I've been having dreams/not dreams that someone is in my bedroom with me at night, and they keep trying to lay down in bed with me. Or they are already in bed with me. They aren't doing anything; just sharing the bed/sleeping. Sometimes it's people I know, sometimes it's not. And I say dreams/not dreams because I think they start as dreams, and I always end up that weird stage between awake and sleep where I have to force myself to wake up to end it.
I don't know why it keeps happening, but I don't like it. And it doesn't help that one of my roommates said she walked past my room the other day and swore she saw a person standing in my room. So yeah, that's what's been happening in my life recently, and I don't know what to do about it lol

I've known all my life that music was important to me. As a constantly evolving & transforming scorpio it was hard to express my feelings to others and myself.
Music has always had my back in that department. It was like: "Yes! 👏🏽 You get it! This is how I'm feeling & you felt it too at a moment in time!"
I also use art to express myself as you know from previous posts, but I enjoy the process more than the feelings that come after I'm done.
💜 Keep in mind I'm a ♏ Sun, ♌ Rising, & ♒ Moon.
I say all of this this to ask:

Hey witchblr if anyone has an opinion or information on where to find out more about this I'd love to know
I haven't even gotten out of bed yet because I don't want to lose this. Last night I went to bed and had 4 separate dreams, like wake up afterwards really confused and go back to sleep again, dreams involving
1) racing down a long stone hall to be the first the touch a chain hanging out of the wall at the end, I think to earn my freedom
2) eating a meal of noodles at a park bench in a meadow with a massive tree, and being certain to keep the chain in my hand at all times, no clue what it was connected to but it was important
3) keeping a chain around my wrist, like a bracelet, except it wasn't jewelry it was just a kind of thick chain of metal
4) sweeping a chain back and forth along the ground to either lure or keep something away, what is was I don't know
Each time I'd wake up and reach for the chain, and be really confused about why before I tried to fall back asleep. I'm not certain it's magic or deity related or something but I don't normally have separate dreams with a vivid through line so I thought I'd ask

Hi Witchblr, I need help!
Recently a Friend of mine (I'll call her B) has told me that she has been having trouble sleeping for many years. Apparently she often wakes up in the middle of the night feeling as if she's being watched by someone, and her dog even started growling. Immediately I recognized this as "symptoms" of a spirit draining her energy. I asked my tarot deck and I got the two of pentacles, which is supposed to mean (in a yes or no question) that it's undecided, while at the bottom of the deck there was the devil. So I thought, and she agreed with me, that this spirit tends to leave and come back after a while, since it doesn't happen every night. I made her a protection amulet (that I yet have to give her) but now she told me that while she wakes up, if she tries to close her eyes she starts seeing horrifying images. It could be that her mind is playing tricks on her, but this has been going on since she was very young so I'm concerned. Is the amulet enough or should I try to do something more direct with the spirit? I'm not a baby witch and I know how to protect myself, but I haven't had any experience with the astral realm. I want to help her, as this can also strengthen my magic and be a challenge for me, and there isn't anyone else that she cpuld rely on. So, have I done enough?

*Do Not Reblog*
There are witches who are well established on Witchblr whom I see my white mutuals reblog from, whom I know me and my fellow witches of color have had unpleasant encounters with because despite their good points, they're still talking about everything from very white, Eurocentric, and privileged points of views, and their refusals to drop their sanctimonious know it all attitudes to spare even one moment to listen to what any of us ethnic minorities have to say have left very negative experiences in our wakes.
But I don't blame my mutuals whom I love dearly who aren't witches of color, because how would they know? They haven't experienced what we've experienced. They haven't spent lifetimes in environments in which every moment of everyday there are things in their paths that they can't look away from. And in a way, I'm glad. They're such good people. They don't deserve to be hurt. I wouldn't wish racism and xenophobia upon anyone for my life.
But another part of me, also wishes I could make more people see the world through my eyes, even just for a while. I know they would listen to me, bless their hearts deeply. But I think I will always notice things that they don't, which I bring to the witches of color, what we know we don't need to explain to each other. I know it's not something any of us can help. But I still wish, if only.

Hello again witchblr I have yet another question:
Can deities, spirits and other patrons make scents randomly appear out of nowhere??? If so does it usually mean something because tonight and yesterday morning i have had four scents randomly appear out of nowhere: Refrigerated Strawberry cake (yesterday afternoon when i was the only one home and i was just waking up), the spesific scent of eggo chocolate chip waffles fresh from the toaster (tonight about ten minutes ago and i am the only one in the house that is conscious), wet river rocks fresh from the river but specifically those round, slightly porous, grey ones (same as the last one but about 5 mins ago) and then shortly followed by the scent of wet, uncooked clay, specifically the grey clay that is used for making pottery and baked in a kiln. And for those who i know will ask no i dont have any room scents that have those smells, either nobody else was awake or around when i smelled these things, and no there are no other known reasons that could cause these. I dont yet work with any deities but ive been getting the feeling that loki has been hanging around.

What Kind of Witch Are You?
Often when considering a path of what type of witch you would consider yourself, you may wonder, what category of witch do I fall under? Luckily, you will discover there are at least 20 different types of witches. Here, I’m going to compile the main categories of witches and underneath if they have any subcategories, list them. Hopefully this list will help you narrow down what path you would like to move towards. Below each description I will add links to learn more about each distinctive craft.
Tumblr media
Formal Types of Witchcraft
Gardnerian Witch
Gardnerian Witchcraft is basically what started it all. Gerald Gardner, the founder of this type of witchcraft is known as the Father of Wicca and credited for creating the wiccan modern movement we have today. This type of craft is very secret, formal and structured through rituals of all kinds. If you were to look up modern Wicca today you would find that Wicca and Gardnerian witchcraft are one and the same.
Wicca
Alexandrian Witch
An offshoot of Gardnerian Wicca, Alexandrian Witchcraft was founded by Alexander and Maxine Sanders who happen to be students of Gerald Gardner. This type of Wicca focuses specifically more on rituals and ceremonial magick.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexandrian_Wicca
Corellian Witch
Correllian Wicca began as a nativist tradition as one of the founders, Caroline High Correll was of Scottish and Cherokee Descent. The practice was heavily influenced by Scottish Aradian Witches and the Spiritualist Church as well. In the 70s, Corellian Witchcraft began becoming widely associated with modern wicca as it had begun to adopt more eclectic styles of witchcraft and universalism. The Correllian Craft also is a very formal type of wicca. Attached I have an example of creating a Corellian Shrine for worship to get an idea of what this magick involves.
http://www.witanherald.info/Shrine-Development-Booklet.pdf
Dianic Witch
The Dianic Craft is a form of Wicca, but varies in the sense that only Goddesses are worshiped and men are completely excluded. There are some covens that sometimes allow men into their covens but stick to the Worship of only goddesses, but more often than not you will run into traditional covens that do not support that. Dianic Wicca is also known to have some transphobic tendencies by not allowing trans women into their covens.

2. Thelema Witch
Thelema Witchcraft was founded by Aleister Crowley in the 1900s and this type of path follows his teachings. This path is heavily ceremonial as well and focuses on Egyptian rituals. Many aspects of this magick is influenced by Egyptian traditions.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thelema
Tumblr media
Culture Based Witchcraft
British Traditional Witch
This type of craft focuses specifically on British superstitions, spells and rituals. This path is heavily influenced by Gardnerian Wicca.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Traditional_Wicca
2. Celtic Witch
Celtic Witchcraft is based on Celtic and Welsh deities, mythology,  superstitions, rituals and often involves Earth magick quite heavily.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celtic_Wicca
3. Egyptian Witch
The Egyptian Craft is Wiccan based but involves the worship of Egyptian deities and their traditions. Attached is a link to a great book for beginner Egyptian Witches.
https://www.thebookstall.com/book/9781578637379
4. Hellenic Witch
Hellenic Wicca focuses on worshiping the Greek Gods and their pantheon. It also involves studying their mythology, and traditions. This is the path I have chosen and I find it to be personally quite fulfilling.
https://exemplore.com/wicca-witchcraft/Hellenistic-Wicca
5. Nordic Witch
Nordic Witchcraft is a type of Wicca that is centered around Nordic traditions, deities and Mythology. Runes, a type of divination, is directly related to this type of craft. The link I’m providing has some great ideas for Altars and books to read to get started on this path.

Tumblr media
Deity or Spirit Based Witchcraft
Angel Witch
Angels Witches mostly base their craft on the communication with Angels rather than communing with deities.
https://numerologist.com/magick/angels-magic-hell-yeah-heres-what-you-need-to-know-about-angelic-witchcraft/?utm_source=pinterest&utm_medium=kat&utm_term=&utm_content=&utm_campaign=blog
2. Animist Witch
Animist Witches believe that there is life in every being. This includes plants, rocks and animals and there is no distinction between them and humans. Animists see that we are all connected through the universe and all of us have spirits.
https://eclecticwitchcraft.com/a-beginner-witchs-guide-to-animism/
3. Faery Witch
Faery Witches work with the spirits called the Fae that are from traditionally the British Isles. This craft is not for beginners; it is advised that you do extensive research before you commune with the Fae.
https://tosalem.com/introduction-to-faery-celtic-witchcraft/
4. Luciferian Witch
This type of craft focuses on Lucifer as he was the “bringer of light”. Luciferians study Lucifer's qualities both bad and good to seek enlightenment.
https://www.learnreligions.com/luciferian-principles-95784
5. Secular Witch
Secular Witches do not believe or worship spirits and deities whatsoever and solely practice witchcraft.
Tumblr media

These are the main types of Witches that you can find more information about. These categories are generalizations that most people fall under and I think will be helpful in finding your way as a Witch in this world. I hoped you enjoyed learning about these different types of witches! Thank you for reading!

How Magic Works and Why It’s Important
I realized recently that some people may not understand the main underpinnings of how magic works across different paradigms. The psychological model is so widespread that much of Witchblr seems to think that it is the basis of all magic which brings them into conflict with folks who are working in fundamentally different systems. When the psychological model is taken as the only model, it leads to folks being disrespectful and then reactive when they're told as much. I really hate to keep seeing it happen like this so in an effort smooth out the dialog a little, I thought I'd let people know the lay of the land a little so people know what they're walking into.
Psychological Model
The psychological model posits that magic works by changing our inner world. Some people go so far as to call it a placebo effect. To be clear, this isn't to say that people who hold to a psychological model of magic believe it isn't real necessarily. It's more that that they tend to see the reality of magic is primarily cognitive.
This is quite a bit of mainstream Witchblr. It's also one of the most recent and modern and isn't rooted in many long standing traditions as far as I can tell. Spells for confidence or for self care. Astrology that's primarily focused on explaining your personality. The emphasis on intent alone as what manifests change. All of this is psychological and self oriented in nature.
Spirit Model
The spirit model is one of the oldest models I know of. There are a couple variations and I can't claim to know the finer points of them all. A lot of ceremonial and traditional witchcraft folks fall into this category. It mainly posits that magic works by getting spirits to carry out work for you.
Sometimes this is through offerings, pacts, or worship. Sometimes it's through binding. With many practices in between. Different systems often work with different spirits. Local dead, planetary spirits, angels, saints, spirits of the land - the spirit model posits that they are real and can act on the material and spiritual world.
Belief Model
The belief model posits that our belief in something makes it so. That's an oversimplification but at it's core, that's what it is.
It is distinct from the intent model. The intent model is built more on individual will that doesn't necessarily have a distinct belief accompanying it. This model also isn't psychological. People who use this model aren't saying well I believe it and it changes how I perceive things and that's how I make things work. No, this model says belief warps the fabric of the universe.
As you might have caught on, this is the basis that a lot of chaos magicians work from. Belief isn't simply a conviction in this model, gnosis is key. Gnosis is a type of single pointed concentration  or altered consciousness harnessed through various methods to essentially hack the source code of the universe. The belief model cannot be separated from the concept of gnosis in my book. It's foundational.
Why It Matters
While yes, it's definitely possible for these models to overlap and they aren't inherently incompatible, where I see so many people going sideways is when they assume everyone is working from a psychological model. This is especially bad because many folks are taking the aesthetics of magic born of the spirit or belief models and passing it off as if it is all psychological and then frustrated when those groups both point that out and say it won't work.
Sigil magic is a really good example of this. One thing I was completely stunned by when I came back to Tumblr was how many people believed that just inscribing a sigil on something would be sufficient for change. Sigils are found in both belief oriented systems and spirit oriented systems and how they work is so far beyond what is presented so often. So many writers here argue essentially "it works because I think this is how it should work" - which isn't how any other part of life works as far as I can tell and I don't know why magic would be different. This is where the idea that magic is in the mind conflicts so heavily with these other models.
This is related to the other issue I have with how wide spread the psychological model is it's aversion to proof and reproducibility which are highly valued in spirit and belief systems. I have not talked to any of people who've used sigils with the intent model successfully in a reproducible and externally verifiable way. I'm not saying they're not out there, like maybe it's possible.
But usually when I talk to folks about this, the conversation quickly devolves into validity. "But this is valid" people will say. The problem is each of these models have differing ideas of what valid is. A lot can be valid under the psychological model. But much less is valid in the other models. A wide scope of validity is great at making people feel better about themselves which makes sense for a model so focused on the self as the beginning and end of magic. But a narrow scope is much more effective for folks looking to reliably enact change in the physical world.
And this is such a difficult line to tread because so many people hear that and get defensive. This is where shadow work needs to come into play. People need to really be honest about what they're doing and where they fall in these groups. What are you willing to sacrifice to get what you want? How do you know your spells are working? What role does your ego/narrating self play into your perception of what's possible with magic?
Since I talk a lot about shadow work on this blog, let me leave you with this question in particular. Are you lowering your expectations of what's possible in magic to support your narrative that you are doing magic? I'm not shaming anyone with this. I absolutely was at one point in my life. And that was even after having direct experiences with possession and remote viewing. I lowered my expectation because I wanted to feel like I was good enough. I was good enough as a person, but that didn't make my magic effective. And I could hold both those truths at the same time. I really encourage folks to see what happens in their practice when they explore the same.
Know your model. Know the others. Focus on your craft and your aims.
That's what I try to do anyways.
