I See You, Darling (4)
Tumblr media
[Astarion x reader] A little longer than usual, I hope that’s fine for all of you :,DDD I didn't want to cram too much into the post though, so the segment at the end might be continued in full detail, or maybe not! Let's see.|Word count: 2.9k.|
Content Warnings: Mentions of cooking, handling knives, blood, allusions to sex, a few ooc characters, reader being a dumbass and wahtnot.
Part 3 here!!
Masterlist here!!
A party is being held at the camp in the heroes’ honor, which greets you with a lively crowd that you’ll hopefully meet again soon. And with a gathering this large, you’re bound to garner attention. But with a constitution as poor as yours from the night before, a round of drinks is the last thing you want.
Alternatively: A bloodless human tries to balance respectfully participating in a drinking party, while also not drinking at all.
————━─━────༺༻────━─━————
The sun rises, the warmth of its rays gently waking you in the absence of the campfire’s flames. The soft chirping of the birds greet you a good morning as your eyes slowly open, ready to greet the day as a new opportunity arises.
Is what would have happened in a more idyllic scenario. Instead, you bolt awake with a pounding headache, worse than any hangover could possibly feel like, and quickly rush to get up. By the sheer brightness of the light that burns your newly opened corneas, it is far later than when you usually wake. And breakfast still hasn’t been made.
“Well, good morning sleepy head.” One of your companions, Gale, says as he fixes his belongings. Readying himself for the skirmish that was about to take hold later on in the day.
“I’m very  sorry for waking up late. It won’t happen again.” You bow your head low for a moment before he waves you off.
“Oh come now, we all have our off days. Besides, I think the rest would agree with me when I say what you made for us last night was more than enough to last us ‘til morning.” His statement is punctuated by the lively sounds of the others training. Ready and well rested for whatever may come.
You look around. None have seemed to mind your temporary absence, so you endeavor to double check with everyone leaving and ensure that they had a sound strategy with the necessary materials and weapons should there be a need for failsafes. You remind them of certain notes that some of them have informed you about but failed to share with the rest of the group.
‘While goblins typically go down faster than other opponents, they have no sense of honor nor pride which gives way for them the opportunity to use more underhanded tactics. But they also aren’t very bright, so you can convince the others to let them infiltrate the camp and eradicate them from the inside out.’
As the rest disperse, finalize their plans and check their supplies, your favorite character approaches you much like he usually does every morning. Only this time, you see that he looks very pleased. A more vibrant spark in his eyes as he opens his mouth to speak.
“Thank goodness you’ve finally woken up.” He looks at you, in the same way an old friend of yours would when they’re seconds away from telling a joke.
The look fades soon enough though as he breathes out. You wonder if it’s because the joke isn't funny anymore, or if he never had a punchline to begin with.
“You looked a little ill last night, but you’ve certainly recovered.” Recovered isn’t the word you would use to describe your current state of feeling almost half dead, but you don’t bother correcting the details.
“And you look particularly vibrant today, Astarion.” The itch of your neck intensifies as you return a pointed look at him as he frowns.
“Oh, of course! Now, don’t be so upset. I will admit that I got a little carried away, I apologize.” He pauses. The frown remains on his face for a while before it is erased with his usual expression of confidence.
“But let’s not fall out over this.” He moves to stand closer to you, taking your hand to his as he nears it to his lips as he continues.
“We need each other.”
And whether its done purposefully or not, you see his fangs peek out from his mouth and a shiver courses through your body.
You slip your hand out of his own in a panic and interject.
“I know that much already, and I trust you not to let what happened last night happen again. I also apologize for not noticing sooner and dealing with the situation better.” You hold your head down a bit to apologize but quickly meet his gaze gain. “But I do need to know what we’ll have to feed you from now on.”
The look of confusion, and perhaps even shock that was once swimming in his eyes dissipates before you can notice them when he swears upon his resolve. “No innocents, you have my word. After all, you know what I am now. I can fight with all my weapons–” He grins, allowing you a clearer view than what you had earlier. “Teeth included.”
“And if I happen to drain the occasional bandit during a fight, what's the harm? They’re just as dead.” He makes a very compelling argument, at least to your standards.
You sigh, satisfied for now. You’re confident that none of your party members would end up at the mercy of his fangs, and you’re more than sure they would be able to overpower him more than your attempts did. But the same sentiment cannot be shared for possibly important, plot driving, characters that you might meet later on.
So you propose something to strengthen your trust that the unlikely will stay the unlikely.
“Look, I’m–” You breathe in, almost as if you're trying to suck back whatever courage washed over you back in as you steeled yourself for what you were about to say next.
“I’m not against you feeding from me, but!” You punctuate the last syllable as you see his grin growing wider. “We need to discuss things beforehand. No prowling over me while waiting for me to wake up or to sink your teeth into.”
The proposal greatly delights him, as is evident in his response. “Of course! That sounds eminently reasonable. I shall wait patiently until you suggest we… dine together. But until then: no more late-night surprises. You have my word on that.”
After that, he makes a joke about feeling ‘peckish already,’ and quickly gathers the rest of the party to leave on their adventure.
You promise them a feast when they came back as the victors that they are. What you forgot, after what felt like weeks in the real world, was the crowd that would come filtering in to celebrate their heroes’ achievements as well.
————————————
When you saw the tieflings from the grove traveling alongside your companions, you knew they had come to celebrate. And you blanched at the thought of the provisions they’d be seeking to pair with their drinking. It’s been so long since you went through this event, and you no longer recall if they even ate anything during the party.
You look at your bubbling cauldron–– a bigger one as you had anticipated a few acquaintances accompanying them–– but you wager that at least a little extra things to nibble on won’t hurt to have. You still have quite the amount of camp supplies in the trunk, but you keep it reserved for the camp’s use only. So you smile at your returning comrades and alert the others that stayed behind for your reason to leave and that they can begin eating dinner.
While others told you it wasn’t necessary, the rest just nodded with a smile and yelled that they’d wait for you to return. You return quite too quickly though, all the while informing them why you’re keeping the communal chest in your tent as you spy the child that tried to steal and swindle the group a few days prior approaching with the rest.
They have a laugh and you quickly proceed with your plan to find at least a few consumable berries and nuts or seeds to accompany the drinks later on.
But foraging for said consumables near dark is a choice not for the faint-hearted. You came to realize this when you heard the low grumble of a large animal, thankfully far from your form. You turn to look behind you, taking great care to do so as slowly as possible so as to not alert the mysterious creature.
In the clearing, you spot a rather dark looking bear and you feel a cold sweat begin to form on your temple. Hands, growing wet in the dangerous situation you’ve placed yourself in. This wasn’t the same as being drained to death by a vampire, that, you could at least reason with. But a wild animal? With your lack of magical prowess and lesser knowledge of connecting with nature and the wild, you would be finished if it were to follow you.
The small pouch of nuts and wild berries stayed holstered on your waist, but the bear’s eyes that were previously low on the ground are now trained on you. Almost as if it were caught doing something it wasn’t supposed to be.
You freeze. You forgot what the basic policy was around brown or black bears and therefore couldn’t do much about your current predicament. There shouldn’t be a bear around this area, not unless they had traveled from far away, or that this bear was one of your future companions.
And while the latter isn’t impossible, you most certainly did not want to gamble your life on a possibility. So you tried to compose yourself, returned the gaze of the bear with a shaky and careful nod, and turned back to return to camp. Figuring that the amount of tidbits you gathered would have to suffice.
When you return, the company you shared seems to be in high spirits. Some more than others. But conversation was plentiful and you smiled as the tieflings cheered for your comrades. You quickly got to work and began to chop the nuts into thinner pieces. Something you learned to make the appearance of something look more abundant than it really is.
While you were chopping away unfortunately, you nick your finger along the way and silently curse. Unfortunate, but not an unforeseeable outcome given the booming drums of the bard that plays oh so nicely with your bloodless state. You quickly, but neatly, arrange the provisions on two small platters, and position them near the larger gatherings.
“Flitting around like a hummingbird as always, I see.” A familiar, but not immediately recognizable voice greets you as you pass them. You turn and you see an unexpected acquaintance with a bottle in their hand and an incredibly charming grin.
“Dammon! How lucky of me to run into you.” You genuinely were elated to see him. You didn’t see much of him later on in the game, and being able to interact with him beyond the opportunities given to you was certainly nice.
“I could say the same. Though you’re as lively as you usually are.” There’s no malice in his tone, only an innocent observation, yet you feel embarrassed to have been seen scuttling about like a bug.
“I– promise I’m more organized. I just didn’t expect us to be having any guests.” He takes notice of how you push your fingers into your palms repetitively, a small action that soothes you.
“I think you’ve done more than a fine job already. The celebration is for you all, and it was us who planned to come and might’ve put your friends on the spot.” He later takes notice of the cut on your finger as well.
“Speaking of,” He gingerly grasps your hand, looking to you for permission, but you’re too confused to respond with anything he can understand. “Shouldn’t you be taking it easy for the night? You’ve done enough. And if what happened at the grove tells me anything about you, I’m sure they’ll survive even if you settle. Just for a bit.”
He leads you nearer to the water and produces a small washcloth to clean a bit of your finger as you respond. “The grove? They did that on their own. I just um, take notes.” You sit on a fallen tree, your head still fuzzy, as you observe his crouched form. Inspecting the cut as he cleans it.
A curious interaction. Not one that you’d expect from an non-romanceable NPC, but an interesting one nonetheless. And it would seem that someone had found it equally as interesting, if the way he scrutinizes you had anything to do about it.
He chuckles in turn. “If modesty is how you like to live, then I won’t impose.” He smiles and gets up as you continue your conversation. You don’t recall if the tiefling has ever had this much screen time, but his voice is rather lovely so you don’t complain about it.
You end up discussing quite a bit, but you focus on what can be done about your party. Specifically Karlach as you worry for the future and you’d like to have answers for her when he isn’t around during your journey. He doesn’t have much idea of what else can be done, but he does mention that he should have something by the time you meet him again in Baldur’s Gate.
You do remember that you might meet him a lot sooner, but you don’t mention it explicitly. You do, however, advise him to be extra careful around the oxen as they can be rather unpredictable this time of year.
As you continue, you notice his eyes flit up every now and then. Like something was catching his attention ever so often. You ask him about it and he actually laughs at your genuine inquiry. “It looks like I was wrong. Your friend there looks like he’d like his turn for your company.”
You turn around and you don’t immediately eye anyone looking in your direction. You were never the subtle type, so you looked around, blatantly searching for someone. It was a bit odd to see.
Your eyes do eventually train on his, but he doesn’t necessarily look like he wants to talk to you. Sure, he’s scowling away, though that’s not out of the ordinary at all. Besides, he has a bottle of something that you hope is helping him relax.
Still, perhaps Dammon saw something you didn’t so you politely thank him for his company and excuse yourself.
You greet the others that regard you as you walk past them. Declining the offers to drink and excusing yourself politely when you were asked to stay a bit.
As you approach him, a tiefling tries to strike up a conversation with him. With a bored look, he dismisses them and turns to look at you. He takes a sip, sneers, and begins his rant now that you’re situated in front of him.
“I hate it. This is awful.”
“The…wine?” He looks at you as if he should be mad, but a hint of amusement surfaces past the expression anyway.
“There’s that, but I’m talking about the tieflings. We killed some goblins to save the others. The tally of lives didn’t change much. But what do I get for my hard work? A pat on the head, and vinegar for wine.” He looks down the neck of the bottle, swirling its contents before handing it out for you to take.
You look at the bottle, then him, warily. Modern alcohol is already a wonder to you, and this medieval mead could only do so much worse. Still, you take the bottle, and take a very small sip.
It’s a heavy, rich, red. Dry and sharp. You make a small sound of shock as you keep the liquid in your mouth. Offering him an awkward smile and a nod as you do.
“Ugh, see what I mean? Awful.”
“All I want is a little fun. Is that so much to ask?” You would think that after an entire day of fighting whatever was out there he’d be tired. Apparently not.
You sigh, ready to reprimand him and that he should just enjoy the night, but you stop when you feel his unburdened hand reach out to you. Eyes, boring into your own as he propositions you.
You’re here. Face in the grasp of a character you’ve longed to romance with what little time you’ve had away from your scholarly pursuits. Yet meeting him in strange, yet not all too unfamiliar, territory stirs uncertainty within you. Because while he doesn't have a knife at your throat like he did when your character first met him, it certainly does evoke the same sentiment.
‘To, “make me his”, is that right?’ While the idea is tempting, that statement alone can have various interpretations. And you didn’t want to hedge your bets on the one that made your heart race for all the wrong reasons.
Thankfully, he releases his hold on your visage. Only the gods know how much his touch alone can influence you, and you struggle to stand upright.
“I’m– very,-- truly, sorry, but don’t you think you have the wrong person? I mean,” You gesture to yourself with both hands, a cut visible from the labor in the few hours prior to the large festivities going on.. “Uh…in case you haven’t noticed, I’m not exactly in a position to make any um, lucrative offers.”
He looks at you, a familiar expression graces his face. He leans his weight on one leg, and you struggle to recognize what his body language is conveying. This is one of those instances you wished you had the dice roll mechanic of the game at your disposal.
“Why, that hardly matters, darling. What matters is that you’re here.” He takes a sip from his bottle, the very same that he allowed you to partake from moments prior. Only this time, without the sneer at the aftertaste as he continues.
“But then again, what’s a sinner to do when faced with the very embodiment of chastity?” A smile graces his face, but it’s one that is all too perfect. As if he’s rehearsed the same song and dance enough to save him lifetimes.
“Let’s wait until things quieten down. Once the others are asleep we’ll find each other.”
You have no idea what to expect. Well, you do, but you’re not very sure if this is necessary. You’ll just have to find a way to continue the story without having to go through with this. For now, at least.
“We’ll see about that, Astarion.”

I should leave, I haven't yet, but when you smile, I just forget
↶ೃ✧˚. ❃ ↷ ˊˎ-
You can swear this day can't get any worse. You’ve been on your feet basically the entire day, always rushing from your students here to there. You love the little kiddos with your entire heart, but today, for some reason, they are being an extra pain in the ass. They aren’t as cooperative as you’d prefer; you don’t know what’s gotten into them, they are like little energy packets constantly running around.
Due to some teacher duties you aren’t even able to sit down for your lunch break, taking away the only 15 minutes you have to yourself. And it just gets progressively worse when you finally leave the school to go back to your place and your car has a slashed tire, and today had to be the day when you don’t have a spare tire in your trunk.
It’s been over 6 hours since you left your house this morning, and it’s just Tuesday, but it’s feeling like the longest, most excruciating week ever. You’re now leaning against your car door, letting out a deep exhale as you lean your head back, feeling a headache creep into your brain and pulse harshly. You’re tired, hungry, absolutely exhausted… and all you want are the warm hugs of your boyfriend.
Your boyfriend.
Rafe is quite a new addition in your life, both of you being together for a mere month. He’s been so loving to you, always protective and just genuinely taking great care of you.
You pull out your phone and find his contact, but before you can dial him, your thumb hovers over his name in sudden realization – he’s always at work at this time.
You begin to contemplate your initial decision of asking him to come here to help you out, and then ultimately decide against it, realizing he’s probably very busy at work, and would only be heavily distracted if you call him.
So, just like how you always do it, you decide to take matters into your own hands.
↶ೃ✧˚. ❃ ↷ ˊˎ-
It’s nearing 6 pm when you finally get to reach your place. You had to make calls to get yourself a mechanic to get your car fixed, who took his sweet sweet time to come to you. You’re now completely exhausted, wanting nothing more than just to plop on your bed and sleep till your heart desires. You can hear your stomach grumble since you never had the chance to eat the lunch you missed out on, but you make it a problem for later, deciding to just take a nap first.
As you drive into your driveway, you recognise Rafe’s black Range Rover already parked, with him standing next to it, leaning back against the hood of his car as he’s looking intently at his phone. As he catches the sound of your car driving, he instantly looks up, watching your car enter the driveway.
Before you can properly park and get out, Rafe rushes to you, opening the door for you.
“Oh my god where have you been?” He asks you, his voice laced with concern. “I tried calling you and texting you, you always come back home by late afternoon,”
You step out of the car and Rafe shuts the door, a hand quickly landing at the small of your back as you both walk to the porch of your house. He can see you’re really tired; droopy eyes, heavy steps, deep sighs; he knows something happened.
“Yeah my phone died,” you mutter as you unlock the main door of your house, both of you stepping inside. “I just… today was kind of a heavy day, nothing much honestly,” you shrug as you toss your keys in the dish and remove your coat and shoes.
“What happened?” Rafe asks, still really concerned for you as he watches you take off your cost and hang it on the coat rack. As you’re done, you face him with a small smile on your face.
“Nothing much, really,” you say softly, gently cupping his cheek with a hand and tenderly caressing his skin. “Don’t worry, yeah?” You mumble, taking your hand off his cheek as you make your way to the kitchen.
Rafe stays on your heels, following you and monitoring every single move of yours – your padding till the fridge, opening it, getting a bottle of water, unscrewing it and drinking from it.
“You look so exhausted, I can see it in your eyes,” he comments. “Your hair is all messy, your clothes are dirty; it’s clearly not nothing. Come on, tell me, what happened,”
His voice is stern, but not in an angry way; but in an apprehensive way. He moves his hand to your face, gently brushing your hair as he fixes some of the unruly strands.
As you finish drinking your water; drinking almost all of it in one go, you keep your bottle aside and let out a sigh, turning to look at him. “It was just one of those… heavy days, but it’s over now yeah? I’m now home,” you say softly.
“But just tell me what happened,” Rafe’s voice now drops to a whisper as he moves closer to you, continuing to weave his fingers through your hair.
You close your eyes for a moment, delving into the relaxing feeling of Rafe’s fingers softly combing through your hair, but also realizing he’s going to keep pressing for you to tell him what happened.
“The kids were a bit uncooperative today,” you say with a soft chuckle. “And then we have this event coming up at school, so I was busy for my entire lunch break preparing for it. And then my car had a flat tire and I didn’t have a spare so I had to get a mechanic, which took most of the time. But besides that, nothing much happened,” you say with a small shrug.
“Besides all that?” Rafe mutters incredulously. “That’s already a lot, baby, why didn’t you call me when you found out about your flat tire? I would’ve come; or sent someone to get you, we would’ve had lunch in my office, and I would have had someone take care of the tire and bring your car back too.” There’s a small frown on his face and he now holds your face in both his hands, gently skimming your cheeks with his thumbs.
You look up in his soft, baby blue eyes. “I did think of calling you but-”
“But?”
“But I thought…” you take a deep breath, your eye contact with him faltering. “you’ll be busy, and I didn’t want to be a burden to you, really, I was able to get it all fixed just fine,”
You can hear Rafe tsk; his tongue clicking against his teeth as he softly shakes his head. “I’m never busy for you okay? My work does not ever get more importance than you, okay? It never does, and it never will, especially when you’re in trouble and need help,”
He gently grips your chin and tips your head back just a bit, making you look at him. His eyes are softened, the blue even more warmer than usual.
“I know you prefer to do things on your own,” he whispers, “but you have to realise that you really don’t need to do each thing on your own, especially now that I’m around. I won’t mind, really, and besides, I would love to show everyone off at work that I am the boyfriend of the most beautiful person on this damn planet yeah?”
You can’t help but chuckle softly at his words as you keep looking in his eyes.
“So, promise me, next time you need any sorts of help, want me to do something for you, or just want me to be there, you don’t think twice about calling me up okay?” He says softly, pressing a kiss to your forehead.
He can see the reluctancy in your eyes, but you eventually give in and nod.
“Okay, promise,” you murmur, smiling as you wrap your arms around his waist, hugging him tightly. He gladly hugs you back, snuggling his face in your neck as he gently rubs your back.
“So…” you speak up, and he hums back in response, both of you still hugging.
“I’ll take up on that offer right now. I’ll go and shower, and you make something for me to eat yeah?”

ੈ♡˳·˖✶ — MICHAEL KAISER x FEM READER
Kaiser’s always there for you after a failed date. Maybe this time he has something better than advice.
wc — 800
tags — friends to lovers, confession
Tumblr media
“It can’t be that bad.”
“The man I’m dating is a flat earther.”
Kaiser wordlessly pushes his drink towards you in a show of support. You down the glass, relishing the burn as it goes down. It’s wet and cold with condensation, and not an altogether terrible cure to alleviate your headache.
“Any other conspiracy theories he believes in? Maybe tinfoil hats?”
“Kaiser - this is not helping.”
This is a weekly ritual that’s the only constant in your life. You switch jobs often. Shitty boyfriends come and go. But Kaiser and Lunar Love, your favorite local bar, are always the way you end your Friday nights.
You don’t know when the tradition started, but it probably happened sometime between meeting Kaiser when you were working a low-level job for the JPN Football Association and crying into his rock hard shoulder after your sixth failed first date in a row.
Bad things happen during the week. You dump them on Kaiser on Fridays. That’s just how it goes.
You would feel bad, but Kaiser’s really, really terrible at comforting people anyway. Not only is he too muscular to be a good pillow - you still wince recalling how sore your neck had been the morning after you slept on his shoulder - but even his attempts at making you feel better with words sucks.
Guy talked about his ex the whole time?
“Ditch him and leave with the breadsticks.”
It doesn’t matter if you tell him that’s bad advice. Kaiser doesn’t care about normal benchmarks for propriety and manners and social standards. He just does whatever he wants whenever he wants, and he expects you to follow suit.
When your boyfriend of two months had ditched you to watch Kaiser’s football match with his friends, Kaiser had laughed himself silly while you complained to him on the phone later.
“Quit football,” you tell him.
“What, so your lame boyfriend will pay more attention to you? No way!”
“I just don’t get what I’m doing wrong,” you groan.
“It’s not your fault the men you date are assholes - well no, it kind of is. Stop dating assholes, I guess.”
“Don’t blame the victim!”
But then there was the time the man you were meeting for a first date had tried to get you to join his cult.
You had texted Kaiser an SOS under the table as the man and the two other cult recruiters he brought with him (who brings plus ones, much less plus twos to a date?) tried to convince you to give up the life of ‘sin’ you were leading.
You should’ve known he was too hot to be true. That’s how they get you, you think ruefully. Now you’re stuck at this table trying to make excuses for living a life of debauchery when-
“Excuse me,” Kaiser says. “What are you doing with my girlfriend?”
Your head snaps up.
“What are you doing?” You mouth at him.
You look at the cultists. He’s making it worse. Oh, he’s definitely making it worse. One girl has her hand raised to her mouth in shock and horror. Another is actively praying for god to deliver you from evil.
“Come on, honey,” he says, tugging you up from your seat. “It’s time to go home.”
“Miss,” says the original cultist who asked you on the date. He really is cute, with a sweet and earnest face that makes you want to coo over him if he wasn’t actively trying to indoctrinate you. “If you leave now, your soul will never be saved.”
Kaiser makes a face like he’s thinking about doing something very inappropriate for fun, and that’s when you rush out of there. Once you’re on the sidewalk, you slow down, walking hand in hand as you head towards his car. He swings your arm a little.
“One day,” he sighs, “I’m not going to be around to rescue you.”
“No you won’t,” you tell him with a grin. “You love me too much for that.”
“Yeah,” he says with a rueful smile as he opens the passenger door for you. “I do.”
That’s how you know Kaiser really does care about you. He cared enough to show up and rescue you. Maybe not the best way he could’ve done it, but still.
That and the fact that he wouldn’t be paying for twenty dollar cocktails just to hear you whine about your love life if he didn’t care about you, but he’s just not great at showing that love.
Case in point: “Just give up on your shitty dating life,” Kaiser says, rolling his eyes.
“Excuse me?” You say, outraged. “It’s not like people are lining up to date me, mister!”
“Why do you need a line?” He looks annoyed. “I’m right here. I’ve been here all along.”
Tumblr media
Bonus: Kaiser’s name in his contacts for you is “miss unlucky-in-love”. When you start dating, he changes it to “lucky” and forces you to change his to “good luck charm.”

An Attempt, A Failure, A Moment Of Forgiveness
The Demon Brothers x Gender neutral reader
Genre: Fluff, Hurt + Comfort, angst but with a happy ending!
Summary: The brothers have had a particularly hard day, and you decide to make their favorite dinner to cheer them up. Unfortunately, it backfires, and now they’ve accidentally made you upset. It’s their turn to cheer you up instead.
Content/Warnings: Hurt/Comfort, slight angst with a happy ending, sensitive reader, the brothers being uncharacteristically mean due to stress, Beelzebub showing his emotional intelligence, Lucifer has no idea how to apologize
*Asmodeus uses he/she pronouns
*Levi is autistic
Not fully proof read, let me know if you see any errors!
Like my writing? I take requests! NSFW or SFW for any fandoms in my bio!
Also, please reblog! it’s free, takes two seconds, and really helps me out
“Watch it, stupid human!” Mammon hissed as he passed by you in the hall, bumping your shoulder and nearly knocking you to the ground.
“O-Oh, sorry Mammon!” You called after him, but he didn’t even turn back to you.
“Listen here, human,” He growled over his shoulder, “I have five tests I have to get through today and like, a million assignments due tonight, so stay the hell out of my way today, got it?!”
You didn’t even get a chance to respond before he had disappeared around the corner and into a classroom.
You sighed, gaze falling to your shoes as you solemnly made your way to your first period class.
This was not the first of these “mishaps” to happen today.
It seems that all of the brothers had some reason or another to be stressed; they all had important exams scheduled for today, and not to mention their countless other responsibilities outside of school.
Like Satan, who wasn’t supposed to be working after school today but had been booked for a shift anyways because his boss was, as he so elegantly put it, “a huge fucking asshole with no respect for anyone but himself.” The harsh words hadn’t been directed at you, but the icy cold glare he gave you while he said them made it feel that way.
Or Lucifer, who was up to his eyes in paperwork. He wasn’t sure how but it was ten times worse that usual, and each new paper on his desk was another grey hair. His head was pounding with a stress induced migraine that never seemed to really go away. He says he’s had a headache for the past hundred years.
Or Asmodeus, who had a photo shoot directly after school that would run for god knows how long, and she simply could not find a way to squeeze in any homework despite the fact that he was swamped with it at the moment. He was in too deep to cancel the shoot now, which meant his grades would surely suffer. Not to mention that the stress would surely give him acne, which was only making her stress out more!
The entire day it felt like they were rushing past you without so much as a glance, often disrupting you with their franticness and sometimes even rudeness. You knew they didn’t mean it, but it still hurt when Lucifer angrily snapped at you or Satan sent a sarcastic comment your way.
Fortunately, you knew just how to lighten the mood!
Although you didn’t fancy yourself a chef, the brothers always loved when you cooked authentic human food. Even something like mac and cheese was enough to cheer them up after a long day. You decided on a simple pasta recipe, something filling and easy to make for so many people.
You were only halfway through when you heard Lucifer enter the kitchen behind you.
“Oh, Lucifer! I was hoping you’d be a bit later, I have a surprise cooking…”
“What?”
Oh. He didn’t sound nearly as happy as you were hoping.
“W-Well, remember that pasta you all loved? I decided to make it for you! I figured it would take dinner duty off your hands and maybe make you all feel better after such a rough day, so—“
“Human, I already had everything ready for what I was going to make.”
His voice had a slight growl to it, a clear sign of his anger.
“I know,” You sighed, “b-but I thought—“
“Well you thought wrong. My brothers are already expecting the casserole I was going to make, and I already went through the work of prepping and storing the ingredients so I could just throw it together when I got home. Everything’s been so upside down today, I just want this one thing to stay on schedule.”
You really couldn’t blame him for that one. If there was one thing Lucifer hated, it was when plans changed. He needed everything to have an order, and if it didn’t he would get very upset very easily.
“Lucifer, I know you’re stressed, but you’re clearly exhausted. Why don’t you go rest while—“
“No, human!”
Seems that was the final straw. Although it wasn’t rare for Lucifer to get heated when scolding his brothers, he never raised his voice at you like that.
“I don’t care what you think you’re doing, I need you out! You can make your stupid pasta another night. The last thing I need is for you to muck up the one thing that hasn’t already been ruined today, so I suggest you scurry off to your room and stay there!”
You stumbled back, nearly falling before you caught yourself on the counter. You couldn’t look him in the eyes; you couldn’t even stand the thought of being in the same room. You could feel the familiar burning in your throat and the way your chest tightened as the tears began to fill up your eyes and blur your vision. You decided to give him what he wanted, and ran upstairs to your room as fast as you could. You passed Beel on the way, who opened his mouth to greet you but hardly got out a syllable as you rushed past. He could tell something was terribly wrong from the way you hid your face and teary eyes, and the way you slammed your door.
He immediately headed to the kitchen, only to see a half stunned Lucifer staring at the doorway you ran out of. He turned his attention away when he saw Beel, though, pretending that nothing was wrong. When his brother inquired about what had happened, Lucifer merely shrugged. He was overcome with emotion; yes, he felt terrible for scaring you off, but he also had six brothers who needed dinner and so many other tasks to worry about that he couldn’t make himself take pause. He figured he would deal with it later.
You had collapsed beside your bed and hid your face in your knees. You didn’t know what else to do. You’d lost your appetite and certainly didn’t want to go down for dinner, and you didn’t want to bother any of the brothers after everything that had happened. You had tried hard not to be upset and especially not to cry, to tell yourself that he didn’t mean it, but it didn’t matter. The fact that Lucifer would ever treat you that way—that ANY of the brothers would treat you the way they had today—was simply too much.
Beel was the first one to come see you. He knocked about fifteen minutes after you’d first shut yourself in, calling your name and asking if it was okay to enter. All you could muster was a hum in response.
He opened the door slowly, sticking his hand in first and revealing that he was holding a bag of blood strawberry candies. This specific kind were incredibly hard to find, limited edition with special colors, which means that he must’ve pulled them out of his secret stash.
“Hey, you alright?” He asked as he poked his head in, and you gave no response.
“Sorry, stupid question. Can I sit with you?”
You only nodded, scooting over a bit and making room for him.
“Want one?” He held out the open bag to you and shook it.
You reached your hand in and took one, putting it in your mouth without so much as a word. Beel did the same, though he preferred to munch on an entire handful at once. You both sat in silence for a few moments, and Beel didn’t speak until he had swallowed.
“So, wanna talk about it?”
You weren’t really sure. You just shrugged. It would feel nice to get it off your chest, sure, but venting to Beel about how mean he and his brothers had been today would feel terrible, even if Beel wasn’t anywhere near the worst offender.
“…Can I take a guess?”
You nodded once more, slipping your hand into the bag for another few candies.
“Well, I saw Lucifer in the kitchen. He seemed pretty shaken up. Does that have do with it?”
Your silence was all the answer he needed.
“I figured. Look, I…I know we haven’t been the nicest today. I think we all owe you an apology. We’re all stressed and tensions were crazy high, though that’s not an excuse…and I’m sorry for growling at you at lunch. I was really hungry…”
You couldn’t help but giggle at that last part. It was kind of shocking at the time, but you could laugh at it now.
You had many of these kinds of talks with Beelzebub. He was the most emotionally intelligent of the brothers, he just didn’t speak enough to let it on. The truth was he saw and heard everything, he was just better at picking his battles and shutting his trap than the others. Whenever it was just you and him, though, he always found a way to open your eyes. As long as he wasn’t hungry he was calm, cool and collected, and hardly anything bothered him.
“It’s okay, Beel…thank you.”
He sighed in relief when he finally heard you speak. He moved in a bit closer, allowing you to rest your head on his shoulder.
The next one to visit was Mammon, who was not near as subtle has his brother. He came barging in, clearly worried, and had to be shushed by Beel when he yelled your name.
“Shit, sorry…” He muttered, making sure to close the door extra quietly.
“Beel sent a text to the family group chat, are you okay?” Mammon looked you over for a few seconds, and when he didn’t see anything physically wrong, he sat down on the opposite side of you from Beel.
“I’m a little better now, thanks…”
Mammon was silent for a few moments, mouth hanging half open as he tried to find words. Eventually he gave up on words all together, instead reaching into the bag you’d just noticed he brought with him. He pulled out a small bouquet of flowers, all fresh and dewy, and your favorite color too.
“Look, I know I was kind of an ass today…okay, I was a TOTAL ass today—“
He paused to smile at your laughter. Good, he was doing this right.
“—A-And I know this doesn’t make up for it, but I’m not good with words so…I figured I would do better if I could give you something with my apology…”
You gently took the flowers from his hand, taking a deep breath and inhaling their subtle scent. Mammon stared at you expectantly, watching for any sign of disapproval. Fortunately, he found absolutely none.
“Thank you, Mammon. Apology accepted.” You punctuated your sentence with a kiss on his cheek, making his face heat up a bit.
“Hey, can I have one too?” Beel asked through a mouthful of candy, and of course you had to oblige.
The next two were Satan and Asmodeus, who as usual came as a packaged deal.
“Hey love, how are you doing?” Asmodeus asked in a soft tone. When it came to comfort, he was the best in the whole Devildom. Satan trailed in behind him, hugging a book to his chest.
“I’m okay, Asmo.”
“I’m sure you are, but I’m about to make you much better.”
Asmo presented you with a small white box, which he opened to reveal a red velvet cupcake with a heart sugar topper.
“I saw this in the window of a shop today, and I just had to get it for you. A treat as sweet as my human!” She booped your nose playfully before closing the box and setting it to the side.
He took your hand in his gently, stroking your knuckles with his thumb.
“Satan here isn’t much for apologies, so I agreed to do his for him. I am very, so very sorry for how rude I was today, love bug. And Satan is very sorry for being a…what was it? ‘Total fucking asshole?’”
“Watch it, Asmo,” Satan scolded, but his feigned glare quickly turned into a grin at Asmo’s sly giggle.
“It’s okay guys, really. You didn’t have to do all this…” You assured them. You felt sort of guilty to be honest, getting such unusual special treatment from them even if the attention was nice.
“Don’t talk like that love,” Asmodeus replied, “I have no idea what came over us today, but you could at least give us a chance to make up for it.”
“Besides, it’ll give me a chance to make Lucifer look bad, so I’m all in.” Satan joked. He and Asmo both settled in next to you as well.
Leviathan was next, awkwardly standing in the doorway for a few moments before speaking.
“U-Uh, I wasn’t really sure what the state of things would be when I walked in, so—“
He held up the variety of things he had brought, sporting a lopsided smile.
“—I have ear defenders, some chewelry, and that really soft blanket I know you love. Y-You can keep it all for as long as you need.”
Levi knelt in front of you and pushed all the offerings towards you. Your hand hovered over all of them, but eventually you decided on the blanket. You held it close and rubbed it against your face, relishing the blissfully mellow texture and the subtle smell of Levi’s room before wrapping it around yourself.
Levi tried to contain himself, to take time to find the right words the way you’d taught him, but he was so overcome with emotion he couldn’t wait.
“Oh gosh, I’m so sorry!” He blurted out, louder than he meant to be. “Shoot, sorry…I-I don’t mean to yell, I just feel terrible. I didn’t even realize how mean I was being at the time but then I thought about how awful it would feel if you were saying it to me, and—a-and—“
“Shhh, it’s okay Levi. I’ve already forgiven you.”
This stopped him dead in his tracks. He quickly shut his mouth, looking down at the floor in slight embarrassment. You reached a hand up to gently stroke his cheek as you thanked him for the thoughtfulness he had shown.
Belphegor slinked in a minute or so later, yawning as he greeted you.
“Am I late to the party? Sorry, I was asleep. That was the first nap I’ve managed to have all day. Guess that’s why I was being so cranky…”
Belphegor lazily trudged over, his exhaustion clear on his face as he laid his head in your lap.
“Sorry about that, by the way. Hope you didn’t wanna punch my lights out too badly.”
“Oh come now Belphie, I would never.” You argued, reaching down to scratch his head. He stretched and pushed into the touch, sighing with relief when you found just the right spot. He got comfortable very quickly, almost immediately drifting off to sleep.
There was a sizable gap between Belphie’s arrival and Lucifer’s. He had seen the text when it first came out, but tried to ignore it. When no one, not even Beel came down for dinner, though, he knew he had to go see you. He paced around the kitchen for twenty minutes before finally gathering the courage.
The sound of your door opening made everyone freeze as they looked over. Lucifer’s expression was hard to decipher; you couldn’t tell if he was sad, angry, guilty, or all of the above.
He was silent as he walked over, eyes fixated on you even though you were looking anywhere but him. He knelt down in front of you, letting out a breath he didn’t realize he was holding as he started to speak.
“Human…” He began slowly, feeling the eyes of all six of his brothers, scrutinizing every move he made. He sort of deserved it, though. After such a terrible screw up his apology had to be perfect.
“I’ve come to say that I’m…sorry for how I’ve been acting.”
This made you look up with wide eyes. You expected him to beat around the bush, if you’re being completely honest. You’d heard Lucifer “apologize,” sure, but never once actually say “sorry,” his pride wouldn’t let him.
The most surprising part though, was that he kept going.
“I was dismissive of you all day, and on top of that I yelled at you when you were only trying to help because I always need to do things myself. I’m sorry. You deserve better than that—“
He was cut off when you had suddenly wrapped him in a tight hug, squeezing him with all your might. It took him a few moments to process what had happened, but when he did he hesitantly returned the gesture.
“I forgive you, Luci…” You whispered, just loud enough for him to hear.
He patted your back, allowing you to pull away from the hug when you were ready instead of pushing you away. He couldn’t help but gaze into your eyes for a bit longer than he meant to when you withdrew from the hug.
“Alright then,” He began as he stood back up, leaving everyone else quite confused. “We’ve got dinner downstairs that’s going to be cold soon, so how about you all help me bring it upstairs and we’ll eat in here instead?”
“Woah, really?!” Mammon gasped, “You never let us eat in our rooms! Wow, you must feel really shitty!”
This promptly earned him an elbow to the ribs from Asmodeus.
“Don’t worry human, I’ll grab yours for you,” Lucifer said right as you began to stand. “You stay here.”
Each brother gave you a kiss on the cheek as they left, some lingering longer than others. When no one was looking, though, Lucifer pulled you into a real kiss before he too was out the door (though not before flashing you a smile).
You sat there for a while, enjoying the silence and your own company, when you felt your DDD go off. It was a text from Lucifer.
Luci
Hey, just so you know, I got your pasta out of the oven. It was amazing 💙

Taking care // Jessie Fleming
kinda pt. 2 of Protective Moms
Tumblr media
a/n: based off this request.
"Tobs, I can walk on my own" you whined, the striker supporting you. "I have broken nose, nothing more"
"And a serious concussion"
You grumbled but you had no other choice, Tobin wouldn‘t leave your side until your body was laid down in your bed. "Can I at least have my phone back?"
"Ask Christen"
Back at your room you laid down, Tobs placed a glass of water on your nightstand before she tucked you under the duvet. "How shall I ask her when she isn’t here?"
"That‘s not my problem, we‘ll check up on you later." the forward then left the room, ready to go to training. (She tried to tell the coach that she had to watch you and take care of you but as soon as you heard that you argued with her, that you‘re old enough, etc. which she only half-heartedly accepted)
A long sigh left your throat.
-
"Jess is pretty amazing, isn‘t she?" you smiled as you went to breakfast with Chris and Tobs. "She‘s alright" said Tobin while Christen answered, "She’s such a sweetheart." As you had your breakfast on your plate you walked towards the table where Sonnett, Kelley and Alex sat. Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through your head, it throbbed and spun then went black. You passed out.
Everything seemed fine so far, your nose was broken but otherwise nothing to notice from the concussion. Yesterday, Chris, Tobin, Jess and you were out for a 'parents meet kids girlfriend' date and you were your usual self.
Well, until now. The plate shattered across the floor, your body hitting the floor with a 'humpf'. Christen was the first by your side, rapidly and firmly patting your cheek, with no luck in waking you - you were knocked out while Tobin ran around the hotel searching for someone from the physio team, a doc, anyone.
-
That‘s how you ended up for the rest of the day and the next few days in your bed with no phone and no remote to turn the tv on, strict guidelines: Rest, rest, rest! Tobin took the doc very serious, she wouldn‘t risk more damage. The little meet up with your girl was already to much after the knock from Chapman. Even though the moms where at training they made sure you had everything, a bottle of water beside your bed and painkillers next to it, just in case.
Meanwhile Jess was going crazy. Why hadn‘t you replied to her texts? Did the moms forbid you to contact her? Oh god, they didn‘t like her?! She tried to call you over and over, your phone ringing in Chris‘ bag as she was doing drills with her team mates.
"You good, Jess?" Sinc asked the young canadian as she saw how she was biting her lip nervously, her fingers playing with the hem of her hoodie.
"Huh? Yeah! I‘m fine" the midfielder replied. She wasn't convincing so Sinc took a seat beside her. She nudged the shoulder of the young canadian, silently asking what‘s wrong. "She isn‘t answering" she admitted, her ears turning red, "the only text she sent was a good morning which was hours ago"
"So? Maybe she‘s at training?"
"No, no. She has to be in bed because of her concussion"
"Well then, maybe she‘s sleeping" the older woman tried to ease Jessie‘s mind but with no success, she could see that her brain was working on high speed, trying to figure out what‘s wrong. "I just feel like something is off, you know? Like something happened."
The only thing Christine could do now was support her, "If you think someting is off then go to her." a big smile spread across the face of the small canadian "you think?"
"If you don‘t, you have to wait until she answers"
-
Knocking on your door, Jess was nervous. Shortly after her talk with Sinc the midfielder went to your hotel, it took her some time but she made it. She didn‘t know why she was nervous, you were her girlfriend after all yet the thought of an angry Tobin Heath opening the door was scary. Her knock wasn‘t too loud, she didn‘t want to make your headache worse though the knock was loud enough to be heard. "Hello?" you rasped out as you opened the door. "Hi" your girl said, shuffling with her feet.
"What‘re you doing here?" you looked down the hall before you pulled her in to her room. "You didn‘t answer my texts" you chuckled as you placed yourself back on the bed. "I don‘t have my phone," patting the spot next to you to signal her she should join you. "Why?" She asked, taking her shoes off, joining you. Immediately, your head rested on her chest as her arms wrapped around you. "Chris has it and the remote as well. I‘m so bored, you can‘t even imagine," you stated, melting in the embrace of your lover. "I get that, baby, but why?" While lips were pressed against your forehead, you answered, "strict doc rules 'cause I passed out. Tobin is being overprotective" in to her chest, slowly getting tired. The whole day, you‘d been laying around, doing nothing yet couldn‘t sleep but with your lovers arms around the tiredness started to set in. "You passed out?" The midfielder asked shocked, she knew something was off. "Yeah, i‘m alright though, just need to rest" your eyes shutting at the end of your sentence. "I love you" was the last thing you said before you fell in to deep slumber.
Freshly showered, the team got back to the hotel, Chris and Tobs already on her way to your room. As they opened the door and stepped in to the room, they could see the brunette you were hugging, both of you deep and fast asleep. Christen laughed softly; the two of you couldn‘t be away from each other. Even Tobin smiled, seeing you like this. Normally, she would have gone all protective but something in her was telling her that she was seeing the right thing, Jess was the right 'thing'
"They‘re adorable" said person stated, slinging her arm around the dark haired women who could only agree.
Sleeping in your lovers arms will always be the best kind of recovery.

oops... i got married || TO MY COLLEGE PROF???
Tumblr media
word count: 2.6k || Fic 1 of oops... i got married
summary: There is no way you just woke up married to your college prof. God. At least he's hot?
Tumblr media
You get married as a joke.
Yes, there are limits to how much you can drink. Yes, there are limits to how insane you can get while drunk— but apparently getting married is not within that limit. You get married to some random guy— NOT SOME RANDOM GUY. YOU GET MARRIED TO YOUR COLLEGE PROFESSOR. You wake up to a legally signed marriage document and your college professor in your kitchen, and you blink at the red booklet in your hands and then at your professor at the door.
"You're going to be late for class."
"Oh. My. God." You hold your head as a headache splits you open. "that hurts."
Cael steps next to you, bowl of soup in his hand, and you blink at him.
"Oh my god."
"You've say that once already." He mumbles, holding the spoon to your lips after he blows on it. "Drink up."
You open your mouth to drink, still blinking in mild confusion when you finish the soup, brain only processing then whether or not you have clothes on. You touch yourself, sighing in relief when you notice that it's just a change of pajamas. It would be the end of the world... or, well, it wouldn't. You suppose there are worse situations than getting married to your hot professor... wait. Should there be an age gap tag on this?!
You take Cael's hand as he helps you up, and he blinks at you, tilting his head.
"Come on. You have class."
"Isn't it Saturday?"
"It's Monday."
"Don't we get Monday off?"
"That was last Monday."
You scream, blinking at the clock, taking your clothes from Cael's hand (you have no idea when he got the clothes) and change, rushing out of the house as Cael locks the door behind you, following behind you as you rush through the college gates. Cael nods at the security guard— something that the two of you live in a pattern of regardless of whether or not you're married. You find it strange. Yes, you would not have asked Cael to marry you while sober, but it's also questionable. You wonder in what universe you fall for a man several times your age and ask him to marry you while plastered.
"So? Did you do anything after last night?" William brushes up next to you, peeking over your shoulder at you. "I saw someone bring you home. Lowkey, he was kind of hot. His hair was up and everything."
"Yeah." You pause. For the plot? For the plot. "I got married to him."
"WHAT." William screams, and the professor raises a brow in annoyance at him, making him sink back into his seat. "You got married to some random man!?"
"Yeah..." You avert your gaze. "I'll tell you in a bit. Let me take notes—"
"You never take notes!" William gasps. "No fucking way."
"Someone's going to beat my ass if I go home without any notes again." You avoid Cael's gaze from the front of the lecture hall, and go back to clicking on your laptop. "you know?"
"Oh my god." William blinks. "Please tell me I did not just put two and two together. Is this your only lecture of the day? Are you going home with your husband later?!"
"I don't know what you're talking about." You avoid the topic, choosing to ignore William for the rest of the lecture, and bolting for the door as soon as class is dismissed. William yells at you for being a coward and to face him, and you rest by the car as you wait for Cael to return. You sit in the car, resting your head on the wheel with a groan as you click through your phone. At some point, you grow tired, eyes growing heavy as you decide to doze off. You wonder where Cael is... you have a feeling that he's going to get here the second you knock out. You blink slowly, and then stare at Cael's face leaning over the door of your car.
You roll the window down after jumping in your skin.
"Why didn't you knock?!" You panic, eyes wide as you let Cael into the car. "What if you got caught?!"
"Caught by who? My fanclub?" He holds up a bag with drinks in it, humming. "Come on. I'll heat up the milk tea for you when we get home. Don't even think about touching it while it's cold."
"It's not cold!" You gape in faux offense. "I can drink it! Who did you even get it from?"
"My fanclub." He hums, pulling a drink out and stabbing a straw through it. "Drink up."
You take it from his hand as he secures his seatbelt, starting the car as you pause. "So... are we going to talk about being legally married?"
"We can talk about that at home." Cael hums. "Want me to drive?"
"No. It's my car." You grumble, driving out the parking lot as you wait to merge onto the street. "What exactly happened?"
"You got plastered and somehow managed to convince me to sign the marriage certificate you were holding up." Cael pauses. "I was also partially drunk."
"You drank? Who drove us home?"
"We rode the subway."
"Damn." You mumble. "That's crazy. I can't believe you said yes. I would've expected you to say no."
"Well..."
"..." You pause, slowing down at the red light. "drunk man words are sober man thoughts."
"Don't say that to me."
"Oh my god." You mumble. "You're in love with me."
Cael chooses to stay quiet, and you reach over to grab his thigh, laughing as you step on the gas.
"My husband is in love with me!!!" You laugh, squeezing him affectionately as you continue to drive. "Does that mean you won't get divorced with me?"
There's a considerable silence before he speaks up. "Did you think I was going to divorce you?"
"Maybe." You mumble. "Just a little."
"I wouldn't have agreed had I not liked you to some extent." He mumbles, resting his hand on top of yours.
"Oh." You pause, another considerable silence passing over the two of you. You blink slowly even when the two of you reach your apartment, and suddenly, it's almost as if his words have just clicked. He likes you. Your college professor likes you. Wait.
"There's got to be some sort of questionable age gap between the two of us." You deadpan.
Cael raises a brow, and you pout. "You're in your last year."
You pause. "True... but you better have not liked me for four years. Isn't it weird to fall for a student anyway? Or did you fall for me because we're neighbors?"
"A mixture of everything." He hums, resting his forehead on yours. "If you keep talking, I may just not cook dinner."
"I can live with instant noodles."
"I can't." He pinches your skin gently. "Shall we have dinner?"
You find that being married to Cael is fun. You get to watch him grade everyone's tests and snoop through his stacks of papers and laptop to see whether or not you can find the next test's answers, and your answer is almost always the same file with a password you can never crack in time before Cael inevitably finds you trying to cheat again. You wonder why he doesn't just report you to the dean, but you don't find it in yourself to care, lips pulled into a pout as he tells you to just study. Easy for him to say.
Maybe he's so old that he just forgot that senioritis happens in college too.
Yet, he cares in his own way, warm drink next to you as you work through the copious amount of work that you're given in your upper-division courses, head spinning and annoyed over everything. He points out mistakes in your paper, glasses resting on the bridge of his nose, lashes batting slowly as he corrects your essays with a click of his tongue. You pout at him when he does, but he does not make any change in habit. As long as you get a good grade, you suppose.
Then, your grade comes back, and you are set to graduate.
You rush home to show Cael the grade on your phone, arms thrown around him as you beam. He runs his hand down your back affectionately, lips pressed to the temple of your head sweetly as he congratulates you. You hum, head resting on his shoulder as you hum. "I should pay you back."
"How about wearing a ring?"
"We have these." You pout at the cheap one on your finger.
"We both know I can afford to buy you a better one." He hums, playing with the ring on your finger. "Shall we go ring shopping in celebration?"
"How is that me paying you back?"
"You're paying me back by spending more time with me." He hums. "That is my request. Let us go buy a ring together."
"Is that all?" You hum.
"We can spend the rest of the day shopping too."
"Alright..." You mumble. "We should go shopping for your clothes. Your wardrobe needs a little updating."
"Yeah?"
"And don't fight me for the bill on your clothes."
"Is that how you're going to pay me back?"
"Yep." You pop the p for emphasis, pressing a kiss to his cheek as you hop off his lap. "We'll take my car so we don't need to haul shopping bags back on the subway."
"Very well."
Cael sits back and lets you pick his outfits, your thoughts put before his as you discuss with the store clerk how to make him the hottest man on campus. He wonders if you just simply don't have a single jealous bone in your body. He doesn't like it when people get too close to you. His brows furrow ever so slightly as your hand brushes the store clerk's when you take the outfit, and you furrow your brows slightly as you stare at the clothes and then at Cael.
"I don't want this color of tweed."
"What are you looking for?"
"Something like... classic. Beige. Picture beige baby but there is no baby and it's my husband." You pause. "Make him the hot guy in a trenchcoat at the campus coffee shop."
"I see the vision." The clerk gives you a thumbs up. "Just wait and see, young'in. We've got this."
You wave bye to Cael with a smile on your face, sitting in the waiting area as you scroll through your phone. You take photos and give a thumbs up and down depending on how good he looks in the clothes, and Cael finds that despite his stamina, he understands why you had looked so drained after shopping with him all those times. It's not that his body is tired— it's just that he can only wear so many outfits in such limited time.
On the last one, he opens the curtain of the dressing room, and your whole face perks up.
Ah. This one. You like this one the best.
"Shall we buy this one?" Cael raises a brow.
"I don't care if my scholarship money is going down the drain for this." You rip the tag from behind him as he crouches down slightly to help you rip it easier, and you scan and ring up the bill. He watches as you swipe your card without second thought, the vast majority of what he tried on going into bags as you carry them. Cael presses his lips to your forehead gently as a thank you, and you grin.
"Shall we get something to eat? My treat." He hums.
"Not the rings?"
"I called my associate at another store." Cael hums. "I can take some of the bags—"
"No." You pout. "Let me."
"Well, I suppose it is a skill for you to be able to hold so many at once." He laughs. "Would you like a treat?"
"I'd like my ring." You bat your lashes at him with a grin. "I'll drive."
"Alright." He follows behind you, coat still on, hot on your trail as the two of you wait in the elevator to get down to the right level. He helps you open the trunk, and you hum happily.
"Did you order a ring?"
"They're going to get you fitted." He hums. "And then you're going to pick a design out of all the ones I sketched out."
"Oooh..." You shut the trunk. "Romantic."
"Perhaps it would have been more romantic to actually propose with it."
"Well, we get a good story out of it." You smile at him as the two of you get in the car.  "What color is the ring going to be?"
"I've sketched it in every color you can think of."
"There is no way you did that."
He did.
You stare at the samples and then at the sketches Cael provided, and you blink slowly at your husband.
"You pick."
The clerk gapes as Cael picks up the rings and tries them on you one at a time. He would get you all of them, but you would complain that it's a waste of his money. Though, he wouldn't really be spending much. He wonders when the next cheque for displaying his works is going to come in. That should be more than enough to cover the costs of the rings.
"Why not all?"
"I'm not comfortable with spending all of that money yet." You deadpan.
"Better get used to it." He hums. "These three."
You stare at the designs he picked, and he hums. "Turn these two into earrings instead."
"A pair or one of each?"
Cael glances at you, lips quirking up at the sight of your dropped jaw.
"One of each?" You blink at him in confusion. "One of each. Mix and match sounds fun."
Cael nods as the store clerk punches in the order. "Anything else you would like, sir?"
Cael shakes his head.
"Wait, how about your wedding ring?"
"Oh, they have their counterparts." Cael flips the paper over, and your jaw drops.
"Double the price?"
"Don't worry about it." He hums, tapping his card on the machine and covering your eyes.
"Oh, hey." You hum. "You finally figured out how to use a credit card?"
"Debit." He hums. "I had an account because they were paying me, but I just never applied for a card."
"Oh." You pause. "YOU'RE USING A DEBIT CARD?! HOW MUCH MONEY DO YOU EVEN HAVE?!"
"How old am I?"
You shut up after that.
Not arguing with a man who's older than the existence of the planet you're on. (a joke, really. He's only a decade or two older than you. Though, he definitely doesn't look it.) So, you stare at the ring on your ears in the mirror two weeks later, Cael's matching one on his pierced ear, leaning behind you, chest pressed to your back as he stares at the earring on your ear.
"Looks nice."
"Yeah?" Your neck creeps with warmth, and he presses his lips to your ear gently, standing straight again as the clerk hands him the bag with the earrings.
"Shall we get going, beloved?"
Your hand shakes as you take his, and you try and calm your racing heart.
Oh, god. This might've been the best decision you've ever made while drunk. ever.

WIBTA for completely ignoring a very long and thought-out apology message?
TL;DR: Abusive ex sent me apology after two years of silence and I’m not sure I want to acknowledge it.
So I was in a very abusive relationship with my ex for around a year. I’m going to try not to go into too much detail, but I tend to ramble and this is a hard topic for me so I’m sorry in advance if this ends up super long.
When we started dating, it was great for the first six months or so. I noticed certain things that made me question if she could have BPD (intense jealousy, sudden mood switches, impulsivity, self-destructive behaviour) and encouraged her to speak to her therapist about it. She eventually did and was diagnosed with BPD, but she wasn’t able to get on medication for another few months. After that, everything seemed to just… completely spiral. She started to control who I could speak to (I was only allowed to be with friends for an hour, and if I was even a few minutes late she’d be blowing up my phone accusing me of cheating etc. and ignoring me for days), she wanted me to cut off every friend who didn’t like her or warned me about the relationship and would accuse me of disrespecting boundaries if I objected, she would shout at me 24/7 (e.g. we’d be talking fine, she’d tell me she had a headache, I’d say I was sorry, and she’d suddenly be yelling that she didn’t need my pity and that I was patronising her), she constantly tracked where I was and who I was with, she lied to me constantly about things both major and minor, and by the end of it she was physically aggressive. This eventually culminated in her cheating on me, me giving her another chance (zoinks), and her cheating on me again less than a month later with a man she knew had SA’d me in the past. After that I just couldn’t take it anymore and finally got the courage to leave.
This unfortunately made everything worse. She split on me - basically a BPD thing where your opinion on someone goes from love to hate or vice versa in an instant - and she made it her mission to make my life hell. For almost a year and a half after our breakup, she was sending things to my house, to my family’s houses, she was stalking my social medias and sending me death threats from burner accounts, all of her own social medias became solely dedicated to talking about me, and then the worst part - she knew I wanted to go to college to become a primary (elementary) school teacher, and so she called up the college I was going to attend and told them I was a pedophile. She went all out with this accusation and was posting it all over Twitter, messaging my friends, getting her friends to post it - it was crazy. Thankfully it did not actually affect my education because I explained what was going on and I had evidence that things she was saying happened were false, but it was a super terrifying and stressful time.
While that was going on, she used the fact I was an SA victim against me - at one point she told me to “shut up and go get raped again”, and another Tweet she made accusing me of being a pedophile was followed up with “Shame you’ll never get that teaching job, I hear they’re not so kind to people like you in prison”.
Making everything more confusing is the fact that every few months it’s like she’d switch back - she’d send me an apology message, tell all her friends it was a lie, get back in contact with me and tell me she was on meds and going to therapy and everything was getting better, and then a few weeks later she’d be posting about how abusive I was again and blocking me everywhere. It felt like there was nothing I could do - if I ignored it, she’d step it up to get a reaction, and if I did acknowledge it, she’d step it up anyway because I was reacting.
Finally, FINALLY, I threatened to get a restraining order and everything stopped.
Almost two years pass and nothing. I’m now happily engaged to a wonderful girl who was my best friend throughout that whole relationship and knew exactly how affected I was by it. I’m going to therapy, was diagnosed with PTSD, and have been slowly moving on. I still have nightmares about her, and sometimes things will get me (e.g. a few months ago I saw someone who looked like her on TV unexpectedly and had a panic attack), but things are good. Much better. I was thinking of it all much less, I wasn’t dedicating energy to it, I wasn’t even angry or upset anymore, it was just a past lesson I’d learned and didn’t need to worry about anymore.
Then last week I wake up to a message. Again, it’s been two years.
Now, this message was LONG. It was from my ex, apologising for everything she’d done. It was a genuinely nice message and clearly had a lot of thought in it. She said she knew it was selfish to message me when I’d moved on but that she had things to say for her own peace of mind. She said she was happy to see I was engaged, that she’s done a lot of self-reflecting and healing. She said she tried to date again and ended up “karma’d “ - that the relationship was scarily similar to ours but with her in my shoes this time - and that it had made her realise just how disgusting her actions had been and how badly she’d fucked me up. She made it clear she wasn’t looking for forgiveness or to reconnect, just to apologise.
Part of me is mildly skeptical because of the fact she’d apologised multiple times before and it never stuck, but the two year gap and the way it’s phrased makes me believe this is truly genuine. She seems to have matured and changed as a person.
Thing is, I just… can’t bring myself to respond. Every time I go to do it, I remember things she said or did to me and just can’t. I feel like if I just responded and said no hard feelings and explicitly told her I have moved on and am doing better, I could give her the same closure that this apology might eventually give me. It would be closing this chapter for good for both of us and I could just never think about her again.
And yet I just. Haven’t. I’m scared to open the window of communication again in any way, I’m scared it’ll be taken back, I’m scared that this will take me back to square one because she’s put herself back in my life (even tangentially) and now I’m thinking about her again after so long of trying so hard to heal.
So WIBTA if I just… didn’t acknowledge it? If I let her essentially wonder forever it it was ever seen or read because I just don’t know what to do about it, even if I’m potentially keeping closure from her for my own comfort?
What are these acronyms?

— gorgeous, look at your face !
y/n didn't really want to meet up with neteyam today, still revelling in her heartbreak from the night before. she had never been able to handle rejection well, especially not from the man she had been slightly obsessing over for the past month almost. she felt like the thrill had expired, that life had come to give her a rude wake up call and neteyam friend zoning her was the alarm.
she knew that it would be unfair to not study with neteyam just because of her silly crush, so she picked herself up, brushed herself off and headed to the library to meet neteyam.
he could tell that something was off with y/n. she wasn't smiling as much as usual, her cheeks were blushing like they usually did when they spoke. she seemed less invested in their conversations today, as if today was a chore for her- maybe it was.
"are you feeling okay?" he couldn't help his curiosity. y/n only looked up briefly to meet his eyes before looking back down at her notebook.
"yeah," she nodded with pursed lips, "just tired," a lie.
"do you feel sick still?" he was concerned, neteyam knew that she was in a bad state last night- he wondered if she was feeling worse throughout the day. he knew hangovers could come with vengeance.
"uh, yeah a little bit," y/n shrugged it off.
that was how they sat for the next hour. neteyam trying his best to speak to y/n, her responding with short sentences. neteyam was lots of things, beautiful, kind and completely oblivious. so he chalked her bad mood up to drinking too much the night before and a sore stomach or pounding headache.
"neteyam!" y/n couldn't help but turn around upon hearing such a loud voice in a quiet space. a'korai walked over to the pair at the table.
"hey," neteyam kept his voice down still, considerate of their environment, "what's up?"
"just came over to see you," she smiled. y/n had never seen this girl before, but they way she ignored her presence already had her first impressions ruined. neteyam noticed her ignorance towards y/n, so he tried to do what he did best- make peace.
"a'korai, this is y/n" neteyam smiled. a'korai finally shot a glance in y/n's direction.
"hi," she smiled briefly.. and that was it, she was back talking to neteyam. y/n listened to their conversation with a sigh, tapping her pencil on the table impatiently, waiting for this random girl to get the hint. it was already bad having to see neteyam after being friend zoned by him, but to watch some pretty girl throw herself all over him was a punch to the face.
"it's getting late," y/n interrupted getting up from her seat, "I better go get dinner from the hall before they pack it away," she shoved her things away into her backpack. neteyam looked up at y/n with an apologetic gaze, knowing they didn't get as much done as they would've liked. "see you later, neteyam" she walked away.
neteyam sighed with his eyes closed, y/n had already walked away before he could even say goodbye to her. left with a'korai talking to him when he wished it was another.

Hey ,hope you are doing okay. I wanted to request a taehyung × reader where she gets hurt or something when he was on tour but she tries to hide it from her but he finds out eventually. angsty with happy ending
Here you go. I hope you like it!!
I’m Alway Worried About You
Tumblr media
This is not how you planned your Tuesday night going. Thankfully the emergency room wasn’t too packed and they were able to get you seen pretty quickly. “Okay Y/N. It seems you have a bad case of pneumonia. Everything will be okay and you’ll make a full recovery but we do want to keep you for the next 24 hours to give you some breathing treatments and make sure it doesn’t get any worse.”, the doctor advises you. You simply nod your head in agreement and watch as we walks out the door.
“You should really call Taehyung and let him know what’s going on.”, your best friend speaks up. “No I can’t do that. He’s on tour and he’ll freak out. He’ll be on the next plane back.”, you say shanking your head. She laughs, “And that would be a bad thing why? It’s obvious he loves you.” “I know he does but he’s already given up so much for me. I don’t want him to get in trouble. Plus the doctor said I’ll be fine so there’s no reason he ever has to find out about this.”, you reply. After convincing your friend that you’d be okay and didn’t need her to spend the night you said goodbye and settled in for the night.
The following morning you woke up extremely tired and with a massive headache. When the doctor told you that you’d be getting breathing treatments you didn’t think he meant every hour. You just finished yet another treatment when your phone started vibrating on the table next to you. Checking the screen you saw Taehyungs name flashing. You’d already ignored two of his calls so you knew if you did it a third time he’d have someone looking for you so you had no choice but to answer.
“Hello”
“There you are Y/N! I was getting worried.”
“I’m sorry Tae. I was in the shower.”
“It’s okay. How are you? I miss you so much!”
“Aww babe I miss you too! How much longer until you get back?”
“Umm like two weeks.”
“Oh that’s not too ba-“
You’re cut off before you can finish. “Here you go Miss. These are your discharge papers. The dr will be in shortly to give your lungs one final listen.”, the nurse says before turning and walking away. You’re glad they weren’t currently checking your blood pressure because the machine definitely would’ve blown up. You were praying Taehyung didn’t hear that but before you even continue he asks,
“Discharge papers and doctor? Y/N are you okay?”
“Yeah I’m fine Tae. It was in the drama I’m watching on tv. The female lead was in the hospital.”, you said hoping he buys the lie.
“Alright. Well I have to get going. I’ll talk to you later. I love you Y/N.”
“I love you too Tae. Be safe! Tell the boys I say hi.”
After the call ended you let out a long sigh thankful that he didn’t ask any more questions. The doctor came in shortly after and checked your breathing. He said you still sounded a little sick but much better than yesterday. He gave you a prescription for an inhaler to use if you felt like your breathing was getting worse and signed off on your discharge. Your best friend was waiting in the lobby to take you home.
The next couple weeks went by fast. Every day you felt a little stronger and you only had to use the inhaler twice. Today was an exciting day because Taehyung was finally coming home after being gone for the last couple months. As soon as he walked in the door you ran and jumped into his arms, “I missed you so much Tae.” He spun you around the living room before giving you a kiss, “I missed you too Y/N.”
After spending some time catching up you both realize that you’re starving and decide to check out a new restaurant that just opened up. The meal was great. Taehyung told you all about the tour. He showed you all of the pictures and videos he took. You couldn’t stop the smile that was on your face. As the two of you made your way back home you held his hand close, just happy that he was finally there. You both walked from the car over to the elevator ready to get upstairs and cuddle and watch the newest drama everyone keeps talking about. You went to press the button on the elevator when you noticed a big yellow sign taped to the doors ‘Out Of Service. Please Take the Stairs. Sorry For The Inconvenience’.
Taehyung scoffs next to you, “For how much we pay to live here you’d think they could keep everything in working order.” You nod in agreement but have no choice but to take the stairs. Luckily your apartment is only on the fifth floor but it’s still quite a few stairs to take. With each staircase it gets harder and harder to breathe. Taehyung notices, “Are you okay Y/? We can take a break.” You shake your head, “No this is just a reminder that I have to start working out more.” The two of you continue up and finally reach your floor. You never thought you’d be so happy to see the tacky green carpet of the hallway leading to your apartment.
Now it seems that with each step your lungs are getting weaker and weaker. Sure you’re not the most physically fit person but you’ve never been this exhausted before. Then you remembered how the doctor told you that your lungs could be weaker for the next couple months as they fully recover from the pneumonia and that’s why he gave you the inhaler. You had stuffed the inhaler in the back of your nightstand drawer thinking you’d never need it again and wanted to make sure Taehyung never found it.
“Y/N are you sure you’re okay? You don’t look that good.”, he says pushing open the door to your apartment. You try to respond but realize you don’t have enough breath in your lungs to speak. You start to panic and begin pointing at your chest. “What’s wrong? Do I need to call for an ambulance? Y/N, try to breathe.”, he says clearly upset. Still unable to speak you start briskly walking back to your bedroom, Taehyung following close behind. Once you get to your nightstand you start pulling out item after item throwing them on the floor until you get to what you’re looking for. The navy blue inhaler. Quickly you follow the directions and push down inhaling the medicine and holding your breath. You Wait 10 seconds and do it again. After another 10 seconds you take one more inhale. Closing your eyes you sit on the bed and wait for the medicine to take effect.
Thankfully it only takes a couple minutes for the medicine to start working and slowly you can feel your lungs taking in more air. When you finally open your eyes you search for Taehyung and see him standing in front of you with wide eyes. “Y/N, what’s going on? We’ve been together for five years and you never told me you had asthma and I’ve never seen you use an inhaler.”, he asks with hints of fear and anger in his voice.
Taking another deep breath you grab his hand and pull him next to you. You decide it’s best to come clean. “I don’t have asthma. A few weeks ago I was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia. They gave me this inhaler but I didn’t think I’d need it so I didn’t bring it and I’ve been feeling much better but I think taking all of those stairs overworked my lungs. I’m sorry if I scared you.”, you said unable to look at him. “Of course you scared me Y/N. I thought you were dying. Why didn’t you tell me you were in the hospital? That’s not fair to keep something like that from me.”, he said trying but failing to hide the anger in his voice. “I’m sorry Tae. The doctor said I was going to be fine. If it was something serious I would’ve called you. I just didn’t want you to worry about me.”, you said squeezing his hand.
Taehyung lifted your chin so you were looking at him, “Y/N, I’m always worried about you when I’m not with you. I worry if you’re safe, if you’re healthy, if you’re happy, if you’re eating and sleeping well. Just like you’re always worried about me. If something happens and I’m not here I need to know about it. Even if it’s a paper cut you got while opening the mail. Even if I’m on the other side of the world. Promise me if something ever happens again you will call me, no matter what.” You nod and kiss his cheek, “I promise. I’m sorry.”
He gives you a big boxy smile, “Good. Now let’s clean up and then meet me on the couch. We’ve got a whole drama to binge watch in one night so we better get started.” You laugh and begin placing things back in the drawer except for the blue inhaler you can’t seem to find anywhere. Panic sets in until you see Taehyung in the living room holding the inhaler and talking on the phone. You bite your lip trying to hide the smile that forms as you hear him say, “Yes the prescription is for Mrs.Y/N Kim. I was wondering what would be needed to be able to get enough of these inhalers to put one in every room of the house and to have one on me at all times.” You laugh at his concern. You know they’d never give you enough to do that but for the time being you’ll let him have this moment and you feel your heart swell at how much he loves and cares about you.

a/n: self indulgent fic today because i've been borderline sick these days and i literally cannot afford to be sick right now (so i'm pushing my illness onto MC)
content: mammon's not great at taking care of sick people, but he'd do it for you anyway.
non-established relationship. pining mammon. sick fic.
fluff. comfort. mammon × gen!reader. 1k words.
Tumblr media
the first sign was the persistent headache that had been following you since the night before. of course, not wanting to miss your classes at RAD, you blamed it on the combination of too much caffeine and not enough rest. you practically dragged yourself to RAD, ignoring the second sign of dizziness while you walked. by the end of your first class, your headache had grown into a full blown migraine, much to your disappointment. you didn't even register the fact that the lecture had ended until mammon had his face hovering dangerously close to yours.
"oi, human. why's your face all red?"
you groaned and waved him away from you, slowly starting to pack away your things. "it's not red," you muttered.
mammon drew back with a click of his tongue, hands on his hips while he looked you up and down. "liar," the demon retorted, poking at your forehead. "jeez, you're all hot too. this doesn't feel normal."
"maybe i've just always been hot." you hissed at mammon's hand, the touch on your forehead hard enough to send the room spinning.
mammon scoffed at you, shoving his hands into his pockets while turning to leave the classroom. "i didn't mean it like that- stop thinking weird stuff!"
you would have laughed if you had the energy, but with the way your head was pounding, you didn't have it in you to do anything. with shaky legs, you pushed yourself up out of your chair, trying your best to stumble towards the doorway. you crashed into doorframe with a loud thud, landing on the floor seconds later with your head in your hands. despite your blurry vision, you saw the white haired demon rushing back towards you, his panicked voice ringing in your ears. "mammon?"
"what the hell's wrong with ya?!"
when you felt him crouch in front of you, you acted without thinking straight (not that you really could), reaching up to wrap your arms his neck. "don't feel good," you mumbled into his shoulder, slumping against his torso.
"oh, now you're admitting it," mammon growled at you. "and stop clinging to me!"
you shook your head as much as you could without making it hurt worse. "you're too loud, my head hurts."
the avatar of greed inhaled deeply, stopping himself from shouting any more. "why'd i have to be put in charge of ya in the first place?" begrudgingly, mammon hoisted you up into his arms, one arm locked under your knees and the other close to your waist. the last thing you heard before knocking out was mammon calling for one of his brothers down the hall.
when mammon finally made it back to the house of lamentation, he debated kicking the door off its hinges just to get inside, but quickly changed his mind when he remembered he still owed lucifer money for the last time he did it. he was also afraid he'd wake you up in the process, but that wasn't a real reason, he had told himself. instead, mammon shifted you in his arms so he had just enough leeway to turn the doorknob. he repeated the same process when he got to your bedroom, finally clicking the door open and shuffling over to place you down on your bed. after making sure you were still breathing, mammon turned away, ready to leave. he wasn't good with taking care of others, let alone a sick human; but when he took another look at you, dishevelled and almost helpless, mammon felt something in his stomach churn. the demon began his way back to your side, tentative fingertips brushing away the hairs that had started to stick to your forehead.
mammon frowned at the feeling, knowing that you usually never ran this hot. he only knew that because he poked at you often, and not because he had tried (and failed) to hold your hand on multiple occasions. the eldest brother had ordered mammon to come back to RAD if nothing else needed to be done, but mammon decided that maybe the human needed his care just this once.
he wasn't confident in his abilities, but he had seen what to do once while watching an anime over leviathan's shoulder. and so, mammon left your room for a few minutes, returning with a bucket of cool water and a small towel in hand. as carefully as he could, he pushed you further onto your bed so he could sit on the edge by your side. the towel, now damp, was placed onto your forehead moments after, accompanied by mammon draping a blanket over your now trembling figure. "what's your deal, getting sick all of a sudden…" mammon talked to himself every few minutes, constantly replacing the towel as it needed to be replaced. "get better already so we can go hit the casino. or somethin'." internally, mammon wished he was better at enchantments so that he wouldn't have to keep switching out the towel. the idea that satan or lucifer would be better at taking care of you made his blood boil.
the longer he stared at your face, the more his own heated up, the blush on his cheeks beginning to match yours. "so rude, ya won't even talk to me right now. if ya think getting sick gives ya an excuse, it doesn't. just so ya know!"
softly, the pads of his fingertips began to wander along your face, tracing your jaw and dancing over your cheeks lightly. a part of mammon had always wondered what it'd be like to hold your face in his hands. with a sigh, mammon pulled the towel off your forehead and dipped it into the bucket.
"it's not fair, human," he said under his breath, swirling the water with a hand. "when did i start wanting you more than anything else?"
he gazed at you longingly, setting the cloth down on your bedside table before scooting closer to you. slowly, he leaned in towards you, taking a shaky breath for courage before pressing his lips to the crown of your head. being greed incarnate, mammon wanted more of this, more of you, but he held back, not wanting to ruin what he had with you already. he pulled away from you, but couldn't get far before leaning down again and pressing his forehead to yours.
"one day," mammon murmured onto your skin, stroking your cheek delicately as he placed the towel back in its rightful place.

After Chaeyoung hadn't stopped sneezing and blowing her nose since she arrived soaking wet from the rain the previous afternoon, they decided that canceling their Sunday date would be the best option. Their visit to the botanical park has now been replaced by a day at home watching movies. The exam period is coming, so it was reasonable to make Chaeyoung stay at home so she doesn’t get worse. It takes them some time to decide, as the younger one felt guilty because they had already bought tickets, but Mina manages to convince her girlfriend to stay on the couch with a blanket, tea and a box of tissues beside her while she goes out to buy medicine, her favorite snacks and some ingredients to make miso soup.
"I'll take good care of you" is the last thing she says before kissing Chaeyoung’s lips and leaving the apartment.
She would be lying if she said she isn’t surprised to see that when she's back in their apartment, her girlfriend is still in the same place where she left her half an hour ago, only now she has a book in her hand instead of the mug of tea that now sits empty on the living room table. As Chaeyoung focuses on her book, she places everything she got in the kitchen and grabs her Nintendo to continue building and decorating her Animal Crossing island on the other side of the couch. Moments like this are the favorites for both of them, they just need each other's company as they spend time enjoying their hobbies in a comfortable silence.
They are both introverts who enjoy spending time at home playing video games, reading, drawing, writing, assembling Lego sets or watching movies. It's something they've always enjoyed separately, and since Chaeyoung accepted Mina's proposal to move into her apartment, it's become something they do together. Now, across the room, across the couch or using the other Nintendo Switch controller, they have someone with whom they share playful glances, smiles, exchange thoughts, talk about their days at work or college, about lives or share their problems. In moments like these, they just need to feel each other's presence. For them to be in silence doing their own thing while intertwining their legs under the blanket doesn't feel much different from a date outside in a nice place.
It's these things that make Mina wonder if they'll always feel this way or if it's a passing thing that will end when she gets used to living with Chae. Meanwhile, on the other side of the couch, Chaeyoung underlines the sentences in the book that remind her of Mina and thinks that she stay in this moment all her life without ever getting tired of seeing Mina in front of her focus on her videogames with the tip of her tongue sticking out, concentrating on the game, just like she does when she cooks a new recipe or when she prepares some presentation for work.
An hour later, Chae puts the book away, takes off her glasses and holds the bridge of her nose with two fingers "I can't focus, I have a headache" she complains, making Mina sit up immediately "Let me get you a glass of water so you can take a painkiller". Chaeyoung gestures for her to get back to sit with her. "Don't worry, I think I just need to get some sleep" she says as her girlfriend looks at her with a doubtful face "I promise I'll take it if my headache doesn't go away" she replies, earning an indulgent smile from Mina.
As soon as her girlfriend falls asleep on the couch she goes to the kitchen to make some miso soup, lunch for both of them and looks up movie recommendations on her phone while waiting for the water to start boiling. And of course, tea is a must.
It seems that sleep was good for Chae because when she wakes up, she seems to be in a better mood and even a bit more talkative, so they spend lunch talking about what movie they should watch. When they’re done, Mina takes care of clearing the table and cleaning the dishes despite Chaeyoung's refusal when her girlfriend tells her to brush her teeth and go back to the couch.
"Mina-chan!" she whines. "It's just a cold, don't treat me like I'm dying. Let me help you."
"Your exams are coming up and you and I both know that if you get sick now, you'll only be more anxious because you won't be able to do as much as you'd like. At least one of us has to be responsible" Mina says, giving her a scolding look, and Chaeyoung has no choice but to nod her head and follow her directions.
Mina doesn't have to explain herself for her girlfriend to get the message since the cold is due more to Chaeyoung being careless than to the sudden rain of the previous day. In the morning, when the gray clouds covered the Seoul sky and didn't let even a ray of sunshine show, they both commented that good rains were on the way and they hoped that at least it wouldn't be so heavy as to spoil their Sunday date. Exactly that date in which both should now be holding hands, smelling the fragrance of the flowers and taking a thousand photos and maybe, in the case of the art student, doing some sketches or drawings. And despite this, and despite Mina's recommendations, Chaeyoung decided to go out without an umbrella, arguing that her new raincoat would be more than enough and that, unlike the umbrella, it would not ruin her outfit. But in case that hadn’t been enough, for when she arrived completely wet down to her socks and even clothes under her raincoat when Mina reprimanded her for not having listened to her, the younger girl explained that in fact it wasn’t because she wasn’t carrying an umbrella but because she, Dahyun and Tzuyu decided to run and dance in the rain when they left the library after an intense studying session.
Knowing that her girlfriend's two best friends were involved, she wasn’t surprised by what happened. Separately, Tzuyu and Chaeyoung are quite quiet, introverted and they rather go unnoticed, but if they get together with Dahyun nothing good can happen. Apparently in one of their classes this week, a teacher lectured them about youth, art and living life, which inspired them enough for them to spend at least an hour in the rain several days later in the middle of a storm.
Considering what happened, she wasn't going to take Mina's point away, but that's not going to stop her from complaining. "Oh come on, it's a silly cold" she snorts and before she can continue speaking, she sneezes so hard that her glasses fall off. "Okay, but don't take long" she relents.
When the dishes are clean, dry and in place, Mina returns to her side of the couch and gets ready to watch the movie, but she doesn't put it on, so she looks away from the TV and when she turns her head, she meets the huge expressive eyes of her girlfriend, who looks at her like a like a kicked puppy. She laughs softly and shifts her posture to lie down behind her and be the big spoon. It’s then when her girlfriend considers pressing the play button.
Only ten minutes pass until Chaeyoung says "The movie was recommended by Nayeon-unnie, it's probably good. I didn't know she studied film in college" she says, to which Mina simply hums as she concentrates on what the characters are saying and what the subtitles say, as there are parts in Japanese that she doesn't want her girlfriend to miss. Occasionally, Mina whispers in her ear some of the lines or words that she feels are oversimplified in the subtitles, but it's still Chae who keeps talking the whole time. She describes what happened in the scene as if they weren't watching the same thing, comments on how neat the costumes are, talks about how beautiful she thinks the composition is, suddenly switches to the Japanese occupation in which the story is set, asks about something she doesn't have time to read, laughs when she realizes that just like the protagonists, one of them is Korean and the other one is Japanese, she then clarifies that in this case it is the Korean who has to learn Japanese... and Mina starts to be slightly annoyed.
She’s a person who enjoys silence and is easily overwhelmed by too much noise or loud voices, like when they get together with their other seven friends and there are a lot of conversations going on at the same time. She knows it's something she needs to keep working on, but if anything, a red line for her is people talking while watching series or movies. Just like her beloved girlfriend is doing right now, who doesn't seem to pick up on the little interest her rambling receives, being answered only with monosyllables, short sentences and humming. They have been watching the movie for a while now and she’s squirming in her seat because of the discomfort and her urge to say or do something about it. her urge to get it over with is interrupted when she remembers that the girl in her arms is sick and what she needs right now is more care, the least she can do is listen to her thoughts and concerns. Even if she has decided to share them right while they are watching a movie in each other's arms.
Just when the scene in which the protagonists share a moment of intimacy comes and takes Mina's breath away, Chaeyoung speaks and it takes all of Mina’s will to restrain herself and take a deep breath until she hears what her girlfriend has to say now. "Mina-chan, don't move away; it's cold."
And that's when Mina puts all the pieces together and moves her hand to her girlfriend's forehead. As expected, it's quite warm compared to hers and then she leans down to place her lips on her girlfriend's forehead, who without quite knowing what Mina's intentions are, smiles in anticipation of a kiss on her forehead.  "Baby, you have a fever" she says softly. "Pause the movie. I'll get the thermometer and some medicine." That's certainly not what Chae, who now had her eyes closed ready to receive the next kiss on her lips, expected to hear. Mina can't help but laugh at the sight before her, but she quickly gets up to get everything she needs from the kitchen and bathroom. After a year of dating her, she should know better.
Luckily, there haven't been many times when one has had to take care of the other while they were sick, but enough times that Mina knows that Chaeyoung starts talking non-stop when her fever starts to rise. It's something that will always make her giggle, it's an odd trait that she finds adorable. "Was I talking that much?" Chae aks to her girlfriend, realizing what's going on, to which Mina nods and chuckles. "I was about to lose it" admits the older one, making her girlfriend blush. "Sorry, I didn't realize" she apologizes and Mina shakes her head as she gets up to grab the thermometer and a couple of other things.
"Here" she says as she returns with the thermometer the box of pills, a sachet of vitamins and a glass of water. "You should uncover for a while, Chaeyoungnie" she says, using a soft voice as she tries to take the blanket she is wrapped in, but her girlfriend grabs it and looks at her with a pout "But I'm so cold". Mina laughs softly "Yesterday you didn't seem to be bothered by the cold, come on, let’s get the thermometer on you".
Mina wasn't mistaken, the thermometer after five minutes reads 39°C, and the first thing she does is pull the blanket aside this time for real and go get a towel. After taking the medicine, they play the movie back on and now that Chae is starting to feel worse, it’s no longer being interrupted by her ramblings, but by all the times Mina has to get up from the couch to re-wet the towel, until she checks her temperature again and it has dropped a few tenths of a degree. Before the movie is over, Chaeyoung falls asleep. She has replaced the blankets with her girlfriend and now is curled up resting her head in the crook of her neck, she warms her hands under the older one's t-shirt and has one of her legs between hers. Mina, now unable to move and not knowing where the remote is, ends up watching the movie alone until the last word of the credits because she finds it impossible to wake her girlfriend when she is sleeping peacefully in her arms.
Fifteen minutes have passed — maybe thirty or an hour — at this point she doesn't even know and she decides it's time to go to bed. She carefully separates her body from her girlfriend's and whispers sweet nothings, trying to wake her up. "Chaeyoungnie, let's go to bed" she whispers for the tenth time and this time she finally gets a "Hmm?" but nothing else, so she decides to take charge of the situation and gets up to pick up her girlfriend until she sees the restrained smile on her face that ends up giving her away. "You're awake! Come on, let's go to bed." Chaeyoung shakes her head and uses her sick privilege, and those eyes with which she gets anything from Mina, and asks her to carry her to their bed.
It doesn't take long for them to fall asleep, but at some ungodly hour of the night, the younger one doesn't stop moving and shivering, thus waking up the older one. Still asleep, with her eyes half open and the dim light coming through the window, she gropes her girlfriend's forehead to check her temperature and when she notices the hairs of her bangs soaked in sweat, she sits up right away and looks again for the thermometer and the towel. This time it reaches 40°C so she immediately uncovers her and places the towel on her forehead, also cooling her face and neck down making her shiver and whimper. "Mina-chan?" she asks with her eyes closed as she doesn’t have enough energy to open them. "I'm here. Your fever is up again, but don't worry. Try to sleep; I'll take care of you" she reassures her and when she sees her weakly nod her head, she caresses her face gently and runs her fingers through Chaeyoung's sweaty hair.
That's how she spent the rest of the night, cuddling her girlfriend, wetting the towel with cold water from time to time and checking the temperature, which didn’t drop below 38ºC all night long. Between one thing and another, she has had time to drink two coffees and has taken the laptop to get ahead of work, knowing that it is best to spend the day with her in case she has to take her to the doctor. When dawn breaks, Mina writes an email to her company informing them she won’t be able to attend work today, she presses enter and listens to the beep of the thermometer, checking that the temperature has finally dropped. She places the laptop on her bedside table, takes off her glasses, deactivates the alarm on her phone and finally lets herself fall asleep.
The sun finishes rising, illuminating the entire room, this time it is Chaeyoung who wakes up. Beside her, she finds her girlfriend with noticeable bags under her eyes, her glasses and laptop beside her just like when she suffers from insomnia. This time, she’s also holding the towel with which she has been using on her forehead all night long. Although the image melts Chaeyoung's heart, she can't help but feel a pang of guilt at the thought that her girlfriend has had to spend the night awake taking care of her because of her poor choices. Soon, the guilt is replaced by the warmth she feels in her chest as she looks at her girlfriend, thinking how grateful and loved she is. After a year together, she still finds it hard to believe that a person like Mina is in love. And not only in love but willing to love her even more with the hairs of her bangs sticking to her forehead from the cold sweat of fever, or like that time when, after finishing her sculpture project, she suffered a contracture and had to help her bathe for five days, or when she drank so much with her unnies that she spent half the night vomiting with her head stuck in the toilet while Mina held her hair and just like today, she then prepared miso soup for her on each of those occasions. According to her, it works to cure everything.
With a smile on her lips, she carefully strokes Mina's hair and covers her with the blanket as she feels her cold skin making her wake up. "Take the medicine. I'll make you some breakfast in a little while, give me five minutes" she hears her say in her newly awake voice. And, unlike the day before, Chae accepts the offer as she feels she doesn't have enough strength to stand for more than five minutes.
True to her word, in less than fifteen minutes, Mina enters the room with a bowl of miso soup. "Thank you, Mina-chan" she says as she picks it up and places it on the nightstand to cool down a bit. "No problem. I made it yesterday, I just warmed it up" she shrugs as the other shakes her head. "It's not about the soup, it's about everything. Thank you for taking care of me and loving me so well. I love you" she clarifies, earning a smile from the girl in front of her. One of those gummy smiles that makes her eyes practically disappear. She says nothing, simply caresses her cheek and reaches up, seeking a kiss from her girlfriend, who, instead of joining her lips with her whispers "You're going to get sick" by way of warning, a warning they are both willing to ignore. "That's not going to stop me. I can't think of a better plan than spending anothers day at home with you instead of going to work. Besides, what was that thing your teacher said for you to end up in the rain... Live, feel, eat, love, laugh, travel and kiss without thinking about tomorrow?" She teases her girlfriend again about the rain incident and Chaeyoung nods her head before kissing Mina. "I guess I'll have to take good care of you" she whispers against her lips.

Gerec’s Favorite Fics - 2023
Here's a list of some of my favorite fics posted this year. A great big thanks to everyone still writing for this fandom; I know I'm very grateful to have all these amazing stories to read and to share!
Repeat Offenses by populuxe
“Prickly bits aside—hell, for the two of them, prickly bits included—it almost felt like a date. Which is stupid on multiple fronts. Grudgingly buying your ex a meal after he grudgingly bails you out of jail is obviously not a date.”
Five times Charles bailed Erik out of jail—and one time he didn’t.
melt your headaches, call it home by joshriku
Two decades later after the last time he saw Charles Xavier, Erik's children lead him right back to him.
Of course, it's never easy to look at the ex love of your life and realize you're not over them, not even in the slightest.
superposition by borninsideatornado (wip)
erik is a race car driver coming off the worst year of his life. charles xavier may be his last hope.
The Plus-One by populuxe
When Erik grudgingly agrees to play Raven's boyfriend at her terrible family's holiday party, he'd thought the biggest challenge would be staying sober enough to make it convincing. But then he meets Raven's extremely hot—and extremely infuriating—stepbrother, and everything starts to get complicated.
my heart knows your name by borninsideatornado
Once they’ve finally got him in bed, Charles works up the courage to ask if he might stay for a few days, because being rejected can’t be worse than seeing Erik in pain. But Erik only says, “I think that would be good.”
or: charles and erik have been broken up for years, occasionally falling into each other. things might change for good when erik lands himself in the ER where charles works. it’s all a bit of a hanukkah miracle.
This Terrible Desire To Be Loved by riais (jeriais)
Erik clings to his past, Charles detaches from his present. Somehow, they meet in the middle. Modern Au, no powers.
the pride and disgrace by ballantine
I am grand, said Charles. Did you know, I can make people think the sun is shining? I am giving them the most beautiful weather they have ever seen. They don't feel the wind or the rain, only the love of their companions. I am fostering the brotherhood of man, one heart at a time.
“Okay,” said Hank.
twenty four hours from tulsa by intentation
After having self-emancipated (aka run away), Erik's been holing up in a shitty motel while he figures out his next step. When Charles Xavier moves into the room just down the hall, Erik discovers his new favorite pastime: sex.
the pain will remind us of each other by borninsideatornado
It’s always felt alien, the way he feels about Erik. Too big for his body, too much to hold in his heart. But finally, finally, it makes sense.
Because at the end of the world, it’s him. It’s always going to be him. —
when logan lets charles see his future in days of future past, he talks to erik instead.
rendezvous by inthebelltower
“Tell me no,” Erik says. “Tell me to leave.”
Heartbeat by druswriting
People say that it’s a bad idea to be friends with your ex. People say that it’s an especially bad idea to be friends with your ex, if your ex is Erik Lehnsherr.
Unfortunately for him, Charles is an optimist. Unfortunately for him, Charles believes he can make friendship work with anyone. Unfortunately for him, Charles believes no one is beyond repair. Fuck, he’s such an idiot.
Well, at least the sex is good.
Dead Box by ByCandlelight
“We should keep moving,” Raven said softly, and so Erik rose to his feet. There was an ache in his knees that didn’t used to be there.
“Charles would love this planet,” he said unthinkingly, and something shuttered across her face.
Travels with Charles, in Search of America by midrashic (wip)
The world ends, but life goes on—until it doesn't.
Seventeen-year-old Erik Lehnsherr has never left the underground shelter that protects a small band of survivors from an Earth wracked with radiation as its magnetic poles reverse. When the settlement encounters a deadly threat, he embarks on a dangerous odyssey with new arrival, walking encyclopedia, and enormous pain-in-the-ass Charles Xavier in the hopes they can find what they need to save the settlement—before the coming winter or unpredictable magnetic storms bring death to not just them, but everyone they love.
Weak by Sotano (comics cherik)
For an hour he keeps himself alive without a heart, pumping his own blood with his powers. It was never going to last. Magneto dies on the Red Planet.
He's the only mutant in history Charles can't bring back.
Containment by feathershollyandgolly
Guilt swirls within as Charles watches the concrete door slide open. As he enters a hollow prison, both modest and intimidating. He is well aware that what he is about to do is a terrible thing.
Detours Along the Way by AndreaDTX (wip)
Erik Lehnsherr has been elected as the President of the United States of America, the youngest in history and the first ever known Mutant. Charles Xavier, his mate, is right by his side. But as Erik's first term begins, the couple braces themselves, knowing that getting elected is the easy part.
twice saying pardon (In Every World There Is You and Me Remix) by winter_hiems
After the events of X-3, Erik is powerless and alone. By chance, he ends up in an alternate universe – in Genosha, where mutants rule and are safe from harm. In Genosha, there is another version of himself. A version that has Charles Xavier by his side.
Another Love by Mataolma
One bad day, a stranger arrives at Charles' house. The soldier says his name is Logan and that he was Erik's best friend when they served in the Mexican War. Logan brings bad news: Erik died in the war, and Charles must decide what to do with his life now that the man he loves is gone.

Farmhand
Wordcount: 1676
Pairings: Sebastian x Farmer, Sebastian x Reader
You’d felt tired all day, but you especially felt lethargic now that you’d finished your chores for the day. There had been an annoying tickle in your throat all day and it probably wasn’t helped by the drizzle that you’d worked in for a few hours. There had been no other way about it, you needed to get those seeds in the ground today if you wanted another crop out before the season’s end.
You secured the barn and coop doors for the evening, making sure there was enough hay for the animals in case they got peckish. You headed inside for a warm shower, hoping it would perk you up but it had no effect and your head was starting to thud.
You were meant to be playing Soliaran with the boys tonight, but the more you thought about the journey to and back from Sebastian’s and how late it would probably end up being. You hated to let him down though, but you also knew you wouldn’t play at your best. Reluctantly, you got your phone and rang your boyfriend’s number. Sebastian had warned you he wasn’t great on the phone – he much preferred text messages or via the app – but you knew he often missed messages until much later and you didn’t want him to think you’d just forgot about the whole thing.
After a few rings, he picked up.
“Hey, Y/N. All okay?”
“Hi, Seb. I’m not feeling so well. I think I could do with an early night, but I hate to let you guys down… I’ve been feeling tired all day and I’ve got an awful headache now. Ugh, I’m sorry, I feel the worst!”
“Sweetheart,” he began – oh, whenever he called you that still made your stomach do somersaults, “it’s fine, don’t stress. Do you want me to get Harvey?”
“No, it’s nothing serious as that. I think I just need a seriously early night. Going to sleep past midnight and getting up at six must be catching up on me.” Your alarm clock had felt pretty brutal the last few days.
“Do you want me to cancel and come round? I’d be happy to.”
“That’s sweet but it’s okay.” You smiled as you opened the fridge, perusing the contents. “Honestly, I’m going to heat up some soup and then go to bed – I’d be extremely dull company.”
“Only if you’re sure. The others would understand.”
“Please don’t cancel for me, Seb. I’d feel terrible. I’ll catch up next time, okay?”
“Okay. But you’ll call me if you feel any worse, right? I can be right over.”
“I promise. I’m pretty sure I’ll be dead to the world once I get in bed, though.”
“I’ll miss you.” You could hear his pout through the phone.
“I miss you too. Love you, have fun!” You stressed.
“I love you too. Rest well.”
True to your word, you ate some leftover soup, left the dirty dishes in the sink – something you hated doing most of the time – and treated yourself to a fresh pair of pyjamas and crawled into your bed before the clock even hit 8pm.
--
Sebastian hadn’t slept well. He’d had fun with Sam and Abigail and they’d left just after midnight. He’d sat at his laptop for a couple of hours after that, keeping his phone close incase you’d rang. At around 3am he’d got into bed and must’ve had a few hours sleep as now the clock read just after 6am. He’d checked his phone, but there were no messages from you. That wasn’t unusual either – you knew he slept late into the morning and wouldn’t want to disturb him. He considered texting you but having stayed over at the farm a few times now, you weren’t one to take your phone out with you on your early morning chores. He placed his phone back down on the floor and tried to settle down but his mind was whirring. He wanted to see you and you’d be up anyway, right? He groaned as he got himself out of bed, he then quickly threw on jeans and his usual sweatshirt, picking up his keys and heading upstairs and out.
Thankfully, the sun was pretty low in the sky and he didn’t meet anyone taking the back route to your farm. Something was off, though, as he reached the top gate and let himself in – it was quiet. On nights he slept over, he’d soon got used to the sounds of the animals grazing in the morning. The chickens were always particularly vocal after being let out of the coop but as he walked past the door, it was firmly shut.
He checked the time on his watch – 06.45. That was super unlike you, unless you just didn’t want them out today? No, that didn’t make sense. It was often your first task in the morning to go and open the doors, and the only morning he hadn’t seen you do it was when it was a torrential downpour as the animals much preferred staying cosy inside.
Sebastian climbed up the porch steps and knocked, tentatively. Maybe you’d changed your morning routine since the last time he’d stayed – it had been over a week ago. He waited a moment or two but there was no response, no muffled sounds behind the door. Beginning to worry, he dug his keys out his pocket and swiftly found the one to your front door, easing it in the lock and twisting it before swinging the door open.
The living room was empty and there was no sign of you in the kitchen, but your bedroom door was slightly ajar and he could hear deep, heavy breathing. He crept over and peered through to see you fast asleep in the bed, a pillow over your eyes. You must be exhausted. He hovered his fist over your bedroom door, about to knock when he lowered his arm back down to his side. You were always working so hard, he couldn’t remember you ever mentioning a lie-in the whole time you’d known each other – every day it was up at 6am, rain or shine, feeding the animals, watering the crops, preparing the ground for the next lot of seeds… It seemed relentless, all that plus the other stuff living in Pelican Town meant – helping out your neighbours, maintaining friendships and a relationship with him. He began to wonder how you even had enough hours in the day. He retreated, heading back and out the front door, silently locking it behind him.
His eyes turned to the barn and he nodded in determination – he’d seen you do it enough times…
--
You stretched your arms over your head, feeling a bit stiff from the position you must’ve slept in, but otherwise you felt good. Far more rested than you could remember feeling in months. You rubbed your eyes, noting that the sun seemed pretty high this morning, especially since it must be before 6 since you hadn’t heard your alarm go off yet.
You looked over to your bedside table and your stomach sank when you realized it was past 10am. What the…? Had you turned it off in your sleep?! You cursed, scrambling out of the sheets, popped to the bathroom and then quickly got dressed, trying to remember exactly what you had on your to-do list today.
You unlocked the door and stepped out onto the porch to be greeted by the gentle cluck of the chickens pecking at the dirt down by the steps. Had you not closed the doors last night? No, you were sure you had, but that didn’t explain how the cows, goats, sheep, pigs and chickens were now all roaming amongst the grass.
Suddenly, Sebastian ducked out of the chicken coop, a basket in hand and your heart skipped a beat. He caught sight of you standing dumbfounded on the porch and smiled shyly.
“Morning, sleepyhead.”
You jumped down the porch steps and over to the fence, where he met you on the other side. His basket was filled with chicken eggs.
“I, er… I hope you don’t mind. I came by early and I saw the animals were still inside, so I checked on you and you were dead to the world. I thought you could do with the extra sleep, so I tried to get on with your morning jobs.”
“Seb, you are the sweetest man alive!” You squealed, pulling him forward by the scruff of his sweatshirt into a kiss. The man’s usually pale complexion turned a cute shade of pink as he blushed.
“It’s nothing,” he shrugged. “You work really hard, Y/N. Are you feeling any better?”
“So much better,” you stressed, opening the gate for him. “I think I must’ve slept something ridiculous like 14 hours. What did you get up to?”
“Er, well, I let all the animals out to graze, and I topped up the hay a bit. I’ve collected the fallen fruit, turned the sprinklers on, cleared some of the weeds in the crop patches and I just finished collecting the eggs… It doesn’t seem much considering the time.” He finished with a yawn while you stared at him, momentarily sunned.
“Sebastian, please, that’s loads! I can’t believe you did all that for me. Here,” you took the basket from him and grabbed his hand. “That calls for a coffee break.” You led him towards the porch. “Or maybe even a nap? You look exhausted, did you even sleep last night?”
“A bit,” he shrugged as the two of you entered the farmhouse.
“Go,” you pushed him towards the sofa, “Lie down whilst I brew up the coffee.” You had the strongest suspicion Sebastian wouldn’t make it till then.
He yawned, loudly, before settling down and resting his head back against the arm. “Okay, but only for a moment. Still got cows to milk…”
By the time the coffee was brewed, you could hear light snores coming from the sofa. “Sleep well, farmhand.” You whispered, kissing him on the forehead.

[Monday, September 9th, 1985. THEN.]
“You look like shit,” Max stated as she climbed into the backseat of your car Monday morning, having already waited at the side of the road that led to the Forest Hills trailer park the Mayfields had moved to a month ago after Neil Hargrove had left in the wake of his son’s death.
“Why, good morning to you, too,” you quipped as you started the engine to get back on the road as Robin chimed up from the passenger seat, “That’s what I said, as well. How much sleep did you get?”
“Five hours,” you replied.
“That’s not bad.”
“Over the whole weekend,” you added. A glimpse at Max through the rear-view mirror told you the redhead probably hadn’t slept at all. The skin around her eyes was pale enough to see the blue pattern of veins underneath.
No matter how bad you’d been faring since Starcourt, since your friends had managed to burn the Mind Flayer out of your brains, Max had it worse. Your heart went out to her as she adjusted the headphones over her ears to drown out whatever thoughts and memories would haunt her as soon as she was alone with her mind.
It had been two months since Starcourt, and one month since the start of this odd carpool with talkative Robin and the new gloomy, silent version of Max. On the first day of the new school year, Robin and you had decided to pick the redhead up to spare her the bus ride and the additional moments of scrutiny and whispers that inadvertently followed her, now that she was the girl with the brother who’d died in the “mall fire”. Picking her up in the mornings had become an unspoken agreement, just as it had become with Robin.
It was weird how it had taken possession on your side and a fight against a monster made of molten people to befriend Robin Buckley, the girl who’d lived in the same street as you ever since you could remember. She was growing on you. And she was growing on Nancy, as well. Shared trauma, as it turned out, didn’t just make a great foundation for relationships, but friendships as well.
As you barrelled down the street with a roar of the old car’s engine, your gaze briefly flitted towards the trailer opposite the Mayfield’s, and your thoughts returned to the encounter in the woods Friday night.
To Eddie Munson, who wasn’t callous or scary or threatening at all, but…kind.
As if on cue, Robin turned to you and asked, “By the way – where were you at the celebration after the game Friday night? Steve and I were looking for you but you were just gone.”
If you told Robin about what Jason had tried to do, she’d be worried. She’d talk you into telling the police. And you really didn’t want to answer any more questions.
The days and days of being cooped up in that stuffy police office that smelled of cheap coffee and stale sweat while Dr. Owens and his men had poked and prodded you with syringes and questions about these thirty hours with the Mind Flayer in your head while all you’d wanted to do was go home and cry...you couldn’t do any more of this.
Despite, what would the cops do about Jason? Arrest him? Hopper would have been on your side. He would have found a way to make Jason face consequences. But Hopper was gone. And there never were consequences for guys like Jason Carver. You were simply glad Eddie that had intervened. Saved you, as cheesy as it sounded.
“I was tired, so I went home,” you said. It wasn’t exactly a lie. Just a little omission of the whole truth. “Wait – Steve was actually there? I thought he was joking when he said he’d come.”
“He even brought a date,” Robin replied, drawing out the word date with a roll of her eyes.
“Heidi or Lisa?”
“Does it matter?”, Robin chuckled. “I lost track weeks ago.”
“I bet so did Steve.”
Robin laughed, before she said, “You should start working at the video store as well. Simply to witness Steve’s hunt for a girlfriend.” It was weird how, two years ago, you’d hated Steve Harrington with a passion for the simple fact that you’d thought he was taking Nancy away from you. And now, he was one of your dearest friends. To be fair, he had been a douche in the beginning.
“The Arcade is looking for new employees,” Robin said.
“I feel like a need a bit more time before applying for another job, after –“ You cut yourself off with a glance in the rear-view mirror, at Max, but the redhead had already zoned out, staring out the window at the blur of houses passing by and headphones in place with the music cranked up to the point where you could hear the soft voice of Kate Bush float through the car.
“- after being kidnapped and turned into the barbie doll of a shadow monster,” Robin finished. “To your credit, though, the red lifeguard-bathing suit looked rad.”
“You know, I’m glad Steve adopted you,” you snickered. And you meant it.
When you’d parked the car and parted ways with Robin and Max, there was this strange, tense feeling in your chest as you made your way through the hallways, like the air right before a thunderstorm.
You waited for something to happen, praying to avoid bumping into Jason in the hallway while you scanned the crowd for a flash of dark curls and darker eyes in a weird hope to catch a glance at Eddie Munson, but neither happened.
By the end of the second period, you had the weird feeling that people were…staring at you.
And by the time the bell rang and you made your way to the cafeteria to meet Robin and Nancy for lunch break, the number of glances following your every step refuted any hopes that it was just the good old monster-hunting paranoia making you see things.
Something was going on. And the dark feeling rising in your chest told you it had something to do with Jason Carver and what had happened in the woods on Friday night.
When you entered the already crowded cafeteria, your gaze was pulled to the table at the back by the windows, the one usually occupied by the Hellfire Club with Eddie lounging at the table’s head like King Arthur holding court over his Round Table, but a hand wrapped around your wrist to pull you to the side before you could see if the Hellfire Club had already assembled.
“Nance? What –“
“I’ve been looking for you.” Nancy’s hazel eyes were filled with alarm. You didn’t have time to inquire why your friend seemed so on edge before a second voice chimed up from behind you, “Oh, thank God, there you are. Holy shit,” and Robin elbowed her way towards the spot where you and Nancy were standing in the corner beside the cafeteria’s entrance.
Your eyes left Nancy’s worried face to take in the tension in Robin’s stance as she blurted, “Okay, I was terrified. I’m – look, I’m not saying this is cool and everything’s fine because clearly it isn’t but people are…people are like sheep. They’ll move on to the next bit of gossip as soon as they’re bored of –“
“What the Hell are you talking about?”, you interrupted, your gaze flitting between Nancy’s wide eyes and Robin, who’d started biting her lips and picking at the fraying edges of her black nail polish while she tried to catch her breath as if she’d run all the way here. “You…haven’t heard yet?”
“Haven’t heard what?” A numbing feeling of dread spread through your limbs as you met Robin’s alarmed gaze.
Oh god. No. Please, no –
“What happened Friday after the game?”, Nancy pressed when a group of sophomores were passing the three of you, their grins leering as they openly stared at you, and you slowly turned around to the already crowded space of the cafeteria.
Voice hollow, you asked, “Why – why are people staring at us?”
The brief, meaningful glance between Nancy and Robin, who’d started fiddling with the sleeve of her shirt again, didn’t escape your notice, and the panic spread throughout your chest as Nancy said, “Jason Carver has a black eye. And he’s telling people that Eddie Munson gave it to him.”
“Wait – what?!”
“He says that Friday, after the game...”
“He caught you with Eddie The Freak. In the woods,” Robin finished the sentence, visibly distressed to be the bearer of the news. “Um. Screwing.” She winced at the word.
There was a beat of crestfallen silence, before she added, “And that Eddie got aggressive and punched him when he saw Jason. Which neither of us believes, by the way. Jason is a prick. But something did happen, apparently, so…”
You were too shell-shocked to speak, to break the silence as Robin and Nancy waited for you to reply, to explain what had actually happened – but the headache, which had been buzzing behind your temples like a hive of angry wasps the whole morning, was flaring as your stomach seemed to plummet to the ground.
Slowly, you let your gaze wander over the crowded cafeteria.
Snippets of conversations rose in the air like paper planes.
“…seems like she’s not so sweet and innocent anymore. Did you hear what Jason said she let that freak do?”
“Gross.”
“Such a slut, oh my god.”
“Maybe the freak’s got some hidden talents underneath these ugly clothes.”
It seemed the rumor Jason had started was spreading like a Californian wildfire already, the school’s hunger for gossip like dried grass ready to feed the flames – and burn Eddie Munson and you to cinders in the process.
You suddenly felt sick.
It wasn’t just the lie about you hooking up with Eddie Munson – it was the fact how effortlessly Jason had unraveled the truth to spin it into a story fitting his own narrative, covering up the fact what he’d tried to do, and stealing control from you once again. And the way how people were talking about Eddie, who’d shown you nothing but kindness when he could have easily looked away.
Over the noise and the laughter, the glances that stuck to you like mud, your eyes locked on Jason Carver, who was sitting with his basketball squad, laughing and joking as if nothing had happened, as if he didn’t exactly know why there was a fresh black bruise ringing his eye.
As if he’d felt your stare, he turned to face you – and for the briefest of moments, you saw the malice in his icy blue eyes as he kept laughing, like a monster’s scaled back flashing beneath the surface of a calm lake – before he turned his back on you again. A quiet dismissal.
A reminder of how powerless you were against him.
You’d known that someone as entitled as Jason, someone who was used to getting whatever he wanted whenever he wanted it, wouldn’t just back down. That the humiliation of being punched by a girl and threatened by a freak like Eddie, would sting like a thorn in the paw of an angry beast.
But over the weekend, you’d clung to the hope that Jason had actually backed down for once. That the chance of the truth coming to light would be enough to shut him up. You’d obviously underestimated his creativity.
Nancy’s hand tentatively settled on your shoulder as she murmured your name. “Are you okay?”
“What kind of question is that?”, Robin muttered at Nancy, “Of course she’s not. She’s getting embroiled in a sex scandal as we speak without even having had sex. Wait –“ Robin turned to you, “You didn’t hook up with Eddie Munson, did you?”
“Robin!”, Nancy hissed, and Robin raised her hands in defeat. “I’m just saying. I’m not judging. If it weren’t for Eddie Munson, I’d probably be the school weirdo. Thanks to him, at least I’m just a weirdo, not the weirdo.”
You watched a group of sophomores pass by.
“He said the freak threatened to sacrifice Jason to Satan. He only wanted to be sure she was okay and gets beaten up by that creep”, one of them gasped, and her friend threw a dirty look in your direction as she said, “Well, poor Jason. He’ll have to scrub his eyes out with bleach.”
“Jason is lying,” you breathed. Your voice sounded tiny and far away, even in your own ears as you turned to scan the crowd, once more searching for a flash of dark curls, the familiar sight of ripped denim and black leather at the back of the room.
“Yeah,” Robin deadpanned, “We guessed that, we’re not dumb.”
Your heart skipped a panicked beat as your eyes finally found Eddie, who was already occupying his usual place at the head of the Hellfire Club’s table, fidgeting with the rings on his hands while he kept talking to one of his friends, his expression stern. And with the way Dustin and Mike were staring back at you, there was no way Eddie hadn’t heard the gossip by now, the vile things people were saying about him. About both of you.
As Eddie lifted his gaze and your eyes met across the room, heat rose to your cheeks.
If for the lies Jason was spreading about you and Eddie, dragging him into this whole mess with you, or the thought of actually doing these things with him, you couldn’t tell.
There was no wide smile on Eddie’s lips as he held your gaze now. Only a strange cautiousness, as if he were afraid people could notice the quick exchange of looks. Or probably he thought you were afraid they could notice that you’d actually talked to the freak you’d allegedly been screwing around with, lending new weight to Jason’s lies.
With a wave of shame barreling through you, you quickly averted your gaze.
You wanted to get out of here. Out of the sticky air that smelled of stale pizza cheese and canned vegetables, away from the vile glances and the even viler words thrown your way with the clear intention for you to pick up on them simply because gossip was all the more enjoyable if it was aimed at a cheerleader. It didn’t matter that you’d never really engaged with the popular crowd, that you’d stayed beneath the radar all this time. The pompoms made you one of them.
And if you fled the cafeteria now, you’d only paint an even bigger bull’s eye on your back by showing that the gossip actually affected you.
“Everyone else seems to believe Jason,” Nancy said. “Tell us what happened. Please.”
“I wasn’t feeling well, after the game,” you said quietly, having trouble to keep your breathing in check. “I wanted to catch some fresh air. That’s why I went to the woods alone. I didn’t want to make a great deal of it.”
The glance Nancy and Robin swapped didn’t escape your notice. They knew about your panic attacks; about the nosebleeds and headaches and nightmares the Mind Flayer had left behind when it had been forced out of your mind by the two girls currently watching you with concern written all over their faces.
You took a deep breath to steady yourself, to ignore the snippets of gossip floating all around you like the spores in the Upside Down as you instead tried to focus on Nancy’s hazel eyes and the worry within, on the freckles splattered across Robin’s nose and the silent rage at Jason flashing in her eyes. “Jason followed me. I told him to stay away, and I punched him, but…if Eddie Munson hadn’t shown up, I don’t know what Jason would have done.”
There was no need to tell them about the way Jason had forced you to kiss him, the stale taste of beer on his breath and the sickening tang of his blood on your tongue when you’d bitten him.
“Eddie told him to stay away. And then he walked me back to the parking lot. That’s what happened.” And I puked over his shoes, you mentally added. And I liked talking to him. I liked it very much.
While at this point, Robin looked like she was ready to engage in a fist fight with Jason herself, Nancy’s eyes screamed murder as her gaze travelled over your shoulder to glare at him.
“I’m an editor of the school paper,” she began, “If I talk to Fred, we could write something to, I don’t know –“
“Divert the gossip?”, you huffed. “There’s nothing we can do, Nance, and you know it. I’m a slut now.”
“We could run him over,” Robin noted darkly. You could tell it was only half a joke. It was endearing to see how she was trying to cheer you up.
“You don’t have a license.”
“I don’t need a license to run someone over. That’s, like, the best excuse I could have. Or we could send Steve to beat him up, just a little bit.”
“Steve never won a fight,” you noted, before adding darkly, “Despite, I punched Jason already, and see what good it did. God, I think I’m going to throw up.” You pressed a hand in front of your mouth.
Nancy said softly, “Remember when Steve and I broke up and I got together with Jonathan?”
“The whole school remembers,” Robin quipped. “It was King Steve and Princess Nancy. It wasn’t exactly a topic one could avoid.”
“My point is,” Nancy went on, ignoring Robin’s little interjection, who’d started to go into full panic mode at this point, “People were saying all kinds of horrible things. About Jonathan, about me, even about Steve –“
“His reputation never fully recovered,” Robin added helpfully. You groaned.
“And yet,” Nancy threw Robin a murderous sideways glance, “They all got bored eventually.”
“See!,” Robin exclaimed, her hands settling on your shoulders as she leaned closer, “Things will look totally different in a few days. Give it a little time. Nancy’s right, people will move on and there are only six months left until graduation, anyways. So, only six months to go. Oh! And you’ve already hit rock bottom! Which means it definitely can’t get worse! I mean, you don’t have anything to do with Eddie The Freak so people will get bored when they never see you together and just…move on to the next scandal.”
“Don’t call him that, Robin,” you said softly, and were met with a confused frown. “Freak, I mean. Don’t call him freak.” You were aware how hypocritical it sounded, considering the fact that until Friday, you’d always thought of him as Eddie The Freak as well. Robin, thankfully, refrained from pointing that out.
You glanced over your shoulder, back in the direction of the Hellfire Club’s table to meet Eddie’s gaze once again.
You wanted to tell him that you were sorry about the horrible things people were saying about him. That you didn’t think of him as a freak anymore. That a part of you had replayed that moment in the woods over and over in your mind over the weekend – not the part with Jason, but everything afterwards. How Eddie had calmed you without you even realizing it. How he’d made you smile and set you at ease and made you feel…safe.
The lump in your throat grew as Eddie’s eyes rested on yours for a heartbeat – before, with a swift motion that startled Dustin in the seat beside him to nearly spill his soda, Eddie shot up from his chair and climbed the table.
It wasn’t exactly new. Eddie Munson had made quite a habit of climbing onto tables time and again during lunchbreak, but nevertheless, it drew people’s gazes away from you and onto him as he straightened himself and took a step forward while Dustin’s hand shot out to pull his lunch tray out of Eddie’s path just in time, the reflex fast enough to make you wonder how many times, exactly, the boy had already failed to save his lunch from Eddie’s theatrics. Under different circumstances, the whole scene would’ve been hilarious.
“What is he doing?!”, Nancy whispered.
“I’d like to reiterate,” Robin muttered, “It can get worse. You might need to move states.”
Your eyes met Eddie’s in silent dread before you caught sight of Mike, who was sitting frozen beside Dustin, watching the Hellfire Club’s leader with a mix of awe and that Wheeler-typical shit’s-about-to-get-real gape currently written all over Nancy’s own face.
And judging by the fire in Eddie’s gaze as it came to rest on Jason, who was still lounging on his own table with his friends surrounding him like a Mafia boss’ henchmen…shit was indeed about to get real.
“Hey, Jason,” Eddie called out, a dangerous edge in his voice as it rose over the noise in the cafeteria that ebbed as all eyes locked on Eddie and Jason. “Why don’t you tell people the truth about how you got that black eye? Scared it’ll make you look even more stupid?”
“What do you want, freak?”, Jason spat while rising from his seat, hands curled into fists at his sides as if he was ready to strike – but beyond the aloof façade of disdain as he glowered at Eddie, you could see him falter. Growing…nervous.
You couldn’t tell if it was the prospect of Eddie actually spilling the truth of what had happened – but you doubted that. Jason knew as well as you did that nobody would believe Eddie if it were his word against Jason’s. No, it dawned on you – Jason was…not scared of Eddie, but definitely unsettled, in the way people felt unsettled whenever something didn’t quite fit into one of the neat little boxes they tried to sort the world into.
And Eddie seemed to be well aware of this fact.
He let his gaze roam over the assembled crowd in the cafeteria, before he drawled, “Do none of you wonder why Jason Carver, our golden boy,” – he spoke the words in a mocking sing-song voice as he nodded towards Jason – “Left his own victory celebration to follow a girl out into the woods alone? If you were so worried about her well-being – why not just tell one of the school paramedics, Jason? Since, you know. They’re present at every game. And prepared for medical emergencies. But,” Eddie crossed his arms in front of his chest with an exaggerated sway to the side, “You obviously didn’t. Why?”
“Well, she was obviously busy with you,” Jason spat, earning a few howls of raucous laughter from his basketball teammates. With a sliver of relief, you noticed that Lucas wasn’t among them.
You waited for Eddie to spill what had actually happened, but…it would only make things worse, you realized.
People like Jason were free to twist the truth as they saw fit. And nobody would believe Eddie or you even if you told them how Jason had harassed you, no matter if you were a cheerleader. People saw what they wanted to see. And accusing Jason, Hawkins’ basketball star, of any ill intent would make things worse for both Eddie and you, because it wouldn’t just be gossip anymore. It would be a challenge.
There was only one way for Eddie Munson to save face, you realized. All he had to do was play along with Jason’s lie, boast a little about banging a cheerleader, add a few made-up details for good measure, and all the derision and scorn would be diverted solely towards you.
Because in the end, Eddie Munson might be the freak – but he was still the guy. No matter how much he obviously hated Eddie, Jason’s anger wasn’t directed at Eddie for interrupting – it was directed at you for saying no and punching him. To harm you, Jason had even accepted the risk of Eddie The Freak gaining some fame of his own. And that was exactly what Jason was anticipating right now.
Eddie let out a little chuckle. “Liars burn in Hell, Jason, didn’t your mummy tell you that?”, he teased with a sardonic little grimace, before stretching his arms and adding with a laugh, “Do you all really believe a freak stood any chance with a cheerleader? Yeah. Me neither.” With his hands placed over his heart and eyes on Jason, Eddie drawled sweetly, “Though I can’t help but feel flattered that King Jason Carver thinks I’m pretty enough to impress a cheerleader.”
And with a wide, devilish grin, Eddie blew Jason a kiss.
“Okay, I’m gay as Hell but I’m that close to throwing my panties like some chick at a concert just for good measure,” Robin whispered, hands pressed in front of her mouth an attempt to stifle the laugh which threatened to spill from her.
Hesitant laughter was rising from some of the onlookers as Eddie walked across the tabletop and back to his seat. Laughter about Jason, you realized.
“Show’s over, by the way,” Eddie called out with a smirk, sinking into a little bow that would have caused second-hand embarrassment had it been anybody else, but somehow made Eddie Munson look like an aloof rock star with his metal looks and wild hair, “In case dear Jason isn’t invested enough to start a talk show about my sex life, you can all go back to your own boring lives now.” It didn’t even sound rude, the way he delivered the words.
More laughter rang through the air, and you watched in utter fascination how, with all the calmness in the world and as if he hadn’t just delivered the burn of the century, Eddie plopped back into his chair, stealing a fry from the lunch tray Dustin had saved.
The look on Jason’s face as he sunk back into his chair, hands curled so tightly into fists that even from the distance you could see his knuckles turning white, could have frozen over Hell.
But if he did anything now, he’d be the one to look stupid.
Yes, someone like Eddie couldn’t do much about a guy like Jason spreading lies, because nobody ever believed the freak. The outcast. The weirdo.
But Eddie Munson had wielded the fact that he was a freak like a sword and single-handedly turned Jason’s gossip into a joke that took the edge off the rumor’s vileness and, at least for now, put you out of the line of fire when he could have simply gone along with Jason’s lies for his own benefit.
 [Friday, March 22nd, 1986. NOW.]
It felt surreal. Like a dream. A nightmare.
Turning to Max, who looked like she’d just fallen out of bed in her oversized pyjamas and the mess of red hair she’d tied into a quick ponytail, her expression dark as she watched the carrier with the body bag, with Chrissy, being rolled down the gravel path towards the waiting ambulance, as if an ambulance would be of any help, you repeated, a bit more vehemently, “Where’s Eddie?”
“Wait,”, Robin gasped, “Do you think that’s Eddie Munson in that body bag? Holy shit.”
“No, it’s not Eddie,” Max said, just as you whispered, “It’s Chrissy Cunningham.”
“What?!”
“I caught a glimpse of her,” you breathed, massaging your temples where a new headache was already pounding against your skull, “Her scrunchie. It’s Chrissy.”
“I saw them, yesterday. Some time around seven, eight pm,” Max said. “She went into the trailer with him, and moments later, he was darting out of that door as if a whole horde of monsters were chasing him. Alone.”
“Do you think he killed her?”, Robin gaped, turning to you. “I mean, I’m aware he’s Eddie The Freak and people are, like, super wary of him. But remember that day Jason was telling lies about you and Eddie called him out for his bullshit? And Henderson worships the ground he’s walking on, to the point where Steve is getting actually jealous, which I find absolutely hilarious to be honest –“
“He didn’t kill Chrissy.”
“Well, then who did?”, Max challenged. “He was the last one who saw her alive.”
“Maybe they just…you know,” Robin said, biting her lip with a glance at the cops milling about the Munson’s trailer, “Maybe they just hooked up.”
The thought of Eddie and Chrissy together made your insides twist, a sudden burst of pain as if someone had pierced a rusty blade right through your belly. You had no right be jealous, after everything that had happened back in November. “They didn’t,” you stated, with more vehemence than you felt, “I know Chrissy. She would never cheat on Jason. And Eddie didn’t kill her.”
Maybe Chrissy only wanted to buy drugs.
Max raised her eyebrows. “He was the last one to see her alive. She went inside with him, and he ran out alone. I mean, it could have been an accident and he got scared.”
The image of that green scrunchie, the pale hand reaching awkwardly in the air with all five fingers snapped like twigs until they stood at the oddest angles…it would haunt you for the rest of your days. You were glad the shadow of the doorway hadn’t revealed more of poor Chrissy’s mutilated body.
“Whatever happened to her was no accident,” you replied hollowly.
“Then what makes you so sure then that Eddie didn’t kill her? It’s damn sketchy –“
“Because I know, okay?!”, you snapped at Max as all the pent-up panic and confusion and heartbreak crested to a wave in your chest. “I know he’s not a killer! He would never hurt a fly –“
“That’s what people said about Ted Bundy, too,” Max quipped.
You wanted to scream. You wanted to grab Max’s shoulders and shake her and scream at her that she had no idea, that she needed to shut up about Eddie murdering anyone when he was the kindest, purest soul you’d ever met – when your gaze fixed on a lone figure sitting at the side of the Munson’s veranda, smoke rising from the untouched cigarette he was holding as he stared at the dried patches of grass at his feet, and another horrible thought pierced through the panic in your mind.
“They think Eddie did it,” you breathed. Because if Wayne Munson was still here, and not in handcuffs, the poor guy probably having found Chrissy when he’d returned from his usual night shift at the plant…there was only one prime suspect left. “They think it was Eddie.”
You turned to face Robin and Max, who were watching you with expressions of varying confusion and worry.
For a heartbeat, you wanted to tell them about Eddie.
About the way he’d smiled at you with these infectious smiles that seemed to light up the whole room, made his dark eyes spark and confetti burst in your chest.
How in the weeks after that encounter in the woods, Eddie Munson had been the life line which had saved you from drowning when nobody else had been able to.
How you’d walked out of that trailer’s pale blue front door with the pattern of chipped paint you’d come to know by heart, as familiar as the pages of a favourite book. Walked out of his life, with tears streaming down your face and your heart shattering into a million pieces which, even now, four months later, refused to be put back together.
But if you told them, they’d want to hear the whole story, not only the beginning and the middle but the ending as well. And you couldn’t tell them. You couldn’t.
So instead, you kept quiet, letting Eddie Munson stay another secret you kept as shame burned hot in your belly.
There were far more pressing matters than discussing the past.
I’m not a saviour, in case you didn’t notice, his words from that first encounter in the woods behind the sport’s field echoed through your head. But in the end, Eddie had been exactly that for you.
And now, it seemed, he desperately needed a saviour of his own.
“I know Eddie Munson didn’t murder Chrissy,” you said, voice firm, as your gaze drifted between Robin and Max, “And right now, I need you to trust me on that, okay?”
“Wait!”, Max interrupted, biting her lip, “There was something else. The lights were flickering. In our trailer, I mean.”
“When was that?”
“After I saw Chrissy following Eddie into his trailer. That’s why I was looking out the window when he was running away. I wanted to know if the street lights were weird as well. I mean, we’re all a little paranoid by now,” she added with a bitter laugh.
“Okay so, if Eddie didn’t do it…,” Robin said slowly, “Then who did? Do you think it was something…from the other side? Like the Mind Flayer?”
You raised your head in grim determination. “I don’t know. But we need to go. Now. We need to find Eddie before the cops do.”

YOU KNEW when mating with neteyam would mean that he would be busy, a lot. you knew that he would be gone for days at a time, and return home late, and leave early.
you knew the chance for you two to get a minute alone would be difficult, almost impossible. it had been over a month since the two of you had last had an hour together.
you tried to ignore it, the feeling that burnt into your stomach as it seemed everyone had been more important, despite already knowing this was how it was going to be.
you were in your pod, neteyam — surprisingly hadn’t left yet, he was in the corner, finishing some work — before having to leave for work, while you were changing for the day.
as you bend down, you’re suddenly overtaken with dizziness, stumbling back. until ur against the wall, regaining your balance. you open your eyes to look at neteyam, his eyes never teared from his work, it made you frown, but shake it off.
you tried to ignore the headache, the feeling over your body— it was like it was on fire. “tey” you mutter, that gets his attention, he had missed you and was trying to finish this as soon as possible so he could spend time with you before you both had to leave.
“ma y/n” he said, smiling softly. you give him a half hearted smile back, before reaching down to grab a bag you had weaved, “i am leaving.” you say, wanting to go to the hut as soon as possible, it had gotten to the point, being around neteyam when his focused seemed to be on anything else, had caused an ache in your heart.
his smile dropped, furrowing his eyebrows. “it is still early” he said, he was almost done, cursing himself for not working faster. you just nod, placing a jar of herbs in your bag. “i have no reason to stay, may as well start early” you mutter, not meaning for it to come across as harsh as it did.
“actually i was hoping- don’t worry, its okay, have a good day yawne” he said, standing up, figuring if you wanted to stay you would. he walked towards you, hoping to maybe get a quick kiss before you left, but you slipped past him.
“bye tey, see you later” you said, his heart twisted, was this what it had been like for you.
the real reason you had left early was because you wanted mo’at to check you, walking into the healing pod you were overfilled with the sense of nausea.
“my child, it is early.” mo’at said, eying you carefully, “you are sick?” she asked, you just shrugged, stumbling over to a seat, you felt as if, if you didn’t sit, you were going to pass out.
“tell me what you are feeling” mo’at said, as she poked your arms with something. you hummed, thinking carefully before answering. “not hungry, the smell of food makes me feel sick, i have been getting horrible headaches, and i feel dizzy a lot.” you say, softly.
“are you eating?” she said, you shook your head, “i can’t, everything i eat i vomit up”
she ran a few more ‘test’ like things, but in the end she was slightly confused herself. “i am not to sure, but it should only last a week at most, but it is dangerous, you are overworked, you must take the rest of the week off, and im afraid, neteyam will as well” she says, leaving you confused.
“neteyam? why” you ask, tilting your head.
“you’re weak. you cannot leave resting. i am worried that if you do to much it will get worse. neteyam must take care of you, if he cannot, which he can, but if worst comes to worst, you stay with me, i care for you” she said, despite knowing neteyam would take a million days off for you.
“okay” you nod, “now go home and get rest, do you need assistance getting back?” she asked, you just shake your head, just silently hoping neteyam had left.
much to your dismay, as you pull the opening back you find neteyam sitting, but also jake and neytiri sitting at the table as well. they look up as you enter.
“oh! y/n, neteyam said you had left early for work.” jake said, you felt sick all over again, “uh yeah, i just forgot some stuff.” you lie, i mean there was things you could grab, but you hadn’t actually forgotten anything.
but there was no way you could ask neteyam to take a few days off to look after you with his parents here. “its good to see you sweetie, it has been a while” neytiri says, walking up to you to brush your hair behind your shoulders, you smile.
as she examines you, she furrows her eyebrows, “are you sick, child?” she asked, neteyam’s ears perk, looking over. “not at all, i feel great!” you smile, “just very busy, a little stressful” you laugh softly, moving away to collect a few jars.
neteyam’s mind seems to ease at your words, going back to the work with his father. “does y/n know?” jake asks, neteyam furrows his eyebrows before his eyes widen.
“know what?” you ask, turning to the two men. “i was going to tell you tonight! we are arranging a trip, a hunting trip,- my dad want’s me to lead it” you knew this was a big opportunity for him, you smile. “that’s great tey!! im so happy for you” you say softly.
“we are planning on leaving tomorrow” jake says, ur smile drops a little, before returning, but neytiri catches on. “that is great, very soon”
neteyam can’t help but frown at how excited you are, he was too- he was over the moon. but he wanted to spend time with you, “how long will it be?” you were thinking a one night, one day thing.
“a week!” jake said, patting his son’s shoulders with pride, neteyam smiles up at him, “oh” you mutter, furrowing your eyebrows, before just smiling, “that is great.” you say, feeling a little betrayed that neteyam hadn’t talked to you about this, yes he was out during the days but he returned to you everynight, that wasn’t even the problem.
its the fact it was tomorrow, for a week. and he was planning to tell you tonight when whatever you reaction was it didn’t really matter, it was already set.
“we must get to work,” jake said, patting neteyam’s arms once more, neytiri sighed, as the two boys got up, jake walked over to place a soft kiss on neytiri’s lips, before walking out.
neteyam looked between you and his mother, no matter how long it had been, it was still so weird to do anything like that in front of his mom, she knew it as well.
she sighed, following jake outside to leave you and neteyam for a minute. you were fighting tears because of the pain in your head, but either way you just smiled at him.
“im sorry, it all happened really fast” neteyam said, grabbing onto your hand, you just shake your head. “its fine, tey. i get it. i am really happy for you, this is amazing”
“will you be okay? i told dad that when we get back, i want to spend more time with you. its just a week, then i promise-”
“tey it is fine, have fun, you deserve this”
neteyam left the next morning, you were awake, sitting up in bed, in the early morning, “i made you breakfast when you are ready” neteyam said, you were confused as to why he had been so affectionate the last day or two, after being so busy for a month straight, was it because he was leaving for a week.
“thank you tey” you mutter, pulling the weaved blankets higher onto you, neteyam didn’t get home until very late last night, you weren’t awake when he got home. he looked outside, to see the time.
“i have to go, yawne. you sure you’re going to be alright?” he asked, you just laugh. “when have i ever not been okay on my own” you say, laughing softly, he smiled.
“love you” he said, leaning down to place a soft kiss on your lips, he pulled away quickly. “you are hot darling”
“thank you i try” you tease playfully, despite the nausea coming back to you as the scent of neteyam’s cooking fill your senses, it was nothing against his cooking, he made great food, it was just food in general.
he smiled at your comment before shaking his head. “im going, ma’ y/n” he said and just like that he was gone.
three days had passed since neteyam left, you had seemed to only have been getting worse, your body was on fire, the headaches the came were so bad to the point you were crying, covering your eyes because the tinest bit of light irritated you.
everytime you stood up you felt unbalanced, you tried to eat the breakfast neteyam made you on the day he left, but it ended with you vomiting it up. you constantly felt dizzy and weak. unable to do anything.
you tried to sick to your normal daily routine with the minus of work, you hadn’t mentioned to neteyam you were sick, or anything about what mo’at had said, and you had mentioned to mo’at that neteyam was unable to care for you.
well he was able, you just didn’t ask. you hated asking for help, thats why you stayed in your hut.
but you were getting worse and worse.
it lasted another two days, the day neteyam returned had to have been the worse out of them all. as soon as you stood up, you were down, passed out.
neytiri had been helping in the healers tent due to mo’ats request. “it has been so busy without y/n” she said, which had confused neytiri.
“y/n hasn’t been working?” she asked, eyebrows furrowed.
“you do not know? y/n is sick, horribly sick. i do not know what is the matter, but i worry. neteyam is looking after her” mo’at said, neytiri’s eyes widened.
“neteyam is on a hunting trip, he has been all week” she said, mo’at turned. “please check the girl” she asked, neytiri nodded, it was so in your nature to not ask for help, she saw the way your face dropped , how hot you felt.
she rushed to your shared hut with neteyam, she noticed the hunting party return, neteyam was laughing along with his dad, any other day she would’ve taken the time to appreciate the moment, but she rushed into your home.
she gasped as she saw you, passed out on the ground, she also noticed the face your shoulders was bleeding, she looked at the bed frame neteyam had build, your blood stained on it, she figured you hit that on your way down.
despite that she leant down, picking your body up, she rushed to carry you back to mo’at, unfortunately, neytiri had caught jakes attention.
then she caught neteyam’s, and within a minute, both boys were at her side, neteyam’s eyes wide as he took your body from her, asking what had happened, jake was just as confused.
“she has been sick neteyam! apparently she was supposed to ask you to take the week off to look after her-mo’ats request but she never did!” neytiri said, as they rushed to mo’ats pod.
“stupid child” were mo’ats words as she saw your body, you were pale, bleeding, you looked sick.
neteyam was worried sick, how hadn’t he noticed, why didn’t you tell him? did you think he would say no? had he made you feel like that?
“what is the matter with her? is she okay?” he asked, placing you down softly. mo’at scowled at him, “you did not notice your mate ill!!” she slapped his hand away from you, despite knowing he was busy and you hadn’t told him.
“i know- i know, i am sorry. i am here now/ what is the matter?” he asked, full of guilt and responsibility, wanting nothing more than to care for you like he shouldve from the beginning.
“i think she has a cold, but she has been overworking herself, that is the reason for her passing out. she needs to be cared for.” she said? coming up with a summary,
hill
“take her home, you are both to have time off until she is completely healed and healthy and has been approved by me, do you understand me?” mo’at said sternly, eyes falling over the three sullies in the room, eyes stern on jake, telling him there eas nothing he could argue, neteyam would be staying home.
“take her home, wait for her to wake” she said, before passing him a jar, “put this on her chest if she isn’t awake within half an hour” his grandmother scolded, still in shock that he hadn’t noticed his mate was sick.
neteyam did as he was told, carrying you bridal style back to your hut, placing you on the bed, he took time to admire you. you were thin, sickly thin, your eyes were covered by dark circles, your skin was burning hot.
thankfully, before the half an hour was up, you had awoken, although in that time it took for you to awake, neteyam was in his own head, pacing the hut.
how had he missed that? how did he miss that his mate was ill, so ill to the point you had passed out.
why didn’t you tell him — he wondered. had he been so distant and busy that you no longer felt comfortable coming to him? were you worried he would not take time off to care for you, it made him feel sick to his stomach.
although you being sick wasn’t his fault — the fact it had gotten so bad, was.
when you woke, neteyam was preparing a cup of water. you however, did not remember passing out, in your mind, you assumed you had taken a nap, hence why you were in bed. although there was a stinging pain in your shoulder, one you did not remember having, was this another part of the sickness.
you hadn’t even noticed your mate in the hut when you woke up, you shuffled in the bed, getting ready to stand up, however when you did you were overwhelmed with a wooziness.
“ma y/n” neteyam cursed as he turned around, placing the cup down on the table, he rushed over to you, helping to balance you out. “you mustn’t leave bed” he scolded.
you furrowed your eyebrows, when did he get back?
and why was he worrying so much, last time you checked he had no idea you were sick.
you discard his scold, despite staying in bed, maybe he was just tired snd wanted to cuddle. however you felt a tingle in your stomach, not a good one either.
you ignore it, you were good at that. “how was the trip tey” you ask as he settled next to you on the bed, you had missed his company, even if sometimes it felt like it didn’t exist.
he scowled at your, why were you acting like nothing was wrong. “it was fine, y/n” he said sternly, you frowned, why was he upset.
“what is wrong?” you ask, the look his was giving you made your chest ache, did you do something? was he upset you didn’t greet him when he returned — that must be it
“im sorry i didn’t greet you, i must’ve fallen asleep, i am so sorry tey, id love to hear all about your trip” you say, despite everything in you telling you to shut up, talking was so much effort.
he frowned even more, “i am not upset about that y/n” you frowned now, the pair of you a mix of frowning messes.
“what did i go then, nete” he wanted to cry at how pained your voice sounded, your face was pale and your eyes drained from colour, not holding the usual lint of happiness like normal.
“you didn’t tell me” he said, his voice hardly above a whisper, you tilted your head in confusion. “what? what didn’t i tell you?” you ask, mind fuzzy.
he sighed, shaking his head. his hands found yours softly, pulling you closer to him, despite the way your skin was burning his, he didn’t care.
“that you were sick y/n, you didn’t tell me” he said, you furrow your eyebrows before your eyes widen, before returning to their normal size, you felt like you could sleep for a whole week, your head felt heavy, your stomach felt tight, everything hurt.
despite that, you shrug, “it isn’t bad nete, i am okay” you nod, voice convincing, but its really not. neteyam knows you better then that, but even he is second guessing that — why didn’t he fucking know, you shouldn’t of had to tell him, he is your mate he should just know.
“why do you lie” he asks, eyes squinted as his eyebrows furrow in a mix of annoyance and confusion. you squint at him, “i am okay neteyam.” you say.
he grows frustrated. “you are not okay, y/n. if you were okay i would not have returned to you being passed out in my mothers arms because you have been sick.” he said.
you tilt your head in confusion, you had passed out once a few days ago, was that what he had been talking about? did he have to come home early.
“oh nete— im sorry i didn’t mean to ruin your trip!!” you say, eyes filling with heavy guilt, he shook his head. “you didn’t. i came home today to my mother carrying you to grandmother, because you had passed out”
a simple oh leaves your mouth, as even more guilt seeps in, he seems to notice your expression. he grips your hands tighter. “you did not tell me you were sick” he said.
you went to talk but he cut you off “you also didn’t tell me you were bed rested” he said, you frown at his words, already knowing what was coming next.
“you didn’t tell me i was supposed to take days off to care for you”
you just chew your lip nervously, he shakes his head as he looks at you, while you look anywhere but at him.
“why didn’t you tell me” his voice cracks mid sentence, it makes your heart clench in your chest, its hard to remember the last week, all you can really remember is vomiting multiple times, and crying about the headache.
“you were excited about your trip, this is a big deal for you, i just didn’t wanna ruin it” your voice is small, you words are soft, as they leave your lips.
“you already do so much, i didn’t want to be the one to take something fun away from you.. or put more on you” you admit, his heart breaks.
it takes everything in him not to curse at himself, for making you feel as if you couldn’t tell him.
he failed, “fuck” he curses under his breath. “my girl” he says, looking at your face as you look down at your hands.
he has to remove his hand from yours, grabbing your chin to force you to look at him.
“angel, you are my number one priority, every fucking day. everything i do is for you. i know — i have obviously done a shitty job of showing that, but you should’ve told me, i could’ve helped you, now youre ten times worse” he says, tears fill your tired eyes.
“im sorry tey” you say as a hot tear rolls down your cheek. he immediately shakes his head.
“no, youre not allowed to be sorry, ma y/n. i shouldve known, i am your mate and i didn’t know you were ill, i left you here alone sick”
“i shouldve told you”
he nods, “you should’ve.”
you look down, his hand moves from your chin to your jaw. holding your face in his hand. “but i an here now, no matter what”
