Wait wait wait...
The most recent chapter was called the Two Blessings (or fortunes/lucks?) using the kanji for Fukuzawa and Fukuchi's names....
So we had Double Black. Does this mean Fukuzawa and Fukuchi's partnership is Double Luck? Double Blessing?

How They Move 2
More stuff on the Spirit Monk and how they move and fight, from the POV of more characters. This is fun. Spoilers for Jade Empire incoming.
Black Whirlwind: The Black Whirlwind is well-named, and he takes pride in it. Not just because of his unpredictability on the field, but because his speed and agility matches his strength, despite how people make their assumptions. He’s proud of his skill in battle, honed in his unique style over the years as he’s learned and discarded pieces as needed. He’s made a name for himself both in an arena he left behind years ago, and as a mercenary later, and it’s been rare that he’s even been matched in combat. And then he gets dropped on his ass by this skinny little fighter he throws down against. This “Spirit Monk” is the first one in more years than he can remember who’s actually beaten him in such a handy way. And all Black Whirlwind can do is laugh his ass off about it. Squirmy little thing who slips and rolls and hops and cuts past his guard while he’s trying to keep up with their abrupt changes in style on the fly. At first, he thinks they fight like a snake, dodging around before landing damned painful bites. But then he gets the chance to finally kill Kai Lan after all that damned serpent’s done. (And the Spirit Monk doesn’t say anything beyond agreeing to have him fight for them, but he knows that they know how much it means to him. So if there was any doubt before that he was by their side for as long as this journey of theirs went, it left his mind.) No, the Spirit Monk fights like they’re water. Not that he’s ever actually fought water, he hasn’t gotten quite that drunk. But he imagines that they fight like what water would be like. Moving around and dodging all shields, splashing back into combat when they actually get hit, or becoming a massive wave that destroyed all in their path. He’s heard some of the others mutter about some kind of “flaw” in their fighting style that seems to be present, but that they can never find. Well, that part’s obvious. The flaw’s there until it isn’t, because they’ll just water their way into a different style.
Sky: He feels slight guilt about using them as a distraction, but that is quickly overshadowed by his awe in seeing them move. They’re grace incarnate, smoothly dropping Gao’s thugs as if they were born to do it. They introduce themself as a Spirit Monk, and while he doesn’t know much about those, he knows that this person is one he doesn’t want to get on the bad side of, but also one he could watch for the rest of his life. It’s part of the reason he splits up from them after they get the door open. Despite the sense to their offer, he needs to split up, both because he’s not entirely sure he trusts them, and because he needs to step back. He hasn’t felt this kind of overwhelming emotion on meeting someone since he first laid eyes on his newborn daughter, and the Spirit Monk is drawing out feelings far more romantic in nature than paternal. Hopefully this is just his initial awe of them. (That hope is quickly dashed when he meets up with them again) And not only are they effortlessly graceful in their movements in ways that nearly get him brained in the head because he loses focus more often than he should be in fights, they’re also kind. Whether it be with strangers suffering, ghosts who are far more aggressive than he thought possible, or with their own little band of stragglers. Every gentle movement and soft word towards Wild Flower, and Sky loves the Spirit Monk more and more. Every movement they make is alive, and they make everyone around them more alive, just by how they move. Even their enemies seem to come alive, fighting harder and better, to try and prove their dominance against the Spirit Monk. They always fail, of course. Combat was their stage, their arena, their area not merely of expertise, but of mastery. How could anyone less than another master even hope to match them?

WIP Wednesday Game
It’s WIP Wednesday, time for a little accountability, sharing your work, and getting a kick in the pants.
Here’s how it works:
In a reblog of this post (so people can find you in the notes) or new thread (w/ rules attached) if you want to play on your own, post up to five (5) filenames of your WIPs; not titles, file names.
Post a snippet from one of them. Snippet must be words you wrote in the last 7 days. We’re posting progress here. If you haven’t made any, go make some and come back to play!
After you’ve posted, people can send you an ask with one of your file names. You must then write 3 sentences in that file. If the filename is one you can't share from (for example, an event or gift fic), write 3 sentences on it anyway, and then 3 more on another to share.
That’s it! You can invite others to join in, or just post. I’ll be searching the reblogs to find people to send asks to!
If you’re reading this, you’re invited!
If you see someone posting a WIP Wednesday Game snippet, send them an ask! Make them write.

The next day someone was sent to go pick up Dai Yu’s laundry, and as soon as they came back the Wani sailed out of Yu Dao.
It had taken exactly one night with half the crew away on shore for everyone to know about her fight with Zuko. Kairo thought the whole thing was hilarious. He was still in his civvies from last night, and faintly stank like alcohol but looked better rested than she felt. “You have no idea how happy it makes me. Agni what I wouldn’t give to have been on deck to hear it myself.”
“You could have told me what it meant,” She huffed. Uncle had taken her aside that morning and gently explained that the word she’d so loudly called Zuko, in front of half the crew, didn’t mean exactly what she thought. Well it did, but also meant…something else. She hid her face in her hands when he said ‘female genitalia’ and kept hiding as he tried to ask about who’d said that to her. She’d eventually convinced him that no one in particular said that to her, and she’d just overheard it.
“You didn’t ask.” He took a bite of her food. “So, you really don’t have your own money?”
They were sitting in a random cargo bay, by his suggestion. Cloudy skies, a light drizzle and chilling winds from the north made it too cold to eat outside, despite the fact that they were already firmly in the beginning of summer.
“No.”
“Huh…well, did’ya have fun?” He said in a tone mocking the way a relative might ask about a child's day out.
Dai Yu spent a lot of time last night thinking about whether her criminal excursion had actually been worth it. She sank her teeth into a spa cake, it was a little stale on the outside at this point, but still moist and sweet in the middle. “Yeah.”
“Hah, good.”
The door of the cargo bay swung open and Daisuke stepped in followed by Lee, another seventeen year old. Daisuke stopped when he spotted them, mumbled something like an apology and started to turn back towards the door.
“What, you too good to eat with us?” Kairo called.
Daisuke glanced at her, and then to Lee. Lee was quite a bit taller than either Kairo or Daisuke, and had a square jaw and cheekbones that reminded her of the man on the covers of a book series cousin Mari liked. (She liked them so much in fact that she kept them hidden in the back of her wardrobe and made Dai Yu pinky swear not to tell Uncle Jaeyu).
Lee shrugged. “If Kairo hasn’t managed to get thrown overboard yet, we should be fine.”
“I don’t think it’s a coincidence that he’s permanently on the nightshift now,” Daisuke responded.
“Maybe I like the night shift, ever think of that, asshole?” Kairo had been on night shift ever since the trip to the western air temple, instead of the usual week on week off schedule. So after they ate breakfast together Dai Yu wouldn’t see him again unless they ran into each other by chance before she went to bed. She hadn’t given it much thought until now, assuming Lieutenant Jee put him there because he was the least likely to start fights with other people that way.
Lee seemed to have made up his mind, crossing the room to sit across from Kairo on Dai Yu’s right. He gave her a friendly smile.  “I’m Lee, by the way.”
“I know,” She said.
He smiled wider. She felt her face heat slightly and turned her attention back to her cake.
Daisuke seemed to give in and followed his friend, sitting across from her in between Kairo and Lee. “Do you also like being dragged into the mountains to sort through air nomad junk after not sleeping all night?”
Dai Yu examined Daisuke. This was the first time she’d been able to see him this close without him trying his best to leave. He reminded her a lot of her mother. Granted, before she left home most fire nationals did, with their black hair and yellow eyes. But something about the specific combination of Daisuke's features: round jawline, dark lashes, slightly upturned eyes. He really looked like mom.
She realized she’d been looking for too long when he glanced nervously back at her. “Sorry, I’m staring and that's rude. You just kind of remind me of someone.”
“Uh, yeah?”
“Mmhmm.” She didn’t want to say that he reminded her of a woman, even a pretty one. Boys hate that.

I'm back! I apologize for the long absence. 2020 didn't go very well for me due to several factors. And 2021 was busy with work, family things, and university. And honestly, I didn't want anything to ruin this series!
BUT I'M BACK!!!
I reread the first 3 books to prepare for Empire of Ivory. I had a great time.
I saw so many more foreshadowing points I missed or funny in jokes that make more sense in after a second read. I also did even more wailing and swearing and cursing and crying this time around since I k ew what was going to happen.
I hate Rankin's guts. I feel so bad for Levitas and I'm creating my own head cannon where he lives and chooses a new Captain. If I ever meet Rankin again, it will be too soon. I hate his guts and I pray he never gets another dragon.
I grinned at each victory for our crew!
I hissed at Yongxing when he reappeared in the series.
Looking back at Temeraire getting sick has cemented in my mind that it's a Plague. I'm more certain after experiencing one ourselves. (Looking back over the last 2 years). I predict it came over with the Native American Dragon.
China was an adventure in not reaching through the pages and strangling Yongxing. I feel bad for Lein as she lost the only person who cared for her but she had no right to threaten everyone/everything Temeraire (and we) loves.
Also, I banged my head at Laurence and Tharkay and their dynamics. How do I get more, wake up you two!!! I love Tharkay even more but boy does he have flair for the dramatic.
Laurence is slowly realizing how bad dragons are treated in Britain.
Don't think I've forgotten about Digby, the baby dragonet, or anything else happened in the Prussian War. I've got so many emotions about it.
I still love the Grand escape at the end of Black Powder War.
I have a few prediction updates after my reread:
1) There is a Plague effecting the British Dragons. Since they sent Temeraire and Crew to get the eggs and then never showed up for as promised to the Prussians.
2) I've scrapped the idea of any eggs coming from the Ferals.
3) I think the Ferals will become part of the Aerial Corp for at least a part of the future books.
4) Now that Prussia is conquered, Napoleon is going to come after Britian.
I still stand by my other predictions.

Turning Red
— He's always so serious that they can't help but wonder what kind of emotions he's hiding underneath. Good thing you're around.
— Dan Heng, Gepard, Blade + Jing Yuan
Slight spoilers for Xianzhou and Kafka's companion quest.
[Masterlist]
I've fallen into the Honkai train, but here we are. Also, I know Jing Yuan doesn't fit this prompt but I like him so who cares.
Tumblr media
Dan Heng
"Dan Heng! We need one more person to play Celestial Jade!" March hollars down the hallway only to receive no response. It makes her pout, biting the inside of her cheek as she taps her foot restless against the floor, "If you don't come soon then I'll be the one in trouble you know!"
Again no response...
She's checked his room and the archives, and yet no sign of the man. The Express is only so big so surely he didn't wander off somewhere outside right? Maybe you know where he is? Dan Heng seems to talk to you more than he does with her, so maybe he gave you a heads-up that he was going somewhere? It's not a solid plan, but it's a plan nonetheless so she marches her way to your room.
"Hey, have you seen Dan Heng anywh-" March starts as she opens your door only to stop mid-sentence since the eyes of the very man she was looking for are staring right back at her. "Ah. Oops."
Her eyes slowly trail down from his and ah- she understands why he was missing. You're curled up around him, arms haphazardly laid across his waist while your head is cushioned by his chest. Dan Heng doesn't seem to find your sleeping position bothersome, if anything it looks like he's trying to slowly nudge you closer without waking you up. One hand is on his phone, probably typing away on the databank, while the other is curled around your waist. His chin rests on top of yours contentedly as his white and turquoise coat is used as a mock blanket, leaving him in the black turtle neck.
Dan Heng looks like he's about to say something but you shift and mumble something in your sleep and they both go still. Scared that they may have accidentally woken you up and the Express doesn't have enough space for March to run and hide from Dan Heng but thankfully, you seem to settle down and return to your dreams. Thus, March and Dan Heng are locked in a staring contest before she slowly reaches into her back pocket without breaking eye contact.
"Don't you dare," Dan Heng whispers as loud as he dares, although his pink cheeks don't do anything to make him look intimidating.
"Oh, I think I dare," she grins too widely as she raises her camera, making sure it's on silent before she starts to bombard her gallery with a pink Dan Heng because he can't stop her unless he gets up. The most he can do is turn his face away but it shows the world his red ears. Once she's satisfied, she's sticking her tongue out and darts out of the room. She expects that two things will happen. Dan Heng will hunt her down and make her delete the pictures, but not before she sends them all to him. As soon as the door closes and March walks down at the end of the hallway she let her mini explosion commence because Geez! That was so cute! Who knew Dan Heng could be so adorable! Why can't she have that with someone special, this isn't fair!!
Gepard
Gepard Landau. The prestigious young captain of the Silvermane Guards who belongs to the noble Landau family. A personality of righteousness, a good family background, and on top of that he sure has a pretty face. The absolute perfect man.
What a boring guy.
That's the only thought that runs through Sampo's mind as he observes the blond hair man talking to his subordinate from a distance. The two of you are supposed to be on break - he knows this because it makes the other Silvermane Guards more relaxed so it's easier for him to run around - and yet Gepard has his back straight and looks as if he's never heard of what a day-off is. What a shame that those pretty blues only have eyes for reports.
"This part here has been causing some issues for our intelligence team," he hears the subordinate say and Sampo's eyes shift to you. He's heard of you before although not as much as Gepard. A simple errand girl who frequently moves between the Silvermane Guards and the Neverwinter Workshop to deliver messages and supplies. Nothing incredibly remarkable but you're a kind person who keeps to themselves. Sampo thinks you and him could get along if you didn't hang around Gepard so often.
"Let me see..." Gepard mumbles and leans down closer to read the fine print before you turn your head to the side and plant a small kiss on his cheek. Despite the cute gesture, Gepard doesn't change or make any expression. He simply steps back into a polite distance, a hand coming up to loosen his collar as he clears his throat, before reprimanding you on workplace-appropriate jokes. You don't seem to take offense to his lack of response, just adorably hiding your smile behind your paper before waving goodbye to the Captain. Meanwhile, Sampo is coughing violently behind his fist because what the hell was that? So much build-up only for a lackluster ending? As a man of the dramatics, it's too much for him.
"Seriously, there's nothing fun about this guy," Sampo sighs, shrugging his shoulders as if to console himself. He's about to turn and leave but the rushed clinking of armor has him looking back at the Captain.
"Seriously..." Gepard mutters before hiding his face behind his hand. Even from this distance, Sampo can see how red the Captain's ears have gotten just from a simple cheek kiss.
Blade
Kafka thinks you're cute. Really cute.
Everyone in the Stellaron Hunters hides their true emotions behind multiple masks and it's refreshing to meet someone who wears their heart on their sleeve. Although it could also be because you're incredibly bad at hiding your feelings. Even if Kafka wasn't as skilled as she is with reading people, you do a piss poor job. Still, it's fun for her and that's the important part.
"Oh? Back so soon?" Kafka greets you as you step out of the alleyway. Even if your face isn't plastered across the Xianzhou like Kafka's and Blades, it wouldn't look good to be seen conversing with them. Plus you rather like being able to walk in broad daylight without the fear of the Cloud Knights chasing you down to slap some cuffs on you.
"Yes ma'am. We can depart when you're ready," you salute and she can't help but laugh at your cute mannerism. It makes you falter the slightest bit but you hold your pose.
"Good. Good. It must have been hard to pilot a ship so close to the Xianzhou without being detected. Especially given," she makes a gesture at Blade, "recent events."
You only nod at her hidden meaning before she's suddenly stepping into your personal space. You can only make a small noise before her arm is wrapped around your waist pulling you closer to her, and you pointedly ignore how her chest is pressed against yours, and her other hand raises your chin until your lips brush against hers. With her so close, she can see the pink in your cheeks growing and how tense your body is against hers. Your eyes dart from her down to her lip before catching yourself and instead looking behind her. It's cute.
"Would you like a reward?" she whispers next to your ear.
"Don't tease so much."
"Oh," Kafka blinks twice, turning her head to her companion as she lets go of your chin so she can press her fingertips against her mouth like one of those posh ladies when they find out about the latest gossip, "how out of character Bladie."
He doesn't dignify her with a response, just closes his eyes and goes back into his meditation. His face fell into that perfect stone that she could have imagined that he spoke. But those piercing eyes carving their way into her bones are unmistakable that even if they are closed, she still feels watched. But she relents and drops her arms around you before sending you off back to the ship. They'll join you soon.
"That's interesting," Kafka muses, she rolls her fingers as thin magenta strings appear before being flicked away with her wrist. Blade shouldn't be able to register anything but herself and yet, he seemed to notice you.
Jing Yuan
Yanqing has the sneaking suspicion that his General is sneaking off to slack off again. While he knows Jing Yuan is incredibly busy and he tends to do things discreetly, this getting far too strange. The General always has a complacent smile, but recently, it's been a tiny bit more genuine every time he waltzs in. For someone so tall, at least in Yanqing's opinion, he's able to slip past everyone and it's impossible to get in contact with him until he suddenly appears hours later. Yanqing would know, he's blasted the General's phone only to receive a cute emote and a "Surely my lieutenant is more than suitable for this, no?". Does it make Yanqing swell with so much pride that he forgets about Jing Yuan slacking off, maybe, but that's beside the point.
"General, what exactly are you doing in your... "off time"," Yanqing words slowly, unsure of what he was asking is considered a pry into Jing Yuan's personal life and if he will get upset with him.
"You're making it sound as if I'm doing something depraved during this "off time"," Jing Yuan chuckles at how fast Yanqing turns pink at his implications. Yanqing's hands quickly come up in a placating nature as he shakes his head so hard that his ponytail smacks against the wall.
"N-Not at all General! I was just curious- but you don't need to answer if it's something important!" Yanqing struggles through his words but luckily, Jing Yuan doesn't seem to take offense. If anything, he finds it amusing as he rubs Yanqing's head like an overactive puppy. It makes Yanqing huff and shoos away the offending hand before crossing his arms, expectantly waiting for an answer.
"It's not anything that needs to be kept as a secret. I'm simply taking a walk around Xianzhou to distress. You should take some time to do so as well, training every single day without a break will only lead to weary bones and stiff muscles," Jing Yuan advises which Yanqing nods carefully along to. Although Yanqing's eyes drift from the General's eyes to mouth, he seems more...softer around the edges? Even though he's the only one here, it looks like Jing Yuan is speaking to someone else through him.
"Are you sure you're not doing something indecent?" Yanqing deadpans to which the General laughs. He reaches over to ruffle his disciple's hair again before crossing them behind his back and walking ahead. Seriously, Yanqing thinks as he fixes his hair back into place, he can never get a good read on his General.
