#shipping actors from the gay movie for straight people
Note
thoughts on sokka and zuko's netflix actors ian ousley and dallas liu (jokingly?) teasing zukka in interviews? are they queerbaiting?
Tumblr media
For those who don't know what the fuck queerbaiting is: you know how Disney announced "it's first openly gay character" in literally every movie they've been releasing lately, and these "characters" are always on screen for only 5 seconds so it won't annoy conservatives or be banned in China?
That's them trying to use the promise of gay content to get people (be it gay people or someone that just wants to know if Disney will handle the subject properly) to watch their stuff. It's just false advertizing in rainbow colors.
Netflix, being the cheap bastards that they are, love using "We got minorities in this!" to advertise either their bland, bad shows that will get a million seasons, or the rare good show that they'll cancel way too soon because they seem to be alergic to quality. Either way, the gay content they promise audiences is usually there - you know, it's just not good because Netflix hates good things. Hell, they made Oma and Shu a lesbian couple from what I've seen.
Considering I've heard that the cast of the Avatar Live Action is pretty comfortable dunking on Zutara as a ship despite it being crazy popular and some fans literally only watching the show because they thought it'd make Zutara canon, and even having the balls of saying their show is less problematic than the OG one because they cut the plot of Sokka unlearning sexism, I'd say they're not claiming to like Zukka because some executive told them to, in the hopes of getting people to watch. The actors are probably either two buddies joking around because "Dude, what if our characters got together?" or saw some fanart/headcanon on Twitter and rolled with it.
So no, it's not queerbaiting, it's just actors voicing their opinion - basically the same as the Wedneday situation. The actresses for Wednesday and Enid ship their characters, but Netflix never gave any indication that these two would be a thing, and the internet only cried QUEERBAITING because people can't accept that sometimes the goth girl and the girly girl don't kiss because none of the writers even thought about making them gay.
And before someone inevitably goes "Oh but one/both of them are straight/don't want to discuss their own sexualities - are they queerbaiting when showing excitment at the idea of their characters hooking up?"
1 - Real people can't queerbait because their sexuality is a personal matter, not a product meant for other people to consume.
2 - If Netflix does want to make Zukka a thing (and I've seen nothing to sugest that they do) and starts promoting it, it's the CHARACTERS that would have to be gay, not the actors. I'm pretty sure Zuko's actor can't create/control flames at the palm of his hand, but that doesn't mean he's lying to people, he's just an actor acting. Even if and Sokka's actor have to play a gay couple at some point, it won't be queerbaiting for them to do so and even be excited for it/thinks it makes sense for their characters, regardless of what sexuality they are in real life, because the actors are not their characters they're just people doing a job.

I'm here to talk about Destiel...
The internet is a very funny place.
If you're in need of a good laugh, go to your favorite series, show, films what have you and ask what are you unpopular opinions with _said show_.
I have watched dozens of shows and always think I might be the only one, post that and see what happens.
I am a shipper but I normally don't talk or boast about what/who I ship, it's not relevant and it can be weird. I don't ship actors/real humans, that's crossing lines. Characters however, yes. Anyway, I have to bring up this one. One comment said "Destiel shouldn't have happened." Okay, I get that, people can get weird about it. Then they go on to say how every shipper claws and digs for stuff that isn't there.
And again, I'm not saying some people don't dig but not all gay/LGBTQ+ representation is completely shown in media. Mentioned maybe here and there, sure. But there's endless cis-straight-relationship romance movies, romance themes and what have you. Some series make really bad portrayals and give gay people a bad rap because they're the only representation. And don't get me wrong, sometimes we do dig and claw because we feel what they portray, or at least we think so. But sometimes we don't need to dig.
That same thread added the random siren or even the policeman from yellow fever had more chemistry than Dean and Cas ever have. - Him looking at the soldier's ass in Time After Time while walking in the store. Yes, those were weird scenes, why were they even shown? Great question, I don't know I'm just here. - And as for they have no chemistry... They won best chemistry award for TV... It doesn't get better than that.
This is more of a rant than I want but this is certainly one of my favorite shows. And I feel the need to say what's on my mind because I know I can't afford therapy, so this is the next best thing.
Oh yeah before I start this, I have read numerous comments accusing all the actors of horrendous things... - Firstly, they all have kids, and wives and love their kids so much. I don't think they would do anything to jeopardize that. So stop making up messed up shit. - Secondly, I don't want to believe other people make other people uncomfortable for fun, but some people do. But considering that they acted for more than 8 years together, I'm pretty sure working with people that are cool for that long, they all had a strong bond. And all the times that Jensen looks uncomfortable whenever Misha goes into or talks about Destiel, it's because technically they're not even allowed to say anything about the show regarding shipping characters because anything could've been true, it could've not been. If every actor were able to spoil their movie, we'd be out of movies but we aren't. And Jensen is a rather shy individual, funny enough. At the beginning of Supernatural he was 27, and Jared was 23. When Misha joined when he was 34. They were and still are wholesome and great people. Regardless, All of them would pull pranks and stuff on the show, they're friends, not some messed up whatever someone said, I'm blown away that people would even imply some things. You can look up any video of everyone being close with one another from hugs to dancing, to singing to whatever. So don't say "read the room" when they're just being themselves, I shift a lot when in public, does that mean I'm constantly uncomfortable? No. - THIRDLY, they were all lowkey scared of certain parts of supernatural, in 2017 they did an interview with Entertainment Weekly {this one} and said what the scariest episodes or concepts were at the time for them. Jared's was changelings, shapeshifters, demons possessing people, things that could be real but possibly something posing as someone but something's off. Jensen's was people doing really messed up things and that it was the most realistic thing that could actually happen. Humans being psycho. And vintage dolls, lmao, same. And Misha said that everything could give him nightmares. He's so soft, any of it could give him nightmares. These guys are human. Not some terrible against religion people, they play on a show. Pure human. Just like everyone else.
ANYWAY, I think we all know the infamous eye sex scenes LMAO... if you haven't heard of them... {here's 10 minutes of them staring at each other} and that's not even all the seasons
Tumblr media
They always look each other up and down and just stare at each other.
Tumblr media
Above, Dean says "Cas, we talked about this. Personal space." and then Cas backs off. He doesn't know why, he just knows it makes Dean uncomfortable, so to make him more comfortable, he takes a few steps back. But Cas isn't aware of how complicated humans are. Personal space are just words, angels shouldn't care what humans have to say. They're so primal and they need more than just basic shelter and foods, they need the whole pyramid of Maslow's Hierarchy of needs. He doesn't understand this until he goes through it himself, but we're getting slightly off topic. Sure, them continuing to stare could be just a funny little thing at the start... no. It still happens up to the last episodes.
This is the musical episode, Fanfiction, Season 10, Episode 5. Destiel, Samstiel and the most dreaded Sam/Dean are mentioned... They're brothers. As someone with siblings... gross.
"You can't spell subtext without S-E-X." Then Jensen gave this look to the camera, I think this is on behalf of many of the people on the show.
Tumblr media
Below, they end a scene after talking but it's about 15 seconds of them just staring at each other then it ends. Personally, I'm not a big fan of eye contact, and try to make at least 5 or maybe 2 seconds of contact in between interacting with someone, anything more than 10 is past uncomfortable... I don't stare at anyone this long. Legit the scene is so long lmao
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't remember the context on this but I just don't like eye contact. Both their eyes are gorgeous but I don't stare like this, especially with any of my siblings. When they have a hard time I hug them if they want a hug, talk to them, but I don't make eye contact like that.
Tumblr media
I have never looked at my friends like this, not my best friends, certainly not my siblings. Someone I had a crush on, possibly.
Tumblr media
Next, they are going in as Texas Rangers and Dean explains how to get Cas into character. "Yeah. Look, just act like you're from Tombstone, okay?" "The city?" "With Kurt Russell? I made you watch it." "Yeah, yeah. Yeah. The one with the guns and tuberculosis." [in a deep cowboy voice] "I'm your Huckleberry." [gulps] "Yeah, exactly.-"
Tumblr media
I don't have anything other than I like that scene and how Cas says, "I'm your Huckleberry" :D
(SPOILERS AHEAD Whoops lol)
-
When Cas dies Dean tries to pray to God even though he swore off praying to God. One of the lines is "We've lost everything." Mary's gone, correct but everyone else is alive, except Cas. They still had the Bunker, Baby, Jack. Cas and Mary died (she fell through and there was no way to know she was alive.) But considering that Sam is still alive, the guy Dean has fought tooth and nail to save all these years, is standing by him, ready to fight what may come. But Cas is dead... Dean obliterates his hand from punching on a bathroom door. It's frankly the most punches he's made in a single scene I think and even then, God doesn't answer him so he begins to mourn. It creeps in that his friend is gone.
When Cas is being burned, at first it peers to Jack who sees the man who is supposed to be his father, not blood father but someone who promised to look out for him, someone he doesn't even know, he feels the loss but he's just been born and he never really met Cas.
Tumblr media
Then we roll to Sam, he's lost a dear friend and is sad. He's wanting to cry and fidget and be sad.
Tumblr media
THEN we roll to Dean. His face is drained of all emotion. He has lost his best friend. His dear companion and looks like he lost it all despite his brother being right next to him. He can't even move.
Tumblr media
Now I would be sad if one of my brothers died but sadly I don't have that much of a connection with them as Dean and Cas have. And thankfully I haven't yet experienced one of my brothers pass on.
But I have lost a few lovers, and that... That is the face I have felt. When everything else feels irrelevant. You don't care about anything. You can't care about anything. You are numb.
-
And this all brings us to the finale.
Death is on her way, has them by their hearts, well Dean's in fact. They run/slowly walk over to Basement Storage Room 7B and Cas wards the room, slowing down Death on the other side.
This is the exact moment before he loses Cas for the last time. (I'm copying from the script on the Supernatural wiki, don't hate me, I watched it over and over too, and I've shortened Cas's monologue because I don't want to relive that heartbreak again lmao) But basically Cas realizes this is it, this is the happiest he has been. Everyone was alive and well, he has Dean alone at last. The last exchange they had was this: "You changed me, Dean." "Why does this sound like a goodbye? "Because it is." - "I love you."
Tumblr media
"Don't do this, Cas." - "Cas..." "Goodbye, Dean." "What?"
Cas pushes Dean out of the way and gets taken by the Empty.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He has to process all these years of interactions with this awkward little man with sensible shoes in less than five minutes and it all crumbles.
Castiel is gone. And he's not coming back.
Tumblr media
Sam keeps trying to call Dean but he's just getting Dean's voicemail and Dean isn't answering. He simply can't.
-
A few episodes later, Dean fucking dies. Just how he said he would, to a monster, like any other job. It felt rushed and I didn't like it.
But how they ended it could've been so much worse.
Dean makes it to heaven, expecting just memory lane, but Bobby's there and says Jack remade heaven new, everyone's together in heaven where they belong. He offers him a beer and tells him how different heaven is and how it's so much better.
Dean's sold, but it's missing something.
This is directly after Bobby tells Dean that Cas helped Jack rebuild heaven.
Tumblr media
After that, he takes a drive as he waits out Sam's life. He meets Sam on the bridge and that's the end.
For years, Dean didn't have an obvious love interest, here and there a fling maybe but nothing romantic. All the soft scenes were pretty much between him and Cas.
Their bond isn't brotherly, it's very best friend-ish but lovers can be friends too.
And that's my review on Destiel and why it's a thing it's 4 am and I haven't slept well the past two days so what to do other than write about destiel
ok bye :]

omg not u believing a quiz in a website made by a third party company solely for the purpose of a failed giveaway in australia that mixes up the movie and cartoon/doll continuities over an actual leaked bible from a huge 4chan (not reddit!) nickelodeon leak that matches up with stuff released after it that's firmly believed by all the trusted doll leak sources...
and what was that about twyla and venus?
Why is it y’all only have the guts to air your greviences to me on anon? I wont block you for disagreeing with me, I’m not sensitive or a wuss and I’m much more inclined to be polite to someone with a name and not a faceless nobody. Just an FYI.
An international branch of Mattel is a way more reliable source than Reddit & if you think it’s a flex telling me the “leaked show Bible” came from 4chan & NOT Reddit, BOY have I got some news for you about the legitimacy of 4chan.
Yes, the Live Action Movie & The Show have different canons… is there a point to that statement or are we just saying the obvious? Not everything is going to be quadruple confirmed in canon like Draculaura being Asian or Frankie being nonbinary (movie character, actor, TV character, voice actor) all things won’t be hammered in that hard so we gotta take what we can get and international monster high is fair game because Mattel has to approve everything they do.
That leaked show “Bible” is sketchy as hell & no Monster High enthusiast worth their salt has taken it seriously. If you know anything about children’s media there is a lot of language used in it that is not Nickelodeon appropriate and I’m not the only one who thinks so. We don’t know where it came from, who wrote it or who posted it. Y’all saw something that looks slightly official and ran with it and that my darlings is a fool’s errand.
Y’all need to be more critical of the information you consume and perpetuate. “You should believe in nothing that you hear and only half of what you see- Edgar Allen Poe.”
And we need to stop screaming theories as if they are canon. I PERSONALLY head canon Twyla & Venus as lesbians (not together, Twyla is obviously in love with Howleen) because UNLIKE Clawdeen who has shown an interest in boys in previous generations they have never shown an interest in actual boys as far as I know. (I also made a chart of Clawdeen being attracted to girls for equal measure) that is how I see them, I don’t go shooting off that, that is canon information.
I know a lot of you desperately want Clawdeen to be a lesbian, I am very, painfully aware of this head canon but it is just that! A head canon! Yes it’s a very popular & persistent head canon but it’s a head canon nonetheless. G3 Clawdeen appears to have a crush on Deuce, now we don’t have time to unpack that weird ass ship but it does rule out Clawdeen as a lesbian. It does NOT however mean she is straight! Clawdeen could very well be Bi or Pan or any other sapphic inclusive sexuality. I PERSONALLY see her as Bi (for the reasons stated above) but you don’t see me claiming it’s canon.
“But Jess! What about compulsory heterosexuality!” - Clawdeen was created by a gay man. Do y’all really think a member of the LGBTQA+ community would put her through something that was hell for so many of us!? I highly doubt it.
I do not make the canon, I just study and report the canon, if had my way everyone would be fatter, browner and gayer.
Please, for the love of your deity of choice: stop believing everything you read, always ask for a source and stop being so cool with people making fake leaks it’s not some fun new fad it’s intentionally misleading & a little cruel to those of us who aren’t so great at social cues.
Mattel makes the canon & if it’s not from Mattel it’s probably not real.

Writing Challange
For?: Anyone, but really I think it would be a pretty interesting study to have “anti-shippers” of the couples in question, to write these scenes.
Prompt: Re-write cannon scenes of popular “completely straight” gay ships that “fans created” and writers/showrunners/actors never encouraged or used as “queerbate”, as heterosexual relationships using the exact same actions and words and emotions as the original scenes.
Why?: I think it would be interesting to see just how many people would still see that particular couple the same way and how many would discover they actually do just have an aversion to gay ships.
I think that alot of people see the word “queerbaiting” and dont fully understand it. They take it like “oh they’re angry coz they didnt get their way, and they just want to make everything gay” … that is so completely not what it is.
Its understandable in a sense that the term queerbaiting isnt fully understood by all because theres no such thing as “straight-baiting” in television and movies. Its the actual complete opposite … when its a male/female relationship, its called a “slow-burn”, inferring that it will eventually become something. Its called “taking advantage of the actors chemistry” and while it is talked about and hinted at as a “will they/ wont they” its never actually in question because the majority of the time, chemistry reads are done between these actors for the specific reason of knowing “will this sell?” But when it comes to queerships, once upon a time they happened by accident. Actors were brought in with a different storyline and then something showed up on screen that wasnt intended and through that they discovered that there was this entire massive subset of fans who were not being acknowledged in life or on television … so they did exactly what they did with their straight relationships. They took advantage. They teased and hinted and wrote things that had they been a “usual” couple, would eventually lead to “endgame”. They encouraged the will they wont they of it all. Took advantage of that chemistry. The only difference? They never intended to give their fanbase that eventual outcome. They straddled the line of keep them invested but never encourage. And now? Now it seems that its become a requirement for shows, to have that one relationship that is strictly-straight friends, “which is so much more special then romantic love sometimes”… but they will still play off of it and benefit from merchandise and views and hashtags and everything that brings in a dollar from fans who are only looking for exactly what they’re calling it … “every kind of love” …. Why cant two women have a healthy faithful relationship? Why cant two men who are best friends, ALSO fall in love with each other? Why cant a character who has only ever identified as “straight” grow and realize that they’re bi or pan or gay? And why cant two people be both best friends and queer but also find love with other people? Why cant a queer man and a straight man have a healthy loving friendship that doesn’t have to end horribly? A big part of it is because of those words! Words that for so long have been used as homophobic slurs and still today in Twenty-freaking-twenty-four are used with hate instead of what they actually ARE which is how people identify how they LOVE . Words that the LGBTQIA+ community have taken back and fight every day to redefine with love and Pride and positivity, but that the “ entertainment industry” still shy away from due to a history of hate-filled, un-informed homophobia. An instilled fear that if they step over that line, then it will all fall apart. That the villagers will come with their torches and pitchforks and storm the castle so to speak. So they stay just this side of “not too far” and spout the company line. “I think its really important that we show every kind of love” but never actually doing that. Because the other company line is “who else can we exploit for a dollar?”. And its not new. The entertainment industry has always used queer people to their advantage. Once upon a time it was for the “hilarity” of a man or woman dressing in drag to get away with some scheme. Or it was about gay bashing and feeding into hate and fear by showcasing what a horrible insult it is to be called gay or how dangerous it is to be out. How sexy it is for two women to be together - but only to turn on the straight male lead. Now its become something along the lines of a joke again, but now the joke is “we know what we’re doing and we’re going to keep doing it because we’re profiting off of it, off of you.”
Queerbaiting isnt us seeing something unintentional or not there. Queerbaiting is this: if the same scene can be rewritten the same way but as female/male, and you can suddenly see it as romantic, its because the relationship is queer coded, to pull in specific fans.
Scripts are not just dialog on a page. While actors are sometimes given leeway, they are given a script telling them how to portray the words on the page. How to move, speak, emote. A director films this, re-sets films again multiple times until what is written comes across on camera the way it was meant to. This is all then edited even further to make things even more impactful and entertaining. It is then viewed and approved and only then shown to these “delusional fans.” This is all done knowing what reaction they will get from it. There are people who actually have the job of encouraging these ships. Of finding more ways to profit off of something that somebody else is in charge of disproving to fans by calling it unintentional. It is an industry, a business, nothing is unintentional. That is queerbaiting.
Challenge: Just change one thing. One characters gender, thats all.
Go ahead and give it a try. Im honestly curious as to the outcome.
Also add some ships that you think apply in the tags!!

So there's this poll circulating. A poll for the "most homophobic ship."
And the OP of this poll included Brokeback Mountain, so obviously as aqueer who lived through that 3 year cultural hellscape, I obviously vited for it.
Then I get to the comment below the poll
whoever voted for brokeback mountain I’m gonna hunt u down
What follows is my response, written as its own post becausee OP doesn't seem like the kind of fucker to actually listen to anyone else about this subject, and I'm tired of harassment from young queers who don't know shit from within their own goddamn lifetimes.
==
Yeah, so, it's me. Come at me! Hunt me down, mate! You won't be the first and that's literally why I voted for it.
They didn't ask which media property was the most homophobic, they asked which ship. Most of these fuckers aren't even in the source media; they're solely ships created by and for queer fans.
Shockingly, when a bunch of queers get together to talk about queering their favourite media, homophobia is a secondary emergent property, not a main goal.
I know! Stunning!
Meanwhile, and if you were not an out and proud queer when Brokeback Mountain arrived on the scene in 2005, you may have missed it, so trust me on this.
Brokeback Mountain was well loved by queer people. We adored it. It was intimate, and heart wrenching, and beautiful.
It was also hypnotic fucking candy to bigots.
This movie highlighted an "acceptable" kind of queer in a way that appealed greatly to the most vicious bastards you've ever met. The kind of queer willing to fucking die as punishment for the sin of being gay. Who die prettily, for the enjoyment of the COGAP audience.
That movie inspired hate crimes the likes of which your Fandom-centric ass cannot conceive of.
Whether it was open homophobia coming to beat the shit out of you so you'd die good and proper like those twinks, or the "love the sinner hate the sin" types who stood around saying if you'd just accept your beatings maybe you'd get better?
I have never experienced homophobia on that level from the other ships. And it was EVERYWHERE.
You can avoid talking about BBC Sherlock by just fucking going to work where people who don't watch it are.
You could not escape the overwhelming crush of straight people abhorred by your refusal to die prettily for their pleasure. It was on news. It was on every TV show. It was at work, at school, at the grocery store. You would hear about it on the radio as you walked to the fucking gas pump.
And again and again, it was all homophobes bemoaning what a beautiful tragedy it was and how this is proof that anyone who chooses to be gay is destined to die horribly and go to Christian Hell forever.
THAT is what the Brokeback Mountain ship represents to me.
Now, that's not the fault of the movie, nor the story before it, nor the characters, the actors, the writing, or any of that.
But the amount of homophobic violence that ship inspired is hard for me to wrap my head around and I was THERE.
So yeah, fuckers, I voted for the one that I have physical scars from.
Hunt me down if you like! Your ass will simply be the latest in a long, long line.

Hello! I’m the Artist!
Tumblr media
A little about me and Art, Au's, Wattpad information, and links if you want to read my wattpad stories! ⬇️
I am Mushrooming3! I am a nerd who draws things that makes me happy! (The rose is a tattoo I want to have one day)
I am not a professional artist despite me drawing for so many years. I do it for fun and entertainment and it really boosts my sanity :)
The funny thing is even though I ship gay characters, I'm actually not a part of the 🌈 community as I'm in a straight relationship. That doesn't mean I dont respect those who are! I love talking and collaborating with other artists it doesn't matter to me who is what, everyone is still a person.
I am currently in the middle of still growing up as I'm in high school. So bare with me if Im ever inactive for a little bit.
My birthday Is in January
I have been drawing for about six years! Since 2018
I also have watched Smg4 since the same time!
Fanfiction/Wattpad
I read and write fan fiction on Wattpad! (Mushrooming333)
I love horror, Adventure, Fantasy, and Romance!
I am known as the author of Smg4 and the Beast, the new account one. (waiting for wattpad to delete my old crusty account floating in the internet)
Smg4 and the Beast:
My 34 one-shots:
My main Au's:
Mermaid/Merman Au
Circus Au
My Smg4 and the beast Au is coming soon!
Fandoms <3
I love so many fandoms that go to video games to movies such as:
Super Mario, Fnaf including sb, Undertale ,Cuphead
Until Dawn, The Quarry, The Last of Us
Poppy Playtime
Ghostbusters
Nimona
Marvel, DC (mostly batjokes)
Harry Potter
Lazy town (sportarobbie)
Don’t hug me im scared
Beauty and The Beast (any movie version)
The Amazing Digital Circus, Smg4, Meta Runner
How I got here
So I used to have another account on here years ago which I stopped using years ago. Something happened at that time where I had to make a new account (which is the one I'm currently using) After that I gave up and used Devinart for about a year or two. However, in my opinion, that app sucked because the app crashed all the time, and its not the best place to go to for 34 as there were a lot of haters in the platform. Let me just say I didn't really get nice words sent to me, while I tried to draw different characters and fandoms like what I do now, versus my best friend @anonymousartist1727 who paints all of the time, lots of people love her paintings (which she's my best friend and don't get me wrong and her paintings are AMAZING I love her art so much she's so freaking talented! ) but it made me realize Devinart wasn't really fit for my art “type” so I stopped my toxic relationship with Devinart and came back here realizing I left my newer account here unattended, so I was surprised when I got a notification from Tumblr saying “your account is two years old!!!” :D
Smg34 or ships in general:
But of ALL fandoms I have been really REALLY fixed on Smg4 and especially Smg34. I understand why some people think they’re brothers, but it was never said by Luke or anyone, plus there’s a lot more sussy gay moments between them vs being siblings moments. Also they have joked about it before- And yeah they look similar but that’s how it always was even with the Mario models. But this is my opinion and belief of that, the thing is if there’s a person who only sees them as siblings and in their head that’s how it is for them then that’s how it is. It’s their world not mine. And I respect that.
I ship it, I also ship Meggy and Tari, or Meggy and Desti, and Melony and Axol. Plus Swag and Chris are such a old married couple just b*tching all the time lmao
I also want to say I only ship fictional characters, never real people or actors.

Hey.
Sorry if I’m interrupting anything.
I’m just curious.
Your blog description has “MCU hater” in it?
Why? I mean where did that come from? I’m just curious.
I’m not the biggest fan of it myself, but I’m more indifferent towards it than anything else.
Again I’m just curious. Nothing more.
*yeah it says a lot when the film I’m most looking forward to this year is Oppenheimer! I like to pretend it’s a film adaptation of the Trinity Desk Project*
not it all!
that's a very long explanation, all the higher ups and creatives say awful things all the time (espec in regards to bucky), they treat male trauma like a fucking joke and treat women like sex objects, it took them over a fucking decade to introduce characters of colour in main roles, they admit they don't hire people who care about the source material and called it a 'red flag', they hate the characters who aren't tony, they don't give a shit about telling good stories, they are dead set on ruining everyone people loved about steve bc they're mad about a gay ship (the ending, the way they forced in their nasty self-insert fantasy about the uso girls into steve's "canon"), they hate fans and critics who don't praise every single thing they do, the only movies that have had any heart or creative intent since twenty-fourteen are the black panther movies bc ryan coogler is the only left in it for more than just money, they treat their actors abysmally to avoid "spoilers" getting out, they underpay and overwork everyone who isn't a big name, they consistently white-wash and straight-wash and goy-wash countless characters who belong to marginalized identities and this extends to the comics, they admit they dont care about telling superhero stories, their fans will destory people's lives for being critical, they think an abusive white nazi is a better captain america than steve rogers or sam wilson bc #girlboss (actively supporting white feminism which is a facet of white supremacy), they don't care about hyping sam up as captain america at all, they think perpetrators of genocide are more understandable than their victims, they pump out shitty product after shitty product to maximize profit, they are known for forcing actors to stay closeted (kristen stuart turned down a role so she would have the freedom to come out), the fandom is horrifically antisemitic despite the comics being created by jewish men during the holocaust, they butchered moon knight's judaism, they do not properly compensate the people who created the characters they are making millions off of, they're largely responsible for the depoliticization of the superhero genre...i can keep going.
i'm not looking forward to a single project, if anything im bracing for the antisemitic violence that will come from cap 4's plot and title playing into a viscous and deadly antisemitic conspiracy which is also in the movie they introduce a jewish hero.

002 | Give me a character & I will tell you: Spock
I also got this from an anon so I'm assuming everyone's like we know how she feels about McKirk, what about Spock?? 😂
How I feel about this character: Okay, so… it is not the character, it is the fanbase. Spock is awesome! All three actors do an absolutely fantastic job! But the fanbase is kind of… too much for me. I'm not speaking so much about the intense love for him as I am talking about projecting things onto him that have very little to do with the writers' initial intent and then getting angry when canonical portrayals don't match up. Like, people will absolutely INSIST that Spock is gay and then get angry when he's paired with women in new incarnations, despite the fact that (a) bisexual+ people exist, so him being with a woman does not automatically make him straight, and (b) Spock was never intended to be anything but heterosexual anyway. I won't deny that SNW in particular has made some choices where I understand the frustration--I absolutely understand why Jewish fans are upset by the bacon scene--but I think the preciousness over Spock and his fanon is what puts people like me off him a bit. He's a great character, excellently portrayed, but I could really do without the people who can't recognize where their fanon ends and canon begins.
All the people I ship romantically with this character: I understand the love for Spirk! But of the triumvirate and its satellite ships, it's kind of the least interesting to me. I like how Spock/Uhura works as a companion ship to McKirk! And I think SNW is doing really cool stuff with Spock/Christine and the idea that a young Spock would explore emotionality that way (especially after seeing his parents' marriage).
My non-romantic OTP for this character: The triumvirate, of course! Particularly in Star Trek V, I love the warmth and camaraderie of the camping scenes. I also really love his familial dynamics with Amanda and Michael (Sarek is… complicated…), and when it comes to Pike, the SNW S1 finale actually made me cry with how it portrayed their relationship and its impact on both of them.
My unpopular opinion about this character: I kinda accidentally got into that earlier, didn't I. Oops. I think something that strikes me about Spock and how I relate to fanon is I actually see him more as aro/ace, but I understand how complicated that gets as a headcanon because it might imply that aro/ace people are unemotional, etc. I sort of see him as a keen observer of relationship dynamics (in McKirk fics, I always appreciate a Spock who understands they're romantically involved but keeps quiet out of discretion), but someone who doesn't necessarily desire a romantic relationship for himself.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I totally understand why the subsequent AOS movies past the first one used him sparingly--having him in the first movie at all is a base to bridge the universes on--but I would find more knowledge of what Spock did to rebuild Vulcan society and how he adjusted to a new universe fascinating!
my OTP: Secondary to McKirk, I really do see the appeal of Spones! I think they're an awesome ship and I want to write more for their dynamic (thus far I've written a friendship fic I'm still really proud of). I love both the silly memes people make about them as well as the serious meta people do about why these characters work as a pairing and their relationship to each other.
my cross over ship: I don't think about crossover ships that much! Although now that I'm thinking about it, I would find him having some sort of relationship with Garak fascinating. Garak lies and eludes constantly, and Spock is held to not lie but actually does, and I think they could play off each other in an interesting way. Plus Garak is so lively and jovial whereas Spock is more serious but also has a dry wit I think Garak would love.
a headcanon fact: In my fic I linked above, I tried to build more on the idea of Spock having a dyslexia-like condition that Discovery established. I thought it was pretty cool that Discovery gave a character who's well-known for his intellect a learning disability! I like the idea that it gives him a lot of empathy for those in similar situations and that he's able to use his past struggles to help those on ship crews or in academic settings who need it.

NEED TO GET THESE OUT OF MY CHEST SO HERES ARE MY OPINIONS
Seeing people headcanon a female character who dresses up or acts like a male as a transmasc and call her a he just makes me mad, Mizu from blue eye samurai for example, she is suppose to a female in male disguise but people are thinking and thinks of her as trans and is going by she/her and he/him and mostly call her a he, NOOO HER BEING A GIRL IS THE ENTIRE AND IMPORTANT IN THE PLOT, THE ENTIRE POINT IS HER BEING A GIRL AND TRYING TO SURVIVE AND GET REVENGE DISGUISE AS A BOY, SHE DOESN’T THINK AND SHE NEVER THINK THAT SHES IN THE WRONG BODY
MLM is soo overrated, like yes they have harder time being gay than girls do but is almost hard to find a good and accurate lesbian story shows and ESPECIALLY books and comics, and the most mlm shippers are literally mostly females, ESPECIALLY high school girls who fangirl over male ships. Take a look on heartstopper for example, most people surprisingly don’t like it because it’s too lighthearted? Like?? YOU FINALLY GET A GAY SHOW THAT HAVE ACCURATE AND GOOD PRESENTATION OF HOMOSEXUALITY AND THEN SUDDENLY YOU DON’T LIKE IT? You guys are sooo used to gay shows with bad endings and theme and it SHOWS
oh and also lesbianism is kinda getting sexualized? Like have you ever noticed how many grown men and like those middle schoolers talks about how hot lesbians are?? And how they jerk off to lesbian pørn?? Like I swear I heard a 13 YEAR OLD SAY HE WANNA FUCK A LESBIAN?? A 13 YEAR OLD?? Norway is fucked up. OH AND DON’T FORGET ABOUT HOW MEN WRITE ABOUT LESBIAN COUPLES IN MOVIES AND BOOKS! like I read a few stories of how women introduced their girlfriend to a male and they say they wanna watch like WHAT???
I said this before and I will say it again, Straight ships and couples are boring, (NOT SHOURTNEY DOE, THATS THE ONLY SHIP I AM OKAY WITH!) like they have been around for ages
WOMEN CHARACTERS SHOULD GET MORE LOVE, ever noticed in every fandom the male actors get more love than the female? It fucking sucks
BURGERS ARE OVERRATED! also they make me sick for some reason? Like my stomach hurts when I take a few bites.
Homosexuality should be taught to kids and NO IT WOULD NOT MAKE YOUR KIDS GAY!!
speaking of kids, I do not like kids AND I AM A AUNT! my sister had a baby two years ago, and a few weeks ago she visited and invited her oldest child and I have never been more uncomfortable in my entire life, Like I don’t wanna be mean but they keep giving me baby advices and talk about diapers and stuff to me which is annoying and making me uncomfortable. Gotta be honest, I don’t think I’ll be a good aunt. I’ll be that type of aunt to tell kids that Santa and the tooth fairy isn’t real.
maybe because of my experience but kids over 8 are like, not aggressive but kinda what the fuck. They making amount of sex jokes and especially boys are making racist and homophobic jokes. Like a boy in 4th grade threaded a classmate to kill himself and calls his mom a whore, I am not kidding because I have met this kids and he got a Satan’s mouth, he makes fun of disables, homosexuals and people in colour and is extremely offensive to them, It fucking shocks and disgusts me, Where the hell have he learned these words from? How the hell are his parents raising him? You know what’s the worst part? He lives in the same street where I live which means I would see him often which makes me nervous.
That’s all I have for now but if you got any questions please ask away.

You know the interesting thing is, he’s already welcomed with open arms into the queer community! The fans haven’t been explicitly told, no, but everyone in the industry already knows. I’ve looked (yes I’m bored lol) and so many of the people who work with tay also follow G. Actors from rwrb, the director, his stylist, etc etc…they ALL follow G. Other people who tay is friends with in the industry follow G. So what is the point in hiding it now? He’s only hiding it from the fans, no one else. So looking at it that way, I don’t think he’s being private for his career. Back when KB came out I heard he hid things to appear single and straight so girls could be delulu (which is kinda sick honestly). But he’s literally in a gay movie now so I don’t see the point anymore lol. Plus since then he has posted G and hasn’t deleted sooo. Maybe it is just what you said the other day. It’s just to protect the hubby. I’m thinking that is probably it. I still wish he’d post about him more and be more open/out to the fans. Garrett can still keep his socials private.
Tzp should just put his ring back on. That’s all he’d have to do. Why the hell wouldn’t he? Protecting his husband isn’t a good answer because the dude could still remain private. It’s disappointing to me. I get why he took it off for kissing booth (though I don’t agree with it) but now there’s zero reason. :(
Hi, the both of you!
Tzp have played several queer roles before rwrb and before kb. He's also played straight before. Maybe he wants that option still, to play both straight and queer. Maybe he's bi/pan and was attracted to rwrb because of the story of a bi man falling for a man part mirrors his own life. If he was to come out as married to a man, people would or could forget that he's bi/pan. He'd maybe lose out on straight roles. That might be important to him as a bi/pan man. Maybe he also would lose out on straight roles as a gay man, but that wouldn't be as hard to deal with as if he was bi/pan. I'm just thinking out loud here.
Putting on his wedding ring again would jeopardise his chance of playing straight roles. He is by definition a hearthtrob (said so himself) and he could be marketed as that if he were bi/pan (even as a single gay man). But not if he is married, then he's off the market and both straight and queers would have a hard time projecting their fantasies onto him.
I also think they are very aware that tzp and nick are being shipped. Both as alex and henry, and nick and tzp. Just look at the fan service we've gotten. Being married would also ruin that fantasy a bit. Nick and tzp aren’t their characters, but still. I don't think they want the hype around rwrb to die down yet, by tzp going 'oh btw, i'm married to another man, have been for years. All the great chemistry between henry and alex, and nick and i is great and all, but i have a hubby at home'. The fandom would be like a deflating balloon.
I think it will be interesting to see what tzp does next in his career. It might be very telling. I also think it's going to be interesting to observe the fandom.

I’ve been watching BL for about 3+ years now and consumed my fair share of series and I have to say the actors’ responsibilities to their characters/series off set is starting to feel very “gay for pay”. What I mean is the majority of the actors, in my opinion, seem very obviously straight but the shipping culture, rabid fans delusions on their personal lives, and requirements to always appear like a couple when In public (fan meets, interviews, reaction videos of their work, variety shows, selling products on live, etc.), make it so that they must always be “on” even upon wrapping their series and this makes me veryy uncomfortable and I feel bad for them. It takes the artistry or this is work element out of what is clearly just a job. I for one try to avoid most of the “IRL” stuff actors do outside of the series itself bc it’s makes me just so uncomfortable and embarrassed…. On another note, it seems like many of these actors take on BL to break into the industry. Is there much success in a popular BL actor pivoting into “mainstream” or non BL celebrity? Bright Vicharawit seems to be doing well and Mew Suppasit. Although I hate to say Mew’s career pivot rubs me entirely the wrong way bc I feel like he didn’t bow out of BL gracefully but used BL and the popularity of his shipped couple and dropped it all like a bad habit trying to erase its existence from his history... I’m sorry my bitter might be showing on that last bit haha. I hope I made some sort of sense. Thanks!
Yes, it's weird, creepy, and exploitive - from all sides. That's why I avoid all the fan service stuff.
With respect to Thai actors? I actually don't know if BL can be seen as "breaking in" since BL the big guns of the industry there. Where else is there to go? Het dramas are less popular, at least outside of the country. Not sure what's going on internally.
Presumably, Mew is getting this chance, and it's a big one, because he looks, well, like Mew (very appealing to a Korean aesthetic), and also I'm assuming speaks Korean well enough to get by. Also, he was always a very very ambitious boy, that one.
I won't blame him entirely for anything tho, MAME's actors seem to have it the worst.
I have my reservations about Korean BL too. I think some of the boys *think* they are getting a leg up but... still too short to ever be leading men material (by Korea's standards). Especially the idols. (”Ieg up” ... see what I did there?) And I think doing BL there can still do more harm than good because of the homophobia (like what happens in China). I think some of the working actors who happened into BL (like the To My Star Boys) seem to be realistic and have fun about it, but they're both established in themselves as people and as actors BEFORE the fandom happened to them.
Japan and Taiwan it's just another job. There seems to be neither weight nor stigma (these days, it was different a decade ago). You can gain a bit of international cred and some sweet modeling and sponsorship deals (see the Cherry Magic boys) and maybe a follow up gig in the form of a movie or whateves, but that's more like just... being part of a successful show.
I don't know, kids becoming celebrities. It's never gonna be pretty, that gruesome combination of performative ego, accelerated attention and wealth, parasocial relationships the then add.... fake dating the same sex in a largely hostile society.
Can't imagine any of these youngsters come out not borked in the head.
Now the ones like MaxTul or even, maybe, MileApo who clearly talked about this and how to handle it with each other, and have some kind of game going on (with each other and us as fans), and entered the situation more grown up aware and mature age-wise (and therefore somewhat fixed in ego and personality) - I don't worry so much about them.
But mostly, since PerthSaint went south what, 4 years ago was it? Yeah, it's ALL creepy.
That's enough of this kinda gossip.
(this post from this one on my reservations about pair branding)

Tenoch saying there's nothing romantic between Shuri and Namor...good news Shuri x Riri shippers, we won 🤣
but nah like on a serious note, I do appreciate how he responded to this since stuff like that is always weird to answer. While he acknowledges that people will still interpret something else if they really want to, he explains very well the nature of Shuri and Namor's connection as something that is a feeling of kinship based around the common struggles of their peoples.
However, the most important thing here is that he says a connection between a man and woman doesn't have to end in romance. He knows that people will make the romantic interpretation if they really want to, but he essentially says that that's not what the characters have and that there can be a connection without any romantic interpretation - in fact he implied pretty heavily that's what he preferred 😂
And let's be real, the actual characterization of Namor from his comics counterpart was pretty spot on: kind and good to his people but a total heartless asshole if you threaten him or his people, and he uses manipulation tactics to accomplish his goals. A lot of people highlight him giving his mother's bracelet to Shuri as something romantic - however, if you know his characterization more, this is really part of a manipulation attempt from Namor to get Shuri to trust him in order to solidify an alliance between nations. It's an action of "I'm giving you this very personal item so you trust me and I can exploit that later so you and Wakanda keep doing what I want you to do." He knows Shuri is still grieving and that her decision making isn't as clear as it would be if she wasn't trying to grieve T'Challa. And even after the movie, that alliance with Wakanda is still high key shaky at best, like his conversation with Namora definitely gave ulterior motive vibes. He was trying to build an alliance based on fear...the mindset of "if you don't do what I want, I'll just kill you."
I also think a lot of people were blind to what Namor's character is really like, simply because they were thirsting over Tenoch 😂
And LET'S NOT FORGET that Namor unalived a certain someone like HELLO ?? 😭 Even if there was some sort of chemistry beforehand (which there wasn't even), that moment literally killed any potential. Like I can make the effort to understand where people were coming from before that moment...but after that? Nah fam that ain't it 💀😭
Also, let's not be blind to the typical fandom clash between straight and gay ships. Straight ships take off after one scene if the characters so much as look at each other, meanwhile wlw ships have to "prove" that the pairing could be valid.
Ship what you want sure, but when an actor comes directly and says that's not how the characters were written or how they portrayed them, then that should be respectfully taken into consideration. I'd feel the exact same if Letitia or Dominique said outright that there wasn't any romantic coding between Shuri and Riri, but until that happens......🤷‍♀️🤙🤣🤣

What are your personal opinion about queerbaiting in anime/manga? Sorry for the random ask...It's just that most of my otps are of 2 male anime/manga characters that describes as bff/ rivals/ enemies that don't have any romantic relationships.....Even after I watched/read BL anime/manga, I still ship more of them that canonly are not a couple....Is that weird?
First of all, it's fandom! Be weird, that's practically what it's for! But I think this is pretty common actually. I know I certainly relate to it.
(I apologize in advance for how little anime I'm going to specifically mention here; Moriarty the Patriot is really my biggest foray back into the genre after a like 8-10 year break from being an otaku. I'm still catching up lol.)
I define queerbaiting (and I think this IS the definition) as a situation where the creators of a piece of fiction have realized that their media is appealing to queer people, and have decided to capitalize on that interest without any intention of actually letting a queer story happen. So, Destiel for example is 100% queerbaiting: (many of) the writers dragged that out very intentionally while also being disdainful of and seemingly grossed out by their queer audience. They just wanted to see how much money they could milk from it.
On the far opposite side is something like Our Flag Means Death, which is like a love letter to queer audiences and has queer people on the creative team and is just generally a joy.
In between, you have things like Good Omens or Hannibal, that maybe weren't setting out to be queer stories, but embraced the love from that community and allowed that element to grow within the series. The anecdotal story about Hannibal; that Bryan Fuller as a gay man was actually setting out to explore straight male friendships that he didn't feel like he could entirely access himself, only to have the chemistry between the leads shift the story, is something I really love (regardless of whether it's entirely true.) THAT is the kind of romance story-telling I want to see; something organic played out between writers and actors and audience. A living thing, rather than a set-in-stone script.
So, bringing that back to anime/manga, and using the series I'm most obsessed with, I think SherLiam is a bit of that. They've been very clearly fitting into romance tropes right from the get-go, but I also would not be surprised at all if our Senseis were responding to positive feedback from fans as they keep letting it get gayer and gayer. Though I have zero expectations of the words "I love you" or of an on-page kiss (and frankly I like what we have gotten better), nothing about it feels like a loveless manipulative money-grab. It feels like, "we like this, the fans like this, so we're gonna let it be as much a romance as it can be within the confines of the magazine it's published in."
In a more general way though, I totally agree with shipping not-quite canon couples above couples in things that are strictly romances, whether straight or gay. If you're watching a romantic movie or reading a BL manga, the ending is a foregone conclusion. You know they're gonna get together. And quite often sex is brought in very early.
Personally, I prefer a genuine will they/won't they. I like not knowing. And I like a couple to get really deeply emotionally intimate before sex factors in. So slowburns and things that never really become canon, or become canon right at the end, really work for me. There's always fanfiction if things aren't resolved the way we want, and in the meantime I can enjoy seeing a pair truly get to know each other in a way that most couples who only get an hour and a half of screentime or a few episodes just don't. I'll take 100 chapters of pining with no resolution over a couple hopping in bed after 45 minutes on screen.

bisexual richie tozier
so we all know about the discourse between gay richie and bisexual richie and i think is obvious where i stand here, but it's been bothering me too much lately, so I'm gonna put my thoughts out there even if no one asked me to
so first the first argument on why a part of the fandom says is bad is; "richie was canonically gay on the it chapter two movie"
and well they could try and tell me that all they want, but I'm still not gonna change my mind because is still subjective, in the movie it was never said richie was gay, neither was it explicitly stated
and you're gonna say to me, "but it was coded"
and all i'm gona say is ("oh like the book bi coded richie that you all ignore and underestimate" but that would just be petty of me so I'm not gonna) actually i didn't get that richie was gay from that, i just thought "oh he likes a guy, not sure who, but he likes one" so just making the assumption seems kind of a stereotypical and something that straight people would do, just because a man likes another man that doesn't make him gay and assume that is wrong
but andy moscarrietty and bill harder confirmed he was gay
the same bill harder that didn't read the book and just went with the script (look i don't have anything against bill, i actually liked his performance, it was really good, but again he didn't read the book) and the same andy moscarrietty that doesn't respect characters arc's and switched them how most convenient seemed for him and if they need the actor and director to confirmed it in interviews and such, they didn't do a good job portraying the so call gay representation, sorry to break it
"y'all can't let gay men have representation without trying to steal it"
i could say the same, people reading richie as bi existed before it chapter two, even before it chapter one, this character was seen as bisexual and andy instead of using his bi coding decide to joint his coding with eddie's gay coding, he literally admitted he used eddie coding on him because richie wasn't angsty enough (what does that even mean, a character doesn't have to suffer to be a good character), actually it was half hearted representation, just because he saw the potential to profit out of the reddie fanbase wich was huge and didn't want to let go the opportunity. he was going make it more subtle, so if that doesn't tells them how much he doesn't cares about representation, i don't know what to tell y'all
"representation is still important and they gave it to us, stop whining" (something i literally read)
look gay richie wouldn't exist if there wasn't previously a fandom that shipped reddie so hard and that same fandom was played dirty, not only by andy but the people that joined after it chapter two too, all those fic writers, edit, gif and art creators were bullied just by saying they didn't agree and still saw richie as bi, people were receiving death treats, being call homophobic and were drove off of the fandom, just by stating their opinions as if the 2019 movie was the only canon, wich it isn't
"who cares they aren't real, this are just characters"
well yeah, but the experiences that richie and eddie had are real to bisexual and gay people respectively and those aren't interchangeable (and the people being bullied were real too so), andy not respecting that is homophobic and biphobic, but also denotes then again that he doesn't care about representation, but if y'all still want to make richie gay bc andy said so, then go off you capitalistic baby, even so they have to respect the people that won't settle for his half hearted portrayal of a lgbt character, i want representation and i want it to be good and fair, i want eddie kaspbrak canonically being the gay character that he always was and i don't want andy stealing his coding to give it to richie, i want justice for this characters and the people that identify with them
"people still should respect other people's headcanons"
and i agree, gay men identifying with richie were never the problem, it is valid if you respect bi richie, identifying with gay richie doesn't make you a bad person, the thing is the majority of the fandom that saw richie as bi, me included, initially didn't care if people saw richie as gay, we were just disappointed and sad, but i used to read any fanfic and reblog any fanart even if gay richie wasn't what i hc the character as, but at least to me, it left a bad taste on my mouth thinking about gay richie, because i saw all the biphobia happening and excusing it with wokeness saying:
" yeah in the book richie may be bi coding, but it is a bad book because it has that orgy scene and book richie was racist"
even if they prefer the movies because of that, they have to be realistic, the movies were based on the book, andy moscarrietty isn't their grand savoir, the rights are still king's and he profit out of the movies, he is in it chapter two, be serious please (he was also high on drugs, which isn't a excuse, but it explains a lot), andy read the book (supposedly bc his treatment of the losers says otherwise), he's a fan, stop trying to be on the higher moral ground when you aren't, also the part of the fandom that likes the book better, condemned that scene too, just because we like the book, doesn't mean we don't have critical thinking about its problematics themes
richie was born and raised in the 50's, was a kid that didn't really understand what he was saying, he just wanted to make his friends laugh, I'm pretty sure he was imitating the comedians from the time too, this meta by @dear-wormwoods explains it better, but it just seats wrong to me that that's an excuse against bi richie when they don't have a problem using other of his treats like him being a radio host, his nicknames and pet names like eds and eddie my love, make sandy his girlfriend mind you, a lesbian (is that the only way to make his love for eddie more valid or what?) or having him say he wasn't really attracted to her, why is that ok? but bi richie isn't? if all of that is part of the book too? sounds pretty biphobic to me, but not only biphobic, is also racist and performative, (if you only care about his racism when it comes to his bisexuality, but everything else is fine, start questioning your biphobia and racism)
also just because the movies didn't say the nword doesn't mean they aren't racist, the only black character was strip of his arc, made mike hanlon just a side character that doesn't talk in the first movie and don't make me get started on how they portray mike on the second movie and no, I'm not trying to make anyone feel guilty for liking the movies, I'm just saying, be more critical and less hypocritical
also, also i have to say attacking people just because they like bi richie with things like "you're racist because you like book richie" or "you're homophobic because you're making a canon gay character like women" are so stupid, be for real guys, you don't even know if were are white or gay, because yeah I've seen black and gay folks being pro bi richie and you're just assuming what we are without knowing for sure and just making us feel bad and even if we were white what's the problem, we just like the book characterization and that's totally valid

Okayyyy here I go😭 THE UNBEARABLE WEIGHT OF MASSIVE TALENT
I have to talk about this movie. Because it is a masterpiece and I am going to rewatch it many times to study the nuances, so *some spoilers*
>>>
Everyone’s been fixated on Pedro Pascal and for good reason. Javi is one of the best written and acted characters I’ve ever seen, and there’s a constant tension because you just want to like him but you’re not sure if you should.
But this is a Bromance. And he’s only half the equation.
Nicholas Cage held nothing back for this movie, and what’s absolutely insane is that this isn’t really him at all.
*glances nervously at the industry before continuing
Nicholas Cage, from everything I can find, is a quirky, average person. He likes action movies. He likes acting. He prioritizes his family, and he likes to read books and sit in chairs with a cat. And that is the basis of his reality. Explosions, popcorn flicks, get paid, relax with the family.
But Nick Cage. Ohhhoho no. Nick Cage is a tormented artist, struggling with the weight of what it means to create fine art in a world that only wants car chases and guns. He cares about meaning and purpose and finding meaning in life. What it is to feel alive, why art even matters…he wants things to move him. And he finds his match in Javi.
AND THIS IS THE UNBELIEVABLE PART OKAY?!? I DO NOT KNOW IF HE EVEN KNEW HE WAS CREATING A SELF AWARE AND BITTERSWEET BROM-COM. I DON’T THINK HE UNDERSTANDS THE SCRIPT AND THE MOVIE BECAUSE THATS NOT ACTUALLY HOW HE THINKS.
So what this means. Is that Nicholas Cage, a basic oblivious white actor with some films on his IMDb, who won’t even watch the movie, has just created a poignant queer lighthearted hopeful tragedy without knowing it.
These people not only got permission to make it, but coached him somehow to deliver very believable performances, and managed to create GAY LA LA LAND, complete with the tragically “happy ending.”
And only some of the people watching will even know what they’re watching. It could be a buddy comedy to them. It could have a happy ending. Good for them, they have girls in their lives. But they’re missing the complete point of the movie.
And what kills me the most is the real villain is the audience. The movie is a baklava of layered subtext, with the “movie” they’re writing often referring to the story they’re in. And both of them want a “beautiful character piece,” but they both realize that the people, the industry…those people wouldn’t watch it. Wouldn’t get it. Wouldn’t support it. They decide with heavy hearts that it should then turn into a “Hollywood blockbuster.”
They want a nuanced gay love story, a drama, a poignant art piece. But the only way it’ll get made is if they cleverly disguise it as a guns and explosions movie. Because that will get people in the theaters. And there’s a devastation, a heartbreaking turn as the story shifts. They know it has to. But they don’t want to point guns at each other. They don’t want cheap explosions and kidnappings. But that is the way it must be.
ALL WHILE NICHOLAS CAGE HAD NO IDEA ABOUT THIS. I really think he mostly did it because of the explosions😭
But I just know that Pedro Pascal understood the assignment. That Javi’s forbidden love wasn’t just about some random girl, it was about his icon. About the person he understood the most. The one who asked to trade shoes with him.
PEDRO PASCAL IS AMAZING IN THIS MOVIE BECAUSE HE KNEW ALL THE ANGLES. JAVI IS A CHARMING BUT THREATENING GUY WHO TURNS OUT TO JUST BE THE GAY SOFTBOY WE ALL THOUGHT HE WAS.
NICHOLAS CAGE IS AMAZING IN THIS MOVIE BECAUSE THE ENTIRE CREW MANAGED TO PULL A HEARTSTOPPINGLY GAY PERFORMANCE OUT OF A STRAIGHT MAN WITHOUT HIM EVEN KNOWING. TURNING HIS MEMED AND CHAOTIC FILMOGRAPHY INTO THE BACKDROP FOR AN ACHING LONELY ARTIST PERSONA WHO WANTED ART AND LOVE AND TO FEEL SOMETHING AGAIN.
Sure, write your Javi x reader fanfics but don’t forget the Nick x Javi ones. Because this is a ship we need to protect. One that who knows how many people secretly fought for. A closeted masterpiece explaining why it can’t fully come out.
It was too short on purpose. It was fleeting and beautiful, and all our beautiful moments were exchanged for dark basements and kidnappings and guns, because that’s what the people crave. Mindless violence. Fast food stories.
SIDE NOTE IT’S ALSO HILARIOUS AND YOU’LL LAUGH SO MUCH LIKE HOWWWW
>>>
There are so many things that I know I’ve missed, and things I want to find once I own it😅
But here are bonus notes:
- the movie The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari is about an evil controlling man who makes an innocent pawn kidnap a girl.
- the movie Paddington 2 is about Paddington Bear being wrongly imprisoned and bringing the best out of his seemingly intimidating cell mates.
Already loads of theories just with that. Go dig up more. Study story and art and write the gayest shit you can. Fight for all the art. Because otherwise it’ll be taped over and replaced with what some grumpy old men with family money want just because they think they own everything. Ehehehe oh crud I’m gonna get cancelled. While I’m at it, yes. The title is a dick joke.

YES it's a terrible storyline, this idea they're each others long lost star crossed lovers was just completely unbelievable. the only thing we saw them do together was have sex.
I fully believe Harry's participation in this movie was to satisfy the Gayrries sex fantasies of him with men and also to possibly get him more recognition as an actor if it had done well and gotten good reviews. It failed at both. Some Gayrries were satisfied, but I think deep down most realized he isn't actually gay because of how bad the sex scenes and the chemistry between the main characters was. Otherwise, why aren't most of them talking about it anymore? I've seen more people say they liked DWD even though that was surrounded by a ton of drama and people hated Olivia.
definitely. i think he knew the queerbaiting would be perfect for his audience to finally see him fuck a man. it's the only thing he knows full well his fans have always wanted from him.
and he also knows that when straight actors play queer male characters, it's total oscars bait. it's a bit less now of course, but i think harry still thinks old school about this and thinks that voters are still incredibly in awe a straight man would willingly be romantic with a dude and make it look good.
but yes, it flopped for what you said. the chemistry was appalling. nothing from harry's end. total deadness. and exactly. they claim harry has chemistry with every man. that this was his big gay outing. surely he'd want to go all in, surely we'd see how natural this was to him, the REAL him, finally we could see what a fantastic tantalising gay lover he is! how he seduces men! how he only has chemistry with dudes!
and it's awful. one reviewer said the scenes between them almost looked like rape because of how uncomfortable harry's character was, but i don't think it's the character, i think it's harry's acting.
and his sexual prowess is fucking bizarre. those devour face kisses he does on top of people's whole mouths, right away, without any build up. like does he know how to build up in sex? does he know what foreplay is? right away it's a big devour your entire face kiss as though that's what passion and sexiness is. but it's not, it's the slow burn, the real chemistry, the feeling we're watching something truly building up between people. he clearly doesn't understand that.
the fact that none of his fans ship him and dawson, and that those gifs or discussions or fanfic of the movie are almost non existent says it all. i never see anyone for example on twitter with a harry MP avatar. his fans realized it was a dud, got off to the sex scenes, and then pretended it never happened.
