𝕺𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐔𝐏𝐎𝐍 𝐀 𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐄, there was a vast enchanted forest called the Moors. This forest existed a long time ago, even before humans settled within its borders, and it was home to countless magical creatures who lived free. Creatures that humans had never dreamed could exist. They all had their uniqueness and strangeness, and even though they were from different species, they lived in harmony with each other ⸻ something that sometimes even members of the same species could not do. The Moors were neither a kingdom nor a dynasty. Hierarchy was unknown among its inhabitants, everyone was equal (even with their differences). However, the forest had its guardians, the fairies. Fairies, specifically forest fairies, were powerful beings who served as protectors of the forests. They were responsible for keeping the Pillar of Harmony intact and protecting the forest from those with evil and malicious intentions.
When the first humans established their kingdom near the edge of the forest, the relationship between them and the inhabitants of the Moors was one of the best ⸻ which seemed surprising. Curiosity ran through both worlds, which were close but different in many ways. However, as the years went by, this friendly relationship seemed to become more unstable and fragile.
Until the fateful day when Moors lost his guardian to human greed.
Stefan, the young prince of the human kingdom, had greed and selfishness in his heart when he tried to dream that one day he could control the Moors as well as his own kingdom. But things didn't go according to plan and it backfired.
On a frosty dawn, Stefan and a few guards set out on a mission to capture the wings of the Moors' guardian fairy, imprison her, and finally take over the forest. Not as discreet as they should have been, they entered the forest before dawn, armed and determined. Things began to go wrong when, instead of capturing the guardian fairy, they first captured her four-year-old son, Geto Suguru.
The little fairy boy, who was absent-mindedly wandering through the forest, watching the day creatures rest while the night creatures went on with their lives, didn't notice the humans approaching with their evil intentions, and the next thing he knew, he was grabbed by the arms. The boy whimpered and cried, trying desperately to free himself from the arms that were twice his size and stronger than his frail frame. Geto let out an agonizing scream as he felt the metal chains wrapped around the beginning of his wings. The pain and burning made the boy choke on his screams and tears, which mingled into a painful sound.
Once Stefan had gained the wings of the helpless child, he pursued his ambition to gain the wings of the Guardian of the Moors. Geto was thrown to the side, writhing in pain and crying for his lost wings. The pain seemed unbearable. Not just the physical pain, but the pain of knowing that he could no longer fly, that he would never touch the sky again. His freedom in the sky, where no one could reach him, had been taken from him when he was still a helpless child.
"My son..." Geto heard his mother's voice and her footsteps approaching his slumped body. "My dear son... what have they done to you?"
"There you are, Guardian of the Moors." Stefan spat out the words with contempt.
"Young Prince Stefan of the realm of men..." the fairy said, trying to control her anger, "Give my son back his wings!”
"If you give me yours, I might think about returning his... if I don't take them for myself in the future."
"You will regret this moment." The woman's hand closed tightly on her staff.
"And why would I regret it? You're a freak!"
"Your wife is pregnant with a beautiful baby girl who is about to be born, and in a few months, if not weeks, you will take over your human kingdom... it would be a shame to have something as precious as your daughter taken away from you."
"How do you know that, you witch?!" the man shouted angrily.
"Listen, everyone," the fairy said, drawing everyone's attention as a green spell emanated from her, "The princess will indeed grow up with grace and beauty and be loved by those who know her, but at sunset on her eighteenth birthday, she will stick her finger through the spindle of a spinning wheel and then fall into the deep sleep of death! A sleep from which she will never awaken unless awakened by a kiss of true love! And this curse will last forever, no power on earth can change it!"
"How dare you curse my daughter, barely born!" Stefan drew his sword from its sheath and positioned himself to attack the guardian.
"And how dare you rip my son's wings off and think you'd get away with it!"
Geto's eyes blurred with tears and an unbearable pain in his back as he watched his mother fight the future king. The little boy couldn't keep up with what was happening, his head was spinning and the only thing he could see was his mother's last breaths as she was caught off guard at a clear disadvantage in the unfair fight. As his mother fell to her knees, he felt the earth tremble and huge thorns grow larger along the edges of the Moors. Frightened, and not knowing what those giant thorns were, Stefan and his companions fled with Geto's wings, happy that they had killed the guardian of Moors and won her son's wings. Without enough strength, the boy crawled over to his mother's fallen body. He rocked the woman from side to side, trying to wake her, but his actions seemed to be in vain. His mother's heartbeat could no longer be heard. With a tightness in his chest, Geto lay down on his mother's lifeless body and cried himself unconscious.
Deep down, he wished this was all just a nightmare that would end the next day. And he would live happily ever after with his mother.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ ㅤ ✶
With the Wall of Thorns, Moors was protected from any threat from humans or any other creature that tried to take over the forest. Geto thought that time would make him forget that tragic night in his life, but he couldn't have been more wrong. But time only helped him develop a dislike for humans and their arrogance and greed. Time helped Geto work hard to train his powers and learn to live without his wings. Even at the age of eight, he had incredible abilities that might have taken longer to learn.
The sun was rising in the east, and while the nocturnal creatures went to their shelters, the daytime creatures awoke to the sun's rays and began their day. Little Suguru, eight years old, followed the forest path to a lake he always went to in the morning. Ever since he was a baby, his mother had taken him to the pond to pick some of the plants that grew around the edge of the pond. It was a little routine that kept his mother's memory alive.
Geto just didn't expect to be followed that morning.
"Who's there?" The boy turned when he heard the hurried footsteps, but there was no one there. He returned to his destination, but the footsteps followed him again, "Whoever it is, I don't want to play!" A low chuckle echoed through the room, causing Geto to roll his eyes. With an idea in his head, he started on his way again. When the one following him was least expecting it, Suguru quickly turned around to see a little girl half his age fall to the ground, startled by the boy's sudden movement, "What do you think you're doing following me?" Geto crossed his arms in front of him, but all he got in return was a giggle.
Geto watched the little girl sitting on the ground. She didn't seem to belong to any of the species that sheltered in the Moors. She resembled Geto physically, but she didn't have wings or a pair of horns.
"Why do you have horns?" the little girl asked with a smile. She stood up, slapped her hand on her baby blue dress, brushed the dirt off it, and stared at the boy in front of her.
"Because I'm a fairy." Geto rolled his eyes and returned to his morning chores, "Now leave me alone!"
"My fairy aunts don't have horns!" The little girl followed Geto with light footsteps.
"That means we are a different kind of fairy."
"Wow! There's more than one kind of fairy?" the little girl smiled, "I'd like to be a fairy!"
"And why would you like to be a fairy?" asked Geto curiously.
"Because you have magic powers! And some fairies can fly too!" she said, her eyes shining, "I can't do anything interesting or unique, even though my fairy aunts keep telling me I'm a princess, whatever that means, I don't have anything extraordinary about me..."
"If you're kind, you might discover something extraordinary you can do."
"Can I... can I touch your horns?" The little girl asked.
"Um, just once!" Geto leaned down a bit so that the little one could touch his horns.
Geto thought that this little interaction would end right there, and that he would never see this little girl again in the vast forest. He just didn't expect her to come down to the lake with him every morning to talk about anything and everything.
Her presence could fill the boy's loneliness.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ ㅤ ✶
When that little girl told him there was nothing extraordinary about her, Geto was absolutely sure it was a lie. And he seemed to prove it with every passing year. And the passing years never scared Geto, but perhaps his feelings were the only things that could scare him.
Within a few months, the presence of the little human at his side had become commonplace. It was difficult to spend any time apart. They had become inseparable best friends. They were always running around in the forest, playing with each other and with the other creatures that lived there. And from time to time, the girl even helped Geto practice controlling his magic. They shared stories and secrets.
And there was only one secret that he had never shared with her...
Every day, Geto Suguru fell more and more in love with that gentle, delicate human being.
Geto didn't know when he fell in love, for him there was no right moment, he just fell in love. And maybe his feelings were the biggest problem. They couldn't be together, not when they were from different species, or when she was the child his own mother had cursed before she died ⸻ a fact that wasn't hard to discover. The young fairy would have to suppress his feelings and accept that they could never be together in this universe. However, Geto decided to enjoy every minute of his friendship with the human who had stolen his heart until her eighteenth birthday, when she would return to her home ⸻ the human kingdom.
"It's a very nice gift, I'm sure she'll like it," said Dival, the shape-shifter who had been rescued by Geto's mother and had since become the advisor and right hand of the Guardians of the Moors ⸻ and who had also advised Geto in his training.
"It's just a souvenir..." Geto sighed, looking at the amethyst necklace he had made.
"You should tell her your romantic feelings for her..." Dival watched the quick movements of the boy's chest.
"I can't do that, Dival"
"Why not?"
"First of all, she is a princess. Just as I have my responsibilities as the guardian of the Moors, she has hers as the future ruler of the human kingdom. Besides, we're different species. You know how humans treat anything that is different by their standards. Not to mention that we're just friends, that's how she sees me and will always see me..."
"And all this keeps you from being happy in love?" Dival crossed his arms.
"These things aren't as easy as they seem..." Geto sighed softly, "Especially when your feelings aren't reciprocated.
"You should definitely get rid of this idea of unrequited love. She likes you! You can see how she looks at you and how she treats you!"
"It is not like that! She's just kind to me, like she is to all beings. I don't get any special treatment." Geto clutched the amethyst necklace in his hand, afraid of losing it, and left for the young princess' house. "See you soon, Dival!"
"How stubborn he is!" Dival muttered to himself as he watched Geto's figure disappear between the thick-stemmed trees in this part of the forest.
The conversation he'd had with Dival a few minutes ago replayed in his mind: could she possibly reciprocate his romantic feelings?
The answer seemed to be right in front of him…
Geto stopped walking quickly when he noticed the young princess singing a love song while dancing with another human. Perhaps Suguru had to worry about how this tall, white-haired, blue-eyed young man had managed to get past his mother's wall of thorns. But the dreamy smile on the young woman's face made his heart squeeze with pain and fear. The fairy looked away and decided that it would be best to wait until the princess left for her kingdom to deliver her gift ⸻ if only he had the courage.
The young fairy made his way to the lake he used to go to with his mother, which had become one of his meeting places with the young princess, and sat on a rock by the shore, watching the crystal clear water and the aquatic creatures that lived there. Geto didn't know how long he stayed there, pondering feelings that should never have blossomed.
"Sugu!" The princess's voice snapped Geto out of his deep thoughts, and the boy turned back, murmuring her name.
"What are you doing here?" Suguru asked, she should have been on her way to the castle by now.
"You didn't think I would leave without saying goodbye, did you?" The girl smiled and sat down next to the boy.
"I thought you'd be more excited to see where you came from and to see your parents again."
"Yes, I'm excited... But then I remember that I'm leaving all this behind and I get scared..." she sighed.
"You can come back, you know." Geto turned to the princess.
"But the thing is, sometimes I don't know if I really want to go! It's a completely different world, even though it's right next door. And I don't want to leave you..." she looked up at the clear blue sky, it would be a while before it darkened. "Could you come with me?"
"You know what they did to my wings and my mother, I don't think I'll be welcome there." Geto sighed deeply. A few years ago he had told her the fateful story of the day King Stefan invaded the Moors, but he hadn't told her that it was his father who had orchestrated the attack and torn off his wings.
"I know, I just don't want to be away from you."
"Come to me whenever you want, I'll be here waiting for you." Geto gently held the princess' hand and placed the stone from the necklace in her palm. The young woman smiled gently and hugged Suguru until he gasped for breath, drawing a laugh from her.
And Geto, deep in his heart, hoped that she would come back as soon as possible.
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ ㅤ ✶
Geto put his hand to his forehead and took a deep breath. He was sitting on a kind of throne made of twisted logs and thorns, the place he usually used for one of his duties as Guardian. The sky was dark and the stars were not visible, and Geto found himself clinging more and more to the mere memories that floated through his mind.
"Geto! Geto!" Dival's desperate voice came from afar in his raven form, flying as fast as he could.
"What now, Dival?" Geto watched as the crow turned into a human in front of him.
"They're invading the Moors!"
"WHAT?!" Suguru quickly got up from his seat, eyes wide with disbelief at the news.
"Your mother's curse somehow came true and King Stefan was furious, he sent troops to attack the Moors, but apparently the wall is keeping them out, but I'm afraid that won't last long."
"The sleep curse has come true..." Geto sighed" Suguru looked at a random spot on the ground, his face blank, "She will sleep forever..."
"Can you wake her?" Dival asked.
"I've tried over the years, when I found out she was the princess my mother cursed, it didn't work."
"Can't you try now that the curse has come true?"
"I could try..." Geto looked at Dival, who seemed to be hiding something, but revealed it by looking for ways to wake the princess. "First we have to get there, then I'll think about waking her."
"You'll have to get past the king's troops first."
"That's the least of the problems, Dival," Geto smiled sideways.
And indeed, the troops of the human army were no match for Geto Suguru's power. With a flick of his finger, the fairy immobilized the soldiers, sending them into a deep sleep until he could reverse the spell. Determined, he made his way to the castle, using his magic to clear the way and avoid any unpleasant and unnecessary conflicts.
"King Stefan..." His voice rang out from the throne room, drawing the king's attention.
"You!" the king said in a voice of disgust.
"Well, I think you know that we have some unresolved issues in the past that make me hold on with all my might so as not to crush that tiny little brain of yours. However, due to the current circumstances, I'd like you to listen to my somewhat irrefutable proposal." Geto's hands closed on the staff that had once belonged to his mother.
"What do you want?"
"Wow, that was pretty quick to convince you..." a sideways smile appeared on Suguru's lips, "If you, noble king, withdraw your troops from the Moor's border of your own free will and never come near my forest again, perhaps I can wake your beloved and sweet daughter."
"Can you wake her?" the king's voice came out choked. In addition to his ego, his daughter's life was at stake.
"Only on my terms!" Suguru lied.
"I promise, I promise to leave your forest alone, just save my daughter!"
"I hope you keep your promise or the consequences will be unimaginable." Geto's voice was firm, "Take me to the princess."
The king, still unsure of his decision, ordered one of his guards to take Geto to where the princess rested in her deep sleep. As the fairy entered the huge, luxurious room, he encountered a figure he didn't like very much. The white-haired boy turned towards Suguru, his hands clenching the wooden staff. Geto's purple eyes met the crystal blue of the stranger he had caught dancing with the princess in the forest not long ago.
"Black hair and a pair of horns? You must be the guardian of the Moors," the blue-eyed boy said.
"Get out of here," Geto said, controlling his tone.
"Wow, the princess said you were kind, I don't see much of that kindness," the boy smiled sideways and crossed his arms in front of him. "I bet your kiss would wake her up..." he muttered to himself, getting ready to leave the room.
"What did you say?" Geto looked at the stranger suspiciously.
"Nothing." The boy smiled. "If you'll excuse me, I have some diplomatic business to attend to with the king."
After the boy left, Geto made his way to the princess's bed, where she slept peacefully. This was not a new sight; they had already fallen asleep by the lake they visited every day ⸻ it seemed like yesterday that Geto was studying the princess's features, memorizing all her curves and smallest details under the starry sky. But unlike the last time they had slept in each other's company, when the first rays of sunlight had awakened him and the princess had cracked a broad smile and wished Suguru a good morning, she wouldn't wake up now, not if the spell wasn't broken. Geto sighed, he had been quietly trying to remove the spell from his mother ever since he had discovered that she was the Princess, Stefan's daughter, but nothing was strong enough to break it. And even now, after years of training and trying to control his power, nothing woke her.
"I'm sorry..." Geto's voice came out lower than usual, "I'm sorry I couldn't save you! It's my fault that I was so weak that none of my attempts to free you from this curse worked. I'm sorry I couldn't give you what you needed and be who you wanted, I'm not worthy of having you by my side, not when the only thing that prevails in my heart is hatred. You're too good for this world, too good for me. I wish I could do anything to have you by my side... just once." With a trembling hand, Geto reached for the icy cheek of the sleeping princess and slowly moved closer, touching his lips lightly to hers. He whispered another apology and turned, ready to flee the castle and fortify the wall around Moors, knowing that the king would not let his lies go unchallenged.
"Sugu...?" The weak, sleepy voice of the princess made the fairy stop walking quickly and turn towards the young woman. "You came to see me?"
"I just wanted to see if you arrived safely."
"I just fell asleep..." She sat down on the bed and smiled, "Couldn't you stay a little longer, I want to show you the castle... please."
"Then let's go..." Geto relented.
"Come on, I want you to see everything here!" She smiled openly and hugged Suguru tightly before wrapping her right arm around the fairy's left and leading him through the castle corridors to the throne room where Stefan was.
When they arrived at the scene, the king looked in surprise at his daughter, who was well and awake, and observed the intertwined arms with disgust.
"Arrest him!" the king shouted to the guards, who attacked Suguru, knocking his staff from his hand and binding him to his arm with steel chains, causing the fairy to scream in agony. The princess looked up in horror and saw Geto being carried away, writhing in pain. She tried to save him from the guards, but was stopped by other guards at the king's behest.
"What are you doing?" she looked at the king with watery eyes, "Let him go, please! He hasn't done anything! Please leave him alone!"
"Don't worry, child, I'm just saving our kingdom from this freak!"
"Freak?!" the young woman looked at her parents in disbelief, "He's a living being, just like us! He's never done anything wrong, no evil! Geto Suguru is the kindest person I know, please let him go!"
"HIS MOTHER CURSED YOU, DO YOU THINK I'LL FORGIVE HIS KIND FOR THAT?!"
"How can you blame him when you are the real culprit?"
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN?"
"My fairy aunts told me that you stole Geto's wings and killed his mother in an attempt to take over the Moors." Tears streamed down the young woman's face, "How could you dare to do such a cruel thing, he was just a child!"
"WHAT DOES IT MATTER? THEY TOOK YOU AWAY FROM ME!"
"And you took away his mother! Forever!" The princess wiped her tears with her hands and released the guards. "Because of their selfish desires, the Moors are afraid of humans, afraid of losing their families and their freedom, they are not hideous monsters, they have feelings too. And I can't stay in a place and with people who feel entitled to destroy the lives of everything that is different from them!"
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ ㅤ ✶
The princess ran frantically through the castle corridors as she fled from the guards. After arguing with her father, she soon fled the place, determined to find Geto and free him from prison so they could return to Moors. Looking for a place to lose the guards, she entered a dark room and waited for the guards to pass by. When the sound of footsteps quickly faded, she breathed a sigh of relief; now she would have one less problem to worry about when she found Suguru. However, something piqued her interest when she noticed something in the middle of the room. It looked like a cupboard covered with a long, thick, dusty cloth. She approached the object and, without thinking twice, pulled the cloth down, revealing what it was.
The huge glass box allowed her to see inside, and the young woman couldn't hide her surprise when she realized that she was standing in front of Suguru's wings, which had been stolen by her father.
‘They are beautiful...' the young woman thought, staring in wonder at the pair of wings in front of her. However, she quickly snapped out of her trance when she heard footsteps in the hallway. She took a deep breath, picked up the wings, wrapped them in the cloth, and carefully ran to the catacombs where the cells were.
Noticing that no one was in the catacombs, the princess left her wings in a hidden corner and, on tiptoe, picked up the key hanging on the wall near the exit and went to the cell where Geto was.
"Sugu...?" She whispered, searching the darkness for the fairy. When she heard the boy call her name, she let out a relieved sigh and opened the cell, approaching the fairy in the corner, who was writhing in pain, her wrists aching from the handcuffs. Gently, the princess removed the handcuffs and asked him to wait for her while she fetched something. She walked quickly, picking up Geto's wings where she had left them, but the wings seemed to move on their own with each step she took as she approached him. When the wings slipped from her hands and met their true owner, the princess was even more amazed to see Geto with his majestic wings.
"As much as I'd like to admire you longer, I'm afraid we have to leave as soon as possible before they come looking for me here!"
"Why are we running away?"
"I may have had a fight with my father..."
"You did what?" Geto asked incredulously.
"I had a fight with my father after you were taken away, I can't let my father treat you like that."
"You shouldn't have fought with him... not for me. You just came back home, you found your family again..."
"Why don't you let me save you just this once?" the young woman took Geto's hands in her own, "When I arrived here, I must admit I was excited by the idea of a new world, new places to explore and new people to meet, but at no time did I feel like I belonged here, not like I did in Moors. So please, take me home with you..."
"Are you sure this is what you want?" Geto asked, trying to hide his happiness at what he had just heard from the princess.
"I am absolutely sure."
"Then let's go home!"
ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ ㅤ ✶
The princess clung to Geto as tightly as she could while the fairy flew through the sky as if there was no tomorrow. Over the years, Suguru had resigned himself to never experiencing that feeling of freedom again, but apparently he was wrong. Having his wings again seemed like a dream, and to his happiness, it was a dream come true.
When they arrived in Moors, the princess asked Dival to deliver a letter to the king, saying that she had run away and would return to the forest and live there, where she had always felt at home, but that she could occasionally visit the kingdom and spend time with her biological family if they wanted her around.
"Are you going to fly around all night?" The princess asked with a smile as she watched Geto approach her.
"Maybe, it feels too good to stop."
"Your wings... They are beautiful... may I touch them?"
With a feeling of déjà vu, Geto approached the princess and allowed her to gently run her hand over the black feathers of his wings.
"Thank you... for saving me and for loving me as much as I love you."
"Wha... what?"
"I like you, Suguru. I like you so much that sometimes I feel like my heart will explode if I stay by your side for too long... you're my everything. That's why I want to be selfish and have you by my side until the end of this world."
"Well, I think I'll be more than happy to stay by your side until you don't want me anymore." Geto approached the princess, placing one of his hands on her waist, pulling her closer to his body, while the other rested on her cheek, his thumb making a light circular caress of her skin. Slowly, Suguru brought his lips to hers and gave her a soft kiss, which was immediately returned by the princess. Even though he had dreamed of this moment for a long time, Geto didn't rush into the kiss, but enjoyed and savored every moment that their lips were together, as if they had all the time in the world.
"I love you more than you can imagine..." When they broke apart for lack of air, Geto rested his forehead on hers and smiled openly, it all seemed like a dream and if it turned out to be a dream, he didn't want to wake up ever again. The fairy's hands closed around the young woman's waist and he hugged her tightly, as if she could disappear from his arms at any moment.
"But I love you more." The princess said as she rested her cheek on Suguru's chest and listened to his heartbeat, which was slowing down.
"That's impossible, darling!" Geto smiled openly and kissed the princess's forehead, "But I'll let you believe it is."

Chapter 12 of Harrow the Ninth
Act 2 has the same weird wrong-sized image for it as Act 1 did
This is "six months before the Emperor's murder", so it's been three months since the first act. Incidentally, the prologue is "the night before the Emperor's murder", which means that Number Seven actually took only nine months to get to them, and not ten
So they are going around killing planets, and then killing their souls so that the Resurrection Beasts can't eat them to get stronger. But the planet's soul right after it's been killed isn't very dangerous and can be dispatched by Harrow in eight and a half minutes. So why didn't John just kill the souls of the nine planets right after they died? I guess maybe he didn't know that they would become more powerful back then? But if they were chasing him for all of eternity, it seems like he would have had plenty of time to get rid of them before they became powerful. Or was there something different about the nine planets?
Also a little curious, if they've been going around killing planets for 10,000 years, did it never occur to any of the Lyctors to try to absorb the planet's soul?
Tumblr media
But she can hold the sword now. I guess because of what she did to encase it in bone? Is this why they need swords - to kill planets? Are the swords necessary for this? If she has a perfectly functional sword that she's figured out how to hold and can use to kill planets, why does she also need to have a rapier?
Tumblr media
This sort of implies that using the sword is not actually necessary for this, in fact
Tumblr media
I guess this is supposed to mean that the River is less concrete than flesh and bone magic, but more concrete than soul magic? But yeah, Harrow is right, this analogy is terrible, just like the man-eating lava fish analogy from earlier
But I gather from this that the hungry ghosts do not attack you if you go into the River with just your spirit, only if you go with your body. Which sort of raises the question of why Cassiopeia went into the River with her body that one time, instead of just her spirit? It sounds like from the prologue and also this chapter, that you can fight Resurrection Beasts just fine with only your spirit
Tumblr media
Are all the planet souls insect-shaped in the River? There was a lot of insect language in the prologue
Tumblr media
In Gideon the Ninth, Harrow is always carrying around bone chips to use for necromancy, and seems to have an infinite supply of them somehow. In this book, she exclusively extracts pieces of her own body to use for necromancy. Is it just that she no longer has access to whatever infinite supply of bone chips she used to have, or was she doing it this way all along and Gideon just didn't notice? Also, I note that doing this when you're just a spirit is apparently fine, unlike when they were in the shuttle
The killing of the planet's soul seems like way too physical and gory and like, dependent on specific types of IRL anatomy to be like, a fight against something's soul. Why does a planet's soul have flesh in the River? Why does it have a brain? Why does it work the same way an animal does? These things aren't universal even among just organisms on earth. It's seems odd. If it's meant to be just in Harrow's head, the way that the corpses in the shuttle were, why does it matter if she stabs it in the brain, versus any other part of its body?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So this is why everyone is convinced that Harrow will die in the prologue, when they are fighting the Resurrection Beast. Harrow has a sort of confusing partial Lyctorhood - she has access to the Lyctoral well, which she in theory shouldn't if she had removed Gideon's soul, but indeed doesn't seem to have Gideon's soul in every other respect. But regardless, it seems like there's an easy solution to this - since no one else on the Mithraeum has this issue, someone else could surely just cast some necromancy over her to protect her body while she's in the River. Surely the other Lyctors (and John) aren't so petty as to not realize that this is beneficial for everyone, right?

It’s finally time for Magical Girl au yaaay! I’ve wanted to make one since I started watching Sailor Moon (& rewatched Magica Madoka) a couple months ago 🐙
I use the term Magical Girl loosely, but it doesn’t mean everyone has a skirt & highlighter color palette. Really it only means you get a cool outfit transformation & magic for fighting demons.
The breathing styles are like different forms of magical girls. Different divisions that Magical Girls train under I should say. (Aka if canon Slayer corps cared more about having strong highly trained members from the start instead of the final arc). The most popular/prevalent Breathing Styles have their own division (which is why Insect or Love doesn’t have one, since those were created recently and used only by one person)
There’s a bigger emphasis on teamwork (because that’s usually how the protagonists overpowers enemies that would definitely kill them otherwise) so just about every mission no matter your rank is with at least one other Slayer.
I also use “Division Leader” & “Hashira” often but don’t get them mixed up. Out of the Hashira, only about 4-5 have led their own divisions.
All Division Leaders are Hashira, but not all Hashira are Division Leaders if that makes sense.
Tumblr media
Division Leader’s Estates are for housing (temporarily) and training of the lower ranks of their breathing style.
The non-Division Leader Hashira don’t have personal Estates. But because teamwork & friendship is important, they all share one Estate. Its the size of an average personal Estate, just split between the rest of the Hashira. It’s big enough for them to live comfortably without overcrowding each other
Out of the non-division leaders, Mitsuri, Uzui, Muichiro and Obanai share that estate. Shinobu stays with Kanae in the Butterfly Estate.
(The Kakushi are same as in canon)
Main divisions:
Magical Water Division, led by Giyuu & Sabito
Magical Wind Division, led by Sanemi
Magical Stone Division, led by Gyomei
Magical Flame Division, led by Kyojuro
Magical Flower Division, led by Kanae (yes she’s alive)
I know that Thunder Breathing was one of the original five, but I can’t find a suitable Leader or purpose for their Division. Zenitsu isn’t near powerful enough, Jigoro retired before the era of our current hashira. So I replaced their division slot with Flower because Kanae <3
As far as weapons go;
Every magical slayer has a sword and learns their respective breathing style, and each one of them has a specific ability/magic set.
I’m Introducing magic as a stand-in for the Pretty Guardians’ specialized attacks. (Like how Sailor Moon has ‘Moon Spiral Heart Attack’ that’s specialized to her usage only.)
In the au, Everyone has a Sword and their Breathing Style, but everyone’s magic abilities are different.
Sometimes you just need that extra slap to take out demons. This would definitely help when swords break mid fight. While magic alone isn’t enough to take out a demon, it can weaken them which could give slayers time to call for backup or retreat.
Also you pretty much sell your soul to become a Slayer

guy i had the coolest gt dream there was like a whole plotline
It was in a world where magic had weakened and majorly started to die out so the general population didnt know about it anymore but then it started coming back and all these old magic beings started waking up/returning
And there was like a main villain who was ancient but had been asleep for centuries called the elemental queen and she’d thrown everything out of balance when magic still existed by starting a dictatorship were she could control everything
So i guess historically there’d been multiple magical rulers who weren’t really rulers but kind of like caretakers of various magical divisions like the oceans or volcanoes and it was kind of analogous to dieties and she’d been like the high caretaker but tried to take all the power for herself and sent various beings like sea serpents into an eternal slumber like the one she’d been in
Also she was a ✨giant✨
But the gt vibes didnt stop there bc these beings called titans had also existed previously and they were magic adjacent and size shifters but when magic disappeared they were stuck in a human sized form for the most part and forgot what they rlly were over the centuries that followed
So in the dream weird stuff started happening around the world as magic started returning and we kept seeing news story about like sea serpents and unicorns and shit being seen with more frequency and everyone was debating whether it was all a hoax or not. and then i got kidnapped by this serial killer and tried to escape and fell into this cave full of crystals and the serial killer followed me. And then this magic elephant like being showed up and ended up killing the serial killer and letting me go and then i was trying to figure out wtf was going on so i started investigating and following one of the government agents who showed up after the prior incident except i was a shit spy so i was immediately found out but somehow got recruited as a geologist (idk dream logic).
At the same time i met this other girl, A (bc i dont remember her name), online who also liked g/t and we became friends and then realized we had feelings for each other and it turned out we lived near each other so we met up and she was rlly cute and nice and we started casually dating
So then i got told i had to go on this expedition w/ this team who kind of became found family to this remote mountain so i had to say bye to her for a bit and then on the expedition it was revealed we were trying to find something related to these incidents of ppl spontaneously combusting but it was rlly pyrokinesis related and they had a suspect who was from the remote mountain area and thought there might be like a pyrokinetic cult there. Instead of a cult tho we found the elemental queen who disguised herself as an old human lady at first but then we realized stuff was off and she revealed herself and was trying to kill us and we had to flee through this canyonlands esque area and on the way we found out that she had several descendants who’d also been asleep and were the rightful caretakers of the different magic regions but she had taken the power for herself. One of them was this younger guy named Oliver who had a giant merperson form but also a human form who ended up disobeying her and helping us escape.
So we got back and reported everything and then A showed up and said she’d found out she was actually a titan when i was gone and was freaking out and was like its fine if u dont want to see me anymore and obviously i was like uhh no giant gf? Thats a win for the gays?
And then oliver showed up and was like i ran away from my mom/the elemental queen bc she’s like, really mean. So the found family group was like good on ya, you can stay with us. But then the elemental queen showed up in human form and wanted him to come back bc ig her spell to steal their powers didnt work from afar and her power was weakening specifically over the oceans bc ig he was supposed to be the ocean caretaker. And we were like uh no fuck off, obviously, but then bc the oceans didnt have a caretaker they started getting all out of balance and there were giant storms and floods and stuff so we ended up helping him escape from her and go to reclaim his rightful position as the caretaker but then we would also have to say bye which was sad and he wasn’t sure he even wanted to be caretaker bc he had friends/family for the first time.
Meanwhile A and I were dating but nobody on the team knew she was a titan and they thought titans were evil bc i guess the elemental queen was secretly also a titan.
AND THEN I WOKE UP pre anything getting resolved 🥲

So I've made a few Humanized!Bionicle posts and now that I've had a while to let it simmer, I think I've got an idea of how a Human-ish Bionicle AU would look, in my eyes, at least
Starting off, the composition for everyone is they are usually at least 60% organic to 40% mechanical, so stuff like they all have stuff like skin, hair, blood, teeth, fingernails, and vital organs, but their bones and inner framework is purely mechanical. If an arm breaks, it has to be repaired to prevent infection or further damage. If a limb is damaged to the point it can't be repaired, then that person will need to get a prosthetic. They need to eat food and drink water, but it's all used a energy to keep them going. They also still need to sleep
Matoran are the same size as averge heighted people, so they can be between 4 to 6 feet tall on average. Toa, on the other hand, can be 7 or 8 feet tall
On the topic of Toa, it is harder to tell who is actually a Toa in this AU because Toa are basically Magical Girls in this AU: they use Toa stones to transform and armor themselves. The Toa stones can be hidden as pieces of jewelry or even as things like tattoos, but are relatively easy to carry around, which is a good thing because they are a NECESSITY for Toa to live their day-to-day lives; if a Toa is too far from his or her Toa Stone(i.e. a distance of 3 or 5 meters max) they will be significantly weakened before ultimately collapsing as they are dead
The reason they "die" when they're too far away from their Toa Stone is not because their soul is in the stone. Instead, all of their energy is tied to the stone itself, and the further away they are from it, the weaker they will become. Toa Stones are indestructible, but the Toa themselves can still be injured and killed in battle
The city of Metru Nui is more or less either a domed off area where all the Matoran live or is still in the GSR, except everyone is more humanoid than mechanical. In my head, it's the former, but it can be the latter
Masks in this AU look more like facial markings or either face masks that cover your mouth and nose or really masquerade masks that cover the upper half of your face, a quarter of the upper half of your face, or an entire side of your face. Facial markings are seen as a sign of having abundant resources or knowledge, but is not frowned upon. Masks can be customized, but it's highly advised that carving into a mask should be avoided as it can lead to a person becoming weak
Some masks can appear as helmets, but the most common case is with the Toa, who have helmet-masks to hide their identities. Their voices become modulated in these masks for the same reason
Phones don't exist in this AU, so long distance communication comes in the form of notes and letters
The lore stays the same for the most part. The most that changes is the fact that the Toa Metru have normal lives outside of their Toa-ing. Toa in the past have revealed their identities to the Matoran, and it went fine. They just wound up dead thanks to the Makuta Teridax
The Makuta themselves are still vapor and need a vessel tonget around. In physical vessels, no matter how close they get, there's ALWAYS an uncanny valley feeling look to them, like looking at them triggers a sort of, "There's something wrong," feeling and it's clear that what they're looking at is a threat even if they don't know why(yet)
Turaga come to be similarly in the canon lore. The only difference is that their own Toa stone draws from THEM, as in when a new Toa Stone is "activated," the power in the original is depleted to the point it needs to draw strength from its Toa, which means said Toa will lose their strength and have their power depleted in turn. There's a minimal amount of energy left in the original stone afterward, but not enough for a transformation. The Toa are also weakened, their body diminishing, their hair going gray, and their strength decreasing VERY significantly
There aren't cars, not really, but there are places like stores, arcades, and more modern stuff like that. Still a barter system too; if you want a tool of some kind, you either need to trade it with another tool or some other good

In regards to the people that referred to JoJo or HxH as examples: I think the reason these fights work so well is the fact that, very often, they aren't really fights. They are puzzles!
When it comes to Shounen Power Systems there are, very generally, two types: There is the "One size fits all" system, in which all powers and abilities are based on the same magic/ki/soul/strength/etc... So it usually comes down to who is stronger. Thats you classic Dragon Ball Z nonsense, whoever yells the loudest/invokes the power of friendship & anime the most, will win.
The other system is what I like to call "Apples and Oranges". There might be some underlying connecting lore, but in practice, all powers are fundamentally different in a way that can't directly be compared. Obvious examples are the Stands from JoJo, but also things like the Devil Fruits from One Piece. In these settings, it is often not possible to "just" overpower your enemy, you also need to find their limits or weak-spots. The fight starts turning into a puzzle while the protagonists and the reader are trying to figure out what the opponents power is and how it works. Luffy was always physically stronger than Crocodile, but he first needed to figure out how to counter Crocodiles Sand-powers by using water to actually stand a chance.
And thats why I personally dislike the later arcs of MHA. Quirks are a perfect "Apples and Oranges"-system. All of them are so fundamentally different and have so many different use cases, that the puzzles write themselves. And Izukus analysis hobby/talent is perfect to figure out weaknesses and limits. Imagine, for a second, Uraraka as an hitherto unknown antagonist. At first she would seem to have some sort of super-strength or telekinesis power that is extremely strong and dangerous. Then you could slowly figure out that it actually is a gravity power, followed by the 5-finger activation requirement and the nausea-backlash, which, finally, would give you options to defeat her. And thats just her!
Now, you can obviously have hybrid systems/settings, One Piece is actually a good example here, some fights are puzzles, some are regular yell louder until you win with the power of friendship. It gives the series a nice balance, there is something for everyone, different characters can shine in different ways.
But it feels to me as if MHA slipped fully into "MOAR POWERRR!!!" in it's later arcs. We just crank up the power level of the antagonist and the protagonist and call it a day, no need for clever strategies and puzzles. Overhaul, Re-Destro and obviously Shigaraki have just extremely powerful Quirks with little to no weakness and generally are fought/taken out by a Friendship powered attack of the "I can't lose here!" variety. And that just feels like a waste of an amazing system to me.
This is one of the many reasons I hate All For One. Because he could have multiple Quirks to work through like this but instead he goes, "ah fuck learning Quirks, here are five strength boosters and a wind cannon. I have no other attacks. Fuck you."

🐝🐝 It's been a while since I made this blog and I haven't actually written anything, even tho that's its purpose.
So instead of doing research on stuff for my Hazbin Hotel OC, let's start building a story.
First is the magic system:
Seeing as I am a bee an animal lover, let's have it revolve around that.
I've had the idea of an mha oc who can manipulate their dna, which they mostly use to copy animalistic traits, so let's take that and give it a name - Mimics.
Mimics are people who are capable of replacing parts of themselves with a human-sized version of a body part from a specific animal. If you don't have that body-part you still have to get rid of something.
An example could be... Let's say there's a mantis-shrimp mimic. Now obviously no bee no human owns a claw, so to have its "ballers" you need to still get rid of something, like a leg. This is great for combat if you're going for a kick: the added momentum of your leg + the release of the "latch muscle" + the now human size of it, even without cavitation it'd still be incredibly strong. Not sure how strong but I'm guessing "bone-breaking" strong. (Not to mention you could use it to jump really high.)
Next let's give an alternative, like another school of magic.
What if you could control the animals instead. They can be called - Tamers.
Tamers are people who can very clearly control animals. But like mimics, it's a specific animal. But they still need something that can make them useful...
Humans...
Humans are animals too, so what if we had a Human tamer as an antagonist.
Obviously Mimics are seen as stronger, so they might be people who are praise, while the Tamers are more often than not shunned, they main uses are being farmers and pest/animal control.
More on that another time.
I think it'd be less mind-control and more... persuasion. You're capable of speaking to that species, and yes you are naturally more persuasive, but you need to practice to get better. Maybe at some point you could be able to influence their thoughts and commonsense, make them think it's their own thoughts when really you're responsible for that. idk.
______
Now let's figure out how people get these powers.
As I've (hopefully) stated before, not everyone is a Mimic/Tamer. So it'd be a good idea to think of how people can become one.
Obviously there has to be a reason as to why not everyone is one.
Maybe it's like X-men and only some people are mutants... no
Maybe it's only neurodivergent people... I'll save that for another time, maybe.
You know how the greek gods have symbols?
And what about clerics? Their power is bestowed upon them by the divine.
What if it's like that? Somehow interacting with the symbol of the animal gives you either Mimicry or Tamer-ry. Like bathing in honey like it's the river styx. not sure if you'd survive, but you'd def need a bath after.
And it'd make sense how the antagonist is the only human tamer ever, coz no one knows what the symbol of humans are.
hmmmm, but then I'd have to come up with the symbol of so many things.
Bees could be honey sure.
Spiders might be webs
But what about bats?
Wolves?
Prey Mantis'?
Frogs?
Flies?
Too much work.
Maybe it works like chosen ones.
A god of Bees chooses... John Doe to represent the species, and by doing so, their descendants carry that power.
This could mean something about the society as well, being far more religious focused.
Maybe it used to be considered wrong for two chosen people to wed if they were not chosen by the same species?
Or perhaps if the descendant was born a Tamer, they couldn't be heir, and were used as a political puppet.
Ah yes, the two genders: Mimics and Tamers.
And what would happen when two different chosen ones wed? Would their children have one or both animals? maybe it'd make a hybrid?
And the chosen can be put in positions of higher power, like priests or nobles or kings.
A society built on power from the gods.
_________
Okay quick summary of what we've gotten done so far:
Mimics can copy the abilities of animals
Tamers can control animals
Both are chosen by gods of the animals.

Slaps the roof of this au This bad boy can hold so much Scarian hurt/comfort. Buckle in lads So this idea is around a world/hardcore that you can't respawn in. So Grian and Scar are out and about adventuring and resource gathering when something happens and knocks Scar off a cliff. Now Grian is a powerful magic user, watcher, what have you. And is very much in love with Scar, if they are together now or later is up to you guys. But now he's watching Scar plummet to his death And in the heat of the moment, he uses his magic. Just to help Scar, give him some wings, something, anything so he doesn't die! But it backfires, even tho Grian is avian he wouldn't have been able to reach Scar in time without getting hurt or hurting them both badly
So he floats down and finds Scar who is injured but very much alive. But now he's... different. What he turns into is up to is up to yall, vex, avian, dragon, whatever. Grian puts his hand over his mouth as he gasp seeing what happen to Scar. They lock eyes and Scar ask what he's done. And Grian apologies profusely While Scar didn't want to die, and watching as Grian got further from him as he fell. He begged for something anything to happen and save him. He didn't want to leave Grian this way, he didn't want to leave Grian at all. But he wasn't expecting this, his body feels different and new. Things aren't the same, sure he asked for something to happen but now? Its weird for the moment at least His features have changed and maybe his size (I always go for bigger cause why not waggles eyebrows) so these changes scare him. But in a way that he's scared that his new strength and features could hurt those he loves. Could hurt Grian, which this is something they talk about later. Grian assuring him he won't, he's still Scar it'll be okay
Grian promises to not leave his side and help him through this all (3l call back aw yah). Once safe he helps take care of Scar's wounds, worried how quiet he is. He promises to do what he can to get him back to normal. If he's successful, another up to you. But Scar is fretting because of the changes and hurting Grian It takes some time to get use to this but Scar does and least he gets to spend it with Grian. And Grian is around WAY more, practically moving in with him to care for him so he can't complain Even if accidents do happen and someone gets hurt, they quickly work through it. Since Grian isn't about to let Scar spiral when it was his fault after all. Bonus would be they finally confess as Grian's taking care of him and get together that way If in Hermitcraft it would take the Hermits practically no time to get use to Scar being different since so many are hybrids. Instead they all get together and help out Scar. Giving advice, making food, stopping in often to see him Though the last might get on his nerves after awhile since he wants to have Grian to himself a bit more. And he's settled in rather well For the polyshippers (like me) this could even be a Mumscarian or even Cubscarian idea too I really REALLY wish I could write better cause man this idea has me buzzing 🌿
SCAR ASA DRAGON SCAR AS A DRAGON HYBRID NOW It would explain how he is bigger too, and feels weird. hhgngng The angst potential of Scar just- blocking everyone out for a bit because he is afraid of the new things he feels, being part dragon now I LOOOOVE this idea too, sm sm From your ideas you send me, dude you are so good at writing!!! I bet you could make this into a really awesome fic :D

TELL ME ABOUT YOUR OC. INFO I NEED RIGHT THIS INSTANT
1. Full name, age, gender, height, etc. Just bio info really.
2. What kind of world do they live in?
3. Are they good or evil? Protag? Side character? Villain? Hero?
4. Magic powers of any kind? Skills they have?
5. Favorite fact about them
6. Character arc?
7. Any other info you desperately want to tell someone
WOOOO YEAH OKAY
Putting this under a cut cause this is Loooooong
THIS ISNT PROOFREAD AT ALL HAVE FUNNNNNNNNNNNNN
Also tagging @meme-boys-blog cause he’s heard me brainrot about her :p
1. Okay so that’s a bit complicated cause she uses three of em, depending on form. If she’s a human person, that’s Kuze, if shes humanoid, that’s Kuma, and if shes Shadow Creature, that’s Kurokami. It’s all the same person, just presenting as different aspects, you know?
Also she frequently uses bynames so watch out :p
Beat answer for age is Yes. She’s older than literally everyone and anything due to being a creature that is made out of the stuff that exists between realities.
Her gender is whatever you want it to be, but she generally prefers she/they. But she can manifest as any gendered human person as Kuze. The only exception is pronouns of it/it’s, mostly because of some Hollow Knight Stuff.
Also!!! Kuze fun facts: there’s some Rules that Kuze has to follow when manifested, it’s not a lot, but it’s just enough to tip off observant persons that they’re not exactly the Most Human. For example: all forms have to follow the basic template of white hair, pale skin, black eyes, black clothes. Of course, the black can be any dark shade of gray, so there’s some variation in the outfits. Eyes do not reflect light, skin doesn’t get cut like flesh and instead cracks like porcelain, bleeds Void, body temp is always room temp, etc.
Here’s a drawing I did of each one, from right to left, it’s Kuze, Kuma, and Kurokami
Tumblr media
2. Yes? Yes. She’s kinda my proxy into fandoms. An op SI oc. But she has her own personality sorta??? It’s A Lot.
3. Lawful neutral. She has her own personal values and sticks to them like glue, but overall she enjoys the concepts of freedom. She has the potential to be the scariest thing ever with eldritch horror shenanigans, or the wine aunt with weird eyes. She tends to make the worst kind of friends (See: Michael Distortion from TMA) because of her loose morals.
She’s not really on the side of destroying worlds, instead going for the cosmic horror angle of “not yet”. And even then, the Void doesn’t really need her direction.
She also travels to diff universes cause she likes the connection, and also she fears becoming a true monster. I mean, wouldn’t everyone?
4. She’s basically the God of Shadow in all its forms, but she doesn’t control it directly. All forms can stop time with ease due to a visit to jojo and stealing DIO’s stand for herself, Names have Power and she can stop it for an infinite duration. Also she can invoke someone’s true name to tell them what to do, this can manifest in different forms, but she tries to make it subtle :p. All forms are also skilled in every instrument type because music is kinda a huge deal for her, and also can create constructs that fall under the same restrictions as Kuze’s form. They can be pretty much anything. But she usually abuses it to make musical instruments on the fly. Almost forgot about the child in the room, during certain plot parts of Transformers Prime season 3, she made a trade with Rafael to repaint Bumblebee in exchange for his knowledge of computers. And given that this kid can hack The Pentagon… yeah.
Kurokami has the power to change her size to be as large as she wants, but the low end is 7 feet, plus horns. Power to dwell/hide in things/peoples shadows, only consequence being that the shadow itself is darker than normal.
ALSO!!! Soul shit, it’s a lot, but it’s a called direct interfacing. She dislikes the process cause it’s Very Invasive (think of it like forcibly issuing commands to someone)
Also also dream shit, she has a major influence over it cause when Radiance died, they left a power vacuum.
Kuze and Kuma have the previously stated abilities, as well as being overall weaker than Kurokami. The time it takes to get from either of these back to Kurokami is quite literally nothing, as the form can either melt or straight up explode, but going from Kurokami to Kuze/Kuma takes longer, even longer if it’s Kuze.
5. When as Kurokami, there’s some Special Voice Quirks!!! She can speak as any person that she has met or knows the Name of, and usually speaks with more than one voice. Her default is usually some kind of femme fatale, but they could also be a confident businesswoman type beat. Also, she speaks in plurals, using we/us/our instead of I/me/my. I just think it’s neat!!!
Also whenever she arrives in a new place that she’s gonna Chill in, she makes a card that automatically charges a random bank account that’s on an internal list. She mostly picks billionaires. She also can eat but she doesn’t need to but food is good.
Coffee addiction. Lots of coffee.
6. Okay so it’s a bit hard to pinpoint her timeline, but I’m gonna try my best.
- In the Before times, before Kurokami was Kurokami, she was something else, think of it like a Guardian Angel on crack and also omni-dimensional.
- She basically was that before she started looking after the cast for Persona 5, 4, and 3 in that order. When she was done with Persona 3’s main plot, something… spoilery happened that made her have an epiphany and was basically the catalyst for her to begin her search
- the search being, of course, to become her own functioning person. She eventually found her way to HK universe post Dream No More, and traveled down to The Abyss to dunk herself in Void.
- the most recent adventures were, in this order:
- TMA, where she made friends with Michael distortion and also became a menace to Elias. She rearranged his books and moved his shit semi-weekly
- Octopath 2, where she had huuuuge beef with the final boss for kinda encroaching on her domain cause she’s petty. Also she asked the gods pretty please for her to say hi to their chosen and give ‘em a boost
- Persona 5 Royal, where she revisited the place and could do what she actually wanted with Joker and Co. also fucked with Kasumi a little because she wanted to know Her Deal early.
- SMT IV, kinda visited it while passing through, but ended up making friends with Hikaru, so there’s that. So now she’s here to play music and kick ass. Also probably provide moral support for Neutral route via fun music times
-Pokemon X/Y: Yeah this was meant as a bit of a one time thing but here we are. She’s here to hang out with Sycamore (who highkey thinks she’s a Zorarark but doesn’t leave her because science!!!! Breakthroughs in Zorarark behavior!!!) and also spend an entire day working on her new holo caster because SOMEBODY decided to listen in on them. Also she’s there for the main events of the plot and I’m trying to justify Sycamore having fully evolved Kanto starters.
-SMT IV: Apocalypse. She’s gonna go hang out with Hikaru and also hang out with a different traumatized kid. But this one has a knife and is a gremlin. Nanashi gives her wicked flashbacks to TMA and ends up alerting Dagda when she tries to figure out the kids deal. Either way, Nanashi has a new stalker and Dagda has a new nuisance.
7. I have some documents saved on my laptop that are literally just Shit I Wrote for discord friends but I can post em here if you want. They’re kinda mismatched and scattered, but they give the sense of “shit happening in the background.”

Innocence
As a Halloween treat I thought I'd post an old fanfiction I wrote years ago. I totally forgot about it until someone liked it on deviantart.
It's a silly little Danny phantom/Tak and the power of juju crossover one-shot. I really like it though!
"My hair isn't food you know." Danny muttered, though he wasn't particularly bothered by the rhino chewing on the split ends. It was better than being harassed by the villagers. Ever since he defeated Vlad and saved the moon Juju, the villagers wanted him to do everything. It'd gotten so bad that he had to resort to hiding out in Dryrock Canyon just to get some alone time. It even made him long for the time he was just Clockwork's errand boy and everyone ignored him...
"Danny," and nobody looked for him when he made it clear he wanted to be left alone. "Danny, I know you're here. Clockwork wants to see you!"
Danny groaned, "ugh. On my way, Dash!"
"Danny!"
"I said I'm..."
"DANNY!" This time Dash's yelling was accompanied by a annoyingly loud chittering sound: Nerbils. Danny cursed under his breath and stood up from his hiding spot behind the summoning shrine. Dash was helpless against Nerbils, you'd think differently because of his size, but the little pests tend to attack in pacts of ten or more so...
Danny hoisted himself up the cliffs to the path of the sun temple. Dash was one cliff higher, with the dead magic Nubu plant. A swarm of at least seven Nerbils had him pinned to the dusty ground. "DANNY!" Dash squealed again. (Yes, big macho man Dash Baxter squealed. Though he would definitely deny it if he were confronted.)
Danny rolled his eyes. Dash really was pathetic. Danny grabbed the spirit rattle from his holster and began raffling though the juju talismans in his leg pouch until he found the one he was looking for: Conversion. One of his personal favorites. Who wouldn't want to turn a Nerbil into a chicken?
"Damn it, Danny. Get this flesh eating monstrosities off of me!"
"That's funny," Danny deadpanned. "I didn't know chickens were flesh eaters."
"Wha...?" Dash opened his eye and saw that indeed he was no longer being bitten and scratched to death by little bat-like monsters. Instead he had a bunch of chickens scratching on his chest and one was attempting to nest in his hair. "Shoo, shoo, stupid birds."
Danny snickered," I don't want to hear a word about this Danny." Dash growled as he stood up.
"I wasn't gonna say anything." Danny snickered again, a little louder this time.
"And no laughing either."
"Sorry, can't promise you that." Danny began laughing in earnest.
"Damn it Fenton, it's not funny!"
"It's always funny when you're involved, Dash."
Dash scoffed. "Yeah right, whatevAH! Nubu plant!"
Danny looked and sure enough, there was a Nubu plant, freshly sprouted. Although, something was...off. The plant wasn't hissing or snapping at them as the plant species was known to do whenever there was prey around. In fact it was quivering, as if it were afraid. It was also the smallest Nubu plant Danny had ever seen, even for a sprout. Usually, freshly sprouted Nubu plants were tall enough to reach his knee, adolescent Nubu plants were about waist height, and fully grown magical Nubu plants were exactly the same height as he was. This one though, it barely reached the midpoint of his calf.
"What are you Doing Fenton?"
"Shut up Dash."
Danny inspected the plant a bit closer. The nubu plants quivering was more noticeable now that he had gotten a better look and he could finally see why. It had no teeth! And out here in Dryrock Cayon, where there was no grass or weeds to camouflage the little thing, having no teeth was a death sentence.
"Seriously Danny, what are you doing?" Dash asked again, his voice wavering a little bit, but at least he wasn't freaking out anymore.
"I'm taking it back to amity with me."
"What?! You can't be serious Danny. You know how dangerous those things are."
"They're only dangerous from adolescence to adulthood." Danny replied sharply. "Sprouts like this one are just a nuisance." Danny would know, since he'd been bitten by them more times than he could count. The bites didn't even hurt that much. It just felt like walking through a field of thistles.
"Danny..."
"It'll be fine Dash. Look, it doesn't even have any teeth."
"If it doesn't have any teeth then why are you taking it?"
"I'm taking it because it doesn't have teeth." Danny snapped, "without teeth, it won't be able to catch prey or protect itself from predators."
"I don't think Clockwork will approve of you keeping that thing."
"Says you, Clockwork won't care." Danny had an idea. "In fact, I think he'll be happy to have a reliable source of Nubu flowers around."
"Huh?"
"I'm pretty sure if I take care of this little guy now, he'll be a little more docile when he reaches adulthood."
Dash was confused, "Which means?..."
"Which means when Clockwork needs a Nubu flower for a spell, he'll have a domesticated Nubu plant within reach and I won't have to hunt down a bunch of them just for a few flowers." Adult Nubu plants were rare enough now-a-days from people trying their best to kill the sprouts whenever they bloom. And whenever Clockwork needed one of the flowers Danny had to travel miles to find a feral one to kill and once they died they would no longer produce flowers. Which was why it was better to get the flower while it was still alive. The flowers grew back then.
"Yeah, sure. Just grab the stupid plant and let's get out of here. I hate Dryrock Canyon."
Danny nodded only half listening to Dash's complaining, while he focused on digging out the plant without tools and without severing its roots (Nubu plants could feel pain unlike other plant species). "So what d'ya say, little guy," Danny said to the no longer quivering plant. Do you want to come home with me?"
The plant purred.

Why do skills exist in the Lost Cities? Especially since they’re never used. It adds so many plot holes.
Excellent question! I can only theorize, but I think it's because they're cool and sometimes slipping them in can help solve little plot things.
Skills serve as a simple way to make the elven world more magical and exciting! They're the little things that we tend to associate with fantasy and that readers enjoy that lots of stories like to have, but in the context of keeper they're not grand enough to turn them into abilities. Seeing in the dark? Moving things with your mind? That's not on the same level of controlling fire or reading minds. So instead they're like little bonuses so we still get to have them in the story.
(I'll put the rest under a cut to save space)
Of course Shannon, like almost any author would, added her own little quirks like appetite suppression and breath control, which separates the elves skills from the abilities of other stories. Those aren't things we usually associate with fantasy, but they give the story a sense of otherness in the same way. Like look at these cool people! they can do all these fun things unlike humans! Sophie can regulate her body temperature and walk on a mountain without being cold? I wish I could do that. They're more for the magic and less for the story, I think.
They do, however, also impact the story and sometimes contribute to things. Outward channeling brought Lumenaria crashing down and killed people, normal channeling is used for boosts of strength from time to time, levitation helps Sophie teleport, etc. That's what I mean by the little plot things, though Lumenaria wasn't little. In the context of the story it was one event that we never really went back to, so it's the exception. The others are more what I mean though. They're convenient to use from time to time to get the characters from one part of the plot to the next. Extra things that solve things that would otherwise be problems. Like Sophie running with Keefe and teleporting. It's highly unlikely she, at her size and physical capabilities, would be able to flat out sprint fast enough to teleport while holding Keefe in her arms. But add a little bit of channeling? Not a problem anymore and you don't have to deal with that technical detail.
But you are 100% correct it does add a lot of plot holes and makes reasoning things so much more difficult sometimes. They're used for the little things, but that makes us ask why they don't use them for bigger things either? If everyone is capable of so much than what are their actual limitations? Why has no one ever mentioned outward channeling since Lumenaria? It was traumatizing, but that doesn't mean the skill is gone. I'm sure we could all find instances where some of the problems the kotlcrew faced could've been aided by a skill they didn't use.
The reasoning that elves don't value skills and as such don't use them only goes so far, as we've already seen that Sophie and her friends don't follow what the rest of the elven world thinks, hence her learning them and practicing them more. Perhaps after her training in the healing center we'll see more skills from Sophie, but that also creates a lot of powers for her to draw on. All five of her powers plus all the skills? It's overwhelming.
So I think they're mostly just for fun to add more cool ability-like things to the elven world, which has a consequence of creating some plot holes!! I know that there have been several times when I've been writing the wings au where I've gone "if they used this skill this would be a lot easier but I need them to figure out this different thing, so now I have to figure out a reason for them to not use their skills" which is a hassle.
hopefully that helps answer your question!

And now for some thoughts about Mahjarrat, specifically about gender.
(Gonna try to be careful with gender terms and stuff here but Mahjarrat can change their gender so whatever form of genitals they have usually indicates their preferred pronouns. That’s what I’m going to be referring to when I say male or female. I understand for humans it’s a little bit more complicated so I’m going to try to do this in a way that doesn’t upset or exclude anyone. Also this does touch on some stuff about pregnancy and does have to have a few sentences on the cause of pregnancy but it should be pretty clean.)
I’ve finally come up with a reason for female Mahjarrat having breasts: they don’t. They have absolutely no need for them, as they don’t breastfeed their children, it is simply something they opted to add to their appearance after their arrival on Gielinor, when humans and other species more used to different-looking genders started using the wrong pronouns for them.
Without this slight shapeshifting alteration/some things shoved down the front of their robes, male and female Mahjarrat look almost identical. In fact, if you remove everything but the underpants (which, tbh, a lot of them don’t really wear), then there is no difference except for features like skin tone, size, fitness, and other things that also alter between humans. And the things that don’t alter between humans but do between Mahjarrat, like chin-spikes, horns, and ridges. Those vary quite a bit between individuals.
Since Jagex has been a bit lazy and has used a recoloured version of the same model for all female Mahjarrat, it looks like the chin-spikes are an exclusively male feature, but they are not. Unlike the mimicry of breasts, that is not a mimicry of a beard. It just happens to be that the female Mahjarrat model doesn’t have them and (I think but I can’t be bothered to check) all the males do. They really don’t have any differences except the genitals, which I might discuss in another post since not everyone wants to read that.
The basics are that all Mahjarrat are capable of both impregnating a partner and getting pregnant themselves (I would have loved to have a whole thing where there’s only one gender or way more than just male and female, but I remember seeing a jmod saying that it was just the two so I’m stuck with that). We also know from the existence of Moia that Mahjarrat are, um, ‘compatible’ with humans. Keeping in mind what was previously said, a human with a uterus may have to be careful of pregnancy when in a relationship with any gender of Mahjarrat. A human with a penis, however, won’t actually be able to achieve an offspring out of a relationship with a Mahjarrat, no matter how it goes.
Now, a Mahjarrat pregnancy is not like that of a human or really anything else on Gielinor. It isn’t the “baby grows in tummy” thing or the “lay egg and sit on it for ages” thing, more of a “weird magical energy thing gets stronger and stronger and then it turns into a child”. It’s like a mammalian pregnancy in the way that the foetus is connected to the parent and is growing stronger with nourishment the parent provides, except there is no physical aspect (the only way to tell is that on another Mahjarrat’s kin awareness thing it appears that there are two Mahjarrat instead of just the one that they can see. The foetus is small and a lot less powerful, just a little blip that usually appears closely resemblant to the parent rather than a whole other Mahjarrat standing next to them. It’s very subtle, especially in the earlier stages, and is only really noticeable when it is specifically looked for.), and since Mahjarrat don’t eat, the nourishment provided is in the form of magical energy and can be given to or taken from the foetus by the parent at will. Although if the parent takes too much, the pregnancy will be terminated.
If the parent has a partner, whether they be the biological other parent of the offspring or not, they will usually donate some of their energy to the birthing parent to help them stay strong. Both of these parents will usually raise the child together. The Freneskraen words that are most similar to mother and father literally mean “parent who actually gave birth to the child” and “parent who didn’t give birth but helped create the child”, although quite often they are just the one who raises the child and the actual “father” is someone else the “mother” was with at the ritual of enervation. There is no aspect of gender at all.
And speaking of not having a gender, when the child is born after about a year (although it can be delayed indefinitely) when the little bit of magical energy finally grows strong enough to develop a physical form, the child has no gender. The “pup” as they are known (since some other people were using that word and I thought it was good) (well in Freneskraen they aren’t called pups but the word starts with a vague p sound and that’s what it ended up translating to in common tongue) will not have any genitals until they reach adulthood, a process that is not at all talked about and is usually quite a shock (perhaps you have a grandmother or another older relative who’s told you about when they first got their period and had no idea what was happening? Yeah it’s like that).
The pup stage lasts until the Mahjarrat can walk, communicate successfully, and have developed their claws and teeth fully. The amount of time this takes varies between individuals, usually depending on their power. The pups that develop fastest are usually destined to be great warriors and high-ranking in the tribe. After that the children grow bigger and stronger as they learn to fight and how to behave properly. And then when they have reached their full height and have developed genitals and are considered strong enough, they are considered full adults.
And now, the answer to the question I know has been circling through your minds for far too long: If that’s how Mahjarrat are born, why does Zamorak have a belly button? And again, the answer is that he doesn’t. He just thinks it looks fashionable or cool or something.

Tumblr media
He goddamn is not.
You know that! You drew this!
Or did two men with a slightly different haircut really blow minds in 1965? Plus this certainly is the same universe where no one recognizes the biggest celebrity in the world as soon as he puts on glasses.
Superman 181 has another feature besides this boring "Superman is Allergic to the Pacific Ocean Now" story.
It is better that that. In that, it is still bad, but actual things happen.
Just be warned that it centers on two of the very worst features of every Silver Age Superman comic: some woman altering time and space merely to try and date Superman (it isn't Lois this time, for once). And stupid Superman clone robot shit.
Morna Vine, the niece of one of the Daily Planet's major shareholders, nepo's her way into a job in the newsroom. Lois, Jimmy Olsen and Clark are immediately afraid of the new competition. Which is weird, because you will note this is the same newsroom where Lois, Jimmy Olsen, and Clark stand around all day as Lois and Jimmy make fun of Clark for CLEARLY not being cool like Superman, until Perry yells at them to get out there and do a report on the latest space-monster trying to eat the city.
But I guess in this story they are all locked in perpetual mortal kombat over who gets the best scoops. Which, immediately, is Morna Vine. And man, do the others get real catty about it. This might be the bitchiest Superman story ever.
Tumblr media
See? Even the narration is doing it.
After Lois herself gets scooped by Morna on some story about a guy storing an antigravity ray in a lead vault, she agrees with Jimmy that Morna must have Superman powers that make her slightly better than them at reporting.
High stakes, here.
...How is a new ray even a "scoop" for the Planet at this point? Superman invents and forgets a new one every second issue.
Let Morna have this partucular ray gun, Lois. You can report on the next six of them.
Lois tries to trick Morna into admitting she has superpowers. It involves blackface and kryptonite. Because of course it fucking does.
Tumblr media
It goes without saying that this plan fails.
But because both Lois and Jimmy refuse to believe a normal woman could dare top them at noticing stuff happening, Clark is also soon convinced she must be magic. And being Superman, he can actually prove it.
By abandoning Morna on an iceberg in the Arctic.
Tumblr media
...Also Clark Kent can fly helicopters now? When the hell did that become part of his secret identity?
At any rate, Clark's plan "works," in that Morna doesn't freeze to death, and also scoops him on the story he dumped her in the ice to go report on (some guy built an artificial sun that makes it possible for white people to develop a Caribbean resort at the North Pole. It absolutely does not matter). Morna could clearly have only beat Clark to it via "telescopic vision," that power only Superman has, where he can just see anything, anywhere.
Only Superman, and his godforsaken robot clones, of course.
That he stores in a closet in Clark Kent's apartment now.
Tumblr media
"Kent? This is your landlord. A question, if I may. Are the four full-sized talking dolls of Superman in your bedroom, that refer to you as 'Master,' a work thing, or...?"
No, his landlord doesn't find them. That's just me, writing a better Superman story than this mess.
After interrogating his clone robots during working hours and getting nothing but maybe fun out of it, Clark doesn't have time to abandon Morna in any other dangerous locations. Instead he and her are sent to cover a story about stolen Nazi paintings the local museum has in a vault (?!).
This is the second exciting news story the Planet has run in so-many-weeks about something locked in a vault. Is it always like this? How is Clark never scooping everyone in this lunatic town?
Clark guesses, correctly, shockingly, that Morna will somehow break into the museum after hours to use her Superman powers to scoop him again. So he himself breaks in and hides, to spy on her.
When she attempts to do her thing, the vault latch explodes, because Nazis.
Tumblr media
Which I guess no one bothered to consider when they were bringing it into the museum.
Superman rescues Morna and takes her to the hospital for treatment of her injuries. And here, FINALLY, he and Lois and Jimmy just ask the woman why she has superpowers.
A thing they could have easily done way before she was nearly killed by exploding Nazi paintings. But then I wouldn't have had to read all of this. And what was I going to do instead? Vacuum? Drink? Make love?
Not a chance, 1965 DC. We burn together, you and I.
The solution to this stunningly woven tale of mystery and intrigue is that this one time, Morna was scubadiving near where one of Superman's robots got smashed by ocean robots (yes). She stole its head before Superman himself could get there and retrieve it.
Tumblr media
If any young children were indeed reading this in 1965, I'm sure this panel made bedtime extra fun for the whole family the next couple of weeks.
Her dad, another random super-scientist who lives in this delightful world, took a break from building the next new shrink-ray to salvage all the parts from the head that Superman put in there to replicate his powers. Then he somehow engineered them into jewelry for Morna to wear, so that she could use those powers herself.
Tumblr media
Which she only did so she could become the best reporter in Metropolis. ...So she could get close to Superman. ...So he could fall in love with her.
Because Superman has to be in love with whatever girl reporter is the best at the Daily Planet? They don't explain this otherwise.
Having finally sorted...whatever this was, out, Superman scolds Morna for being selfish, takes her gadget jewelry, and leaves her sobbing in a hospital.
Then he goes off to play around with his robots of himself some more.
Tumblr media
Honestly the only mystery here is how someone like Lex Luthor didn't get his hands on this tech before Kal-El applied the most rudimentary security protocols.
This is indeed the end. Morna isn't shown getting arrested or sentenced to therapy. This is a woman who has the means and drive to run a long-con based on a romantic obsession, and it led her to arm herself with literal weapons that nearly blew up a museum with herself inside it.
But she's sad now, and lost all her jewelry, so that solves her womanly problems in 1965, I guess!
...Then again, maybe Superman is kind of into it. He does spend a whole page fantasizing about her in sideboob-revealing spandex.

Dear Father [Genshin Impact/Diluc x Reader]
Tumblr media
Synopsis: Wherever you are wherever you may be, even if you are beyond my reach, I only wish to see you again. -from a letter lost in the wind.
(A story where you and Diluc somehow managed to meet Crepus)
Genre: all fluff
"I know how late I am to father's day but here's my father's day take on Genshin Impact! Just let Diluc be happy for once T_T Mihoyo pls."
============================
Discovering Master Crepus' old belongings was like wandering in a domain surrounded by ancient artifacts. Each piece holding the memory of someone you've never met.
The paintings. Master Crepus loved to paint. Typically birds were the main muse of this portraits since they deeply embodied Mondstadt's values for freedom which shows you how much he cherished this city just like his son did. In almost every hallway you walked through there was a collection of his paintings, some belonged to another artist but the majority was an original work. Diluc didn't have the heart to sell them.
Elzer. He was one of the oldest workers who served under the Ragnvindr name, ever since Master Crepus had appointed him during his earlier days. You were told that he treated everyone, both staff and noble, with equal respect. Almost all the denizens of Mondstadt knew this man for he was not only noble in riches but also in the soul.
"I'm sure he would have loved to meet you in person. Now that I think about it, you and Master Crepus are quite similar. Haha, it seems that Master Diluc was selective in terms of who he wanted for his future bride."
Elzer adds with a light chuckle but the statement only made you more curious. A man who affected the lives of so many others, he must have been a wonderful person.
Diluc. The bloodline Master Crepus left behind after his death, a piece of himself and the heir to the whole wine industry, his son Diluc. Although you could see the resemblance in appearance, both of them were men of prinicples and values, putting Mondstadt first before anything else and you suddenly realized if that was the reason why Diluc was so protective of this city. As if, it were everything he had? You could tell he loved Master Crepus very much, not because he said so, rather the painful expression buried deep within his crimson glare whenever someone brought up the topic. Diluc was skilled in hiding himself, it's something he practiced over the years of working alone, though he lowered his guard as long as you were the only one present.
Even so, he had many conflicts still wringing him internally and you didn't want to push him until the day he felt ready to personally tell you himself.
But it would be nice if he opened up, just a little bit.
There were times when you would worry since Diluc had the tendency to hide his feelings for the sake of not troubling you. He wanted to keep life simple and bright, bringing the best to the table while making sure that you lived safely out of harm's way. You couldn't seem to get him to understand that as lovers, you would be happy to help him, in anything. Unconditionally. It was natural for you to feel the need to force yourself in every once in a while and there was nothing more you wanted to know than the story of the man who raised him.
You would even jest on the idea of what it fel like to meet Master Crepus in person. Were you able to reach his standards by any chance? Would he have liked you just as everyone claimed? Of course, they were only silly indulgent thoughts so you quickly dismissed them in the end. Bringing back the past was impossible no matter how badly you wanted it. You closed your heart on that possibility.
On a lovely evening, while you and Diluc were taking your time off Angel's Share to make a stroll around Mondstadt's quiet streets, a strange merchant called over to you. She displayed various antiques ranging from different sizes to designs, none of them seemed to haven been carved in the same place but distinct cultures throughout Teyvat. The only thing they had in common was that they were all equally beautiful to the eye.
However a particular item of what looks like to be a heart locket snatches your attention and you instantly became mesmerized, allured by it's mysterious charm.
"Ah, the locked heart caught your fancy, my lady? It's said once you open it, you will be set free."
"It's magnificent..." you muttered, staring unabashed at the shining surface.
Diluc who was observing from behind folded his arms and tilts his head, "How much is that?"
Although you intended to simply inspect the choices, your lover immediately offers to pay. They all already gave the impression of a hefty price and you didn't want him to spend his fortune on things that deemed unecessary. Still, this wasn't the first time it happened. Diluc would always insist whenever you protested against him from buying anything, it was just a way of expressing his affections towards you. Mora was never a problem and you were priceless. That's how he sees things. You had to remind yourself to be careful when stumbling upon a bustling area full of salesmen next time.
"Five hundred thousand mora."
He purchased it without hesitation.
On your way home, Diluc noticed that something was amiss. You couldn't tear your gaze from the locket as if it had hypnotized you by the golden smooth surface. He had to ensure you didn't run into anyone by accident, tugging your arm closer so that it gave him an opportunity to lead you where you yourself could not. Surely it must have been the appearance but instead of being drawn by, you were drawn in. Completely.
I wonder...what will happen if I open it?
"(Y/n)?" Diluc narrows his eyebrows together. Did you like it that much? No, he knew you weren't the type to be so etranced by jewelry, this was certainly different. Even the merchant seemed a little suspicious when she approached you and Diluc couldn't ignore the heavy sense of aminosity that was emitted around her aura. He couldn't think within her presence but now that his mind was much clearer, he was able to use his skillful judgements.
"Wait...! Don't open it yet-"
However, he was too late.
The wind picks up at an alarming speed and you both brought up your arms to block the debris that had flown in the way. They swirled in non-stop motion until your worlds were engulfed with not even the sky in sight. Amidst the turmoil Diluc latchest onto you and holds your body close his chest as he was determined to protect against any force that dared to hurt you. Something heavy knocks his head and he winces, tighting his hold even further. Your voice could hardly be heard with all the noise that rung around and eventually you discovered the the world wasn't disappearing. You both were.
The last thought you had was the image of Master Crepus and you didn't know why.
---
"Diluc? Diluc?"
He faintly heard his name through a series of echoes. Diluc fights to regaind concousness, feeling your grip upon his shoulder while trying to urge him awake.
"Diluc are you alright?"
Your worried face was the first thing he sees other than the fog that looms above. Diluc blinks a few times in an attempt to ease his migraine, using one arm to force his body into a seating position as he allowed himself to be supported by you at the same time.
"Does your head hurt?" You ask, palming gently against his forehead to feel the heat. Even if her was usually very warm, there was no unusual rise in tempurature, something must have hit him instead, "Here, maybe this will help."
Bringing out your hand you concentrated on generating the water through your fingertips. Having a hydro vision meant you were capable of healing magic which Diluc appreciated since he often came home late at night with injuries hidden behind his sleeves. But nothing came out and he became even more suspicious of the situation.
"Eh? What's going on?" You blurted out, patting down your clothes and your pockets, "My Vision, it's gone too!"
"Mine as well," Diluc flexes his fingers to test his own element, "It seems that our powers were sealed once we entered this domain."
"A domain that prevents you from using a Vision? That doesn't sound very comforting," you scratched your head, suddenly remembering the cause of your current problem, "The locket...it's all starting to make sense now. Ugh, I should have listened to you earlier, I'm sorry Diluc."
"No (Y/n), you don't have to apologize," he interjects and you returned a curious glance, "I should have stopped you the minute I discovered there was something strange. I was too careless."
"You felt that too? I thought I was the only one," your tone and face mimics one of surprise. The fog continues to dance around, enclosing the two of you to the small area. You lifted your head and looked above in deep contemplation, "When I saw the locket I couldn't tear my eyes off of it, like something was pulling me in. Like...there was a spell casted on it."
"What do you mean?" he asked in an inquisitive manner.
You nod, "I can't put my finger on it bit Ifel that the locket wanted me to..." balling your fist upon your lap, you stared intensely at the floor as if drilling holes into them while digging into the depths of your mind for any specific clues. Initially you thought the locket was so captivating that you were simply charmed by it's craftmanship. But tere was more than that, you began deciphering, there was also a need for fulfillment. A yearning desire, "to know. The locket was calling me to know."
'Once you open it, you will be set free.'
"To know..." you trailed off. How strange. No matter how much you tried to rationalize, you were always brought back to the same square as if the locket knew exactly what you wanted. What you were lacking. Because the one thing you wanted to know most about was the person you've never met, "Someone very important to you."
The fog dispersed.
Diluc instinctively puts an arm in front of you defensively as he scanned his quick and thorough eyes around the area. It didn't take long for him to know exactly where everything was. In fact, the abrupt change isn't what puts him on high alert, but it was how familiar everything looked to the point he evaluates if there was any reason to be skeptical or if he should be breathtaken.
"What a beautiful house," However you didn't recognize it. Diluc knew because he had yet to meet you during the time he lived in this estate, "I wonder who does it belong to?"
"Father's old mansion...how?" Diluc breatlessly mutters, as if seeing the supremecy of Celestia for the first time. When years passed after his father died, he chose to sell off the majority of his belongings, the mansion being on for example. Currently it was in the possession of a well-known business associate that used to be a friend of Crepus. The mansion would likely have looked much different due to the renovations it gone through but Diluc remembers the picture as if this were yesterday. Everything was in tact. The vine yard, the gazebo where they drank tea, the hill that he and Kaeya used to race on when they were kids-
Revelation burns in his pupils as his eyes expanded.
"Welcome home, my son."
Both you and Diluc fall wordless at the sight that appeared like a miracle's blessing. Crepus stands at a distance, the graceful smile complimenting his warm features. He looked exactly how the court artists portrayed him in the Ragnvindr's family picture. Sharp face with gentle eyes and an aura that was as pleasant as what Elzer described.
"So this is why the locket was calling to us," you whispered, "I guess the mora really was worth it after all."
"...Fa...ther...."
You snuck a glance at Diluc. From behind the resemblance was as clear as dawn, like you were staring at a carbon copy of Master Crepus himself. Almost. He was a less hardened version of Diluc during uncommon situations. It made you think just how much you didn't know before his father passed away. What kind of person was this man during his days as a knight? You never had the chance to know.
"Father is that really you?" Diluc couldn't help his voice from trembling, paralyzed in place when he could hardly make sense of what stands in front of him. The person he longed to hear from, the person who left the world too quick, Diluc was afraid to get his hopes up in case his father suddenly disappeared and everything was just an illusion conjured by his mind. He was already used to being betrayed and dealt with disappointment too often. Which is why he learned to trust only himself. But, right now, can he really trust himself?
Feeling your hand gently on his shoulders, Diluc was brought back to reality. You smiled with warm reassurance that bled into your voice, "It's okay Diluc. Go, I'm here for you."
There was the faintest light shining in his eyes as emotions swell in his chest. Ever since you came Diluc never had to feel alone anymore, truly, you were the light that was brought back into his eyes, to his life when he gave up the thought of seeing it again. If he couldn't trust himself then at the very least, he could trust you.
"Thank you," he embraces you wholly like you were everything, and you were, before letting go and taking off to the otherside.
The air hits him in a rush and knocks the ones out of his lungs, "Father!" Diluc yells with tearful eyes. For the first time in a long while he was finally letting his feelings run free, "Father!" A name that felt foreign upon words that is pushes him forward, wanting to claim the truth that was smiling from afar.
"Father!"
Crepus lifted his arms and openly catches Diluc when he crashed into him. Here. He was here. He certainly was.
"Haha its been a while hasn't it my son?" He begins, encasing Diluc in a hug like he did the day he turned eighteen. Crepus was a tall man and his genes seemed to have went through. Back when they were younger, Diluc managed to only reach the blade of his shoulders, just barely. Now they were practically the same height, "Look how much you've grown over the years. There were so many things I planned to say but I don't know where to start."
Seven years. That was how long Crepus spent alone with his thoughts. He saw what happened through that time span, the truth about the Knights and Kaeya's origins. To say that none of that bothered him would be a lie. Especially when his son was the most impacted throughout all the events.
"Father I...I-" Diluc tries to speak but the words dissolved the moment it reached his tongue. He wasn't the type to be very good at expressing emotions. None of it could simply be communicated by sentences. For him, actions spoke louder yet somehow, they still wouldn't be enough. Nothing can comprehend the weight of seven years.
Crepus seemed to have understood and fills in the gap instead, "I have also missed you and Kaeya. More than I can even say. It must have been so hard for you both to endure it all by yourselves. Life hits us when we least expect it but despite that, you still chose to persevere."
Diluc clenches his hold, face buried in his shoulders and mouth quivering as he barely answers, "Yeah."
"You're both my pride and joy no matter what happens, as a father I cannot be more proud," before knowing, everything that was said came out naturally from his spirit. Crepus may have his own set of things to share but he knew what Diluc needed the most, "So please don't stop relying on one another, don't always think that you have to do everything alone. Stength is a virtue. However, its okay to let go and allow new people to come into your life. I don't need to be avenged, as long as you and Kaeya are happy, its all I ask for."
As if the world had been lifted from his shoulders, Diluc allows himself to break just this once. On the outside, he was known to be an unstoppable force, the Mondstadt tycoon, the uncrowned king and a hero who serves at night. But here you saw only a boy who dearly missed his father as he hugs him tightly. Although you couldn't hear their conversation clearly, just watching them from where you stood was enough to make your eyes glisten from pure happiness.
"You finally chose to open your heart, right Diluc?" You quietly note to yourself, "You don't have to carry everything by yourself anymore, you're free."
'Once you open it, you will be set free.'
He was able to dwell in this one in a lifetime experience, all because you unlocked the heart and dispersed the fog inside.
They spent a good amount of minutes bringing the distance back together after being seperated for so many years. You made sure to make minimal movements in the consideration of their time. It was only temporary until Crepus noticed you standing in the distance and he gave you a quick glance. Your whole body tenses in response, suddenly feeling guilty as if you were a third wheel who didn't belong in the moment between two family members.
He's staring at me. Diluc's father is staring at me! Your thoughts panicked along with your thrumming heart. What should I do?!!
"I see you've brought someone along with you," He comments, the playfulness rising in his tone, "She seems to have been waiting for quite a while already. If you don't mind, may you do the honours of introducing her to me?"
Diluc turns to see you stiffened in place with your hands tightly clasped below your stomach and heat pooling from your ear to your cheeks as you dipped your head down. His father was a kind man and he couldn't understand there the discomfort came from, yet found it endearing nonetheless. Diluc walks over to you and extends his hand, silently urging you to come with him. You complied, albeit hesitantly at first.
"It'll be okay my love," he whispered softly, causing you to be taken aback by the nickname he called you by. Diluc often reserves them for special instances and this was one of them, "Whatever the staff told you about my father, they're the truth. Trust in their judgement. Trust in me."
"Diluc..." you say, voice fading. You knew him to be someone who always kept his word and someone who would never lie to you. Taking in a short breath, you nodded, "Alright, I will," and followed his lead.
There was once a time where you indulged in the idea of facing Master Crepus in person. But never did you prepare yourself for the amount of pressure it came with. Now that you were together with his son, there was a high chance that he would also become part of his family too, sooner or later. You weren't just meeting Master Crepus. You were also meeting your future father-in-law.
"Father, this is (Y/n)," Diluc starts the welcoming exchanges. You felt his hand squeeze yours gently. He turns to you so that you caught glimpse of his face, seeing the reverance in his gaze that was hinted among his handsome features, "She's the woman I fell in love with and I would do anything to make her happy. I cherish her more than anything else."
"D-Diluc!" you flushed, your embarassment as red as his own hair. But he wasn't bothered by it in the slightest.
"I only speak the truth."
Master Crepus lets out a content chuckle, drawing both of your attentions back to him, "He can be surprising poetic sometimes but I'm sure that he got it from me. Even my wife reacted the same way," he reminisced shortly before sighing, "In truth I already knew that you were together. Staying in the after life gave me the chances to watch things from an omniscient standpoint, I was sincerely worried how Diluc would handle things when I suddenly left, I hope you don't mind. If you do, I apologize for making you uncomfortable."
"N-Not at all!"
"Haha, you're very kind. Thank you. I'm glad that my son was able to find a woman like you to be his fated partner. As a parent, it brings me great reassurance," Crepus remarked, "I know he can be stubborn and a little too headstrong when it comes to making decisions. It really must be a handful for you to deal with at times but I promise you that he means well. So please continue to watch over him in my stead, take care of my son while I'm gone."
"You can count on me," you beamed, "I'll give it my all."
"You have my gratitude (Y/n)," Crepus replies and turned to Diluc, "And listen to her every once in a while. I may have been the previous owner of our wine industry but even I always make sure to get me sufficient amount of rest. Son you know its bad to get two to three hours of sleep every day."
You blinked, "Two to three hours?"
Diluc clears his throat, "I understand Father. You don't have to say it."
Oh I think he does.
With a satisfied grin, Crepus took both of your hands together in his and gave you his blessings. The man once considered to be an artifact through the vast mansion was going to be part of the memories in your life. All of your expressions held as much happiness as the future can become now that he gave you the closure you both needed.

How to mix scifi and fantasy? Like moving an entire island. We know how islands form and how tectonic plates move. Magic would erase all sciency bits we get from being moved over billions of years. What do scientists detect? Also, if that was available, why and how would someone also build scifi tech that could move an entire island unless the obvious unavailble?
Constablewrites: The thing about “magic” in worldbuilding is that it doesn’t necessarily equate to “stuff that can’t be explained.” Magic can be a force that [can be studied and analyzed] with the same rigor as any other science. In a world where magic is secret or unknown, scientists might not fully understand what they’re looking at, but they will still come up with theories that fit the facts as much as possible, even if ultimately some of their models need to be changed.
As for the explaining why the tech to accomplish this wouldn’t be used elsewhere, Low Culture, High Tech isn’t the exact trope but would be a solid place to start looking for inspiration on works where the tech level has a major “one of these things is not like the other” vibe.
Tex: Say I want to lift a boulder off of the ground. In your context, I could do this approximately one of three ways:
1) Use magic
Via a levitation spell
Via carving a magical inscription on the rock that causes it to rise by itself
Via playing a magical instrument to enchant it into rising
Via a teleportation spell
2) Use non-magical, non-complex technology
Via a proportionally big lever
Via a crane with straps around the boulder
3) Use non-magical, complex technology
Via calibrating and using an acoustic levitation device
Via loading it onto a repulsor craft
Via a flying vehicle (like a helicopter), with straps around the boulder
Via teleportation devices
The boulder is still lifted off the ground, no? I would have successfully accomplished the exact same task with magic and with varying levels of technology - and to note, there are several options within each selection.
One of the main differences between magic and technology is that the “power” behind the action is introverted via talent (usually) versus extroverted via outside tools. But then, intelligence is also an introverted aspect, and someone can be talented at manipulating a piece of technology in the same way someone can be talented at magical recitation, inscription, or manipulating pieces of magical technology (i.e. an enchanted instrument).
This magical user and this technological user can both attempt to lift the boulder in their preferred ways, but if they are not skilled in their preferred methods, it’s not guaranteed that their endeavour would succeed anyway.
The difference between the boulder in my example and the island in your question is not so much a matter of size, but rather the fact that islands are indubitably, physically connected to the rest of the planet. Islands are not something that mystically float around a body of water - they’re connected to a tectonic plate, and any drifting is attributed to the mechanics of plate tectonics rather than anything unknown.
Moving an island would be the equivalent of cutting off part of someone’s bone and then grafting it to another bone on the body - you’ve got to separate it from its inherent connection, and it’s incredibly traumatic to do so. Only in this case, instead of wrecking someone’s body and causing indescribable amounts of pain, you’re causing monumental earthquakes, tsunamis, potential outbreaks of volcanoes, and acutely changing water levels that can reverberate for hundreds and thousands of kilometers from its origin point.
Regardless of how the island is moved, it’s going to have exponential, immediately visible effects - the methodology doesn’t change that.
As for the question of “why have science if we have magic” - not everyone can do magic, according to nearly every culture I’ve found. There are many classes of magic, and depending on the natural strengths of the individual, it could range anywhere from “food never spoils when I touch it” to “I can resurrect the dead”.
Moving an island would quite likely either be the work of a god-classed individual (and thus, mythological perks of immortality and ability to interact interdimensionally included), or a team effort - the latter of which would fall neatly in line with how using technology would work, as I’ve yet to see any technology even proposed that can accomplish large scale projects such as moving entire landmasses single-handedly.
If you have a society that acknowledges magic and allows it to be used openly in a way that meshes with the use and development of technology, then it would make quite a lot of sense to not only retain any records of such large-scale uses of magic, but also to call in a magical expert if scientists get stumped by something. There’s no reason why you can’t write about a society that has both and also gets along.

Using animals to show of characters
There are a ton of cool ways to do this!
Want to show a caring character? Show them loving their pet, show them helping a fallen bird.
Want to show a character being evil? Kick a puppy.
Both super obvious. Let’s check out some more.
Want to show a character as stern but caring? Have a very loyal dog or horse that show no sign of fear.
Want to show a character’s patience? Show them training an animal such as a puppy or a horse. This takes a lot of discipline and patience.
Want to show their bravery and compassion? Show them capturing and releasing a wild and dangerous animal from a location they are not safe at.
If they have pets, say for example a cat, how that cat behaves also says a lot about the owner. Are they allowed on the furniture? If they are allowed on the furniture, is it because the owner agrees with animals on furniture, or do they constantly complain about it? Telling us they aren’t good at being in charge. Does the cat always ask to be fed at the same time? That would tell us the owner is good at keeping a constant schedule.
Do they have books about animal care? Or do they instead claim to have learnt what they know from their parents?
Where did the cat come from? Adopted, bought? Was it sought out or did it just wonder in one day and stick around?
Also, all my posts are mostly directed at writing young adult fantasy, and something you often see in fantasy that doesn’t necessarily coincide with real world is that animals will behave like their owners. This is an obvious way to show a character of through an animal.
But even funner is to show an animal being nothing like their owner and forcing the owner to do things they are visibly uncomfortable with. I absolutely adore the typical serious all business character with his head on his palm while his other hand bounces some string around to help their daughter’s kitten burn of some energy.
Or a hyperactive child coming to terms with the fact their fish just isn’t going to do much. (Be careful with these kind of stuff, make sure to research. Children aren’t usually fit for taking care of animals, if you do have children in your story taking care of animals either express that they are an exemptions, who parents being involved or make sure it’s obvious this is a bad move, I’m sure everyone already knows this but I feel like I have to add it anyway).
Also, on that note, careful what animals you show as pets. I know it’s fantasy but if an animal isn’t a good pet irl you can have influence and cause trouble. An off-hand comment about, “oh, that animal usually isn’t friendly, it must be attracted to your magical power”, can communicate to a reader, hey, this is fantasy. Remember that.
Also, emotional support or service animals! Another great thing to include that can speak a lot about a person. Different people require different support and will have different support animals because of this. I have to recommend doing a lot of research into this though as I have never had a service animales and do not feel qualified to truly explain them. (Also, emotional support animal and service animals are two different things, look it up if you didn’t know, it’s quite interesting!)
Extra:
Here’s something I’ve seen a lot in media. Showing a character as being scared of say a dog as a way of showing them as being evil. Please don’t do this.
I get the theory behind it. Dogs are loyal caring animals and anybody who is scared of them clearly lacks empathy and understanding for the innocent animal that just wants to play!
Except, dogs are still animals, and although rare, they can be dangerous. A lot of people are scared of dogs. Yes, I’m scared of dogs. I love dogs, if I know them. But when I was about four years old, one Easter, sitting in London park with my new Barbie doll, this dog three times my size ran over and jumped on me, took my Barbie and broke it.
It terrified me.
The owner just laughed and called the dog off. I wasn’t hurt or anything but it’s a memory that remains close to me. And whenever I see an unfamiliar dog I may take a couple of steps to the side in an attempt to keep my distance.
I don’t feel attacked when I see fear of dogs used as a villain trope or anything. It just makes me roll my eyes at how people don’t understand the deepness of fears.
As usual,  check out my book, stories I’ve written plus other social medias: here.
Do you have a pet? What is it? What are they like?
