The Imaginary Boyfriend
"I have a boyfriend."
Lan Qiren's knife slipped on the dinner plate with an ugly screeching sound. His brother let his piece of steak slip off from his fork, his mouth gaping at the sudden proclamation.
Lan Xichen thanked his lucky stars that he hadn't taken a sip out of his water yet. Looking at the murderous look his mother was casting towards her husband and brother-in-law, they were in for a lecture on proper dinner etiquette expected from adults the moment they got out of the restaurant.
Mrs Lan broke the awkward silence," That's great, A-Zhan. What's his name?"
Lan Zhan shifted in his high chair, "Ummm, his name is..... his name is XianXian."
"That's the name of your bun.. ouch! Honey!"
Mrs Lan, who did amateur theatre in her 20s, conveyed the promise of a slow, painful demise to her husband via a single glance. "That's lovely, darling. Does XianXian study in your school?"
Lan Zhan shook his head, "He doesn't study at all."
He used his fork to spear a piece of chicken before adding as an afterthought, " XianXian draws."
Lan Qiren opened his mouth before closing it abruptly. The rest of the dinner passed without any further interruption. Lan Zhan started to nod off as dessert arrived despite Xichen's best efforts to keep him awake and was fast asleep by the time he was secured in his car seat. Uncle opened his mouth again to say something but seemed to change his mind after catching Xichen's eyes in the rear view mirror.
Later, once Lan Zhan has been deposited safely in his bed, hugging his plush bunny and Lan Xichen has been permitted to stay up another half an hour extra because it's friday, the adults gathered in the living room for a drink before bed.
"He has gotten an imaginary friend," Lan Qiren winced into his drink. "Normal for his age. I wouldn't worry about it."
"An imaginary boyfriend, ha ha."
"I am not worried. And he could be a real friend," Mrs Lan sounded like she was trying to convince herself.
"A new boy? Starting in the middle of the school year? And A-Zhan making friends with him? He doesn't even get along with the Nie kid."
"They just got off on the wrong foot."
All three adults winced this time. It was a good thing the Nies were a close family friend who let bygones be bygones. If it were the Jins or the Wens...
"I just think he might become even more reluctant to get along with his classmates if he's spending even more time inside his own head."
Lan Qiren paused to mull his brother's words. "He'll grow out of it, I am sure. Kids forget things quickly."
Except Lan Zhan proved his uncle wrong. He came down to breakfast on Saturday morning with stories about how XianXian had a mother who was a fairy. In the afternoon, he plopped himself in front of the rabbit hutch and solemnly introduced the bunnies to the drawing of their new parent, a red and black round blob drawn with crayons. At bedtime, Mrs Lan had to kiss 'XianXian' good night as well.
On Sunday, Uncle took both of them to softplay. Lan Zhan took a look at the screaming children and promptly hid himself in a corner of the ballpit. He only mentioned XianXian on the car ride home. "XianXian can climb up the big slide."
At night, 'XianXian' was taken down from his perch on top of Lan Zhan's study desk and was laid down beside his pillow. On a brighter note, Lan Zhan didn't put up his usual resistance to brushing his backteeth once Mother told him XianXian brushed his teeth every night.
The next week, the family was treated with more stories of XianXian. XianXian could eat spicy food. XianXian could draw better than anyone (at this point, Lan Zhan cast a regretful glance at his brother). XianXian was an only child till Wednesday, but by Thursday afternoon, he had gained an older sister and a younger brother. XianXian had parents who were in America. And they would bring toys for Lan Zhan too when they came back. XianXian not only had an uncle, but he had an aunt, too. He was never made to eat bell papers. XianXian loved swimming. XianXian got along with everyone, even HuaiSang.
By week 2, even Lan Qiren was shaken. "He's trying to project his own aspiration on his imaginary friend."
Mrs Lan, who was told by her youngest son only this evening that she was almost as pretty as XianXian, looked slightly miffed. "I just hoped he'd at least be a teenager before he got a boyfriend, imaginary or not..."
They got interrupted by a jubilant Xichen who had wondered in with the cordless phone in his hand. "Mother, Da-ge and A-Sang are going to the beach this weekend. Can we go as well, please?"
Lan Qiren nodded, " We could all use some fresh air."
Xichen removed his palm from the receiver and started urgently speaking into it.
Lan Zhan took the news surprisingly well. Instead of his usual silent tantrum at the prospect of spending time with A-Sang and other children, he nodded sagely saying, "XianXian likes the beach too," before going back to his drawing of another red and black blob.
Lan Xichen was able to spot Nie MingJue and HuaiSang in the car park before their car came to a full rest. He ran towards the boys while they started waving at him. Lan Qiren followed him because leaving a pair of 10 years old in charge of a 5 years old in a beach is just asking for trouble no matter what Lao Nie said about self-reliance.
Mrs Lan yelled at them, " We will see you guys at our regular spot."
Except their regular spot was taken. A bronzed man carrying a baby in a sling was spreading his supplies on a purple beach towel. A girl slightly younger than Xichen frowned in concentration as she dug at the sund with her toy shovel. The man raised his head and smiled at Mrs Lan, showing a crooked canine. She smiled back in response and then started to spread her own beach towel. Lan Zhan solemnly put down his own baby bucket and started helping.
"Nice day, isn't it? I was worried it might get cloudy."
The baby squirmed in its sling and made a dissatisfied mewl. Lan Zhan scrunched his nose before moving to stand closer to his mother. Mrs Lan put her arm around his shoulder, " This is A-Zhan."
"Hello, A-Zhan. This is A-Li, and A-Cheng." The man pointed at his kids. "My wife has taken our nephew for ice-cream."
Mrs Lan opened her mouth, probably to continue with the pleasantries, but she was shocked into silence. Lan Zhan suddenly yelped out a short cry before breaking into a run. Before an aghast Mrs Lan could gather herself to give chase, Lan Zhan was met by a boy his size wearing red and black swimming trunks. The two boys were apprehended by a woman who herded them back towards Mrs Lan.
"A-Zhan, why did you run like that?"
"A-Ying, that's dangerous. Don't run..."
Both sets of parents started at the same time. But they got interrupted by A-Zhan, who proudly declared, "This is XianXian."
Mrs Lan continued to gape. The woman was the first to recover, "Oh my, you must be A-Ying's A-Zhan. He has been talking about you for weeks now."
Lsn Zhan nodded. The woman turned to Mrs Lan, " We don't know how to thank your little boy. You see, poor A-Ying had to move in with us because his parents are on a research trip. We were so worried he'd have a bad time getting along with his new classmates. But, it seems like A-Zhan here was a perfect angel."
Mrs Lan weakly smiled. " Yes, A-Zhan kept talking about his new friend, too. But why does he call him XianXian? "
The man extended a hand to ruffle the boy's already messy hair, "His courtesy name is Wei Wuxian. A-Ying is more of a nickname."
The boy jerked his head away but didn't release his hold on Lan Zhan's hands. The boys started to talk earnestly. Or more like Wei Ying talked while Lan Zhan seemed to absorb every word with his entire being. A-Ying's aunt offered to go get more ice cream to replace the ones she had dropped. Mrs Lan spotted her brother-in-law, leading the small team of children towards them. She relaxed her tense muscles and laid down on the towel; then jerked back up because of Lan Zhan's solemn declaration to the group, " XianXian and I are getting married."

So, my favourite mdzs/cql fic? Thanks for asking!
It's a time travel au where Lan Qiren ends up in his early adulthood and tries to fix everything by seducing Wen Ruohan. Also, it may or may not serve a greater good - WangXian shutting the fuck up, because LQR can't sleep at night bc of them!
It's excellent. The humor is peak, the plot is great, even a little bit of smut as a treat, tho it's not problem at all to skip it if that's what you like. 121,456 words long, the whole parents generation get an appearance.
Mostly cql setting, but even I - the novel and donghua is my thing, drama not really - was enjoying it.
It's also an epic journey of Lan Qiren's goatee.
The fic is 'Cursed Couple' by shorimochi on ao3. Check it out.

💙All will be well when the day is done
By:abCEE
Summary:
The one where Yu Ziyuan time traveled but she thought that it was her visions of her alternate life.
She learned that there is a brat named Wei Ying who brought destruction to her and her family's life.
And so in her present, she vowed that she will never allow that to happen.

In which Yu Ziyuan found the four-year-old Wei Ying, newly pushed out of the inn where his parents left him, and decided that no, this child must never be associated with her, her family, and their sect at all.
And so Yu Ziyuan thought that she could bring him somewhere where someone may or may not find him but definitely far from where her husband could find him. If he's lucky, he'll survive that winter, if he's not, then death awaits the fevered child.
This is the extent of mercy that Yu Ziyuan could give a child.
With this, she'll raise her children without having to deal with a brat that brings trouble where he goes according to her visions of her alternate life.
Like the tag stated, this is definitely not Yu Ziyuan centric.
Chapter:8/8
Words:76,082
Status:Completed
“Attempt the impossible.” Lan Qiren heard Wei Wuxian say that a lot of times and there were moments that he wanted to cover his lips to stop saying that. He could imagine Wei Changze shaking his head. He could imagine Cangse Sanren’s disapproving gaze. No parent would want to see their child suffer this way. He listened to the title given to Wei Wuxian and he felt how it did not fit the real Wei Wuxian. Yiling Patriarch. Lan Qiren shook his head. As much as it implies great power, Lan Qiren knew it was spoken out of spite most of the time. He watched Wei Wuxian meet Jiang Yanli in her wedding dress. He hated how he expected something more… especially with how Jiang Yanli was supposed to be the best sister in the world according to Wei Wuxian… and yet nothing happened. They went back to the Burial Mounds with a clarity bell and a bowl of soup. ~~
Lan Qiren could only shut his eyes. He failed… he failed this Wei Wuxian. As Wei Changze and Cangse Sanren’s friend, as his teacher, as an elder… Lan Qiren failed. He watched his nephew try to stop Wei Wuxian from falling. He watched how Jiang Wanyin stabbed the rock. He watched how Wei Wuxian let go. He listened to how his nephew screamed his name while Wei Wuxian had a resigned expression on his face. ~~
This was Wei Wuxian’s second life and his nephew has promised himself to stand by his side whatever happened. The more that he sees Lan Sizhui and his similarities with his nephews as well as his closeness with Wangji… Lan Qiren felt a tug in his heart. Does Wei Wuxian realize it as well or is it just him? When he learned the young disciple's courtesy name… he immediately confirmed his thoughts. Who – who made it possible? He was just a child who turned three at that time. The answer is obvious to him though. His nephew could have held onto the only living person associated with Wei Wuxian who loves and values him as much as Lan Wangji does… his husband in the eyes of Gusu-Lan Sect no matter what their age was during the wedding. It was done in front of their great ancestor and first female Sect Leader after all. Sizhui – to recollect and to long for. Wangji even bestowed him with such an emotional yet beautiful courtesy name. ~~
Lan Qiren’s brows furrowed when Wei Wuxian left Gusu. He almost tried to tug his robes to stop him from leaving after he parted ways with his nephew who was now the Chief Cultivator on top of the mountain. Why? Wangji did not even tell him that they were married! Qiren almost stomped his feet if he was not floating. They have waited and pinned long enough! Why are they parting?! Lan Qiren cannot imagine his life with someone as what his nephew and Wei Wuxian had. The true love and devotion remind Qiren of his brother and sister-in-law who fell in love but were put in such a situation that caused their current situation. ~~
As she swallowed hard, feeling pain on her palm with how tight she was gripping her fists, Yu Ziyuan saw the face of the brat in his Gusu-Lan robes with the main clan’s ribbon on his forehead.  Lan Qiren’s prized ward. Third Jade of Lan. Fourth among the Young Masters. And just recently, earned his title together with Lan Wangji. The light bearer and his light source. Hanguangjun and Guangyuanjun. Him?! The light source? Guangyuanjun ?! How could a brat become a light source?! He is a brat! A son of a servant and he does not deserve to receive any titles! Yu Ziyuan could feel blood dripping to the ground from her palms. She recalled the words in the letter she just read. Betrothal… which means… in the future, he will be leading the Lan Sect with Lan Wangji once Qinghengjun abdicates the position. ~~ karama is bitch 😉😉

———
Jiang-zongzhu and Yu-furen,
I hope your family and sect are well. The sun has been shining brightly in the Cloud Recesses.
I’m writing to let you know Wei Wuxian had a particularly troubling episode, the details of which are inappropriate in a letter, after meeting Nie-zongzhu. He was, as you might imagine, quite concerned, and stayed until he woke.
Wei Wuxian explained his condition to Nie-zongzhu, as it’s become quite normal for him to discuss the attack and resulting amnesia and complications in his brain.
I apologize, as I should have guessed meeting someone new could trigger an episode. He happened to be with my nephews when they came to greet Nie-zongzhu.
The episode seemed to shake him a little—it’s the first he’s had since arriving in Gusu, after all, and so shortly before he’s set to return home. He’s had several nightmares since, which he and Wangji resolved by sharing a bed. He finds comfort in Wangji, and may continue to do so at Lotus Pier.
The healers have worked with him to see if there are techniques that will help with his condition.
Your son did extremely well in his studies. It’s unclear if he began remembering some of what he was taught in Yunmeng or if he is simply a very bright boy. His teachers all praised him, though some were bothered by his fidgeting. He has a lot of energy, and it simply needs to be directed at times.
One of his teachers found a unique solution; upon seeing him doodle in the corners of his papers, he set Wei Wuxian drawing while listening. This was far less distracting to the students, and he could answer questions and follow along with no problem. Another gave him a puzzle box to work with while meditating, to great effect.
His energy means he occasionally gets into mischief, but nothing harmful or untoward. Organizing a speed walking contest among his peers, for instance. Several of the elders were displeased, but it broke no rules.
Wei Wuxian is an especially promising musician. He seems to be very adept at remembering tunes and playing them on his dizi. He barely needs to look at the notes, a natural ear.
I will accompany them in a week’s time for Wangji’s stay in Yunmeng. Xichen has been somewhat obsessively packing a qiankun bag for him, a little concerned as this will be their first time apart for so long. I’m not sure if it will help them be more independent, and a good thing, or if it will be truly difficult.
We shall see when it comes time to return to the Cloud Recesses without Wangji.
A musician who can work with each of the children will accompany us and stay with Wangji to manage their musical education. She is also trained in the konghou and will be able to tutor your daughter, if you are amenable.
We will travel by boat from Caiyi, so while the trip may take some time, it will be leisurely for the children.
Lan Qiren
-----------
Lan-xiansheng,
My wife and I owe you our thanks for caring for our son and seeing to his education. Everyone here is well, the sun shining on Lotus Pier as it does at the Cloud Recesses.
A-Cheng received a letter from A-Ying detailing his episode, and I’m certain we’ll hear details of it when you arrive. I even received a letter from Nie-zongzhu both inquiring after his health and asking if he may bring his two sons to meet our children. Such a thing could bring good intersect relationships, so that is a positive.
A-Ying’s episode is concerning, but I’m guessing you’ve had Lan-daifu make sure his health is not threatened. Truly, the attack on him is mind boggling. We still have no leads, nor any idea who may have been behind it. San-Niang is frustrated, having taken it as an attack against the family—which it was, of course. But absent any clues, there is little that can be done.
While regrettable, his health condition is something that would eventually be known to outsiders. You could not have foreseen the episode, so please do not blame yourself. We will need to take precautions in the future.
Wen-zongzhu wrote to state that the head healers of the Dafan Wen, the medical branch, died recently in an accident, but their young daughter is becoming a doctor. Apparently she’s only a little older than A-Li, but is a prodigy, and Wen-zongzhu will bring her once A-Ying has returned to see if she can help with his condition. I have written to give him a timetable, and his visit may coincide with yours. If Lan-daifu is amenable to accompanying you, he could consult with Wen-guniang.
A-Ying does have quite a bit of energy and a quick mind, and always has. His potential as a scholar and cultivator is impressive, and I’m happy to hear he settled into his studies well. The technique redirecting his fidgeting is a good one, and one we may use here. An option might include him practicing his fingering for his dizi during class as well.
The competition he organized, while mischievous, is just the kind of thing he would do here, though it would involve running. My guess is he altered it to fit the rules at the Cloud Recesses so as not to offend. Fostering these skills is good practice for emergencies, wouldn’t you agree? These events can also foster camaraderie among disciples.
Wei Changze was similarly a natural on the dizi, unable to read music and not classically trained, but he could replicate any piece of music he heard played. It is good to know A-Ying has inherited his father’s talent. When he wanted to play the dizi, I hoped he would.
We look forward to your visit, and all the disciples are excited for A-Ying’s return. The children are impatient, as they miss their brother dearly, but they have held up well. San-Niang has missed him especially; she would never admit it, but she is quite protective of him.
Separation is difficult with family, particularly when there has been prior loss, as your nephews with their mother and A-Ying with his parents. It will be a difficult transition, but I’m certain Lan Xichen will acclimate as mine have. Remind him that we will care for his brother as well as you have cared for A-Ying, and he’ll be able to write letters and send packages.
I suspect the true test will be separating Lan Wangji and A-Ying at the end of the visit to Lotus Pier. They seem extremely attached, and I know A-Ying takes great comfort in your nephew.
Your musician is welcome, of course. A-Li has read all the texts you’ve sent for her to study, and a tutor would be appreciated. We had been planning to hire one, as tutelage is needed to make stronger strides, but we can keep searching and hire one once she has returned to the Cloud Recesses. We will make sure to prepare quarters for her.
Quarters have been prepared for Lan Wangji with the help of A-Li, who consulted with Lan Xichen via letters to make certain he would feel comfortable with them. He told her of their mother’s death and his brother’s difficulty around that time of year, so we will do our best to ease his grief.
Lotus Pier is open to you, and we look forward to your arrival. May it be a smooth trip.
Jiang Fengmian
---------
As a note, remember the reference to the sun following the Waterborne Abyss incident. They know they cannot speak openly in letters in case of interception, but they are warning each other.
They have, after all, set an intersect betrothal and the Jiangs adopted Wei Wuxian officially and made him Jiang Wuxian. This has garnered curiosity, and is why they wanted the details of his attack and condition kept quiet.
Now Nie-zongzhu knows about the resentful energy aspect, and Wen Ruohan is coming to visit.

Fic idea I may never write: Jiang Cheng is sent back in time to his parents' era... but it's a modern AU. Specifically, a multiship one. Now our poor Chengcheng finds one version of his parents may actually be in love (in a puppy crush way) and sets out to make sure they don't end up toxic and ruining their future kids! Sure, his father also seems to be in love with WWX's mom like he was in his world, but surely if he intervened and made sure he was let down earlier things would go differentl- wait... he seems very close to his sworn brother too? In a way that seems less like JC and WWX and more like that idiot and Lan- oh God please no! Jiang Cheng refuses to let his father end up with his both of the idiot's parents! It is not allowed. He forbids it. He needs to team up with his teenage mother (hooray for awkwardness at meeting your parents when they're younger than you and before being traumatised by their parenting, but still seeing traces of the people who would do said traumatising) to stop this. Now, YZN seems all aboard this and he helps her deal with her insecurities and everything seems to be going well, with her roping in her best friend to help, with her also getting Jiang Cheng to help her to get the latter to break up with her shitty boyfriend (JC, whose really not a fan of JGS for multiple reasons, has no objections). Huh, his mother and Jin-furen were really close. He guesses of course they would be, they're sworn siste- wait why is his mother blushing while staring at her? STOP. Is he the only person with a mostly platonic relationship with his sworn sibling!? Also featuring: -Jiang Cheng adapting to modern technology -Jiang Cheng dealing with trying to help his mother connect with his soft nerd father when both of them are jocks -Jiang Cheng being bemused over the fact even in a slice of life high school drama world, his mother is somehow more prone to violence than him

Consequences
Tumblr media
In the next chapter of Three Nie and a Baby, Lan Xichen and Meng Yao discuss Jiang Cheng’s pregnancy.
“You can’t ignore the consequences, even if it was just one night. Her mother’s here.”
Damn, he should never have said they’d slept together. “In town?”=
“In this restaurant. Wei Wuxian and I thought you two should talk. He told me Yu Ziyuan would be eating here.”
Oh, no. This was a very bad idea, but there was no getting out of it, not with Lan Xichen looking so expectant. “If you insist.”

MDZS fanfic ideas I have that most likely won't go anywhere and are mainly just titles atp
@fandom-trash-goblin ‼️
Wish You Were Sober (Chengxian but not necessarily outright)
Post Sunshot when Wei Wuxian is going out drinking everyday
Jiang Cheng being pissed about that (rightfully so, Jesus Christ)
They still love each other but it's hard when you're a sect leader and your SiC is dodging his responsibility's and by extension YOU
Jiang Cheng feels
Jiang Fengmian bashing
idk really I just felt like sharing
Modern AU Jiang Cheng and Jin Ling road trip
The end of the Summer holidays
And they have to get from Yunmeng to Lanling but Jin Ling's flight has been cancelled so Jiang Cheng has to drive him there
All types of shenanigans, for example:
Car breaks down
There's a storm so they have to stop for the night in this shifty ass motel
Jin Ling's awful (in Jiang Cheng's opinion) music
Jiang Cheng's awful (in Jin Ling's opinion) music
There isn't really anything dramatic or overly emotional about this
Just a bit of a laugh
Jiang Fengmian bashing (idk how but I will fucking get it in there idc)
Zhao Zhuliu/Wen Zhuliu is actually Jiang Cheng's real father AU (thank the Lord he looks like his mother)
Major Jiang Fengmian bashing obvs <3
pretty ooc except for Wen Zhuliu who doesn't really have a personality to mischaracterise
Wen Zhuliu being a bit #suspicious when Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian pull up for the Wen indoctrination
Just cause. how can anyone Like That be Jiang Fengmian's son??????
Anyways they're in the cave and Wen Zhuliu refuses to fight Jiang Cheng because by then he's worked out that the boy's birthday is like... suspiciously 9 months away from the last time he and Yu Ziyuan were last Together™
And bby is just like nope
not doing that today
Anyways burning of Lotus Pier and it all goes down the same
EXCEPT
Wen Zhuliu doesn't have anything to do with the death of Yu Ziyuan (if anything he's holding them all back)
Instead of taking his core, Wen Zhuliu takes that child out of Lotus Pier and straight to Wen Qing and renounces the Wen name, going back to Zhao Zhuliu (independent King, we love to see it)
Basically pledges pledges allegiance to Jiang Cheng and kinda follows him around like a guard dog for the entirety of Sunshot
OR
Wen Zhuliu doesn't make the connection of Jiang Cheng potentially being his son until he's got his hand in his chest and is melting Jiang Cheng's golden core
In this AU there'll be some weird thing where you have parts of your parents in your core I don't really wanna explain it
"Jiang Cheng’s golden core was strong for a seventeen year old and was filled with unbridled potential that only the son of the Violet Spider could hold or hope to live up to"
"It spills all over his fingers then onto the floor and he lets it, staring transfixed as his son’s livelihood falls through his fingers"
Basically, Wen Zhuliu gives up his core for Jiang Cheng via Wen Qing and surgery instead of Wei Wuxian and everything else plays out the same minus the demonic cultivation
Jiang Cheng still kills Wen Zhuliu however when he searches his robes he finds a letter addressed "Jiang Wanyin"
Edge of Seventeen (Jiang Cheng Sect Leader succession during Sunshot, potentially Zhancheng 👀)
Pretty much just a character study of Jiang Cheng
Set during the 3-6 months that Wei Wuxian was in the burial mounds
Lan Wangji being there when Wei Wuxian wasn't...
Not a fully fledged idea yet
Jiang Fengmian bashing <3

MDZS Shapeshifting Cultivation AU plans
this is mostly just a note for my future fanfic writing, because I have a lot of fic ideas surrounding these ideas and plan to link this post in their notes. posting this publicity for any feedback (pls i beg any ideas) and if anyone wishes to use this as well for fics go ahead!!
Non-cultivators do not have animal traits. These traits come through by learning shape-shifting cultivation.
Not only is it extremely difficult to learn to hide their traits, it is extremely rude to do so for many reasons. The main and biggest reason is hiding your traits as a cultivator is like a big “fuck you” to your ancestors.
While there is A LOT of genetic factors, that is not always the case. The genetic factor is usually just upon the main clan families. A cultivator can never gain traits from the main clans, so they are seen as mythical beings even within this universe.
For rogue cultivators it’s USUALLY random, and can even be from the outer clan types. This is because somewhere in their family tree far back there would have been someone from this clan.
Cultivator children born within a main clan branch have their animal traits from a very young age, and they do not typically change beyond a FEW exceptions. If these changes ever happen, even to outer branching families it’s seen as negative, as they have “abandoned” their clan.
Qishan — Wen family are wolves, outer branches are based on house dogs
lmao wwx is scared of dogs it’s perfect
Wen Rohan — Black wolf (like a Tiangou)
Wen Chao — Brown wolf
Wen(Zhao) Zhuliu — Asian Black Bear, often confused as a dog bc he was taken in by the Wens and all that
Wen Ning — Siberian Husky
Wen Qing — German Shepherd
Wen Yuan — Rabbit (??? i’ll explain it in the fic. maybe. maybe it’s better to just leave it a mystery LMAO)
Yunmeng — Main Jiang family wild/big cats, otherwise house cats
Jiang Fengmian — Leopard
Yu Ziyuan — Spider
Jiang Cheng — Lynx
Jiang Yanli — Tiger
Wei Wuxian — Black Fox
Wei Changze — Maine Coon
Lanling — Main Jin family are Peacocks, otherwise birds
Jin Guangshan — Peacock, normal coloring
Jin Zixuan — Peacock, normal coloring
Jin Guangyao — Peacock, white coloring
Qin Su — Peacock, Red coloring, was thought to be a phoenix so… yeah that. happened.
Mo Xuanyu — Peacock, Charcoal/Black colored, often called a crow to belittle his heritage
Jin Ling — Qiongqi
Xue Yang — an actual crow
Qinghe — Main Nie family are Qilin, others are other horned beings (deer, moose, sheep, ect.)
Gusu — Only main family are Dragons, others are bunnies (how does this make sense? it doesn’t but it just is how it is.)
Also, eastern dragon, not western. Wormji.
Lan Wangji’s mother was a White Long-tailed weasel.
Other
Song Lan — Black bat (it’s funny bec–)
A-Qing — a mole
Baoshan Sanren and her disciples become Nine-Tailed Foxes through cultivating. One of if not the only exceptions to changing attributes the cultivation world has ever seen. Nobody knows how it’s done, and only her disciples have ever become nine-tailed foxes.
This pisses off the Wens no doubt, because they think as canines the Nine-Tailed Fox should belong to them.
Cangse Sanren was a grey nine-tailed fox
Xiao Xingchen was a white nine-tailed fox
Fics based on this post
none yet, I’ll add my links when I post them though if anyone else uses this post and wants me to add their fic link feel free to let me know!
You can use the ideas in this post without credit, I’m fine with it ^^

More Pet Peeves!
Wei Wuxian – a troublemaker, a genius, a beggar
So, another thing I've seen come up quite a lot is a penniless Wei Wuxian. This is more prevalent in modern AUs (in my experience). And like, I see where you people are coming from, the whole "sugar daddy Lan Wangji" is quite appealing, however! Why put Wei Wuxian down for it? In the novel, Lan Wangji has no trouble spoiling Wei Wuxian regardless of his financial standing and the money is actually never brought up as an issues. The whole "Am I your charity case, Lan Wangji?" is just not a thing. In the extras Wei Wuxian has access to Lan Clan's money, making him filthy rich once again, but Lan Wangji keeps on spoiling him and Wei Wuxian lets him, because he knows it makes Lan Wangji happy.
Also, why would Wei Wuxian be broke to begin with? The only instance he actually struggled due to tight finances was when he was secluding himself with the Wens on the Burial Mounds. Because, how is Wei Wuxian supposed to earn (a suptential amount of) money to begin with when he is shunned by the whole cultivation world? (The one that holds all the power?) And has to care for 50+ people.
Wei Wuxian is very smart. Not just book smart, but also street smart. He is a genius in all fields. He says in the novel that "back then" (in the days that he was a rich young master) he always had money on him ("to buy gifts for girls" ...yeah right). So, he is very resourceful. If, in a modern AU, he somehow found himself in a bad financial situation (the cause of which is very often Yu Ziyuan throwing him out) then, first of all, he most certainly would have seen that coming and would have prepared. Second, seeing that he is a genius, I don't think it would have been hard for him to earn enough money to live (comfortably) on his own quickly.
So, what do I mean by "putting Wei Wuxian down"? Well, there are two types of fanfics when it comes to this trope (this is called a trope, right? Idk), one where the writer does their best to portray Wei Wuxian with his canon characteristics (even though I still don't think he would struggle financially) and the one where Wei Wuxian is some oblivious idiot with a shit load of insecurities. So, this fanon Wei Wuxian refuses any help from everybody (be it his sister (or brother🙄), Lan Wangji or a stranger) because he "doesn't want to be a bother and make trouble" and will struggle silently. So this then leads to our hero of the day, Lan Wangji, 'tricking' Wei Wuxian into accepting his help. How more cliché can this be?
Wei Wuxian, why are you acting like my mum?
Why do opinions of some random people matter to him more than those of his loved ones? This one always comes hand in hand with "insecure Wei Wuxian". He develops self-esteem issues because of all the crap Yu Ziyuan throws at him (even though he doesn't in canon, but who cares about canon nowadays?) And thus, miscommunication and misunderstandings with Lan Wangji ensue, because "Why would this god of a man want a rat like me?" Or when they are ALREADY dating, he overhears people shit-talking him and starts putting distance between himself and Lan Wangji because "Lan Wangji deserves better" and needs constant reassurance from Lan Wangji. This... this is just so insulting to their characters and their relationship, I have no words.
...Maybe I should stop trying my luck and instead get to the mountain of books that is my TBR (≡・x・≡)?

Wei family motto WCZ: what's our family motto? CSSR & WWX: if kidnapping doesn't solve your problem, you're not kidnapping enough people 💃💃 WCZ: they're idiots, but they're my smart idiots and I love them.
~~
Cangse Sanren sprinkled some water on her face to wake her up. 24 hours into it, and each time later when she had almost fainted due to the pain, Cangse Sanren had wiped her face with cold water, then whispered into her ears, “want to escape the pain? You can’t faint yet… You must feel it yourself, how my son felt. You want to save your son right-" Yu Ziyuan had been confused, but was unable to retort or reply in her weakened state.
~ I really like this part you see madam yu told wei ying to even sacrifice his life for Jiang Cheng, now its her turn to sacrifice her core for Jiang Cheng

Ehhh yep, I'v been lost for a long time, but yes, Yu Ziyuan! Some hates her, other ones admire her, to me, after read a lot of fanfics, I can say that I can't blame her at all, and surely if she hadn't married she would have cultivated to immortality.
Besides, in my game we don't know what happen with Jiang Fengmian ╮( ̄ω ̄;)╭

Note
Looking at prior discussion, what would it take for Yu Ziyuan and Jiang Fengmian to forge a loving relationship? A drunk conversation that confirmed their feelings and dismissed their fears? Near-death situations that force them to introspect?
Fanfic-wise, totally the latter—somehow surviving the fall of Lotus Pier would totally do it. Realistically, they’d have to really work to undo the daily habits/patterns that drove one another crazy (including the way the each treat the different kids)
