of the characters. Once you get to 8 hearts with them, you can ask them to be your partner by giving them a bouquet. 10 is the max heart level unless you get married. Keep this info in mind as Idia Shroud is dweeb.
"Ugh, this is such NPC stuff."
Idia banged his head against the vending machine repeatedly, hoping it would help free his newly bought can of Monster that was stuck against the glass. He shook the machine a few more times to try and wiggle the can free but it wouldn't budge. He leaned his head against the glass and groaned.
"I gave you my three dollars! This isn't fair," he muttered, thoroughly agitated. Just as he was about to give up and head back to the dorm, a shoe slammed right next to his head. Idia shrieked as the can fell to the bottom. He shielded his face from the attacker, only being able to distinguish that someone has reached down and taken the can from the slot.
"Monster this late at night, Shroud?"
Idia tried not to groan as he heard the all-too-familiar voice. When he uncovered his face, you were standing in front on him, tossing the can in the air and catching it with a smirk. Idia scowled and tried to grab at the can.
"Give it. You're gonna make it explode," he said through gritted teeth. When he finally managed to snatch the can away from you, he held it close to his chest like a precious treasure. You just laughed and raised an eyebrow.
"No need to get defensive. I just asked a question," you tried to fight a grin as Idia's hair flared up in annoyance.
"No, you were mocking me."
"With good reason, weaboo. It's almost 11 pm and you're still playing video games, aren't you? I'm gonna take a wild guess and say online multiplayer. Am I right?"
He didn't have to say anything for you to know you hit the nail on the head. The begrudging blush on his cheeks gave more than enough away.
"Well, what are you doing out here anyway, huh, normie?" he sputtered, trying to regain his confidence you so easily stole. "I at least have a good reason for being up this late."
"First of all, nobody in the whole world except you would call League a good reason to be up late," you put quotes on "good reason". "And second, I'm taking a, uh, late night stroll. Helps me sleep."
Idia let out a laugh and leaned against the vending machine.
"That's the lamest excuse I've ever heard," he scrutinized, making you huff in anger. "What do you have to hide?"
You mumbled something under your breath that Idia had to strain to hear.
"Come again?"
"I was getting a Monster too!" you yelled, frustrated with Idia and with your own bad habits. You interrupted him before his own smug grin could spread too far. "But I was studying! We are not the same, Shroud!"
"No, absolutely not," Idia shook his head patronizingly. You glared at him though it did little to invoke the anxiety he was usually such a slave to. "No one would ever dare suggest that your sleep schedule is just as cracked as mine."
"Whatever. This was stupid," you muttered, turning away from Idia and the vending machine. You waved your hand dismissively over your shoulder as you walked away. "I'm just going to forget I saw you."
"I don't even get a goodnight?"
"Go cry to your body pillows about it."
You heard him scoff from behind you but you kept walking no matter how badly you wanted to turn around.
"My prince!"
That got your attention. You whirled around and were met with quite a strange sight.
A blue ghostly apparition had her arms wrapped firmly around Idia's neck. His expression was panicked and when he caught your eye, he barely had time to choke out a strangled "help" before the ghost disappeared with him in tow.
You ran to where Idia had just been and spun around, looking for any traces of him or the ghost.
"What the Seven?"
...
*Phantom Bride hijinks ensue*
...
"Absolutely not!"
You flung up your hands in protest of the idea Crowley has suggested.
"Y/N, we are the only remaining students without an overwhelming commitment," Riddle sighed, having predicted that you wouldn't like the idea of dressing up and rescuing your sworn enemy. "It is our duty to save our fellow classmates."
"Nuh-uh, no way!" you huffed in annoyance and turned to Ace with your hands on your hips. "You don't like this either, right?"
"No, I don't but what choice do we have?" Ace shrugged, already won over by Crowley's promises. "The rest of us are going but if you want to miss out on all the fame and glory, be my guest."
"Fame and glory, henchman!" Grim repeated excitedly. He was practically bouncing up and down at the idea of being on television. Before you could respond, Crowley leaned over to whisper in your ear so no one else could hear.
"If you don't, I'm cutting your allowance."
You scoffed in offense at his threat.
"Hey, I need that! Grim eats for a family of 6 all by himself!" you protested. Crowley just clapped his hands together and smiled "generously".
"Then you'd better hop into that suit, eh, prefect?"
You grumbled complaints all the way to the dressing room.
"There had be some high stakes compensation for this," you thought to yourself as you buttoned your suit jacket.
...
"I object!"
All heads snapped to you as you kicked open the cafeteria doors with Ace and Grim in tow. The courtiers advanced on you but with Ace's bouquet and Grim's fire, the pair made quick work of them.
While they were fighting, you scanned the room to assess the situation as best you could on such short notice. You saw the previous "suitors" frozen still in the corner, most of whom wore a permanent scowl. You saw a frighteningly beautiful phantom in a white dress, her cheeks puffed up with annoyance, and next to her was...
"Seven, have mercy..."
The words left your mouth before you could think. Though, at that moment, you weren't thinking of much beyond the sight in front of you.
You had never seen Idia's hair pulled back like that. In fact, you'd never seen him in anything except his signature puffy coat, but you had to admit he cleaned up really nicely. Black wasn't the most traditional of wedding colors but the gloomy detailing suited him. Of course, he would've looked a lot better if he weren't shaking in his polished dress shoes.
"How dare you interrupt my wedding?!" the phantom yelled, stamping her foot. The courtiers stopped fighting to let her speak. "This is my special day! I want to marry my prince charming!"
"And you will!" you assured, holding your hands out to show you meant no harm. The phantom raised an eyebrow, giving you permission to speak. "If you would, Miss..."
"Eliza," she finished.
"Miss Eliza. I understand that these foolish suitors have all been vying to steal you away from your beloved," you shot a pointed glare at the failed attempts, most of whom rolled their eyes at your theatrics. "But all I ask is that you hear me out."
Eliza looked at you skeptically before nodding slightly.
"Thank you, princess," you bowed your head in reverence and took a deep breath, trying to keep a calm composure as you mentally scrambled for a good argument. "You don't want to marry this man."
"And I suppose you want to marry me instead?"
"Though it would be an honor, that is not my suggestion." For once, all the princess movies you watched as a kid were coming in handy. "I simply mean to imply that this," you gestured to Idia. "is not your prince. He's a selfish, entitled, insensitive a$$hole with a gaming addiction."
Idia gasped in offense at every insult. The disbelief on his face nearly made you break character but you continued improvising. Ace had covered his mouth with his hand to stop from laughing out loud.
"What I mean to say is that he's a stupid jerk and, uh," you stuttered, wracking your brain for how else to convince Eliza to surrender. She didn't look convinced by your performance thus far so you begrudgingly decided it was time to bring out the big guns of rom-com cliche. "He's my stupid jerk."
"What?!"
The yell was repeated by Eliza, Ace, and most importantly, Idia. You desperately wanted to tease him for the splotchy red blush covering his face but you knew that you looked just as ridiculous and flustered.
"You heard me, princess. I love him despite his many flaws." Your voice was shaking but Eliza's expression seemed to have lightened. You poignantly avoided looking at Idia, though you could see the bright pink of his hair flaring up in your peripheral. "We may have hated each other for as long as I can remember, but I couldn't help but fall for him. I'm sorry, Eliza but I just can't let him marry you without knowing that I'm in love with him!"
Now you looked Idia directly in the eye. You sincerely hoped he knew you weren't serious, though to be perfectly honest, you didn't know if you were serious. Sure, the romance trope exaggeration was there but nothing you said was untrue.
Now Eliza's eyes were brimmed with tears. She clasped her hands to her chest as if she were overwhelmed with emotion. She looked between you and Idia and fanned her eyes.
"That's just beautiful," she sobbed, delighted to see a real romance novel unfolding before her. "I could never part the two of you, not when you're so perfect for each other. It's like a real fairytale!"
You held your breath, not wanting to slip up and incur her wrath again. She dabbed at her teary eyes with a lace handkerchief one of her courtiers had supplied.
"You're right, darling! I can't marry someone with such a love story ahead of them!" She snapped her fingers and Idia's chains were released. He took a deep breath and tripped over himself getting as far from Eliza as he could. He attempted to hide behind you, grabbing your arm like a frightened child. Eliza just giggled. "Aren't they so cute, Puffy? I just adore enemies to lovers!"
As soon as Eliza released the spell on the other students, you were out the door, not bothering to listen to whatever the puffy ghost seemed to be confessing to the princess. Since Idia seemed to be frozen to the spot, you grabbed his hand and dragged him all the way back to the Ignihyde dorm.
The silence went into for too long. You were about to open your mouth to break it when Idia beat you to it.
"That was, uh, quick thinking back there." It didn't escape your notice how he kept his gaze firmly on the ground in front of him. "For a second, I almost thought you were being serious."
He cursed under his breath, silently wishing he hadn't said anything in the first place. You chuckled nervously and rubbed the back of your neck.
"Being good at deceiving people isn't exactly something to be proud of," you sheepishly admitted. You looked at him for a split second before looking away again. "And for what it's worth, I wasn't lying about everything."
Idia didn't have time to say anything before the rosy pink glow on the tips of his hair gave him away. You held back a chuckle at his bashfulness.
"It's true that you are a selfish, entitled, insensitive a$$hole with a gaming addiction."
You couldn't keep in your laughter as Idia physically deflated. He pouted at you as you wiped a joyful tear from your eye.
"Quit laughing! As if getting kidnapped wasn't bad enough, I had to deal you pretending like you loved me!" Idia scoffed, his cheeks still flushed with what you assumed was frustration. "My energy bar is already at low so can you just drop it?"
You put your hands up in surrender, confused by his suddenly defensive demeanor.
"I'm sorry, jeez! I didn't know you hated me so much that even the idea of me having feelings for you is so physically revolting," you tried to keep your tone teasing and light but you couldn't help feeling disappointed, even though you knew he'd never liked you.
"I never said that!" Idia insisted defensively. You rolled your eyes and turned to leave, your smirk falling as soon as he couldn't see you. "For the record, I wouldn't care if you liked me!"
"Good because I don't!" You threw your hands up in frustration and started back towards the main campus.
"Wait!"
You turned around, expecting Idia to say something even more condescending. What was shocking was how sheepish he looked. It wasn't an uncommon sight to see Idia Shroud hunched over and sulking but he looked regretful not just anxious.
"I don't hate you, Y/N," he mumbled, nervously rubbing his arm. "I just... don't know how to act in this kind of situation IRL."
"What situation?"
He opened his mouth to speak but shut it again. He repeated that process a few times before his face was so red you thought he was going to explode.
"Idia?"
"Having... Feelings. For you," he finally managed to sputter out. He really wished he was wearing his hoodie so he could disappear into it. "Dating sims make love look so easy but you don't have a heart meter and I'm too much of a coward to get daily interactions."
"You mean, that you..." You were so shocked you could barely form words. Idia settled for hiding behind the collar of his suit jacket. You giggled while thinking that he kind of looked like a turtle in it's shell when he tucked into his jacket. "You like me? For real?"
"For real. I didn't even consider myself a romanceable until you got isekai-ed into our world and now I'm at 8 hearts for you." He was internally praying that you understood his niche video game references and didn't think he was a total dweeb. "If you meant a word of what you said to Eliza, would you, maybe, consider making it 10 hearts?"
He closed his eyes, bracing for your reaction. When he heard you step closer, he had expected a slap in the face, but definitely not for you to grab his hands gently.
"And where's my bouquet, huh?" you teased, though you couldn't keep a giddy smile from creeping onto your lips. You laughed as Idia's hair seemed to flare up in a burst. He looked at you in shock and adoration as you smiled. "I want a proper proposal, weaboo."
"We could, um," Idia gulped, trying to find the right words with you staring at him so tenderly. "Co-op on my farm in Stardew and then I'd take you to the pier or somewhere more, uh, romantic."
You smiled and extended your arm to him jokingly. He took your arm and covered his blushing face with the other hand. You giggled as his shyness and gestured for him to lead to way to his gaming room.
"Sounds perfect."

Alright another update on my descent into Hyrule warriors hell
I still can’t beat the level to get Volga’s first weapon upgrade
I haven’t even FOUND young link’s OR King Daphnes’s first weapon upgrades that shit doesn’t seem to exist. I found the third one for both of them, but that doesn’t really help me if I can’t find the first ones????
I have Ghirahim’s all black outfit and I am literally squealing and giggling and kicking my feet he looks SO GOOD
Still in the process of going back and getting all the stuff I skipped over/couldn’t get during my blitz through the first two maps, but I’m making a lot of progress on heart containers.
I now have 3 fairies with the revival ability and one with a health regen one. I don’t really understand how they work outside of that. They’re here to get me up after someone smacks me in a no-heal one-hit-death map which there are TOO MANY OF
Speaking of maps where if you get hit you instantly perish, spinner upgrade is the enemy. I WANT A LEVEL THREE SPINNER I LOVE THE SPINNER ITS MY FAVORITE LINK WEAPON BUT I NEED TO BEAT A WHOKE MAP EITHOUT GETTING HIT ;_; just let me beyblade game please
Uhhhhh oh yeah, in a video I watched about all the weapons the guy said the dominion rod was mid and I think he’s just a coward I LOVE that thing! Dominion rod FUCKS dude
I don’t know how to unlock the abilities on the master sword and at this point I’m too afraid to ask
Speaking of power creep, somehow Skull Kid has become the most powerful character in my arsenal right now. I just happened to get some awesome weapon drops after upgrading his ocarina and now I have a 392 power weapon with really great abilities, he just carves through maps like it’s nobodies business??? Little dude is COOKING
I finally figured out Zant’s gimmick and I feel a tad bit silly for not understanding it earlier (you have to use the gauge ability once it fills or else he falls on his face when you try to do something else. I was out here just thinking he was clumsy)
I have a random unlocked ability on Linkle’s crossbows that I’ve been transferring through every upgrade because it’s really funny. I call it the “fuck them kids” ability cause it increases damage on specifically skull kid and toon link (and tingle but he’s very rarely utilized as an opponent so I forget he’s in the termina classification—and why even is he in the termina classification he’s been in so many games? He has is own games???)

My thoughts on the Super Mario Movie
Tumblr media
My autistic ass needs someone to talk to about this film and I have nobody. I know I don’t post as often anymore on here but I need to let this energy out. Here’s what did work and didn’t work
What did work:
the animation: DAMN. It looked amazing. I loved how smooth they looked on screen and the details of the character models, the background, etc. You can tell they put a lot of love into it. It felt so nice to see our favorite video game characters on screen like this. All of the references were such a joy to find and recognize. It’s also crazy that Mario came from being an 8bit model to this glorious, detailed, 3D model. And some scenes “camera” moved in a way that would be in a game. When Mario and Luigi were on their way to their first plumbing job, the “camera” moved sideways as the first Mario games were side-scrolling. When Toad and Mario were heading to the castle and poor Mario was being thrown around, the “camera” moved around like I guess the newer games? I mean it looked like Super Mario Odyssey but there could be other games, I haven’t played every single one (now I want to). Really cool attention to detail. My autistic ass loves attention to detail. The models looked good as well like Bowser’s scales and the brothers’ clothing. Funny how 3D animation wasn’t as detailed before like with Veggietales and Toy Story 1 but now we have HAIR. You get it.
The music: Some parts hit, some didn’t. I loved the orchestral remixes of our beloved songs. When the kart scene came on, I immediately recognized the music and felt PUMPED, especially when they were making the karts and I heard the Mario Kart 8 theme. I wanted to jump out of my seat but couldn’t cause I didn’t wanna be weird. Hearing the theme songs as well felt satisfying. It scratched that itch I didn’t know I needed to be scratched. I found myself listening to the soundtrack right after. I’m glad they chose 80’s songs rather than fucking Doja Cat or whatever but it still threw me off hearing Take On Me, Holding Out for a Hero, and Mr. Blue Sky. (Cmon Shrek did Holding Out better. No topping it) As much as I love those songs, I remembered that this is an Illumination movie so of course they’d have popular songs. If they left the pop songs in the human world and kept the Mario songs in the Mushroom kingdom, etc, it would’ve made a little more sense. No Sleep til Brooklyn was good tho, made sense cause they live in Brooklyn and they were in the human world.
Chris Pratt: Yes, I know everyone was skeptical of Chris Pratt playing Mario. I love Chris in Guardians of the Galaxy as Peter Quill so I didn’t have much doubt but since he is a celebrity and you know how movies these days (mainly Illumination) love to get big names in their films. I wasn’t disappointed. He was good, not bad. As much as I love Martinet’s iconic Mario, I don’t think I’d be able to handle hearing it the whole time. It’s iconic but let’s be real hearing “let’s-a-go!” the whole time is a bit jarring. Mario’s from Brooklyn so that’s what Chris tried. And his Wahoo! was good! You knew he didn’t want to ruin this character because of how much it holds. He TRIED. And Martinet as Giuseppe saying “it’s a perfect!” Felt like he was sharing the torch with Chris. He squished all the critics doubts by saying “he’s Mario too, it’s fine. Deal with it.” Hearing the voice made me smile so wide, it was like hearing an old friend. I think he even said that doing Mario’s voice too much hurt so we don’t want him to feel any pain for our sake! We all owe Chris an apology. You did great bro
Seth Rogan: I love DK. He’s big, loud, goofy, and strong. Seth did that right and honestly idk who else would play him. Hearing Seth’s iconic laugh made me laugh, idk who can hate it. It fit DK as it kind of…sounded ape-like? The whole fight between Mario and DK was straight out of a game. I loved the interaction between DK and Mario. They’re enemies at first but soon, they respect each other as in the games. I wish that wasn’t the whole character development between two characters in the movie, I wish it was Mario & Luigi, Mario and toad, or Mario and Peach. Hell, even Mario and Bowser. But this is only the first movie so we’ll see more
Anna-Taylor Joy: not much to say about her. I think Peach was fun and I’m glad they didn’t go the “damsel in distress” or “girl boss” route. I’m tired of woke. We get it, we’re becoming SOMEWHAT better in terms of shit like that but god we don’t need it every time. Peach was a badass, she cared for her kingdom and subjects, and she was sweet. That’s Peach! It wasn’t the “I don’t need no man” or forced relationship with Mario and that was good. I loved Peach’s racing outfit too and all the power ups. Peach was awesome, I’m glad they didn’t ruin her
Charlie Day: I haven’t seen much of him but wow I loved his Luigi! I always loved Luigi, he was always the b guy and he deserves a lot of love. He’s adorable. I wish Luigi had more of an interaction with Bowser. We could’ve gotten a lot of funny scenes with them together (of course it’d be fuel to the shipping fire) and it was cut too short. I mean, bowser didn’t need MUCH from Luigi, he just needed information so it wouldn’t make sense why he’d keep him around when he could throw him in the dungeon with Luma, the penguins, etc. And the whole thing with Mario and Luigi “sticking together” was nice but…they weren’t together AS much? Yes, Bowser kidnapped him but idk it didn’t really feel so emotional. Their team up at the end was amazing of course, had the biggest smile with the star music on. Luigi must be protected
Keegan-Michael Key: His Toad was good! Kind of wished we saw more of Toad and Mario together but he was the comic relief. Sucked he wasn’t in it as much but maybe next movie.
Jack Black: MY MAN. GOD HE KILLED IT. Was that any surprise? No, everyone knew Jack was gonna bring his a-game and he did. Bowser’s singing was amazing, I was cracking up during that scene. PEACHES PEACHES PEACHES aah it’s good. I loved how Bowser went from his usual scary self to a big sweetheart who just wants to love someone. Yea, he did threaten to kill Peach’s kingdom if she didn’t marry him but hey he said he wouldn’t if she agreed! You can absolutely tell Jack loved his role and that’s so important in movies for it to turn out well. Honestly, I’d say Bowser was my favorite in the whole movie! (Ngl, Bowser kinda..) Bowser was intimidating at parts, especially with Luigi. He was a lot scarier than I remembered and damn he is a power house. Im surprised that I didn’t see him utilize his shell and spin with it but whatever.
The story: yes there wasn’t much of a big plot. Do I care? Not really. It’s Mario! You don’t really need a plot per se because you already know the characters, you know the concept of Super Mario. To me, it was as if I was playing a really well animated game. It was fast, fun, and left me with a warm fuzzy feeling. The plot WAS Bowser coming, Mario and Luigi starting a company and not feeling like they’re on top. You don’t need a different story with Mario. Yes, this movie wasn’t on the level of Into the Spider-Verse or Puss in Boots like we were expecting but it didn’t need to be. I had a great time with a story or not
The sound effects: god, the little kid in me wanted to SCREAM. It felt so satisfying to hear all the sounds we hear in the games from hitting a shell, hitting the mystery box, or landing on the flag pole at the end of a level. They really hit the nail with them. And Luigi’s ringtone was GameCube!!
Oh yeah I loved Kamek’s voice. He sounded exactly how I pictured it. He was great. Loved the scene of him dressing up as Peach and getting ANGRY that he didn’t kiss Bowser
What didn’t work:
The slow motion moments: this was when I remembered “oh yea, illumination made this.” Some of the moments were fine with Mario giving Peach a side eye (with rizz). That was funny. But all the other times, it felt like the screaming goats in Thor Love and Thunder. In other words, it was used too much. To me, the slow-motion parts are just “haha, their voice is deep and slow. They move slowly. Haha funny joke.”
The songs: I did say the songs worked but they didn’t at the same time. I LOVED hearing all the familiar songs and sounds from the games. I liked the 80’s songs as Mario was made in the 80’s but it didn’t fit movie. As I said, it would’ve been better if they kept the 80’s songs in the human world and the Mario-esque songs in the Mushroom Kingdom, etc. But Illumination has gotta…illuminate I guess
The pacing: I felt like it was TOO quick. They go from Mario ending up in the Mushroom Kingdom and he finds Toad with barely an introduction and they rush to the castle. Then Mario finds Peach who just so happens to be going to the same place at the right time. There wasn’t enough time to breathe and there could’ve been so many good character interactions and development if they made it longer. We could have had more of Bowser and Luigi, Mario and Toad and Peach. I mean there are lots of characters and they have yet to introduce Yoshi, the Koopalings, and Daisy so hopefully it will be better in the second.
Illumination: I’m not too crazy with this studio. I love Despicable Me 1&2 but the rest are just meh. There were moments in the movie that were just so like this studio that it somewhat felt weird. The plumbing scene was funny but I think that is a good example. The whole thing with the dog being malicious was an Illumination thing. So were some of the models of the humans. The songs. Idk. If this movie was made by another studio like Dreamworks or Sony, maybe it would’ve been better??
Overall, I’d give this movie a 7.5/10. It had great moments and a lot going for it but there is still room for improvement. And that’s completely okay because we still have another movie. We only saw these characters on screen for ONE movie so there’s still more to be seen. I say fuck the critics, they don’t know what they’re talking about. This movie didn’t need to be woke or whatever. It almost didn’t need a plot. This movie was such a beautiful love letter to all of the Nintendo fans and I was smiling the entire time. They knew not to make it flop because of how iconic and beloved Mario is. I felt like a little kid again as I watched my favorite video game characters on screen and now I feel the need to play my Wii or switch. I look forward to seeing what they do in the next film.
TLDR: go see it. It’s a lot of fun
Also LET ME VOICE YOSHI I CAN DO HIS VOICE. IM GOING TO BE ON A TEACHER’S SALARY IM GONNA BE BROKE

Ok your turn for a top 5, let’s make it fun. Top 5 Pablo Scrieber scenes and the wine you’d find most appropriate to go with said scene.
Hee, this is definitely a fun one, thanks! 😎👍 I should mention this is all going to be Halo-related because I don't have any thing other of his that I've already made into GIFs so... 🤷‍♀️😉
All right, here we go, counting down to number one!
Tumblr media
5 - Halo 1x01 This was a great way to bring Chief in, IMO! I mean, what is more Chief-like than falling out of the sky into the middle of some enemies, right? At the time, I only knew the games vaguely but, even still, I thought the suit looked AWESOME here. And now that I do know the games... I still think it looks awesome, what can I say?
I would pair this lovely opening scene with a Classic Coke Zero because... Chief is a classic! 😎👍
Tumblr media
4 - Halo 1x04 Oh man, this one hits me in the feels every time. I love how you see all of these emotions go through him: curiosity, longing, confusion, ending with him looking away and pulling some resolve back around himself. Because he's feeling this want to be loved, to have someone to laugh with, to care about and who'll care about him, and he doesn't know what to do with that. It doesn't fit a lifetime of Spartan training. He's not supposed to want those things, he's not even supposed to think about those things. But now he is and nothing is going to be the same ever again.
I would pair this with a cup of Maxwell House Chai Latte because it's coffee... but it's tea. But it's coffee and tea. And it's confusing but... I like it. 😂😉
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3 - Halo 1x04 I love that we finally get to see a reserved playfulness between them! Plus, him reference that line that Kwan told him serves to both show that he's learning, he understands why she said that to him, but it also was a way to link Kwan back to all of this time away from her. I know it would've been difficult to keep them involved with each other after they separated but it would've done a lot to make her story feel more necessary if that link between them would've been somehow strengthened instead of just vanishing. I mean, a couple of quick calls? Something to let them talk and connect? I dunno. There wasn't really time in his plot, I know but it would've gone a long way if they could've found a way, IMO. 🤷‍♀️
I would pair this scene with a Dr Pepper Cream Soda Zero, because it's light, sweet and fizzy! 💖
Tumblr media
2 - Halo 1x09 This entire scene, as he slowly realizes that he's going to have to cease to exist in order for Cortana to both save Silver Team and to recover the Artifact... It's just good. Not only are we seeing his trust in Cortana bloom at last but the thing that always gets me in this final moment, as he tells her that he trusts her, is the look on his face. He's not angry anymore, not railing against the events that have brought him to this point, not raging against what Halsey did to him by implanting an AI into his brain with the intention of replacing him in his own body. No, he looks almost peaceful, resolved. He's ready to accept his fate, whatever it may be. *clutches him to my fangirly heart*
I would pair this with a nice cup of Oolong tea, my favorite kind. 🍵
Honorable mention:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Halo 1x06 Now, this isn't for the obvious reasons, I promise, lol! He looks and sounds like he's dying in this scene and yet NOBODY checks on him? That bugged me so much that I wrote a one-shot fic about it. It was originally going to make use of an OC but I made a last minute decision to redo it as a Reader fic instead. And that was "15 Minutes" which became one of the most favorite things I've ever written (and spun off a series, also featuring "Recreation" a Kai x Male!Reader fic, both still on-going).
I would pair this scene with a cup of delicious Folgers Mocha Chocolate Flavored Cappuccino ☕ in gratitude for all it ended up giving me. 😉
Annnnd *drum-roll* for our winner, winner, chicken dinner!
1 - Halo 1x06 Since I had this one in video form, I had to go ahead and include it like this. MANNNN, this scene! Everybody here was acting their butts off, IMO. Halsey went from surprised to stern to absolutely terrified over the course of the scene. I really wasn't sure at the time if Cortana could have forced him to open the door or if she was playing the odds that he wouldn't let Halsey die. 🤷‍♀️👀 And John was genuinely scary here. His anger is clearly burning under an icy resolve and, again, I wasn't sure up until that last second if he was legit going to let her die. I mean, unless they were going to turn Chief into a straight-up murderer, then I knew he wouldn't, but dannnng, I can't think of much else that would be scarier than a Spartan looking at you with such hatred and contempt. 😱😱😱
I would pair this scene with the tears of Chief's enemies because they would be overflowing and plentiful. 👀😳😉
And there we have it! Thanks again! 😎👍

Today Kat is talking about FNAF's storytelling. Warning, spoilers for the Ruin DLC under the cut.
So I have a small bone to pick with the FNAF Ruin DLC. And this may surprise you, since I don't interact with the Fnaf fandom in the slightest. You wouldn't think I'd even looked at this thing, but surprise, I did! I have friends who are into it, so I loosely keep up so I can understand what they're talking about. But also there is a small part of me that's started to enjoy it, as much as I don't like admitting to it. Fnaf FREAKED me out when the series originally started, I hated it with a passion, and the stuff that I like from it is mostly more recent games. Like my favorite characters are Ballora, Mr. Hippo, the Daycare Attendants, and most of the Glamrocks, I think that tells you most of what you need to know. Ironically, I have an interest in audio animatronics now, thanks to a lot of the TPM videos of Disney animatronics and how they work. But I'm getting ahead of myself.
Fnaf has never been known for having award winning writing, and I know that nobody expects the writing to be great at this point, but I just, I can't deal with this glaring issue in Ruin. And let me say that I LOVED a lot of what Ruin brought to the table, the AR world was such an interesting concept and mechanic, and it gives us so much to think about in the way of Vanny. I loved Helpi, I loved how suspicious he and the Gregory mimic were, I loved Roxy, I LOVED LOVED LOVED Eclipse, oh my gosh yes. Heck, the telling of Monty's band backstory was SO CUTE too, really loved everything they did with the cardboard cutouts in this one, that was some effective storytelling. And I loved Cassie, she was such a fun character to follow, and her voice acting was top notch. There were a few areas where it was a little off, but that's not on the actor, that's on the voice direction. I'm delighted that she was so emotive and sassy! I too would be so done if I were trying to rescue my friend but kept getting hunted by broken animatronics.
But by the time we get to the end of the game, even though I loved everything else, the enemy we faced really left me baffled (and no it's not because of the book stuff, I have no issue with that today). Which led to this gem of a quote to one of my friends.
"The weakness of one of the most powerful enemies in all of Fnaf: concrete."
You're telling me this mimic robot can mess with Helpi and the world of AR, a mechanic that actively LETS YOU WALK THROUGH WALLS, but it can't clear a singular wall of concrete??? No, I don't buy it. I don't expect great stories from Fnaf, but this is a new level of not thought through. There is no reason this thing couldn't break out of its prison without us. Especially if it does comply with the book canon of being able to contort and fit into costumes with a variety of shapes, how can it not get out? Additionally, I really don't love the design of its mascot costumes. They don't look like they fit in this world at all. And maybe it's to try and push some new designs for a new game or DLC, but it just, isn't working for me. I mean the way the eyes on the lion one match the stylization of Glitchtrap's head, which was good, but that's my only good note. And that's not even getting into the millions of questions about HOW this robot has a bunch of FABRIC costumes that are mostly in tact in an establishment that was burned down FROM THE BASEMENT AREA. If it's been locked down there for so long, how does it have these in as good of condition as they're in? What were they used for before this? Could we have gotten any set dressing like posters of old characters down in this area to maybe foreshadow/explain this? Maybe a desk with prototype mascot designs? Just, SOMETHING so it's not out of left field. Some things are good when they come out of nowhere, but this did not do it for me.
I'll probably let this go over time and go back to my regularly scheduled enjoyment of mutuals posting and reblogging the daycare attendants. This has just been bugging me all week, and I wanted to talk about it. I acknowledge that I like a lot of things where the writing isn't exactly great, and it doesn't have to be the best in the world to be effective or enjoyable. But this actively killed the experience for me by the end. And I'm annoyed I feel that way, because the rest of this WAS really fun. I'd say this is one of the times I enjoyed FNAF the most, it just didn't stick the landing. Couldn't keep my suspension of disbelief.

For the gaming asks: 5, 12, 21 and 40?
5. Most memorable gaming moment?
HMM.... That is such a difficult question, it's really hard to pick! I think my answer to this is going to be an emergent moment, as opposed to a scripted plot event. Also I think I'm going to pick something recent lol, because I'd really have to sit and think about it if I was flipping through my entire video game history. So, how about a couple of little memorable moments from the last month or so?
Here's one. In Gravity Rush 2, I found an NPC busking. I stopped by him and applauded, then I used the sing emote. The guy dropped his guitar and started clapping for me! My jaw dropped, I was like, that was so cute, what a reactive sequence of events! (GR2 is full of pleasant surprises like that, and is my favorite thing about the game.)
I've also had a lot of memorable moments in my current Final Fantasy Tactics challenge playthrough, too. Outside of the hat guy stealing Gafgarion's sword and teleporting everywhere with Silky, I encountered an enemy Oracle in a random battle in Grog Hill, alongside a bunch of monsters. Since this is an invitation-only run, I had my eyes peeled for job classes I didn't already have (I also have the stipulation that any unit I invited has to keep their default job), so this Oracle was very attractive to me. When I got her in my party, I discovered she actually had more levels in Mediator than Oracle--which kinda makes sense, if you think about it on a mechanical level, because Mediator is the job that allows units to talk to monsters. Grog Hill is also located right near the largest battles of the War of the Lions, and we've encountered deserters there before. Zoe and I came up with a little backstory for her that was like, she used to be a Mediator with one of the armies, but got sick of the war and ditched, befriended some monsters in the countryside, and went Buddhist. (I find I'm creating a lot of interesting tiny narratives in my head for my generics in this run.)
12. Favorite game character?
How am I supposed to pick!!! My favorite characters are almost always from video games LMAO. I'll just name a couple.
Protagonist: Sissel (Ghost Trick) or Red & Mr. Nobody (Transistor) Party member: Aeris/th (FFVII & FFVIIR) NPC helper: Leliana (DAI) Antagonist: Tokiko Shigure (AITSF:NI) Of all time probably: Ovelia (FFT)
21. A game you thought you wouldn't like, but ended up loving?
Oh my gosh, I think the obvious answer to this one is also a recent pick, lol. I usually don't play games I'm expecting to dislike, true, but it does happen, especially if I'm just curious to test something out, or if I feel like I have to play it for whatever reason. Crimson Shroud is an example of the latter. Like, as a lover of Yasumi Matsuno and the other usual suspects he works with (like Basiscape), I felt like I owed it to myself to give Crimson Shroud a try, as the entry of his that I knew the least about, and especially because it's genuinely difficult to play it these days, so the game preservationist in me was like You Gotta.
But it seemed like everything I'd heard about it was designed to put me off. The oversexualized teenage girl. The fantasy oppressed ethnic group. The fact that the two main guys are named "Giauque" and "Lippi." The old and tired D&D tropes played completely straight. The fact that it was originally intended as a spiritual successor to Vagrant Story, a game that I admire specifically for its genre bending and cinematography, when Crimson Shroud wasn't doing the first thing, and, as for the latter, its characters are presented as static tabletop models... so I couldn't expect the kind of vibrant staging that Vagrant Story had. The dense mechanics (yes, I know that's a mainstay, but I do also have a habit of bouncing off of his games as well lol).
AND YET. While I still think it's probably Matsuno's weakest entry, it totally charmed me. I mean, you've read what I think about it already, but still. I think it was totally worth the playthrough, and it's got just as much charm as everything else he's written. I appreciated the dense mechanics much more because of the short playtime, and the tabletop figurines were genuinely interesting to look at, in the end. They were staged in amusing ways. YEAH. I DUNNO. I kinda like Crimson Shroud a lot.
Oh! I think another recent one is Misericorde. As someone who was never into visual novels growing up, I've become way more open-minded to them over the years (thanks to Zoe introducing me to Zero Escape tbh) and I was actively interested in the Nun Game, but I was admittedly frustrated when I belatedly realized that there was going to be no gameplay at all, not even basic exploration or a handful of dialogue options, outside of clicking through the text boxes. Partway through I was like "I don't think this is working for me." But after I got to the end, I found I couldn't stop thinking about it. Hedwig in particular really stuck with me. I'm actually extremely excited for the next entry, even if it's "just" reading. I know what I'm getting into this time, so I won't have any false expectations from the start, and I can enjoy it for what it is.
40. Best game cover art.
INTERESTING QUESTION..... Hmm..... I really like the cover for Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together, and had a lot of fun trying to figure out who the characters were. Vyce running away in the background is also unintentionally hilarious. Her Story's cover is extremely clever once you figure out what's going on there. Zoe rightly pointed out that the Japanese Switch cover for Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age is gorgeous. I also like the covers of Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions, Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, Pyre... I guess for the most part I really like a well-made character ensemble cover??

Attack on Titan: PS4 game review
Attack On Titan is one of the best and most depressing series.
Attack On Titan returns once again for a one-hour special during its final season less than a month from now. I figured now is a good time to talk about one of its games since we are rapidly approaching the end.
I have a huge soft spot for AOT. The first season aired in 2013. It's been ten years since humanity received a grim reminder about living in fear of the titans. I was twelve when I watched the show and obsessed about it with fellow friends and middle schoolers. The first three seasons illicit heavy nostalgia for simpler times in my life. Despite breaking up the last season into three parts and dragging it out the past few years, the complexity and depth the latest season has wrought is nothing short of a spectacle.
With season four bringing heartbreaking revelations, deaths of beloved characters, and jaw-dropping plot twists, I am simultaneously looking forward to and dreading the ending of this amazing anime. I am also nostalgic for the simplicities season 1 brought. Humanity versus Titans. So to play the first Attack On Titan video game was an intriguing look back on how far the cast has come.
Season 4 of Attack On Titan has a complex web woven into the narrative, but the first season was rather simple for quite some time. Enormous, naked, ugly humanoid creatures are running around, eating people, and leaving a path of destruction in their wake. Humanity fights back however possible.
The game, mundanely titled Attack On Titan, follows season one. If you've never watched the first season and wanted the experience without sitting down to view it, playing Attack on Titan might be the next best thing. Though I wouldn't recommend playing over watching. If you're a fan of AOT but have not played the game, it's at least worth a try.
AOT, the game, was developed by Koei Tecmo and Omega Force: The same teams behind the Dynasty Warrior games, which is one of my favorite gaming series. However, what I love most about Dynasty Warriors and their other "Warrior" games (One Piece Pirate Warriors, Samurai Warriors, Warriors Orochi, Persona 5 Strikers, etc.) is the power fantasy. In those games, you have your selection of characters and some strong officers or bosses to fight. But a plethora of the enemies you fight in those games is canon fodder. Grunts throw themselves at you, and one combo later, you've defeated thirty enemies in seconds. Those games make you feel like a god amongst men as you slaughter hundreds or thousands of nobodies.
AOT does the opposite of that.
It makes sense. There's no way to get that power fantasy when you're a regular human going against giants. Instead of flashy combos, the combat revolves around hooking your maneuver gear onto the limbs of the titan speeding close and slashing at them from various angles. It adapts the show's combat rather perfectly. The novelty of it dissipated from me after the first ten hours, though.
Maneuvering around the map with the mobility gear is the most satisfying aspect of the gameplay. The art of locking onto titans and attempting to slash their limbs or their weak spot, the nape, felt tedious after a while. You could make the same argument for most Koei Tecmo/Omega games. Playing dozens of levels straight of running around and beating up soldiers could be monotonous to those who crave variety. But the Dynasty Warrior games, among others, have a flash to them with colorful characters performing over-the-top special moves that endear me more than a game like this.
The story mode follows the first season, and from the viewpoint of cutscenes, dialogue, and character work, it's a top-tier endeavor. They did a solid job adapting the source material. Gameplay-wise, it's nowhere near bad at all. It's good, even! Hooking yourself around the city has weight to it. It's fun to do. It's almost as satisfying as swinging around New York in Spider-Man on the PS4. If the game was just swinging around, I'd put 100 hours into it. But actually putting in the effort to swing at the right angle and sever multiple limbs just to get at the nape and kill it is taxing. I was willing to do it to get to the end of the story mode but not for expedition mode.
Expedition mode is just a series of free levels where you can pick whatever character you want and complete whatever tasks are assigned. I played a handful of levels and then stopped, lacking the will to put any more time into the game.
So here's what I think. This is a solid, well-crafted, good game. I'm glad I got to play it for a time. It got me somewhat hyped for the one-hour special coming soon. I enjoyed revisiting the story. Gameplay is fine but doesn't feel so exciting to play. I'd recommend it to an AOT fan if you haven't played. Maybe you'll like it way more than me. It's available on PS4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows.
I'd give it a 3.5/5.
(Sidenote: You can play as a titan on some levels. It doesn't happen as often as it should but it's also like the hypest and best part of the game without a doubt.)

13, 12, 15 & 38 for the lotro asks?
13. Any idea how many alts you have?
Well, I have 21 on Crickhollow (though two of those are just storage alts, so I don’t really play on them), and three other unique ones across various other servers, as well as a couple of clones. Probably about 30 total but I only play on four of them anything like regularly.
12. Were there any plot twists that really got you somehow?
I mean the Falcon Clan betrayal of course, but also during my first week or two I got up to the Garth Agarwen questline and I was still bumbling around not expecting much from an MMO and also not reading all the dialogue, but the Red Maid actually being Naruhel? And the fact that we could save her and kind of sort of start to fix things? Hit me real hard. (I’m a little confused by these memories because I distinctly recall doing all the GA quests before I decided the game was definitely worth spending money on, so I must have still been FTP, but wouldn’t quests in the Lone Lands have been locked at that point? Was Garth Agarwen an exception? Surely I hadn’t ground enough LP to buy an entire region before I got to the Lone Lands??? I’m confused. But it was very much one of the plot lines that got me to the point of “I like this so much I’ll spend real money on it.”)
15. Do you have a favorite class to play? A favorite specialization?
So obviously I main a Hunter, and that’s probably my solid favorite if only because bows attract me in a spiritual manner, but I am starting to branch out into Beornings and I’m liking that a lot too. I’m not familiar enough with Beornings yet to have a favorite specialization but with a Hunter all the specs have their pros and cons: blue line lets you run and gun, plus you can squeeze a bit more DPS out of it at higher levels; red line has a lot more range and Merciful Shot unlocks when your target has 75% health instead of 50% (which is the only reason that one class deed ever gets done); and yellow line is just super OP in general. I feel like it’s had fewer balancing tweaks than the other two on account of nobody plays it because it’s hard to figure out. But it’s well worth it because the heavy reliance on traps allows you to take out enemies 15 levels above you, solo bosses in 3-man instances, and manage huge crowds when you accidentally bite off more than you can chew. As far as I can tell the only weakness of the yellow line Hunter is enemies with high-damage AoE skills, which are not super common. (I’m trying to make a yellow line Hunter tank build for funsies, just to see if it works.)
38. Do you have any favorite soundtracks from around the game?
I usually play with the music off and listen to something else, especially if I’m doing something repetitive, but I love the main menu theme, almost anything in Rohan, and the Wildwood themes. And, of course, the Great Wedding. Sometimes either the repetitiveness of tracks or tracks constantly switching between regions can grate on my nerves, but sometimes I’ll just pull up youtube videos of the LotRO soundtracks and listen to them to avoid those issues. I definitely want to import as much of the soundtrack as I can into my personal library.

It was March 12th 2018 (yes I went and checked the day the video was posted) I remember like it was yesterday. At the time I didn't realize how life altering that episode of Kyo's Dreamtalia lp would be. The day the Hand Holding Buddies began. Now...At this point I was a try and true Ger//Ita shipper, but the Hand Holding Buddies...Oh the Hand Holding Buddies gave me such a laugh. I actually started looking forward to the Dreamtalia lps because I needed to see what would happen next for the Hand Holding Buddies. Kyo and Lubo's adlibs are always a joy, but this had to be their greatest adlib of all time.
It was enemies to lovers, it was dramatic, it was finding love amongst a hopeless situation, it was two awkward dudes finding comfort in each other and that was beautiful. The Velveteen Rabbit scene still gets me every fucking time.
Now for how it became my OTP. I know that's not part of the question, but once I've started I can't stop.
So a few months go by. GerEng is great and all but I don't see much of the appeal outside of Dreamtalia. And then... And then it released. September 10th 2019. Erroneous Epilogue. The GerEng game based on the adlib and bad end of Dreamtalia. Arthur goes in to save Ludwig and they kiss. This was the turning point and I searched out content.
Shortly after I finished reading Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell and got inspired to write fanfiction. With GerEng still fresh in my mind from Erroneous Epilogue and a major lacking of GerEng content, I began writing fics and here I am...utterly obsessed.
2. What are your favorite things about the ship?
God... God where do I begin? How could I narrow it down.. Okay we'll keep this to top 3.
1. They are both so awkward and socially inept. But they find comfort in each other 🥺
2. They're each other's rock following the world wars. Ludwig had nobody after that so Arthur became his support. And when Arthur started to spiral once everything calmed down with both Ludwig and the aftermath of the war, Ludwig was there for him as well.
3. They have a lot in common, but are different enough to balance out most of each others short comings
3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
We're a small ship here and everything that I've seen as wildly agreed upon I agree with. So I don't think I have one.

10, 21, and 47 for writer's ask game :D
Thank you for the ask, and for the chance to talk about how I write! It’s always interesting to actually stop and think about my own writing habits and opinions.
10: Do you set yourself deadlines?
Unfortunately, I have the kind of brain that loves the idea of precise deadlines but suffers so much anxiety when they get close – especially once I start thinking about how much more I could polish my work if I had more time – that it more or less shuts down. I can push through this for things like commissions or promises with friends, but when it’s just for me? When there’s nobody requesting it? For that kind of writing, I actively try to avoid setting myself concrete deadlines and just use rough estimates of when I think I’ll be more or less finished with a story. It frees me up to do the deadline-dependent work. Like a marathon runner who saves stamina for the important parts of the race by taking other sections slowly. If I set deadlines for everything I write, I’d burn out and never make it to the finish line… which has, in fact, happened to me when I’ve tried to be strict about self-set deadlines in the past.
21: Who is/are your favorite character(s) to write?
I hate picking favorites in most contexts, for reasons that I could make a whole post about, but I do tend to have fun writing Micah from my WIP “To Be Honest” and Owen from my WIP “A Place to Return.” They’re both so grumpy but affectionate, it’s easy to keep up a quick pace when writing from their POV and their reactions to plot events are always really interesting to me as their writer. Micah wants so badly to seem dignified but is always at least a little annoyed under the surface – and desperately lonely underneath that. Owen wants to seem reliable so he doesn’t damage others’ reputations, but he knows what people think of him and he won’t hesitate to get angry even when he really should be putting on a calm face. I love my other characters, too, and like I said I have issues picking favorites, but I do have a soft spot for these angry boys.
47: Best way to procrastinate?
When you have ADHD, procrastination kind of happens on its own, and all methods of taking a break have value in their own ways. That said, there’s nothing that I can both get lost in and use to reset my brain quite like video games. I’ll say “Just 1 hour of this game and I’ll start writing,” then look at the time and realize 3 hours have already passed while I was defeating enemies or catching monsters or terraforming islands. In those 3 hours, my brain will ease up on critical media analysis and just work to navigate the setting I’m in. It’s like sitting in the audience at a play as a really engaged viewer, instead of sitting there as an understudy for a role thinking about how you’d deliver lines a certain way or wondering if the costumes would look right on you. Video games reliably let me be in the audience, while books and even comics and shows/anime don’t always allow my brain into that space. It’s a good way to remind myself that the view I have of my own writing isn’t necessarily the view readers will have when I share it, which makes the words come a little easier once I’m done playing my games for 3 hours a day, 4 days straight.
