HEADCANON + FUSHIGURO MEGUMI || relationship things
request: Can you do sfw and nsfw relationship hcs for Fushiguro
note: hello love! i wouldn’t mind doing some hcs for our little shy bean! tbh, i am not going to lie, this did not take me long to thing lmao - this is my first nsfw work on this blog tho! so this was definitely fun.
pronouns: them/they
note: aged-up!fushiguro! x reader, nsfw content below - please skip if you’re uncomfortable
other than that, enjoy~
Tumblr media
sfw
if you two ever share a home together, i feel like he’s the kind of guy who would string fairy lights around your home because it’s cozy to him?
definitely have dog themed couple items - matching dog themed slippers, mugs, even decorative plates if you allow him to
bet you they are both modelled after his shikigami dogs - since they were the first shikigami to submit to him. so they always hold a special place in his heart
i feel like even though he trains hard, he still likes to keep his hands in good condition. so there is tubes of hand lotion scattered everywhere, at the most random of places by the way
speaking to that - you two might have manicure weekends at home; where he’d spend some time just trimming and caring for his hands and fingernails. he’d do yours if you ask him to
sometimes he’d come home dead tired and just collapses on you wordlessly - wrapping his arms around you tightly whilst burying his face into your neck
would sigh in content when you wrap your arms around him and hold him close, just running your fingers through his hair gently and tracing your fingers down the back of his neck
if you try to ask him about work, he’d either tell you everything in detail or nothing at all - there is no in between
most times it’s just him grumbling about gojo and yuji, who he’d once said they both ‘shave so many years off my life just by breathing’
when he’s away on missions, he’ll call you just so you two can go about your day. no words are needed, but he just wants to hear you go about your day. it calms him down, and reminds himself that you’re going to be there for him
weekend visits to his sister - who survived the Shibuya incident and is now recovering slowly under the care of Ieiri (this is not canon by the way - in the manga we still have no idea how things are gonna turn out for her after the whole Geto thing)
having random members of the zen’in clan coming to your shared home asking if you’d talk to them about trying to convince fushiguro to become a zen’in
if fushiguro is home at the time, he’d send his devine dog on them; listening to their terrified screams with a pleased smile as they ran away from your home
“that’s not really nice, gumi.”
“yeah, yeah - wanna go grab some bingsu?”
honey, you are set for life by the way - mans can cook a bomb ass meal. and from what we know, learns quick too. so if you want to try something new, just give him a few minutes to google and watch a tutorial on it and i bet your ass he can recreate it down to a t
feel like he gives the best massages - don’t tell me otherwise. his hands are definitely made for more then just battles
enjoys it when you would whisper sweet nothings to him after a long week of work - getting more and more cuddly the longer you shower him in praises
he’s more talkative around you compared to others, more willing to share his emotions and how he’s feeling - even though sometimes he finds it hard to find the right words
he lets you wear his clothes - shirts, sweaters, hoodies, sweats. you name it, he’d just gives it to you. finds it cute how you’re drowned in the fabric
enjoys blow drying your hair; idk, i just see him with a peaceful expression on his face, carefully blow drying your hair for you after a warm shower together
would give you actual advice on your outfit - i feel like he’s the one who helps yuji and nobara put together their outfits together whenever they go out of town
nothing is out of place in your home - there is always a compartment for it, or a space on the shelf, or in a drawer
cooking dates together - if you can’t cook, he’ll teach you. if you can cook, you two will try something new together
feel like he’s a dark chocolate fanatic - so you guys will always have a shit ton of chocolate in your home
on some days you’ll come home and just have nue stretched out over your living room, your boyfriend just watching the tv before him whilst petting the owl-like shikigami like it’s a domesticated cat
“oh, hey babe.” he’d greet with a casual nod at you whilst you stand in the hallway, blinking in confusion
idk, i feel like you two have a chilled but lowkey chaotic relationship - since he is friends with gojo, yuji and nobara. but it’s still really loving, with more physical instead of verbal shows of affection. you’ll be treated like a queen/king, and as long as megumi has it, he will make sure you know how much he loves you, even if he’s not by your side due to work
nsfw
okay, i get he’s all innocent and is dense in everything else besides jujutsu - but you have to remember this dude’s dad is fushiguro fucking togi
don’t tell me this man is kink-less - there is no fucking way
i mean yeah, when you two first get down and dirty together, i feel like he’s all awkward and unsure at first, since he didn’t want to hurt you
but i get this vibe that he knows exactly what he wants - but let’s remember he’s still a shy bean that refuses to do anything with you until he is 100% comfortable
stress sex happens often - i can bet you that this man will probably come home with a dark look on his face, push you onto the nearest flat surface and just grinds against your ass
people keep saying that he’s a boobs man - and i can see that. doubt he really gives a shit about the size, he just enjoys how he can play with your nipples and have you squirm underneath him
he enjoys tugging your hair - there is just something about wrapping your soft strands between his fingers whilst he fucks you hard; hearing your voice loud and clear
feel like he’s a doggy man; enjoys running his large hand down your back and gripping the back of your neck. how he can shove your face into the mattress whilst fucking you silly from the back
lowkey has a dumbification kink - enjoys whenever you fucked so good by him that you’re basically drooling and babbling absolute nonsense at him
enjoys leaving hickeys on places you’d never notice at first - on your back, back of your hip, small of your back, shoulder blades. he enjoys you coming up to him with a blush on your face and smacking his shoulder, whining to him that nobara and maki saw the hickeys he left all over to you
bruises on your hips are also a common thing too - he’s hands are so strong and rough that sometimes he just forgets that your skin is delicate and you can bruise easily. he’ll apologise, then add new ones on top of the old ones
enjoys choking you as well - loves to feel your racing pulse under his fingertips and how you tighten around him whenever he tightens his old around you more
dacryphilia - definitely feels a thrill go through him when you’d look up at him with tear soaked lashes and stained cheeks. makes him take you harder
doesn’t always enjoy a blowjob - idk why, i feel like he’s more into giving that receiving. goes with his dacryphilia kink too - will stay with his head between your thighs until you’re crying and shaking whilst you try to push him away
definitely enjoys pinning you down, either with his hands or with ropes and handcuffs, but he’s not interested in the entire bdsm thing
enjoys buying you lacy lingerie, regardless of what gender you are, and just have you put them on to show him; only to then rip it off of you as he pins you down on the sofa
he’s somewhat of a soft dom, he wants to protect you and always make sure you’re going to be enjoying yourself. but he’s not above using your body for his own pleasure
he’s not a loud man - a loud grunt from time to time, low groans and growls. but he’s not loud in bed. but enjoys it when you’re loud
man loves the aftercare process - cleans you up gently with a towel, making sure you’re hydrated, getting you snacks if you’re hungry, rubbing your sore muscles. he views it as intimate and cherishes those moments when you lean on him the most

Dominique and Vanitas do not exist
It's interesting given how little these two like each other, but Dominique and Vanitas have a fondamental thing in common: an extremely frail sense of self.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
They even start it out in almost the same way: they lose an important relative who looked a lot like them (twin brother for Dominique, mother for Vanitas), and feel like they were at fault for that.
But this was the main devastating event in Domi's life, although not helped by her family's abuse; Vanitas enjoyed several more later, which generally had to do with other people dying for his sake, voluntarily or not.
Still, neither was in an environment that encouraged them to form their own identities: Dominique was held to 'expectations' that she appearently failed to meet (...she's a Royal Guard at twenty. Che minchia did they expect, that she became Captain at fourteen?), and was constantly scorned and mocked for that. Vanitas was stripped of his name, given a number instead, and used as a guinea pig with no regard for his consent.
They coped with this in pretty much the same way: putting on masks made of the identities of those tied to their traumas.
Tumblr media
Dominique tried to become Louis, the twin she saw as more worthy of living. She cut her hair short and started using masculine clothing. She started acting cocky and confident like he had been, hiding her shy and feminine personality as well as her traumas. While she grew back her hair and returned to female clothing when not on the clock as a guard, the 'personality changes' stayed - unless she's around her family, in which case she's too terrified to act. Or ... to do anything at all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If Dominique used a prepackaged custom, Vanitas made up one from bits and pieces of other identities.
He describes himself as a doctor, like his father was. He insists on keeping his hair long, something traditionally considered feminine, while he was told that he looked like his mother. He abandons his birth name a second time, to take the moniker of the Vampire of the Blue Moon as his own; just as he takes the Book of Vanitas, another item anyone can connect to that identity. He styles himself after Luna in other minor ways that others would not recognize: the baggy coat, the gloves with pointed tips that recall their long nails, the hourglass charm.
One has to wonder whom he borrowed his immediate personality from - you know, that cocky, confident, trollish attitude he exibited at the start of the manga, around people who didn't know him very well. Luna? No, her cheery attitude is more reminishing of a Jeanne in good spirits, chaotic and clumsy but not arrogant.
... don't tell me it was Moreau. Vanitas is not overdramatic like him, but there is something ... pride, out-of-place cheerfulness, a lack of regard for other people's consent ... this line of thinking makes my skin crawl, so I'll just drop it on you and run.
Going back to the point! Which is: this lack of identity is perceived only by them. To everyone else, they are well-defined people, that can be and are loved.
Let's just consider the important people they have in common: Noé and Jeanne.
To Noé, Dominique is his precious childhood friend, just like Louis was; she's the girl he played with when he was a child, the one who was by his side during the mourning for their other friens; she's the one he confides in because she's attentive and reliable, the one he does not exitate to comfort. She's not something that can only aspire to be a cheap Louis knock-off, she's her own person, and he loves her; maybe not in the way she would like, but love nonetheless.
To Noé, Vanitas is this mysterious person that ended up in his life, and is not quite sure what to think of because he keeps changing attitude. He first saw his arrogant and clownish mask, then he saw how he reacted to a failure, realized he put him on a pedestal, decided to get to know the actual person. Then he found out about his spiteful traits in the Catacombs Arc, stuck to his side despite all the arguments, and encouraged him when he faltered. Then in the Gevaudan Arc Noé was the one to falter, and Vanitas intervened to motivate him. Now, the last thing Noé has said Vanitas on-screen, is that he was glad that he is the way he is. Noé sees Vanitas as a complex, often contradictory person, but one that it's worth getting to know.
To Jeanne, Dominique is the first person in her age group who showed willingness to be her friend. She sees her as confident and strong, which is not quite exact, but the fact that she was the first one to encourage her stays.
To Jeanne, Vanitas is ... a mess, a person that started out horrible to her but later amended it by saving the people she cared for, and now she loves him and wants to know him better.
This is not to mention their other bonds: Dominique was loved by Louis himself, and she mentioned being popular amongst girls her age, some of whom will likely consider her a friend. Vanitas has a more or less working partnership with the dhampirs, some tentative confidence with Roland, and then there's Misha who for sure considers him an individual person, even if it is to hate him.
I think it's very interesting, and maybe not exactly a coincidence, that past and issues of them both are explored in-depth in the same arc. I'm curious to see: will they manage to overcome these issues and find some self-identity and self-worth, or there is a tragic ending for one or both of them?
Thanks to anyone who bothered to read my ramblings!

Animation Night 54 - FLCL
Hey friends! Perhaps surprisingly with the amount of Gainax we’ve covered here, I’ve never actually watched FLCL! But tonight? We’re going to fix that...
Tumblr media
“huh, what’s this one, Eff Ell Cee Ell?” “baka! it’s pronounced Fooly Cooly!” “uh, sure, ok? do i know you?” - more or less how i imagine anime conventions went in the mid 2000s
FLCL is a six-episode OVA from THE YEAR 2000, a high point in the Gainax’s arc between their other most famous works like Eva and Gurren Lagann. (Previously on Animation Night: Rebuild of Eva, early Gainax, Hiroyuki Imaishi, Gurren Lagann). Hot on the tail of the incredible but harrowing film End of Evangelion, it was the studio’s chance to pour their built up energy into something much lighter, a portrayal of a different side of adolescence in all its confusion that gleefully blends metaphor and sci-fi, all set to the music of indie band The Pillows.
For the director of this one, we need to introduce another member of the Gainax cast. FLCL was the creation - and directorial debut! - of Anno’s protégé Kazuya Tsurumaki (whose The Dragon Dentist opened the Animator Expo making him one of the first people we ever watched on Animation Night), and what a statement it is, consciously an attempt to experiment with the ‘rules’ of TV animation from soundtrack to pacing. Tsurumaki would go on to direct Diebuster, a stylistically distinct (but cool as hell) sequel to Gunbuster about a girl who is the mecha; then, in the late 2000s, he’d follow Anno to Studio Khara to work on the Eva Rebuilds.
But he’s certainly not the only person to make FLCL: it is also an absolute sakuga feast, giving its key animators a lot of space to express their particular styles. By this point, renowned animators like Yoh Yoshinari and Tetsuya Nishio had been pushing themselves to create some of Eva’s most brutal scenes, and were ready to cut loose and drop some of the most insanely cool sequences of their careers. It was a milestone for Hiroyuki Imaishi too, the first time he directed an episode (episode 5) as well as a chance to bring some of that relentlessly chaotic, visual-gag-heavy directing style to his key animation... All that energy and charm extends very much to the character acting oriented scenes as well, with some really delightfully exaggerated poses and emotions giving it a particular charm, but also the ability to convey subtler and quieter scenes like the many atmospheric canalside shots.
Tumblr media
It also... struggling to find the right words for this, but looking at the animation and character designs really seems like a fascinating transitional point from the kinds of slightly angular, character designs and animation styles of the 80s-90s OVA era, like we saw last week in Down Load, into the particular kinds of stylisation and exaggeration that would later become the Imaishi/Trigger signature...
So what’s it about? In terms of literal plot details: 12-year-old kid Naoto Nandaba gets whacked on the head by a vespa-riding girl with a bass guitar named Haruko, which like most head injuries, results in robots periodically emerging from his forehead. Fortunately, Haruko - claiming to be a space cop - is able to subvert one of the robots and give Naoko a way to defend himself, but her presence draws the attention of legions of suited goons from the
Yet even before this happens, things seem a little strange: the town in which he lives is dominated by a looming corporate building that looks exactly like a clothing iron. Which feels like a way of saying, don’t try to interpret this too literally!
Tumblr media
Over the course of those six episodes, it sounds like things go some pretty wild places! One sequence both @lyravelocity and @mogsk were keen to mention was the episode designed to take after a manga, with the motion edited into black and white panel borders and physical sound effects. Apparently this was accomplished by drawing an enormous manga page as a background, and moving the multiplane camera over it along with the cels, in one of the most technically complex anime shots ever filmed at the time. I can’t wait to see it!
(I also can’t deny FLCL has some troubling elements, or at least ones worth flagging up in advance. F’r example, there’s apparently one episode where the main character’s dad chases him around in a nazi uniform repeatedly seig heiling, which I believe is in context a crass way to signify his authoritarian attitude with a visual gag. I haven’t heard about anything in it that I would consider outright evil; a spirit of irreverence and experimentation is sometimes going to go some misguided places as much as it succeeds in creating something brilliant and new, but you know, don’t let your psychic armour down entirely, this is a Gainax show!)
Tumblr media
Unfortunately for such a renowned work of animation, the existing prints of FLCL are not fantastic. We’re left with the choice of either the Japanese DVD release in interlaced NTSC which is of course low resolution and poorly suited to computer playback, or a blu-ray release which applies a detail-removing, over-filtered digital upscale, and also messes with the crop and colours. It’s kind of a case of pick your poison, and some nyaa uploaders prefer the DVD, while others use the bluray. I’m going to test out both on my system and make a decision on the night; of course, given I’m streaming to you over Twitch, it’s kind of moot on your end ><
There are, at least, extensive production materials available: storyboards, commentary tracks, and interviews with the creators which I would like to show if time permits! (Which it probably will, because the total runtime of the OVA is only about 3 hours.)
And then, the sequels. FLCL received a pair of sequel series airing in 2018 titled FLCL Alternative and FLCL Progressive. The circumstances of their creation are a little weird: at first, Gainax (now a shell of a company, with all its big names departing to Khara and Trigger) was set to sell the rights to Studio Khara, with whom it was also fighting a lawsuit over refusal to pay Evangelion royalties; according to Anno, Gainax jacked up the price at the last minute and the deal fell through.
Instead, the main animation work on the sequels was handled by Production I.G. (who had been part of the original show’s production committee) with support from several young studios like Signal.MD, Revoroot and NUT. Several of the staff returned, including the original character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, and while Tsurumaki apparently supervised (but did not direct) the project... the general feeling I’ve gotten towards these series is lukewarm at best, certainly not as well regarded as the original. Is that fair? I can’t say, but I’m not gonna consider screening them til I’ve watched them myself.
Tumblr media
Animation Night 54: FLCL will begin at 7pm UK time at twitch.tv/canmom - and, gosh, I’m incredibly excited to see this at last, it sounds like such a fantastic time. Hope to see you there :)

VK Character Analysis: Rido Kuran
Rido is a complete, messed up, SOB, but I still like him as a character because he is simply such a fun villain. If I were to place him in that alignment chart thing, he would be “chaotic evil” without a doubt.
While he is generally seen as a creepy, sister-obsessed, maniac, I really believe he was different earlier in his life.
This analysis is based off the Rido we see in the manga and the light novel, NOT the Rido in the anime, since the anime was trash and deviated from the manga when it came to his arc. Anyway, at the start of the post, I will go over the info from the light novel and manga, next will be my headcanons of him as a young man and at the end is my interpretation of him when he was crazy, as we see him in the original series.
                                                               XXX
The Deranged Love story in the Fleeting Dreams light novel talks about Rido’s obsession with Juri and gives some info on their past. However, when compared to the original VK series there are several points that don’t add up, and some parts of the light novel simply make no sense.
First, Both VKM and the light novel mention that Rido killed his parents and presumably devoured them to take their powers. That makes sense, it seems like something he would do. What doesn’t make sense to me is the timeline. When exactly did he kill his parents?
All the light novel tells us is that he killed them immediately after they engaged him to Shizuka. Is this around the time Haruka and Juri got married? I always assumed Haruka and Juri have been married for a while, like at least 1000 years. If this is the case, within that time period, how can they not notice that their parents are dead and that their brother killed them?
Or does their murder occur closer to the time Juri got pregnant? But this doesn’t make sense either because Rido referred to Shizuka as a “small child” when he killed his parents, and by the time Juri was pregnant with Yuki’s real brother, Shizuka was probably already at least one or two thousand years old. Unless Shizuka is much younger than we thought? So when exactly Rido kills his parents is quite the mystery.
Secondly, How did he kill his parents?
I assume the older a pureblood, the more powerful they are. So how can he, by himself, kill his parents, both of whom are older and more powerful than him? I doubt his dad was a weakling because as former king of vampires, he should be quite powerful. In the light novel, it seems his parents were already wary of him and wanted to keep him away from Juri. Thus they wouldn’t completely let their guard down around him. And its not like Rido could carry around a hunter sword with him without it being noticed. Even if he was carrying something small like a dagger, his parents should have been able to overwhelm him in a fight since its 2 vs 1.
Kaname has commented that “purebloods have equal powers, so they would only exhaust each other in battle”; basically it is hard to kill another pureblood unless you have some advantage (e.g. Shizuka being already wounded by Zero’s hunter gun). So the only logical way Rido can kill his parents is if he catches them off guard, such as when they are taking a centuries long slumber in the family mausoleum, basically doing what Sara did to Hanadagi.
Thirdly, another point that makes no sense is that Rido in the light novel says:
“My parents had taken my precious Juri far away from me and made it so that we could never meet.”
How exactly did his parents take Juri away and stop them from ever meeting again? Send her abroad with no intention of ever letting her return? And yet the manga clearly contradicts that, because Rido is still in contact with Haruka and Juri, he was there to see their firstborn baby!
Fourthly, this is a small detail that has always irked me: In the manga, when Yuki’s brother peed on him, Rido mentions that he used to change his siblings’ diapers when they were babies.
Tumblr media
However the light novel kind of contradicts that, because young Rido upon being called in to meet his baby sister says: “I will confess that newborns seemed very uninteresting to me at that time”; does this sound like an older brother that would change his younger siblings’ diapers? It sounds like a guy who would leave baby care to the nannies and stay far away from soiled diapers.
Finally, we get to the biggest illogical point in the light novel: Rido was a psychopath that just randomly developed an obsession upon seeing the newborn Juri.
“ It was in that moment – somewhere in the depths of my being – something abruptly flared to life. […] I was overwhelmed by the urge to devour her.”
No normal person just out of the blue feels the urge to consume a baby, only crazy people do. The rest of the light novel story continues depicting Rido as a psychopath. Their parents notice there is something wrong with their son because the mom slaps Rido and starts to keep him away from Juri. Adding on to this portrayal of him as batshit crazy, after he (somehow) kills his parents, he says the following:
“That’s what you get for getting in my way, you naughty things…”
LOL, who in their right mind would call their parents “naughty things”?
My issue is this: I highly doubt Rido was crazy from the start, because it would make no sense. If Rido was crazy, how the hell could Juri and Haruka not have noticed for over 3000 years?! Even the dumbest person would get a clue that their brother was crazy after just 30 years, much less 3000 years. They trusted him enough to let him hold their baby, so they clearly believed Rido was not crazy. There is no way that Juri and Haruka were that stupid and blind. Thus, I doubt that Rido was crazy at the start of his life. So, this aspect of the light novel is just total BS to me.
IF Rido really was crazy from the start, then his mom and dad were bad parents. Yes, it makes sense to keep Juri away from Rido if he really were a psychopath, but their other actions were just extremely irresponsible and selfish. If you know your son is dangerous, maybe you should address this issue properly. After all, he is a pureblood and if you don’t deal with the problem, there will be huge repercussions for everyone given the destructive powers of purebloods.
But instead of taking their son to see a mental health professional like any decent parent would do, Papa and Mama Kuran decided to solve the problem by engaging him off to a “tiny child”. I’m no parenting expert, but I’m sure if your son has mental issues, you definitely should NOT marry him off to any girl. Even if they didn’t get him some help, they should have at least locked him up like Shizuka to ensure he didn’t harm anyone... but they just let him roam free.
If this is the extent of their problem-solving ability, then it’s for the best that they ended the monarchy because they must have been cruddy rulers. But who knows, I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe they believed the “tiny child” they chose for him has a PhD in psychology and can provide their son with the help he clearly needs. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Anyway, I consider the light novel to be only pseudo-canon since it was inspired by Hino but written by someone else (Ayuna Fujisaka), so I will just ignore the parts that don’t make sense and keep the parts that do.
                                                              XXX
This following section is what I believe Rido to have been like when he was a (sane) young man, based on the info in the manga and the few bits that do make sense in the light novel.
Since Rido was the oldest son and born in a time when the Kurans were still the ruling family, he probably grew up with a lot of pressure and expectations as he was the crown prince. Given these conditions, he was most likely serious and hardworking, doing his best to live up to those expectations and preparing to be the next king (kinda like Eins in The Royal Tutor LOL).
He was also probably a bit older than Haruka and Juri (because according to the manga he has experience changing their diapers and taking care of them). And since he was probably busy with his princely duties, he did not spend a bunch of time with his siblings and thus Haruka and Juri were naturally closer to one another than Juri was to him. She probably saw him a respected older brother but not as reachable and easy to connect to as Haruka.
Rido was probably arrogant, possessive, and entitled even at the start (though at much milder levels than towards the end), which makes sense given his background. Not only was he a pureblood, but the crown prince too. And since he was prince, he probably had to deal with the dog-eat-dog world of politics from a young age, so that probably made him more cynical and darker than his siblings who had much less pressure and responsibility. It would almost be shocking if he was a humble and kind person instead.
Anyway, according to the custom of primogeniture, both the throne and Juri should have been his. Since it was tradition of the Kurans to marry their siblings, it only makes sense that as the oldest son and legitimate heir, he was the one that Juri should have married. Yet for whatever reason, their dad decided to end the monarchy, which must have been a huge blow to Rido who spent his whole life preparing to be the next king. He probably drove himself to despair questioning why and if there was something wrong with him that his father would pull such a move.
Then Rido probably got another big slap to the face: Juri choosing to marry Haruka instead of him, with his parents probably giving them their blessings. So not only has he lost the throne, he also lost the fiancée that should have been his according to precedent. And Juri choosing Haruka probably made Rido lose face among their society, since people would naturally wonder why Juri spurned tradition and married the second son instead.
(Actually, it wouldn’t matter if the monarchy getting dissolved took place first or if Juri choosing Haruka took place first, the point is both happened and it screwed him up.)
Rido most likely didn’t love Juri, but simply believed he did. He probably conflated Juri with what he lost/ what should have been his by birthright and became unhealthily obsessed with the idea of her. It didn’t help that the one Juri chose was Haruka, who we know has a mild and kind personality. To someone like Rido, those are traits probably considered “weak”, and thus he probably never thought of Haruka as his rival. Therefore, the fact that he lost to Haruka of all people shocked him, and there might have been some anger and sorrow at being betrayed by a sibling. So anyway, Rido’s emotions as well as his ego got clobbered.
But fate is not done with him yet! His parents most likely decided to engage him to Shizuka “without his consent” around the time that Haruka and Juri got engaged/married. They might have rushed to engage him off to whoever was available at that time (unluckily for Shizuka it happened to be her), hoping to get him out of the way of his siblings’ happiness. Rido probably was pissed, since not only does he not get to choose his new fiancée, the one chosen for him hails from a clan with a history of supposedly going insane, instead of someone with a less problematic pedigree. His parents really doing him dirty lol.
I think he really had some deep-rooted problems with his parents. Sometimes parents just don’t like their child, because of personality and ideological differences…Anyway, they were definitely in a strained relationship which would explain why Rido could go so far to kill his own parents and feel no guilt over it.
                                                                XXX
Finally, towards the end of his life he really just lost it.
Rido probably tried to keep up appearances and act like everything is okay and that his world is not falling apart, thus allowing Juri and Haruka to still trust him. But over the years he just stewed in his anger against his parents, his siblings and the world in general and turned into a very bitter and hateful person on the inside. And although he probably tried to suppress his growing darkness, his bad traits got amped up while his better traits died. It was probably extremely infuriating for him to see his siblings so happy in their pink glittery world while he himself was drowning in darkness.

(Even Kaien was annoyed by Haruka and Juri’s “pink world”, imagine an already salty and bitter Rido seeing this type of scene for centuries and just frothing with rage on the inside LOL)
So Rido became a sadistic ass towards the end, taking his anger out on people that have nothing to do with it. He tried to make Shizuka miserable and force her to be docile and had no luck with that but succeeded in breaking Senri’s mom and driving the poor woman crazy. Though if you think about it, in a way he did succeed in breaking Shizuka too… he caused her lover’s death and when she lost her lover, she basically lost her will to live.
Hino showed how talented Rido is at antagonizing others. While he possessed Senri, he intentionally hurt Senri’s body to toy with Takuma.
Tumblr media
Even after his death, his dregs were tormenting Kaname by pointing out all his inner concerns, taunting Kaname about how he has no hope left.
Tumblr media
In VKM, Yuki mentions Rido as someone “with overwhelming desires that only plunge the world around [him] into misery.” Overall, Rido probably got his giggles by making others miserable.
Besides getting high off ruining the lives of other people, he was just a bastard in general. He used everyone around him as tools, even his own sons. Unlike Shizuka or Kaname, he did not care about his subordinates at all, to him they were just “appetizers” and expendables. He also had zero reservations about forcing lower vampires to submit to his will.
Anyway, Rido probably was already a bitter jackass but he really snapped when he found out Juri was pregnant and would start a happy little family with Haruka. Maybe he was idiotically holding onto hope that as long as Juri didn’t have a kid, he still had a chance? Regardless, it was at that point that he gave up any vestiges of humanity he had left and decided to just pursue power instead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With no hope left he just decided to give in to his primitive instincts and lust after power, at the expense of family ties. In a way, he might have felt betrayed by his family, and reasoned with himself that unlike the throne and Juri, at least power won’t be stolen away.
BTW, I think his decision to sacrifice Yuki’s real brother to ancestor Kaname was spontaneous and not premeditated. After all, crazy people are unlikely to plan things in advance and just do as their whims dictate...
Tumblr media
Maybe it came to him right when he stared at Juri holding her newborn.
“It’s such irony that this baby was named ‘Kaname’ like you. That’s what got me started thinking of this.”
Because his plan (if he had one) sucked. He should have known that the famished, revived ancestor would attack him, since the blood of a tiny baby was clearly not enough. And yet he made no preparations to fend off such an attack and ended up getting drained by Kaname.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As a side note, Haruka could have killed Rido right then, when Rido was badly wounded by ancestor Kaname.
Tumblr media
But he didn’t, and chose to have Rido imprisoned by the Senate instead. Haruka should have known that Rido would never give up on destroying his family as long as he lived, so the logical thing would have been to kill him. Even Rido mentions this later when he returned for Yuki.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While Haruka’s pacifist nature played a part in this, I think he also restrained himself from giving in to vengeful rage partly out of the fact that they are family, and more likely out of guilt. Perhaps Haruka had always felt guilty for marrying Juri and realized that he was partly responsible for driving Rido insane.
Anyway, Rido crossed the line by killing a helpless baby and basically burned all his bridges. At this point he didn’t really give any fucks anymore.
Asato mentions how Rido was like a child, even though he has lived so long. I think the analogy fits, because Rido acted like a child throwing a tantrum, trying to destroy everything and doing whatever he pleased with no regard for consequences or others.
In a sense, like Shizuka, Rido had already lost his will to go on living. The only thing keeping him hanging on was the need to lash out. Even though he acted like he was pursuing greater power, aiming to consume Kaname and Yuki to become more powerful, he wasn’t actually trying.
If he was serious, he would not have gotten easily distracted, suddenly deciding to have Yuki replace Juri instead of continuing with the plan to devour her. Rido also didn’t bother trying to fight seriously at the end and Zero comments on this.
Tumblr media
Otherwise Zero and Yuki together could not have beaten him, given how Rido is much older/powerful and consumed at least 2 other purebloods. Even Sara said that Rido was acting foolishly reckless, saying he was just having fun.
                                                             XXX
Overall, given this interpretation of Rido, I actually feel bad for him. I believe that he drove himself crazy wondering why his parents ended the monarchy instead of letting him be the next king, and wondering why Juri chose Haruka over him. Those questions probably haunted him for centuries.
Tumblr media
That feeling that you tried your best, did everything you were supposed to, but still ended up with nothing is something I can relate to. Sometimes one just wants to watch the world burn given how unjust life usually is (even though logically we know it is wrong to feel this way). So yeah, these are my headcanons and analysis of Rido, who I prefer to see as a deeper/more interesting character than just a sis-con psychopath LOL.

Here’s and example of my writing style/work!
•|Karma Akabane X Reader|•
{Tree Hugging}
-
-
[A/N: This is just an example of what I can write! Hope you enjoy!]
-
-
warnings: none
information: f/n: first name, n/n: nickname, l/n: last name, h/c: hair color, e/c: eye color
——————————————————————————3-E may seem like a normal class for the students who misbehave, and get bad grades. Underneath all that, it’s the complete opposite. 3-E was a class where the top priority was killing the teacher. Grades were a second priority to most of the students in 3-E.
In class, you sit next to your boyfriend, Karma Akabane. He wouldn’t tease you as much when you were in class, much less then what he does when the two of you are alone. He understands that you treasure your education, and respects that.
Currently, it was home room. Koro-sensei, your teacher/target, requested that for English, each of the students write a short romance story. Each individual student was to represent what love was to them in their story.
Students like Teraseka pretended that they didn’t feel ‘love’ or acted uninterested, saying that this assignment was bullshit. When in fact, they we’re VERY interested in the concept of love.
This also included your boyfriend. You on the other hand enjoyed watching shojou anime and reading romance novels/manga. On the other hand, you actually have written a romance novel of your own! Which you never let anybody see it because you were embarrassed.
-
-
p
While engrossed in writing your short story, you felt someone’s hand graze against your back. Startled, you look to your right to see your boyfriend smirking. You give him glare, then go back to your writing.
Trying to ignore him never works, you knew this all too well. You could feel his gaze staring at your face, you give him a glance only to see him pout. You sigh at his childish actions, ripping out of piece of paper from your notebook. You wrote, ‘What do you want?’ and slid it over to his desk.
You see him smile slightly as he responds to your inquiry. He passes the paper back to you, waiting in anticipation as you look at it. ‘Let’s ditch, I’m bored.’ He wrote in his rather neat handwriting.
You look at him, confused. He sighs as he softly grabs the paper from your grasp, his hands barely touching yours. He writes on the paper, his eyebrows furrowed for some reason.
He slides the paper back to you and he wrote, ‘Let’s go to the forest, our usual spot?’
You were suprised he asked you this time. He would normally grab your hand, gently of course, and take you to the forest himself.
You give him a gentle smile, oh how he loved that smile you had, and nodded. Karma grinned, “How about we go out after home room.” He whispered to you.
You almost fainted, for some reason everytime he whispers, it sounds so attractive. You nod again in agreement, trying to regain your composure from you slightly flustered state. You can’t wait until home room is over.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
“Alrighty class! That’s it for the home room period! You are free to do as you please for the next 5 minutes!” Koro-sensei announces, heading for his office.
You look at Karma clutching your notebook, giddy with excitement. Karma gives you a look of confirmation, then gently holds your hand, leading you out of the classroom.
The two of you were now outside, fingers intertwined, walking in the silent forest that was located in your class’ backyard. Never in a million years did Karma ever think he would experience something so peaceful. You were, in his eyes, a miracle. His sadistic nature was merely a barrier to keep people out. Although, he did enjoy giving people a taste of their own medicine.
When he first met you, you were shy and reserved. After you got to know him however.. He realized just how chaotic you are. You reminded him of a crack-head version of Nagisa. Soft on the outside, chaotic on the inside, the perfect girlfriend.
Right now, he was Cloud 9. Your soft hand intertwined with his semi-calloused hands. Your petite figure leaning on his figure as the two of you walked. You footsteps matched his footsteps, even if you were much shorter than him. Your other hand swaying back and forth as you walk, still keeping a grip on the notebook you brang.
He enjoyed every detail of your existence, even if it meant he would be low on snacks 24/7.
As he admired you, you both arrived at a small part deep in the forest. This is the place you two called your ‘usual spot’. Your ‘usual spot’ was a tree, right by the creek. There was a small circle of flowers that surrounded said tree, you would occasionally make a flower crown for Karma, but not to often so you wouldn’t hurt the environment. If you did do it, you would plant new flowers of the same breed.
To get to the spot, you had to cross the creek. Thankfully, there was a fallen tree that acted as a bridge. You gently let go of Karma’s hand and began to walk on the log. Behind you, Karma placed his hand on your waist to, ‘keep his balance’ as he says. You know he just wants affection, so you let him do whatever.
You happily hop off the log, grabbing Karma’s hand to ‘help him off’. As he gets off the log, you drag him towards the tree.
You point to the tree and command him, “Sit.”
“Excuse me?” He looks at you as if he saw a ghost.
“Sit down, please.” You beg.
He sighs, and reluctantly sit down as you told him to.
He sat in a criss-cross applesauce position, which was perfect for what you wanted to do. As he waits for you to do something, you walk over to him and sit in his lap. Suprised, a visible pink hue made its way to his face. Karma could feel the heat rising to his cheeks and asked, “What are you doing?!”
You grab his arm, holding it, “Cuddling you! What else, dummy.” You tease.
Karma definitely wasn’t used to this, whenever the two of you cuddle, he’s the one who initiates it. It was also embarrassing since the two of you were at school. This isn’t to say he wasn’t content with the position you two were in. The red-head smiled softly as he rested his head on your shoulder. You giggle at the feeling of his hair making contact with you bare neck.
You tilt you head so that it’s resting on Karma’s head, “I love you.” You mumble, your eyes getting heavier.
Karma chuckles at your charming state.
“I love you too.” Karma whispers softly, watching you fall asleep.
As the two of you fall asleep in each other’s arms, a certain teacher was spying on the both of you.
‘This is what I call material.’ Koro-sensei thinks. The yellow octopus lets out a soft laugh as he wiggles his way over to the two of you. He grabs a blanket from his pocket and lays it over the both of you. He sighs contently as he takes a picture, sending it to Mr. Karasuma and Irina, his fellow colleagues.
Wondering how mad Karma’s going to be when he wakes up, he quickly heads back to his class like nothing happened.
“Hello students! I am back! Let’s get started shall we?” He exclaims as a blue haired boy raises his hand.
“Um, Koro-sensei? Where are l/n and Karma?” The bluenette questions, worried about his friends.
“Oh nothing, don’t worry about it. Their just tree hugging, that’s all.”

Weird question and I promise that I’m not being discourse-y, but I saw that you called Eren Jäger “Baby” in your tags. Im kind of curious about how you see him as a character.
not weird at all! i am actually super excited to answer your question haha.
(preface: i just want to say firstly that i am not a manga-reader. i am only caught up to the most recent anime ep. so if there is even more problematic shit that eren does in the future, consider my opinions subject to change lol. my views on him have definitely been moving around since i last called him baby in the tags, and definitely since the siege on marley was put into context. in case you’re curious, see my other little answer to an anon regarding eren from jan 11!)
chaotic justice is probably my favourite type of character, so for better or for worse i think eren’s development is one to write down in the books. did i think he was justified for his ideals in the beginning? sure. do i think he is entirely justified now? maybe not. but to me it’s not about being justified or not. it’s about being interesting. when i see eren constantly being kicked while he’s down over the course of the show, it almost feels like it’s high time he start kicking back. i’ve always liked his character and rooted for him, and i honestly don’t think there is anything i would start to hate him for other than if he did something that i really didn’t think was in-character or if his line of logic didn’t make sense. but so far i think he's been pretty solid and understandable.
on a little more grander scale, i am rooting for eren specifically because he also happens to be the main character. as we see in season 4, gabi is literally the same type of character as eren. in every single way. but i find myself hating her specifically because she is the enemy. no other reason. i mean, sure, we didn’t get a lot of screentime with her. but that’s kind of the point. you root for people you like and wish for the demise of people you hate. why do you hate them? because they’re on the other side. that is the very simplistic conclusion that enlightened eren comes to. he has to abide by this principle because if he doesn’t, he will die. and his friends will die. and you may say “oh well maybe not, maybe eren could’ve just been peaceful or found another way.” and that may be. but really? in eren’s mind, that’s not reality. 99% of the scouting legion had their bodies rearranged. reiner and bert were his bros, and i don’t think i need to reiterate every event that has transpired. we all know eren has never known peace so why are we expecting peace from him now.
like i didn’t come to snk for a grand old time of people being nice to each other. i came here for the drama. eren is not entirely justified, but we were specifically asked in the beginning of the show if we were ok with a main character, as a 10 year old no less, murdering a bunch of guys. and you might say, sure, he did it in self-defence. but, i mean, he did it pretty evilly. that crazed look is not exactly the mark of a wholesome character. i really have to question some people who hate what eren has become, like they cannot separate their own ideals from him or they forgot that he has been repeatedly characterized as capable of hurting people whom he thinks are in the wrong. as if seasons 1-3 didn’t take so agonizingly long just to get back to BASELINE (plugging wall maria that was destroyed in ep 1) that anyone could become impatient and cynical and anxious that they are progressing too slowly while there are enemies out there literally waiting to kill them. season 4 just takes eren to his logical extreme. is genocide a bit excessive? could he have toned it down a bit? ehh, i mean at this point i almost feel like 5 or 10 or genocide is all the same.
the message is very clear: the cycle of destruction of enemies discriminating and hating and killing each other will continue. and it will continue until...? who knows? unlike a lot of other stories, eren is not the solution or the one that resolves everything -- he is merely a symptom. which i think is still very consistent with the way he’s been treated the whole show. he’s the main character but has always been in a helpless position. he can’t do something, something is happening to him, he is kidnapped for the hundredth time. the plot was driving him rather than him driving the plot. so at least now he has found a way to be the most in control he’s ever been. and yeah, i think that’s pretty badass. and yeah, unfortunately that is also in the form of genocide. but what can you do.

who are your favorite top ten black clover characters & ships? talk about them!
A question? For me? 🤭 Let’s see if I can collect my thoughts long enough to answer! I’ll put things in no real order under the cut~
Kaiser Granvorka, captain of the Purple Orcas (sing that title. You will not regret it.)
Tumblr media
Sometimes less is more. I love his design. I love his chill. I love his love of his wife. I love how he stepped up to clean up his trash squad.
Reve
Tumblr media
I LOVE the elves and I really wish that they would get some recognition. Did you know that Phantom Knights just calls Reve and Charla “Dorothy (reincarnated)” and “Charlotte (reincarnated)”? They’re different people!! They have NAMES. Why wouldn’t they use their names?? The elves have so much lost potential!
Anyway, Reve is also very chill. A sleepy queen. I have a LOT of headcanons about her. I also have an au where the elves stay after reincarnation and share their bodies with their hosts, and she and Dorothy are best friends and girlfriends and hang out in glamour world together and I love them.
Nebra and Nozel Silva
Tumblr media
Listen,,, she’s so pretty,,, I’m gay,,,
But in all seriousness, she’s my favorite Silva. She’s just sort of a mean, sexy lamp in the manga/anime, but she gets slightly more character development in Phantom Knights, where you see that she’s at least an honorable knight who really cares about getting things done right and even goes above and beyond the call of duty; she’s a lot more mature than Solid, and it even seems that she’s more concerned about capabilities than status at some points (much to Solid’s surprise.) That doesn’t mean she won’t go out of her way to make trouble, which is fun. The wiki also suggests she has confidence issues which is super interesting to me. I’d like to see her grow as a character or get like... even a little bit of attention at all besides backing up Nozel and Solid and getting stabbed. I also think her magic is really cool... would love to see her actually use it sometime.
-coughcough also since she gets so little screen time i can write her how i want in my fics and as far as we know it’s canon coughcough-
There’s more to her than her pretty, pretty face!! She’s probably my #1 favorite.
Tumblr media
1) I love powerful fictional royals in general. 2) I love to write fics where he is embarrassed and vulnerable. Silvas deserve a healthy dose of humility whenever you can give it. He is an easy target with his uptight nature and silly hair. I’d also like him to grow as a character.
hehe look at Nebra peeking out of the corner of this pic lol
Fuegoleon, Mereoleona, and Leopold Vermillion
Tumblr media
I am still a simp for powerful fictional royalty, okay? Everyone love the Vermillions. There is nothing I could say here that has not already been said, except that I love writing fics where Fuegoleon gets to be embarrassing and oblivious.
Dorothy Unsworth
Tumblr media
She’s so cute and the coolest witch. Love her chaotic energy. Love how she knows things she probably shouldn’t. Always shaking it up. Another sleepy queen. I wish I could sleep all the time and still get my work done. Also since I made her my icon on discord, I have been cheerier.
Charla
Tumblr media
I’m so deep in headcanons for this one but see my earlier elf complaint with Reve before continuing. Okay, understand? Charlotte is awesome, but the sheer hilarity of Charla and Charlotte sharing a body is what make Charla so, so good. The LAST thing Charla did before going away forever is SNITCH on Charlotte to her crush. This elf loves drama. She would help Charlotte so, so much, but also make her life a living hell. We stan a queen who can’t mind her own business.
Alecdora Sandler
Tumblr media
This man is hilarious. He’s a full grown man ready to throw hands with a 15 year old because William gives him attention. He fell in a hole and had to be saved. Yuno let him declare all his love for William and then obliterated him. It’s so funny. It’s what this asshole deserves. A perfect, satisfying character arc and a hilariously embarrassing personality wins him his place among my faves. I love to hate him so much. I’d like to put a picture of his stupid face in a locket to look at and give me strength in any situation. “At least I’m not this man child,” I would say. A smile would tug at my lips as a single tear ran down my face. “Thank you, Alecdora,” I would whisper, holding his image close to my heart.
---
My favorites tend to change around with my moods, so maybe on any other given day, you would find Charlotte Roselei, Paplo Espuma, or Kirsch Vermillion (post royal knights exam humbling) on this list. Charlotte is badass, Paplo cute, and Kirsch is funny with cool magic. Also working with Charlotte on my blog, @lawstaverse makes me fond of her, and I have some fun party boy headcanons for Kirsch and the Coral Peacocks. Mimosa Vermillion is also super duper cute. Honestly, Jien Du could even be on here for being accused of being evil and then going “let me clear things up” and then just doing the super villain laugh- also for having rainbow lights flashing around him when he fights. I can hear carameldansen playing in the distance whenever he’s doing stuff.
Now for my favorite couples!
Fuegoleon Vermillion x Nozel Silva
This one is probably #1! They obviously care for and respect each other and a lot of Nozel’s dialogue gets... debatably romantic. I just really enjoy writing them in sort of ‘boys will be boys’ situations, where they can let their guard down around each other and their friends and be stupid and silly. I also love the idea of Fuegoleon being oblivious about how flirty he comes off. Nozel is pining but more in an annoyed way than a sad way. “No homo, bro,” says Fuegoleon, as he kisses Nozel on the lips and gives him a ring after they eat together and wrestle in the woods. Nozel rolls his eyes into the next solar system and admires his new wedding ring. Currently working on a 150k+ word slowburn bisexual disaster Fuegoleon fic with @thespiralgrimoire that involves this ship and the third on this list, along with tiny snippets of others.
Leopold Vermillion x Asta
Leo saw Asta do something cool and said “I’m done being classist. Actually I’m in love with you,” and never looked back. Every single Royal in Asta’s age group being obsessed with him is very very funny. I picture their relationship is much like Nozel and Fuegoleon’s as described above, but they’re BOTH extremely oblivious bros being romantic bros.
Fuegoleon Vermillion x Nebra Silva
Less my fave but still on here bc it’s fun. Nebra is fun, she can push Fuego out of his comfort zone, and also feel comfortable and confident with him. It’s nice. Ngl, anything that gives Nebra a chance to develop her character, whether it be in a friendly or romantic setting, is good.
Nebra is sexy. Fuegoleon is sexy. Together they are super sexy.
Reve x Dorothy Unsworth
I mentioned this briefly earlier, but they finally get someone who can share their world with them! Dorothy was so happy to have Reve in her head, and didn’t even regret being possessed at all. Also, Reve’s chill personality can balance out Dorothy’s excitable and unpredictable one! I think that them both being in dream world, with the magic power to look into each other’s minds(even more than other elf/human cohabitants) means that they can pretty easily become super duper close. They also have a space where they can physically meet. It’s kind of the best of both worlds.
Zara Ideale x Ina’s Father (did he really not get a name???)
There is no way you can convince me that Ina is not Zara and that man’s child. Look at their eyebrows. Rewatch episode 138. You’re lying to me if you tell me you don’t see it.
Nebra Silva x Zora Ideale
🤷🏽‍♀️ Punk and Prep is a fun combo, I like pitch romance, and the more info we get for Nebra, the more likely I see her willing to go vigilante and have a good time working with/ playing around with Zora. They both like to mess with people, Nebra appreciates a job well done, and Zora likes seeing people improve themselves. Nebra would def need to develop a bit for this to work, but I like to believe that would happen.

HELLO YES CAN WE TALK ABOUT THAT ADORABLE CARRY AND HOW THEY DIDNT REALIZE HE WAS STILL HOLDING HER AT FIRST PLS AND THANMK
Ah yes. So like, fun fact: this chapter also turned out really different from its outline. Well. Everything but the last scene turned out really different. But I have fun stuff about that and pretty much everything else so...another outline comparison?
Obviously spoilers for chapter 21 of DoJ under the cut
Back to Ochako’s pov
This should start up incredibly chaotic. The sound of screams, being bumped into from people scurrying either to or from the where the flames are congregated. Ochako’s nose is burning from the smoke, and she has to cough to even take a deeper breath in.
Details are hard lol! I tried writing down notable sensory details to get me going but it still took ages to write the first page or so. Finding ways to word the images in my head and have them come across so hectic was really hard for me 😩
There’s a question of what they should do when Deku’s phone rings. It’s Todoroki. Ochako stands close to Deku’s side to try and listen but she can barely make anything out with all the commotion going on. She almost contemplates asking for speaker but, all things considered, that obviously wouldn’t fare any better. Deku mostly just seems to be agreeing and listening until he finally says that they’ll do their best and hangs up. Todoroki said that Iida had called Aizawa immediately. They were closer to the havoc and they’re helping lead the effort to get civilians to safety and any possible need for triage. Luckily a decent number of the class was already nearby so some are fending them off and other are helping with the effort to grab civilians.
So as you can see here things............deviated. A lot. I had a really hard time actually planning out how this chapter was gonna go and I pretty much wrote up this part of the outline going “okay this is probably gonna change but these are the basics. The basics I have to get across.
So as you can see, originally I thought of having izuocha like....idk too far away? Too in shock? To jump to action. Which was, honestly, very dumb on past me’s part but they were quick to say “fuck you we’re helping” like of course.
They wanted to rush over to deal with the trees and help but I was standing there like these guys are so far away how tf is this gonna work. And that’s when it was like “omg, bridal carry.”
I think I had to break from writing after deciding that though. And I was telling my little sister about it while we were in the car. And we kind of mutually came up with the scene. We played around with the scenario a little bit, and it was originally a jokey thing. But after we talked about it, and she agreed (as a Tododeku shipper) that she thought it flowed well and made sense, I decided to include it. It was so vivid though we could both imagine as a scene in the manga so a day or two later I decided I had to commission it.
I’ll be forever grateful that @jellojolteon was up for the task and did it so so wonderfully. 💖💖💖
We also were joking around about the Momo thing and after telling @savetheirhearts-midoriya about it but saying I thought it was too goofy to include, she told me I had to include it. And who was I to refuse? Lmao
Looking back on this though idk how I thought that that it was gonna be chaos but still chill enough to be able to have a phone call smh. Luckily I’m not super strict on my outline being the end all be all lmao
I definitely like the way it turned out a lot better though. Did a good job with showing the class’s self reliance. Especially considering they’re in third year now. It shows off that they have this kind of thing down pat now. Kinda like how the Big Three came off in canon.
They decide they should try to tell other civilians where to go (maybe check how long the street usually is in Kanagawa for the festival) in the midst of that, they see Toogata and Amajiki with Eri. They explain they were with Aizawa but he felt it might be best if they go to safety with the others. They didn’t want to leave Toogata and Eri alone but Amajiki will go back into the fray once he’s guaranteed they’ve made it safely. They explain where to find Aizawa and they take off.
Maybe include a conversation with Ochako saying that, all things considered, at least this attack is happening where a handful of pros and a majority of the 3rd year hero course were out tonight. Deku wonders if that’s really much of a relief. “Was it just a coincidence or…?”
Ochako blinks in surprise, about to stew on that thought a little more when there’s a scream just up ahead. A little further ahead, there’s two girls, twins from the look of it. One is on the ground, unconscious and disheveled as well as a bloodied arm.
ooooooh right, again, more differences here. I never altered the fact that I changed the setting in my outline LOL. Mostly because I knew and it seemed pointless to change something so small when I already know lol. I wanted to include Eri a little here but when I thought about it it just felt like it would slow down the pace of the scene. And it just felt too....pushy? Idk something about it just felt off. So I decided to cut it. I also changed where Aizawa came into play but I’ll get to that in a few lol.
Second and third paragraphs though are the same. I knew I wanted to highlight the fact that is was very likely targeted.
Aizawa arrives right as they do and they ask what happened. The sister explains that they were wandering around the festival looking for her boyfriend who was further down. She started to go off ahead, but some crazy girl popped out of the alley and attacked her sister. She ran off before the twin could come back over. She tried to stem the bleeding but--
Ochako says they’ll take it from here as she goes to join the girl on the side with the bleeding arm. She says that she feels bad doing this since Inko worked so hard but she tears off some of the bottom of her yukata, to wrap the wound.
Alright so, I changed where Aizawa came in mostly because I felt like, upon, writing it, he would be coming from further into the festival than they were. And they’re up toward to front, so it only made sense to have him show up late....not to mention that he might notice that the girl (Toga) was acting a little off. So I had to limit his exposure LOL
The story was pretty much the same and, real talk, I wanted an excuse to free up Ochako’s movement since a yukata is a little limiting. But I definitely wanted to feel the ache that came with messing up something that we spent so much time waiting for. I went ahead and added some details about Toga looking a little too long before this next part just to drive home that something really doesn’t feel right about this girl...
The twin watches her, seemingly entranced, an unblinking expression on her face. “You really know what you’re doing, don’t you?”
“Oh well, I’m a hero in training!” Ochako’s a little embarrassed. “It’s all in the job.”
“We should get both of you over to triage,” Deku notes, looking toward Aizawa. This seems to snatch the other girl’s attention from Ochako’s deftly moving hands. “They can help check on her properly there.” The sister suddenly jumps to her feet, suddenly remembering her boyfriend’s further ahead and alone. She has to go find him and takes off
“Ah wait!! Eraserhead, Uraraka-san, I’ll go make sure she’ll make it okay, be right back!” He takes off too.
Pretty much the same, as far as what’s conveyed, I think. Especially highlighting that something’s wrong with this twin and that Ochako’s uncomfortable. Though, here I didn’t spell out the latter as clearly as I felt it during outlining.
Main difference is who’s saying what and--again, tbh I like how the final result came out better. Toga pretty much dips as soon as Aizawa shows up. Because 1) Aizawa’s caught her in the act before (during Overhaul arc with Rock Lock) and 2) his quirk immediately takes off hers. So she knew she had to get out ASAP once she saw who it was. I also changed Deku’s “be right back” because what the point of coming back if they’re taking the passed out one to where triage is? Dumb lol
Ochako wonders if she should maybe use her Quirk on the woman to help make it quicker for them to transport her. Aizawa says he’s not sure that’s necessary. He doesn’t want to send her or Midoriya off alone because it sounds like a lot more of the League than what they’ve actually seen. And...yeah, it’s awfully weird that they haven’t really seen a lot of them. Did they really concentrate their attack closer to the entrance? But then there’s the person who attacked this woman--
Her thought is cut off when Aizawa continues, “And if I go to take her, you won’t know when to release your Quirk. It’s probably better not to”
The first part of this is confusing--likely because originally I planned on Deku coming back but once I realized that was a little futile I had to rephrase how this was worded lol. But no matter what I didn’t want anyone to think too hard about who was doing the attacking yet (I figured people would get it by then but I still wanted to keep it low profile).
The girl between them suddenly wakes up, startled, and they assure her that they’re heroes on the scene. “It seems you were attacked and passed out from the fall or possibly received a blow to the head.”
“And you guys got rid of her?”
“No, the villain seemed to take off when your sister came over to help.”
“What? But--”
“Oh, don’t worry, she’s okay! She went to go find her boyfriend but she and our friend’ll be--”
“No, that’s.” She looks between them seemingly more dazed and confused. “I don’t have a sister.”
Aizawa says that she received a blow to the head. It’s possible that she has a concussion and she’s a little confused. “No, I’m telling you I don’t have a sister!”
“I’m an only child, and I came here alone!”
This whole exchange was more or less the same. To be honest, most of this last scene is lmao. This scene (unlike the rest of the chapter outline) was super vivid when I planned it out and whenever scenes are vivid, they almost always play out exactly the same as my outline lol
That said, chapter 22 is incredibly vivid so. Prepare yourself 👀👀👀👀👀
“But she looked just like you…” Twins. A crazy girl. She happened to be unconscious and...had a blood wound. Just like her.
She pales. No way. She doesn’t want to believe it. Not even a little. But her body moves before she can think, taking off with no heed to Aizawa calling after her.
Deku-kun!!
This was, again, near exactly the same because it was such a vivid image in the planning stage that it carried over well into actual writing. For a little bit I debated whether I should actually name drop Toga but ultimately I was like “the readers are smart, I don’t have to hold their hand about it!” So I trusted yall to put two and two together lol
But yeah, that about sums it up!! The notorious scene actually only happened because of Izuocha wanting to help and me and my Tododeku shipper sister sitting in the car in the BK drive thru if I’m not mistaken lmfao

Good Stuff's Best of 2019
WARNING: Just wanted to say cheers to you for making it through another year. I send you best wishes for next year to be fruitful. Thank you, take care out there, and enjoy. (Best of 2017) (Best of 2018)
Dedicated to Russi Taylor, John Witherspoon, Rip Torn, Tartar Sauce, Caroll Spinney, Peter Matthews, and the many of KyoAni lost in the arson incident. You all did wonderful; rest in peace.
Welp, I figured the last year of this decade would be the most chaotic one by far, then again everything peak after 2012. As for now, I am counting down the best cartoons/animations/comics I’ve seen and loved this year in no particular order other than #1. Same rules apply: No sneak previews of future projects, no repeats, and this time anything goes.
Runner Ups: Superman Smashes the Klan, Marvel’s Aero, Infinity Train, Enter the Florpus, Amphibia, Mao Mao: Heroes of Pure Heart, Helluva Boss, Meta Runner, Lego Movie 2, Forky Asks a Question
Anyways, Badda boom bang whiz, let’s do this shizz...
10. Super Mario Bros GT
Tumblr media
Nostalgia can be quite a mystery, especially one that can come out of nowhere. Super Mario Bros Z kicked so much ass as a kid that now, it still frustrates me to this that it got a cease & desist from Nintendo, even the reboot from the same person couldn’t last long. But the gods have offered a slight miracle in the form of this new spiritual successor that has heart and soul put into every pixelated frame. There is much to celebrate with Youtube animation, where many say it’s dying due to the algorithm and all of the site’s corporate bullshit, but it’s stuff like this which helps me understand why we should celebrate. Against all odds, channels like Smasher Block willfully put their works out their for the people and continues to because on top of getting a little dough, it’s what they want to do.
9. DC SUPER HERO GIRLS (2019)
Tumblr media
Awwwwww yeah, this is She-Ra and the Princesses of Power done right. Diverse female squad, each given a quality screen time to truly shine (Beecher especially) on their which makes the episodes where they’re all together feel earned and joyous to watch. Certainly reminds me of Friendship is Magic, which is coincidental since they were created by the same woman. I’d like to think this and MLP G4 were the answers to Faust’s cancelled project Milky Way and the Galaxy Girls where multiple personalities collide to one extraordinary superhero team of girls capable great feats that are lifted from their insecurities or drawbacks. And on top of this being a fun series to kick back to all around, it’s a comforting, somewhat aspiring thought to consider.
8. JOKER
Tumblr media
I am somebody that rarely goes to the theaters to watch a film; you have to hook my tight just for me to even think of buying a ticket, no less plan to. But honestly, Joker was worth the hype, the ticket, and the fact that it wasn’t the incel uprising that buttfuck normies tried to make it out as. It’s lower on the list because in thought, there definitely could’ve been some tweaks to the dialogue and a couple scenes that I felt didn’t work in the long run. But really, this movie to me worked because of the escalation that leads to a cathartic climax and ending that left me in actual tears. I don’t give a shit if it “doesn’t fit”, having Frank Sinatra sing the film's credits put me in shambles. Joaquin Phoenix was phenomenal as Arthur, and this movie felt authentic in its many details. This is definitely up there with my favorite comic book films of all time. Good thing, too, Spider-Man was taking up most of that shelf.
7. TUCA & BERTIE
Tumblr media
This series being what I can’t help but say is a spin-off to Bojack Horseman, a show I respect, was enough to pull me into watching it. But it being like Bojack where it’s tight-roping between a bouncy comedy and a grounded drama was what kept me around for more. It is a damn shame this was cancelled after one season (while 13 Reasons Why gets FOUR seasons like what the fuck), because while this did feel enough like a complete series, I was certainly interested for more because I really enjoyed it all. I have my issue with a couple choices in the show, but I am sure this series would’ve addressed them later down the line. I can see why some women would find this personally endearing, it felt like the personal stories of actual people, and it deserved better. Either way, I enjoyed this series and I recommend it just as much as Bojack.
6. PRIMAL
Tumblr media
Genndy Tartakovsky is that kind of cartoon creator where you feel he’ll go beyond if you give him the right amount of space. He’s not a perfectionist like John “Dirty Diddler” Kricfalusi, but with things like Hotel Transylvania and Samurai Jack, he certainly has proven to have the range in animation where you know how he plays. Primal showcasing his noted skill in dialogue-less storytelling and dynamic action scenes, able to convey everything clear with its ruthless yet careful protagonist and his dinosaur friend, all on top of the most luscious backgrounds. This is a series that definitely feels like Genndy’s taken what he’s used from his previous works and putting it together for a brutal yet passionate look at the prehistoric life. He truly brought us an adult series to enjoy and to look forward to more in the coming year.
5. SPINEL
Tumblr media
Bet you didn’t expect a character to be on this list, eh? Spinel is the best thing to come out of Steven Universe in general; makes me wish she was in a better movie. The crew certainly did their darndest to make her not only an enjoyable and connectable character through and through, but a very versatile character that the fandom could take in any which way. Call it corny, but Spinel perfectly represents SU as a whole: a lovable goof that can certainly mean business but deep down is deserved of a hug because of what she’s gone through. Wish she had a more satisfying resolution in her respective debut, but really it’s the balance between those three elements mentioned that makes Spinel almost eternally wonderful.
4. MOB PSYCHO 100 II
Tumblr media
As someone that doesn’t like reading, I’m a firm believer that the best animations or visual medias elevate the writing to a memorable degree; the visuals hook to the point where you want to think about what you saw and how it was conveyed. Mob Psycho 100, for two seasons now, does this in spades where Studio Bones throw them bones in animating one of the most dynamic animes of the modern era, providing the writing and characters a proper chance to flex its muscles. The characters are especially what makes this and MP100 as a whole work so well, the story being about a boy learning to be more sociable as well as emotionally stronger all while helping others understand maturity and empathy. For more on this, I recommend Hiding in Public’s video(s) on Mob. But with the animation, Bones was able to provide a sense of impact and immersion to the moments that matter, not making it an overstimulating mess, and putting some respect on ONE’s webcomic art style.
3. KLAUS
Tumblr media
Hands down, this is a great Christmas movie. Take away the animation and you have a charming, wanna say ground and authentic, story about the makings of Santa Claus. With memorable and likable characters, a nice escalation in terms of the plot, and moments that are/can be so satisfying, they can bring you to tears. A couple overdone tropes in the road that doesn’t make this the most perfected story, but those sincerely minor compared to everything else that makes this story the best. Now. Add in the animation, and you have a gold, nay a platinum animated story of the year where the visuals definitely enhance the story to a degree where they’re undoubtedly inseparable. The visuals alone is enough to check this movie out and it’s eye-opening when you learn of how it’s all done. Klaus is a film that did it’s job and then some, and I hope this will be well remembered as a classic holiday film for it deserves that status.
2. BEASTARS
Tumblr media
I’ll be fair, I’m mostly referring to the manga and not the anime but since the anime premiered this fall, it counts. Because be it the anime or the series overall, Beastars has such well intricate world building all while offering a little something for everyone (violence, romance, slice of life). The story is well paced and even when we aren’t focusing on the main characters momentarily, Itagaki is surprisingly able to make every supporting/side character we come across memorable in their own way; like I said before, the city is much a character in this story. Oh yeah, and the mangaka is the daughter of Keisuke “Grappler Baki” Itagaki, that in itself is a treasuring bit of trivia for this. Everything about Beastars is enticing and Studio Orange certainly helped in giving this series more of a following.
1. GREEN EGGS & HAM
Tumblr media
Well, well, well. Guess Netflix is three for three in terms of bringing its best foot forward among its few steps back each year. The best term to describe this series is surprising. Surprising that this is a Dr. Seuss story that got expanded a 13 episode series, that has fleshed out characters, fun hijinks, an easy story, lovely emotional, more quieter moments... on top of being 2D hand drawn animated. I mean, what else is there to say? Green Eggs and Ham is to Dr. Seuss what Seven was for Final Fantasy, what Friendship is Magic was for MLP, what watermelon was before a nice menthol cigarette. This definitely took the top spot because to me, it was able to bring many good elements from the previous entries and knot it all together into a well kept bow that I never knew I wanted until now. I’m genuinely glad this show got to exist the way it is and I am hoping, praying, that the second season keeps that momentum up.
That leads us to the actual number one which is
1. STEVEN UNIVERSE FUT-
Tumblr media
Total Dramarama is now the two time World Heavyweight Champion, babey. Will 2020 give us a quality contender? Will the streak last another year?
Stay tuned, and always seek out the Good Stuff.

Bookshelf Briefs 2/16/20
Black Clover, Vol. 19 | By Yuki Tabata | Viz Media – The nature of these volumes is they tend to be between 9-11 chapters no matter what, and while some thought is always given for an appropriate “cliffhanger” (and there’s a good one here), it does sometimes mean that the emotional beat can happen earlier than the author might like. That’s definitely the case here—this book is front-loaded as hell, with the absolute highlight being Noelle reuniting with her family, kicking ass, and her older brother apologizing for the constant abuse he hurled at her. It’s really fantastic. The rest of the book can’t help but feel like an anticlimax, though there is a nice bit at the end where Asta and company make a chaotic entrance to join in the fight. Which isn’t over yet, so next time? – Sean Gaffney
Horimiya, Vol. 13 | By Hero and Daisuke Hagiwara | Yen Press – This manga has too many cast members in it we have to remember, especially given that it only comes out now about once every six months or so. We see Iura dealing with his younger sister, who is having exam worries, and it’s meant to contrast to his “the guy nobody likes” persona at school, but I can’t really retain enough about what he was like for it to really impact. One good thing about this volume is that Hori is relatively behaved, so there’s a lot less of the “wacky” consent issues we saw in prior volumes. When she acts relatively normal, she and Miyamura remind you why we loved this manga in the first place. That said, it really does not appear to be headed towards any specific conclusion. How long will it go on? – Sean Gaffney
Levius/est, Vol. 1 | By Haruhisa Nakata | Viz Media – I probably should have read the Levius omnibus before picking up Levius/est. As far as I can tell, the first volume is mostly a recap of the original series told at an astonishingly breakneck speed. (Levius ended prematurely when Ikki ceased publication; Nakahata essentially had to restart the series in a new magazine, Ultra Jump.) It’s admittedly impressive how much ground Nakata manages to cover in such a short span, but I’m hoping that Levius/est finds a more sustainable and enjoyable pace soon. I want to see the mixed martial arts matches between cyborgs that will either save or destroy the world. I want a chance to actually get to know the characters beyond a surface-level lightning overview of their tragic backstories. I want the worldbuilding to not need to rely on heavy-handed exposition. Right now, Levius/est‘s greatest strength is Nakata’s stylish artwork, but something more would be welcomed. – Ash Brown
Magus of the Library, Vol. 2 | By Mitsu Izumi | Kodansha Comics – Having enjoyed the first volume of Magus of the Library, I was looking forward to the second, even if the series is not always the most subtle of works narratively speaking. But I can’t help but love the underlying message of libraries (reading in generally, really) as a method of gaining knowledge, expanding one’s horizons, and developing empathy for others. At the same time, the work acknowledges the potential harm the written word can cause depending on its use. As a librarian, I can especially appreciate Izumi incorporating real-world social, economic, and political concerns surrounding libraries (fairly accurately, actually, although with simplification) into the fantasy setting of Magus of the Library. Other related areas the second volume of the series specifically addresses include bookselling and bookbinding. The volume also serves as something like a travelogue and introduces new characters destined, I’m sure, to become Theo’s cohorts in training at the Central Library. – Ash Brown
Murcielago, Vol. 13 | By Yoshimurakana | Yen Press – OK, the master swordsman arc did not finish off quite as fast as I’d hoped, but that’s fine, as it gives us a chance to see Kuroko in action some more (and still really struggling, which is cool), as well as Himiko’s dynamic entrance in her car, always a treat. After that’s resolved, we start a sequel arc, as Goldmarie’s body is not lying mouldering in the grave as it should be, but has gone missing. And now there’s a bunch of murders happening in and around the sewers, which gives the artist another chance to lovingly depict a lot of corpses and gore. Murcielago is never going to be children’s entertainment, but it’s a lot of fun provided ultraviolent lesbians are your bag. – Sean Gaffney
My Hero Academia, Vol. 23 | By Kohei Horikoshi | Viz Media – So Izuku has multiple powers now. That said, he’s still having trouble learni8ng about them at all, so has to finish the fight quirkless. Honestly, Uraraka is the MVP of this battle, and there’s some nice ship tease with her and Izuku as my reward. After that, we switch over to the dark side of the cast—it even gets pointed out, with one chapter being called “My Villain Academia,” and a heavier focus on the League of Villains, who are falling on hard times at the moment. Things are not helped by a new, more corporate set of villains trying to get their foot in the door, and the volume ends with a confrontation. This has become one of the biggest Jump series, and it’s well deserved. – Sean Gaffney
My Hero Academia, Vol. 23 | By Kohei Horikoshi | VIZ Media – There is so much going on in this volume. As the battle training with class B comes to a close, Midoriya learns that he will eventually inherit six additional quirks from past wielders of One for All and Shinso gets to use his power to save someone and earns admission into the hero course. Mina gets a couple of badass panels while Uraraka gets several (as well as a rare smile from Aizawa). I love how much Aizawa has taken Shinso under his wing as well as a glimpse and a reference to someone he and Mic knew when they were students, a boy called Shirakumo. We also meet the Meta Liberation Army, who are determined to take down the League of Villains. Todoroki and Bakugo get their provisional hero licenses and we learn a little of Shigaraki’s backstory. Phew! I love this series so much. – Michelle Smith
My Hero Academia: Smash!!, Vol. 3 | By Hirofumi Neda| Viz Media – Again, I like how this gag series is handled. It’s character-based exaggeration, but it also follows the main storyline for the most part, so it can use multiple modes of humor. It’s also not above pointing out its own flaws—when Momo is lacking confidence, Eraserhead tells her to spend a week living with Uraraka, and the latter is quick to point out that “my poverty being of service to you” is offensive. Of course, the series is also not above mocking her love of rich person’s food over and over again, so. We even get a good look at the league of villains here, and they’re just as goofy. This is still a lot of fun. – Sean Gaffney
The Quintessential Quintuplets, Vol. 7 | By Negi Haruba | Kodansha Comics – Somehow I missed reviewing the sixth volume of this series, and it’s a shame, as the seventh book is fantastic, possibly the highlight of the series in general. After spending about half of it leading up to the exams, and reminding us what’s at stake, we see the girls taking them one by one, each flashing back to their own issues and challenges—the biggest of which may be Yotsuba’s, as she reveals she’s the one who failed the makeup exam at their old school, and the others left with her in solidarity. The results are brought off perfectly, but Nino is saved for last, and she’s the one who gets the best part, right at the end. Still one of the best romantic comedy manga we’ve seen in some time. – Sean Gaffney
The Way of the Househusband, Vol. 2 | By Kousuke Oono | Viz Media – There’s not really much here in plot or characterization beyond the surface. But when the surface is this, you absolutely don’t care. Househusband is all about style, and in that the book succeeds dramatically. I liked that it featured his wife a bit more in the various chapters, and you can see why he loves her. Everyone keeps mistaking him for doing horrible yakuza deals, even when he’s pushing spices for birthday parties. That said, you really can’t blame them given he’s also pushing his yakuza thoughts into his everyday life, such as the yoga poses, which was absolutely hilarious. We also meet his wife’s family, and their desperate attempts at bonding, which they do after a fashion. This is a whole lot of fun. – Sean Gaffney
Yona of the Dawn, Vol. 22 | By Mizuho Kusanagi | VIZ Media – This volume begins with the aftermath of the adventure in Sei, with Lady Riri dealing with the gratitude of her people, which she doesn’t feel she’s earned; Hak reflecting on adolescent memories of Su-Won, whose ability to see the world impartially means he has no special attachment to anyone; and the Four Dragons working to get back a hairpin for Yona that Su-Won gave her. Then we’re off to another adventure in a foreign land. One of the princesses of Xing is sure they’re Kohka’s next target for expansion and proposes war while her younger sister proposes preemptive surrender in order to save lives. Would-be assassins raid the latter’s compound, where there are a couple of badass fighters and lots of kitties. It’s very much a transitional volume, but still quite good. I’m always bummed whenever I run out of Yona to read. = Michelle Smith

What do you think would have become of the world if Light hadn't died and had continued being Kira? It surely couldn't have become the utopia he thought he could build. What kind of society would it be if Kira actually was the supreme law?
That’s a very interesting question.
The thing is, Death Note hardly dove into the political aspects of would happen if an anonymous person (or people) would aim to be the new world leader, at least regarding criminal law. So I don’t think what happened was all that realistic in the first place, because I believe it would be at least more chaotic. A weapon/power like Kira’s would be of interest for a lot of people and organisations. (A bit like chemical weapons are more of a political issue than one of criminal justice.) (Not to mention that prison systems serve an economical purpose for certain countries as well…) (And also, we know how people are about traditions…)
I have a hard time seeing, for example, secret services basically just accepting Kira’s reign. Light most likely wouldn’t have to just or mainly deal with a few private detectives, the Japanese police, the FBI and some underground crooks.
Some of the people who wouldn’t want to let have Kira free reign, wouldn’t necessarily care about how he managed to lessen the global crime rate or how he managed to bring an end to all wars. And I’m very much convinced that these people would getreal creative when it comes to how to avoid getting killed by Kira, who needs a name and face to kill.
But even ignoring all this and just looking at how DN is written makes me think Light would have had a hard time keeping his utopia for long. People in general just don’t agree with each other on, well, anything really. I imagine there would always be some kind of resistance at the very least, and Light isn’t theonly creative and smart person even in his world.
Anyway, I think he would try build some kind of network of people he can trust (in the sense that he knows they all want the same thing) and opportunists with no reasons to go against him, a bit like what we saw towards the end of the manga but more organised. The media would definitely be a very important instrument to have under his complete control, same goes for the police, military (ha, I would love to know how he would handle the military) and education system.
And with enough support, I think he would try to implement systems and laws that would make it even easier for him to find out people’s names and faces. Cameras and the internet would be his best friends here. Governmental surveillance would most likely increase.
(But see, this is why I have such a hard time seeing Light succeed, haha. Yes, a lot of people already accepted him and he’s relatively good at finding people who indeed support him, but building a reliable system of supporters would be a difficult feat to accomplish for just your own country. But the entire world?
And what would happen after his death? Yep, I don’t think this would go well for too long.)
About how this would shape society: seeing how war is a thing of the past in DN, and how it’s now way less likely to become a victim of a crime, I can see why lots of people would support him. Many of his supporters would just or mostly profit from his reign, but that doesn’t take people into account who suffer for other reasons than what we officially consider crime. Statistically, things like poverty are among the main reasons for increased crime rates (and misery). Just not doing crimes obviously doesn’t translate to a happy society. Besides, I’m sure people would risk getting killed by Kira if they had to choose between a likely death (Kira) and a guaranteed death (starving), when it comes to crimes such as illegally obtaining food or medicine.
Light would have to quickly learn a thing or two about the unfair distribution of food and health care in general if he really wants to be a just God, haha. (Speaking of, I understand why they didn’t include this aspect, but religious and spiritual leaders would be people Light would have to converse with as well.)
I personally always thought a society under Kira’s control would look, on the surface, a lot more controlled, proper & “clean”, but with a lot of covert resistance that would most likely increase over time. There’s more to consider, but the gist of it is that I don’t see it going smoothly forever.

SV ch.59
i am finally finding a bit of time to sit in front of my pc and read this freaking chpater, you’ve been teasing me, but i’m ready now sovjoirjgw
After a pause, he continued, “Those two people from just then aren’t easy to deal with. Even if Shizun doesn’t want to stay at my place, I still hope that you will not go with them.”
i love when lbh tries to act cool but the only thing his mind thinks about is protect shizun protect shizunifjirjfisdofw
EDIT: sooooooooo... lbh doesn’t know that’s his father? wow okay
EDIT 2: okay okay wait my heart toppled over in, like, five lines!!!! shizun is feeling feelings for lbh that make him wanna help, so he tries, but light goes out and lbh just crashed over him IS THIS A SHOUJO MANGA? lbh you are too much for my little maiden heart to handle
EDIT 3: i’ve been thinking about it and i was rightx that rain was toxic!!! and lbh PROTECTED HIS SHIZUN WITH HIS BODY!!!!! THIS IS MORE THAN LOVE, THIS IS PURE DEVOTION, OMGGGGGGG, NOW SHIZUN’S HEART RESEMBLES THAT OF A MAIDEN, BAAAAAAABE
EDIT 4:
Shen Qingqiu reached out a hand and touched him. His forehead and cheeks were both scalding hot like he had a fever. But there was no way that the concept of a ‘fever’ would exist in Luo Binghe’s body.
SHIZUN IS TOUCHING IS FACE. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
also, A FEVER??? WHAT HAPPENED TO MY BABY?
EDIT 5: shizun is touching lbh all over soijvsopkefpowfk
Shen Qingqiu placed a hand behind Luo Binghe’s head and massaged the area that had just knocked against the wall.
“Binghe, can you hear me?”
THIS IS SO SOFT OMG i need them cuddling together snfowjef
EDIT 6: shizun thinking about how many hardships lbh suffered to get there and my heart just warms in front of it ‘cause really, i love lbh so much i can’t even begin to cry, i just hug myself and pray for a lbh in my life-
EDIT 7: SHIZUN FIGHTS AND PROTECT LBH AT THE SAME TIME
*breathes in, breathes out*
i feel like... like he sees him a bit like his disciple again, it makes me feel so freaking emotional omg.
EDIT 8:
He originally wanted to stuff Luo Binghe inside a different coffin, but he didn’t have time for that anymore. Hugging Luo Binghe tightly, Shen Qingqiu flipped the two of them over and they tumbled simultaneously into a stone coffin.
(I AM SORRY WHAT
THEY ARE LAYING IN A COFFIN TOGETHER?!?!? SQQ IS H U G G I N G LBH GUYS OKAY I NOW IT’S FOR PRACTICAL PURPOSE BUT THEY ARE HUGGINGGGGGGGGG
IS THIS MXTX’S IDEA OF A ROMATIC TIME??? WHAT’S NEXT, A DATE IN A GRAVEYARD?!?!?!? BLESS THIS I AM IN LOVE)
Luo Binghe was on top, Shen Qingqiu on the bottom.
(ptf. as if we needed you to confirm that, shizun-)
EDIT 9:
Shen Qingqiu remained calm, lying on his back. Luo Binghe pressed down on top of him, face-down, his head buried in the hollow of Shen Qingqiu’s shoulder. The heat spread onto Shen Qingqiu’s neck, so hot that it was uncomfortable. Even he felt uncomfortable, so Luo Binghe must naturally be even more uncomfortable.
i mean, i know. okay? i know. they are running away from strange candle-like things and hiding in a coffin and there is no need to get all excited because LBH IS LAYING ON TOP OF SHIZUN OMFG OMG OMG yup, no need whatsoever to become so giddy and happy and laugh like an idiot
LBH’S HEAD IN THE HOLLOW OF SQQ’S SHOULDER, my head tells me that’s cuddling enough-
EDIT 10: lbh’s mark on his forehead is flashing, i dunno, this make me laugh so much-
EDIT 11:
He couldn’t free his hand to cover that disastrous mark. He subconsciously turned his head abruptly and pressed his lips against Luo Binghe’s bright and clean forehead.
It actually looked sort of like he was kissing Luo Binghe’s forehead.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAH OMG OMG OMG OMG OKAY SQQ’S LIPS TOUCHED LBH, THIS IS NOT A DRILL, IT’S HAPPENING, WHO CARE HOW AND WHY, THAT’S A KISS.... SORT OF... BUT... SDKFJWPOFOPWE
WHAT IS THIS CHAPTER DOING, SQQ FUMBLING AROUND WITH LBH’S BODY LIKE THIS WITH THE EXCUSE OF HAVING TO RUN AWAY I AM DOOMED
EDIT 12:
As its hand moved lower and lower, Shen Qingqiu grew tenser and tenser. It was about to touch Luo Binghe’s back when Shen Qingqiu gritted his teeth and extracted his right hand, which had almost gone numb, and pressed down on an area of Luo Binghe’s back that was still fairly intact.
With this push, Luo Binghe’s upper half pressed completely against him. Originally, there was still a small space between them, but now the two of them were basically one person, chest against chest, stomach against stomach.
(OKAY. I AM GONNA FAINT. THERE IS NO AIR OR SPACE BETWEEN THEIR BODIES.
OMG
*breathes irregularly* no, i really wanna see what sqq will tell himself about this. i am very curious.)
The stomach should naturally be the human body’s softest area, but Luo Binghe’s abdomen jabbed terribly hard into Shen Qingqiu’s. The more he pressed down, the more he was convinced that Luo Binghe definitely had an eight pack. It was hard enough to kill someone.
(I AM LAUGHING SO HARD I CAN’T EVEN BREATH, ABS THAT KILL PEOPLE???? ARE YOU GETTING EXCITED ABOUT THOSE ABS, SHIZUN? WHAT A STRANGE THING TO NOTICE AT SUCH A TIME, DON’T YOU THINK.)
EDIT 13:
When Shen Qingqiu saw that it was about to touch Luo Binghe’s calf, he hardened his heart and parted his legs, allowing Luo Binghe’s left leg to land between his.
*SCREAMS SILENTLY*
IS MXTX LISTENING TO MY PRAYERS, MY IMAGINATION OR ANYTHING? IS THIS A GIFT?
LET LBH WAKE UP.
LET HIM WAKE UP RIGHT NOW I AM BEGGING EVERY GOD IN THE UNIVERSE FOR THIS
EDIT 14:
Their position right now was truly too unseemly. If someone poked their head over and saw them, they would think that Shen Qingqiu was someone burning with desire for sure, holding onto Luo Binghe firmly without any intention of letting go like he was doing all he could to squeeze him into his embrace.
how is it that you don’t sound so troubled by it, shizun-
EDIT 15: there it is, another demon character ready to have tea with the main one. this uncomfy/calm atmosphere in the worst situations is one of the things i love the most about mxtx’s novels
EDIT 16: who did you say is on the brink of death from serios illness. who. I DARE YOU TO REPEAT IT, BUT BEFORE THAT JUST WAKE LBH UP AND SHOW US EVERYTHING IS FINE OMG
EDIT 17:
The Dream Demon rambled, “Serves this brat right. In the past five years, he wastes his energy summoning the soul all day long and recklessly slaughters his own creations in his dreamscape at night. I’ve long since instructed him that doing so would be the same thing as destroying his own primordial spirit. Sooner or later, this day would come. In order to preserve your flesh Seed body during these past few days, he wasted his spiritual energy, and that demon sword was just waiting for an opportunity to revolt. What’s more, he forcefully broke into the Holy Mausoleum, and faced off directly against the most gifted descendant that the demon race has seen for generations.”
Shen Qingqiu gripped Xiu Ya sword so tightly that it hurt. He looked back at Luo Binghe, who was lying unconscious in the coffin, and said, “… Elder has no way of awakening him either?”
I AM CRYING LBH WENT THROUGH SO MUCH FOR HIS SHIZUN AND I AM SO HAPPY THAT SHIZUN IS HEARING ABOUT THIS RN I HOPE THIS IS GONNA BE GOOD FOR THEIR RELATIONSHIP AND IMPROVE THE WAY SHIZUN SEES LBH
MY BABE, LOOK WHAT HE DID JUST TO BE WITH HIS SHIZUN AGAIN OSJFOPWKFW
EDIT 18:
Shen Qingqiu opened his eyes and sighed. “But right now, besides me, his Shizun, who else can protect━or should I say, will protect Luo Binghe?”
(BESIDE ME, HIS SHIZUN, HUYS I SWEAR MY HEART JUST BURST OUT OF MY CHEST AND WENT TO THE HIGHTEST SKYSCRAPER IN THE WORLD TO JUMP DOWN BECAUSE THAT’LL ACTUALLY HURT LESS THAN THIS -and it hurts so good omg-)
Chaotic emotions came thick and fast. Shen Qingqiu’s thoughts were in turmoil, but he was very clear about one thing: no matter what, he couldn’t leave Luo Binghe to die here.
The Dream Demon said coldly, “After so many years, you’re finally willing to acknowledge once more that this brat is your disciple and that you are his Shizun?”
Shen Qingqiu: “It has indeed been a very long time.”
(IT FEELS LIKE I HAVE BEEN WAITING SO LONG FOR THIS I CANNOT EVEN EXPLAIN I AM SOBBING SO HARD)
He was still waiting for the Dream Demon to continue ridiculing him mysteriously, but that old man suddenly gave a sigh. He said, “If this brat could wake up and hear what you just said, I wonder how happy he would be.”
(EVEN HIS MASTER-DEMON KNOWS!!! this is truly perfect)
EDIT 19:
Shen Qingqiu’s face was full of black lines. What did he mean, “if he could wake up”? This kind of uncertain-about-life-or-death tone just made him even more uneasy, okay!
look at sqq being scared and fearing for his cutie’s health.
like- who told you to do this to my heart? who?
EDIT 20:
The Dream Demon’s anger suddenly surged up, and he shouted loudly, “I’m clearly this brat’s Shifu, how many things have I taught him?! Ah?! The ability to know everything under the sky, the method to control people’s hearts! But he refuses to call me Shifu; all he ever says is ‘Elder,’ ‘Elder’! You’re just some average cultivator that taught him a few superficial fighting moves and one or two coarse mental cultivation methods, yet he chases after you crying and calling for Shizun! It’s infuriating!”
YES YES YES GIVE US MORE PROOF OF LBH’S DEVOTION, LET SHIZUN HEAR, THIS IS TOO GOOD, TOO BEAUTIFUL, THIS IS ALL WE NEED AND MORE AOJFSPOAèAPFJK
EDIT 21:
He was about to fight back when the Dream Demon started to walk back and forth across the coffin, hands behind his back, saying with agitation, “If I had secretly eliminated you back then in the dreamscape, this kind of incident wouldn’t have happened today. This brat was originally a talent with great prospects ahead of him, but the moment he met you he became this good-for-nothing that only makes people angry. He stubbornly continues to put on an act in front of you too, pretending not to feel anything! If it were up to me, he should either just kill you or do you. Putting up such a fuss, wavering in between━it really makes someone mad when they see it!!”
I LOVE MASTER-DEMON EVERY SENTENCE MORE. THANK YOU. ‘cause if it weren’t for scenes like this, sqq would just conveniently keep to ignore the truth, which is a big N O P E.
lbh loves his shizun so much, that he stubbornly continues to put on an act in front of you too, pretending not to feel anything totally killed me and i don’t know if i’ll have the strength to read the rest of this novel without crying and wanting to hug lbh and just push these two together PLS-
EDIT 22:
Thank heavens, that bothersome old Dream Demon spirit finally agreed to let him go. Shen Qingqiu was about to sit up in a single movement when his right leg suddenly seemed to brush against something that poked stiffly into his inner thigh.
(NO. YES YES YES YOU’VE GOTTA BE KIDDING ME OMG-)
Shen Qingqiu thought it was a sword hilt at first and absent-mindedly stretched out a hand to go push it aside. He had just touched it when the System’s announcement suddenly exploded:
【YOOOOOOO~~Cool points +1000┏(┏^q^)┓~ Congratulations for obtaining the achievement “Physical Relationship Development”!!!】
(AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHH SHIZUN I LOVE YOU SO MUCH, HOW HARD MUST LBH BE FOR YOU TO EXCHANGE THAT FOR THE HILT OF A SWORD I AM DYING HELP I CAN’T FEEL MY LUNGS FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY ANYMORE-)
EDIT 23: HE CALLED IT SKY PILLAR I CAN FEEL DEATH DESCEND UPON ME MY LUNGS STOPPED WORKING
also, he doesn’t know what to do and if he should help or just leave everything as if he didn’t notice it and you’re telling me I NEED TO WAIT NEXT CHAPTER TO FIND OUT!?!?!?!??!?

Xion’s Opinions of Organization 13
I’ve seen a couple people do this so I’d thought I’d do the same. These are based off of general observations from the games, the secret reports, and manga. Several of the members Xion had little to no interaction with, so I extrapolated quite a bit. I included a brief summary as to how their relationship may proceed. These are just general headcanons and can be expanded, changed, or worked with as needed for interactions.
Note: I write Xion as a survivor of extreme, emotional, psychological, and physical abuse. Xion had no power, no rights, and no say in the Organization, she was the bottom rung. Regardless of how the character treated her, they are, in some way, complicit in her abuse. She will treat all organization members with the appropriate fear and rage.
Please don’t reblog.
13. Roxas
Xion adores Roxas, he is her first and closest friend. She would do anything for him and he’d do anything for her. While in the Organization, Xion’s primary concern was not herself but Roxas’ safety. Roxas always comes first. As good as friends as they were, the Organization was toxic for them. Xion was taught that she was inferior to Roxas, he deserved more than she did. Xion stole Roxas’ strength and memories, while she is his idealization of Kairi. Despite how much he cared for her, he remained oblivious to the depth of Xion’s situation until the end. They grow more distant, failing to communicate their complex emotions, and then at the end, they forget each other.
Outside of the Organization, Xion and Roxas have the chance to rebuild their friendship. A relationship that is built on genuine love and understanding of each other. One that is built without secrets. It would be key that they both recognize each other and themselves as unique, valuable individuals to avoid another imbalance.
12. Larxene
Larxene went to Castle Oblivion early in 358/2 Days. In the game she was dismissive and rude to Roxas. She likely was not kinder to Xion. That is if Larxene noticed her at all. Xion likely remembered Larxene as off-putting and cold. Larxene most likely saw Xion as a doll or puppet.
11. Marluxia
Marluxia was polite to Roxas and if they interacted, was likely cordial to Xion. Marluxia was a mysterious man with odd intentions who vanished before she ever knew him. A wild card with unknown abilities, she would treat him with weariness. Marluxia most likely saw Xion as Ventus.
10. Luxord
Luxord has two secret reports in 358/2 Days. The first report, from Day 173, Luxord admits that he envies ‘the children’ referring to Roxas and Xion. He believes that as children they have nothing to lose and can take impossible gambles without fear, unlike adults. He was likely aware that the Organization had some plan for her. He notes that the air has changed after Xion leaves in the Secret Report for Day 257 and then is surprised to find out she was a replica. He admits to frustration at being out of the loop. It’s odd but
9. Demyx
Axel and Roxas used to make fun of Demyx on the clock tower. Given Demyx’ usual lackadaisical attitude and obliviousness, I doubted Xion thought of him as anything more than a joke. She’d likely have a pretty neutral reaction to him. More likely, she’d be uncomfortable.
8. Axel
The secret reports reveal that Axel initially befriended Roxas not out of genuine concern, but for the sake of his mission. It wasn’t until he interacted with Repliku and felt remorse for him, that he reconsidered his friendship with Roxas. He returns, befriends Roxas but does not see Xion as more than a hooded figure. On Day 74, he saw her for the first time and notes she looks like Namine. After that they become closer friends, with him mentoring and helping her.
Axel was aware of the replica program and was wondering about Xion’s nature through-out the game. He learns a little bit before she does but decides that he doesn’t care. However, Xion goes to Castle Oblivion in attempt to learn about her past. She then confronts Axel and he not only lies to her, but gaslights her and grabs her. There is no illusion between them after this point and their relationship turns tense.
Both times Xion ran away, Axel brought her back against her will. Both times they fought. The second time lead to Xemnas’ preforming his experiment on her, which was incredibly painful, difficult, and traumatic for Xion. Ultimately, Axel was stuck between a rock and a hard place: protecting himself and protecting Roxas and Xion. They were all under threat of death for disobedience and he walked a thin line.
However, this shows how much Xion and Roxas affected Axel. He goes from a selfish, manipulative killer to a man willing to sacrifice himself to save Sora. There is great unresolved pain between Xion and Axel, they can make amends.
7. Saix
Saix was in charge of the day-to-day business and management of the organization for Xemnas. This was a position he earned by back-stabbing and behaving to expectation: cruel, callous, and cold, just like Xemnas. Of all the members, Xion interacted with Saix as an authority the most. He abused this authority and not only resented her, but was actively abusive. Saix only ever saw Xion as a puppet, he never saw her as a person and he acted like it. He misgendered her, he called her useless, broken, and threatened to kill her; In the manga Xion notes him as hostile and he calls her trash. At no point did he consider her less than a failure. Xion would be the most resentful, hateful, and furious at Saix over any other character.
Because the blog’s cannon is different, remember that Saix had no part in saving Xion in Kingdom Hearts 3. Other than her friendship with Lea, Xion would have no motivation to forgive Isa. She would be afraid of him and pissed at him. Isa must atone for his behavior, and only then can the work begin for Xion to trust him, forgive him, and maybe, possibly heal.
6. Zexion
As one of the members who went to Castle Oblivion, Xion has little original memory of him. Zexion was polite and patient with Roxas, and was probably decent to Xion, However, when Xion visited Destiny Islands she had a nightmare from Riku and Roxas’ perspectives. In it Zexion taunts Riku as he did in Chain of Memories. This nightmare was disturbing for her, forcing her through several form changes before turning into Sora. Zexion’s key role in it will factor into her thoughts of him.
5. Laxaeus
Laxaeus has no interaction with Xion before going to Castle Oblivion. He is big though so she probably would remember as the large, harsh one.
4. Vexen
Vexen’s relationship with Xion is unique. He is her creator however she did not learn this until after his death. She’d be curious about him, in a way that a child wonder about a missing parent. She wants to understand her origins and Vexen would be included in that curiosity. However, Xion would understand that Vexen created her as a tool and a weapon. She would be curious about him, but also weary.
3. Xaldin
Xion has no direct interaction with Xaldin in the games or the manga. He’s another one of those large guys she’d be nervous about.
2. Xigbar
Xigbar’s relationship to Xion is quite unique. He is more amused by Xion’s rebellion than frustrated, as Saix is. He calls her ‘poppet,’ this is either a condescending term of endearment while also making a jab at her origin. Xigbar admits in the Secret Reports that he sees Xion as Ventus. He was aware of her nature as a replica from the beginning and that she was made in Castle Oblivion. His behavior fits into Luxu’s chaotic nature, he’s more observer than participant.
There is one direct interaction between Xion and Xigbar. While on a mission with Axel, Xion and Xigbar fought. She defeats him and flees. Again, Xigbar at best seems annoyed and takes credit for her getting the jump on him. His enigmatic personality and position combined with her knowing she can beat him, would make a more confident Xion. She would not treat him politely.
1. Xemnas
Xion and Xemnas, actually, did not interact except in passing. Xemnas was hands off with the Organization and remained at a distant, the ever enigmatic superior. However, she recognized him as having the most power and the power he had over her specifically. Xion wanted Xemnas’ approval because she understood that hinged on her survival. She learned of and understood his plan with Kingdom Hearts, and how she played into it. By the end of 358/2 Days, Xion was acting specifically to spite and thwart Xemnas.
What she would remember him most for was his reprogramming. After Axel returns Xion for the last time, he takes her  and implants the rest of Sora’s memories in her. This process is painful and torturous for Xion, leading her to having to fight Roxas. In this blog, Xion survives this process but is forgotten. She has reoccurring nightmares about becoming a weapon. Xemnas is next to Saix for the member Xion hates the most in the Organization. However, there is a key difference between Saix and canon. Xion, in her mind, has defeated Xemnas.
She broke his programming and escaped the organization. She overcame him and she survived despite how he attempted to crush her. She didn’t just defeat Xemnas’ physically, by surviving, but emotionally. She overcame him. Xemnas wanted to destroy Xion and create her into Sora. But she survived. Despite how knotted he is in her trauma, Xion will refuse to submit to Xemnas again. She beat him once, and she can, and will, do it again. He is an empty man who failed-- she has no fear of him.

Death Roast (Netflix Death Note liveblog)
OK, we're not even a minute and a half in and we've already got a problem. So Light is doing some math problems very fast to show off his smarts, that figures... but then he hands it off to some other guy and takes money in return??? I thought this was a story about a guy who thinks brutal and absolute enforcement of the law is the way to a perfect world, why the fuck would he help someone cheat? (ETA: he has FIFTEEN clients. FIFTEEN students he has been helping to get grades they don't deserve. What could he possibly be doing with that money that would let him spin this into a necessary evil?)
I am way too entertained by his high-pitched screaming and running away from Ryuk's first appearance. (I thought he wasn't supposed to show up until after the first name though?)
Ok, yeah, Ryuk is way too directing here. Though "Let's write Kenny's name down and see what happens" is a nice hint at the shinigami name-sight. (So is knowing Light's name right off the bat, come to think of it.)
Clearly we're skipping over any suspense of both "is this real?" and "should I do this?". Light Turner is already showing some violent tendencies by going for "decapitation" where Light Yagami rarely gets more detailed than "traffic accident." (Also, fail on the Note's part because that was clearly only a partial decapitation. The lower jaw was still attached to the body.)
Sadly, I no longer want the potato chips I had specifically reserved for this movie.
I wonder where they're going with these implications about a previous human owning the notebook. It's not necessary, plot-wise; manga Ryuk tells Light from the beginning that he's not on anyone's side and "when you die, I'll be the one writing your name down."
Wait, there has to be a human keeper? Why?! I feel like they're ruining Ryuk as the embodiment of Chaotic Neutral: he dropped the Note because he was bored and wanted to see what a human would do with it. (Though come to think of it the manga 'verse must have had some precedent for a Death Note ending up in the human world, since why else would all these rules about human ownership of the Note be known? This kind of supports the "Death Note users reincarnate as new shinigami" theory.)
WAIT WAIT I'VE GOT A THEORY: When a person is killed by the Death Note, the shinigami gains the rest of the lifespan they would have otherwise had, right? So what if in this canon, shinigami can't use the notebooks themselves? They have to get a human to write names for them. That's why movie-Ryuk is so pushy: if the Note doesn't get used he could run out of stolen life and die.
I saw the "I can't tell you... Okay, I'll tell you" exchange on my dash already, but I kinda assumed they were already dating at that point? HOLY SHIT HE BARELY KNOWS HER. I never thought I'd say this, but Light, you are not being nearly paranoid enough. (...No pun intended.)
He handed Mia the notebook before telling her to look at where Ryuk was; he assumed they were working by the animanga rules lmao Admittedly this will make keeping the secret easier. Which, as discussed, he needs the help. I'm guessing that Light is going to give Mia some ripped-out pages so that on the "retains the properties of the entire book" principle she'll become a secondary Kira Keeper.
HOW ARE THEY SUPPOSED TO "THANK YOU" IF YOU KEEP MAKING THE DEATHS LOOK LIKE ACCIDENTS? Bring back the default heart attack, dammit! Or if you want to be flashy, how about writing "struck by lightning," something easily fatal and popularly associated with divine punishment? On a related note, does this director have some sort of fetish for heads exploding?
Wow, Light is actually having scruples now? But credit where credit is due: the question of "How do we know if these anonymous Internet tips are trustworthy?" is actually a really good one that the manga was probably written too early to address properly. It's timely now, considering how common doxxing has become even over trivial matters, and how stolen images for example can result in the wrong person suffering the consequences.
Actually, I guess having "Kira" literally split between two people works, because you can't have too much internal monologue in a live-action movie. Inner conflicts become spoken, so that's why this adaptation has Light being the conscience and Mia being the Lady to his Macbeth.
Watari's real name is just "Watari"? Ok, nobody is paranoid enough in this movie.
[SERIOUS SPOILER ALERT! THERE'S LESS THAN HALF AN HOUR LEFT OF THE MOVIE AND THAT PROBABLY INCLUDES CREDITS. SERIOUSLY THINK HARD ABOUT READING FURTHER IF YOU PLAN TO WATCH AND HAVEN'T]
Damn, that was cold, writing Light's name in the book as insurance. However, she didn't actually write "...after he gives this notebook to Mia," which would have been smart because then he would have no choice. (Pretty sure that would be safe since it's just the first name. Anything less specific would invite loopholes.)
I can't be the only one who found the slow-mo-fall-with-Chicago-playing narmy as hell.
OMG, the way he got the Death Note back-- now that is the caliber of plan I'd expect from Kira.
Hmm, and they leave it ambiguous whether L kills him or not. The father being so calm about the reveal was weird though... (I guess he had a couple days to process the realization while Light was comatose, but still...?!)
Honestly, aside from Light's dad suddenly accepting that he's Kira at the end, the movie wasn't as bad as I expected. It doesn't stand up to the original in terms of psychology or philosophy, but taken as its own AU thing (like the pilot manga) it's a decent bit of entertainment.
