Hello! Soo I was wondering if I could request a RemusxReader oneshot/blurb with this scenario. Hear me out:
Reader openly talking to the girls about her crush on Remus she as had for years and just being so casual talking about how much she likes him and thinks he's amazing and hot, and how much she loves him (practically me simping for Rem) and she isn't embarrassed cuz she's known Lily and Marlene for years and they're used to talk like that and tease each other kindly (they usually do it to Lily). But they don't know that Remus and the boys are "accidentally" listening to their conversation.
Lmk what you think! Thankyou ly, byebye <3
moon river
(remus lupin x reader)
contents : fluff, the marauders being nosy af and eavesdropping, bad writing and not proofread :(
a/n : hello anon!!! ty so so much for the request and im so so sorry for taking so long in writing it. but hey i am here and im at your service ;) i rly hope u like this and it fulfilled what you asked for ☁️☁️

"[y/n] are you free tonight? or does loverboy has to take you away before midnight?" marlene said, linking your arms together as you two walked inside the common room.
"yes... why?"
"charms."
"charms?"
"assignment."
"oh-"
"yes."
"charms assignment that you need me to help you with?"
"obviously,"
"ah fine," you eyes slowly averted to the smile of none other that remus lupin. your mind goes fuzzy all of a sudden. he was joking and laughing with james in front of the fireplace. "he looks so happy today," you whispered to yourself, smiling.
"aww, you care about his happiness! just make out already," marlene said, wiggling her thick brows.
"that's one step beyond. not ethical," you shook your head in a mocking manner. "where's lily by the way? is she up here already?"
marlene shrugged as she opened the door to the dormitory, letting the warm air hit both of their faces.
later that night, you were helping marlene out on the charms essay and let's just say... it wasn't going as planned.
"marl, it's not how it is. you have to read the whole thing first then make your own summary about it so professor flitwick won't accuse you of plagiarism."
"but there's too many! why isn't there a charms to shorten paragraphs," she whined like a child on the sidewalk when their moms didn't get ice cream.
"liliana, help me over here. marl doesn't want to read,"
"i doing my eye mask, can't stand up," she reasoned stupidly.
"eye masks stick to your under eyes. yes you can stand up without them falling off. i wish remus was here, he can probably summarise four pages in just two minutes, he's incredibly smart," you closed your little tired eyes.
"if remus was here, he wont be teaching me anything, he would be too busy with you," marlene scoffed, although she is teasing.
"that's right," lily agreed. "remember this morning when [y/n] dropped mashed potatoes on his head? he didn't even blame her! he was blushing."
"also in dada, didn't you see remus was basically mumbling a mantra to be partnered up with [y/n], that's so sweet," marlene continued in a teasing voice, her charms assignment completely tossed of to the side.
you think to yourself, a conversation about remus late at night is way more interesting than charms. so you didn't budge. "aw yea he did, i saw," you cheeks turned crimson as you smile.
"isn't he just so... beautiful? i never look at anyone- except for my barbie dolls when i was five- this way. he is just right in every way."
"mhmmm keep going my love," marlene replied, after noticing a slight crack in the door with the marauders behind it. they were appalled when marlene saw them but marlene stays quiet, sending a wink their way.
at first, they were up here because james wanted to return lily's hair clip in which the boy slyly stole during class for this moment. but the others insisted to go up to see her reaction for some reason.
remus wouldn't complain though. he got to hear what the girl he loves for so much has to say bout him when he's not around.
your back was facing the door with your legs crossed over your chest and you hugging them. "his face may be pretty, but i think his heart is way prettier. for god's sake he holds my hand when i was anxious for that history presentation! he knows my needs so well."
"yes, that's so kind of him," lily urged for you to continue so she can tease you about it the next morning in front of remus lupin.
"and the best part is, remus respects women! he treats me like how i treat the girls and women around me. that's the hottest thing a guy could ever do," you dazed out, burying your face in between your kneecaps.
"ugh we love a respectful king, don't we girls!" marlene said purposely loud so remus can hear the conversation wide and clear from the door. his eyes were basically making heart eyes at the back of your head, his smile is like he had just won a contest and to hide that would be so dishonest.
"i told you to get her on a date sooner, she is the one!" sirius nudged remus rather harshly, but he was too focused on you.
"but what i don't like about him is the fact that he thinks he's not worthy of anything. he is. he deserves the biggest apology and happiness there ever was. he is like a moon river. i would roll my ship at night just to see the sparkles that he got. my huckleberry friend."
"isn't that enough to confirm that [y/n] loves you back, remus?" marlene shouted, her vision straight to the door.
your eyes widened in panic as your blood rushed into your cheeks. was remus hearing all of this? oh no freaking way- he can't be!
the door swung open, revealing the marauders who were standing with their jaws on the floor.
"i'm going out," lily spoke up, slipping out the door with james running after her like a lost puppy.
"you better do something," marlene winked at remus as she pushed him inside the room. remus nodded numbly, processing on what just happened. marlene was already dragging sirius down to give their friends privacy.
"hey, can i come in?"
"gosh i'm so sorry you heard all of that! you don't understand how embarrassing it is for me right now. i wish to disappear!" you scrunched your face, mortified by what his reactions may be.
"listen, uh, what you said were- it really makes me happy that you think of me that way because... so do i! i've been scared to say anything because i just- wasn't sure if you like me that way or not..."
"well, you heard it... what am i going to do now," you whispered the last part under your breath.
lucky for remus, he's got super hearing powers due to his lycanthropy so he heard that as clear as the sky is blue. "we can do what girlfriend and boyfriend do," remus answered shyly, playing with the end of your blanket that dropped from your bed.
"excuse me ma'am, you haven't asked me for dinner yet and now we're girlfriend and boyfriend?" you said in a joking manner to ease the tension out.
"okay let's do baby steps. come here, m'love, want to hold my girl," he opened his arms with his eyes closed. does he even know how cute he is right now?

Consider, Barret.
I'm always considering Barret!
He's my favorite FF7 character and his design in Remake is outstanding.
Tumblr media
Parts of Barret didn't age too well (his original character concept is "big and scary man" and he's the only major black character so uhhhhh) but I love that he's an unapologetic revolutionary and a genuinely charismatic leader that cares for the people under him as much as for his cause, whether or not they're even his responsibility.
One of the more endearing parts of the Remake is all the ways that Barret still cares for Cloud despite Cloud only being a hired merc instead of being a true believer in Avalanche; he gets worried when Cloud doesn't make it back immediately after they bomb Mako Reactor 1, and when they bomb Mako Reactor 5 and Barret thinks Cloud is about to fall to his death, Barret immediately says "Listen merc, I was wrong about you!" because he won't let anyone under his command die without him doing everything he could, even if all he can do is tell them they made him proud. He even offers to to stay behind and help Cloud battle Rufus Shinra, expecting Rufus to cheat (he does) and not wanting Cloud to sacrifice himself just to buy the party time to escape when that should be his responsibility as Avalanche leader.
He's even a loving father that spoils his daughter Marlene, but instead of making that detail something that contrasts his hardass personality, it's because he has a child that he's a hardcore eco-terrorist—his child's future is on the line.
I love that he's obviously the most well-read party member, quoting books about planetology and social justice in between all of his other lines being a Mr. T caricature. When the likes of Tifa grow uncomfortable with Avalanche's mission because of the ordinary people whose lives they disrupt too, he's always there to steady her and remind them all that their fight is literally for the planet's life; most Shinra employees are ordinary people just trying to do their best for their families, but Shinra itself is slowly destroying the planet and will kill them all, this fight must be done for everyone's sakes. A good man that serves an evil master must recognize his complicity before he can redeem himself.
One of the coolest things the Yuffie DLC does is expand more on Avalanche as a resistance group with different factions, with the main faction receiving support from Wutai. Barret's group is called "the splinter cell" because the other Avalanche factions don't want to associate with them since they think bombing the Mako reactors goes too far. The rest of Avalanche don't want to destroy Shinra entirely and ruin the lives of many people in the process, they want to force it into reforms.
Sonon and Yuffie end up chatting about this and Sonon says "The problem is, Avalanche is made of good people. They're soft. They want things like better work conditions, fair elections, equality for the undercity members. They can't do what needs to be done, and will eventually be against us. If you ask me, those guys in the splinter cell are who we should be supporting." Sonon is speaking as a Wutai agent out to destabilize Midgar in vengeance for Midgar burning Wutai to the ground back in the war, but it also really highlights how Barret is the only real force for change inside Avalanche, if all the other Avalanche factions are getting support from other countries and doing nothing while Barret is waging a full on war and earning victories against Shinra with only a gun, a girl that can punch good, and a twink with a big sword.
Also gameplay-wise Barret carries this fucking team on his back. Steelskin and his huge healthpool make Barret a tank (very important when many enemies can decide to give you the finger and wipe the entire team), and Lifesaver allows Barret to take damage meant for his teammates, which is critical for surviving many tough fights, but also makes gimmick/joke builds like Nailbat Cloud viable where you want to keep him on 25% health to have that crit chance and damage boost, but can't let him get slapped once or he dies.
That's on top of Barret's skills being your best ranged options in Remake that isn't spending MP (Aerith can do way more damage with spells but also dies to a sneeze without spending materia slots on HP Up), which is also highly important as half the enemies are flying around and Cloud can barely air attack until Rebirth reworked him. There's also bossfight gimmicks like The Arsenal's guns being interrupted by Focus Shot (you normally need Thundaga to stop it and Hard mode doesn't let you use items, making MP conservation really important) Maximum Fury being amazing at building stagger on bosses from the sheer hitcount and being very satisfying to use, and Barret's incredible Deadly Dodge allowing you to cheese the super annoying Brainpod fight because he swings his gun and hits all the Brainpods at once.
Finally, it's really funny how the Remake added in a big cosmic fate force called the Whispers that have the ability to raise the dead and cause or prevent disasters as fate demands it only for them to be destroyed by Barret and Red XIII shooting it repeatedly. Capital D Destiny, a fundamental force of the multiverse, was slain by the power of a guy with a gun and a weird dog.

Pairing: Lily x James
Modern AU
Merry (early) Christmas everybody!!! Here's the final part of The Pact. I finished this earlier than expected so here's an early Christmas present!!! I hope you enjoy! I'm the author (please don't repost) <3
Masterlist Series Masterlist Part 4 Read on Ao3
Warnings: kissing, miscommunication, meddling friends
Word Count: 2,923
Description: When the group needs to leave early it seems as if James won't be able to clear up their misunderstanding but maybe with some help they will finally have an actual conversation.
Taglist: @sylveryfire
“Get up Prongs!”
James felt someone jump on him. It was Sirius. No surprise there. It was an old habit of his from their time as roommates and even before that when Sirius came to live with him and his family.
“Can’t get up with you on top of me.” He grumbled.
Sirius rolled over to lay next to him on the bed.
“Get up! We’re leaving in a few hours.”
“What? I thought we weren’t leaving until tomorrow?”
From across the room, Remus responded from where he leaned against the doorframe, sipping some warm beverage. “There was an emergency with Neville. Alice needs to get home. Her husband took him to the hospital but she really wants to be there with him as soon as possible.”
If he wasn’t fully awake already, now he was. He sat up and looked over at his things. He hadn’t brought much. He could be ready to go in a few minutes. Maybe, just maybe, James could get away with sleeping for another half hour. The rest of their group would need to pack and make breakfast. That could easily take an hour given Marlene’s proclivity for sleeping like the dead. He had heard enough stories of her sleeping through fire alarms and people yelling at her to wake up to know that she wouldn’t be up any time soon.
“Oh no. I know that look. You are not sleeping in!” Sirius warned.
“But…”
“Nope. No buts. Everybody is up and eating breakfast, you’re the last one up for once.”
“Even Marlene?”
“Yeah, she couldn’t sleep so she was one of the first to be ready when Alice got the call.”
“Ugh. Okay, fine. I’ll get up.” He pulled the blankets off and stood up. Walking towards the bathroom, he rubbed his face in an attempt to dislodge the fog of sleep from his gaze.
He brushed his teeth and changed into some actual clothes, preparing for yet another long car ride. James just knew that this one was going to be even more uncomfortable than the first. At least with that one they mostly could ignore each other. It’s not like anyone was paying attention to them.
But after last night he was steeling himself for Lily pretending he didn’t even exist. He wasn’t even sure how this would work considering they were supposed to be dating for a few more days before breaking things off. Maybe this would work. If they thought they were having problems it would make their eventual breakup seem more reasonable and might limit their questions.
At least for a moment he had felt like maybe this didn’t have to be just for show, maybe she would give him a second chance. Now they wouldn’t be able to talk until they all got home and even then he doubted she would talk to him.
James had liked Lily since the moment they met in the bookshop. He had stopped by to talk to Remus about something only to find a gorgeous woman with long, red hair standing behind the front desk. His hair had been wet from running through the rain without an umbrella or raincoat, the droplets running down his face and neck. But he didn’t feel cold. The heat of her gaze was enough. He’d said that very thing to her, causing her to laugh and call him cheesy.
“That may be so but you still laughed.”
“Because you look ridiculous. You’re not even wearing a coat and your shirt is soaked.” she shook her head fondly. “Go on, stand by the fireplace or you’ll catch a cold.”
He did, but he still couldn’t tear his gaze away from her.
“Hey, what’s your name?”
She turned to look over at him from where she stood behind the computer and said, “Lily.”
“That’s a beautiful name.”
She arched an eyebrow at him.
“What?” He asked.
“I don’t think I’ve heard anyone say that without immediately following it with a ‘so is that your favorite flower or something?’.”
“Oh shoot, I was just about to ask that!” He said, a grin on his face.
“Really?”
“No. But I was going to ask if you have plans tonight.”
She smiled.
“As it so happens I do.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah, it’s with this new customer who wears glasses, doesn’t ask stupid questions, and has a proclivity for running in the rain with no jacket apparently.”
He smiled in relief, “Wonder who that could be.”
They looked at each other and started laughing.
“So what time should I pick you up?”
“Well I get off work at six so how about then?”
“Works for me!” He headed towards the desk and then continued past it. When he was at the door he said, “I’ll see you at six.”
James opened the door and walked back out into the rain. He had almost reached the end of the block when he heard a bell ring and Lily called out, “Wait! You never told me your name!”
He turned to look at her. “It’s James!”
“See you later James!”
“You too Lily!”
They smiled at each other and waved before she returned to her desk and he walked around the corner. It wasn’t until then that he remembered why he had even been there. He was supposed to give Remus the tickets to the show he wanted to take Sirius to. James figured he could just stop by their place and leave them on his desk.
That night they had gone out to eat and afterwards he had leaned in for a kiss. It had started off soft and slow before increasing in its intensity. After a minute or two she pulled away with a smile.
“Thanks for tonight James.”
“Can I see you tomorrow?” He asked.
“Sure.”
It was only later that she had decided that maybe it would be better for them to be friends. Lily was busy with graduate school and her job whereas James also had his own job. That didn’t stop him from flirting with her, nor did it stop her from flirting back. In the end they had only gone on one date and it had been magical.
A month or so later she met Snape and all of a sudden they weren’t talking. He had thought that all had been in the past and that she could see that he wasn’t that person but he respected her decision to distance herself. What hurt most was that she had decided to date someone else when she had said it would be too difficult to date him.
James understood that it was a bit easier because they were both in the same program and had the same classes but even still. It was hard watching them together.
Then they broke up and she still wasn’t talking to him.
When she first came up to him in that restaurant and asked him to be her fake boyfriend he thought that this could be his chance to convince her that he wasn’t the same guy he was when he was in school. He had changed for the better.
He stuffed his clothes into his bag and slung it over his shoulder. Looking around he spotted Lily’s stuff. She was probably waiting for him to vacate the room before packing.
Walking downstairs he was surprised to see everyone calmly eating breakfast. Someone had made pancakes. He dropped his bag by the bottom of the stairs and walked over to the table.
“Morning.”
Lily’s eyes shot to his before she pushed away from the table and brushed past him on her way upstairs.
Ignoring his friends’ puzzled looks, he stacked some pancakes on a plate and poured syrup over them. He sat down and dug in, the pancakes were absolutely delicious.
“So what was that about?” Marlene asked.
“What?”
“You didn’t even acknowledge each other. Did something happen last night? I could have sworn she slept down here. What did you do?”
“Nothing! I was just snoring and it was hard for her to sleep, that’s all.”
“And this morning?”
“She just wanted to get packed.” He shrugged. If Lily wanted to tell her friend what happened then she could come clean about everything if she wanted. It wasn’t his place.
His friends still looked a bit suspicious but they were quickly distracted when Alice came out of one of the other rooms, phone in hand.
“Oh good. You’re up James.”
“Yeah. How’s Neville?”
“Frank says he drank some cleaning chemicals out of a water bottle he was cleaning. He has no idea how much he drank so he took him to the emergency room just to be safe.”
“It’ll be okay,” Remus comforted, “We can leave as soon as Lily gets done packing. If she hurries we can get you to the hospital before dinner time.”
She smiled sadly. Her eyes are red and puffy from crying. It must be difficult to know her son is in trouble and not be able to do anything.
Lily came down the stairs, carrying her suitcase.
“I’m ready to go.”
“Great, I’ll go start the car and scrape the snow off of the windows.” Sirius said, getting up and walking outside while still pulling on a coat.
James hurried to finish his food and stood up, throwing the paper plate in the trash.
They all moved towards the door, carrying what little they still hadn’t put in the car. James grabbed his bag, put on his coat and shoes before walking outside. The cold air bit at his face. Rushing towards the car, he hopped in.
Remus took shotgun, Lily and Alice sat in the seats behind him and Sirius, which left James, Marlene, and Dorcas to try and fit all together in the very back.
Pulling out of the driveway, James hoped that the roads would all be cleared enough for driving or else this was going to be a very long trip. Thankfully they made good time, only stopping once to grab some lunch.
The sky was getting darker by the time they got off of the freeway and it was almost completely dark by the time they reached the hospital. Alice hopped out and grabbed her things, thanking them for a fun trip before rushing into the hospital to find her husband.
He hoped everything went well.
After dropping Alice off, they drove to Marlene’s apartment where Dorcas had left her car. They both got out of the car and then Sirius finally reached Lily’s.
Lily got out, grabbed her bag, and said goodbye to both Sirius and Remus, not even looking in James’ direction. He watched her walk away as Sirius continued to James’ place.
“Well, I’ll see you guys tomorrow.”
“Yeah, see you!”
“Bye James.”
“So, what happened?”
“What?” Lily asked.
“With you and James, silly.” Marlene responded. “You two were all over each other and then right before we left yesterday you totally gave him the cold shoulder.” “Did not!”
“Did so!”
Lily sighed and took a sip of her wine. Maybe going over to Marlene’s tonight was a bad idea.
“So are you two still together?”
Lily realized that she should probably come clean. She hated lying to her best friend. If she told her now then maybe she would at least be able to tell her what really happened.
“Truth is, we were never together.”
“What?!”
Ashamed, Lily looked away for a moment.
“Yeah, that night in the restaurant I asked him if he would be my fake boyfriend so you would stop trying to help me find someone.”
“Oh honey. You could have just told me to stop.”
“I did. I guess I figured if I pretended to date James and then we broke up then you would forget about it. We were going to break up a few days after the trip.”
“Then what happened?”
“I got a bit drunk and kissed him. He pushed me off and I went to sleep on the couch downstairs. And the worst part is, earlier I was talking about giving him a second chance. We could actually try dating. And then he just rejected me!”
“Oh my god. Lily, you idiot.”
Lily looked up at her friend, “What?”
Marlene was staring at her in disbelief. “He didn’t reject you, you dumbass! He didn’t want you to do anything while drunk that you would later regret and hate him for.”
“Fuck!” She looked at her friend. “I’m an idiot.”
“Yeah, no shit.”
“How am I going to apologize? He must think I hate him. There’s no way he’ll listen to me now.”
“Weren’t you both supposed to go to Remus and Sirius’ place for Christmas tomorrow?”
“Yeah.”
“He’ll probably be there so why don’t you go and apologize then.”
“That’s actually a great idea!”
“You don’t need to seem so surprised.”
‘Oh, stop!”
Marlene smiled at her friend. Little did Lily know that this was all going according to her plan.
Lily pulled up to the house and felt relieved when she saw James’ car. Hopefully he’d give her the chance to apologize for her behavior.
She walked up to the door and rang the doorbell. When there was no answer, she tried the door handle. It was unlocked.
Inside there were a lot of people, some she knew, others she didn’t. She spotted Remus and made her way over to him.
“Hey.”
“Hey Lily, you came!”
“Wouldn’t miss it for the world.” She smiled. The music was so loud she could feel her eardrums vibrating. “Hey, have you seen James?”
“No. You guys didn’t come together?”
She shook her head. He looked at her questioningly but said nothing.
Scanning the crowd for him, her gaze finally landed on Sirius. Maybe he would know where James was.
He didn’t.
Growing restless, she decided to look in some of the rooms. Eventually she reached the small library that Remus had cultivated. There was a book of his that she had been meaning to borrow but hadn’t gotten around to it. She walked along one of the bookshelves and, not seeing it, went around to the other side of the shelf only to walk straight into someone.
“I’m so sorry!”
The person turned around to face her.
“James.” She breathed.
“Lily.”
“Hi.” She smiled awkwardly.
“Hey.” He brought one of his hands up to scratch the back of his neck.
Neither of them could meet the other’s gaze for more than a few seconds.
“About before…” James started before pausing.
She looked at him questioningly.
“At the cabin?” She prompted.
“Yeah.”
“I know.”
He finally looked up into her eyes. She smiled softly.
“I should have explained.” He said.
“And I shouldn’t have left so abruptly.”
“Do you think that maybe we could try it again? Now that you’re not drunk?”
“Yeah, I think I could manage that.”
He leaned down slowly. Losing patience she reached up and pulled him in for a kiss. A very long awaited kiss.
Lily pulled away.
“And for the record I was not drunk!”
He swept her up in yet another kiss. It didn’t matter anymore because here they were. Finally on the same page.
The kiss was unfortunately cut short by several people clapping.
Pulling away, they turned to look at their friends.
“I told you!” Marlene crowed.
“What?” Lily asked.
“Remember when I said that Alice and I were going to set you up with someone? We actually already had somebody in mind.”
“Wait, really?”
“Yeah. James.” Alice said.
Lily looked over at James before turning back to her friends.
“Oh and Sirius and Remus were in on it too.” Marlene said.
“It was clear that you like Lily.” Remus shrugged.
“And we all thought that Lily might be willing to give you a chance if she had the opportunity to see you in a different light. I mean she really liked you before she and Snape started dating. We all thought that maybe a blind date would help you both find your way back to when you went on that date.” Marlene explained. “And then the two of you said that you were dating so we just didn’t question it too much because it was what we had hoped would happen.”
Sirius continued Marlene’s thought, “Until that morning at the cabin. We were all so distracted by Alice needing to get home that we kind of forgot about it but then you confessed to Marlene that you weren’t actually dating James and we all sort of decided to get you both to this party so you would be forced to work it out.”
“Wow.” James exclaimed. “So we both basically walked straight into your plan without knowing it.”
“Yeah, pretty much.” Marlene shrugged.
Lily and James looked at each other and sighed. Their friends were meddlesome but they loved them.
“Come on, let’s go back out to the party.” Marlene urged.
“We’ll be there in a second!” James called.
Marlene winked at Lily before walking out of the library, arm in arm with Alice. Sirius and Remus left right behind them.
“Oh, and James?” Sirius said.
“Yeah?”
“There’s a guest room right next door.” He grinned.
James picked up one of the pillows from a reading chair and threw it at his best friend.
He turned back to Lily.
“So…where were we?” Lily asked suggestively.
“Right about here.” He said, leaning down to kiss her neck, just below her ear.
They still had things to figure out but they were going to be okay.

🛒💋❌️🦅🤗🤩🎉⏳️
🛒 - what are some common things you incorporate in your fics? themes, feels, scenes, imagery, etc.
ok i've already talked about this one a bit but i'm trying to think if there's anything i haven't already said....i guess one thing that i find myself including in all my fics so far is like, the idea of love as something destructive? like a character either loving someone so much that they know they're going to have to sacrifice or destroy other things in their life, or a character loving someone so much that they don't know how to hold onto them without gripping so tight they leave bruises. i simply cannot get enough of love as horror and horror as love ♥️
💋 - first kiss fics. love em or hate em?
ehhhh neutral. first kisses aren't something interesting to me in and of themselves just because....idk i don't think they're that important personally like i take kissing somewhat casually ig.
❌ - what's a trope you will never write?
soulmates au. i will never write anything about soulmates i just personally do not find the trope even the slightest bit compelling i'm sorry 💀
🦅 - do you outline fics or fly by the seat of your pants?
i make like....very vague and messy outlines and then ramble to my sister in voice notes lol. so i'm not just raw-dogging every ch i write but i also am generally going off like. 2 or 3 bullet points.
🤗 - what advice would you give to new fanfic writers that are just getting started?
i've already talked about this here! but something i will say again amidst all these discussions i've been seeing and having about social media and capitalism and audiences:
try to frame your thinking around writing for connection, not consumption. it's easy to get caught up in the idea that for anything to be worthwhile these days it has to be seen and consumed by thousands of nameless people, but fanfiction really does not fit into that mold and you likely will not find the fulfillment you're seeking if you go into writing it with the mindset that your work won't matter unless tons of people see it. i promise that it is so, so much more meaningful to use fanfiction as a way to connect with other individuals and cultivate a little space on the internet where u just get to be creative together and enjoy something that is uniquely situated outside a profit economy 💕
🤩 - who is your favorite character to write?
talked about marlene and sirius already but honestly another character i love writing is dumbledore 🙈 like i love making him into this sort of manipulative morally grey character it's just sooooo fun
🎉 - what leads you to consider a fic a success?
writing it lol 💀 no but actually like a fic is a success for me personally if it's something i enjoy reading back later, because i'm not lying when i say i write stories for myself that i want to read. and then if like even one person interacts to talk to me about my writing and i get to connect with someone over something i've written that's like....dream come true!!! hooray!!
i think it's really easy to get caught up in a numbers game but anytime i find myself worrying about how many other people are reading my writing i force myself to sit with those feelings and think about where they're coming from, and then to reframe my thinking. and sometimes it's hard, but it's really not healthy for me to be writing fanfiction for any single person other than myself, so! that's that.
⌛️ - how long does it take you to write a fic or a chapter?
honestly it varies a lot but like. with the hand that feeds i'm now going on month 6 of writing, and atyd sirius's pov took me 6 months, so right now that seems to be the baseline? but they are vastly different lengths so 💀 and also it took me an entire year to finish my captive prince rewrite, which is around the same length in its entirety as thtf, so! and alice look at me only took like 2 days, but that's a short one.
with thtf i've been aiming for around 4k words per ch and i feel like....on average it takes me maybe 4 hours to write a ch? like 1 hour per 1k words? but of course those 4 hours are usually broken up and interspersed with distractions and writers block and general life, so....yeah it's honestly just hard to give a good estimate lol

Petrichor. The earthy smell filled your heightened senses as you felt him coming near you. As much as it intimidated you, it was bliss, somehow it relaxed you. But maybe even in that bliss you were aware how he affected you. Your back still towards him you started walking away from him, everyone was congratulating him on quidditch pitch after his marvellous performance against Slytherin, and here you were walking away from him.
You told Remus that you rather snuggle in your blankets and relax before the full moon but he was stubborn, just like you, and dragged you to quidditch pitch. It was even alright till you had to sit in the rain and watch the match but it all blew up when he saw you sitting in the stands, still on his broom he caught your eye and winked at you, causing a rush a shiver to run down your spine and feel the gross butterflies (it's not like you were looking for him all around the pitch). Alright maybe you were. But that doesn't mean it meant something.
Actually it meant everything. He was gorgeous, more than beautiful. He was breathtaking.
You almost were out of the pitch when a hand wrapped around your scarred one and you internally groaned. Turning around and coming face to face with your worst fear.
He looked at you with those freaking ocean blue eyes. Inhaling deep breath, you stared back at him, directly in his eyes.
You didn't know if he was intimidated by your glare or just trying not to laugh at your cowardice, when his throat bobbed when he gulped.
He released a airy laugh and said,
"Won't you congratulate me for my amazing performance?" He tilted his head, acting innocent. And honestly, he was looking adorable.
Shut up.
'All I want to say is that you are gorgeous.'
"Your ego is big enough without me inflating it." Your words betraying your thoughts. It did nothing to him but made him smirk a little more.
You rolled your eyes and turned around and started walking away.
"At least come to the party!" His voice bounced and reached you.
Merlin, why he is so gorgeous.
Tumblr media
You internally groaned as you felt Lily shaking your shoulders.
"Female Lupin, if you don't get up right now, I am going to get male Lupin and make you have a good conversation with him."
"But Lils!" You whined. You had no intention in going to that ruddy party, where James bloody Potter would be.
She sighed and sat down next to a lying figure on the bed. She started running her hands in your hair, humming softly.
You looked at her. Actually looked at her. What was there not to like? She was perfect in studies, had the most magical eyes, the softest hair and kindest heart. On the other hand you were nothing like her.
You were a monster.
Each full moon, you hunted for lives, each full moon, you became a monster.
But no one knew that, except a handful of people. And unluckily, he too knew that. What phased you more was that he was ready to take a risk upon his life by being with you and your brother in those dark nights where you both lose yourselves to your inner monsters.
You always felt comfort in thinking that it was all for Remus, you just got to be a part of it due to you having no other place than the Shack. Who knows that if it hadn't been because of your condition, he would have noticed that you existed?
You were shaken out of your thoughts when you heard a loud bang on the door. Lily looked at you in confusion but gave you a look when found you doing the same to her. She got up and opened the door and found Marlene smiling giddily at both of you.
"What are you two doing here?" She exclaimed.
"The party has started!" She exclaimed and now did you notice that her words were slurred.
At least there is alcohol.
"Marlene...the party just started and you are drunk." Lily said with sigh, disappointment evident on her face.
Marlene just grinned, flipped her hair and started descending the stairs whilst saying something along the line,
"It's just the starter."
Lily turned towards you and opened her mouth to say something but we're stopped by the sudden thumping sound that came from the stairs. You got up quickly from your bed and looked downwards with Lily on your side.
On the stairs, Marlene was laying face on the top most stairs, her hair sprawled on the floor just outside your dormitory.
A gasp left Lily's lips and she crouched down to look at your friend, while you were trying your best to stop the laugh that was about to leave your lips. You too crouched down to her level but before you could say anything Marlene suddenly jumped and sat with her legs crossed, facing you both.
Lily gasped and your eyes went wide with shock but when you both looked at Marlene, she was just giving you both a cheeky smile.
"Merlin, women! Thought you were possessed for a moment!" You exclaimed with a hand on your chest.
You got no reaction from her, instead she just stood up and pulled you both too in a standing position.
"I forgot that I was bribed to drag both of your arses downstairs."
You squint your eyes and raising a brow you said,
"Who bribed you?"
Her face light up and smiling widely, she threw her hands in the air and exclaimed,
"Pames Jotter!"
Lily smacked her hand on her forehead, you winced just thinking how painful it would have been, assuming by the sound.
You heard Marlene's giggles and turned towards her.
"Get it? Pames Jotter is James Potter!" She giggled harder and smiled widely.
You visibly shivered at the name. You eyed the blonde in front of you and started thinking of all the things that you could use to convince her and let you go.
You slowly approached the opportunity,
"Marlene..."
Marlene who had broken into a dance, swaying Lily with her stopped abruptly and looked at you. All humor was wiped away from her face.
You sighed then looked at her,
"You are not drunk, are you?"
She turned towards you and smiled sheepishly,
"I don't know what you are talking about."
"You are forgetting that I am the twin of Remus Lupin. We notice small things."
Marlene sighed and looked to be contemplating something before breaking the facade.
"Yeah, alright, I was acting." Lily hit her arm as soon as the words left her mouth and Marlene grumbled about how she was kind of pissed off by the Lupin siblings in a not so respectful way.
"Why?" You whined to Marlene.
She rolled her eyes and said,
"Because I know that you were not going to come unless practically dragged down.
"So?"
"So? So? Just because you have a crush on the school's golden boy doesn't mean that you should rot in the dorm when everyone else is having a swing."
You felt flustered about how obvious were your feelings for him, you opened your mouth to retort but you couldn't find a better reason. Afterall, it was the reason you refused to be down at the party. You sighed and tried to ignore your friends' pitying faces.
"Okay, let's do this, we go to the party, have the time of your life, whilst we find something that you don't have to interact with him."
"And how we do this?" You raised an eyebrow, seriously questioning your friend's mind,
"I mean, how are we going to do this? He was the one who organised the party."
Marlene let a smirk form on her face and said,
"Technically, the party was organised because of him, not by him."
"Yeah, and that helps a lot." Lily rolled her eyes.
"You don't get it Lils! We are going to be so drunk and stay as far as possible from him."
You clapped your hands and said,
"Yes! We will get drunk and stay in our dorms! Go Marls, bring some drinks!"
Marlene rolled her eyes and took a threatening step towards you.
"Okay, enough, now you are going to get ready or I am dragging you just like this."
You opened your mouth to say something but,
"Nope! No, no more whining!" She cut you off.
She then clapped her hands and said,
"Alright, both of you get ready, I'll see you downstairs!"
She smiled and kissed your cheek before descending down the stairs.
You looked at Lily and sighed. When you saw her smirking you gave her a dry look and finally accepted your faith.
Tumblr media
"Alright, girl, slow down." Remus said from your side, where he had been standing and rubbing your back for the past fifteen minutes.
After you came to the party, you were convinced that Lily and Marlene were not going to leave your side. But who were you kidding? They left you ten minutes in the party, saying that you need to live up and actually let James have his way with you.
You almost scoffed at the thought. James wanted nothing but to tease you by just assuming you fancied him. Only if he knew how true that was.
You were about to take a sip from your cup when it was snatched away from your hand,
"Hey!" You hit Remus on his arm for it but he did nothing other than shrug.
"You almost had enough to last you a lifetime."
When he saw your sour expression he sighed,
"Listen, I don't have any problem with how much you drink. If I am being honest, I love it when you get drunk, you spill all your secrets but I don't want you to grumble when you have the baddest hangover."
You gave him an odd look with your arms folded over your chest, you said,
"I don't tell any secrets when I'm drunk."
"Oh you so do."
"Do not."
"Do too."
"Tell me about one."
"You got the biggest crush on James."
You opened your mouth to counter his remark but your words died in your throat. Swallowing hard you whispered,
"I didn't…"
A smirk formed on his lips,
"You did."
You held your head in your hands and propped your elbows on the drink table near. You wanted to have the time of your life and here you were, finding out that you told your brother about your crush on his friend.
"You don't have any problem with it?" You mumbled with your head still in your hands.
Remus saw your sour expression and pulled your arm lightly and said,
"Hey, don't be sad now."
"Yeah, my brother found out that I have a crush on one of his best mates is not concerning."
"If it makes you feel better, I think he likes you too."
You gave him a dry look and took one more cup and gulped it in a single sip. The liquid burned your throat but atleast it was good enough to lighten the pressure on your head.
"Have you heard the way he talks?" You asked Remus who raised an eyebrow, clearly finding amusement in your condition. You gave him an annoyed look and continued,
"He talks like he knows all about everything. 'At Least come to the party', bloody buffoon. He–he knew that I would react this way and still! His voice is like the clawing of nails on iron. It gives me headache!" You looked at Remus who still had an annoying smile on his face,
"Why are you smiling?" You asked him annoyed.
"Why don't you say this to his face? Maybe he will go away" He suggested and you thought about this, maybe he was right. You found him looking behind you, you followed his eyesight and you frown deepened. Another glass down.
In front of you was James Potter goofing around with his best mate Sirius Black when other people were gawking at their sights.
"Doesn't he feel scared about how much people are attracted to him?" You mumbled to yourself but Remus heard you anyway and chuckled. You turned and glared at him.
"Honestly, why don't you just say all this to him? You know, it would be better." He said.
"You wait Remus Lupin till I find out about the person you like, then we will see." You turned towards the table again only to find the person you were not so subtly judging only to find him gone from there. Frowning, you raise your cup back to your lips and empty its contents in your throat. A shiver ran down your spine as the liquid burned your insides. You were starting to feel the outputs of the alcohol inside your system, your head started feeling dizzy and it felt really light. You turned around to find Remus surrounded by the Marauders this time and one of them was looking at you, he was looking at you.
Sirius draped his arm around your shoulder, breaking you out of the trance. You stumbled a bit as the alcohol in your system started taking a toll on you.
"Where's your boyfriend Y/N?" He asked you in mock concern.
You rolled your eyes but it did nothing other than increase the slowly growing headache you had.
A chuckle passed James's lips making you look at him, and unfortunately (or fortunately) he looked at you at the same time. You quickly diverted your eyes and shoved Sirius's arm from around you.
"Very funny, Black."
He grinned at you whereas you were slowly getting more and more dizzy.
"He still looks so scared whenever he looks at James."
You tried to hide your smile but it slipped anyway. Maybe you didn't know but your smile made James grin.
"Wait, why is he scared of James?" Remus asked suddenly. Your eyes widened at his words.
Oh shoot he didn't know.
It seemed like they too realised their mistake. They started stumbling over their words and you knew it was all on you.
"Where is Peter?" You asked, trying your best to change the topic.
Remus gave you a curious look but didn't question further.
"Er—Remus, come dance with me, won't you?" Sirius offered his arm to Remus, his nervous expression fading into a wide smirk. His words caused a blush to tint on Remus' cheeks and a small smile to form on his lips.
"Sure." And with that, they both left your drunk self with a very sober looking James Potter.
"Um–I think Marlene was calling me, I am going." You were about to walk away before he caught you by arm and pulled you back. You stumbled a bit, clearly due to intoxicating alcohol, or was it because of him.
"You never spend time with me." He pouted looking at you with those ocean blue eyes.
You were in such a daze that you didn't even react to his words. One reason was that now you were completely intoxicated and the other was that it was him.
"Well...you should take it as a compliment that I talk to everyone but you."
He was about to reply when suddenly darkness spread across the room. Shouts and protests rang out in the room, all increasing your headache.
Your hands frantically searched for something to hold on, when a bigger hand enveloped yours in it. It took time but your eyes adjusted in the darkness and you could lightly make out the face of the person holding your hand. Suddenly all the voices seemed to dim, suddenly the darkness was enough for you, suddenly you felt calm. Your stomach was churning but you were damn sure it wasn't the firewhisky.
You should think about the consequence of you touching my hand in the darkened room.
He pulled you closer to him by his grip on your hand. He wrapped his other arm around your shoulder and instinctively your head leaned on his shoulder.
You felt his breath hitch but you chose not to say anything.
"Someone was informed that McGonagall was on round, the candles will be lit again soon." He almost whispered to you. And just then the candles were lit again.
James expected you to draw away from him as soon as the candles were lit again but you didn't move from your position. Still wrapped around his side.
And he was definitely not complaining.
"James...dance with me?" You asked, lifting your head from his shoulder. You looked so innocent and adorable that he couldn't deny your face.
Or because of the fact that he was never in a lifetime going to lose this opportunity.
"Okay."
And just like that you both started to sway along the rhythm, so lost in your world that no one else existed for you two.
"You know what, you always scared me." He admitted, making you giggle.
"Why?" You asked, your head on his chest as he guided you both in a swaying way.
"First, you are Remus's sister, second, you are damn good with your tongue." It took him a while to understand what he said but till you were in a giggling fit. You were laughing so hard that you had to hold him so you wouldn't fall.
"Wait—wait, I didn't mean it like that!" He exclaimed, his hand wrapped around yours which was holding his shoulder. But you couldn't stop laughing, and that resulted in you missing the smile on his face.
When you finally stopped, you looked up to find him waving to someone. Following his gaze, you found a beautiful brunette from Ravenclaw giggling and waving at him.
Something inside you bubbled, whether it was the alcohol in your system or you were actually being brave that time, you nudged his arm and made him look at you.
"Is she your girlfriend?"
His eyes widened at your words, he whipped his head between you and that girl before shaking it violently.
"Merlin, no! She's actually the daughter of one of Mum's friends."
"Oh."
James looked at you and the way your shoulders visibly relaxed at words and your head went between his shoulder and neck, resting there.
"If it makes you feel better, I'm single."
You again, moved your head from his shoulder and this time he found an adorable pout on your lips.
"It doesn't." You said. He raised an eyebrow and said,
"It doesn't?" And you shook your head.
"It's worse actually, because you are so gorgeous that it hurts."
Your eyes fixed at his face, and even intoxicated, you were able to appreciate his beauty. He was gorgeous in every way, he was a good person, he had an aura around him that made everyone around him happy, one of the reasons you hated him, he was beautiful. He was gorgeous. And his eyes, his eyes were enough to make you feel like, sinking, drowning, dying.
"Don't I make you feel happy?"
"You make me feel so happy that it turns back to sadness," your bottom lip jutting out.
"There's nothing I hate more than what I can't have, and you why? Because all my life, I lost so many things that I don't want to hope for what I can't have. And I'm so furious at you for making me feel like this."
James moved his hand and rested it on your cheek, making you look at him, he chuckled.
"It's not funny." You said, removing his hand from your cheek. Again resting on your head on his shoulder.
James kept swaying you both, still processing everything that had happened in such a less amount of time. He was slowly feeling you relax around him, the whole night taking a toll on you.
"Hey, honey, you can't sleep like that." He said lowly to you. When you didn't budge, he nudged your head from his shoulder,
"Don't sleep like that." He said, making a frown take over your lips.
"I'm not asleep, my mind is alive." You grumbled in a sleepy voice. You felt his shoulder shake from the soft laugh escaping his lips, making you look up at him.
James could see the exhaustion and sleep in your eyes and decided that it was about time, you both called it a night.
"Alright, I think it's time you leave."
A frown formed on your lips, removing any traces of the sleepy face that you had. A dramatic sigh left your lips, you said,
"Guess, I have to stumble home to my cats. Alone."
"Y/N, you don't have any cat, and you just need to go to your dorm." James said, too used to these kinds of antics, all because of a certain Gryffindor.
You pouted, moving yourself to hug him and resting your head again on his shoulder.
"But, Remus always takes me with him, whenever I'm drunk."
"Yeah, but I'm not Remus, and he might actually murder me for doing so."
You looked up at him, trying your best to do puppy-dog eyes. Your idea seemed to work as he sighed in defeat.
"Alright, but if Remus kills me in the morning, it will be your fault."
It took time but you both finally reached the Marauders dorm, and there was only one person there. Peter, and he too was sleeping.
James took you and made you sit on one of the beds in the corner. He was still standing over you, looking quite flustered. You ran a hand on the messy bed sheet and looked up at him again to find him filling a glass with water.
"Is this Remus's bed?" You asked.
"Yeah." He said before handing you the glass of water, which you quickly downed and handed him the glass back.
James crouched in front of you and started removing your footwears. You ran a hand through his dark curls and giggled when they got messier than before.
When he was done, he looked up at you, still sitting in the same position, he asked,
"You can sleep here now, Remus will manage, or at least Sirius would be happy to share his bed."
You pouted again at his words, making him frown a bit.
"What happened now?"
"You won't kiss me?" Your question took him by surprise. He didn't expect you to say that.
"What do you mean?"
You tilted your head at side and said,
"You don't like me?" Your voice was small, making him feel bad.
"Is it because of my scars?" Your eyes were slowly filling with tears making James panic. He jumped up and sat beside you, and quickly took your face between his hands. You were slowly sniffing till then, making his heart hurt.
"No darling, why would you think that?"
"My previous boyfriend left me because of that, didn't he?"
James pursued his lips at the thought of your previous boyfriend, remembering how heartbroken you looked that day.
"It's not because of that, love. It's because you are drunk." You scrunched your nose at his words and said,
"Did you just quote those stupid clichè books?"
He raised an eyebrow and said,
"I do remember you loving those cliche books."
"But, I want you to kiss me now." You said while your lower lip jutting out.
"How about, I kiss you in the morning?" He said with a hopeful look on his face.
You whined at his words,
"But James, I am sober enough to remember this."
He sighed in defeat knowing how bad it can get. After a while he said,
"Okay, so I will give you a peck on your forehead right now, then in the morning, I will actually kiss you?" That seemed to work and you quickly agreed. So that night James kissed your forehead and made you fall asleep. And still in your sleepy form, you actually told him how you felt for him,
"You are so gorgeous James."

Bonus:-
When you woke up the next day, you found yourself reliving all those things you did the night before and it certainly didn't help with your headache. You got up from the bed, trying your best to escape before things could get more awkward.
You almost reached the door when someone said your name,
"Y/N?"
You cringed, totally aware of the person to whom the voice belonged.
You turned around and came face to face with your worst fear. You opened your mouth to say something but he cut you off,
"Don't worry, everyone is downstairs. You were sleeping, so I thought it would be better to leave you. I didn't want you to commit an arson as soon as you woke, I have seen the way Moony gets if you wake him up early."
Suddenly there was an awkward silence settled between you two as there was nothing else to say. You clutched your head to stop the throbbing pain in your head.
James noticed this and made you sit on his bed. When you did, he took the spot beside you and handed you a vial. You looked at him confused, the he explained,
"Hangover potion, er—we kind of need it really often." He rubbed the back of his neck, embarrassed. You tried to stop the smile forming on your face and drank the potion.
"Y/N?" He asked, his voice soft, full of warmth. You hummed, your heart beating wildly in your chest.
"Did you mean everything you said last night?"
You turned to face him, only then realising how close you two were. You started feeling lost again in his eyes, so you just hummed.
"Even about the kiss?" He whispered.
"Even about the kiss." And just like that his lips were on yours, moving gently and slowly, afraid that this moment might get lost if used in heat.
Your lips parted after what felt like an eternity, but even that didn't seem enough. He rested his forehead on yours then he said,
"You are so gorgeous, my love."

Could you do a soulmate AU with Sirius?
Grey (Sirius Black)(Soulmates AU)
summery - Beauxbatons comes to Hogwarts to participate in the triwizard tournament in the year 77/78. During this time Sirius Black meets his soulmate but they are separated by war. Reunited years later in 1982 at a wedding they begin what they started when they were only teenagers.
OR
Soulmate AU whereby soulmates can see each other phycological scars through a coloured 'aura' around the person.
warnings - very slight mentions of sex. Lots of time skips. I won't be writing in a French accent as I am very Scottish and have no idea how the French accent effects words so I'm just writing it the way I usually would and you can imagine the French accent lol.

Hogwarts was everything the group of 6th year beauxbaton students had expected and more. The large castle was just as homely and charming as they had hoped and they found themselves quickly feeling at home among the students, particularly the Ravenclaws. The students from Hogwarts overall seemed much more welcoming towards the French student than they did towards those that came from durmstrang, y/n put it down to the social climate and assumed it wasn't the best time to be from a school that so heavily and openly encouraged dark magic.
None the less within only a month y/n had gotten used to her life at Hogwarts and was enjoying the experience, especially considering she didn't have to really worry about the tournament as she wasn't competing.
"I like it here, the people are nice" Genevieve Blanchett, Y/ns best friend said as they made their way over to the lake. It was quite cold as autumn was in full swing however they had dressed appropriately and decided to leave the carriages to sit down by the lake, giving them some peace.
"They are nice, it's crazy that this could have been my school had my parents not chosen otherwise" y/n replied, laying down the small blanket that they had brought with them so they could sit without messing up their skirts.
Y/ns parents had both gone to Hogwarts and met there. they considered for awhile sending their daughter to Hogwarts also but due to them living in France at the time they decided against it.
"But then you would never have met me" She laughed, her accent thick.
"You know that is a good point Gen" Laughing also. They finally sat down and y/n pulled out her book from her back. It was a muggle book she had found at her local book shop when she had been home through the summer, 'wuthering heights' she hadn't gotten too far yet but she could safely say she was enjoying it.
"Would it be alright if we sat with you" Came an unfamiliar voice after the pair had been sat for around half an hour. Genevieve busy trying to finish an essay that was due in the next few weeks and Y/n reading her book. She looked up and found a beautiful red headed girl stood beside an equally pretty brunette, both smiling at them. They both sported red ties, telling the pair of visitors that they were from griffindor house, the brave.
"Of course" Y/n replied with a smile. "What are your names?"
"I'm Lily Evans, this is Marlene McKinnon. We seen you sitting here and thought we'd come over and introduce ourselves. The tournaments purpose is to make friends after all" The ginger girl, Lily, told them earning a smile from both girls, motioning them to sit which they did.
"I'm Y/n L/n, and this is Genevieve Blanchett" she said, the two hogwarst students nodded their head in acknowledgement.
"withering heights, I love that book" she exclaimed before asking where Y/n was and what she thought of the book so far.
Before y/n had the time to answer the question she spied something very odd over Lilys shoulder. A group of 4 boys where quickly approaching them, which wouldn't have been too odd had one of them not had a faint aura of dark grey surrounding him. She had never seen anything like it and had been stunned speechless. She had never heard of people who glowed colours and she had definitely never seen it before. She was too shocked to notice that he had stopped in his tracks when he seen her, his friends carrying on without him and not even noticing he had been left behind.
"Hello my love" a tall brunette with messy hair said while staring at lily. Y/n was still staring at the boy who was stood alone a few steps away from her, unable to tear her eyes away from him.
"Hello James" Lily said in a bored voice.
"Sirius what are you doing" James, as Lilly called him, yelled over at the boy who was stood alone. Sirius was an odd name, y/n thought as he seemed to snap out of his trance and run over to them, his eyes never once leaving her.
Genevieve cleared her throat from beside her and she finally looked away from the tall black haired boy and towards the three girls around her who were all watching the pair with confused looks. She coughed quietly before staring up at the boys infant of her, putting on a smile and trying to push aside the confusion she was feeling
"Hello, I'm Y/n" She introduced and the tallest of the boys smiled back at her.
"Remus" He mumbled, reaching out and shaking her hand "This is Peter" He continued, motioning to the smaller boy in the back who gave her a lopsided smile.
"And this is Sirius, I don't know what's gotten into him he's usually much more talkative" Remus finished and Y/n let herself look back at the odd boy with the grey around him.
"Nice to meet you" He spoke quietly. His voice was deep but he had a kindness about his tone that she hadn't expected from the look of him.
"I'm Genevieve. It's been lovely meeting you all, hopefully we become friends however we have to get back to the carriages soon or they will start to wonder where we have gone" She said kindly, smiling at the group of Hogwarts students, though especially at Remus.
"We could walk you back" Remus offered though the suggestion was rejected politely by Genevieve who blushed at the boys kindness but ensured that it wasn't necessary. Y/n smiled at the exchange before she rose to her feet, the rest of the girls following suit and y/n reaching down to pick up the blanket and folding it under her arm.
"We'll see you at dinner ye" Lily asked the pair and they nodded, ensuring that they would look for them in the hall later in the evening.
***
With the next day came the news of the yule ball, a dance that was held during every triwizard tournament on Christmas Eve. Of course they still had over a month to prepare for the dance, it only being the beginning of November. Y/n had written home as soon as she was able to and had asked her mum to send her a dress as soon as possibly.
In the mean time she decided she would research the odd boy that was Sirius Black. When she had learnt his full name she had recognised it immediately and recalled a conversation she had heard a few christmases ago between her parents and their friends. She suspected however that Sirius wasn't like the rest of his family, he certainly didn't come across as evil and twisted as the people her parents had been talking about.
But due to this past knowledge she knew that he wasn't some magic creature that glowed, he was a normal person who to everyone else just looked like an extremely attractive teenager. It didn't take her long to realise that nobody else could see the grey that surrounded him.
And so she spent every second grey she had free in the library browsing as many books as she could about glowing men. She obviously never found anything but none the less she didn't stop trying. Based off his reaction to her she assumed that to him perhaps she looked odd also in some way. She wasn't sure in what way and it's not like she could ask him but she was almost certain he didn't view her as normal either.
Eventually after what felt like 100s of books she found one that seemed to explain what was happening, though the girl struggled massively to believe it. The book stated that when two people are destined to one another they have a connection that nobody else can see, this connection shows as an aura around said person which is coloured based on the individuals emotions.
The only things that indicated that this wasn't what she had with Sirius Black was that it was in a book of myths, 'soulmate folklore and myths' to be more specific. But maybe it was real and so few people experienced it that it was believed to be a myth. She had never heard of it before but this seemed to be a perfect description of what was happening.
She flipped to the next page which held a table that explained what each colour meant.
Red: Anger or lust.
Blue: Calmness.
Yellow: Happiness.
Green: Disappointment.
Purple: Excitement.
Grey: Regular sadness or stoicism
Black: Coldness or depression.
Pink: Love
White: Neutral happiness or contentment.
She felt her heart sink when she read the description of grey and black, especially when she recalled just how dark the grey colour was surrounding him. She suspected it was almost black.
She decided to check the book out and when she turned out of the library the next thing she knew she was bumping full force into somebody, pulling back quickly and leaning down to pick up the book that had fallen from her hands. She straightened herself up and brushed her hands down her blue robes, ridding it off any creases.
She started apologising to the mystery person but when she finally looked up at them her voice died in her throat.
"I-I'm sorry I wasn't watching where I was going" She whispered, staring at the boy in front of her. She noticed that his bubble of colour had gotten even darker.
"That's no problem, are you alright?" He asked, breaking their eye contact to look down at the book held in her arms. "Looks older than us, what's it about"
"Oh just a bunch of rubbish to be honest" She answered quickly, not wanting to give him any indication at what she was really looking into "and I'm fine, it was just a bump"
"Maybe I'll read it when you're done, find out about some rubbish" He grinned and she returned the smile.
"Are you heading back to the carriages" asked the boy, motioning with his hand to the large entrance doors in front of them.
"I am ye"
"I'll walk you back"
"Oh no that's alright, it's cold out and you'll have to walk back" she assured him quickly.
"I insist, and we always have warming charms"
A comfortable chatter filled the air around them as they began their walk to the carriages at the far end of the grounds. She found herself very at ease with him and there was no moment of awkwardness once they had began to talk. They discussed lots, from friends to school work to the dance. Finally after around 10 minutes of walking they reached the carriages, coming to a stop near the doors.
"It was nice talking to you, hopefully I see you again soon" He said looking down at his hands.
"I'm sure you will" She smiled before rising to her tip toes and leaving a gentle kiss on her cheek, only lingering for a few seconds before turning away and entering the carriages without looking back.
***
The yule ball had approached faster than y/n had anticipated and before she realised how close it was she was stood in front of the mirror adjusting her dark blue floor length dress in the mirror.
Her date was one of her friends from beauxbatons, she had hoped deep down that Sirius would ask her but he never did. Over the months that had past since she had met the boy she had done more and more research into the aura soulmate theory and had come to the conclusion that Sirius was her soulmate. whether they were friendship soulmates or more she didn't quite know yet. But she still liked it.
She finally decided that she was ready to go and made her way out of the dorm room, finding her date. Louis was stood beside the fire and looked over at her when she entered, smiling at her.
"You look lovely, maybe Mr Mysterious like steal you away from me" He said referencing Sirius, walking towards her and linking her arm through his.
"I doubt it, but maybe" She joked back with a grin. They quickly made their way out of the carriages and as they stepped out the door into the cold winter air they spied Remus, who had after week of persuasion and hyping up plucked up the courage to ask out Genevieve.
"You can go in Remus, she won't be long she was just finishing up" Y/n smiled at the boy who was clearly feeling out of place.
"Alright thank you, I'll see you later" He responded quickly, leaving to enter the carriages and leaving the pair to descend to the castle.
The great hall was decorated beautifully with snow falling from the celling but disappearing before it could reach the students below, there was live music at the front of the hall and the whole room was decorated in white.
Making their way to the drink table they picked up some of the punch from the bowl and made their way over to one of the tables. as they sat down she spied the marauders sat at a table on the opposite side of the hall, Sirius' eyes trained firmly on her. She smiled over at him and he returned it without hesitation.
They had talked only a few times over the months since she had bumped into him and they got on well but they didn't seem to cross paths all to often, or at least very rarely when they were alone. she had quickly realised that he didn't have a good relationship with his family when they bumped into his brother in the year below them who he talked with very bluntly.
"You know, you could have always asked him out" Louis said with a chuckle as he watched the two staring at each other.
"It was too late to ask, besides he's probably already got a date. And you could have asked Millie from Ravenclaw that you've been crushing on but you never" She rebutted, the French boy blushing in response.
"Do you want to dance" He asked when the song changed and she nodded happily, getting up and making her way over to the dance floor. Within a few minuets the song had changed again to a much slower one and couples started the slow dance together. The pair looked at each other awkwardly, knowing that their feelings never went past anything platonic and a slow dance would be awkward.
They were spared from the awkward situation when she heard someone clearing their throat behind her, she seen Louis grinning cheekily at whoever it was behind her and based on his reaction she knew who it was before she even looked.
Slowly turning around she was met with a pair of dark eyes which belonged to a boy who was still surrounded by a dark bubble of grey which hadn't changed shade in months.
"Sirius?' She asked in confusion to which he simply outstretched his hand towards her.
"Would you like to dance with me" He asked her politely, watching her with anticipation. She was at a loss for words and Sirius furrowed his brows at the lack of words.
"She would love to" Louis spoke for her, and she quickly nodded her head, clearing her throat and accepting the offer.
The tall boy took her hand in his gently and pulled her into the crowd, keeping his eyes on hers. When they reached the centre of the dance floor he wrapped his arms around her waist, hers reaching up around his neck.
"You look beautiful" He whispered and she smiled up at him. For someone who was so confident with everyone else he lost all his charisma when it came to her. He was so shy he wondered if something must be wrong with him.
"You're not too bad yourself" She giggled and he laughed in response.
They fell silent for a few moment and y/n could have sworn they were in a room alone for everything and everyone other than him had disappeared.
"I read that book you borrowed from the library a few months back" He told her quietly. Tucking a hair behind her shoulder, his fingers gently brushed over her skin.
"And what did it tell" He only just heard her, her voice being so quiet.
"It told me that you are my soulmate and that you are always either happy or excited" He said with a smile "what did it tell you?" He returned
"It told me that you're my soulmate and that you are always sad" She replied with a frown
"Now that's a lot to get into love, maybe we'll talk about it another day"
"Are you happy right now?" She asked him, breaking their eye contact and resting her head against his chest.
"Happier than I've been in years" he answered, continuing the sway gently to the music, her wrapped firmly in his arms.
It was at this moment that Y/n noticed that the colour around her soulmate had in fact turned into a far lighter grey. It was now closer to white than it was black and she smiled at the change.
The pairs relationship only grew in the remanding months of the school year. They fell in love everyday and he told her about why his colour was grey. Before long their relationship had turned physical and they were rarely apart. She spent more nights in his bed than she did in her own and she couldn't say she regretted a moment of it, even despite the future they had in front of them though they didn't know it at the time.
When the school year came to a close the unofficial couple kissed goodbye alongside their friends who had formed a group after the relationship between James and Lily turned official. As did Remus and Genevieves. Sirius and Y/n were the only two not officially together. But they believed their connect was stronger, stronger than the need for titles.
"I'll see you soon ye" He asked her, his hand cupping her face.
"I'm sure you will" She answered quickly, she believed it too.
He leaned down quickly and pressed a kiss to her lips, pulling away when the headmistress called for the beauxbaton students to board the carriages.
"I love you" He breathed, finally pulling away fully and smiling sadly at her.
"I love you too" She said firmly, before turning around and leaving the beautiful school which was Hogwarts and the even more beautiful boy who was Sirius Black.

4 years later
The Wizarding War had taken its grip on the magical world almost as soon as Y/n and the marauders left school. Y/n being from a very magical family had known who Voldemort was for years, he had been at school with her father and after he began gaining power in 1970 her dad had worried that he would come knocking, wanting more followers and looking to his old school mates and acquaintances to fill these spots in his ranks.
Her father, having been in Slytherin house during his school days, fell into this category and it had caused a great deal of stress on him, ultimately resulting in his choice to sent his daughter to a school in a different country to avoid any possible cross over.
It was in late 1978 - only months after Y/n graduated - that the war got bad, the government had become corrupt and the monster had his ropes in every aspect of Wizarding society all across the world, almost one in four people you talked to were a follower of his.
It wasn't long after this power was achieved that Voldemort's followers came to their door and met with her father, trying to recruit him due to his impressive auror performance over the years.
Her father had pretended to agree and let the men out of the house, telling them he would appear at the Black family home in a matter of days to speak to 'Tom', as he called him. However as soon as they left bags where packed and the family of three went into hiding for over four years, never staying in one place for longer than a month at a time.
She had only stayed in touch with Genevieve though she hadn't met her in just short of 3 years. She heard bits and pieces about Lily, Marlene, Alice and the boys from Gen. They were all fighting in the war against Voldemort and by 1981 they were all also in hiding. She would always look for him in the papers and would sit up every evening to listen to the death toll and names listed, listening out for any recognisable names but especially his.
She had missed him direly through the war and had constantly worried about what he was doing and if he was safe.
The end of the war came suddenly on halloween night in 1981, with a couple in south east England being murdered and their one year old son somehow surviving the killing curse. Something happened that night that resulted in his survival and the disappearance of Voldemort, nobody knew what but there was too much happiness for people to really care that much at the time being.
Y/n returned to her family home with her parents and quickly contacted Genevieve to meet for a coffee the following day. Genevieve had managed to keep her relationship with Remus Lupin going through the war and by mid 1980, at only 20 years old, they had welcomed their first child. Y/n was informed through a letter that she was the god mother of their daughter Hope Y/n Lupin. She was yet to meet the child but was to meet her soon.
Genevieve told her during their coffee that her and Remus had been waiting for the end of the war to get married and now that it had finally ended they had booked the event for three weeks time, wanting to be married sooner rather than later.
"I want you to be my maid of honour" She smiled, holding her coffee mug between her hands.
"I would love to" Y/n replied excitedly.
"We've all missed you, you know" Genevieve said sadly
"I've missed you all too, so much" They fell silent for a few moments before Y/n finally asked the question she had been wondering.
"How is he" She asked, fiddling with her hands as to avoid eye contact.
"I'm honestly not sure. None of us have seen him in nearly a year. He writes occasionally to keep us updated on his general location and any updates on his life and we return the owl with a letter of our own though we never know where the owl goes, just that he gets it" Genevieve responded with a pensive tone to her voice.
"He missed you the most, Remus said it was noticeable within weeks of you going into hiding" she continued "He was constantly worried something had happened to you and I think my presence just worsened it because we are such good friends"
"I'm sure he'll come to the wedding, he wouldn't miss it" Y/n replied, trying her best to brush it off. She would be lying if she said she hadn't worried about him everyday but this wasn't information she was going to share. The news that he had gone on the run for as long as he had only worried her more and a part of her didn't want to know the colour of his aura for she knew it would be bad.
"Remus wrote him a letter, he wants him and James to be his best man instead of just one. We haven't heard back yet but he knows the date and location"
***
The wedding was beautiful in every way. It was small and was held in a church in Remus' hometown, followed by a reception that was attended by 50 people. Sirius hadn't yet shown but y/n believed he would.
Her dress was a beautiful blue colour, similar to that of their school robes all those years ago. She had shed a tear at the vows and her beautiful little godchild had followed her around all day, having not long learnt to walk.
When the reception came y/n found her seat at the front table two seats away from the happily married couple. Lily was sat on her right and James next to his wife, the two had a son named harry a few months after Remus and Genevieve had Hope and the little boy, named Harry, was running about cheerfully on the dance floor with the little girl.
The couple fell in to easy conversation with their old friend with lots of hugs and laughs being exchanged. After awhile she heard someone clear their voice behind her and she turned to look at the tall man who looked much like he did when she last seen him.
"May I sit here" He asked awkwardly, looking down at the name tag that clearly said 'Sirius Black' next to her own name tag, meaning he was to sit to her left.
"Of course" She answered in shook.
"It's good to see you again mate, is this you back" James asked quickly, standing up and hugging his best friend.
"I do hope so" He answered with a halfhearted smile. Lily followed suit in hugging him and giving him a reassuring smile. It was clear to Y/n that though she had missed whatever had gone down Sirius' hadn't left for good reason and it seemed everyone had been worried for him.
He had already sat down by the time she snapped back to reality and could hug him and so she chose instead to just look at him, it had been so long she could barely even comprehend that he was in front of her even though she had expected him.
"How have you been" He asked her gently, his eyebrows furrowed.
"Oh all right, it's better now we can live our lives normally again. Or at least as normal as we can given everything we've been through" She answered, staring down the table and noticing all the eyes on the pair. Remus looked thrilled to have his friend back.
She wished she hadn't noticed it but it didn't take her long to realise that the aura around him had gone from the light grey it was when she last seen him to jet black. It made her heart drop and she wanted to help but she suspected hers was no longer the yellow it had been when they were at school.
Seeing the next generation running around them as they fell into easy chatter made her wonder what would have happened if there was no war, if her and Sirius had been allowed to pursue their relationship in a natural way. Would they have been married by now like Lily and James? Would they have children? a house? She wondered many things because she knew these were all things she wanted with him.
The first dance began and the beautiful newlyweds took to the dance floor. The slow dance that had played at the yule ball in their 7th year began to play and a tear came to most of the halls eye and Louis who had been stood in the crowd watching them dance grinned over at her, remembering the yule ball.
"Would you like to dance with me" Sirius asked her shyly as other couples started to take the floor as well which she simply nodded her head to.
They found themselves in a similar position to that of the yule ball, his arms around her waist and hers around his neck.
"I've missed you so much" She whispered against his shoulder, her heels making her taller than usual.
"I missed you too, more than anything" He told her, kissing her head gently.
"What colour am I" She asked him quietly, they had decided when they figured out what the colours meant that it would be best to keep it to themselves, not wanting to complicate things.
"Black" he responded sadly "You used to always be yellow, no matter what"
"I used to see the beauty in this world, now I see the truth" she said quietly "I guess that effects my colours"
"For awhile there was little beauty in this country, that's not how it is anymore. One day soon you'll be yellow again" he promised her and she smiled halfheartedly at him.
"And one day you won't be black or grey anymore. I'm hoping for yellow or white"
"I suspect pink" he told her, leaning down and capturing her lips between his own, moving his lips against hers.

7 years later
Marriage hadn't at all been what Y/n and Sirius Black had expected, they had heard stories from their married friends that the first 2 years were the most difficult, Remus and Genevieve had even come close to divorce in their second year, but the Blacks never found this to be the truth for them. They found that their relationship became rocky in the year after they had their first son, Charlie.
They hadn't planned to have children so soon, having been married for 4 years but both still very much struggling with the aftermath of the war that had ended 7 years ago. They knew they wanted children but they also knew that mentally they weren't ready to look after another person, not when they were as vulnerable as they were already.
Therefore when she found out she was pregnant she felt an automatic pang of dread, however to her surprise Sirius had taken it well. He had assured her that though it wasn't planned they could manage and would do the best they could.
The difficulty came when Charlie had been born. Sirius had struggled with the transition into fatherhood and had even at times left their family home for weeks at a time. This caused huge stress on Y/n, feeling as though she had been left to do everything on her own.
She started to resent her husband for not caring or trying enough when all she done was try. They would sleep in different beds when he was home and he barely seen their son for the first 6 months. It was when she kicked him out and forced him to buy his own flat that he realised what he had done, showing up at the house a few months later begging for forgiveness.
"I'm sorry Y/n, i'll do better, I promise i'll do better" He begged her, stood on the door step being drenched by the rain. When she had opened the door and seen him she attempted to shut the door on him, but he blocked it with his foot and asked her to hear him out.
"You had plenty of time to do better Sirius, it's not just me I have to lookout for it's my son" She snapped, once again trying to shut the door but stopping when he continued talking.
"Our son, he's our son and I love him and I want to be here, I want to do this with you" He said quickly, taking a step forward to be slightly covered from the rain.
"I want to fix things with you Y/n, I need you" he told her and she just nodded her head.
"We'll see" She said bluntly.
She wanted to take him back so badly. She thought about him every day and wanted nothing more than the fairytale lives that her friends were living in their marriages, not being on the brink of divorce and raising their children alone. But she couldn't trust him like she used to. She had a perfect image of him in her head and he tore it down and replaced it with someone she couldn't trust.
"Can I see him" He asked sadly, doubting he would ever get his wife back with her response.
"He's asleep"
"I'll be quick"
"You know where the nursery is" She responded, stepping to the side and letting him in the house. It was odd seeing him back in the home they had bought together though only she now occupied. He had always looked at home in the place, for the first viewing he looked at ease and fit in to the homely environment perfectly, somehow despite everything that happened he still did.
She followed behind him up to the nursery and watched him enter the room quietly. She leaned against the door frame and watched him look down at Charlie, who was three weeks of turning 1.
Charlie started to wake and when his eyes opened he quickly caught sight of his father and woke up quickly.
"Daddy!" He exclaimed standing up in the crib and reaching his arms up to his dad, making grabbing hands.
"Hi buddy" Sirius whispered, picking him up and kissing the top of his head, Charlie giggling and grinning.
"Where did you go" Charlies voice was far quieter than it had been initially and Y/n guessed that he was copying his dad.
"I went away for awhile, but I'm back now and I'm not going anywhere again" Sirius promised which got a large grin from Charlie.
"How about you go back to sleep and i'll see you later ye, it's late and mummy wants to go to sleep" Charlies face dropped at this, it clear to Sirius that he thought he wouldn't see his dad in ages again
"I'll be here when you wake up bud, I promise" At that he put him back in his crib and told him a story in attempt to get him back to sleep, at last he heard Charlie's breathing evening out and he turned to leave the room, finding his wife stood at the door watching. She stepped back again letting him out and she shut the door as gently as she could.
"What time does he wake up at usually" Sirius asked. It was now that Y/n finally took notice of the colour surrounding the man infant of her. He was green which was a new colour for him, it meant he was disappointed. Whether he was disappointed in himself or in not getting her back she didn't know, however she suspected it was the first as she could see regret clear in his features as he witnessed the life he had ruined.
"around 6AM, though sometimes later" She answer. He nodded and quickly told her that he would be here at half 5.
"Don't bother" She whispered as she began to walk away from him towards the spare bedroom and their old shared bedroom. He looked shocked and saddened at her words and went to protest when she continued on. "Its late, you can stay the night. You know where the spear bedroom is"
"Thank you, Thank you so much" He exclaimed
"If you genuinely want to be a part of this family again Sirius, and you truly love us, I will give you another chance. It will take time and it will take a lot for me to trust you again. But all I want is what's best of Charlie and he clearly needs you as well" She said, running him speechless.
"As well?" he asked after a few moments of silence
"Don't do that, you know I needed you and you failed. Merlin knows why I'm giving you the chance to hurt me again but I guess that's what I'm doing. Where are you staying" she asked him, opening the door to the spare bedroom and letting him in.
"James'" Sirius answered simply.
"I thought you got a flat" she asked him.
"I did, but I couldn't stay there on my own, it was to lonely knowing had a family and lived alone" he told her simply.
"You can stay here. I still have the divorce papers Sirius and I swear I will sign them. If you don't step up your game I will sign them, no matter how much I don't want to"
"I love you Y/n"
"I love you too Sirius" she answered "Please just don't make it so difficult for me to do so"

OTWTAS
Just a few quick observations about the text in Case of Tifa. I don't have the actual books (rip my wallet), but I've read the translation and seen shots of the text. These aren't in order btw.
Tumblr media
Cloud asking for permission to be Tifa's support. This exchange here is pretty flirty too, which is indicated by him blushing. Cloud compliments Tifa, suggests himself as support when she needs someone and then blushes about it.
Flirting.
Tumblr media
Tifa's thoughts here clearly show Cloud as a person who she knows she can be weak with. He's her anchor when she gets stuck in that awful place where she doesn't think and does something self-destructive and reckless.
Tumblr media
Literally states that Cloud didn't truly smile on the OG journey. This smile now is one of optimism and hope. He's not depressed.
Tumblr media
Literally says he's gonna keep on living. He's not suicidal.
Says he has Tifa to act as his support. He's not alone anymore, is what he's saying. She's by his side and before he didn't really understand that it meant in more than just the sense of an ally or friend, but that Tifa is everything he needs. She provides for him in all the ways that matter to him and that makes him smile.
Tumblr media
Marlene says Cloud and Tifa will be her parents for now. As in, not forever, but in the interim while her father is away. She says this to reassure Barret that she'll be okay. She's not erasing her father's importance in her life, she's trying to make his departure less painful for him.
Cloud and Tifa are surprised at Marlene calling them her parents, which means they had no intention or thoughts of taking Marlene from Barret.
Barret agrees with Marlene and tells her to look out for them. He isn't angry about how his daughter phrased this and is in fact relying on his daughter to look out for the dorks because he knows they're hopeless.
Tifa hasn't examined what they all are to each other, so Marlene reaffirms that they're family. This is important for Tifa because she lost her family over and over. She probably never wanted to label it because of a latent fear of losing her family. If she doesn't name them as family it won't hurt as much if something bad happens or maybe it'll prevent something bad from happening. We know Tifa is a bit superstitious.
Marlene draws Cloud into the family with her and Tifa. Cloud replies with conviction. His line isn't sarcastic. He's happy to be in a family with Tifa and Marlene. Although Marlene at some point in the future will return to her family with Barret and leave those two as a family without her. Which is the implication behind her saying "for now."
Cloud asks Tifa to make a lifetime pass for 7th heaven and she doesn't even ask why. She just does it. This is how Cloud gets fenrir. The fact Cloud is asking for such a huge thing and Tifa agrees without even questioning it is a grand romantic gesture on her part. She's just given away thousands of gil by doing this. Cloud asking her means he's trusting in her love for him to gain him success. If she didn't love him she wouldn't do this. If he didn't love her he wouldn't ask.

Tumblr media
"How is he?"
"Y/N…" Remus began, putting down his quill. Your gaze never left the essay in front of him, refusing to see the pity that his stare held. Because that - that glint in his eyes, the way the right corner of his mouth lifted in a poor attempt of a smile - that was pity.
You shook your head softly. How did it get here?
"Am I not allowed to know? He won't speak to me or look at me. I almost feel guilty even though I know I haven't done anything wrong."
"James is…"
"A fool."
You knew he was trying not to smile. "Yes, that is the obvious answer. But he is still with Lily."
Of course he is. What he said that day - or rather what he smelt - has been the talk of the school for weeks. People were staring at you in the halls, pointing behind your back - so much that you stopped hanging out anywhere else besides your dorm and the library.
And James - he never bothered to say anything to you. It hurt more than you expected to, but you didn't let it show. I am fine, you said every time one of your friends asked. Then, you would smile kindly and change the subject. You would see them exchange worried glances - you pretended you didn't notice. Soon they stopped asking, and you stopped pretending.
"Do they love each other?" Something in your pathetic heart broke at the quiver in your voice. Love.
Love. Never in your life have you heard a more overrated word. So much loss, so much damage made for love. Was it really worth it? The way your stomach dropped and the slight tremble of your lip, the ache that would just not go away - were these the cost of love?
You lifted your head, meeting his gaze. He watched you in awe - as if he read the truth in your eyes. You felt the tears roll on your cheeks, hitting the parchments sprawled on your desk. You let them fall. He opened his mouth, then closed it.
"I understand." you whispered.
You got up, but Remus caught your hand.
"Do you…?"
You smiled softly. "Does it matter anymore?"
He let go of your hand and you walked away.
×××
"Hogsmeade, today?" Sirius asked as he plopped down next to you. He took a big bite of your sandwich - and noticing your icy glare, he put his hand over your shoulder and pressed a sloppy kiss on your cheek. You pushed him off you and wiped your face.
"Bloody hell! You even kiss like a dog!" you retorted.
"No, I don't."
"No, he doesn't." Marlene smirked and you rolled your eyes.
"Hogsmeade, you were saying?"
"Yes - Remus and Lily are busy with their important top-secret prefect duties and James has quidditch practice, so it'll be just us. I guess you don't mind third-wheeling for a bit."
"Can't wait!" you feigned excitement.
×××
It was freezing, to say the least. You were glad you had two pairs of socks on, otherwise you might have had to postpone the trip and pay a visit to the hospital wing instead.
"I don't sound like that!" Sirius whined, handing you and Marlene your butterbeer - you've decided to stop at The Three Broomsticks.
"Of course you do, darling. And may I add that you look ravishing." you purred in your best impression of Sirius' voice. Then, you turned to Marlene and winked. "You are the most gorgeous person in here."
"Careful, that's not true." a voice caught your attention. No, no no no.
"Oi - Prongs, mate! Thought you had quidditch practice!" Sirius clapped him on the shoulder.
"Got cancelled because of the snow. Hello." he nodded and smiled towards you and Marlene, then pulled a chair at the table. It was the first time he's talked to you in weeks.
You didn't bother to answer. In fact, you didn't even look at him. The rest of your stay at the pub passed in a haze, with careless answers and quick nods.

Before you knew it, you were left on a bench with James, waiting for the others to "buy some quills from Scrivenshaft's Quill Shop", as they were in big need of "quills" and "didn't have any left to write the Transfiguration essay we had due Wednesday". Oh, if only you had Transfiguration on Wednesdays!
"So… how have you been?" James trailed off, rubbing his neck. Ah, so that's how he wanted to play this game.Too bad.
"Why, James?" you ask, gazing at the shops in front of you. "Why did you ignore me? What happened that day?"
He sighed. "I don't know. I- I made a mistake. You shouldn't have found out, not like that."
"You have some guts, don't you?" you spat.
"Excuse me?" You faced him. That face - the face you dreamt about, the one you kept telling yourself you hated - you missed that face, you missed him so much that you were glad you were sitting down, for you might as well have fallen to your knees.
"Do you know how it is," you started, feeling the tears pooling in your eyes, "to feel so alone that you find yourself crying without a reason? Do you know how it feels to spend your nights wondering why you weren't enough - what you did to deserve this? Even if you did nothing wrong?"
"Do you know how it's like to watch the person you love drift away from you? To watch that person become a stranger? Do you know how it felt to know that you wouldn't even look at me?" You were now shouting. "Tell me, James! Look me in the eyes and tell me!"
Silence. You watched him trying to find an answer and you silently begged him to say something.
"Do you love me?" he whispered incredulously. Not that.
"Would it change anything if I said I do?"
"I don't know."
"Do you still love her?" You couldn't say her name.
"I don't know." He let his head fall in his hands. For the first time in weeks, you laughed. You laughed until your vision went blurry, until you felt the salty taste of your tears.
"You know nothing, James Potter." you sneered, then got up.
You made your way back to the castle alone.

"Guys guys I have the most amazing idea." Sirius came rushing in the Great Hall, managing to trip and almost fall. He quickly regained his composure and continued running as if nothing had happened.
"That's new." Remus said while reading the prophet.
It's been weeks since that night in Hogsmeade, weeks in which you've avoided James at all costs, despite his numerous attempts at conversation.
"I'll choose to ignore that." Sirius glared at his friend, then continued. "Don't you all want to go for a dip?"
"I think I speak for all of us when I say that I do not intend to die in the freezing lake on a lovely day of winter." You scowl, munching on your pastries. You loved pastries. (mood)
Sirius smirked. "I'm glad you are all so joyous so early in the morning, but for your knowledge, I wasn't talking about the lake. My dear, smartass friends, I was thinking of crashing the Prefects bathroom!"
That got your attention. You looked at Remus full of hope and he shrugged.
"And how exactly are we going to do that? "
"Well, this is where our prefect friends come in handy."
"Lily would never help you do this." James cuts in.
"That's why I wasn't planning on inviting her." Much to your surprise James didn't object. "You forgot about our other prefect friend - and I'm looking at you, Moony."
You all looked at Remus who seemed a tad bit uncomfortable. "I guess - alright? But if anyone catches us, it's your fault." he pointed his finger at Sirius.
"I solemnly swear." He put his hand over his heart, then winked.

"Looks like your plan to ignore James isn't gonna last." Marlene said while stuffing all the towels she could find in her bag.
"I'm aware of that." You really were. You've mentally prepared yourself to spend the night in the same room with him for the past week. "Ready? The boys are waiting."
"Yeah, let's go." You were to go to the bathroom in groups of three using the cloak, then spend the night there.
"Alright," Sirius' head popped from under the cloak "we'll go together - Remus, James and Peter are already there. Come on." he whispered.
You got to the bathroom in no time and you could feel the butterflies in your stomach. You felt pathetic - you were all going to hang out as friends.
Marlene's hand squeezed yours - everything will be alright. It was your thing; back in the day, you used to do this every time the other would be anxious about something. You looked at her and smiled, squeezing back twice - I know.
You entered and your mouth flew open.  You've never seen a more luxurious bathroom before. The "bathtub" was easily the size of a medium sized pool. Greek caryatids held the archways, and the stained glass windows reflected their patterns on the marble floor tiles.
"I suddenly feel bad for not working harder to be a prefect - if I had known this would be my bathroom, I would've gladly learnt the entire History of Magic coursebook by heart" Marlene said, with a small pout on her face and her arms crossed.
"Same here." Your gaze followed the sculptures on the ceiling and slowly fell on him. He looked angelic - the way the coloured moonlight caressed his face, the faint blush on his cheeks - made him part of the setting.
There was no point in lying to yourself. You liked him, despite everything he's done, everything he's said, you continued to like him. All those comforting lies you've said were trying to cover the inevitable truth, the truth which had been well hidden somewhere deep inside your soul. Until now.
You stripped out of your clothes, fully aware of his impertinent stare. You stepped into the pool, sighing in pleasure at the warmth of the water.
"Wanna play anything?" you asked no one in particular.
"Oh, we should play shoulder wars!" Sirius exclaimed excitedly.
"I think I'm gonna skip this!" Peter announced from his chair.
You looked at James, then turned to Remus. You rose your eyebrows inquisitively, and he smiled kindly.
"I guess imma skip this one as well." James said, slightly disappointed.
"Come on, Marls, we gotta kick some ass."
And so did the games begin.

You were trying, and failing miserably to keep your balance on Remus' shoulders.
"Haha- losers!" Marlene laughed. It was your sixth time losing.
"Y/N, I think I'll give up now, before this becomes too humiliating." Remus said while getting out of the water and pulling out his book.
"No Remus, you can't give up now! I know we can do this!" you saw him sit comfortably in an armchair, and something clicked into your mind. "You ditch me to read? And sabotaged me? Remus John Lupin, I'm disappointed."
"Take Prongs instead, he's far more competitive than I am." he smiled innocently. So this was his plan.
You turned to James, and he got up excitedly. You got on his shoulders, and his hands tentatively touched your legs. You saw Marlene and Sirius smirking and you glared at them.

The score was close. It was the match point. Marlene was desperately trying to push you when you came up with the winning idea. You splashed some water into her face, obstructing her vision. Then, you tickled her and she fell.
"And that's how it's done!" you shout, raising your fist. Marlene's head appeared from under the water, clearly mad.
"That was not fair!"
"There's no such thing as fair!" Marlene smirked, as if she was saying oh, really? and pushed James with such brute strength that he fell, taking you with him.
He caught you before your head could hit the bottom. He lifted you up bridal style and you put your left hand around his neck and moved the other one from your nose to his shoulder. You stayed in his arms, not wanting to let go. You were gazing into each other's eyes, breathing heavily, when it hit you.
You loved him.
And he was still with Lily.
You pulled away from his embrace, breaking the stare. "It's not right - Lily…" you mutter, getting out of the water.
The others seemed all deeply interested in Remus' book. You could even hear Sirius asking questions about the plot. You turned away; James was still in the pool, in the same place, trying to make out the meaning of what happened.
It wasn't fair.
Life wasn't fair.
