Kenji had always been a tough nut to crack, but that night, the alcohol had done its magic, leaving him in a state of blissful inebriation. He, along with Aaron and  Adam, had gathered for a boys' night out.
Kenji had decided it was high time for a boys' night out. He'd invited his best buddies, Warner and Adam, for a night of fun and revelry. Little did they know that Kenji had a surprise in store for them, something that would shatter their preconceived notions and send their jaws dropping. They didn't know that you and Kenji had been secretly dating for a while.
As the night progressed, Kenji became increasingly intoxicated, his inhibitions fading away like smoke in the wind. He couldn't help himself, and in his drunken state, he decided to let the cat out of the bag. With a wide, goofy grin, he began to regale his friends with stories about his amazing girlfriend (you).
"Guys, guys," he began, clearly intoxicated already, "you won't believe it, but I have the most amazing, pretty, talented, and hot girlfriend in the world!"
"I'm the luckiest guy, seriously." He slurred, leaning heavily on his friend's shoulder.
His friends exchanged bewildered glances. Adam chuckled, "Kenji, man, you've had one too many. Are you sure you're not just imagining this incredible girlfriend of yours?"
Warner and Adam exchanged incredulous glances, thinking that Kenji was simply caught up in the moment, or perhaps he was just too drunk to know what he was saying. "Come on, kishimoto," Warner chuckled, "you've had a few too many. Are you sure you're not just... imagining things?"
Kenji, however, was adamant. "No, I'm not making this up, guys. I'm serious. She's real, and she's mine!"
Adam chimed in, clearly amused, "Well, we've known you for a while, Kenji, and you've never mentioned a girlfriend before. Are you sure you're not delusional?"
Kenji shook his head vigorously, causing his unruly hair to flop around. "No, I'm not imagining. She's real, and she's mine!"
Warner, never one to care, chimed in, "Come on, kishimoto. You've been known to exaggerate when you've had a few drinks. You’re just being delusional."
"No, no, no!" Kenji insisted. "I'll prove it to you guys. I'll call her right now!"
Kenji clumsily fished his phone out of his pocket, fumbling with the buttons and nearly dropping it on the floor. He scrolled through his contacts, searching for the one name that meant the world to him. Finally, he found it— My Pretty Girl 🤍.
With unsteady hands, Kenji pressed the call button, the phone ringing in his ear. He leaned back and grinned at his friends, pride bubbling in his drunken heart. "You'll see!"
As his fingers danced across the screen, Warner and Adam watched with growing skepticism. They fully expected Kenji to dial a random number or play a prank on them. However, they couldn't have been more wrong.
Kenji, with a triumphant grin, put his phone on speaker mode as the call connected. Suddenly, a sweet and soothing voice filled the room, uttering, "Kenji? Baby? Do you need me to pick you up now?"
Warner and Adam exchanged a perplexed glance before their eyes widened in shock. The voice on the other end sounded awfully familiar, and the nickname 'Baby' was a clear giveaway.
Kenji beamed with delight, staring at his friends. "See! I told you she's real!"
Adam recovered from his shock first, shouting, “YOU ARE DATING Y/N ???”
Kenji ignored their comments and continued talking to you. "Pretty girl, I miss you."
You couldn't help but smile. "I miss you too, Kenji. Do you need a ride home?"
Kenji's eyes sparkled as he leaned closer to the phone, his voice laced with a hint of flirtation. "I need more than just a ride home, Y/N."
As the night came to a close, Kenji's friends decided it was time for him to go home. He was, after all, unable to stand on his own at this point. Kenji's intoxication levels continued to rise.
Kenji had other plans, though. He was in high spirits and wanted nothing more than to see you. "I need my baby. I can't stand being away from her" he declared, much to his friends' amusement.
When it was finally time to leave, Warner knew they couldn't leave Kenji alone in his state. He grabbed Kenji's phone and scrolled through his contacts to find the number saved under "My Pretty Girl 🤍."
The call is connected, and your voice on the other end can be heard. "Kenji? Is everything okay?"
“Hey, Y/N, it’s me. Come pick your drunk boyfriend up before he embarrasses himself.”
“Oh Warner, hey. Yeah I’ll pick him up. Please give him water to drink to sober up.”
“Yes, ma’am,” he said, voice thick with sarcasm.
When you arrived, Kenji was in no condition to stand, let alone walk. He practically lunged at you, wrapping his arms around your waist and nuzzling into your neck. "You're amazing," he slurred, his warm breath tickling your skin. "So pretty. So hot."
You couldn't help but laugh, feeling a warmth in your heart. "Thank you, kenj."
As Kenji stumbled toward you, he was all smiles, his neediness and clinginess on full display. He hugged you tightly, whispered sweet compliments in your ear, and planted tender kisses along your neck.
You couldn't help but smile, your heart filled with love for this man who, even in his most inebriated state, couldn't contain his affection for you.
As you left the bar, Kenji couldn't keep his hands off you. He was floating, and every step was punctuated by laughter, stolen kisses, and playful touches.
He kept his arm wrapped around your shoulders, his fingers gently tracing patterns on your arm.
"You're so pretty," he murmured, his breath warm against your ear as he placed sweet kisses on your neck. "So, so pretty."
You couldn't help but blush at his compliments, despite knowing that he was under the influence. Kenji, always the charming one, had now added a touch of playfulness to his usually affectionate nature. You decided to tease him a little. "Kenji, are you trying to sweet-talk your way into getting a ride home?"
Kenji let out a soft, tipsy chuckle, his lips grazing your earlobe. "Mhm, no. A way to make you scream my name tonight, though."
"Kenji, you're a mess," you chuckled, wrapping your arms around him as he swayed slightly.
"I'm not a mess, I'm a masterpiece!" he declared proudly, peppering your face with a series of sloppy kisses.
As you guys made your way towards the exit, Kenji kept stealing glances at you, his compliments flowing as freely as the liquor in his veins. "You're the most beautiful person in the world, you know that, right?" he slurred. His words were genuine, even if they were slightly incoherent.
The journey from the bar to the car was a wobbly one. Kenji couldn't seem to walk in a straight line, and he insisted on holding your hand with a grip that told you just how much he needed your support.
Once you guys were safely ensconced in the car, Kenji wasted no time in attempting to become one with the passenger seat. "I love this car," he mumbled as he hugged the headrest.
His antics didn't stop there. Kenji kept stealing kisses every few minutes, his lips landing anywhere they pleased – your cheeks, your nose, your forehead, your neck, your hands, even your ear. It was all rather comical and sweet, in a completely ridiculous way. "You taste like strawberries and sex" he remarked with a dreamy look in his eyes.
The car finally came to a halt outside you and his shared apartment building, and Kenji's drunken demeanor was still in full swing. He insisted on being carried upstairs, which was a considerable feat considering his weight.
When you arrived home, Kenji clung to you, reluctant to let you go. He peppered your face with kisses, laughing and whispering sweet nothings.
Kenji, now sitting on the couch, looked at you with puppy dog eyes. "I need more kisses," he pouted, his bottom lip sticking out.
You couldn't help but oblige. His neediness was endearing, and even though he was drunk, you couldn't resist his affection.
As you kissed his forehead, down to his cheeks, nose and to his lips, he quickly deepened it, a groan falling from his lips as he pulled you closer to him, sitting you to his lap.
"Kenji.. we can't. You are drunk" you said as you pulled away, while your boyfriend chased your lips.
"But baby, I need you right now, please. I fucking need to feel you." He insisted.
"We can't. You are drunk, love"
"My pretty baby, my best girl, my baby doll. Let me take care of you, please. I just need you so bad.." he begged you once again and you could not help but to let out a whimper.
"I know you want to, princess."
"Not when you are clearly drunk, okay?" You reasoned out and he pouted. He fucking pouted.
So, you stood up, playing 'Dancing Queen' by Abba as you invited him to dance.
The living room turned into a make-shift dance floor as you guys swayed to the melody, his head resting on your shoulder.
He began to mimic the bizarre dance moves of a famous pop star, twirling around the room with an exaggerated flair that left you both in fits of giggles. "I should audition for 'Dance moms,' don't you think?" he teased, striking a ridiculous pose.
As the hours passed, Kenji's antics faded, and he succumbed to the heavy pull of sleep. You tucked him into bed, his face still wearing a contented smile, and you could not help but smile back.

So helpful ! Joel miller
1.4k words
Tumblr media
Warning: Dark and perv! joel miller, AFAB!reader, male and female masturbation, dub con, drug use, male voyeuristic, light stalking, breaking and entering lmao, Joel is 55, reader is 24, somewhat established relationship (she be in his apartment), my punctuation (sorry I’m a American and texan)
Gif not mine!
A/N: first public drabble to post in quite a while. Getting thoughts onto here are harder than it sounds be patient I do a lot of drugs but have lots of ideas. So yeah enjoy!
Helpful neighbor!Joel miller installed your rings cameras for you. How sweet! When he tested them he connected his phone up to it. Now he has access to your house inside and out but you don’t know that.
Since moving into your apartment things have been great! The area is perfect you’re not too close to town but if you need anything it’s not a long drive. The neighbors are also great! There’s Martha who lives across your apartment, there’s Josh and Cathy who live to the right of you, and then to the left is Joel Miller, 55 years old and utterly attractive. Joel wasn’t a man of many words but he was very helpful, especially whenever you needed help.
It started off small at first a few stolen Amazon packages, your plants outside your door knocked over, but what finally pushed you into getting the cameras was when you came home one night and your apartment was broken into. Nothing was stolen thank god and your cat didn’t run too far, Joel was able to catch her and keep her at his place.
Too scared to sleep at your place for the night Joel offered his apartment for you until you felt safe. That night you ordered the cameras.
“How come none of these cameras are easy install? I have to have some sort of power tool.” You say to Joel as you sit as his breakfast bar scrolling Amazon. He’s currently in the kitchen making something to eat for you, his way of apologizing cause he wasn’t there to stop the break in.
“I could install them for you, I do have the power tools for it.” He says turning around pan in hand as he scoops out the pasta he made onto your plate.
“I’m gonna be busy this week, it’s okay I’ll just wait till I-“
“I can install them it won’t be a problem, I can come early in the morning.” Joel goes running in the morning and when you’re leaving for work he’s coming back from his run.
“Thank you Joel, for everything.” Reaching over you grab his hand and for a moment no one says anything and it’s quiet besides your cats collar making noise. Him making dinner and you just sitting there. It’s domestic, something Joel didn’t think he’d have after Sarah left for college 2 years ago.
He can’t help but kinda feel bad for breaking into your apartment. He just wanted to have something from you. His thick fingers trailing over your pillow, leaning over his nose fills with your scent, the scent of your vanilla shampoo lingers. Joels slowly walking around seeing fragments of your life scattered around the small apartment, clothes pouring out the closet, your bong on the living room table that’s half smoked, your cat curled up on your side of the bed. Before he leaves he passes your laundry room, right on top of the laundry basket there’s a black lace thong. Joel pockets it.
🫶🏻
By the time you get out the shower Joel is knocking at the door. You stand there and think get dressed or open it. Latching your towel around you tightly you rush to the front door. “I’m sorry Joel but I’m running late.” Joel stands their tool bag in hand as you rush back into the bathroom. Droplets of water trailing on the floor behind you.
“The box is on the counter! Just put a camera in each room please!” Joel stands there for a moment as his gaze fixes to the cracked bathroom door, steam coming from the room, your cat poking it’s head in to see you, and your shadow moving against the door showing you beginning to dress.
Twenty minutes later you emerge from the bathroom hair dry, makeup done, and clothed. You come out to see Joel standing on a step ladder in the corner of your living room. He’s drilling the camera into the wall, flannel tied around his waist as his back and arm muscles contract under his gray shirt. He stops and then turns to see you and he smiles.
“Good morning sunshine, are you about to leave?” You nod your head at him as you gather your bags together. “I’ll try to finish up quick-“
“It’s all good, here you can leave whenever.” You hold out your hand and in it is a little silver key. It’s quite a big step in Joel’s eyes but to you he’s someone you can trust. He takes the key, smiles and as he slips it in his pocket his fingers rub against your thong that’s also in there.
“I’ll see you later Joel, thanks again.” And with that you’re out the door.
An hour later and Joel’s done. He sits on your couch and pulls your bong you tried to “hide” behind the couch and hits it as the ring app loads up. As he’s connecting his phone to the cameras, and looking at the angles he can see you at he notices the little blue light in the corner. Reaching into his tool bag he digs around grabbing a sharpie and starts coloring over the blue dot.
🫶🏻
It’s late by the time you come back home but Joel is still awake waiting just for you. He gets up from his couch and heads to his bedroom where yours is adjacent just on the other side of the thin wall. He decides to use the cameras. Pulling out his phone his finger hesitates over the app he thinks about it for a second. Thinks about how you’ve been so nice to him, it’s under false pretense of course but it’s still genuine niceness.
The thought doesn’t last long cause Joel can hear your shower turn on so he presses on the camera app and opens the one in your room.
He can see you sitting on your bed rolling a joint in nothing but your panties. He swallows hard as you nod your head along to the music softly playing. He wishes he could be over there to greet you everyday to run your shower and cook dinner, to fuck you stupid till you’re not thinking anymore.
His cock starts to press against the lining of his pajama pants. He rubs his hand over the clothed erection as he watches you more. You finish rolling and begin your search for a lighter. Prancing around in your panties Joel’s mind goes dark. He thinks about how you’re just freely out here. He knows that you don’t know he’s watching you but he can’t help but think that this is a show you’re putting on for him. His own personal show. Just. For. Him
His fingers are yanking down his waistband and pulling them over his balls. He’s really hard now. Opening up his hand he spits into it and then lubes himself up. Starting out slow, his pointer finger and thumb squeezing the tip as he begins to jerk himself. You’re laying on your stomach, legs kicking behind you as you smoke your joint. Joel doesn’t mind the smell honestly he might buy weed from you later.
“Fucking tease.” He hisses out as he begins to make his grip tighter and pace faster. He’s not looking at the cameras anymore as he strokes himself only thinking of you and how you’d be such a sweet girl for him. Reaching down to cup his balls Joel is punched back to reality when he hears his name just slightly.
Ripping one of his hands away from himself he grabs his phone and sees you. Fucking slut, hands between your legs, joint between your lips chanting his name low. He came right then and there, massaging the cum all over his dick in his hand as he moans at the sight of you. A few minutes later of watching you, your hands slips away and you lay there catching your breath. Swinging your legs over the bed you hop up, smush the joint in the ash tray and then kick the bathroom door close.
Joel saw that he able to save that whole video. He did and he rewatched it 2 more times. Hearing your sweet voice whimper his name as you play with your clit. Unknowingly you just got Joel addicted. He needed you bad.

Hobie Brown Headcannons!
just some silly stuff ! >__<
warnings: i believe none.
[this is my first time ever posting smth like this..hopefully it’s good enough.]
*Reblogs, notes n comments r much appreciated >O<!*
Tumblr media
Starting off strong- this man definitely craves physical touch. Like have you SEEN him with the anarch-kids?
He cant live with out ur touch like seriously, it would drive this man insane.
You love your personal space? He loves yours too.
Especially out in public. This guy will have a finger around one of your belt loops/belt, holding onto your bag or hand, even has his arm snaked around your waist or shoulder. He needs your touch!!
he loves to cuddle. More of a big spoon kinda guy because he finds it funny how his body just completely takes over yours, ykwim? (If ur shorter than him ofc)
but won’t mind being little spoon fr. Loves to have his head laying on your chest as you guys sleep in each others arms.
Speaking of sleeping- he’s a really heavy sleeper.
when he sleeps he’s sprawled all over the bed so good luck trying to wake him up to give you room.
When you do try to move him, he dosent move or make room for you LMAO
he just groans before pulling you into his embrace and resting his chin on your head fast asleep with his arm around your waist.
He’s an ass lover.
Wearing shorts around the house? He’s telling you you look good in them. Bending over to pick something up? He’s playfully slapping ur ass and snickering as he does so.
Like- if your on youre phone or reading a book or whatever and your laying on your stomach, he’s gunna come over and lay his head on ur ass like a pillow and take a nap or do smth on his phone.
Same with thighs fr
When you guys are out walking around or doing something and you have back pockets, expect his hand in your pocket.
Because he could keep you close and get to feel your ass. Win win in his book!
He loves ur ass!!!!!!
He adores little trinkets.
He has them all over his house
Like the first time you walked into his house, you just saw a lot of bowls laying around in places like in his room, kitchen, living room ext with just small little knickknacks he found or bought (stole)
Loves to receive and gift them to people hes close with.
He’s like a crow honestly.
90% of the time when you guys are hugging, he would go limp out of nowhere and now here you are trying to hold up a 6’5 180 lbs guy as he’s chuckling his ass off.
Puts his arm on your shoulder or head like an armrest.
Never calls u by ur first name. always has some nickname for you like “darling” (since he’s a Brit n all) or a nickname that connects to an embarrassing moment of urs LMFAO
He’s stupidly smart but dosent put effort in it ykwim?
Same goes for cleaning like yeah he could clean it, but why would he? He knows where everything is so it’s fine.
Also loves to hug u from behind and burry his face into your neck.
Also neck kissed Are his favorite thing like cmon now.
Honestly dosent care What pronoun you use. You could call him ball/ballself and he would look over at you without batting an eye to that.
Knows how to sing, just dosent do it. But if u ask nicely he would as he strums his guitar professionally!
He snores and drools everytime he sleeps.
Also luvs to do and wash ur hair for u.
Hobie has ADHD idc argue with the wall.
If ur ever doing chores around the house he’s 100% always going to help you with whatever your doing even if it’s something as simple as sweeping the floors. He dosent want you to think your juggling to many responsibilities.
Typa guy to know a guy. He knows a lot of people.
All his fingers are decorated with rings. Once you guys start to actually get serious he would give you one of his favorite rings since he dosent believe in marriage.
It’s nothing too big though, it’s just a simple silver band that’s obviously been shown some love throughout the years.
Dosent really label your guys relationship. Why would he need to box you in like that? It’s stupid. He knows he can trust you and you can trust him so there’s no need to be calling each other “boyfriend” and “girlfriend”
Makes playlists for you and burns them into CD’s
We all know he’s alr stupidly smart, yeah? Well he was the kinda kid to always be sleeping in class, not do any work and fail it even though he was the smartest mf there.
Also hated to do homework so he didn’t do it. Who was gunna stop him? NOBODY.
Also sucks at spelling tbh
Like he dosent care abt it. “Apple” is now “aple.”
Loves to DIY stuff like clothes, pins, patches, jewelry n much more!
He’s punk so he obviously listens to punk music, but he also listens to more than that. He hates consistency !!
I think he would be a really good cook he just won’t put effort in exploring that part of him LMAO
he obviously has really good sense of style. I think a lot of people forget he was FORMALLY A RUNWAY MODEL. HELLOOOO???
So if he sees shitty quality clothes, hes gunna point it out to you and suggest something else.
When being taken out on dates he dosent really do anything fancy, not his style yk?
But he does take you out on the most amazing places only a few know.
Shows you the coolest pubs hidden in alleyways, site seeing, walking around London in his dimension and just little fun activities.
(maybe even steal from big corporations too.)

also i must know about the mamma mia au pls 🥺🎶🕺
Tumblr media
@rewritetheending asked too! i rewatched both mamma mias with my best friend a couple months ago and was like WAIT A MINUTE YOU KNOW WHAT WOULD SLAP lmao anyway this is exactly what i have saved in my drafts from sometime in august.
the very very loosely based mamma mia au:
where chris’s mum has never really been in the picture in his memory and the diaz family never talks about her because she left / they never knew her. so chris doesn’t ask many questions because no one wants to answer them he’s barely a teenager when he finds eddie’s diary from the year before he was born. and there are three women eddie writes about romantically: s, b, and a idk maybe something at school about parents day and he’s thinking about mothers and writes them all letters to the addresses eddie has scrawled in the back of his diary idk to let them know they live in LA and not texas anymore, in case they ever want to meet. but writes as eddie, not chris and he gets a polite letter back from a, saying she’s with someone else but hopes eddie is happy and doesn’t hear back from s and one day when eddie’s at the corner store the doorbell rings and. a large tall man is on the other side. very confused at the sight of christopher. but taking it in his stride. and he doesn’t come in because chris is all of thirteen and alone at home but. eddie catches sight of this ghost as he’s walking home with a bagful of groceries and eddie and chris talk about shannon because eddie knows she died a little after she left, not long after chris was born. and how much he loved her and she loved them both even if she had to leave. it’s not her fault she wasn’t able to come back. it wasn’t because she didn’t love chris. and it’s good, it’s so good to talk to each other about this, about her. but also—this guy, because b is a guy, kind of just? sticks around? he’s going to leave, eyes big and smile tight when he sees chris, but chris makes him leave his number and eddie—eddie texts him and it’s not that there was a gap in chris’s life, a hole needing a parent or something, but. having another person love you this much, this fast, this completely? like a friend and a dad? without ever needing the biological connection chris’d been counting on to make a convincing case for having a relationship? it’s pretty fucking sweet
have not actually thought about the buck and eddie of it much... just buck falling in love with chris instantly

Tumblr media
Shit. Shit. Shit. We are so fucking late.
“Dustin!” I yell, the tooth brush hanging between my lips. “Get up, we’re gonna be late!” I hear a loud groan as I finish brushing my teeth and wipe my mouth off.
Right as I’m about to bust up into Dustin’s room I hear our house phone start ringing. Sighing, I run to the kitchen and grabbed the phone before it stopped ringing. “Hello?”
“Hi, Y/n, it’s Joyce.”
“Oh, hi, Mrs. Byers.”
“I was wondering if Will spent the night at your house last night?”
Confused I reply, “Uh, no ma’am. He biked off to your house once Dustin and I got home from Mikes. We left a little after eight, why? He’s not home?”
“Uh,” Mrs. Byers starts off, “You know what? I think he just left early for...for school. Thank you so much. Bye.”
“Oh, ok, by-” I try to respond, but she hangs up before I can finish my sentence. ‘That was odd.’ I thought before hanging the phone up.
Walking to Dustin’s room I slam open the door and the first thing I see is the drool running down his chin. “Dude, get the hell up and get dressed.” I say as I rip the blankets off of him. “Mom will be pissed if she gets a call from the school saying that we were late...again.”
“I’m up, I’m up.” He groans, getting up and walking to his closet.
“Good, I’m gonna fix us a quick breakfast and by the time I’m done you better be ready to head out the door.” He rolls his eyes murmuring a ‘yeah, yeah’ before I walk out of his room, heading to the kitchen.
After feeding Mews and fixing Dustin and I a pop-tart, I head to my room to grab my keys and my bag. Mine and Dustins rooms are right beside each others making the wall behind our beds connected to each other. When Dustin was little he would have these little nightmares, so he would knock three times on the wall and, since I’m a light sleeper, it would wake me up. So, being the amazing big sister I am, I would go in there and hold him until he went back to sleep. I eventually would end up falling asleep along side him. I slam my fist on the wall behind my bed. “Hurry the hell up dipshit! You have three minutes until I’m leaving your ass here.”
“I’m coming!” He yells, exiting his room at the same time I exit mine. I throw him his pop-tart, making him stumble with his jacket and book-bag. Dropping both items in the process. I laugh at the clumsy tween in front of me. I walk out of the house, Dustin soon on my trail, and get into my car reeving the engine. Right as he shuts his door I put the car in reverse and speed off to school.
_____________
“Mom’s gonna have your ass if she finds out how fast you just went. Especially in the school zone.” Dustin says, a mischievous grin on his face.
Parking at the middle school to let him out, I roll my eyes looking at my little brother. “What the hell do I have to do now?”
“I won’t tell mom that you were going fifty in a twenty-five if you give me the Marvel Chris Claremont and Frank Miller’s Wolverine.”
“What?! No?! That took me six months to get and it was hella expensive. No way, think of something else.”  I say, rolling up my window before I head to the high school.
Opening the door to get out of the car, he shrugs his bag on, the same evil grin on his toothless face. “Then I guess when we get home moms gonna find out and your gonna be in deep shit.”
“Okay, okay!” I yell, right before he slams the door shut. “I’ll give it to you.” He throws his fist up in victory. “But,” I start, and the happy smiles slowly goes down once he knows whats coming. “Just remember...payback is a bitch.”
“Well, shit.” I hear him whisper before he slams the door shut and I speed off to go park at the high school.
As I’m walking to my first period class, I have to ignore the usual stares I get from the assholes of students in this Godforsaken high school. I don’t really get along with anybody in this school except for maybe Nancy Wheeler and Barb Holland. It’s not that I don’t want friends it’s just that people either think I’m weird or I’m hot. And when they think I’m weird they don’t stick around for long, but when they think I’m hot they just use me to get with one of the many guys that I have rejected here.
“Good morning, Y/n.”
I jump from the surprise of another persons voice as I unlock my locker. Once I notice it was Barb who greeted me, my nerves slowly calm down.
“Good morning Barb, Nancy.” I say as I notice Nancy taking out her Chemistry book. “Don’t worry about Kaminsky’s test. You’ll-we’ll do fine on it.”
“Thanks.” She says, a nervous laugh following up. “You’ve been nervous for it too?” She asks after a few seconds.
“Oh, definitely. His tests are impossible, no matter how high someones GPA is.” I say laughing along with her. “But, come on Nance, you’re the smartest person I know, you’ll be fine.” I glance over to the inside of her locker and notice a folded up piece of paper. “Oh, now what is this.” I quickly grab the paper before she can protest. “ ‘Meet me. Bathroom. -Steve.’ Gross, thank God I know exactly where I won’t be before class.”
She snatches the paper from my hand and puts it in her pocket, a blush slowly appearing on her face.
“You were saying?” Barb says. Which I’m guessing is from their previous conversation.
“I’ll see you guys later.” Nancy says, before closing her locker and rushing off to the girls bathroom.
“Have fun Nancy, we all know you will!” I yell out to her, Barb smacking my arm, but eventually she, too, was laughing at my remark.

Halfway through Kaminsky’s review packet of the test. The principal walks in interrupting the class.
“Mr. Kaminsky, may I see Ms. Y/n Henderson, please. This will only take a moment.” The principal asks.
Kaminsky nods to me. I put my packet into my binder and grab my bag. Once I’m out of the room I see the Chief of police. Jim Hopper.
“Um, what is this about?” I ask the chief.
“I’ll explain once we get to the office. We just have to ask you a few questions about last night.” He replies as we start to walk to the office.
“It’s about Will, isn’t it? Joyce called me this morning before Dustin and I went to school.” I admit as we walk into the office. When we all have taken our assigned seats, he grabs a note pad and starts to ask the questions.
“Can you tell us everything that happened last night? You were at the Wheelers house, I believe?” He starts off.
“Yes, well I wasn’t there as long as the boys but I was there around eight to eight thirty-ish. I went to go pick up my little brother, Dustin.”
“And did you take him in your car or...?”
“No, I drove behind him, Lucas, and Will to make sure they got home. Lucas got home first, then me and Dustin. Wait. Did Will not make it to his house last night?” I asked, cause now that I think about it, I didn’t follow him to make sure he got home safely.
“No, he did not. And now we are trying to locate him. Do you know what road he takes home?” He asks, placing his hat on his head.
“Yeah,” I say, starting to get nervous for absolutely no reason. “The boys call the road Mirkwood. It’s from The Hobbit.”
Sighing, the chief stands up. “Yeah, that’s exactly what the three boys told me. You’re excused Ms. Henderson. Thank you for your help. When you get out of school, you head straight home and make sure your little brother stays put. We don’t need three more boys going missing because they were too stubborn to listen.”
“Yes sir.” I say as he walks out with his lieutenant in tow. As the principal dismissed me back to class, there was only one thing on my mind. Knowing the boys, those three little shit heads were gonna get themselves in trouble by going out to search for Will. Great, now I gotta be their damn babysitter.
--------------
A/n: Just btw, it might seem that the reader is mean to Dustin but when I write them together it’s like a brother/sister kind of love. or a love/hate relationship lol. I didn’t want anybody to think I’m hating on Dustin, I would never, he’s one of my favorite characters! Anyways, hope ya’ll liked it, enjoy! <3

Watching him grow unhinged is my fav, n that smile with his son ahhhhh I can’t wait for the next season. the dude that plays him does it so naturally that his unhinged smile alone sends chills down my spine.
Omfg no way I just googled it to see when Netflix was gonna be dropping that. This just made my day.
Metal event really dragged but ya know they hadda connect a lotta dots for it to make sense so I get it from a writers perspective.
Dawn breakers oath sent chills down my spine when I first read it n when he surpassed the limiter freakin amazing. I remember gripping the novel hard as hell when I got to that part.
They truly fumbled the bag with Doombreaker. There was just nothing really new done with that character they coulda done a lot more.
Also I haven’t started reading it yet, but there’s this sci-fi comic called 8 Billion Genies n I’m so excited to read it cuz the concept is so unique.
Your gonna want a shark tooth necklace after watching n chanting it’s name
Lmaooo, yeah!! Antony Starr really knocks it out of the park it with the unhinged smile, literally A+ for him there. Honestly when I first started watching the show I wasn't completely sold on him as Homelander, but now?? Now I'm like "Yeah no he's perfect." I'm SO hyped for this next season.
Yeah!! As far as I know there's no confirmed air date yet, but it's super exciting to even just know that it's something that's going to be in the works.
Lmao yeah that is true, there was a LOT of things to tie together. From a reader POV tho...OOF. I am still a little salty though that the Batman who Laughs got so much focus/was made the main big bad of the event, esp when they had literal bat god of the dark multiverse Barbatos; who, personally, I absolutely lOVED the concept of+how he tied into Batman becoming Batman—not to mention the Dark Knights event before metals kicked off with him as the true big bad behind everything...and then in Metals they literally just chained him in the basement of Castle bat, and then took BwL and made him god-level by turning him into the Darkest Knight. Like!! There was ALREADY an evil bat god!! 😭 The BwL didn't have to do through that whole weird transformation where they took his brain and put it into Batmanhattan for him to become the Darkest Knight, lmao.
But yess!! It was honestly SO cool seeing that the Dawnbreaker's willpower was literally sO strong that he was able to overpower the GL ring, and warp it into s/t dark.
Lmao yeah. Honestly, I find Doombreaker to be, one of the lesser interesting of Superman's villains, but, you would think that by mashing him up with Batman, they could have really done something with that version of him at least to make him more interesting and they just... really didn't. All the rest of the Dark Knights were at least marginally cool concepts and then were was...him. He really didn't stand out in comparison to any of the others.
I've read 8 Billion Genies! I quite liked it!
Lmaooo.

32. “Well, it’s a good thing I don’t plan on doing that.”
-----------------------
Parting from your friends was never easy. Ever since you had run away from home with your sister, Team Avatar had become a surrogate family, and you wouldn’t have it any other way. Toph was a whirlwind in her own way, but Aang, Katara, and Sokka all got her in ways that your parents never had, not to mention how you were finally able to be yourself away from the world of Earth Kingdom nobility. You couldn’t offer Aang any of the earthbending wisdom you sister had in spades, but your skill with blades made you a valuable asset nonetheless.
That connection made it so much harder to separate.
After leaving Gaoling, you had never been apart from the group for longer than a couple of days. But visiting your mother would take at least a week, not to mention everyone else was going off in their own directions — Aang to visit a guru to help control the Avatar State, Sokka to see his dad, Katara staying in the city to aid the Earth King. You would all be saying goodbye for an unprecedented amount of time.
To put it in simple terms? You were freaking out.
You and Toph had gone against direct orders from your parents to join the Avatar, and no sooner had you earned the support of the Earth King when you found out about the letter from your mother. It was.. strange, to say the least.
As Beifongs, you were held to impossible standards, and what the two of you did broke every single one of them. You were skeptical when you first read the letter to Toph, but she was so excited at the possibility of your parents finally coming to accept the two of you that you couldn’t say no.
After taking care of last minute affairs, you ended up back in your room to begin packing. You and your sister would be making the journey on foot, so you wanted to be prepared for anything that could happen — you might’ve just been going through the Upper Ring, but you had come to not discount anything in Ba Sing Se.
You finished folding the last of Toph’s clothes and closed the bag, and at that moment you heard a knock on the door. “It’s open!” you called as you moved onto your own pack. You glanced up to see your visitor, and the corner of your lips quirked up when you saw it was Sokka.
“Hey, you.”
“Hey yourself,” he said as he shut the door behind him. “Listen, do you have a moment to talk? Before you leave, I mean. I know you’re on a tight schedule and all.”
“I always have a moment for you.” You set another article of clothing in your bag and clapped your hands together softly as you turned to face him. “What’s up?”
“I’ve been thinking a lot about where you’re going. You know, you and Toph going to see your mom.”
“Oh, yeah. Exciting, isn’t it? It’ll be an interesting meeting.” You chuckled, a notion lacking in mirth. “Wonder what she’s going to say after we gave up our entire lives to help the Avatar without their permission.”
“Just.. whatever goes on, be safe, okay? If you get hurt out there, I don’t know what I’ll do.”
The sincerity in his voice shocked you a bit, but you gave him a light punch on the shoulder, choosing to shoot back in your usual joking manner. “Well, it’s a good thing I don’t plan on doing that.”
“I’m serious, Y/N.”
You smiled and shrugged as you folded another tunic and placed it into your bag. “Sokka, we’re just going to the edge of the upper ring. You have nothing to worry about!”
He sighed and shook his head. “Look. I don’t have the best track record with people that I’m close to. I couldn’t save my mom, and I couldn’t protect our tribe, and I couldn’t save Yue. It’s like the moment I start to care about anyone, something bad happens to them, and I can’t do anything to stop it. And now you’re going off to the city to see your mom, and even though it’s so close, I just can’t shake this feeling, and I— I don’t know what I’ll do with myself if something happens to you too.”
Your brows creased as the full weight of his words hit you. “Sokka.. are you saying what I think you’re saying?”
He stepped closer and took your hands in his, those ocean eyes holding a softness you had never seen before. “I care about you, Y/N, so much that it hurts. So I know it sounds ridiculous, but I need you to promise me that you’ll come home safe.”
There was only a moment’s hesitation before you tugged on his hands to bring him even closer, your eyes fluttering shut as your lips met his.
“I care about you too,” you responded quietly, a small smile gracing your features. “And I promise I’ll be safe. Just for you.”
“Good.” He smiled as well and gave you another soft kiss, one that quickly became more heated as you got lost in each other. You could feel the pure emotion, the sadness, that he poured into it, and that feeling made you want to give this boy everything in the world. You had almost tuned out the world completely until the door was pushed open and Aang’s voice rang through the air.
“Sokka, are you almost ready? I saw you come in h— oh, spirits, I’m so sorry!”
You and Sokka immediately separated, jumping apart from each other so quickly you nearly tripped over your own feet. You quickly gathered yourself and leaned against the table your bags were set on, giving Aang an easy-going smile in an attempt to cover up your breathlessness.
“Aang!” Your voice was unnaturally high as you used your hands to talk. “He was just… checkin’ in on me. Making sure that I was ready. Just.. nothing going on here. Just.. two friends.. bein’ friends. And.. gettin’ ready. As friends.”
You could hear Sokka snort behind you as he tried to keep his composure as well — Aang, meanwhile, was as red as a fire ferret as he began to back away.
“You know, I can just come back later! Or you can come to me, Sokka. Whenever you’re ready. I won’t tell anyone, I promise!” He gave you guys one last slightly panicked smile then darted off, causing the two of you to dissolve into laughter.
You glanced at Sokka with a shy smile as you felt your cheeks burning up, and that just made him laugh even harder. “Think he’ll keep that promise?”
You sighed happily and shrugged. “You know what? I don’t even care. And I think I’ll try extra hard to stay alive if it means there’s more kisses like that in the future.”
Sokka gave you a heart-melting smile and walked over to the door. “Just come home safe, and you’ll get all the kisses you want.”

Tumblr media
early summer afternoons were warm.
bright rays of the sun were showering on your skin as you lounged on the park bench, hot enough to make you feel the season but not too hot to singe your skin. it was the perfect weather to waste the day outside, and your younger brother and cousin decided to haul you outside so they can play basketball at the park.
but you didn't know why your friend jeno decided to come along.
"your brother messaged me," he grinned at you, plopping down beside you with a long, refreshed sigh. a towel was slung around his neck and he used it to wipe the sweat on his face. "what? why are you staring at me like that?"
"since when were you close with my brother?"
"am i not allowed to be friends with the little guy?" he joked, but apparently he took the unamused look on your face completely the wrong way. "oh my god, are you afraid that he'll take all my attention away from you?" to further tease, he brought his smug face closer to yours that was dumbfounded in shock, his stupidly irritating smile moving in closer.
sometimes you wondered if this was the same boy who helped you cross the street the first time you met.
but you loved him nonetheless.
"like hell i want your attention," you sneered, lightly shoving him away with a glare. he only laughed at your display of annoyance. "go back to playing with the kids or something, you goof."
the never leaving grin in his face seemed brighter against the sun, and he playfully ruffled your hair before running off to disappear into the court.
"as you wish, m'lady."
you let out a huff of air, rolling your eyes as your cheeks were involuntary tugged upwards, prompting a smile to form on your lips. you brought your hands to your hair, fixing the mess that jeno left with, and your gaze landed on the phone he left beside you. the screen flashed on. someone was calling him.
brows knitted together, you picked up the ringing phone, unable to recognize the caller id. you brought the device to your ear, standing up walking towards the court— you figured that you'd just answer whoever that was now and just pass it on to jeno once he was at reach.
"hello?"
"oh, hello there!" there was a pause from the caller "is lee jeno around, miss? would you mind giving the phone to him?"
the voice was that of a middle aged woman's, but it wasn't someone that you recognized. you assumed it was a relative of his or something because you'd know that this was his mom if it were her. "ah, give me a moment! i'll just look for him."
your feet stopped at the edge of the court, the sound of a ball bouncing into the concrete jarring against your ears. not bothering to look at the scene in front if you, you covered the mic with your hand before deciding to shout.
"jeno! someone's calling you!"
there was no usual prompt answer from your friend.
"he's not here!"
the loud voice of your brother answered instead, causing you to narrow your eyes into the court scene with a tinge of confusion masking your expression. there was indeed no mop of blue hair within the area, and you were only confused even further.
"where did he— aish, nevermind."
scratching your head, you swiveled your heels and decided to just head back to the bench. "hi, sorry. i'm not sure where he is right now. so if it's fine with you, can you call him again later? or maybe i could just tell him to call you back when he returns?"
"oh, then can you just relay this to him? it won't take that long, i promise."
you inwardly sighed, but agreed nevertheless. oh, you were definitely gonna ask him to treat you and the kids dinner later. why the fuck did he just disappear like that? now you were responsible for memorizing whatever this woman was telling you (apparently it was about an architecture summer program he was interested in— the lady was a head from his department and she was just calling to tell him that he was accepted. she says she'll be forwarding more details later through text).
"alright, thank you! i'll be sure to inform him when he gets back."
the call ended, and you groaned. you were about to close the phone, but then all of a sudden a notification appeared with a quiet ding!
[haechan 🌟 liked your retweet.]
ding!
[ohhh shit why do i feel like i know who this is.]
"huh."
you knew that you shouldn't be snooping inside your friend's phone. you knew that you shouldn't be invading his privacy no matter how enticingly juicy the bait was. you knew that it was flat out wrong. but—
"ah, just a peek," you clicked on the notification. "payback for making me deal with his stuff."
a hint of excitement rushed through you. jeno never told you his twitter. actually, you didn't even know he had one. he was always buried with studies, sports, and friends so you didn't expect him to keep up with social media— this fact enough was surprising, but the moment the screen finally loaded the tweet
you were even more surprised than you were a few seconds ago.
[@markly tweeted: "it's kind of funny how sometimes we just meet random people at the most random of moments and you don't expect it but they just end up sticking by your side until now"]
[@leejeno quoted: "yeah. a few years back, i saw this girl while i was walking. it wasn't the usual path that i took to school. i saw her having trouble crossing the street because there was a dog hanging around (she's scared of them) so i decided to help her. she couldn't even look at my face back then out of embarrassment but earlier we were calling until four in the morning. if i took a different path that day or if i didn't help her, i don't know how i'd be like right now because she's become one of the most important people in my life."]
your heart skipped a beat. two beats. three. it was running a mile a minute and you could barely even breathe to catch up.
[@do0 replied: how are you two right now?]
[@leejeno replied: "we're good haha. i'm going with her and her brother to the park later. we're still really good friends.]
[@leejeno replied: but i'm not sure if i want things to stop there."]
"hey, sorry for running off there. i went to get some— whoa. whats up?"
oh my fucking god.
you shot up, eyes wide, and you automatically turned off the phone. broken stutters left your lips, as the leaping of your heart to your throat prevented you from saying even a semblance of a coherent sentence. all you could think of when you met his worried gaze, the way he rushed to your side to check on you, was the last thing you read. your grip on his phone tightened.
but i'm not sure if i want things to stop there
you were gonna fucking lose it.
"hey, are you okay?"
quick, gentle hands landed on your cheeks, fingers brushing against your skin like a match igniting a flame. you nearly got lost and tongue-tied all over again, but you quickly slapped his hands away in a scolding fit. "jesus christ, i'm fine. you just surprised me. are you a ghost or something?" you glared at jeno, but it only lasted one second because you couldn't bear to look at him without your insides going crazy. because of that, your eyes flicked to the plastic bag he dropped onto the bench. he brought you something to eat.
"a-and before you ask—" you defended yourself indignantly when he didn't even accuse you of anything. "i wasn't snooping. the school called. it was about your summer program. you got in."
"oh? they called already?" you nodded. "ah, let's talk while walking— the kids are mad because i only got you food. they're asking me to buy the entire store for them to compensate," he released an airy laugh. you mentally scolded yourself.
keep it cool. you repeated the mantra inside your head as you strided beside jeno, your brother and cousin racing ahead of you. street lights were lighting up and the sky was fading into the night. cool cool cool cool cool. keep it cool.
the walk to the store felt way too gruelling than it normally would. it wasn't even that far. you told jeno everything the lady had told you, including the more detailed texts that she'd be sending later on. you thought that he'd be a lot more excited after hearing— he was interested, after all. but to you, he just seemed dismissive. "should i go?" he mindlessly asked.
"what are you talking about?" your brows furrowed. "yeah, of course. you wanted to, right?"
"but it's gonna last an entire month this summer," he yawed, stretching out his arms and hooking you by the neck, causing you to halt and stumble into him. you held back a squeak, and he looked at you, eyes gleaming with curious anticipation. a car sped by. "you still want me to go?"
those damned words that you read echoed inside your head again. you wondered if it resonated into the fucking nerves of your heart, as well.
"i—i mean," you stammered. "it's only one month. and it would also help you a lot in the future, right? you'd make a lot of connections during the camp. so yeah, i do want you to go."
he blinked at you. a hum sounded from his closed lips. he let go of you and resumed walking. you gaped when he left you behind.
was this karma?
"hey, what the hell?" quickly, you caught up to him, grabbing onto the sleeve of his shirt so that you could hang on to him. "why are you being sulky? i didn't do anything wrong!" technically you did do something wrong, but he didn't have to know that.
"you said you wanted me to go."
"you're a baby," you scrunched your nose is disapproval. "i only said that because you said you wanted to go."
jeno abruptly stopped. maybe you were causing a scene in front of all the passersby, but you really didn't give a fuck anymore when your head was in a looped up mess. all thanks to your extremely difficult friend who apparently doesn't want to just be your friend. you swore that he was driving you insane on purpose.
he pulled out his phone and faced the screen to you. your sweat dropped.
[@leejeno replied: but i'm not sure if i want things to stop there."]
"even after reading this," he started. "you still want me to go?"
"w-well."
he just had to be so fucking sharp. well, you weren't exactly slick either. maybe he saw a glimpse of the screen before you got to turn it off earlier. heat started to rise from your neck into your face, a grinding mixture of embarrassment and desire to be hit by a moving truck afflicting your nerves. why were you the one suffering? shouldn't it be him?
"no."
he hummed, turning off his phone and shoving the device into his pocket. arms crossed, he leaned in to your face, bearing a look of feigned innocence. "but you said i'd make a lot of useful connections."
"you can make those anywhere."
"and it's only a month, right?"
"that's thirty days too long."
"and—"
"oh, come on!" you exclaimed, balling your fists in vexation. another car sped by with an accompanied honk. jeno simply wore a look of faint amusement at your little outburst. "i don't want you to join your stupid summer program. happy now?"
"well, if you say so."
you stared at him. he patted your head, eyes disappearing into a pair of crescents with a smile.
"i'll take your word for it and no one else's."
you were left frozen and dumbfounded in the middle of the sidewalk as jeno brazenly spun his heels to chase after the runaway kids that went before you— literally leaving you behind. letting a curse slip past your breath, you also went after them. he was definitely driving you insane on purpose.
sometimes you wondered if this was the same boy who helped you cross the street the first time you met.
this was one of those times.
"you said you weren't gonna go, you asshole!"
"payback for snooping through my phone!"
but you could still love him nonetheless.

butterfly effect: one
Tumblr media
His mouth is slightly ajar, surely shocked to be seeing the girl of his past so far from where he had left her. I myself try to compute what I am seeing, but my brain is running so fast from the adrenaline, the gravity of what is occurring hardly registers.
It’s Harry, and he’s here and the two of you need to get out of there right now.
Word Count: 6k+
Includes: mob!h, mentions of blood, scary dudes late at night, and the set up for my favourite story I’ve ever written!
A/N: guys I am so excited about this story! I swear writing this is the only thing holding me together (so don’t let it flop lmao). It is 2AM pray for me.
My inbox is open for anyone who wants to chat about this series! I love to gab, and constructive criticism is very much appreciated. I want this to be as good as possible!!
butterfly effect masterlist // my masterlist
now
It is not until it is already too late that I realise I should have just ordered an uber.
Alex was very insistent that I order one home from my late shift at the pub. He had even offered to split the cost, knowing without needing to ask this was the cause of my hesitation. It wasn’t that I couldn’t afford it. Strictly speaking, I could. I was just keenly aware of the amount of material I could buy with the amount a late night uber in London would cost me. I would never take him up on his offer. He needed the money just as much as I did.
“It’s okay, I’m good for it,” I gave him a little smile. He was sitting in front of his mirror in his room, midway through getting ready for work. I had simply come to say goodbye before I left for my shift when he had grabbed me by the hand and demanded I ordered an uber home.
“Babe, you have to promise me.”
“I promise!” I stared exaggeratedly into his eyes as I spoke, emphasising my honesty.
In that moment, I made peace with the money I would be losing from my fabric budget. I calculated this budget, of course, by subtracting living expenses from my weekly income. My best friend wanted to make sure I got home safe, wanted the peace of mind while he was working that I would be fine. Who was I to say no to that?
“Make sure you text me when you get into the uber and once you make it up to the apartment.” My chest flooded with warmth at the love and care in his voice. It was moments like these I really sat back and thanked my lucky stars that Alex was in my life.
So, of course I was just going to bite the bullet and order the uber. Of course.
Except, well.
I couldn’t help but think how quickly I got from our place to work. We had picked the apartment just one short month ago, heavily considering the advantage of its walking distance to my work. The King’s Arms was just one block up and down the road. It was barely a fifteen-minute walk. Shorter than that if I took the shortcut down the alleyway back to our block, saving me from walking further down the road and looping back around. It would probably take me longer to get home via uber, once you account for the time spent waiting for it to arrive.
A ten-minute walk home wouldn’t kill me, surely.
The contemplation was pushed from my mind for the duration of my busy Saturday night shift. It was my least favourite shift of the week, as I spent each week chasing after middle aged men getting rowdy in the excitement of watching whatever sport was on TV. The King’s Arm was small, but it was a local favourite known for its homey pub meals, reasonably priced pints and good atmosphere. Much to my contempt they didn’t keep a large staff pool, preferring a smaller, well-trained, reliable bunch. Which was great in theory until it left me to run around like my hair is on fire on a night as busy as tonight.
I was capable of serving everyone well and in a timely manner, but it wasn’t exactly a stroll in the park. More like a seven-hour long sprint, with a half hour break in the middle.
As the final game for the night ended, the crowd slowly but surely thinned until just a couple of small groups remained.
“Hey y/n, are you okay to lock up by yourself if I head home in five?” my manager, Rachel asked me half an hour before close. “I have some time I need to take back,” she added in explanation.
“Of course, you go get out of here.” I knew she wasn’t lying when she said she had some time to take back, putting in all sorts of extra hours to keep the place in tip top shape. I liked Nicola, and I had certainly been working there long enough to handle a couple of customers and lock up by myself. Even if I didn’t like Rachel and thought she was slacking off, I couldn’t exactly argue. She was both my boss and the owner’s daughter, probably not far off becoming the owner herself.
“Are you sure?” She asked, eyeing the few men still seated, probably triple checking she didn’t think they were any kind of threat.
“Yes,” I laughed, “now scram, before I change my mind.”
“Alright if you insist,” she said, already making her way towards her bag.
“Ring me if you need anything! Good night!” She called over her shoulder as she exited through the kitchen door. The cook had gone home ten minutes earlier, the pub serving only drinks the hour before close at midnight.
“Night!” I called back.
I made quick work of what little cleaning there was left to do, and gently reminded the remaining patrons we closed in half an hour. To my surprise they were agreeable and friendly, one of them instantly assuring me, “Don’t worry love we’ll be out of your hair soon, won’t make you stay back late.”
Usually the kind of people that were in the pub this late had no care for closing time, believing that pertained simply to whenever they decided they wanted to leave.
True to his word, everyone was out with ten minutes to spare and I was able to clean their dishes and tables with the remaining time they had granted me. I locked the door to The King’s Arms at 12 o’clock on the dot and riding the high of such an easy close, took not a moment in deciding I was in fact going to walk home.
To Alex: Just ordered an uber!
I felt guilty lying, but I would rather lie than have Alex worrying over nothing. I would be home in a flash, keys secured firmly in between my knuckles the whole way. I felt far safer on the move than waiting out the front of work for an uber anyway.
I kept a fast pace, left only to debate whether I took my shortcut or stuck to the street. I checked over my shoulder, and seeing absolutely no one around, made a quick right turn into the alleyway between two buildings.
I grabbed my phone from my back pocket as I heard the ding of a text notification. I glance down at my screen, reading as I walk.
From Alex: Amazing! I should be home in a couple hours, text me when you get home safe. Love you x
I don’t register the hushed growling tones as I continue making my way down the alley, still looking down at my phone as I type a simple ‘love you’ in reply. It isn’t uncommon to hear the conversations of tenants on the lower levels of these apartment buildings as you walk down the street. Walls are thin and many windows generally left open. It is easy to consign this particular conversation among the other non-threatening city sounds until I eventually look back up from my phone.
I am immediately faced with a most unfavourable scene, under the single light that illuminates this alley, are the two men who I now recognise to be the source of the argument I had barely registered. The first man is tall, dressed in all black, thick muscles protruding through his t-shirt. He towered over the second man who contrasted him starkly in his bright red adidas tracksuit. The tall man’s presence would be dominating the space, even if he didn’t have his dark forearm pressed firmly against the smaller man’s throat.
I clamp a hand over my mouth, stopping myself from yelping stupidly and drawing attention to myself. They haven’t noticed my presence. A witness to whatever it was that was occurring here.
“See all I’m hearing is excuses, bruv,” the tall man’s accent is distinctly that of someone from South London. His tone is aggressive, but even. He knows he has the upper hand and it is clearly not his first rodeo threatening people. This is exactly the kind of person I could’ve avoided encountering by simply ordering an uber.
I snap out of my shocked daze and start to turn to make a swift and stealthy departure. I’m no fool. I know there is a definitive gang presence around here. I also know, if you leave them alone, they too shall (hopefully)leave you. All hopes of making such an exit are of course foiled as soon as my foot connects with an empty beer bottle on my first step.
The two men’s heads snap towards me instantly. I expect the shorter man to ask for help, to say something, but his mouth remains clamped shut. Gang business. He is in a bigger mess than someone like me can ever save him from. The taller man’s eyes narrow. After the briefest moments of standing there frozen, caught, I spin on my heel and run as fast as my feet can carry me.
I run back to the route I should have taken, cursing myself all the way for being naïve enough to believe that nothing bad could happen to me on something as simple as a walk home from work. That women who were raped, kidnapped and murdered from off the street were somehow removed from me. That was something only on the news in my world. Not something that was possibly about to occur.
My heart hammers in my chest as I make the split-second decision, I am safer running all the way home than running as far as I can from the scene of the crime. I’m going to run all the way up the stairs to my fifth-floor apartment, and I am going to lock the door behind me. I turn the corner back up to my block, not slowing down for a second.
I am so quick in fact, that as I come flying around the next corner towards my apartment, I nearly barrel straight into someone. He was clearly walking with some pace too, because he narrowly prevents us crashing into each other head on, but he is a second too slow in his reaction time because I trip straight over his feet. I hardly even see him, even as I am falling straight over him. All I see is brown hair and a dark suit before I’m staring straight at the pavement flying towards my face. I barely manage to throw my forearms out to break my fall as I hit the pavement at speed.
“Jesus,” the man mutters, but the only thing I can hear is my heavy breathing and my own blood pounding in my ears.
I’m on the ground now, I register for a second before my flight response kicks back in.
I don’t even feel the sting of the scrapes with the adrenaline coursing through me, already attempting to scramble up and get as far away as possible from this stranger. “I’m so sorry!” I manage to call as I pick myself and my keys up, gearing up to get moving once more.
“Honey?”
No. It absolutely could not possibly be. There was only one person on this planet who had ever called me by that name.
I stop dead in my tracks. That voice. It’s deeper than I remember but undoubtedly familiar. Familiar seems too simple a word. That voice had echoed around the halls of my brain for years. Even now, six years later, it was not gone but buried, waiting for a simple trigger to spark my memory and bring that beautiful sound back to the forefront my mind. Some days I swear I remembered it like I had just heard it moments ago.
Except now, I really had heard him.
Slowly, I turned to face him.
Before he can verbalise any of the questions on the tip of his tongue, I grab his hand in my own, and yank him forward as I continue running home.
Realistically, I know that we now outnumber whoever it was that may be coming after me and I know even six years since I’ve last seen him, I am always safe with Harry. He proved that in many ways, and more than once, while I knew him. I was not, however, willing to risk the tall man pulling a knife on Harry. I didn’t even want to put him in a situation where it was a battle of fists. Though I did know from experience he could more than hold his own.
“What’s going on?” he yells as we run down the street, rapidly approaching the exit of the alleyway I had fled.
I gradually reduce our pace until we are speed-walking past the alleyway. Tempted as I am to see if they are still there, I keep my eyes trained forward, praying they aren’t there watching us as we pass by.
As soon as we have cleared it, I’m straight back to my running pace, forcing Harry to accelerate speed once more.
“I’ll explain inside,” I call over my shoulder in answer to his earlier question.
Now that I felt a degree safer with Harry’s presence, I had the capacity to feel thankful I had opted for a boiler suit and converse for tonight to accommodate for the Saturday night rush. This run would have been hell if I had worn a skirt and a heeled boot instead.
“Inside where?” He’s laughing as he speaks and as the fear loosens its grip on me, the déjà vu begins to battle for dominance. That laugh had brightened my every day for long enough to leave a mark on my soul. Fleeting as it was, that single sound reignited the shine it had once left.
His question was answered when we came to a screeching halt in front of my apartment. It took me two tries to input my security code correctly, my brain and hands both moving quickly, but not quite matching up. Eventually, the door clicked, and I was able to swing it open, tugging Harry in after me.
I didn’t stop dragging him along behind me until we had taken all five flights of stairs up to my apartment two at a time.
“y/n…” he attempted to grab my attention when we first entered the building, but I was not to be deterred until we had reached the absolute safety of my apartment. I shushed him, not wanting to receive a noise complaint from my new neighbours. I supposed having such a thought was a good sign, my consciousness beginning to register it was not in any imminent danger.
I huffed and puffed as we landed at the doorstep of apartment 5B, the place I loved to call home. Harry, I noticed, was barely short of breath. He had always been a runner when we were in high school. I wondered if he kept up the habit even now.
My hands shook as I located the correct key on my chain, body still shaking from the excitement of the events of the past five minutes. I struggled to align the key with the lock with my left hand, unthinking of the fact my right was still firmly in Harry’s hold.
“Let me,” he murmured, already moving his right hand to take the key. I said nothing, simply surrendering it over to him.
His hands were steady as anything as he turned the key, granting us entrance into my home. I released a breath I didn’t realise I had been holding. I finally stopped just past the door, my back to Harry as he shut it behind him. I took a few deep breaths, trying so desperately to ground myself.
Was any of this even real? The sketchy characters I could believe in a heartbeat, Harry Styles’ presence, however, was harder to grasp.
But there his hand was, in my own, even if I couldn’t see him.
Harry stood back and let me take this moment to myself, keenly aware of how much I needed it. He knew I needed to take pause and re-centre myself otherwise I would only shut down. He was also aware of my injured state though, even if I wasn’t.
“y/n, you’re bleeding.”
“Oh,” my head snapped back to look at my arm. In the rush to get home, the blood from the scrapes on my arm had run down my arm and dripped into our connected hands. I quickly released my grasp on him. “Jesus, I’m sorry.”
“A little bit of blood never hurt anyone,” he quickly dismissed. “Unless you’re the one that’s bleeding, in which case you better get cleaned up as soon as possible.
“Luckily you have me here to play nurse. Just lead the way to the nearest bathroom,” he gave me a little cheeky grin, clearly trying to lift your spirits. The subtle playfulness is not as natural as it once was, but it is certainly reminiscent of our old dynamic. The surrealism of this whole thing goes straight to my head, clouding my ability to form full, coherent thoughts.
Somehow, I manage to come out with, “I think you mean our only bathroom,” in response.
He grunts a laugh, but he hasn’t missed the use of the word our.
I walk like a zombie, leading him through the hallway past the living room and the kitchen to the bathroom. I hold my forearms up in an attempt to redirect the flow of the blood and prevent it from dripping from my fingertips onto the floor. As I slowly came out of survival mode, my awareness of the stinging of my forearms became increasingly prominent. I was sure my hip and knees were going to be bruised pretty badly too. I really hadn’t managed to slow down at all before all my momentum came crashing into the cement.
“Do you have a first aid kit?” He asks upon our arrival to the bathroom.
“Under the sink.”
My eyes trail over the mess Alex and I had left in our rush to get ready.
I tend to procrastinate getting ready for as long as possible, busying myself with just about anything else. Generally, it will be tidying up the mess I’ve made during the day, only for me to create a whole new one in my hurry to get ready for my shift on time. Alex on the other hand, always leaves plenty of time to perfect his look before leaving for the night. Despite having the time to do so, he never cleans as he goes. Leaving his many products and deliberated outfits spread far and wide. Luckily most of his mess was confined to his bedroom, the only trace of him in the bathroom skincare and hair products (though there wasn’t a limited amount of those, either).
“I’m sorry for the mess,” I speak quietly watching Harry get his bearings, standing helplessly as I bled, hands still raised.
“Nonsense,” he doesn’t look at me as he speaks, jumping into action.
Harry turns the faucet on in the sink before opening the cupboard door and grabbing the first aid kid out. It was actually sort of a miracle Alex and I had one. It had been on a list of “Things You Need for a New Apartment” I had googled, scared we were missing important things. At the time, I had deliberated longer than necessary over whether to get one. I couldn’t remember the last time I had required anything more than a band aid for any given ailment. The deciding factor had been the memory of Alex getting into a couple of scrapes while out over the years. It had never been anything major, the worst injury he ever sustained being a bruised jaw, but it was better to be safe than sorry, I decided.
Turns out, that decision was for the best.
He gently touches his fingertips to my right arm, which had copped the brunt of it. With the softest touch, he delicately guided my arm under the stream of water. As I stepped forward to lean over the sink and wash away the dirt of the footpath, he stepped backwards, giving me my space.
I winced at the initial contact of the water as it ran red. I risked a glance at my reflection. Sweaty brow, the light lazy work makeup I had applied half off my face. I quickly diverted my gaze back to my injured arm. This was not exactly how I pictured our reunion. I had hardly ever even pictured it, I was so sure that I would never see Harry again.
I wondered if this silence was as heavy as I thought it was. Everything about him felt so familiar, yet so different. Up until this moment it felt like being in the presence of a friend, but now I realised, he was closer to a stranger.
I knew the person he once was, a sweet but fucked up kid who had been forced to become a man too early. Someone who had his walls a mile high around almost everyone. Almost. The boy who painted his nails on lunch breaks and was friends with everyone but somehow also no one. Until he was friends with me. Then he was the boy who always sat to my left from the first bell of the school day to the last. Back then, I knew him from the inside out, just as he knew me.
He was my greatest joy of those years. Then he was my greatest heartbreak. Now, he was just some guy I used to know who I had plucked straight up off the street, looking very out of place in what was clearly a designer suit in my tiny apartment.
He looked through the first aid kit as I ensured the entirety of the scrape was rinsed. It extended most of the way from my elbow to my wrist, but more pressingly in my mind, it now stung like a bitch. Once the water rain clear as it ran off my arm, I moved onto the much smaller and shallower scrape on my left elbow, working quickly to get it clean.
Most of the bleeding had stopped, only a few spots on my right arm still dotting with blood. I leaned over the sink to prevent the water from dripping onto the floor.
I cleared my throat, nervous to break the silence.
“Can you please grab me that towel?” I nodded my head towards the black hand towel hung behind Harry.
His eyes snapped upwards from the first aid kit he had been busying himself with. I was sure he had been surveying it more thoroughly than strictly necessary, trying to detract from the awkward energy which had crept up on us. We made brief eye contact through the mirror. My breath caught in my throat. The moment was over as soon as it began as he turned wordlessly to grab the towel.
He holds it in his hand, hesitating before handing it over, “Did you want me to…?” he trails off, growing awkward in his offer. He regretted the words as soon as they were out of his mouth. She barely knows you, back off, he tells himself.
“No that’s okay,” I speak gently, and he quickly passes the towel to me. I get to work patting my arms down delicately.
“Thank you though,” I add, hating the unsure look on his face. I meet his eye, giving him a smile I hope is reassuring.
“Okay, let’s get you sitting down so I can fix you up,” he returns your smile with a slight upturn of the right side of his mouth.
I relocate to the little dining table Alex and I had bought at Ikea just a week prior. Harry isn’t far behind, washing his hands before joining me to tend to my wounds. He lays out everything he is going to need from the first aid kit before holding his hand out. Like an idiot, I stare at his hand without moving for a beat too long before jerkily offering my right arm up.
He laughs silently as he turns my arm over, analysing it carefully.
“So, do you often go for runs at midnight?” He asks as he unscrews the lid on the Vaseline.
“Yeah all the time. I just don’t normally take people from the street with me.”
“Is that all I am? A person on the street?” He tries to keep his tone light, but I can tell he was hurt by my choice of words.
I expect to feel guilty, but a burst of anger I thought I had long gotten over flares in my chest. It isn’t as red hot and overwhelming as it had been years before – I’d definitely had my fair share of time to cool off – but I’m still surprised by the sting of it.
He was the one that made himself a stranger to me, and now he’s upset when I’m stating the fact that he made a reality.
Despite myself, I tried not to come across too harshly in my response. I was never one for confrontation.
“I mean, I haven’t heard from you in six years.”
He is very careful not to lift his eyes from my injuries as he carefully applies the petroleum jelly. I stare down at him, desperate to catch his eye.
There’s a pause as I wait for him to offer some kind of explanation. Some perfectly good reason why my best friend and first love left town without telling me why, or where he was going, and then never contacted me again.
When he doesn’t fill the silence, I sigh as quietly as I can manage. You don’t really know him, I remind myself. I practically kidnapped him, I can’t just go asking him to rehash history. It was so clear that he was what he had wanted me to be. History.
“I just mean, I don’t really know you anymore. I’m sorry I grabbed you like that, I just,” I hissed at the sting of his first aid, “I was walking home from work and I saw these really sketchy looking guys.”
“Sketchy looking?” He finally looked up at me, raising an eyebrow questioningly.
“Well I guess they didn’t really look sketchy in their appearance particularly, it was more the fact that one of them was practically choking the other. They were arguing over something. I think it was something to do with some of the gangs around here,” I attempted a nonchalant tone, not wanting to worry him. The less phased I seemed, the better. I had caused him enough trouble. The only thing that was probably stopping him from running for the hills and never looking back (again) was guilt.
I go on to explain how I’d kicked that stupid beer bottle and taken off running, “which is when I ran into you. I’m really sorry about that, by the way. I’m so glad I didn’t take you down with me I think I would’ve died of a mix of guilt and embarrassment right then and there.”
“It wasn’t your fault, Ho-“he cut himself before his mouth could form that name he had so affectionately given you. “I’m the one who feels guilty, if not for my big, slow feet you wouldn’t have bit the dust.” I laugh at his turn of phrase.
His face suddenly grows serious. “Your head is okay, right?”
Instinctively, my left hand shoots up to the back of my head, ghosting over the slight bump hidden under my hair. The scar tissue was ever so minimally raised, only perceptible to a knowing touch. I retract my hand bashfully, slightly embarrassed by my knee jerk reaction.
“It’s fine,” I match his serious tone, before lightening it up, “as you can see, I managed to break most of my fall,” I gesture to my right arm he has paused work on.
He holds my gaze for a moment longer, discerning whether he thinks I am downplaying anything. He picks up the dressing, moving onto the next phase of his treatment plan.
“And they don’t feel broken? You can move your wrists okay without too much pain?”
My heart swells at his concern. I stamp out the small joy as soon as it flared up. It’s guilt that’s fuelling him. Nothing else.
I shake my head no. He looks up once more, having missed the gesture in his concentration. “Sorry! No. All bumps and bruises. I’m fine honestly, I probably majorly overexaggerated the whole thing and freaked out for nothing. I’m really sorry about all this, its so late at night.”
“Don’t apologise,” he says firmly. “It’s not your fault and you did exactly the right thing by making a break fo’ it. You never know what could’ve happened. Ya’ know. Out late. By yourself. In the dark.”
My face burned red with shame, but also defiance. I knew what I did was stupid and extremely risky, but I also didn’t think I needed a lecture about it in this moment. The fear still coursing through me and my scraped-up arms were surely lesson enough.
“I could say the same thing to you,” I countered.
We both knew my argument didn’t hold up very well. He was a man out alone at night. There was obviously a risk there, but it wasn’t the same.
We also both knew, I wasn’t really trying to start a debate. Just signalling to him I didn’t want to get into it and wanted to move on.
“I was walking to the tube from a mate’s place,” he explained simply, letting me off the hook.
He had begun to tape the dressing down to my skin, securing it safely. He worked expertly. Even if I didn’t already know, I would have said this was one of many times he had done some at home first aid.
“In a designer suit?” I questioned. There were two things I was asking, but also not saying. Was this the kind of ‘mate’ you wine and dine before going home with them? And what happened to that poor kid from Holmes Chapel I once knew?
“I came straight from work.”
Jesus he wasn’t giving me a lot to work with in the way of details.
“Oh,” I say lamely, not wanting to pry. As much as I could tell myself (and him) that I didn’t really know him anymore and he was basically a stranger, it still hurt to be treated like one. We used to be so open with one another. The one thing I ever kept from him was how I truly felt about him.
“I work in finance,” he offers up after a beat of silence. “It uh- I’m pretty lucky to have the job I do,” he alludes to his financial standing, obviously wanting to acknowledge the contrast comparative to how I knew him. A boy not even of eighteen, fending for himself while trying to complete his high school education.
My face practically split in two with the size of the smile on my face at his words. “I’m so happy for you, Harry,” I say, hoping he can see how genuinely I mean it.
“Thank you.”
“Are you happy, H?” The question slips out before I can stop it. Internally, I kick myself. Externally, I try to keep my face neutral, yet interested. That’s a perfectly normal question to ask. Totally.
“Um,” he switches to my left elbow, making quicker work of the smaller wound. “I think so. In my experience you never realise how happy you are until you aren’t. But still, I think I am.”
“Good,” I say firmly. “I’m glad.”
“What about you?” He turns the questioning back on you. “What’s your story?”
“Oh, you know. The sad story of the girl chasing a dream,” I nodded my head towards the sewing machine stationed at the other end of the table.
“Don’t say that!” His tone jests, but he is serious as he speaks. “I think it would be far sadder if I discovered that your talent was going to waste. I’m really glad to hear that actually,” he half says the last sentence to himself, concentrating on fixing his dressing properly on the more difficult angle of my elbow.
“There you go,” he gleams as he admires his handy work. “Good as new.”
“Thank you so much, Harry. I’m so sorry for all this-“
“Not your fault,” he quickly dismisses.
“Even so, I’m sorry for all the trouble. I’ll pay for an uber home for you or something,” I try to come up with something to offer him that can even begin to repay him for his help.
“Are you going to be okay by yourself?” His brow creases in concern.
“Oh, Alex should be-“ I smack a hand over my mouth, realising I never texted him to let him know I had gotten home okay.
“Oh fuck,” I remove my hand from my mouth. I gingerly fish my phone out of my back pocket, muscles beginning to protest, the impact of that fall settling in.
Four missed calls and a flurry of text messages. My phone had automatically turned onto ‘Do Not Disturb’ mode as scheduled at 12:30. I hadn’t been notified of any of it and he had definitely assumed the worst.
“Is everything okay?”
“I forgot to text him and let him know I made it home okay,” I don’t look up as I speak, opening our text chat.
From Alex: I’m coming home
Received ten minutes ago.
“Your boyfriend?” He questioned, keeping his face impassive. That had my head shooting up.
“Uh-“ I began, but cut myself off as the unmistakeable sound of heeled feet running up the stairs to our apartment ran out loud and clear.
Shit.
Before I could even think what to say next, Alex’s key was in the lock. The door swung open, smacking the wall with the force of it.
Both Harry and Alex’s brows hit their bloody hairline I swear. Or more accurately, Lexie’s.
There my best friend and roommate stood, in full drag, light catching the sequins of the pink mini-dress I had sewn myself. If I weren’t standing there with the guiltiest expression of my life, I would be thinking about how stunning she looked.
Harry looked between the two of you, as Lexie did the same. Both trying to catch their brains up to what they were seeing. I myself was at a loss for words. I probably should have started with, “Lex, I am so sorry,” but Harry broke the silence first.
“Wow, you look amazing,” he breathed, transfixed by the look Lexie had created. Drag was an art form, and she was quite the artist. He was not the first to become enchanted upon first look, and he certainly would not be the last.
Lexie narrowed her eyes at Harry, jaw falling slightly open at the audacity of the acknowledgement in this moment. She had little patience for besotted strangers in moments like this. Her narrowed eyes moved to mine, face filling with rage.
“Lex-“ I begin, but am cut off for what seems to be the millionth time tonight with the simple raise of her hand. The close of my mouth is instant. I was not about to make this any worse.
“Bitch, if you do not have a very good explanation for this,” she breathes deeply, trying to gain her composure, “I am going to fucking kill you.”
                                   ********
As soon as he is out of your apartment and onto the street, his phone is in his hand. Fingers not able to press to type the message fast enough for his liking.
From Harry: We need to talk. I saw her.
As soon as the message was delivered, he was returning the calls he had silenced in y/n’s presence. The moment she had turned her back and left him to wash his hands, he had turned his phone to airplane mode.
“Jesus Christ bruv, I thought you were dead,” Michael joked as soon as he picked up.
The two of them had parted ways for what should’ve been five or ten minutes. Harry hadn’t seen it happen, just heard the clatter of the beer bottle as it skated along the ground and the screeching halt in the argument. He had been waiting patiently for Michael to finish working in the shadowy doorway to the side. He hadn’t seen a thing, and he was sure from his concealed position, whoever had seen Mike hadn’t seen him. So, he obligingly offered to take a walk, ensure she hadn’t gone calling the police.
He had just been bored. Ready to go home and have a drink with Michael so he could have a bitch and a moan about work. It always left him feeling better when he returned on Monday. He was killing time, that was all. He hadn’t expected to stumble over the girl who had changed everything.
Harry didn’t take time to explain his extended absence, moving straight along to what he had called for. Just like Mike, he preferred to skip the pleasantries.
“I need you to subtly divert as much traffic from this block as possible,” he didn’t ask. He never asked. It was always an instruction with him. In this business, asking nicely didn’t exactly lend itself to going far.
“What’s this about?” Harry gritted his teeth. He did not enjoy having his authority questioned. The only reason Michael would get away with it was because of their pre-existing friendship. Even then. Harry was not exactly in a forgiving mood. Made all the worse when Mike added, “This isn’t about that girl from the alley is it?”
Michael had his answer when Harry said only, “Get it done or I’ll have your fookin’ head.”

Request for anon: Can I have Present mic, Aizawa, and all might where they learn their young student is fatherless? Like... their father walked out/went to prison when they were young. I'm sorry if this is time consuming, but I can't stop sobbing over my father.
I'm the situation baby but remember it wasn't your fault
I changed it up a little bit with Mics- I hope you don't mind
Present Mic:
• from the getgo something was wrong
• The moment you walked into class he could tell
• You looked like shit
• Dark bags under your eyes, hair messily brushed, just to get it out if your face, and your eyes were a light red.
• You didn't look particularly happy to be there either
• something turns in his stomach, a gut feeling that something really had went down
• And he hated seeing his students upset
• but he was relatively close to you to begin with, his felt different
• He felt like he had to do something
• Everyone settled into their seats as the bull rung but his eyes remained on you
• You honestly didn't pay attention during the lesson
• He could tell as much
• class finishes and the bell rings but you sit still, and it's not until most of the students have trickled out of the room do you start packing up
• He walks over and kneels in front of the desk "You okay there? You don't look so good," he looks concerned and his heart drops when he sees your lip start to quiver
• It takes you 0.27 seconds to break and you're frantically wiping your eyes as sobs wrack your body
• He's got his arms wrapped around you in seconds and you're leaning into his shoulder.
• He isn't sure exactly how long you're crying for but eventually you calm down enough to get out a coherent sentence
• "My-My dad was arrested Friday night. He won't tell me why- he won't let anyone else tell me why and I don't know what else to do," you cry, "I miss him so much and its only been a few days- I don't- I don't have anyone else, Mr. Hazashi,"
• And you're crying again.
• He has you take the rest of the day off, in fact he takes the day with you
• He calls in a sub (you don't know what strings he had to pull for that but you don't ask, at this point you don't care) and you two dip
• He takes you to get food, real food, that'll make you feel better
• He knows that'll help a little
• and after that he takes you to get something sweet- that tends to help mood and blood pressure and anxiety
• So he does his best with you
• He nutures you the best way he knows how
• if you need anything and I mean ANYTHING this man has you covered
• He does his best to step up in any way he can
• first off he extends his assignment deadlines and cancels two tests. Who needs them anyway.
• And you eat lunch in his classroom because he can well tell you don't want to talk to anyone else right now
• He closes it off (seemingly) so in reality its just you and him
• He'll probably tell Aizawa too but on the downlow (just so he knows)
• When holidays roll around, the dorms close.
• In this case- he let's you stay with him. He has an extra bedroom. He doesn't want you to stay in an empty house.
• You also get his phone number (which you gladly use) for anything really
• Bored? He'll deliver some shitty puns.

• He knew it.
• He called it.
• He was right again.

Well? David asked the brunette. Talking through thoughts was the only way to be safe. The only way to truly keep Star out of the loop. But the tallest seemed to be hesitating with how he looked to where Star hid, seeing a flutter of curtains that told them she had retreated back into her room. She was out of sight, but the boys knew she had nothing better to do than listen. They'd heard her thoughts about you. So far, she didn't know what you were, why you were truly here. She suspected you were a meal, or, in her mind, worse. That they had liked you the same way David had liked her, and that she was due to become one of them.
They could keep a half out of their heads with ease, but it was much more difficult when it came to eachother. To Star, their thoughts were muffled. Like she was hearing them from underwater. She knew they were talking, but she wouldn't be able to make out what unless one of the boys truly wanted her to. Or was too loud. She wouldn't know the truth, and it was a relief to hear nothing close to the truth ring from her head.
Dwayne trained his eyes back on their blonde leader.
She's hooked. She'll definitely help us. He said, and Paul grinned widely to himself.
I told you my idea would work. He said smugly, and each of the boys sent him a glare. He was loud, even through their thoughts. Too loud. If he wasn't careful, Star would hear him.
Yeah, yeah, don't milk it. Came Markos thought. He could hear them, keep in tune, even from somewhere inside the cave. Still, Paul was visibly proud of himself. It had been his idea to flirt with you, get you emotionally invested. While you were a witch, they could smell your soft heart. If you liked them, as friends, lovers, whatever, you wouldn't let them die. You might've not even let them die if Paul had just given you his puppy dog eyes for long enough. But, still, having you as an ally was an undeniable asset. And it was a bond that would only be strengthened by friendship.
Or more. Paul said, and David flicked the ashes of his cigarette at him.
Down, boy. We need her to be focused. You need to be focused. David told him. Paul was a lot of things, and a distraction was definitely one of them. It's why Marko was taking her to her room. He could be friendly and blend into the background. Paul had whined about it for forever.
I am focused! Paul threw back, but Dwayne rolled his eyes. He crossed his arms over his chest, staring at the blonde.
Focused on screwing her doesn't count, Paul. Dwayne threw back, and Paul sighed. He ran a hand through his hair as he thought,
Fine, whatever. What do we do now? He asked the platinum blonde. David took a drag of his cigarette, glancing where Marko had taken you. While it'd been his idea to have you help them, he hated this more than any of them. He hated that their fate was in your hands. And he hated most that he didn't know how capable they were. David let out a plume of smoke before he thought,
We just have to wait and see if she gets us killed.
***
You were surprised to find that you were almost a little touched to see that they'd set something up for you. They had placed you in the same room as where they slept, or, well, that's what it seemed like. You recognized the ladder and, when you looked up, you saw pipes that looked a little too perfect to hang from.
It was just a mattress and some bed clothes, a pile of pillows and blankets. But the boys had obviously done their best with what they could find, and had done as much as they could to make it look inviting. You found yourself smiling, and tucking your hair behind your ear as you looked around the room.
Marko had taken your stuff from Dwayne, and he set it on your makeshift bed. You were looking around where they slept. It wasn't the biggest room, and the mattress practically took up most of the floor. Almost the entirety of the rest of it had candles set up for your benefit. But, you were grateful that they'd done anything, and you sat on the bed to take your books out of your duffel bag. You flipped to the page that you needed, and Marko moved to sit besides you so he could watch you as you read the pages, and you glanced up at him for a moment. He was close, but not too close. He was leaning on one of his arms, chewing on his nail. You didn't let your eyes stay on him for long. You weren't sure you'd be able to handle getting flirted with by another vampire this evening, and, instead, you reached into your bag to take out everything you'd need to ward the room.
You started with a cast of protection over the room, and Marko watched you with interest as you took a piece of chalk to draw sigils over the space and onto the rock walls. After the protection spell was cast, you wiped your brow and tried not to think of how tired you were. You were starting to feel drained. Of energy, of sleep. You were lucky you had a few hours before dawn so you could get some rest. You finished up what you'd planned by casting some wards, just some spells to act as alarms. If anyone came in, the five of you would know. Finally, you glanced at the main entrance to their little sub-cave. There was an opening higher up, and you guessed that was how the boys came in. But you glanced around, finding that there was only one main opening. Marko had taken you through the tunnels, but you wondered just how many ways there were to get to this part of their cave. Before you could ask, Marko was piping up,
"The tunnels are like a maze. Really, I'm more surprised they found us than anything." He said. He almost sounded impressed, and you glanced over at him. His words struck you for a moment, and you looked around the room. You went to your bag, a new thought occurring to you and you wanted to see if you had the proper materials. You grinned when you saw that you did. You set your book on the ground, right in front of the entrance to their cave. You took two pieces of string and walked around the room to collect any sticks you could find. You settled when you found five, and etched an initial into each of them with a rock. You tied the strings around the bundle of sticks, looking at your book so you could whisper the phrase over and over to yourself. When you were finished, you found a rock that jutted out above the entrance. You hung the bundle above the door, and turned to gesture to the bundle. He lifted his brows, unsure of what you had just done.
"I hid the entrance. There are five sticks, one for each of us. So, only we can see it." You told him, and a flash of surprise came into his eyes. It was smart, a smarter idea than it seemed any of them would think of.
"Shit. Good thinking." He said, and you tried not to let the praise affect you too much. He gave you a small smile, and you returned it before you sat on your bed. You felt good, felt useful. Though, it wasn't completely foolproof.
"I mean, they won't see an entrance, but it's just a smoke-screen-" Still, Marko interrupted you and reached out to take your hand before he said,
"Thank you. For everything." His eyes were trained on you, making you understand that he was being sincere. You found your lips twisting into a shy smile from the eyecontact, and you quickly tried to find something else to grab your attention. You reached into your bag, pulling out the necklace you'd fashioned for him. You stifled a yawn before you said,
"Here." You whispered and held it out for him. He took it, and only looked at it for a moment before he was pulling it over his head. He glanced at it from where it was around his neck, and then he smiled lightly to himself when he saw how you began pushing your duffel off the bed. You needed some sleep if you were going to be able to stay up the entire day. Marko reached out, grazing a hand over your cheek to drag your attention back to him.
When your eyes connected with his, images flashed through your mind. Expectations. You imagined him leaning in to kiss you, starting another whatever this was with another one of the four vampires. The idea of lips against yours, his hand on your cheek. You wondered how his kiss would be different than the other pairs. Pauls had been a frenzy of heat, while Dwaynes had been slow and mind numbing. Your eyes flicked down to the pink of his mouth instinctively, but in the next second you blushed. You realized that all your thoughts had been on display, and that he had probably heard everything. To confirm that, Marko snickered.
He erupted into a small fit of laughter, making the heat on your cheeks grow even warmer. But the second you tried to push away his hand and retreat in embarrassment, he said,
"No, no, I'm sorry. It was just- You're just cute, okay?" He said, but that did nothing to aid in your embarrassment. Marko leaned back, a grin on his face as he lifted his thumb up to chew on it. The way he leaned back made it so his shirt lifted up, exposing even more of the toned skin of his abdomen. You tried to keep your eyes trained away from the flesh if only for the sake of keeping your thoughts clean. With a glint in his eyes, he followed his words with, "Plus, I'm used to people thinking about me in that way." He said, making it clear what he meant by emphasizing his words. You didn't know if he was trying to make your blush worse, but he pulled himself up and ran a knuckle down your cheek, "But not from someone as pretty as yourself." And, in that moment, you decided that he was just as bad as Paul. He laughed again, leaning forward as the laugh shook through him. You realized he had heard that thought too, and he leaned back to lay on your bed as his joy ran through him.
You pushed your hair from your face, rolling your eyes at how much your thoughts seemed to amuse him. He pointed at you, shaking his finger as he said,
"Paul was right about you. You're fun." He paused for a moment, his eyes glancing away. Back towards where you came. "But you need some sleep. Big day." He said, and gave you a wink from where he was laying before he was pulling himself up. He pressed a kiss to your cheek before he pulled away altogether. A small wave and then he was heading out of the room. You watched as the strangest of the boys disappeared.
He hadn't even kissed you properly and he'd left you in a whirlwind. You stared after him for a moment, before looking around the room. Even with the light being casted by the candles, you could tell that it was normally a dark room. Pitch black, probably. Perfect for vampires, you told yourself. You changed into a pair of pajamas, ones that were long and would keep you warm in the cold cave. As you laid back and tried to go to sleep, you couldn't help but think of how you'd been lead up to this point. Of when the boys would come. It could be today, tomorrow, maybe a week from now. At least, with your current situation, your biggest worry was a group of four unruly vampires.
You found yourself reaching for your cheek, wondering what else you could pry from your cards if you decided to look into your own future.
***
Marko rejoined the rest of them in the front room, their thoughts filtering louder and louder into his head.
-Happens after all this is over? Paul has asked, and Marko was quick to figure out their current topic of conversation. David gave him an arch of his brow, and Marko didn't need to hear his thoughts to know what he was thinking.
She's sleeping. She set up some protection, some alarms, and hid the entrance. She seems like she knows what she's doing. Marko added, but David didn't respond. Dwayne nodded, showing a subtle sign that he agreed. David's eyes flicked to the necklace hanging in front of his shirt, and Marko told him, Made one for each of us. She's taking this pretty seriously. And Marko heard David's voice ring out in his head then.
She better. Their lives were on the line. If you didn't, they'd have no use for you except as for a final meal. But the boys knew what Dwayne had told you. It had been a final test, one to see if you really would help them. To see if you were worth keeping alive. It seemed that, for now, you were. It was then that Paul repeated his previous question.
Well? What are we gonna do after all of this? Are we gonna keep her? He asked. They hadn't exactly figured out the details. They didn't have time to. Everything had changed so quickly, and they still hadn't even told Max about what they'd found out. David tapped the ash off the end of his cigarette, sighing as he thought,
I already told you. Let's just survive first.
***
You had only gotten a couple hours of sleep, and you'd been sipping on a thermos full of coffee as you leaned against the cave wall. You were supposed to stay up all day, and you didn't realize how difficult that was truly going to be.
You'd set up some alarms, ones that you knew would wake you up if they were disturbed. But, you figured, at least for the first night, you'd show how much you were willing to do to help them. You'd stared around the room, memorized pretty much all of it. It'd been interesting to see how the boys slept for awhile. They hung upside down, their hair hanging from where they perched. They crossed their arms over their chests and they were completely still. Almost as if they were dead. I guess they technically are, you thought. This was the only time you could think freely, not have to worry about anyone hearing you.
You'd given the rest of the boys their necklaces before they'd gone to sleep, and it comforted you a bit. You knew if anyone did happen to get by you, the spell you'd placed on their jewelry would give whoever a nasty surprise and you, at least, hoped you'd get to see it.
But, now that you were edging close to a chronic case of boredom, you pulled some of the books you'd packed out of your duffel. You'd brought a couple of books, thinking you brush up on your herbology, but you ended up paging through a book of cryptozoology. Of course, this wasn't one you'd checked out of a normal library. It'd been passed down in your family, handwritten with everything they knew about different creatures. You paged through it until you found a chapter about vampires. You figured that the least you could do was really get to know your new roommates.
The information was a little underwhelming. Drank blood, traveled in packs, could fly, were turned by exchanging blood...These were all things you could've guessed. You were able to write in their ability to read minds, but a frown dusted your face when you continued reading. At the end of their general profile, in one of your ancestors scrawl, it was written 'Never trust a vampire. They only care about themselves and their own.' You stared at that line, and then looked up at the boys hanging above you. Sure, they wouldn't kill you now. You were helping them. But a worm of doubt had crawled in about what would happen once this was over. You protect us, we'll protect you, Davids voice rang in your head. How could you be sure they'd keep their end of the deal? It wasn't like you planned on staying long anyways, but how could you be sure you wouldn't end up as an easy dinner the second their threat was terminated? You sighed, deciding to push those thoughts from your head and flip through the rest of their chapter to try to find any useful information you could focus on instead.
You didn't know when, or for how long, but you'd fallen asleep. It'd been a simple blink, a close of your eyelids that had lasted too long. Your eyelids were too heavy to pick back up, but then you heard it.

Rachel + Leah + Water, the Director’s Cut!
Okay, so I made this gifset exploring Rachel and Leah and the ocean, but because there’s a ten gif limit and a major point of gifsets is for them to look nice, I had to sacrifice a lot of the behind the scenes thoughts and initial versions that came along the way. I still wanted to talk about them though, because I found a lot of them really cool, so I figured I’d stick all that in this post. It’s gonna get long, so you can find the rest under the cut!
Tumblr media
So first up, we have Leah as we first see her in the water. (I’m using shitty screenshots because tumblr has a 2mb limit for gifs on text posts and I don’t feel like compressing these down lmao.) Here, she’s face-down, unconscious, floating on a fragment of the plane. This is the first time we see any of the girls in the water.
As Leah gives her dramatic speech talks to the detectives, we see flashbacks to the girl’s lives pre-island. There we see that one of them already has a very strong relationship with the water already, in her before-life: Rachel.
Tumblr media
Rachel, as we know, is a diver. We see her take a magnificent tumble into the pool, but when she surfaces, her coach is sternly head-shaking. She corrects Rachel’s form, and after she walks away, Rachel echoes the correction, clearly frustrated with herself.
Back to Leah. We next see Leah waking up on her lil chunk of flotsam. When she realizes what the hell’s going on, she does what we all would do and starts screaming in terror.
Tumblr media
Her panic gets interrupted by Jeannette’s classic Raise Your Glass ringtone. (This was my alarm for two years in high school, and when I watched this for the first time I did have an out-of-body experience). She swims her way over to the Hello Kitty suitcase and—irrationally—unzips it, but we’ll cut her some slack because she’s in some serious shock. As she tries to get the phone, it slips through her fingers and starts spiraling down to the bottom of the ocean. She dives after it.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, she quickly runs out of air and has to give up. She then spots Jeannette floating nearby, checks her out, judges her to be “just a little roughed up,” and then sees land and has a big oh-thank-fuck moment. Because we saw Gretchen’s team placing all of the girls, we know that Linh and Leah were the only two that were put out in the open water. The other girls were put in the beach, or, in Martha’s case, near the shore. This was probably done to quell some of Leah’s suspicions about the crash, but it does give me a couple questions about how they got the other girls wet—did they hose them all down? Pour a couple buckets over their heads? Bob each of them up and down a couple times in a big net like fries in a fryer??
Anyway, not important.
Tumblr media
Next that we see, Leah has pulled Jeannette/Linh in from the water. (My Australian parents, who can never pass up an opportunity to give ocean safety tips, chimed in at this point in our first watch to say “See how she’s doing it! You always want to hold someone from behind and pull them in that way. Good job, well done.” So there’s some approval for you, Leah.) As Leah nears the shore, Dot and Toni come tearing in and they help pull the two of them out.
The rest of the episode after that really only concerns fresh water—Toni and Shelby set out in search of it, to no avail, and Nora helpfully plugs Diet Coke reminds us multiple times that sugar’s heavier than water, so “sugar sinks.” We do set up a goal for the next couple episodes, though: Rachel says, “I'm gonna swim out to the plane tomorrow. See if I can find anything,” and Leah volunteers to come with. Rachel gives her a nod of respect.
Moving on to episode two, we have Rachel and Leah’s (iconic) first real conversation. Rachel says she’s still going out to the wreckage. Leah looks out and looks back at her, incredulous, and says, “Rachel, the water’s insane.” Here’s a big recurring association—the water and “insanity.” (I use insanity here because that’s the language they use, along with psycho/crazy. In no way does that reflect my actual beliefs about their behavior nor am I condoning the way they use those words.) Leah points out the rip current (“well done,” said my mum), and explains her very brief stint as a norcal surfer. Rachel still looks set on going, but then Leah says:
Tumblr media
Turns out, Leah can be as ripe with foreshadowing as Fatin. This marks the appearance of their second main association with the ocean—death. After she says this, Leah turns Rachel’s attention inland, and the two agree to climb a big hill to scope out their situation.
Episode two is also obviously Rachel’s episode, so we see a lot of her relationship with diving.
Tumblr media
We see her plunge over and over and over again, drilling technique and form, but despite all her hard work, we learn her coach advised her to quit the team. Instead, Rachel throws herself in twice as hard, and ends up with an eating disorder. By the time the nationals come around, she’s too physically weak to dive safely, and she ends up hitting her head as she goes down. She surfaces in the pool with blood flowing around her.
Tumblr media
She refuses to see that as the end of her diving career. She says she’s gonna “get back out there” and “be fucking great again” and she tells Nora at the end of the episode that she needs her to let her believe that.
In episode three, we finally see Leah and Rachel’s trip out to the plane! Nora comes along with them, her relationship with Rachel smoothed over after the events of ep two. “Nora’s a good swimmer,” Rachel explains as she invites her, “We were both water babies.” Water’s clearly been central to Nora and Rachel’s identities since they were really young.
The three of them make their escape from the rest of the girls as the topic of building a shelter comes up. “Not interested in putting down roots!” Rachel calls. In keeping with the elements theme, Rachel isn’t looking to be grounded. She climbs super high into the air and she dives deep into the water, but earth isn’t her thing. (See: the quicksand scene. Whoops.)
Tumblr media
Anyway, the three of them paddle out into the water. Rachel dives down, scopes out the plane, tells Nora she doesn’t expect her to “fucking free dive in open water,” and then looks to Leah and asks if she’s ready. Leah reluctantly agrees.
Tumblr media
We get our first shot Rachel swimming down into the ocean and our second shot of Leah (first the phone, second the plane). In the wreckage of the plane, they discover the black box, affixed to the wall. They keep trying to wrench it free, but it’s stuck, and Leah—who’s primary activity is, like, reading—keeps having to surface for air. Rachel gets frustrated and grabs her leg, holding her down.
Tumblr media
Leah screams and fights, but Rachel doesn’t let go. We cut away, and when we see them again, they’ve emerged victorious (Rachel) and drowned as dogs after a bath (Leah and Nora) with the black box in hand. Later, Leah mutters the above line to Fatin, calling Rachel a “psychopath.” For those keeping score at home, here’s where we refer back to the association between water and “insanity.”
In episode four, the ocean benevolently bestows a bag of takis upon Nora, and we have our whole shelter-building shebang. It’s all very land-based until Leah and Fatin go head to head, which ends with Fatin smearing her blood all over Leah’s face. Leah, with her usual flair, strips off her clothes as she walks into the ocean. She stays down there, passively letting the water wash the blood from her face.
Tumblr media
This shot parallels a couple things. First, the drifting blood visually parallels Rachel in the pool after her diving injury. Second, we have Rachel staring out at the water where Leah’s disappeared and going, “Man, that is some real Virginia Woolf-type shit.” Dot has no fucking clue what she means, so Fatin interprets: “It means that bitch is crazy. She said you were the psychopath of the group.” Now it’s Leah who’s done something in the water that’s been deemed insane. The water and “insanity;” the water and accusations of insanity within their relationship.
Those accusations pop up in episode five, but the episode is pretty focused on the inland search for Fatin, and revolves around fresh water, not salt water. (That could be a whole nother post lol.) It’s in episode six where we again see these two return to the ocean.
Tumblr media
Rachel is diving in the ocean! For fun! She’s picking up pretty shells (which granted isn’t the safest thing to do in the pacific, cone snails are not our friends), and she’s grinning, and she’s generally enjoying herself. With the, uh, finale situation, we’re probably not gonna get to see her smile for a bit, which is sad, because she should get to do this more often! This shot visually echoes her diving for the plane and Leah diving for the phone, except she can be in a better mood because there is no end goal.
So she goes diving, ends up finding a bunch of mussels, gathers ‘em up, and brings ‘em back to camp. They all chow down, but wind up with serious food poisoning. Martha and Toni ring death’s doorbell a couple of times. Rachel blames herself—she’s the one that went swimming out there, she brought the mussels back. Again, we see that connection between the ocean and death.
And that association comes back bright an early in ep seven! The tide surges higher than they’ve ever seen, taking down their shelter and leaving them all scrambling.
Tumblr media
While Leah convinces Fatin that her life is more important than her suitcase, Rachel is left with a decision: help Nora, screaming to her from where she’s clinging to a rock for dear life, or grab the black box. In a move that contrasts Toni’s immediate and unquestioning aid of Martha, Rachel picks the black box.
Tumblr media
After, when they’re debriefing, Nora’s quick to bring it up. She doesn’t hide her hurt. “It happened so fast,” she says, “we all acted irrationally. Like Fatin, who jumped into a rip current to save her toothbrush. Or Rachel, who left me for fucking dead.” I think this counts as a double whammy for the “insanity” and death count—I think “acted irrationally” is as close as Nora gets to calling anyone crazy, and is honestly a better descriptor of all the other instances of “insanity” that we’ve seen, and the ocean was the source of the very real risk to Nora’s life.
(Honestly, I think Rachel thought she was making a rational choice here—just with some grim fucking calculus. Still, given that nobody’d responded to the black box by then, I think it was a decision fueled by the need to keep hold of hope more than actual rationality.) In a fun contrast to the rest of the episode, it’s Leah that keeps a level head in this situation.
The rest of the episode is low on water scenes, though Leah’s paranoia about Shelby is fueled by her sneaking off to the water, which could fall under the “insanity” category. It also marks where Nora begins to take an active role in breaking apart Rachel’s fantasy about diving again.
Ep eight has one of the best montages in a series of great montages, with the playing in the water scene! A plane has seen them, they’re gonna be saved, and they all get to get high and act like kids.
Tumblr media
I have this lingering and probably irrational concern that the entire water play scene is choreographed and that it’s chock-full of foreshadowing. Like I know to some extent they likely were just like “yeah guys go goof off in the water,” but like...the wave pulling Rachel and Nora apart here...I mean.... (Rachel is probably gonna get more blood on Dot in the near future, too. ) That aside, their horseplay gets interrupted when Leah notices some blood on Dot, which Rachel realizes is her own period blood.
Tumblr media
Fatin then chimes in with her ever-gleeful foreshadowing: “Shark week for Rachel.” So while this whole encounter with the water actually seems mostly good for a change, it’s colored by the tie-in to what we know is coming.
In ep nine, reality has set in that rescue isn’t imminent. Everyone’s starving, Leah has started to spiral, and Rachel’s unusually skittish. By the tide’s edge, Nora asks for her help fishing, but Rachel refuses, saying that she’s weak. Nora flicks water at her, and Rachel flinches, clearly scared.
Tumblr media
Starvation seems to have triggered Rachel’s trauma around the water leftover from her diving accident. In response, Nora reaches out a hand and says, “Let’s go for a walk.”
Meanwhile, Leah’s spiral has reached critical. She starts ranting about the ocean and the water and pushes past Dot, sprinting into the waves:
Tumblr media
And so she’s taken to heart the way they think Jeannette’s body “escaped” the island—the tide—and it’s been spun like cotton candy in her head. She’s right, technically—Jeanette/Linh’s body was moved off the island by boat, and there’s definitely an argument that if they really did all swim out Gretchen’s team would save them, or at least try to. This is also a very real suicide attempt. So it’s kind of a culmination of the threats of death and mental health issues that’ve been wrapped up in the ocean since the start.
On Rachel’s end, Nora has taken her up to a cliff. Rachel calls the whole thing “borderline insane,” walking up when they’re so low on energy, but Nora tells her she needs to make a truce between herself and the water.
Tumblr media
“You’re afraid of it now,” she says, and Rachel replies that, “All it ever did was make me sick.” Nora immediately surges forward to say “That’s not true!” Rachel, incredulous, says, “Isn't this what you want? For me to hang it up? For me to forget the whole fucking diving game?” Nora says, “No. I don't know. I don't want you to forget you.” She then tells Rachel she should dive off the end of the cliff, that she marked it to make sure it’s safe. Rachel says she can’t.
There’s a lot here. First, there’s the first time we’ve seen of Rachel explicitly call herself sick. In episode two, even in a treatment center, she still denies it, says she’s just an athlete who knows what it takes. But now she’s reached a place where she acknowledges her eating disorder—and also probably her recent illness with the mussels—and ties it directly to the water. It’s the reason she’s sick.
Nora’s fear that Rachel will forget herself also just hammers home how central the water has always been to Rachel’s identity. Cutting herself off from the water would be cutting off a core part of herself. (...whoops) And we’ve seen that it does bring her actual joy, when she’s allowed to relax with it, but she’s had such traumatic associations rolled up into it now. Nora doesn’t want Rachel to do diving as a sport anymore, because of how badly it’s hurt her, but she does want Rachel to keep diving and swimming as like, a form of unevaluated personal expression.
At the moment that Rachel’s refusing to jump, she and Nora hear shouts from the mainland. They see Fatin and Dot screaming after Leah. Confused, Nora asks, “Where is she going?” but Rachel understands immediately, with absolute certainty, without needing to be told—“To fucking drown to death.” Seven episodes after Leah called heading into the water a death wish, she’s finally proving it true. Rachel squares her shoulders, takes a few deep breaths, and sprints into a dive.
Unlike all her other dives high altitude dives we’ve seen her do, this dive isn’t qualified based on aesthetics. This dive matters because of what it will do, not on how it looks. And what it does do is bring her into the ocean, where she needs to be for her friend. So with strong strokes, she swims out towards Leah.
Tumblr media
When she reaches her, she takes hold of her, pulls her into her chest from behind. She begins to swim with her back to shore. This rescue directly parallels Leah’s rescue of Linh that we talked about above. It also, as the Out in the Wilds podcast insightfully pointed out, really calls Rachel and Leah’s relationship back to the beginning. Whereas Rachel had initially held Leah down in the water, putting her in danger of drowning, Rachel here pulls her out of the water, saving her from drowning. Together, they make it all the way back to the shore.
Finally (and, like, if you’ve made it all the way down here? bless you. thank you), we have episode ten. The ocean doesn’t really figure into episode ten until the very end. Rachel has had a long episode of healing—she’s happy to be full and she’s in a good place with her sister and things seem to be going pretty okay. She decides to heal her relationship with the water, too. She heads out, telling Nora that she’s “Just gonna float, Nor. Just float.”
Tumblr media
Just floating. After all the times we saw her plunging into the water, purposefully, with frustration, with drive, with so much to prove and with so much sacrifice and self-abuse to prove it with, Rachel finally just wants to float. She wants to let herself relax. She wants to let the water carry her.
Of course, that means there has to be, like, a massive marine carnivore waiting to mistake her for a seal.
Tumblr media
Visually, this shot really parallels the opening shot of Leah on the fragment of plane. Instead of being face-down, though, she’s face-up, and she’s conscious, just not of the threat from below.
The shark bites.
Tumblr media
In a horrible parallel to Leah’s Virginia Woolf moment and Rachel’s diving accident, we see blood pool in the water. Rachel is pulled under. The girls on the land start screaming and running toward her. We know Rachel doesn’t die, but this is still a near-death experience, one that probably cost her her arm. Leah, covered in dirt and her own blood after crawling out of the pit Nora led her into, can only stand and watch, shocked and horrified.
So that got! Way longer than I meant it to! And honestly most of this was condensed into very concise tags in a post I made a few days ago! But if you made it all the way down here, you’ve now seen everything I wanted to fit into that gifset but couldn’t. Thanks for sticking with me, friend <3

wah wah uni/modern AU headcanons/word vomit underneath bc i’m bored
sfw stuff for once; probably a lot of projecting my uni experience on to characters lmao, a sprinkle of slander (a whole serving for naoya)
gojo, geto, nanami, haibara, naoya under the cut
gojo
double majoring in physics + mathematics. survives off of sugar/sweets to get him through all nighters. lives in the physics department building.
comes off as the kinda student who ALWAYS has to have something going on because they don’t want to be alone in their thoughts.
TAs for introductory courses and is the worst kind of TA; not that he’s an ass or anything. he’s really into the topic and that’s great! but explains things like “so you go like this, and like zoom here? but also there’s a whoosh that kinda changes things.” like sir? i just asked what newton’s third law was.
will try to haze underclassmen into doing stupid things. (jumping in a nearby lake, running naked across the football field, stuff like that)
still a pretty good student; does make some dumb decisions (has definitely taken an exam high on some type of illicit drug just to see what happens)
heckles conspiracy theorists/animal rights activists when they’re on campus.
steals plates/utensils from campus dining, has amassed a giant pile of utensils by the end of the year.
bonus text message bc i felt like it:
Tumblr media
geto
philosophy major + animal bio/zoology major(? or minor)
not related to his major but he also comes off as the type that would read horror fiction in his spare time (idk lovecraftian fiction in particular feels like it would ring with him)
is an RA. he didn’t want to live off campus because it’s too expensive but didn’t want to have roommates in a campus dorm either. best of both worlds.
when introducing himself to his floor/residents during the first meeting, he just makes up random lies about campus/university. (the bathroom in room 323? haunted. don’t eat the cafeteria pasta; you’ll have terrible shits. intro math is the EASIEST class ever! (he almost failed intro math in his first quarter.)) aka just causes problems on purpose just to see what happens.
stellar student and (generally) all around swell guy; is always the first one to speak up if you’re assigned in a group project and takes the lead. very charismatic (in a good way!)
has a well-organized planner/google calendar. if you make plans w/ him he says shit like “ok, so i’ll pen you in for 2pm on thursday?”
if you get into an argument w/ him he’ll probably point out that something you said is technically a logical fallacy and then goes off on a tangent about said fallacy.
when approached by petitioners on campus, lies to them that he’s not local to the area, or that he’s not registered to vote.
starts small talk w/ you not out of romantic or even platonic interest, but because he wants you to join his student club
nanami
business/econ major. but he’s cool! responsible! and ~not like other business majors~ (aka he’s nice and not a drunken asshat)
doesn’t do much outside of school; holes himself in his room to study or occasionally goes to a library/cafe on campus for a change of pace.
turns in assignments days before the deadline. never does anything last minute if he can help it.
wears a leather messenger bag. has been mistaken for the professor on a couple of occasions.
lives on caffeine; his 32 oz hydroflask? yea that’s filled to the brim w/ coffee.
part of model UN
has a lot of spare time since he doesn’t work or do many extracurricular activities; main hobby is reading, and occasionally baking.
if he has a class in a large lecture hall he puts his bag on the seat next to him and says he’s saving it for someone if anybody asks. he is indeed, not saving that spot for anyone and just doesn’t want people sitting next to him.
haibara
pre-med or veterinary science major.
plays ultimate frisbee on the school lawn.
if you sit next to him on the first day of class, he’ll make small talk + ask you for your number so that you two can study together for the rest of the quarter. (in a platonic way, not necessarily romantic!)
type of person that likes to draw on the whiteboard outside of their dorm door as the seasons change; things like “good luck on finals!”, “happy holidays!” w/ smiley faces and cute doodles
is part of a cooking club on campus; likes to bring whatever he makes to nanami. (also bc he’s worried nanami isn’t taking care of himself; who the hell drinks 32oz.+ of coffee everyday?)
keeps a hamster in his dorm even thought he’s not supposed to; has to hide the hamster cage/supplies ahead of time for room inspections.
has accidentally fucked up a lab once and had to use the emergency lab shower.
naoya
compsci techbro. like the worst kind of techbro you’ll ever find. elon musk worshipper and crypto enthusiast.
has a stacked resume w/ internships and whatnot bc his family has connections. legacy kid.
pays people to do his homework.
subscribes to rise and grind mentality, believes in alpha male ideology
is always dripped out in luxury/designer brand outfits.
if you ever ask him for help w/ something he’d either say “figure it out yourself” or repeat the spec word for word to you as if he actually did something.
thinks weed ~elevates his state of mind.~ it doesn’t.

Christmas Together / Scarlet Ribbons.
Tumblr media
kicking off the christmas season with some highly indulgent hcs ! i’m also planning to write mini scenarios of getting caught under the mistletoe with each bucci gang member ehehe
[Scarlet Ribbons description]
Tumblr media
Bruno Bucciarati;
It’s likely that Bruno will be the one you spend your first Christmas in Italy with. He’ll do everything that he can to make it a memorable experience for you, from taking you sightseeing to offering to spend the day together. His emphasis is always on the togetherness the season is meant to bring, so he’ll do what he so you never feel lonely or homesick.
When you’re dating, he’ll ask to take you to his hometown on the sea during the holiday season. Bruno wants to show you, the most important person in his life, where he had made beloved childhood memories. Of course, this includes treating you to meals and a stay in a luxury hotel. Bruno’s overjoyed to share this aspect of himself with you, an innocence that he long thought departed from him. You get to create new memories and reminiscence on old ones together.
The most likely from everyone here to propose during the holiday season. It feels fitting somehow, after sharing this much about himself and his ideals, that you two could eternally be tied together. Should you say yes, Bruno would obviously be elated, holding you so tight without intending to let go for as long as you should indulge him. Afterward, he’d bring you to the area his father is buried, saying that he’s now in good hands with you.
What Bruno would get you: A ring, whether it be an engagement ring or just a token of his love until you’ll have him as your husband. It’d likely cost a small fortune, a gold twist ring with a diamond in the center.
What Bruno would like from you: Honestly, this man needs a week or so away. Of course with you to sweeten to deal. Promise him a cruise and he’ll be putty in your hands.
Giorno Giovanna;
Growing up, Giorno never got to truly celebrate Christmas, only learning about it in school. Due to that, he’s knowledgeable about the holiday but doesn’t feel a real connection to it. His newfound enthusiasm would come from getting to watch you enjoy the various activities. He does his best to create more time in his busy schedule as not to miss out on this time meant to be spent with those dearest to him.
He would honestly melt if you brought him hot chocolate while he’s working in his office. It’s a small but touching gesture that warms his heart, it feels so surreal to him to have someone who loves him as much as you do. Giorno will invite you to stay with him so that the two of you can sit on the couch together, setting his work aside as he by far favors your company. Might get a bit mischievous and dab away the whipped cream you get on your face, leaning in closer than necessary with a sly smile.
Gold Experience Requiem is something of a sentient Stand, but still closely reflects Giorno’s wishes that he keeps locked away. While the two of you are walking somewhere, his Stand will imbue life into a nearby object, creating mistletoe that hangs above your heads. Giorno would bashfully apologize for his Stand’s behavior, only to be pleasantly surprised when you go on your tiptoes to kiss his cheek. He will be thinking about this moment for the rest of the week, god, your lips are so soft and feel so nice.
What Giorno would get you: Everything . No, but really, Giorno is going to want to spoil you even more than usual. You look at something in a window for .00001 seconds and it’s going to be wrapped up and given to you. Somebody stop this man .
What Giorno would like from you: Poor boy probably hasn’t ever gotten a Christmas present before, so anything would touch his heart. Giorno would love anything handmade or with sentimental value. A scrapbook or photos would be treasured.
Guido Mista;
Mista has honestly never really thought this time of year is anything special, not that he doesn’t enjoy it. He’s just never been big into holidays and stuff. Experiencing all these things with you changes his tune towards it though, it makes it all the more special. Every cheesy couple activity under the sun is going to be done with him, a goofy grin on his face. He’s so in love and can’t wait to make dumb memories together.
For some reason, he’s oddly determined to make a gingerbread man house with you. The gingerbread man cookies he decorates look a little off, their proportions funny and icing smeared everywhere. If you can’t hold back your laughter at the nightmarish looking creatures, he’s going to smear icing on your face, so beware. Mista will lick it off before running away from your wrath.
Sex Pistols get included in the celebration too of course. They’d be over the moon should you make cookies that look like them, though if you look away for a second too long, they’re still going to eat them. Most of your cooking consists of Mista trying to shoo away Pistols while you’re doing a majority of the work lmao. Number Five does his best to help! He’ll turn the recipe book’s pages for you and offer to help decorate. It’s super precious.
What Mista would get you: Ugly sweaters that he thinks are cool looking and literally everything on your wishlist. He spends all day wrapping your dozens of presents with Pistols pitching in.
What Mista would like from you: Mista is an easygoing guy, so he’d love basically anything. Put a bow on your head and say you’re his gift and it’ll really get him going. ; )
Pannacotta Fugo;
Fugo doesn’t associate Christmas with warm and fuzzy memories. He remembers all the dreadful socialite parties his parents would drag him to, how he was forced into uncomfortable tuxedos for hours, pretending like they were a happy family. With you in life his now, he’s willing to give it another go, but would need some encouragement. Fugo would only be doing it for your sake since he’s so whipped for seeing you happy. <3
Would love walking hand in hand with you through Via San Gregorio Armeno, taking in the remarkable craftsmanship of the nativity scenes. Fugo will visibly light up at the chance to impress you with his knowledge. He excitedly goes into rambles about the history of various things, from saints to traditions that were born in Naples. He’ll have a cute flush on his cheeks when he finishes speaking, realizing how you’re able to get him to talk so much. It’s precious.
Fugo is very insistent that you bundle up during this wintery season. Before you leave to go anywhere, he’s mumbling that you’re going to catch a cold, throwing scarves over you. He would never admit it, but the sight of you all bundled up with cheeks flushed from the cold is literally the cutest thing he’s ever seen in his life. Don’t point out his staring, or he’ll get sulky.
What Fugo would get you: Fugo would fret over getting a gift you’d like. He’d go somewhat old fashioned, getting you a beautiful necklace that has your birthstone in the middle.
What Fugo would like from you: Attention. No, but really, he loves learning, get him some books on a topic he recently got interested in and he’ll be over the moon. Especially if you write a little note for him, he’d ascend.
Narancia Ghirgha;
Narancia is practically vibrating in excitement over getting to spend this time with you. He’ll tell you all the stuff he wants to do, enthusiastically waving his arms around, though it’s unlikely you’ll be able to do everything he wants. Narancia is going to be glued to your hip, ready to experience all the mushy couple stuff he can. He’s a bit clingy during this time, but indulge him, he hasn’t had good Christmas memories since his mom was alive and healthy.
God bless your soul if it snows . You probably already expect as much from him at this point, but he’s going to be throwing snowballs at you, laughing and running around when you pout at him. Narancia has a competitive streak, so throwing them back will incite a wild snowball fight. It’s all fun and games until he breaks out Aerosmith to attack your snow fort, then you’re having to reprimand him for using his Stand. >:((
He’ll tell you what it was like being in a detention center during Christmas, opening up more about his past. While he doesn’t seem to recount the time with obvious pain, you know him well and can tell when he’s hurting. Narancia would honestly consider proposing to you on the spot when you comfort him, saying that he’ll never have to spend this time of year alone now that he has you. It’s a sweet moment that he’ll literally never forget.
What Narancia would get you: Narancia would spend days making a custom mixtape, full of songs that you both love!!! He’d accompany the CD with bags of candy, bashfully offering to feed it to you.
What Narancia would like from you: If you wrote a song for him, he would probably cry from happiness. Narancia would be clapping like a madman when you finished singing it, saying it’s the best thing he’s ever heard in his life, and fully meaning it too.
Leone Abbacchio;
From an outsider’s perspective, one might expect Abbacchio to take a Grinch-like approach towards Christmas, but he’s surprisingly fine with it. Aside from loud caroling. He’ll make his displeasure for that known. It’s kind of always been just another month for him, but for your sake, he’ll make an effort to do whatever you please. Abbacchio grumbles as you drag him from place to place, but he’s literally melting on the inside at your cute enthusiasm. :’)
Abbacchio would forever imprint the sight of you in the snow into his memory. He watches the snowflakes dance around you, falling into your hair and glistening beautifully. While you’re going around trying to catch the snow, he allows himself this single happiness, silently wondering if he deserves it after everything he’s done. Before the negative thoughts can fester, you call him over, asking to make snow angels together. He doesn’t do it, he’ll just watch you having fun lmao.
You actually managed to convince him to wear matching sweaters, but not without a fair share of puppy eyes. Abbacchio is inclined to give in to most of your whims and this time is no different. Of course, he’ll only do it if no one is around, to save his honor. He’d enjoy having an arm wrapped around you by the fireplace, closing his eyes in contemplation. He feels immense gratitude to your presence in his life.
What Abbacchio would get you: Similar to Fugo, Abbacchio would feel worried about getting a good gift. He knows he can be prickly at times and feels this would be an opportunity to showcase his love for you. Eventually settles on a night out at your favorite restaurant and gifts you a bracelet at the end.
What Abbacchio would like from you: Your hand in marriage, he’d appreciate simple little things with lots of thought put into them. Making him breakfast, getting him a pair of shoes that goes with one of his outfits, stuff like that.
Trish Una;
Trish lives for all the cute couple-y stuff that you two can do during this season. Even if she won’t admit it outright, you can sense her excitement, but she’ll pout if you point it out. She’s not much for baking usually but will want to make cookies with you on the weekends as a date. Trish especially likes decorating them and gets super focused on getting the details perfect.
You two go on so many shopping trips. Trish will be holding your hand, taking you from store to store, trying on clothes together. She loves giving you recommendations based on what would complement your body type, you’ll be dressed to perfection at the end of the day. Trish doesn’t even bother looking at the price tags, she just picks what looks good and keeps going lmao.
In your downtime together, she’s going to be singing softly to you, running her hands through your hair as you lay down on her lap. Trish lives for intimate moments like this. She remembers how she loved spending Christmas with her mother, and while it hurts she can no longer do that, she’s immensely grateful to be with you. It makes the loneliness she would’ve felt more bearable. If you fall asleep while she sings to you, Trish will place a kiss to your forehead, whispering how she loves you in a way she’d normally be too embarrassed to.
What Trish would get you: Fashion and makeup baby !! It wouldn’t be exclusive to one day either. Lip gloss, eyeshadow palettes, new shoes, jewelry, bath bombs, the whole works. She gets a bit too into it.
What Trish would like from you: Matching accessories would make her heart practically beat out of her chest. That, or a charm bracelet, with charms linked to specific memories of your time together. <33
