Well, this is quite the stunning fellow.
Meet Irura bidenticulata, a spectacular, purple-and-gold jumping spider.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look at that purple sheen!!
It’s a pretty small spider, at around 6mm long. This species was once thought to belong in the genus Simaetha, and in an 2011 paper finally describing the spider, it was found that it belonged in the genus Irura, and thus Irura bidenticulata.
They seem to be found in Southeast Asia and Southeastern China, but never seem to be common anywhere, except, for this little paradise known as Hong Kong. From April to May, I got to meet these little beauties many times on Hong Kong Island.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Curious enough, all of these that I found happen to be males. Females tend to be gold and black, and fluffy pedipalps. I was hoping to breed them someday, but I never got to find a female.
When June came along, I was actually quite sad to no longer find them. They are my absolute favourite arachnids and I doubt much could top them.
Hope everyone learnt something new today, and have a little more appreciation for the tiny critters around us (:

do you have any good female fics to rec?
DO I. LOL. Putting this immediately under a cut because there are a lot! There are so many talented writers in this fandom who do ENORMOUS justice to female characters, both original and book-based. Couple of blog recs at the bottom too!
(I'm assuming this is asking for Tolkien fanfic since that's mostly what I'm on about these days, but if you'd rather see Mass Effect or Dragon Age I can do that too.)
I'm glad you asked! φ(* ̄0 ̄)
I'm going to keep all of these to 1 rec per author just so we don't get totally out of control here.
Forging Gold by @swanmaids ft. Curufin's wife, Dwarf OCs. Heather is an amazing source of female character fic in this fandom; she has well-developed OCs for all of Feanor's daughters-in-law and treats canon female characters with such care and love. Absolutely recommend checking out the rest of her stuff!
Prick a Finger, Cut Your Hand by @welcomingdisaster ft. Indis, Miriel. A really great look at the dynamic between these two. Lena has lots of other good takes on female Tolkien characters too!
Friendship and Stern Demand by @polutrope ft. Elwing. Fantastic exploration of what the communications between Elwing and Maedhros might have looked like!
Untitled by @outofangband ft. Aerin, Morwen. Nelyo focuses a lot on the human characters so if you want to read more about what the mortal women went through in the First Age, definitely browse through their blog!
Abide, Abound by Elleth ft. Arwen, Tauriel. Elleth also has lots of works centering on female Tolkien characters.
And by their blazing signify that a great princess falls, but doth not die by TheLionInMyBed ft. Elwing. One of my favorite takes on Elwing's suicide.
Keeper of Kings by batshape ft. Lalwen. What did Lalwen get up to in Middle-earth? Seeing a lot of people die, for one thing.
Into the Heart of a Fey Thing by @amethysttribble ft. Aredhel, Galadriel, Luthien. Fun "behind-the-scenes" look at some adventures with these three!
A Fish Hook, an Open Eye by simaetha ft. Elwing, f!Maglor. Fascinating AU take on a meeting between Elwing and Maglor prior to the Third Kinslaying.
The Sleep of Flowers by Innin ft. Galadriel, Melian. Very beautiful scene, and plenty of other female-centric works by Innin!
Light Words About Nothing by Margo_Kim ft. Dis, Belladonna. I ship it.
Elwing's Strategy by lifeisyetfair ft. Elwing. Another great take on Elwing at the Third Kinslaying.
Out of Dreams, Into the Sun by solanaceae ft. Miriel, Indis.
Games and Fantasy by Genesis_Grey ft. Arwen, Eowyn. Ohh it captures that chivalric WLW so well.
Over the Unclear Eyes of Memory by Loriand_Lost ft. Anaire, Aredhel. Addresses Anaire's complicated feelings about Fingolfin's return to Valinor. This author also has a number of other great female-centric fics, highly recommend!
The Carriage Held but Just Ourselves by @starspray ft. Luthien, Elwing, Arwen. Amazing look at the line of Thingol's relationship with death. This author also has a whole series on Lalwen and an OFC!
Before the Breath of Storm by tinnurin ft. Dis, Dwarf OC. "Behind-the-scenes" look at the Dwarves before the battle of Azanulbizar.
This Now, This Us by crownlessliestheking ft. Indis, Miriel. Indis and Miriel talk after Miriel's return to Valinor.
The Tapestry by Zdenka ft. Thedowyn, Miriel. The ghost of Miriel Serinde offers some aid. This author also has a lot of female-centric works!
Not Undevoted by SatiricalDraperies ft. Galadriel, Melian.
Winter Sea by Tallulah ft. Finduilas, OFC. Finduilas had a girlfriend in the Falas. Another author with a great selection of female-centric works.
The Hunt by @cuarthol ft. Amarie. Amarie is trans and closeted in Valinor, but Finrod understands.
Come Home to Chaos (Get a Crush on a Queen) by ncfan ft. Arwen, Firiel. When Firiel of Gondor takes refuge in Rivendell, Arwen takes an interest.
Do I Hurt to Hold? by Anonymous ft. Galadriel, Melian. A darker look at their relationship.
That Time Elanor Gardner Had A Crush On Her Employer by Anonymous ft. Arwen, Elanor.
All My Shadows Fade by amyfortuna ft. Arwen, OFC. Unsent letter from a female friend of Arwen's as her wedding to Aragorn approaches. This author is also a good one to look at for more female-centric fic!
Orlaya by yeaka ft. Arwen, Tauriel. Cute!
Of All the Stars, the Fairest by whatiwouldnotgive ft. Arwen, Eowyn.
Or They Would Go On Aching Still by Farasha ft. Arwen, Tauriel. Oh, the grief!
Berrypicking Time by swamp_diamonds ft. Finduilas, Nienor.
Things They Don't Talk About by eris_of_imladris ft. Findis. Findis and Feanor have a complicated relationship.
Easily Sever What Never was One by vauquelin ft. Haleth. If you like Halenthir at all as a ship, you'll like this.
The One With All The Birds by clothono ft. Elwing, Nerdanel. I've said it before I'll say it again--my favorite Elwing fic.
Greensleeves by bravelittlscrib ft. Nerdanel. Little scenes of Nerdanel's life and her relationships.
Emerie by the_artifice_of_eternity ft. Erendis, Ancalime. Ancalime's last visit with her mother before taking the throne.
In the Family by arriviste ft. Celebrian, Galadriel.
At the Water's Edge by crackinthecup ft. Elwing, Idril.
And that's what I've got for you right now, I hope that helps! I would also advise checking out the blogs @tolkien-heroines and @sapphictolkien both of which focus on female characters in Tolkien's work. Happy reading, anon! ♪(^∇^*)

It’s spooky season! In honor of the season, I’ve put together a rec list of some of my favorite LOTR and Silm horror fics. So curl up with a warm drink, tuck in…and maybe leave the lights on. 😉 Please leave a kudos and comment if you enjoy!
A Hidden Hunt in Hollow Dells by Zdenka (T, Petty-dwarves, 100 words):
The Dwarves of the great cities tell tales of the Elvenfolk to frighten their children, but the Petty-Dwarves know the tales are true.
A Treatise on the Origin of Dragons by Piyo13 (T, Sauron, 2.9k):
"A Treatise on the Origin of Dragons, recorded by Mairon" In which Mairon conducts a scientific experiment, and Orcs aren't the only form of corrupted Elf to have ever graced Middle Earth.
autumn fruits with me prevail by Anonymous (T, Thranduil, ~200 words):
On his head he wore a crown of berries and red leaves, for the autumn was come again.
cold be sleep under stone by Feanoriel (NR, Ar-Pharazôn, ~600 words, character death):
Under the barrow, a dead man dreams.
consuming by simaetha (T, Khamûl & Sauron, 1k):
...For one of the hungry Houseless, if it is admitted to the friendship of the Living, may seek to eject the fëa from its body; and in the contest for mastery the body may be gravely injured, even if it be not wrested from its rightful inhabitant. Or the Houseless may plead for shelter, and if it is admitted, then it will seek to enslave its host and use both his will and his body for its own purposes. It is said that Sauron did these things, and taught his followers how to achieve them. - Laws and Customs Among the Eldar
Heed No Nightly Noises by Marta (M, 4.7k, Pippin, Merry, Barrow-wights, Lalia Took, and OMC, minor character death):
"The hobbits sprang to their feet in alarm, and ran to the western rim. They found that they were upon an island in the fog. Even as they looked out in dismay towards the setting sun, it sank before their eyes into a white sea, and a cold grey shadow sprang up in the East behind. The fog rolled up to the walls and rose above them, and as it mounted it bent over their heads until it became a roof: they were shut in a hall of mist whose central pillar was the standing stone. "They felt as if a trap was closing about them; but they did not quite lose heart. " (from The Lord of the Rings, "Fog on the Barrow-Downs")
lengthen the night and shorten the day by kimaracretak (G, Lalaith, ~100 words, character death):
Death cannot take Lalaith from the river.
nights so frozen by simaetha (G, Varda, Lúthien, and OCs, ~900 words):
Varda: Star-Queen, Kindler, Sublime, Ever-white. Every angel is terrifying. - Rilke
Nine Fingers by Prackspoor (G, Frodo & Sam & Merry & Pippin, 6.3k):
On their way home from Minas Tirith, the Hobbits have a strange encounter on the outskirts of the Barrow-downs...
only the sleep eternal / in an eternal night by simaetha (T, Shelob, ~700 words):
“The world is a terrible place,” you tell the small creature, kindly.
The Snaring of Gorlim by Zdenka (T, Gorlim/Eilinel, 1.4k, character death):
Gorlim searches for Eilinel.
This Will I Do by amyfortuna (NR, Míriel Þerindë & Ungoliant, ~800 words, character death):
Míriel makes a deal with Ungoliant, and she'll see it through, no matter the sacrifice.
Too Bright for Mortal Lands by amyfortuna (T, Beren/Lúthien, Díor/Nimloth, 1k, character death):
"...The wise have said that the Silmaril hastened their end; for the flame of the beauty of Lúthien as she wore it was too bright for mortal lands."
Watcher Of/In the Woods by ncfan (T, Andreth, 2.4k):
"Outside, the world was changing." Andreth, in the time following the Dagor Bragollach.
With Both Hands by crackinthecup (T, Morgoth & Ungoliant, 1.5k):
“This is my domain, Dark One,” Ungoliant said, and her body was revealed in the light of Melkor’s gaze, dark and heavy and sagging, splayed across her webs like a hole through the fabric of the world. She dwarfed Melkor by her sheer size. “Our ties were broken long ago. You promised that I would feed to my heart’s content and beyond, yet I was hungry then, and I am hungry still. Begone! I owe you nothing.” It is said in the Silmarillion that Melkor went to Avathar to seek out Ungoliant and plot his revenge with her. This is the story of their meeting.

Was Tuor granted immortality when he went to Valinor? I thought it was just some of Luthien’s descendants who got to choose. Yet they say Tuor was counted amongst the Noldor in Valinor? Was that just a way of saying that he was so close to them that they thought of him as one of them? Not really granted immortality? Sorry for the lore type question but I’m genuinely undecided as to what happened to him in canon.
Don't apologize! this finally gave me the impetus to crack open Arda Reconstructed which I'd checked out from the library.
Anyway, my interpretation of the Silm had always been that Tuor was granted immortality. Which I didn't think made sense when I was 11 and still doesn't make sense now, but that's what it sounds like to me:
But in after days it was sung that Tuor alone of mortal Men was numbered among the elder race, and was joined with the Noldor, whom he loved; and his fate is sundered from the fate of Men.
That last part, "his fate is sundered from the fate of Men," is what makes it sound like he was given immortality, and was not merely sort of adopted into the Noldor.
Arda Reconstructed pointed me towards The Quenta II in the Shaping of Middle-Earth for where this comes from. And, yeah, it's pretty similar:
But Tuor alone of mortal Men was numbered among the elder race, and joined with the Noldoli whom he loved, and in after time dwelt still, or so it hath been said, ever upon his ship voyaging the seas of the Elven-lands, or resting a while in the harbours of the Gnomes of Tol Eressëa; and his fate is sundered from the fate of Men.
I think the gist here is the same, and the 'sundered from the fate of Men' also still implies he's become immortal.
What's different here is it seems that Tuor cannot actually set foot in Valinor, maybe not even on Tol Eressëa. He's in a fairy-tale like situation of perpetually sailing the enchanted seas of Aman.
As the end of legend, it's good. Very mythic, he's forever sailing with Idril, suitable for the forefather of Númenoreans. But considered in the light of Tolkien's more metaphysical musings, especially about the sundered fates of Elves and Men, it doesn't fit imo. I really go back and forth and whether I like for things to fit the mythic sweep or the metaphysical details, but in this case, I tend to go with Tuor dying, having never set foot on Valinor, which isn't explictly in any version (in the BoLT era story, I think he's lost forever, but that's a bit different).
Anyway, I'll leave you with a very short rec (600-ish words) that explains exactly why I, a lover of Tuor, prefer him to have died at sea:

weird and controversial ships hmmmm.... elwing/maglor, feanolo, indis/nerdanel?
[ship bingo]
Elwing/Maglor
Tumblr media
Yes. They're both hot (to me), she hates him, he would do anything (anything) to redeem himself in her eyes. He won't but she'll still fuck him. Dynamic is Maglor guilt-fucking, Elwing like, "Yeah, I deserve this. Please me, kinslayer -- also don't talk." They are both surprised to find they have amazing chemistry and it gets pretty kinky. Earendil backs it, sometimes watches, rarely partakes. Elrond and Elros think it's funny as hell.
I need them to kill each other = I need her to kill him. With hotness.
That's my take, but for another great (and darker) one, may I recommend: Elwing/f!Maglor by simaetha.
Feanor/Fingolfin
Tumblr media
@ettelene is gonna be mad at me for not saying Soulmates but I'm still in my toxic sibcest era lol. UST more than hatefuck though. I do think kissing could fix them though, and I like a Feanor Lives AU where they fuck-to-fix-it.
Some Fave Feanolos:
The Revolutionary and the Usurper by Encairion (imo a masterpiece of Feanor characterisation, complicated relationships, and super hot smut scenes)
All of them by Ettelene but A Clash of swords is so much fun and showcases her talent for group dynamics as well as smut.
hell is empty and we are here by @crownlessliestheking. More pre-slash but their dynamic here is so perfectly spiky.
Indis/Nerdanel
Tumblr media
100% sold on this by you. Prefer it to Mindis. Everyone, may I highly recommend stone toys by welcomingdisaster.

I have finally posted the start of my multichapter Maglor-returns-to-Valinor fic!
The first chapter is new, and happens in Valinor between Elrond, Galadriel, Elwing, Eärendil, and Elurín.
The second chapter is the same content as "The Castaway", which I always envisioned as part of this fic but initially wrote as a one-shot because I didn't have the first chapter together yet. So if you've already read "The Castaway," there's no new material in Chapter 2.
https://archiveofourown.org/works/41204535/chapters/103296399
Many thanks to @arrivisting, @yavieriel and @simaethae for reviewing/betaing various early drafts and portions of this fic! I don't think I'd ever have managed to get it posted without you! (Reviews were for content rather than grammar/spelling/punctuation - all the typos are my own fault.)

What would have happened if Sauron had worded his marriage proposal to Celebrimbor with less “let’s-take-over-and-rule-the-world-together” language? If he had been more vague and framed it as a project they would work on a final and more powerful ring to benefit everyone more in line like the other rings? Is it possible C could have accepted S’s proposal without knowing specifically what S wanted to create? And I noticed S didn’t reveal himself to C during the proposal. When was he planning to reveal to C that he was Morgoth’s former lieutenant? Did he figure C had to accept his past if they get married and their souls are bound together, or did he not plan to reveal it at all?
Celebrimbor would probably have said yes! Depending on how exactly Annatar presented it. Celebrimbor is ambitious, he is interested in power, he does want to effect change upon the world; it was Annatar's use of the word 'mastery' that made him question. That, and I think they'd had some conversations where it was beginning to dawn on Celebrimbor that his and Annatar's understanding of the moral and acceptable use of power wasn't the same. But there are some things that Celebrimbor ignores/overlooks/doesn’t realize if he thinks it helps his goals or suits what he wants. He knew that Annatar was sketchy when they first met and welcomed him anyways. That's partly philosophical, in that he does believe in welcoming people, but also partly because he wanted the knowledge that Annatar possessed. (And which Annatar did genuinely share - canon is explicit in multiple places that the Rings were a collaborative effort between Annatar and the Elven Ringmakers.)
(That said, I'm not sure Annatar would have even thought to have worded his proposal in a less 'let's make a powerful magical artifact that will help us take over the world' way - he genuinely thinks that he and C are on the same page about that, or at least that C's objections are to the work behind ruling an empire, not fundamental moral ones that C won't budge on. And he's half-right - Celebrimbor is interested in power, but not like that, Sauron.)
And then probably immediate marriage (sex + soulbond, Bones is set in LaCE-land), in part because Celebrimbor Does Not Want to deal with bridezilla Annatar planning a wedding, especially with various relatives still around: being tortured to death may well be preferable to listening to Annatar and Celebrimbor's mother arguing about flower arrangements. (Not that Celebrimbor doesn’t have opinions on flower arrangements! It might be a three-way fight.)
When was he planning to reveal to C that he was Morgoth’s former lieutenant?
He was always planning to reveal that! Just not right now. Sometime in the future. When it was the right time. You know, the future. (So, no.)
As for what would happen if/when C did find out that oops he married Gorthaur? He likely would at some point and probably sooner than later. Nothing good. Maybe something a bit better than canon, but maybe not. Assuming full elf/maia soulbond, I'm not sure S could kill C, but that hardly precludes a worse fate. Otoh, if Celebrimbor were involved in forging the One, it would be a very different Ring. (May I recommend the excellent a fact or a weapon by simaetha, if you haven't read it, which has Celebrimbor discovering that his husband is, in fact, Sauron.) But there's also the fun possibility of him just settling down in Ost-in-Edhil, sniping with Galadriel. Pretty convinced that that AU leads to Annatar of Eregion causing the Akallabeth all the same, because Numenor is still going to develop its eternal life fixation, and with Eregion around they might well fixate on the Elves of Middle-earth.

Sinthia Lore post!
Below the cut!
Don't worry about the pic, I was just doing some facial expression practice lol
Tumblr media
Here it is! Sinthia lore stuff/info! I'll start with physical details:
Though it may be hard to tell, her whole body is actually fuzzy. She does her best to smooth most of it down.
Out of the main cast, she is the tallest by far. Sadly most buildings around her don't account for her height, so she oftentimes has to lean down to get into places.
Since I had to redesign her legs (and she no longer has four of them) I decided to give her spider feet.
She does have venom, but it's pretty benign and not that dangerous. So her main self-defense mechanism is actually kicking. Considering her height, it's very effective.
She will have many different outfits, most of them will have some sort of spider theme.
She's based on a Simaetha Jumping spider. So, as the name implies, she's quite good at jumping and climbing.
She has gold patterns on her body, but she hides most of them under her clothes. It's part of why she always wears gloves.
Okay, time for more in depth stuff now.
Sinthia is both a witch and a seamstress. She makes mostly clothing, and likes to enchant what she makes. Sometimes she just does little spells, like clothes that change color. Sometimes she makes more substantial things like clothes that shift to fit better or change size.
She does her best to seem confident and collected, but she has her own insecurities and issues like anyone else. She feels a need for validation. She likes it when people find her impressive or beautiful, so she worries about people getting "too close". She thinks if people know her too well, they'll lose interest or think less of her.
She doesn’t really care about labels when it comes to her sexuality. She’s not straight, but she doesn’t really know/care what to call herself, she just likes who she likes.
She loves boots. Wearing them, making them, doesn't matter. She really likes thigh-high boots.
She has a lot of siblings. Nine of them, in fact. She's the 10th sibling. She wasn't given a lot of attention and love like her other siblings, which is part of why she wants so many people to pay attention to her.
She doesn’t have a good relationship with her parents.
She sometimes helps Dr Damus by making materials for him (she makes clothes on commission) like new masks, gloves, etc.
Side note:
She and Samwell know each other, they're kind of friends(?) They aren’t super close. She pulls pranks on him and he still hasn't caught on to one of them. A few years ago, Sinthia enchanted part of his farm to grow zucchini no matter what. Sounds great right? Well.. Now he can't grow anything else in that part of his farm. Only zucchini. I'll explain how he handles it in his lore post later on, this post is about Sinthia.
How about some Sinthia x Y/N stuff?
Sinthia's spider abdomen (aka: "spider butt") shakes when she really likes someone, similar to when a dog wags their tail.
If Y/N is shorter than her, (which is common) there's a high chance that she'll hold them/lift them off the ground often. Carry them around and whatnot :)
She finds couples dancing really romantic.
She will make her s/o clothes. She's a designer, she makes clothes, so yeah, she'll dress up her significant other. If she gets married, she'll make the wedding attire.
Y/N is not safe from small, mischievous pranks. Prank her back.
She'll only trust someone she's really close with to see her hidden patterns, since she's self-conscious about them. ( fun fact: her "fingerless gloves" aren't actually fingerless. She just designed them to look like fingerless gloves).
She’s practically nocturnal, not an early bird at all, so don’t try to wake her up in the morning, it’s a good way to get spider-kicked.
She doesn’t really care for flowers, she does like gems though! She can use them in her work, enchant them, or just keep them.
I’m still working out her character, like all the others, lol.

A villanelle.
O Singer of Persephone!    In the dim meadows desolate Dost thou remember Sicily?
Still through the ivy flits the bee    Where Amaryllis lies in state; O singer of Persephone!
Simaetha calls on Hecate    And hears the wild dogs at the gate; Dost thou remember Sicily?
Still by the light and laughing sea    Poor Polypheme bemoans his fate: O Singer of Persephone!
And still in boyish rivalry    Young Daphnis challenges his mate: Dost thou remember Sicily?
Slim Lacon keeps a goat for thee,    For thee the jocund shepherds wait, O Singer of Persephone! Dost thou remember Sicily?

Would you do 3, 4, and 11 for the ask game, please?
3. One of the best takes you’ve ever seen
The one right here, about how Gandalf would handle being a small-time Maia in Valinor post-canon after having grown used to smacking rulers upside the head and doing things however he pleased for so long. He's not a character I really focus on, but I'm absolutely feral for any take that has to do with the reintegration of those who lived in Middle Earth into Aman in the 4th Age, particularly the clash between the fierce independence gained through centuries of charting one's own course with the kind of baseline subordination needed to exist, successfully, in a society like Valinor's.
4. Link to a great meta you’ve read
This! One of my favorite time periods to think about is the end of the First Age, right after actual fighting of the War of Wrath concludes but before everyone parts ways, to go east further into Middle Earth or west back to Aman; the victory that is no victory, the melancholy that is far more bitter than sweet, and how everything is lying in ruins. This post captures that essence and proposes a physical landscape for post-WoW Beleriand exquisitely ♡
11. Recommend a fic with an unusual/original headcanon or characterisation that you loved
OKAY, now that AO3 is back up, I can finish answering this XD all this light, by simaetha So, it's not exactly an unusual characterization to me, as this is my default interpretation of Nan Elmoth vs. Gondolin vibes, and it's very common in fandom to talk about Gondolin in terms of sunlight/brightness/white stone/etc., but it is incredibly rare for me to see someone else treat Gondolin's quality of light as the straight up, honest horror element I consider it to be. Typically when I see it in fanfic, even when it is from Maeglin's POV, there's kind of this undercurrent that most authors can't seem to shake off, that he's fundamentally wrong for thinking of light negatively; that there is something wrong with him. It is so, so refreshing to see the abundance of light portrayed with such rawness and feverish physicality (not to mention the complete inability to comprehend/alien-ness that Idril treats him with) and it really captures what sensory overload due to light feels like, as well as how out of place you feel among others who seem to be unaffected by it. Highly recommend checking out the rest of this author's works, their writing is lovely!

Generaal Tabasco

I THOUGHT YOU WERE JOKING ABOUT THE 'ELROND CALLING ELWING A CUNT' thing. But here I am, a newbie just going through fics one after the other of Elwing being called so many names and being humiliated, while the kidnap fam is uplifted. WHAT IS GOING ON. I could smell misogynistic from a mile away holy moly. But I have read your fics (I FUCKING LOVE IT) and I want more. May I also ask for some ELWING FIC RECS.
Oh no, that was a very literal example. My heart goes out to you in this difficult time of unfortunate realizations, anon.
But I am delighted to share some quality Elwing fic! ╰(*°▽°*)╯ (And thank you, I'm glad you liked mine!)
And by their blazing signify that a great princess falls, but doth not die by TheLionInMyBed is an absolutely phenomenal look at Elwing's last moments in Sirion.
The One with All the Birds by clothono and yes I know this one comes up every time I'm asked for Elwing recs, but it really is so delightful, and all the other characters who appear in it are so well-characterized and engaging. The bizarre connection that Elwing and Nerdanel share, both waiting for their children to return, is so interesting!
Elwing's Strategy by lifeisyetfair is another examination of why Elwing chose as she did in Sirion. Both Elwing and Maedhros are characterized so well, it's delicious.
The Carriage Held but Just Ourselves by StarSpray is an exploration of the line of Melian and Thingol's relationship with death. The whole fic is fantastic, but chapter 3 specifically deals with Elwing.
Elvenkings by am_fae is such a beautiful and sad look at the Doriathrim after the fall of the kingdom. It focuses on several characters, but Elwing is one of them and it handles her so well!
A Fish Hook, an Open Eye by simaetha is a tasty, dark Elwing/f!Maglor where things don't go quite according to plan when Maglor comes to negotiate with Elwing in Sirion.
Après Moi, le Déluge by HerenorThereNearnorFar is such a heartbreaking and tender look at Elwing's relationship with her children.
The Longed For That Cometh Beyond Hope by am_fae does an excellent job capturing the energy of the moments just after Earendil and Elwing secure the Valar's aid against Morgoth.
Was Dancing There by StarSpray is a quick, sweet look at Elrond's childhood with Elwing in Sirion and what remains of the heritage of the Doriathrim.
A Fiend in Feline Shape by Aipilosse deals with the house of Dior and Nimloth generally; Elwing is not the focus, but she is in it, and it's a delightful fic.
Less Flesh than Stone by crackinthecup is the confrontation in Aman that Elwing deserves with Maedhros.
Ebb and Flow by swanmaiden. Elwing is feeling the strain of her pregnancy and Earendil is so gallant as to help her out how he can. I really love how this fic shows the support these two had from their community in Sirion.
Joy is a Bird, a Fragile Thing by estuarie is a deeply touching reunion between Elwing and Elrond in Valinor TT_TT
Friendship and Stern Demand by polutropos is a fantastic look at the correspondence between Elwing and Maedhros prior to the Third Kinslaying.
From the Ones Who Came Before by Kirta is a great look at Elwing and Earendil's life growing up in the Havens. I am always a fan of childhood friends-to-lovers Starwing.
How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful by swanmaids is a great series of scenes of Earendil and Elwing and their life in Sirion, and dealing with the trauma of their childhood.
A Light Burns in the Forest by tinnurin is about how Elwing escaped Menegroth during the Second Kinslaying with Oropher and Thranduil. Really captures how terrifying and chaotic the assault on Doriath would have been.
We Build Castles with Our Fears and Sleep in Them Like Kings and Queens by TheLionInMyBed is more about Idril, but it does also take a look at Idril's relationship with Elwing.
So Summer Comes by potatoesanddreams does a beautiful job of exploring how Elwing's trauma and grief sometimes make it hard for her to be present for her kids while remaining sympathetic.
A Loss of Something I Ever Felt by Arriviste is a fic about Finarfin, but section 4 has his meeting Elwing and Earendil, and it is overall such a beautiful and well-written fic.
At the Water's Edge by crackinthecup takes a look at Elwing's relationship with Idril and what they share in terms of traumatic experiences.
Coastin' by swanmaiden. Heather handles these characters with such love and it really shows! Earendil is always looking to please his wife ;D
Beacon by polutropos has that yummy Starwing reunion smut after Earendil returns to port. A really fun married couple dynamic here!
For Elwing positivity in general I have to @swanmaids because she is the #1 Elwing stan that I know of, so if you want a blog to follow which is 100% pro-Elwing, there she is!

Text
A Villanelle
By Oscar Wilde
O singer of Persephone!
In the dim meadows desolate
Dost thou remember Sicily?
Still through the ivy flits the bee
Where Amaryllis lies in state;
O Singer of Persephone!
Simaetha calls on Hecate
And hears the wild dogs at the gate;
Dost thou remember Sicily?
Still by the light and laughing sea
Poor Polypheme bemoans his fate;
O Singer of Persephone!
And still in boyish rivalry
Young Daphnis challenges his mate;
Dost thou remember Sicily?
Slim Lacon keeps a goat for thee,
For thee the jocund shepherds wait;
O Singer of Persephone!
Dost thou remember Sicily?
