Favorite thing about them: HIS SELFISHNESS. It's so so delicious to explore. Can you imagine a protagonist that saves others not out of simple good will, but because of egoistic self-preservation motives? It just feels counterintuitive for me lmao, and I found it quite messed up when I first watched the anime, but now it's so compelling to explore. His whole “everything I do is in order to gain the right to live” is crazy fashinating. Because lol, that's entirely nonsensical to me! There's no such thing as “gaining the right to live”; all humans, every person in the world is inherently deserving of life. All. No exception. So there's no level of “weak” or “worthless” that would make you lose that right. The fact that's it's a vision so distant and absurd from mine, idk, it just makes it very compelling to explore? “What if there was a little fucked up guy who believed the right to live had to be earned” just sounds like a very interesting premise.

Least favorite thing about them: When I first watched the anime, I think I found him low-key annoying? I just... Don't do very well with self-deprecating people and people who complain a lot in general, I usually suffer in silence and tend to (wrongly) assume others should do the same (this probably makes me sound pretty mean, I swear I try to be understanding irl). However, it doesn't bother me as much anymore, I simply think it's more of a distinctive trait of the character that makes him multilayered and unique. As of now, I can't think of anything I don't like about him if not the fact that I wish he'd rely on Dazai and others in general a little less. I know that has to do with his lack of self-worth, so maybe it makes sense,, but as of now he feels kind of stuck. I just wish we'd see him grow more on that front.

brOTP: KYOUKA AND ATSUSHI they make me go insane. Already talked about this in the Kyouka post but just to reiterate: in my headcanon Kyouka really is the only person Atsushi feels genuine, selfless affection towards. It's very sweet. They're siblings. Kyouka's happiness is really important for Atsushi. They really do have that feeling of people who got out of an abusive environment learning what normality is supposed to be like together. I also really like how they compensate for what the other lacks, be it decisiveness and coolhead for Atsushi and empathy and positivity for Kyouka. Although plenty shipping them romantically, I really like platonic sskk and atsulucy as well.

OTP: I really like sskk eheh. I think they're neat. There's a thousand and one reasons why I find them pretty great. They're objectively the only reason why I got invested in bsd as well as the only thing that has me keep up with the franchise to this day. Right now, I feel like the one thing I really appreciate about them is how you can be the worst person in the universe and still somehow be loveable to someone. I think it's sweet. I also find it very fun and enterataining to explore their various soulmatism antics. They're both very complex and multilayered characters with something deeply wrong with how their minds work that makes them very fun to analyze both by their own and in the complexity of their relationship. Their collective story arc and canon relationship progression is extremely engaging and nice to follow, too. I love dazatsu and atsulucy as well!! Both were ships I wasn't particularly invested when I read the manga for the first time, but really grew in me in the last six months or so. I really dig akuatsulucy as well!!

nOTP: Nothing?

Random headcanon: He really likes reading. There's some real meta-analysis to be made here I actually had written this is probably not the right place to talk about, but in a work that's all about literature, he's the character who reads.

Unpopular opinion: He's the hardest character to write / characterize. That's why people should probably go easier on other fans when they mischaracterize him. He's just very multifaceted and genuinely hard to get. I keep seeing people being like “Stop babyfying Atsushi he's an independent adult!!” then turn around to say “he can't be shipped with Dazai because there's too much unbalance of power :// [somewhat implying Atsushi can't make free decisions for himself]”, or “Stop making of Atsushi a soft baby who never did wrong in his life!!!” then turn around to say “Atsushi is the happy puppy of the agency who gets treats and pats from everyone ^^ ” like. At least to me, a lot of people's arguments sound self-contradictory all the time; but that doesn't mean people should stop having fun and characterize the characters as they like! Just, let's stop being mean to each other and try to be a little more accepting towards others' takes, shall we? And yes that also includes letting people find Atsushi annoying if they find him annoying (although like, I've NEVER found anyone call Atsushi annoying ever, so really, what remote fandom spaces is everyone visiting? Why are you looking for clothes (good takes) at the soup store (Tik/tok I assume?) ).

5. Memoirs

Memoirs is just a silly little thing my girlfriend and I have been working on for the past few months about post-gm Taylor in Kennet. This story gets the number five spot not because I think it's bad, but because my beautiful girlfriend does a lot of the heavy lifting with plotting and characterization because I haven't read Pale. I'm simply there to add where I can. Lovely story, though, and I can't wait for it to reach its ending. I love stories exploring how Taylor deals with everything after it all ends, and K8 really is the queen of that genre.

4. High School Abusical

Alright, this was one of the first stories I wrote on my own that I was really proud of. This whole story spawned from a conversation with the absolute genius user Foxtail about how clusters are always so boring because people usually gen random characters that have no relation to each other when those existing relationships being twisted up into a trigger can lead to so much more fun. The main premise is that Taylor is in a cluster with the Trio. I really would like to get back to this fic someday. I had a lot of fun ideas I wanted to implement, and the way all these girls play off each other is so delightful. I was informed after the fact I got the way clusters work wrong when making the powers, which has really been the only thing holding me from continuing. I can't convince myself to write when such an integral part of the story is off. Maybe I'll redo those someday...

3. Self Implant

Self Implant, my beloved. Fun fact, this was a gift to K8 for her birthday. Bonesaw gets a person in her head, trying to take a crack at playing her conscience. Now, this might surprise some of you, but I really like Bonesaw. I love playing around with her, and this story is just an excuse to do that for one million words. Like a little bug in a jar that I'm feeding enrichment to. This story really just gets me excited. I really, really need to put some more out there, for my own sake if no one else's

2. Severed

Severed!!!!!!! A story about Taylor joining the nine and the consequences there of. Also, the only story I wrote that has the dubious honor of actually driving someone crazy in real life. This story means a lot to me. Severed was the reason that I first started talking to my girlfriend (she wrote the amazing AU of it, Soliloquy), and for that alone, it will always be near the top for me. I think this story is where I really kind of took off as a writer, started getting past a lot of the mistakes that plagued my earlier stuff. It still has tons of grammatical errors, hard to get those right when youre inebriated most of the time, but this story has a lot of my feelings wrapped up in it, a lot of myself wrapped up into it, which will always boost it towards the top.

1. Felix Fortuna

Felix Fortuna is the best story I think I've ever written, and it's not even close. A story about Contessa going to Hogwarts that was originally written because of how much I disliked what Ward decided to do with her character. I feel like you can actually see me get better in real time as the story goes on. This was a collaborative effort with three other amazing authors (Pericardium, Maroon_Sweater, and Poe), and I think it really shows with all the care put into it. It lands at number one for a lot of reasons. It's got some of the best prose of anything I've written, it's the most well constructed of my stories, I love every character from Fortuna to Flavia to Jessica and Angelique. But mostly I like it best because I, at my heart, am a massive softy. When it comes to it, more than anything, I want a story where a character I really love finally gets a happy ending.

Since the morning, he’s had an itchy feeling that something’s about to go down.

Call it warlock intuition or his own guilt eating at himself slowly, he just knows that today is not going to be a good day.

He’s proved right half a day later, at another stupid club, trying to cockblocking Alec again.

Magnus isn’t proud of his actions, but watching Alec with someone else isn’t an easy thing for him. So, he lets his stupid behavior continue for weeks. Ever since Magnus caught Alec with the seelie and then proceeded to threaten the Seelie, he’s repeated his actions four more times.

Four more times, in a period of two weeks that Magnus has managed to prevent Alec from being with someone else.

He’s never been this crazy in love. It’s borderline pathetic at this point but Magnus can’t seem to stop. He almost doesn’t want to.

Stopping Alec from being with someone else is easier than actually talking to Alec and discussing about whatever he’s been feeling.

He never pretends to be the rational one anyways.

Not in the matters of heart specially.

Magnus hides behind the bar, snaps his fingers again to get the vampire that’s been biting down on Alec’s shoulder to feel itchy and uncomfortable under his skin.

He knows the routine by heart now.

3. 2. 1.

The vampire makes his way towards the bar and Magnus repeats the words—unleashes his power and instills the fear of Asmodeus onto the vampire.

Five minutes later, he sees Alec with a dejected look, leaving the premises.

Magnus waits for a few minute so that Alec leaves—he’s too filled with shame to face the man.

Finally, after what seems like enough time, he goes out to breathe some air.

His head and heart hurt.

He’s so sick of it.

“Hey.”

Magnus turns and his eyes widen as he finds Alec, smoking, sitting on a nearby bench outside the place.

“Oh. Hi. Hey,” he says dumbfounded.

“I didn’t realise you ever came here.”

Magnus pauses before speaking, “yeah. Today was a first. An acquaintance of mine has been bugging me to check out his place. So here, I am. And what about you?”

“I was here with someone,” Alec swallows, “but he turned out to be kind of a dick. Stupid, hot body though.”

Magnus blinks for a second because Alec has never been this open about his one night stands infront of Magnus. It throws him off for a second.

“Umm, oh. What did he do?”

Alec hums. “Nothing much. Just left me in the middle of the club and disappeared. Seems to be a pattern with me.”

Magnus closes his eyes at the words.

“Simon told me about Grindr. I’m thinking of adding ‘most dump-able person’ in my profile.”

Magnus winces at the words and the self deprecating tone, “Alec, what? No. You’re not—“

“I’m not what?” Alec says sharply and everything feels so wrong.

“You’re not dump-able. All those you went on dates with weren’t worth it.” He tries to soothe the pain that he can see on the face on the shadowhunter.

Alec lets out a dry chuckle, “are you really going to stand here and continue lying to me?”

Magnus frowns because he doesn’t get what’s happening.

“I’m not lying. You shouldn’t be associating your self-worth to all those men. They don’t know you. That Seelie was stupid and so was the werewolf. And the vampire from half an hour ago. They don’t deserve you, Alec.”

Sone flashes across Alec faces because it goes stone cold. “How do you know about all of them? I never mentioned them.”

Oh.

Oh hell.

“I—“

“Is that how much you hate me, Magnus?” Alec questions and he seems so pained by the words.

Magnus is horrified at the implication and rambles, “Alec, no. Of course I don’t hate you. I could never hate you. I—“

“Can you stop lying for one fucking second?” Alec seethes, “I know you are the one who has been sabotaging all my dates. You are the one who threatened all those people.”

Magnus’s heart races because Alec knows now—knows everything of what he did and there is no explanation in the world for his actions.

Alec steps forward and they are eye to eye now.

“Are you still so mad about the immortality thing? And even if you are—I understand that. But do you really despise me so much that you cannot see me happy for even five fucking second?”

Magnus all but chokes at the words—with the hurt he caused Alec and all the pain that’s inside himself.

“I’m fucking miserable. Is that what you want?”

“No. Alexander….that’s not why I—“

Alec raises hand at that and stops him, “Don’t you dare. You have no right to call me Alexander, ever again.”

Magnus all but crumbles at the words because this is all he had left.

The name he gave Alec. The love he stores inside it all every time he calls him that.

This is all he had left.

“Alexa—Alec…I.” He chokes, “I don’t hate you. You have got it all wrong.”

“Then why the hell are you doing this, Magnus?” Alec yells, “what the hell do you want from me?”

Magnus steps forward to put a calming hand on Alec’s shoulder but the shadowhunter pulls back and he feels a pang inside his chest.

He didn’t think he could hurt more than he already was.

But somehow Alec Lightwood makes it possible.

“I don’t—“ Magnus wants to say the words but for some reason he can’t. It’s like something is physically preventing him from saying it out loud.

How he only did all of this out of jealousy and because of how much he misses Alec.

“You win, okay? You fucking win.” Alec says in a suffocated voice, “I hurt you and this is what I deserve.”

“Alec, please,” Magnus chokes, finding it impossible to find the right words. There are no words in the word that could fix what he just broke, “you don’t deserve this. It was horrible of me to do this but it’s not because I hate you. I don’t.”

A single tear leaves Alec’s eyes and trespasses inside Magnus’s chest.

“I sat there infront of you and poured my heart out to you. After each of those dates, I opened up to you. You were there all those times like a knight in shining armour and I was stupid enough to believe in you.”

His entire body aches with the words, he doesn’t know what to say, what to do to fix this. He can’t let Alec think all of this.

Magnus never meant to cause Alec this much pain. He’s just been trying to make sense of his own heart.

“I’m sorry. I..”

Alec raises a hand before taking something out from his pocket. It’s a small pendant, the shame of the Eiffel Tower.

“I got you this when we were in Paris. But I never got the chance to give you because of the whole cult-thing. And then so much happened. Then you were taken to Edom. I’ve been waiting for the right time to give you this.” Alec steps closer and puts the pendant in Magnus’s hand.

Magnus feels his face wet with tears as he takes the pendant.

“I wanted to thank you for loving me.”

“Alec—“

“You broke my heart that day when you broke up with me,” Alec whispers, “But today, you broke me.”

A sob leaves Magnus’s mouth at the words.

“Are you done? Because I am done. You wanted me to be in pain, right? You win Magnus, because, pain is all I feel right now.”

Night that day, on the rooftop of the building beside the Chinese restaurant…

Yuuta: Good god.

Like Aniki, we the “Team Wise Younger Brother” ended up freeloading, or in other words, working at live-ins at Master’s restaurant, but…

There wasn’t any room left in the building, so instead we’re camping on the rooftop of one of Master’s acquaintances’ buildings with a tent, huh.

Well, the “Team Wise Younger Brother” arrived later, so I can’t complain.

Meals and baths are taken care of, so it’s better than living in a cardboard house on the street.

Shinobu: Our team name sounds like it’s way overcompensating for something compared to “Team Aniki”…

Yuuta: …Generally, Aniki’s more popular nowadays, so our team name’s all we’ve got going for us. I don’t want to become something like Aniki’s extra.

I want to be more assertive, even if it’s a bad look for me.

Shinobu: Right. Since we’re a large group of people, our fans are spread out among individuals nicely. I haven’t had to worry about that too much.

It sounds tough for only one of a unit of two members to be popular.

Yuuta: Sure is~… It’s really tough~, the people around me treat me like an unwanted child.

And they say things like, “the younger brother’s way too desperate to show off his individuality by growing his hair out lol”, even though that’s not why I changed my appearance.

It really pisses me off, but I doubt this’ll be an easy situation to reverse.

I’m suuuure you also just think I’m losing my way as of late, though, Shinobu-kun.

But now that we’re so different, we can’t go back to being the two in one twin idols that get along anymore.

If we do, probably only Aniki will stand out, and I’ll just be his extra.

I’ll be drowned out by the light that is Aniki, and pushed into the shadows, where nobody can recognize me.

And I sure as hell don’t want to spend my life like that, just sinking down like the setting sun.

Shinobu: Right… I am a ninja so it’s a given, but I too also tend to hide in the shadows, so I understand, de gozaru. Of course, while it’s impossible to understand someone else’s feelings 100%…

I can at least sympathize with you, Yuuta-kun.

Rather, that's why I’m enduring your ninja ban and other various tyrannies, Yuuta-kun. It's painfully apparent to me that you’re struggling desperately.

Really, what should we do? If it’s too hard, we can just take it easy at Master’s place like this until the final day.

Though I guess that’d make for a rather exciting program, wouldn’t it.

Shinobu: I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a peaceful ending, but it’s not that type of program, is it…

And it might be disadvantageous against Anzu-dono in the producer showdown, who is in charge of this episode.

If there’s enough people who think that Anzu-dono’s episodes are boring and not worth watching, then it’s over, de gozaru.

The ratings may drop dramatically for Anzu-dono’s future episodes.

In this day and age, the fact that the producers change every episode will be easily noticed by those with sensitive antennae.

Yuuta: The episode producer names are usually credited. It’d be a big blow to Anzu-san’s reputation if she becomes known as a producer who makes uninteresting programs.

It’ll interfere with her future activities as a producer, even if she wins the producer showdown.

I owe a lot to YamadaP of course, but I’ve owed a lot to Anzu-san for a while now too—

If we can help it, I’d rather her reputation not suffer because she was in charge of our program. That’d be nothing but ungrateful.

And she’s a candidate for becoming Aniki’s wife, too, meaning there's a possibility she’ll become my sister-in-law some day.

So if possible, I’d like her to find success in her job and maintain financial stability.

Shinobu: Huh, wait what? What do you mean de gozaru? His wife?

Yuuta: Fufufu~, so actually, things have gotten a bit interesting, you see. ♪

Yuuta: …Wait, huh?

Shinobu: Wh-what’s wrong, Yuuta-kun? Has something gotten in your eye?

Yuuta: No, just… Speak of the devil, look, Anzu-san’s here.

Shinobu: Anzu-dono is? But aside from the camera crew, aren’t producers and the rest of the staff supposed to leave at night and go home like usual…?

Yuuta: Yeah. That’s supposed to be the case, but it looks like Anzu-san stayed behind today for some reason.

Wait, maybe its that? Something like… She’s meeting in secret with Aniki in some unfrequented back alleyway…?

Y-You know, I was just making a joke out of it, but could it really be…?

HIIII, I know it's completely random to come and ask about this, but curiosity was already killing me! I really wanted to know your favorite fanfics/users about our community of 5 rises from the shadows every 1 fanart posted per year 🤩 (Laughing at the misery)

But anyway, I'm just asking because you'll always be my favorite even after years, for me no one will ever be able to understand and write the characters exactly the way I imagine you do, and I wanted to know a little more about your point of view on PPG fanfics/creators. (Please never stop even with random headcanons during the week because I need them to make my month happier and survive in this fandom 😭)

The main question is right in the first part, but I just wanted to be able to express a little bit how much I love your profile, even though I'm not very good with words... Thanks for reading this far! ♡ (Sorry if I got some words wrong, English is not my first language and it doesn't even make the top 3. It took a lot of practice :) Please don’t apologize for anything!! gosh, this is such a hard ask because there are literally only five people, like you said 😂😂 I feel like I’ve been out of the game for a bit, so if there’s been any new exciting fan stuff, I haven’t seen it.

When it comes to favorite users, I’ve made a lot of friends over the years. A lot of those people have deactivated or moved on after CW announced their show, so, for simplicity, I’m not going to name anyone because I’d feel bad leaving someone out. But truly, I’ve liked everyone I’ve had the opportunity to talk and bond over the show with. The little corner I’ve hung out with is a good group, and it’s nice to still see old faces pop up every once in a while. If anything, I haven't deleted or let go of this blog because I don’t want all the fun posts we’ve made to go too. I like them being somewhere, and it’s still important to me.

With respect to fics I’ll give you three! Whenever I’m asked this, I always link The Notion of Loss by Gold Scribbles (completed). It’s one of my faves. It’s dark. There’s major character death, and it’s not cutesy (which is what I prefer), but I loved loved loved the characterizations.

My next fave fic is no longer available 😭 (or at the very least, I can no longer find it). The premise involves the rrb coming back. Their goal was to kill the girls. They jumped Bubbles to get their attention and attacked her to the point of disfigurement. Of course, Buttercup and Blossom are out for blood via enhanced antidote-X. They end up capturing Boomer as bait (call back to the og show), and are able to fight Brick and Butch. Buttercup kills but not without Butch doing the classic “See, you’re as bad as me! Haha!” which she ends up internalizing in the post-time skip. Blossom ends up killing Brick but at the sacrifice of her own life, which is the only way to stop him, and the scene where she comes to peace with things is heart-wrenching. The epilogue shows Buttercup lamenting over Butch’s last words and honoring her sister by finishing her work. Bubbles, with scarring that never healed, visits Boomer in jail, who she sees every week to spend time with him. She’s kind and polite because she believes he can be better, and it drives him crazy. AND I LOVVVVEEED IT. But it’s gone now. And it hurts.

My third rec is Pencils Tell a Little Too Much by Iminaloine (completed). It's a Butch-centric fic that explores how he's able to channel his anger and more intense emotions through art, which is 10/10!!

And because one of my fic recs doesn't have a link, here's 2 extra! everybody screams at the end of the world by fuckin-rodent (incomplete). While it's incomplete, it sets up a post-apocalyptic story like no other. I also really like heartsickness by the same author, which is a greens story.

Finally, while I don’t want to stop making stuff for you, I’ve obviously slowed down :(( The blog's still on hiatus; I'm sorry! I finished school and have recently started a new job. I don't know when I'll have time to more consistently update, which I know I've been saying for years now, but that's just growing up sometimes :/ And because I've been so busy, I'm feeling pretty uninspired about things. I haven't written anything new in months for any of my own writing projects or fandoms.

I do have another fan blog for my general fan interests that I sometimes write on (justanotherfanwriter). I can't guarantee you'll find something you like, but I'm more active on there solely because that's where I reblog a larger variety of fan content and sometimes write one-shots for other fandoms. But when it comes to the fics, again, I haven't been very inspired, so there isn't much there. It's pretty devoid of my own content, actually. So, I don't have many friends through that blog!

I also have a side blog for my own writing projects, but that has a dismal, like, 10 posts on it because I've got nothing up in my brain rn. Also, it's harder to write when you have no friends to brainstorm with! I def need more friends who'd talk about personal projects with me, not just fanfics!! If anyone has made it this far down the post, let me know if this is something you'd be interested in (just for shits and giggles at this point nothing serious)

Patiently, you waited outside your father's office. It seemed like he was having a heated conversation with- well you're not sure who but it sounded intense. All of a sudden, the oak wood doors to your father's office busted open and an angry man stomped out into hallway, on his way out the door yelling.

"You won't get away with this! I'll make sure of it!"

To protect you from the angry man's wrath, your father's guards surrounded you, guns loaded and ready to shoot at anyone who came near you. As soon as the crazy guy was walked off the premises, you ran into your dad's office and hopped into one of the chairs at his desk.

"Daddy, who was that crazy guy?" You asked your father. He patted his leg, signaling you come sit on his lap. Happily, you slid across his desk and sat on your dads lap, ready to hear what he was about to say.

"Do you remember that business deal I made a while ago, princess?"

"The one that owns that huge building by mommy's store?" you questioned. He smiled at you, thinking about how smart you are for an eight-year-old. There were no secrets between you and your father, even when it came to his business affairs. Your father wanted a boy, that way he could take over his business. However, life didn't quite work in his favor and his wife blessed him with a baby girl instead. But you were afraid of nothing, and you loved adventure. The first time you held a gun, you were five. By the time you turned seven, you had already taken many lives. This life you not something you were sheltered from, and your father was certain that you would inherit his kingdom one day.

"Well, he's the head of our rivals, and threatened to trash mommy's store if we didn't pay protection, show I just had some people pay him an unpleasant visit."

It was honestly nothing big. All they did was break a couple bones. No one died. But he wasn't going to let your father win so easily.

You sighed. This is what their fighting over? Some simple territory.

"Dad, it's no big deal. We'll get it back, don't worry", you told him. He looked at you with sorrowful eyes.

"Sweetie, we still own the land. But in order to keep it, I had to give up one of my other most prized possessions."

Oh no

Oh hell no.

"Dad. Y-you didn't", you said, on the brink of tears.

He whispered a simple sorry, the tears already running down his face.

Mieruko-Chan: One of the Strongest Characters Out There.

Recently, I’ve finished the first chapter manga called Mieruko-Chan, a story of a normal girl living a normal life, until one day it all changes. She suddenly sees the most horrifying creatures throughout her day-to-day life. A simple and fun premise with an outstanding quality: we don’t know the origin of this sudden occurrence.

It’s just one day she spots grotesque and disturbing creatures that vaguely resemble people that nobody else sees. These abominations attempt in every way to catch her attention, yet she never falters. Her strategy is to pretend they’re not there. So then, the reader naturally asks, “why?” If it were any ordinary individual, they’d freak the f*ck out! Like, an “Oh my god!!! There’s severed heads of babies surrounding a womb of a mangled mother!!” sort of deal. Why does she choose to not react? I feel the reason is, she’s already 100 steps ahead of the game.

Let’s put it this way, if she is suffering from a mental illness, whether it’s a visual-auditory hallucination symptom of some kind, or it’s the real deal spirits of Hell, the result will be the same! If she loses her composure, and points out what she sees to others, and they don’t see anything, they’ll think she’s crazy. Not to mention, what will happen when she takes notice of these creatures, they become aware of it, and with this knowledge, they’re able to torment her all the worse? A freaky and precarious situation right here! My astonishment is the sheer fact that she’s able to maintain that composure no matter what creepy monstrosity appears. It says a lot about her emotional resilience and quick-wit.

The premise as a whole says a lot about what people with mental illness do face every day: what they experience, the scary and unpredictable stimuli they encounter, and not quite being able to explain it all without sounding insane. For example, I’ve lived for years with this one-track mind that everything I say would “make sense” to others, be it friends or strangers. It was a stupid mentality. What I’ve learned, the simple reality is that 1) Life isn’t just about my own perspective and 2) logically, some things simply can’t be put together and “make sense” to people. It just doesn’t register as something that can happen to them. The lesson to learn through this is to maintain your composure, always. Keep overcoming that stimuli and push through it.

In this story, she has an awesome best friend, Hana! She’s the scatterbrained, loveable, high-spirits kind of character. The egregious reality is that only Mieruko suffers from this fate, and worse of all, she can’t inform her friend. Imagine the sheer weight of being unable to tell someone you trust most? I think that’s among the most selfless sacrifices one can make - she doesn’t want to get her friend involved in any way, wishes to protect her, and deals with the blows all by herself. That’s amazing. There’s a lesson found right there. Long ago, I trusted my friends so much that I shared every single detail about how I felt to them (I trust them and feel ultra comfortable around them), but what I failed to realize was that I was emotionally dumping on them all that energy. All those details about what’s going wrong. It’s a strenuous thing to encounter that all the time. I wish I realized that much earlier for their sake. I wish I could have shined a brighter, more positive energy and aura around me. That’s sort of how Mieruko feels about Hana! Since Hana is unaware, she lives her life freely, happily, and ordinarily. It’s as if Mieruko lives vicariously through her friend - to grasp any form of normalcy. Hana emits this bursting happy energy, that her presence alone feels like a great distraction to what’s going on around Mieruko - something important to also take from. You can be the clumsiest, silliest, obscure goofball, but that doesn’t matter as long as you’re as true to who you are and you retain a nice and inviting energy around you. It makes a world of difference for Mieruko, and it’ll make a world of difference to loved ones in our lives. <3

So, I suppose the question is, how would you face this fate? Putting this ordeal in your shoes, how would you react?

I guess I wanted to show my appreciation for this character. Mieruko is badass, and she has a really cool style and vibe. The concept resonated a lot with me and what I had to face in a weird way. Definitely looking forward to reading future chapters! No spoilers please! I highly recommend the series to all my friends. ^-^

*thinking about your Holding Out For A Hero post* elaborate elaborate elaborate pLEASE elaborate

Ok, ok, it took a hot minute but i have time to elaborate now.

So the premise is simple. Son of Aphrodite Langa is kidnapped, used as bait, whatever to get something else in exchange. And like, i don't care what people say, Aphrodite is one of the most powerful goddesses, so it would make sense that one of her kids are taken, especially especially when those kids are viewed as helpless and weak because they don't seem to have the fighting abilities of the other children. I mean, all they care about it how they look and who has a crush on them, right?

Anyway, Langa is stuck, and maybe whoever took the kid wants him to be in love with them because do you know how much power that would give them? Having Langa be on their side? So while Langa isn't tortured, he's still stuck. And while stuck, he probably makes friend with something/someone, just to keep him from going crazy. Probably like one of the villains aids, or a maid of sort. Not anyone outwardly evil, no one that would really get anything out of this kidnapping, but still on the wrong side of history (if you'll excuse the expression)

So they're asking him what his ideal partner would be, probably to report it to the main villain. Which brings the first verse. 1) it reveals Langa's homosexuality, 2) the Hercules reference is just too good. And hero = good. Langa needs someone good, not this villain.

Meanwhile, Reki is out there, searching for his love, his Langa. He's gonna be Langa's hero. And he's strong, he's fast, and trust, he'll be fresh from the strong. (also, to Langa, Reki is larger than life. What's life without Reki?)

Also, just the melody and beat and whatever. It just. The speed and the intensity gives me Langa's anger. The power behind that first I Need A Hero is very Langa snapping, essentially going "I'll never love you, no matter what you do. You'll never be my hero" and also that he's gonna wait for as long as he must for Reki to get there.

By the second verse, Reki gets there, Langa spots him because he always knows when Reki is near. (I have opinions about how Dite kids abilities should work). Also Reki is just beyond his reach, and Reki's reaching back at him in some way, y'know?

"it's gonna take a superman to sweep my off my feet" -> that's when Reki gets there for real, within Langa's reach, and that's where Langa fucking snaps. All that pent up anger and frustration, bad guys are fucked. Because they have Reki fighting them, but also a very angry Langa that's seeing his love fighting, potentially getting hurt (you could say, he has fire in his blood.... Y'know because lyrics and also Hephaestus kid being the one he adores). And anger, one of the strongest passions, one that stands by Aphrodite's side, who can beat anger? A lover will raise a war for their beloved. And Langa is not above that.

Langa needs a hero, it's whats "expected" of him, but also. He's no damsel in distress. He's pent up anger and frustration that will make everything blow for the one he loves. What's a world without his hero, without his Reki. He'll wait forever for him, but Reki will be the reason Langa raises hell.

TL;DR: Holding Out For a Hero is a Langa song but not in he way one would expect. He isn't a damsel in distress, but his hero will be the trigger that will get him to destroy everything in his way

Total Eclipse (1995) — A Movie Review by linklethehistorian (Post 4/4)

(Continuation of review placed under the cut for length and spoilers; proceed at your own risk.)

The Takeaway

Having watched this film somewhere upwards of about forty times upon reaching this section of the review (and still likely about to watch it just one time more afterward, in order to gather the clip compilations mentioned earlier and check for any possible errors in my writings here), the one thing that I can say with absolute confidence is that Total Eclipse (1995) is a pretty mixed bag of both good and bad elements.

On the one hand, the cast, the vast majority of the acting, the sets and filming locations, the wardrobes, the music, the chosen color palette, and at times even the quality of the dialogue for the film are all extremely excellent, but on the other, the pacing suffers greatly, the types and timings of the scene transitions are often extremely disorienting or just plain appear unpolished, the timeline of events is often vague at best, and the writing, when it’s not showing off its high points, is otherwise extremely awkward and unnatural, absurdly edgy merely for the sake of it, or just plain unbearably bad.

Most notable and important of all, though — at least, to me — and what makes me personally label it as a “bad movie” despite that I have admittedly enjoyed some other films and different story-driven media much less, is its conscious decision to go far above and beyond the standard “based on a true story” statement to tell us that everything within it is, in fact, 100% real and accurate to the life stories of those portrayed within and taken directly from their letters and poetry, only to then get so much of it so abysmally wrong that at times it is deeply difficult and disorienting to follow even for someone who has dedicated years of their life to studying Arthur Rimbaud and Paul Verlaine’s history in multiple languages.

There were numerous times while watching and writing about this film that I had to turn back to several of my many different notes and sources just to make doubly sure that I wasn’t going crazy for thinking, “hey, that’s not how [event] happened, right?” because the movie doubled down so much on that particular wrong narrative that it bordered on gaslighting — if such a thing was possible for a film to achieve.

…And I have to be honest: I don’t get it. Outside of the theory I have already posited before about wanting to move heaven and Earth to give the film what it deems a happier and more romantic end, I truly don’t understand why it was even necessary to go to such lengths when, in reality, the original, genuine version of the events they are claiming to portray were actually much more interesting than whatever the movie’s interpretation had going on with it.

The most tragic thing about this film being so awful is that it had every opportunity not to be; not only did it have everything going for it in terms of talents, but the premise itself was genuinely great. The true life stories of Verlaine and Rimbaud and their affair are extremely fascinating, dark, intense, and dramatic subjects that would lend themselves more than extraordinarily well to a movie on the big screen — at least if done correctly, with great care taken towards accurately representing those it involves, but the writers here instead decided that it was more important to rewrite and ‘dramatize’ those events and the causes behind them than to care if it was a fair and respectful portrayal.

If this was a completely fictional story about fictional people, then it would be different; I would still personally find it vomit-inducing and creepy, and thus very much not for me as an individual, if it romanticized abuse and demonized a victim while painting the main offender in a pitiful light, but as long as none of it was real, it wouldn’t be that big of a deal — just one of the many fucked up pieces of media that exist out there in the world for those who look for and want it.

But this isn’t fiction; this is supposedly meant to tell a real life story about real life people who actually genuinely lived on this planet at one point just like you or I, and despite this particular movie having become practically impossible to find through any safe and reputable source in very recent years, I have unfortunately legitimately encountered many people whose formative opinions on Paul and Arthur were largely based in one way or another on this film and the very untrustworthy things it alleges — which is honestly the main reason I decided to write this review in the first place: to use my acquired knowledge to clear the air of continued misinformation as much as possible.

…Then again, you do get to see Leonardo DiCaprio pretending to be a dead poet who is pretending to be a dog or a goat at least a few times within this movie, so maybe it all evens out in the end. …I’m kidding, of course — about it evening out, anyway; you do actually get to see that, and David Thewlis pretends to be a goat too, briefly.

In all seriousness, if you don’t care about any of the above historical inaccuracies, and you’re just here to see your favorite actors, or you’re looking for a movie that’s really good at making you feel uncomfortable, then you’ll probably actually get a good amount of enjoyment out of Total Eclipse. …Or if you’re looking for a good second-hand embarrassment simulator — you’d get a lot of that out of this film, too.

Even in spite of everything I’ve said in this section — and the fact that every time I watch it I feel my soul slowly draining out of my body while I sit like a deer in the headlights — it’s not like I can stay away from this film for whatever reason, either; it feels like I make the very inadvisable decision to make the journey over to my preferred website of choice and try to watch it at least every other month even when I’m not writing a review, so…yeah, I’m not really one to talk badly about its watchability.

Anyway, that’s my review of Total Eclipse (1995). If you made it to the end of this, congratulations!!! — …Or…my sympathies; whichever may be most fitting. [Review] [Visual Novel] Billionaire Lovers

I bought this game even before it had an English version and just left it in my to-play list for the longest time because I don’t understand Chinese. Then it got an English translation when life became hectic so I didn’t have the chance to play it until recently.

I decided to play Billionaire Lovers because I wanted a short, fluffy romance game. The internet said I could finished the whole game in around 4 hours for all routes and it was perfect because I don’t have much time, but I also don’t wanna leave routes unfinished for a long time.

To start off with my conclusion, it was indeed around 4 hours to complete so it ticked my “short” condition. But I don’t know if I’d call it fluffy. Don’t get me wrong. The game is great and I thoroughly enjoyed playing it. But it wasn’t quite what I expected. 

Story

The story isn’t complex by any means but it has a lot more depth than the bright, colorful art style might lead you to believe. The premise sounds fantastical, but the story itself was a lot more realistic and practical than I thought it would be.

It’s about the right length for the story it tried to tell and going through each route uncovered more details every time that made previously experienced events/dialogue make sense.

I guess that’s what it was. Every single route you do opened your eyes just a little bit bigger to the truth of the events. It showed you each character’s background, motivation, and just personality in general.

Characters

I don’t know how to delve into the characters without giving out spoilers. Let’s just say I became so suspicious at the end that I still question whether it really was as portrayed or if there was something more to it.

Justin is my least favorite character. Gosh, he was so clingy, so nosy, so irritating. If it was the real life, I would have avoided him like the plague. There was absolutely nothing like-able about him, I don’t even know.

Kyle is okay. But he’s just not my type. In all otome games, guys like him are the ones I do just to complete things. But I do know that lots of people go crazy for his kind of character.

Elias, on the other hand, is absolutely my type. From the looks, to the personality, and even to the character background. Everything just works. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t eye him from the beginning.

Steven was kind of just okay to me because he’s also not my type. His saving grace was that I was actually intrigued by his character setup. So he was kind of a more interesting version of Kyle for me.

But, well, after completing the game, a lot of the above opinions changed or just straight up disappeared.

Lessons

There is a lot to be learned from this game. In the story, in the character interactions, in the mini-game you play inside the game. From lessons about life, love, relationships, trust, control, family, money, contracts, etc.

It was definitely a reminder for me about the real world.

Self Reliance (2023)

Given the opportunity to participate in a life or death reality game show, one man discovers there's a lot to live for.

JayBell: I think this movie has a great premise, especially for a comedy. I like how the movie uses this game as the trigger to get Jake Johnson to live and feel again and stop accepting isolation as his status quo. I like how the game motivates him to gain closure on past relationships. On the surface, the potential for a good movie is definitely there. I unfortunately think it does fail in execution.

My biggest issue is the behavior of his family. I guess their dynamic with Jake Johnson's character is supposed to be funny, but it just makes them unlikable overall. I get that they think he's lying or genuinely having a mental break, but doesn't that mean they should be more concerned instead of flippant? Instead of trying to get him real help, they bring in this lady with the sole purpose to prove themselves right and him wrong. The whole movie I was just waiting for a satisfying "I told you so" from Jake's character in the finale. But their reaction in the end is also flippant in a way. I think it would have been actually funny to have Jake's character play bits from his episode in the show to his family in the finale.

The romance just doesn't do it for me in this one. Anna Kendrick does a fine job, but the big "twist" for her character is kind of stupid and makes her character seem a bit mean spirited or even clueless.

Finally, the "ninjas" in the game appear too often to give messages to Jake Johnson's character instead of trying to kill him. That just breaks the tension because they feel like less of a threat overall.

P.S. It's crazy that Jake Johnson's character doesn't even ask for a contract or a lawyer or even bring it up or anything. I get that it's an underground game but it's wild that he accepts the terms without any real contract that states he gets money at the end of this ordeal. I would've liked some more clarity before he agrees to the game in the first place.

Anzie: I just wanted to preface this review with some facts.

First. Back in the day- God strike me down- I thought Jake Johnson was so hot. Ok. I watched Let’s Be Cops too many times. Ok. Maybe it’s bc I thought he was cute and funny. Looking back the answer IS CUTE and FUNNY. Bc Self Reliance Jack Johnson is HOT. Ok. Dear Lord pls pray for my soul bc if I find one more man over forty hot I’m going to cry myself into a mental breakdown.

Second. Anna Kendrick. Somehow when I hear her name I think YES. She’s so funny. And I forget shhhee is funny. But I somehow forget every movie she’s been in. Twilight. Mr. Right. Pitch Perfect. The Voices!!!! And Scott Pilgrim. A Simple Favor?? NOW THAT THATS A HUGE VARYING SPECTRUM OF GOOD TIMES? Ok and none of those prepared me for this.

Finally. The premise. Awesome. Entertaining. Would you play? Blah blah blah.

Okkk. First. His family. Annoying. That’s all I’ll say bc if I acted like this and my family reacted like that. Wow. Okkk. Bc they should be concerned. Either he is nuts or people areeeee trying to kill him.

Second. The fact that the whhhole time I couldn’t decide is he nuts??? Or the game’s real. Which I get is the point but it drove me up the wall. And it’s a clever idea and then how he’s working through past trauma and then how you have to understand to survive and be self reliant on your own and all that good jazz with the point they are trying to make through his character. But it’s soo bizarre I don’t even care about the message of it.

And I’m just gonna leave it here about the money part. $145,000 over 200 and something months. Bc it’s a million Greenland $ and not US currency. I’d scream and sue. Like I’m am wanting to scream and sue right now. Uuuugggghhhh. That reallly just made me be entirely done with it all. And I get it he grew blah blah blah. I’m done. Totally done.

Mini Movie Review

Holiday Date (Hallmark, 2019).

Grade: B minus.

Please note that this review contains spoilers.

OK, so I don’t know if I like this movie. I have to ding it quite a few points for the completely bananas premise, which involved both main characters lying and gaslighting this woman’s family for the entire movie and them in true Hallmark fashion, none of the family members are remotely mad about this, and everyone gets along in the end.

So the actual plot is that this lady gets dumped by her fiancé a week before Christmas. Why he couldn’t have just waited until after Christmas IDK. The first question that it made me think about is did he know that she was planning on introducing him to her family? Because it seems like breaking up with her when he knew she was about to mention him to her family would’ve been the best time. If alternatively, she was planning on bringing him to her family for Christmas, and hadn’t even mentioned this to him when Christmas was less than a week away is another thing entirely. That seems kind of crazy. Maybe it’s my fault for trying to inject logic into a hallmark movie.

In any event, she is left by this guy that she was engaged to but she now is alone and has already told her family that Ethan is coming and is “Mr. Christmas”. That’s when she goes to a holiday party and meet this dude that is an actor and who wants to “connect” with small-town life, so he agrees to be her fake fiancé in exchange for being able to understand what small town living is like. The only thing is that he is Jewish.

As a gentile, I’m unsure, but from what I’ve gathered, he seems like one of the more assimilationist Jews that I’ve heard of. In the clip below, he goes on about how he’s so excited to get into Christmas and to put up lights and decorate a tree and sing Christmas carols and open presents and stuff like that. I could be wrong, but a lot of Jews don’t wish they were Christians. They’re really proud of their culture. Also, he does a recitation, if that’s the right word, of the prayer “Baruch atah Adonai, Eloheinu melech ha-olam asher kid'shanu b'mitzvotav v'tzivanu l'hadlik neir shel Shabbat.” However, he does it in what feels like the most gentile pronunciation I could’ve imagined. I mean the actor playing this person is Jewish from what I’ve gathered, and it’s all about him sharing his Jewish faith with these Gentiles, which is great, but him as a character, as a representative of all Judaism was really… confusing.

Like, it’s what I expected because Hallmark has gotten a lot of knocks from people in the Jewish community about their depiction in Hallmark movies as this group that wishes they could be Christians and not actually celebrating why they’re happy to be Jews. I knew that’s kind of what this movie was going to be depicting. It’s telling that most of the scenes about his Jewish culture involved the Christians being presented as good allies, and being excited to learn about this culture, which is also great, and not about why this culture matters to him. Like obviously latkes are delicious. Sufganiyot (jelly donuts eaten during Hanukkah) are obviously delicious. I don’t know. I liked it but I feel like the movie worked because it wasn’t just another two attractive white people and their one person of color friend in a absurd small town that doesn’t make any sense except during Christmas, making extreme life choices based on their love of the holiday season. It was about people connecting—but wow.

The fact that her family was totally fine with her lying and bringing a fake boyfriend, lying and implying that the boyfriend was Christian, and then revealing that they’re Jewish, revealing that the person isn’t even named Ethan. They aren’t an architect. Those two weren’t dating, but you expect your parents to believe that the dude who you bought as a prop to trick them is a guy you have fallen in love with and are now dating. Then, both of you decide to quit your jobs on Christmas Eve to do jobs that objectively will not pay enough to live in New York. And everyone is cool with it? That is a typical Hallmark movie ending.

Despite it being a ship fic of a lesser known pairing (Rosinante x Sakazuki) in one piece, I'm just in love with this story. Both the character development and relationship development between both Rosinante and Sakazuki has me rereading my own story. They're both side characters so in canon, they don't have much development, and this story slightly touches upon it, giving some depth into them. And it also touches upon a heated canon event that one of the characters had to partake it that makes them hated in the fandom without straight up removing their role in, and adds to the development of Rosinante in this story.

It's a lengthy one too, 13k words exactly!

2. In Life's Canon Universe ao3

This story is another favorite of mine because of all the ANGST, but also ends happily (kind of for one of them), which I like (I like crying my eyes out AND knowing it will be fine in the end, it's a weak spot of mine). It's a ship fic of Rosinante x Katakuri. Also another long one, but this is split into different chapters. (~17k+ words)

3. Time and Time Again ao3

Another ship fic, this time for Neal Caffrey and Matthew Keller from white collar. It's another favorite of mine because it's a story between two intelligent characters, one a criminal and other almost criminal. Each of the characters have a distinct way of talking and I personally think they mesh so well. Canon, Matthew Keller is a criminal too, but in this au, he isn't and the story also deals with the way his life and family would've been like if he hadn't been a criminal. It's a lesser popular pairing in the White Collar fandom but I wrote it awhile ago and I still love the way these two interacted in my story.

4. A Rundown of Impel Down Escapee ao3

I like this one because it's vastly different than every other story I've written. It's the first crack story I've written, and it's more of a not fic than anything. But it was fun to write and kind of just let go rigid guidelines I set for myself.

5. Wake Up ao3

This one is a bit controversial because it's an hermitcraft ship fic between Rendog and Docm77 (minecraft personas only), and while I don't ship mcyt people anymore, I'm still proud of the way this came out. It handles a very serious topic involving memory loss and fake memories. While the main premise of the story involves each world aka season, everyone's memories are wiped but this time, Rendog's memories aren't wiped. So the story deals with the aftermath of essentially losing everyone (everyone was forced into permanent sleep) and everyone suddenly being brought back only for no one to remember what happened. So Rendog has to deal with everyone believing he's gone crazy and has to battle whether or not what he's remembering is real or if everyone is right about him. But eventually, he finds comfort in the only person that believes, regardless of what's true or not, doc. There's just so much angst and hurt/comfort. And while it is a ship fic, romance takes a back seat to what rendog is feeling, and includes friendships and people making the wrong choices even IF they may have the best intentions.

The idea of this story is so good too, I'm in love with it, even IF I may not a shipper in that sense anymore. I was originally going to convert it to a platonic story so I could continue it with a prequel and sequel, but I wasn't able to find a way to do it.

It's another long one, ~19k words.

The Cabin at the End of the World | Paul Tremblay | Published 2018 | *SPOILERS*

7 year old Wen and her parents, Eric and Andrew, are vacationing at a remote cabin on a quiet New Hampshire lake. Their closest neighbors are more than two miles in either direction along a rutted dirt road. 

One afternoon, as Wen catches grasshoppers in the front yard, a stranger unexpectedly appears in the driveway. Leonard is the largest man Wen has ever seen but he is young, friendly and he wins her over almost instantly. Leonard and Wen talk and play until Leonard abruptly apologizes and tells Wen, “None of what’s going to happen is your fault.” Three more strangers then arrive at the cabin carrying unidentifiable, menacing objects. As Wen sprints insight to warn her parents, Leonard calls out: “Your dads won’t want to let us in, Wen. But they have to. We need your help to save the world.” 

I chose this story because of the movie trailer I watched based on this book. I’m an avid lover of books turned into movies, so figured this one would be right up my alley. Boy, I was very, very wrong. 

Let me preface that this is another story that has an amazing premise, but falls ridiculously short of being amazing. 

Andrew and Eric are two near-40 something partners who are vacationing in New Hampshire with their 7-year-old adopted daughter Wen. They think it’s going to be a relaxing week away from the hustle and bustle of the city life they’re normally used to. This turns out to be very wrong. 

Wen is out front catching grasshoppers when she is approached by a large man named Leonard. Leonard is friendly, and it’s obvious he is not there to do any harm to the young Wen. Together, they catch grasshoppers when she begins to grow uncomfortable by Leonard’s presence simply because he can’t explain why he is there in the first place. This feeling grows bigger when Leonard is met with three other people: Redmond, Adriana and Sabrina. Together, they are wearing button down shirts in red, black, white and pale colors along with jeans. 

Wen runs inside the warn her fathers that something is very wrong. Together, they all attempt to stop them from entering the cabin, but they fail. Andrew and Eric are tied up by the group, and Wen is allowed to roam freely though she never ventures very far from her family. Leonard and the others begin to explain why they’re there: they’ve all had varying visions of the end of the world, and that one of them, Andrew or Eric, will need to sacrifice the other in order to stop the apocaylpse. Sounds crazy, right? 

Eric is suffering from a concussion he received when trying to fight off the group, so is having a difficult time following what is happening. When they don’t make the sacrifice by the required time, Leonard, Sabrina and Adriane go into a trancelike state and murder Redmond right in front of the family with weapons they brought with them. After this, they see that earthquakes occurred causing a huge tsunami killing thousands and thousands of people, which is broadcasted on the TV inside the cabin. The first thing that Leonard mentions has happened. 

They get through the night, and Eric’s concussion begins to ebb away, and Andrew begins trying to make their escape plan by constantly messing with the ropes that were used to tie him to the chair. Wen, still allowed to roam freely, just turns into a catatonic person, doing as she is asked and not saying a word until she remembers the grasshoppers from the day before and goes absolutely ballistic that she may have killed them. 

The following day, Andrew is able to get himself out of his restraints, and makes a run for their SUV parked out front where he has left his gun. All of this occurs after he has a revelation that Redmond, who was sacrificed by the other three, is actually Jeff O’Bannon, a man who attacked him in a random act several years before the novels start in Boston. This leads Andrew to believe that the group is there because their homophobes, like O’Bannon was. This is difficult to believe and I’ll explain why later. Anyways, Andrew gets out and into the SUV, where he gets into a fight with Sabrina, but he able to access the gun he left inside the SUV in a gunsafe. He scares her off with a warning shot, and she takes off into the woods. He returns to the cabin, where he finds Adriane wielding knives, Leonard attempting to stop the ambush that’s happening, and Eric desperately trying to save himself and Wen, who is hiding in a bedroom of the cabin. 

Adriane gets some courage, and tries to attack Andrew, but he shoots her in the throat which causes her untimely death. Leonard suddenly becomes irate, which is outside of his nature given the circumstances, and he and Andrew embark on a rough fight over the gun. In an instant, Wen is there trying to help Eric, and in the next, she is lying in a heap of her own blood on the floor, being accidentally shot when Leonard squeezed Andrew’s hand which happened to be on the trigger of the gun. 

Leonard doesn’t take Wen’s death well, as he obviously had some sort of notion of care for her. Andrew and Eric are obviously besides themselves at the death of their only child. Andrew and Eric are now free, and they tie Leonard to a chair. Sabrina returns and explains that she is going to help them, as she no longer believes in the cause that brought them there. Once again going into a trancelike state, after explaining herself and what brought her to the cabin and to the others in the first place, she kills Leonard, placing a white mesh mask over his face, just like the others. 

Andrew and Eric begin the trek to Remond’s truck which is located three miles up the road. But it is here that we begin to see that Eric is beginning to believe what is going on. Just like Leonard explained, the horrible things happening in the world happens after one of the four dies: Redmond - the earthquakes and tsunamis, Adriane - the plague by exposing the bird flu that is plaguing China, Leonard - planes falling from the sky and finally, the end of the world shortly after Sabrina would die. She is steering them in the direction of where they had left the keys to the truck, and when she finds where they’re hidden, she also finds a gun. Going into a trancelike state once again, she pulls the trigger killing herself, leaving Eric and Andrew reeling. After that...nothing happens. 

Overall, this book had an amazing concept. Very The Strangers and Cabin in the Woods feel once again. The novel started off so strong, but ended so...flat. We don’t get that satisfying ending finding out what happens to the stories main characters. We’re lead to believe that the end of the world is happening, but could be just the thunderstorm that is passing through the area as it is raining and is dark outside despite it being during the day. Eric and Andrew don’t sacrifice one or the other, and they go on together saying they’ll continue to go on. 

Ultimately, I couldn’t really keep up with the story. It kind of was all over the place, and spent more time with no action that there being action in the story. I wasn’t scared by the novel, nor was I entranced by it. Which is sad because again, the concept of the story is there and is strong, but the writing just didn’t play it for me. 

I will watch the movie once it releases, as I am a fan of Jonathan Groff who plays one of the titular characters and of course, Rupert Grint of Harry Potter fame is also starring in the film as Redmond, so I have to give it a go. Maybe they’ll do a better job of explaining things that I may have missed within the story. But ultimately, it left me feeling icky that a child was killed for no reason, four people lost their lives for absolutely no reason and we aren’t even given any answers to many questions that arise within the novel. 

I gave this 3/5 stars.

Tall Marinette.(I admit I might be projecting a little here.)

One day, she took out something from someplace high and the whole family realized that ‘holy shit when did you get so tall?’

Bonus if Jason comes back from a long mission and had a wtf moment because she was wearing 6-inch-heels and met his eyes with them on.

“Pixie?!”

You know how Bruce has the identity of Matches Malone to infiltrate the Gotham Underground.

While Jason does the drug deals more street crime stuff, Maria uses an excuse of being the representative for Red Hood excuse to mingle with the rich people who does crime on the side (Penguin), she uses it to go to black market auctions and buy some of the lost miraculouses which got into the hands of black market dealers.

Jason knows about it and acts as her ‘bodyguard’ anytime he can or sends one of his henchmen to be one with a death threat if she gets a single scratch on her.

Bruce is unaware of this. Or is he?

Mari helps with running WE since she is a little less busy with the vigilante side of things.

It started with Tim panicking about deadlines and Mari offering to help, to Bruce and Tim bullying the board to have her as co-CEO.

She has to be that and head of Afterlife. So she is very busy. Doesn’t know about what comes next….

Somehow the class comes to Gotham for a trip. It has been 3 years since her death.

Mari has changed her appearance since the day she left Paris. She has highlights in her hair after a ‘sibling bonding day’ with Jason. Her hair is kept short for convenience and not in pigtails. Along with her tall height and more confident aura, she is almost unrecognizable.

She rides a motorcycle too.

The class waits in the lobby for the tour and in walks this badass woman with aviator sunglasses, leather jacket and designer clothes which was all MT brand, making a lot of people swoon.

She takes off her glasses and walks past the class. Checking stuff on her phone and sipping coffee in her other hand.

She seems familiar but they couldn’t figure out why. (All except Chloe, Alix and Felix who are snickering in the background.)

Lila sees her and comments on how she must be a criminal with the way she dresses. (Lila internally freaks out because were her eyes messing with her? Because she looked a little like Marinette. Also jealous of the new arrival for stealing all the attention.) Alya takes the bait and calls security to ‘arrest’ her.

They just laugh. The class doesn’t understand, speaking in confused French.

“I am Maria Todd-Wayne, also known as designer MT. CEO of Afterlife and co-CEO of the very company you are in. I am allowed in here. Don’t judge a book by its cover.” she said in perfect French.

“But Lila told us you can’t speak French.”

“Who?”

“Lila Rossi, your friend. She told us that you and MT were dating.”

“Me dating myself. Okay I love myself because self-love is a thing but that is a whole other level. MT are my initials. Anyone who has a brain could have figured that out or at the very least do a Google search. I am not sure where your friend got that notion.”

“Hey, Bean, come on. We have a long day ahead of us.” Tim reminded her.

“Goodbye but cease the rumours or you would be escorted off the premises.”

As they rode up the elevator, “Tim, why are they here?”

“They are the lucky winners of the Wayne Enterprise Young Prodigies Contest. Why, Maria?”

“Lucky, huh.” She muttered under her breath. She might as well tell him. They are the Bats and they will find out anyway. “They are from my old class, the one you know…”

“Oh. Want me to send them back? I can do that if they are making you uncomfortable.”

“Nah. Too much to deal with. And it is unfair to send them back over a petty grudge. Besides, I could have some fun.”

“Anything that Bruce and I should be worried about?”

“I swear no killing. Just because Jason came back from the dead, hell-bent on killing. Doesn’t mean I am too.”

“Cool, just don’t do any property damage or traumatize our employees.”

“I might need you to erase some footage later and tell Bruce about this.”

“Some brownies, my favourite coffee cake, the ‘special’ brew and you have yourself a deal.”

So basically she just showed up around where the class was ‘by coincidence’.

Talk to a few people and take them out of earshot of the rest of the class.

End the conversation by saying a few things only they and her would know. Insides jokes and secrets. (I pick her old childhood friends like, Nino, Kim and maybe Sabrina)

Uses Trixx to turn into a walking dead version of her 15-year old self and disappears as they freak out about how she knew that secret/story.

Freaks them out further by appearing again in front of the whole class and pretending not to know their previous conversation.

Mari manages to get Lila alone.

I should also say that Lila thought that her curse was making her see MT as Marinette.

It terrifies Lila when she finds out that MT is actually Marinette, not dead but alive after all this time and apparently living the high life she wanted. This fact made the Italian swell up with jealousy.

“I hope you are not lying about me again, Lila Rossi. Like you always do.”

“What do you want with me? I swear I didn’t say anything else about you.”

“Aw, Lila. Don’t recognize me?”

Maria flickers and Ladybug is in her place and later, the Marinette that appeared in her bedroom and back to normal.

“You! How? Why are you here? Why can’t you leave me alone?”

“Why not? I mean you did take away nearly all my friends, my parents and made my life a living hell. If you think about it, I am just repaying you the same favor. How are the others? Treating you well?”

“What did you do to me, you bitch?”

“I just put a curse on you. The ghosts of your past will haunt you until you stop.”

“Stop what?”

“Stop Lying, Liar. They all feed and grow in power from your lies. I wonder what would happen in a few years if you kept this up.”

“You think you can get away with this. This is war and I have already beaten you once.”

“Oh Rossi. This isn’t a war. It’s a death sentence.” With that she disappears.

Lila tries to tell her class that MT is actually Marinette. She is met with crazy looks. Some of them look like they want to believe her but don't because they don’t want to look crazy too.

Oh. Adrien wasn’t on the trip because his mother didn’t want him to go to the crime capital of America although the crime rate has gone down a little due to Hellbat curing some of the city’s bad energy..

Right after Lila told the class about MT, Scarecrow came to steal some Wayne tech and the class got caught in the crossfire. So later, it was brushed off as Lila seeing things due to the fear toxins.

Joker made the mistake of kidnapping her. Once was enough to never try that again.

(It involved the use of nearly all of the Miraculouses, old and new. He was thoroughly humiliated at the end of it and his picture by the time Hellbat was done with him was on the Batfam’s Christmas Card. Like I said she doesn’t kill but making them beg for death was okay.)

It coincided with Jason’s Birthday and the video of the incident was ‘the best birthday present ever.’ The uncensored version was watched at the next undead siblings bonding day. Damian included.

After hearing a few rumours about what happened, most criminals were glad for Hellbat’s rare appearances. (which happens once a month and during really busy time of the year)

There was a time where Penguin was carrying out one of their plans and when Hellbat showed up, all of their thugs surrendered instantly. (No Batman did not pout at the fact that this French girl was more imitating than him.)

Scarecrow used his newest batch of fear toxin on her during the first year after she died.

He was astounded to see her still standing and she later proceeded to beat the crap out of him while being under the toxin’s influences.

He has tried to stay out of her way since then.

She saw Scarecrow as Hawkmoth and said a lot of things in French which scared everyone because she said it with so much hate, anger and in a very menacing tone that everyone is like ‘I am not touching this.’

It took Red Hood and Nightwing to restrain her from further beating Scarecrow up.

He was one of the people who sympathised with the Joker after the Incident.

The next was Riddler being so arrogant in his plans and managed to get Hellbat and Spoiler into a death trap.

“You know I have a few regrets in life. And my final one is that I got captured and am now going to get killed by a walking fashion disaster.”

“Hey! I made this myself. I will have, you know.”

“You have a brilliant mind but no sense of fashion at all. When I get out of here, I am going to burn that thing with you in it, for your crimes against fashion.”

“What is wrong with it?”

Cue a lot of roasting of Riddler’s costume and Spoiler adding more fuel to the fire.

They manage to escape while Riddler is crying on the floor, having an existential crisis.

The thing was no one knows why Riddler was silent the entire week after encountering Hellbat and crying when anyone mentions it.

They now think Hellbat is the scariest one in the Batfamily, second to Batman and tied with Black Bat/Orphan.

The few who find out what really happened in the warehouse that night. Blackmail material on the Riddler.

Three ( four if you count Penguin) of Gotham’s biggest villains of the Rogues Gallery scared of Bats’ newest addition. Hellbat was not someone they wanted to mess with.

Magic crisis stuff. Like a world ending event thing. Dr. Fate says they need the Miraculous jewels but the last mention of them had been in Paris a few years ago and had vanished since then.

Costantine looked at Batman. “You know who you have to call.”

Batman calls Hellbat. Who hasn’t been introduced yet to the JL.

“Ah. Bats. Not that I question your authority or anything but how can your newest ‘ward’ help us?”

She takes off her helmet and reveals her face and more importantly, her earrings.

Tikki comes out of her hiding place.

“I am the current Guardian of the Miracle Box and wielder of the Ladybug miraculous during Hawkmoth’s reign in Paris a few years ago. Any other Questions?”

“Oh great Guardian. Tikki. It is an honour to meet you.”-Wonder Woman, who else.

“You too, Princess Diana. Pass on my regards to your mother.”-Tikki

A huge face-off and the big evil is defeated.

WW asks abt HM and gives a horrified face at the end of her story. Nearly everyone who eavesdropped on the conversation was.

"Forgive me, Guardian for not aiding you in your hour of need.”

“It’s okay. I understand that there are other crises, world-ending ones that JL have to take care of. I am better now. Mostly.”

“I doubt it with those revenge schemes I found lying around. But she is getting there with her therapist.”-Batman

“I hate you, Dad.”

“Did you just call him Dad?”

“No….”

“Do you see me as a father figure?”

“I see you as a nuisance with how nosy you are with my personal business. So you are more of a bother figure.”

“I see you as part of the family too, Daughter.” (Got that reference anyone?)

“Jason was the one who adopted me.”

“Legally you are adopted by me.”

Maria with Pikachu surprised face because nobody told her that. “My life is a lie.”
