I love seeing a Meryl who doesn't look like an o.o confused waif. This captures her spirit at a rare calm, happy moment, and shows off her, uh, assets without putting her in a *completely* improbable, uncomfortable pose. I love how she's holding up her gun, too. Great use of perspective here in the angle and sizing, and nice smooth linework. And there's subtle shading that just *works" and doesn't disrupt the whiteness of her uniform. The longer I look the more impressive things I'm noticing.
TL;DR I love this, draw more plz!

Yes!
And:
There's a difference between a character who exists in a story and has a romantic relationship with a main character versus a character who exists in a story to have a romantic relationship with the character.
There’s a difference between a female character who exists in a story and has a romantic relationship with a male character versus a female character who exists in a story to have a romantic relationship with a male character

This is good karma and it works, can confirm.
There’s a fic on fanfiction(.)net that I’ve kept tabs on for years to see if it’s been updated or not. While I’m no longer even in the fandom it’s written for, it just has one of the greatest storylines I’ve ever read. Last time it was updated was 2011.
The other day, I decided to reread the entire thing and leave a very in-depth review of what I thought of each chapter. I also mentioned how I started reading it when I was 13 and am now 21, but always came back to see if it was ever finished because I loved it so dearly.
Today, said author sent me a private message saying that her analytics showed that the story was still getting views even after all these years, but no one ever bothered to leave reviews other than “update soon!!!”, so she never felt motivated enough to finish it. She said that me reviewing every single chapter with lengthy paragraphs made her cry and meant the world to her. She also mentioned that she felt encouraged to write the two remaining chapters needed to complete the story and that she would send me a message the night before she updates the fic.
I’m literally sobbing. I’m so excited :’)
Please always remember to leave a review when reading fanfiction!!! It means a lot to a writer.

By contrast, I did a fair amount of research for my Regency AU rp, and yet the characters still quote Blue Oyster Cult and a poem about flight from the early 20th century because WHY LET HISTORICAL ACCURACY GET IN THE WAY OF A GOOD SAPPY STORY AMIRITE?

#you mean that's not romance?! I am disappoint :P
#oh well, there goes my dream for an irl coffee shop au with swords
Some guy in an avengers Tshirt I just met at a coffee shop: so who's your favorite superhero?
Me too exhausted to explain there's more than one Robin: Batman
Guy: oh! Did you watch the Joker movie? It was surprisingly good for a DC film haha
Me: yeah it was something
Guy: you know they really fucked up on Justice League, but I've got to say Wonder Woman was better than Captain Marvel. Like, we get it, "yay girl power." That's great but it was so over the top. It totally ostracized half of it's audience.
Me: wow really
Guy: yeah. You know, you seem pretty chill. Maybe we could hang out sometime and watch some decent superhero movies? You know, Marvel movies haha
Me: i never asked, who's your favorite hero?
Guy: Iron Man. Like Batman but richer and cooler haha
Me: you know, Batman's rule? No killing?
Guy: yeah?
Me: i have no such rule. Lindsey, I found another one. My usual, please
Lindsey, the barista: *hands me my sword*
Guy: wow that's a poor replica of the God Killer blade, it should have more- *beheaded*
Me: thank god that's over
Lindsey: yeah. Hey want to watch Birds of Prey with me sometime?
Me: oh? You mean like as... a date?
Her: well yeah... is that okay?
Me: of course it's okay! all this time, all these years, i never knew you felt that way
Her: i don't keep a replica of Wonder Woman's sword under the counter for just anyone
Me: i never thought about it that way
Her: *writes her number on the forehead of dead guy* text me ;)

Reblogging because I love a versatile artist drawing a versatile character (ok, mostly for ovenroastedtwerkey's commentary)
what's your favorite Bruce?
Bruce Wayne has never looked more like a DILF than when he’s being drawn by Greg Capullo

Vash: "So you might as well love everybody."
“How can you say you love one person when there are ten thousand people in the world that you would love more if you ever met them? But you’ll never meet them. All right, so we do the best we can. Granted. But we must still realize that love is just the result of a chance encounter.”

i will defend improvised storytelling till the day i fucking die i think stories told by people under pressure to do it fast, stories told in collaboration…. that shits gorgeous and ALIVE. have you ever gone to a writing workshop and someone writes the rawest shit in the entire world during a ten minute free write? playing dnd and some dialogue is so moving it makes you wonder how it came from your dumbass friends? got really into one of those ‘one sentence at a time’ campfire story games and ended up making something— totally unrecorded, lost except to the people who were there— that should have been in the fucking moma?
people are full to the BRIM with stories and honing that storytelling into a specific practice (ex. writing) is for sure a learned skill that takes tons of practice to do effectively but…… it’s there. it’s there and anyone can tap into it if they’re given opportunity and an audience to say it to.
look, the point of telling stories is to connect with other people. and all we’ve ever done throughout human history is connect connect connect so is it any wonder when you put a human being in front of an outlet and you say ‘tell me a story’, no one stays silent?

Me recently:
Step 1: Look up Trigun on Livejournal.
Step 2: Find Trigun communities, fanfic recommendation communities, writing prompt/request communities, and extremely prolific individual writers...which provide links to fanfic.
Step 3: All the external links and a few of the livejournal links lead to nothing.
Step 4: Do not profit.
Step 5: Reads this post and remembers Wayback Machine exists.
#old enough to remember a but freewebs
a moment of silence for all the fanfiction lost to the ravages of time, unsalvageable even by the wayback machine, condemned to its final resting place in the deactivated archives of fansites for now-syndicated television shows
