Tooru Oikawa x f!reader

Being lost in your thoughts, as you always are, completely forgotten that you’re in class until the sudden ring of the school bell brings you back to reality. You hadn’t realized that you were so zoned out during the class, but it wouldn’t be your first time. That being your last period for the day, you decided to go to the gym and help the guys practice. After all, your best friends were on the volleyball team and you’ve always loved helping them when it came to just about anything. As soon as you walked in, you were being greeted by no other than the man himself - Tooru Oikawa. Believe it or not, he was one of your closest friends and would always flash you with the brightest smile when greeting you. You’ve been fond of his very charming personality for as long as you can remember; it’s what you’ve loved about him the most.

“Y/N-chan!”, he called out oh, so happily. “I’m glad that you came to help us with practice.”, said with the cheeriest expression on his face.

“Oh, it’s nothing, really. Glad I can be of help to everyone here, of course!”, you replied.

You’ve decided to help Iwaizumi and Hanamaki practice their spikes today. It wasn’t uncommon for you to serve the ball for them to get them to spike it right back over the net. Often, they were impressed by your skills, but you hadn’t told them your secret yet - that you learned from the best. Whenever Oikawa had free time, he would teach you a thing or two about playing volleyball. You would always pay close attention and eventually, you got pretty good at it; whether it was to not disappoint your best friend or other reasons.

“I will never get over how good you are at serving the ball, Y/N!”, said Hanamaki whilst Iwa was agreeing by nodding. “I’m surprised that you never tried to get on the girls’ volleyball team, Y/N. Why is that?”, asked Matsukawa who was leaning against the pole by the net.

Of course, you weren’t going to tell them the actual reason as to why you didn’t; that being that you wouldn’t be able to practice with Oikawa and/or help him, after all he was the reason why you got into volleyball, anyway. Scratching the back of your head, you replied to him: “Ah.. well, volleyball’s just been a hobby of mine, I never really thought of doing it professionally. And you guys know I’m not all that great at it, right? I wouldn’t want to embarrass myself during the games!”. Everyone laughed at your statement because they knew how good you are at playing volleyball; hell, you’ve been helping them ever since you were first years at Aoba Johsai. They all knew you could be the best volleyball player - even Oikawa knew, though he wouldn’t tell you that in front of them.

After practice finished, you were waiting for Oikawa to walk home together. You both lived on the same street, so it was logical for you and him to go back home together. A few minutes passed by and there he was, standing tall and proud as usual.

“Y/N-chan!!! I hope you didn’t wait too long for me.”, said Oikawa while coming up to you and bringing you in for a hug. “It’s o-okay, ‘Kawa, didn’t wait long at all.”, you replied, hugging him back with your face stuffed in his chest. You could feel and hear his heart because of how fast it was beating, though you couldn’t figure out why; he’s cooled down after practice so it surely isn’t that? - you thought to yourself. Oh, but only if you knew that you were the reason behind it.

Oikawa was good at hiding his feelings, at least the ones he’s felt towards you. Never wanted to admit it to himself, because you are his best friend and what if you didn’t feel the same way about him? It’s not even that that would be the cause of his heart breaking, but the fact that you may not want to be friends with him if he would’ve ever confessed to you. It’s something that would shatter him into pieces - you not being by his side, not being his number one supporter; he could never imagine losing you just like that. You mean a lot to him and oh, how badly he wanted to show you that by giving you the sweetest kiss on your lips. He’s always wondered how they felt and maybe even tasted - he’s always seen you put that favorite chapstick of yours.

The walk home was fairly quiet until you both said goodbyes to one another.

“Bye Y/N-chan, have a good night!”, Oikawa said heading towards his house. “Good night, ‘Kawa. See you at school tomorrow!”.

The next day came, but Oikawa didn’t show up which was very unusual. You asked the guys if they knew why, but none of them did.

A week or so passed without him coming to school. Of course, you had texted him asking about and he just told you he was sick. Before you say anything he told you to not come by so that you wouldn’t get sick, too. You didn’t necessarily believe him, but you just let it slide. Maybe he was dealing with something that you didn’t need to know about or who knows what. Though, that wasn’t the case; he was planning on how to surprise and confess to you. Him being great at volleyball didn’t mean he was skilled at these types of things. It was the first time someone’s made his knees go weak just at the thought of them. Usually it was him that was making the girls fall for him and be all nervous, but it was different this time. You were the one making HIM nervous and making his heart beat faster every time he’d see you. He would’ve never thought in a million years that anyone could make him feel that way, but he’d be lying if he said he wasn’t happy that it was you that made him feel like this.

After countless attempts at thinking of the best surprise idea, one came to his mind at last - bringing you to the place you two first met as kids. It may sound like a silly idea, but you and him have spent the most memorable moments there, so it was very special to him and he was hoping it’d be to you, too. He bought all of your favorite treats, as well as your favorite cake, and packed it all nicely in a box with a bow that was your f/c. He knew everything about you, all the little details; he’s always paid very close attention to you. He was really hoping that it would go just the way he planned, he’s loved you for the longest now and can’t afford to lose another chance of not telling you.

The day finally came. Tooru was the most nervous he’d ever been. He texted you to come outside so he could take you somewhere. You had no idea what was he planning on doing; maybe just taking you to get ice cream or something? You wondered, but didn’t ask because you knew you wouldn’t get an answer from him. You both got in his car and he’d pulled a blindfold.

“Could you put this on, Y/N-chan? Promise you won’t have it on for long!”, said Oikawa.

“Yeah, of course.. But why? Where are we going, Tooru?”.

“Oh, silly me, forgot to tell you. We’re going somewhere special!”, he replied, smiling at you.

You didn’t say anything after that but just nodded and put the blindfold on. Seriously where is he taking me?, you thought to yourself. The ride wasn’t very long, maybe about 10-15 minutes.

“We’re here! But you still can’t take your blindfold off, Y/N-chan. I’ll lead you!”. He said that as he opened the door and took your hand in his. It was awfully warm and you could feel it shaking just a little bit. Again, it was a short walk to it and he’d taken off your blindfold.

“Ta-daaah! I hope you like it, Y/N-chan. I did this all for you!” , said Oikawa looking at you.

You couldn’t believe your own eyes - it was something you hadn’t imagined happening. You were simply at a loss for words. Your very best friend, the Tooru Oikawa, had prepared all of this just for you and you only. At this moment you just wanted to go up to him and give him a kiss, but that wouldn’t be appropriate.

“Wow..thank you, Tooru. I love it so much!” you said while pulling him in for a hug. He pulled away from you for a moment and said:

“Y/N, I have to tell you something and it’s very important”, you could feel his whole body shaking, “I love you, Y/N, I always have. I was just so scared that it might ruin our friendship.. I still hope it doesn’t if you don’t feel the same way…”

You put your hand on his cheek, slowly caressing it, saying: “Tooru, I love you, too and I always have. I never thought you felt the same about me!”. “And of course it would never ruin our friendship, you know I would always be right by your side, no matter what!”

“Well on that note.. will you be mine forever, then?”, he asked with a smile vividly growing on his face.

“Yes, Tooru! A million times yes!”, you replied as he pulled you in for a kiss.

Finally, you got to feel his soft lips press against yours for the first time - it was sweeter and better than you could’ve ever imagined and you were the happiest you’ve ever been. He thought the same as you. Eventually you both pulled apart saying to one another:

“I’ll love you forever and always, Y/N.”

“I’ll love you forever and always, Tooru.”
