Request: So there was no actual request, I just knew this would cheer up my closest friend.

He’s never affectionate publicly. Behind closed doors, though- well maybe he’s not your stereotypical lovey-dovey type, but hey-ho, he shows it in his own little way. A few hugs, but mostly through making you things. Music boxes, little figures and robots that wind up, you name it, he’ll try and make it. 

B - Best Friend (What would they be like as a best friend? Where does the friendship start?)

He’s not a friendly man, typically. He’s cold, and driven only by his motives. It takes a long time for him to warm up to you, but when he eventually does he is always by your side, whenever you should need him. Be it for violence, or for an ear to pour your thoughts into- even though half the time you swear he’s not listening completely. 

C - Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)

Heisenberg likes warm cuddles above all others. The kind where he can pull you close and hold you there for a while- he likes feeling you against his chest. It’s comforting to him, after years of no affection and a torturous living experience. 

D - Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking, cleaning, ect?)

Karl is not particularly skilled in any domestic skill. He’s very mediocre at cooking, and he can’t clean to save his life- his factory is littered with dust and other probably very harmful particles. He isn’t very good in a domestic environment at all, really. 

E - Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)

Blunter than a broken pencil I’m afraid. He’s never had to hide something from you in the past, so why should this be any different? He would not want to beat around the bush here, he’d annoy himself with pleasantries and euphemisms. 

F - Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? Do they wanna get married?)

He’s perfectly fine staying as partners, without marriage looming over the pair of you. Quite frankly, he doesn’t think it’s worth it.  “A piece of damn paper to show someone your fucking devotion? Bullshit.” 

G - Gentle (How gentle are they both physically and emotionally?)

Unless you’re shaking like a leaf or have specifically asked him to be gentle with or around you, he’s not going to be. He’ll treat you much how he treats most others- with a little bit of affection for zest and flavour every now and then. 

H - Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it, and what are they like?)

While he likes cuddles, he isn’t a huge fan of hugs. He thinks they’re too short to show any real affection, and often get in the way of whatever task the recipient is trying to perform.  

I - I Love You (How fast do they say the “love” word?)

S l o w l y. This man has gone through some stuff, and doesn’t want to get attached to people despite falling for you. Give him a chance. 

J - Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What are they like when jealous?)

Okay so he may be “non-committal” in a loose sense of the term, but this man is one jealous motherfucker. And he gets angry. I’m talking  punching the wall, lashing out and breaking shit kind of angry. It’s mostly because of a nagging fear that not only will he lose you to someone you think is better or less monstrous than he is, but also in part due to a feeling that because of what he was forced to become, he isn’t good enough to keep you for himself. 

K - Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)

He kisses you on your hands or neck mostly. Those are his favourite places to kiss you. He occasionally kisses you on the inside of your wrist. If you have any scars as well, he’ll kiss them. 

L - Little Ones (How are they around kids?)

It depends. Sometimes he’s the perfect uncle figure, others he’s a whirlwind of rage. If you’re taking him to see some children for a prolonged amount of time, please check how he’s acting and feeling on the day so there isn’t some sort of horrific accident. 

M - Morning (What are mornings like with them?)

There’s nothing special about them, he’s usually up long before you are. He doesn’t leave anything like a hot beverage behind, unless it’s a special occasion that he’s remembered- like a birthday or anniversary. 

N - Nights (How are nights spent with them?)

He often tells you to go to bed before him, as he’s usually working on something, and would rather not have to worry about you being down in his factory and workshop. 

O - Open (When do they open up about themselves?)

When he’s extremely angry. He gets riled up, then will start to spill facts and secrets while hardly even realising it. 

P - Patience (How easily angered are they?)

He has a very short fuse and a violent temper, to say the least. There’s a reason the man swears so much. Though he will often apologise if he’s scared you after an outburst. 

Q - Quizzes (How much do they remember about you?)

He remembers the basic things at the very least- Your name, your habits on eating and drinking, what you do to amuse yourself. He’s quite observant, actually. 

R - Remember (Favorite memory with you?)

He made you a small music box once. The past part of his day, or his entire week, was seeing your smile as you opened it and listened to it for the first time. It was the widest he’d ever seen you smile, and he loved the feeling it gave him. 

S - Security (How protective are they?)

Very. One particular other Lord- “Lady Super-Sized Bitch,” as Heisenberg has dubbed her- is very interested in your presence, and Heisenberg has made it very much his business to keep you practically under lock and key to keep you safe. And when Ethan Winters comes around? Ooh, boy. You ain’t leaving his sight.

He does try- through making trinkets and gadgets to both help you and show his affection. Sometimes it may not always seem that way though, with his outbursts and his tantrums.

He smokes. You tried to get him to quit once, then stopped when you realised it made him more irritable. 

V - Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)

He’s not that concerned. If he’s still kicking... Well that’s all that matters to him. 

W - Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)

He’d feel that something’s wrong, something’s not right- a cog missing from a machine, in a sense. And he hates that feeling.

This man would die for some ice-cream. You bring him a tub of the stuff- BAM, instant good mood for the next like two days.

Bokuto is already a rollercoaster of emotions so he honestly has no problem showing how he feels around you. Whether he’s happy, sad, or angry it’s very easy to tell when it comes to Bokuto.

Bokuto would totally want a family, but it’s you who wants to wait. Considering he’s already a big man-child, you would want to wait for Bokuto to become more responsible before having children. And of course, you both would wait until you lived on your own before starting a family.

G = Gifts (how do they feel about gift giving? What are their habits when it comes to this?)

Bokuto has a tendency to take the exchanging of gifts as seriously as any volleyball match. Don’t get me wrong, he really does love it when you give him a gift. But, a part of him feels like he needs to top the gift you gave him by giving you something even better. Say for instance... you give him a small owl plushie, and the next day he gives you a near full-sized teddy bear.

H = Holding Hands (when/how do they hold hands?)

Bokuto won’t necessarily hold your hand, but he will wrap his arm around your shoulders or your waist. It’s awkward while you’re trying to walk, but it’s also charming and endearing in a way.

I = Injury (how would they act if you got hurt?)

This boy goes into complete panic mode. Once, you attended one of his practice matches and the ball ended up ricocheting and hitting you square on the forehead. He started panicking and told Akaashi to take over for him while he carried you to the infirmary in order to get an ice pack for the newly formed bruise on your head.

J = Jokes (do they like to joke around with or prank you? how?)

Like I said before, Bokuto is a giant man-child. So, obviously he like to joke around with you a lot. However, when it comes to pranks Bokuto would rather play pranks with you rather than on you. Overall, his jokes and pranks are just like him. Big and full of chaotic energy.

K = Kisses (how do they like to kiss you?)

Bokuto will mostly give you little pecks on the lips, cheek, or most often, all over your face. However, he will give you more passionate and intense kisses if he’s either excited or jealous.

L = Love (how do they show you that they love you?)

Show you... Hell, this guy will announce his love for you to the entire world. For instance, when you attended one of his tournament matches and he saw you in the stands, the biggest grin stretched across his face and he pointed at you and shouted loud enough for almost everyone in the gym to hear “Hey! That’s my s/o, y/n! Hey, hey, hey y/n! Wish me luck! Love you baby!”

M = Memory (favorite memory together?)

Without question, it would have to be the time you got a pretty nasty cold and Bokuto actually took the time to come over to your place in order to cheer you up and hopefully help you recover a little. He was a bit too loud for your liking and he somehow managed to burn the chicken noodle soup (mainly the chicken part), but you appreciated the thought and it showed that despite his childish nature, he really does have a somewhat responsible side. Key word being somewhat.

N = Nightmare (what is their worst fear?)

He worries that one day you’ll finally have enough of his antics and leave him for one of his more mature teammates (namely Akaashi).

O = Oddity (what is one quirk they have?)

True to his appearance, Bokuto is a major night owl. He is able to stay up for hours on nothing more that pure adrenaline and energy. It takes almost everything in your power to make sure that his gets the appropriate amount of sleep each night.

P = Pet Names (what do they like to call you?)

Baby, babe, nugget, and cutie.

Q = Quality Time (how do they like to spend time with you?)

Teaching you everything he knows about volleyball of course! Outside the court, however, you both would binge tv shows that you both enjoyed or have a movie marathon together until you were board or until one of you fell asleep.

R = Rhythm (what song reminds you of them?)

Smile by Avril Lavigne. It reminds you of how this goofball always finds a way to make you smile even in your darkest moments.

S = Secrets (how open are they with you?)

There are pretty much no secrets between the two of you. Bokuto is the type of guy that lets you know what is on his mind without even asking. 

T = Time (how long did it take for you two to get together?)

Around 3-4 months. Let’s face it, Bokuto can be a bit oblivious at times. But when he caught feelings for you, he caught it hard. You were attending one of his practice matches and every so often you would catch him glancing in your direction. When his team was finished practicing for the day, he came over to you and practically shouted at you “Hey, hey, hey y/n! I need to tell you that I really like you! So do you want to go out this Saturday? Anyplace you want to go is fine by me!”

U = Upset (how do they act when you’re upset?)

At first Bokuto will try to make you laugh. If he fails after multiple attempts, he would actually get serious and pull you into a hug while whispering comforting words into your ear and rubbing your back or stroking your hair.

V = Vaunt (what are they proud of? Do they like to show you off?)

Bokuto is proud of well... you, of course! And oh boy! Does this guy like to show you off! As soon as the two of you became an official couple, he didn’t hesitate when it came to showing you off to his team. “Hey, hey, hey everybody! This is y/n! They’re my s/o! No! Piggyback rides. Just, all of the piggybacks. Whether or not you ask for it, he will lift you onto his back and carry you from one place to the next. He’ll even do this in school when going from class to class, ignoring all of the strange looks and confused glances that are sent his way.

X = X-ray (how well are they able to read you?)

Like I said, Bokuto can be very oblivious at times. However, he can be surprisingly keen when it comes to you and your emotions. He can pick up pretty quickly when your sad or angry. However, it does take him a while when it comes to more complex emotions like jealousy.

Y = Yes (how would they propose to you?)

With Bokuto, it’s go big or go home. When he proposed to you he wanted to do it in a big way. It happened while you were at one of his national games. After his team won the match, he suddenly pointed to the cheering section on the stands opposite to yours. At the signal they chanted “Y/N! Marriage? Y/N! Marriage?” Despite the strange method, you knew exactly what the message was. You ran over to him and accepted his proposal while hugging him tightly as soon as you met him back in the main lobby.

Z = Zebra (what kind of pet would they get?)

A dog. Specifically, one that’s like him. Big and full of energy. So probably a labrador or a husky.

My Top Korean Resources [2020 edition]

I have been discussing resources with a few people on private message and have been thinking a bit about what resources were the best on my journey.... so here’s my final (maybe) compilation of resources for the year that will hopefully be helpful for anyone who is looking at resources between the beginners and upper intermediate levels.

NB. This list is based off materials I have used in the past and is not an exhaustive list of ALL the resources I have used - it is just a selection of some of my favourite. There are so many Korean resources out there so there might be some that work more for you that I haven’t even looked at.

Course Texts

In my opinion, the perfect course text isn’t going to teach you everything you need to know, but a good course text will at least give you a clear framework to chunk up and guide your studies. I have used a few but the most user friendly one is definitely:

Talk To Me In Korean - they set things out clearly so nothing feels overwhelming and provide a sensible framework to follow for self-study. Other course books tend to be better suited for in-class settings and not great for self-study.

Grammar

The course texts will teach you about grammar but I think they don’t teach you how the grammar structures are related to each other. So I think it is key to look at one or more of these books:

Korean Grammar In Use: Beginners

Korean Grammar In Use: Intermediate

The above series is incredible and a serious MUST for all Korean learners. They clearly and concisely set out the grammar points and show how they are all related to each other. There is an Advanced book as well which I have yet to use and will teach quite complex structures.

Basic Korean: A Grammar and Workbook (I have linked the forthcoming version being released in Dec 2020!)

Intermediate Korean: A Grammar and Workbook

The above Routledge series is great for its workbook feature. The layout is a little academic so it’s not super appealing but the way they explain grammar is clear and relatively detailed. The number of examples included in the workbook is fantastic, providing a lot of opportunity to practice. I haven’t used the Basic book but if it is anything like the Intermediate, it will be a winner.

Vocabulary

The part that people often miss out when learning Korean is vocabulary, because it can be so easy to just follow course texts and grammar books, but those will never teach enough words. To learn more vocab, it is really important to read around. There are so many Korean language books that you can pick up, but here are some books and resources that are catered specifically for language learners that I have loved:

Korean Culture in 100 Keywords - they give a paragraph on different cultural aspects of Korea in both Korean and English and highlight all the new vocabulary for you. The texts are graded from easy to more difficult.

News in Korean - lots of short news stories with translations in English and comprehension questions. Might be targeted more at intermediate learners

Mind Map TOPIK VOCA 2300 - this book sorts vocabulary into categories and shows them as mindmaps. It also gives readers sentences in context and has mini quizzes, HOWEVER it is written in 98% Korean so this is a book that is definitely more pitched at upper intermediate levels and above and teaches vocabulary that is a little less common 

Anki - my most used resource. Everyone has their own favourite for flashcards and this is mine. Anki do spaced repetition meaning that it will constantly test your knowledge on vocabulary, spacing the quizzes/tests depending on how difficult you find the word. It is more efficient than other flashcard platforms, but it is a little tricky to get started and create your own cards. If you want to download pre-made decks, you can, but this works best when you add the words you have learned yourself so that you get decks that are full of vocab that is relevant for you

Beelinguapp - This is an app that has some story books written in both Korean and English. It also has an audio function so you can listen to someone reading the stories in Korean. This is neat for pronunciation and listening, and also identifying new words, however the range of stories are limited.

Gloss - Gloss have a set of online lessons pitched at different levels which takes you through articles or texts (or audio and video), then asks a lot of comprehension questions. It follows a lesson format so it is far more engaging than your regular book, however it is a little on the difficult side.

[EXTRA] Your First Hanja Guide - you might not want to learn vocabulary this way and it is absolutely NOT an essential, but for me it is helpful to visualise the Hanja character when seeing the relationship between words, so if you like learning words like that, then this is the book for you

Listening / Watching

Like with reading, there are multiple resources that you can use to listen to native Korean, but here are some that are specifically targeted at learners

여보세요 - this app/website has a few short video clips and goes through slowly to examine the meaning and new words, then has a number of test quizzes through multiple choice or through speaking (via microphone). There are different clips graded by levels and the app tracks your progress and gives progress reports.

Real Life Korean Conversations: Beginners / Intermediate - this IS a book, but it is best used in conjunction with the audio files. The book gives the script, as well as the vocabulary, and also looks at key grammar points and structures used in the conversations

Speaking

There aren’t many resources that I find great for self-studying speaking - generally you need someone else to do that with you, but here is one that I thought was quite neat:

Teuida - I just did a very quick run through this app as it is definitely pitched at beginners, but I thought that it was a smart way of learning some basic conversational Korean. It teaches you phrases and you have to repeat them back through the microphone feedback function. Then to test your retention, they take you through a mock situation and you have to speak your answers - there is quite a strong focus on getting pronunciation correct. My biggest downsides of this app are that the free sections are really limited, AND they seem to have geared the lessons towards the idea of dating, which I just find so awkward and embarrassing hahaha!

Writing

I’m in the market to buy some writing books and have my eye on some but am waiting until I have the time to work on them, but this book is quite neat for learning different sentence structures and how to construct meaningful answers:

Korean Q&A Sentence Patterns - this book poses a question and looks at different ways of answering it. It also shows variations of the question, then examines form. It gives an example long answer and prompts you to think about how to construct your own response using the grammar and vocabulary given

So!  My language ciphers are all English-based, because that’s my native language, and are usually constructed based on the placement of keyboard letters.  (I say usually, because there’s at least two exceptions.)

That said: Hello and Welcome to a Quick Guide to the DL Languages!

Labrynnian - Use the phonetic alphabet, but backwards.  Insert an ā after letters a-e, ē for f-j, ī for k-o, ō for p-t, and ū for u-z.  In case of excessive vowels, insert a ł. There is a specific verb-possessive relationship, however, where things like 'My name is Changeling' becomes 'Name-my is Changeling'

Holodese - Move one key to the right.  If at any point it seems like you'd trip over your tongue trying to pronounce the result, insert an apostrophe to give your mouth a breather.  Only one apostrophe per word since more than that makes it hard to read, for all other necessary mouth-break moments use an ᾳ as a filler vowel.  In case of excessive vowels, use an ӽ.  Contractions and possessives are indicated with a hyphen in place of the English apostrophe.

Subrosian - Move one key to the right, except in the case of vowels.  All vowels stay the same.  The apostrophe and hyphen rules from Holodese also apply here, though much less frequently - same with the filler consonant and vowel if necessary.  Subrosian is intended as a subset of Holodese, hence the similarities.

Koholish - Move one key to the left.  Insert an 'e' between any letters that do not make phonetic sense.  In the case of an 'r' transposing into an 'e', that 'e' becomes an ë in order to differentiate.  There are no contractions in this one, so words like don't become do not, except that it's actually 'donot'.  Possessives are in progress.

Divinet - Take your sentence, remove all the consonants.  You are left with the vowels.  Fill in the former consonants with either 'w' or 'y', depending on whether or not it was a hard or a soft sound. Hard Sounds: B, C, D, K, L, M, N, P, Q, T, V, X.   Soft Sounds: F, G, H, J, R, S, Z, TH, SH.  For any 'y' that is pre-existing, use a ẏ to differentiate; same for 'w' with ẇ.  Filler vowel is æ, filler consonant is ḣ.

Darkling - Take your words and rearrange them by their alphabetical pronunciation.  Apply the Koholish Rule of playing nice with phonetics, but add õ instead.  In the event of excessive vowels, insert an ñ to make them play nice.  

Archaic - Might be Ancient Hylian, haven't decided yet.  Take the alphabet and numerize it, then apply those numbers to the keyboard.  1 is Q, 2 is W, 3 is E, etc.  Then take your word, take the alphabet number of those letters, and apply those numbers to the above-established keyboard pattern.  Add û between anything that doesn't make phonetic sense (The Koholish Rule)

Not all of these have been used in DL yet, for various reasons, but I’m sure you recognize the ones which have.  The only languages that I don’t have ciphers for yet are Firetongue, which thus far consists of growling noises and is understandably hard to craft for, and Jabber (the Picori language) which has an in-game cipher of sorts that I’ve yet to crack completely.

Arkham Scarecrow SFW Alphabet

im really enjoying writing arkham scarecrow. maybe ill do something similar to my random riddler headcanons posts with some scarecrows

 A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)

Uhhh, the short answer is no. Jonathan is almost wholly incapable of what most people would term “affection”. His idea of loving is not using you for his experiments, only giving you small doses to build up your immunity( not that that will stop him from enjoying watching you panic). Jonathan leans heavily on gifts and words of affirmation as his language of love ( assuming he can even feel that emotion). He calls you  “my dear”  and “my darling” or once “my pumpkin” if he had too much to drink. 

B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)

Jonathan would make a good friend if he could ever be wrangled into admitting it. He’s a complete bastard, but he's a loyal bastard. He always goes above and beyond for his friends but it's always in a “aw shit. My favorite idiot needs help AGAIN?!” begrudging , kind of way. You probably met in university/college and if you've stuck with him this long he’d be hard to get rid of.

C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)

He never asks for cuddles and is pretty touch adversed as a rule. Sometimes though, He simply plonks himself in your space and expects you to know what he wants. Usually it's gentle backrubs/strokes like you would with a child. Sometimes he just wants your warmth to sooth his aching body. He’s heavier than he was in Arkham asylum but still very underweight so you shouldn't have too much trouble moving him into a comfortable position.

D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)

Absolutely not. I'm not convinced this man owns more than his books and the burlap sack on his back ,never mind a home. He has plans to take the cloudburst on tour, to go cross country and then across the world spreading fear. That would be a little difficult if he had gotham mortgage sending him nasty emails every other day about missed payments. While he can cook and clean, I doubt you'd want to eat anything he made. Ignoring his filthy hands, he's probably laced it with fear toxin or a lethal amount of hot sauce.

His homemade cleaning chemicals are pretty stellar mind you. They can get blood, piss or tears out of anything. 

E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)

Scarecrow really is a ride or die kinda guy. If you've wormed your way into his life then he’s going to do literally everything and anything to keep you in it. He’s not above making you dependent on him for safety just to keep you around longer. He’s not a total monster to the people he cares about mind you. If you really didn't want to be with him, he’d let you go….eventually.

I'm not sure he fully understands the concept of a “breakup”on his end. He gets that you don't see eachother anymore but I don't think he quite grasps that it's not because one party is dead. There's a 99% chance he’ll use you for his fear toxin experiments as a way of kicking you to the kerb. If you wake up in a ditch with a text that says “we’re through” you should consider yourself lucky. 

F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)

I canon arkham scarecrow as having been engaged at one point in his life, possibly around the time of origins. I can imagine his partner gave him a “me or the fear toxin” ultimatum which has led to the man you know now. Despite how he looks, how he speaks and acts, he’s still open to the idea of a partner. He’s a loyal man who can't stand backstabbers, he’d appreciate someone like a spouse/husband/wife to have his back. If he decided he wanted to get married he’d propose almost immediately. It might be more of a business or thesis type proposal with lots of talking rather than flowers and wine and you're likely to be married as soon as you said yes.

G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)

He’s gentle, in a creepy way unsurprisingly. He was a little stronger than the average man before the incident with croc, all that cardio and fighting with batman made him a skinny legend amongst the rogues for how well he could fight. Now? He couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag. Mostly he's calm and soft, especially when you wouldn't expect him to be.  He can still be an emotionally manipulative person but chances are good you're smart enough to see right through him. Calling him on his bs is actually a good way to endear yourself to him. He likes a challenge and he loves it when people think they can outsmart him.

H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)

Hmm. yes and no. Scarecrow is severely touch adversed, but...It's not like with Riddler; Edward is on the autism spectrum and genuinely gets overstimulated by a lot of physical contact, he doesn't usually enjoy it unless under specific circumstances. Scarecrow WANTS to be hugged and held on occasion, but the mere thought of someone in his personal bubble sends his hackles up. 

When he first woke up after the asylum, he clung to you like a lampent. Scarecrow gives and recieves hugs like someone who needs them to breath.Your warmth soothes the aching pain when even drugs couldn't . By the time of Arkham Knight he’s grown cold and distant. His hugs are few and far between and unusually half hearted even when he initiates them. Maybe he’s just preoccupied with batman.

I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)

I doubt he’d ever say the words ``i love you” but he’s absolutely going to quote love poetry at you, recite lines from his favorite literature  “shall i compare you to a summer's day” and all that. That’s far better than a simple “i love you” right?

J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)

Jonathan is sort of one note when it comes to expressing frustration. Coffee machine not working? Melt it down into fear toxin vials. Line at the grocery store? Gas everyone out of his way. He doesnt get mad, he gets even. He’s not a super jealous person, he’s probably the most secure in himself out of all the rogues in Gotham bar Selina and ivy. But when something does hit his jealousy bone just right? LORD HE IS TERRIBLE. 

Unless you were the instigator, you are 100% safe but the poor soul who made the mistake of flirting with you will never see the light of day again.

K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)

He can't really kiss to be honest. He lacks a lot of lip tissue and tongue dexterity for deep smooching. He’s quite happy to give you little pecks on the cheek but anywhere else will get sloppy and he's not a fan of that. Jonathan has actually started to bump you with his head like a cat in lieu of kisses. Rare as it is, when he wants kisses he has a tendency to nuzzle into the crook of your neck or rest his head on your shoulder. He likes to be kissed on the cheek , forehead and top of his head. Most other places are covered in scars and lack the sensitivity to enjoy it.

L = Little ones (How are they around children?)

He likes to scare kids. It's not as malicious as it is with adults, he just likes to yell boo at them, smiling as they scream and giggle and run away. It's probably the most innocent he’ll act around other people. He still doesnt like them per say but he’ll tolerate them in small doses. 

M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)

Scarecrow , like most rogues, is not a morning person. He doesn't sleep well and he is hella grumpy when he first wakes up. Expect to watch him shuffle around his hideout like a zombie, still wearing a quilt and his dressing gown as he complains about everything from the weather to the loud creaking of the floorboards. You should present him with food and coffee and then retreat to a safe distance until he’s fully awake, otherwise he’s liable to turn on his grumpy old man routine on you. If he's feeling particularly sore or needy, he’ll ask you to help change his bandages and dressings .

N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)

It really depends on what he feels like in the moment. Sometimes he’ll leave you at home while he goes out to cause general mischief, sometimes he’ll bring you along as a look out. Sometimes it's a low-key night at the hideout reading and sometimes it's a caffeine fueled frenzie of experimentation and lab work with you as his trusty lab assistant.  He doesn't sleep well at night, the aches keep him up. If he were ever to actually go to bed he might find that you make a great pillow.

O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)

As much as he resents people having the upperhand with information, it's hard not for people to see his past. His scars are so easily visible, inside and out. He doesn't talk about his past unless prompted. But if you do he’ll quite happily answer all your questions; he’s not afraid of discussing it. 

P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)

Jonathan is a very patient man, not just when it comes to revenge.It takes quite a lot to make him fly off the handle and he cools off again quickly. That's not to say he doesn't hold a grudge like he’s being paid for it, only that it's more of a simmering anger rather than a boiling one.

Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)

He remembers most things about you, he has an excellent memory. But that being said he never lets on that he knows these things. He likes to hear you talk about the things that interest you, even if you've told him about it before. Watching you wax lyrical about your chosen subject makes him feel close to you. 

R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)

I don't know if it's a favorite or even a positive memory but when he first woke up from surgery after croc you were lying beside him. He was understandably confused, maybe even afraid, but seeing you there brought him great comfort. He didn't know what was happening because of all the meds, but as long as you were with him he was confident things would work out for him.

S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)

He means well, you should always keep that in mind  before you snap at him. He brought you to the arkham knights HQ to protect you from his plans, he’s given you micro doses of fear toxin to build your resistance and by the time of arkham knight you can hardly move for the amount of guards he has following you around. He’s overbearing bordering on controlling but I think it's because he simply can't admit the thought of losing you scares him, even just a little. You aren't a rogue, you don't know Batman like they do. He just needs to keep you safe from batman, from the police and from the ugly world outside.

Given how weak he’s been viewed practically all his life, I believe he’d resent the accusation he needed protecting. deep in his mind he knows no one man is an island. He appreciates little helps even if he won't say it. He doesn't need protection per say but If nothing else, after being injected with his new toxin, he's going to need someone who’s corpus mentis in his corner for court and medical proceedings.  

T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)

His idea of a perfect date is you two working on your respective projects in comfortable silence, maybe a trip to the museum if he feels like the exercise. Obviously that suits some people down to the ground, myself included, but he gets that it's not for everyone. He’s probably ok with you planning the activities provided you warn him beforehand. 

Given everything he’s been planning for batman, things like important dates and even everyday tasks have a tendency to get lost in the fray. He's not doing it on purpose, He’s glad to celebrate these things with you if you remind him, He's just got his priorities in a funny order.

U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)

He shuffles his feet when he walks and is one of those people who always has conversations in doorways. You can never be sure he isn't aware of these habits and is doing them on purpose. He also used to smoke quite heavily but has since given it up due to his throat and lung issues.

V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)

It's sort of a mixed bag with him. On the one hand he knows he’s ugly, that's the point. You're MEANT to be scared looking at him, he’s leaning into it. But on the other hand his “look” is a carefully maintained visage; if it slips it might lose the intended effect. He might not be as scary to look at or worse, people might look at him in pity. It's not ordinary vanity or narcissism but yes, he is concerned with maintaining the way he looks 

W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)

The concept of feeling whole is somewhat lost on him; He’s clearly missing a few screws even in his most lucid moments. That said even in the depths of madness brought on by his toxin, he still notices your absence. Still incredibly distressed In his cell in blackgate, he can often be heard crying out to you for comfort  but is lacking the wherewithal to understand why you're not there. 

X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)

Given that he has pretty extensive facial injuries, eating is pretty difficult for him. He used to really enjoy bagels and cubanos from gothams many deli’s. His favorite was a kosher deli in The Cauldron, before Joker ruined it. They’ve since rebuilt and while he can't eat many solids anymore , he still enjoys their matzo soup and smoothies. 

Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?)

Like most of the rogues, he absolutely can't stand bullies.He also can't stand physically aggressive people; if you're going to even TRY and intimidate him maybe you could use your words like someone with more than 2 brain cells to rub together, rare as that is in gotham. Back when he was a psychiatrist he hated people who were chronically late. Not his patients, most of the time it wasn't their fault  due to executive dysfunction or traffic, but people who kept HIM back and made HIM late were the bane of his existence. 

Z = Zzz (What are their sleep habits?)

Crane is a back sleeper who snores because of his damaged septum.He knows he makes a noise akin to a flip flop in a lawn mower but there is literally nothing he can do about it besides sleep on his stomach. He squirms around a lot in his sleep so even if he starts on his stomach, he’ll be on his back snoring like a dead horse in no time. The only thing that could keep him frontwise is if he were to sleep on you and have you hold him in place.

Shameless Media: A Start-up's Guide To Digital Stakeholder Engagement

OVERVIEW

Today’s businesses exist in a world where everything is rapidly changing. How organisations communicate with stakeholders, and vice versa, have been transformed by the digital age.

Not only are stakeholders powerful and tech-savvy, thanks to digital media, they now also have direct contact with companies and organisations 24/7 (Ozer 2020).

Companies therefore are much more accountable for their conduct and value (Tench & Yeomans 2017). This can either play to their advantage, or hinder it in a critical way.

As such, businesses need to foster relationships with stakeholders by leveraging the power of digital media. The goal is to have a community of people who support the organisation, who resonates with the brand’s value and message.

An example of modern organisations championing this is Shameless Media. Utilising digital media, Shameless engages with their stakeholders through strategic branding and content marketing.

How can we capture people’s hearts and minds in an attention economy? Let’s learn from this millennial start-up.

CASE STUDY: SHAMELESS MEDIA

Profile

Shameless Media (SM) is a millennial gen Z’s destination for all things digital content. Operated in Melbourne by a team of five young women, the company was founded in 2019 by writers Zara McDonald and Michelle Andrews.

Although relatively young, the podcast venture has accumulated a consumer base of over 20 million listeners, plus a growing community of 220,000+ followers across Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. SM also recently created a brand-new agency for content creators and influencers, The Sana Agency.

Stakeholders

Since its inception, the podcast has not had a single episode that has not been sponsored (Forbes 2021). More notably, Shameless listenership is overwhelmingly 94.7% women in their 20s (Gillezeau 2021).

SM's key stakeholder groups thus include:

1. Consumers: audiences, readers, listeners; and

2. Sponsors: collaborators, business partners.

1. Podcast

At first glance: Eye-catching cover. Good tag line (“The pop culture podcast for smart people who love dumb stuff”). Almost always seen in the Top Charts.

My thoughts: I was surprised to discover how new the podcast is. Its popularity, large growing number of listeners and content quality make Shameless seem a lot more established.

Open and honest, the hosts are not afraid to let audience knows where they stand on critical issues (feminism, politics, climate change etc.). New episodes are regularly scheduled which is good for audience retention.

As a consumer, I am drawn to the show/company for their seeming authenticity and relatability. Not to mention the well-balanced research that allows audience to form their own opinions without being spoon-fed. 10/10 recommend.

2. Website

At first glance: Layout is easy to look at. Visually appealing. All relevant info seems to be there.

My thoughts: Nice design, but not as much interactivity as I would have liked. When I tried looking for more information on the founders and organisation, something like an About Us section for example, there was none. Neither was there any resource or material on the business side of things (annual reports or data analytics or anything of the sorts).

One may excuse this considering the age of the organisation. However, I believe SM might benefit from a website update or revamp. It will certainly be helpful for those like me who are curious, who do research on the firm and would therefore like more access to information.

3. Instagram

At first glance: Quite large following. Relatively high audience engagement. Content layout not my personal taste, but appealing overall.

My thoughts: Shameless has great social media presence, especially on Instagram. The company made good efforts in interacting with followers. There are the ‘Your say Fridays’, polls and Q&A every other day on Stories. Users regularly comment on posts (memes, podcast updates & announcement), and many get replies from admin.

Overall, Shameless is doing very well with social media engagement and audience interactions.

4. Facebook

At first glance: Not much to see/do as this is a private group. Nice cover image though.

My thoughts: Large community of readers of nearly 34,000 members. The group has been active since 2019. While discussion threads cannot be publicly viewed, those interested in the content can find related episodes on the Shameless podcast.

Over on Instagram, there are links in bio to the book-selling site for each month’s pick. Makes me wonder whether or not these are affiliate links.

5. LinkedIn

At first glance: Small-to-medium sized following. Appealing visuals, though not too much information.

My thoughts: I have seen the Shameless LinkedIn profile before, but has only started following them recently. The account is not too active, the latest post was from a few months ago. Perhaps this is because the content that circulates on LinkedIn often revolves around business culture, not the usual focus by SM. Most of the posts thus far are general announcement and job openings.

In the future, SM might be benefit from a more active LinkedIn page, so as to not only attract new audience and potential talents, but also to establish their presence more firmly among competitors in the corporate world.

DIGITAL STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT

The corporate brand is constantly being co-created by organisation with their stakeholders. Dialogical communication is said to enhance this along with corporate reputation (Gundolf et al. 2018; Ozer 2020; Rosenberg & Seager 2017).

In reality, what might this look like?

CONCLUSION

So far, leveraging social media has helped Shameless achieve their goal and stay true to their brand. “Win their niche, core audience, nurture specific community of mostly young working women” (Gillezeau 2021).

The company’s success is in no small way thanks to the relationship they have with their audience. SM has intimate understandings of what the audience wants, and are able to deliver it.

This is in large part due to the founders being in the same demographics as their audience. As McDonald put it, “[W]e wanted to tap into a younger demographic that we thought were generally being ignored by mainstream media” (Forbes 2021), which explains the company slogan.

“We make content for ourselves, our mates, and you”.

Branding and content wise, SM is doing a good job capitalising on the trends, particularly with interactive content, content marketing, and online content communities (Clark-Keane 2021; Thomson 2019).

Yet, it is also important to note the fortunate position SM finds themselves in. As a millennial start-up, they are already advantaged by having skills in digital media and technologies.

Nonetheless, through forces of strategic digital communication, Shameless Media has been successfully engaging with their stakeholders through a combination of clever branding and content marketing.

A - Alphabet.  Do they actually know their abc's in order? Or do they have to sing the whole song to remember?

not only does he MEMORIZE the alphabet (big brain energy over here) he even has a good handle on how the letters are organized on those old, nokia phone keypads because he still owns a nokia phone

B - Boyband.  Any boybands that they’re secretly or not secretly a fan of?

he says he’s a fan of the Backstreet Boys but he only listens to ‘I Want it That Way’. once, he was talking to an Actual Fan and they asked him if they liked a particular album and kuroo just panicked and yelled ‘tELL ME WHY’

C - Crocs.  Would they wear them? What kind would they wear?

wears them for the specific reason that people hate them. he’ll take aesthetic ootd pics of him in leather jackets and tight jeans with thE UGLIEST PAIR OF CROCS YOU’VE EVER SEEN. he’ll even put his feet up in class to show of his ‘bad boys’

D - Dream. The weirdest, most disturbing dream that they had.  

he once dreamt that he was short, shorter than hinata, and playing during Nationals. kenma set the ball to him and when kuroo was about to jump, he realized that the volleyball was actually a pokeball. he woke up screaming and crying about the pokeball being a void of nothingness.

E - Existential Crisis.  What caused it? What do they do during this crisis?

it happened during his first day studying biochemistry. the professor put up a documentary about the origins of life. kuroo stood up in the middle of the class and said ‘everything’s?? chemicals??’ and left, looking absolutely distraught

F - Fried.  A cooking disaster that they somehow caused.

it was an honest mistake of accidentally rubbing his eyes while chopping chilies. kenma walked in on kuroo with his face dunked in a bowl of milk and said ‘ew, you put the milk first?’

G - Good Morning. What actually wakes them up in the morning?

their Limited Edition Spongebob Squarepants wristwatch that he got in a mcdonald’s happy meal when he was ten

H - Height. What i think their actual height should be.

his Big Brain is very good for multi-purpose use. he actually plays with his calculator after he finishes his exams. you think he’s checking his answers? no, he’s trying to make a cat face.

he has a fuck ton of brain cells and they’re always having an orgy so he experiences critical thinking 24/7

the only things he can draw well are diagrams of molecules. he’ll fill the paper or board with hexagons and lines before anyone could guess that he’s drawing a chocolate-chip cookie

A-   Activities: How do they spend their time with their s/o?

Sokka doesn’t really care what they’re doing, as long as his s/o is there! Still, he won’t deny that his favorite pastime is just snuggling up to his s/o and hanging out. As much as he is a fun-loving guy, there’s just something so intimate and special about simply enjoying one another’s presences. Offer a night in, and this boy can’t turn it down!

B-    Body: What does this character appreciate about their s/o? What part of their body are they most proud of, and in reverse, what body part are they ashamed of and how do they respond to their s/o gushing over it?

Sokka will worship every inch of his s/o no question, but he’s got a particular affinity for his s/o’s hands. This boy just loves to hold hands; he’ll do so every chance he gets. He also likes to kiss all over the fingers, the tops of their hands, and their palms while whispering sweet nothings to his lover. One wouldn’t think it with how goofy he is, but Sokka can be very smooth when he wants to be.

Sokka’s pretty proud of his physique. He’s not a muscle-bound monster, but he’s toned and fit. He will definitely get a swelled ego when his s/o compliments his muscles, flexing proudly for them to encourage them to touch the hard-earned parts of his body. However, this can be a sore spot for Sokka, too. Sometimes he’s a little disgruntled that he’s leaner and more toned rather than some big strong brute. He’ll perk right up when his s/o starts showering him in praises and traveling the landscape of his body with appreciative touches. He’ll instantly fall back to that snarky, confident self! Nothing can keep this boy down for long.

Sokka loves, loves, loves to cuddle! If he’s got his arms around his s/o, he’s a happy man! Sokka will cuddle all ways he can- spooning, having his s/o seated in his lap while he bear-hugs them from behind, having his s/o cling to them like a spider monkey while they sleep. He is so clingy and needy, but his s/o can rest assured that they will be showered in affection and love!

D-   Dreams: How do they picture their future with their s/o?

Sokka definitely dreams of a domestic life with his s/o! He loves the idea of getting married and settling down to have some children. They are his entire world, and accordingly, his future revolves around them.

E-    Equivalence: Is this character the dominant force in the relationship, are they passive, or is the relationship more or less even?

Sokka can be a bit overbearing and bull-headed, but in a relationship, he tries to maintain an equal responsibility. With someone who’s as confident and independent as he is, he sometimes might grow a little passive, because he honestly respects his partner for calling the shots. There is a lot of open communication and mutual respect.

F-    Fights: How does this character respond to arguments with their s/o? What would they fight about, and who would cave and apologize first?

Sokka can be a little arrogant and stubborn, so sometimes, this can lead to strain between Sokka and his s/o. Usually, fights involve around Sokka being a little protective of his s/o; he has faith in them, but he’d hate for them to be needlessly reckless. Fights are pretty standard, shouting back and forth, but Sokka would never throw things and would never lay a hand on his s/o. When it is clear to him that he can’t get through to his s/o, he’ll excuse himself to go take a walk and clear his head. He’ll come back cooled down and more willing to see his s/o’s point of view.

G-   Gratitude: How does this character show their s/o that they are grateful?

Handmade gifts, 100%. We all know Sokka has an interest in art, and so he is always surprising his s/o with hand-carved trinkets, beaded bracelets, and cute little drawings. Giving his s/o something that he crafted specifically for them is just his way of showing his deep love and appreciation for them.

H-   Honeymoon: If this character had a honeymoon with their s/o, where would they go?

Ember Island! Sokka heard all about it from Zuko and has wanted to take a trip there for a while. It’s nice and relaxing and romantic at first, but pretty soon word gets out and the Gaang crashes the honeymoon. He releases his frustrations by absolutely stomping everyone in a beach volleyball game.

I-      Insecurity: What is this character insecure about? How do they deal with their insecurities with their s/o?

Sokka sometimes worries that someone bigger and better will come along and steal his s/o out from under him. This makes him try to overcompensate sometimes, which can grate his s/o. It takes some occasional reassurance and sweet-talking to ease Sokka’s insecurities. He wants his s/o to be happy, but secretly he’s a little selfish and wants his s/o to be happy with him.

J-      Jealousy: Is this character the jealous type? How do they deal with being jealous?

Oh, yeah. Sokka gets jealous. If he and his s/o are out and his s/o is just so radiant that they catch someone else’s attention, he is going to be so sore about it. Sokka is grumpy and clingy when he’s jealous. He’ll be all over his s/o, hugging and kissing them and following them around like a lost puppy. It’s endearing, honestly. When his s/o gets a little annoyed with his clinginess, he’ll just bat his pretty eyes and croon about how much he loves them, and it’s kinda hard to be irritated with him when he’s just so dang adorable.

K-   Kiss: What does the character want their first kiss to be like with their s/o? How does it end up happening?

Sokka is totally the type to obsess over the “right” moment. He’ll plan it in meticulous detail, setting it up around a romantic date, but when the moment comes, he’ll get super flustered. He’ll blush bright red and just stare at his s/o’s mouth like it’s an unsolvable puzzle. Eventually, when questioned, he’ll bashfully admit that he wants to kiss them. He’s a lot smoother during the actual act; it’s a super sweet and exhilarating kiss!

L-    Love Confession: How does this character first profess their love to their s/o?

He’ll start off with a cheesy pick-up line, purely for comedic effect because at this point, he and his s/o have been dating a long time. He loves to make his s/o laugh, and it’ll throw his s/o off the scent of what he’s about to do next. He’ll grab their hands and look deep into their eyes, and then just tell them how he really feels. He’s not the most eloquent guy at moments like these, so he’ll fluster and stumble a bit, but he’ll get it out. It’s super sweet!

M-  Marriage: How does this character view marriage? What is their ideal wedding like?

Sokka totally wants to get married! He fantasizes about the day he’ll propose with a hand-carved necklace. Sokka would of course honor the wishes of his bride, but he can’t deny he dreams of a traditional Water Tribe wedding. He wouldn’t mind combining the traditions of his bride into the mix, too, if they happen to hail from somewhere else. Honestly, he just wants to seal his bond to his beloved, so as long as this guy can profess his undying love to his partner, he’s all for it.

N-   Nicknames: What does this character like to call their s/o?

Sokka hates gushy nicknames; hearing how his sister goes on and on with them drives him nuts. So, he’s pretty simple with the pet names- “babe” is usually his go-to, but when he’s feeling a little more in love, he’ll drop a “honey” or “baby.” When he’s in a teasing mood, he’ll call his s/o “sweetcheeks” or “babycakes” just to fluster them.

O-   On Cloud Nine: What is this character like when they’re in love? Is it obvious to others, or are they good at hiding it?

Oh, no. There’s no hiding when Sokka’s head-over-heels. He’ll be daydreaming about them 24/7, and his friends will constantly have to snap him out of it. He is totally spacey and clumsy when he’s in love because his s/o just dominates his mind, especially in the beginning.

P-    PDA: Does this character like PDA? If so, what kinds of things do they do in public to show off their s/o?

Sokka’s not to into PDA, because he just doesn’t like couples who are all over each other, but he does love to hold hands. Whenever he and his s/o are out somewhere, his hand it glued to theirs. It’s very rare for him to peck them on the cheek and even rarer to kiss them on the mouth, but it happens sometimes, when he’s in a good mood.

Q-   Quirks: What random traits or quirks does this character have that positively affect the relationship?

Sokka’s sense of humor definitely makes the relationship fun and interesting. He’ll randomly hit on his s/o with cheesy pick-up lines, no matter how long they’ve been dating. When his s/o is angry with him or sad, he’ll start cracking totally corny jokes until they smile.

R-    Romance: Is this character a hopeless romantic, or a bit on the low-key side? Are they cliché when it comes to romantic gestures, or can they get a little bit creative?

Sokka is totally a hopeless romantic. He won’t admit it aloud, ever, but he loves being in love and doting on his s/o. Sokka is very imaginative, so most of his gestures are personal and creative. Of course, he knows the importance of tried-and-true methods, so sometimes he’ll surprise his s/o with something classic like jewelry or flowers.

S-    Secrets: Are there any secrets they hide from their s/o? If so, how do they deal with it when those secrets finally come out?

Sokka doesn’t have any secrets per se, but he does find it hard to talk about the death of his mother. It’s something that haunts him. Eventually, his s/o can coax it out of him and talk him through his trauma. He’ll feel much better with his s/o reassuring his feelings.

T-    Thrill: Does this character prefer routine in their relationship, or do they like to shake things up every once in a while?

Sokka’s kind of a meticulous guy, so he prefers routine in the relationship. However, he knows that spontaneity is important to keep the fun alive, so he’ll plan impromptu outings and fun little dates.

U-   Understanding: Is this character level-headed and empathetic toward their partner, or do they sometimes have trouble figuring them out, which leads to some butting heads?

Sokka is usually very in tune with his partner and knows how they work. Every once in a while, his s/o will do or say something that causes them to butt heads. It’s usually something that triggers Sokka’s protective nature. But, for the most part, dating Sokka is pretty smooth sailing.

V-   Value: How does this character value their relationship with their s/o? How does it hold in comparison to their goals, ambitions, etc.?

At first, Sokka’s own personal ambitions outweigh his relationship. However, after some time, his goals become intertwined with his s/o. He wants to achieve them to make them proud. At that point, his relationship is his pride, joy, and motivation.

W-  Wild Card: Any random fluff headcanon that does not fall within the other categories!

Sokka writes poems for his s/o. They’re usually silly things to make them laugh; he’ll leave them places for them to find and just make their day.

X-   XOXO: How does this character show affection?

Physical touch and gifts, 100%. When they are alone, Sokka is clinging to his s/o like a koala bear, getting as much skin-to-skin contact as he can. He just loves the clingy intimacy! As I mentioned before, he loves to make stuff for his s/o. It’s his chief way of displaying affection, because he’s not one for honeyed words or eloquent sweet nothings.

Y-   Yearning: How does this character deal with time apart with their s/o?

Mopey. Mopeyyyy. Makes everyone around him miserably because he is a whiny mopey baby. He hates any prolonged time apart from his s/o. At first, he’s pretty good at hiding it and will go off to sulk by himself, but after too long, he craves attention and will start flopping around and whining to anyone who’ll listen. As soon as his s/o is back, he’s attaching himself to them like a leech, PDA be damned.

Z-    Zeal: Is this character willing to great lengths for their relationship? If so, how far, and how long does it take to get to this point?

Sokka will literally throw hands with an entire army for his s/o after about a good six months of dating. Anyone hurts his s/o and he is a man on a mission to wipe out anything and everything that made them cry. His s/o is the world to him.

A   :   AFFECTION.   how does your muse show affection?

Shifty is soft, man. He just...  cares a lot, and wants to show it any way he can. When he cares about someone, he’s generous with his touches, casual and nonintrusive, always light (as though some part of him is worried about hurting anyone else ever again). Shifty’s go-to display of physical affection is an arm around someone’s waist, binding the two of them together; he’s also fond of little gifts for his loved ones, something he picked up at the bakery, or some flowers that reminded him of them. He’ll usually leave the gifts where he knows they’ll see them, and say no more about it. Above all, Shifty’s affection is non-intrusive. He doesn’t make a big deal about it, and does nothing to show off.

B   :   BOUQUET.   does your muse like flowers? which ones are their favourite?

Shifty frankly prefers flowers outdoors, still growing...  picking them always feels a bit like destroying a part of nature, which he doesn’t enjoy. Yet he can also admit, flowers can be a very romantic thing. Shifty’s mother had a beautiful garden, and he inherited a love of it from her, so he sometimes makes bouquets from his own garden to give to the people he loves. He’s partial to rhododendrons and mountain laurel.

C   :   CHOCOLATE.   does your muse like chocolate? which one is their favourite?

He’s got a weakness. Give him a Hershey’s bar any day and he’s a happy man. (The ones with almonds are the best, in his opinion. He likes the crunch. Don’t drag him.) A box of chocolate will make his Valentine’s Day, he needs nothing else.

D   :   DATE.   what is your muse’s ideal date? where / who with / etc?

A few things are ideal:  meaningful conversation, somewhere quiet  ---  preferably outdoors  ---  and someone who can fill the silence. Shifty’s not a big talker. He can make conversation well enough, but it helps to have someone who has things to say, and can draw him in. Otherwise, well...  if there’s too much silence, he’ll get nervous. If he doesn’t feel like he connected with the person somehow and came out understanding them better, it was a failed date. Shifty’s ideal is...  a walk outside, maybe? In the woods, or by the lake? Somewhere he feels comfortable, and where they can talk in peace. 

E   :   EMBRACE.   does your muse like hugs? what are their hugs like?

He is an amazing hugger, okay? Very solid, very secure...  frankly, he likes getting hugs as much as giving them, but giving them is a responsibility, okay? If he cares about someone, he’ll hug them to protect them, to show them that he cares...  and Shifty’s hugs are a beautiful experience. You know the feeling of being a kid, playing outside on a snow day? It’s freezing out, you’ve soaked through your gloves and got snow in your boots, your cheeks are stinging from the cold...  but you step inside, and there’s a mug of hot cocoa sitting on the table waiting for you. It’s loaded with marshmallows and whipped cream, not too hot or too cold  ---  the perfect temperature. As soon as you take a sip, you feel warm all over....  boom. You’ve just been hugged by Shifty Powers.

F   :   FLIRT.   is your muse good at flirting? how do they flirt?

He’s a very...  sincere flirt. Like, Shifty flirting is not out to make anyone uncomfortable, and would be horrified if he knew he’d managed it. Pretty much just actual conversation with compliments mixed in; they might not even know he’s flirting until they catch the flush on his cheeks, or the way he can only look at them for a moment before looking away. If he’s feeling really bold, he might even take the person’s hand.

G   :   GIFT.   is your muse good at gift - giving or do they struggle to get it right?

For Shifty, gift-giving is an intuitive thing. He always observes things about the people he loves; he remembers their likes and interests easily. If they say something offhand, like “I could really use some new oven mitts” or “I broke my favorite figurine the other day”, he’ll rock up with some cookingwear and super glue. Again with the gift-giving thing, Shifty never makes it a big deal. If they don’t even know it’s from him, that’s alright. The point is that it matters, and makes the people he cares about happy.

H   :   HEART.   is your muse quick or slow to give their heart away?

Here’s Shifty’s stance  ---  a fellow knows when he knows. If it’s meant to be, he believes, it will just feel right; one day, his heart will settle into a rhythm of beats that matches the person he’s supposed to spend the rest of his life with, and it’ll be the most natural thing in the world. Before that can happen, though, he’s very...  thoughtful about love. A little cautious. If it doesn’t feel right at first, he’s going to trust that gut instinct. However, Shifty grows to care for people very easily, without even meaning to...  so even if it’s not romantic love, he can’t quite help how quick he is to love someone.

I    :   I LOVE YOU.   does your muse find ‘i love you’ easy or hard to say?

Again  ---  if it feels right, and Shifty’s heart’s all in it, it’s the easiest thing in the world. With Shifty, the words are always genuine, and always ring with truth.

J   :   JEALOUSY.   does your muse get jealous in a relationship?

Trust is a major component in any of Shifty’s relationships. If he doesn’t have that with someone, he can’t be truly comfortable, or happy. But if he does  ---  and trust comes easily to him  ---  it’s unwavering. As long as his partner loves him, he doesn’t doubt them for a second.

K   :   KISS.   is your muse a good kisser? why / why not?

He’s shy at first...  but, with a bit of encouragement, gains confidence very quickly. His favorite position is having a partner straddle his knee, with his hand on their waist to steady them. Nipping his lip makes him  w e a k .

L   :   LOVE.   who does your muse love?

So!! Many!! People!! Shifty has such a capacity for love, and such a big heart. It would be impossible for him to list all the people he cares for, but his family is definitely at the top of that list. He’d do anything for his parents or siblings. The same goes for his friends, old and new; even if they’ve been out of contact for years, Shifty’s heart isn’t the sort that can ever truly stop caring about someone. 

M   :   MOONLIGHT.   is morning or night a more romantic setting?

Honestly...  Shifty’s one of those gross morning people. He finds no setting more romantic than dawn, with the peaceful sounds of a reawakening world in his ears, and his lover’s hands in his. His lover  ---  provided they are not a morning person, and have just been dragged out of bed because Shifty was very enthusiastic about the sunrise  ---  might not agree.

N   :   NAUGHTY.   what is your muse like in bed?

Again...  he’s a quite shy first, a little uncertain, really just feeling out what he’s doing. Doesn’t have much technique, goes all on instinct; probably very sensual, needs to be touching, needs to feel his partner. Just feeling their heartbeat racing against him, or their breaths muffled into his skin, is a big turn on for him. Encouragement is key here  ---  he needs to see that his partner likes what he’s doing, or even be told that he’s doing a good job. While Shifty is a very giving lover, if he were to get any of that in return  ---   god forbid, an entire session devoted solely to him  ---  he’d absolutely melt.

O   :   ODE.   does your muse have a way with words?

He has a very simple, softspoken manner of speaking, but always gets his point across. He’s never been much of a writer, much more comfortable expressing himself verbally, but also understands some things don’t need to be said to be true.

P   :   PARTNER.   what does your muse look for in a partner? looks / personality?

More than anything else, Shifty would seek out a kind person. Someone with a gentle soul, a deep capacity for empathy  ---  someone who gives to others before taking for themselves. Shifty isn’t too specific when it comes to looks, but he would appreciate someone physically strong  (and he’s got a weakness for freckles). His partner would definitely have to love nature, and be content with living a quiet life  ---  nothing too grandiose, but comfortable and safe. Shifty looks for someone who makes him feel like he’s come home at the end of every day.

Q   :   QUESTION.   would your muse ask the big question or expect their partner to?

Him, of course! Honestly, Shifty didn’t even contemplate it any other way. It’s just...  the gentlemanly way to go about things, isn’t it? If his partner beat him to it, he’d stammer and blush like a firetruck.

R   :   ROMANCE.   is your muse a romantic or a cynic?

Very much a romantic. He’s all about them heart eyes, baby.

S   :   SWEETHEART.   did your muse have a childhood sweetheart?

No childhood sweethearts! Shifty was a quiet, sort of intense kid, who blended in with his brothers. The Powers boys were considered a little wild  ---  not because they caused any trouble, but because they spent so much time outside. It wasn’t uncommon for more well-off children  (especially young girls in their hair ribbons and pristinely-ironed dresses)  to turn their noses up at them. 

T   :   TRUE LOVE.   does your muse believe in true love?

Again  ---  if it’s right, it’s right. If you know, you know. What is that if not true love?

U   :   UNREQUITED.   has your muse had their heart broken?

Luckily...  no, he hasn’t. He’s always guarded his heart too well for that, and never fallen in love with someone who would.

V   :   VALENTINE.   how does your muse feel about valentine’s day?

Well, it’s an opportunity to spend time with the person he loves, and give them a special day. Also, an opportunity for chocolate. Sure, it’s a little commercial, and too much importance is placed on having a date or not...  but Valentine’s Day can be wonderful in practice, if spent right.

W  :   WEDDING.   would your muse get married? why / why not?

Frankly, once he’s certain of his own feelings and equally confident in his partner’s, he’d be eager to get married as soon as possible. Why waste time when it’s right? Shifty would want to make the proposal romantic, but intimate  ---   he’d probably drop down on one knee during a nighttime stroll, in one of their favorite locations, somewhere meaningful to himself and his partner.

X   :   XOXO.   does your muse use / like pet names?

You bet! He comes up with pretty cute ones, too  (even if they don’t make much sense)  and likes to get creative.

Y   :   YOURS.   does your muse get protective easily?

He actually has a strong protective instinct! It’s basically a sleeping snake  ---  you might not even notice it, but the second someone he loves is threatened, it rears it’s head and makes itself known. Shifty isn’t a violent guy, so he won’t threaten...  but he will step in to defend the people he cares about if they’re ever in trouble. Some things Shifty Powers simply doesn’t tolerate, and hurting his loved ones is at the top of that list. How many confirmed kills does Shifty have again? Mmm, bear that in mind.

Z   :   ZZZ.   how many people has your muse slept with?

Oh gosh, not many at all. He’s not a promiscuous guy; not a blushing virgin either, not with the war going on (and not with friends like Popeye and McClung), but definitely not someone who enjoys sleeping with people casually. For Shifty, it is a very intimate, very personal experience. He probably slept with...  one girl during the war, maybe two. After that, he decided to wait for the right person to come along.

Soft Alphabet - Matt

a/n: here’s a new fic outline i first did with zapata :) i’ll be doing a few of these in the coming weeks, so pls don’t ask if i will be :) also i shut my laptop off before transferring this, so i can’t add a ‘keep reading’ link at the moment

A - Affection (how do they show affection)

matt shows his affection through song. he’s not one for words, and sometimes finds it hard to express his feelings. instead, he’ll write a love song, detailing his love and adoration for you. he would record it exclusively, with just his voice and his guitar, and he would play it for you, and only you.

B - Balance (how do they balance you, work/school/life?)

he sees you all the time, basically. there is no balance. matt would rather spend time with you than his dad anyways, and when he’s with you, he’ll do schoolwork, which you make him do. the only time he doesn’t see you is when he’s working or with his bandmates.

C - Cuddles (do they enjoy cuddling? what positions?)

even if he doesn’t admit it, he loves to cuddle. it’s what calms him down after a long day of work and dealing with his dad. he’ll come home to find you in his room, the same place he told you to wait until he got home. he plops onto the bed and cuddles up to you, nuzzling his face into your neck and closing his eyes. you thread your fingers through his hair and comfort him as he rants about his shift, complaining about customers, his dad, letting out all of his thoughts.

D - Date (what was your first date?)

your first date is to a small concert in the park event. a few local bands were playing, excluding matt and his band, but he wanted to take you to a low key event. since you both bonded over music, he decided this would be the best option. so while the bands played in the background, you two chat and eat street food, even cuddling while the watching the bands. and because he’s matt and all, he kisses you sweetly at the end of the date, as he’s dropping you off at your place.

E - Excited (how excited do they get when they see you/are with you?)

matt tries to play it cool when he sees you, if he’s around people. like if you come to one of his band’s gig, he’ll coolly stride over to you and greet you. he doesn’t want people knowing that he’s a total softie for you because he will never hear the end of it from his friends if they do. but if you show up at his house alone, he has a huge smile on his face and is pulling you into his arms within a second.

F - Fighting (what happens when you fight)

your fights can get pretty bad sometimes. matt has a temper, so when he gets mad, he’s mad. you usually try to reason with him and keep him calm, but that doesn’t work all the time. he will blow up and say things he doesn’t even mean. you or him will either storm off to give each other some time to cool down before talking things out.

G - Gorgeous (pet names. what do they like to call you? what do they like to be called?)

basically any name in the book, matt likes to call you. baby, love, darling, sweetheart, gorgeous, beautiful. any name he can think of. and even though he doesn’t admit it, he enjoys the pet names you call him as well, including babe, lover, honey. he loves them so much and smiles and blushes every time you call him one when you are alone.

H - Hi (first time meeting)

you two first meet at the record store. you work there every weekend just to make some money, and one day, matt comes in looking for a specific album. he is in the store for a good fifteen minutes trying to look for it on his own, but he struggles. so, you walk over to him and ask if he needs help. he shyly admits that he does and tells you what he’s looking for. you then guide him over to the section and grab the album. he’s a bit embarrassed, but is happy that he finally got it. you quickly check him out, and that’s when he asks you if you’d like to go out sometime for lunch or dinner.

I - Insecure (what they do when you’re feeling insecure/vice versa)

matt doesn’t get insecure often, since he’s pretty confident and happy with himself. when he does, though, you are there to reassure him that he’s perfect to you. when you’re down, he tries his hardest to cheer you up with humor. he will pull funny faces, tell awful jokes, trying to get you to smile. when you finally do, he turns serious and gives you a long explanation of what he loves about you and how amazing he thinks you are. he’ll also give you many kisses until you feel better.

J - Jealousy (do they get jealous? how do they react to you being jealous)

surprisingly, matt gets insanely jealous. he knows that you would never cheat on him, but the idea of another guy flirting with you, looking you up and down at a party, or even just talking to you, makes him jealous. he doesn’t want any other guy flirting with you or even staring at you the way he does.

K - Kisses (where do they like to kiss you/how often?)

he kisses you whenever he has the chance to. when you come to visit him at work, he’ll take a little break and just kiss you, eventually getting told off by his dad. he also loves to make out, whenever. if you two are hanging out and he’s bored, he’ll just start kissing you, leading to a small, or big, makeout session, which can lead to more. he just loves having his lips on yours, it’s like an addiction.

L - Love (when was the first time they said i love you or realized it?)
