Encantober 2023 Day 19: Clock
If you asked Felix and Agustin Madrigal what makes time drag on more than usual, they would answer whenever their wives were out of the house. Ever since they moved into the Madrigal household, keeping themselves entertained while the triplets were out helping the village was the biggest challenge they ever had. Even after they got married, the house was filled with nothing but boredom.
There was one day when their wives were both three months pregnant with their first children when time seemed to drag on longer than usual. Felix and Agustin lay down on the couch staring at the clock to watch the minute hand move slower and slower as the time dragged on.
“Hey, Felix?”
“Si, Agustin?”
“I can’t wait for our babies to be born so we don’t have to keep staring at the clock all day every day.”
“I feel the same way, Gus; at least when the babies are born, we’ll have something to do and they’ll allow us to be on our toes more often.”
“Well, we have six more months of waiting until then.”
The men groaned again and continued staring at the clock. It was eleven-fifty, which meant their wives were going to be home for lunch soon. That was enough for them to smile at the clock. They closed their eyes slowly before they drifted off for a nap.
------------------------------------------------------
Several hours later, Agustin and Felix felt something slap them in the thigh and jumped up awake. They opened their eyes and noticed their wives looking down at them. They waited until their breathing relaxed and their heartbeat slowed down to say anything.
“Hola, Felix and Agustin, we were planning on waking you up at lunchtime, but we didn’t want to disrupt your nap,” Julieta said.
“Wait, we missed lunch?” Agustin asked.
“Si, you slept for the last four hours,” Pepa explained.
Agustin and Felix looked at the lock in front of them on Casita’s fireplace and noticed that it was almost four o’clock. They looked at each other, then looked at their wives when they noticed the time.
“Wow, time went faster than we realized,” Felix pointed out.
“Were you just sitting around watching the clock the entire time we were out?” Julieta asked.
“Yes, we’ve been doing it this entire time since we moved in with you. There’s no one in the house but us for most of the day. What are we supposed to do all day while you’re in the village helping everyone?” Agustin asked.
“I don’t know; what do you normally do when we’re gone?”
“Wait for you to get back.”
Julieta and Pepa sat on the couch and hugged their husbands. They laid their heads on their shoulders as they held their arms.
“Aww, mi amor, I wish you told us sooner about your boredom. We would have brought you with us to the village,” Pepa said.
“If you want us to be honest with you, we get pretty bored when we’re out in the village sometimes too. We sometimes meet each other in a middle ground during down time and talk about what has happened so far,” Julieta explained.
“If you want, you can come with us until the babies are born. Then at that point, you will be spending time with the babies,” Pepa added.
Agustin and Felix hugged their wives and smiled as Pepa created a rainbow above both couples. The temperature rose a few degrees at that moment, and they let each other go once they started to feel sweaty.
“Tomorrow, before you go into the village, do you promise you will take us with you after breakfast?” Felix asked.
“We promise, and during our breaks, we can meet under that tree we used to just hang out under when we were in high school,” Pepa replied.
Both couples hugged again as Julieta got up from the couch. “I’ll get started on dinner. You both must be starving since you skipped lunch. Do you want anything?”
“Si, do you still have some spare arepas for us?” Agustin asked.
“I should still have a couple of arepas left over from today.”
Julieta went into the kitchen to try and find her stash of arepas from the day. Pepa stayed with Felix and Agustin to talk some more with them.
“You really have been staring at the clock all day to wait for us every day we’re out to do chores?” she asked.
“Si, but now that I think about it, I don’t know why we were doing that in the first place. I don’t even know why we never thought of asking you to come with you in the first place,” Felix explained.
Julieta came out of the kitchen with a plate of four arepas. “I got two more for Pepa and me so we can all have a snack before I make dinner.” All four of them grabbed an arepa from the plate and took one bite out of it simultaneously. “Tomorrow, we’ll tell you when we leave for chores so you can come with us.”

How about its Felixs birthday and everything is perfect except one thing because the shop owner as Pepas ex has a grudge against her but as we know Pepa is a bad ass so she scares him into getting her way and Felix as love sick as ever thinks its the best birthday ever
Here you go! Hope this is what you wanted! It’s kind of long, so I hope that’s okay!
I don't necessarily agree with Pepa's methods here, but they were effective.
It was the morning of Félix’s birthday. November 11th. The date used to mean nothing to Pepa, used to be just another day in November, but ever since she met Félix, the sun shone a little more brightly on November 11th.
She had been running around preparing for tonight’s party for two weeks. The list of things that needed to be done was no longer as daunting, thanks to her siblings and mother pitching in to help. One by one, they’d managed to get almost everything they needed to give Félix an amazing party.
Juicy steaks from the butcher, promising Pepa the best cuts of meat in exchange for favorable weather on his wife’s birthday. An assortment of baked goods from the baker: pillowy, freshly baked bread, cookies, and the pièce de resistance- an enormous tres leches cake, absolutely soaked in sweet milk, thick dulce de leche oozing down the sides.
Of course, Julieta had offered to do the baking herself, but Pepa immediately waved away the suggestion as ridiculous. Julieta was expecting a second child, and she hadn’t slowed down one bit. But her poor sister was so swollen by this point that she looked like she was constantly toting around a watermelon. She seemed ready to pop at any moment. Obviously, there was no way Pepa would ask her to stand on her feet just to prepare food for her husband.
Succulent steak, fresh crusty bread, indulgent desserts…Pepa checked the items off her list. The rest of them were pitching in to get the rest of the food ready. Although Julieta was relegated to bedrest, she wasn’t fully out of commission; instructing the others on how to prepare all of Félix’s favorite dishes. Pepa had tried to help out in the kitchen, but she’d ended up even more hopeless than Agustín when it came to cooking. Turns out, even her rain wasn’t enough to rescue the charred remains of her culinary attempts.
So, she decided to leave the cooking to the far more capable hands of her mother and brother and instead work on the decorations. She’d gotten some lovely flowers from the florist and was arranging them into bunches to place around the table. They were all so colorful, with bright glistening petals. Pepa placed one of every color into each bunch. Félix gave her rainbows every day; it was only fair she returned the favor.
“I help?” Isabela had toddled over, grabbing at the flowers Pepa was holding. Much to Pepa’s surprise, Isabela’s touch was delicate. She didn’t even damage the petals. She looked at Pepa expectantly with her big brown eyes.
Pepa chuckled. “Sure, Isa. Come here.” She patted the ground next to where she was sitting and separated out some flowers for Isabela to play with. “You want to help me decorate for your tío’s party tonight?”
“Uh huh.” Isabela’s brow furrowed as she focused on matching her arrangement to the ones Pepa had been working on, choosing just the right flowers. “Like this?” She held up an arrangement almost identical to the ones Pepa had been making.
“Yes, Isabela, just like that!” Pepa took the bunch, stunned. She added the few flowers Isabela had been missing and set the finished bunch aside. Isabela really had a knack for this. She could actually help Pepa out. Deciding there wasn’t any harm, she pushed the rest of the flowers closer to Isabela. “Can you help me finish making the flower arrangements?”
Isabela nodded solemnly, reaching out to pick up some more flowers in her chubby little hands. “Pretty flowers,” she commented, turning over the flowers in her hands. A few of the petals got crushed, but Pepa held her tongue. She didn’t want Isa growing up criticized over every little thing the way she had been.
“They’re very pretty, right?” Pepa smiled, glancing at Isa over her own bundle of flowers. Her precious sobrina concentrated on picking out just the right flowers. “Which one is your favorite?”
Isabela frowned, pausing to think. Her tiny tongue poked out of her mouth. “All of them!” she exclaimed, beaming.
Pepa laughed. “They are all pretty, aren’t they?” she agreed. Isabela seemed to really enjoy the flowers. Maybe she could convince Julieta to let Isa join her in the fields come springtime.
Thanks to her adorable little helper, the flower arrangements were done sooner than she anticipated. Food, flowers… Pepa ran through the list in her mind. The musicians were coming tonight. All that was left to do was… A leaden feeling sank in her stomach. Decorations. She’d left the decorations last, hoping to delay the inevitable misery, but the moment had arrived. Closing her eyes, she let out a frustrated groan.
“Tía okay?” Isabela reached out a hand towards her cheek, concerned. That child was as perceptive as her mother.
Pepa nodded, swallowing and affixing a smile to her face. “Yeah, Isa, I-“ Fortunately she was saved from having to come up with an excuse by Agustín, who was holding a very sleepy Dolores in his arms. “I’m just sad that you need to go take your nap because I had so much fun with you.” It wasn’t exactly a lie; she did genuinely enjoy working on the flower arrangements with Isa.
“No nap!” Isabela insisted stubbornly. “Not tired.” But her yawn betrayed her.
“Are you two girls done with the flowers?” Agustín bounced Dolores in his arms.
She valiantly fought sleep, but little fists rubbed her sleepy eyes. Succumbing to her tiredness, she snuggled into her tío’s chest.
“We are.” Pepa stood up and held up a flower arrangement. “What do you think?”
“I think they’re beautiful!” He cooed, crouching down to Isabela. “But not as beautiful as mi flor pequeñita.” His free arm made its way down to tickle her side, causing her to erupt in giggles.
He had really taken to being a girl dad. Pepa hoped their second child would be another girl. “Are you ready to join your prima?” Pepa addressed Isabela, who was clinging to her hand, unwilling to go to her father because it would mean ending their fun.
Isabela struggled with the decision, her eyes darting between her and Dolores. As much as she loved her tía, she loved Lola more. “Okay,” she acquiesced. Letting go of Pepa’s hand, she reached up towards her father.
“Come on, Isa.” Agustín scooped her up with surprising strength, balancing her in his other arm. “You need to rest so you can stay awake at your tío’s party tonight.”
“Party?” Her eyes gleamed excitedly.
“That’s right,” Agustín affirmed. “But you need to sleep now so you can stay awake later.”
Her mouth opened to fight him, but tiredness overtook her and instead she joined Dolores in snuggling onto his chest.
“Thank you,” Pepa mouthed towards him as he took the girls away for naptime.
Now she was left by herself to contend with the decorations. She wanted to get streamers and sparklers for tonight, maybe even some fireworks if she was lucky, but unfortunately, she and Osvaldo had been on a few bad dates many years ago, and he still hadn’t gotten over how things had ended. There was no way he’d want to do anything nice for her, especially not if it was meant for her husband.
And that really rubbed Pepa the wrong way, because Osvaldo holding a grudge against her was one thing (look, it wasn’t her fault she didn’t want to date a bad kisser, okay?) but taking it out on Félix, the nicest most agreeable man in the whole encanto (no she wasn’t biased) was taking it too far.
What she needed was a way to get the decorations from Osvaldo without bringing up any drama. Her unexpected solution appeared in the form of a disheveled Bruno stumbling out of the kitchen towards her. His hair appeared to be smoking.
“Did you get kicked out of the kitchen too?” Pepa snorted.
Bruno wiped a smudge off his face. Pepa didn’t even want to know what it was. “Still made it longer than you, hermana.”
Pepa rolled her eyes. When would they stop bringing up how bad she was in the kitchen? Cooking wasn’t her thing. They all knew that by now. Get over it. But focus, Pepa; you need him. “Yes, Bruno; you’re a better cook than I am,” she gritted out. The words tasted bad, but she needed to butter him up.
He looked at her strangely. “You feeling okay?”
She sighed. “I need your help, Bruno.”
“With what?”
“Remember how I put off getting the decorations for Félix’s party until the last minute?”
“Yes…?”
“There’s a reason for that. Guess who’s selling the decorations now?”
Bruno scratched his head. “I don’t know. I don’t even remember what I had to eat this morning and you’re asking me to remember who’s selling something we don’t use every day.”
Pepa resisted the urge to snap at him. “Osvaldo Ortiz,” she answered, as calmly as she could.
Bruno shrugged. “So? Osvaldo’s a nice guy.”
Pepa glared at him. “Not to me. We went on a few dates ages ago and he still hasn’t gotten over it.”
“Ah.” Bruno nodded knowledgeably. “He’s one of the ones you dumped for a stupid reason.”
“I didn’t dump him for a stupid reason,” Pepa defended herself, outraged.
“Why did you dump him?”
“Because he was a bad kisser.”
“Which isn’t stupid at all.” Sarcasm dripped from Bruno’s words.
“It wasn’t his fault. I was his first kiss, and he needed someone to teach him how to do it right.” Pepa crossed her arms. “That person wasn’t going to be me. I didn’t have to deal with that.”
“Naturally.”
Pepa huffed. “Are you going to help me or are you just going to stand here and make fun of my dating preferences?”
“Okay, okay.” Bruno held up his arms in defeat. “What do you want, me to go get the decorations for you?”
Pepa shook her head. “No, I won’t give him the satisfaction of thinking he got to me. Because he didn’t.”
“Clearly,” Bruno muttered under his breath.
Pepa kept going, pretending not to have heard him. “I just want you to come with me to diffuse the tension.”
“That’s all?” He narrowed his eyes at her suspiciously.
“That’s all,” she promised.
“You’re going to owe me.”
“I figured I would. But please, this is for Félix. It’s not for me. Think about that. He’s your favorite cuñado.”
“You’re so lucky Agustín is upstairs and didn’t hear you say that.”
“I don’t hear you denying it.” She stared him down.
He tried to return the stare but crumbled. “Fine, but I’m not talking unless I have to.”
“That’s just fine, hermanito.” If she was lucky, just his presence would be enough to make Osvaldo reconsider being rude to her.
They walked over to the market together. Pepa filled Bruno in on what she wanted for Félix’s party.
“Streamers, sparklers, and fireworks?” Bruno let out a low whistle. “That’s a lot, especially considering Osvaldo hates you apparently.”
“He doesn’t hate me,” Pepa corrected him, hurt. “He’s just…” She paused to find the right words.
“Not over you; got it, Pepa.” Was he rolling his eyes at her? Brothers…
“Focus, Bruno; we’re doing this for Félix. This is about him, not me,” she insisted.
“Of course it is, Pepa.” Bruno sighed, exasperated. “Fine. Not like I can help in any other way anyway.”
“You don’t have to talk, just be there for moral support,” Pepa reminded him.
“I thought I was there to diffuse the tension.”
Pepa rubbed her temples. Really he was there as insurance that Osvaldo would give her the decorations, but she wasn’t about to tell Bruno that. “Right. That.”
“Are you going to lie and tell him I had a terrible vision about him so he gives you what you want?”
She shot him a scathing look. “Of course not, Bruno; don’t be ridiculous.”
He still appeared wary. “Okay. I hate it when you do that.”
“Don’t worry, Bruno.” She patted his shoulder. “Ah, here he is.” They’d reached Osvaldo’s stand.
Bruno gulped, seeming to regret his decision. “Okay. I’m going to go be not here.” He then immediately ran away.
“So much for support,” she hissed out after him, seeing him disappear into the winding rows of stands. “Hola, Osvaldo,” she greeted the man, infusing unfelt friendliness into her voice.
“Pepa.” He didn’t feel it necessary to do the same. “What are you doing here?”
“Well, today is Félix’s birthday…” She tucked a fallen strand of hair behind her ear nervously, noticing the man’s attention waning. Bad start, Pepa.
“Is that so?” He asked, disinterested. He had gone around the back of the stand, arranging a bundle of pinwheels in its box.
“Yes, I, uh, was wondering if you had any deco…” Her voice trailed off mid-word as he turned to look at her again. Smooth, Pepa. Of course he has decorations, they’re right in front of you. Gathering up her confidence, she finished her thought, “I wanted to get some decorations for his party tonight.”
Osvaldo grunted, not showing any trace of interest in the matter. “And you thought I would help you? Sell you decorations to celebrate your husband’s birthday? At a party I’m not invited to?”
Pepa let out a disbelieving noise. “I didn’t think you’d want to come! Not after… I thought I was doing you a favor!”
“A favor! Like how you did me a favor by dumping me during lunch break in front of everyone?” His ears grew red.
“Are you going to sell me decorations or not?” Pepa demanded, getting frustrated. The nerve of that man! When was he going to get over it?
He sighed. “Yes, Pepa, I will.” He pulled out the most pitiful pinwheels, their edges curling and drooped, as well as some faded banners. “Here you go.”
“Seriously?” She raised her eyebrow, unimpressed. “That’s the best you can do?”
“For you, Pepa, yes. Take it or leave it.”
“It’s a good thing I didn’t invite you to the party!” she retorted. A devious thought sprang up in her mind. Taking a moment to collect herself, she continued, “Bruno’s going to be there, you know, and he’s had some nasty visions lately. He looked shaken up the last few times he had one. I think he mentioned your name, too…” She let the implication hang in the air. “Oh, there he is now! Bruno!” She waved him down.
Bruno wandered over, holding a half-eaten arepa. “Did you get the decorations, Pepa?” He asked, munching on his snack casually.
“Not yet.” She tapped her foot impatiently, glowering at Osvaldo.
Wanting to diffuse the tension, Bruno spoke up. “Oh, hey, Osvaldo. Nice stand.”
“Thanks, hombre.”
An awkward silence permeated the air. Pepa’s storm clouds weren’t helping matters either.
“Is there any way you can give my sister the decorations so we can leave?” He asked bluntly.
Osvaldo shrugged. “Sorry, Bruno. She’s being a pain.”
Pepa opened her mouth to protest, but Bruno covered it with his hands, pushing her back. “You know how she gets.” He chuckled apologetically.
Pepa clenched her fists, seething. How dare he? He was supposed to be on her side!
“Maybe you can sell them to me instead,” Bruno suggested, shooting her a look to shut up. “I’m not being a pain.”
Osvaldo shook his head. “They’d still be for Félix, so no can do. Besides, I wasn’t even invited to the party. Why would I want to help?”
“That’s too bad, it’s gonna be a great party.” Bruno finished off the arepa, licking the crumbs off his fingers. “These arepas are really good. I’m going to go get some more,” he announced to Pepa and Osvaldo, who were now having a staring match.
“Oh, I love them!” Osvaldo exclaimed. “I get them every day, they’re so good.”
“Every day, huh?” Bruno sized him up and down. “Careful there, buddy. Those pants won’t keep stretching forever.”
Osvaldo frowned, looking down at his pants. “What do you mean?”
But Bruno had already walked away in search of more arepas. “I could bring you some, but you should probably go easy on them,” he called back.
Osvaldo looked at Pepa searchingly. “Was that…?”
Suddenly, Pepa snapped her fingers as if realizing something. “That must have been the vision he had! You’re going to get fat!” She patted his stomach affectionately. “How embarrassing. It would be a shame if everyone in town found out that’s what your future holds.” She fixed him with a determined look.
Osvaldo closed his eyes, defeated. “Tell me which decorations you want.”
She paused, pretending to think. “I’m not sure how much money I have with me.”
He waved off her comment hurriedly. “Just promise not to tell anyone and I’ll give you whatever decorations you want, free of charge.”
“Whatever decorations I want?” Her eyes sparkled with possibility.
That night, the Madrigals were enjoying the party. Everything had gone according to plan. The table was laden with all sorts of delicious foods, including the cake, which was almost gone. Music was booming thanks to the band playing that evening- all lively tunes, just like Félix liked. Thanks to Pepa’s ingenuity, their casita had been decked out in the most lavish decorations: banners, lights, streamers, even some things Pepa hadn’t thought of that Osvaldo had thrown in after being properly motivated.
But the best part was the fireworks. They exploded in the night sky; a brilliant display of colors splashed across the darkness.
Pepa watched them, leaning on Félix’s shoulder as they sat and ate their cake. “Do you like it, mi sol?”
“Like it?” He asked incredulously, bringing another forkful of cake to his mouth. “I love it! How did you get fireworks? I thought they were sold out.”
She pooh-poohed the question. “Nonsense, mi amor. Whatever mi esposo wants for his birthday, he gets.”
He gazed at her adoringly. Even though they’d been married a few years now, the lovestruck expression never faded from his face. “Thank you, mi vida.” He gave her a sticky kiss on the lips. “This is truly the best birthday ever.”
Seeing the pure unadulterated joy on his face, Pepa had to agree.

Isabela hadn't meant to almost kill her little sister.
yet all it took was a small argument to burst the dam Isabela had kept away. Enough to bring everything Isabela had built to the floor. Enough that Abuela wouldn't look at her without shame, that Luisa was hesitant to leave her alone with anyone, the anger Camilo gave her and the tenseness of her tio...the cracking thunder of her Tia...
Would they ever forgive her? Would they let her drown in her regret or pull her out of it? Would she forgive herself?
Chapter 33 snippet
“Portillo?”
“Si, that’s my maiden name. I took the Rojas name when I married your grandfather.” She shrugged, “my family wasn’t impressed but I was happy.” She exhaled deeply, turning the page back to the wedding photograph with a passive sense of sadness, but acceptance of it as well. “You know, this photograph was taken a few days before we had to flee and I was about… seven months pregnant with your Tio, Dante Rojas.”
“I have a Tio?”
Abuelita shook her head. “No, he…died shortly after his birth. Our escape caused me to fall into early labor.” She exhaled deeply, “I didn’t know I was pregnant at the time and… he was born too premature.”

I think I’ve come up with a more in-depth overview of that AU for Luisa!!!
This Luisa doesn’t get her gift when she was 5, and instead grew up in her family’s shadow gift-less, Mirabel herself also doesn’t get a gift which leads the two to grow up close in the emotional neglect of not having magic from Abuela, despite Agustin and Julieta’s love and words of encouragement.
Pepa’s side of the family get’s more burdened as a result of the misbalance of magical family members. leading more tensions between Julieta and Pepa that only grew after Bruno Disappeared
Felix and Agustin helped with Casita in building Luisa and Mirabel their own room when it became apparent that she was growing out of the nursery and needed her own space. It had originally been planned for just Luisa but the 9 year old had a point, if she was getting her own room, Why wouldn’t little Mirabel? Luisa was 10 when it was completed and overjoyed, even if it was a little small; it was her space. Little Mirabel and Luisa often had sleepovers together until Luisa was 12 when Luisa hit not only puberty but also a growth spurt; while she may not be thick and muscly, she surpassed her father’s height by the time she was 16
Luisa was put to help more often with her Tio Felix and Father and helped more in town when she was younger, in part to earn good favour with the village as Mirabel but favoured towards helping with the animals like the donkey and helping bring them back in when they escaped from their pen.
In time she had gotten close with a few of the boys but dared not to tell Abuela as she didn’t want the attention to be taken away as both Isabela and Dolores were also seeking for partners. Luisa knew Dolores was crushing on Mariano but Abuela had Mariano lined up for Isabela. So Luisa felt like she was under the radar nonetheless.
She had a boyfriend, Caden Badillo who was about her age who helped in the farms and donkeys; where they met when she was 15 but didn’t date until a few months before her 16th birthday.
When she was turning 17, Caden found a set of Metallic Cuffs in the barn; they looked like a perfect gift for Luisa so he wrapped them up and gave them to her. This led to the two to happily “celebrate” in the barn, as being in Casita may be too risky in getting caught.
Upon putting the bracelets on the next morning, Luisa found herself with super strength but found controlling such strength very hard and a few accidents happened that Luisa couldn’t explain well but Abuela was quick to realise that her ‘gift’ must have appeared, not realising the cuffs she wore was the reason for it. This new ‘gift’ this did leave Mirabel jealous following that reveal and for a few weeks avoided Luisa.
Luisa did attempt to get back with Caden more intimately but her  strength posed too dangerous for him; breaking a few bones and crippling his hips that even her mother’s food took a while to help him to get him back to simply walking. The two broke up after that.
But Dolores was the first to pick to the extra fluttering to realise that Luisa was pregnant before she understood and read up on the physical symptoms. Luisa tried to get Dolores to say nothing on the matter but Dolores caved after Luisa almost had a glass of wine at differ; having forgotten herself she couldn't have it. Her snatching it off her was a tell that Dolores knew something before the girl spilled and the family dinner ended up a debate and a lecture to Luisa for being careless and putting the family at risk.
For weeks, there was debate on what to do but Luisa decided to leave Encanto than risk herself being pressured into giving the baby up, even to her own family, as Abuela wasn’t going to kick her out (nor rid the baby from the family entirely, it’s a Madrigal and a potential for a gift) and her ex-boyfriend wasn’t going to marry her either given what she had done to him. There was concern she may hurt the baby by accident with her strength.
Unknown to Luisa, the cuffs were an Architect's artefact that the Watcher AU try to locate; on or off a person. They’re not typically found until after being put on as the magic is distinctly different to the AU’s magic systems. When Luisa left Encanto, the Watcher Au dispatched a friendly team to recruit Luisa from her AU after she passed Encanto’s boarders; offering her medical support for the baby and herself; also means of control for her gift and a job. With very little in the way of other options, Luisa agreed.
Many months later, 3 months before her 18th birthday, Luisa gave birth to healthy twins, a boy and a girl. (names tbd)

If they make an Encanto 2 they should absolutely explore the girls relationship with their dad's side of the family. I get that they had to have Mirabel be the only superpowered one in the family, but she's got to have a family on her dad's side.
Oh I totally agree! I would love that especially for Dolores and I want to see more of the Black side of the family. ;(

Can you do a julieta x fem y/n story where agustín cheats with one of mirabels friends and y/n is her older sister( like twenty years older) and helps julieta but the family is cautious around her since she's related to the girl?
What about agusstin cheating with a woman above Isabela s age ?
Mirabels age seems too underage-

loving moments part 1
Tumblr media
(ready to read at Ao3) the moments we share
Pairing: Mariano Guzmán/Dolores Madrigal
Rating: Teen and Up Audiences
Summary:
The moments Dolores and Mariano share before Casita broke down.
(Previously named: Moments in Between.
Age references of timeskips are provided at the end notes in Ao3)
Author’s highlight (author’s favorite part/ part they liked writing the most or found most entertaining):
“Dear Mariano, have you met our wonderful Isabela?”
Abuela introduces Isabela to Mariano, sharing praises and attempting to be subtle with her matchmaking. Setting up a foundation of interest for the pair. It was then that her Tio Bruno’s words came back to her. His vision about her being in a complicated situation with the future love of her life.
From then on, she does her utmost best not to be attached to the kind and musical boy. But if she were to look back behind her that night, to even take a glimpse of the young boy trying to pay attention to the Madrigal matriarch, she would have seen a disappointed Mariano wishing to ask her for a dance.

bh6 au bh6 au bh6 au!!! AHUAHSF but heya, hope you're doing well, and we dont have a specific name for this au yet, mayhaps we can find one but yesyes bh6 au!! (i am going insane /lh) me is attempting to write rn hehe <3
BH6 AU💪💪💪
It’s so cool, me and the asker have been working on it <333 instead of gifts, they specialize in certain tech and stuff 🗿
Basically Pedro is there. And it’s Antonio’s presentation at the college (he’s still 5, they’re all prodigies and presented at 5, except Mirabel who presented a little later cause she hadn’t decided her science concentration yet 😭😭). Anyway, Pedro sacrifices himself to save Señora Guzmán and boom died.
Alma hid the project he was gonna show the family that he was working on for a long time: Baymax. Basically Mirabel and the grandkids find him and he’s chill, helping them grieve and stuff. The pressure for this au is Alma taking Pedro’s saying “someone has to help” as the family needed to use their tech and intelligence around the city to help other people. And never expand on their tech. Always the same thing.
Anyway, here’s their sciences (all the Madrigals, including the husbands + Alma and Oedro are like. Literal prodigies, mostly in science, but other stuff 🤧):
Fields of Study:
pedro - robotics
alma - forensic engineering
-------
julieta - health sciences
agustin - language and literature
pepa - meteorology
felix - sociology and music
bruno - physics
-------
isabela - botany
dolores - acoustics
luisa - kinesiology

There’s so much more about this au but like. That’s the gist of it <333 if you guys have any ideas LET US KNOWWWWW ‼️‼️‼️ the adults actually later becomes hero’s and funnily enough they’re all hiding it from each other and Alma is entirely clueless 😭😭
Well, the grandkids become super cool heros and obviously Baymax is there (I didn’t draw him YET 💀) and here are their designs <333 COLOR COMING TO TUMBKR DASH NEAR YOU📸📸
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here’s their tech and stuff:
Isabela, maybe something similar to Honey Lemon, but she uses the chemicals of different plants that has different (non lethal) effects? She throws pollen pods like honey lemon does and whatever plants she makes all disappear after a certain amount of time or something, oh and her vines she uses to swing ofc, they're very durable. CARBON FIBER VINES ❗❗
Dolores, maybe she uses soundwaves and sounds in general, and uses something similar to a giant megaphone and speaks; does a lot of knockback.
Luisa, I feel like she would have attachable enhancements, kinda like gauntlets and boots that allow her to further utilize her strength and stamina etc etc
Camilo, maybe his tech tricks the mind, lots of illusions and stuff, and he definitely has a camouflage suit, so he's good for stealth and sneaking up on enemies. He might also go beyond from just people, might even have animals and objects too since its really illusion (mayhaps an upgrade later down the line in their endeavor) Ohhh, a upgrade would be really good and show how he (and the others) develop his tech further
Mirabel’s tech works with Baymax, so it's pretty similar to Hiro's, though I think she would be a jack of all trades as well. Also mentioned in what i wrote that she has a bag of tech goodies (inspired by her good ol bag in canon and also that one ask i saw about her magic bag)
Antonio, like I said before, uses robot animals. He builds them and sends then out, controlling them maybe via a headset similar to the microbots, and the animals have cameras so he can see what they see. I think maybe when he builds P.A.R.C.E (the giant robot jaguar; a.k.a Precision Automated Robotic Companion Entity) the other grandkids will let him go out to battle. Also lets him be at the final battle.
Still working on the adults 🤭🤭🤭

Encanto Headcanons Nobody Asked For
Hello! I am putting off writing my last essay of the semester, so here are some headcanons!
The thing where the kids touch the candle and promise to help Encanto however they can started as Alma's way to reassure nervous villagers that the Madrigals wouldn't misuse their gifts.
When Alma first got her door and saw an old woman on it, she was super confused, but also too tired from the day's events to question it too much. When she eventually looks the same as her picture on the door she has a small mid-life crisis that she reveals to nobody.
Same for each of the triplets.
People do actually break into song in universe, it is a side effect of all the magic in Encanto. The first time it happened was about seven months in and everybody freaked out about it for months.
Alma eventually gets used to the singing thing and never thinks to mention it isn't normal to her kids or grandkids. In fact, most people in Encanto take the singing for granted, so when the mountains open up and they get a few new villagers nobody bothers to warn them that the village will regularly break into song.
I know the creators said the village is completely self sufficient, but like... where's the quarry for all the stone? Where are they making glass, that requires a specific kind of sand, do they have that sand? How are they getting new books? Nah bro, the village has three merchants who journey past the mountains twice a year.
I know the generally accepted headcanon is that Agustin was born outside of the Encanto, but I think his parents were city dwellers visiting family when the village got raided. They escaped with their hosts and planned to take their family back to the city with them, then ended up in a magic paradise instead.
In the same vein, Agustin's dad was a banker and has become the town's unofficial treasurer since that's about the only way he can contribute with his skill set.
Agustin's mother passed in childbirth, his father eventually remarried, but only after a few years of grieving. Agustin has three much younger half siblings.
Bubba comes to Encanto and does indeed get with Isabela, but I mean... some AMAB dude who surrounds himself with the trappings of masculinity and had zero problem seeing through Isabella's hyper feminine facade? Trans woman Bubba. All I'm saying. (Transphobes dni, neither of us will change the other's mind).
The art book had something about Isabela looking more indigenous than her sisters, so we know the family has indigenous roots. I wasn't able to find a lot about queer history in Colombia, but I did see that two native men were murdered by colonizers for being gay out in the open. That kinda implies that homophobia comes from the colonialist side of modern Colombia. I choose to believe that Alma has a great aunt on the native side of her family who is married to a woman. She grew up hearing that they have to keep the marriage secret to protect her aunts, so when she notices Bruno has a boyfriend, she starts planning a secret wedding without mentioning anything to Bruno.
Bruno doesn't realize his mama knows he's not straight, he thinks he's hidden it very well. When Isabela and Bubba nervously come out at dinner and Alma asks Bruno if he has any advice about being queer, Bruno inhales what he's eating and needs the Heimlich.
I agree in general with queer Madrigal headcanons, but I'm also aware that we're dealing with an isolated community a couple decades before the lgbt rights movement really kicked off in Colombia. I suspect most of the characters wouldn't use any of the labels we use today, and in fact, characters like Mirabel wouldn't stop to consider they're not straight until they've already been happily married for two decades.
That said, I think Mirabel is what we consider to be bi with a heavy preference for men. Her husband is quiet and doesn't have a single creative bone in his body, but thinks everything she sews deserves to be put in a museum. They bond because he commissions her to make something for his mother.
Luisa gets a tiny little husband who falls to pieces when she flexes. He does not understand people who say she is too masculine, or call Isabela the pretty one.
Camilo's youngest son is autistic, not that any of them know that's what the kid's deal is. Camilo just thinks his son is hilariously blunt and really into bugs. He doesn't really get how the kid can spend hours looking at an ant hill without getting bored, but whatever, he'll just buy the kid an ant farm for his birthday.
When women marry into the Madrigal family that don't have anybody to walk them down the aisle, they ask Tio Bruno to do it. It started with Camilo's wife, whose father is abusive, and became a tradition as the family grew.
When Mirabel becomes a grandmother the family starts calling her Mirabuela. Similarly, Antonio eventually becomes Tio Nio, to the point that some people forget he has a first name.
I actually have a lot of headcanons about the future of the Madrigal family but this is getting long, so I'm going to stop. I've ended up mentally writing whole ass fics for Camilo's wife and his youngest granddaughter, as well as for Mirabel's daughter, and Dolores' great grandson, so if I get into all of that this thing is going to triple in length.

(The Madrigals are at church. Agustin puts twenty pesos in the donation dish without looking)
Luisa: Papa, that was a twenty.
Agustin: DA--
(He puts money in the Madrigal family swear jar. Agustin is now out bowling with Felix and Bruno. The last pin tips over but doesn't fall.)
Agustin: Oh, YOU SON OF A--
(Swear jar. Agustin is now in the village running errands when Osvaldo with a clean-shaven face sees him.)
Osvaldo: Hey, Gus! You know, I owe you one, buddy! No sooner had I shaved off the old cookie duster than a lady cast me in a commercial. I tell ya, the way these checks keep coming in, it's almost criminal!
Agustin: YOU DIRTY BAS--
(Swear jar. Agustin is now helping Antonio build a playhouse for Parce)
Agustin: What do you think, Tonito?
Antonio: How's Parce supposed to get in?
Agustin: Well, he just goes... (realizes he forgot the door) AH--
(Swear jar. Agustin is asleep in the backyard. A beehive lands on top of him and he screams. Swear jar. Agustin is now finishing the last touches for Parce's playhouse. He hits his thumb with the hammer.)
Agustin: Oh... fudge... that's... broken. (He steps on a nail) Fiddle dee dee... that will require a tetanus shot. I'm not going to swear. But I am going to KICK THIS PLAYHOUSE DOWN!
(He begins kicking Parce's playhouse)

Descendants Headcanons/Wickedverse Guide
Some of these aren't so much "headcanons" as things I'm using in my post-canon universe, named the Wickedverse. Me and my sister share this universe, so she has a lot of influence with some of these. Will get updated as I add/change ideas.
Lore
Centuries before Auradon was formed, there was a great war between the kingdoms. After years of fighting, they made an agreement on territory and everyone closed their borders. This lead to kingdoms/cities to develop at different rates, due to different resources. Many years later, all the fairytales/stories happen over the course of seven years or so. Then, Auradon is formed.
The formation of Auradon (and the Isle) created the Age of Goodness (AOG). Upon it's creation, was year 1.
Since Descendants takes place twenty years after the AOG, it is year twenty
The first Isle book takes place in the July before Descendants. Descendants occurs in September-October (as Ben's birthday is in October), and Wicked World happens in November. The second and third Isle books take place in January of year 21. Since D2 takes place six months after D1 it occurs in March of 21. The fourth Isle book takes place in May of 22. D3, taking place after the older have graduated, occurs in June of year 22.
Some other Disney properties are included that aren't specifically mention in canon: Frozen, Frozen II, Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure (TV series), Encanto, Big Hero 6, Raya, and definitely more.
Mal and Ben's wedding is on the 13th of April, almost a year after D3.
Sometime after D3, the Isle of the Lost is renamed the Isle of the Found.
Family
Uma and Freddie are twin sisters, having been separated after Dr. Facilier and Ursula broke up. Freddie and Uma were unaware of this, and found out in the events of Never Knew I Lost You (coming soon).
In addition, Celia has a different mother, an OC named Lauren.
This is also why Facilier seemed to dislike Freddie (though, her abuse portrayed in the Wickedverse is probably worse than it is in canon), as he dislikes her mother. Whereas he favored Celia, since he likes her mother. Also why Ursula didn't care much about Uma, having become despondent after losing her partner and daughter.
King Philip has three sisters, Brigitte, Bianca, and Marya, taken from the book A Twisted Tale: Once Upon a Dream by Liz Braswell. Bianca is Ariana's mother and Marya has a daughter named Naomi.
Lumiere is married to Fairy Godmother, and is Jane's father.
Evie and Dizzy have the same father, Hans, making them half-sisters.
Doug's mother, named Clarita in this universe, is from Encanto. Agustin is her maternal uncle, making him Doug's great uncle.
Jay's mother was a woman from Agrabah named Lulu. She dealt in some shady business, thus why she was sent to the Isle. She died from an illness when Jay was five.
The sea witches mentioned in the first Isle book are Morgana's daughter, and Uma's cousins, instead of sisters.
Hadie's mother is an OC named Lian Teng. She is the sister of one of the Huns that survived the avalanche. He was all she had, so she followed him to the Isle. She worked in Hades's Souvlaki and her and Hades had a brief relationship a while after his break up with Maleficent. Hadie is three years younger than Mal.
Harriet, Harry, and CJ's mother is a woman named Red Jessica from Jake and the Neverland Pirates TV series. However, she is only the same character; her role and relationship with Hook is different in the Wickedverse than the cartoon.
Carlos's father is Bruno Madrigal from Encanto (inspired by @silverloreley 's headcanon and discussions). Bruno had a bad vision about Cruella and went to warn her about it. They had an unexpected connection, and one thing led to another.
Melody (from the Little Mermaid sequel) and Zephyr (from the Hunchback of Notre Dame sequel) are married and have a (currently unamed) child.
Friendships
Prior to the events of Wicked World, and possibly D1, Jordan and Ally become best friends after Jordan helps Ally out of a bad relationship.
Jane and Freddie become best friends during the events of Wicked World.
Likewise, Uma and Audrey become best friends sometime after the events of Descendants 3.
Because of the discovery of Uma and Freddie being twins, they start spending time together. To not leave Jane and Audrey out, the four of them hang out together often, forming a friend group similar to the Core Four.
A few months before the Bal wedding, Lonnie and CJ meet and become best friends.
Characters
As a reason for why Carlos was not at Mal and Ben's wedding (and why the rest of the Core Four were sad about it), he develops COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and goes into a coma a couple weeks before the wedding. He wakes up a few weeks afterwards.
Some last name headcanons:
Dwarf last names are from gems and the Seven Dwarves' last name is Lazuli, from lapis lazuli. This makes Doug's full name Doug Lazuli.
Maleficent and Mal's last name is Dragonheart, making Mal's full name Maleficent "Mal" Bertha Dragonheart.
Ben's last name is Leroi, meaning "the king" in French (taken from @hitchell-mope)
Evie's last name is Grimhilde, mostly taken from the fandom.
Jane's last name is Faery, and Fairy Godmother's real name is Joan.
Audrey gives up her birthright to rule Auroria, deciding that isn't the path for her. Naomi will rule Auroria instead. (Which was also what they were planning to do when they thought Audrey would be queen of Auradon).
Uma becomes leader of the Isle after D3, with Harry, Gil, and her crew acting as her advisors/council/soldiers.
OCs
Varian and Cassandra (from the Tangles series) are married and have two kids, Caelan and Valeria.
Anna and Kristoff are married and two sons, Alaric and Kade.
Raya has a son named River.
Maleficent has a younger brother named Kaveh, who comes to Auradon a few years after D3 to help stop a new threat. He previously lived in the Moorlands, the ancestral home of dark fairies and Maleficent's homeland.
Ally has a (currently unnamed) older brother.
Snow White and Prince Florian have a (currently unnamed) child.
Scar (who was turned into a human before being put on the Isle) has a daughter named Safiya.
Mirabel is married to a man named Rico and they have two kids, Anabel and Matteo. Others from Encanto also have kids, but most are currently unnamed.

Part three of the timeline is out!
Terror of El Ojos Diablos
1877-1884 (Age 21-28)
Word spreads about a notoriously violent and inebriated man. A man with the devil's eyes that allegedly flashed an unholy green before he began shooting anybody in his way, man, woman, or child. Folks who had been going about their business only to be gunned down by a drunk on the street. This earnt him the moniker El Ojos Diablos (Butchered Spanish meaning The Devil's Eyes). And the legends around El Ojos Diablos were so tall that identifying him proved difficult. This Wild West Boogeyman's descriptions ranged from overblown to hideous. Witness accounts proved untrustworthy because of the terror and superstition that surrounded him. The only constants about El Ojos Diablos were that he wore a tattered poncho and spoke Spanish.
Any outlaws who rode with El Ojos Diablos never lasted long. They died either because they irritated the boss, were a convenient meat shield, or for some other reason that benefited El Ojos Diablos—as bitter and selfish as he was.
El Ojos Diablos committed crimes for two reasons: To keep his men around and to ensure he had a regular supply of alcohol and bullets. For the devil suffered from frequent mood swings and terrible visions, which did little to improve his already sour demeanor. Alcohol relieved his agony while also putting him to sleep. He appeared to want to drink till darkness overtook him so that time would pass swiftly. Bullets put an end to any grievances he had. And if he ever ran out, you can bet he'd crawl out of whatever hole he'd hidden himself in to start the cycle all over again.
El Ojos Diablos' terrible tales spread far and wide. Tales that eventually reached Encanto. This was too much for the Madrigals because El Brujo's acts paled in comparison to those of El Ojos Diablos. So much so that Alma forbids any mention of Bruno's existence. Alma, Julieta, and Pepa all deal with their sadness privately in different ways.
Agustin pays frequent trips to Julieta since his accident-prone antics get him hurt all the time. This helps them to become more intimate. Agustin discusses the incident in Perdition, but he is too ashamed and guilty to go any further.
Felix Freeman, a former Caribbean Island plantation slave turned excellent marksman known as Halcon Eye, sought out Él Ojos Diablos in 1878. He wishes to join forces with Terror Numero Uno. As a test, Él Ojos Diablos has Felix compete against his present marksman, an annoying braggart named Ramon, whom Halcon Eye then kills with a single shot through the heart. Felix rides as Él Ojos Diablos' unofficial right-hand man for four years. He essentially became the gang's longest-living member, a feat deemed unthinkable given the low life expectancy when riding with the devil's eyes.
Agustin and Julieta married joyfully at the end of 1882. Meanwhile, El Ojos Diablos and his crew are hiding out in Revelation, New Mexico. When El Ojos Diablos shoots down five street youths who insulted him, Felix witnesses his true cold-blooded character.
Unable to follow El Ojos Diablos any longer, Halcon Eye persuades fellow gang members Buscemi, Quinn, McGinley, David, and Levine to grab what loot they could and depart to Mexico. This sentenced all five of them to death. Nobody leaves Terror Numero Uno unless it's with a bullet. He'd pursue them to the ends of the Earth. And he did so.
The deserters, led by Felix, did everything they could to elude their former leader while fleeing to Mexico. They each die one by one. Buscemi has a hole blown through his face; Quinn is shot up until Felix puts him out of his misery; McGinley gets left behind after his horse is slain but remains defiant till the very end; David commits suicide out of sheer fear and paranoia; and Levine is killed just as they reach the Rio Grande.
Facing the end, Felix manages to kill Diablos' remaining men, leaving only himself and the devil. He is unexpectedly saved by a swarm of glowing butterflies, allowing him to escape by leaping into the Rio Grande. The now-alone El Ojos Diablos vows to kill Felix if they ever cross paths again.
Felix floats down the river till he reaches the site of Pedro's death. Felix pursues a golden butterfly into Encanto after dragging his ass out from the river. When Alma questions him, Felix decides to provide an incomplete truth: He and his buddies were attempting to cross into Mexico when they were pursued by outlaws, his comrades were slaughtered, and only he escaped. This response suffices for the Madrigal Matriarch, who greets him as a new inhabitant of Encanto.
Felix keeps his vow and works hard to become a better person. He falls in love with Pepa, which leads to marriage. Their wedding day turns into a hurricane when a scraplet detailing El Ojos Diablos’ latest misdeeds causes Pepa to become emotionally distraught, though Felix is quick to calm his beloved down.
1885 (Age 29)
Agustin and Julieta’s daughter Isabela is born. A few months later, so is Felix and Pepa’s firstborn daughter Dolores.
1887 (Age 31)
Agustin and Julieta’s second daughter Luisa is born.

tw infant death mention
Isabela huffed out as she finished up the last spool of cotton threading into her basket and began to close and secure the wheel to return. As tomorrow, Mateo would be finishing up making her own Spinning wheel she had bought so she didn’t need to borrow. After four months of learning, Isa had now somewhat mastered wool and cotton now so the family that taught her seemed somewhat happy to let her go on her own now. She just needed to return her tools of the trade back to the family.
It was odd now, to drop such a part of her life that would open up far too much free time than she wanted—it itched her now to find something else to fill that time though…she wasn’t desperate enough to add more time to her weaving lessons. She still hated the looms with a passion but the work put in, she could see it’s produce to not hate it as much. Sheets of fabric to a small tapestry of colors. She had progressed from two types of looms and was now learning the most complex of the looms, the floor loom, which was still tedious but as much as she hated it, it kept her busy.
More so when she had her week in Casita; it kept her away.
The family…felt different now and in a way that Isabela felt very uncertain about. Her father… he had been the most common person to seek her out or even ask about her work and she felt happy to talk to him about it, showing him the new threads she had made or the start of a basic tapestry she was designing.
Both Tio Bruno and Tio Felix seemed somewhat on par with Agustín as well in her work which was probably the most she was getting from the rest of the familia given she had tried to show Abuela her work, but Abuela’s reactions had always felt…flat. So she stopped trying with Abuela in most regards—she couldn’t keep expecting much more and the disinterest was disheartening but she got her praises from her other grandparents to make up for it. Avoiding Abuela had become 'the normal' outside of her chores.
Much like her mother, she did avoid her much more nowadays. Perhaps a little petty—as Luisa described it—but Isabela felt justified to maintain her distance. The first week back in Casita after her first week with her grandparents, Julieta had offered the evening before bed to help her bake a few things ready for the morning.
It worked for three evenings.
The last evening ended with Isabela storming off with the validation that her mother’s fears would never truly leave her. Isabela had been happy and had pulled her mother into a hug. A hug that was met with her mother flinching back and turning stiff in her arms. Popping that growing hope of reconnection in a heartbeat before Julieta tried to backtrack on her reactions. There was an apology… but Isa didn’t try to recall.
She didn’t try to take her up on any further offers. Tried not to let her mother’s attempts to try again to get to her, or as even her father or Luisa tried to goad her into reconciling but… Isabela just...couldn’t take that hope again. Not when it ended with the fact her mother couldn’t actually tolerate her. Couldn’t trust her mother’s façade around her now.
At least now, she looked forwards to her grandparent’s household for the week. It was different… like a fresh breath of air, the feeling of being wanted and…the attention from her Abuelita felt wonderful. It felt nice to be wanted than tolerated so she had stayed up till her 9 pm curfew in conversation on her work… and she had even plucked up the courage to even tell them about her gift…how that had changed and what she could make.
Suffice to say—much to Fran’s horror—Bubo, B2 and the latest addition to the potato Family, Lumpy—now seemed to live in her Abuelito’s back garden. Isa had to ask Antonio to warn the cats away from the backyard at least, or they’d be mauling them at any opportunity. It seemed that her Abuelito had even gone as far as to make a little ruana and hats for the potatoes which…were adorable to see them in.
Isabela had decorated her new room well but limited what she grew—for the most part there was no magical water source for her plants to draw life from so nothing would actually stay alive in a small room. Her room was her father’s old one; repainted and new furniture though most things had been moved into the attic.
Isabela felt so much more happier now, despite her distance from most of her other family—she didn’t try to see how they coped without her; probably were preferring it when she was away—Camilo certainly seemed far chipper about it as well, Dolores looked…a little more relaxed. Mirabel seemed to find some reason to cross paths with her despite Luisa’s hovering in those passings.
Isabela made the final checks over the wheel, collecting up borrowed spools and tools, and swiftly headed out of her home, her feet treading the path towards the spinner’s house through town, her eyes lingered a little as she saw Bella Lopez with her mother, looking to be waving away a minor injury towards the clinic stall than the magical one. So many months on, they were still trying their luck with her mother’s gift.
Once the wheel was dropped off, Isabela took a detour to her Abuelita’s shop and stepped in.
“Abuelita?” She called.
“Back rooms.” The familiar voice called.
Abuelita looked to be busy pinning up the hems of a dress when she poked her head around the door, though to her surprise it was Fran standing as the model above her, looking displeased about being there.
“Blame my mama,” Fran called immediately when she noticed her.
“I wasn’t going to say anything,” Isabela assured with a smirk at her friend’s misfortune. “It’s a nice dress.”
“It’s for my sister. She’s too busy to size it up herself. I have other things to do…like my boyfriend” Fran sighed dramatically as if her previously uncertain relationship hadn’t actually turned into something more genuine. “What are you doing here?”
“I was about to ask that myself,” Abuelita interrupted with amusement lacing her tone, her eyes flickering above her glasses as she pulled out a pin from the pin cushion on her wrist.
“I’m here to drop off these.” From her bag, she pulled out the three spools of white thread. With her gift, she could now simply grow cotton balls in her hands without the need of the rest of the plant first, like flower petals than just the flower or just flower's colored pollen. It had been something she had to learn to expand. Now it was very helpful in filling up pillows and blankets and mostly, making her own threads.
“Thread?” Fran echoed. “All that way for three spools?”
“Personally crafted thread, thank you very much.” Isabela gave her a soft look though happily handed them over. “I’ve handed back the old tools since they’re now discontinued. I heard tomorrow, Mateo will finish my spindle wheel.” She smiled, “Seemed like a good time to hand back the old and make way for the new.”
“I’ll drop it off as soon as I can for you,” Fran promised.
“I don’t mind picking it up for you.” Abuelita spoke up, “Tomorrow is going to be busy but that shouldn’t be too much hassle.”
“Thank you but I can’t ask you to detour somewhere when you’re still making preparations for Christmas. Much to repair and new clothes for the children.” The Día de las velitas had been days ago and things were now in swing for the Christmas season in terms of food and celebration and for the children, when baby Jesus would drop off their presents when the week would arrive.
It felt odd to be so close to Christmas already. Birthdays had flown by, her mother and her sibling's 51st had been a big event given it was the first time they would be back as a triplet set to celebrate, Felix’s birthday, Luisa’s 20th, and soon…It would be Camilo’s sixteenth which Isabela planned on not attending at all. She had made him a simple pot, decorated with paint with crack designs as a passive-aggressive symbol of his actions. She planned to put orange butterfly weed and she knew he certainly wouldn’t see any positive symbols in that.
“I can make exceptions for my granddaughter and I didn’t take on three apprentices for nothing.”
“You’re not talking your way out of your Abuelita.” Fran remarked, “Though, Señora Rojas, you will have to tell them it’s for Mirabel. Señor Marquez and his daughter have an axe to grind with Isabela. They’ll avoid giving it if they know who it’s for.”
That caught Abuelita’s attention. “Excuse me.” She straightened up, almost pinning Fran in the leg as she looked up.
Fran shot her a look to say ‘you-didn’t-tell-her?’. Isabela just shrugged.
“It’s nothing, Abuelita.”
“It’s not nothing if people are still refusing you service!” She scowled, “talk about losing business…”
“Abuela’s sorted it as far as she can, Abuelita. Now, Mateo Marquez is the one that’s fine with me, he’ll make what I’ll commission but he tends to use a fake name for me so his family doesn’t try and…discourage him from his work.” Which was putting it lightly.
It was ironic and hypocritical in Isabela’s eyes that the family hated her for hurting her sister when his sister hurts him over the smallest of things or being moody. Fran knew now, of course, and they helped patch him up but they started to find a way to get him out of that situation. Fran had been more available to get things sorted and Isabela hadn’t yet asked about it and Mateo himself didn’t know—he’d try and talk them out of it if he knew.
Abuelita wrinkled her nose, muttering under her breath, and got back to finishing the pins and helped the dress off, and made a few notes on her pad of paper. Fran disappeared behind the screen to redress
“I’m heading back home. Did you need me to bring food back first from the shops?”
“Actually, I need you to pick up the instruments you dug out the attic from the music shop and some sheet music. I want to see how they’ve refurbished them.” Abuelita remembered, “Also, when you get back, can you look through some of the boxes you brought down as well? I want to know what’s inside them before we throw them out.”
“Okay.” She bid her farewells to her grandmother and to Fran.

Getting the instruments was a quick affair from the Castillo familia, Isabela carefully balanced the violin case and the guitar back to her home and set them on the table for when the two would return and set about the boxes in the living room.
Opening a few to reveal they were filled with her father’s things so she set them aside for him to pick up himself, another few were her Tia’s. It made her smile as she saw a box filled with drawings; hand made by children if the pencil marks were any indication.
The few two boxes weren’t to her father or Tia, mostly her grandparent's stuff but Isabela’s attention caught onto a large book at the bottom of three age-withered baby blankets and fabric pieces. It’s outside was blank, nothing to detail what it was about until she flipped open the hardcover
Inside the pages were both covered in photographs and notes of context or names and dates underneath or beside, the pages separated by a sheet of tissue paper to spare the pictures from sticking to each other.
Her eyebrows pulled in thoughtfully, though she couldn’t help but realize the dates: all before 1900. Before Encanto.
There were lots of faces, even a hand-drawn picture of a tiny, newborn asleep in his blanket that was dated October 17th, 1900. Her parent’s birthday which was somewhat confusing but she found herself at the end with empty pages far too soon, going back to the start again.
Isabela had heard when her grandparents arrived back from work, though she idly called to them. Her fingers flicked through until she found herself staring at the centerpiece of a wedding again, doing her best to properly soak it in than another passing glance.
Isabela’s eyes flickered to the photograph; it was old and very faded but she could still make out through the grains of both her grandparents in their youth; a white dress of beauty and so carefully tailored that only seemed to suggest that Abuelita had made it herself. Abuelito looked…so young.
“What are you looking at?” Abuelita asked, setting down the tray of tea and sitting next to her, eyeing the alum in her hands. “Our album?”
“Si, I found them in the bottom of the box under some baby blankets but…I got sidetracked.” Isabela admitted. “Your dress is stunning.”
Abuelita chuckled, “Ay, Me and my Mami make that dress. She loved making wedding dressing…and quinceañera dresses. She always used to talk about the markings of a woman’s life were reflected in what the dresses were made for.” Her eyes were soft in memory, taking the album from her hands and going back a few pages to Abuelita’s family. She could see so many faces…at least twenty from old age to new-born resting on their mother’s chest.
“I didn’t realize our family was that big.” Isabela mused, leaning forwards but she had figured it must have been something with Abuelita’s family. “How many siblings did you have?”
“Well… I was one of seven, not including the ones that died, I had a lot of aunts and uncles of course. I was the youngest grandchild. My grandfather,” she pointed to the eldest man there, “He was what pushed our family into tailors. Some went into weaving and spinning while my two of my brothers went into a shoe-making business so we were a…comfortable family. Your Abuelito’s family was a comparative business; that’s how we met.”
Isabela listened in fascination, trying to pick out the faces of what she could recognize in her Papa and sisters. “Where did the clumsiness come from?”
Abuelita chuckled. “My mother’s side of the family I believe, she was orphaned young so most of this is my father’s side of the family. They were never clumsy but…they had the bee allergy your father inherited. ” gesturing to the older half standing beside the woman with the newborn baby in her arms, smiling at the camera.
Isabela smiled softly, though she could see how the conversation seemed to impact… that this was a meaningful exchange. It was…nice to hear it as well, and Isabela was fascinated at the prospect of her extended family. After living with her maternal side since birth, like most of her siblings, it was so easy to bypass the paternal side. A face in the crowd. Here, it was a part of her family history. “So, do any of them work in the places that I do?”
Abuelita’s smile faded a little, her eyes turning soft. “No. We were…the only one to make it this far to Encanto’s formation.”
The mood in the room vanished quickly following those words. “I’m sorry.”
Abuelita shook her head passively, her hand coming to pat her arm. “Don’t be. I long since accepted the loss of my family. I like to think perhaps a good portion of them survived and fled as well…made it to a new town and settle down. I know by now my parents, Tia and Tios, siblings, and cousins are gone by age if they survived.” She said sadly. Her withered fingers touched over the faces of her parents. “While you have your Abuela’s looks, you actually have a personality similar to my older sister. Ines Portillo.” Her finger touched lightly to the face of one of the teenagers that stood next to who Isabela assumed was Abuelita’s mother.
Isabela frowned lightly, though she turned her attention more to the wedding picture—to Abuelita’s middle which was flat. No baby bump and clearly from her expression fixed forever in the photo; she was unaware. But the notion seemed to settle a chill in her veins. That hand-drawn picture was of that lost baby…
“You…don’t look pregnant…”
“I know.” Abuelita chuckled sadly, “The doctor assisting me said it was…a type of pregnancy that means the mother is unaware until at least half-way or until delivery. I didn’t read into it much more but… I suppose it was a hereditary thing. Now that I think about it, my sister did say our Mother did come back with a few of my siblings when there was no discussion of having another baby. I may have been one of those babies…” she trailed off thoughtfully.
“Hereditary?” Isabela echoed faintly, “Is… is that something we could...have inherited?” Would the fact that her father could have passed down the possibilities somehow given he was male or was it something more direct; from female to female? Did it just skip a generation naturally because her father was born?
Abuelita looked up with a slight frown. “I…suppose.”
Isabela’s breath paused, swallowing thickly but thankfully Abuelita turned the page to a fresh page; where their hand-written announcement of the birth of their son, Agustín Rojas the following year.
  -
“Fran.” Isabela’s voice echoed before the girl looked up at her in alarm at her tone of voice.
“Is something wrong?”
Isabela’s hands gripped the sheets of her skirt, her heart thundering in her chest and she couldn’t believe she was actually going to take Fan up on this offer. She didn’t want to but… this had to be the way to make sure. Isabela had ignored a lot in the last four months, the slight increase to her waistband wasn’t notable and the growing tenderness to her breasts… but it was the fluttery sensation that came about so randomly that was the hardest to ignore.
She didn’t want to entertain the idea.
She had tried to think it was gas and would have tried to happily maintain that notion as she had the last four months.
But Abuelita’s story… the dead baby was far more chilling to ignore. She didn’t like that either; not for herself but… if it was hereditary that this…thing could happen to her—she didn’t want Abuelita to go through that again.
“Is…is it possible I could get that pregnancy exam?” Isabela croaked out, “I-I need to know.”
Fran’s face turned serious, one that was not as common around her but it filled her with relief as Fran nodded and led her away toward the clinic. She’d have to come to a decision on what the tests would say but… she could feel the dread in her bones linger on what it would mean for her.

Pariah AU | Rana Madrigal
Tumblr media
By the age of 15, Rana Madrigal does mostly resemble her mother but shares her father’s eye colour and hair colour. Of coruse, with she’s wearing her glasses, she does look more like Agustin.
She typically doesn’t wear classic Colombian clothes, favouring jeans over skirts and a leather jacket over a ruana. she has combat boots on and a few concealed weapons. like her mother, she does wear her hair up in a bun, just not as high as her mother’s
Rana keeps to her parents colours, favouring her father’s colours, despite never having met him yet. The glasses on the left leg, has a small button to darken the lenses since it’s more than just a metal frame.
Her personality is very unlike her parents, though she is caring for her family, it’s fairly limited to the people she knows, She’s quick to temper but her years of training and work life with her mother and friends has change her outbursts from tantrums to internalising as outbursts did often result to an accidental whammy to people around her with her gift, Wanderer and Pariah the most accidental victims.
She’s a highly trained combatant and willing to kill to protect her family and friends, though to help feel balanced she often visits a church to light a candle. She’s curious about the family her mother left, told when she was 7 of what happened and why they weren’t in their world.
Rana grew up with a hate for her primo, Camilo, reasoning that he had huge impact; to why her mother was pushed to the edge by gossip; that he started the domino effect that leg her mother to leave, miscarry her twin-brother and why her mother’s terrified to return. She does plan to paralyze him often when they do return.
[[ while Rana may be about 14-15 when they do return, only 2-3 years have passed in the Pariah AU; time is fluid between worlds and the watcher AU is more exposed to that so that world runs ahead faster))
