My sister has already started being bullied by the white kids in her class for having body hair.
She's in 5th Grade.
Growing up as a brown girl, I had the same experiences with being ridiculed for dark body hair - on my legs, arms, face. I was emasculated by my peers and started over performing femininity. I began shaving behind my mamás back as soon as I started Middle School. It left me with scars from where I had a shaky hand and slipped, and I didn't know how to do it properly.
I bled to be "normal" by their standards.
From my trauma, I've been unable to shave in over a year. Now, I'm making the conscious choice to leave my body hair and embrace it - not for myself, but for my sister and for all the small brown girls who share our experience.
I'm still feminine and "normal" with body hair. It's beautiful and natural, thick and dark.
Let's change the standards, together.

Protect brown girls from unhappy marriages.
Protect brown girls from our elders’ narrative that all marriages are necessarily unhappy.
Protect brown girls from portrayals of divorce as “the easy way out” or “a choice only weak women make.”
Protect brown girls from the idea that they must put up with verbal and emotional abuse, lack of support, lack of intimacy and companionship, financial control, or more as necessary components of a successful marriage.
Protect brown girls from elders who are so unhappy with their own marriages that they cannot fathom any other kind of relationship.
Protect brown girls from the scare tactics and guilt trips they face any time they indicate the desire and intent to stick to their boundaries where relationships are concerned.
It is possible to find happiness and respect within relationships and marriage. There are people out there who will respect your boundaries, treat you with kindness and understanding, and work to ensure your relationship is a net positive for both of your lives. And if a relationship stops being a positive addition to your life, there is absolutely no shame in ending the relationship and seeking happiness on your own. Relationships are not the be-all end-all of joy, much less relationships that grate on you or take advantage of you or wear you down. You are worthy of a partner who meets your standards and makes you happy. You have no obligation to settle for less just because your parents or uncles and aunties did.

Tell me again how *Jason* was the angry, violent Robin.
(This is in no way a knock on Steph, to be clear, I adore her (obviously). But Fanon Jason bears a striking resemblance to Canon Steph sometimes, just saying.)

Until Dawn Movie Announcement Thoughts
Moving over here because somehow Tumblr of all places is where I can more candidly put forth my Until Dawn movie reservations. Reddit is a bit touchy now.
Okay, am I happy this means there will be a resurgence in interest for the game? Absolutely. Totally. Stoked and on the hype machine.
But… a movie adaptation of what is already almost a movie except interactive? What do we gain in that? Like here are some immediate things that are hitting me:
1) It could just be boring because we’ve seen this… cinematically… before
2) You mess with the sensitivity that is making things more “canon” than other things because the source is choice based.
3) If everyone lives, that’s kinda an odd horror film (though at this point, I’m preferring this option). If anyone dies, fans will be inevitably pissed because you’re actively picking favorites, and it shows.
4) This isn’t old enough to get a new cast. Most people seem very attached to the old one (I super am). Like idk… it doesn’t feel right to recast this? I don’t like it. Especially for Josh like… does anyone think Rami Malek can be replaced in this role??? The problem is he was too perfect.
5) I’ve just been bitten so many times with new material in my fandoms reversing the effect of the old or weakening the original meaning/intention and I hate it and trust nothing new years later anymore.
6) Is this in place of a remaster or sequel because now I’m wondering if we could have had a remaster and now I’m bitter.
Like I’m going to stay semi-sane and optimistic because yay Until Dawn hype! I just want people to talk about it! And who knows, maybe the movie will just be og cast Until Dawn with extra focus on the astounding bond of friendship Josh, Chris, and Sam share and end with redemption for Wendigo Josh, rendering it literally the perfect movie! There could be gold here. But red flags. Red flags everywhere.

fizziewebb Replied to your post“I’m pretty sure this tweet is about the new...”
Dude, P@ul didn't have depth. He had a pathetic and half-assed backstory that did nothing to make him sympathetic. Also, don't compare him to Gary. The narrative constantly justified P@ul by going "lol different training methods!!!1!1" and P@ul never actually developed and we're just supposed to accept he's better now, even though we never see him improve.
Gary's development was largely off-screen, but he was also never an abuser. It was easier to swallow. He, unlike P@ul, also faced consequences.
Also, Iris is not a static character. Do you know what that means? Dawn is a static character. Iris is not. Iris literally has tons of development, and if you think there "isn't much to her" as a character then you just weren't paying attention.

Scholarship and grant opportunity from NAAAP NY
If any of you live in New York State, NAAAP NY has launched a scholarship program and a grant opportunity! Here are the details.
Scholarship program: $2000 (and other benefits) for API college-bound students or current undergrads who demonstrate leadership potential
Project grant: $2000, mentorship session, and more for anyone in NY (not just API individuals) who has an idea, community initiative, or project that will benefit the API community
The deadline for both is March 31, 2023, with finalists receiving notifications in early April for interviews. I’ll drop the application link in a reblog in order to avoid this post being hidden in Tumblr search!

A lot of Tim stans think that Stephanie stans who ignore the countless times Tim has been kind to Stephanie just because he wants to be to turn him into a one-dimensional jerk who's out to ruin her life are bad and a lot of Stephanie stans think that Tim stans who insist Stephanie is nothing but a toxic and generic love interest are bad and i'm just like well i think y'all are both bad

5 Dermatologists' Tips to Take Care of Black Skin
Black skin contains more melanin than fair skin. As a result, the effects of inflammation and injury on melanin-producing cells can be more pronounced on black skin than on fair skin.
For this reason, we have identified five key points to consider in any black skin care program.
1- Cleansing and moisturizing.
To keep your skin fresh and supple, it is recommended to gently cleanse and moisturize it every day, ideally right after your shower.
2- Sun protection.
One of the most common misconceptions about Black people is that their skin doesn't burn and they don't need sunscreen. This is not true, and everyone should wear sunscreen.
3- Treatment of hyperpigmentation.
Hyperpigmentation, or areas of discolored skin, can occur on any skin type.
Sunscreens help prevent the formation of hyperpigmentation spots, but they cannot remove existing dark spots. Only dermatologists can recommend one or more products to treat existing dark spots.
4- Acne treatement.
If you have acne, it should be treated as quickly as possible.
Treating acne early can prevent it from getting worse. That can prevent the appearance of dark spots on the skin, a condition known as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
5- Nutritional habits
As we always say, good skin care starts on the inside. Eat a balanced, high-fiber diet to provide your skin with the nutrients it needs to thrive and heal.
