I love your work about the 141 gossiping about Ghost, love the concept of him having a “secret wife”.
Please please please write more with “secret wife y/n”, I beg of you. 🙏🏻
ANYTHING FOR YOU, ANON. <3 Ghost and secretwife!reader are my sweet babies I love them so much.
Tw: blond Simon & smiling Simon. Read at your own risk.
If there’s one thing Gaz knows how to do, it’s shut the fuck up. And if there was ever a time to employ that skill, it was now. Now after he’d been frozen watching the two of you reunite after a close call. After he’d discovered your dirty little secret. Suddenly feeling like Icarus after flying too close to the sun. Hurtling back down to earth. He was certain that when he moved there would be a crater under his feet where his stomach dropped.
He’d gone so green that another nurse came up and gently tugged on his arm to see if he was alright. He snapped his jaw shut, nodding and mumbling something that didn’t sound anywhere near reassuring. But he forced himself to leave the medbay. Left the two of you behind the curtain, where in his final glance back he saw that your feet were still neatly on top of Ghost’s big boots. Pushed up on your toes to be able to wrap your arms around his shoulders.
He made some excuse not to meet with you that evening. Could barely look you in the eye when you caught him in the hall, looking significantly more cheery than you had been that morning. You pried, asking if he was alright, feeling his forehead with the back of your hand, but he claimed the stress of their mission had just hit him and he really needed to sleep.
It took him weeks to get over the initial shock. Couldn’t stand next to Ghost during conditioning. Made a point of sitting catty-corner to him during meetings and in transit so he had the least chances of accidentally catching his eye. Feeling like he’d deeply bastardized the idea of ‘Ghost.’ Blurred the lines between the man Gaz knew and the man he was in private.
He tried to reason with himself. Keep it fresh in his mind that he’d seen the signs, just hadn’t been able to fully connect the dots by himself. And it was an accident. He’d never intentionally pry into either of your personal lives like that. It wasn’t in his character. There was nothing innately wrong with the two of you hiding a marriage. Probably would have been an HR nightmare. Gotten both of you re-stationed. He was certain you both had a good reason to hide it. And there was no better person to find out than him. He’d actually be able to keep it a secret. Soap would immediately run his mouth. Get on the intercoms and scream the news as loud as he could. Price would pull the both of you aside and try to have some heart-to-heart. Not that it wouldn’t have been nice, it just would have felt too forced. Wouldn’t have served any real purpose.
So eventually he gets over it. Never pressed you about your marriage again, and you never seemed too keen on following up his request from months ago. The dust settles in his mind. He shelves the information like an old book. Life goes on.
And then the weather turns. Starts getting colder. The first few weeks of cold after summer where the wind stings a little more. Finds it’s way through jackets and uniforms a little more artfully. Soldiers are catching ill and passing it around like it’s a competition of who can infect the entire base. The medbay is busy, but a different kind of busy than summer when it’s an optimal time to see missions through.
The medics are tasked with rounding up all the soldiers on base and issuing flu vaccines to hopefully prevent further spread. You trudge to Price’s office in the early morning. He notices you look a little pale. The rims of your eyes and tip of your nose are blotchy. A gentle shade of pink that he assumes is from the weather or the cold you were bound to catch. You chat for a bit, catch up because you haven’t had the opportunity for a few weeks. Let him know that he and the boys need to make their way to the bay for their shots at some point.
You feel a little woozy. Pressing into his doorframe for support, white-knuckling it to keep yourself from swaying in your spot. He looks a little concerned. Asks if you need to take a few days away to recoup. You wave him off, tell him it’s nothing you can’t handle, but he insists on walking you back to medbay. And he’s glad he did because on the short walk back you find yourself having to duck into a dark meeting room so you can vomit into a trash can.
He keeps a steadying arm wrapped around your waist when you stumble back out into the hall. Shaking his head when you profusely apologize. Slowing his normally long strides so you were comfortable. Gently lets you down on your own cot and instructs you to stay where you are while he goes to find a few other doctors that can delegate your work for the day between them so you can have the day off.
He sends you home despite your protest. You’d already gotten your color back. Claimed you must’ve had something off to eat. He wasn’t having it. Said he wouldn’t have his best doctor spreading sick because she’s too stubborn to get off her feet for a few hours. He’s a bit more stern than usual because he knows you won’t listen otherwise, but he brings you a ginger ale and sits next to your bed until you’ve finished it.
Later that day, when he and the boys finally get around to the bay for vaccines, he notices the way Ghost’s eyes dart around like he was looking for something. His shoulders tensing when he sees your station empty, and moments after he’s taken his shot, Price sees that he’s slunk off to a corner to make a phone call.
He doesn’t think much of it. He’s been trying to give Ghost some space. So he just shrugs it off. Let’s him finish up whatever he’s doing before they get back to work.
The boys have gotten in the habit of taking a week off as the snow melts. Just before Spring brings rain and the soft buds of new leaves on the trees. Unofficial tradition proposed early on to have a few more days rest before things inevitably picked up again. Usually gave the boys time to kick off to visit family or get some well needed time away from base. Get in a well needed break because God knew they wouldn’t be able to for the foreseeable future.
Soap finds himself a little North of Manchester in his time off. Went out to see his godparents in Bolton for a couple days before getting back up to Iverness to see his parents. Meandering through a supermarket to pick up a bottle of wine for his godmother and a bottle of bourbon for himself. Could have sworn he saw Simon turning a corner at the end of the aisle. Chalked it up to a trick of the light. Seeing things after months of close quarters with his L.T.
But then he saw the man again. Stood in line at the butcher’s counter. No mask, but the same crooked nose and cropped blond hair. Same scar hooking his jaw. Swapped out his uniform and gear for a thick leather jacket, white shirt, and a pair of jeans. Would have been unrecognizable if Johnny didn’t know him so well.
He was about to head over to say hello. Make some wise crack about Ghost missing him too much, but he was stilled for a moment when a woman approached Simon. Pushed her cart up next to him and nudged his side with her hip. Prompted him to give her a small smile- the only smile Soap had ever seen Simon grace anyone with. No teeth, just a curve of his lips, but it changed his face completely.
Ghost said something to the woman. She reached up to fuss with the collar of his jacket. Johnny saw her shoulders shake slightly and heard the quiet tinkling sound of her laughter. Completely shell shocked. So imagine his surprise when the woman turned away from Ghost and it was you. Only you looked wildly different. He knew your face well enough, but after almost six months not going to the medbay on a weekly basis, something had changed.
Even wearing an oversized sweatshirt he could see the way it pulled taught against your swollen belly. Saw the way your arm was cradling it like second nature. He didn’t even realize that the bottle of wine had slipped from his fingers until he watched Simon’s head snap toward the sound. Ears perked. Tense like he’d suddenly flashed onto the battlefield. His eyes went wild for a moment as he scanned the busy aisle, calmed only a degree when he found you.
It’s like that Spider-Man meme where the three of them meet and point at each other. Johnny’s smiling sheepishly (for once), your jaw is dropped in surprise, and Simon is glaring daggers at Johnny like somehow it was his fault that you were all in the same place at once. You’re the first one to move. Rushing up to him as quickly as you could- now moving a bit awkwardly with the disproportionate weight of your pregnancy on your front. Asking if he was alright. Grabbing his hands to make sure the glass hadn’t cut him.
Simon tailed you like a hulking shadow. Glowering down at Soap something fucking ferocious. Didn’t even give him time to tell you he was fine. Pulling you back behind his arm by the wrists with a kind of gentleness Johnny had never known the L.T. to possess. You twisted your face in displeasure, batting his hands away and stepping back out from behind the wall that was your husband. Ignoring the wine and the soft crunch of glass under your shoes.
And to Soap’s absolute bafflement, Simon stood down. Didn’t try to yank you back, didn’t voice his protest, just drew his mouth into a hard line and let you push past him. He was speechless. For what well may have been the first time in his life, John MacTavish had no words. Couldn’t apologize for the mess. Couldn’t crack a joke. Couldn’t even say hello. He was pure dead at a loss.
Somehow, he allowed you to guide him away from the mess he’d made- staining the waxed tile a muted crimson even after the disgruntled looking employee came over to mop it up. Found his voice in your tugging him along after you and Simon to the checkout where you insisted you’d pay for the bottle of bourbon he’d managed not to send careening to the ground. Tried to tell you no, but you’d already sent it down the belt. And by the time you’d rooted through your purse in search of your card, Simon had already finished paying and was tucking his wallet into his back pocket.
Shuffled out with the two of you into the car park. Making a point of putting distance between himself and Simon who was pushing the cart with one hand and had the other planted firmly on the small of your back. Always walking on the side of oncoming traffic.
Johnny tried to keep up with your conversation. Asking him about his break. Where he was staying and for how long. How had he been. But it was tense. He could feel Ghost’s eyes on the back of his head. Burning through him. Making him feel like he had a target tacked to his skull.
He said a quick goodbye when Ghost helped you into the passenger seat of your car. You said you’d see him soon enough, said if he had any extra time before they went back he’d have to come by for dinner. Simon closed the door before you could say anything else. Looking monumentally irked.
The two men stood in suffocating silence while Simon unloaded the groceries into the trunk. Johnny tried to ignore the glinting of the silver band on the L.T’s finger. Caught the light every time he set a new bag in the back. A little unsure if he was being dismissed or if Ghost was just waiting until he was certain you wouldn’t hear the lashing he was bound to receive.
But it all stayed relatively calm. Maybe the eye of the hurricane. Simon pushed the bottle of bourbon into his chest before swinging the trunk shut.
“Appreciate if you’d keep this between us.”
Ghost spoke first, the words sounding a bit sticky in his throat- like they didn’t want to come out.
“‘Course.”
Johnny’s voice wasn’t much better. Both of them shifted on their feet. Not use to this kind of conversation. Uncomfortable being pushed from their usual dynamic.
Simon just nodded, moving to push the cart back to the corral. Johnny followed.
“How long you been keepin’ this in?”
“Which bit.”
His response was flat.
“Dinnae, L.T. Seems yer a man o’ mystery these days.”
Soap prodded, unable to help himself. A smile crept into his voice.
“Don’t push it.”
Simon bit back.
“Bonnie thing for a brute like you.”
“Johnny.”
“Looks ready’ta pop.”
A harsh sigh from Ghost. He reached into his jacket pocket like he was going for a cigarette. Tightening his jaw when his hand showed back up empty. He hummed his agreement.
“Few months.”
They’d reached Johnny’s car by this point. Just a few rows over in the car park. Stood by his driver’s side door shuffling their feet once more.
“Ken it’ll turn out like you?”
He couldn’t help but ask. Never pictured Ghost the fatherly type, but the idea was growing on him now that it’d been planted in his mind.
“Hope not.”
Simon gruffed back. Johnny snorted.
“Boy o’ girl?”
This earned him a nasty look, but he figured he was in deep enough as it was. No harm in asking.
“Girls.”

“Hey Luna?” Hermione called from her bedroom. She and her friend had spent the day discussing her feelings for Ron and trying their best to help her get over him. Apparently recounting the horrors of their relationship was not helping in the slightest.
“Yeah,” Luna called back from the kitchen.
“Do you remember where the pygmy puff food is?” Her muffled voice sounded rushed and anxious, even more so than Hermione usually was.
“Yeah, it’s under the front counter of Fred and George’s shop. Why?”
Luna turned her head to see Hermione come flying into the room dragging a packed suitcase behind her. “Because I’m going to New York.”
The pregnant girl nearly had a heart attack at Hermione’s declaration. “What? What do you mean you’re going to New York?”
Hermione grabbed a few more essentials from around the apartment, rushing in order to catch the next flight. “Yeah, I have to tell Ronald that I love him. Now Luna, you take care, you don’t have those babies until I get back.”
“I--but what about all of the finding his flaws and burning his picture rituals we’ve been doing?” Luna asked, straining to stand up and chase after her friend.
Hermione easily moved past the slow-moving girl, zipping up her bag and heading to the door. “Yeah, that didn’t work. I know he loves Lavender but I have to tell him how I feel! He deserves to have all of the information and then he can make an informed decision.”
Phoebe shook her head and continued to hobble around the room. “No, Hermione, it’s too late, you missed your chance! I’m sorry, I know this must be really hard, it’s over.”
The other girl paused for a moment and took a deep breath. “Y’know what? No. It’s not over until someone says ‘I do.’” And with that she took off out of the apartment and to the streets of Diagon Alley, on her way to another country to declare her love for Ron Weasley.
------------------------------
“Would you look at this place,” George sighed in awe, staring around at the beautifully decorated dinner hall. There were chandeliers hanging everywhere and everyone was dressed in clothes that looked like they cost more than everything the Weasleys owned combined. Fred and George twisted uncomfortably in their mediocre suits. Sure, they were successful businessmen with some money to spare, but they could never compete with this.
“Holy shit,” you said, coming up behind the twins. They turned around, startled to see you suddenly appear. Fred took a second to look you up and down, mouth hanging slightly open in surprise.
“Holy shit is right, Y/N,” he said. “You look bloody amazing!” You glanced down at your outfit, a slim fitting long dress that hugged your form perfectly. You smiled and did a little twirl for the boys who whooped and whistled at you.
“While I appreciate the compliment,” you said, “I was talking about the hall. How rich is Lavender’s family anyway?”
Fred shrugged. “Apparently loaded. I mean, it’s not like our family could ever compete with this. How Ron was able to pull someone this high up is a mystery to me.”
He and George picked at their clothes self consciously, trying to straighten their ties and smooth out their suits.
“Oh come now,” you said, “you two are perfectly successful. Who cares if the Browns could afford to buy all of London if they wanted to? Let’s just enjoy the night and eat all of the expensive food they bought!”
“Y/N, you’re my dream girl,” Fred said, putting his arm around your waist. “If you ever want to marry a Weasley, I’d be happy to oblige.”
“I appreciate the offer, Weasley, but I do think George and I would be a couple to be reckoned with.”
“Ha! Suck it Fred, I get Y/N and you’re stuck alone,” George said, kissing your cheek and stealing you away from his brother.
Fred was about to reply when a loud voice echoed through the room and everyone turned to see a short red haired woman come hurtling through the door.
“Mum!” cried Ron from across the room. He grabbed Lavender’s hand and they made their way over where you and the twins were standing, now accompanied by the latest arrivals, Molly and Arthur Weasley.
“Sweetheart!” Molly squealed, pulling him into a tight hug. “Oh sorry we’re late, Muggle transportation is such a hassle, especially in this country. Your father spent 20 minutes trying to figure out how to call a taxi and he wouldn’t stop asking the driver everything you could ask!”
“I still never got an answer to my rubber duck question,” Arthur grumbled before a warm smile appeared on his face. “Hello, Lavender, it’s lovely to see you again.”
“You as well!” she said before hugging Arthur and then Molly. “Oh, Mr. and Mrs. Weasley, here come my parents.”
Sure enough, two very wealthy looking people were walking over to join their daughter and future son in law.
“Hello, hello,” said Lavender’s father, shaking the hands of the Weasleys. “How do you do? Very nice to meet all of you.” He glanced over at his wife. “Darling, it’s the Weasleys.”
“Sorry, what?,” she said, finally looking up at the family, a hint of distaste in her gaze. “Oh, lovely to meet you.” Her snobby look never faltered, making the rest of the Weasley clan even more uncomfortable.
Arthur cleared his throat. “It’s great to meet you both. I’m sorry we couldn’t help pay for much of the wedding, but we hope that we can at least cover the cost of dinner tonight.”
“Yes of course,” said Molly. “We know how expensive weddings can be, besides this may be the last time I watch one of my sons get married.”
Fred and George rolled their eyes at their mother, who wouldn’t stop pestering them to settle down since Bill, Percy, and now Ron were all either married or close to it.
“We’ve heard the complaints, mum,” said Fred.
“But hey, at least we’re saving you money!” George said.
“And not giving me grandchildren,” she mumbled, but loud enough for everyone to hear.
You decided to jump in and defend your friends. “At least you’ve still got other kids who are starting their own families, Molly. And besides, do you really want to have these two bring little Fred’s and George’s into the world?”
Molly smiled and put her hand on your shoulder. “I suppose you’re right dear. They were, and still are, quite a handful.”
“Hey!” they both shouted, clearly offended.
You giggled and wandered off with Molly, telling her the latest stories of the many troubles the twins had gotten into.
------------------------------
Hermione, never one for athletics, was suddenly an Olympic sprinter, flying down the halls of the London airport. She reached the ticket counter, cutting off some very angry travelers, and threw her bags onto the scale.
After a few long seconds of leaning over and catching her breath, she finally muttered a “hi” to the ticket agent.
“Hello,” she replied cheerfully.
“Oh, umm, hello!” Hermione replied, mirroring the chipperness of the agent. “When is your next flight to New York City?”
“There’s one leaving in 30 minutes,” she replied.
“Oh, thank Godric,” she muttered, earning herself a few odd looks from passersby at her unique choice of language.
The woman behind the counter typed a few things into her computer. “The last minute fare on this ticket is twenty seven hundred dollars.”
Hermione reached around in her purse, fumbling with gold and silver coins. “How about galleons?” she asked.
“I’m sorry?”
“Nevermind,” Hermione sighed, sprinting off again to apparate to Diagon Alley and exchange her galleons for Muggle money. There was no way she was going to miss this flight.
------------------------------
“I’d like to make a toast!” Fred announced, standing up from his table with a wine glass in hand. “Ron and Lavender. Of course, my big toast will be tomorrow at the wedding, so this is kind of my little toast or Melba toast, if you will.”
He was only met with silence and you and George very visibly facepalmed.
“Okay…” he continued hesitantly. “I’ve known Ron for a long time. His whole life, actually. See I got the first two years of my life without my baby brother, but nope he’s always had me, and I know he’s so incredibly grateful for that.”
When once again there was no reaction, Fred decided it was time to up the performance.
“I remember when Ron was going out with his first girlfriend. And I thought things were going to work out for him. Until the day he over inflated her!” Fred winked at his little brother, whose face was redder than his hair. For the third time in the last minute Fred did not get anywhere close to the reaction he had expected. “Oh dear Godric…”
“How about I take over for you, Freddie.” George said, taking the microphone from his slightly older brother. “Everyone knows I am the more charming twin, isn’t that right?” He was met with some soft giggles and a whoop from one of the bridesmaids sitting a few tables away. Fred begrudgingly plopped down into his seat, leaning his head on your shoulder as he pouted for the rest of the dinner.
As everyone finished their speeches, you giving one about your friendship with Ron that even brought Molly to tears, you found yourself sprawled out on a fancy couch still consoling Fred.
“I was laughing,” you said while patting him on the knee.
“Out loud?” he asked, crossing his arms and shoving your hand away.
You looked down at your wine glass guiltily. “Well I didn’t want everyone to think I was stupid.” Fred groaned and buried his face in his hands, ruffling his hair in frustration that you knew went deeper than a few poor jokes. “Hey, how are you doing?”
He looked up at you questioningly, cocking his head to the side. “What do you mean?”
“Don’t try to hide it from me, Freddie, I can tell when something’s bothering you, and I know it’s not just that your jokes sucked arse.”
“No, the audience sucked arse, I’m fucking hilarious.” You kicked him lightly, urging him to tell you. With a long sigh Fred sat up and turned to face you, his big brown eyes void of their usual cheerful gleam. “Mum’s driving me crazy! I mean, I get it, she wants me to get married and settle down and have kids, but she has 6 other children, two of them with kids of their own already! I don’t know, this whole wedding thing has just put a lot more pressure on me, that’s all.”
You tenderly rubbed his shoulder, feeling him relax slightly at your touch. “Don’t listen to her, ok? Marriage isn’t for everyone. Same with kids. You’re independent and carefree, and you shouldn’t feel like you have to settle down if you don’t want to.”
He mumbled something under his breath, too quiet for you to hear. “What?”
“I said…” he began slowly, “I said that it’s not that. It’s the complete opposite actually.”
Fred glanced across the room at his youngest brother holding hands with his fiancée and whispering something into her ear. “It’s just...he’s my younger brother. He’s Ron, for Merlin’s sake! How did Ron get a girl before me?”
“Aww, is Freddie jealous of his little brother?” you teased, knocking your shoulder into his. When he didn’t answer you tried to sober up, not used to seeing this side of Fred.
“I’m 26, Y/N,” he cried out. “And I know that’s not old or anything, but I just figured I’d have my life together by now. Maybe a long term girlfriend, or even--” he paused for a moment, continuing to watch Ron and Lavender. “--or maybe it would’ve been me walking down the aisle with someone I love.”
“Come here, love,” you cooed as you pulled Fred into your chest. “You know there’s no rush. Sure Ron’s getting married, but I think he found himself the only person in the world who’d ever date him and he had to tie her down quick.”
Fred shuddered into your chest with a small laugh, bringing his hands up to aimlessly play with your hair. “Yeah,” he said, “and we all know that the girls are lined up just waiting for me. I guess I’ve got time.”
“Exactly. And plenty of it.” Fred continued to play with your hair as you did the same with his, occasionally scratching at his scalp and listening to the quiet whimpers he would let out.
He shifted so he was looking up at you, mere inches away from your face. “Y’know, you’ve been acting strange lately too. What’s bugging you?”
“It’s nothing Freddie, I--”
“Uh uh.” He shook his head. “I poured my heart and soul out to you, the least you could do is do the same to me.”
Sighing, you checked around you to make sure no one would be able to overhear. “Promise you won’t tell Ron? I don’t want it to make anything weird in our relationship.”
Fred snapped his head between you and his younger brother, eyes growing wide as he jumped to the nearest possible answer. “You’re bloody in love with him, aren’t you?!”
“What?” you asked, laughing at the ridiculous accusation. “No! Oh, no no no, not at all! I’ve known him since we were 11, and trust me, watching young Ronnie throw up slugs will turn anyone off of him.”
Fred smiled down at you and breathed a sigh of relief, glad that you weren’t getting your heart broken by being at the wedding. “So what is it then? Promise I won’t tell, swear on George’s life.”
You rolled your eyes but snuggled up next to him, feeling much more comfortable with your best friend as close as possible. “Fine. You’re not the only one having to deal with parent problems. Like I said I’ve been friends with Ron since my family first found out I was a witch. My parents, being Muggles, immediately fell in love with your family, and Ron as well whenever he would come to visit over the summer. My mum has this whacked out idea that it should be me that’s marrying him tonight. She’s so disappointed, told me I’m passing up the best thing that’s ever happened to me. But he’s just Ron! I could never see him like that. He’s like a brother to me.”
Fred sat silently throughout your whole rant, rubbing small circles over your knuckles with his thumb. When it seemed you had finally finished, Fred had no idea what to say. He had never been the comforting sort and had always managed to make it worse. As he did this time as well.
“Do you see me like that too?”
You looked at him with scrunched eyebrows, trying to understand how he decided on that as a response.
“As a brother, I mean.” He stuttered through his words. “Am I just another brother to you?”
“‘Course you are, Freddie. I love you like family.” He gazed at you lovingly, wondering what he had done to have a friend like you in his life.
“How about this then?” he asked. “How about, since your mom wants you to marry a Weasley, if by the time we’re both 40 and still single, why don’t we marry each other?”
He looked so sweet offering this to you, so kind and thoughtful. You knew that the deal would benefit him as well, but to you it felt like he was doing this only for you. And you knew he would do anything for you.
“I appreciate the offer, but I actually only promised George the same thing,” you said, making Fred’s jaw drop and a scowl appear on his face.
“George! My own bloody twin? How could you, Y/N? I revoke my proposal.”
“I’m practically in tears,” you said stoically. Deciding it was time to go out and mingle instead of throwing yourselves a pity party, you grabbed Fred’s hand and made your way over to find George, only to be stopped by a very obviously drunk man.
He put a hand on your shoulder which made both you and Fred tense up. “I just want to say,” he said through slurred speech, “that Ron is a wonderful young man.”
Fred eased his grip on your hand a little bit, sensing that this man wasn’t going to do anything to you. You gave him a thankful look before turning your attention back to the hammered American. “Well thanks, we like him.”
The man stepped closer to examine your face, his booze breath going straight up your nose. It took all you had not to throw up because of it.
“My God!” he exclaimed, “you two must’ve been teenagers when you had him!”
You and Fred both stared straight ahead, insecurities and doubts increasing tenfold at the misunderstanding. You gritted your teeth and held back from slapping the man, who luckily made his way to another table to insult someone else.
Fred turned you to face him and gripped your shoulders tight, leaning down so he was eye to eye with you. “The guy was hammered, okay? There’s no way that you look like Ron’s mum. Nor I his dad for that matter!”
“Then why would he say it?” you grumbled, pushing Fred away from you and going to get rid of your sadness by gorging on some food.
“Because he’s crazy!”
“Oh, my mother’s right. I’m never going to get married.”
“Ahh, you know what?” Fred touched the small of your back softly, turning you around to face him, his breath growing heavy in exasperation. “This is...who wouldn’t want you?”
------------------------------
The next morning, the biggest day of Ron’s life, he was racing down the hallways practically bouncing off the walls. He was getting married. After a failed relationship with Padma years before, Ron had finally been able to heal and pour his love onto someone else. Lavender Brown.
Sure, the relationship had moved fast. Really fast, actually. They had only been together for a few months before Ron popped the question, to which a very ecstatic Lavender happily agreed. He knew it was unorthodox. He knew it was impulsive. But he didn’t care. Because someone loved him.
He shot through the door of Fred and George’s hotel room, making Fred jolt awake with a start.
“I’m getting married today!” he screamed. “Whoo-hoo!”
Fred scrambled around in the bed sheets for a few seconds before scowling at his brother. “Morning, Ron.”
“I’m getting married. To-day!” he said, ignoring the annoyed looks Fred was shooting him.
Relaxing a little Fred smiled. “Yeah you are!”
Ron jumped around and sprinted out of the room, screaming as he ran down the hall to announce his feelings to all of the other hotel guests.
The bed in which Fred was sleeping shifted once again, but it wasn’t Fred’s doing. You shot up from under his covers, holding the blankets to cover your naked chest and panting heavily in worry. “Do you think he knew I was here?”
Fred slowly shook his head, refusing to make eye contact with you. He shifted in the bed, his leg accidentally brushing yours. You yelped and he quickly moved away, apologizing profusely.
After a long awkward silence, Fred finally spoke. “Well, I’ve--I’ve never done that with you before.”
“Nope,” you replied, popping the ‘p’ and sinking down further into the bed, trying to disappear.
“So, ahh, how are you?” he said slowly. “You okay?”
You nodded, clutching the sheets so hard that your knuckles were turning white. “Yep, yep. You?”
“Yes, yes, uh huh. You?” The two of you finally made eye contact, faces equal shades of vermillion. “We did you. I did you. I--umm, sorry not the time.”
It got quiet once again. You let out a long breath, wondering how you were supposed to move on from sleeping with your best friend. You wanted to blame the alcohol from last night, but neither of you were drunk. You’d only had one glass of wine, just enough to make you a little more confident than normal. Apparently that was enough to do the trick.
“Well… I’d better get going,” you told him, starting to sit up before remembering you and Fred were both naked under the sheets.
“Oh, yea yea, absolutely,” he stammered, gesturing for you to leave.
“Could you not look, please?”
“I don’t want to look.” Fred covered his eyes, not even pretending to peak through them. It was uncomfortable enough as it is, he really didn’t want to be joking around at the moment.
You slowly slid off the bed, taking a moment to let what had happened last night fully sink in. Had you ruined your friendship with Fred? Was it going to be this weird from now on? You hustled to grab your clothes from yesterday, ready to complete the infamous walk of shame. Thankfully, your room was just down the hall so any chances of you being caught were slim. All you had to do was put on a happy face for the wedding, pretend to enjoy yourself, and forget any of this ever happened. Yeah, that would work. Right?
------------------------------
Lavender’s eyes went wide as she took in the scene around her. The wedding hall was absolutely gorgeous, decorated in elegant fairy lights and flowers hanging from baskets on the ceiling. It was like she was a princess in her own personal fairy tale.
She spun around in her wedding dress, not even caring about the weird looks some of her parents’ friends were giving her. She never cared for them, or the family status, anyway. She just wanted to live her life as her own person, taking each step with someone she loved holding her hand.
“Hey.” Lavender was interrupted by the voice of her lover, standing bashfully a few feet away with his hands in his pockets.
“Ron!” she chastised playfully. “You’re not supposed to see me in my wedding dress, it’s bad luck!”
“I think we’ve had all the bad luck we’re going to have.” Lavender grinned and jumped into Ron’s arms, giggling as he swung her around. He finally put her down kissing the top of her head as he did so.  “I’ll see you in a few hours, when you’re finally mine forever.”
“It can’t come soon enough.” The brunette was then distracted by Parvati calling her name, so she bid Ron goodbye and skipped over to her maid of honor.
She didn’t notice the unexpected guest standing at the end of the aisle, listening to their entire conversation. Or maybe if she did, she chose to ignore it. After all, her and Ron’s bad luck was over. She was finally getting the one thing she wanted most in life. To be loved.
Ron stared longingly at the girl he loved so deeply talk to her best friend, before the same unexpected guest that Lavender hadn’t noticed caught his eye. “Oh Merlin, Hermione!”
He ran up to her and kissed her on the cheek, ecstatic that his friend had decided to come to New York for his wedding. “You’re here. I can’t believe it! What happened? Why are you here?”
Hermione took a quick glance over at where Lavender was standing. She had seen everything. Heard it all. She knew how much they both cared for each other, and who was she to stand in the way of their love? She had missed her chance with Ron, but Lavender hadn’t.
“Well I just came…” She touched his chest right near his heart, tears threatening to spill. “I just needed to tell you…”
She couldn’t do it. It wasn’t fair to either of them. Hermione took a deep breath and put on a fake smile. “Congratulations.”
Ron grabbed her tightly and hugged her with all of his strength, tears of joy pooling in his eyes. Tears continued to grow in Hermione's, but for completely different reasons. Today was the day everything changed. Today her chance was gone. Forever.
------------------------------
If the chapel was beautiful before, it was even more extravagant with all of the lights lit up and the band playing soft, romantic music. Any normal day you would’ve enjoyed the site, wishing that someday you could have a wedding just like this. But unfortunately the only thing on your mind was the events of the previous night.
“Ready?” George whispered to you, getting ready to walk one of the other bridesmaids down the aisle. He could tell something was wrong, but he didn’t want to push you. You nodded your head, sending your friend a thumbs up before it was his turn to make his walk.
“Ready?” asked a nearly identical voice to the one before. Fred stood behind you, his hair styled for once and his clothes neatly pressed and cleaned. He did clean up well, you had to admit. But, not that you would ever say this to anyone, you quite liked it better when he wasn’t wearing anything at all.
“I’m ready.” He linked his arm in yours, guiding you slowly down the dimly lit aisle.
Fred couldn’t help but steal a few glances at you. Your eyes were focused straight ahead, refusing to look at anything except the alter at the end of the walk. If you just made it to the end of the walk, everything would be ok. Everything would be over. But maybe Fred didn’t want everything to be over, just not yet. He sucked in a breath and decided to take a chance.
“What he did last night,” he whispered, slowing down as to elongate the conversation as much as possible.
“Stupid,” you muttered.
“Totally crazy stupid!” Fred got a few rude glances at his loud volume, so he checked himself before continuing. “I...I’m coming over tonight though, right?”
Your breath hitched in your chest. You were so close to the end of the aisle. You could ignore him and ignore whatever was going on between the two of you. It could all go back to normal, just a few more steps.
But your heart took over, and you said something that you knew future you might regret, but you didn’t care. It was worth the risk.
“Oh yeah, definitely.”
Fred squeezed your arm as you made your last steps to the front of the chapel, separating and taking your places in the rows of wedding participants.
You scanned the crowd, seeing Hermione fidgeting nervously in her seat. You felt awful for what she must be going through, but proud that she decided to accept it. Hermione was tough, that was for sure. She could handle anything.
“Friends. Family. We are gathered to celebrate here today the joyous union of Ron and Lavender. May the happiness we share with them today be with them always. Now Lavender, repeat after me. I, Lavender.”
“I, Lavender,” she said with a grin so big it looked like it would jump right off her face.
“Take thee Ron,” the minister continued.
“Take thee Ron.”
“As my lawfully wedded husband, in sickness and in health, till death parts us.”
“As my lawfully wedded husband, in sickness and in health, till death parts us.”
She giggled and squeezed Ron’s hands tighter, mere seconds away from being united with the one she loved oh so much.
“Now Ron,” said the minister, turning to the groom. “Repeat after me. I Ron…”
George winked at him and Fred gestured for him to speak. No matter how much they teased their little brother, they were so proud of him for finding someone to spend the rest of his life with. “I Ron…”
“Take thee, Lavender…”
“Take thee, Hermione…”
Gasps filled the room. You covered your mouth and looked out to the crowd at Hermione, who looked as if she had seen a ghost. Fred and George started whispering frantically to each other and Molly seemed as if she was about to either faint or slap Ron into another country.
But nothing compared to Lavender’s reaction. She stood there, frozen, hands going numb in the grip of the person she thought loved her. The one who only thought of her. The one who chose her.
“Lavender!” Ron corrected, nervously chuckling in order to hide the growing humiliation. “Lavender.”
The minister looked between the bride and groom, having no idea where to go from there. “Uhh...shall I go on?”
Hermione couldn’t take her eyes off of Ron. He had just said her name. Her name. Not Lavender’s. Hers.
What was supposed to happen next?

First Year Daddies (+ Kyoutani!)
Tumblr media
I’m trying to spread out my requests—I have a whole bunch of Kuroo ones that I swear he is my most requested person. So let’s take a break from our beloved rooster and get some daddies up in this! That being said, this will kinda be a part 2 to Karasuno as dads, with the addition of our beloved Mad Dog. @dreamyjaems you know what’s up.
Tumblr media
Kageyama;
Alright, let’s redeem Kags cause I did him dirty last time.
It took him sometime to get used to being a parent, but when he finally got it down, he loved every second of it.
Your daughter, now five years old, loves daddy just as much as he loves her.
Now that you’d gone back to work and the two of you had some semblance of a schedule, Kageyama was 100% in charge of childcare while you worked in the morning.
Lucky break for the two of you that Kags didn’t start practice until the afternoon, giving him time to take your little girl to kindergarten with you picking her up.
It was the same routine every morning—mommy goes to work and daddy makes pancakes while putting on Disney movies.
Always a short stack and he made sure to cut it up just the way his little girl liked it—into 16 pieces. Yes, 16. No more, no less.
Your daughter was a lucky little bugger, getting her fathers thick, silky hair. By this age, it’s incredibly long and Kags always brushes it and does it nicely before taking her to school, then off to work he goes.
His locksreen is definitely a picture of him and his daughter. It gets him through the day.
After picking up your child from school, you help her with homework since Kags won’t be home until later.
Sometimes, it really shocks you just how lucky the two of you got for having such a well behaved kid—super low maintenance, doesn’t really cause trouble. That is, until she starts missing her dad.
Yes, she is a hardcore daddy’s girl 💀
Usually, it’s around dinner time that she gets fussy because Kageyama will be waking through the door any minute and that minute canNOT pass soon enough. She’s more like you than you think.
“Hi sweetie,” you call out while you know for a fact he’s scooping up his little bean in his arms before coming to give you a kiss. Routine was nice that way.
The three of you go about your evening as per usual—having dinner together, you giving your little one a bath and Kageyama reading her to bed so that the two of you can cuddle up on the couch before turning in for the evening.
After he finishes reading, he joins you for your quiet time, seeing that you’re watching a movie and drinking a glass of wine. “I wanted to talk to you about...something.” He says stiffly. You quirk a brow at him after hitting pause, patiently waiting for him to continue. “How...how would you feel about having another one?”
“Another glass of wine? Hell yeah.”
“[name], no. Another kid.” Oh. Well, this is a shocking turn of events. Kageyama, the barely legal adult that initially had no idea whether or not was ready to be a father, wanted another child.
“Are you sure, Tobio?” Was all you responded with.
“Obviously, since I’m asking you,” there’s a twinge in his voice that you aren’t sure you’ve heard before. Not quite begging, per se. perhaps imploring was a better word for it? “I love our family and I just want it to keep growing.”
This was such a far cry from the man that Kageyama Tobio was six years ago when you first found out you were pregnant, and you would be lying if you said that his admission didn’t turn you on in the slightest.
“Well we’ve got some work to do then, buddy.”
Tumblr media
Hinata;
Hinata Shoyo finally got his wish. With his son, now 10, and daughter, now 8, your youngest daughter was nearing her terrible twos.
There was nothing more in the world that your newest baby loved more than daddy.
It was actually kind of irritating, actually, because if Shoyo wasn’t home, she would cry and throw temper tantrums until your husband walked through the door.
Shit, it even irritated your other two kids who, in order to avoid it all, would usually be at their friend’s houses doing homework and hanging out until they knew their dad would be home.
If only you were able to do the same.
The second that Sho walked through the door, every sound in the Hinata household ceases, as if your toddler wasn’t just screaming her lungs out moments ago.
“Hi, princess! Did you miss daddy today? I know I missed you a whole bunch!”
On god, he is such a good dad it hurts. He’s gotten even better since the addition of the youngest.
“Hi sweetheart,” you greet with a quick peck onto his lips. His daughter, and yes very specifically the almost two-year-old is his daughter, grunts in discomfort despite being held by dad. She doesn’t like the fact that you took dad’s attention away for a second. “Oh, quiet you.” You grumble at her.
“[name]! Be nice to angel!” You roll your eyes at him instead. As if you haven’t raised your last two kids, who were now walking in the door. “Come on, pumpkin, let’s go get some food in our bellies!”
Hinata places her in her high chair, obnoxiously making little airplane noises as he feeds her. Spoiled little brat.
“Mom,” your son starts cautiously, looking back and forth between his father and baby sister. “Was dad always like this?” He asks, referring to the overly enthusiastic train noises your husband was making.
“No, honey.”
“Okay, just making sure he hasn’t been a dork our entire lives.”
“Oh, that? Yeah.”
Tumblr media
Tsukishima;
It needs to be reiterated, you felt, that Tsukki is an amazing father.
Your oldest and Kei’s step-daughter, now 12, and your youngest daughter, now 7, would vehemently agree.
They never did actually grow out of the habit of calling him Tsukki, as opposed to dad. Though when speaking to other people, they both referred to him as their father.
It was quite endearing, actually. Your family was happy with the way things were, even if they were slightly unconventional.
Sunday mornings were family days—an adamant rule in the Tsukishima household. Kei would be in charge of making breakfast while you and the girls blasted some upbeat music while tidying up your rooms.
While Kei does not find Kesha and Lizzo to be “the classics” as you so put it while you cleaned, he did find it amusing to see all three Tsukishima women dancing and singing while cleaning.
Lowkey, it warmed his heart to know these were the three women of his life.
Kei is still the same protective dad he was even before having his own child—it only got worse when your oldest started showing an interest in the opposite gender.
Ya know how he wasn’t afraid to fight a toddler for his little girl? He’s definitely not afraid to fight some middle school punk.
Especially when your oldest comes home bawling her eyes out because she had decided to confess to the boy she liked and he had said he didn’t return feelings.
No matter how much you tried to console her, nothing you said seemed to work. It was dad’s turn.
Tsukki sits her down, his face as serious as ever, before adjusting his glasses to look at his step-daughter clearly. “Don’t tell mom that I said this, but boys ain’t shit.” 💀💀💀
“Ooooh, Tsukki said a bad word.” She joked in between her now calming tears.
“It’s true, though. Now come on, chin up. Princesses can’t have their heads down, their crowns will fall off.”
Tumblr media
Yamaguchi;
Despite the years of torture and struggle that was raising your twin hellions, Tadashi was kind of feeling a little empty now that the boys had grown into being more independent.
They were now seven-years-old, in sports, getting good grades—it’s like they were replaced with a different set of twins.
However, this also grants Tadashi the chance to actually step in and be a father, rather than letting those two run him ragged all day.
I see Yamaguchi being a slightly more strict parent, but loving nonetheless. Because the twins have always sort have been troublemakers, he’s strict on making sure the boys are home in time for dinner and that their schoolwork is done.
If they aren’t 💀💀💀
Honestly, your guys’ life though is just all around peaceful and a small part of you is longing for chaos.
So before the two of you head to sleep for the evening, your both just chilling in bed, maybe reading a book. Ya know, like 90s sitcom style.
“Hey Tadashi, can I ask you something?” That was never a good sign in his book, but he looks at you expectantly, waiting for you to proceed. “How would you feel if we had another kid?”
“Wait, are you pregnant?” You certainly didn’t miss the panic that filled his eyes. Oh. There’s your answer.
“No...I just...kinda miss holding a baby, ya know? Our boys are seven now, they don’t want mom anywhere near them and they think my hugs and kisses are gross.”
Ngl, it kinda hurts him to hear that because he knows it hurts you. All he wants to do his make you feel better.
“I mean, I’m not opposed I’m just—“
“Scared the next one is gonna turn out the same way?” He laughs at the fact that you know him so well. “Don’t get me wrong, I am too. But in the end, we raised them so well. I don’t think we’ll have anything to worry about.”
Tumblr media
Kyoutani;
The two of you never ceased to surprise anyone.
At first, it started with the two of you dating in your third years of high school, all the way through college (which, it shocked some that he in enrolled in university at all), to bringing your three-year-old son to the class of 2014 reunion.
Where did people even begin? The fact that you two had been dating for ten years or the fact that the two of you were parents?
It bothered you when people made assumptions about Kentarou.
Yes, he was cold and brash and a complete pain in your ass, but he was a damn good life partner and father.
Kyoutani wasn’t satisfied with anything if he wasn’t giving it his all—that includes his relationship with you and your guys’ son.
While he isn’t necessarily the most affectionate person, he always made sure his little family had everything they needed.
Yahaba is the first one to approach the three of you, surprised to see Kentarou holding his little one. “Holy shit, I never thought I’d see the day.”
“Language.” Your boyfriend bites out. A small laugh escapes your lips as you pat him on the back in reassurance as you give Yahaba a hug.
“Nice to see you too, Shigeru.” The former setter looks between the two of you, then looks at your son.
“It’s so scary to see your mini-me with his eyes.”
“Don’t be rude.” You chide him calmly, while Kyoutani feels his blood boil slightly. That sounded like an insult to him. Wordlessly, he hands over your son before squaring up with his former teammate. “Honey, please don’t start a fight.”
You were one of the few people to calm him down; a given considering your decade together.
Backing down, Kentarou retreats to your side, securing an arm around his waist and placing a chaste kiss in his sons hair. Knowing his mannerisms, you knew that was an apology to his child for losing his cool for a minute.
“Holy shit.” Yahaba repeats, stunned by the display of affection
“Language!” Your boyfriend snarls again through clenched teeth, making you laugh again. The three of you were far from perfect, but you had everything you needed.

Bliss.
Bekah met Jon in Minnesota a week after vacation.  Kelly and her husband, Zack picked Bekah up and it was like no time had passed from college.  Zack was Kelly’s college boyfriend. The two eloped two summers after graduation when Zack followed her home to the twin cities. The two welcomed their oldest daughter seven months later and started a life at a family of three. Bekah realized the distance plus sudden life changes were what made the two drift and she hated that she didn’t know Kelly’s kids. Watching Kelly in mom mode was fun as the kids scurried around her. Bekah convinced them to come to the game with her with some push back about the free tickets.  The game went into overtime with the Blackhawks winning.  Bekah looked down at the tired eyes of the three kids, Isabella, Brayden, and Oliver.  “You want to go see the locker room?”  All three’s eyes went wide and heads nodded like bobble heads.  The group headed down and Jon gave them a little tour and pucks.  Bekah took in how sweet Jon was with the kids.  Getting down on their level, letting Oliver lean into his leg and speaking what Bekah deemed kid speak.  She fell a little harder for him in that moment and had a moment where she pictured their kids.  Her attention was quickly brought back to Jon and the kids as she leaned down to answer a question from Isabella.
“He scored on the power play, won, and gave them a tour... our kids are going to be Hawks fans aren’t they?”  Zack pulls at his Wilds jersey while whispering loud enough for Jon and Bekah to look over and laugh.
“Is that so bad?”  Jon smiles while standing straight and pulling Bekah into his side.  “This one converted easily.”  All those in ear shot laugh knowing Bekah was never really a hockey fan.
She really had become a fan of the game over the last 4 years and not just of Jon’s play.  This change in the way she watched the game was noticed by everyone especially Brynn, who watched more of Bekah than the game while the Blue Jackets were in Chicago. Marie joined Brynn and Bekah and commented a few time on the changes of her daughter.  Seeing Bekah happy and in love made Marie at ease with the quickness of the engagement. With the wedding five months away, the ladies took the weekend to go dress shopping.  Bekah’s fingers brush the tulle and lace of the dresses that were pulled when Brynn called to schedule an appointment.  The trio realized quickly that the boutique knew exactly who Bekah was marrying by the dress selection.  Bekah sees Brynn’s feet on the other side of the rack and spreads the dresses.
“Holy shit Rin!  Have you LOOKED at these prices?  These dresses are insane. Imported from Italy some of them.”  Bekah whisper yells and Brynn laughs.   “And you can afford every. single. one. friend.  Jon said pick the dress you want, regardless of the price and you are doing just that. MOH duty to ensure it happens.”  Bekah swallows hard as her hand keeps coming back to the same dress.
“You’ve touched that dress multiple times, Rebekah.  Maybe you should try it on?”  Marie’s voice comes out of no where causing Bekah to jump.  The sales woman hears and moves Bekah and the dress quickly away while the other escorts Marie and Brynn to the waiting area.  When Bekah emerged they all knew.  She found the dress she would be marrying Jon in. Marie wipes her eyes as Bekah fusses with the veil. “It’s perfect. Simply perfect.”  Brynn nods her head with tears filling her eyes.
Wedding planning with Jon during the season was interesting but he was intentional with their time.  His only real request was leaving the honeymoon completely up to him.  One evening while laying in bed, Jon could feel Bekah was thinking of her mile long list of things to do.  “You got everything under control. I’m so damn impressed, Baby.”  Jon’s arm pulls Bekah’s body into his and kisses her sweetly.
“Thanks.  I’m thankful you can help when you can.”  Bekah’s body shifts under Jon’s arm.
“But?  I feel like there is a but in that statement.”  Jon’s lips press into her temple.
“But nothing.  Everything is falling into place.  The invitations. The food. The cake.  The... dress.”  Bekah clears her throat.
“Do you not like your dress?  Because if not, it’s not too late Beks.”  Jon whispers.
“Why would you say that?  I love my dress.  It’s perfect.”  Bekah sits up.
“Your list.  You paused while listing your dress and did that thing with your lips where you pull the inside of your lip into your teeth.  Seriously, it doesn’t matter the price, if you want a new one, you and Brynn can go as soon as she can get here.”  Jon’s fingers run up and down her spine.
“It’s so incredibly stupid but I just keep thinking that maybe I shouldn’t wear white...”  Bekah places her face in her hands and rests her elbows on her knees.  She feels the bed shaking and turns to see Jon trying not to laugh.  “What?  It’s tradition and well...”
“And what Beks?  You aren’t a virgin so you shouldn’t wear white?”  Jon pulls her into his chest unable to contain the laughter.  “Sweetheart, wear white, ivory, pink, blue, black... I don’t fucking care.  I know you will look gorgeous and frankly, all I care about is making you my wife.”  His lips kiss down her jaw and he moves her chin to find her lips.
“Well, it’s not white, white...” Jon’s body lands on top of Bekah’s and she exhales from the weight.
“Don’t tell me.  I want to be completely surprised.  Just know, I do not care what color your dress is Beks.  At the end of the day, it is just you and me becoming husband and wife.  The rest is just a show for the world.  Now, can I... well... I need... can we... fuck. Words.”  His hips roll into hers making Bekah moan out.  “Yeah, that. Now that we are done with the dress conversation. Shall we?”  His body moves down hers, positioning himself between Bekah’s legs.  Slight kisses on the inside of her thighs while he adjusts her legs.  Jon’s fingers dance down from her clit to Bekah’s core and his tongue follows begetting jolts and groans from Bekah above.
“Tae.”  Bekah’s entire body feels the wave produced by tongue and fingers moving together.  He hums into her skin while continuing to suck and flick her most sensitive area.  “Tae, I’m gonna...”  She didn’t finish her warning.  Bekah’s thighs tighten around Jon’s head as an intense orgasm rips through her body.  Jon’s free arm wraps around her thigh to pull her leg past his shoulder as his tongue and fingers don’t let up.  “Fuck.  Jon.”  Bekah leans up realizing he’s not letting her come down from this high.  His lips press into her and then releases.  Jon’s fingers pump and curve while he shifts his weight to his knees.  “What are you doing?”  She pants out.  Jon’s fingers move only to be replaced with his cock and his body drops down onto Bekah.
“Making sure you have a damn amazing orgasm since I won’t be able to give you one for a few days.”  Jon’s swollen lips kiss her’s and Bekah moves her legs to wrap around him.
“Oh, it’s working, Tae!”  Bekah’s fingers claw at his back feeling her second build deep inside.
“I know.”  His voice was low and mischievous.  Jon grunts.  “Beks, you feel so damn good.”  His hips snap into Bekah but don’t retreat.  Bekah squirms under him pressing her hips into his.  He pulls his head up to look into Bekah’s now open eyes.  “I love you.  You know.  Forever.”  He whispers before he releases sending Bekah’s high crashing over her again.
“I love you too, J.”  Bekah breathes out while running her fingers through his hair.  “Now, can we talk flowers?”  Bekah’s change of subject made Jon laugh into her chest.
“Sure, wild local flowers?” He kisses her neck and lifts up. Seeing his blissed out fiancée’s face knowing his suggestion was perfect.
The season ended with another year without playoffs.  With the season of change everyone seemed to be ready to put it behind them and start fresh in the fall.  Bekah and Jon went into full wedding prep mode with time spent as off season usually was.  Jon did a bachelor party weekend golfing in the Carolinas while Bekah met Brynn, Kelly, Alyssa, and both moms in Chicago to take in a Cubs game and shopping.  The ladies were impressed with how calm Bekah was with everything.
“I think married life suits you.”  Brynn leans into Bekah while the ladies were having dinner on the roof.
“I’m not married, yet, Rin.”  Bekah looks at her friend. “He can still...” Bekah takes a long sip of her wine afraid to finish the sentence.
“Yeah, he won’t. He wanted to marry you months ago. You two are made for each other and this wedding is just a public declaration of that. I will say I am impressed you haven’t really Bekah-ed anything either, right?”  Brynn bumps her shoulders and Bekah feels the heat in her cheeks.  “Oh, no.  What?”
“Well, I told him I wasn’t sure I should wear white.”  Bekah whispered looking at her mom, Andrée, and Kelly taking in the view.
“Oh Bekah!”  Alyssa chimed in.  “You didn’t!”  The two giggle causing the rest of the ladies to look over.  Bekah pulls her legs into herself and nods taking in the conversation with Jon before the season ended. She drifted into her own thoughts as the girls discussed bridal showers and getting the dress to Arizona.
It was July in the blink of an eye, Jon and Bekah were on their way to Sedona almost a week before the wedding.  Everything was set in place.  “You ready, Baby?”  Jon wraps his arms around her waist and lands his chin on her shoulder taking in the stunning backdrop for their ceremony.  The venue’s host off making sure everything for the day was scheduled to arrive on time.
“Yeah.  It really is beautiful here.  And this view Tae.  This view is breathtaking.”  Bekah’s hand slides down Jon’s arms looking out over the red rocks.
“And it will be the second most beautiful view on Friday.”  Jon’s lips kiss the corner of her mouth as she smirks remembering their first trip.
“I think you are going to love the dress.  I mean, I hope you will.  I tried on one plus my reception dress.”  Bekah whispered.
“You could wear sweats and I would love it.  But no doubt, it’s the perfect dress for my bride.”  Jon had a way of making Bekah feel so loved and relaxed in the middle of moments others would stress out in.  Which was exactly how she felt as the wedding day came.  The guests were seated and Bekah looked down at her dress.  Her fingers rub the lace overlay as she moves her hands down the modern a-line dress.  The ivory underlay catching the light almost looking rose gold when she looked into the mirror.  Brynn’s swift movement of her chapel train made Bekah’s eyes meet her matron of honor’s that were filled with tears.
“Are you crying?”  Bekah’s voice broke through and she turned to Brynn who could just nod her head.  “Rin.”  Bekah’s hand envelop her best friend’s. Brynn’s hand moves from their embrace and reaches up to fix Bekah’s T necklace that sat perfectly in her v shaped embroidered neckline.
“I’m just so damn happy for you, that’s all.  I feel like I’ve been your coach this whole time.  Your biggest cheerleader.”  This makes the girls laugh.  “Jon told me to make sure you had this and that your mascara was waterproof before you opened it.”  Brynn reaches for a tiny box that had been unnoticed in the hustle of getting ready.  Bekah looks down, looks at her friend then opens the tiny box.  A handkerchief was folded neatly in it.  She recognized it as her grandfather’s but noticed there was something added.  “Always yours” Bekah breathed out willing the tears to stay put.  “How did he?  When did he?”  Bekah looked up at her father.
“That man knows you well, B.  You found yourself a good one there.”  Jim smiles sweetly and Bekah just nods her head.  Brynn takes the baby blue handkerchief and tucks it into Bekah’s wildflower bouquet before handing it to her.
“Is the bridal party ready?”  The coordinator’s voice breaks through the emotion filled room.  “You have one handsome groom waiting for you.  The entire room took a breath and got in line.  Bekah’s dad offered his arm and she wrapped hers in his.  They rounded the corner, music playing, all 200 guests on their feet staring at Bekah but she was looking for Jon and only Jon.  Bekah finally sees Jon who is beaming at the end of the aisle.  Tailored black tux almost leaning sideways to catch his first glimpse of his bride walking her way.  The two decided to go the traditional route and not see each other before this moment and it was worth it.  His look was worth it.  David nudged him from his spot once Bekah and her father were stopped.  Jon makes his way to the two.  Shakes Jim’s hand and offers his arm to Bekah who presses her hand into his forearm to ground herself.
“Beks, you are the most beautiful bride ever.”  Jon whispers as the two walk the few steps to the minister. Kelly straightens out her train while Brynn grabs her bouquet so she can place both hands into Jon’s.  His thumbs rubbing the tops of her hands.  The two so lost in their non-verbal conversation that they didn’t hear the minister ask Jon to repeat after him.
“Jonathan, repeat after me... please.” The officiant says again eliciting a laughter from the crowd.  The ceremony was perfect in every way.  Sunset over the Sedona rocks in the backdrop with their closest friends and family members witnessing their union. Both Bekah and Jon misty eyed but not crying which surprised everyone. Patrick joked he lost the bet with Duncan on their captain actually shedding tears during the event.  The couple savored every moment as one.  “By the power given to me by the state of Arizona, I now pronounce you husband and wife.  You may now kiss her bride.”  Jon pulls Bekah in and his hands cup her face kissing her deeply but then retracting after the cheers.
“I love you.  Ma femme pour toujours.”  Jon whispers and Bekah’s eyebrow shoots up. “My wife forever.”  He translates and Bekah kisses him again.
“Je t'aime Tae.”  Bekah whispers then they look out to the crowd realizing they had an audience.
“I am happy to introduce to you Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan and Rebekah Toews.”  The music plays and the guests stand.  Jon grabs her hand and they walk down the aisle dipping her to kiss his wife again before heading towards the reception area.
The reception went smoothly.  The couple found a baker that specialized in flourless cake.  The meal was amazing and the hockey players behaved themselves for the most part.  Jon twirled Bekah around the dance floor not letting his hands off her. By the time the two made their way to their honeymoon suite the event crashed over them.  Jon scoops Bekah up and carries her over the threshold.  Her reception tea dress being unzipped as soon as he closed the door.  “So, Mrs. Toews...”  Jon’s eyebrows wiggle.
“Yes, Mr. Toews... ok that doesn’t have the same effect.”  Bekah kisses him. Her fingers playing with his new wedding band.  “Do you want the lingerie now or on this mystery honeymoon?”  Her dress being dropped to the ground and an animalistic sound erupted from his lips.
“Later.  I want you now.”  Jon growls into her skin while she finishes removing his already half unbuttoned dress shirt.
“Ya, sure.  I brought a set for this weekend.  It even has Mrs. written on the ass.”  Bekah presses her lips to his chest.
“Tomorrow, after our rock pictures.  We can have a second wedding night.”  Jon moans under Bekah’s touch.
“Speaking of, you think I can get up there in my dress?  I would hate to fall to my death a day after getting married.”  Bekah looks up at her husband with a smirk.
“I’ll carry you, promise.”  Jon smiles and his lips catch Bekah’s.  “The pictures will be worth the little sweat to get you up there.”  Jon tosses Bekah lightly on the bed.  “Now, where was I, oh yes.  I need to fully bliss out my wife.”  He unbuckles his pants and crawls over top of Bekah as she lets out a little laugh.  “What?”  Jon’s eyebrow questions.
“Wife.  I just.  I like that title.”  Bekah wraps her arms around his neck and presses up to kiss him deeply.  Jon moans.
“Rebekah Toews, I fucking love you.”  Jon whispers.
“Hmmmm... Maybe I’ll keep it Pierce, you know so people can pronounce it.” She giggles as Jon groans from her joke.
“Funny Beks.  Funny.  You are legally Pierce for the honeymoon travel then we can change it... if you want. You know I want you too.” Jon’s lips ghost over her skin.
“I am. You know that.” Bekah’s body reacts to Jon’s touch. “Tae, question?” He hums in acknowledgment. “Where are we going for our honeymoon?” Bekah’s fingers comb through his hair.
“Chicago.” Jon mumbles against her breast.
“Come on, Tae.” Bekah pulls her legs up to try and move him.
“Not tellin’. You will find out when we board the plane.” Jon bites at her skin and she jumps.
“Seriously.  You won’t tell me?”
“Nope.” Jon pops the p and places his chin between her breasts. “Mrs. Toews, you have forever to ask me all the questions.  Forever. Can I plllleeessseee have sex with my gorgeous wife now?” Jon pushes up and kisses Bekah hard as she melts into him.

With Declan at Salena’s house for a ‘lunch and play date’, Esme takes advantage of the downtime, spending the first part of her afternoon eating lunch on the back patio while Adeline naps on a blanket nearby.  Enjoying the breeze that blows in off the ocean, the way the sun glistens on the water, and the sound of the waves as they roll up onto the shore.  It’s peaceful; a welcome relief from the earlier incident with Chloe and the drama that had ensued the night before. She has a chance to let her brain finally rest, losing herself in the petty drama on social media posts and reading celebrity gossip blogs.  Simple, mindless pleasures that help take her mind off things; the worry revolving around Ovi, the problems TJ is having a school, her own battle with mental health issues.
Today is a better day; the dark overhead not as dense and terrifying. She’s able to find happiness in the sunshine and the sound and the smell of the ocean and the sight of her infant daughter fast asleep; long dark eyelashes resting against the top of her cheeks, those rosy, tiny lips pursed, her hair being tousled by the breeze. Content and peaceful; comfortable in just a pink bathing suit with brightly colored unicorns printed on it and ruffles on the bum. Mac curled up beside her; a paw touching her leg, raising his head to watch her when she twitches or makes even the faintest of noises in her sleep.
After lunch –and when Addie wakes- Esme takes her down the water, crouching down and lightly pressing the baby’s feet in the wet sand, leaving tiny prints behind. Sitting at the edge while the tide rolls in, the baby between her legs and resting back against her, gently splashing the water onto Addie’s legs and tummy; allowing her to get used to the texture and the temperature.  Then wading out until the water just reaches the small of Addie’s back as she holds her tightly and protectively against her. There’s no fussing. Not even the slightest of cries or the flinch of discomfort.
“You are definitely your father’s daughter,” Esme says, as she presses a kiss to Addie’s cheek. “You’re a natural. Definitely not a scaredy cat.  When you’re a bit bigger, he’s going have you out here all the time with your brothers and sister. Swimming, teaching you how to surf. All that fun stuff. You look me, but I think you’re going to be just like him. And that’s a good. A very good thing. Because he is brave and strong and has a huge heart inside that big body of his.”
Later she spreads a blanket out on the sand and lies down on it, Addie on her stomach and pressed against her mother’s chest; a towel loosely draped over her tiny body to protect her from the sun. The sand is warm and soothing against her back and combined with the heat from the brilliant sunshine and the sounds of the ocean, it’s enough to almost lull her to sleep.  She’s exhausted; mentally and physically. It’s been years since she’s been able to indulge in even the smallest bit of self-care, devoting her life to being a wife and a mother. Even a few hours without the other four kids will do wonders for her body and mind. And she’s just beginning to doze off when she feels a slight –yet noticeable- change in the temperature; cracking open an eye to find a shadow cast over her.
“I was starting to wonder if anybody lived at this dump,” the familiar voice drawls, and her eyes snap open at the sound of it, quickly and carefully sitting Addie down on the blanket before jumping to her feet.
“Oh my god! Kyle!” The tears are already brimming in her eyes as she practically throws herself against him, and he laughs as he circles her waist with his arms and picks her up off her feet.
“Hey, kid,” he greets, and presses a kiss to her temple.
She holds his scruffy face in her hands. “What are you doing here?”
“Would you believe I came all this way just because I missed my little sister?” He tousles her hair affectionately and places her on the ground.
“No. But I’ll let you have it. Why didn’t tell us you were coming to visit? So we knew to expect you.”
“It was kind of a last-minute thing. I had some vacation time owed to me and I thought I'd take advantage of it. And I’ve always wanted to visit Australia, so....” he puts his hands on his hips and emits a long, low impressed whistle as he takes in the surroundings. The beach with its pristine, almost white sand, the expanse of the ocean, the house and the property it sits on. “...here I am. And wow, it’s even better than the pictures and those were pretty impressive.”
“Isn’t it awesome? It’s everything we could have ever possibly imagined. Every day it gets more and more beautiful. We are so blessed, K. In so many ways.”
“You guys sure are. I’m not surprised you never want to come back to the States. I wouldn’t want to if I lived here either.  You look good, kid,” he reaches out to push wayward strands of hair behind her ears. “How you been feeling?”
“It’s been a rough one,” Esme admits. “I haven’t really been myself since having Addie.?”
“Post-partum or...?”
She nods. “Even worse than with Declan. That that was bad enough. But I have an appointment with the doctor tomorrow to talk to her about it and get some meds. So I’ll be right as rain soon. I can’t believe you’re here!” She wraps her arms around his torso. “I’ve missed you. I’ve missed you so much.”
“Wow, your brain must really be messed up,” Kyle teases, and then jumps backwards with a chuckle when she directs a painful punch towards his stomach. “So where’s this new niece of mine? I didn’t come all this way for nothing, you know.”
“You’re going to love her,” Esme gushes, and takes him by the hand and pulls him towards the blanket. “She’s so tiny and so beautiful and so perfect. And she looks like me! Finally! It only took how many tries?”
“Tyler must have used up all the good genes on the first four,” he chides, a broad smile spreading across his face when his sister carefully places Addie in his arms. “Holy shit! She’s even tinier in person! I can’t believe how light she is. Like holding a doll.”
“Even the preemie diapers and clothes are a bit too big on her right now. She makes all the others seem huge when they were born. Even the twins were bigger, and they were early.”
“And then there’s Declan who was practically a toddler when he was born.”
“That was like giving birth to a baby elephant. Wait until you see him. He's at the neighbor's right now, but he’s huge! He’s so tall and he’s solid and so strong. Isn’t she just amazing?” Esme smiles down in pride at her baby girl. “Isn’t she just the most incredible thing you’ve ever seen?”
Kyle grins. “You’ve said that with every one of them.”
“But she’s even more so. Look at her. How beautiful she is. Look at all that hair and those huge eyes and those tiny little ears!”
“She’s beautiful like her momma.” he declares and pecks his sister’s cheek. “You did good, kid.  You did really good.”
“Well, I can’t take all the credit. I did have some help.”
“One thing you guys are really good at is making cute kids, that’s for sure. I can’t wait to see them. I can only imagine how big they’ve gotten in just six months. Bet Millie’s growing like a weed.”
“TJ is almost taller than she is! He’s five, K! There’s no way he should be that tall and have that big of feet. And Tanner...oh my god...wait until you see his hair. He looks so much Tyler. Like the spitting image of him. It used to be TJ, but Tanner has changed so much. You won’t believe it when you see them.”
“I’ve missed them,” he smiles down at his niece and runs a palm over her hair. “It’s been hard. Being that far away from them. They’re happy though? They’re doing okay?”
“TJ has had some issues at school. Just some acting out and some aggression. We think he’s just struggling with such a huge change in his life. But we’re going to have a specialist look at him. Just in case it’s something more. It may be nothing. He may just have his dad’s temper and needs to learn how to control it. But it’s better to be safe than sorry.”
“But happy? Are they happy?”
“Very. And healthy.  They’re thriving here, K.  They love school, their grades are good, they have friends. They spend nearly all their time outside when they’re home. They go swimming and fishing and Tyler is teaching them how to surf. They’re in their element. And that’s what we wanted for them.  A place they’d be truly happy. Where they’d feel safe and secure.”
“And you? Other than this post-partum stuff. Are you happy?”
“It’s probably the happiest I’ve been in about fifteen years. I wish we’d never left. That we’d just stayed here instead of going back to Colorado.  It’s where all our problems started. Everything just seemed to go downhill when we moved back there. If we’d just stayed here...”
“And miss spending time with your favorite big brother? I’m insulted,” he playfully nudges her with his elbow.  “Not sense dwelling on it, kid.  That’s all behind you now. Can’t go back and change it, so why even think about it? Nothing good ever comes out of wondering ‘what if’.”
“When did you become so wise and logical?” Esme teases. “That is not the K I remember. The K I remember still loved playing beer pong and doing shots out of random girls’ navels.”
“Well, you meet a good woman and things change. What can I say?”
His sister doesn’t respond, instead arching her eyebrows and giving a tight-lipped smile as she gathers up the blanket and shakes it free of sand before folding it.
“Esme...” Kyle sighs. “...don’t be like that.”
“Don’t be like what? I didn’t say anything.”
“You don’t need to. You’ve got that look.”
She laughs. “I don’t have a look. You’re just imaging I have a look.”
“I know Nik isn’t your favorite person, but....”
She scoffs.
“...she is my fiancée. She’s going to be my wife. You need to give her a chance. I gave Tyler a chance.”
“You didn’t know Tyler before you met him. I know Nik. I’ve known Nik for years. And ninety percent of that time, she was trying to get my husband to cheat on me. With her. She was doing everything in her power to fuck things up between us.”
“But she didn’t.”
“That’s hardly the point. She still did it. Why would you want to be with a woman you know was hell bent on being a homewrecker? And she wasn’t trying to wreck just any home. She was trying to wreck your sister’s home. How can you be okay with that?”
“She’s already apologized. To you. To Tyler. What more do you want? The pastis just that, right? The past. Leave it there. She's changed. You’ll see that for yourself.”
Esme’s eyes narrow. “Excuse me? I’ll see what for myself?”
“That Nik’s changed. What?” he chuckles. “You thought I’d take a vacation to Australia alone?”
“She’s seen plenty of Australia. Including parts I’d rather she’d never seen.”
“Esme, stop. That’s history.”
“Yeah, their history. Do you not realize how weird this is for you? That you’re marrying Tyler’s ex....whatever the hell she was? I’m going to be related to a woman that’s had sex with my husband. You don’t find that a little strange?”
“I can see why it’s a little off putting,” Kyle admits, and then follows her as she heads towards the house. “But it’s been a long time. Since the two of them had a thing. They’ve both moved on. He’s married, has five kids...”
“None of that matters to her before. Why should it now? It’s just weird, K. It’s just plain weird. That my sister in law was once banging my husband. Boy, that will be interesting conversation around the table at Thanksgiving. ‘Did you know Tyler and I used to fuck? Can you pass the gravy?’”.
“Okay, so now you’re being a tad irrational.”
“And it’s not just that,” she continues. “The fact they’ve had sex. On multiple occasions. It’s that Nik used him and manipulated him and preyed on every fear and worry he had to get him back into the job. She knew he had mental health issues and it didn’t even stop her. She didn’t even care. All she cared about was what she could get out of him.  So I’m sorry if I’m not thrilled that that’s the woman you’ve decided to spend the rest of your life with.”
“And like I said. She’s changed. You’ll see that for yourself. All I’m asking is that you give her a chance.”
“I’ve given her tons of chances,” Esme tosses the blanket onto one of the patio chairs and wipes her feet off on the mat in front of the sliding door before opening it. “How many chances am I supposed to give her?”
“You’ve given Tyler tons of chances,” he points out.
“He’s my husband, K. Don’t even compare the two.”
“Give her one more chance,” he implores, as he follows her into the house. “And do you guys never lock your doors around here? I was able to just walk right in.”
“No one comes down this way. Except for you now, apparently.”  She grabs the tea kettle from the middle of the stove, fills it with water and plugs it in. “I don’t lock them. Tyler does. Because he’s paranoid as fuck.”
“Of what?”
“Of anything. Of everything. Of everybody. Wouldn’t you be? After living the life he did? He’s pissed off a lot of people, K. There’s a lot of evil fucks out there that feel he did them wrong. There’s always a chance that someone is out there waiting for the opportunity to get back at him. Or at least that’s how he thinks.”
“And what do you think?”
“What I think is irrelevant. It won’t change his mind.”
“Is he getting any better? Is there any change?”
“He’s coping a lot better. He’s not as agitated. He doesn’t lose his temper as easily anymore and just fly off the handle. And we’re definitely do not fight as much as we used to.”
“But...” he takes a seat at the kitchen table. “...I sense a but coming on.”
“But...” she gathers the milk from the milk and a container of sugar from the counter, putting both down in the middle of the middle. “...he’s very...protective.”
“Of you?”
She nods.
“Pretty understandable. I mean, you guys have been through some messed up shit together,” he presses a kiss to a now sleeping Addie’s forehead and lays her along his thighs, a hand resting on her stomach to keep her in place. “He’s almost lost you twice. He doesn’t want there to be a third time. Any guy would be protective after going through what he’s gone through.”
“We’re not talking about what other guys would do. Let’s not pretend that Tyler is like other guys. How many of these other guys are...were...mercenaries.”
“Probably not many, but...”
“He isn’t protective like other men are protective. He’s over the top.   Protective to the extreme,” she gently scoops Addie up and places her in the infant swing across the room, covering her up with a receiving blanket and opening the sliding door to allow the cool breeze into the room.
“I don’t think you can blame him for that,” Kyle reasons. “I mean, that’s a hell of a life he lived. And if he’s pissed that many people off and stepped on that many toes, he’s naturally going to worry about you.  He just wants to keep you safe. He loves you. He doesn’t want anything happening to you.”
“I don’t think you’re quite understanding the depth of his protectiveness,” she stands on her tip toes to snag two mugs from one of the cupboards, throwing a tea bag into each one and covering them with boiling water. “You’ve never seen Tyler in action. What he gets like. Especially when he’s having one of his ‘off days’.”
“Okay,” he takes one of the mugs from his sister and she slips into the chair across from him. “Enlighten me.”
“First, I’m not telling you all of this because I’m complaining about him. Because that’s not what this is. This is about loving him and being worried about him. That’s it.”
“I get that.”
“Second, you do not breathe a word of this to him.  If he knew I was telling you about these things, the shit would hit the fan. He doesn’t even like hearing what I have to say during therapy. And that’s with a professional. So if he finds out that I even mentioned all of this to you....”
“Your secret is safe with me. I promise. Did anyone ever find out about all those secrets we shared as kids? About the time we lit those firecrackers and threw them down Mister Johnson’s cistern? Or how about that time I caught you kissing Jennifer Parker behind the gym after field hockey practice in grade nine?”
“Oh my God,” Esme laughs, and presses her palm to her forehead. “Jennifer Parker. She was a grade eleven! I totally forgot about her. She was hot too. That nose ring and those dreads? I wonder what ever happened to her?”
“I saw her about a week ago, actually. She’s back in town. Married, three kids. Hooked up with a navy guy.”
“Navy,” Esme snorts, and pours milk into her tea. “She could do so much better.”
“Spoken like a true jarhead,” he teases, and reaches out to tousles her hair. “She asked about you, actually. I told her you were in Australia, married, almost half a dozen rug rats. Told me to tell you to look her up on Facebook.  She’d like to touch base.”
“Touch base, huh?” Esme smirks. “Is that what the kids are calling it these days? I do enough ‘touching base’ around here, don’t you think? Isn’t five kids evidence of that?”
“You should look her up. She’d probably love to visit Australia. You know, you can give her a ‘personal tour’.”
“Okay, first of all, I would never, ever cheat on my husband. Second, that’s NOT the kind of marriage we have. And third, even if we did have that kind of marriage, I don’t share. I think you’re not completely understanding how this whole being bi things works, K. You watch way too much porn.”
“It’s completely innocent, I swear. You’re happy, she’s supposedly happy. You can be friends with an ex, you know.”
“Oh don’t you dare find some sneaky way to turn this into me kissing Nik’s ass and trying to be her friend again. Don’t push me, K. If that’s going to happen, it’s going to be on my terms. Not yours.”
“Fair enough. So back to this whole Tyler being protective thing.  What’s the deal? You don’t think he has a reason to be?”
“It’s not that. And I love that man to the ends of the earth and beyond and this isn’t me just bitching about him to bitch about him. This is a legitimate concern.”
“Okay,” Kyle sips his tea. “Go on.”
“First, he’s not like that all the time. He gets into these moods. He’s always been intense. You know that. You’ve seen how intense he can be.  Well this is Tyler’s usual intense times a hundred.  I don’t know who or what sets it off, but he honestly goes into mercenary mode. Like I’m one of the people he’s been hired to protect and get out of shitty situations. It’s not like I’m not even his wife anymore. It’s like I’m....I don’t even know...a mark. Does that make sense?”
"I think so.”
“And he doesn’t realize he’s doing it. I know he doesn’t. Because that’s how his brain works.  It convinces him there’s a threat and a reason to go into hard core protective mode. And part of me loves him for it. That he’s that intense about wanting to keep me safe. But there’s another part that can’t fucking stand it. Because I feel suffocated. Like I can’t even breathe.  I’m not used to being kept under lock and key, K. I’ve never been like that. I’ve always been independent. I’ve always been able to just come and go and take care of myself.”
He nods in agreement.
“It’s like I’m not even a person anymore. It’s like I’m a thing. Like a package he has to keep safe and sound. Do you know how dehumanizing that is? When you don’t even feel like a human being anymore? When you can’t even go into town on your own or meet people and make friends? It’s bullshit. And I get he doesn’t realize what he’s doing or that his brain is convincing him he has to be that way. It’s not his fault. I get that. But fuck, Kyle. I need a life. Outside of being a wife and a mother.”
“Have you ever actually brought his up to him or...?”
Esme nods and sips her tea, struggling to keep back the tears.  It’s frustration. Worry. Helplessness, almost.  “It doesn’t help. Because like I said, he doesn’t even know he’s doing it and doesn’t know just how bad it is.  And then I bring it up and he gets defensive and then I feel like a bad person for hurting his feelings. Which I am not trying to do. And this isn’t so much about me as it is about him. Because I’m worried about him.  Because sometimes it seems like he’s come so far and other times it feels like he’s either stuck where he is or he’s going backwards.  I don’t know what to do.  To help him.”
“What about this therapist you guys are seeing? The marriage counsellor or whatever.”
“We haven’t been since a month before Addie was born. Just because all of the problems I was having trying to get her where she was until she was healthy enough to make her appearance. But we’re going back next week. That should be interesting,” she snorts.  “He’s been so relieved he hasn’t had to go. I can just imagine what the first session back is going to be like.”
“I thought he was going on his own too. For the PTSD.”
“He is. But I don’t know what the hell he talks about when he’s there. I don’t go with him, so....” she shrugs, then drags her hand through her hair and places her elbow on the table, forehead resting on her palm. “.... I just don’t know what to do for him. And I can’t just sit back and let him struggle.  He’s trying so hard, K.  To put everything else behind him. To just concentrate on a normal life. On being a husband and a father. And he’s amazing at both of those things.  He really is.  I just thought it wouldn’t be this hard, I guess. That he’d be able to just walk away and leave everything else behind. But there’s so much in there; in his head. And it just won’t leave him alone.  It won’t let him rest.”
“You can only do so much, kid.  I know that’s not the answer you want to hear. And I wish I had something better to tell you. He just needs more time. It’s only been six months.  Half a year to get over things that have been adding up for what? Two decades? He hasn’t had the easiest go of it. It’s probably hard for him to get used to having a good life.  It’s not what he’s known, right? The job was his life. And then you came along, and everything changed. And that’s not a slight on you. I’m not saying you totally fucked him up even more. Because you coming along was a good thing. Probably the best thing that’s ever happened to him.”
She snorts. “Sometimes I wonder about that.”
“I’m just saying that it’s going to take longer than six months to fix things. To fix him. And that’s not your job, Esme. Just because you’re his wife doesn’t mean it’s entirely up to you. He’s making the effort, right? To fix shit?”
She nods.
“And he’s got the therapist and doctors keeping an eye on him. You’re not the only one that is dealing with this. Stop trying to take it all on yourself. It’s hard, I know. You’ve always been the type to want to take on everything on your own. Even when we were kids. But you’ve got to worry about yourself too. You’ve got your own shit going on and you’ve got five little ones that need their mom to take care of herself. They want to see you happy and healthy.”
“I’m not their only parent,” she reminds him.  “I’m not doing this on my own. And I don’t want to do this on my own.”
“And he’s working on shit, right? He is getting better. Even if it’s slowly. Those kids deserve a mom and a dad that take care of themselves. Where would they be without either of you? Fucked. That’s where they’d be. Who’s going to take them if something happens to you guys? Tyler doesn’t have any family, I’m all the way on the other side of the world practically.”
“But you’d do it. If you had to.”
“Take the kids?  In a heartbeat.  No questions asked. But I can’t just run here whenever you’re having a hard time. I want to, but I can’t. You know that.”
“I know...” she runs the palms of her hands along the side of her mug. “...I just...I don’t know...I wish you were closer, that’s all.”
“Well you never know what could happen, right? After Nik and I tie the knot. Maybe this will be one of the places she wants to settle down in. We’ve been making a list. Talking about it a lot. Where we’d like to put down roots.”
“You wouldn’t stay in Colorado?”
“If that’s where she wants to be, sure.  But once you left, there wasn’t much there for me anymore. I’m the black sheep now. In the family. And to be honest, I kind of like it. Everyone leaves me the hell alone.  I don’t have to put up with anyone’s bullshit.  They just keep their distance and I’m good with it. So it wouldn’t really matter if I left. I’d pretty much follow her anyway.”
“Okay wait a second...” Esme laughs. “....is that the same shit you gave me hell for? Just taking off and starting a new life?”
“At least I’m giving everyone a warning and letting them get a chance to get used to it. You just did it. Which took some balls, by the way. That took huge balls. Just saying ‘fuck everything’ and sticking around for some guy you barely knew. And before you argue with me about that, fucking someone for five days is not really knowing them, so....”
She gives a sly smile. “That was one hell of a five days, let me tell you.”
“I know you ruffled a lot of feathers when you did you, but I was proud as hell. My kid sister just not giving a fuck about anyone or anything. That was a ballsy move. I was impressed. And you know who else would have been? Dad.”
“Dad would have been pissed and you know it. That I gave everything up for a man? Remember how he used to drill it into my head growing up that I needed to be strong and independent and rely on no one but myself? Because I remember that.”
“You were a teenager. His tone would have changed once you became an adult.”
“Well he didn’t get that far, did he,” she sighs, and fights back tears.
“He would have been so proud of you kid. For doing what you did. And for the life you’ve created for yourself. You can’t tell me he wouldn’t be. And those kids? He would have adored those kids and you know it.”
“I know,” her voice cracks and she swipes at the tears that manage to escape. “That’s the hardest part, you know. That he didn’t get to see them. Because he was so good with all his other grandkids. He got a chance to meet them and spend time with everyone else's kids. It’s not fair. That he didn’t get that chance with mine.”
“It does suck. It sucks huge. You were his first girl. That was a massive deal for him. A girl after all those boys? He would have been extra close to those kiddos. I know he would have.”
“I didn’t think it would bother me as much as it does,” she admits. “I mean, he’s been gone for twenty years now, K. And some days it hurts just as much now as it did then. Sometimes I’ll look at the kids and they’ll do something or say something that reminds me so much of him and I think ‘I should call him or send him a picture’. And then I remember that I can’t.  And that hurts. It hurts a lot.”
“I know,” he reaches out and rubs her arm comfortingly.  “Sometimes it comes up and bites me in the ass too.”
“Can you not talk about this?”  she sniffles and uses the sleeve of her sleeve of her swimsuit cover up to clear away the tears. “I really do not want to talk about this.”
He gives a sympathetic smile, then picks up her empty mug and shakes it. “More?”
She nods. “Thanks.”
They fall into a comfortable silence; Kyle moving easily around the kitchen as he prepares more tea and searches the cupboards and the fridge for something to eat. Settling on a large bowl of leftover fruit salad and a container of yogurt, preparing plates for both of them.
“Holy domestic,” Esme teases, when he sets down the mug of tea and the plate of food.
“Well it’s not like I had to actually cook anything or prepare it myself,” he points out, and drops into his chair once more.  “But I’ve been picking up some new skills. If I’m going to be a husband, I need to be able to more than just use a can opener or a microwave, I figure.”
“Especially since I know that Nik can’t cook for shit,” she laughs.
“Right? If there was a way to burn cereal, she would do it. If I eat another plate of half cooked pasta, I may snap.”
“But I bet you keep your mouth shut so you won’t hurt her feelings, right? Don’t worry. I get it. Tyler used to do the same thing. The first year was nothing but shitty meals. And he’d just sit there and suck it up and eat whatever I fed him. He was such a good sport. And it wasn’t bad enough to kill him, so...” she shrugs.
“You guys have come a long way, that’s for sure.”
She nods in agreement.
They don’t speak for several minutes; enjoying the view of the ocean and each other’s company and the little sounds that Addie makes her in sleep.
“You know mom’s sick, right?” Kyle pipes up.
“Denny called me just after Addie was born and told me.”  Denny. Daniel. The second oldest.  A state police officer with more ego than common sense and good taste.
“Yeah, he kind of took that over. I wanted to call you, but he insisted that he do it.  And once Denny gets set on something...”
“He’s a total dick,” Esme concludes. “He called and hung up twice because Tyler answered. Like, grow up.”
“Tyler scares the shit out of him. And Denny doesn’t scare easily.”
“Fuck, Denny. He called for one thing and then went off on a rant about me being so far away and only thinking about myself and how selfish and childish I am and blah blah blah.  I don’t need his shit. And I won’t put up with it. Tyler finally got on the phone and lost his shit on him. It was epic. And so perfect. I don’t think Denny will be phoning again for a quite a while.”
“He means well, but...”
“As Millie would say ‘he’s a dick head’.  But yes. He told me mom is sick. And? What do you want me to do about it?”
“You’re her daughter.”
“No. I’m not. I’m dead to her, remember? Those were her exact words. That if I stayed with Tyler, me and the kids were dead to her.”
“A lot of shitty things were said that night,” Kyle reasons.
“She’s been saying shitty things for years. Why does that one night surprise you so much?”
“You can’t carry that around forever, Esme. The things she’s said and done. You just can’t.”
“Really? You just watch me.  She’s toxic, K.  She wished death on my husband. That is not okay. That is far from okay. And I’m not going to be around someone like that. And I’m definitely not letting my kids be around something like that.”
“It’s bad, Esme. Worse than the doctors initially thought. That cancer’s metastasized. It’s spreading quick.  Alarmingly quick.”
“Not my problem, Kyle. I can’t do anything about it. I’m not a doctor.”
“She’s your mother.”
“She was never a mother and you know that. Stop making her out to be Carol Brady or June Cleaver. She’s more what Captain Spaulding from House of a Thousand Corpses would be like if he became a parent.”
“She wants to see you,” he says once again.
“Good for her. I’m not interested. She spoke her truth, Kyle. About how she feels about me and my husband and my kids. There’s no taking that back.”
“I’m not asking you to forgive her. Because what she said is unforgivable. I’m asking you to just go and see her and talk to her. Hear what she has to say.”
“That woman won’t have anything good to say to me. Even on her death bed.”
“Do you really want that on your conscience? Not going to see her before she dies? You really want to be holding onto that?”
“I’m not the one who should have a guilty conscience. I hope her conscience bothers her to her last breath. But I know it won’t. Because she has no conscience. She has no heart. She’s evil, Kyle. Always has been. And maybe this is karma. Maybe all her shit has finally caught up to her.”
He frowns. “That’s pretty harsh, don’t you think.”
“I said what I said,” she drops her fork onto her plate and stands up when Addie begins to fuss in the swing. “You won’t change my mind, Kyle. So you can stop while you’re ahead. Quit wasting your time.  I feel nothing towards her. And she deserves that.”
He sighs heavily. “Esme...”
“My mother died a long time ago,” she says, and carries Addie from the room.

Reset
Anonymous said: hi, may I request something if it’s not too much trouble? it’s about saeyoung and the reset theory. but basically saeyoung and mc got in an argument and mc went to bed upset with him. saeyoung has a nightmare that once he’s happy with mc in the future, like with their own kids and a nice house and stuff, mc will reset and saeyoung will find that they’re back to day 1 and she falls for the others without remembering him. then he wakes up all sad and scared and he and mc make up. thank u so much!
Hi babe! I really liked to write the story although I’m not a huge fan of the reset theory but I had a pretty good idea so I hope you like it too! Please tell me your opinion!
Tumblr media
,,I JUST CAN’T BELIEVE IT!’’ he yelled at you.  ,,Can’t we just talk?’’ you asked him, still calm, full with patience for your fiancé.  ,,NO I DON’T WANT TO TALK TO YOU!’’ he yelled and threw the first thing which came across on the floor.  Unfortunately the object was a vase your little brother gave you as a present to your engagement party.  It was a very special present for you and so the situation escalated.  ,,I CAN’T BELIEVE IT! I MAY JUST DISSOLVE OUR ENGAGEMENT!’’ you yelled with tears in your eyes.  Saeyoung stayed silent about this matter.  He hated the though of you regretting choosing to marry him.  But he just couldn’t make himself apologize to you.  ,,I’ve told you so many times that I don’t want any children and now you tell me that you’re pregnant!’’ he stated once again.  ,,AHHHHH I CAN’T BEAR IT ANYMORE!’’ you yelled at him.  ,,YOU’RE ILL! YOU’RE SICK AND YOU KEEP MAKING ME ILL TOO!’’ you yelled.  You grabbed your hair and pulled them with your hands.  This made him realize that you were actually really stressed.  But knowing about your pregancy was just too much. Saeyoung just couldn’t accept that even he deserved happiness, a loving family, a wife, a life without worries.
,,You know what? Just forget it.’’ you sighted, taking the cake you did for him and throwing it into the bin.  The baby pink and blue colors mixed in the bin, making the sentence ,,Congratulations, DADDY’’ unreadable.  Saeyung could hear you sob, his heart was in pain. Just the imagination of you being sad made his heart crumble.  ,,Wait, I will help you.’’ he said and reached out for the plates on the table.  ,,Just go to sleep. I will come too but just go. I beg you. Don’t touch anything because I will hit you with it otherwise.’’ you warned him and glared at him.  Saeyoung quickly took back his hands.   Your red eyes and trembling voice made him realize how hurt you were.  Without a word he went in your shared bedroom and went to bed.
This night Saeyoung had a dream. In reality he had, just like people say, four short dreams. People sometimes can’t remember the different dreams or even associate them but usually they have four dreams.  But Saeyoung this night had a long nightmare which seemed never ending in his eyes…..
,,Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Daddy! Happy birthday to you!’’ four voices woke up a red haired, sleepy man.  It was none other than Saeyoung who woke up due to his family’s song.  Saeyoung’s eyes flickered a few times until he was finally fully awake.  He smiled as he saw their two little sunshines, as well as his brother and you, his beautiful pregnant wife.  His twins were holding a cake, and you were carrying a few presents.  Even his brother had a drawing in his hands.  ,,But, how can that be…?’’ he asked himself. Yesterday he clearly argued with you about the fact that you were pregnant. How could this situation…? ,,Daddy doesn’t look happy, mommy!’’ the little girl suddendly exclaimed, disturbing his thoughts.  ,,We should have stayed in Uncle Saeran’s room….’’ the boy complained and looked at his uncle who’s birthday was also today.  Saeyoung’s eyes fell on your smiling face and then on Saeran’s blushed face.  Now he got it, the drawings Saeran was holding weren’t for him but for himself, a present from the twins.  ,,Idiot, you should be grateful…’’ Saeran hissed and stroked his niece.  ,,Wait! No! I’m really really happy!’’ Saeyoung exclaimed and wondered about his own words a few seconds later.  ,,Come to daddy!’’ he added.  His children happily did so and so the boy placed the cake on the night stand and hugged his daddy.  ,,Come on children, let’s prepare the table for uncle and daddy while they wash their faces.’’ you said made your children follow you.
This gave Saeyoung the time to think about what was happening.  ,,Am I dreaming?’’ he whispered and looked at his phone.  ,,I just went to sleep and now four years already passed?’’ he asked himself.  He didn’t like the situation at all but he also had the feeling that his body was moving on his own.  While going to the living room Saeyoung actually wondered how the children were named but of course asking them would be pretty odd.  Saeyoung and Saeran entered the room together just to be surprised by a beautiful decorated table and a beautiful atmosphere. The background music was a lovely ,,Happy Birthday song’’ and the paper chain which was saying ,,Happy Birthday’’ in beautiful colors was a real eye catcher. Saeyoung really coudn’t remember the last time he saw that his living room was this bright.  A lot of pictures were decorating the walls.  Pictures of you and Saeyoung on your wedding, pictures of you being pregnant or you and him holding babies.  The most beautiful picture in his eyes however was the one behind the sofa.  You were holding the girl in your arms while Saeyoung was holding the boy. Both of you sat on the same sofa which stood there and in the background his dear friends were standing behind you.  Saeyoung cold remember having a similar picture of you and the RFA.  ,,Daddy I’m hungry!’’ he suddendly heard. The whole family except you was sitting around the table looking at him.  ,,I’m coming, dear, I’m coming…’’ he calmed her.  His heart felt pretty warm when he suddenly saw her smile.  She looked just like you, even through she had the same red hair as he and his twin brother.  Saeyoung approached the girl and kissed her head and ruffed the boys hair.  ,,Daddy are you okay?’’ he asked him sadly, making Saeyoung wonder if he never kissed his children.  ,,Yes, I am, why?’’  ,,You’re so cold to us today. Normally you always hug us and play with us…’’ the girl responded.  ,,Now now, your dad is just sleepy.’’ Saeran said.  ,,Was mommy giving you a restless night again?’’ the boy asked him and made him blush.  What were they talking about?!  ,,No, it’s not mommy but your sibling who makes mommy wake daddy up!’’ you tried to defend yourself.  ,,I can’t help myself if I have carvings….’’ you mumbled and placed down the Nutella.  Saeyoung smiled at you, so you were having carvings, huh?  The family happily ate together, the children were talking about god and the world while you were happily stroking your belly.  Saeyoung couldn’t really explain his emotions. Was this happiness….? Why couldn’t he simply stop smiling…?  The day went on, the RFA visited and celebrated the twins birthday.  Yoosung had brown hair and Jumin smiled a bit more.
,,Did you like your birthday…?’’ you asked him after the two of you went to sleep in the evening.  Saeyoung responded with a yes and you told him that you were feeling as if he was odd.  ,,You must be imagening things, Mc…’’ he said and put his hands on her belly. He could feel the baby’s heart beat.  It was an amazing, reassuring feeling.  Saeyoung thought that he could get used to this kind of living and with the thought to wake up the next day as a happy father and husband he fell asleep…..
,,I’m sorry…..I’m sorry…..’’ Saeyoung heard in the middle of the night which made him open his eyes.  And there he saw you, surrounded by a red light in tears.  ,,M….c…..?’’ he asked you, still sleepy.  ,,I’m sorry…..’’ you repeated.  ,,What? What’s wrong…? Please tell me!’’ he begged, now screaming at you.   ,,I’m so thankful that I had the chance to enjoy so much time with you, thank you! But now it’s time for me to go, I have to….please don’t be sad….’’ you laughed while tears were still finding their way out.  ,,Wait Mc! I don’t get it!’’ Saeyoung managed to scream.  He quickly jumped out of the bed just to grab your hand, a disappearing hand.  Unfortunately he failed and suddendly everything was dark again.  ,,MC!!!’’ he yelled.  In the dark he tried to turn off the light when suddenly someone opened the door.  He prayed that this person was you and that he once again just had a bad nightmare but he was just so awfully wrong… ,,WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU SCREAMING FOR?!’’ a long haired man yelled.  ,,Va-Vanderwood…?’’ Saeran mumbled looking at the man.  ,,Holy shit, just sleep you ass!’’ he hissed and slammed the door, leaving him in the dark again.  Saeyoung finally turned on the light and opened the door.  The living room was dark and cold, no pictures, no love.  His heart began to beat quickly as he reached for his children’s room just to see that the room looked just like a few years ago.  ,,SAERAN?!’’ he suddendly yelled and barged into his brother’s room just to find Vanderwood in there.  ,,WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING?!’’ he yelled.  Saeyoung was on the verge of a breakdown when suddenly his phone began to ring.  The RFA was writing….
,,Failed my midterms fml T_T *sending a crying smiley*
,,Yoosung….? Aren’t you already a vet…?’’ he thought but suddenly send a message saying :   ,,Cuz u played LOLOL all night lol.’’
,,If you want to work for our company, you should take care of your GPA.’’  ,,I’m still on the list?! +_+’’  *sending a smiley*  ,,Yes’’
Saeyoung couldn’t believe his eyes, what was he reading? The chat seemed like the one he had years ago when you first entered the chat…. Suddenly Saeyoung stopped breathing, it didn’t just seem like that but it was indeed like that!  A few messages later he noticed that you and Jihyun entered the chat. The leader begged everyone to trust you asked him later on to make a background check on you.
But Saeyoung already did know everything about you…  Tears left his eyes, for five days you acted as if you never knew anyone of your dear friends and they simply did the same.  Saeyoung just didn’t want to believe it but then, when you stated that you loved Yoosung, he slowly began to think that he was getting a grip of the situation.  Was this somehow a reset of your life?  Were they all playing a prank on him? Or was history repeating itself?  But even if history would repeat itself, shouldn’t you fall in love with him…?  Saeyoung saw the same situation three times, every time after eleven days the RFA seemed to forget you and you fell in love with someone else.  The first one was Yoosung, the second one Zen and afterwrds Jaehee.  Like always he got to see the same chats for five day.  You laughing over Yoosung, gossiping with Jaehee over Zen’s Musicials or admiring Elizabeth the third.  And after five days he got into a fully unknown situation, like Jumin kidnapping one of his cars.  Saeyoung couldn’t understand the world anymore.  At some point, at the sixth day after you entered the RFA for the third time he decided to ask you.
The both of you chatted a long time.  He asked you if you actually knew what you were doing but you were just deigning the situation. Maybe this was something he shouldn’t have done because suddenly he could hear your sobbing voice.  Once again you seemed really hurt, just as hurt as the time when Saeyoung argued with you, before going to bed.  ,,I’m so sorry, I don’t want to delete this app but it’s too much….I’m not living the reality anymore!’’ you sobbed.  Saeyoung couldn’t understand anything anymore.  But then he could see you. Even through glass was between you, he could see your crying face.  Tears were falling on the glass which was separating the both of you.  And then he saw a message.
,,Do you really want to delete this app? If you delete this app all your dates within the game will be deleted as well.’’ the message said.  And before he could say anything your finger pressed the answer ,,Yes, delete’’ and you disappeared.
,,MC!’’ Saeyoung yelled and jumped up.  ,,WHAT?!’’ you hissed back, turning the light on and looking at him with a sleepy face.   He shrieked when he suddenly saw your messy face, your eyes were red and your cheeks were wet.  It seemed as if you fell asleep crying.  A glance on the clock showed him that it was 5 AM.  ,,What happened?’’ he asked you.  ,,Holy shit, that’s what I’m asking you. What do you want?!’’ you groaned putting your hands in your face.  Saeyoung looked down at your body, you didn’t seem pregnant and you remembered him.  So, was this still a dream or was he in reality again?  ,,If you’re so traumatized about my pregnancy…..’’ you mumbled with a trembling voice.  ,,I will just go to Jaehee.’’ you ended your speech and got up.  So, he was back in reality, right?  Saeyoung observed you.  He remembered the good time he had with the twins and how beautiful it was to feel a beating heart.  And now? All he was seeing was a tired you going out because he was an idiot.  ,,I’m sorry…’’ you whsipered again with tears.  All Saeyoung could think of was the situation when you suddenly were surrounded by the red light.   His body moved on his own and he reached out for your hand, hugging you and pressing your body against his.  He breathed in your scent, his daughter smelled the same…  Out of the blue he missed his children really much…..  Maybe this nightdream was a sign for him?   ,,Don’t go, please rest, sleep next to me and never leave me or fall in love with someone else….I want to become the father of our children and live happily with you so pease don’t go….’’ he begged.
,,Why did you change your mind…?’’ you smiled when you laid in bed next to Saeyoung. He was currently stroking your back with his hand while the other one rested on your still flat tummy.  ,,I will tell you another time….for now let’s just rest….’’

Alone - Harrison Osterfield - Pt.4
A/N: I wrote this at four in the morning. bare with me cause I did not check for errors... I don’t want to make this series long cause I am planning other series that I am excited to share. Summary: the same as the other summaries... Words: 3056 Warnings: nah
Harrison barges into Tom's apartment, he was watching a show in Netflix with the twins and Tessa, “Hey what’s going on?” Tom questions seeing Harrison flop down on the other side of the couch
“Y/N has a child. She’s a mother”
“What?” The three Holland’s looked at Harrison confused and shocked
“You’re meaning to say that the kid we saw is Hera?”
“Yeah. Charlotte was with her this whole day and she said it was her child”
“Could it be yours?”
“It could be, I don’t know”
“Let’s do the math. How old is the child?”
“Charlotte said he’s one,” Harrison set his head back, staring at the ceiling
“Okay. Exactly a year ago with a few months, you two broke up. It takes 9 months for a child to be born. She would have either been hiding the baby good, she lied about the age or it’s not hers”
“She hasn’t posted anything on her social media”
“Maybe she was avoiding you,” Harry grabbed a handful of popcorn shoving it into his mouth
“Adoption?” Sam questioned
“No, she has to have a partner and a stable job. Those take months,” they all looked at Harrison for knowing this type of information
“You know. Sometimes there are people who won’t start showing until later in the months. That’s what I’ve heard,” Tom shrugged
“Do you think she was pregnant and didn’t tell me?”
“You were heading off with Tom to the states”
“When I saw him he did look like Y/N,” Harrison felt sick. He got up and went to the bathroom throwing up the meal he had prepared. He flushed the toilet sitting on the floor resting his back on the wall
“I left her,” Harrison kept mumbling to himself, “i left her”
“Here you go,” Tom comes over with a cup, “drink this,” Harrison grabbed the cup and drank the water, “for all we know it could be hers or not. It could even be the baby brother”
“Charlotte said it was her baby”
“You sure because you always jump to conclusions,” Tom looked down at Harrison
“No I don’t,” Harrison got up from the floor
“Yes you do. The twins can even vouch for me on this. When you were dating Y/N, you thought she was cheering in you but she was hanging out with her gay cousin. When you thought she was gonna break up with you because you thought she didn’t like you anymore she said she loved you,” Harrison let Toms words sink in. Maybe he was right. Maybe he did jump to conclusions fast
“I need to talk to Char,” Harrison touched the front of his pockets then the back, “I don’t know where I left my phone,” Tom pulls out his cracked phone and dialed it
“I don’t hear it here, you probably left it at your parents”
“Maybe you should go visit Y/N, I think Tuwaine knows where she moved to”
“She moved?”
“You didn’t see my messages I sent you?”
“No. I was on my way here,” Harrison let’s out another sigh he looks under the sink pulling out his bag that had everything he needed for the bathroom. He pulled out his tooth brush and opened the drawer taking out the toothpaste.
“‘O ‘yu ‘ink-“ Harrison spat the past, “do you think she still works at that restaurant?”
“Yeah I went in a couple days ago and I saw her”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because I went out with my family and you never mentioned it,” Harrison flared at Tom
“Are you two done making our?” Sam yelled from the living room
—————
Megan and Brianna went of to work, I didn’t work since I’ve ask for the day off. Wanting to spend more time with James. I started to record him, “I am going to teach you how to walk,” seeing James made me want a kid of my own. James wrapped his fingers around your pointer fingers, “good baby,” he started to walk but his laces were shaking “it’s okay baby,” he started to bounce.
“Mama,” I stopped and stared down at him I sat down covering mouth with my hand, tears started to spill out of my eyes
“Yes, mama, oh my god. Holy shit,” I grabbed my phone and went to the recording to see if I captured that moment. I pressed play.
-“it’s okay baby,”
“Mama,”-
I cropped out the footage until he said mama. I was still in tears and sent it to Morgan and Brianna. I couldn’t stop smiling, my heart melted like no other, I grabbed James and hugged him. My phone vibrated and saw it was Charlotte
‘Char: hey, I just got out of school. Can I come over?’
‘Y/N: Yeah, do you want me to pick you up?’
Not even a minute past when she answered me back
‘Char: no i can go walking’
‘Y/N: I don’t know if you remember where I live but here’s the address: ………. third floor, first door on your left’
‘Char: see you soon!’
I looked around seeing James had a lot of toys spilled across the living room. I started to put them in a box Morgan decided to buy when she went to target.
After a while waiting for Charlotte to come by, I changed James in to a different outfit. I helped him walk down the hallway back to the living room when there was a knock on the door. I walked to the door and opened it, seeing Charlotte smiling, “come in,” I stepped aside as she walked in, “how was school?”
“Pretty good actually. This kid and I started talking”
“Ooooh. What’s his name,” I walked over to the kitchen filling two cups with Morgan’s home made drink
“His name is Will and he’s very nice and great smile and a great personality,” I walked back to the living, “it’s just I don’t know. He always asks how my days been, how I’m doing, if I’m doing good and I just get nervous around him”
“You like him, it’s okay if you do. Even when your brother and I were together I would still get nervous”
“Yeah. He would too, he would barge into my room and ask if his outfit is good. Asking me what shirt should he wear, what shoes would match. I could literally hear him pace back and forth in his room every single time he would see you,” I felt butterflies already escaping from their cage and fluttering around my stomach
“I never knew that, but listen. Ask him on a date, sometimes girls have to take the step,” I suggested, “I asked your brother out for out first date, he was caught off guard,” she gives you a nod
“Uh. Last night. Haz asked about James. He started to freak out asking about the baby’s mother. I told him it was yours and he started to freak out and before I could say anything he left and he left his phone behind and my parents were asking me questions and I am so sorry I said I would keep your secret but I-,” I cut her off
“It’s okay, I didn’t think through as well. I didn’t want them to think it was Harrison’s child and that I’ve cut them off,” she let out a sigh, she opened her mouth but her phone started to ring, I looked over at James who bursted out crying, I picked him up looking at him if he was bleeding or something. Luckily there wasn’t anything wrong, guess he’s tired. I walked over to the kitchen and prepared him a bottle, he kept on crying.
“Hey Y/N,” I looked over at Charlotte, “I have to get going”
“Do you want me to drive you back?”
“No, Haz is picking me up,” I grabbed the bottle and fed James, “do you want me to tell him anything?” I wanted to tell him so many himga
“I do but I don’t know,” I walked over to the couch laying James in my arms and holding his bottle
“I’ll just say you said hi”
“Yeah. No harm there,” hopefully. I thought, I tried moving James to the couch but Charlotte stopped me saying it okay that I don’t have to get up. She gave me a side hug before leaving.
As she walked down the stairs Harrison kept a close eye of where she got out of. He saw Charlotte on the third floor. Harrison let out a sigh resting his head against the wheel. He’s gotten to the point where he’s trying to stalk you. He needs answered soon. Charlotte got in the car.
“You look like shit,” Charlotte looked at his brother, “Haz, you’re an idiot,” he frowned and started to drive.
“I know, I’m scared to talk to her”
“What is she going to do? Slam the door in your face? Punch you?”
“No, I-,” he lets out a sigh, “I still get nervous”
“Sam made calculations last night. They think it’s not hers… is it?” Harrison kept glancing at her sister as he parked the car
“It is, Haz, just talk to her. You still loved her she still loves you,” he looked over at her, “tomorrow talk to her, she lives on the third floor to the left. I like her so you better either grow a pair and fix this shit and get back together or you stop stalking and delete all the pictures from the two of you and move on with your life because right now seeing this is just sad,” Charlotte snapped getting out of the car leaving Harrison shocked.he got out of the car and into the house walking straight to the kitchen and finding his phone where he last left it. He saw two messages from Tom, ten messages from Jacob and one missed call from Tom. Harrison ignored the messages and goes to his pictures. He went to his private folder seeing, seeing them made him think of the memories the two of you shared.
Harrison clicked on a video he recorded, he walked up to his room
-“Haz, put the phone down before I throw you this place of pasta””
“Smile baby, please,” you couldn’t help but smile.setting the plate down in front of him, “it’s been… eight months”
“No, it will be eight months next week,” you corrected him
“Anyways, it will be eight months next week and she is still beautiful than ever”
“Sit up and eat”
“And fiesty too,”-
Harrison still remembered that night, her roommates were out for the weekend and it was just the two of you there. That night both of you were laying in bed, nothing intimidating happen just relaxing. You were playing with his hair as his head rested on your chest he hugged you. Harrison looked up hating himself that it ended. He always wanted to call but his thoughts always got in the way
There was a knock on his room door, “come in,” Harrison called. The door open revealing his step dad
“Haz, how are you doing?”
“I think I can manage,” Brian crosses his arms leaning against the door frame
“Why don’t you go call Y/N?”
“I feel like she’s going to yell at me”
“Have you seen her lately?”
“Yeah twice”
“Did she yell at you?”
“No because we were in public”
“Has she ever yelled at you?” He questioned Harrison, he looked down as his fingers trying to remember when was the last time you yelled st him
“Yeah, four times. Then she apologized,” a sly smile formed on his face, you always understood and communicating was one thing you’ve always been doing. Everyone liked you since you were always welcoming people and being friendly and shy.
“I’ve met her so many times Harrison and that girl looks at you with respect, she cares so much about you. Do you really think she will yell at you?”
“No, I’m just scared on what she will say”
“Talk to her tomorrow then, she’s a good girl and if you don’t do anything sooner you will lose her for good”
“I will, thanks dad,” Brian gave him a nod before he left. Harrison laid in his bed. Staring st the ceiling, he thought about scenarios on what could happen. He got up and walked over to his sister room he walked in without knocking and she was laying in bed texting
“Ever heard of knocking?” She spoke not looking at his brother. She knew it was him since both of their parents would knock. She saw she got a message from you and decided to open it
-“it’s okay baby,”
“Mama,”-
‘Char: No way!! That's so cute!!’
“Was that Y/N?
“No, it was a video on instagram,” Charlotte simply lied
“Does Y/N work tomorrow?”
“I don’t know”
“Well can you text her?”
“Why should I?” She looks up from her phone seeing a desperate Harrison standing up
“Because you’re suppose to help me”
“What do I get in return?”
“My unconditional love”
“Ew, no thanks. I already get enough of that. I want new pair of shoes”
“No”
“Okay fine. Make that two,” Hairston let’s put a sigh of frustration
“Okay, two it is,” Charlotte smiled. She texted you and waited for you to answer Harrison started to pace back and forth in the room
“I like my carpet that I have right now and I don’t want you making an oval of your pacing,” Charlotte glared at her brother. He sat down and her phone made a noise, Harrison looked at his sister.
‘Y/N: I work until four, you want to do something?’
‘Char: I might stop by if my parents don’t have anything planned’
‘Y/N: okay, sounds good, hopefully I see you then’
“There. She works until four tomorrow, I’ll send you the pictures of the shoes I want,” Harrison walked out of the room and into his. He lied on his bed and grabbed his phone ready to call Tom he saw that he called you, he was confused and saw the information, he called minutes ago. You answered and stayed on the line for three minutes. You heard his and Brian’s conversation. Great
—————
“I always hated that you never got mad that everything just went over you,” Morgan took a spoonful of soup into her mouth
“My parents always told me to never go to sleep angry and always say forgive cause who knows when will be the last time you'll see them,” you shrugged
“Damn, that’s deep,” Bri looked at me
“Do you think he’ll talk to me?”
“Of course he will. He’s also not an asshole,” Morgan said it in a ‘duh’ voice, “I think he will but who knows when he will”
“Do you think he purposefully called me for me to hear it?” They both shrugged their shoulders
“Will you guys be here for the tomorrow?”
“I’m heading up to my parents house, celebrating who knows what now. Always finding an excuse to throw a party”
“I’m going on a date with Chris”
“The guy from the park?” Morgan questioned
“That guy who’s always painting and drawing by the tree?” I also questioned
“Yeah that guy. You know what I told him”
“No,” Morgan and I said at the same time
“I felt stupid for saying it but he laughed then I laughed then yeah. I said ‘hey, I want you to draw me like one of your French girls’ and he smiled at me I did grab his attention and we started to talk from there”
“I can’t believe you did that,” I grinned at her. I got up putting my fish in the sink and washing the dirty dishes, “was it worth it?”
“I don’t know, we are going out Wednesday, if it goes well, then it was worth it but if it doesn’t do well then it wasn’t worth it”
—————
I thought Harrison would appear but didn't. I walked upstairs to the apartment and stepped inside seeing a passed out James on the couch with a bottle next to him. I walk down the hallway seeing Bri getting ready, “what time is he coming over?” she jumped a little
“He said at seven”
“You know it’s barely four”
“I gotta look good, I am kinda nervous”
“You’ll be fine”
“That’s what they all say”
“I’m being honest”
“When are you going to start dating?” I shrugged, “it’s been a year now, don’t you think it’s time to get out there?”
“I have a child to take care of”
“You have two friends and you have your parents”
“I don’t know, right now I’m not looking for a guy just James,” I looked back at James who was moving around, “speaking of, he is waking up,” I stepped away from her and went to James
I sat with him watching baby shows for who knows how long because there was a knock on the door, I looked down and saw James playing with his toys. I got up and went to open the door, a guy was standing there, “hi, you must be Chris. I’m Y/N, Bri’s roommate,” I shook his hand
“Hi, nice to meet you too. I heard a lot about you and Morgan”
“I heard good things about you,” he kept fiddling with his fingers, nervous maybe, “I’ll go get Bri for you, you can sit down,” I went to Bri’s room and she was putting her shoes on, “Chris is here”
“Okay, it’s now or never,” the both of you walked out and he stands up
“Wow, you-you- look beautiful,” I awkwardly stood by then, they said their goodbyes and left. I sat back down feeling more tired than before.
“Okay James, what do you want to watch? We got a lot of weird ones that I’ve never heard, oh look at this one paw patrol” I clicked on show and it started to play catching James attention, guess that will be his favorite show, I started dozing off when I thought I heard a knock on the door. I looked around probably imagining things, there was a knock again. I got up and walked to the door.

for the prompts: “i’m so sorry” and you can write for whoever you’re feeling the most ;)
hahahahaha so this took way too long and I’m so sorry BUT it’s almost 4k words so maybe that makes it better??
HERE BE QOAAD SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT
So basically after I read the Thule section of QOAAD I wanted to write something in which Livvy comes back to her family. Partially, it’s because it’s an angsty/heartbreaking/wonderful concept, and also because I wanted an excuse to examine Livvy’s trauma.
So here, enjoy. (:
Her family knows she’s coming. They’re prepared; in fact, Tessa says Julian is beside himself with excitement. Livia thinks she’s ready, too. The new Los Angeles Enclave is in Diana’s capable hands. Maia and Bat and all the rest of her council have practically begged her to leave.
Tessa tells Livia that the smart thing, the Blackthorn thing to do was to go. Looking back, that’s probably the thing that convinces her.
“You’re loyal,” Tessa says, brushing a stray hair from Livia’s cheek. “All Blackthorns are. You’re loyal and smart and strong, and you don’t know what to do when you aren’t needed.”
“I’m not,” Livia whispers. “Not anymore. Diana doesn’t need me, and neither do Bat or Raphael or-”
“I know,” Tessa says. “But your family does. Your loss tore a hole in them that nothing can repair. You know Julian wants you there. He invited you once and you said no because of duty. Because of loyalty. But now, I think it’s time.”
Livia nods. Tessa summons a Portal. As Livia steps forward, Tessa touches her shoulder, right above her tattoo.
“I hope there is a day when you no longer feel the need to wear this,” she says sadly.
Livia forces a smile, a tiny close-lipped thing. “Me too.”
Her eyes sweep the sea, the sand, the caves. She thinks of Cameron, his body walled inside the Silent City. She thinks of Rafael and Diana and Maia and all the others that have loved her fiercely, trusted her willingly. She thinks of the scorches in the marble and concrete of the Grove where a body once burned. She thinks of executions. She thinks of victories.
“Go,” Tessa says clearly. “Go, Livia Blackthorn.”
Livia steps forward. The last thing she sees before the Portal closes around her is the sun rising over the horizon of the new Los Angeles.
The first thing she sees when she opens her eyes is a very worried Emma hovering over her."You're lucky I didn’t sit up," Livia says, picturing their foreheads smacking together. Her voice sounds rough to her own ears. She was trying for a dry tone, but her voice just sounds...empty.
Emma winces and leans back, allowing Livia to sit up. “You should take it easy,” Emma says nervously. “You ended up on the beach, probably a little dehydrated.”
“I’m fine,” Livia groans. Her head pounds, but she sits up anyway, swinging her legs over the side of the infirmary bed and taking in a room she hasn't seen properly in almost ten years.
She can't make herself think about the Institute or her family or the fact that she is now in a world in which she doesn't truly belong. The immensity of it will crush her. So she looks up at Emma and asks the only question that makes sense in that moment.
"Where is my family?"
In Emma's defense, she did warn Livia that barging into Julian's attic-turned-studio would give him a heart attack. In Livia's defense, she wanted to see her big brother again.
“Julian?” she calls from one side of the door. On the other side, she hears a thump and a crash. “Jules? It’s-”
The door flies open. Julian tosses a paintbrush aside and stares at her.
“You have paint on your forehead,” she tells him after a moment, trying to be normal. Trying to be okay.
“Livvy,” Julian breathes, reaching for her, wrapping her in a hug. Like she did in her office, Livia leans her forehead against his shoulder, breathing in the smell of turpentine and paint, cloves and mint.
“It’s okay,” Julian murmurs. Livia’s heart clenches. Is it? “You’re okay now, baby girl. It’s okay.”
She lets him hold her and pretends not to notice when he cries. She wonders, distantly, if she should feel guilty for the dryness of her eyes.
The most gratifying reunion thus far is when Drusilla barrels into the kitchen, grabs a water bottle from the fridge and completely blows past Livia.
“Wait!” she hears Dru shout from outside. “HOLY SHIT!”
“Language, Drusilla!” Julian scolds from near the sink, but he’s smiling as Dru races back into the kitchen, nearly tripping over a chair, and wraps Livia into a crushing hug.
“Are you real?” Dru asks her sister, voice thick with tears. “Are you staying?”
Livia nods, reaching up - up? When did Dru get so tall? - to stroke her sister’s hair. “I’m staying.”
Dru pulls back. Her eyes immediately go to the scar running across Livia’s face. A sudden memory jolts Livia: their mother, standing in the kitchen, her eyes immediately fixating on any flaw in a shirt, a face, a painting.
“You look so much like Mom,” Livia whispers.
Dru reaches out to touch Livia’s cheek. “You look so much like yourself.” She taps the scar. “Except this. How did you get this? It’s so badass!”
“Language,” Julian chides again, giving the pasta on the stove a jab with a fork.
Dru rolls her eyes. “Jules, I’ve heard you and Emma in your room. You use way worse, and way more explicit language.”
Julian groans and mutters something under his breath. Livia can’t help but laugh.
“Come see me soon?” Dru asks. “We have so much to talk about.”
Livia nods. “Whenever you want.”
In retrospect, Livia should have asked Julian why he was cooking. She also should have changed clothes into something this dimension’s Livia would wear. But instead, she wanders the Institute that feels like a stranger’s home, and makes a mental list.
What I Know:
She finds the room that belonged to another version of her without any trouble. It’s right across from Ty’s, the only door with dust on the knob. There are pen marks on the doorframe: her height, and Ty’s, marked out year by year, stopping at age 15.
Livia touches her name. It’s not her given name, but a nickname she hasn’t heard in years. She adds to her list: Everyone called this Livia ‘Livvy’
She opens the closet. It’s modestly full of dresses, long sweaters, shapeless shirts and many, many sets of gear. She can’t imagine wearing any of the dresses. She pulls one from the closet - a green sleeveless dress with a short chiffon skirt and a low back - and laughs to herself. The other Livia liked dresses and gear.
She wanders over to the desk. It’s neat, like her desk at the Bradbury, only with more books: Sherlock Holmes, advanced calculus, computer science and programming.
Something in the back of her mind itches. She reaches for the calculus book and flips it open, batting away the dust that rises up from the pages. The numbers are familiar, but the problems are foreign.
This Livia was smart.
She sits down. The desk chair creaks. Someone other than her must have sat here; the seat is too high. She lowers it until her feet touch the floor.
“You’re shorter than you were here.”
Livia whips around to the door. Emma leans against the doorframe, body language easy, eyes hard. “Sorry,” she says, lifting her hands. “Didn’t mean to scare you.”
Livia shrugs. “It’s okay.” She looks down at her hands. Did the other Livia have these scars? “It makes sense. During our formative years, we were malnourished.”
Emma raises an eyebrow. “‘Our’?”
Livia feels herself flinch internally. Emma sighs. “You did that here, too,” she says, almost wistfully. “Talked about yourselves as if you were a unit.”
“We were,” Livia says, almost defensively. Two factions of emotion war within her. On one hand, she dislikes the implied denouncement of her relationship with her twin. On the other, it’s been so long since she’s talked about her family without the conversation surrounding their deaths.
Emma’s eyes go to the desk. “You know calculus?”
“I know math.” Livia cracks one of her knuckles. “I don’t know if I know this much of it, though.”
The corner of Emma’s mouth twitches. “I think you’ll figure it out.”
Livia doubts it, but she doesn’t say anything. Emma turns to leave, then looks back. “Livvy,” she says, her voice impossibly soft. “Don’t worry about trying to fit into a mold of another person. Just be you.”
“I’m not-” Livia chokes on the lump rising in her throat. She swallows, tries again. “I’m not what- who you lost. I want to be. I don’t want to cause anyone any more pain. But I can’t pretend forever. And I don’t know what you want from me.”
Emma twists the ring on her left hand around her finger. Livia sees the thorns emblazoned on the silver band and tries not to smile. “At your core, you are the girl we lost. I know it doesn’t seem like it, but take it from someone who knew you since the day you were born, you are.”
“How?” Livia asks dubiously.
Emma thinks for a moment. “After Julian hugged you in Thule, you touched his face. You patted it, as if the shape of his features comforted you. You’ve been doing that since you were a little girl.”
Livia sniffs, once. Emma strides forward to wrap Livia in a hug, her head against the older girl’s chest. It’s a little awkward with the chair between them, but welcome in a strange way.
“The way you talk is the same,” Emma continues, her chin resting atop Livia’s head. “You stand the same way, too. And there’s a very specific way you say your twin’s name that no one could hope to replicate, even if they tried.”
She pulls back, kneels before Livia, and takes her face in her hands. The Blackthorn family ring is cold against Livia’s cheek. After a moment, Emma takes her hand away, pulls off the ring, and hands it to Livia. “Here.”
Livia shakes her head. “That’s- that’s yours. From Julian. I can’t-”
Emma presses it into her palm. “I’ll get another one.” She smiles. “Julian would want you to have it.”
“What do I want?” Julian asks from the hall. Livia holds up the ring. Julian grins. “Yeah. You’re right. Put it on, Livs.”
Livia does. It’s a strangely familiar weight on her hand. Emma kisses her forehead, and she and Julian leave her be.
Livia turns to the desk, to the book full of pencil markings. On instinct, she opens the top left-hand desk drawer, where her desk in the Bradbury held paper and pens.
There, rattling in the desk, are pencils. And, beside them, a notebook full of blank pages.
Despite herself, Livia smiles.
She’s mid-way through her twentieth problem when Octavian barges into the room. “Livvy!” he shouts, flying at her, hugging her tightly. “I missed you! I missed you!”
“I missed you too,” Livia murmurs, rubbing Tavvy’s back. He’s small for a ten-year-old; she can feel his ribs and spine against her palm. “Where have you been all day?”
“I went to the beach with Mark and Tina and Ty,” he says. He pulls away and reaches into his pocket, presenting her with a near-perfect sand dollar. “Look!”
Livia feels her heart start to race at the mention of her twin’s name. She pushes her emotions aside and takes the sand dollar in her hand. “It’s beautiful, Tavvy.”
“You can keep it,” he says, earnest. “Mark says they bring good luck.”
“You need good luck, it seems,” Mark says, entering the room without so much as a hello. He sits on the edge of her bed and winces. “I forget how hard you like your mattresses.”
Livia laughs. “Hi, Mark.”
He smiles at her. “We’ll talk later,” he murmurs as Tavvy continues to chatter about the ocean and seashells and a seagull that took it upon itself to chase Cristina Rosales halfway down the beach.
When Tavvy takes a breath, Mark interjects. “Weren’t you sent here to tell Livia something?”
“Oh, yeah.” Tavvy grabs her hand. “Can you come to the library? We want to surprise Ty.”
“Surprise Ty?” Livia repeats, looking over at Mark for confirmation. “He doesn’t usually like surprises, Tavvy.”
“We figured if we told him, he’d bolt,” Dru says, poking her head into the room. “Come on. He’s getting suspicious.”
Wordlessly, Livia follows her siblings down to the library. She schools her features into the blank expression of calm she perfected over years of leadership, but inside, she’s quaking. She can feel her hands shaking at her sides. Her arms are slowly going numb. Her heart is racing, and she can feel her breath quickening.
She’s nervous, she supposes. And terrified. What if he doesn’t want me? What if he hates me?
“He won’t hate you,” Mark says, as if reading her thoughts. When they reach the library, he hangs back with her. “As surely as I know the sun rises in the east, I know that Tiberius could never hate you.”
Livia looks up at him. “Why are you talking like that?”
Mark laughs. “It’s a long story.” Livia opens her mouth, and Mark shushes her. “No, Livvy.” He pushes the door open. “You have to go in.”
So she does. Ty is leaning over a table, studying something in a thin, black notebook. “The shadow needs to be darker,” he’s telling Julian, who crosses his arms and leans against a bookshelf.
“Now you’re giving me artistic advice?” he asks, bemused.
Ty stands up straight. Livia feels her eyes widen in shock. He’s tall. He’s grown up. He’s practically a man now. “You asked for my opinion, Julian.”
Julian smiles, his eyes on Livia’s. “That I did.”
“What are you looking at?” Ty asks, turning. The moment his eyes meet her’s, Livia wants to bolt.
I can’t do this, she thinks, mouth dry. I can’t I can’t I can’t I can’t.
You have to, she tells herself sternly. Her resolve - the same resolve she had when she stood on a cliff’s edge, prepared to blow her brother’s head off with a shotgun - strengthens. You have to.
The twins regard one another from across the library. Ty's hands flutter at his sides, then go still.
"Livvy?"
Livia opens her mouth to speak, but no sound comes out. So she nods. Yes, it's me. Yes, I'm here.
Ty strides forward until they're an arm's length from one another. His eyes trace the scar on her face. She can see the conflict in his eyes, a push and pull he can’t resolve. A part of her is relieved. She can still read him. On some tiny level, she still knows him.
Behind Ty, Julian watches them. Livia can see the fear in his eyes, the silent prayer that Ty won't push her away.
She wouldn't blame Ty if he did. She's a transplant, after all; it would make sense for him to reject her like mundane bodies reject a foreign heart or lung or limb.
She looks down at Ty’s hands, now barely shaking. They look strong. They’re climber’s hands, she realizes, and then she has to tamp down the rising memories of knives and demons, water and blood.
Ty links his pinky with hers. She looks up sharply, physically jolting at the sensation, then nearly yelps when Ty pulls her to him, wrapping her in a tight one-armed hug.
“Livvy,” he says again, voice rough. Tentatively, she wraps her free arm around his waist, her upper arm still pinned by his. “Livia.”
"I'm sorry," she gasps against his shoulder. It’s all she can say. He trembles against her, the hand now holding hers spasming. "I'm so sorry, Ty."
He lifts their connected hands and places her other arm over his shoulder. He buries his face in her neck. She can feel the tears on his cheeks.
“Hold me,” he mutters. “Livvy, please.”
She does. She squeezes him tight and tight and tighter, until they may as well be the same person. He responds in kind, tangling his fingers in her hair, smoothing his hand up and down her back.
“I’m sorry,” she whispers again when he pulls away. “I’m so sorry.”
Ty studies her face. Carefully, he touches a hand to the scar on her cheek. “You didn’t cry,” he says. “Why aren’t you crying? There are tears in your eyes.”
Livia shakes her head. “I don’t deserve to cry,” she says. “I left you. Not the other way around.”
“I left you in your world,” Ty counters. Despite herself, Livia flinches. “And clearly it bothers you.”
“You have no idea,” Livia whispers.
“Actually,” Ty says softly, the saddest smile crossing his face, “I do.”
She does cry, eventually. After Ty disentangles himself from her to get something from his room and Julian sees himself out, she sinks to her knees on the library floor and wraps her arms around her torso. It’s cold comfort, but it’s all she can do to keep herself together.
She remembers the last time she did this. It was when she lost Dru, the last of her family. She collapsed on the office floor and wrapped her arms around herself, digging her fingers into the spaces between her ribcage as if she could break her own heart via her lungs.
Cameron had found her then. He sat with her, his hand on her back, and let her cry ugly, heaving sobs until her energy was spent. She hasn’t cried since. Not until now.
Before she even registers the tears, they’re falling, one after the other until she’s sobbing, biting on her fist to keep from making noise, twisting her shirt in her fingers to stop herself from shaking.
I’m sorry, she thinks, although about what, or to whom, she’s not sure. I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry.
“Don’t be sorry,” she hears Ty say, and she knows she shouldn’t be speaking aloud, knows she should stop, knows she should pull it together for him, but all she can do is reach up for him and pull him down to sit beside her.
“Livvy,” Ty sighs, guiding her head to lean on his shoulder, wiping her tears with a soft hand. “It’s okay, Livvy. You’re home now. You’re safe. No one’s going to hurt you again.”
“They didn’t hurt me,” she gasps. “That’s the point. Everyone else hurt. Everyone else died.” Her voice rises in a heartbroken howl. “And I got to live! It’s not fair!”
Ty is silent for a moment. Then, “I wrote you something.”
Livia lifts her head. “What?” She dashes tears from her cheeks.
Ty holds up an envelope. “I got your letter. But it burned when-” he cuts himself off, color rising to his cheeks. “But I thought...if someone ever went back to Thule, maybe I could reach you.” He places the envelope on the floor in front of her. “You don’t have to read it now. But I wanted you to have it.”
Livia dries her tears. “Thank you,” she whispers. “For everything.”
Ty shakes his head. “I didn’t do anything.” He locks his pinky with hers. “You saved yourself. Here, you saved Julian. And now you’re back, and I’m never letting you out of my sight again.”
It takes her a moment to realize he’s teasing. When she does, she smiles.
“I was wrong,” he says softly, standing up and offering her a hand. She takes it; he easily pulls her to her feet. “When Julian first told me about you, I was wrong.”
Livia frowns. “About what?”
Ty bends down to pick up the letter. He extends it to her, and she takes it. “You are my Livvy.”
In the middle of the night, Livia wakes up.
She may have had a nightmare; she’s not sure, since she can’t remember whatever dream pulled her from sleep to waking, but, in any case, she’s up now. So she turns on the light, smiling fondly when she sees Ty curled up, asleep on her floor, and reaches for his letter.
Livvy,
When Julian told me about you, I told him you weren’t my Livvy. I believed that, too, up until now. Now, upon further reflection, I think you might be. Everything Julian told me makes sense now. Of course you would have started a rebellion. Of course you would have kept us together. Of course you’re leading the survivors of the Dark War. I wouldn’t expect anything else from you, honestly. You’re a warrior, Livvy. It’s what you do. You protect people from the things that hurt them. You protected me from the world. You protected me from myself.
I’m sorry I didn’t see it sooner. In this world, you wanted to be parabatai, and I said no. I told you I would always protect you and stand with you anyway; why did we need a pair of runes and an oath? Now, I wish I hadn’t. I held you back, and I didn’t protect you when you needed it most. Logically, I know I was too far away to save you, but you have to know that I would have died for you.
I wish I could have died with you. It isn’t fair that you’re gone and I’m here. It isn’t fair that I’m gone in your world, either. At least here, I have my family. There, you’re all alone.
Maybe there’s a dimension where we’re together. I hope so. I miss you, Livvy. More than anything. I wish the version of you reading this could tell me how long it takes for the world to right itself under the twinless twin’s feet. Because I think my world will always be off-axis.
There’s nothing if you aren’t here.
I love you, Livvy.
-Ty
“You finally get to read it.”
“What the hell?” Livia hisses, lurching back against the headboard. In front of her, at the foot of the bed, hovers a ghostly visage: a younger version of herself with longer hair and an unblemished face in a long white dress. “You’re-”
“I’m you,” Ghost Livia says. She smiles softly. “This is kind of cool, actually.” She cocks her head to the side, seemingly studying Livia’s face. “I’m badass in your dimension, huh?” She crosses her arms. “Let me guess, you hate the scar.”
“How is this-”
“Ty will tell you,” Ghost Livia says. “He’ll tell you everything.” Some unrecognizable emotion crosses her face. “I have to go now,” she says, a little mournfully. “Soul theory is a strange thing. You and I are tied somehow, just like Ty and I are bound. I don’t know all of how it works, but there’s enough of you in me, and me in you, where I can’t stay here.”
Livia nods. “It makes sense. Our timelines were the same at one point.”
Ghost Livia smiles down at Ty, still asleep on the floor. “I don’t have to tell you to take care of him. I know you will. Just…” she searches his face. “Don’t leave him again. We’re not meant to be separated.”
Livia nods. “I won’t. I swear.”
Ghost Livia sighs. She tilts her head up, as if looking at the sky. “Tell Ty I love him,” she says. “Tell him you love him too.”
As Livia watches, Ghost Livia disappears. Ty wakes up with a start, blinking as if adjusting to the light.
“She’s gone,” he says, emotionless.
Livia nods. “I’m sorry.”
Ty shakes his head, clambering up to sit beside her. “I’m not.” He leans into her, bumping her arm with his forehead like a cat until she lifts her arm to encircle his shoulders. “I have something much better.”
She kisses the top of his head and smooths down his messy hair. Her own voice echoes in her head. I kissed him. I told him I loved him.
“I love you, my Ty,” she whispers. When he doesn’t answer, she looks down and smiles when she sees he’s asleep. “I love you. I love you. I love you.”
