Summary ⍟ Bucky's evening cannot get any worse.

“Our next bachelor up for bid tonight is a wild card.” The crowd chuckles, but a few at the front tables stay mum at the glare he sends the group. This is the last fucking place he wants to be. “Grammy award-winning musician and songwriter. He’s the frontman of Winter Star, branded by Rolling Stone as the “it” sound to hear. His passions include reading by the fire, romantic cooking, and long walks in the…snow?” The crowd laughs again, and he, despite his scantily clad concert attire, starts to sweat under the gaze and heated lights. “Bucky Barnes!” The MC announces too loudly, the mic cracking.

“Fuck me.” He hisses under his breath, clenching down on his teeth.

He closes his eyes attempting to starve away from the humiliation and tries to think of a happy place. He gets as far as his own apartment, in the bathtub before a deep voice has him jerking back with surprise.

“I’m sorry sir, please correct me if I misheard. But did you say—“

“I said.” The tall blond steps out from the shadows and into the spotlight in the center of the dance floor— holy fucking shit, that’s Steve Rogers, Captain America. “Five hundred thousand dollars.” Dark eyes lock on him, and Bucky bites back the squeal trying to leave his throat.

You know what they don't tell you when you pursing your dreams and shoot to fame? That it doesn’t make you any less of a fan yourself. That it does not diminish your own personal fandom in any way. His childhood hero, the man who inspired his gay awakening—just paid half a million dollars for a date with him. Okay, so it's for a good cause.

Bucky blinked and shook his head slightly.

“What do you mean, the grenade?”

Across the table, Steve took a long, slow drink from his pint glass, averting his eyes from the glare that was coming directly toward him from across the table.

Masters Of Make Believe - Chapter 1

That's part of the first chapter of "Masters of Make Believe", my first AO3 fiction. Steve Rogers is waking up with a hell of a hangover, and is about to start his new job as a bodyguard to a bunch of pretty volatile rockstars :

"Hydra Records was looking for a bodyguard for its star, Brock Rumlow. Steve, though not a great music lover, recognized the name. He connected it to his teenage years, to the admiring tone of his friends when they talked about the musicians they idolized. There was Rage Against the Machine, Sonic Youth, the Dead Kennedys, and... Crossbones. With its leader, Brock Rumlow, who was a Brooklyn kid like him. A decade older than Steve, Brock and his band Crossbones had reached the pinnacle of indie respectability while Steve was still in high school. He was one of those figures praised not only by the media for his music, artistic integrity and political commitment, but also admired by generations of young boys looking for a model of virility and an outlet for their adolescent angst. His music, hardcore rock with a melodic side, his charisma on stage alongside musicians at the top of their game, and his openly anti-establishment lyrics made him a role model for all wannabe rockers far beyond his native borough.

"So, Rogers, ready to drag your ass on a tour bus?" Fury asked him when he showed up at Shield Security's headquarters at 9 a.m. sharp that morning."

Bucky’s phone chirped in his pocket, prompting him to slide a hand into the denim, pulling the offending technology out to silence it, until he noticed the picture message from Dugan.

The man was clearly in his own room or was hanging out the window of it at least. There was a small gathering of fans at the entrance to the hotel, clearly being warded off by security, but one of them had a large sign, cardboard painted white with painstakingly clear lettering:

As dinner time drew near, Clint and Brock got their hands on some lamb chops and chilled rosé, and started a barbecue. The smell of grilled meat had lured Bucky out of his den, and the three of them stood around the fire, taking turns arguing over the best way to proceed. Natasha had donned a sarong and sandals, and was listening to them, sipping from her condensation-beaded glass of wine.

"I'm saying you need rosemary with the lamb, that's the way they cook it here," Clint decreed.

"Oh yeah, and you got some?" Bucky retorted.

"Look, I found some in the garden earlier."

The drummer waved a bunch of sprigs with purple flowers under the eyes of his companions.

"That's not rosemary, you idiot, that's lavender," said Rumlow, taking the sprigs from his hands. "If you use that, the meat is gonna taste like soap!"

Natasha rolled her eyes, got out of her seat and walked to a flower bed bordering the pool. She plucked a few sprigs from a bush that was growing low to the ground, and came back to the musicians, who'd come to argue about the right time to add salt when grilling.

"This, is rosemary," she said, waving the bunch in front of them. "And you always add salt just before serving. Bruce would be appalled if he saw you didn't learn a thing from his cooking lessons. Maybe we should have invited him to come, just so we could eat properly."

They stared at her in silence for a few seconds, then gave in, grabbed the herb, and sprinkled it generously over the lamb chops.

"Sur la plage, dans le sable Je recherche des sensations Sur la planche, sur la vague, Je ressens des sensations"

This is…wow!

I never thought I’d get here (especially with the spam porn bot invasion of Winter 22/23), but 1k!

I can’t say it hasn’t been challenging, so that is going to be the theme of this celebration- Challenges.

From now (18th) until 31st of Jan please feel free to send requests for little drabbles- gimme a babe (or several) and a challenge for one/all of them. Sweet, spicy or soft dark! It could be a little challenge. It could be a big challenge. Whatever you want. (See below for some challenge ideas) I write for Marvel characters, CE characters and SS characters.

Also, for the weekend of 28-29th Jan (GMT) I will be answering the usual game asks- FMK, OVA, Would you rather, Cast your Mutuals, and head-canons about the relationships in my various series - please see my masterlist for Marvel and non-Marvel series. You can send asks in advance.

The time limit for the challenge is the end of June 2023 and I’m asking you to use the Tags #Challenge Yourself and #Jen’s 1k Challenge so I can find all your lovely entries and make a master list. I’d prefer if you stick to Marvel/CE/SS characters, but that’s not a hard and fast rule if inspiration strikes.

@shelbydelrey - Isa was one of the first writers for Peaky Blinder's content that caught my eye when I made my return to Tumblr. Writing mostly for Tommy Shelby and some for Alfie, she immerses you into Small Heath and the Peaky world, making you forget you're actually reading. I highly suggest you check out Isa and give her a follow.

@georgiapeach30513 - Jennifer has an expansive collection of series and one-shots for us readers to choose from on her masterlist. Currently, I'm most excited about reading her series A Losing Hand, which is a Mafia AU. Jennifer's casting of it looks spectacular for it as it has various Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan characters as well as other Marvel and actors alike.

@runnning-outof-time - K writes for Peaky Blinders and does a wonderful job at it. I love their blog after being back for a short amount of time, and I know I’ll be looking forward to what they post in the future
