Writblr Introduction

I’ve seen so many writblr introductions that I wanted to do one!

P.S., it’s a long one.

So I got into writing (as a hobby, even though I’ve always loved creating stories as a kid) thanks to an old bully of mine in Swedish eighth grade. I wrote my first queer characters, in my first English WIP ever. It was a fanfic/AU of She-hulk and other Marvel characters, and of course I posted that bad boy on Wattpad and think it got 80k views over the year on something I’ve never finished. I remember being so nervous about making my FMC fall in love with another woman and for them to care for each other. In retrospect, it probably had to do a lot with trying to figure out my sexuality. But as soon as I did it I felt such relief, and I’ve never looked back on writing straight MCs.

But how does this connect with my writing journey and who I’m today? Well, I’m 23 yo, and my English is better, and that’s coming from someone who’s dyslexic, heck I think I can spell better and have a more advanced language in English than in Swedish which is ironic that it’s my native language. But genre wise nowadays, I write MM Romance in a bunch of different sub genres: romcom, fantasy/sci-fi, thriller, and a bit of horror. And ever since my disability progressed, I’ve tried to incorporate disability in my stories — have bad ass characters that just happen to limp. It’s not the end of the world and that’s what I wanna read.

Which is the most important thing I learned as a 16 yo kid posting on Wattpad and getting the social anxiety and burnout of posting there. Write for yourself. Write what you wanna read. Which has made me connect so much more with my stories and characters, especially when writing a WIP as RUINS OF DAWN and letting myself lean into the darkness I’ve always enjoyed as a kid.

But one of the negative things I know my bullying has affected me in is I know no one’s gonna care about what I write because I’m who I am. Because I’m me. And that’s why it took me so much time in to figure out that I can, and I’m allowed to send queries to agents. That just because I’m me doesn’t make it that anyone else who’s ace, queer, and/or disabled can’t connect with the characters and see a glimpse of themselves. Because that is what RUINS OF DAWN is for me. It’s a book for my 15 yo self that loved all the grimy and gory stuff, who was not feeling good or understood why I was feeling like this around people. Though RUINS OF DAWN is not for people under 18, but if I know myself, a bit of blood and spicy scenes wouldn’t have stopped me. My favorite and comfort movie is WARM BODIES. A damn zombie movie, though the books are more horrifying.

So what is RUINS OF DAWN then? Well, it’s the WIP I’m currently laying all my focus on getting done and ready for beta reading, and the one I’m gonna try to query.

RUINS OF DAWN is a dark sci-fi romance thriller, set in 1962 after the Cubs crisis has gone nuclear. It follows Ed Johnston, our Time manipulating protagonist who gets forced by the NTIA—an organization created by the President to watch supers (Psst, think of an organization corrupted like the TVA from LOKI)—to meet the Director, and where he meets his ex-lover the waiting room. It’s enemies-to-lovers, second chance with similar horror elements as Isaac Marion’s THE BURNING WORLD.

YES I absolutely do want to write for Shinobu. I probably won’t start until after the Bar is over, though. Shinobu is a v important character to me, and I really, really want to make sure I do right by her (and I haven’t even decided exactly what I’d want to do with her anyhow).

Probably TMI, but I got into demon slayer (manga and anime) right after I watched my mom die. I kinda had to just pack up and go back to law school after that hellish month, and I was totally alone — like, in another city and state away from my husband and dad while trying to cope with this massive loss while still doing law school full time. Shinobu’s character exploration of rage and grief was very real to me, so she’s one of those like, special characters in my heart that I just love and treasure so much.

I’ll take a bit after this stupid exam to figure out what I want to do with her, and then hopefully I’ll start planning something! I would love to expand into the other characters as well once I have the freedom to do it!!

Y’all are literally the nicest people ever. I go back and re-read my fics after I post them a ton because 1) editing on your phone is hard so I tend to miss things and 2) I’m also dyslexic, so sometimes I catch embarrassing mistakes later, but you guys are still always so kind and encouraging! I love you with my whole heart, and I wish nothing but good things for you all, always!!

Weird Questions for Writers post

2. If you had to give up your keyboard and write your stories exclusively by hand, could you do it? If you already write everything by hand, a) are you a wizard and b) pen or pencil?

Nope, I couldn't! This is purely an accessibility issue for me. I can't write by hand for very long before my hand really starts to hurt. Also my spelling is sooo much worse. When I'm typing I rely a lot on muscle memory to spell words correctly, but when I'm doing it by hand the dyslexia is really a problem. Like m/w get switched, or b/d, b/p, d/a, d/q, p/q, f/t, i/j, even u/v. Sure I know I want to write an 'm', but I might end up writing a 'w' because it's the same letter just mirrored. Or I'm trying to write 'a' but my hand keeps going so now it's a 'd'.

The thing is, I didn't even realize I was dyslexic until a few years ago! So until my late 30’s I struggled so much with any kind of writing and didn’t know why it was so hard. If I mentioned to anyone that spelling was really hard for me they’d always say stuff like “But you’re so good at reading!” So I thought I was stupid or not trying hard enough, even though deep down I knew there was something going on that wasn’t my fault. Writing by hand actually gives me a lot of anxiety because of all those years being judged for something I didn’t have control over. And honestly, I don’t think I would’ve ever trying writing if I didn’t know I was dyslexic. Because I still would’ve been blaming myself for being neurodivergent.

33. Do you practice any other art besides writing? Does that art ever tie into your writing, or is it entirely separate?

Yes I do! I’ve done a ton of different arts and crafts over the years. My grandma taught me to crochet when I was 8, and that’s something I’ve done on and off ever since. Generally I crochet lace because the feeling of most yarn as it passes over my fingers gets really irritating, and fine cotton doesn’t. Also I like to challenge myself to make tiny, tedious things! I used to draw, but gave that up in my late teens because of how quickly my hand would start to hurt. Though I really miss it. I’ve dabbled in quite a few different types of embroidery: cross stitch, needlepoint, and drawn thread work. But my favorite is black work/double running stitch/Holbein stitch which I always make completely reversible with no visible knots because I’m nuts like that. I know how to sew, both by machine and hand. I’m not an expert at it, but I can do basic fitting and make clothing that isn’t very complicated. Quilting is something I’ve dabbled in, and would like to do more of, it’s so different than sewing clothing! Another thing I want to do more of is making chain maille jewelry, I’ve done a bit of it and it was really fun! (I’m purposefully leaving out quite a few things I’ve done because it’s already a long list, lol!)

My favorite art form besides writing is bead work! There is something so satisfying to me about working with beads. For one I love jewelry, which I think is a large part my grandpa’s fault (he was a rock hound/amateur lapidary artist, and he used to make jewelry for me). And I love both the technical/mechanical side of bead work, and the artistic/design side of it! It doesn’t matter if it’s bead weaving, if it’s stringing beads, or combining beads with wirework! I love all of it! Working with beads just clicks on a deeper level for me than most art forms I’ve tried.

As to whether it ties in to my writing, I guess that depends on how you interpret that question. I use a lot of lessons I’ve learned about creativity and my own creative process when I write. The way I approach writing is heavy informed by how I work in other mediums. And if it makes sense in the story, I will absolutely use knowledge about other types of art in my writing. Though I haven’t had much opportunity to do so yet. That’s only a matter of time, I usually give my own characters a hobby I’m at least a little knowledgeable about, so it will come up at some point or another.

Oh, man I was looking for examples of some of my work, but I have hardly any photos of things I've made! Well, I did find a couple I can show.

This was done for a drawing class I took when I was 18. While I have regrets about adding color to it, I still think it turned out pretty well. I used a photograph of some rhododendrons from an old National Geographic as reference.

I made these earrings for my mom back in 2015. They're sterling silver and apatite with silk thread woven through the fine chain to add more color. The silver beads next to the drops are 2mm, and the total length is only 1.5 inches/3.8 cm, so you can see I tend to work small.

Member introduction: Hi! My name is Mun Ari and I’m the Mun behind my OC Ariadna Koizumi Martínez. My mother language is Spanish, but I also speak English and German. Just like my baby Ari, I’m from Mexico, so I’m a proud Latina! I’m currently in college, so I get busy sometimes ^^’ (please have patience ^^’). I’m also a highly sensitive person (HSP), as such I’m quite shy and get overwhelmed with new people, so please bear with me :’v. Story (summary):

Ariadna was born in an upper middle class Mexican family. She grew up with the love and support of her family, making her a loving and kind child with a healthy and normal childhood. As a little girl she was very social and was described as “bright as a sunshine”. She felt closest with her father, although he was a busy businessman and only saw him as much as three times a month.

However, when she was in primary school she suffered from bullying from all her classmates. She was psychologically and emotionally abused by them, since she was the “weakest” and was the “slowest” to grow up (since she was all innocent and kind). She couldn’t defend herself, so she endured it in silence and made her life in school a living hell for her. It took some time for her family to notice since Ariadna didn’t say a thing. She became quiet, insecure and reserved with everyone as a result of this.

As time went by, Ariadna went through many changes in her life: the divorce of her parents, entering high school and later on her school getting destroyed by an earthquake. Due to this, a mysterious letter came to Ariadna’s hands from a person called “Tougo Sakamaki”, offering her a scholarship to study abroad in the prestigious Ryotei High School Academy to continue her studies. Her family refused this invitation, but Ari escaped her home to travel alone to Japan, accepting Tougo Sakamaki’s proposal. As part of the deal, she arrived at the Sakamaki mansion where she found out about the secrets of the residents in the house and the truth behind the “sacrificial brides” (meeting Yui Komori as well). Even then, she met the Mukami family (therefore learning about “Adam’s plan”) and the Tsukinami (and with that learning about her family’s origins and her true nature).

And just when Ariadna thought she could get to live in peace…

Ariadna, being the small and light girl she is, turned her into an easy target and so a mysterious guy kidnapped her. He then introduced himself as Kino: “KarlHeinz’s Zero prince” and apparently his illegitimate son. Starting a new chapter in Ariadna’s crazy life with vampires.

He’s mildly dyslexic but doesn’t like to tell anyone because he’s afraid people would think he’s dumb

okay so i’ve written several posts before about why andrew is autistic. his moral code, the roundabout way he communicates, his body language, his stimulation-seeking behavior, his strict adherence to transactional deals, the emphasis on honesty, and a dozen other details. at this point i just take andrew being autistic as fact, not just an interpretation

h o w e v e r i also hc that andrew is dyslexic, which is also a neurodiverse condition

similarly, i’ve seen more than one person interpret kevin as autistic, and i absolutely agree that it fits. not just the hyperfocus on exy but mostly the way he communicates. he’s very indirect, especially in his affection but very direct with his opinions. he tries to be helpful in a material way to the people he cares about, even if he comes off as negative. he wants the people he cares about to be safe and successful so he pushes them to work hard and reminds them in measurable ways how to stay healthy. he doesn’t factor in a lot of room for emotions, so instead he focuses on quantifiable things that he can improve. i personally act very similarly. approaching someone emotionally is hard for me, so when the people i care about have problems all i can think to do is try offering solutions, check up on their well-being, etc. practicality instead of conventional sentiment is extremely common with asd

so now let’s talk about neil. i had to think on this one for a WHILE but ultimately came to the conclusion that neil is adhd, probably hyperactive type.

like obviously neil is high energy. i would say he probably does the most exercise of anyone on the team. morning run, morning practice, afternoon practice, night practice with kevin and andrew, plus he doesn’t have a car so he runs to class (on a BIG ass campus), and goes for an extra run when he feels stressed. that’s... insane, honestly.

neil reminds me SO MUCH of this post that goes:

“Was just informed by my mom that I do in fact have ADHD and the reason I thought I didn’t was because ever since I was seven whenever I got super energetic my mom would have me go chop wood so now when I’m feeling The ADHD I go chop wood”

(phenomenal post) and that’s neil to a t. tell me this isn’t exactly how neil handles his problems and also exactly what mary would have had to do to keep her unmedicated and very energetic son focused on the task of staying alive

neil also definitely has that ADHD on/off switch with his interest. the obvious being exy which is like the definition of a hyperfixation, but you can see it in other things: the way he runs totally hot or totally cold with people, his complete disinterest in his schoolwork, the way he can’t seem to sit still long enough to follow movies. but then there’s also the hyperfocus. doing the same drill for hours on end. watching exy game after exy game. staring at andrew until time falls away

what’s more, neil on many occasions shows racing thoughts, both in an anxiety way (and anxiety often goes hand-and-hand with adhd) but also as a way to quickly and accurately take in details about people to build a character profile of them. this is what allows him to connect with the foxes, how he manages to get through andrew’s puzzles, and even how he knows what to say in order to knock riko down a peg. his brain just works so fast and it takes in a lot of very specific details and disparate information to make connections.

but also like,, neil has a HUGE problem with time blindness. like the instant he didn’t have his mother around to manage and direct him anymore he lost all sense of time. he stayed in Millport for a YEAR. and what did he keep telling himself during that time? basically “i really need to move on, but not just yet.” for a YEAR! then he gets to palmetto and he’s like “i’ll cut and run in a month or two” then he doesn’t “i’ll be gone by halloween” wrong again “i’ll leave by the raven’s game” nope. like,, the boy just has NO sense of time and he can’t seem to make himself DO anything outside of an externally enforced schedule. and even then,,, HE HAD 48 FUCKING DAYS TO FIGURE OUT SOMETHING TO DO TO NOT GET MURDERED! 48 WHOLE DAYS. he didn’t make a plan, he didn’t write down any letters with goodbyes, he didn’t GO TO THE FBI LIKE HE’D INTENDED TO THE WHOLE TIME! nah he just made out with andrew and when he finally got to zero he was just like “ah shit, that was fast. oh well guess i’ll die” and that’s time blindness, babey!

let’s move on to nicky.

now i think it would be really easy to say nicky is just adhd because he’s high energy and forgetful but tbh,, i don’t think that’s all of it. like if you really look at nicky’s character and especially at his problems, he has asd problems just as much as he has adhd problems.

so nicky is dual diagnosis asd and adhd. also nicky reminds me a lot of a girl i used to know who was autistic/adhd

so, adhd:

very generally speaking, ppl with adhd will struggle with sitting still, listening to and following instructions, planning/organization, following a schedule, and some social boundaries like “appropriate” times and topics of conversation

i would say you see hints of this with nicky. he’s definitely a rambunctious personality, constantly on the move, constantly stimulation seeking. he’s very tactile. he likes to dance, he likes to party, he complains about it but he’s an elite-level athlete. he’s also decidedly very chatty, and doesn’t seem to really pay attention to what he’s saying. he distracts himself and the people around him have to keep him on track. he has some trouble with boundaries. he’s a little all over the place. he’s almost a bit of an adhd stereotype

also one thing i find interesting is that when neil sees him in the library doing work neil is surprised to see he’s capable of that, especially bc when we see the upperclassmen doing work they generally do it in their dorms or on the bus and/or with other people around. that hyper-social nicky would be alone in a quiet place is weird. but this is like the most common tip for dealing with adhd. don’t do it in a familiar space. have a designated space and time to do work. limit distractions. just a lil detail

so now, asd:

in all honesty, most of nicky’s actual problems in the narrative could be viewed as stemming from asd symptoms. his number one issue being that he has a lot of trouble with nonverbal cues (and tbh, verbal ones too). the twins are mostly quiet. andrew especially (when he’s sober) communicates primarily nonverbally, and nicky seems to have a lot of trouble with this. despite knowing them for the longest on the team, nicky honestly seems to have the least insight into the way either of the twins actually thinks or processes things. he loves them, and he’s very forgiving of them, but he fundamentally doesn’t understand them.

the twins, andrew especially, put up a LOT of nonverbal boundaries, and nicky sort of inadvertently keeps trampling all over them. he’s touchy in a way they don’t like. he talks a lot about their personal lives to other people. he treats them like they’re joking when they’re serious. etc. and like,,, you kind of get the sense that the upperclassmen feel similarly about him. beyond the homophobia, beyond the fact that he’s loyal to andrew, the upperclassmen still treat him with this sense of,, bafflement, i suppose? it’s clear that they don’t really understand him and he doesn’t really understand them. although, nicky IS curious about the upperclassmen, while the upperclassmen are pretty dismissive of him. it reminds me of when my sweet, floppy dog tries to play with my cat. their body language is different; they’re each receiving different signals than they believe they’re sending out

only,, nicky loves people!! he likes being around them, he likes talking to them. he’s interested in their lives and stories, but it’s very clear that he can’t read between the lines on people. he has an incredibly hard time with people who expect their actions to speak for them, which is most people, but is especially his cousins.

actually this is very much also an issue that i have: things need to be spelled out for me. the way i deal with it is i ask a lot of questions. ‘how do you want me to react to this potential situation?’ ‘what are specific things that make you most comfortable?’ ‘please explain to me exactly how you feel and what has prompted those feelings?’ and i’m always communicating vice versa like that with other people. a lot of specifics in both questions and answers

and the interesting thing is, when i was skimming through the books reviewing dialogue styles for another ask, i noticed that, actually, nicky DOES do this. with neil and the upperclassmen, nicky asks a LOT of quick, clarifying questions. things that ask after tone, that ask after intent. it’s kinda sad that he does this for communicating with acquaintances, but with the twins, the people he’s closest to, he makes a lot more assumptions. and i’m really proud of nicky for having this coping skill, because i can’t imagine it’s something he grew up doing. there’s no way he was raised in an environment that fostered this kind of open communication so it must have been something he learned about much later, probably in germany with the kloses, which would also explain why he’s a lil imperfect about it

this is another one i had to think through for a long time before it felt like it fit

much like how i felt that it would be easy to read nicky as simply adhd rather than also asd, i think it would be easy to say aaron is autistic simply because he is quieter, less rambunctious. however, i actually think he’s adhd, likely primarily inattentive type

in all honesty, aaron’s #1 character trait for the first two books is basically that he’s disconnected. detached. separated both from his family and his team. not in the same forcefully apathetic way that andrew is, more,, spaced out. he’s just kind,, there. not really paying attention to what’s going on, tuning in every once in a while only if something really catches his eye/ear then tuning right back out again. just sits in his corner and plays on his phone. and the thing is, from the moments when he does tune in, you can tell that he actually does care. he backs nicky when seth insults him in tfc, and we know he cares deeply about andrew even if he’s become disillusioned with their fraught relationship. he even hangs with his family, doesn’t seem to really try and slip away to other friends besides katelyn, he’s fine spending his leisure time with the monsters. so it’s not totally apathy, he’s just,,, tuned out most of the time

and, yea, that sounds like adhd. it’s not the type that most people are familiar with, and for a lot of people this causes it to slip under the radar. it can make it hard to get help or a dx because it doesn’t fit with how adhd “should” look or how someone “should” act, but difficulty focusing your thoughts and staying in tune with the current moment is absolutely part of adhd

addiction is also a huge problem for people with adhd. a lot of stimulants affect people with adhd very differently than neurotypicals, especially in small doses, and an adhd kid who’s struggled their whole lives with the disorder might try speed or god-forbid meth or fuck even coffee and suddenly find that things are a lot easier for them. they start to self-medicate, they don’t actually know what they’re doing, and then they’re addicted, and everything spirals out of control. we don’t know too many details about aaron’s addiction other than that his mother enabled him, but wouldn’t this fit? it’s also an explanation for aaron still taking drugs at eden’s, given that cracker dust seems to be a mild amphetamine. (aaron talk to betsy about the neurocog and get an actual prescription please)

4.) Tell us about your “dream”. Uhhhh honestly it’s just to have a small house, a couple of Staffordshire Bull Terriers (English Staffies) and live happily with my partner and our spawnling. I don’t have big dreams, just Staffy sized ones. lol

5.) Aside from art, what are your hobbies? Well I don’t really do ART as such but most of my hobbies are artistic in nature I guess? Photography, collecting Asian Ball Jointed Dolls and 1/6th Action Figures/Poseble figures, Writing (both original stories and fanfiction sometimes), anything to do with computers.

6. )Does anyone irl know about your blog? Sure. My partner, my spawnling, I don’t really share it with anyone else because they just wouldn’t be interested/understand but that’s fine with me!

What are some fun facts about you? uhhhh I mostly only have things I’ve already shared a long time ago or on my old blog but um... trained car mechanic, also trained child minder, I was 16 when I got my first tattoo (yes this IS illegal, behave kids don’t be a dumbass like me! seriously DON’T EVER do this!) I have 8 piercings and I want more, I’m dyslexic and also slightly ambidextrous and I have monkey feet as my partner calls them. I’m fairly good at picking things up with my feet. lol

9.) What’s your day job? Currently I uh... actually don’t have one. I’m watching over my partner who’s mentally unwell and unable to work himself.

10.) Do you have a celebrity look alike? Nope. Don’t think so. I kinda used to get compared to Lucy Lawless aka Xena the Warrior Princess when I was younger and honestly I am DOWN with that! (though I know I never actually looked anything like her, my mum kinda did but I look more like my dad soooo lol)

11.) What’s your aesthetic? Uh I’ve always been told it’s a little bit goth, a little bit punk, a whole lot of black, silver and resting witch face. ;)

12.) What kind of artist are you? Digital and an editor? idk honestly, like I use photoshop and my digital drawing pad to make small changes to my photography/sims pics/colour peoples linearts when they let me but does that make me an actual artist of any kind? lol But also idk does writing count? It’s a form of art in a way so...

13.) How did you get into your form of art? Since it’s mostly all photography or to do with photography (taking sims pics kinda counts as that really) uh basically my sister and brother-in-law are both heavily into photography and so was my father-in-law (RIP Dad <3) and I just sorta picked it up from all of them? I learned a few things and just picked up the bug and then it evolved into digital editing and then attempting digital art/colouring and just yeah it all spiraled into whatever this is. as for the writing, well I watched Inuyasha and Naruto a long, long time ago and fell in love with the characters and stuff and somehow stumbled upon fanfiction and I was like Ooooooooo! I can write shit like this?! and uh I just started getting into various fandoms from there and writing all these stories based on them, the characters from them or just the basic worlds they take place in and so yeah it just went from there.

14.) What do you watch/listen/read/anything else while you create? Usually I have either true crime programs or else fictional crime programs on as background noise. Things I’ve watched a million times before. I need background noise, can’t do silence. OR I have music on. a random playlist filled with a mixture of rock, metal, dance, trance and pop on shuffle usually.

15.) What is your favorite of your own creations so far? Oh damn uh honestly it’s probably a threeway tie between this, this and this I’m rarely actually proud of anything I produce but I usually kinda like it, these ones though, I still adore. 16.) How would you describe your art style? Shit, no idea dude. Like style? who that?! I don’t know her. I basically don’t feel I have a style, not for this anyway. Just, I do whatever style is needed for the pic I’m trying to make. Sorry I honestly have no clue. 17.) What is more satisfying to you coloring or outlining? colouring. I can’t draw for toffee, like at all so it’s defo colouring BUT I also can’t shade for jack either. so yeah idk. 18.) What meme would you use to describe yourself? This one! It’s completely me. Honestly I know memes but I could not for the life of me think of a single one. Just happened across this one and went oh hi yeah that me! lol

19.) What character from any media form do you most identify with? Uhhhh I never really thought about this tbh. I guess Kakashi from Naruto or Hermione from HP because well always reading! and I’m known as the human dictionary and also the human library so it kinda makes sense. But also The Hulk from Marvel. Cause well, ‘That’s my secret Captain, I’m always angry.’

20.) If you were on the run, what would you change your name to? Axel or Cooper probably. idk very masculine names I know but most of the time that’s just me.

21.) Have you ever or do you want to change blog names? Um yeah I kinda wanna actually. I picked this one because well hi I’m BelovedPoison and I do sims stuff. But it just sounds so stupid and meh now but I literally have no idea what cool or funny name to call myself. Sooooo we stuck here for now. lol

22.) God forbid Tumblr decides to pull a MySpace and lets us have page songs, what song would you choose? Oh jeeze uh I have no idea honestly. hi hello i couldn't sleep last night so i was scrolling thru all ur asks and stuff and ur opinions and analyses are so interesting!!! and then afterwards i was thinking about what u were saying about mlm smut and i'd also been thinking about such things a little bit recently bc like.....at a certain point it becomes quite clear that the vast majority of smut-writing is just imitation. like there's the sex noise verb list and all and the whole general mechanics of the sex and those things just .... replicate over and over. and the whole thing w people writing mlm vs wlw smut regardless of their own sexual orientation..... like i feel like a big part of that is just a self-perpetuating thing. like if u have not had sex and u r getting all ur (pleasure-related) sex ed from fandom (even if u do watch porn, that doesn't rlly tell u how to describe stuff? idk) regardless of What fandom , the majority is going to be mlm smut. which is itself majority imitation of other mlm smut, imitating and imitating back to whoever knows what the first smut fanfic was etc. there's just way More to mimic than there is on the women side of things. which then becomes a self-perpetuating thing, bc the mimicry continues and generates more and more. and---if there are fundamental misunderstandings of anatomy involved---those self-perpetuate as well. and maybe even exaggerate. and yeah. does this all make sense? idk i was just thinking about it. like all the stereotypes and stuff continue bc writers are getting their inspo from other writers rather than their own brains. or something. idk!!!!! it's just all... divorced from reality? bc words. or something!! i hope u get what i'm trying to say. just thoughts i've been thinking. anyway i think ur thoughts are cool. and ur writing. ok bye have a good day!!

This video begins to talk about fetishization at the end, but also… not really. The words “gay fanfiction” is used as a catchall, when really gay fanfiction is largely mlm written by non-mlm.

Fandom is a largely women's space dominated by the female gaze in a media industry world that is dominated by men and the male gaze. I'm really glad women have this space to explore creativity and queerness, and I don't expect the female gaze to go away, but I am still ultimately bummed out I can’t read most fanfic or interact with most fandom spaces without having fetishization in my face.

So about 80% of fandom is women, and most of those women aren't straight, but 90% of those women prefer mlm ships. Why don’t they prefer wlw ships? Well definitely part of it is the fact that queerbaiting is centered around white straight men, and then there is also the fact that women tend not to be written as well charcter wise. But the fact still remains that you get jerjean getting priority over Layla and Alvarez who are in canon just as much and are a canon wlw couple who actually interact as well as Alvarez could likely be a woc because of her Hispanic last name. Korasami doesn’t get nearly as much hype as zuko and saka, despite the fact that they are 2 fully dimensional characters who canonly kiss and hold hands, something the creators fought for and ended up having to sacrifice another reboot for.

I do believe the fandom echo-chamber is largely responsible for… a lot of things, like you're saying. But what's interesting is that the complaints I've heard about visual porn from non mlm in the fandom space is that they can’t get off to it because its for the male gaze and misogynistic usually. But they also don't seem to notice how the mlm smut circles has the female gaze and is also… almost always mlm. If it was a pure anatomical not knowing thing, I get that, but I also think that leads to the question of “then why the male body for porn, and not your own? The one you know and are familiar with?”

I know some people want to get outside of their own body for porn and don’t want to think of their own anatomy at all, but overall I'm still uncomfortable. If an anglo said “well I watch porn of only Mexicans so I don't self insert” I'm gonna be like … hhhh in a similar way. I understand people “like what they like” but I wish they also noticed said patterns in the first place. I understand the t4t tumblr porn circle, and how it's different from cis people who only watch trans porn.

I actually wished that instead of fandom focusing on mlm ships where some asshole guy hits on bottom troupe charcter for top troupe character to save, was instead… a wlw character experiencing said shitty getting hit on and other wlw swooping in. what's interesting is fandom writes a lot about misogynistic experiences without often realizing it. Ive read fanfic where guys get called sluts for sleeping with people or called bitch for speaking their mind, these arent things men usually experience, but rather women. Fandom has a lot of internalized misogyny and also queerphobia imo. Women characters often get pushed to the sidelines and men become the canvas for female fans to project onto.

There is this natural inclination to mlm. When people are talking about “gay shipping” or “gay books” or “gay feels” or even just “gay” mlm is what’s largely in mind. I honestly am kinda saddened by this because if gay fanfiction was really solely about writing more to feel represented, then you would see a lot of bi and ace and lesbian rep, but this isn't the case. Queer women are seriously underrepresented, and I want to hear their stories and read them in fanfiction as well as published. 50% of lgbt literature is mlm, and of that its largely written by women. Becky Albertalli, Rainbow Rowell, Maggie Stiefvater, are the YA big names and are all women writing mlm. Red white and royal blue is written by Casey McQuiston and Captive prince (which is not YA) is written by C. S. Pacat, who is non-binary, but is also TME and not mlm. These are all the big names in mlm lit, behind them is some gay men, but honestly their stories aren't preferred, they're not the right “flavor” for the consumers usually, who are largely women. In general YA consumers and authors are women, but I wish that they… just wrote about women too. I think there is a certain… snowball effect to the overrepresentation of mlm representing the whole LGBT community that leads to fetishization, as well as misogyny playing a factor in: less women characters being written well to write fanfic on, when they are written well they're taken less seriously or the audience struggles to relate to them, they're less marketable then men.

Idk I never feel “seen” or “represented” by any of the books above, which don't address boyhood and manhood and queerness intersecting really, and AFTG doesn’t either. I relate to AFTG as a trauma victim who has experienced a lot of what many of the characters go through and have gone through in the EC as well as them just overall being very well written characters, but I don't relate to it as a mlm really. I've never seen like.. gay voice or being straight passing or femphobia or how boyhood can be affected from a young age by those around you sensing you're ‘other’ or if you didn't experience this you feel outside the mlm community. Let alone sub cultures like bear and leather and pup, at most you see the word “he's such a twink” in fandom which... i fr hate non mlm using that word because it's usually used to replace the f-slur essentially, used derogatorily or to call him “such a bottom” and stuff like that. It’s like a joke or an insult.

Long story short, idk mang this was a ramble and I think I'm coning down with something. I wanna see more queer women rep and women authors writing about being a queer woman too. I think it's a complex web of fetishization and a bit of forbidden love yaoi culture (or it used to be in the BOYXBOY days) as well as misogyny on an industry level, creator level, as well as reader/consumer and fandom level. I don’t think it’s inherently wrong to explore other peoples stories and what we read has to be segregated, “only mlm are allowed to read and write mlm, only wlw are allowed to read and write wlw,” but I also think author’s intent and audience and background is telling, as well as overall statistics. Like about an hour ago I was looking for cookbooks in spanish or in english, and I was looking for some mexican food cook books, but I had to look for them using words in spanish because otherwise what came up was a bunch of “fiesta party, easy as uno dos tres authentic cooking!” and I was like… hm. Since I could tell they were marketing to anglos. (also the author’s last names were like michelle smith, james cooper, and this could be for a variety of reasons, but I trust Hispanic names more tbh and deadass would look at the authors pictures and if they had other books in Spanish or what their specialties were.)

anyways. not sure how to end this. uhm if anyone has any book recs (my to read list is like 500 books tho no joke) preferably not YA white mlm written by a white lady, hopefully queer women written by queer woman, LMK, I need more wlw and queer women stories on my list. I have a decent amount but always looking for more. I kinda wanna link my goodreads or my storygraph but I also don't want to get doxxed and it has my legal name on it so.

I'm not sure if you've made this post already, but if not, what kind of comics do you think each of the killjoys + the girl would like? (I just remember seeing something similar at some point, don't remember if it was you tho)

I have not! It was @\saveyourself who made that post, though i do have my two cents on the subject with the addition of some graphic novels as i found some i’ve read really fitting for the characters.

I feel Kobra’s the easiest to answer this for because in my canon at least, they’re the only one who genuinely enjoys reading. They often are drawn towards the more violent comics with gritty art styles or revenge-driven plots. Watchmen and V for Vendetta are right up their alley, though they’d find something like Sandman too slowburn for their taste and that Lobotomy Kid has too unreliable of a timeline and narrator to really be able to stand through it, never mind the fact that after Poison is taken away memory and loss of it becomes quite a touchy subject.

Jet Star, on the other hand, would quite enjoy Lobotomy Kid because it’s the perfect read when you’re feeling mentally ill on a saturday evening and half-dissociating in your seat. He usually tends to stray towards comics that have more anachronistic timelines, use a lot of flashbacks and jump cuts as narrative devices or follow the POV of multiple characters. I figure they’d also like The Umbrella Academy because of this reason since a broken up narration helps keep him grounded somewhat when his thoughts get all mangled like that.

Ghoul is much more about looking at the art in a comic book rather than reading it mostly because trying to force himself to read is a quite literal headache courtesy of a mix of ADHD and dyslexia. Because of this he has to sit through a lot of pretentious art-of-concept works that bore him to death until he reaches half-way through them, but the ones he genuinely took his time with are my universe’s version of Nat Anthem and the Jem and the Holograms meet The Misfits comics because he nearly cried when he found out of the members of The Misfits was also dyslexic.

Poison tends to get most invested in stories where the main character was just thrust into the action by accident or they were forced out of their normal lifestyle to fulfill some greater purpose they don’t want to have to fulfill at first. Some titles they’d enjoy would be Raven, Sing No Evil and Punk’s Not Dead.

I feel like The Girl would really enjoy Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass (which i’m honestly forever thankful to @tasteofamnesia for recommending) because, well, i see a lot of her and her character journey in Harley’s own, so i think she’d see it in herself too.

Hey guys, Kat here! I’m back after so long! I’m sorry about the long wait; I have been so tired from work and just got drained into doing any writing at all! But I’ve wanted to do a story for the past week now, so here we are!

My work friends and I were talking about the hotties in Pokemon; one picked Piers, and the other picked Leon, while I picked Milo! I can’t help myself; I love the big and cuddly boys, don’t judge me! I was interested in doing a smut story about him, so here I am!

Milo; one of the best gym leaders and carries grass-type Pokemon to battle. He’s big, strong and fearless but also has a heart of gold and admired by his other gym leaders in the Galar region.

That same man was also your boyfriend.

How you met was a Riveting and even romantic story. Wild Thievul’s were hunting you across the field until Milo came in-between to shield you, helping you up when they ran off and guided you to his house in Turffield. His home was practically covered in flowers from top to bottom, even having a more extensive garden for himself and his pokemon. Milo introduced himself as he aided you, wrapping your ankle where one of the wild Pokemon bit you, letting you know you can rest in his house if you like. You were flattered but told him it was not necessary; you didn’t want to bother him already. He was a Gym leader, it must not be an easy job to do, but he was determined for you to know that you were no bother, even letting you borrow his bed to sleep.

After that, you would come by his house with gifts and treats as a thank you. It made Milo pleased to see you a lot more. But the more you started to see each other, the more you liked each other. Your face would heat up while Milo was a bit blundering and flustered when any contact or even flirting happened. His Wooloo got sick of the back and forth, so he bumped you into Milo so he could hold you. When that happened, he didn’t want to let you go, and you didn’t want to pull away, which made you both ending up kissing that sunny afternoon.

It’s been a few months in the relationship, and it was going swimmingly well! He was busy in the gym half the time, so you would go to applaud him on, always excited to watch him battle. Then after, you would go back to his house and treat yourselves with scones and tea.

God, you loved this big man so much. He made you feel protective and loved; it made your chest tighten. But for a flustered and kind man, he could do so much to you in the bedroom, that just thinking about it made your knees weak.

And did the large man have a large package?

Yes.

Yes, indeed, he did!

It was the second month until he took you to the bedroom, anxious and a bit insecure about what you would think. He was single this whole time because people couldn’t take him or just backed away instantly. But not you..! Of course, you were shocked at first, but you didn’t back down from his size. You had no idea how happy Milo was when you took him but got worried when you nearly passed out at the end.

And today was going to be the same.

“Milo..! You in?” You called out as you knocked on the wooden door, waiting for him to open the door as you felt your summer dress flow across your legs by the wind. You never wear dresses often, but the sun was out for once in Galar. You also know Milo gets blushing when you expose your skin and you notice him glancing at your legs once or twice.

The door finally opened; your boyfriend into full view with dirt covering his T-shirt. “My sweet strawberry..! I’m happy to see you!” He was about to hug you, but you placed a hand on his chest, pointing at the dirt covering him. “Oh, sorry. I was doing some gardening.” Milo said, rubbing the back of his neck.

“I’ll hug you when you change, so I’ll give you this.” You gave the larger man a sweet kiss on his lips, making him lean towards you but paused when you pulled away with a teasing smile, making him huff. Milo shut the door when you came in, going upstairs to change.

You always loved his home; It was covered with paintings of pokemon and flowers; one photo displaying him and the other gym leaders on top of his fireplace. Your eyes glanced at the smaller one next to it with a smile, seeing it was you, Milo and his Eldegoss. As you were looking over the photos, you felt two big arms going around your waist. “How is my sweet strawberry doing?” He asked with a giant smile on his face, snuggling into your neck.

You giggled when his peach coloured hair tickled your neck. “I’m fine...I got a surprise for you.” You said before pulling away to turn to him, Milo seeing the Pokeball between you both. “I got a Pokemon..!” You spoke with exhilaration in your voice.

“Congratulations!” Milo said brightly before hugging you again. “Come on, come on, show me your new friend..!” He said before backing away. You tossed your Pokeball into the air for the pokemon to come out, a small tail wagging when he came to display. “A Yamper? Heh, how am I not surprised?” He chuckled as he kneeled, letting him sniff his hand before stroking him. “You have been talking about getting one since I met you.”

I’m just glaring at Naboo script

“and apparently the whole galaxy used to be a part of roman empire because omg that crap makes very little sense otherwise

so, let’s ignore the fact that this script is an utter nightmare when it comes to legibility. It’s even worse than armenian script and that’s something.

so, let’s first go through the vowels, ok?

Vowels aka we kinda give little to no fuck to paying attenton to Naboo names

Here we have the classical a-e-i-o-u-y. The usual latin/greek derived letters for vowels.

A is a staple. I have nothing against it, but surely the shape must be a nightmare for readability. Consider how often As appear in Naboo names. Now, look at all the letters that have the same shape appearing in them - B, C, F, I and J. I feel sorry for all dyslexic naboo people becasue omg, that’s just BAD.

E - the only difference between this letter and the letter for M is the pointiness. That wouldn’t be a problem if the rest of the letters were easily discernible. Which they are definitely not.

I - Again, repeating shapes. Try writing ACA and ICA. NIGHTMARE.

O - The only letter they did not fuck up

U - Seriously?

Y - ok, why is this included? Is it supposed to sound like the greek upsilon? If not, is it supposed to be the “j” sound (as in “you”)? Seriously, why did they put it in?

What makes me even more frown, is the fact that when you look at just the word Naboo - what is “oo” supposed to represent? Long U sound? How would you write it down? With U or two O’s? How do you differentiate between long and short vowels in this script? Sabé and Yané anyone?

Consonants aka we gave no fucks not to kiss the Roman Empire’s caligulae

B & T - WHAT IS THE FUCKING DIFFERENCE BETWEEN “B” AND “AT”?!?!

C, K, G - okay this is the sole reason why i’m so fucking angry. why? why do you have those three letters? why do you keep “c”. i guess it works just like in english/italian where it fluctuates between “s” and “k” but if that’s the case, why don’t you just use the fucking k and s and ditch this mutant? i tell you why. because etruscans had only one velar consonant so they took greek gamma and used that only (C). when romans tried this writing business they got the alphabet from etruscans. but guess what, latin has both K and G sounds so they added a tail on C so they could write in latin. K was added again as greek kappa because of sound changes in vulgar latin. but why does the space alphabet has c?!?! what sound does it represent?!

(I vote for voiceless palato-alveolar sibilant affricate as ch in chicken)

D - did you just put fucking H into parentheses?

F - NO

J - again, ROMAN modding. Originally, J used to be just the consonant version of I (see: my rant on Y). IVNENTVS was modded into JUVENTUS and everyone was happy. But again. What sound is represented here? The voiced palato-alveolar sibilant affricate as J in jam?

L-M poor dyslexic kids. also too similar to E.

P - try writing “be” and “ape” in this damn script and let me know how that goes

Q - Ok, WHAT SOUND DOES IT REPRESENT? The Kw sound as in latin? Or this?

V and W - i’ll magnanimously ignore the fact that I can’t recall a sole name among Naboo caracters that had W sound in it and accept it.

X - Ok, a) loks far to similar to A, b) WHAT SOUND DOES IT REPRESENT? If it’s “ks” - why not just use K and S? If it’s supposed to be like X in Xena, WHY NOT JUST USE Z?! The only thing that makes sense is it to be used as greek chi as in loch ness.

Heya! I really really like your style and saw the commission thing and was wondering how to, y'know, commission a tningy ^^' I haven't done it before

Glad you like my art and like it enough to consider commissioning! ^u^

My commission information page is here. I suggest looking through it. I explain how I work in that as well, at the very bottom. But, I’ll give ya a breakdown for the Never Commissioned Before. (since that version lowkey assumes at least slight familiarity)

It’s not too difficult or anything so don't stress it! If you want a general price-point before diving in or anything: for me, an average work tends to be around $35-50ish USD (usually mostly depending on color or number of characters) but some of the more complex stuff, which often includes multiple characters and background goes more up towards $200ish. If you’re tighter on cash, as I know a lot of people are, I suggest setting yourself a budget and telling me what it is! That way if you want something, but you can’t afford it, I can help make it something affordable! (ie I may suggest not using full color, or having a bust rather than a full character- etc)

For the actual process, I’ve put it under the cut. I go pretty in-depth and it got long.

Step One: Message me with what you want to commission me to do. Give a short description.

You can message me on tumblr or through my email [email protected]. I like it if you come in with a semi-solid idea of what you want. Hopefully you read through my commission page, but, I’m also happy to provide suggestions and ideas as well. I do fanart and original works! You should have a description of what you have in mind ready.

Here’s two examples on each extreme of what I can work with:

“A picture of my character, standing with their hands on their hips. They have long brown hair and eyes and wear a pirate-like costume”

“A picture of my character, standing with their hands on their hips, a little sassy in pose an expression. They have long brown hair that goes to their hips, and is parted to the left. They have brown eyes, and a small scar on their cheek. They’re a little stocky and they wear a v-cut loose black tunic, a purple vest and leather belt.”

I’d ask more questions for both of these! I’ve never had a commission where I don’t feel the need to ask for more information. If it’s an original character (or even au-versions of fanart or characters I’m not familiar with), I love hearing about who they are as a character, since that gives me a sense of what energy I’m trying to portray with the character. If you have references (doesn’t matter if it’s an amalgamation of references plucked off of google or something you drew yourself) that’s awesome! I don't require it, but, they’re always appreciated. I am totally open to helping you make decisions too! if you have the base idea, but you don’t know if you want them to have a coat or not, I can give you sketches with both options.

Step 2: Pricing.

If you don’t already mention it, I’ll ask you specifics of the things in my commission post- ie: if it’s full body or a half body, or if it’s full color or anything.

If anything on my commission post confuses you, you can always ask me for more examples or an explanation of the difference!

After determining exactly what you want me to do, I’ll usually give you an estimate for how much it would cost to complete. Sometimes, if you’re still deciding between things that determine the price, like how complex the pose is, I might do some sketches first and see which ones you like before giving you a price. I have a little leeway on pricing here, and if you think it’s too much, you’re welcome to ask me to explain why I priced it that way and if I can lower the price. That said, a lower price means lower complexity and detail.

If we’re confident in the price, I like if you pay me at this point, rather than later, as it’s easy to forget, and frankly, I’d rather not do all this work just for someone to take the image and not pay me at the end. I have some leeway, but I usually prefer if you pay me before I get to the last step before completion. If it’s a lineart work, that means after the sketch. If it’s a colored work, it means after the lineart.

Step 3: Sketches.

When I get started with sketches it usually takes me a day or 2 to get them done. I’ll give you several to choose from. I usually do about 4-6 individual sketches and label them by number (because I’m dyslexic and for the life of me never remember left vs right).

Once I send you a batch of sketches I’ll ask you for your opinion. I basically want to know: which sketch(es) fit your idea the best and if there’s anything I’m missing or need to get rid of. It’s going to be loose and messy, so if you want me to explain anything about how it looks, please feel free to ask. I can combine sketches if you like parts of one or two of them but as a whole they’re not perfect. If I’m totally off the mark, you can totally tell me so! That kinda means I didn’t do my job right in step 1, and I’ll ask more questions to understand which aspect I’m missing.

Once we have one sketch that works, I’ll ask you a few more questions about what you’d like to see on the lineart.

Step 4: Lineart

Depending on how complex it is and how busy my life is, this might take me a day or a whole week.

Using the sketch as my base I’ll use this time to make clean lines, get some details in (this is usually where expressions and clothes are defined beyond the general structure.)

I’ll send you the sketch after I’m finished and once again, ask you what you think and what might need adjustment. Your job is to nitpick here! Please, feel free to nitpick. Is the hair too short? Is the arm in a funky angle? Tell me! You’re buying it, you get to critique it. I’ll work with you to come to an agreeable look.

If you’re commissioning me for a colored work, I’ll also ask you for any clarification/changes from the original concept for the color.

Step 5: Color

This tends to take about 1-3 days.

If it’s flat color, it’ll be pretty simple, and shading or lighting will be done with kinda flat bold lines unless otherwise stated that you just want it Flat-Flat. It’s not my usual style, so most people tend to go for full color. Full color is my usual coloring style, and I use some pretty soft shading. It tends to reflect a midday-look, but if there’s a specific background I’m doing, I will match the color to it. Dynamic shading is a secondary layer of color. I usually do color and shading on one layer. Dynamic shading is where I work with really bold, dramatic lighting.

I usually work with a background at the same time as everything else, but, sometimes I don’t because I focused on one aspect or another, so that might be an additional step.

Once again, I’ll send the work to you and ask for your opinion.

Step 6: Finishing up

Once you’re happy with it, all that’s left is A) confirming you paid me (I’ll usually remember or write it down, so if you had, I won't ask.) B) signing the artwork and C) sending it to you via email. I usually send it as a .png but you’re welcome to request other filetypes. I’ll ask you for all these things too.

You’re also welcome to request that I record the process I can take screen-capture videos or I can screen-shot each step that I’m not screen-shotting already to send to get your opinion. (you’d have to ask me to do this at the beginning though.)

After all that, I’ll usually post it on my tumblr here, and you’ll have your commission!
