Themes for 2023 (Sept 24th-30th):

Day 1 - Rebellion

From his rough start with Dr. Thompkins, to his rocky team-up with Black Lightning & the Outsiders, Duke’s always been quite the Rebel! Here’s a day to commemorate our Rebellious Rockin’ Robin!

Day 2 - Civilian Life

Duke’s time as a vigilante is full of intrigue & adventure, but what about his time outside of the mask? This day is all about exploring Duke’s civilian identity!

Day 3 - Fav Quote

From his introduction in Batman (2011) all the way up through his more recent appearances in Batman: Urban Legends, there’s plenty of quotes to pull from Duke. But which ones stand out among the crowd? Which ones have resonated the most with you? (And here’s a link to our Duke Reading guide in case you want a refresher!)

Day 4 - What is… Normal? (Meme/Free Day)

A free day for folks to share general Duke work, or of course, memes! This past year I’ve seen an influx as well with more general batfam fans questioning just how ‘normal’ or ‘sane’ our favorite bat is. And to that, I want to invite y’all to come on over and find out!

Day 5 - DnD, Wizards & Knights (oh my!)

One of Duke’s oldest special interests! He’s always been a bit of a fantasy nerd. This day is all about celebrating Duke’s hobbies of fantasy gaming and reading!

Day 6 - We Are Robins (Of the Future)

We’ve celebrated the We Are Robins of the Middletown collective before, but this year we’re predicting where they could go! Duke’s first team will always be an important part of his past, but how could they fit into his future?

Day 7 - Sun vs Moon

And to finish out this year’s Duke Week, we end on another note of duality. Duke’s a bat who operates mainly during the day, and occasionally is called upon at night. The bright sunlight of day may reveal something different about our hero compared to the cool moonlight of night.

I think if I were to write a Duke Thomas-centric story it'd be a rewrite of Batman & The Signal that actually remembers the We Are Robin gang. Like thought out character study/development arcs that answer questions like 'what happened to Dax's father?', 'what's Duke's mom's meta ability?', a dramatic reveal of Duke's heritage, & riko being trained by batgirl/oracle & maybe even a slowburn betrayal.

32- Spiders and Vigilantes

You shrieked when you saw it, sending the other three bats on their feet nearly instantly, and pointed to the huge spider crawling across the coffee table. Dick echoed your cry before hopping up onto the couch with you. You whimpered before yelling again as the spider inched closer to you and Dick, crying out for Jason who had stepped away for a minute to take a phone call. It had been going nice until this little hiccup.

Jason had invited you over to Wayne Manor with him to hang out with his brothers, something you had urged him to do more, and the five of you ended up picking up a video game to play. It had all been laughs and jokes until your boyfriend had to take a call.

Now, you were stranded on the back of the sofa with Dick Grayson nearly in tears next to you.

“What are you doing?” You said frantically. “You’re supposed to kill it!”

Dick scoffed, looking at you like you had just said the stupidest thing he had ever fucking heard. “Are you saying that because I’m a guy? That’s sexist.”

You rolled your eyes and mentally noted why Jason often said Dick was one of his most annoying brothers. “I’m saying it because you’re a vigilante. Spiders should not scare you.”

Tim, who was very well comfortable on the loveseat opposite of you, laughed. “Bruce is afraid of bats, and you really think we’re not scared of spiders?”

“Can one of you just kill it!” Duke exclaimed as he wavered in his balance on the arm of the sofa. You grabbed onto him, holding him steady before holding onto him as the spider inched closer. It was like the thing was daring you to make a move.

“Jason!” You called again.

A minute later he appeared in the doorway, confusion was written on his face as he observed the scene before him. “The fuck is going on here?” You only pointed at the spider in response. “Holy shit, that’s huge.”

You all agreed but urged him to quickly take it out. Jason watched the four of you a bit further, a ghost of a smile playing on his face before he rounded the couch. Looping an arm around your waist, he hoisted you over the back of the couch and carried you toward the door. The three boys protested loudly as the two of your left them to defend themselves.

“Asshole,” Dick called.

Jason laughed, “Should have let me win the last round of Mario Kart!”

As the living room door shut behind him, the only thing the two of you could hear was Duke screaming that the spider was on him before a crash.

“We should go see if they’re okay,” You said.

Placing a kiss on your forehead, Jason mumbled, “We should. Too bad I’m a really bad sore loser.”

Crazy how little Duke Thomas is used.

He's the only Metahuman crimefighter in the Batfamily and last I checked, he's active in Gotham as it's daylight protector.

How the hell do Batman books include Nightwing, a hero who operates in a whole different city, more than Duke, a hero who literally lives in the same city as Batman???

It's crazy, Duke has so much potential but he's put on the back burner because he's not a Robin.

Duke needs another book badly.
