Luz immediately gasps at the sight, but wastes no time taking you into her arms and holding you tightly. Like really tightly. She feels terrible that you were so miserable, to a point that you did this to yourself.

She goes on and on about how she wishes that she was there with you when it happened; to stop you, to comfort and listen to you, to do anything she could to make you feel better.

While Amity at first, is left speechless for a few seconds. But it isn’t a bad thing! She’s just so—dismayed that you’d do that, and why :( - so it overwhelmed her train of thought for a moment.

She loves you so much, and seeing her lover at such a state would leave her heartbroken D:

But then, she then comes and holds you as well. Less tighter though.

The two see how your scars were from so long ago, and you’ve implied how you’ve changed a lot since then. You’ve become happier, happier with them, and all your other new friends. So she and Luz see you’ve recovered.

Luz tells you that she’s so proud that you’ve managed to overcome it. And she’s like OVERJOYED that she and Amity were able to help you do that.

You’re being held in such a gingerly way, that you can’t help but feel so safe in their arms. It makes you feel like you can come to them about everything, and they’d happily listen.

All this while Luz pours her heart out to you, which makes you feel so loved and accepted.

Amity finds it cute and extremely thoughtful of her. She agrees with everything Luz says, about how she wishes they were both there to help you out before, and how they’re so glad they were with you throughout your journey of recovery.

After Luz’s finishes, Amity, still holding you, sweetly tells you that she’d absolutely annihilate who or whatever motivated you to hurt yourself in the first place. You and Luz couldn’t help but giggle, she said it so casually?

Luz then tells you how you can always talk to them whenever you felt like it. Whether you were energetic, sad, angry, whatever.

Amity nods and then assures you how they’d be right by your side to help you get through anything <3

You all can’t help but tear up a little and smile, it’s such a heartwarming moment.

When I see clients in therapy, I try to gently and respectfully find and draw out their wounded inner child. Almost all the time, defenses or facades (e.g. being funny/entertaining, sarcasm, workaholism, over-rationalizing, etc) are up to protect that extremely sensitive and deep layer of theirs. It's a delicate process to draw that part out and cannot be rushed. But if they choose to share that part of them in the space that I'm holding for them, it's really humbling.

So when an animated show (animation is the other thing I love in life and it's the career path I initially veered towards) tells its stories well, and importantly, respectfully handles fragile characters that are traumatized, it's fantastic when characters' inner thought processes are well-animated and I see the same kind of processes happening.

Hunter is exhausted. Being in survival mode that long and stuffing down the accumulating fear has caught up with him. That method of coping served its purpose (surviving) for so long, and he has run out of steam and it's no longer serving him well at all. If a person's trauma responses are somatic and manifesting physically, it's a telltale bad sign of the trauma's severity. I'm emotional seeing his wounded inner child peeking through as I looked through the relevant scenes frame by frame, versus the tough exterior he's had to construct to stay on task and avoid his uncle's disappointment the best he could. He may be 16, but deep down is a much younger kid who experienced a physical threat from Belos for the first time: who is frozen in that dark place until he connects with it and makes a substantial recovery T___T

Raine and Hunter have shared possession trauma albeit hunters is significantly worst due to his past and relations with Belos

I just imagine Raine being the person Hunter goes to about the specific emotional pain of the trauma since Raine expirienced first hand the possession and he just sits and sings for hunter

Hunter being the first to teach Eda how to help Raine on a particular bad day since I fully believe the possession is horrible on the joints so he teaches her how to care for Raines pains

Raine and hunter having each other on speed dial for when the panic attacks get particularly bad

Eda and Willow learning how to care for their traumatized Significant others

GODDAMIT I MISCLICKED ON AN ASK AGAIN WISJEK this was supposed to be a part of that!

While Mags is physically and emotionally recovering, he spends some time in the remote forest where the Animal Friends live. Away from his usual haunts; away from places that remind him too much of Meta and the Four. The other Allies that stayed by his side during Back to Zero visit him there too!

A sanctuary…a retreat. Full of song, dance, art, and…lots and lots of baked goods (bc Nago and Shiro love to make bread!!). Its like a ghibli movie in there. He deserves it.

(The piece, and the whole recovery arc, was inspired by a recent trip up a mountain region where I usually recharge. Was playing some Irish jigs while travelling up the misty road…good, good vibe that Mags probably experiences himself while hes recovering.)

At some point when I'm not bawling my eyes out and going through a slight spiral I'd like to make a post about how amazing The Owl House portrayed childhood trauma, familial trauma, and religious trauma in the show.

Literally I've been struggling with this shit for so long and I know that none of these characters actually exist but the character Hunter makes me feel less alone when my whole life I've felt like no one understands what its like to live like this and here is a character that almost too similarly has lived a life like mine (obviously minus magic and other stuff). And tbh theres gotta be someone out there that lived a life like that to have been an inspiration for Hunter because you can't just make that shit up.

I can go into all the actual science and research I've learned thus far while on my own c-PTSD recovery later but right now I needed to get this out because holy shit-

Random idea. When they were with Belos the Collector, shown to be able to manipulate their shadow form, deliberately slimmed down their figure because Belos kept saying their rounder look looked wrong, but in like, a manipulative way. So when he's around people who he knows doesn't give a shit he shifts into his more natural, rounder form.
