3. Prioritise reading and listening but don't forget to pronounce what you read/listen! Repeating helps a lot!

I’m not even gonna try listing all of the features because there’s just so many and I’ve used it for many years now and on a daily basis. Not to mention it is constantly updated. In terms of features and overall quality, MDBG is the best in my opinion.

MandarinSpot’s Annotator

Sometimes has slightly different definitions compared to MDBG, and someone it will have the definition for words that MDBG does not have entered yet. Also, it helpful for anyone who reads Chinese best horizontally as opposed to listed vertically like on MDBG.

Pleco (app)

Most similar to MDBG, but for your smart phone.

Important Note:

Please keep in mind that none of these dictionaries are perfect and language is constantly evolving, so new terms are not likely to be in any of these dictionaries. there is not many moderators for these dictionaries so sometimes definitions and words won’t be entered in for weeks or even months.

If you find yourself with some thing that is clearly a word but does not have an English definition entered into either of these dictionaries it works best to look up the definition in Chinese on Baidu Dict or Google, or even check out Wikitionary/Wikipedia.

increasingly "useless" reasons why i like learning languages

@studentbyday said i should re-define "useless" in my mind. instructions unclear. made a shitpost instead 💩

💌: inside-my-phone format is back!🍃 do you agree/disagree with my MTL rankings? what motivates you? 👀

i can be a more empathetic, understanding, and supportive person who makes sure to only cuss people out in languages they don't understand so that their feelings aren't hurt ❤️

i can talk to more people who will probably think i'm an idiot because of how badly i speak their language 👄

i can nurture my self-confidence/-esteem as long as i don't think too hard about how much i don't know 🥰

i can read more books, articles, people arguing on the internet, etc. 📚

i can travel to foreign countries more easily until someone asks me to translate something important and i mess up and land us both in prison or something ✈️

false and ren are great because ren kept on saying he made a deal with false. he did not. he saw her and was like :D i won't kill you! and she was like ❤️yay❤️ okay❤️. but false is careful of everyone so she stays ten blocks away from him (even if she lets him drag her around).

there's a lot of bribery and prize splitting going on but ren didn't need to be bribed to support false ❤️ he supported her of his own free will. she didn't offer anything. well, she tried to offer 90% of the prize when she was freaked out that the others would bribe him, but ren wasn't reading chat lmao. and then the next day, he shows up like <3 ok i'll kill anyone except false <3

ren's steadfast loyalty and commitment to her 🥺 and false has been encouraging him about his kills (because despite her anxiety, she said she had a feeling she would know if ren actually tried) 🥺 he may be an incompetent friendly reaper but he's her mostly harmless loyal friendly reaper in the way she's his chosen green guy to protect

i'm not happy unless i'm yearning for something. somehow i equate yearning with meaning. so when i enter a period that is oddly calm and satisfying, often i ask myself what am i living for? but do the trees and the little creatures that live among them wonder why they are alive? or do they let themselves simply be struck by the wonder of living?

것들을 그리움 없어면, 난 행복도 없어. 것들을 그리움 없어면, 이유도 없어. 그래서 고요한 와 만족한 시간 와 때, 자주 내 자신 물어: 왜 살아? 하지만 나무는 와 나무에서 살아한 작은 동물은 이렇께 생각해? 또는 살아면서 그냥 경이 기분해?

如果我没有希望，我不高兴。如果没有希望，也没有意思。所以如果我觉得冷静和满意，经常我有问题：为什么生活？但是树和树的小的动物也问吗？还是只是惊讶因为他们有生活？

my Chinese is very rusty overall because i haven't been practicing well, but today i learned that i can use 惊讶 to mean feelings like "wonder," not just to mean "surprise."
