act 3 scene 1 mercutio and benvolio is the most wolfstar conversation ever.
Benvolio: I pray thee, good Mercutio, let's retire. The day is hot, the Capulet's abroad. And if we meet we shall not scape a brawl, for now, these hot days, is the mad blood stirring.
Mercutio: Thou art like one of those fellows that, when he enters the confines of a tavern, claps me his sword upon the table and says, 'God send me no need of thee!'; and by the operation of the second cup draws him on the drawer, which indeed there is no need.
Benvolio: Am I like such a fellow?
Mercutio: Come, Come, thou art as hot a jack in thy mood as any in Italy; and as soon moved to be moody, and as soon moody to be moved.
Benvolio: And what to?
Mercutio: Nay, an there was two such, we should have none shortly, for one would kill the other. Thou! Why, thou wilt quarrel with a man that hath a hair more or a hair less in his beard than thou hast. Thou wilt quarrel with a man for cracking nuts, having no other reason but because thou hast hazel eyes. What eye but such a an eye would spy out such a quarrel? Thy head is as full of quarrels as an egg is full of meat, and yet thy head hath been beaten as addle as an egg for quarreling. Thou hast quarrelled with a man for coughing in the street, because he hath wakened thy dog that hath lain asleep in the sun. Didst thou not fall out with a tailor for wearing his new doublet before Easter? With another for tying his new shoes with old ribbon? And yet thou wilt tutor me for quarreling!
Benvolio: An I were so apt to quarrel as thou art, any man should buy the fee- simple of my life for an hour and a quarter.
Mercutio: The fee simple! O' simple!

i find it so cute that you and five have formed an alliance and discuss cock sizes of wolfstar like ten inches is even a common thing. why are you insistent on making sirius black so small in every way and remus so big. it’s unrealistic the idiot got that much right
Scooch in for me Anon we need a chat.
Firstly, you say all that with full bass and round it off by calling someone else an idiot. You brought that point to a home run my guy.
Secondly, Five and I have had several conversations relating to many a thing fandom related and not, as one who is capable of forming friendships (I know this might be difficult for you) often does, and yes one of those topics has been the size of Remus J. Lupin’s horse 🐓. Now, the point of you saying I, or we, are insistent on making Sirius’ everything smaller is bizarre to me as someone (you) with adequate enough reading skills to understand the ask of Five’s you’ve garnered this information from, I’m going to make the assumption you therefore have enough to read/view everything else on our pages. One of these things is that Five’s Sirius is exceptionally tiny in comparison to their Remus— their, Remus, their Sirius, and their work is of course going to reflect that. As a supporter of a good size difference, I’ve gobbled that up since the word go and supported Five’s vision through drooling over their story and making subsequent art to reflect this very representation of Wolfstar.
What I haven’t done, is expressed any specific sizing that I myself visualise my default Wolfstar to be, only spitballed a range of heights (I got you, these were: Sirius being anywhere between 5’7 and 5’11 and Remus, 6’2 to 6’5). To save you the question, I’d say my default headcanon is Sirius as 5’10 and Remus at a whopping, staggering, unrealistic monstrosity of 6’4. Forgive me for enjoying a short(er) but very much average Sirius next to a tall Remus.
Keeping in line with your hot poker tone, I’ll agree with you on one thing and that is, ten inches worth of 🐓 is very rare but I’ll let you in on a secret as to how I personally, came to that figure that inspired Five’s vision and my own separate one outside of her gorgeous story— the man I’m dating. Might shock you to know real men exist outside the world of fanfiction, with big hands and obnoxious heights (6’7) and huge extremities between their legs (10”). Double figures can exist outside of your IQ.
Also, even if anyone does enjoy absorbing a huge Remus and an exceptionally tiny Sirius as a constant theme in their experience here, who the fuck are you to shame them for it. Fiction, is what you’re getting a twist over. Fiction. Go run off into the corner of the fandom where what you enjoy does exist and take a breath because it seems you stumbled across an adult conversation here, and it’s got you feeling all out of sorts.

Parties
Pairing: Sirius Black + reader
Word count: 1296 (I think I'm really loving these short and fluffy one shots)
Summary: You and Sirius fool around (not sexually) at a pureblood party
Warnings: light and funny hits and smacks, and nothing else I believe but lmk if you notice anything I didn't
Hey! If you think this didn't completely suck, feel free to check out my masterlist.
Tumblr media
"On a scale of one to ten, how likely is it that one of the dads is going to get drunk and go off the hook?"
"Is there a number above ten that I can use?"
"No."
"Then ten, like you even have to ask." I reply with a grin at the absurd question. Every time there's a party one of the dads get drunk and off the hook, last time it was Avery Sr. His wife had to pull him off the table. I ask, "The question isn't if, it's who."
"Avery." Sirius replies looking at the man, smiling, no doubt picturing his red face wife trying to pull him down the table where he's swinging his tie on. I scoff, "Two times in a row? No way. I think Mrs. Avery has him drinking apple juice tonight."
"Well then who do you think it is?" Sirius asks, and I hum. I look around the room, looking for the older men. Mulciber has been drinking a lot tonight, but he's talking to Malfoy which means business so no way it's him. Then I hit the jackpot. I grin and say, "Your father."
"My father? No way, he's never gone crazy ever." Sirius scoffs and leans back in his chair. I lean closer to his side and start to explain as I fix my eyes to Mr. Black. I explain, "He's gone flushed, and he's not talking anymore which means that he knows that he's going to slur on his words, and he's already taken off his jacket."
"I think you're an idiot and that it's going to be Nott." Sirius says, and I punch him in the arm for calling me and idiot, then shake my head. I tut, "I don't think so-" I say in a sing-songy voice, then continue, "He holds his alcohol well."
"No, he doesn't. A few years ago, he was made a mess." Sirius says, but I still don't agree. I grab my drink from the table, and take a tiny sip before saying, "That was because he had signed the divorce papers from his first wife that morning, other wise he never would have drank so much."
"I still think he's a better guess than my father." Sirius says, rolling his eyes. He hates talking about his father, and he is absolutely right, he's a horrible man. I fold my arms and then suggest, "Alright, what do you want to bet on- and not money, merlin knows we both have enough of that already."
Sirius hums in thought, as he thinks of ideas. One of the perks of being in a pureblood family is the insane amount of money carried from one generation to another, one of the faults, the tedious parties, Sirius makes them better though. He clicks his fingers and I can almost see a light bulb go off in his head. He starts, "A kiss-"
"I already give you those-"
"And a date where I control everything." Sirius grins, and I groan, and cover my face with my hands. I groan, "But you're going to pick a shit place, like madam puddifoot's or something other absurd café."
"If you're scared that you'll lose, I can change it." Sirius taunts, and I look back at Mr. Black and he's already loosening his tie. I grin then hold out my hand to him. I say, "You're on."
Sirius takes my hand, shakes it one time with a firm grip, then hauls me close to him to give me a kiss on the cheek. I yelp, and then put my hand on his thigh to stabilize me enough to go back to sitting properly in my seat. I smack his thigh. Merlin knows what my mother would've done if she saw that.
"And if I win, I want full control over your hair for a month." I say, and watch that smirk of his fade away instantly. He grabs his hair, desperately and shakes his head. He says, "No way, that's same value as one date."
"If you're scared that you'll lose, I can change it." I say in a deeper voice, imitating him and saying his exact words. He gives me a glare, but folds his arms and pouts in his seat. I chuckle at his reaction.
The music is quiet, it's only the voices of chatter that really fill up the room. I look all around the room and notice that Regulus is with one of his friends chatting about something, I recognize the friend as Evan Rosier. Sirius taps my shoulder to interrupt my train of thought.
"Wanna get out of here?" He asks, and he already knows my answer because I soon as I say yes, he's already got my hand in his hand. He stands up, and we look around each of us making sure that none of our family members can see us.
Sirius leads me out of the room and into a corridor. This is Nott Sr.'s house, we knew only bits of it. We get out of the room, and Sirius presses me against on of the walls. He kisses me feverishly and I return it with a smile. His hands caress my waist and they go up and down and up and down, driving me insane.
"so this is why you wanted to get out." I tease, and he goes back to kissing me in seconds. I can't say I'm really complaining though. He breaths out in between kisses, "Can't blame me for wanting to spend time with you."
We part for some much needed air and Sirius looks around. He sees the closest door and he goes towards it, pulling me with him. He says, "Now, what could this be? A bedroom maybe?"
He opens the door and we're meet with the clatter of pots and pains and tiny house elves moving around everywhere, trying to get dinner ready. Sirius sighs in disappointment, and he turns to leave, but I break free of his grip when I see..."Scones!"
I trail towards them and grab a few off of one of the plates that the house elves were carrying. I shoved one in my mouth, and it tasted good. Sirius grabbed one from my hands and started eating it himself. I frowned at him and his reply was poking a tongue out at me.
I finish my scone and maybe two more, then I go to sit on one of the chairs. Sirius pouts when he notices there's no chairs. He grabs me, and lifts me up. I start screaming, "Sirius Orion Black, you better put me down right now. You babbling, bumbling, baboon-"
"You're the only good thing my parents have ever done for me, and quite possibly the best thing that has ever happened to me." Sirius says in one breath to shut me up. He always does this, randomly he just spills out bursts of emotion. He feels them at random times, but Sirius has never been good at expressing emotions, so I appreciate them when they come.
He sits down and puts me on his lap. I smile at his words and lean in to press a soft kiss to his lips. Sirius parts abruptly, "Did you just call me a baboon?"
"Oh no, we need some remedies, quickly!" One of the house elves, enter quickly into the room, and the rest of them bustle quickly trying to find a remedy for whomever just got severely drunk out there. Another house elf shouts, "Who was it this time?"
"Mr. Black."
"Yes!" I shout in triumph and get off of Sirius' lap to preform a victory dance. I clap and dance around, and I point at him and grin, "Get ready to have your hair green!"
"No!"
an: maybe I am starting this marauders era for me, I'm really enjoying it too. I think I should keep writing about them for a while + Reggie of course

umm what about!!! sirius or james comforting you when you get a haircut and don’t really like it at first. because I always hate fresh haircuts before I get used to it (especially when the hairdresser styles it weird lolzies)
haircut
summary — you hate your new haircut but sirius makes you feel better.
content — sirius black x fem!reader
note — this is unedited and so so i’m sorry baby
You're supposed to meet Sirius at the cafe around the corner. You really don't want to. You want to go home, find a hat maybe, maybe wash your hair for three hours until it magically all grows back.
You don't want to see your boyfriend awkwardly try to tell you your new haircut looks good, because you really hate it. It's way too short and weirdly cut around your ears. You think it might be uneven around your neck but you can't see it properly.
You reach the cafe and tug the hair down around your ears cruelly, and don't even realise you're crying. Tiny tears splash down your cheeks and curve into your mouth. You wipe them with the back of your hand and sniffle, steeling yourself before you see Sirius.
You find him, at a table in the corner with his pretty legs crossed and a mug to his lips. Reading something on his phone. You cross the cafe and hold your breath.
Your knees knock into the mosaic table and Sirius looks up. He stands quickly and he's already smiling. So wide you think it might hurt. "Oh my god," he says cheerfully. Your bottom lips juts out. "Baby, it looks so good!'
He reaches up to run his hands gently through your hair. He twirls a lock around his finger, eyes bright and wide. It feels funny because you really hate it. He's gotta be lying to save you. You turn your face to hide in his hand and he cups your cheek.
"You don't like it?" He's doubling down, startled to find your face a little wet under his palm. You shake your head in his hands and he coos. "Really?"
"No, look at it." You take your hair into your hands and tug at it gently, still, a tad peeved. He frowns.
"I am, honey," he laughs a little. "It looks good, I love it!"
"Don't lie to me."
"What?" He knocks your pouty lip with a bent knuckly gently. "I'm so serious with you right now. It looks amazing."
"The hairdresser must've been drunk." You're so sincere about it, Sirius almost laughs some more. He decides against it. "It's all choppy and crooked,"
"It's not," he says. "Would I lie to you?"
"Probably," you grumble.
He smooths his hands over your head and is smiling so genuinely you think you might feel a little bit better. You're not sure if you despise him for how he makes you feel, because you truly don't like your haircut, but he's looking at it so softly, like he's never liked something more in his life.
His eyes glimmer and his mouth twitches. "Lovely." He's speaking so softly that he's hard to be heard over the cafe. There are no more than five people in here. "It looks amazing. I promise. God," he's doubling down to save himself, lest he look like a total sap right here and now, "you look so pretty." He swallows.
"Do you really mean that?" It's a silly question, really. Sirius is a really good liar but you don't think he'd ever lie to you about this. He hates to see you upset but he'd rather be truthful.
"Of course," he says, hands finding their place on your shoulders. "Really. It suits you so well."
You probably should believe him. You've no reason not to.
You sit down in the seat in front of him in case you do something stupid like hug him in the middle of the cafe until your legs are sore. Sirius seems mildly put out. He sits down with you and doesn't waste time grabbing your hand.
"I'm sorry," you mumble. You use your free hand to take his mug and hold it to your lips. "Am I being stupid?" you ask before you take a sip.
He takes the mug back when you give it to him, quick to speak. "No, it's okay. It might just need to be styled differently. You know what you like."
"Yeah," you hum.
There's a silence where Sirius can tell you're thinking about your hair still. "You want me to order you a muffin?"
You smile and Sirius feels a little better. "And a chai latte?"
"Of course."
Sirius starts chatting away and you forget about you hair almost immediately.

"Have fun, love, but not too much, eh?" Sirius teased his girlfriend, your big sister. Kissing her lips, you felt a wave of jealousy crashing over your chest, wishing it was you who he was kissing instead.
"Is just a road trip, Sirius." Your sister giggled, holding her backpack. "Are you sure you don't wanna come?"
He shook his head, pressing another kiss against her lips. "Nah, girls' weekend, have a rest from me, babe, you deserve it. Tell Mrs Moony I say hi." And with another round of goodbye kisses, she left, leaving you two alone in the small flat.
You moved to the city with your older sister who was thrilled to have you with her, and her boyfriend Sirius who was practically living there too. In the beginning, the relationship between you and Sirius was a little awkward; He was so flirty and touchy, so your sister and her friends, (who also happened to be his friends) explained to you that Sirius was just being himself. Then, everything took an… interesting turn. Noticing how his eyes lingered over you, wearing those short summer dresses, how he smirked at the sight of you bending down to pick the cans of beer from the living room, giving him a slight peek of your pretty cunt pressed against the pink fabric of your panties, how much he enjoyed braiding your hair, his fingertips brushing your neck, making you shiver.
The little attempts to catch his attention were painfully obvious. You felt guilty, of course, he was your big sis’ boyfriend for god's sake! But you couldn’t help it, he was too charming for you to simply ignore him, with his breathtaking grey eyes, his sexy smirk and the way his fingers trailed your shoulders when you were wearing those tiny tank tops… I mean, give yourself a break!
“Um.” You cleared your throat, trying to push away the image of his lips all over you to the back of your head. “I’m gonna go take a shower.” Standing up from the living room, hearing him chuckle, you rushed to the bathroom, locking the door.
The cold water ran through your body, in a desperate attempt to cool down the burning feeling of desire you had for your sister’s boyfriend.
Grabbing a near towel hanging on the grab bar, you wrapped it around your naked, wet form just in time to remember how you forgot a dry set of clothes. You cursed under your breath while opening the bathroom door so slowly it seemed like it took forever to walk through, looking at both sides of the tiny hallway, relieved to see it empty. After tiptoeing to your room, next to your sister's, Sirius's voice coming from the tiny gap of the open door caught your attention, the curiosity getting the best of you leaned closer.
“I swear, Prongs.” He was on the phone, presumably with James. "She’s so fucking hot, and I have to spend the weekend with her, have you seen her? I want to devour her.” His words made you gasp, quickly covering your mouth with your hand, hoping he hadn’t heard you. “She loves to act dumb, mate. I’m starting to think she’s actually that dumb. Better for me, I like em' more when they only have air inside their cute little heads.”
James must have said something funny on the other side of the line because Sirius started laughing. You’re about to leave, one hand still on your mouth and the other clutching tightly at the towel covering your decency when the door opens.
"Whoa, look who we've got here." Sirius is standing next to you, phone pressed against his ear and a pleased smile on his handsome face. “Guess who was eavesdropping on our little chat, Prongs?”
“I didn’t hear anything, I swear.” The lie rolled down your lips and before you could take a single step, a ringed hand is pressed against your hip, making you squeal.
“Spare the lies, love.” Sirius practically drags you inside the bedroom, closing the door with his foot. “Be a good girl and lemme see you, come on.”
Your body tingled with courage at first, the hunger in his eyes sending you a wave of courage, and soon, the towel pooled at your feet, exposing your naked form to your sister's boyfriend, who eyed you up and down and licked his lips. “Gorgeous.” He whispered. The way he approached you made you shiver in anticipation, feeling defenceless. “So this is what’s gonna happen, pup.” Placing the phone on the bed, he pressed the speaker button. “I’m gonna fuck you in your sister’s bed, and Prongs here is gonna hear all of it, okay?.” You nod but is not enough for him. “Ask me for it, let Prongs hear you.”
“Please fuck me in my sister’s bed, while James’s on the phone.” There was no turning back. The words felt unreal, and the crimson blush that followed them only amused Sirius beyond limits.
Then, he kissed you, and the way he did was so passionate it took away every hint of common sense you had left. His tongue took its time exploring your mouth, delighted at the taste of your lips. He was a very good kisser. Pushing you to the bed, he caged you with his body, wasting no time licking and biting your neck, his rings scraping the supple flesh of your tits. The loud moan that escaped your lips made James groan on the other side of the line.
“You want Prongs to jerk himself with your pretty noises, pup?” Sirius breathed against your chest, only to bite your nipple making you moan again.
“Yes, please.” You begged, James was also insanely hot, with those broad shoulders, that American tan and those pretty messy curls, countless times you had daydreamed about tugging them while he's burying his face between your thighs.
“I can’t say no to that.” James chuckled and you heard the clear sound of a zipper being pulled down.
A finger slides across your folds, gathering the increasing dampness, causing you to whine. “Focus on me, doll, I’m the one making you feel good.” It sounded more like a threat. Either way, you whimpered in agreement. “Look at you, your pussy is basically dripping f’me.” To remark his words, he inserts two fingers, prompted to curl them. The new feeling made you cry with pleasure. “There we go, so eager, aren’t you?”
No one had ever touched you like that, he seemed to know exactly what to do for you to become putty in his hands. The lewd sound of your pussy clenching on his fingers and your moans are music for his ears. “Please.” You beg again when his palm scratched very lightly your clit.
“Please what, baby?” Sirius asked, acting innocently, repeating the action.
A few moans distracted you from his question, licking your lips at the sounds of James jacking off and his occasional groans, you closed your eyes picturing the scene, his shirt being held up by his teeth, his glasses sliding down his nose from the sweat, his sweatpants tugged down just below his thighs, stroking his hard cock up and down, up and down at the sound of your moans… Speaking of moans, a loud one escaped your lips when Sirius’s hand slapped your pussy far from delicately, another warning. “I asked you a question, are you dumb?”
“Please fuck me, Siri, please” The answer earned your a groan from both men, the mere sound almost sending you over the edge.
“You really want that, love? You want me to fuck you dumb in your big sister’s bed?”
Fuck.
“Do you want me to use you like a little toy? My little toy?” His words are relentless, determined to not give you a break. “I’m sure you do, pup. I can fucking see the way you drool for me, your sister’s boyfriend.”
“What a dirty little girl…” James moans.
“Wearing those little dresses, batting those pretty eyes at me, begging for me to fuck you.” Sirius pulled away from you much to your displeasure, removing his shirt and his jeans as quick as his hands allowed him.
Having him naked was a whole different experience. You've seen him without a shirt countless times, trying to be discreet (and failing miserably), spellbound at the way his arms flex, at his black tattoos, bold and dangerous, just like he is, but to actually have him like this was an experience of a lifetime. While torturing you, he stripped away every piece of clothing from him parsimoniously until he's fully naked, and you're now certain you like everything about him.
“Can’t wait to make you mine.” He growled, opening your legs and with one hand coating his hard length with your lovely fluids. He slid in with a swift thrust, almost bottoming out. " Fuck, if I knew this beauty was so tight, I would've fucked her months ago."
“Is it better than her sister’s?” James teased Sirius, making you moan in the procedure.
“Way fuuuuucking better Prongs.” And living up to his words, Sirius's pace is merciless, the obscene sounds of his thrusts and how your puffy cute pussy clenches around him made James moan louder through the phone, and you can hear the wet sounds his cock is making against his hand. “You hear that, love? Prongs s’gonna cum with the thought of your adorable pussy.”
James’s loud groan indicated to you that he did in fact cum.
“You like it when your sister’s boyfriend makes you his personal slut?” His hand reached between your bodies, rubbing your clit in tiny shapes.
“Y-Yes!” The desperation in your voice is priceless. “Fuck, p-please.”
“Are you gonna cum? Pretty girl?” James’s hoarse voice next to you almost felt as if he was right there. “Are you gonna make a mess on Pads’ cock?”
“I can feel your tight pussy swallowing my cock, sweetheart.” The man above you is wild, driving you insane.
“Are you gonna milk his cock like the good girl you are?”
“Fuck, s’good.”
Sirius groaned lewdly at the way you came, squeezing him impossibly harder, feeling you come undone under him, seeing the way your back arched in pleasure, how your eyes rolled to the back of your skull, and the sweet, sweet way you yelled his name. The warm feeling of hot, strings of cum inside you is literally overwhelming, and when he pulled out, you can feel it almost squirting out of you, making a mess on the purple bedsheets.
“Such a mess.” He panted, running a hand through his hair. “You better wash those sheets, lovely, unless you want your sister to know I fucked you dumb in her bed.”
“Fuck, she can make a mess on me whenever she wants.”
“You hear that bunny? What do you think if we invite Prongs for breakfast tomorrow?” Long fingers gather some of his cum and yours, pushing it back inside your empty hole.
“Only if she’s the dessert.”

authors note: SO MUCH FLUFF and remus is second guessing EVERYTHING. obviously inspired by wish you were sober by conan gray :) they’re not together when this starts and remus is feeling very unsure about a lot of things. sirius helps him out with that though ;) somehow from the dining table by harry styles possessed me to write this in half an hour idk why it doesn’t even give the same vibes but ig it feels like a wolfstar song to me soooo —as always this is unedited and i wrote it at 2am so i might read it later and think it's total shit (but currently this is my fave wolfstar fic i've writen) also this was meant to be like 500 words and its almost 2k lmaooo
Remus was a blushing mess. Sirius had insisted on doing Remus’ eyeliner—saying that Remus would just look ‘so hot’ in it—and who was he to refuse? For Sirius, he would do anything. The problem was, he hadn’t exactly pictured agreeing to this resulting in Sirius straddling his hips, leaning extremely close to his face with his tongue poked out due to his level of focus.
“Merlin, Moony, you’ll be the hottest one at the party.” Well, one of us certainly will be, and it’s not me.
Remus was screaming internally, but he mustered a playful smirk and a quick: “am I not already?”
Sirius sent him a grin as he continued to do his makeup, “of course you are, darling. Anyone who disagrees is blind.”
Remus was certainly not blind when it came to noticing the tiny things Sirius was doing, however. The way he pushed his dark curls out of his eyes with one hand and clenched his jaw slightly in concentration with one eyebrow slightly raised? Fucking hell, it drove him insane. Remus wanted so strongly to just grab his face and smash their lips together.
He didn’t do that, obviously.
“Okay, I’m almost done,” Sirius muttered while he did the final touches to the eyeliner. “You ready for everyone at this party to fall madly in love with you?” I only want you to love me.
Remus swallowed a lump in his throat and looked up at Sirius, “as long as you’re one of them.”
Sirius looked a little taken aback for a moment and Remus could’ve sworn he saw him blush, but he was likely just seeing what he wanted to see. At the look on Sirius’ face, Remus mentally cursed himself for speaking his thoughts aloud. Remus’ worry was unnecessary—as it often was—because a broad smile soon took over his features and he pressed a kiss to Remus’ cheek. “You can count on that.”
Even after he had pulled away, Remus could feel the ghost of his lips where they had been on his cheek, and he refused to look at Sirius because he knew he was a blushing mess.
“Moony?”
This broke Remus out of his thoughts, and he looked up with wide eyes. “Yeah?”
Sirius smirked in amusement at Remus’ absentmindedness and the fluffy-haired boy could only hope that he was unaware that he was the cause of it all. “Could you go check if James is ready? I need to fix my outfit.”
Remus scoffed softly, “Pads, I hardly think your outfit needs fixing.” Sirius was wearing a white cropped tank top—Moony loved it because showed off his tattoos and biceps— with an array of necklaces draped around his neck. He had on his favourite baggy jeans (the ones with stars on them that Remus had helped him make) and a black belt adorning his waist, and the look was finished off with a pair of Dr. Martens.
Sirius winked at him, “well, you know me. I have to look perfect for you, my love.”
The last two words almost resulted in Sirius being pushed up against the wall, so Remus opted for a short: “You always look perfect to me, darling,” before he exited the room as fast as he possibly could.
He found James downstairs in their common room, lying on the couch with Regulus curled up at his side. James was stroking Regulus’ hair and whispering sweet nothings into his ears, and Remus smiled at the two as he flopped down on the seat opposite them. James looked up and surveyed his flushed cheeks, he then asked casually, “so, have you two made out yet?”
Remus threw the nearest book (which happened to be Lily’s current reread, Pride and Prejudice) at him before glancing across at Lily, who was sat across the common room watching the exchange with a grin. “Sorry, Lily. it was for a good cause.”
“No, no. I’m curious too. Are the two of you,” she wiggled her eyebrows playfully, “getting any action?”
Remus glared at his friend, “shut up. And for your information, no.”
Regulus cooed at him from where he sat with James, “oh, poor Remus. So much flirting, so little of anything else—including your transfiguration notes, by the way. I wanted to borrow someone’s notes for the class I missed, so I asked James, who obviously redirected me to your extensive pile of notes on your desk. That desk is very disorganised, by the way. But alas, no notes. Never thought you were the type to forget to take notes. Spending too much time yearning over my brother in that class, Lupin?”
Remus looked away in embarrassment, “don’t rely on someone else’s notes next time, Reggie.”
“Don’t spend hours on end staring at my brother and I wouldn’t have to call you out for not having your notes.”
Groaning, Remus stood up, “okay, I’m going to get a sweater. See you guys soon!” he began to walk up the stairs but he was stopped when he walked into Sirius walking down. He had redone his hair and put it half into a low bun, and he had gained several rings and had a leather jacket in his hands.
He grinned at Remus, “ready to go?”
“Oh, I need-”
His favourite woollen jumper was shoved into his arms and he blinked slowly as Sirius spoke. “I thought you might want it.”
Remus shifted his weight from side to side as he looked down at the sweater in his hands and he was overcome with an overwhelming sense of adoration for the boy standing in front of him.
He didn’t realise how long he had been staring down at it until Sirius ruffled his hair softly.
“Hey, you okay? You zoned out.”
“Oh, uh, yeah. I’m fine, thanks for getting this. We can go down now, if you want?”
Sirius nodded, taking Remus’ hand and tugging him gently down the stairs. Remus felt his heart beating faster than he deemed normal, but he couldn’t remember anything about human biology at that moment due to his mind racing at a million miles per minute. As the two walked into the common room, he met eyes with Lily and sent her an alarmed expression, to which she smirked at. She tapped Mary’s shoulder and pointed at Sirius and Remus’ entwined hands. Mary grinned and gave a silent cheer directed to Remus.
There were already more people in the common room, a variation of people Remus recognised and people he didn’t (admittedly more of the later group). Sirius led Remus towards James, Regulus, and Peter, who were now sitting upright on the couch. Remus sat next to Regulus and the boy smirked at him.
“You’re a mess, Lupin.”
Peter walked around the back of the couch to whisper in Remus’ ear, “I say just kiss and be done with it. This flirting is sickening.” Remus gently slapped Peter’s shoulder with the hand that wasn’t still clasped in Sirius’ ring-clad one and the other boy lightly gasped. “Well, they do say love makes people crazy.”
Remus groaned loudly at Peter’s words, and Sirius turned to him. “You okay?”
“No, he’s in-” Remus pressed his free hand over Peter’s mouth with a warning expression directed at the shorter boy.
“Yeah, I’m okay.” He smiled at Sirius, who looked unconvinced and squeezed his hand reassuringly. Remus almost melted right then and there, and Peter snickered at the interaction.
James stood up abruptly, “alright, who wants some firewhisky?”
Sirius cheered, standing up to follow James and pulling Remus to his feet by the hand he didn’t quite want to let go of just yet.
Tumblr media
Ten minutes later, Remus was leaning against the wall with a half full glass of firewhisky and a small smile on his face as he watched Sirius participating in some stupid dare. The long-haired boy kept sending little glances over at Remus to see if he was watching and letting his teasing gaze linger when they made eye contact. Somehow, Sirius had convinced Regulus to participate in the game, and the two brothers had light, carefree smiles on their faces.
Remus felt another presence next to him and looked over to see James, watching the Black brothers with a yearning look on his face similar to the one that was probably adorning Remus’ face. Smiling at Remus,
James muttered, “oh, our stars are so pretty.”
Remus nodded in agreement, “so pretty.”
The two stood there with adoring expressions painting their features for another ten minutes minutes before Remus felt an arm wrap around his shoulders, warm breath alarmingly close to his ear. He was overcome with an immense feeling of discomfort.
A sultry feminine voice whispered, “well, aren’t you a handsome specimen, what if I-”
The voice didn’t even get a chance to finish before Remus felt a well-known hand grab his own. “What if you piss off and take your wandering hands out of my boyfriend’s personal space?”
Remus did a double take.
His eyes widened slightly and he glanced at where James had been with a confused expression, only to find that his friend had disappeared. When he finally mustered the courage to look at Sirius, he was surprised to find him with a deep blush covering his cheeks. They met eyes.
“Fuck, I’m sorry! I didn’t know how else to get her away from you—and you were so uncomfortable, I couldn’t just stand there and watch. Plus, I didn’t want her touching you– I’m sorry, I’m rambling, fuck.”
Remus had the best idea he had had all night long. “Who said it was something to be sorry for?”
Sirius froze. “What do you mean?”
“What do you think I mean?”
Sirius looked into Remus’ eyes for a few moments before grabbing his face and smashing their lips together. It was a messy kiss, all teeth clashing and hands grabbing at hair.
Remus pulled away suddenly, “how drunk are you, exactly?”
“Not drunk enough to be making this up, if that’s what you’re asking?”
“Sober enough to remember it in the morning?”
“Well, if I don’t, we can always recreate it.” Sirius winked playfully and squeezed Remus’ hand.
“Hmm, can’t say I’d be opposed to that, darling…” Remus trailed off slowly as he pushed Sirius against the wall, bringing their lips together in another kiss. This kiss was slow, sweet, and a stark contrast to their first kiss. Remus had one hand resting on Sirius’ cheek and another tangled in his curls, and Sirius’ had his arms draped over Remus’ shoulders.
Remus’ eyes suddenly caught the metal glint of a necklace hanging around Sirius’ neck, and he raised an eyebrow as he pulled slightly away from the kiss. “Is that mine?”
Sirius scoffed, “you never wore it, anyway. It was wasted on you.” Remus smiled softly and wasted no time in bringing their lips together once again.

Hopelessness
@prongsfoot-microfic
It turned out that this microfic is 1600 words long, so if it's more convenient for someone to read on AO3, here's the link.
It's jilypad.
---
Sirius kisses Lily’s belly, stretched by a muggle T-shirt with Black Sabbath on it, his gift. The air's filled with the light scent of jasmine from the open window, letting in the cool June breeze. Lily isn't really into Black Sabbath, but Sirius hopes the band's symbolism might somehow influence Harry’s musical taste, since he’s got no hope with Lily and James. As Lily recently said, she wears that T-shirt solely because it features a "handsome vocalist" who reminds her of Sirius.   Sirius is quite pleased with that outcome.
They're sprawled on a wide sofa under a soft blanket, Sirius snuggled up beside Lily. The quiet of the Potter home, only interrupted by the ticking of antique clocks, always puts Sirius in a peaceful state. Lily gently strokes her rounded belly, while Sirius, with his arm around her waist, draws patterns on her skin, occasionally leaving soft kisses in response to the baby's sharp kicks. James, sitting opposite in a battered chair once favoured by Fleamont, reads the newspaper, his eyes scanning the pages gloomily.
"Oh," Lily exhales lightly. "He's been kicking all day. Extra lively today."
"Harry," Sirius murmurs softly, amazed at the depth of feeling he has for a child not yet born. "My handsome, smart boy."
"When did you get so sentimental?" James asks, not looking up from his paper.
"Since you married this incredible woman and started your own amateur production of 'Tiny Humans.' Even my frostbitten heart had to defrost for the premiere."
"Oh, my love," Lily, smiling softly, reaches out to gently ruffle Sirius's hair, "sometimes I think, what if I'd married you instead of James? How much prettier would my child be?" Lily's light, carefree laughter makes Sirius smile.
"Hey," James perks up, pretending to be offended. "There’s a lot of Blacks. And only one of me. Harry's gonna have the most unique hair in all of Magical Britain."
"And the dullest sense of humour," Sirius shoots back, still focused on the belly, speaking in a teasingly sweet tone as if talking to Harry. "Hopefully, you’ve got a better one. You got a bit short-changed on the genes from one side, but I promise to teach you."
"At least my humour doesn’t make people want to off themselves," counters James.
"You adore my jokes, don't kid yourself."
"Haven't heard one yet."
Sirius flicks his middle finger at James, who just chuckles, then removes his glasses and rubs his nose bridge in mock exasperation.
"Everything alright?" Lily asks him, concern in her voice.
"Yeah," James replies, trying to mask the worry in his voice. "Just going to make some tea."
Rising from his chair and heading to the kitchen, James leaves a trail of unspoken thoughts behind him. Sirius watches him go, and Lily, with a soft sigh, shakes her head.
"He's like this all day. Lost in thoughts about the war. Sticks to me like glue. Fancy taking him out somewhere? Hit a pub? Even stay out all night. He needs to get out more. He can't keep guarding me from God knows what," Lily adjusts a stray lock of Sirius's hair, a simple, familiar gesture.
"Alright, but not tonight," Sirius responds tenderly, kissing Lily's belly one last time before gently running his hand over her soft skin and carefully standing up from the sofa to not disturb her.
"Patrol?"
"Yeah," Sirius glances at the old wall clock, "and I'm already late."
"Why don't you move in with us?" Lily stops him with the question she poses every month.
"Don’t start," Sirius says with a light reprimand. "I'd end up covered in old people's dust here, sipping teas and reading newspapers. Tea? Seriously? When was the last time I drank tea?"
Her laughter, bright and full, fills the room, reflecting off the warm glow of the candles. She could easily shift from a pensive mood to mirth, and really, it took nothing to make her laugh. Lily was always so light, Sirius adored that about her. Like an autumn maple leaf playfully dancing with the wind – always ready to soar at the slightest breeze.
"Come here," she extends her arms, and Sirius leans in, allowing Lily to plant a tender kiss on his lips. "I love you," she looks at him, her gaze filled with care and tenderness, "Be careful."
"You too," Sirius smiles and ruffles her hair. "Look after Harry."
Stepping into the hallway, leaving Lily resting on the sofa, Sirius grabs his jacket from the coat rack and pulls it on, whistling a tune he caught in some noisy muggle café.
"James! I’m off."
James peeks out from the kitchen, holding a pack of tea.
"Not staying for tea?" he asks, knowing the answer already.
Sirius isn't much for tea, yet James has been offering it to him for years. In an attempt to make the drink more appealing, he once even started spiking the tea with Firewhisky. That gimmick worked for a while, but soon not even Firewhisky could dispel Sirius's irritation with the whole tedious, monotonous process.
"No, got patrol."
James looks slightly disappointed, tosses the tea pack onto a table cluttered with books and newspapers, and approaches Sirius.
"Lily suggested we should hit a bar," Sirius mentions.
James shrugs, adjusting his glasses absently.
"I can't leave her alone. Every time I go on patrol, you know it’s torture for me. I keep thinking something might happen, that they might attack our home, and…"
"I know," Sirius cuts him off. "That’s why I’m not inviting you. Just passing on Lily’s words."
James gives a soft smile, tilting his head slightly.
"You’ll come over on Friday?" he asks.
"Yes."
"And stay the night?"
"Of course."
James nods and hugs Sirius, pressing his face to his neck. Sirius leans into his ear, kissing it and breathing in the scent of earthy moss and the morning forest. James's scent always carried the notes of their moonlit adventures, as if his skin had absorbed the essence of those nights. They stand in silence for a moment until the soft hum of an old radio playing a vintage jazz tune Lily adores drifts in from the living room.
"Everything will be alright, James, hear me?" Sirius whispers, probably a bit too roughly patting James on the head as his movements have grown more abrupt lately. "I promise. Everything will be alright. With Lily, with you, with Harry."
"Yes," James says, rubbing an eye then running a hand through his hair. "Of course. It'll be alright. With you too."
"I'm not that important."
"Don't talk like that," James responds in a strained voice.
"I’d do anything for you, whatever it takes," Sirius says in a matter-of-fact tone, as if they’re discussing a Christmas dinner menu, not talking about things people usually don’t say to each other when everything’s fine.
James steps back, looks up at Sirius, and smirks, chasing away the worried shadows from his face.
"Have I mentioned you’ve become sentimental?"
"I've spent too much time around a mushy sod like you," Sirius grins, shrugging. "Bad influence."
James laughs, shoving Sirius's shoulder then pulling him in close, as if wanting to hide away in Sirius's broad embrace.
"I love you, you idiot," he kisses him, fingers threading through Sirius’s hair, tousling it. "Don’t be late on Friday. Lily’s making your favourite blueberry pie."
"I won’t," Sirius breathes out huskily.
James nods, and Sirius steps out the door. The June air hits his face, a warm breeze flicking a lock of hair from his forehead. The scent of night flowers mingles with the smell of fresh paint – someone nearby decided to give their fence a fresh coat.
Sirius moves a few meters away, casting one last glance at the Potters' house. James stands in the doorway, leaning on one shoulder against the frame. Sirius catches his worried gaze and nods subtly in response.
A moment later, Sirius apparates, but James's troubled face lingers in his mind like an echo. Usually, James's face brings peace, but this time it leaves a quiet itch, a reminder that Sirius is missing something, yet can't quite grasp what it is.
The war makes everyone nervous, anxious, and lost, and Sirius knows better than to succumb to these draining sentiments. But seeing those feelings in James – the person who made Sirius believe that even in the coldest winter, there's an unbeatable summer living inside him – Sirius realizes things are grim.
Of course, Sirius will come over on Friday. Perhaps he'll stay for the weekend, and they'll spend it together, like old times, before the threat of war knocked so clearly on their doors. They'll wake up to a late breakfast in the garden, reminiscing about school under the rustling of green leaves and birdsong, and perhaps even making plans for the future where the war is just a distant memory—a future where Sirius already knows exactly how to raise Harry and what gifts to give him from the very first months of his life.
A future where they're together.
After breakfast, they'll apparate to the lake, where James will set up broom races, beating Sirius yet again.  Lily, always rooting for Sirius, will put on a theatrical display of disappointment and spend the day cheering him up, recounting for the hundredth time the tales of James's rare Quidditch misplays at Hogwarts—as if Sirius didn't already know each one by heart.
After dinner, James will suggest a game of wizard chess, and Lily will pick out a book to read aloud by the fireplace. Soon, she will head to bed early, as has become more common since she got pregnant, and James and Sirius will go out to the garden, lie on the grass, and spend the night forgetting all worries, remembering that it's moments like these for which they're fighting and ruthlessly suppressing the hopelessness that seeks to consume their souls.

Why do fanon wolfstar fans make it out like the ship only works if Sirius Black is short, tiny, a dainty little waif who must be completely engulfed by strong werewolf tall angry man Remus. Why are you shipping wolfstar if you don’t even like the canon material lmao. And before you say ‘oh but canon is written by jkr’ yeah we hate jkr in this house, but even by making these characters into different people, you’re still using their names, their backgrounds, the setting.

Perfect.
Regulus x fem!reader
Regulus Black was nothing short of perfect. At least that was what Y/n saw. She saw perfection in the smallest things.
Y/n was the type of person that liked to see wonder in the world, she was also way too observent. If you asked her what she saw in a glass of water, she'd say a clean glass of water.
What she saw in Bowtruckles? Their tiny hands, their playful and mischievous personality, their sensitive feelings hidden behind confidence, their vibrant green colours and so on.
Y/n saw things in a light not many see in. She believed everything was beautiful in its own way. And this belief made her see perfection in Regulus Arcturus Black.
The way his messy curls fell when he spoke, disobeying his perfect pureblood posture.
The way his eyes sparkled when he spoke of the stars.
How he narrowed his grey eyes and slightly sucked his cheeks when he concentrated.
How he always drummed his finger against his cup in the morning as he listened to Lucius ramble.
How he only hummed in response when he didn't concentrate but still tried to be polite.
How whenever he's angry or irritated, he'd swear in french under his breath because he didn't like loud voices.
How he was beyond patient and always trying to calm himself down if he was being pushed to the limits.
How he'd run his hands through his hair to try and tame it but it always betrayed him and fell.
Or run his hands down his face making you finally realise the dark bags under his eyes.
But there were somethings she knew that broke her every time.
She knew he liked to compare himself to his brother, Sirius.
She knew he was always tested by his Slytherin roomates to where his loyalties lied.
She knew that sometimes it was too much for him. Sometimes, when the stress and pressure was to much, it would break his walls.
And it broke her.
After an hour or so of pleading and begging for him to let her in, to let her hold him, comfort him.
Telling him that they could share the pain, that this relationship wasn't one but two. She knew that he feared that she'd leave him if she saw him like this but it was the complete opposite.
She had once punched Lucius just to make a point. Of course it had cost her detentions but she didn't care. Anything was worth seeing his almost visible smile.
When he'd finally let her in, she would hold him in her arms. She'd rest his head on he lap as he tried to hide his face and silence his cries.
She run her hands through his curls and tell him its okay. "It's okay to cry, it doesn't make you weak. It just means you've been strong for too long."
She'd kiss his hand, his head, his shoulder. She'd run her hands down his back soothingly. She'd push his hair back and kiss his forehead, his temples, his cheek.
She'd tell him how perfect he is. How wonderful, and happy he made her feel. How she had many friends that made her feel loved but with him she felt special. How he was special.
She'd read to him.
He'd be too tired to object to a muggle book but she knew the next day, he'd go back to his normal denying self.
And at some time would come over to her and point out how ridiculous the muggle book was and everything that didn't make sense.
The book held up by magic, while one hand intertwined with his and the other combing through his hair, she'd read to him till he cried himself dry.
She'd feel he's eyes fall and struggle to stay awake. She whisper good night to him and sweet dreams with a small smile when his eyes finally shut.
She'd place the book down and wrap her arms around him reminding his safe, she wait an hour or so to check he didn't have nightmares.
If he did, she'd lie there with him and draw small circles in his palm telling him some of her most embarrassing moments or muggle jokes that Regulus believed were pathetic but still smile because of how pathetic they were.
But in either situations she'd wake up early and personally make them breakfast, knowing he'd wish to go to class right away and avoid his 'friends'.
He'd thank her, kiss her and ramble of how she shouldn't have done that but she'd only look at him with a genuine smile and tell him it was nothing.
He'd motion for her to sit next to him and most of the time, they'd eat in silence but every time after they ate and got ready he'd thank her, kiss her, tell her he didn't deserve her and that she was beyond perfect and whisper the three words that made Y/n fall for him deeper every moment of the day.
"I love you."

Order In The Court (The Incident)
Summary:
They would joke about ‘The Incident’ for years after, the story always becoming more melodramatic with each theatrical retelling. It was Sirius’ favorite story to tell, and he recited it at their wedding two years later. “And it all started because I got called to jury duty…”
Read on A03
"Please, do find yourself a comfortable seat," the woman behind the front desk instructed, extending a badge emblazoned with the word JUROR in bold crimson letters towards Sirius Black. "Our orientation session is set to commence in a mere two minutes."
Sirius couldn't help but entertain a sense of incredulity at the summons to jury duty. After all, he held the esteemed position of being the closest confidant and cherished friend of none other than Judge James Potter. Sirius had naively assumed that his role in assisting James with his meticulously organized Pokémon card collection would surely render him exempt from the mundane responsibilities of jury service.
Alas, fate had a different plan, as the summons found its way into their mailbox, delivered with no small amount of glee by James himself, his smirk rather too wide for someone delivering stupid civic duty. James, in his characteristic wit, dubbed the summons as 'bring your best friend to work day', a moniker that Sirius cynically rebranded as a 'governmental conspiracy.'
As Sirius made his way into the juror room, James' image beamed proudly from the screens above, accompanied by a short biography detailing his legal prowess. Cheryl, the woman stationed at the front desk, cast a scrutinizing gaze upon Sirius as he navigated past her station to claim a seat.
With a resounding thud, Sirius deposited himself into an unoccupied chair adjacent to a red-haired individual whose face bore an expression of palpable frustration, their heated conversation on the phone permeating the room with an air of agitation.
"This woman at the front desk told me that this could take all day, so if you don't hear from me, I've asked the supposed murderer to murder me."
the irate woman said into the phone, shooting Sirius a look to convey her similar disdain for being there. She was speaking to someone with a high-pitched voice, but the conversation ended abruptly. The woman pulled her phone from her ear and pouted.
Sirius' gray eyes returned to the television screen in front of them. James' face reappeared, accompanied by his bio. The woman looked up just as James' face disappeared, leaving only his bio, which stressed his love for doughnuts and race cars.
"What kind of idiot admits they like Krispy Kreme over Dunkin' Donuts?" the woman muttered next to Sirius with a slight grunt before resuming her phone surfing.
Sirius resisted the urge to tell her that James had a knack for picking the worst foods to love. Anyone who chose Denny's over IHOP was clearly insane, and James picked Denny's every single time.
Suddenly, Sirius' phone went off in his pocket. He leaned up to pull his cell from his jeans pocket. The white screen flashed with more than one message from James Potter.
JP: I can't believe that we get to hang out all day together! / If u get picked to be in my courtroom, that is. / I could get fired for telling u this, but old man Alexander needs a panel of like, twenty jurors, so good luck NOT getting picked. / Are u downstairs?
Sirius rolled his eyes and began texting James back.
SB: They've stuffed at least 150 of us in this tiny room and are about to start orientation. / What happens if I leave before they call my name?
JP: Death penalty for running from ur civic duty
SB: How many jurors do you need?
JP: Idk. This attorney in my case is killing my vibe, and I can't focus. / G2G, the attorney just realized I'm not paying attention to the case and threatened to sue me.
SB: Threaten him with the death penalty.
James remained silent, prompting Sirius to exhale wearily as he reclined in his chair. Glancing at the clock across from him, he noted only a few minutes had elapsed. He sighed once more, drawing a glance from his striking neighbor. Before she could utter a word, a voice resonated from a small stage to their right.
It was Cheryl, the woman from the front desk, positioned at a podium to give instructions. "Alright, let's get started. I see you're all eager to begin your jury duty today."
The surrounding individuals chuckled, albeit with a tinge of bitterness. Cheryl appeared encouraged by the response and proceeded, adjusting her blonde hair. "First, we'll recite the pledge of allegiance."
Reluctantly, Sirius stood and placed a hand over his heart. The red-haired girl beside him wore an indifferent expression as she mimicked the action. Once the pledge concluded, Cheryl instructed them to affirm their commitment to truth before the court of law.
Sirius couldn't shake the feeling of being back in grade school, facing the stern gaze of the principal.
Finally, Cheryl had them seated again before outlining the rules. "Most trials are resolved within a day, and not everyone will be selected. If chosen for jury duty, remember you cannot disclose any information once you leave the courtroom. Those not selected must remain on standby in case additional jurors are needed." Sirius frowned deeply at the prospect of spending the entire day confined to the same room. "Lunch will be provided around midday, and I'll announce when it's time over the loudspeaker. Any questions?"
There was silence.
"This is the perfect time to turn to your neighbors and introduce yourselves."
Of fucking course Cheryl would encourage socialization.
Sirius turned to the redhead, who was eyeing his long black hair with interest. He hadn't noticed before, but her eyes were a startling green, and she was wearing a Levins University sweater. Sirius and James had both attended Levins. The woman stuck out her hand, and he took it kindly.
"Sirius Black," he grunted.
"I'm Lily," she said. "Lily Evans."
Sirius' eyes flashed to her sweatshirt. "When did you graduate?"
Lily responded lukewarmly, "I dropped out."
Sirius raised an interested brow at his neighbor. "Me too. Not your slice of pie?"
Lily tilted her head at him. "What?"
"I mean, did you drop out because you're not very good at school?"
Lily's eyes twinkled precariously. "I got into Harvard Law."
Sirius’ frown faltered. "Oh, sorry..."
"I happen to have an IQ of five hundred and fifty-six."
"Is that even a thing?" He couldn't tell if she was kidding or not.
"I dunno, you tell me."
He stared at her with uncertainty, and then she laughed, a sound that was both warm and spirited.
"I'm just kidding; I don't go to Harvard," Lily waved her hand at Sirius with a grin. "I had to leave LU for a year to take care of my dad. I'm back for my last year. I'm a chemistry major."
Sirius was surprised by her choice of major. "Wow, how—erm—" he paused, not knowing how to phrase his question without insulting her again.
Chemistry was more boring to him than watching wet paint dry.
Instead of being awkward, she challenged him. "Say what you're thinking. You think I'm a nerd."
"Intellectual," Sirius stated.
Her smile widened. "Nice save."
Sirius cracked his own grin; she had the same sense of humor as James. It was uncanny that he'd find the pale, red-haired version of his roommate in jury duty. She even ran her fingers through her loose hair in a way reminiscent of how James messed up his curls.
Lily stopped looking at Sirius to glance down at her phone, which was going off every ten seconds. She was texting back someone with little smirks and a few eye rolls. Since Sirius didn't have anything else to do while they waited, he continued watching her interact with the world behind her screen.
"You're quite popular," he finally said, after about forty minutes of her back and forth texting.
Lily blew her hair from her eyes and sent Sirius a disgraced look. "Everyone's giving me tips on how to get out of jury duty."
"You don't want to be here?"
"You do?" she asked in surprise, as if every word from his mouth was preposterous.
Sirius shrugged. "Not really," he admitted. "But as far as I understand, we're stuck here."
"Well, my friend Marley told me to walk in here with a Donald Trump hat and a Black Lives Matter shirt to confuse the hell out of them," Lily said firmly. "But my other friend Angela is certain if I tell everyone that I believe in the death penalty, they'll send me home."
"Interesting."
"She's convinced they'll let me go on grounds of insanity."
Sirius liked talking to her; she had a sharp sense of humor. "I hear the hospital down the road is quite nice. Padded walls and such."
Lily shrugged at his teasing. "Gotta stay committed to the role."
Sirius barked a laugh. "Commit to a role?" he motioned to her black leggings and university sweater. "The only role you're committed to right now is being a lethargic college student."
Lily stuck her tongue out. "Do you have any better ideas? I'm open to anything."
"Sleep with the judge?" Sirius waggled his eyebrows suggestively.
Lily slammed her back against the seat in despair. "I'd seriously consider it."
Sirius laughed and then lightly kicked at Lily's ankles. "I'll let him know."
"Thanks, pal," Lily laughed, as if finding Sirius amusing and not in any way honest.
"In fact," Sirius pulled out his phone, "I'll text him right now."
"Yeah," Lily rolled her eyes, "Because you have Judge Judy on speed dial."
"His name is James, actually," Sirius didn't miss a beat, "And he's my roommate."
Lily eyed him, waiting for his expression to give into her scrutiny. "You're bluffing."
Sirius didn't say anything; he was too busy texting on his phone. Once he'd finished the text and hit send, he flashed the screen right at Lily's green eyes.
SB: James, one of the jurors just told me she's willing to sleep with you to get out of jury duty.
Her forehead furrowed as she read his text, and then she laughed. "Is he attractive?"
Before Sirius could answer, the woman called over the loudspeaker, "Alright, the judge has called for jurors. We will be calling you by the numbers on your badge, and this is a sample size of forty."
There was a collective groan from around the room. Lily crossed her arms moodily and looked at her badge for her number.
"I'm 147," she said, looking at Sirius. "What about you?"
Sirius flipped his badge in her direction. "213."
"What are the chances of us getting called together?" she whispered as the woman started calling out numbers.
"45! 67!"
Slowly, people began filing towards the door at the back of the room.
"Jesus, it's like the damn Hunger Games in here," Lily hissed.
"Just waiting for someone to jump up and yell that they'll volunteer as tribute..." Sirius whispered back.
"I'd need to be thoroughly intoxicated, but hey, for the sheer amusement of it, count me in," she chuckled, her eyes gleaming mischievously.
"Absolutely, that would definitely add some much-needed excitement to our otherwise mundane confinement," he agreed with a grin.
Sirius couldn't help but admire Lily’s quick wit when she said out loud,  "I should've thought of sneaking in some vodka.”
At that moment, Sirius resolved to permanently befriend the clever redhead.
As the forty selected jurors were escorted out by vigilant security personnel, Lily and Sirius exchanged relieved glances. They breathed easier knowing their numbers hadn't been called during the drawing. Watching the jurors depart, they shared a knowing look, silently acknowledging the tension that lingered in the room.
"Can we leave now, then?" Lily asked.
Cheryl's annoying voice came over the intercom, "If you remain in the sitting area, please know we must keep everyone here until all the judge's needs have been met."
"Guess we're stuck here," she shot a glare at the front desk. "Fucking Cheryl.”
 Just then, Sirius' phone pinged.
JP: Tell her I at least need 2 take her 2 dinner first.
Sirius laughed and showed his screen to Lily.
Lily fake gasped as if shocked by James’ response, "How old-fashioned!"
SB: She says you're old-fashioned.
There was a reply almost instantly.
JP: Does she like old-fashioned?
Lily, reading over his shoulder, told Sirius, "Tell James I prefer my men in colonial wigs."
JP: Tell her I only wear the white wig when on stand.
Lily's laughter bubbled louder at Sirius' reply, and she reached out her hand, gesturing for his phone. Sirius gladly handed it over to the blushing woman, who appeared thoroughly amused by James' (admittedly weak) retorts. Her fingers danced across the screen as she typed away eagerly. James responded just as eagerly, causing the phone to buzz animatedly in her hands.
After what felt like an eternity, Lily tossed the phone back to Sirius with a satisfied grin. As he scrolled through the messages, a knowing smirk played at the corners of his lips.
SB: Hey Judge Judy, do you have the power to dismiss us from this Hell? - Lily
JP: Hello Lily. Unfortunately, I can't dismiss you unless you're picked.
SB: So now we have to HOPE we get picked?!
JP: I don't make the rules, I just enforce them. / If it makes you feel any better, you'll be paid for being here.
SB: Yeah, like, fifteen dollars.
JP: Maybe they'll buy you all lunch. / Probably not though, because our government has budget cuts.
SB: Aren't you supposed to be judging people right now, not ruining my hopes and dreams?
JP: Actually yes, but this attorney has been going on for literal hours about the color of someone's shoes, and I lost interest about three days ago, so I'm texting under my desk.
SB: Is that not against some judge's code of law or something?
JP: Probably, but I don't always follow the rules.
SB: And they let you be a judge?
JP: A surprise to all, including my professors.
"Well, I have to say," Sirius looked up at Lily, who was reading something on her own phone now that she’d passed his back, "James hasn't held a conversation with a girl this long in a while."
"Not the conversation type?" she hummed, not looking up from her phone.
"He's more the 'kiss don't tell' type," Sirius commented slyly, seeing her neck turn red at the suggestion.
"He just told me that you're the 'kiss don't tell' type," Lily looked up with a smirk.
Sirius frowned, "Wait, are you texting him?"
Lily sniggered and showed her phone screen. Sirius' jaw dropped when he saw that she had her text open to a certain chat with a contact named ‘Judge James’.
Sirius rubbed his eye, trying not to laugh again. "You really labeled him as Judge James?"
"I considered Judge Judy," she crossed one leg over the other casually, "but he convinced me otherwise."
Sirius ran his fingers through his long black hair in disbelief, "I can't believe you got his number."
"Sent it to myself, didn't I?" Lily grinned as she turned her phone back so she could reply to whatever text had just come in. "I had to ask him if he was a Republican or Democrat."
"Politics?" Sirius mused, "Interesting topic."
"I'm not going to have sex with someone who voted for Trump."
"You want to have sex with the judge, Evans? I'm appalled."
"You're the one who suggested it," Lily replied as she kept texting. "Don't worry, I've bargained for your freedom from Jury Duty in the contract."
"There's a contract?" Sirius couldn't believe how much Lily and James had spoken about in the last forty minutes.
"According to him," Lily replied as she smiled at a meme James had sent her.
The woman from the front desk came over the intercom, and the noise in the room quieted considerably. Lily even dropped her phone screen from her face.
"We've just received news from one of our judges, and he might have needed another juror group around one in the afternoon. Now would be the time to get some lunch. Please be aware that if you drive out of the parking garage, you will be subject to fees pertaining to parking. It is our suggestion that you go to one of the restaurants on this street."
"So we can't drive," Lily groaned. "I guess I'll go to the Subway down the road and have a bland sandwich."
"Nah," Sirius stood up and stretched. "Let's go to the bar."
Lily's interest peaked. "A bar?"
"You did say you'd like to get drunk before volunteering as a tribute for the Hunger Games," he reminded her.
"I mean, I won't say no to getting a drink or two."
"It's a date."
"Will James be on lunch then as well?" she asked as she stood up.
Sirius shrugged. "It depends on his case."
"What is his case?" Lily asked as she and Sirius made their way out of the tiny room and down a set of stairs.
"Probably murder," Sirius griped. "Old lady killed her husband after he offended her cat Mr. Snuffles."
"Poor Mr. Snuffles," Lily sighed dramatically. "He didn't stand a chance."
Lily walked ahead, smiling at everyone they passed politely. Sirius felt totally relaxed around her, like they’d been friends for ages and not just a few hours. That didn’t normally happen, not with him at least. Sirius' phone went off again, and he checked it with interest.
JP: So really, how pretty is she? Because right now, based on her texts, I'm in love.
SB: Discernibly average.
JP: Sirius.
SB: James.
JP: This case is taking forever. I should get lunch. Where are you headed?
SB: A bar. She's a riot and wants to get drunk.
JP: She said you dared her. / I bet she’s so pretty. / What color are her eyes?
SB: Ugly
JP: I hate you.
"Sirius, what's the bar called?" Lily pulled Sirius away from his phone.
They stepped outside into the cool October air, with Lily standing there, her phone in her hands as she tried to navigate directions around the courthouse. Other jurors on lunch strolled around them. Lily's red hair fluttered in the wind, and her eyes sparkled, full of life. At that moment, Sirius knew that when James finally met this woman, he'd be a fool not to fall in love. Sirius decided to make himself comfortable around his best friend's future girlfriend.
"I dunno, Evans," he complained. "That's what Google Maps is for."
Lily stood there for a few more moments, typing into her phone. "James says there's a bar on Mayberry and Castle."
"Let's go then," Sirius motioned for Lily to lead the way.
Lily gave a pretty little cheer before heading towards the pillars that led to the streets. Apparently, she had been downtown enough to know where the streets were. She led Sirius about a block away from the courthouse and through a short alleyway. A small bar called Thickens sat between a beauty parlor and a convenience shop. Lily opened the wooden door, and the smell of cigarettes and cinnamon wafted over Sirius as he entered the dimly lit bar.
Once they had their drinks, Sirius eyed the red-haired woman with interest. "So, tell me about yourself, Evans."
Lily took a swig of her cider. "Well," she said with pursed lips, "I grew up an hour south of here in a small town, hated it there, and moved away."
"What a great story," Sirius faked astonishment. "Lifetime movie material."
Lily smirked. "You got a better one, Black?"
Sirius nodded solemnly. "I was disowned by my super conservative family for refusing an arranged marriage to my second cousin, dropped out of school due to depression, and relocated here to be with my best mate."
Rather than pulling away from Sirius, like most people did, Lily leaned in closer. "Sounds like you've had a rough time – but does your sibling despise you with every fiber of their being for no discernable reason?"
Sirius took up her challenge. "My younger brother Regulus didn't break free from the family like I did – he tragically passed away. Took his own life, actually. In his final words he blamed me for his misery."
She took another hearty swig of her drink. "Could've used a happier twist."
Sirius cracked his knuckles. "Well, I was adopted by my best friend's family, and we sing about rainbows and sunshine every night before bed, so I’m pretty happy now."
"What a charmed existence," Lily remarked, her sharp green eyes holding a depth of intelligence Sirius rarely encountered.
“I bet your life is all butterflies,” Sirius surmised, playfully nudging her to give up her story.
Lily looked at the ceiling before sighing and stating out loud, "My father passed away four months ago, my sister disowned me for apparently killing him, and just last week, my cat Argus met his end after darting out and being struck by a bus."
Sirius had to hand it to this girl, she was not shy, nor was she afraid of judgments. She’d be the perfect match for James, and made the perfect friend to help Sirius gang up on James with.
"Are we in a contest for the most miserable life?" Sirius sloshed his drink in his cup to ‘cheers’ her.
"No, just bonding over our shared trauma," Lily offered with a wink.
"That's more like it."
She lightly touched his arm with her bottle. "And what about James?" she asked playfully. "Is he the epitome of perfection?"
"He snores like a freight train and has a penchant for fast cars," Sirius replied. "Not exactly my cup of tea."
Sirius laughed as she took another swig. "Cheers."
Lily requested another cider, having polished off her first. Both of them sat staring at the screens, lost in their own thoughts. Sirius often utilized his tales to dissuade others, and it was rare for anyone to stick around. Yet James had stayed. Remus had stayed. Peter had stayed until he found something more enticing. And now, this girl—this randomly selected girl in jury duty—didn't even flinch when he recounted his story. Sirius downed his whiskey as Lily concluded her second cider.
"Keep pace, Black," she teased.
He arched an eyebrow at her. "I challenge you to try and outdrink me."
"I never back down from a challenge," Lily winked as she lowered the bottle from her lips. "If I'm going to endure another six hours in that infernal jury room, I might as well have some fun."
Sirius clinked his glass with hers. "This marks the beginning of a splendid friendship, Evans."
Lily had no objections to that. "We should play a fun drinking game to celebrate this momentous friendship."
"How much fun are you thinking?" Sirius asked.
"Take a sip for every time your family has let you down?" Lily proposed.
"I'd be drunk really quickly if we used those rules."
"Me too," Lily raised her bottle in his direction. "Cheers to that."
He finished his whiskey and downed three more, a testament to Sirius's renowned tolerance for alcohol. Meanwhile, Lily, slightly tipsy and giggly, leaned on Sirius's arm as they made their way back to the courthouse. She looked at the world with a contented sigh, expressing her joy at the strangest things. She was like a breath of fresh air, as much as he loved hanging out with his other friends. Sirius didn't have too many friends who were girls, in fact.
"I'm so happy we crossed paths," she declared, "And I plan on charming your best friend to help us out of this situation."
Sirius chuckled, guiding her through the courthouse door. "You think flirting with a judge might get us kicked out?"
"It'd be a relief," Lily replied as they ascended the staircase to the jury room, "Considering I've been trying to flee since seven thirty this morning when Cheryl had us singing the national anthem."
"I challenge you to sing it again, but this time to Cheryl," Sirius proposed.
"Really?" Lily whispered, briefly checking her reflection on her phone screen.
"They might actually send you packing," Sirius mused.
"I'm game," Lily affirmed, determination flashing across her features. "Anything to escape this place, but you're coming with me."
Sirius couldn't suppress his laughter as she broke free from his embrace and twirled up the stairs. Her red hair billowed behind her, and she collided with a messy-haired boy in black robes and thick glasses. Sirius recognized him instantly, though Lily and James were strangers to each other.
James caught Lily's shoulders, steadying her with a half-smile. "You alright?"
"Oops, sorry!" Lily giggled, withdrawing from James's grasp and dancing excitedly down the hall toward Cheryl. "Let's go, Sirius, we're getting kicked out of jury duty!"
"Right behind you, Evans!"
James Potter turned to see Sirius striding confidently, while Lily charged ahead, oblivious to the fact that she had just bumped into Judge James without a second glance. James ran his fingers through his hair, further tousling the black curls as he watched Sirius and then Lily disappear down the corridor.
"Is that—" James began.
"Indeed it is," Sirius confirmed as he passed James to join Lily.
"Fuck me, she's gorgeous," came James' less than eloquent reply.
As Sirius followed Lily into the jury room, he couldn't believe his eyes. Lily wasn't just walking in, she was belting out the national anthem at the top of her lungs. Sirius was beside himself with laughter as the entire room turned to watch Lily make her grand entrance, serenading the women at the front desk. Cheryl, in particular, looked utterly mortified as Lily proudly delivered the country's anthem with unexpected gusto and bursts of laughter.
"Oooooh, say can you see, by the dawn's early light!" Lily's rendition sounded like a distressed whale.
Sirius couldn't fathom how he ended up in jury duty with this wild woman, but he was grateful nonetheless, thoroughly entertained as Lily sang directly in front of Cheryl, sporting wide arms and a terrible dance.
"Ma'am, please, have a seat!" Cheryl pleaded. "What on Earth are you doing? Someone, call security!"
"Damn," Sirius chuckled, still unable to contain his amusement, as he reached out to gently pull Lily away from Cheryl's murderous glare. "I can't believe you actually went through with that dare."
"I never back down from a dare," Lily declared before glaring at Cheryl. "Can we go, please?"
Cheryl stood up, shaking her finger at Lily and Sirius. "You can't leave until all the judges' needs have been fulfilled."
Lily glared unhappily at Cheryl. "You fetch Judge James, Cheryl, and I'll ensure his 'needs' are taken care of."
Sirius doubled over, struggling to contain his laughter. James would surely be in stitches when he hears about Lily's drunken declaration of fulfilling his needs.
"Are you intoxicated?" Cheryl implored, eyes wide with horror.
"Me? Intoxicated?" Lily chuckled, shooting Sirius a mysterious glance. "Not at all."
"She's definitely drunk," Cheryl pointed out to someone entering behind Sirius.
"I only had, like, two beers," Lily countered as security brought out a Breathalyzer. "That's hardly enough to get me wasted."
"Please, escort her out," Cheryl pleaded with security. "She's disrupting the proceedings for everyone!"
Sirius couldn't agree less; the room was either erupting in laughter or capturing Lily's antics on their phones. She had the entire room on her side, some people were even asking if they could leave too. Sirius had a sneaking suspicion that Lily might be able to get anyone to do what she wanted, she just had a certain charisma to her that most people dreamed about having.
Undeterred, Lily continued, "Cheryl, listen. I'm all for the death penalty, so you might as well send me home—"
Cheryl motioned to the security guard, who seemed perplexed by Lily's behavior. "Come on, remove her from here!"
"Only a judge can dismiss a juror," the security guard reminded Cheryl, pointing out the rule she was so keen on enforcing.
"I want her out of my jury room!" Cheryl demanded. "She's mocking our national anthem, she's threatening to prostitute herself out of jury duty, and she's drunk!"
Sirius really couldn't keep a straight face as he pulled out his phone to contact James as quickly as humanly possible.
SB: James, your future girlfriend is going to get arrested.
JP: Someone just came into my courtroom complaining about a drunken woman in the jury room. Please tell me it was her.
SB: I mean, it would've been fine, but then I dared her to sing the national anthem to everyone in the room and she did it.
JP: I'm going to marry this girl.
Sirius looked up from his phone to see Lily struggling against the hold of a policeman, her green eyes narrowed with frustration. He immediately turned to the woman at the front desk, Cheryl.
"Hey," he beamed dramatically, using all the Sirius Black charm he could muster. "So, my friend there isn't drunk. I swear. I dared her to sing to you. No harm meant. It was just for a bit of laughs."
"It won't be so funny when she's facing fines or jail time," Cheryl warned.
Lily let out a derisive snort. "Relax, Cheryl."
Sirius turned away from the desk to shoot Lily a disapproving glare, finding her lack of cooperation exasperating. Meanwhile, Lily was growing increasingly agitated with the security guard attempting to administer a Breathalyzer test. Sirius had little doubt that if they managed to get a reading, Lily wouldn't come out sober. Hell, he wouldn't either.
"You have no evidence that I'm intoxicated!" Lily snapped, her nose wrinkling with frustration. "We were just trying to pass the time because we've been stuck here all day!"
"Please, blow into this breathalyzer, Miss," the officer insisted, appearing as though he'd rather be anywhere else.
Join the club , Sirius thought.
"No way!" Lily exclaimed, pushing the breathalyzer away from her mouth. "I won't give you ammunition to use against me in court."
Suddenly, the double doors swung open again, and Sirius felt a surge of relief at the sight of James entering. Cheryl seemed relieved too, but James's attention was solely focused on Lily, his eyes brimming with joy. Sirius marveled at how James hadn’t even officially met the girl and was already getting heart-eyes like right out of a comic book.
"Alright, alright, what's happening here?" James interjected as he approached from the staircase, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "I came up here to dismiss everyone from jury duty, and now there's all this commotion about some drunken escapade. Where was my invite to the party?"
"She won't breathe into the breathalyzer, Your Honor." The policeman motioned in frustration to Lily, who had her arms crossed and mouth squeezed shut like a child at the dentist.
"Why does she need to be breathalyzed?" James asked.
"We believe she's been drinking." Cheryl stated firmly, glaring at Lily with all her power.
"But you have no proof?" James noted, shrugging nonchalantly.
"She was just singing the national anthem at the top of her lungs." Cheryl deadpanned, “and you want to tell me she’s sober?”
"I'm actually just really super patriotic," Lily muttered resentfully, and Sirius had to clamp a hand over his mouth so that he wouldn't laugh out loud again.
The same couldn't be said for James, who laughed out loud at Lily's cheek. "She has a point," James said to the police officer with a chortle. "It's not illegal to sing the national anthem."
"She smells like the bar," the officer said pointedly.
"I smell like cheap beer and disappointment too.” James said, tilting his head dangerously, “You want to breathalyze me?"
"Of course not, Your Honor," the police officer said irately. "But you wouldn't show up to a courthouse drunk."
"That you know of," Lily hissed loudly enough for everyone to hear, staring at her fingernails, not quite realizing which judge was standing before her.
"Miss, we can't have drunks running around the courthouse," the policeman hissed. "Please just—"
"Let me talk to the offender," James ordered in his deep tone, reminding Sirius how menacing James could be when he tried.
"Alright then." The policeman motioned for James to proceed, releasing his grip on Lily's elbow.
Sirius observed as James turned towards Lily, a smile spreading across his face. James stuffed his hands into his robes, wearing the goofiest grin imaginable before coyly greeting, "Hello, Lily."
Lily's eyes widened, and her complexion paled. "Shit."
Sirius wished he could etch every moment of this day into his memory, especially the look on Lily's face when she realized who the judge was.
James's hazel eyes danced with playful amusement. "Yes, it's me, Judge James."
"Judge... James?" Lily's surprise was palpable.
James inclined his head towards Lily, causing her cheeks to flush once more. "Pleasure to finally make your acquaintance," he said, offering his hand to her. "I'm the one who upholds the rules around here."
Lily hesitated, eyeing his outstretched hand. "Well, I'm in trouble now."
"And why is that?" James asked, a hint of amusement evident in his voice.
"Because you're hot," Lily quipped, a mischievous smirk gracing her lips as she finally accepted his handshake. “Got any handcuffs?”
James snorted, but Sirius could tell he was pleased by the compliment. "You don't have to butter me up, Evans. I'm letting you off the hook."
"Your Honor, she's clearly inebriated," the security guard interjected anxiously. "That goes against the code—"
James cut him off. "it's not just her, all these people are released from jury duty."
Lily let go of James’ hand and danced in place. "What? You're serious? We’re free?"
"You're released from jury duty," James confirmed with a nod. "You can go."
"Finally," Lily sighed happily, turning to Sirius with a triumphant look. "And I didn't even have to sleep with the judge!"
"I really hope that's not ruled out completely," James remarked shrewdly, earning an aghast look from the security guard.
"Not completely," Lily shrugged. "But I thought you had to take me to dinner first."
Before James could respond, Lily (who was most definitely drunk off her ass) grabbed a fistful of James' robes and kissed him squarely on the mouth. For a second James remained motionless, and then he responded in full, his hands gathering up in her hair to anchor Lily to his lips. Cheryl almost had a heart attack when she came out around the desk to find Lily wrapped up in James' arms. And James was thoroughly enjoying it. All Sirius knew is that James took entirely too long "walking Evans back to her car" after they’d finished swapping spit.
James faced repercussions from his boss for delaying an unresolved court case.
Lily was reprimanded for causing a scene and was slapped with a fifteen-dollar fine.
Sirius successfully dodged jury duty and found the entire outcome enjoyable.
Plus, Sirius had gotten another friend out of it.
A week later, Lily and Sirius sat at the kitchen table engrossed in a fierce game of Monopoly, determined to outmaneuver each other, when James returned home from work. He hung his bag on the back of Lily's chair and leaned down to plant a kiss on her cheek. Sirius made a show of gagging before making his move in the game, eliciting a string of curses from Lily directed at his family name.
Sirius just flipped her off and took more of her money in the process.
“I love you both.” James chuckled at their playful banter before slipping his arms around her frame and planting his chin on her skull like a headrest.
"So, still gainfully employed?" Lily inquired, Sirius knew she was legitimately concerned that her antics might have jeopardized James’ job.
"Nah," James replied. "I'm the only one there who actually cares about the cases. They can't afford to let me go, despite Cheryl's complaints."
"What does that woman have to complain about," Lily remarked as she navigated her way around the Monopoly board.
"Cheryl, swears she witnessed you 'assaulting' James…” Sirius teased Lily, kicking her lightly under the table.
“Yeah cause I was,” Lily said proudly, “with my mouth."
"Cheryl was way out of line with that accusation," James stated with a roll of his eyes. "It was quite evident that I was reciprocating the assult. 100% consensual assault of the mouths."
Lily leaned into James's touch. "It's not my fault that I'm utterly irresistible."
"Yeah, that would've held up in court," Sirius said, watching as James nibbled Lily's neck unashamedly. "God, you two are like lovebirds. It's nauseating."
Lily winked at Sirius as she tilted her head for James to get better access to her bare skin. "Feel free to leave."
"And let you have sex on our kitchen table?" Sirius rolled his eyes. "Absolutely not."
"You two are iconic now, you know," James told them, pure joy practically bouncing off him. "Cheryl has taken to warning every juror that enters the courtroom that there will be no drinking before, or during, jury duty."
"Why does she feel she has the right to tell people not to drink?" Lily asked with a self-righteous shrug.
James hummed. "Apparently, you're supposed to serve your time in court sober."
"I bet she says you shouldn't sleep with the judge either," Lily mocked, looking up at James and batting her eyes.
"Probably, but I don't always follow the rules," James said, kissing her full on the mouth.
When he pulled back, Lily was beaming.
"And they let you be a judge?" she teased him, running her fingers through his black hair.
To Sirius, James had never looked happier in his entire life. "For some reason, they deemed me trustworthy."
Sirius swallowed a bit of whiskey before reminding the couple, "Don't forget the sorry bastard who introduced you two."
He wasn't sorry, not at all, especially when they all walked down the street to a Chinese takeout forty minutes later. Lily had one arm in James' embrace and her other arm wrapped around Sirius as they discussed what movie they were going to watch over dinner. They would joke about ‘The Incident’ for years after, the story always becoming more melodramatic with each theatrical retelling. It was Sirius’ favorite story to tell, and he recited it at their wedding two years later.
“And it all started because I got called to jury duty…”

“All right, listen up folks,” bellowed the short snappy figure of your boss, “it’s gonna get a lot busier starting today since a lot of the member's kids are coming home on break from boarding school and university and whatnot, so that means not only will there be more people to keep happy but also a lot of stressed-out parents who await the luxury that they are paying for. I expect you all to be on you’re A-game, is that clear?”
“Yes, Mr Barrett,” echoed throughout the room like a choir.
“Good. Now get back to work everyone!”
Just as the herd started to thin, Mr Barrett waved you over before you had a chance to slip out, “Y/l/n!”
Watching your work friends duck out before he could call upon them as well, you gave in to the newly formed reflex and said, “yes sir?”
Not lifting his eyes as you stepped closer, he kept them glued to the clipboard in his hand and ordered, “go restock all the bars.”
“Um, why? Didn’t Tim just do it last Monday?”
“He did,” Mr Barrett finally glance up at you and explained sternly, clearly already being over this conversation, “and now I’m telling you to go do it again. Look, these folks' kids are coming home. So, trust me when I tell you that it needs to be fully stocked.”
“Alright,” you exhaled and scurried out at the irked wave of his hand.
You hadn’t been working here at the Millington club for that long, but even when you consider the fact that you had to mosey up to a bunch of insufferable rich folk, the paycheck was still a lot better than any other place you’d ever worked at, consequently making it tolerable.
Now balancing a heavy cardboard box jam-packed with various clanking liquor bottles, you made your way through the glamorous halls of the club, first making your way down towards the east side lounge. Glancing down at the clinking flasks, you couldn’t even begin to calculate how many months of rent you would have to give for even just one of these lavish drinks.
As you entered the posh sitting room and made your way over towards the bar, a collection of rowdy voices caught your ear.
“No way, I don’t believe it.”
“No, I’m telling you, mate,” you sat the box down on the marble countertop and glanced over to spot the young raven-haired man answering his friends, “it’s true, right there in the library.”
“What genre was it in?” one of the two young men asked. They were all three spread out on a few small queen Anne couches, clustered in the corner, as if they owned the whole establishment, “biography? That corner’s pretty private…”
“Um, I was a little too preoccupied to notice,” the cocky boy scoffed, “you know, with my head being all the way under her skirt and all.”
Kicking his feet up onto the mahogany coffee table in the middle, the bespeckled one in the group chuckled, “only you mister I lost my virginity in a threesome could just casually have that happen to him on a Tuesday afternoon.”
“Who was it with anyway?” the other one asked.
Furrowing his brows, the man in the centre of the story genuinely didn’t seem to remember, “I think her name was Emma? Something like that.”
“Didn't your mother tell you it’s creepy to stare?” you flinched at the sudden and sneaky arrival of your co-worker’s familiar voice, uttering directly into your ear.
“Jesus fuck, Lucy! Don’t scare a girl like that! I could have dropped one of these,” you held up the expensive bottles in hand, then swiftly went back to putting them away.
“Please don’t tell me you have a thing for him,” she ignored your annoyance, crossing her arms.
“What?” was she referring to the brash handsome man you couldn’t rip your eyes away from just a second ago? “No! I don’t even know who he is.”
“Wait, you don’t know who that is?
“No.”
“Seriously?”
“Nope.”
“That’s Sirius Black,” she told you as if the name alone was common knowledge, but then continued as the lightbulb over your head clearly didn’t turn on, “Orion Black’s oldest son?” still nothing, she tried one last time, “as in the Black automobile company? That super old posh one?”
“…the one that the royal family drives around in?”
“Ding, ding, ding!” she threw up her arms and continued to look at you as if you were an idiot.
“Alright, so even though I’m not, why is it that it would be such a bad thing if I theoretically had a thing for him?”
“Because that man right there, gorgeous as he might be, is the biggest playboy on the planet. He doesn’t even know what the definition of a relationship is, let alone love. Y/n, I know you. You, my wonderful friend, is a relationship type of girl, not a casual sleep-around like it’s nothing type of girl. So, trust me when I say, don’t go there.”
“I wasn’t gonna!” you said defensively as she finally turned around and left you to your work.
Bending down to open up a small cabinet, you kneeled on the polished hardwood floor and scurried to finish your work of restocking the bar.
“Hey love,” you heard after only a minute had passed. Glancing up, you saw the very same man you had been so fixated upon earlier, casually leaning his forearm against the counter. He looked like he could have just stepped out of a ralph lauren ad with how impeccable his clothes were.
Shooting up, nearly bumping your head on the way, you felt your heartbeat pick up as his dark eyes bored into you, “hi! Can I help you with anything?”
“Me and my mates over there were just about to go do something a little more fun than what this snooze fest has to offer,” he gesticulated, then added rather smoothly, “you look like you could use some fun, you should join us.”
“Sir, I can’t just leave,” you cocked your head, “I’m in the middle of my shift.”
“So, when do you get off?” he asked, but then as you simply averted your gaze, scrambling for a polite way to untangle yourself from this mess, he pushed, “oh, come on, I know you want to.”
Keeping your eyes low, you shook your head, “I’m not really supposed to socialise with members.”
“Ah,” he leaned in a little closer, lowering himself to your eye level, “you’re a real good girl, aren’t you?”
Eyes growing wide at his suggestive word choice, you blushed, “e-excuse me, sir?”
“I noticed the way you were looking at me,” his studying gaze didn’t waver for a second.
“Oh, that wasn’t-“
“Don’t worry, I won’t tell if you won’t.” He then leaned in even closer, “hey,” nearly whispering into your ear and effectively sending shivers down your spine, “if it fits your schedule better, we could just go into the billiard room right now…”
“Why would we-“
“My friends can stand by the door if you’re nervous,” he interrupted once more, reaching up to push a lock of your hair behind your ear, “no one will bother us, promise.”
Completely stunned by his bold proposal, it took you a few seconds to decline, “sir. I-… I’m gonna go back to work now…” then slowly picked up the now empty cardboard box and exited the room, leaving Sirius alone to pick up the pieces.
Tumblr media
“She’s new… I want her.”
That was all Sirius had uttered to his friends before making his way over to hit on the new girl, occupied restocking the bar.
Now standing there, alone and blinking hard, not understanding why his usual charm hadn’t worked on you, he heard his friends come up behind him.
“How did it go? You meeting her in the bathroom or what?”
“She turned me down…” he was still frozen, staring out the door you’d disappeared through, with a stunned smile on his lips and a determent glint in his eyes. His words didn’t sound unhappy, simply surprised and even a little amused.
“That’s nice, good for your health to be turned down by a pretty face such as hers. Also means you are in fact human after all,” Remus pulled out his box of cigarettes and swiftly tugged one into the corner of his lips to lite it, “so, that’s nice to know…” noticing the look in Sirius’s eye, “come on,” he wrapped an arm around his neck, “we’ll just go out tonight. Get you nice and pussy drunk. That’ll make you forget her in no time, promise.”
Tumblr media
“Funny seeing you here,” you didn’t even bother to look up as the slightly familiar voice found your ears.
“Yeah,” you kept your eyes on the list in your hand just a little longer, “it’s almost like I work here or something.”
Finally glancing up, you met the intoxicatingly dark eyes of none other than Sirius Black, “you’re funny…”
“So,” you started moving along, not letting his bugging hold you back from executing your work, “is there anything I can do for you, sir?”
His long legs made it a piece of cake for him to follow along with you, “go out with me.”
Stopping your stride, you sighed, “Mr Black-”
“Please, call me Sirius,” he interrupted you with all the charm in the world.
“Mr Black, excuse me for being blunt but when will you get the hint?”
Tumblr media
“Y/n, hey!”
This dude really doesn’t quit.
“You know my name now,” you couldn’t stop your eyes from rolling even if you wanted to.
“Yeah, well I asked around a bit about you. That was just one of the many tantalising facts I learned about you,” he winked, and you tried your best to ignore the butterflies that cheap trick had successfully sent fluttering throughout your stomach.
Moving to leave the room, he swiftly blocked the door, making you see nothing but his annoying smirk, “seriously dude, what will it take for you to just leave me alone?”
“Go out with me,” he shrugged lightly and crossed his arms.
“No.”
“Why not?”
Feeling like you might explode if he didn’t get out of the way, you exclaimed, “because I’m not I’m not gonna sleep with you!” your eyes grew a bit wider at the proclamation you’d let slip out.
“Oh really?” he simply smiled, clearly just taking it as another challenge.
Squeezing your eyes shut, you hoped that the conversation would get less uncomfortable if you couldn’t see his jaw-dropping visage anymore, “yeah, I’ve heard what people say about you.”
Completely loving it, he clearly took that as a good thing, “really?”
“Yeah, well it’s like a fucking ghost story around here, so I didn’t have much of a choice. You’re just that kind of guy and that’s fine! But you just need to know, all that charm, it won’t work on me, so you might as well just turn around now. I am not just gonna be another notch in your belt, another hot new little thing for you to pass the time with, okay?”
Eyes still shut, you thought for a second he had left with how long he took to answer you, “okay, fine.”
“Fine?” you finally blinked your eyes open.
“Fine,” he smiled, “I won’t sleep with you.”
“Great!” you threw up your arms and moved to exit the room, though he stepped in front of you again, leaning down to be at your height.
“I mean, it’s probably gonna be really hard for you to resist after the date I’ve got planned out, but sure, if you don’t want to.”
Gnawing the corner of your bottom lip for but a moment, you gave out, “if I say yes to go on a date with you, one date, will you leave me alone?”
Face only inches from your own, his smile grew wider as he agreed, “deal.”
Tumblr media
“Mr Black! Welcome back, sir,” not only the security guard but also an older gentleman in a crisp suit had greeted you both at the entrance of the unusually vacated museum, “enjoy your evening.”
“Thank you, Henderson,” Sirius politely shook his hand before planting it on the small of your back, guiding you further inside.
Glaring up at him as if he was an alien, he finally questioned your gaze, “what?”
“What are we doing in here?” you spoke in a near whisper, “the museum closed like 2 hours ago.”
“Yeah, well,” he shrugged, climbing the big stone steps that lead up towards the first exhibit, “my family’s a big donator to this place, so I just pulled a few strings.”
Fighting the urge to roll your eyes, you simply followed him into the first breathtaking room and breathed out, “okay…”
Even if the company was somewhat challenging, you couldn’t deny how the beauty hung up all around you made the evening at least tolerable. Your little art heart was too weak not to swoon at the sight of all the impressionistic pieces that were on display in this season's unique exhibit. Iconic pieces you could have only dreamed about studying this close.
After a surprisingly long while where Sirius miraculously shut up and simply let you roam and relish in the paintings, you took a deep breath and decided to actually make the smallest of efforts to test if your companion did in fact have any more depth than a teaspoon.
“So,” you started as he settled in beside you, his dark eyes washing over the landscape in front of you, “you’re home from uni for a bit?”
“Yep,” he buried his hands in the pockets of his black trousers, “oxford.”
You felt so strong for not just bolting in the opposite direction. “You’re an oxford man?” you scoffed, “should have figured…”
“Like my father was and his father before him,” he added rather coldly, sounding like this was a rehearsed reply that pained him to recite.
“What do you study?”
“Business,” he kept his answer short.
“Oh yeah?” you glanced over, trying to break through and see if his outsides matched his insides, “is it fun?”
Brows furrowing, he turned to meet your gaze, “what does that have to do with it?”
“You don’t enjoy your major?”
“It’s just,” he inhaled deeply, uncomfortably trying to end this specific chat, “school, you know?”
“No, I actually don’t,” you informed him, slowly moving towards the next painting.
“No?” he followed.
“I don’t go to school,” you informed.
“You don’t?”
“No.”
“Oh, okay…” he averted his gaze, but still felt the need to explain his confusion, “I knew you liked art, so I just kinda assumed that you went to school for that or something…”
“Why bother paying a ridiculous amount of money in order to learn about something that I’m already really good at? No one is gonna deny me the right to create art just because I don’t have some fancy degree in it. If it’s a masterpiece, then it’s a masterpiece.”
“Yeah, I guess so…” you could tell how foreign your words were to him, “so that’s what you do for a living? You paint?”
“It doesn’t pay the bills, but that’s not really the point now is it?” you reflected with a small smile, “just because it’s what I do doesn’t mean I earn a large profit from it, if any at all.”
For a moment, he just went quiet, staring at the many paintings with a slightly glossed-over look in his eyes. You were trying to catch his glances, read what it was that was going on inside that head of his, but your timid attempt at finding a new topic to blossom suddenly became the most effortless task in the world the second that he casually rolled his sleeves all the way up to his elbows.
“Wait, you have tattoos?” tumbled out of you as soon as you spotted the ink.
“Yeah,” he gave a small shrug.
“How did I not know that?” you asked, sounding genuinely interested.
“Guess my pretty face was just a bit too distracting for you to notice,” he winked, regaining a bit of his usual confidence, “do you have any?”
“Yeah, a few. Though they’re just some stick-and-poke ones one of my friends gave me.”
“Aw, my first tattoo was a stick-and-poke one! I was 15 and it was at boarding school in the bathroom,” he remembered fondly.
“Oh yeah? Your parents must have loved that,” you chuckled.
“Oh, they don’t know.”
“Seriously?”
“Yeah, well, clothing can hide a lot and they only really see me a handful of days out of the year anyways, so… what they don’t know won’t hurt them.”
Maybe he wasn’t so terrible after all… After finding a sliver of common ground, the rest of the conversation just flowed after that, making the remainder of the evening not just tolerable, but even enjoyable.
Nearing the end of the tour, you felt his shoulder lightly bump yours, “you like it?” ripping you out of the trance the art piece in front of you had induced.
“I mean, it’s a Monet,” you gestured towards it, finding his question a bit silly, “I think it’s physically impossible not to like it.”
“Darling, I wasn’t talking about the painting,” he clarified, smiling warmly down at you.
“Oh,” you looked up at him and couldn’t help but be blatantly honest, even if it meant that you had been wrong, “yeah, I guess it wasn’t half bad…” then cast your vision back on the painted pond and added as casually as you could muster, “but we are so not doing anything like this next time.”
“Next time?”
“I swear to god,” you sighed, shutting your eyes, “if you don’t shut up in less than two seconds, I won’t hesitate to change my mind. You were just starting to grow on me.”
“Yes, ma’am, wouldnt dream of it, I’m just standing here, looking at the art,” you heard him smile and peeped your eyes open to find him boldly still staring at you.
Tumblr media
“You sure we’re allowed to be up here?” Sirius asked, following you up the last bit of the clinking metal staircase in the seemingly abandoned factory you’d without context dragged him into.
“Oh, don’t tell me that you're scared,” you playfully glanced over your shoulder at him, “doesn’t your daddy’s lawyer always bail you out of all the shady fun you and your friends get into?”
“Who exactly do you think we are?” he scoffed lightly, though didn’t deny your claim.
“So, you’ve never committed a petty crime before? A party animal like you?”
“I have never done anything wrong in my entire life,” he shot back sarcastically.
“Right you haven’t,” you chuckled, trying without success to bust open the rusty door, putting all your weight into it, “give me a hand, would you?” you requested breathlessly, his frame quickly following your command, stepping right up beside you, readying his shoulder and waiting for your go, “okay, one, two, three!” you both gave it a big shove, making it fly open and reveal not only the factory’s small, flat rooftop but also the most breathtaking view of the city’s skyline and the rabidly disappearing sun.
Seemingly not impressed by the dingy surroundings, Sirius grumbled, “now do I get to know what we are doing tonight?”
“No sense of adventure…” you sighed teasingly, “I’m not telling you, you’ll have to find out yourself,” you sauntered over towards the small ledge by the section of the roof that sunk down a bit and had a bunch of vents and things. Taking a seat, you gestured to the cold concrete beside you and said, “now, sit.”
“You want me to sit?” he eyed the dirty surface mistrustingly.
“Yeah,” you smiled, patting the spot with your fingers, “come on, you can sit on my jacket if you’re such a wuss.”
“Oh my god, fine, I’ll sit down,” he moved towards you, “just keep your jacket. Don’t want you to freeze to death.”
“You don’t? That’s reassuring to know,” you jested as he carefully took a seat beside you, dangling his long legs over the edge.
“So… this is your big plan?” he asked, completely unimpressed, “sit on a filthy rooftop together?”
“Don’t mock when you don’t even know what it is yet,” you raised a defensive hand and then proposed confidently, “now, ask me a question.”
Furrowing his dark brows, he bit his lip in order not to stifle a laugh, “a question?”
“Yeah, you’ve got 20, so use them wisely,” you explained the childish game.
“Oh my god…” he groaned as he caught on, although still played along, “okay, is it a thing?”
“Yes.”
His pristine hair blew in the wind as his eyes scanned the city below for clues, “is it big?”
“No.”
“Am I physically close to it?”
“Yes.”
“Can I see it?”
“No.”
“Okay, so it’s small and close by, but I can’t see it…” he recited underneath his breath, “is it, fuck, I don’t know,” he grumbled, both completely over the game yet also way too invested to just quit immediately, “your phone in your pocket?”
“Good one, but no!”
“Fuck, I don’t know! Am I even close?”
“You are closer than you might think.”
“Can I just get a little bit more of a hint?” he pouted in your direction.
“Fine, it is within a meter of you.”
Head whipping around confused, “um, that’s literally just you. Is it you? Are you really calling yourself a thing right now?”
“No!” you snapped, slightly offended that he’d even think that, “just use your imagination for fuck sake. Don’t they teach you that at boarding school and fancy universities?”
Letting out a long exhale, he just kinda zones out a moment, genially scrambling for the answer and scanning every visible inch of you. “…I truly don’t know,” he then squinted his eyes at you, “was this some sort of test? Did I fail it?”
“No, calm down,” you pulled your backpack around to the front, ripping the biggest compartment open and fishing out a bottle of bargain beer for the both of you, “here,” you handed him one.
“What is this, a price for losing?”
“No, that was the thing,” you placed the corner of the bottle’s cap up against the hard edge below you and gave it a swift tap, effectively popping it off and sending a lava flow of bubbles soaring down the dark glass and soaking your hand.
“This was it?” he hesitated, but eventually mimicked your manoeuvre to open the lacklustre beverage.
“Yep,” making the last letter pop as you raised the bottle up towards your lips.
“You’re terrible at twenty questions,” he chuckled, taking a small sip.
“You’re the one who couldn’t figure the answer out!”
“Yeah, because there was no way I was ever going to be able to figure that out! You can’t just be like Bilbo and ask for a person to guess what’s in your pocket, it has to be something the other person would be able to figure out.”
“That’s never how I played it, but if you wanna go again, play by your rules, then go right ahead, I’ll guess this time.”
After the last of the beers, you’d brought with you were a thing of the past, after several rounds of that child-like play had flown by, the harsh chime of his phone interrupted your guessing of what you were pretty sure was the small spire visible in the horizon before you.
Like a reflex, he fished it out of his pocket, and you watched as the soft smile quietly vanished from his features as if it had never been there to begin with, snuffed out and forgotten like last season’s fashion. It hadn’t been the first time you’d witnessed his phone be a mood killer, it happened at least once whenever he had been in your presence.
“What is it?” you asked, tossing the game to the side to make room for the growing concern you simply couldn’t ignore any longer.
“It’s nothing,” you watched his face twitch slightly as he read the message that plainly bothered him. Taking a deep breath, he tugged it away in his jacket and circled back to the quickly forgotten game, “you, um, still have 4 more questions till you run out-”
“Sirius,” you cut him off, determined to figure out what was troubling him, “who was that?” not giving you an answer, he simply averted his gaze. “I’m not gonna tell anyone, if that’s what you’re worried about. Who do you think I know that I could spill all of your deep dark secrets to? My neighbour Mary who’s about 90? Oh yeah, she would have a field day, if she actually remembers to put her hearing aid in,” you joked, in an effort to get him to relax and open up, “come on, you can tell me.”
After a good long moment of him thoroughly biting his inner cheek, he finally spoke, “it was my dad. He wanted to remind me that I’m supposed to start sitting in on meetings beginning by tomorrow. Start doing my part for the family business and finally grow up. He wants me to follow in his footsteps. And I know that it must sound fascinating, running a huge company like that, but it truly isn’t. It’s just a bunch of long boring meetings with boring money-hungry people talking about boring numbers. It has absolutely nothing to do with the cars themself.”
“And that’s not what you want?” you asked softly.
“That’s not the point,” he uttered, sounding downright exhausted.
“Isn’t it? Do you want to follow in his footsteps?”
Staring out into nothing, he slowly let the truth slip out past his lips, “no...” the tiny word instantly hitting him like a truck, “fuck. I’ve never actually said that out loud before… I don’t wanna do that… I don’t know what it is that I want to do, but I sure as hell know it isn’t that. I don’t wanna become another soulless businessman like my father.”
“Can I ask you something?” you asked him gently.
“Sure.”
“Why are you still studying business if you know that’s not what you wanna do?”
Exhaling heavily, “because I think what scares me even more than this future they’ve got all mapped out for me is the unknown. I don’t know what will happen if I hop off the train, but at least I know what it looks like inside and I know where it’s headed.”
Without giving it a second thought, you reached out and took his hand in yours.
“You’ll get off. Might not be today, but someday you will.”
A soft smile spread across his lips as the stressful thoughts slowly melted away with the aid of your touch and he turned his attention back to the date. “I gotta admit, this wasn’t at all what I expected.”
“What did you think? That I was gonna take you to dinner at a michelin restaurant? Some day you will learn that money can’t buy you everything. I mean, just look at that view,” you nodded towards the blushing skies above, the sun now nearly disappeared down behind the many roofs of the city.
“Yeah,” he breathed, not taking his eyes off of you for a second, “it’s beautiful.”
Not soon thereafter, when the dark night started to bloom and the date was due to end, you took him up on his adorably chivalrous offer and let him walk you back home. However, when you reached the outside of your building, he wasn’t the only one anymore that wasn’t ready to part ways yet. When you fumbled with the keys and he eagerly asked, “could I maybe walk you all the way in to your front door?” all you did was nod, because right now in this very moment, just one more minute of his charm was all you desired.
“Just what floor did you say you lived on?” he puffed from behind you once you’d reached the third floor of the old apartment building.
“I didn’t,” if you’d told him that you lived on the fifth floor, right underneath the roof in a tiny shoebox of an apartment, he properly wouldn’t have dared to climb the steep stairs with you. “And just because you're walking me to my door doesn’t mean you get to come inside, okay?”
“Got it.”
Even though he looked to be in phenomenal shape, you still noticed his attempt to hide how much of a tole this trek really was for him.
Once you finally reached the small dark door to your home, out of sight and out of mind down a narrow hallway, creaking it open, his eyes widened at the sight of your tiny apartment, “oh my god, that’s your apartment?” he didn’t even have to poke his head inside to be able to view every single millimetre, seeing as the whole flat in its entirety was probably the size of his bathroom.
“That’s my apartment,” you confirmed, not finding the size as jarring as he did.
“Is it even legal to live up here? Aren’t these attic rooms for storage or something?”
“They used to be, but now I promise it's totally above board.”
After letting out a small chuckle, he then took one last long look at you standing in the doorway, smiling warmly down at you, “I had a lot of fun tonight.”
“Yeah, me too,” you smiled, and when he then turned to take his leave, you stopped him, “hey Sirius?” still close, he turned around, “can I-, could I maybe-…”
Taking a step closer to you, he stared down at you and uttered, “what?”
“…can I kiss you?”
Not hesitating for even a second, probably just in case you would change your mind, Sirius bent down and boldly kissed you. The feel of his soft lips pressed against yours and his tongue confidently asking for entrance surprisingly didn’t increase your nerves, it minimised them. It felt oddly comfortable. Like you’d already done it a thousand times before.
“Goodnight,” he breathed out, lingering just a little longer.
“Night.”
Tumblr media
The persistent knocks at your door finally came to a screeching halt as you swung it open and revealed the unexpected figure of Sirius.
“I need to talk to you,” he insisted, sounding out of breath, probably having sprinted up the stairs.
Furrowing your brows at the less-than-warm greeting, you asked, “Sirius? What are you doing here? It’s 11 o'clock at night,” pushing past you, the small stumble he took as he crossed over the threshold didn’t manage to escape your perception, “hey, what’s going on?”
“Everything’s going on!” he bellowed, making you quickly close the door behind him and cross your fingers that the walls in your building weren’t as thin as you feared if he was going to continue at this dramatic volume.
Whirling around to plant his unfocused eyes on you, you saw right through him and asked, “are you seriously drunk right now?”
Fully ignoring your question, he sank down onto your small couch and spoke wearily, staring out into your dimly lit home, “you messed everything up.”
“Excuse me,” you crossed your arms and closed your light robe a bit more to cover your less then modest pyjamas up, on the verge of just ripping the door open again so that you could kick him out, “I haven't done anything-”
“You messed up everything!” his unsteady eyes finally met your glare, “everything was just fine before I met you, there was a plan, a good plan,” he gesticulated with his right hand, “I didn’t see any problem with the plan till you had to show up and turn it all upside down,” you felt your heart start to sink as his intoxicated words impacted, “you ruined it all. You ruined me. For the first time in my life, the world is a truly terrifying place. It’s never been that way till you showed up,” you noticed his clenched jaw begin to quiver, “you are like a bright light, showing me just how dark my life actually is. I didn't ask for that perspective! I was perfectly fine just wandering around in the dark!”
“Sirius,” you reeled back, completely stunned by the tornado that had just interrupted your evening routine, “what are you-”
“You scare the shit out of me, Y/n,” he exclaimed, cutting your question off before it could fully form, “no girl has ever done that, except for you. Fuck, I love you! That terrifies me!” he sank down even further, nearly laying down at this point, overwhelmed by the storm brewing between his ears, “but what scares me even more is the thought of losing you.”
Completely stunned, you found your body slowly dropping down upon the mattress of your bed, sitting there at a complete loss for words, flabbergasted as you watched his low groans and curses gradually fade away until you picked up on how his breaths had slowed, and his lids had grown heavy, exhaustion snuffing him out like a flame.
Tumblr media
Curled up on the windowsill, backlit by the morning sun, you raised your eyes from the sketchbook balanced on your bent knees, to reference the dark-haired man still passed out on your tiny couch.
Even after you’d not so silently riffled through your pantry this morning, checking to see if you had any resemblance of a hangover cure hidden away in there, he still slept like a baby, through all the crinkly bags and accidentally dropped containers.
Though now, as you weren’t really making any noise at all, simply emanating the silent scratching of your pen against paper, you saw him stir, inhaling sharply as he awoke.
“Morning sleepy head,” you tried to be mindful of your volume, the light wince your tone evoked from him clearly affirmed your suspicion of the horrible state the night before had put him in.
Craning his neck to look at you, he sat up, squinting in confusion as the bright morning light washed over him, “Y/n, what, um,” his voice sounded like it had been through a meatgrinder, “what am I doing here?”
“You don’t remember?” you sat the sketchbook down beside you but kept your seat in the window, merely shifted a bit.
“I-… Did something happen?” his palm lifted up to shield his mouth in worry, “did we-”
“Oh my god, no,” you got what he was hinting at and quickly cut in to correct him before your cheeks had a chance to turn an even brighter shade of red, “you showed up here last night, completely wasted.”
“Oh…”
“Yelled at me for a little bit and then you kinda just passed out.”
“Fuck…” he sighed, jaw clenching from guilt, “Y/n, I’m really sorry.”
“Yeah, you should be,” you crossed your arms tightly across your chest, “what even happened last night? Were you just at some club and randomly decided to come and shout at me a bit?”
“I wasn’t out,” he shook his head, still not meeting your eye, “I was at this stupid party with my family, some fundraiser I think, and became maybe a bit too pissed and got into an argument with my dad,” taking a deep breath in, he spoke, “I told him that I’m dropping out of school and that I don’t want to take over the company.”
“Oh…” it nearly came out as a whisper.
Taking shelter behind his hands, he lightly ran them down his face, “I’m really sorry,” he said earnestly, “I shouldn’t have bombarded you like that. I don’t remember what I said, but you don’t deserve any of it.”
Every word he had uttered the night before still played on a loop inside your mind, “…none of it?”
“No,” he finally met your gaze, “not one.”
Your churning stomach tried to prevent the words from flowing out, but your now fully bloomed feelings eventually prevailed as you found yourself asking him softly, “not even the part where you told me you love me?”

Why Short Sirius Black Mattered to Me
So I'm having some feelings about the whole "sirius black is tall" discussion that's circling my dash right now, and I don't want to comment on anyone else's posts with my *feelings* because it really doesn't relate to the actual factual information they're sharing, but I did want to put them out there.
At first I felt pretty defensive about how angry people seem over people headcanoning Sirius as shorter than Remus, and I am still taken aback by the level of anger/frustration being felt about this whole thing by some. But I am also a very logical person so I read the posts and I mean, the "sirius black is tall" people are not wrong. It is canon that Sirius is tall, I just read @pommedeplume's post about it that really laid it all out well and with the canon sources (thank you for doing that, btw), and yeah, it's just true. Sirius Black is canonically tall.
But I'm still finding that I feel hurt by the discourse around it (namely, the animosity toward the "short sirius black" idea), and I wanted to flesh that out a bit -- not because I'm trying to tell someone to change their thoughts/opinions/feelings, but just because, maybe this will offer some insight into why short Sirius Black is fanon and means something to some people.
I didn't always imagine Sirius as shorter than Remus, but personally, since returning to the fandom after transitioning to a trans man, I started imagining him as 5'10" (~178cm) or so and Remus as 6'1 (~185cm) or so, mainly because I started reading fics about Trans Sirius Black and they were just so...validating. Trans men try to make ourselves feel better about being shorter and not having dicks by calling ourselves "short king" or "tiny dick solidarity" or whatever, but frankly, it's incredibly dysphoric, especially as a gay trans man. It's intimidating and sucks to know that most of the guys I am attracted to and want to be with will be 5-7 inches (13-18cm) taller than me.
So there was something about picturing Sirius Black, who I already relate to as a person, being able to contain all of his big personality, all of his attractiveness, all of the things about him that make him so Sirius Black in a body that was simply an average height for a man. Not even my height! Just a height that didn't make him feel cosmically out of reach from me. And, really, that's often the driving force behind something that becomes fanon -- a thing that makes the character more relatable to the readers. Because 6'2" (188cm) Sirius Black is not a trans man (I mean, obviously some trans men are that tall, but...clearly that is VERY rare), and doesn't feel like he could be a trans man. And as someone who is a minority and doesn't get that representation ever, it's nice to feel like there are small things about the characters you love that mean that maybe they could be like you, too.
What I'm trying to say is - I think that short Sirius Black came from the queering of the marauder fandom, which as an older queer person who only recently came out, is really cool to see. I definitely don't agree with all of the fandom interpretations of characters that have come from this queering (i.e. femme sirius), but I'm also just...not gonna tell people how to view this character who might be helping them feel more safe and proud about their own identity. Short Sirius Black makes me feel less shitty about being a short guy. And seeing everyone be really pissed at the idea that Sirius Black is imagined by some people as short...hurts. At the end of the day, I know it's about just wanting to stick to canon, and I get that. I am that way about a lot of things. I just wonder if we can be more understanding of why people might be clinging onto what they want to believe is canon. Because I'll be honest, I'm disappointed to have read that it really is canon that he's a tall guy. I'm gonna change how I picture him and Remus (flip their heights basically), and I'll live. But I wonder, at what point can we say that sticking to canon is less important than letting people feel represented by their interpretation of a character?
