The Hidden Forces: How Subconscious Beliefs Influence Behaviour
Have you ever wondered why we do the things we do? Well, it turns out that our actions are influenced by two parts of our mind: one we’re aware of (conscious) and another that works in the background (subconscious). Our conscious thoughts and choices are important, but there’s also a hidden part of our mind, the subconscious, that has a big say in how we act. It’s like our secret superpower! This…

The Power of Perception
How Our Minds Shape Our Reality
Perception is a fascinating aspect of human existence. It is the lens through which we view the world, shaping our reality and influencing our thoughts, emotions, and actions. Our perceptions are not simply passive observations of the external world; they actively construct our understanding of reality. Understanding the power of perception can lead to a greater appreciation for the complexity of human experience and can help us navigate the challenges of life with a more open and curious mindset.
Perception as a Filter
Our perceptions act as a filter through which we interpret and make sense of the overwhelming amount of information bombarding our senses at any given moment. Every sight, sound, taste, smell, and touch is subjected to our perceptual filter, determining what we pay attention to and how we interpret it. This filtering process is influenced by a multitude of factors, including our past experiences, cultural background, beliefs, and values.
For example, imagine walking into a crowded room full of strangers. Your perception will immediately come into play, determining who you notice, how you interpret their body language, and whether you feel comfortable or anxious in the environment. Two people can have entirely different experiences in the same situation based on their unique perceptual filters.
The Role of Beliefs and Expectations
Beliefs and expectations play a significant role in shaping our perceptions. Our minds are wired to seek confirmation of what we already believe to be true, and we often make sense of new information by fitting it into our existing belief systems. This tendency can be both beneficial and limiting. While it helps us make sense of the world quickly, it can also blind us to alternative perspectives and new possibilities.
For instance, imagine two individuals attending a job interview. One person firmly believes they are qualified and deserving of the position, while the other feels insecure and doubts their abilities. These different beliefs will influence how they perceive the questions asked, the interviewer's body language, and their overall experience of the interview. The person with a positive belief system may feel more confident and perform better, while the person with self-doubt may struggle and perceive the experience as negative.
The Influence of Emotions
Emotions also have a profound impact on our perceptions. When we experience strong emotions, they can color our view of reality and distort our judgments. For example, when we are angry, we may interpret neutral comments as insults, and when we are anxious, we may perceive harmless situations as threatening.
On the other hand, positive emotions can broaden our perception and enhance our ability to see possibilities and opportunities. When we experience joy or gratitude, our perceptual filters expand, allowing us to notice and appreciate the beauty around us. This positive outlook can lead to a more optimistic and resilient mindset.
The Power of Shifting Perspectives
Recognizing the power of perception offers us an opportunity for personal growth and transformation. By becoming aware of our own perceptual filters and biases, we can challenge them and open ourselves up to new ways of seeing the world. This process requires curiosity, self-reflection, and a willingness to embrace discomfort.
One effective way to shift our perspective is through mindfulness practices. Mindfulness helps us become more aware of our thoughts, emotions, and sensations, allowing us to observe our perceptual filters in action. Through this observation, we can begin to question our assumptions and consider alternative interpretations of our experiences.
Engaging in dialogue with others who hold different perspectives is another powerful tool for expanding our perception. By actively listening and empathizing with others, we can gain insights into their worldview and challenge our own preconceived notions. This process fosters greater understanding, empathy, and tolerance.
Embracing a Fluid Reality
Perception is a dynamic and ever-changing process. Our reality is not fixed; it is continuously shaped by our perceptions, which in turn influence our thoughts, emotions, and actions. Embracing the fluidity of perception allows us to approach life with a sense of curiosity and wonder, rather than rigidly holding onto fixed beliefs.
By cultivating awareness of our perceptual filters, challenging our biases, and seeking out diverse perspectives, we can expand our understanding of the world and foster personal growth. The power of perception lies in its ability to shape our reality, and by harnessing this power, we can create a more compassionate, inclusive, and fulfilling existence.

Bruce might be the “weakest” human member of the League, but if he wanted to? he knows exactly what to say to make Superman snap, and that’s more powerful than anything

once again thinking about the worldbuilding in the riordanverse of "names are power" / "belief is power."
The Tri were only able to become immortal through convincing enough people to worship them that it became true. Monsters and immortals only exist through continued belief, and if enough people believe that they're dead or gone then it becomes true, like Pan. Their varied forms exist and manifest as they're believed in and called upon. Names call attention and epithets summon aspects. They're acknowledgement. Belief. Putting a name to a concept creates it as an individual.
And that's so fascinating when you start applying it to demigods. How much of their abilities are based on belief in themselves, in expectations of each other, in their parents' expectations of them? We've seen mortal figures who became immortal in some form or another because they were remembered. Even the lares - ancestral house gods, who persist because they're remembered. They have a legacy.
At what point does a demigod achieve that status? Rumors and whispers about them so persistent that they slowly become true. "I heard that Jason Grace is the son of two gods, does that make him a god?" "I heard Percy Jackson defeated a titan single-handedly. That he can create hurricanes without breaking a sweat. That he can control blood." After awhile, after enough rumors, does it become impossible to tell where they end and the legends begin? Isn't that what being a demigod is; half-legend?

Putting the current angst aside for a second, I find it telling how the two major critiques to the game are that the characters are too nice to MC and that the ROs are too feminine (because they are nice. Because men aren't nice and don't say "dear" or "darling")
... I don't know

I’ve tried like 500 times to articulate my thoughts about nonwhite superman and how much that adds to his childhood of loneliness and every time I hit a stumbling block because the topic makes me too insane to think but please hold my hand and imagine this little boy trying to grow up in rural Kansas and being the only person he’s ever known who looks like he does. This little boy who never has a proper answer when people ask where he’s really from, and even once he knows the truth of himself he can never safely share it. Please imagine him fighting every single day to belong and never being able to no matter how hard he tries because people will always find something questionable in the very way he looks. A lot of the superman mythos is dependant on Clark’s ability to assimilate but when you take that away what is left?? He’s just a kid fighting so hard for a belonging he’ll never have a hope in hell of being handed. Oh it hurts my heart

Burke discerned two radically distinct responses to beauty in general, and to natural beauty in particular: one originating in love, the other in fear. When we are attracted by the harmony, order and serenity of nature, so as to feel at home in it and confirmed by it, then we speak of its beauty; when, however, as on some wind-blown mountain crag, we experience the vastness, the power, the threatening majesty of the natural world, and feel our own littleness in the face of it, then we should speak of the sublime. Both these responses are elevating; both lift us out of the ordinary utilitarian thoughts that dominate our practical lives.

waking up in a cabin deep in a remote pine forest as the sun is going down. or coming up? you can't tell yet. suppose that's less important when you remember this world has no pine forests, or a sun to rise and set.
instead, this world has no sky at all. instead, this world has stale air and monsters. instead, this world has a man you've only heard rumors of. suppose the rumors are true, and that man has a cabin. and that cabin doesn't smell quite right.
but when has anything ever smelled right down here

I love that after treating Colin as less than an equal and trying to intimidate him prior to their parting of ways, Deli is clearly the one more affected by meeting again and seeing how Colin has comfortably moved on and found comradeship (or at least allyship) with Raphaniel. Like Colin was a little salty about the skald comments, but in that wonderfully understated "i care just enough to say something because you're wrong" way, a minor injury compared to how Deli is "thrown" by seeing Colin and Raphaniel fighting together

How Tango intended the Dungeon Lackey would be used: I’ll help players survive the dungeon! They’ll have more successful runs! Maybe they will try for better artifacts or learn new secrets of the dungeon!
How Dungeon Lackey is actually used: Artifacts? Who needs those, these shenanigans are comedy GOLD

Tbh the way fandom has the view of Gojo as either “hes not that powerful actually” or “he sees everything can do everything including travelling between dimensions” is kinda Gege’s fault? Its funny how jjk provides a lot of details into the nature of the cursed energy but the power level still feels a bit icky. The way Gojo’s powers are explained they are essentially applied mathematics and physics that are, usually, purely theoretical. I fucking hate quantum mechanics but unfortunately for everyone invovlved i am actively studying them so
So like technically he should be able to travel dimensions or into space or into the marianna trench and come out unscathed. The way teleportation works can be compared to the way we now know that black holes dont destroy information, but compress it. Considering the fact that blue and red work on the sheer fact that he creates an empty space and the universe rushes to fill it(which is genuinely a straight up impossible thing to do btw) and vice versa, he does technically have the strenght of a god. We dont even have a full knowledge of how the Six Eyes work, like okay they work thanks to seeing cursed energy. How the fuck then is he reading shit or typing on the phone with the blindfold on? That implies he sees perfectly well everything even if it doesnt have curse energy. Like when you go from his abilities he does seem like he can travel dimensions and whatever else. As fun as the Achilles and tortoise thing is, the fact that he can make it a reality effectively means that there is a shit ton of other things he should be able to do thanks to physics but i guess he needs a weakness (aside from being gay)
Which is FAIR overpowered characters aren’t good for a shonen narrative esp when they are on the side of the protagonist, it just feels sometimes like Gege gave him power over literal physics while forgetting that physics is like the thing that governs all. Genuenly. If you have the power to literally create an imaginary mass you are officially above all of the possible limits of the universe
