Ceratopsians Group Poster.
With a human (and rat) to scale. A very very rough scale by the way. Just kinda eyeballing it, but I’ve always liked seeing how dinosaurs compare to each other and an average human. So there it is.

Dromaeosaurus/Chasmosaurus, Ely Kish, 1974–75
One must be a seeker at the end of the world. Far from any green, Dromaeosaurus hunts for scraps of goodness, a last morsel of meat, a damp swallow of marrow, a tender leaf of skin. The rest of the desert has abandoned life, forgotten about it, but Dromaeosaurus has not. It appreciates the Chasmosaurus more than the rest of the world, sees the value in a withered mummy. There are treasures in the dust.

I want to know more
At the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, we have a Chasmosaurus skeleton.
And it has pretty awesome bone pathology. It's got arthritis in its thumbs, damage to its lower back from a crushing injury, and it's left eye-horn is very gnarly.
But trying to find more information on a specific specimen of something not called Tyrannosaurus is extremely difficult for a layman. Anyone got any leads on what the specimen is even called? I want to learn more about its bone pathology, darn it!

If it hasn't been done yet, perhaps something on Chasmosaurus?
Ooh good choice!
How about a historical photo this time around?

Here's George F. Sternberg (the same man who discovered a Xiphactinus audax with a recently eaten Gillicus arcuatus in its stomach!) preparing the skull of a Chasmosaurus belli aaall the way back 1914.

Dinofact #99
The function of the frill and horns of Chasmosaurus is still under consideration. The frill is had such large hollow portions that it could not have offered much protection, and the horns were relatively short, which may not have been best for defense either. Some suggest that the frill was used mainly to appear more intimidating, or for thermoregulation, while it is also possible that it was used in a mating display. The issue with the latter, however, is that it is difficult to prove sexual dimorphism in the animal.

OVER A YEAR AGO I said “hopefully I’ll post something soon!” So like…it’s about damn time. Here’s a couple of drawings from the notes app!
It’s two anthro dinosaur OCs: Cole the chasmosaurus and Klau the troodontid! I am experimenting with fun colors using these guys (NOTE: that’s not blood on Klau’s neck…he just has red markings in some places)
