October Country
...that country where it is always turning late in the year. That country where the hills are fog and the rivers are mist; where noon go quickly, ducks and twilights linger, and midnights stay. That country composed in the main of cellars, sub-cellars, coal bins, closets, attics, and pantries faced away from the sun. That country whose people are autumn people, thinking only autumn thoughts. Whose people passing at night on the empty walks sound like rain...

Matthew Gray Gubler really has that spooky Tim Burton and Ray Bradbury vibe and I think he's so proud of it. If Halloween was a person, it would be him.

“Let me make it clear. People die every day, psychologically speaking. Some part of them gets tired.”
This book turned out to be much different than I expected. In a good way. I loved reading "The Lake" and "The Wonderful Death of Dudley Stone".

God okay. I’ve read quite a few horror novels this year but so far October Country is like, genuinely unnerving. The poetic language, the merging of body and psychological horror, the short well paced stories. It’s not pee your pants scary but it’s just spooky enough you find yourself wondering “should I be reading this so close to bedtime?”
