“Please, please!” Margaery begged Sansa. “Tell me they were really flirting with you.”

Sansa gave her sister-in-law a long look. “Marge. It’s been a difficult night, I’d really like to go to sleep.”

“And you will.” Marge said, entering Sansa’s bedroom. “As soon as you tell me I’m right.”

Sansa sighed. “What if they are?”

Margaery smirked. “Are you interested?”

Sansa scoffed. “No.”

Margaery sighed dramatically. “Why not? Have you seen those two?”

“I have. Many times, actually.” She sighed again. “It’s not… They just want to take me dancing.”

Margaery frowned. “Horizontally?”

“Get out!” Sansa ordered, but she couldn’t help but grin.

“Do you think we shouldn’t have said anything?” Steve asked Bucky, once they were back in their hotel room.

“I’m not sure.” Bucky admitted. “I think that Sansa is a person who’d like honesty.”

“She seems very reserved.” Steve commented.

“Yeah… I got the same impression.” Bucky sat next to him on the bed. “I think there are many things we still don’t know about her.”

“Do you think we have any chance?”

Bucky grinned at Steve. “You really liked her, didn’t you?”

“I did.” The captain admitted easily. “There’s something about her that it’s really… It’s hard to describe.”

“So it isn’t the British accent?” Bucky teased him.

“No.” Steve checked Bucky’s shoulder with his. “And you also like her.”

“I do.” He said with a grin. “She’s a tough one, but she’s not mean.” A pause. “Does that make sense?”

“A lot of sense.” Steve assured him. “I feel a bit like a teen again. Wondering if the pretty girl likes me.”

Bucky chuckled. “Well, I hope the pretty girl likes us.”

“So do I.”

Sansa woke up in a cold sweat, her heart beating furiously inside her chest.

She dreamed again.

Well, those weren’t dreams, they were worse: memories. Memories of the days spent under Cersei’s tender care.

Cersei Lannister was obsessed with mutants. She wanted to find a way to harvest their powers for her family and their use, and HYDRA had been only too happy to help her.

Sansa had spent what felt like years locked in that basement, being studied like a lab rat, while they waited to see if her powers manifested.

The scientists were really interested in her, because she had the genes -they’d found that out quite early -but she had no powers. They’d extract blood from her often to make tests, try serums, and then try to ‘encourage’ her mutation to appear. Those sessions were little more than torture.

They’d lock her up in small, dark places, try shock-therapy, multiple drug cocktails, hoping one of those things would push her mutation forward.

This lasted for one year, but to her it had seemed so much longer. She could still remember Joffrey’s obvious glee at her pain, and Cersei’s outbursts at what she considered Sansa’s failure.

One day she just woke up with frost on her fingertips, lips blue, but she didn’t feel cold. Sansa knew then that her powers had awakened.

She also knew exactly what she was going to do.

The destruction of that lab and the death of Joffrey were, to this day, her greatest achievements. Unfortunately Cersei wasn’t in the house, so she escaped.

She’d tried not telling her family about what had happened, but it’d been futile. Arya somehow already knew, and so did Bran. Jon and Robb were quick to find out.

There was nothing left to hide.

She wanted to say it was in the past, but then things like yesterday’s attack would happen and she’d go straight back to that basement, to that cell.

It was fucking exhausting.

She got out of bed, and prepared for a long day.

Arya was probably already interrogating the mercenaries they’d captured the day before, so this was one less concern.

She’d almost forgotten about the Avengers and the fact that Margaery had invited them for brunch, when they arrived.

“Elsa.” Tony nodded at her and she rolled her eyes.

Steve and Bucky came in and they smiled at her when they saw her.

“Good morning, doll.” Bucky was the first to speak.

“Sansa.” Steve looked so pleased to see her.

And her heart, her traitor of a heart, squeezed painfully in her chest.

fun fact: the only other character that i can find to ever even be descibed as having red-brown hair in the main series is rowan, one of the spearwives who accompanied mance on his mission to winterfell. (described by theon, who had psychological reasons not to think of any hair-resemblance to robb and co.)

tl;dr i suppose my point here is that auburn hair in the real world may be a term thrown around wildly as a fancier way of saying red hair, but grrm and his westerosi creations seem to keep to a much more specific (true) definition. not just specific, almost entirely unique to a certain family, a weird mutation passing down their line somewhat inexplicably, like the magic platinum hair of the targaryens. (ned stark's 4 tully-haired kids being sorta like alicent hightower's 4 targ-haired kids where nobody can really explain why it was so dominant.) except it's actually more unique to the tullys than either black hair to the baratheons or silver hair to the targaryens, with the velaryons also having valyrian hair as well as some people in the essosi free cities too. which i guess makes rowan the wildling the equalivent of an unknown dragonseed or a lysene woman who could pass as a targ, and regular brown-haired hoster and sweetrobin the equivalent of regular blonde-haired alysanne and alyssa targaryen. so the next time someone calls the tullys lame or whatever, just remember that in-universe they're actually more special than the dragonriders, at least hairwise.
