I wrote a chapbook and it got published!! I kept this on the down low for a while as final details were sorted out but it’s available today 🥳 Take a peek at the cover art and one of the poems included below!
I’ve been writing for years now (If you didn’t know, now you know) and to finally have an actual collection put together and published has been a dream of mine forever. Working with @bottlecap-press has been a super smooth process and I’m so excited to have contributed to this indie press.
I hope when I say this it is true, but "On the Diagonal" is only my humble beginning. It would be extremely supportive of you, whoever is reading this, to pick up a copy of my first solo published work. It would truly mean a lot to me. The link to purchase is here: https://bottlecap.press/products/diagonal
Most of the poems in this collection were written in 2020, a few even earlier than that and a few from this year. I think the different time periods demonstrate a deeper level to the growth I’ve gone through as a writer, as my voice and poetic style has changed quite a lot over the course of my life.
A chapbook is a micro collection of poetry, and I used that format to take a focused look at a period of my past. I think we all experience a heartbreak that changes us forever. "On the Diagonal" aims to put that metamorphosis into words that add another layer of beauty to the transformations we all go through.

I’m so excited to be able to make this announcement tonight! I have published a poetry chapbook with @bottlecap-press!!!
I am so excited to release this information, especially to the writeblr community who has inspired me so much. This has been an amazing and humbling opportunity, and I’m so grateful to Craig from Bottlecap Press for all his hard work.
Embrace & Unravel is about trying to find yourself in other people, finding the right people, and convincing yourself you’ve moved on. These poems and short essay in this work explore the different feelings of angst and longing associated with what we consider love, what love looks like when it’s what we need, and the feelings associated with figuring life out.
Compiled over 3-4 years, these poems chronicle some of my thoughts and feelings as I learned more about myself and unlearned a lot about life as well. Though the poems mostly focus on love, processing all the emotions related to a coming-of-age era are at the heart of the scribblings in this book.
I hope you guys will take the chance to read Embrace & Unravel! If you do, please share your thoughts with me! You can either send me asks here, or to my writing side-blog called @authortango. Both physical and digital copies are available now on the Bottlecap Press website, and I will be including the link in the reblog to avoid any Tumblr shenanigans. I can’t wait to hear everyone’s thoughts about it!

Our eyes meet
and it seems
like forever between
Heartbeats
I needed
Something to Believe In
Instead I was hit hard
And left barely breathing
So much pain
From the face of an Angel
body of a demon
Thinking I was blessed
but now I'm just stressed out
deceived again
Scarred deep
reaching out for a star
That always seems
just out of our reach ....
...and she loves me,
or I wish she did..
hands on her hips
and I can taste the lies
on her lips again
she was never mine
so many times
so many instances ...
I'm not safe
and it's created
so many distances.
I've died inside
so many times
no longer interested
All the lines
down my wrist
from the missed attempts
but she loves me
and I'm convinced of it...
I'm scarred deep
probably why I hardly sleep
probably going to hell
from all the shit we did
all the fights
and long nights
and senseless s***
all the places we saved up
when the world had plans
to break us
Lies spit
trying to get
us to break up
all the times
we made up
And all the places we made love
fell down on our knees
praying for God
To save us
or just make a way
away from a grave
Any escape from the pain
That made us
Grateful for the opportunities
God gave us
but we were Relentless with it
Incidents I didn't start
But had the heart to finish
when I said I loved you
I meant it
I hope it lasts forever
never diminishes
loneliness is hell
and leaves you limited
And unforgiven
I know
I been living in it....

So, after years of work and effort, I’m happy to announce that I finally bit the bullet and got a collection of my poems published. It’s always been a dream of mine and I’m happy to say it’s finally happened. Most of them cover past relationships, but there’s more than just that in here.
I really appreciate @bottlecap-press for the opportunity to get this out there. You can order it now over at https://bottlecap.press/products/oflove

hi everyone! so i was just officially published by @bottlecap-press and wanted to share with my followers …. it would mean the world to me if you checked it out, link in my story :) $10 for a print and $7 for digital download.
I will be receiving 50% of proceeds and have decided all of what I earn will be donated to mutual aid funds supporting the thousands of women & people with uteruses who don’t identify as women, who will be most affected by this violent act against humanity. lives are at stake, people will die. and while yes, speaking to women and uterus owners — our rights have been taken. but we must recognize the people most vulnerable to this ruling — poor women and especially poor women of color. white silence is violence and I want to do better, and be louder.
I love you all, let’s grieve together.
(if you do buy a copy and want me to donate my proceeds to a specific mutual aid fund/organization, please let me know)
& a huge thank you to @bottlecappress for making my dreams come true. dreams I doubted could ever come true.

Bluebird by Joyce Miller released as a Bottlecap Press Feature
I am delighted to share that Bluebird, a short story I began working on meticulously at the end of 2021, has found a wonderful home as a 31-page-long Bottlecap Press Feature. At the heart of this 90’s early childhood millennial fiction is the ancient struggle of childhood growth and a wildly reinvented, hardly recognizable Jack and the Beanstalk that I hope excites the imagination as much as it conjures nostalgia for classic 90’s lunch foods such as Sprinkl’ins and Kool-Aid Bursts. Please visit Bottlecap Press’s wonderful Instagram page and website where you can find Bluebird and many other books that they have poured their energy into bringing to publication!

2018 Chapbook Contest: Weeks 7-8 Review
These last two weeks have been crazy with activity (hence us missing the last review!), but we’re back with another update!
After talking a little with the three winners, we dove into the timeline for the next few months, making sure to lay out the challenges we’ll be facing. Bob and I asked for any extra poems the writers had considered (but not included) for their MSS--in all three instances, we found ~2 poems that really struck us as important additions.
Otherwise, Bob and I did ~6 back-and-forth edits for each MS before passing it back to each writer for review :) We’ve confirmed the size of the chaps with Craig at @bottlecappress, picked out a typeface for each book, and are working now on the formatting and layout of pieces (shifting from 8.5x11 to 5x8). And we’re investigating cover art options!!
Stephen, Lyd, and Laura are all a pleasure to work with <3
Much love and see you next week! <3 -Christopher

We’ll have a new Tavern post each Wednesday, giving an inside look at the N! process, so stay tuned for more updates!

Stars fall from the heaven
I kept in my sky
I Let it rain
tear drops stain
the window pane
from the pain that I hide
And the light starts to fade
behind my eyes...
It's insane
how fast time flies
Liquid rage
Cyanide Lies
fill my page
As I kill time
Tired inside
Feeling aged
A villain
Still enslaved
I fill this cage
I built from rage
Iron fireflies
As I wonder
is she still mine
Her ghost haunts my page
Exotic on the stage
Exorcize the demons
in my mind
Burn the sage
As I turn the page
before the stress inside
Becomes weaponized
And in seconds I
Release all the madness
I've kept inside
And after this disaster
Noone is left behind
To clean up
this mess of mine
And I've become
Dangerously numb
And unprotected
Unrecognized
In record time

Blurbs
As of now, all blurbs have been received! I really like getting two for the back of every chapbook we release--besides the cover, I’m personally drawn to the back cover notes for all books I come across, seeing whether these mini-reviews invite me to read further.
Here are the blurbs in full(!):
EVERYTIME I PARK MY CAR I FEEL LIKE I'M DOING SOMETHING WRONG BY JOSEPH PARKER OKAY
This chapbook has a story where an armadillo is the most revered animal in the world. I found that relatable because I revere armadillos very much. It also has a story that is very pro-snake, which I support. You will probably have fun reading this thing. And one of my favorite parts is the story titles, so if you're busy you can just read the titles and have fun that way, too.  –Steve Roggenbuck
This book is the response to the reality we are all trying to end. Imagine you didn't sleep for 8 days and then you told someone you love them. This is that moment.  –Audrey Honeydrone
LOATHE/LOVE/LATHE BY ALAIN GINSBERG
As a poet, Alain Ginsberg is resourceful with language and imagery, finding metaphor and anecdote where the reader had previously thought language had already dredged all it could out of that instance; as a vocally transgender poet, Alain Ginsberg is a poignantly necessary voice. There is often a lot of talk in literary communities about what makes a "trans poem" a "trans poem," and while the majority of Alain's poems mention they are trans somewhere within the text, there is never a sense of force or plea; rather, while Alain's gender is influential in all aspects of their work, it does not define their work. Alain's work is instead profoundly influenced by the daunting task of humanizing and unraveling trauma, from abusive relationships to harassment by customers at their food-service job, and throughout their narrative, Alain never lies to their audience or sugarcoats the circumstance. Instead, Alain presents their truth unflinchingly, letting the audience know they've got some heavy shit to talk about, but it's our choice if we want to listen. And goddamn, I am positive y'all will want to listen. –Linette Reeman, writer, performer, Aries
Loathe/Love/Lathe is a phenomenal book written by an even more magnificent poet. Alain Ginsberg brings to every poem a rawness that only they are capable of bringing. Exploring topics such as bodies, gender, safety, and the self (whatever the "self" is), Ginsberg provides not only understanding but an honest gentleness that is so necessary. No other book of poetry that I have had the privilege of reading does justice to the lived realities of young queer Americans in the same way Loathe/Love/Lathe does. Having read this book a few times over now, each time being left without words yet with an intense desire to hold every person I've ever loved, I truly recommend this work.  –Erin Taylor, writer, Interviews for Maudlin House, Sagittarius
OUR OWN SOFT BY KATIE CLARK
Katie Clark's collection is a fierce journey into gender and sexual identity. They say, "I wake up with your body my body" and "I was a boy until I wasn't a boy." These lines are absolutely what we need right now. The collection is self-conscious about its own body and explores what it means to fall deeply into the abyss of others' bodies when you are barely living in your own.
–Joanna Valente, Marys of the Sea (The Operating System)
the poems of our own soft refuse to protect us from sharp edges as we unravel their secrets in the low light of unsleep. to move forward we rely on remembered litanies, associating to make ripples. imperfect perfect summer / orange at the edges / water / water / what clothes / which trees to bother climbing / what do you see when you try to see yourself / what do you see when looking back over your shoulder? is this nostalgia or something else invented to stand in its place? either way, it feels sun-warm: a snake coiled on a rock that may strike or may stay still as death. Clark writes, “it doesn’t always happen in the order that it happened,” then throws the past in the air like confetti / like releasing a hive of bees to hunt for what is sweet, stinging as they seek the honey out.  –Emily O'Neill, Pelican (YesYes Books)
A big thanks to these thoughtful folks for their love and support as we enter another year of releases <3
Print Proofs
I’ve started sending along files to @bottlecappress and am excited to begin print proofs soon! In the next week or so I hope to have the rest of the files ready for this important stage :)
Stay tuned, as our 2017 video poem series begins soon!
Much love, and see you next week! <3 -Christopher
